Saugeais Stadia Info

Group A, Ville-DuPont
Group A's matches will be played in Ville-DuPont, a very quaint, rustic town that only started fielding a football team in 1991. Situated on the edge of the Saugeais National Forest, the Ville-DuPont economy is centered around logging, slowly becoming the national leader of lumber production and exports. The stadium they will be in is Hawkshead Point, a 34,550 all-seater venue that has seen its fair share of joy and sorrow in the past 20 years. It's club team, the Hawks, have only been in Saugeais League 1 only twice, and its stadium has been been under-used because of it. This was also led to the decline of tourism drawn to the area because of football. Hopefully with the arrival of the Cup of Harmony crowd, the amount of revenue the matches and tourism bring will upgrade the team and the stadium.

Group B, Metalton
Group B will take place in the industrial city of Metalton, where they will play at the high-tech Tapandie Stadium. It holds 35,000 and is home to the Metalton Miners of SL1. The stadium boasts that it has the cleanest pitch in all the world, as rarely has there ever been pock marks or divots, not even browned grass has shown up on the pitch. It really is the perfect playing field. The city of Metalton has become one of the fastest growing cities in the country, with its ever expanding mining industry and subsequent iron works industry. The Metalton Domestic Iron Works Foundry is the largest producer of iron in the country, making iron for all uses: from I-beams to truck chassis. A statue of a miner holding a pick-axe above his head, titled "Risen" pays tribute to the 21 miners that died in a mine collapse in 2002.

Group C, Bugny
Group C's matches will take place in another forest town: Bugny, and it's home pitch, The Old Forest Stadium. Seating 38,000 with the backdrop of the Saugeais National Forest outside of the stadium, one cannot picture how breathtaking a match at "The Forest" can be. Of course, with the help of a championship caliber football club, Bugny FC, it really isn't hard to get out for a match on a Saturday. The town of Bugny is situated with the forest to the north end and the Iban Lake and trailing Bugny River to the east, making Bugny a perfect summer getaway if Montbenoit is too steep of an option. Bugny's economy is divided between logging and fishing, the latter more well known, as aside from being one of the main tourist reasons, also holds the National Fishing Championships every August.

Group D, Longview
Group D will be in the venerable wind tunnel that is Longview. This blustery city is home to not only some of the countries strongest tornadoes, but also one of the wildest teams in SP1. The resident club team, aptly named the Tornadoes, play in Circle Stadium (cap. 37,500) named so in honor of the founder of the club, Stephen Circle, and not the shape of the stadium (it is, in fact, a very rectangular stadium). With so many wind storms and tornadoes every year, Longview is home to all of the country's wind power plants. They generate enough energy to power the entire southern half of the country every year with energy to spare. Unfortuantely that same energy can't transfer to the people, as most of the population are very apathetic to the rest of the nation, much less the rest of the world. It'll be interesting to see how they handle the influx of Cup of Harmony tourists.

The Round of 16 will take place in Ville-DuPont and Metalton, with Bugny and Longview hosting the quarter final matchups.

Saugeais regional Final, Arçon
The regional final of Saugeais will be contested in the beautiful city of Arçon. The stadium that will hold the event is Arrowpoint Place, which will hold 51,000 spectators.

Cup of Harmony Third place match, Montbenoit
The third place match of the 47th Cup of Harmony will take place in the capital of Saugeais. Montbenoit is home to the national football stadium of Saugeais, Stade de Saugeais, which can hold 68,500 fans. Placed in the entertainment district of metropolitan Montbenoit, it is not far from any nightlife venue or shopping area that can appease fans to spend their money. Tourism has long been Montbenoit's strong suit, being compared to a "London mixed with Shinjuku", having both bits of historically old and the flashy new to appeal to all walks of life.

Broadcasting from the Cup of Harmony in Saucy, Spectacular Saugeais, this is the Voice of Rumbifootball, with your hosts Markus Matson and Matt Rumbiak.

Markus: Welcome to the broadcast, Rumbipeople. With me tonight is-

Matt: I thought we decided our citizens were called Rumbipurans, Markus.

Markus: Well, that may be true, Matt, but we also decided that we wouldn’t break any laws. And football is definitely illegal in Rumbipura. So we wouldn’t want to broadcast to the Rumbipurans.

Matt: Football is illegal? Why wasn’t I told?

Markus: It was announced by the Rumbi Lama personally, Matt. Possibly during one of your naps.

Matt: That little shi…. I mean, why would His Eminent Holiness (peace be upon him) have anything to say against football?

Markus: He wasn’t happy that the Cassowaries finished last in their World Cup qualifying group.

Matt: Why should they? They’re ranked #176 in the world.

Markus: Quite so. And they still beat Civil Citizenry. Not a bad run, really.

Matt: Who has the runs?

Markus: No one has the runs. I said “not a bad run.”

Matt: But we can’t drink the water here, right?

Markus: No, the water is perfectly safe in Saugeais.

Matt: Still, we should stick with the beer to be safe, I’d say.

Markus: No, really, the water is perfectly safe. I hear they bottle it, stick a picture of mountains on the label, and sell it around the world.

Matt: Hmm. That’s as may be. I think I’d still rather have a Stout Lout Marmoset Ale.

Markus: What a shock.

Matt: Or a Stout Lout Pint o’ Mischief.

Markus: Yes, but moving on from your ale selections, the draw results are in for this Cup of Harmony, the tournament that honours, um, near-excellence in the sport of football.

Matt: You mean the losers.

Markus: No, the Cup of Harmony honours the cream of—

Matt: Yer right. A Stout Lout Cream Ale it is.

Markus: … the cream of the non-qualifiers. It’s an honour for a team ranked below 150 to even be invited to the Cup of Harmony, really.

Matt: I heard it was called the Frosty Invitational.

Markus: No, the Cup of Harmony. It’s been called that for over half a century.

Matt: Well, I may have a frosty mug of beer in any case. Anyways, I remember now. But wasn’t it changed to the Supercup?

Markus: IT IS CALLED THE CUP OF HARMONY.

Matt: Well, who’s Harmony? Some chick that scored eleventy-one goals for a bunch of teenage girls and won seven World Cups?

Markus: No, it’s an expression of friendship between sporting nations, Matt.

Matt: And a chance for a massive pissup, right?

Markus: I couldn’t possibly say. It’s just conceivable that some of the fans will have a pint or two.

Matt: Or eighteen. I hear we’re in the same group as the Landau Institute!

Markus: Yes, they are expected to win Group D. The Landau Institute is ranked #41 in the world. This is a team of fine footballing skills, though some sort of economic trouble at home seems to have forced them to be sponsored by the liquor industry.

Matt: Like us, you mean.

Markus: No, sponsored. Stout Lout actually bought the Rumbipura Football Association, so they own the Cassowaries outright.

Matt: We still get to play the Landau drinking game, though, right?

Markus: That’s for the players, Matt. But yes, I am told by the manager of the Cassowaries that they will be taking part under Landau rules in the third match of Group D, likely to be the final match for Rumbipura.

Matt: They play like a bunch of drunks anyway.

Markus: That’s simply inexperience.

Matt: Nah, it was a compliment. A bunch of drunk, flightless birds with an inner ear problem, now that would have been an insult.

Markus: Indeed. Group D also features Milchama, a team that has already won the Cup of Harmony twice.

Matt: And they only drink milk? Get me my gun.

Markus: No, Milchama, not Milkchama. I know these foreign names can be tough.

Matt: Yer not kidding. I can barely pronounce Rumblepoura.

Markus: Rumbipura.

Matt: Yeah. Rumplestiltskin. That’s what I said. So we’re ranked higher than Milkama, right?

Markus: No. Didn’t I mention they’re a former champion? Milchama is ranked #64 in the world.

Matt: Ooh! That’s eight times eight! An auspicious number!

Markus: er, OK. Finally, there’s Cabric. This is a country very concerned that we all spell their name right. So let’s give it a shot, shall we Matt?

Matt: Sure thing. Call me a cab, Rick, I’ve had too many too drive home. I can remember that. We’re ranked higher than them, right?

Markus: Cabric is ranked #80 in the world.

Matt: Is that less than 176?

Markus: Indeed it is. Quote a lot less.

Matt: We’re forked then, aren’t we? Hardly seems sporting to put us up against teams with rankings in the double-digits.

Markus: I’m sure the Cassowaries will rise to the challenge and deliver us some fine football.

Matt: Drunk, flightless birds with an inner ear problem and one leg amputated at the knee. Yeah.

Markus: The Cassowaries will open against Cabric. Reportedly, this will be the all-human side.

Matt: All humans? That doesn’t seem sporting. Can’t they field a team of vegetables who explode on impact, or ten bags of marmite shaped into human form by elven magicks, or something?

Markus: No, the fashion in world football is mostly for humans these days.

Matt: And giant evil spiders, right?

Markus: As far as I know, Dorcas Bibere-Tarantula is the only giant evil spider playing, and she plays for Rumbipura.

Matt: Well, that’s a kick in the unmentionables.

Markus: You mention your unmentionables all the time, Matt.

Matt: Well, only when I spills beer on the boys, Markus. You know how it is.

Markus: Tragically, I do. Cabric is known to have fielded a team of Baeans, but they don’t appear to be playing in this Cup of Harmony.

Matt: A team of whosits?

Markus: Baeans. Some sort of sentient battery life form, apparently.

Matt: You mean they give off electricity? Now that’s more like it!

Markus: No, the science is --- oh, why bother. Have another pint?

Matt: Cheers. Don’t mind if I do.

"Look at these teams Richueles!"

"What about them then?"

"It seems as if ASMV are in our group."

"Well what about them?"

"They seem like a formidable opponenet."

"Because they are a strong team that has won this competition before?"

"No. Their karaoke is disturbing and could threaten out teams sanity."

"Okay then. What about the other teams?"

"Well there is the Kangeroo Republic."

"How are they?"

"I am yet to determine quite whether they are real Kangeroos or humans who have an obsession with them. Maybe a quick websearch will determine the truth for us."

"Okay, they are. Can't roos kick you to death?"

"Yes, and the western ones are very tall."

"Yes and their tallest is 7 feet tall. Kazzoria's tallest is about 6' 1."

"It isn't all about height. It's about skill."

"Maybe they should keep the ball on the ground then."

"That is probably the best plan. Where is our group going to be hosted?"

"Nicksia."

"Nicksia! The culture capital of Sarzonia? What's Sarzonia wine like?"

"No idea. Howevver most wine from Atlantian Ocean is an atrocity. Have you ever tried Indiargan stuff?"

"No. The reviews put me off."

"We will need some Teroian wine to take with us then. How about the beer?"

"Hmm... I don't know. I will have to give it a try."

"There music and movie industry is there right?"

"Yes, pretty much."

"We should meet up with celebs while were there then."

"Yes! Lets do that!"

With that two very posh Kazzorians packed their bags and left for Nicksia.

Sea Dragons Surrounded By "K"s

The Sea Dragons struggled early in qualification for World Cup 55 and failed to run down Al Mumtaz for the coveted second spot in the group. That means hat ASMV will compete once more for a championship in the Cup of Harmony. Disappointing for a side ranked number 17 in the world.

Any time such underperformances occur, even the greatest of players and coaches find themselves just one or two bad results from the unemployment line. That is the uncomfortable position that Ibrihim Kali’Kalii now finds himself in. Forget that he is perhaps the best coach in ASMV history. Forget that he is the only manager to take the Sea Dragons into the knockout rounds of the World Cup Proper. Even forget that he is the only manager to guide the Sea Dragons to a CoH Championship. What matters now are positive results. Kali’Kalii must now prove that he is worthy of keeping his job.

So where does that proof begin?

Kazzoria 4th place Group 4 MD1
The Kazzorians ran across some terrible luck in the qualifiers and missed out on yet another WC Proper. They will be the toughest challenge in the group and we will have to be very careful not to lose all three points.

The Kangaroo Peoples 7th place Group 13 MD2
These strange newcomers to the WC scene showed two things during the qualifiers. 1. They can be very tough competition and 2. They are still newcomers. But they do show promise and should provide some stiff competition.

The Kaiser Colonies 7th place Group 11 MD3
The Kaiser Colonies were a victim of the draw as Group 11 was most definitely the pre-qualification Group of Death. In another group they possibly could have finished 4th or 5th. Let us hope it does not come down to a must win against these guys as they will be more than happy to send us home.

Prediction: ASMV and Kazzoria go through. The other two are probably one more cup from being actual contenders in the CoH.

Thy match draw in and thy clouds roll over. Yea King picks thine team for thy invasion of the distant lands. He takes twenty-three men of high calibre and send them to Sarzonian territories. These men have thine god given ability to conquer the world of association football. Thy men be courageous and they shalt win thy matches for thy team. Those who shant they shall be replaced by thy back-up players.

Thy men are led by thy King to thy distant lands. There escort inspires courage in thinen hearts and leave them ready to start thy campaign against thy world. Thy team marches to the port through rain and sun. Thy team find themselves going and in thy night they did not halt. They get on thy ship with thy king and they pack thy bags and kits. They get on thy ship and set sail for the beaches of the Sarzonian coast. They hit thy waves that buffer and beat but they didn’t not haste.

The players land on thy beaches in the ships of thy king. They trudge through thy brine up beach and northward. They head forwards and towards thy cup. Thy march takes player.

They head through lands with a yellowish hue.
Hoping thy hotel is something new.

The Kiaser Colonies

Another tough group for the Kiaser's as they are drawn against heavy hitters such as Kazzoria and Andossa Se Mirtin Vega. Not forgetting that the Kangaroo Republic are the current Baptism of Fire champions. This group may yet be more challenging then the subtitled ''Group of Death'' from the World Cup. The news was unveiled yesterday at the Headquaters of the T.K.C.F.A and there was no denying that all were dissappointed to have such a tough group. Chairman Tim Kennedy remarked: ''Not much profit will come from making comerative jerseys with anything above group stagers on it.''
Manager Mark Cahill later said: ''Why us? BoF winners? Big Soccer nations? sure it was the same in the world cup but god we did poorly in the second round. im going to be sacked for sure.''
Luckily the team weren't so down and repeated confident messages about qualifying but it will be a long shot for them to qualify. So we offer this tribute:

Postby Cabric » Fri May 27, 2011 8:52 pm

Cabric was drawn into Group D at the Cup of Harmony with Landau Institute, either a university dedicated to the movies of Martin Landau or an insane asylum; Milchama, 2 time CoH champions and Rumbipura, whose reporters are a drunk and a tool and appearently they aren't even supposed to be playing football according to their leader Rumbi Lama, an apparent holy roller type.

Rumbipura is up first, and it's a match-up of nations with national leaders under the age of 20. Next after Rumbipura is Landau Insitiute, then Milchama. Rank-wise, Cabric is the 3rd seed in the group, but if they can manage to overperform once again, then they could get 2 wins in the group. Our prediction though, the Caribou will beat Rumbipura, and lose to Milchama and Landau Insitiute.

AMEGIA, CABRIC:

James and Steele knocked on the door of Kamman's closest neighbor, as the trail of the missing device had gone cold.

"Open up in the name of the Emperor!" James said, as she pounded on the door.

"I didn't do anything!" a voice came from the other side.

"Just want to ask you a few questions." James replied. "You got 5 seconds before we come in." The door opened, as a middle-aged woman opened the door.

"Ms. Tsung? We're here to ask you about the death of Professor Mark Kamman. You were one of the last people to see him alive." Agent Steele said, taking a seat on the sofa, while James stood by.

"Who?" Renatta Tsung replied.

"Professor Mark Kamman, lived in the house across the street from you. At 3:00 pm, after a visit by the Emperor and Lady Emily, you were the last person seen going into his house. There is also somethings mising, and if you have any idea where it is, just tell us now and we'll only charge you with obstruction of justice, instead of accessory to murder and theft of criminal evidence." James replied.

"I have no idea of what you are talking about. Professor Kamman invited me over to talk about a new invention of his, but when I went over there, I found him dead and called the cops. I had nothing to do with it! i ran out of there and back here to call the police. I didn't touch anything but the front door! I swear it!"

After a few more questions, James and Steele left Ms. Tsung's house, no closer to an answer.

"That was a waste of time. " Agent Steele said, as they headed back to the Guards HQ.

"Yeah. I still want to know how Emily Cabric found out about the meeting between the Emperor and Kamman." James said.

"Well, you know the rivalry the two have. Emily taps the Emperor's phones. Nothing illegal about it of course. Appeartly she wanted to know what Professor Kamman wanted to talk about. So I took her over there, about 2 pm and after 5 minutes, we left." Steele replied.

"So you and Emily Cabric were there about 45-50 minutes before he died. Why didn't you say this before?" James said.

"I didn't think it was important until I heard Kamman was dead. I got called in to join you on the investigation before I could file a report." Steele replied.

"So other than Ms. Tsung, you and Emily Cabric were the last two to see Kamman alive. I have to file a report about this, and you'll have to recuse yourself from the case. Just procedure, you know, I'm...." James started to say, before Steele hit her over the head.

'Sorry... but you're recused from the case.' Steele thought to himself, as he headed to his HQ.

((OOC: I had planned to do the whole Mojica choosing to retire but, I kinda overshot it! Also, this IC'ly takes place before the last MD of the WC but since i never got it in by cutoff I decided to save it for the CoH because I'm a greedy bastard like that ^.^))

Inacayal found himself tending a goal. The stadium around him was erupting with cheers and applause. At the penalty mark was (name of shooter from v.league final). The situation was something he had already experienced but, it was strangely new to him.

Suddenly, the roar of a jet engine began to fill the stadium and in a matter of seconds Inacayal snapped back to reality. Oh good, was just a dream, he thought to himself as he awoke from his nightmare and a rather strange one at that. For most, dreaming that they were playing in the biggest football match in the entire country was a good one but, in Inacayal's case it's not. Football was the thing he was trying his hardest to escape. However, it was far from easy for him. Like he had predicted, his days had become empty, the only thing distracting him was his relocation out of Virabia. After that, there would be a period of adjustment to life in the refugee camps but, he had no clue what he'd do after that. Hopefully, something would land on his lap. He was not the kind of person to actively go out and seek something. It was a quality that he was not fond of but, he's lived with it. Plus, a lot of the good things in his life did land on his lap. So perhaps things wouldn't be as bad as he thought.

__

(5 hours later)

At last, the plane pulled up to the gate in Soluca, the capital city of Sargossa. Looking out the window he could see rows of planes from a wide assortment of Virabi airlines docked at the terminal. All of them were there for a common purpose, to ferry refugees destined for either Sargossa or Sørøhet out of the country and to a central processing centre that had been established in an unused concourse of Soluca's airport. There, Inacayal assumed that someone would tell him if he was going to be headed either to Sargossa or the Islandstates and as such he wondered where he would be assigned. More so, he wondered what life would be like in those locations. From what he had heard, if he ended up in Sargossa, the setting would be that of a traditional refugee camp. Inacayal had no idea what this meant but, he assumed it would be rows of tents or cabins stretching out in perfect rows. The thought of having to live like this was not pleasing to Inacayal but, neither was the thought of having to live in the tundra. While he was used to the harsh winters of Ita, he figured they'd look pretty mild compared to what would await him in the Islandstates. Then again, he was not one to pass judgement. He did not know for sure what either of the two places would have in store and perhaps they would provide the kind of change that he needed in his life.

His thoughts were interrupted by the plane's PA system, "At last we have touched down at the gate in Soluca. At this time you can begin to exit the aircraft and proceed to the central processing area. It is asked that you have your passport and any other useful information at the ready for when you deplane and enter the processing zone. Thank you and we here at Pan Rushmori wish you one happy day"

As if by clockwork everyone sprang up and began collecting their luggage before waddling out of the plane at a blistering slow rate. This never ceased to annoy him. Each time he thought it would be different but it never changed. Eventually he made it out to the main terminal where he saw a mass of people. Damn, he thought to himself, that's a lot of people.

Wondering where he was to go, he looked around for a sign. Eventually he found one with an arrow pointing. Figuring that he was to go there he did and began waiting in the line.

_

(3 Hours Later)

After three grueling hours of tedious waiting, Inacayal finally made it to a station where a Virabi State Department official would look over his information and presumably tell him where he was headed.

"Hi, Anglese or Esperanto?", asked the official who was trying to find out whether or not the conversation would have to be conducted in Anglese or Esperanto.

"Doesn't matter." answered Inacayal, "Anglese is fine"

"Ok" said the official, "Your passport please?"

Inacayal handed over a small red booklet. On the cover in gold lettering was the words "The Uber Democratic Republic of Virabia" above it was a maple leaf and above that was "Sport Passport".

The customs officer took one look at the passport and recognised Mojica right away.

"Wait, are you really?" asked the customs officer. He was a fan of Portsham City and one of the many disappointed by the "sudden" retirement of the teams beloved starting keeper who was now right across from him.

"Why'd you retire?" asked the customs officer.

"Fell out of love with the sport" said Mojica.

"Understandable", said the officer, "Not good to stay in something when you don't love it. Always good to follow your heart."

"Yea", Inacayal nodded in agreement with the officer, “Anyways, where will I have to go to?”

“That's your choice.”, said the officer.

“Why so?”, replied Inacayal.

“It's because of the unique challenges that will face those who choose to go to Sørøya. To make people have to go through that would be unfair.”

“What are those challenges?”, asked Inacayal.

“First, the island is known to be home to harsh conditions. It's well above the Arctic Circle. The winters are harsh and dark. The landscape jagged. This is the easy part, however.”

Inacayal began thinking about what the customs officer had said. He imagined fog filled towns tucked away in a cove. To each side would be a jagged coastline going off in the distance. The way the officer described it, Sørøya would look just like much of Virabia's northern coast which, was where he spent many of his formative years. Still, he was curious as to what the “hard part” of living in Sørøya was to be so he asked.

“To put it bluntly, nothing is there.”, said the customs officer.

“What do you mean by that?” asked Inacayal.

“Exactly what I said. Nothing is there aside from a small refugee camp. The rest of the island is uninhabited”, said the customs officer, “The other thing about the island is that because nothing is there, those who opt to resettle in Sørøya will be put in charge of developing the island.”

“Why have no preparations been made by the government to at least get some things ready?”, asked Inacayal who was curious as to why those who opted to go to Sørøya were going to be handed a blank slate. Nonetheless, the idea intrigued him. It was, after all, the pursuit of a drastic change in his life that led him to quit the sport of football and ll of a sudden an opportunity landed in his lap.

“I'll go there!”, a small smile spread across his face as he continued to imagine what life would be like as one of the first settlers in a completely uninhabited world.

“You sure? Only ten people have chosen the same choice. Plus, it's cold up there. Really fucking cold. I'm talking jesus cold. The kind of cold that makes your...”, the customs officer went into a long tangent about the cold temperature was in Sørøya. Inacayal was clearly not amused at this.

“I...I get it”, said Inacayal with a blank look on his face, “It's cold there. You need not tell me more.”

“Good, was just making sure that you were properly warned, thats all” the customs officer then switched gears, “Anyway, let me just get a Refugee Identification page into your passport.”

The officer began typing away at a keyboard with a good amount of fury. He was rushing to make up the time that he'd lost when he was making small talk. He finished his long round of key strokes with a tap on the enter key. A small printer which was half a metre away from his computer started to make noises and with in seconds a freshly made and rather official looking slip of paper. The officer then took the paper and stuck it into a blank page in Inacayal's passport. Wondering what it's significance was, Inacayal did not hesitate to ask what the purpose of that slip of paper was.

“Oh, it's little more than a modification to your original passport that updates the original information. It also serves as a residence visa to the Polar Islandstates”, the officer explained the importance of the slip of paper, “Also, since some countries have offered citizenship to our refugees, this will serve as proof of Virabi citizenship long after their Virabi passport expires”

Inacayal replied with little more than “aah” and a nod of acknoledgement. “So, what do I do now?” he asked.

“Well, next for you will be to report to Door A8. There you will board a flight to Franz Josef City. From there you will take a flight to (North Island) and from there a third flight to Sørøya.” explained the customs officer, “And from there, I don't know what”

“Thanks”, said Inacayal as he gathered the belongings that he had with them, “What of the luggage I checked back in Vonghurst?”

The customs officer replied, “Those will get to Sørøya as fast as possible but, do note that may take a while to the isolation of the island as well as the amount of luggage being brought with refugees”.

__

(Seventeen Hours Later)

The flights to Franz Josef City and Kholmsk had been rather uneventful. For much of the time, Inacayal slept and read and on the ascents and descents he'd crook his head towards the window to look outside. What he thought was the dramatic change in scenery that he had experienced during the past couple of days. It was funny to think that only ten days ago he was jetting to every corner of the world with the Nats' and that now he was headed to a deserted island with only a what he was told would be only a few other people. He imagined the people that would volunteer to go to such a place would be the rugged outdoorsy type. He imagined that they would be men with thick white beards that would protect their faces. He imagined that they would be the kind of person who have vests and shorts lined with pockets each with it's own story to tell.

Looking around him, this prediction was mostly correct. Of the fifteen people who sat in the waiting area about five fit that description to a 'T'. The others were a mix of different personas. Across from him were a young Esperanto couple who were lost in eachother. A couple of rows away was a group of four negroes. Two of them were males and the other two were females. They all looked like they had extensive experience living dealing with harsh conditions but, they lacked the beards which made it obvious. Also among those headed to Sørøya was a family which had one older child of around ten. Finally there was a guy with long hair sitting next to Inacayal, he had long hair and a somewhat familiar face but, Inacayal was having trouble putting a name to that face so instead of bothering him, Inacayal opted to read his book in silence.

After a lengthy period of waiting, those seated were called to board a shuttle which took them to a small float plane which was painted in a dark blue. It was figured that this plane would be the one to make the final leg of the journey to Sørøya and that guess was correct. After ducking to get into the small plane Inacayal walked to the back and took a seat by a window. He had hoped that no one would take the seat next to him but, one of the "outdoorsy" older men took a seat next to Inacayal, who figured it could have been worse.

Throughout the short forty five minute hop between the islands, Inacayal had his eyes glued to the window. The plane flew quite low and the views were scenic. One was able to get a great look at the hilly topography of the islands as well as their famous cliffs which the waves crashed upon. All the while, he listened to the adventures of the man which took the seat next to him. Unlike the normal bullshit that those types normally spout, this one came off as sincere and for that all the more captivating. He told tales of his many ascents up great peaks and how he backpacked through Calania and other foreign territories. While he only got through three stories they were all worth the listen made the flight go by much faster.

After the forty five minute flight, the plane finally touched down in the waters off the coast of Sørøya. While the time was 0500 it was as bright as day out and, the refugee camp which had been established in the cove was clearly visible. It wasn't much. There was about fifty tents and a small dock. Aside from that, the rest of the island looked to be wholly uninhabited. The towering cliffs which Inacayal saw on his flight looked all the more impressive as they stood tall over the calm seas. Inacayal could also see a boat outside of the window making it's way to the plane. Off the back it flew the flags of Virabia, the Islandstates as well as some sort of new flag which Inacayal had not seen before. In the cannon of the flag was the "four triangles" of the Islandstates' flag and in the centre was a small maple leaf. He figured that at some point during his residence on the island he would find out the significance of the third flag but, before he could do much thinking on it his thoughts were interrupted by someone who had entered the plane from the boat. The person looked like a native of the Polar Islandstates. His skin was light and his hair blonde.

"Let me be the first to welcome you to Sakhalin and more specifically Sørøya. As you have heard this island is not developed aside from the refugee camp that you see in the distance." the man spoke Anglese with a heavy accent of someone from the Islandstates, "In days and months, what you all will be doing is developing this island from the ground up. Now don't fret, there will be more than fifteen of you. A good many still have to make the flight here but, you are the first fifteen. Anyways, from here you will take your belongings and board the boat which is docked outside the plane. It will ferry you to the island where you will be assigned tents. Today is a rest day but, tomorrow planning and construction begin."

The way the man spoke made the task seem daunting, especially for Virabis who are used to a lack of structure and people controlling them. He figured that it was more likely his imagination and once more Virabis arrive at the island things will become more familiar. This alone gave him hope but, what made him even more hopeful for the future was that this was the opportunity that he wished would befall him. He was in a completely new place. Here he would have a chance to reinvent himself to be whoever he wanted to be. Inacayal liked that possibility.

As he exited the aircraft, he was met with a gust of cold air. It was uncomfortable but, he paused to look in the direction of the island. At that moment, he smiled. Today was going to be the first day of the rest of his life.

Presently, the year is 2103 in Newmanistan, which will make it the same year in which qualifying was.

Computer generated images are fine. In fact, I like computer generated images.

Base Formation: 4-3-3

Now, let’s get to that roster.

**** COACHING STAFF ****

Head Coach: Steve Tremblay
Age: 48
Club Team: Loudon Leopards
Bio: Steve was given this role for the Comeback team in WC54 and with him leading the way, the Rockets advanced all the way to the World Cup. It re-energized the fan-base, and put football back on the map, so to speak. Naturally, this means expectations will be raised, but Steve can handle it. He prefers a cautiously offensive style, and is a “players coach” in the locker room.

Assistant Coach: Tony Allen
Age: 41
Club Team: Hampton Bulldogs
Bio: Preaches a defensive style at home, and does a great job getting the most out of the players he puts on the pitch.

Assistant Coach: Nathan Emerson
Age: 43
Club Team: Springfield Thoroughbreds
Bio: An offensive minded coach getting his first chance at an international assignment.

**** STARTING LINEUP ****

Name: Danny Marshall
Position: GK
Age: 22
Jersey #: 21
Club Team: South Charlotte Condors
Bio: Danny started for the Rockets in Di Bradini 16 and as the team did not score much in the tournament, he was the main reason the team was able to make it to the quarterfinals. Might not be our starting keeper of the present, but he is considered a hot prospect for the future. His best attributes are his reflexes, and ability to out-think shooters. He began qualifying as the substitute keeper, but late in the game when Kyle Perry committed suicide, he was thrust into the starting role.

Name: Chris Dayten
Position: LB
Age: 20
Jersey #: 3
Club Team: Pocono City Capitals
Bio: You don’t get signed by the Capitals as a 14-year old unless you are something special, and Chris has shown to be just that. After two seasons of playing for their “B”-League affiliate, Dayten got full-time duty in the NPL and impressed, winning the Rookie Defender of the Year award. He starts for the second Cup.

Name: Myron Jackson (***ALTERNATE CAPTAIN ***)
Position: LCB
Age: 25
Jersey #: 2
Club Team: Pocono City Capitals
Bio: Myron is addicted to working out. He is the first to enter the gym, the last to leave, and sometimes has to be begged to actually, leave (in fact when he was 16, his then girlfriend dumped him because the only thing he was in love with, was the workout room, in her opinion). This has paid off though as he is a man of incredible physique. He uses it to his benefit on the field, and will treat your player roughly, but at the same time, do it very cleanly and within the rules. Very, very rarely is booked. He’s one of those players you’re forward will hate during the game, but at the end of it, respect him a lot. Many feel his incredible work ethic has had a lot to do with the quick rise of Chris Dayten in Pocono City, and they are probably right. Yes, he still datin’ Dayten’s sister.

Name: Robert Cosgrove
Position: RCB
Age: 26
Jersey #: 4
Club Team: Centralia Cougars
Bio: The kind of defender that likes to take chances, both in challenging a shooter, and then offensive chances of his own. Those risks are justified due to the power of his shot, and he must be accounted for by the opposition on set pieces, especially. Since Centralia employs such a defensive system, when those risks backfire, teammates usually back him up. Is the brother of World Baseball Classic player Rachel Cosgrove (conveniently made up now on the spot since I realize I have used this last name twice! :) )

Name: Steven Bryant
Position: RB
Age: 28
Jersey #: 7
Club Team: Brighton Bulls
Bio: Steven is a rock. He isn’t quite as ripped as Jackson is, but he will be physical as well. Another difference is though while Jackson is rough, but clean; Bryant will be rough and dirty. Though the Prescotts are gone from our rosters now, he grew up watching them, and loves the way they played. He has this thing about being especially rough on people from democratic countries.

Name: Vinnie Prawn
Position: LM
Age: 22
Jersey #: 24
Club Team: Athletic Khaldoon (Queer Poco el Mono Ara)
Bio: A real pain in the you know what to play against. He will try to get under the skin of your best forward, but has the skills to back up his talk. Started in Di Bradini 16, but was a substitute in qualifying. He takes the role held by David Colman, who has some issues at home keeping him distracted and therefore, out of the starting lineup.

Name: Kenneth Snider
Position: CM
Age: 27
Jersey #: 12
Club Team: Putnam Lake Eagles
Bio: Depending on the game situation, he may also be used as a third striker. He has good speed and is great at setting up his teammates. Watch for him to click well with the forwards here. His achilles heel is his size (or lack thereof), but he overcomes that to the best of his ability by watching how the elves of nations like Valanora and Dorian and Sonya are able to do their thing. Snider’s studious nature has helped him become a complete player, and get him this spot.

Name: Aaron Huckabee
Position: RM
Age: 21
Jersey #: 10
Club Team: Tundra Falls Mariners
Bio: Possesses everything you could want in a player. Deadly shot, has speed, and is very smart. He’d play up front, but he is best as a winger and used here. Look for him also to be the delivery man on set-pieces. “Huck” was considered the team-MVP for the entire World Cup 54 effort.

Name: Michael Couture (***TEAM CAPTAIN ***)
Position: LS
Age: 28
Jersey #: 11
Club Team: Springfield Thoroughbreds
Bio: Old-timers familiar with Rockets teams of the past can associate Springfield with offense, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Thoroughbreds are continuing to live up to their reputation. Couture broke out about five years ago, scoring 42 goals in a 46 game season, and since then has scored no fewer then 39.

Name: Edward Robertson
Position: ST
Age: 20
Jersey #: 13
Club Team: Southport Tigers
Bio: Speedy and agile, Robertson has been promoted from sub to starter this Cup. How? By Tremblay switching from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3. That should tell you all you need to know about how highly we think of him. Plus, he’s a model citizen. After scoring a goal, instead of celebrating, he will drop to one knee and say a prayer. He dedicates all of his goals to his brother, who is autistic, and donates 10,000 gold coins for every goal he scores to charities for autism.

Name: Shane Bartley
Position: RS
Age: 26
Jersey #: 9
Club Team: Tundra Falls Mariners
Bio: When Shane was 6 years of age, he attended the Jeremy McAllister, Jr football camp and told little J-Mac that one day he would play for the national team. Well, his plans were side-tracked by the Empire’s failure to participate in two, but now the prolific scorer has done so. Be aware that Aaron Huckabee is his teammate with the Mariners. Be afraid of the potential of this combination due to that familiarity.

**** SUBS ****

Name: Steve Greene
Position: GK
Age: 29
Jersey #: 1
Club Team: Hampton Bulldogs
Bio: Steve makes his international debut here in the Cup of Harmony, though he would have been the third keeper if Tremblay had gone with the “third best” keeper for that position instead of someone who would just be content getting action in training. Greene will be hoping to get some playing time, but knows it is unlikely. He just wants to get out of Hampton, badly, and knows playing at this level can help his cause.

Name: Brett Richmond
Position: CB
Age: 21
Jersey #: 8
Club Team: Loudon Leopards
Bio: Defensive defender who will rarely have his name in the paper, but does everything you would want from someone in the back. Seen as a future starter; he started in DBC 16.

Name: Alexander Gilles
Position: CB
Age: 23
Jersey #: 5
Club Team: North Charlotte Wildcats
Bio: A gritty and physical defender, who will make things very difficult on your forwards if they think they can just dribble on by him. He’s also known to take an occasional run on offense if an opportunity presents itself. Also started in Di Bradini 16.

Name: David Colman
Position: MID
Age: 29
Jersey #: 6
Club Team: Southport Tigers
Bio: Colman has deceptively good speed on the wing that you must respect, and he is also very good in delivering a cross. He’s not the kind of guy you are going to find on the scoresheet much, or get booked, but he always seems to find a way to get the job done. He is known for his consistency with the Tigers. Due to some issues during qualifying, personal conflicts have arose and he has struggled in the last couple weeks. Therefore he has lost his starting spot.

Name: Jason Wilcox
Position: MID
Age: 21
Jersey #: 28
Club Team: Jessicaville Tycoons
Bio: Jason is an interesting story, because he is from Amherst, Secristan originally. By now you have heard that Newmanistan has annexed Secristan after that nation went CTE. The Emperor thought it was important to get one player, who’d still be eligible as an uncapped player, to represent the Rockets that was from there in hopes of continuing to make the transition of becoming Newmanistanians easier for those people. Now having said all that, don’t think he’s only here because of that. He’s got a damn good and accurate shot, too.

Name: Kevin Boyle
Position: ST
Age: 20
Jersey #: 15
Club Team: South Tier Seagulls
Bio: Boyle is a great friend of Robertson’s off the pitch and often joins in with his charitable functions since they play for geographically close club teams, and matched Robertson’s donation at the end of the season. Kevin is also speedy and agile, and just as dangerous. He just won’t pray as much. Started in Di Bradini 16.

Name: Shawn Franklin
Position: ST
Age: 17
Jersey #: 25
Club Team: Eastport - “B” League (on loan from Southport Tigers)
Bio: Possesses all the talent you want. He’s just young. You’ll see more of him in the future. Very motivated now to become more then “that guy who dumped Courtney Keisler”.

**** RESERVES ****

Name: Clinton Vassar
Position: GK
Age: 34
Jersey #: 22
Club Team: Hampton Bulldogs
Bio: He’s not the third best keeper in the country, but he was considered the best keeper out of those that coach Tremblay could count on taking this role while not getting a big head and thinking they should be the starter. (Or perhaps, play). His experience will make valuable where we will be used: in practice.

Name: Lenny King
Position: CB
Age: 23
Jersey #: 23
Club Team: Dover City Mountaineers
Bio: Started in Di Bradini 16. He’s a gritty, physical defender; but also smart. Honestly, he’s just caught in a numbers game right now and would be capable of more playing time.

Name: Todd Smith
Position: CB
Age: 20
Jersey #: 27
Club Team: Centralia Cougars
Bio: They are still playing great defense out there in Centralia, and Smith is next in line to be one of their superstar defenders. He does everything well, but some say he can be outmuscled. Maybe he can, but he’s young. Started in DBC 17, and a rookie to the senior team.

Name: Stanley Leffler
Position: MID
Age: 22
Jersey #: 29
Club Team: Olympia Gladiators
Bio: Gritty presence on the wing, and is usually “defense-first” in his mindset. Good with longballs, though. His brother Wayne is a former World Cup player.

Name: Justin Cooney
Position: ST
Age: 18
Jersey #: 32
Club Team: Thumbria Bay Sharks
Bio:Not quite as speedy as the starting forwards, which is what keeps him from being higher on the depth chart, but his shot is just as dangerous.

ROCK-ETS LOOK TO BE ROLLIN’ IN WOODSTOCK

Woodstock, Sarzonia- Welcome to Woodstock, man. It is the captial of Sarzonia, and it is where the Rockets will be doing their smokin’ for Cup of Harmony 47. For Newmanistan, the Cup of Harmony is something we have a lot of experience in, and proudly (yes, proudly) hold the distinction of winning this three times in four tries, and the Empire has hosted the event on three occasions. A lot of that isn’t terribly current though, partly because the Empire started qualifying for the World Cup a few times, plus we had the hiatus. Bear in mind too, that Emperor Michael IV refused to have Newmanistan participate in the Cup of Harmony the came after the failed qualifying attempt of World Cup 51.

Though we are very experienced with this tournament, there are other nations who are not, and you will here references to this being a “Loser’s Cup”. Of all the great sporting competitions that go in the World, there is not a single more derogatory term for any of them then this one. Or you will get some wiseasses referring to it as the “fight to finish 33rd”. That is really a bunch of bullshit, and if you don’t agree, just look at this field. In addition to the Rockets, we have proven powerhouses which even include the Stars of Sarzonia themselves. Also you’ll see Milchama, Rejistania, Pasarga, Landau Institute, and Andossa se Mitrin Vega; all nations that have made multiple World Cups in their past. And this is story is just getting done, because if you look down maybe one notch from them, you have Cotdelapoms, Virabia, Kazzoria, Pretty Awesome Persons, and Osarius: nations that are improving as the years go by and may only be a cycle or two away from significant glory. How about up-and comers Civil Citizenry? Novikov? Mangolana or Erathore? They are just as capable of winning this. Now, let’s throw in some powerful nations coming in on their Baptism of Fire year: Polar Islandstates, The Kangaroo Republic, Stachland, Astograth, and Cabric, and you tell me if you still think this is a Cup of Losers? If you do, that must be some good stuff you’re smokin’. Additionally the experience and confidence that the players can get from an extended run in the Cup of Harmony can mean more to them then a three-and-out in the World Cup. Some might say the Cup of Harmony is different now, that more nations signing up means we have a deeper level of talent, but we feel that is not the case. There have been some deep fields in the Cup of Harmonies of years past, including when Candelaria and Marquez defeated Jeru FC for the COH 33 title at the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds. Both of those nations turned out well, as did the team that finished 3rd that year: Sorthern Northland. You may have noticed that they have a pretty big game against The Babbage Islands tomorrow. So, back when we said we proudly boast that we won three Cup of Harmony titles in four tries? Yeah, we meant that. There is no shame in being here. I don’t know how many fans from other nations are reading this issue of the Rocket Report right now, but that bears repeating: there is no shame in being here.

While the Rockets do expect to push as hard as they can for this title, it will not be an easy run, at all. They are in Group F, which has them here at Hendrix Stadium for games against Mangolana, North Chicanan, and Astogarth. Yes, the Rockets should advance, but you can’t take anything for granted. If you are making the trip, there are several things you can do in Woodstock on the off days, though we suggest that if you go to the Max Yasgur Centre for the Performing Arts, that you get a local or a Delaclav citizen to pay your way in.

This competition is only for teams that competed in World Cup 55 qualifying and did not make it to the World Cup. Unfortunately, you're not among that list of teams.

Our Friendly Hosts

Greetings from Portland, Somerset, Sarzonia. First thing I've gotta say is that the Sarzonians are just about the friendliest people you're ever likely to meet. They are trying their absolute hardest to make our stay as memorable and enjoyable as possible. The lovely folk here in Portland have certainly done their homework - maybe they even read my newspaper columns from the World Cup.

We did have some misgivings before we touched down. As we approached Fennerby Airport we could see ranks of warships in the bay and I remember thinking - how long does a naval revue go on for? Do they execute people at half time for entertainment? As it turns out, our fears were unfounded but there were other surprises awaiting us.

A gorgeous woman by the name of Ally Frost greeted us at the airport, informing us that she was our guide for the duration of our visit. Any problems and she would do her best to get it fixed. Her can-do attitude impressed us no end. It got even better - on the way to our hotel farositaloo (as we call her) outlined the cultural visits that had been arranged on our behalf (training schedule permitting). To our immense relief she advised that, due to our "cultural sensitivities", we wouldn't be visiting the Portland Iron Works or anything to do with arms manufacturing. Instead our hosts promised some surprises for us.

Our flight had been a horrible overnight affair. It was 9am local time by the time we had settled into our rooms and, to be honest, few of us were looking forward to the banquet that had been organised for our lunch. Most of us caught up with some much needed sleep but, typically, bundhai dashed straight into town to check out the sights. The lunch itself was sensational - farositaloo really had checked out our "cultural sensitivities". Not only was it vegetarian without us mentioning it, but they even had our national dish - sorrel soup. bundhai hadn't wasted her time in town, either. She'd already made a couple of friends and invited them to join the feast. A human rights activist called Ben Gleck spoke as we ate and presented mireyu with a commemmorative plaque for her contibutions to the cause of gay rights. mireyu spoke in response, explaining that she had not realised that her sexuality might be an issue for people until she had travelled overseas. She simply saw herself as a footballer. Nevertheless farositaloo and benagarreku were keen to be photographed with mireyu, bundhai (and her newly acquired lady friends), arrosei, firrera and yours truly. It's a shame sumika had exams back in Bemm River and couldn't join us. What can I say? The food was good. The company was good. A great time was had by all.

Making Waves

After lunch farositaloo took us to see the Portland Stock Exchange Complex. When she first mentioned it, mihairokon expressed delight. "You mean you have collectives too?" farositaloo seemed perplexed. mihairokon tried to clarify - "You know, you give me ten kilos of brown lentils and, in exchange, I come around and seal some of the gaps in the walls of your tree house." farositaloo patiently explained to us what a stock exchange was, expressing surprise that we didn't have any in Errinundera, to which klansee quipped, "If someone tried to build one, it'd be burned down before it was completed." farositaloo stared at us. It was one of those moments when two cultures just don't get each other. Full credit to her, however. She perservered with the visit despite our lack of enthusiasm. Not surprisingly, it turned out to be quite the miscalculation on her part. What with the overnight flight and the long lunch, most of us found the first comfortable spot we could and fell asleep.

That evening we were treated to a fireworks display at the ocean's edge. I sat on the beach and chatted with farositaloo for hours. She ended up coming back to the hotel with me. What a great start to the Cup of Harmony!

The world is not cyclical, not eternal or immutable, but endlessly transforms itself, and never goes back, and we can assist in that transformation.

Live on, survive, for the earth gives forth wonders. It may swallow your heart, but the wonders keep on coming. You stand before them bareheaded, shriven. What is expected of you is attention.

Jon Dahl Helguson steered his boat back towards the seaplane once more. The choppy seas were rocking the boat vigorously as he approached it, not that it bothered Jon Dahl all that much. He was practically born on the sea. He lived to sail. When the ice came in winter, he had to wait patiently on the shore, itching to get back out on the water again. That was the main reason he took this job in fact, plenty of time on the water ferrying folks hither and thither. Good fun. This time though, he wasn't collecting Virabi refugees from the seaplane, no, this time it was Polarian specialists.

Finally he drew up alongside the plane, sitting in waves proudly displaying the Polair livery, and he opened the door for those inside to get out.

"Welcome to Sørøya! My name is Jon Dahl! I'll be your ferryman today!" He shouted above the din of the engine. Helping the assortment of men and women in suits onto the boat he idly wondered which was which. Who was the doctor? Who was the nurse? Who was the surveyman, the engineer, and the farming consultant? Of course, the Virabi already had these type of skills, this was jsut to teach them how the land in the Islandstates responds and how to treat it. Something to get them on their way. To help them start to form their own just society here on Sørøya as quickly as possible.

The last person to be helped off was a woman in a black shawl, who jangled and tinkled when Jon Dahl helped her off. He reasoned that she must have been the spiritual advisor. Jon Dahl was a man of Farosea, and a man of logic, and so any type of belief in an all-powerful deity seemed bizarre to him. But then, that was the state of Sakhalin. They always had seemed a little odd to Jon Dahl, and if they wanted to believe in stuff like that, then best of luck to them. Imposing their spiritual ways, albeit separated from specific religions, with the refugees seemed a bit preachy to Jon Dahl, but then again it was the reason Sørøya was uninhabited in the first place, and it was still Sakhalin land, so if they wanted to impose something like that then, well, they had the power to.

Jon Dahl began to motor back to the island, Camp Helligdommen as they were calling it just visible nestled between the land and the sky, overshadowed by the impressive hill to the north, Hvaldjevelen Topp. Maybe it was just Jon Dahl's imagination, but he could have sworn the spiritual advisor was staring at the Topp the whole journey across.

---

Later that night, the Polarian specialists and the Virabi refugees were sharing dinner together in the mess tent, getting to know each other, getting to know the people with whom they'd be working to build a new town, when they was a huge crash from outside.

"What the hell was that?" came the sound from many voices as they ditched their meals to see what all the fuss was about.

"REPENT! REPENT AND LEAVE THIS ISLAND!" The spiritual advisor from the boat across was dancing wildly, throwing home made smoke grenades that were probably used in worship, jangling her bone necklaces, and sprinkling the ground with blood.

"Oh great, Polarian nationalist idiots," One of the Virabi went to turn back inside, but was pulled back by the Polarian sociologist,

"No, wait, she's no nationalist, look at her."

"REPENT! REPENT AND LEAVE THIS ISLAND! THIS ISLAND BELONGS TO THE WHALE-DEVILS! WE DO NOT LAND ON THIS LAND! WE STAY AWAY FROM THIS LAND! YOU STAY AWAY FROM THIS LAND! IT BELONGS TO THE WHALE-DEVILS! TO THE HVALDJEVELEN! THE HVALDJEVELEN! BAD ENOUGH THAT CENTØY FELL TO THE PARASITES, BUT NOT SØRØYA TOO! LEAVE THIS ISLAND! LEAVE THIS LAND! REPENT! REPENT! REPENT!..."

And she went her merry way, rattling sticks, bones, smoke grenades, snarling in the face of some of the refugees and showing her mad, painted, zealot face to the hill behind them all.

"OH SPIRITS! OH HVALDJEVELEN OF THE TOPP! COME DOWN AND SMITE THESE PARASITE!"

"Alright, that's quite enough out of you." said a couple of burly Virabi as they bundled her onto Jon Dahl's boat, ready for him to take her straight off the island.

"Nutjobs. Religious nutjobs. In the Federation?" asked one of the refugees?

"Aye. They live on Sakhalin. The Nordøen." Answered the sociologist, "There were two large islands that superstition held should stay empty because of the Whale-Devils that live there, the Hvaldjevelen. Obviously, when Arctacion had their crisi and their refugees inhabited the Centøy they made the same kind of racket. Nothing happened though. And now you lot are on the south island of Sakhalin, the Sørøya, the religious fanatics are upset because its the last expanse of land they had left for the Hvaldjevelen. There will probably be a few more like that old lady sneak onto the island, but don't worry, they're a dying breed. The younger generations don't go in for it all really, and it'll all be fine. The nation is welcoming you with open arms. Come along, let's get back to the mess hall, we have much to discuss."

But as they walked away from the harbour area, a few of the Virabi couldn't help but look over their shoulders at the gibbering mad-woman. She was making them uneasy. One young man in particular, tall, and rangy, stood looking at her longer than the rest as the bitter wind swirled around him

"No good can come of this," he said, as he turned to walk inside.

Mangolana Gazzette
Mangolana prepares for Cup of Harmony

The Mangolana national team after having high World Cup qualifing hopes, Mangolana found themselves with a second apperance in two tries to the Cup of Harmony. This Cup of Harmony unlike the last, Mangolana has recieved the benifit of the draw, and instead if being drawn as the worst team in the group as they were last year, Mangolana was drawn as the second best team in the group, only behind Newmanistan. So now, they once again have high expectations for them. Mangolana is expected to at least reach the quarterfinals, and at the least the RO16.

The team will once again with former player and Captain Robert Jimenez as the manager and has also made a move that is dedicated to former player, Franklim Ordonez, who still ast this moment remains in a coma in critical condition at Mascona memorial hospital. The team has appointed Franklim's 10 year old son, as the assistant manager. Yes, he may be young and not qualified for the job, but the team wanted to do this for Franklim and his family. George Ordonez, 10, is a current player on the Mascona FC super amatuer team and could possibly be making the move to the amatuer team any time now due to his amazing skill, so don't be shocked to see his name on a World Cup roster a few years from now.

The team will be led by captain Jonathan Montgomery, and hs prediction is a good one. "The team is jelling now, we all know each other, we all go out on our off nights, and we all know that we can do this. I wouldn't be surprised if the dark horse in this tournament is Mangolana, and I believe that we have the talent to win the whole damn thing."

Chicanan Daily Rabbler
Here with a large headline!

Hoops In With Very low Expectations
FA Still not Talking, Opposition Writing Off The Side

Jason Pinkersen, Woodstock, Sarzonia

The North Chicanan nation had hopes of being in Sarzonia for the World Bowl. Instead, the gridiron boys are sulking after their disaster and the the footy side will be silent for a three match swing in Woodstock for the Cup of Harmony.

The Hoops earned their invite from the hosts thanks to their strong....ish fifth place finish during the World Cup qualifying round. Sure, let's say strongish. The FA surprised most sports pundits by accepting the invite, with some within CitySport expecting the FA to take the break given to hire one of their preferred choices as coach. Instead, the FA issued one of their sparse statements congratulating the side on the invite and sent them along.

With the minders, obviously. How the FA continues to get away with a blanket silence on the national team is beyond anyone, as national players and coaches are not allowed to respond to texts, calls or messages on their message boards or Northern Connect social links. The block by the FA remains in response to the outcry over the removal of the national team's previous coach and the massive demonstrations by the citizens at the capital, St. John's. While the two-million-strong numbers have shrunk towards a more manageable 25-30 thousand along the Southern Promenade, the FA still sees the protests as the biggest challenge to their constant reign over the footballing organization and has sought to minimize the effects of the protests, secretly pushing out two leaders with the Premier Divisions in order to prevent the Premiers and the Federation Divisions from breaking off their connections with the FA.

In case you were curious, the Ministry of Sport and the North Chicanan Olympic Committee have made it clear that they cannot legally get involved with the FA issue, while members of the Assembly are pushing to allow Sport to step in and re-hold elections. The vote is expected during Matchday 3 against Mangolana so we could have really interesting news on the matter.

As for the Cup of Harmony...well, two of our opponents have deemed the Hoops, who jumped up to 83rd in the world, as a non-existent entity - with Newmanistan considering themselves already in the knockout stage (and also ignoring that the Hoops may not have made the final 8 in the Baptism of Fire, but in their "re"debut made the Cup of Harmony and were seeded higher than Astogarth, who the Hoops play second) and and Mangolana projecting the hoops for last place. Now, considering the Seawolves failed to do well against lower-rated sides while in World Bowl, the Hoops have shown a willingness to spring traps on teams with a strong belief the team is just a walk over. Josiah Rhys-Williams knows he's on borrowed time (unless the Assembly gives Sport a smidge of power) but has to hope the side will take advantage of making their first Cup - and making it out in the third pot (thus not one of the lowest-rated sides) to maybe take a win and other points. The betters are a little bit more sold on the teams chances than their opposition, with 135-1 odds of making the round of 16 and 35-1 odds of getting 4 points in play. Of course, you also have even odds of the team going 0-0-3 so who knows.

We doubt the boys will be completely sold on the international press' complete dismissal of the Hoops, but we're hoping for a decent result. Two points from ties, ecking out a third place finish in the process.

Schedule:
MD1: Astogarth
MD2: Newmanistan
MD3: Mangolana

What we do know is come Monday the team will open in their all-reds, Tuesday will be the all-whites and Wednesday will see the team break out the Orange Stars Tribute - an all-orange kit with white piping and three white stars on the right shoulder. The kit will also debut the new logo for the FA, which is expected to use the Orange Stars and the Hoops motifs to pay tribute to the past and present. We would suggest a claw for the Kodiak namesake but the FA is sticking to that for the national cup so don't expect a clawmark anywhere on the logo.

(Cue catchy theme music (in the mind of the producer) and various screenshots of great Newmanistan sports moments for about 15 seconds).

“Welcome to Pocono City Tonight, I’m your host Shannon Spencer, and that guy next to me, well you know who that is beside me. Though that tie dye shirt; that’s gotta go.”

“Wait, wait. I lost my nametag. Let’s see what this paper says. Oh yeah, I’m Kyle Collins. Phew, got worried. Sorry you don’t like my shirt, Shannon, everyone, can’t be as stunningly gorgeous as you are. It’s really a credit to our makeup crew.”

“Yes as always. We have a lot to cover with three major sports declaring the signup period open today. The international sports community just never sleeps, and the Emperor has already bid to host one of those events, of course that being the 19th World Baseball Classic.”

“That’s good for us. Signing up for sports means we still have a job!”

“Yes, Kyle. And too bad for One Big Island ally The Babbage Islands on their loss in the World Cup final. Congrats to Sorthern Northland, the first nation Newmanistan ever played in an interregional anything.”

“Ever wonder why we are called One Big Island when there are in fact other island nations, and there are in fact, several islands? And by the way, good for Sorthern Northland. We didn’t need another nation in the region boasting that they have won a World Cup before we did.”

(They show some highlights of the World Cup Final match and briefly analyze).

“But as we know, Kyle, there is so much more football left to be played as the Cup of Harmony gets set to begin with Newmanistan taking on the Mangos. Followed by the Chicas and the Asteroids. What do you think of these group mates?”

“I think they need to be ready to roll over and play dead for the Rockets to come bursting though. Mangolana, they’re coming up in the world. Still, a team we should beat. We have this North Chicanan team playing the we can’t get no respect song and dance routine. Perhaps coming to Woodstock puts them in that mood.”

“They felt a prior issue of the Rocket Report should have mentioned them.”

“Why, what did they do in the Baptism of Fire?”

“They placed 12th.”

“Exactly. As a returning nation in the Baptism of Fire because of the loophole. Astograth was a pure first-timer. Therefore they fit the category we were placing them in better then North Chicanan. I didn’t realize a twelfth place finish in a Baptism of Fire was something to write home about.”

“Kyle, don’t you think you’re being a little unfair? There were like 500 teams in the Baptism of Fire this year.”

"Unfair? Nope."

“I’m sure they’ll just love to hear this opinion, you should really respect them a whole lot more.”

“I’ll tell you what, Shannon. They are more then welcome to use my quotes as bulletin board material. As a matter of fact, I’ll personally staple them to their bulletin board myself. The fact is, North Chicanan was not one of the top Baptism of Fire nations, whether they care to admit that or not. If you want respect, earn it. The Cup of Harmony can be a stepping stone, but really, the only group team you can beat within Group F that will get anyone’s attention is the Rockets. Because really, no one cares about Astograth either. And Mangolana is too raw still. The Mangos are trying to climb but still have a way to go themselves.”

“Kyle, you’re so much like your father with your brash attitude.”

“Well, perhaps a couple first timers are getting a Baptism of the So-Called Arrogance of the Newmanistan media in the Cup of Harmony as well. (Laughs)”

“I have no part of that, or I try not too anyway. Sarzonians would know this arrogant side well, though because of the greatest sport ever.”

“Nice segue into the next segment. We’ll move into the World Baseball Classic 19 preparations, for the team, and the Emperor’s hosting proposal right after some important messages from our sponsors. Please watch them. Because without the money they paid the station, we couldn’t afford the greatest makeup artists in the world that make Shannon look so amazing.”

“(laughs) We’ll be back after this.”

It looked like the Kazzorian football team could at some point fall apart. The players were all moving to different countries to live and there was something even more challenging ahead. The King of Kazzoria now had his own team. They were called the Burty Royals and they were all trained courgettes. The public were bound to mindlessly follow the team which was managed by the king. They had no chance of competing with it. Jack Seagam the head of the Kazzorian football orginisation was unsure about what he should do. He seriously was stuck like a fly in jam. He decided to call Jamie Sirea in to have a chat.

"Hello?" Jamie Sirea sounded worried, he always did when talking to the FO.

"Don't worry. No one else can here our call."

Jamie's tone relaxed "So who is it then?"

"Jack you dumb human being!"

"Okay. What's the call about?"

"It's about improving on our national team. You see the King has a team now and they could end up outstriping us in popularity."

"I see. What can we do about this though?"

"Well. If you happen to qualify for the next world cup or win the CoH we could..."

There was a short pause.

"Or we could what?"

"If we do well in the Cup of Harmony or Qualify for the world cup we can sell to a forign audience."

"Okay. That sound like a plan. So from now on no death threats?"

"No death threats."

"Great, bye."

Jamie Hung up the phone and James sat down and sighed. He looked down at the paper and looked at who they were likely to play in the next round of the cup of harmony. It was probably going to be Pasarga, Erathore of Polar Islandstates. Kazzoria had played PI once before. It had been a defeat in the Burchadingan cup, the public would like a win over them. The other two teams however were pretty big as teams go, but then a game and a victory over Pasarga would sell to forigners. James gave up and decided that it was probably time he got some sleep.

***

The two posh men had decided to start up a radio station over they internet about their experience in Sarzonia and for news from the team. They were just hopeful that the technology would work. They botth sat down and decided they should get on with it.

<Martin>Hello I'm Martin!

<Jimmy>And I'm Jimmy!

<Martin>This is BubbleSport and were are an online radio station. We will be following the progress of Kazzoria throught the cup and will be making a video every game.

<Jimmy>Yes and at the minute the Kazzorians are just relaxing in their hotel.

<Martin>That's is what the latest is Jimmy, their training regime will start tomorrow with a practise game against the reserve players and against Burty Royals. Although the game against Burty Royals could draw a large crowd as the teams fight for the love of Kazzorian fans and forign fans. I think that might just be a great match.

<Jimmy>Me too. The crowd of Kazzorians will be about 12,500 on the latest estimate. But I have a feeling that it might end up with the Royals beign thoughrougly beaten. However I could be wrong.

<Martin>Lets face it, that game won't matter. What will be important however will be the first game against ASMV which could be a pretty vital match to the group.

<Jimmy>Well it could still be vital towards their confidence levels, but then a win against ASMV could leave them full of confidence again.

<Martin> Okay then. See you all again next week.

They then tried to play it back on their laptop, but then they realised something. They had to press a little red button to record it. They then pressed the button and did the same report again.

Dear Diary,

So. I've decided to use you instead of throwing you away. Why? Because when I'm the best player in the world everyone will be dying to read my memoirs, of course. Why now? Because I'm about to earn my first senior cap. The first of many, mark my words.

Anyway, here I am in Woodstock sharing a room with that brute Mendizko. He's dumb and he smells, though there isn't anyone else I'd rather be with. I don't know anybody here. Well, OK, I do. I know the guys who were at the Di Bradini Cup with me, but they're nobodies at this point. Unlike me and maybe Sapano, who's at Shadows, they'll never take off. With just a quick look at someone like Burruchaga, you can tell they lack the ambition to go places. They're destined to wallow around in the Astograth their whole careers, earning a couple of titles if they're lucky.

As for the others, I'm trying to warm up to them, see if they can put in a good word for me here and there. If I can get Urrustoy to take me with him to Juvapanam I'll be taking a big step towards greatness, but it won't be easy. I'd seen him on TV as a tough anchor man, tackling and covering space with the utmost ease, bellowing harsh orders when the rest weren't giving it their best. Then I get here and find he's silent, contemplative and impossible to get close to.

Well, enough about the players. Let's focus on this Cup of Harmony thing. We got a hard group, but then again we're bottom seeds and it could've been worse. Our opponents are Newmanistan, Mangolana and North Chicanan. We held Mangolana to a draw in a friendly some months back, so beating them is a possibility. Never seen the others play, but they look good. Show no respect is what we've got to do, that's what took us to the DBC knockouts. Demand respect and give out none, that's how I roll.

Jonasei: Cup of Harmony. Hmmm. Better than a three-and-done in the World Cup.

Kymy: Bullshit. But it’s a great tournament anyway. Some solid teams in with us this time.

Ciara: Yeah, we get Kazzoria in the group stage.

Mace: Yo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want
So tell me what you want, what you really really want
I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want
So tell me what you want, what you really really want
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really
Really really wanna zigazig ha

Keil: Spice Girls? Really? C’mon Mace. Damn.

Kymy: Not gonna be a pretty one, this time.

Ciara: It very rarely is. Rumor has it that Kali’Kalii will be sacked if we do not do very well in the CoH.’

Mace: If you want my future forget my past
If you wanna get with me better make it fast
Now don't go wasting my precious time
Get your act together we could be just fine

Jonasei: If we do not perform very well in the CoH we might just all get sacked,

Keil: Kazzoria. Those guys could be really tough,

Kymy: They will be, as will the Kangaroo Peoples and the Kaiser Colonies,

Mace: I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want
So tell me what you want, what you really really want
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really
Really really wanna zigazig ha

Jonasei: Didn’t the Roos win the BoF?

Kymy: Yep. They looked rather solid as well, until the qualifiers where they underperformed.

Ciara: But We never even won a BoF. We finished 2nd.

Mace: If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends
Make it last forever friendship never ends
If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give
Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is

Kymy: That was a long time ago.

Keil: Sarzonia is in this CoH as well. Should be favorites along with us.

Ciara: Sarzonia, Novikov, Virabia, PAP, Cotdelapoms, Landau, Milchama, Rejis, the list goes on..

Mace: What do you think about that now you know how I feel
Say you can handle my love are you for real
I won't be hasty, I'll give you a try
If you really bug me then I'll say goodbye

Jonsei: What about North Chicanan?

Kymy: Who?

Keil: Is that a real nation or did you make it up?

Mace: I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want
So tell me what you want, what you really really want
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really
Really really wanna zigazig ha[/I]

Jonasei: They’re real. Down in Group F with the Rockets.

Ciara: Newmanistan I have heard of and they can be awesome.

Kymy: It says something that they were good enough to get an invite.

Mace: If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends
Make it last forever friendship never ends
If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give
Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is

Keil: Still never heard of them/ They cant be that good/

Kymy. Forgot North Chicanan. Kazzoria is up forst.

Ciara: And they will be gunning hard for us.

Mace: So here's a story from a to z, you wanna get with me
You gotta listen carefully
We got em in the place who likes it in your face
We got g like mc who likes it on an
Easy v doesn't come for free, she's a real lady
And as for me you'll see
Slam your body down and wind it all around
Slam your body down and wind it all around

Jonasei: Don’t want to drop points on the first match.

Kymy: Nope. That will make it hard the last two matches.

Ciara: Let’s go win our second CoH.

Mace: If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends
Make it last forever friendship never ends
If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give
Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is

If you wanna be my lover, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta
You gotta, you gotta, slam, slam, slam, slam
Slam your body down and wind it all around
Slam your body down and wind it all around
Slam your body down and wind it all around
Slam your body down zigazig ah
If you wanna be my lover

Stachland’s Cup of Harmony Preview

Stachland’s national football team, accompanied by several dozen friends, family, and fans, arrived in Portland, Sarzonia three days prior to the start of Cup of Harmony play on a Boeing 747-400 jet operated by Stachland’s international airline, Aerostach-Harmony. After a bitter ending to the Baptism of Fire and the unsuccessful World Cup qualifying campaign that nevertheless saw them climb from 297th to 84th in the world, the last two weeks had been almost devoid of excitement whatsoever, save for the final two matches of Stachland’s professional football league, the National Series.

Everett Lang, the national squad’s team captain, arrived in Sarzonia just four days after his professional team, the Chevrin Nova, were defeated in the championship match of the National Series by the Chevronia Stars, the Nova’s fourth consecutive defeat. Lang stated privately that he was glad to be spared the awkwardness of having a Stars member playing for the national team—this excluding, of course, the team’s coach, Theodore Czacki, who had been with the Stars since 1998 and had led them to four championships in that time.

Joined by his girlfriend Aurora Farrell, fellow midfielder Janus Chambliss came to Sarzonia with a fresh outlook, as his professional team, the Manju Island Kingfishers, had been eliminated at the end of the regular season by the Nova, before the beginning of the Baptism of Fire. He had taken the two weeks to travel around the region of The Flying Squadron, making stops in Ketharnia, Camerania, and Kubrath, as well as several cities and towns in Stachland.

Goalkeeper Navering Pounchtal, who will join Chambliss on the Kingfishers’ roster next season, kept in practice during the break, playing exhibition matches with the minor league Lanucho Stallions of the Super Series. Over four matches, the Alossie Mountain State University keeper allowed no goals, once again proving himself to be one of the country’s greatest goalkeepers of all time.

Joining the team and its coaches in Sarzonia are several notable Stachlanders, including Water World Championships canoeing competitors Jon Kaysone and Cece Thammis, as well as Water World gold medalist in the three-meter springboard Wells Altair. Member of the Popular Congress Willa Browning (Communist-Caprillar and Lippe) will be representing the Stachlandic government in the stands at each of the three group games, while incoming Majority Leader Shahal Areebuy will be present for the first match against Errinundera, and has stated that he shall return if the squad advances into the elimination rounds.

The starting lineup shall remain unchanged from the World Cup qualifying campaign, because, as coach Czacki stated: “As first-time contenders, we performed so well in our qualifying group that there isn’t any reason to change.”

The roos are in for the CoH 47

The roos didn't exactly do too well in the world cup as they ended 7th in the qualifying groups of the world cup. However, this was only the FKR's debut in the world cup, and for our standards, we actually managed to hold out very well and so far, the roos have managed to exceed all expectations.

The roos are back with a new manager for the CoH after the previous manager, Peter Norakxezix Kroeken, was fired, when investigators found conclusive evidence that the ex-manager had bribed his way to this position. A sad turn of events, as this could seriously damage the reputation of the fair-play mentality of the national football team of the FKR.

Peter Norakxezix Kroeken was formally replaced by the much more competent Enart Ruzakvax Kerke, a red kangaroo with a great amount of football experience. Indeed, Kerke used to play for Gautkozt United during this team's golden years, and his managerial experience is certainly great too, as he managed to bring the national trophy to Riviruz when he was manager of Riviruz VK in 2008.

Another notable little something is that Sem Norakxezix Dant has still not recovered from his injury which he has sustained in the baptism of fire, leaving the starter squad of the FKR without a single western grey roo still. However, there have been reports stating that Dant will be able to make a return later in the cup of harmony. Something which all the westerners are of course already looking forward to.

So, here we are. The cup of harmony 47. Those who think that his cup is going to be a walk in the park are horribly mistaken. It has been proven time and time again that the competitiveness in the cup of harmony can be just as great, if not greater, than in the world cup.

The roos were placed in group H, along with the following teams:
  • Andossa Se Mitrin Vega
  • Kazzoria
  • The Kiaser Colonies

Now, is there perhaps any nation which we recognize? Hmm? That's right Kiaser Colonies. One of the other teams that made it's international debut in the 42nd baptism of fire, where they ended 55th whilst the roos continued their asskicking adventure all the way to the finals, which they won. The Kiaser Colonies are now ranked 112th in the world rankings, behind the Kangaroo Republic, which is ranked 80 th in the world rankings.

But there are more nations which we recognize right? Perhaps Andossa Se Mitrin Vega? Ranked 17th in the world rankings? Well what on earth are THEY doing in the cup of harmony. And we also have Kazzoria, ranked 55th in the world rankings.

To make things short, this group might prove to be even tougher than the qualifying groups of the 55th world cup.
