Ellismare Preliminära (Cycling)

Postby Polar Islandstates » Wed May 11, 2011 8:19 am

To whet your collective appetites for another summer of cycling, and as both a way of testing the edits I made to Liventia's cycling scorinator and seeing if my new "pain-free" method of collating results is viable for a larger tour, the Federation of Polar Islandstates will be hosting a small cycle tour around the island and states of Ellismare.

HOW WILL IT WORK?
There will be three main stages, scorinated once per day, sometime next week. These stages will be
Grise Fiord - Daugen: ~100km more or less flat with a sprint finish
Daugen - Bathurst: ~125km climbing stage
Bathurst - Grise Fiord: ~75km mix of flat and climb with a sprint finish
As mentioned, the stages will be scorinated with Liventia's cycling scorinator, and compiled with what I hope is a quick and easy method I have devised.
In addition to these three main stages, there will be a short downhill stage each day. ICly this would work as a mini-time trial with riders setting off at intervals of about 30 seconds, and the riders have time to change back to road bikes at the bottom of the downhill course, from where the main stage of the day will begin. As times for these stages would typically be five minutes or less, they will not have a huge effect on the General Classification, and there would be a points-based system to determine the winner of the downhill stages overall. These stages would also be scorinated once per day, and the results posted at the same time as the main stages.
RP bonus would be modest, and applied to all riders in the team you're RPing about.

WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT?
A chance to enjoy some cycling fun, test your riders for the summer, and witness me struggling with a large time-based event. Maybe even to test your cycling RP skills if they've gotten rusty.

WHAT DO I GET OUT OF IT?
A chance to test the changes I made to the scorinator.
A chance to test the points allocation system I've put in place for climbing stages, sprints at the end of flat stages, and downhill stages.
A chance to see whether I'm up to the rigours of the longer tour around all my states that I have planned (eighteen stages)
A chance to see if the downhill segment idea is one that has any legs whatsoever.
A chance to gauge interest.

HOW DO YOU ENTER?
Give me a team name. Then, give me four riders. To each of these riders you may allocate a total of 17 points between FLAT, CLIMB, and DOWNHILL. The stages will be allocated points by me depending on their IC content, but for this preliminary competition assume it would be 50/50 on average between flat and climb on all the road stages when put together. Downhill will either be "on" or "off".
One of your riders may be your "lead rider" and he will get a bonus point to allocate.
No single attribute may be given more than 9 points in any one rider.
Copy my entry below if you're not sure.
Users may enter more than one team if they wish, even three teams if it so please you, I need testing after all.

Signups will close on Monday sometime, I'll let you know beforehand when that will be, and the tour will run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, exact times to be decided.

Team name: Asal éide spóirt – Sorthern Racing (AÉS)

Profile: Sponsored by Asal éide spóirt, a sportswear company, the Asal éide spóirt – Sorthern Racing team is the leading team in the professional Sorthern peloton, and as such are also the nation's de facto national team in international events.

Directeur sportif: Mitxel Mariñelarena is the teams lively Directeur sportif. A bit of a wine fan, Has previously taken to the wheel of the team car after a bottle or two, which led to a small number of cyclists ending up in hospital. Recently however he has often been found directing his riders from the passenger seat, and often considerably by regularly being given sizeable dozes of sedatives. Also has a surname no one can remember how to spell so is usually referred to by just his first name.

Team jersey:

Riders:

Daithí Meallán: F3, C 9, D 6
Koldobika Ibaiguren: F4, C 7, D 6
Alesander Valrojo: F3, C7, D7
Nicola Fairhead: F9, C3, D5

Team name: McLafferty's Sorthern Stout (MSS)

Profile: Sponsored by the brewery responsible for one of Sorthern Northland's most popular beers, the McLafferty's team were able to quickly gain a following by giving spectators at races a free pint of their drink. With sprinter Abbán Mac Cába taking up the team leadership duties McLafferty's main goal will be a stage win, though that a stage win will set up nicely for overall victory surely won't be far from their minds.

Directeur sportif: Fran Ventoso has arguably been one of the most influential people in Sorthern cycling. In many ways it was his gold medal in the road race at the Third Summer Olympics - Sorthern Northland's first Olympic gold in any sport - that bought cycling to the awareness and into the hearts of the Sorthern populace. A fine sprinter and a somewhat spontaneous racer, the McLafferty's team under Ventoso have been somewhat prone to making audacious attacks.

Team jersey:

Riders:

Abbán Mac Cába: F9, C4, D5
Keshia Marler: F9, C4, D4
Shane Connemara: F8, C4, D5
Trìonag Nic Eòghainn: F7, C3, D7

Team name: Conganchnes Pro Cycling (CPC)

Profile: A newly formed team, so recently so they've not even released a kit yet, sponsored by Conganchnes, a television sports network famed for attempting to bring extreme ironing into the Sorthern mainstream. For a brief period it even succeeded, though this was later put down to Sorthern apathy to the Sixth Winter Olympics which were ongoing and being shown on the nation's main SNTV channels at the time. Despite Conganchnes move into cycling being an undoubted way to increase it's profile the team's formation has been somewhat haphazard to the extent that two of it's riders, leader Prince Nkansah and Laura Monaghan have both been taken straight out of Sorthern Northland's Olympic mountain biking team and have no previous road race experience. Nkansah finished in 9th in the mountain biking event at the last summer Olympics, whilst Monaghan finished the women's event in 17th place.

Directeur sportif: Lewis Wellis, whilst by his own admission was never one of the top riders in Sorthern Northland, certainly has been around the block in a long career in Sorthern cycling and the one time 8th place finisher in the national road race championship is known to have an astute eye for the sport. The Ellismare Preliminära marks his first foray into a directeur sportif role.

Riders:

Prince Nkansah: F2, C7, D9
Laura Monaghan: F1, C8, D8
Ixidor Orzaiz: F3, C9, D5
Daveth Tripcony: F6, C6, D5

Team: Liventia Air Cycle Racing (LCR)
Directeur sportif: Jérôme Alexandre

Alexandre, who was once the national cycling team's leader, has hung up his wheels in exchange for a seat in the team car after his predecessor Max Clement handpicked him as his replacement. Alexandre's palmarès include finishing in the top 10 in both the road race and time trial at the Fourth Summer Olympics.

1. Samuel Chapman (5-7-5)
Chapman, an Ad’ihani riding for a Liventian team, will lead Team LCR in the tour. A former Tour of Ad’ihan general classification champion, Chapman also finished the best-placed Liventian or Ad’ihani at the Fifth Summer Olympics road race.

2. Adrian Kelly (7-3-7)
While not horrible at climbing, Liventia-born Kelly will tend to stick to the peloton on hills and not break away. Finished 34th in the men's road race in Outineau, 2:36 down on the gold medallist from Sibirsky. Was the best LCR performer at the Rás na Inis na Dún, the last major tour the team took part in.

3. Jimmy Gilchrist (6-5-6)
Gilchrist is the reigning Olympic time trial champion, and won a stage on the 2149 Tour of Ad’ihan. The Liventian was once LCR's team leader, but has since given up the role after a poor performance at the Rás, where he finished 63rd in the overall standings out of 94 riders.

4. Theresa McBeth (4-4-9)
The Orean, Liventia-born McBeth is the first professional female cyclist to have signed with LCR, and this will be her first time competing on a tour with men. The sprinter of the group.

(OOC: Ad’ihani team to come tomorrow, ill and need sleep.)

Name: BBC Racing Regional

Sponsored by the BBC (Bonustellus Broadcasting Corperation), BBC Racing Regional is officially open for all Bonustellus region nations but it has always been dominated by competitors from Wolfmanne. After a 1st place finish in the Air Wolfmanne Tour, the main domestic competition, they have decided to enter the Ellismare Preliminära. The mixed team is made up of Wolfmanni Olympic hopefuls, who are hoping the make the team when the tryouts comes up.

1. James Cooper (9-8-1)
2. Jonathan Alexander (2-8-7)
3. Emily Johnston (8-1-9)
4. Lauren Spencer (7-3-7)

Directeur sportif: Ruby Hawkins. Ruby Hawkins founded the Air Wolfmanne Tour (named the 'Ruby Hawkins Cup). She herself had competed for the University of Aurumtum womans cycling team. When whe left University, she became a Merchant sailor. At the age of 36, she found the Bonustellus Cycling Tour, which was later bought out by Air Wolfmanne and renamed the Air Wolfmanne Tour. One of the teams formed, BBC Racing Regional, requested her to be their Directeur sportif, which she happily accepted. Ever since she has lead them to a winning streak in the Cycling Tour.

Name: University of Aurumtum Cycling

Sponsored and operated by the University of Aurumtum, the University of Aurumtum Cycling is exclusive for students in the University of Aurumtum. Although better funded in comparison to BBC Racing Regional, it's exclusivity has lead to a combination of second, third and fourth place finishes in the Air Wolfmanne. Like BBC Racing Regional, it operates a mixed team. Their team consists of Olympic hopefuls.

1. Isabella Martin (6-6-5)
2. Leah Kennedy (7-7-4)
3. Matthew Davidson (5-6-6)
4. Bradley Haynes (4-7-7)

Directeur sportif: David Howells. David Howells is an ex BBC Regional Racing competitor. He also attended the University of Aurumtum. However during a race he collided into fellow cyclist Elliot Briggs. David has suffered permanent disability, which although didn't hamper his ability to run, walk or anything similar, he would be unable to cycle, at least at his former level. He was recently recruited by University of Aurumtum Cycling as a Director sportif.

Sorry about that, didn't know. I tagged it so I could edit it later to send in some teams.

Okay, consider this your 24hr signup warning.
24hrs after the signups close I will post the results from the first day's cycling, with days 2 and 3 coming in 24hr intervals. Maybe, if you're very, very lucky, I'll post a summary afterwards to see whether my plans for an 18 day tour of my nation (for which this is IC the preliminary to. Like Queens and Winbledon) will be worth pursuing.

Right, let's call that the cutoff for signing up then.
If anyone wants to RP, they have until about this time tomorrow, when I will be posting the first day's results.

I will also be trialing a system of working out peloton and 'same time' times, as well as a scorinated system for intermediate sprints and climbs. If it goes well, it'll be included in the larger event should it go ahead.
