HIV/AIDS in your nation

You know what it is. Everyone does. Whether the AIDS virus is spread through unclean acts or by simple contact on a wound, AIDS can effect anyone unlucky enough to be exposed.

There is no known cure, so governments around the world must deal with prevention and education, or at the very least, isolation.

The question is simple. How does your government deal with the HIV/AIDS virus?

All citizens tested positive for the disease are forcibly located to an island of the cost of the Federal Republic. We have every citizens blood sample taken regularly so we test for HIV/AIDs every year.

Those found positive are relocated. The Island is a medical facility that is currently researching a cure, so far it's just resulted in many premature deaths and an overworking furnace.

This Is a Growing Problem in Karmaimps,especially in some of the larger cities. The Population is educated on HIV/AIDS and other STDs medical centers offer free test and contraceptives to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. It is Illegal to knowingly and willingly pass along any illness.

There is no formal HIV/AIDS prevention in TurtleShroom. Like any modern nation, the medical community of TurtleShroom knows how AIDS is spread- contact from a victim on an open sore (that is ALWAYS the case in TurtleShroom) -and how to prevent it, but the real novelty is how AIDS victims are treated.

The HIV/AIDS virus was discovererd in TurtleShroom in 2000. Many had heard of it spread in more liberal countries since the late 1980s, but they thought it could not be received in TurtleShroom because of their criminalization of sodomy and buggery. They were dead wrong.

The first case of AIDS was in the city of Gerry, at the volatile northwestern border. It was almost immediately that laws came to pass about AIDS and what to do with it. Education of it was made compulsary at every medical school, but then came the insanity.

TurtleShroom lawmakers, realizing that the HIV/AIDS virus was spread by contact, took a page from a law book millinia old...

"Suppose someone has a skin disease that makes him 'unclean.' Then he must wear torn clothes. He must let his hair hang loose. He must cover the lower part of his face. He must cry out, 'Unclean! Unclean!'

"As long as he has the disease, he remains 'unclean.' He must live alone. He must live outside the camp. "

-and so it came to pass!

Today, HIV/AIDS victims are TurtleShroom's lepers. They are completely segregated from society and forcibly evicted from civilization as they know it, only visited by people in haz-mat suits or by trained doctors. Family, friends, and tourists alike must take cleansing showers before and after entering an "AIDS colony". Only a medical doctor can diagnose AIDS, but is is usually a preacher (in a hazmat suit) that escourts them out (and the largely Christian prays for them).

In the AIDS colony, they may dress and do as they wish. Stepping outside of these bounds, though, requires a strict code.
TurtleShroom law orders them to wear a read sash tied like a belt around their waist, and a red ribbon tied around their forehead (like a bandana). They also don a crimson shawl that goes about to the top of their chest. Taking these off is a crime (as it endangers the people).
In public, they cover the lower part of their face- usually with a (often red) surgical mask -and must shout "UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN!" (or "HIV! HIV!", their choice) to warn others to get out of the way.

Aside from that, though, the law bars any other discrimination on HIV/AIDs victims. Provided they drape themselves in crimson and shout "UNCLEAN!", they can be hired, they can buy items, and can generally associate with the rest of TurtleShroom as they wish.


Suprisingly, few TurtleShroomers ever bully or bring harm to AIDS victims, because if they all take precautions, it won't spread. Rather, AIDS victims are looked down upon and readilly assisted by the church. (Still, they do jump out of the way.)

An AIDS vaccine is a top priority in TurtleShroom. Just DON'T touch them, and it'll be all right. Right?

By our time (the 3000's) the disease has mostly been eradicated, but it still shows up on less developed planets. There have only been a few cases in Dagnia, all of them foreigners who were deported. Our government has a plan though if it ever does become a problem here involving education.

The Namabia Department of Education deals with students early on about these. Stuff such as this is implemented in the 5th Grade Health book. By the time they reach the 11th Grade the Department of Education intertwines with the Namabian Department of Health to single out kids who are having under-age sex. These students are sent to re-hab centers for their 12th grade year. After the one year in Rehabilitation Education Center the students are released but closely watched for about a year.

If they continue the Department of Health will take over and STD Test them every month. It is illegal for any government department in Namabia to deny a citizen civil and human rights. If so the department head is exiled for five years as an example of how it would feel for his rights to be stripped.

We don't. We think people who contract it and then die are stupid and weak, and their deaths serve the betterment of the gene pool, so the government regards it as somewhat of a non-issue. People worry about this sort of thing on their own time, not on tax money.

If a case did pop up on our planet, though, it would be treated just like any other viral disease: After one round of nanobot therapy against the aggressor, the patient should be cured of the once-dreaded virus and be sent home as if nothing serious happened.

Even though a cure for the virus has been found, in a nation of 14.1 billion and open borders, there are bound to be people with the virus in our country, albeit not too many - in fact many of those that immigrate do just so they can procure the vaccine.

The Tsvarchivan school system has a comprehensive sex education course, which covers viruses and sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS, and on top of that families in Tsvarchi teach their children about the dangers and consequences of unprotected sex long before they even take the course, as Tsvarchivan culture is very liberal and people here tend to start having sex young (12-13 years old).

The Tsvarchivan government estimates that 14 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the country today, and due to our aforementioned education on the subject it is widely known, so it isn't a social taboo nor are people who have it widely discriminated against, since the common fears of those with the disease are dispelled and widely known to be false.

As with any virus spread via unprotected sex, knowingly having sex with somebody who does not know their partner has it, can face criminal charges based on the 'harm to others' philosophy, in that you are deliberately causing harm to somebody else, but also it must have resulted in the person getting the virus; potential harm is not criminalized.

Being from the late 2020's has it's advantages, one of which is a cure for HIV has been found. The problem is it is expensive to produce, and as such is only given to people who's lives are threatened by it. There is also, unfortunately no know way to attain immunity to the virus. To make up for this, education on how to prevent it is a required from all learning institutions, and is a prerequisite for graduating high school. Condoms are also given out for free at gas stations, pharmacies, and hospitals; clean needles are also handed out at all safe-injection sites located within the nation.
