ELEMENTARIANISM
Basilica of the Greater Science

Per Vox Altissimus

Elementarianism – the Religion of Science. Born almost 1200 years ago, Elementarianism brought the eight main Religious Sects that was based around Southern Strait of Judea into one great Faith. During this time there was several Wars being fought amongst the Strait Tribes and the Unity, as the forming of Elementarianism was called, brought a peace that lasted until the Colonisation of the South.

The core of Elementarianism was created by primitive Scientists – Alchemists, Shaman, etc – using what they knew of ‘Majyk’ to be explained by a higher power. During these days it was very similar to many pagan religions, with the Creator only being discovered as a God himself during the 14th Century. It was only during this time, the 15th-17th Century, that Elementarianism got a full work over and the loose threads of the faith were woven together in what is known today as the Basilica of the Greater Science.

The Religious Democracy of Trivval, the heartland of Elementarianism, is run similar to the Holy See, where the Government is totally intertwined with the Religion. The official state religion of the Religious Democracy is Elemenilavit, the largest faction of Elementarianism, and was the cause of the Trivvallian War for Freedom. Elemenilavit is by far most prominent in Trivval, but there are supporters spread internationally. Elemenilavit translates directly to ‘Element Worship’.

The Elementarianism faith consists of a Higher and Lower Pantheon of five Beings, each corresponding to a certain element and as such each Being has a festival in his or her honor at the changing of the quart-year, in both cases the exception being the Highest Being. There are several temples, holy sites and sub-sects devoted to individual Gods, but the Elementarianism Basilica exercises and urges Elemenilavit, where each deity is equally represented.

The Qwarue, the Holy Tome of Elementarianism, is widely circulated throughout the Judea, as well as the population of any country within a Trivvalian War Theatre.

Pantheon of Gods

Elementarianism consists of a Dual Pantheon of Five Higher Beings, three Gods and two Goddesses. The Dual Pantheon is fully recognised by all followers of the Basilica, however there are different sects devoted to each Deity.

Within the Dual Pantheon there is a strict Hierarchy which is followed by all members. The Higher Pantheon is obviously over the Lower however the Lower pantheon has power over all the Xerisl and Oirilli, both of which are a part of a third Pantheon, known as the Lesser Pantheon.

The Five Higher Beings within the Dual Pantheon are: Sco, the God of Science and the Creator of All; Erhal, Mother Earth and Goddess of Death; Artal, Father Sky, Lord of Life and Heavens; Wrtal, Goddess of Water and Healing; and her twin, Frushr, God of Fire and War.

Frushr

For months the battle raged on, those who had engaged the cloak of the War grew slow, weary, their bravery faltering. The Slaughter was heavy, both sides taking heavy attrition.

Then did Frushr, God of War and Fire, come into view, carrying upon Him a majestic sword that did glow with such intensity it blinded those that looked upon it. When He spoke, His voice was alike to Thunder, shaking the ground with such a force the enemy fell from their feet.

Then said He, "Lift up thy weapons - For you are my brethren, and must you be unwavering, sturdy and brave of heart. Thy shalt not falter in the eyes of the heathen. You who neither hesitate nor stumble shall be rewarded - Then shall you have glory... Then your deeds be remembered for eternity."

Then, from upon his Sword he did release upon his Brethren a million-million flames, encircling them. This was the Fyr – the Courage and strength to fight on. With a roar did they follow their God into battle and hence with the enemy was slaughtered.

    - Excerpt from The War Victor Chronicle

    Image
Frushr is the Elemenii God of War and Fire. He is often accredited to the source of the Mountain Warrior’s spirit. He is a God that believes in honorable combat and sport. As is to be expected, Frushr is the main patron God to many of those that serve in the Military. These people often pray to him for strength, zeal, and safety on the field of battle. However Frushr has a second side to him, brought on by the death of those close to Him – there are times when a dishonourable war can preserve the honour of many, when vengeance is necessary.

Since the Rape of Suran it has been law that the Church, nor the Religious Democracy, cannot March to the beat of the War Drum without Frushr’s Giving. The God of War must give his favour upon any armed campaign before any armed force can formally begin to mobilize, otherwise the battle itself is seen as a lost cause, whether it be dishonourable or a disadvantage to his People.

Frushr’s Festival, also known as the Al’Kakri begins on the first day of Summer, when the weather in the Trivvalian Mainland is at its maximum peak, and extends for 72 hours, the time that Frushr spent alone in the heavenly caves as a child. In honour of Frushr’s Prowess upon the battlefield it is tradition for public demonstrations of his Brethren’s Prowess and to prove themselves in Combat, usually in Sport Fighting or with non-firearms to First Blood. These sports are held to symbolize the honourable combat that the God stands for. As the days progresses various tournaments are held, and when the day comes to a close the winner of each tournament is declared “A Defender of Fire”, which is a very high honour.

Artal

As the world rang with the ringing of swords and fire did fall from the skies, Artal, God of Life and Air, heard the wailings and pleas of the weak. At what time the rumblings of conflict did not cease, came His charge, Daelw, who prostrated himself at His base.

Cast He now a fleeting look upon the war-torn lands and wasted life, with tears glinting upon His eyes did lay His calm hands upon the prostrate man. Then He gave unto to him and all His charges, "Lay down your arms. Offer protection to the weak. Give shelter to those who need it. For I am your God, and I will bless all who follow these teachings."

And as He rose from the Field He placed a hand upon the shoulder of a man, dying by a tree. Shuddering slowly, his glowing apparition rose from the body. “Come,” the God said softly, taking the man by the hand, “We Go to the Heaven.”

-Excerpt from The Lord of the Heaven

    Image
Artal is the Elemenii God of both Life and Air. Only because of His will did all life in the universe come into existence, combining the Matter of Sco with the help of his Wife, the Goddess Erhal. Artal is the God for most Families and some medical practitioners and He is often prayed to for both good health and welfare as well as new life itself. It isn't uncommon for women who are giving birth to have religious items and totems devoted to Artal in order to ensure the safe birth of their child. What is unusual, however, is that despite being a member of the Higher Pantheon, Artal does have a lower official member-base than any of the other Deities with many more followers of the Healing Path following His daughter, Wrtal.

The followers of Artal believe that life is precious and sacred and is something that should be both enjoyed and celebrated. This is reflected by the Veliido, the largest Festival in honour of Artal, which takes place on Mid-Autumn day when the winds freely blow through the trees and rustle the falling leaves. Artal’s festivals are by far the most self-indulgent of not only the God's holidays, but all celebrations in the Church’s Calendar as a whole. The festivity is all about enjoying one’s self and experiencing life to the fullest, so the consumption of exotic food and drink, widespread music and dancing, and even promiscuous sex take place freely and, in some locations within the Church’s Reach, out in the open for all to see. After all, every moment of life is fleeting and precious, and it is the one day that the Church has to unwind and celebrate that they even exist in the first place.

Erhal

And it was that a tribe of godless humans wandered the land. Where camped did they lay waste, senselessly destroying everything nearby. So the tribe set out to find another camp, when suddenly sprouted a wall of thorny branches, which blocked their exit.

Then spat the leader of the tribe, "You know the ways, whose ever majyk in this tribe shall be put to death." None comes forward.

Then, from the earth grows forth a large tree, and unfurling its branches, reveals the upper torso of a woman. "I am Erhal, the Mother Earth. Herenow I bind you to these lands. When they suffer, so shall you suffer too."

And as She said, it was done. From their limbs sprouted branches, and the blood in their veins was the sap of trees. Then all but one of the tribe converted, and became they stewards of nature, her first followers of the Nature.

Came then Mort, his people none but trees. In his misery and wretchedness, did he blasphemy. Asked he, "Where is the god to whom I may give my undying devotion? Where is the god to whom I may beg revenge against those who scorn me? For certain I will not become a tree and stand to be cut down."

Then the earth from far below rumbled, and with a terrible groan, split open. Appeared then the god, and with bony hands like twigs on a tree outstretched, welcomed the boy into her fold. She Said, "I am your god. Follow where I lead, come whence I call, and the rotted corpses of the dead will be yours to control." And swearing allegiance in life and beyond, did Mort thence become the God's first follower of Death.

-Excerpt from The Book of Mort

    Image
Erhal is the Elemenii Goddess of Nature and Death. She completes what was started by her Husband, the Lord of the Mountains. While He may bring new lives into existence it is Erhal's duty to end them. It is up to Erhal to judge the souls that are sent to him. Erhal is not seen as dark or evil, but is revered as much as the other Gods. In fact, Erhal's position as the final rendered of judgment will eventually learn the truth of the Qwarue one way or another. The world we reside in and the flora and fauna that populate it exist only because of her doing, as well. She is the provider of everything that the world has to offer - Food, water, resources, everything. She created the worlds in the universe with what materials Sco provided her, and each were given her Husband’s Blessing. Erhal is the matron deity of anyone that is truly independent and self-sufficient, but also of all those that thrive and reside in nature, such as hunters, farmers and woodsmen and those with a constant dealing with death.

The Festival of Erhal, or the Livaleeq, is held on the Friday of every Spring when the ice begins to thaw and the plants begin to sprout buds anew and lasts for three days. Her festival revolves around a celebration of the natural world and how fortunate we are to have it with much of the celebrations revolving around this day focus on a detachment from man-made amenities and constructs in favour of nature itself. Many celebrations are held outside of the cities in the wilderness. However on the last Friday of Spring her other festival is held, the Breid. During this time services are held across the Church to honour friends and family that had died since the last festival a year prior. Prayer services are held to ensure the well-being and continued happiness of departed relatives and offerings of food and trinkets are often left at the gravestones of the dead as a gift for them to take with them into the afterlife.

Wrtal

As Her brother-twin reaked death in the mountain over, Wrtal rose from the red-run creek. All around lay rotting corpses, hundreds dead – life wasted for a lost cause. Her Brother had gone mad with sorrow and the hundred-fold price lay upon the gore-washed fields in this Vendetta.

Across the field her Mother and Father got to work, moving souls and the dead. As the Lord of Heaven glanced upon her he spoke softly, “I cannot do all this work on my own, not all needs to be taken by your Mother.” And thus with a flick of the finger He transferred some of his Power to his daughter.

And knowing what needs to be done she looked down upon all her new charges and begun her work, healing the dying.

    - Excerpt from Her Life’s Work

    Image
Wrtal is the Elemenii Goddess of both Water and Healing. With the help of Her Father, the Lord of the Heaven, she became not only the caretaker of the ocean but also the Goddess of Healing. Because of her will hundreds of millions are healed and helped every day. Wrtal is the Goddess for most medical practitioners and those who live on the ocean and She is often prayed to for both good health and welfare.

The followers of Wrtal believe that life is precious and sacred, much like those who follow her Father. However, unlike the follower of her father, She believes the sustainment of life is above everything. This is reflected by the Fiido, the principal Festival in honour of Wrtal, which takes place on Mid-Winter night when ice and snow covers the land. The Fiido is not as decadent as her father’s, however it is still a great time. On the other hand, the Fiido is the shortest festival of all, only lasting eight hours but during this time as much praise is given to Wrtal as it would be during Erhal’s Six Days. In many ways the Fiido links closely to the Livaleeq in that the Fiido also celebrates anything that lives within the ocean, as the Livaleeq celebrates that which lives on the land.

Sco

Upon the dawn of all that is and all that was there was One. Energy existed in it’s eternity, in it’s ever state. This Energy was the One, the Creator, the Master Of All.

Eons hundredfold overlay to one moment, one time when everything comes together into one point - a Thousand-Million years of a God’s life comes down to one point.

Million-Million things spilt out, along with two other Energies – Erhal and Artal – once trapped, now created again by Sco.

Thus it all began with a Bang.. Accordingly it will end with one.

    - Excerpt from the Unknown Tome

    Image
Sco, the master of the Universe - The Creator of Gods and the Infinite Energy of the Worlds. Sco is the Ultimate Deity, that who created the Higher Pantheon, the Highest Beings. Sco creates all that is in the Universe, directly or indirectly, providing the Matter for others to do just that. Every member of the Basilica believes fully in Sco, however he is the patron god of Scientists and Mathematicians, and all schools have a small Temple dedicated to Sco.

For the Disciples of Sco everything is truth, and everything must be found out. If it is unknown for how it works the Disciples with work single minded just to work out what makes it tick. All of these great discoveries are shown off at His Festival, the Scyfa. Unlike the Festivals of the other Gods, who align themselves with Seasons and Elements, the Scyfa occurs on the Third Solar Eclipse of each year, no matter if it is Partial or Total. During the Scyfa some of the most extravagant fireworks demonstrations are performed and in some places those several hundred miles away can see the flashes and the booms register on Earthquake Early Warning Outposts. Scyfa begins 12 hours before the Eclipse and ends 24 hours after with the key of the celebrations being rejoicing in the creation of the universe and giving thanks to not only Sco but all the Gods.

Hierarchy

Image
The Dual Pantheon is organised in a strict manner which none can ignore, no matter if they follow Elemenilavit or just one Deity, there is a severe hierarchy regarding the gods within the Pantheons.

The Creator, Sco, the Lord of Infinite is placed at the head on the Pantheon. Sco Created everything, and in thus the other two Gods within the Higher Pantheon. Below Sco is the Husband and Wife Combination, Erhal and Artal – Mother Earth and Father Sky respectively. The Heavenly Couple then created the Lower Pantheon, the Twin Children Frushr and Wrtal, giving them Power.

For some it is foolish to think that the Twins are ‘lesser’ to those in the Higher Pantheon as Frushr and Wrtal hold significant power and sway over the populace with the ability to Kill and Heal distributed amongst both. The Basilica has left this as one of the mysteries of Elementarianism, believing that the followers should make their own decision about it – thus it has been for over a millennia, and it will likely stay that way.

Below the Dual Pantheon is the Lesser Pantheon – a massive hall of the Xerisl and Oirilli, the Children of the Highest and the Saints respectively. With a dozen of the former and almost a hundred of the latter the Lesser Pantheon could get rather confusing.

Hierarchy of the Basilica

During the discussions leading towards the Unity Pact and the eventual creation of Elementarianism one topic on the table was that of how the Basilica would be structured. After much deliberation and planning the Hierarchy of the Basilica was created, otherwise known as the ‘Lines’.

The Lines are divided into two sections known as the Illius and the Tyrao. The Tyrao consists of the Upper Echelon of Elementarianism, those whose name and position does not change no matter which Sect they derive from. The Illius, on the other hand, is interchangeable between each Sect – some having more Line than the others, and different name for each Line. While this could have gotten confusing planning during the Unity Pact ensured that each Line follows a set of rules.

The basic Lines for Elemenilavit is as follows:

Office TitlePlace of WorshipChristian Equivalent
_______Tyrao_______
The ShogulTy’laidunPope
JustaTy’laidun Cardinal
Vix LaiderVy’LaidunCardinal
DulaierD’Laidun Arch Bishop
_______Ilius_______
LaidilIl’Laidun Bishop
LaideLaidun Diocesan Bishop
SammokSaiestiPriest
Utral Xiseieny Monk

Of course, as stated above, not all Sects have the same number of Lines as the Elemenilavit. For example the Apostles of Erhal have sixteen Lines, many of them being different levels of ‘Wandering Monk’ and other small things. To the other extreme, Wrtal’s Disciples have only one Illius Line, the Iliide, their version of a Sammok and a Laide combined.

The Shogul is the ultimate leader of the Basilica, but not only that the Shogul is also the Head of the Trivvalian Government. It has, in the past, thought that this could be a problem, however because of the fact of the intertwined Religion-Government the only way for someone to reach the Line of Shogul is to be the head of the Political Party elected by the People of Trivval into Government. Because of this all Shoguls are previously a Justa, or someone elected into Government – the Elector House or the Senate. Due to this fact, as of yet, there has never been a person to be promoted to the Line of Justa without being a Trivvalian Citizen and joining the sway of Trivvalian Politics.

This may seem extremely harsh, however any Elemeni who is promoted to the Tyrao is given the option of getting a Dual Citizenship with the Religious Democracy and whatever nationality they are currently.

In any area where there is a Elementarian presence the territory is divided into individual Saies. The Vix Laider is the head of Elementarianism in that Nation, however if there is not a significant presence in that Nation the Vylae (the Vix Laider’s territory) can extend over several areas nearby. From that, the territory is divided into Lai’s, usually following Local State (or similar) governmental borders run by a Dulaier. Below the Dulaier everything is run according to which ever Sect they belong to but always ending in the smaller Saies (‘parish’).

Sects of Elementarianism

Elemenilavit
The all-inclusive, “pure” rendition of devotion, Elemenilavit is the unmodified and direct scripture as given Originally. All Gods and Goddesses are featured both notably and in equal, with the various fables and morals within Qwarue being focused upon.

Frushr’s Brethren
The direct worshipers and followers of the God of War. Many of the Disciples are enlisted men and women within any Military or Security Service. Many of the Tyrao are senior members of the THADF.

Artal’s Students
The direct worshipers and followers of the God of Life. Artal's followers believe that life should be lived to the fullest, and as such they're usually very free-spirited and un-modest, however they have a great devotion to the Educational Arts.

Partisans of Erhal
The direct worshipers and followers of the Goddess of Death. They place themselves in many facets of society where they can give peace to the fallen and help assist their deity of choice is shepherding their souls to the afterlife. However the Partisans also have a great reverence for the natural world and do whatever they can to preserve it.

The Disciples of Wrtal
The direct worshipers of the Goddess of Healing. Many of Trivval’s most prominent medical practitioners are confirmed to be a Disciple of Wrtal.

The Order
The direct worshipers of the God of Science. Many of Sco’s most prominent supporters are Famous Scientists and inventors, with many entrepreneurs also following the teachings of the Order.

The Book
With many enemies, the Basilica needed their own Private Military to protect the outposts of the Faith. The Book contains not only the Guard but also the Carcer Legio and the Immortal, the Templers. The Book, as of date, is almost Four Million Strong.

Lesser Pantheon

The Lesser Pantheon consists of the Xerisl and Oirilli, the Children of God and the ‘Saints’. Xerisl are treated as the most Holy on Earth during the time they live and are revered for hundreds of years after. The Xerisl are born and have the power of their Father or Mother. There has not been a Xerisl for 150 years, and the majority of Xerisl were around between 800CE and 1700CE leading to speculation that many of the Xerisl were false. These rumours are often quickly withdrawn and no reason why is given, those who do not withdraw the story dissapear.

The Oirilli are the ‘Saints’ of Elementarianism, those who were gifted by the Gods but not the Child of a God. The Oirilli are given a special position within the Basilica and are considered so be amongst the Holiest of those alive, only below the Shogul.
