"They all had the idea in mind of destroying the old order and replacing it with their own, however, with seven different leaders competing to take over the nation, they hurt themselves about a much as they hurt the old government. The revolution was successful, but most of the loyalists fled to friendly countries, mostly to Monavia. The government was not happy with the demise of one of its allies, and soon launched an all-out war against the Vendian rebels.
"Within five years, about two dozen other nations took sides in the conflict, and Vendia was left as a wasteland. The rebels surrendered, mainly because Monavia was able to pressure most of the belligerents into withdrawing from the conflict. The loyalists soon left for home after the conclusion of the war. Monavia has been in wars after that one, but they were all small in scale. Vendia has since rebuilt, and the people are actually quite grateful for the assistance on our part to win back their country for them. The government reorganized itself into a republic, however it too collapsed, because some rebels which survived the war came back to wreck the democracy.
"One of the leaders of the loyalists, and a descendent of the last monarch eventually took control long enough to stabilize the nation and hold an election. He proposed a new constitution, among other things. When he came up for reelection, another rebellion took place but it failed. He then made an offer to the citizenry to hold a popular referendum to amend a portion of the constitution, which would still allow for him to be elected, but instead he would have a permanent term.
"He ruled as a benevolent dictator, then before retiring, he held another election, this time to choose his successor. The new dictator had his term limited, by his own choice, to thirty years. It expires in 2010. After that, the nation will revert back to a republic, and the previous provisions of the constitution will be restored."
