Commend Flibbleites

Postby Inflatable Gandalfs » Thu Oct 01, 2009 8:01 am

A proposal written especially for those of you who are sick and tired of debating the same shit over and over again:

Whereas, proposal badness is an issue of great import among General Assembly members,

Whereas, the WA proposal queue is often clogged with misspelled, grammatically unsound, unreadable, illegal, nonsensical, or otherwise annoying WA proposals just begging for the mod-hammer,

Whereas, the Secretariat isn't always there to strike at these proposals after they've been submitted and amassed an alarming number of approvals,

Whereas, the volunteer work of delegates like the representative of Flibbleites, to identify various illegalities and other articles of silliness littering the queue is of vital importance,

Whereas, dealing with such inane and illiterate nonsense has driven lesser-worthy diplomats to the bottle, be it therefore

RESOLVED, that the Flibbleites delegate is COMMENDED for his tireless and thankless work in policing the proposal queue.

...to be followed up, of course, by a "Condemn Ardchoille" resolution, for "accidentally" deleting this proposal under the "Don't Commend Mods for Modding" rule*...which unfortunately for her leaves out condemning them for such, creating something of a loophole. Never saw that one coming, did you, Ard?

* inapplicable in this case, because Flib only mods the forums.

...although "of great import" and "of vital importance" is a bit too repetitious for my taste. Can someone think up suitable synonymous language for the latter phrase?

Whereas, proposal badness is a dilemma that has encumbered the World Assembly since its creation,

Edited in red -- to avoid the redundancy you aforementioned... maybe. Though the 'great import's seem trifling in comparison to the repetitiveness of using 'Whereas' for almost every clause. Is there some significance in the 'Whereas' that I'm unaware of? (..like just finding out a week or two ago what 'Inflatable Gandalfs' meant -- funny shit !)

I would've also added a clause saying:

"NOTING Flibbleites' dutiful celebration of Max Barry Day"

...but thats just me.

I think you're wrong. It's commending Flib for his activities policing the queue even before he was modded.

This seems oddly familiar to the Commend Sirocco proposal that had been tossed into the queue and ruled illegal...

If you overlook it, I'm sure someone will throw in a "Commend Euroslavia" just for you. :p

There is no greater way to honor someone's years of commitment as a game mod than to slip their name into a non-binding, functionally useless Security Council Resolution. It's the very least we could do...no really, it is.
It's ok! You can trust me! I've been Commended!

Luvkily, this proposal has nothing to do with Flib's duties as a mod...or did you read the OP?

I kicked it from the queue on the basis of the "Don't C&C mods for modding" rule, then re-read it and realised it referred to Flib's actions as a player over several years before he was modded, so asked for it to be re-submitted. Sirocco's was about his work on issues, and since that was work that could only be done by a mod, it was illegal.

You didn't notice the past tense there? It WAS work that could be done only by a mod. Now it is not. But for the long period when Sirocco worked on it alone, and which gave rise to the body of work for which he was being commended, it was work that could have been done only by a mod.

C'mon, SK, I served my time in the NS UN, I know from bush lawyers.

Having now switched out my WA puppet, this is up for another round of abuse at the hands of the WA delegates.

(The Commend SFK one too, but I ain't bumping two threads. Click the link to comment there.)

Notice that most WA Proposals rife with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes are often written in one swift go quickly and thoughtlessly, and are, in general, inadequate resolutions. It is best that proposals by inept diplomats be noticed, and through these foolish errors it is blatantly obvious who is writing a serious proposal and who is writing something off the top of their head.

EDIT: These proposals really just take care of themselves due to the lack of support they receive from the Delegates.
