As you can see, Yannick Davidson and the Cap Nordique Argonauts are cruising towards another Darjeeling Cup, thusfar losing only twice, a snoozer to second place Montréal, and an exciting shootout with PBI. Montréal hold on to second place despite a flimsy defence and even flimsier offence. A close fight in the southern division is currently led by the Sea Dogs, whose defence has been stirling this season- led by Line Backer Ricky Jaïr-Larousse, who has terrorised opposing Quarterbacks and Receivers all year long.

(OOC: There's been a tonne of things going on in my life and as a result, I've been been disappointingly inactive on this front, and really RP'ing anything but the national football team. In all honesty, that will probably continue, but until then here's some results.)

Image

Here is the final table for the season that was last operating. I will try to RP the next season more thoroughly. Hopefully.

In the first part of our season preview, here's a report on supporter culture for each of Série A's 12 clubs.

Image

CAP NORDIQUE

Supporter culture: Cap Nordique, whilst not having the largest support, has perhaps the most fiercely loyal supporters. Cap is a more industrial city than most of the country and the people are very independent. Being northerly, the city also has a much higher population of people who are ethnically Swartazian and Mytanar and so they identify much more with the players who are also ethnically Swartazian or Mytanar, regardless of where they are from. They travel very well and dislike the teams from Albionpool the most.

CELTIC

Supporter culture: Celtic are the 3rd biggest club in Albionpool and they are definitely insecure about this fact. Celtic have a much smaller fanbase than most other clubs, and they are not particularly loud or aggressive. Celtic’s supporters are generally more upper class than the other two clubs, and they are often picked on for this. They do, however, travel better than most teams in the league- Celtic fans can be found at just about any park.

COSMOPOLITAN

Supporter culture: Cosmopolitan’s fans are numerous and entitled. As the most successful team in Cotdelapoms, the fans expect nothing less than total domination and are disappointed when they get anything less. There are Cosmopolitan fans all over the country, but the actual Cosmopolitan supporters who turn up at the stadium every week do not travel as much. The Cosmopolitan supporters also have the traditional Cotdelapomais inferiority complex and are most into the foreign players, as they feel it makes them seem cultured. Their main rival is Sparta, and those matches are very heated and tense in the stands.

DOMINION

Supporter culture: Dominion’s fans are well aware that their club has a reputation of just being sellers, so they set their standards low for the club. They are a team with a smaller fanbase, but those fans are pretty loyal. Their primary rivalry is with Worcester, who they consider uncivilized and beneath them, but the Dominion supporters are secretly terrified that Worcester are about to pass them in the standings.

ÉTOILE ROUGE

Supporter culture: Easily the most peculiar supporters in the league, the people of Île-d'Elisabeth love their club, but they are seemingly more interested in seeing attractive football than winning. Except of course, for matches against hated Maritime, where winning at all costs is the objective. Étoile Rouge’s fans are generally friendly and positive spirited and come up with some of the best tifo and chants, but they do have a reputation for being fickle- they will turn on a player or coach pretty quickly. They are also much more involved in the community that a lot of other club’s fans, so they expect the same from the players.

MARITIME

Supporter culture: The Maritime fans are much less intellectual and peace loving than the Étoile Rouge fans and generally find them to be obnoxious. Maritime recently did some hard time in the lower divisions and this shrunk the fan base a little bit, but Maritime’s supporters are still generally a decent sized and rowdy bunch. Outside of the east coast, nobody seems to feel too strongly about Maritime and there is really no need to- they are rarely super successful and the fans don’t really travel, although visiting supporters can feel intimidated.

MONTRÉAL

Supporter culture: More than anything, Montréal is a hockey town, so whilst the football club is popular, they are not the city’s number one sporting passion. When the football club are doing poorly, ironic chants of “Allez Citoyens, Allez!”, the chant for the major local hockey team tend to rise up. However, in recent years, there have been fewer and fewer poor performances, with silverware seemingly alternating between Montréal and Cosmopolitan, which has grown the fanbase considerably, to the point that ticket prices at Stade de la rue Acadia have grown higher and higher. As a result, some of the hardcores are being priced out, but they can still be found on the road at just about any stadium in the league. Montréal’s home support is large, flambouyant and loud, but not always the most knowledgeable as they are largely hockey fans first.

SAINTE-CATHERINE

Supporter culture: After a brief run near the top of the table, things are back to normal for Saints, and the long suffering fans expect nothing else. The pink army are among the most vocal supporters in the league, and since Sainte-Catherine is the smallest city in Série A they are also the only game in town. Saints supporters are smart, loud and numerous, but they do not travel extraordinarily well, perhaps because it is expensive to fly from there to other cities since Sainte-Catherine does not have a large airport nor another large city nearby.

SAINT-URBAIN

Supporter culture: One of the league's smallest clubs, they have one of the league's smallest fanbases to go with it. Probably the only arena in Série A where one would not be surprised to see empty seats. The Saint-Urbain fans that show up are passionate enough, although they are a little aggressive. Their geographical rival is Montréal, but as that rivalry is so one sided their more traditional feud is with Laval, who they played regularly in Série B (where Laval currently are).

SPARTA

Supporter culture: "The People's club", Sparta have a massive fanbase that stretches across the country that is generally much more populist than their Albionpool rivals Cosmopolitan. They are generally very good fans, knowledgeable, passionate, loud and large, and also pretty good at traveling. However, since they support a big Albionpool club, they are generally not well liked elsewhere, which confuses them. Many Sparta fans think everyone loves them other than Cosmopolitan fans.

TOUT-PUISSANT OUTREMONT

Supporter culture: Everybody hates them, they don't care! Outremont is the second biggest city in Marianne and the third largest in the country, but for a long time they were without top flight football, and now suddenly they are home to the league's wealthiest club, a team with seemingly more money than sense that will just sign any big name foreigner interested in coming. As a result, Outremont is seen with jealousy by a lot of opposing fanbases, and the locals are totally ok with this. Outremont's fans are loud, arrogant and aggressive, but they are not particularly numerous- Outremont is not a huge sporting town and much of the sporting attention is taken up by the Owls hockey team anyway. There are Tout-Puissant fans all over the multiverse, however, due to the many popular foreign players on the team.

WORCESTER HEARTS

Supporter culture: Worcester has a traditionally more working class fanbase, and the tough tacklers and good goalkeepers are always the fan favourites at Hearts. Kagdaz manager Miro Stefanyshyn is perfect for this club as he preaches a defence first "Christmas tree" formation that encourages such players to be the stars, and he is perhaps the most popular manager in Série A with the home crowd. Worcester are traditional rivals with Dominion, but are rarely at the same level, so now is an exciting time for them.

Round of Sixteen
Amherst 0-1 Celtic (0-1 agg)

Cosmopolitan Albionpool 1-1 Côte-Nord (2-1 AET, 2-1 agg)

Saint-Urbain 4-0 Étoile Rouge (4-0 agg)

Cap Nordique 1-1 Vannes (1-1 AET, 1-1 agg, 1-3 PKs)

Tout-Puissant Outremont 1-0 Sparta Albionpool (1-0 agg)

Portsmouth 0-1 Kingston (0-1 agg)

Vc'Irt'Xik Tourists 3-4 Worcester Hearts (3-4 agg)

Maritime 0-2 Montréal (0-2 agg)

Here's where the real fun begins, Étoile Rouge's humiliation at the hands of Saint-Urbain ruined another cup run for the Île d'Elisabeth squad. Cap Nordique fell in penalties to little Vannes, who seemed highly outmatched as Cap Nordique put out their primary squad. Two of Cotdelapomais football's heavy hitters matched up as Tout-Puissant Outremont faced Sparta, but neither side used their A-squad, so it's impact was lessened. Tiny Vc'Irt'Xik Tourists had 2-0 and 3-1 leads, but lost to a late Worcester rally.

Quarter Finals
Celtic 4-2 Cosmopolitan Albionpool (4-2 agg)

Tout-Puissant Outremont 1-0 Worcester Hearts (1-0 agg)

Kingston 1-2 Montréal (1-2 agg)

Saint-Urbain 3-1 Vannes (3-1 agg)

Can you say Albionpool derby? The Cosmos portion of the city was unhappy with the result, as Celtic took them out on a pair of huge goals from Helio Teixiera. Worcester's run ended at the feet of Gaëtan LaChance, whose free kick put Outremont ahead. Montréal held off a late rally by Kingston to advance to the semis and Vannes' miracle run fell short as Saint-Urbain were in control all match.

Semi Finals
Tout-Puissant Outremont 3-1 Montréal (3-1 agg)

Saint-Urbain 0-0 Celtic (0-1 AET, 0-1 agg)

Celtic won a nail biter against unfashionable Saint-Urbain thanks to a surprising figure, Saint-Urbain defender Mayer Looo, whose accidental header into his own net secured the win for the Gwenn ha Du in the 101st. Meanwhile, Montréal simply collapsed after purple wave after purple wave of attack from Outremont, who were desperate to win their first ever silverware.

Finals
Tout-Puissant Outremont 3-0 Celtic (3-0 agg)

The stage was set for Tout-Puissant to battle Celtic at the brand new Stade de Cotdelapoms, and the fans for both sides were elated. Outremont has never won silverware, and it's been a few years since Celtic last won anything of note. There was a lot of tension before the match, but it was burst for the purple ones in the 11th on an easy tap in from Ivan Otehiveu. Celtic were on their heels for the rest of the match, never really looking a threat, and in the 30th, Outremont made it 2-0 on a beauty of a long range blast from their captain Johan Hesse. The rain started to fall, which only enhanced Outremont's chances as they play much more along the ground than Celtic do, and Celtic were never really into it. Late into the match Outremont added a 3rd and final from new signing Eualdo Nkong, in the right place at the right time after a series of headers back and forth in the box. Champagne was popped as Tout-Puissant Outremont are officially Coupe Fritidien! champions.

Potazzi Série A Off-Season Rumours

With the relegation of both Celtic and Maritime, a lot of big names need to find new homes, including national team regulars Rodrigo Lopez, Jonathan Barrie, Lucas Ribeiro, Helio Teixeira and Raphaël Dubé. The first player of note to find a new home has been Lars Hegg Gammel, goalkeeper from Polar Islandstates who has bailed on Celtic and gone to Saint-Urbain, last year's surprise team.

Louis-Yves Lafayette, the Montréal legend, will be retiring after the Champions' Cup, which may set off a wave of open jobs for the defending Série A champions. Rumours have the foreign strike pairing of Zlatko Zedafski and Miguel Silva heading out, which would decimate Le Tricolore, who would like nothing more than to keep last season's league leading scorer in the bleu, blanc et rouge.

Shock Globe Cup entrants Worcester Hearts were guided to an excellent season under Miro Stefanyshyn's christmas tree formation, and are quietly looking into swooping in to sign both Dubé and Barrie, but also have their eyes set on some foreign acquisitions.

Albionpool Ravens made their way into the 32nd Nova Cambrian Football League final, where they took on the Cambridge BayBirds. The battle of the birds was a close one going down to the wire, Cambridge lead 66-65 with barely any time left, Marc Cole of the Ravens had an opportunity to put it away after a mark. Unfortunately for our side, the ball was off-centre and was just a behind, tying to score at 66. The BayBirds recovered and scored a goal with just seconds left to win the match and the league in dramatic fashion.

Albionpool Ravens 9.12.66
Cambridge BayBirds 10.12.72

IC: Pei Wong, a Syvorjin rugby player announces his intention to join the leagues in Cotdelapomais, in hopes of bringing inspiration to Syvorjins in Cotdelapomais, especially if they love Rugby, which plenty of Syvorjins do to calm themselves down.

OOC: You can RP Pei Wong, Cotdelapomais.

Cotdelapomais hockey players generally tend to stay domestic, but if you have a player or two that wants to come to Cotdelapoms, a few teams (especially the Royals and Caribou) are very interested in scouting "non-traditional" markets for players.

What position does Pei Wong play? Worcester Distillers would do anything it takes to try to bring a decent club to this rugby-loving city.
