This line of thinking is what gives us a two party system, which sucks ass.

Thank you... almost everyone.

It's how the system works out. Even if you have a FPTP or AV, they both eventually lead to two parties dominating the sphere. Look at the diminished role the Liberal Democrats have? Or even the Liberal Party in Canada. Oh sure those two parties may change, but that's really it.

I'm not a member of a political party, no parties here in the United Kingdom are compatible enough with my views to make that much of a commitment. I tend to just vote for the least worst candidate standing in my constituency, last year that was a Liberal Democrat.

No, because I am kind of a floating voter. Leaning towards the Tories but had a break at the end of the last millennium under Blair. And that was all before Iraq and all that.

People who denounce the free market and voluntary exchange, and are for control and coercion, believe they have more intelligence and superior wisdom to the masses. What's more, they believe they've been ordained to forcibly impose that wisdom on the rest of us. Of course, they have what they consider good reasons for doing so, but every tyrant that has ever existed has had what he believed were good reasons for restricting the liberty of others.

Have considered it a few times, but ultimately haven't done so. If I had to join a party (in the UK), I'd go with either the Greens or Respect, I think.

I registered as a Democrat in the United States. That was a while ago though, so I might need to update my voter registration information.

"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Well how moderate do you want the GOP to be? Washington Republicans are about as moderate as they get.

I don't plan to join a party, because in the US, I don't like the Democrats or the Republicans. And there aren't any third parties of significance. I don't agree with any of the other parties either.

All Republicans have taken a tilt to the right but the Tea Party isn't significant in Washington state because we're a Blue state that won't be changing any time soon. State elections are close though, like for governor.

If all it takes is espousing a specific ideology, then I probably am. I'm not eager to associate or sign up with any, however, and would likely decline if approached.
