things your history textbook got wrong

Postby Shnercropolis » Mon Jun 13, 2011 6:09 pm

what is the stupidest misunderstanding you've found in your textbook?

My science textbook said that a microorganism is any organism that can't be seen with the naked eye, but there is a microorganism that can be seen with the human eye.

What is it?

Maybe I know it and don't remember.

US AFJROTC Year 1 Textbook states the testing for the B-17 bomber was a complete success when it was not. The Testing was completely good, yes, but the test plane crashed. And only under loophole did the US purchase any.
Just know when it's real and when it isn't.

My history text book referred to Russia as a Communist state... And it was not referring to the Russian SFSR, nor the Soviet Union... It was a chapter on The Russian Federation today.

Just bought this book ridiculously interesting. It's not really more about what they got wrong it's what they don't include or choose to talk too little about making our youth too naive about our past. Few Americans can think of any wars we've been in besides the following:

The American Revolution
The War of 1812
The Civil War
The Spanish American War
WWI
WWII
Korean War
Vietnam War
Persian Gulf War
The War on Terrorism

While excluding those we've been in:
The Colonial Wars
The Northwest Indian War
Quasi War
Barbary War
Tecumseh's War
The Creek War
War with Mexico (1846–48)
Indian Wars (1865–1870)
Philippine-American War (1899-1902)
Banana Wars (Yes the name is funny.)
The Russian Revolution
Small military and espionage acts in Libya, Beirut, Tehran, Grenada, and Panama.
Peacekeeping in Somalia
Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti
Nato forces in Yugoslavia.

As good as, yes. It asserted that he did absolutely nothing, and wanted government completely out of economic affairs, putting absolute trust in the free-market.
This was set straight fairly soon after when I took Economics class ;)

I love correcting people when they try to argue the Hoover dam was a new deal program.

My history book skips a page that contains the bombing of Heroshima. It says, "In August of 19-" The rest of the page is gone. Also, it says, "Here is a picture of Westminster Abbey. And here, is a picture a beautiful Irish plain." It is the same picture of Westminster Abbey.

I imagine my textbooks probably had some typos and spelling mistakes. Other than that, I have no clue.
I am from Canada | I'm some kind of Socialist | And also Batman
"Never be deceived that the rich will permit you to vote away their wealth." - Lucy Parsons
Socialism is an economic system characterised by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy. "Social ownership" may refer to cooperative enterprises, common ownership, state ownership, citizen ownership of equity, or any combination of these. There are many varieties of socialism and there is no single definition encapsulating all of them. They differ in the type of social ownership they advocate, the degree to which they rely on markets or planning, how management is to be organised within productive institutions, and the role of the state in constructing socialism.

Oi with the arguing in circles over the same tired old topic yet again, and the trolling one another on either side with 'who is a real Christian' and 'why your logic sucks'. How about we put this one to bed again. It's going nowhere. You aren't going to change anyone's minds. Stick a fork in it kids - it's done.-Dread Lady Nathanica
