Okay, so there's lots of good news. Like us having a league. And it existing. And stuff. I'm not sure I quite stressed this enough last time around. But anyway.

And there was some stability. And some shakeups. Like the Dragons flip-flopping their record from last time to let someone else win the division.

And then the Crabs swept the Panthers, who they'd gotten home field advantage over based on having won the season series. Which turned out not to matter because the scorinators aren't that advanced or anything. So my copying-and-pasting-and-rearranging-a-bunch-of-results has all been kind of meaningless. But that's not the bad news! And also the Bears beat the Tigers. So we had a Bears versus Crabs championship series again! Which is a rematch of a, like, other thing! And this is all still good news!

And it was a really awesome series! With normal and unexciting results like Crabs 4, Bears 1! And, um, it...went...the distance, which...I mean, it made the fans really happy, right, even the neutrals. And, ah, it...yes...the Crabs won again, by the way...there were really exciting games. Really, really exciting. And, no, seriously, the scorinator told me so. But you wouldn't believe me because it's baseball and all. I can't control these things. So I'll be nice and shut up about them, but just, know that it was exciting for our fans, okay? They're the ones who really matter.

The Crabs, for the record, are still still the Crabs. Not for lack of trying. See, the Mustangs kind of picked up on the Crabs' tastes by now, and decided to name their triple-A affiliate the Wolves so they'd have dibs.

The Gray Sox, understanding slightly better how the Crabs actually work, named their double-A affiliate the Wolfs so they'd have dibs on that.

Not that the Crabs couldn't have fought slightly harder on the unimportance of dibs, but they were busy winning the championship in dramatic style. So yeah.

The Islands League Baseball started with a bang in its' first season, with plenty of great baseball action - each team played their division rivals 12 times and every other team 3 times - resulting in 72 games for each team. In the end only one team won out in an exciting play-off chase - the regular season was played out over 72 games, which was perhaps the more exciting stage of the season with games being played out every night near enough for 4 months. These matches were played on Nasto, in Pontinur (an independent nation, on Nasto), and the Avon & Larne Islands. Coverage of the sport was surprisingly good, with 7 matches a week (one a day) being shown on ISN, and quite a few games being shown on MNC and even the ZpartaX channel got in on the action. The best coverage was given by radio as the games were relayed live to listeners across the country and apparently the MNC Radio Sport commentary team were brilliant and good to listen to on cross-country trips in the car, according to listeners.

We can only hope this kind of coverage continues and it brings an influx of sponsorship, foreign players and money into a sport which is fairly new to our nation - but we put in a good performance in the most recent WBC, getting to the knockout rounds after finishing 3rd in a tough group including giants of baseball Newmanistan and rising stars Churchma. Some of our best players, for example Svyatoslav Volkov and Arkady Pasternak play in our league and some great teams provide some great action. So here are the results, the top two from each Division qualify for the Play-Offs:

East Nasto Division Standings

Cizian Mariners were the best regular season team in the whole ILB, with their 43-4-25 (wins is the next tiebreaker after points) record, Marlen Kaminski - the left fielder for the national side - made some massive hits to help them on their way to the Regular Season Championship, and the inaugural East Nasto Division Championship. Dyka Metropolitan trundled along nicely to a 33-9-30 record, with help from national team pitcher Serafim Kaminski and brother of Marlen who plays for rivals Cizian (although a bigger rivalry probably exists between Dyka and Orlando), some decent hitting from Tristan Vrubel also helped them along, the national side centre fielder getting a whole lot of home runs.

Avon & Larne Division Standings

The Avon & Larne Division was a very competitive division, with it being the only division apart from the West Nasto Division to have three teams with winning seasons. Des Moines BlackCats came out on top with a 34-8-30 record, the same as Ardara Force and Cherbourg Foxes; the reason why they won the division? They hit better, no surprise really as they have two of our best players on their team, Svyatoslav Volkov and Germogen Sokolof putting in great performances for them throughout the season. Ardara Force relied on pitcher Nestor Pavlov and their biggest hitter Florian Zeigler to drag their team towards the play-offs.

Pontinur City Division Standings

Bayreuth Kings were the only team to reach the play-offs with a losing record, they finished ahead of rivals Nechin Rebels who did in fact have a winning record - but had less overall wins than the Kings. The Pontinurii outfit led by Robin Wielaar, their 2nd basemen will be seeded 4th in the play-offs even though they have a losing record - and are confusingly the Pontinur Division Champions. The Rebels will be seeded 8th and will have the 'toughest' test by having to face the regular season champions, the Cizian Mariners.

West Nasto Division Standings

The best overall division in the Islands League Baseball - the McKinley Mountaineers beat out tough competition from their division and other teams from throughout the league to become the 2nd best team in the whole league. This was thanks to some great pitching from Yevgeni Romanov and Filat Zolnerowich and some good hitting from Valery Konstantinov and Grzegorz Weimaart. Ontario Aces got to the play-offs with a 38-5-29 record - which was better than two Division Champions. They were the surprise package of the division, with no obvious stars - but decent pitcher Vitali Krupin, hitter Tomas Sebekyinov and outfielder Andrej Simarski - all three of which are basically reserves in the national side, Krupin being a set-up pitcher, Sebekyinov only used as a designated hitter and Simarski as a reserve fielder and hitter - they beat off the Parr Isotopes who have some real national team stars in their side. So congratulations are in order to the Aces.

So Ardara Force win the ILB Championship over the McKinley Mountaineers, the Avon and Larne Division runners-up have done brilliantly to go this far and they went one better and won it thanks to some top pitching from Nestor Pavlov and some brilliant hitting in the play-offs from Florian Zeigler as they got to the play-offs and then all the way to the Championship series, which they came back from 2-1 down in games to win 3-2. Congratulations to them!

Okay so. The Northeast division being won by seven games seems interesting, until you realize that's nine fewer than the Panthers needed. And that the Millers were more dominant than that. (What are the Tigers doing in last?)

We needed an asterisk after those 61s, it turned out. Head-to-head, chosen mostly because it could be determined, put the Red-Tails against Inver and left the Gray Sox to visit Nuel. (You take the ICE**. Noh Weir to Inver is, like, three transfers.)

Maybe it didn't matter, as both high seeds beat their rivals (who were, both coming second in their divisions with 55 wins the previous season, nominally equally-difficult foes). Granted, they both needed the full five games to do it. The Panthers at least pushed one of their defeats to extra innings.

But maybe it just tired them out. The Millers began and ended the series with resounding 9-1 triumphs at home. In between were closer affairs--it would help if these people knew how to put together win streaks, but I guess seeing how bizarrely the season is scheduled and the fact that we're rearranging the order of these things even for baseball, I guess it doesn't matter.

Also, note the Mustangs' crossdistrict rivals are now the Werwolfs. I don't know if us Descriptive notators would render it "werewolves" or "We're wolves." Either way, the sale has certainly shaken things up there. I guess they're too stubborn to stop using the phrasing "FTC" until the Mustangs join them. Hmm...
