Nethertopians seem to make rather good football management types. Oh don’t look at me like that. Take a look at the last World Cup finals, there were three nations there with Nethie bosses. Three. Well, two technically, but we came so close it kinda counts. Yes? It’s sort of beside the point anyway as that’s the international game while this, this is much worse. That’s right folks, that testimony to mediocrity that is the SuperLiga has completed another season and it’s a Nethertope who’s sat right at the top.

Otto van Belhamel is the man who has finally ended El Nacional’s drought in the league as the Gozan giants claimed their first SuperLiga (all their previous titles had come in the old Primera Liga don'tcha know) crown. They took the title in the penultimate round of matches with a win in Torreón, eventually finishing six points clear of reigning champions Sporting San Marquez. Meaning van Belhamel has managed title winning sides in two different nations after leading SVV Stoedt to the championship in his homeland.

Down in San Marquez the fans could feel a little hard done by as their side scored more and conceded less than El Nacional but still contrived to fall short. A 4 – 1 rout, inspired by hattrick hero Marcinho, of the Gozans at the Estadio Silva was an early highlight as the reigning champs started strong but a 3 – 0 reverse at the Independiente on matchday 33 showed the balance had firmly shifted in favour of El Nacional.

Porto Alegro Azul continue to improve under young coach Agustín Durán and will grace the Globe Cup but there’s still plenty for Ciudad Soluca coach Hane Davies to contemplate at the ediraf as his side once again failed to adequately juggle domestic and global games. Deportivo Cordova fall just short again while Moruga S.C. and Juventudé both punched well above their weight.

There was disappointment all round in Maturín as Dínamo, tipped to challenge at the top, fell into mid-table obscurity while Sportivo finished rock bottom and make a swift return to the Segunda. Talking of disappointment, Deportivo Soluca. They were second last season. Nuff said.

Joining the top flight next term will be, well, the same three clubs that exited it last time. Yep, Rubio Bayamo, Alianza Jucaro and Atlético Ensenada all make instant returns. How very dull.

Copa Sargossa

Once again the big boys failed to make any real impact in Northern Rushmore’s premiere cup competition. El Nacional lost home and away in Round 5 to Deportivo Soluca who in turn were dumped out in the Quarters by Defensor. Sporting San Marquez provided the shock of the tournament, going out in Round 4, 4 – 2 on aggregate to third tier Barahona. Relegated Machala Del Norte did for Ciudad in Round 5 while Porto Alegro Azul, beaten finalists the previous two seasons, fell to Deportivo Cordova in the Quarter Final.

All of which left Defensor and Estrella Torreón squaring up against each other in the final played in Maturín’s Ciudad Deportiva. And it looked like the Army Men would take the trophy following the 13th minute dismissal of Estrella midfielder Daniel González Fernández but they found Poconese international goalkeeper Petr Ollic in scintillating form. He kept out everything Defensor could throw at him, taking the game to extra time in which the ten men snatched it with a headed winner from centreback Marcelo Ruiz.

The Global Cups

Ok let’s get it over with. The TakilQuip Champion’s Cup came and went fairly quickly. Deportivo Soluca managed a penalty shootout win over Taeshani opposition in the Second Preliminary Round but they and Sporting San Marquez exited one round later, to Ratos Island (Nethertopia) and Ousevale Borough (Krytenia) respectively.

The Globe Cup normally makes slightly better viewing and Mercadel S.C. celebrated their debut in the competition by beating Unreatiante in the Selective Stage. They fell to some Taeshanis a round later in the Preliminary Stage but El Nacional enjoyed a cracking win over Dancougar’s Shuukyuu Kishin. Eliminatory Round my dear Watson next and success for Ciudad Soluca as the capitol side knocked over Tolley United from . . . well we're not entirely sure. El National weren’t so lucky and were clinically dispatched by those stressed out Surgeons. Deportivo Soluca avenged their TQCC exit to Nethertopian opposition with a GC Qualifying Stage victory over FC DePardenti, to advance to the group stages for the first time. City rivals Ciudad were beaten narrowly in a tough tie with Valanoran side SC Rinaldi. Sporting fared little better against Dunboor FC of Cafundéu and they too fell short of the groups.

In Globe Cup Group E Deportivo put up a good fight, eventually finishing third behind San Solari FC of Commerce Heights and Dancougar’s Yuki City Athletic. Home and away victories over fourth place Coraigh (Sorthern Northland) were the highlights. The effect these exertions had on their league form was definitely the lowlight.

NEWMANISTAN PREMIER LEAGUE

There have not been many changes within the NPL between last year and this year. For whatever reason, NPL teams seemed to have little interest in acquiring foreign players. “It’s a case of us all realizing that we’ve been aggressive with the foreign influx for several years, and that maybe we should take a step back, and focus on developing true Newmanistanian players.” said Nate Stratton, coach of the Springfield Thoroughbreds. Pittstown and Seminole Bay let go of some depth players for considerably above average transfer fees, and just when that was looking like the only news of worth to happen, a last minute transfer of Shawn O’Connell from the Tundra Falls Mariners to Caires City, yes that Caires City, of Candelaria And Marquez. “I told the Caires City people that there were very few teams I would ever consider allowing to purchase O’Connell. Caires City was one of them. They have a great international presence, and Shawn is honored to go there.”

The title is seen as being very much up for grabs. Brett Carlson has retired, so Springfield might not score as much. Tundra Falls, even with O’Connell, and Southport are a year older now and might not be labeled as “too young” anymore. Olympia’s been knocking on the door for several years now and Putnam Lake is coming off a major Cinderella season. Defending champion Loudon and perennial contenders Pocono City and Centralia will have solid teams and Dover City, South & North Charlotte, and Brighton loom as spoilers. That alone makes it look like a fantastic season is in the works, and maybe there is a sleeper we will find out about soon enough. Of the three teams promoted to the NPL this year (Nashua, Eastport, and Hastings), it is worth noting that Eastport has become the first team to originate in our D League to climb all the way to the top. It’s been a long time in the making, but this kind of achievement is rare anywhere, and they certainly deserve much credit for it. Now at the top level, we’ll see how they do as well.

The late transfer of Shawn O’Connell proves to not have any ill effects on the season of the Mariners who win their first NPL Championship in quite some time, and the first title in the city since the league went to the premiership format. They did it with defense and strong goalkeeping as their 32 goals allowed were amongst the leaders in that category. But quietly, they also scored 63 goals, the second most in the NPL, thanks to a very balanced attack. The Mariners strong midfield gets the most credit for this. The second place Centralia Cougars have one game they will really regret, a matchday 41 defeat, 2-1 at home to Rushville. By the same token, this upset victory by the Monarchs kept them from being relegated. As you can see from the above table, the league was very competitive, with seventeen points separating first and 11th place South Charlotte. Things were especially tight for those Globe Cup spots.

The starting XI of the Mariners is as follows: Natalie Jensen (Starblaydia); John Bartock, Kiersten Reschke (Cassadaigua), Tori Pleiman (Cassadaigua), Chris Brayman; Andrew Draper, Nikolai Dolohov (Myedvedeya), Reginald Gillispie (Qazox); Chris Rowan, Eddie Holt, Corey Cutler.

For the SBCC and NPL promtion, I held a 24-team tournament to determine who would get the four spots. The results were:

1st round bye: Thumbria Bay, Portsmouth, Fairfield City, Centralia Town, Bradford Town, Dover Town, Manchester, Concord City.

1st Round:
Pocono Lake 4-1 Montgomery
West Loudon 1-2 Cloverfield (1-1 FT, 1-2 AET)

Strausser 2-0 Rockland
Steel City 2-1 Johnsonville (1-1 FT, 1-1 AET, Steel City wins 2-0 on PK)

2nd Round:
Thumbria Bay 1-2 Steel City
Concord City 1-3 Pocono Lake
Centralia Town 1-0 Harrison
Bradford Town 2-1 Silver Lake (1-1 FT, 2-1 AET)
Fairfield City 5-2 Pocono Village

The same introduction as ever: the most international league of the world, mother of modern domestic football, returns to activity, and the teams are ready to fight for trophies again. This time, the Cafundelense teams get reinforced once again, to dispute in the national and international competitions.

The line-ups of the 20 best teams of the country(First Division Teams) will probably be the following (foreigners in italics, best 3 players in bold) – (Experts’ Ratings details - the three journalists give the team a rating, from 1 to 5 stars [* - practically relegated; ** - intermediate team, battling against relegation; *** - intermediate team, battling for a top 8 place; **** - top 8 team, battling for a phase title; ***** - battling for the main title]). Finally the writers have decided to look at the uncountable number of mistakes which happened in many of previous editions, and now we hope that there aren’t any more name repetitions or wrong info:

PETARDOS S/A: Taniquentar; Schmidt, Alfonso and Amandíl; Marcus Vinícius, Renildo, Morini and Hawk; Razov, Alves and Night.
Coach: Waldenyr Caldas.
President: Augusto Brown.
Team Full Name: Petardos Sociedade Anônima de Futebol.
Team Style: Offensive, uses the centre, passing style.
Strongest Point: explosive attack and midfield, even the bench players are very good.
Weakest Point: team balanced in all areas.
Nickname: Bilionários (Billionaires).
Stadium Used: Obelisco Monumental, in Lasft (cap. 300,000).
State: Lasft.
Team Sponsor: Globo Multimedia.
Home Kit: blue shirt and white shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt with blue narrow stripes and blue shorts.
Other facts: the national title didn’t came again last season, and the team once again failed to do well in international competitions. So, now Petardos S/A’s directors have decided to build a super-team in order to fight for titles, and are in advantage comparing to other Cafundelense teams. The supporters are unsatisfied right now, and this led to Argentier leaving the team. At least one title is necessary to calm them down.
Transfer Market: players left, like Kardec and Mills, but this is nothing compared to the players who arrived: the one considered by many the best goalkeeper in the world, Taniquentar, together with the Starblaydia Alfonso too. Schmidt comes from Porto Lacruz, Morini from Sorthern Northland, and Welton arrives to be a luxury substitute, from Metropolitano.
Fans’ Favourites: with no doubt the fans’ favourite is the midfielder Laborious Hawk, the eternal #10 of Petardos S/A. But players like Renildo and Kiso Night have already conquered the heart of the fans too, due to their efficient and brilliant service for the Billionaires so far.
Good Bench Players: Welton (attacker), Mané (midfielder), Nenê (defender), Pak Yongho (midfielder), Ricardinho (midfielder).
The Fans Expect: international success – the League title.
Fans’ style: fanatic (big number) – usually seen as being part of high-class; considered mercenaries who would do anything for money.
Club Tradition: very traditional – worldwide success and fame.
Experts’ ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (*****), Jorge Lang (*****), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (*****).

CAFUNDÓ DO JUTA: Fernández Montes; Lühmann, Radicci, Davies and Hocn; Vervánt, Montego, Dante and Kortsarian; Jeong Jihun and Rafael Nunes.
Coach: Eduardo Bosschaart.
President: Tarcísio Castro Sahid.
Team Full Name: Esporte Clube Cafundó do Juta.
Team Style: offensive, passes a lot, but mixes short and long passes.
Strongest Point: the attack.
Weakest Point: no solid defensive midfield.
Nickname: Esquadrão de Prata (Silver Squadron).
Stadium Used: Praça Maior, in Cafundó do Juta (cap. 180,000).
State: Juta.
Team Sponsor: Canabrava Cachaça.
Home Kit: grey (silver) shirt with white vertical stripes and grey shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt and grey shorts.
Other facts: the team that has the most number of supporters in the country. In the last season, the team finally has returned to win the national title, and also did well in the international competitions. So, the mission of Cafundó do Juta right now is to keep the good form, and continue the success of the previous season.
Transfer Market: the team seems to work to become a new Petardos, with a bench full of stars. With both its full-backs retiring, the team worked fast to bring replacements: Simon Lühmann and Cafundelense NT player Radicci. Davies comes to complete the defence, after João Carlos decided to leave for Porto Lacruz.
Fans’ Favourites: the defender Hizzen Hocn is the fans’ favourite with a good margin over his opponent, mostly due to his many years of service with the silver shirt. Kortsarian and Jeong Jihun are slowly winning their space too.
Good Bench Players: Raulzito (midfielder), Hélio (goalkeeper), Doramílton (midfielder), Gordon (attacker) and Lapela (defender).
The Fans Expect: the League title.
Fans’ style: extremely fanatic (huge number) – team is seen as the “people’s team”, due for it having people from all classes and even different regions!
Club Tradition: one of the football pioneers in the country – highly successful.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (*****), Jorge Lang (*****), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (*****).

RANCA TOCO: Salathiël; Kim Yongji, Datena and Tonhão; Underdark, Boimoks, Morose, Kléber and Paquetá; Andrews and Hubert.
Coach: Christophe Argentier.
President: Maníaco do Parque.
Team Full Name: Associação Atlética Ranca Toco de Carandirú.
Team Style: Extremely defensive, focuses on counterattacks and long shots.
Strongest Point: strong midfield.
Weakest Point: no natural wingers.
Nickname: Sarrafeiros.
Stadium Used: Presídio, in Carandirú City (cap. 75,000).
State: Central.
Team Sponsor: Alerta Alarm Systems.
Home Kit: purple shirt with yellow vertical stripes and purple shorts.
Away Kit: yellow shirt and purple shorts.
Other Facts: team famous for its violence, which is incentivized by the directors of the club. Gives high value to pride and home games. Its supporters are very violent too, as most of them are prisoners in the prison city. The team maintained its best players, with few adjustments. It is expected that the arrival of Christophe Argentier can send the team back to the top.
Transfer Market: Higgins didn’t fit well into the team and ended leaving. Arriving, is the attacker Andrews, who will have a mission to feed Hubert in the attack. Also Morose from Valanora, who is going to compose one of the best midfields of the league, together with two Cafundelense NT players, the Vephrese Boimoks and the Vanorian Underdark. Manuso leaves due to high concorrence inside the team.
Fans’ Favourites: the attacker Hubert is curiously the idol of a team which supporters love a physical, rough and defensive game. Behind him, there is Underdark, who showed his love for the team by dying his hair purple. Salathiël rose to the position of third idol.
Good Bench Players: Haesumé (defender), Curupira (goalkeeper), Davino (midfielder), Júrangil (midfielder), Penado (attacker).
The Fans Expect: international success – the League title.
Fans’ style: extremely fanatic and highly violent (huge number) – are seen as violent people, vandals and “terrorists” (an accurate view). Sometimes people tend to associate Ranca Toco with the lower classes too. Also, the team is the favourite inside Cafundéu’s prisons.
Club Tradition: very traditional – worldwide famous and successful
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (*****), Jorge Lang (*****), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (*****).

A.F.F.: Zecão; Leonardo, Batoré, Tingacens and Higgins; Hawker, Mijak, Amey and Serrano; Lynch and Kuniyoshi.
Coach: Benjamin Oliveira.
President: Sir Petrônio Barbugli.
Team Full Name: Abbade Futebol Familiar Clube.
Team Style: Offensive, uses the wings, long passes style.
Strongest Point: midfield, especially with Silveira and Serrano.
Weakest Point: a balanced team.
Nickname: Os Monges (The Monks).
Stadium Used: Arena América, in Abadia (cap. 120,000).
State: Old Cities.
Team Sponsor: Banespa Investments.
Home Kit: red shirt with black hoops and black shorts.
Away Kit: black shirt and black shorts.
Other facts: this team is controlled by a powerful family, and has a lot of money. Finally they decided to use this wealth, and bought many players. After winning the title, the team failed to repeat success and seems to be the weakest of the teams known as the top four clubs. This situation must be reversed, according to the team’s directors.
Transfer Market: retirements of Silveira and Enrique deeply hurt the team, which looked for reinforcements only in these two positions.
Fans’ Favourite: from those who started their careers in A.F.F., only Leonardo remains with huge fame. Serrano has popularity, but some supporters believe he is too much a “superstar”. Matt Lynch comes as third.
Good Bench Players: Srion (defender), Mano Firmeza (midfielder), Eiras (full-back), Oberdan (midfielder), Hércules (attacker).
The Fans Expect: qualification for the TQCC.
Fans’ style: passionate but calm (good number) – majority of fans are adults or old people, and because of that other teams’ supporters generalize A.F.F. as being the “retirement club team”.
Club Tradition: one of the football pioneers in the country – enjoyed a lot of success.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (****), Jorge Lang (****), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (****).

DUNBOOR FC: Hodgson; Labbé, Papadiamántis, Marshall and Minanad; Jules, Miguel Silva, Schiermeier and Kries; Adams and Fiero.
Coach: Javier Sanchez.
President: Isidoro de Paula Farías.
Team Full Name: Dunboor Futebol Clube.
Team Style: slightly defensive, uses the centre, passing style.
Strongest Point: very good midfield.
Weakest Point: central defence.
Nickname: Leões do Norte (Northern Lions).
Stadium Used: Maracatuzão, in Dunboor (cap. 135,000).
State: Dunboor.
Team Sponsor: Banco Econômico.
Home Kit: dark blue shirt with dark blue shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt with white shorts.
Other facts: team that likes to use foreigners, takes advantage of the cold climate of the city in its home games. Dunboor keeps among the top, although not in the TQCC. The team is constantly posing as a threat to the top four teams, but seems to be losing terrain to Atlético Jutense and Porto Lacruz. So, the team’s mission is to regain the condition of fifth force of Cafundelense football.
Transfer Market: this was a weak transfer window in general, but Dunboor managed to do some transfers. Minanad came to the defence, although with some suspicions over his quality. In the midfield, Schiermeier came from Dancougar. Leaving is the attacker Matoso, whose style didn’t fit with Sanchez’s.
Fans’ Favourites: the team currently has only one big idol: Charles Jules. Others just try to repeat his success. Last season Adams and Miguel Silva started to appear as fans favourites, but are still far from Jules.
Good Bench Players: Plínio (full-back), Índio (midfielder), Didi (defender), Oreme (midfielder), João Paulo (attacker).
The Fans Expect: qualification for the TQCC.
Fans’ style: festive (good number) – they are one of the most festive and motivating supporter groups of the country, but their mood can change suddenly from good to bad.
Club Tradition: just slightly traditional – enjoyed a lot of success.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (****), Jorge Lang (***), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (***).

CLUBE IMPERIAL: Nakama; Samman, Manuso and Samba; Diego, Vanderhak, Jacobs, Schneider and André Diniz; Spooner and Robinson.
Coach: Edgar Gastão.
President: Prince Hector Van Tocco.
Team Full Name: Real Clube Imperial.
Team Style: Extremely offensive, uses the centre and with a fast passes style.
Strongest Point: the defence in general.
Weakest Point: good offensive midfield.
Nickname: Time Real (Royal Team).
Stadium Used: Estádio Rei Albieri Van Tocco, in Cafundó do Juta (cap. 210,001).
State: Juta.
Team Sponsor: Velog Automóveis.
Home Kit: dark blue with green vertical stripes and green shorts.
Away Kit: light green shirt with dark blue shorts.
Other Facts: unable to keep the main players and fight for the TQCC, the team continues to fail in the league and miss the international competitions. Another time, the team changed many players and the coach too, bringing the young but successful Edgar Gastão. Clube Imperial seems to be far away from the times when it successful in both national and international stages.
Transfer Market: the midfield practically entirely left, with Pedrinho and Zubo leaving. To fill the holes, the team bought Robin Jacobs and Schneider from Atlético Insular, Diego from Khalmar-Tijhus and the defender Manuso from Ranca Toco. From abroad, midfielder Tor Vanderhak comes from Yafor 2 and the goalkeeper Kensaku Nakama looks forward to fill the hole opened by Yuji Watanabe’s retirement.
Fans’ Favourites: due to the many changes in the team, only André Diniz enjoys big popularity in this team.
Good Bench Players: Vincze (goalkeeper), Zorba (attacker), Vítor Martins (defender), Campineiro (attacker) and Oberdan (midfielder).
The Fans Expect: qualification for international competitions.
Fans’ style: emphatic (average number) – mostly composed by nobles and people related to the Royal Family.
Club Tradition: not very old, with just recent tradition conquered by titles – highly successful.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (***), Jorge Lang (***), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (***).

ATLÉTICO JUTENSE: Garrido; Davis, Maximus and Yi Beomsuk; Gagnon, Rubiano, Vavasour and Adamílson; Splebist, Jean Carlo and Fresco.
Coach: Ensio Varg.
President: Maciel Arango, Baron of Tijhus.
Team Full Name: Clube Atlético Jutense.
Team Style: Very balanced, uses more the centre, passing style.
Strongest Point: the attack.
Weakest Point: wingers, both in defence and midfield.
Nickname: Galo.
Stadium Used: Cerradão, in Cafundó do Juta (cap. 60,000).
State: Juta.
Team Sponsor: Canfudea Canned Food.
Home Kit: yellow shirt and red shorts.
Away Kit: red shirt and red shorts.
Other Facts: once again, Atlético Jutense did a marvellous season, and is set to become one of Cafundéu’s top teams. Runner-up in both the Cafundelense league and the TQCC, the team surprisingly decided to make signings involving players Born in Cafundéu, and seems to rely in the national talent in order to keep the good performances. In the end, it really seems they have the most talented Cafundelenses nowadays.
Transfer Market: Nando and Édson Lobo leave as part of the plan to bring younger players for their positions. To the attack, no one arrives, due to Jean Carlo being a good option who was in the bench. For the midfield, Gagnon arrives, together with young star Adamílson.
Fans’ Favourites: with the retirement of both Gerrin Sidan and the legend and son of a legend Zé Sho, Yi Beomsuk is now the only player with a close relationship with the fans, being the team leader.
Good Bench Players: Gregory (defender), Sussex (midfielder), Marco Aurélio (midfielder), Bruno Pinto (defender), Wallase (midfielder).
The Fans Expect: qualification for the TQCC.
Fans’ style: passionate (big number) – seen as peaceful supporters, who enjoy good rivalries.
Club Tradition: very traditional – successful at domestic stage.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (****), Jorge Lang (****), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (****).

AMÉRICA: Murilo; Bourassa, Figueroa, Bernardo and Orton; Salivani, Cook, Marino, González and Zubo; Kennedy.
Coach: Renário.
President: Cidão Varteiro.
Team Full Name: América Esporte Clube Lasftense.
Team Style: bit offensive, turns defensive when playing away.
Strongest Point: the offensive midfield.
Weakest Point: a balanced team, although not world class.
Nickname: Diabos de Lasft (Lasft Devils).
Stadium Used: Estádio Marte, in Lasft (cap. 40,000).
State: Lasft.
Team Sponsor: Editora 25 de Maio.
Home Kit: red shirt and white shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt and red shorts.
Other Facts: founded by fanatic football supporters, it grew fast and now is the third biggest team of Lasft. América lately has been facing ups and downs in the Cafundelense league, and for this season invested hard to improve. It is believed that the coach Renário can work towards making this team better, even after his bad experience commanding the Monopolists team.
Transfer Market: not many players leaving, apart from Túlio, so the ones arriving, more than improving the starting XI, add more depth to the team. In the midfield, Nikali Zubo and Orson Cook, and Figueroa for the defence, although he’ll be forced to play in many other positions due to the lack of wingers, full-back and defensive midfielders.
Fans’ Favourites: currently the biggest idol of the team is the young goalkeeper Murilo, considered to “finally be the goalkeeper Cafundéu deserves”.
Good Bench Players: Bruno (defender), Zatte (midfielder), Vorotaev (attacker), Cockbadger (midfielder), Gnomo (attacker).
The Fans Expect: qualification for international competitions.
Fans’ style: fanatic (average number) – love to make jokes about their rivals, and to provoke and be provoked. Can cause some confusions, involving even violence, with opponents.
Club Tradition: weak tradition – consolidated 1st Division team.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (***), Jorge Lang (***), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (***).

CENTRAL UNITED: Subodnir; Igor, Tiago, Millsand Terra; Nakombi, Prescott, Wilson and Arsenault; Ainsley and Anti Ilmari.
Coach: Júlio Mercegues.
President: Renan Pedrosa.
Team Full Name: União de Futebol do Estado Central.
Team Style: offensive one, using the centre of the field and long ranged shots.
Strongest Point: the midfield.
Weakest Point: the defence.
Nickname: Alvinegro.
Stadium Used: Toca do Tatu “Bola”, in Cidade Central (cap. 118,000).
State: Central.
Team Sponsor: Tio João - food in general.
Home Kit: white shirt and black shorts.
Away Kit: black shirt with white stripes and black shorts.
Other Facts: after returning to the first division some seasons ago, this team is trying to recover itself. Central United is a traditional team which got used to win titles, and had to get used to just stay in intermediate positions. Slowly, the team is returning to get to the top positions, but there is still a lot of work to be done. It currently faces an up-and-down situation.
Transfer Market: many changes in the Cidade Central team. Two full-backs arrive, Igor and Tiago, from relegated teams. Also from Khalmar-Tijhus comes Particle, who’ll face a lot of dispute in his position. Anti Ilmari comes to be the second attacker of the team, while Prescott arrives from Newmanistan to relieve the pressure over team star Fugiro Nakombi.
Fans’ Favourites: Fugiro Nakombi is the team idol, one which the players identify themselves with, with little space for the other teams to be considered as real idols.
Good Bench Players: Dzeko (midfielder), Luisinho (midfielder), Rilin (full-back), Particle (midfielder), Renatinho (attacker).
The Fans Expect: top 8 position.
Fans’ style: passionate (good number) – usually have inventive songs to motivate the team and joke with their opponents. Other teams’ supporters usually associate them with clowns, children or gay people.
Club Tradition: one of the football pioneers in the country – successful at domestic stage.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (***), Jorge Lang (***), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (**).

PORTO LACRUZ: Taylor; Juliano, Kaufman, João Carlos and Rodrigues; Capstraw, An Pilrip, Colwyn and Florentino; Gutiérrez and Oscar.
Coach: Júlio Vargas.
President: Compadre Washington Axé.
Team Full Name: Sociedade Esportiva Porto Lacruz.
Team Style: very balanced, likes to make many passes without haste.
Strongest Point: midfield.
Weakest Point: attack.
Nickname: Praianos.
Stadium Used: Estádio Nacional dos Cocos, in Porto Lacruz (cap. 72,500).
State: Espinal.
Team Sponsor: CMG Medicines.
Home Kit: orange shirt and white shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt and orange shorts.
Other Facts: Porto Lacruz is growing, and fast. The team has money, although no one knows exactly from where this money comes from. The midfield of this team is among the best, and in general this team can really become a top eight of the Cafundelense league, if it is not already one of them. Aims to become a power of Cafundelense football, and seems to be in the right path.
Transfer Market: this time Porto Lacruz wasn’t able to avoid losing players like it could lately. Melchior left to Dancougar, while NT defender Schmidt reinforces Petardos S/A’s super-team. On the other way, João Carlos comes to Porto Lacruz’s defence, while young star Gutiérrez, who can play as offensive midfielder or attacker, will be the immediate substitute of Melchior.
Fans’ Favourites: the biggest idols are Colwyn and An Pilrip. Both are leaders of the team, with Colwyn being an excellent passer and An Pilrip using his extremely good vision and positioning to help Porto Lacruz. Lately, Florentino and Rodriguez entered in this list.
Good Bench Players: Talnae (midfielder), Pinoc (midfielder), Roubanis (defender), Januário (midfielder), Rildo (attacker).
The Fans Expect: a spot in international competitions.

Club Tradition: just slightly traditional – reaching 1st Division stability.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (****), Jorge Lang (****), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (***).

SERRANO: Vachon; Guilherme, Célio Santos and Korkmaz; Lewton, Hawthorne, Freeman, Krestenitis and Sporadic; McAllister and Nando.
Coach: Eneus Richardson.
President: Victor Correia Aquino.
Team Full Name: Serrano Futebol Clube.
Team Style: defensive, explores the wings.
Strongest Point: the goalkeeper Vachon.
Weakest Point: central defence.
Nickname: Alpinistas (Climbers).
Stadium Used: Cume da Montanha, in Serra Cabral (cap. 30,000).
State: Central.
Team Sponsor: Guaraná Muquirana.
Home Kit: brown shirt with details in yellow and white shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt and brown shorts.
Other Facts: Serrano has an average team, and now escaping relegation isn’t the objective of the team, as it clearly has capacity for more, for example reaching the top eight. The team brought more players this season, so at least an intermediate position is expected for Serrano.
Transfer Market: some players, unsatisfied with being on the bench, left. The ones who came were Kelly Sporadic from Atlético Insular, Reyes from Sargossa and the young Ryan McAllister from Newmanistan. But no one can replace Radicci, who left for Cafundó do Juta.
Fans’ Favourites: no one really has this status in this team, and the most loved one is currently midfielder Nico Lewton.
Good Bench Players: Cromsumé (attacker), Ayrton (defender), Deschamps (attacker), Reyes (midfielder), Diguinho (goalkeeper).
The Fans Expect: intermediate position.
Fans’ style: fanatic (small number) – really crazy for their team, the Serrano supporters are completely unpredictable, so unpredictable we don’t know what to write here about them.
Club Tradition: weak tradition – newcomer to 1st Division environment.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (***), Jorge Lang (**), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (**).

SC LASFT: Moore; Mesquita, Ueda and H.Mohammed; Abreu, Bert, Cole, Culnámo and Da Costa; Misina and Matoso.
Coach: Neto.
President: Alcides Mattos.
Team Full Name: Sport Club Lasft.
Team Style: balanced, likes to control the game’s pace.
Strongest Point: good midfield.
Weakest Point: young attack.
Nickname: Golden Team.
Stadium Used: Estádio Padre Anchieta, in Lasft (cap. 70,000).
State: Lasft.
Team Sponsor: Afiada Shaving Razors.
Home Kit: black shirt with details in gold and black shorts.
Away Kit: golden shirt and black shorts.
Other Facts: although the team now seems solid in the First Division, it is far from repeating the good performances of the past, when it was among the best teams of the entire league. Now, the team brought the former NT player Neto as a coach, and some new players to attempt to improve and return to the old times. The team has some good players, but some very poor ones too.
Transfer Market: the attack is completely new with the arrivals of Matoso and Misina, while the midfield has the entrance of talented player Da Costa and the experienced defensive midfielder Abreu.
Fans’ Favourites: their current favourite is the Bazalonian midfielder Cole, who has huge experience.
Good Bench Players: Salvador (defender), Ruiz (attacker), Rudnei (attacker), Marinho (goalkeeper), Lithsumé (midfielder).
The Fans Expect: intermediate position.
Fans’ style: passionate (big number) – usually associated with poorest people of the region, due to the rivalry with Petardos S/A.
Club Tradition: one of the football pioneers of the country – successful at domestic stage.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (**), Jorge Lang (**), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (***).

INTERNACIONAL DE PENDERIA: Felipe; Young, Gut and Zacarias; Pingo, Bond, Carney and Kabir; Labrie, Farías and Adraktas.
Coach: Ciro Legrettini.
President: Renato Saulo Meirelles, Count of Penderia.
Team Full Name: Sport Club Internacional de Penderia.
Team Style: offensive, uses long ranged passes.
Strongest Point: defence.
Weakest Point: the midfield in general.
Nickname: os Cavaleiros (the Knights).
Stadium Used: Campo do Forte Meirelles, Penderia (cap. 50,000).
State: Old Cities.
Team Sponsor: Imperial Lottery.
Home Kit: red shirt with white stripes and red shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt and white shorts.
Other Facts: this one is a traditional team, in fact, but got lost in time. Now, suddenly, it was revived by loyal supporters and could reach the first division. After a good last season, the team spent a lot of money to attempt to at least repeat the performance, and now has a well-built team.
Transfer Market: Internacional managed to keep Felipe, which is already a conquest. But some players were signed. For the attack, the Sargossa star Ernesto Farías. For the midfield, Todd Carney and Simon Bond.
Fans’ Favourite: due to the team being a newcomer to top league football, the supporters like the players who helped them to reach this stage. This case, their favourite player is the goalkeeper Felipe.
Good Bench Players: Fernandinho (midfielder), Rocha (defender), Diors (midfielder), Oim (goalkeeper), Vainarell (full-back).
The Fans Expect: intermediate position.
Fans’ style: extremely fanatic, slightly violent (average number) – the revival of the team revived the violent percentage of the Internacional fan base, which now dominates the team’s fan groups.
Club Tradition: very traditional – newcomer to 1st Division environment.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (**), Jorge Lang (**), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (**).

METROPOLITANO: Kardec; Rabicó, Escória, Lurich and Freudigmann; Guga, Romeu, Stigur and Bogota; Celebrindal and Sinclair.
Coach: Alfonso Di Angelo.
President: Everaldo Fobrett.
Team Full Name: Clube Esportivo Metropolitano.
Team Style: offensive, uses the wings.
Strongest Point: the defensive midfield.
Weakest Point: offensive midfield.
Nickname: Urbanos.
Stadium Used: Arena Multiuso Dra. Veiga, in Astari (cap. 100,000).
State: Titã.
Team Sponsor: Casas Astari (electronics).
Home Kit: dark purple shirt with silver details, silver shorts.
Away Kit: gold shirt with purple hoops, gold shorts.
Other Facts: Metropolitano returned to the First Division just one season after getting relegated, and with an international title. Okay, it was a SBCC, but at least it is a title. Now back to the reality of losing games, Metropolitano will have to work hard to stay in the first division, even more afrer Da Costa and Welton left the team.
Transfer Market: Metropolitano lost its two most promising players, so this transfer window was awful for them. But at least they received a lot of money, and could bring some players: the former NT goalkeeper Kardec, who will arrive to be the team captain, promising midfielder Ariel Bogota, defender Freudigmann from The Babbage Islands and experienced attacker Sinclair from Kelssek.
Fans’ Favourites: current favourite is the midfielder Romeu, due to him playing for Metropolitano for his entire career.
Good Bench Players: Artur Neto (defender), Laranja (attacker), Lino (midfielder), Peru (goalkeeper), Peixeira (defender).
The Fans Expect: escape relegation.
Fans’ style: cold (average number) – the supporters aren’t much enthusiastic for the team, although they are loyal.
Club Tradition: slightly traditional team – trying to consolidate in the 1st Division.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (**), Jorge Lang (**), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (*).

ENGENHEIRO PERES: Melkezedeck; Jänicke, Norström, Duílio and Motallbazadeh; Stone, Edgard, French and Nélio; Vitinho and Doctor.
Coach: Dedé.
President: Ramiro Navarro Guimarães.
Team Full Name: Associação Atlética Engenheiro Peres.
Team Style: very defensive using counterattacks.
Strongest Point: the offensive midfield.
Weakest Point: the central defence.
Nickname: Pedreiros.
Stadium Used: Parque Laurídio Januário, in Engenheiro Peres (cap. 30,000).
State: Espinal.
Team Sponsor: Farah Construtora.
Home Kit: red shirt and white shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt and white shorts.
Other Facts: one of the most commented teams during the last season due to the participation in the Globe Cup one season after getting promoted, now Engenheiro Peres is stuck as a weak team of the first division. The best player left, and a tough season lies ahead for the club.
Transfer Market: Adamílson left. No one could replace him well. Ed French and Stone come to reinforce the sector after the player left, while Nörstrom and Motallbazadeh will improve the most criticized sector of the team.
Fans’ Favourites: the team was able to keep its main players for seasons, and due to this the fans have many idols. With Adamílson leaving, Nélio assumes his place as team idol.
Good Bench Players: Maicosuel (midfielder), Calixto (attacker), Zeca (defender), Peixe-boi (defender), Muro (goalkeeper).
The Fans Expect: escape relegation without problems.
Fans’ style: enthusiastic (small number) – associated with the lower classes.

Stadium Used: Estádio Municipal do Norte, in São Jorge (cap. 20,000).
State: Dunboor.
Team Sponsor: Churrascarias Brasa Mora.
Home Kit: white shirt and blue shorts.
Away Kit: light blue shirts and shorts.
Other Facts: São Jorge was ever a solid team in the Second Division, but only know the team was able to get the promotion. Things, however, are going to be very difficult now, as the team doesn’t have top players – at least compared to the other Cafundelense major clubs – and don’t have tradition. A tough battle against relegation lies ahead.
Transfer Market: not many signings for the modest team. Teteo comes from Rio Bonito, Amate from SC Lasft and Túlio comes from América. Apart from that, the transfer of Gutiérrez will be difficult to overcome.
Fans’ Favourite: attacker Kelson is very popular due to the fact he has played in São Jorge for the last 10 years, but defender Nelsinho is also very famous and respected in the team.
Good Bench Players: Curupira (goalkeeper), Nestor (defender), Pedrão (defender), Túlio (midfielder), Rosário (attacker).
The Fans Expect: escape relegation.
Fans’ style: passionate (low number) – nice supporters, involving many family, but in a restricted area.

Nickname: Celestes.
Stadium Used: Caixão Beira-mar, in Cruzeiro do Sul (cap. 30,000).
State: Coast.
Team Sponsor: Agora Saúde.
Home Kit: blue shirt with black shorts.
Away Kit: White shirt with blue shorts.
Other Facts: an old team, but one that only recently became professional, Cruzeiro do Sul reaches the First Division with speed, counting with good organization of its board of directors. With money to sign with players and devoted supporters, the team now is focused in staying in the top division for now.
Transfer Market: Cruzeiro do Sul signed only foreigners during this window, both from inside and outside the Cafundelense league. From inside, Lyle Dylandy, Súrion and Griffiths. From outside, Tejera from Sargossa, who sends rising star Cleston to the bench, Thorvaldsson from Isselmere-Nieland and the midfielder Suleiman Donnchadh from Tyrrin.
Fans’ Favourite: right now, there are two of them. Zezinho is considered a key player of the team, and the goalkeeper Cleston is much respected.
Good Bench Players: Cabeça (defender), Renan (midfielder), França (attacker), Cleston (goalkeeper), Márcio Santos (attacker).
The Fans Expect: escape relegation.

Weakest Point: the full-backs.
Nickname: Academia Estelar.
Stadium Used: Gigantão, in Santo Galvão (cap. 80,000).
State: Titã.
Team Sponsor: Renascer Stationery.
Home Kit: black shirt with narrow blue horizontal stripes and Black shorts.
Away Kit: light blue shirt and black shorts.
Other Facts: promoted last season just one season after getting relegated, Galáxia decided to change in order to avoid another relegation. Finally the team stopped the tradition of not signing foreign players, and reinforced the team with both Cafundelenses and foreigners. Galáxia became famous as the first team of many stars of Cafundéu’s football, with an excellent youth academy, but even this seemed to slowly end.
Transfer Market: Galáxia bought many players from other Cafundelense teams, and some foreigners. Mário Moura arrives from Haja Coração, Bogart from Petardos S/A, and Yi Yeongpyo and Baecker complete the arrivals.
Fans’ Favourites: it is the goalkeeper Júlio Sampa, who is already into his forties and still loyal to Galáxia.
Good Bench Players: Sarende (defender), Guga (midfielder), Júnior Lopes (attacker), Marquinhos Juta (attacker), Marcão (defender).
The Fans Expect: escape relegation.
Fans’ style: cold (low number) – the team doesn’t have many loyal followers, although many people think Galáxia is a nice team.
Club Tradition: recent team – consolidated 1st Division team.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (**), Jorge Lang (**), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (*).

CR SUBMIRIA: Ari; Gumercindo, Castanho, Crioulo and Dinei; Cláudio Terra, Zanzibar, Paulete and Redesco; Cascão and Ilson.
Coach: Caladil Gatamyr.
President: Renato Bezzotto.
Team Full Name: Clube de Regatas Submiria.
Team Style: defensive, plays using counterattacks.
Strongest Point: interesting defensive midfield.
Weakest Point: poor defence in general.
Nickname: Náufragos.
Stadium Used: Aquário Nacional, in Submiria (cap. 60,000).
State: Coast.
Team Sponsor: Mundoafora Turismo.
Home Kit: blue shirt and blue shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt and blue shorts.
Other Facts: CR Submiria is clearly the team that simply cannot establish itself in the First or the Second Division of the Cafundelense league. For many seasons, the team is promoting, then relegating, then promoting... this time, the team will look forward keeping itself in the top division, but no one believes this will happen.
Transfer Market: not much to comment here, the team tried to sign with players from abroad, but failed.
Fans’ Favourites: currently it is the defensive midfielder Zanzibar, who is very charismatic.
Good Bench Players: Godofredo (midfielder), Serafim (defender), Selmir (goalkeeper), Arretia (attacker), Lopes (midfielder).
The Fans Expect: escape relegation.
Fans’ style: passionate (medium number) – most of the Coast state residents support CR Submiria.
Club Tradition: traditional – trying to consolidate in the 1st Division.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (**), Jorge Lang (**), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (**).

SANTA CRUZ DO NORTE: Menakilis; Matheus, Ananias, Tarcísio and Preto; Bobó, Wendel, Jorge Gomes and Vinícius Oliveira; Rediscley and Klaudin.
Coach: Dale Stevens.
President: Luciano Henrique Compaixão.
Team Full Name: Santa Cruz do Norte Clube de Futebol.
Team Style: balanced, likes to explore set pieces.
Strongest Point: the defence.
Weakest Point: the offensive midfield.
Nickname: Devotos.
Stadium Used: Monastério Del Rey, in Santa Cruz do Norte (cap. 40,000).
State: Titã.
Team Sponsor: Igreja Nacional do Cristo Ensanguentado.
Home Kit: black shirt with white stripes and white shorts.
Away Kit: white shirt and black shorts.
Other Facts: a team that was a solid Second Division contender for some time, but just now managed to get the promotion. Unfortunately for Santa Cruz do Norte, the investments on the team after the promotion weren’t heavy, and the team is considered by most the worst club of the division.
Transfer Market: nothing apart from the goalkeeper Menakilis and the midfielder Wendel. The team’s best player, striker Zedervan, left the club.
Fans’ Favourites: currently, full-back Matheus is the preferred of the supporters.
Good Bench Players: Darcy (midfielder), Ivo (goalkeeper), Natrek (defender), Gilsaw (defender), Kolobek (attacker).
The Fans Expect: escape relegated.
Fans’ style: calm (low number) – associated with the very religious citizens of the city.
Club Tradition: recent team – newcomer to 1st Division environment.
Experts’ Ratings: Sílvio Ruiz (*), Jorge Lang (*), Carlos Alberto Gujabre (*).

THE JOWENGUARD CROWN
Pre-Season competition to decide teams for International Competitions

After seasons choosing the teams to be directed to the TQCC, Globe Cup and SBCC through mysterious ways (although most followed a criteria, which changed once or twice), the CCFM finally decided to create a new competition in order to choose the teams to go to the international competitions to be played before the end of the Cafundelense season. In homage to the former president of the CCFM, Erasmo Carlos Jowenguard, the new competition was named the Jowenguard Crown. Played before the official beginning of the new season, is composed by some knockout rounds, involving teams which had good performances in the previous season: be those in the league or in the cup. The competition is divided in two "areas": the TQCC/GC and the SBCC, the winners of each one meeting in the final game to decide the Crown.

The first edition showed that the competition is a pure mess when deciding which teams would participate and which would be its format, and the CCFM directors proved that they are completely useless by repeating the same format and continuing with the mess involving this competition which is entering in its third edition. For the TQCC/GC area, the 8 best teams of the league were qualified (7, as the champion is already in the TQCC), together with the semifinalists of the last Empress Cup, and the last champion of the Second Division. Current First Division league champions (Cafundó do Juta in this case) wouldn't participate in the Jowenguard Crown and would receive an automatic TQCC spot. Of course, there were cases of a team qualifying in both league and cup criteria. But, in these cases, no substitute would be called.

Seeds for the TQCC/GC area are the following: League 2nd (1st), Cup Winners (2nd), then the qualified through the league (3rd - 7th), those qualified through the cup (8th - 9th) and last the current Second Division champion (10th). 1st and 2nd seeds would receive a bye on the first round, and the 3rd and 4th seeds would have the chance (or their opponents in the first round) to rest in the second round.

Former champions:

Edition 1 - Ranca Toco
Edition 2 - Petardos S/A

See the results of the TQCC/GC area:

First Round:

(3rd) Petardos S/A 2-0 Cruzeiro do Sul (10th)
(4th) A.F.F. 4-1 SC Lasft (9th)
(5th) Dunboor FC 2-2 Internacional (8th)
Penalties: 4-3
(6th) Ranca Toco 1-0 América (7th)

Second Round (losers go to GC automatically):

(1st) Atlético Jutense 3-2 Ranca Toco (6th)
(2nd) Porto Lacruz 1-3 Dunboor FC (5th)

Semifinals:

(1st) Atlético Jutense 2-0 A.F.F. (4th)
(3rd) Petardos S/A 3-0 Dunboor FC (5th)

TQCC Playoff (winner goes to TQCC/loser to Globe Cup):

(4th) A.F.F. 1-1 Dunboor FC (5th)
Penalties: 4-2[/i]

Area Final (both qualified for TQCC):

(1st) Atlético Jutense 1-2 Petardos S/A (3rd)

For the SBCC area, there was more organization, and it was easier to get which teams were qualified to play the competition and its format. There were no automatic SBCC spots, and fourteen teams were called, among relegated teams from the First Division in the last season, teams from the Second Division and last season's best Third Division teams. Of course, all of them are now in the Second Division.

The seeds are: last season's 17th placed at Division 1 (1st), 18th/Div1 (2nd), 19th/Div1 (3rd), 20th/Div1 (4th), top 8 not promoted of last season's Division 2 (5th - 12th), last season's Division 3 champions (13th) and last season's Division 3 runner-ups (14th). The first and second seeds enter only in the second round (quarterfinals).

See the results:

First Round:

(7th) Carandirú 3-1 Nacional da Cruz (10th)
(8th) São José 1-0 Aliança (9th)
(3rd) Khalmar-Tijhus 6-1 Varzeano (14th)
(6th) Clube Comercial 3-0 União Trabalhadora (11th)
(4th) Sambarilove 0-0 Eldorado (13th)
Penalties: 3-5
(5th) Nova Éden 2-0 Tênis Clube (12th)

(5th) Nova Éden 0-1 Eldorado (13th)
(2nd) Rio Bonito 4-2 São José (8th)
(3rd) Khalmar-Tijhus 3-2 Clube Comercial (6th)

(1st) Atlético Insular 3-1 Eldorado (13th)

Area Final:

(1st) Atlético Insular 4-1 Khalmar-Tijhus (3rd)

Global Cup Special Part 1 – TakilQuip Champion's Cup

With another exciting season of global cup action looming here’s our look at the Sargossan clubs looking to compete with the world’s finest. Starting with the biggest club tournament of them all. The TakilQuip Champion’s Cup.

El Nacional
Home: Independiente, Goza (Capacity: 120,000)
The nation’s largest city is suitably enough home to the Independiente, the nation’s largest stadium. Roared on by a six figure crowd the Gozan giants are hard to stop in their own backyard and their fans are hopeful that their formidable home form might finally help the team break into that elusive TQCC group stage.

Manager: Otto van Belhamel
A somewhat surprise appointment, possibly on the recommendation of former El Nacional boss and current Sargossa national coach Rob Kietecs, the Nethertopian arrived in Sargossa two years ago, fresh from leading SVV Stoedt to the title in his homeland. Trophies in his first season but won the SuperLiga with room to spare last term.

Team: Standard 4-4-2
Van Belhamel likes to keep things simple, with a flat back four and importance placed on getting the ball wide. In goal Nethertopian Maximilliano Barone provides an imposing barrier behind compatriot Caerus Lamarti and occasional Sargossan international Raúl De la Vega. At rightback Marcellus Valkenberg, also of Nethertopia, is rock solid but on the left veteran Javier Esteve is starting to show his age.

In the centre of the park El Nacional deploy a creator/destroyer combination which can revert into a midfielder diamond should the need arise. Rafael Balbo provides the cover for the defence, giving tricky Poconese playmaker Gandolfo the freedom to roam. José David Gómez, now in his thirties, is still a wily presence on the right flank while new signing Daniel Bravo (from Deportivo Soluca) offers pace down the left.

Up front Francisco Fontova, poached from city rivals S.C. Goza, will partner Antonio Mata. Teenage Nethertopian prospect Carl Franssen could see plenty of playing time too.

Sporting San Marquez
Home: Estadio Silva, San Marquez (Capacity: 64,000)
Any visitor to the Silva Peninsula can expect a carnival atmosphere on matchday’s down in the nation’s south western tip. Last season Sporting fans were officially discovered to be the noisiest. Fact.

Manager: José Felipe Cassumba Domingos
Some saw it as a risk, others, as a blatant marketing ploy when Sporting owner Daniel Gil brought the untried Candelariasian to the Estadio Silva. As a player ‘JCD’ had been something of a hero back in his homeland so his appointment as manager was seen as an attempt to attract the support, and cash, of the city’s large Marquezian diaspora to the club. Little did the experts know that JCD had a flair for this management lark. A Copa Sargossa victory in his first season was followed by two SuperLiga titles. Not bad for a marketing ploy.

Team: Attacking 4-2-3-1
Unsurprisingly, given his roots as a silky attacking midfielder, José Felipe Cassumba Domingos favours an attacking style. This tends to put a certain amount of strain on the defence but the ever reliable Aaron Turner in goal, whose form recently earned him a call-up to the C&M ‘B’ Side, is a fine stopper. New signing Alberto Torres (Deportivo Cordova) partners the talented Christian Viera in the centre of defence while António Olivera on the left and Jorge Alonso on the right provide width.

Experienced captain Vicente García and Candelariasian Hoero Dorantes offer cover to the centrebacks while the fallbacks bomb forward. Ahead of them the attacking trio on show, when they gel just right, can produce a devastating display. Down the centre Under-21 international Diego Lara couples subtlety and craft with a shot like the kick of a mule. Agapito López Santos marauds down the right with no real care for any defensive work and Cafundelense maestro Marcinho marauds pretty much wherever he likes, but nominally starts on the left.

Up front Roberto Ordóñez provides the focal point of the attack.

Global Cup Special Part 2 – Globe Cup

With another exciting season of global cup action looming here’s our look at the Sargossan clubs looking to compete with the world’s finest. This time it’s the turn of the Globe Cup entrants.

Porto Alegro Azul
Home: Estadio Azul, Porto Alegro (Capacity: 38,000)
Down by the shores of the Golfo de Azul the Estadio Azul, sandwiched between Porto Alegro’s old market district and the city’s sprawling harbour area, is one of the more picturesque arenas in Sargossa.

Manager: Agustín Durán
A former Azul player whose promotion from youth team boss to sitting in the big chair was underwhelming at the time. But now he’s regarded as one of the nation’s best up and coming managers having turned the Azul into one of the SuperLiga’s most consistent performers.

Team: Fluid 4-1-3-2
Opponents, fans or just casual observers can expect to see Marcos Barragán in goal behind a back four of, from right to left, Andrés Manco, Alejandro Morelli, Iván Aspas and Ismael Beltrán.

Guillermo Ríos will play the midfield anchor role allowing Roger Arribas, new boy Rubén Sáez and youth team product Ricardo Viegas to get forward to support the front two of Samuel Ballesteros and Vicent Reguero. The prospect of a Globe Cup campaign meant veteran Candelariasian Jason Federici postponed his retirement for another season, meaning the talented but flawed striker may make the occasional cameo.

Ciudad Soluca
Home: ediraf Arena, Soluca (Capacity: 85,000)
The nation’s finest sports facility was initially conceived as a home for Ciudad alone but spiralling construction costs resulted in a deal struck with city rivals Deportivo, who now share the stadium, and Starblaydi sportswear giants ediraf, who gained the naming rights, to finally ensure its completion.

Manager: Hane Davies
Former boss of Green Island and Caires City in the CMSC who masterminded The Errant Knights’ run to two TQCC semi finals and victory at Globe Cup 11. Now the Candelariasian is charged with returning Sargossa’s most successful club back to the top of the domestic pile.

Team: Traditional 5-3-2
Ironically the international exposure that has so benefitted the domestic league as a whole has probably helped to topple Ciudad from their perch as the nation’s top club side. The loss of Sargossan internationals like keeper Martin Tejera, striker Ernesto Farías and, most recently, defender Marcos Díaz García to bigger and better leagues has left gaping holes in the Ciudad squad.

The experienced Cafundelense keeper Júlio was brought in as an able replacement for Tejera and offers a reassuring presence behind the centreback trio of Damián Lozeno, Álvaro Royo and Darío Pavé. José Blanco has come in for Díaz García down the left while Taeshani international José Hüron provides good defensive cover on the right.

In the centre of the park Mariano Giménez and Sérgio Postiga create a solid midfield base allowing either new signing Marcelo Cobían or Francisco Patiño, in what must surely be his final season, to get forward. Di Bradini Cup starlets Rubén Contreras and Elías Carrasco both look like excellent prospects for the future and could see action sparingly this season.

Up front Ciudad employ a traditional big man/little man partnership with Zedervan, a prolific scorer in Cafundéu’s second tier, feeding off the knock downs of big target man Zachary Adekunde, a scorer in the final when Candelaria And Marquez lifted the World Cup itself.

Estrella Torreón
Home: El Torrigal, Torreón (Capacity: 30,000)
Perched high up in the Andean Mountains El Torrigal is Sargossa’s highest football ground. The fact that the trip to face Estrella is regarded as one of the SuperLiga’s toughest away fixtures is probably no coincidence.

Manager: José Cavalleri
A smart tactician who has done well at Estrella despite owner José Manuel Marañón’s frugal transfer policies. Led the Incan side to last season’s Copa Sargossa.

Team: Standard 4-3-3
Poconese international Petr Ollic has been earning rave reviews between the sticks and his man of the match performance in the cup final played a huge part in Estrella featuring in this Globe Cup. Ahead of him captain Jesús Valle keeps a flat back four well marshalled. Marcelo Ruiz, scorer of the only goal in the cup final, partners Valle in the centre while fallbacks Mariano Rubio and Antonio Nogués complete the organised unit.

Luciano Gómez is the key component in the centre of midfield, whose tireless running and defensive play allows the more attack minded Alejandro Solano and Alberto Peral to get forward. Width is provided by José Daniel de la Torre down the right and Mario Marín on the left who strive to support the lone frontrunner, Poconese striker Edmundo.

Sorthern Football League, 2040 season
Write up to come at a less ZOMFG need to rush this in time. Though every other time I've said that it never came, so write up to not come soon. Or it will. Perhaps this time'll be different. <-- Look, I've actually done it! Bet no one reads it, hello if you are though.

Shield

Still pointless, no one bothered to remember if this is the first time or not that Corcaigh have won it. It probably isn't.

17th of October 0-1 Corcaigh

Who are ya?, who are ya?, who are ya? A staple football chant for fans worldwide (well, English speaking ones anyway, Bostopian fans probably use some garbled mumbo-jumbo) and one that this season was largely directed towards a largely anonymous Snowspire. Champions just two short (compared to the Elite League anyway) seasons ago, and finishing third place last season, Snowspire this season showed what everyone thought all along. That, really they're just an average side who had a couple of good seasons. The team that took advantage of that the most was another side that has been largely average during the SFL's existence, Heathfield United. It was a good season overall for the Bhoys as well as winning the league their fierce rivals Heathfield City missed out on Globe Cup qualification by just one place, something that United fans have been keen to rub in.

Division Two

Once again the second tier was notable for the failure of the big teams, with both CF Septentrionien and Beningrad doomed to spending a third year in mid-Second Division obscurity. And quite frankly spending more time that that down here seems likely. Any pretences of them being a top tier side can now be considered over, they may well have the fanbases, but their players of top tier quality have flown the nest and fans of the two teams must surely be contemplating getting used to life in this division by now. The championship went to Reading Town, who are by all accounts thoroughly looking forward to life in the top division which includes the derby between East Reading and Town that is the clash between, er, east Reading and west Reading. Which really isn't that exciting as compared to most derbies it's pretty tame. Still, Town'll probably only spend a year in the top flight so it'll be a one off.

Division Three

Like CF Septentrionien and Beningrad, Rode Ster Amsterdam are the team that'll feel they're too big to not be in the top tier. Which means that for Rode Ster winning the Third Division championship (at the first time of asking) will have been greeted more with relief than with joy. Of the two teams joining them in the promotion places Floriana came down with them last season and Marx-Stadt will be hoping they can stay up next season and stop being the yo-yo club that they've been for, well ever really.

Division Four

A bit of a surprise in Division Four in that of the three teams relegated from Division Three last season only one, Workers United managed to bounce straight back up. And even then only by a point and quite some way behind second placed Castford and champions Gratnesborugh Seniors, signs that the bottom tier is getting closer to the third tier in terms of quality seasons by season. Of the two relegated teams that'll be spending next season in this league Euskara Portuezki will surely spend the off-season looking at where they needlessly dropped the points that cost them promotion and will be looking to not repeat those mistakes next season. So mid-table obscurity for them next year then.

This season saw a play-off qualifier introduced as non-League two clubs, Arhapur and Lengden Hibernian, made it as far as each other but further than all other non-League clubs in this season's Sorthern Cup. The qualifying round needed extra-time to find a winner. Once it was found though the final was, once again, a straightforward procession for the League club.

Sorthern Cup

Quite simply the only word that can describe the Cup this season is, quite a big bloody shock. Which is five really, but who's counting? As if Heathfield United 0-1 Deportivo Terondiz in the first round wasn't enough of a shock, two non-League clubs decided that they'd actually try and win the whole 'effing thing. Fortunately normal service was resumed when they were both knocked out in the semi-finals, by losing to Division Four side Esteghal Roudbahahr, and Division Three (and nearly relegated to Division Four) side Lispole Strand. So not normal service at all really. Lispole Strand became the lowest side to ever win the Cup defeating their even lower opponents by one goal to nil, in a final played in front of a mere 98,490 spectators, a record low for a Sorthern Cup final held in Beningrad.

Liga Panuul, 1775 season

Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Cimnersog Town 24 20 3 1 59 12 47 63 C/TQCC
2 U of Cimnersog 24 7 8 9 25 40 -15 29 Pl
3 Port Healfat 24 8 3 13 27 40 -13 27
4 Fortuna Cimnersog 24 7 5 12 27 34 -7 26
5 Healfat College 24 7 3 14 28 40 -12 24

Town is as dominant as ever, but history is made as for the first time Fortuna Cimnersog fails to finish second. In fact, it was really close as just five points separated second from fifth.

Since two seasons have passed since the last round of international competition qualification, the University of Cimnersog was placed into a playoff with 1774 runner-up Fortuna Cimnersog to determine who would receive the Globe Cup spot:

Fortuna Cimnersog 2-0 U of Cimnersog

And with that, order is, alas, restored.

International qualification
TQCC: Cimnersog Town
Globe Cup: Fortuna Cimnersog

Um.

Yeah.

Due to the incredible foolishness of the NeFA and the reorganisation of the Nethertopian football league structure and some passed deadlines, *deep breath* the Nethertopian Football Association will only submit two teams to the Globe Cup.

Tenderville United and NAPPC are the two teams that have been playing in the CMSC and are currently in some sort of table. They are thusly hereby sort of eligible for the competition. I hope.

Um. Yeah.

Globe Cup entries:
1. Tenderville United
2. NAPPC
Sporting achievements:
Third in WC51. That's about it. I think we once won the inaugural Table Tennis World Cup as well?

Between twelve stadia (oh! another increase!), the man responsible for choosing the venue between the candidates decided to stop studying the bids to prepare dinner, carrying the papers with him. Final Fixture and post-season mini-report

Skyte Cit 0 – 1 Valengren Kickers
The Kickers maintained their league status with a final day victory over fellow strugglers Skyte. Skyte had guaranteed their place in next seasons Una Serie after last weeks 3-2 victory over Almondvale.
Valengren needed three points to ensure survival and grabbed the winning goal in injury time of the first half. A great run by Samuel Etouba was brought to a swift end when scythed down by David Beecham. The free kick was just on the edge of the Skyte box and to the left of the goal. Fabianzki assembled a 4 man wall and Nazim Benayoun’s view of the goal was minimal at best, however the midfielder curled the ball round the wall and bent the strike into the corner of the goal.
After the break neither side mustered a single attempt on goal looking content to play out the 1-0 victory.
Skyte’s dismal placing has heralded chants for former manager Daryl Ferguson to return, while Kickers manager Ray Hodgson’s position also looks unsafe. After the game he stated

“There have been a few stories circulating that I’m set to be replaced next year. At the moment I don’t know how much there is in these stories and will see shortly.”

If Hodgson is replaced likely candidates to take the Kickers helm include former Royal coach Keith Fletcher and Gavin Dickinson, who has been out of management since being fired by Barbossa 30 months ago.

Real Minanda 2 – 3 Ridgemont Town
Ridgemont secure TQCC football by beating Minanda away from home. Goals for Kees Van Zundert, Tom Smith and Joe Carol were just enough to see the Northerners past Real.
Minanda took the lead on 27 minutes thanks to a sublime volley from Alan Sherington, however they found themselves under pressure and Smith added another goal to his tally. Van Zundert then gave Ridgemont the league, blasting in a 30 yard stunner.
Forward Joe Carol made Ridgemont’s win secure in the 76th minute adding a third with a well timed run into the box before heading the ball beyond Al Weaver in the Minanda goal.
Real pulled back a late goal following a mix up in the Ridgemont defence which benefited veteran midfielder Lillian Blanc who squeezed the ball into the back of the goal.

Royal Khaldoon 2 – 2 Port Los Renato
Royal storm back from behind to end the Anchormen’s time in the Una Serie. Port Los Renato’s fairytale finale looked under way when Lionel Vega hit the back of the net with a minute on the clock. A long ball launched up field from the kick off was met with confusion in the Royal back for and Vega was the beneficiary smashing the ball into the goal. Just before half time PLR’s survival seemed ensured when Rio Heskey snuck through the offside trap and slotted home to double the lead.
After the second half began the home team pressed and were rewarded when Sargossan striker Juan Segura bagged his 16th goal of the season. A cross from the right was met with the slightest of touches from his right foot to take it beyond Fernando Earroc. PLR’s stay in the Una Serie came to an end when Omid Rustu met a corner at the near post and shepherded the ball into the goal with his chest. After the game Alex Rowley was sacked and PLR will start life in League I with a new manager. Royal disappointed fans by failing to break into the TQCC positions and also missed out on a Globe Cup position.

Pythons 0 – 0 Salaga F.C
Salaga concluded the season with a point against champions Pythons in a tepid performance from the league winners. Fielding a team with only 5 first team starters Pythons struggled to get a foot hold in the game however their performance was superior to that of an abysmal Salaga performance who can thank a great first half to the season for preventing their relegation. A major slide since mid-season has seen the new boys shift from 5th to a few points above relegation bound Port Los Renato.
The shock of the game was revealed afterwards when Pythons manager Mark Sloan confessed star striker Ishmael Van Dyke had handed in a transfer request. The captain has been a driving force in Pythons capturing three consecutive league titles and helping himself to three golden boot awards.

Augustus 2 – 2 Jonastown United
Augustus brought the curtain down on their most successful season to date with a late draw against Jonastown United.
J Town have moved quickly up the league following last season’s last day survival and looked to finish on a high with an away win at Augustus, however young duo Hugo Anderson and Wayne Ullrich had other ideas.
Jonastown took the lead going into half time when Alexis Berklas found himself in space in the Augustus box to rifle into the back of the net. The deficit was doubled on the hour when Berklas again found himself unmarked at the back post to head in from a Logan Jordan cross. Augustus pulled themselves back into the game when 18 year old Anderson was fouled in the box. The winger scored the resulting penalty and kickstarted the Augustus come back. 16 minutes before time, Anderson and Ullrich played a one two and Anderson fired a blistering shot at goal, Warren Beattie could only parry and Wayne Ullrich followed up to grab the equalizer.

Athletic Khaldoon 0 – 2 Almondvale
Athletic finish in their highest position to date, two points and one place higher than they have achieved for the last two years. However they will be disappointed that they couldn’t take three points from this game and outplace rivals Royal Khaldoon.
Almondvale strolled to victory in the second half of the game scoring just after the break. Seb Guardiola broke the deadlock with a thunderous strike from the edge of the Athletic box. This was added to when Athletic defender Jessie Williams nodded the ball into the back of his own goal while under no pressure.
After the match Almondvale manager Fletcher Goodwin beamed

“Another year goes by, and we see another improvement. I don’t think it’s bad going that we made top 4 on such a slim budget. We have no money to buy players so I’ve been loaning in whoever I can whenever I can. We’ve also got a few lads coming through the youth team I’m planning on having a look at next term.”

The end of season bit...

Augustus retain their Trofeo Royal beating opponents destined for relegation in the final for the second year running. Port Los Renato’s lousy league performance was either compounded by or made up for with a run to the final in the Trofeo Royal. Next season when they begin life in League I they will have the opportunity to play in the Globe Cup, which again will put pressure on a team who are currently without a manager following the sacking of Alex Rowley.

Rowley however isn’t the only managerial casualty of the off season as the Villa Ortiz board have become tired of Don Heckles failed attempts to gain promotion. Ortiz again finished second and it is the belief of the chairman that this is as far as Heckles can take the Ortiz side. His sacking may herald Rowley’s return to management sooner rather than later.

Royal Khaldoon are expected to flash some of the cash they failed to spend last year and bring in a number of new players to push for an International club competition place following this season’s less than expected fifth place finish. Khaldoon are currently on alert following the news Una Serie top goal scorer Ishmael Van Dyke has handed in a transfer request. The Pythons striker has grown weary at the lack of competition in the Una Serie and is looking to move abroad. However he has made it a pre-requisite for any team looking to inquire about his services that they must been playing TQCC football.

Newly promoted Belle-Isle on Sea face a tough job bringing in new players after the town was voted “worst place to live” in Queer Poco el Mono Ara. The results of this survey may not impact on any foreign transfers but Poconese natives have no qualms about avoiding the seaside town. However their movements in the transfer market are more likely to be impeded upon by their lack of funds. It has been suggested The Seasiders have only $1million to spend on new talent following their promotion to the Una Serie and are being torn apart by crippling debt following the move to a new stadium several years ago.

Skyte City are looking to offload a number of this years underperforming players following their slide from title contenders to relegation battle survivors. Defenders David Beecham and Max Belmont are on the list as are midfielder Gabriel Simeone and former international forward Alberto Xisco. Reserve goalkeeper Alex Santana is looking to find a way out of Skyte following his infrequent spells in goal for City despite the poor form of Fabien Fabianzki.

CMSC XXXVI Preview

Across the multiverse; men, women and children huddled in corners wearing gaunt, hunted expressions and whispering to themselves can open their eyes and look upon the worlds anew. The Candelaria And Marquez Soccer Championship is back. Truly, there is a God.

Sooo… Er, yeah. As you were, really.

Very little in the way of newcomers, to be honest, will all indications suggesting a massive turnaround in personnel before next season instead… Not least because of rumours doing the rounds of a major change to the foreigner quota in a manner that may very well see the CMSC hauled before the Rushmori Court of… Employment Law, or something. Not to mention bring certain doom to the Marbles, NAPPC and Tenderville.

For now though, basically Green Island are going to win their third title in a row, with Turkish, the Scorpions and City sniffing around for second place. Unless we’re really, really lucky.

Best be getting on with it then, I suppose…

Players marked with a * are foreigners born in Rushmore or otherwise Rushmori citizens, and exempt from the foreigner quota. Nethertopian players moving to and between Nethertopian clubs are excluded from the above list, for sanity’s sake.

Players marked with a ** are those who were formally registered as members of C&M clubs’ youth academies, and thus counting as ‘home-grown’.

Green Island: Stockley – Paterson, Tinuviel**, Dorack, Raviranjan** – Kures – Aldren, va Drake (c), Young, DurosaAnwamane**
Nickname(s): GIZ
Stadium: Marlow Park [cap. 40,144], Zapata, Green Island
Coach: Daft Massimo
Background: A bunch of backward inbreds from the Candelarias’ oft-maligned third-largest island; the denizens of Green produced little of note prior to Lloyd Donnelly’s title-winning GIZ side back in XVI. Years later, Hane Davies got them promoted again, signed an obscure elf, led the club to second in the league – and they’ve since emerged as one of the dominant forces of the International Era, with two straight league titles under their belt. And lots and lots of Vanorians.
Team Style: Geared towards an offensive outlook, stunning enough; they ping it about like nobody’s business but their true strength arguably lies in moments of individual brilliance, with little Lúthien putting away any spilled saves that come her way. It really does work, y’know…
Star Names: I don’t suppose you’ve heard of a fella by the name of Eitherinbarion va Drake, have you? Just possibly the best player in the multiverse right now (although we’re a tad biased), the pointy hero is just about the complete player, but he’s merely one of a number – Aintôrthea Durosa is exceptionally versatile, Jhanna Young possesses shamefully un-Candelariasian amounts of talent (and she’s just a gurl), Lúthien Anwamanë is the highest scorer of the CMSC1’s international era, Ogus Kures a true unsung hero of last term who controls the midfield expertly and will have Albrecht FC kicking themselves they didn’t offer him an improved contract before XXXV… and that’s all without touching on young Jameson Aldren, who’s improving very rapidly indeed and looks as exciting a prospect as Young ever was…
On the Other Hand… No point wondering whether all this sparkly talent can fit together, after the last two seasons… But once again their XXXVI may be determined by the defence, which – big Dorack aside – remains nothing if not iffy. Not that they really need it.
Transfer Market: Why mess with perfection, eh? A couple of handy kids – full-back Antonio José Cantero and striker Ben Clayton come in from Castillo and Radyukevich to provide some options – and Marcelo Augusto Conceição Silva may push Raviranjan a bit, but Massimo’s sticking true to what he know he can trust for now.
Options: In general, it’s still a bench not to give the likely starters cold sweats – Valtheldorien Ealovaul clearly has a hell of a lot more growing to do before he can be anything more than Lúthien’s Vyintanese mate, and otherwise the trust is in the products of Zapata and the surrounding… whatever it is, these days. Versatile midfielder Jason Saunderson can still do a job, though.
The Fans Expect: Even they know they’ve been spoilt but, though a record-equalling third title in a row would be most welcome and all, a chance to put Massimo’s reputation as a cup boss to the test and make it further than the TQCC quarter-finals – never mind make the final itself – would pretty much put the cap on things. Most of all, though, they’d like their players and officials to start taking a more active role in their island’s political situation, because frankly the GIZ are all they’ve got left…
The Pundits Expect: Three in a row. Not at a canter, because this side’ll always have holes at the back and hardly swept to victory over the previous two seasons, but they’re most people’s tips to do it again. Not that it wouldn’t be a ghastly prospect, of course. Us Candelariasians have mocked our West Zirconian neighbours for their one-sided championship long enough, after all…

Albrecht FC: Rosalia – Logan, Graves, William**, St. Louis (c) – Tekeste, Nakatsuru, Zec, MorrisonKim, Wanderley**
Nickname(s): The Scorpions
Stadium: Millerman Sheppard Stadium [cap. 40,614], Songstress, Albrecht, Candelaria
Coach: Luis Enrique Torrealba
Background: The capital giants, the biggest club in the country, two-time TQCC winners, ten-time CMSC1 winners, a couple of recent CMS Cups in the bag an’ all… they’re the undisputed dominant force, at least in theory, but they’re still getting to grips with being owned by nefarious yellow foreigners, particularly ones who have gone all silent again and made this an uncharacteristically quite summer down in Songstress, not to mention the ripples still being felt by the loss of manager Andy Le Lan after more than a decade… Still, they managed second last term. All things considered, you can’t argue with that.
Team Style: Sensible rather than spectacular, this is about as bog-standard and unadventurous a 4-4-2 as it gets – but Candelariasians are more than a little au fait when it comes to the ins and outs of that particular formation, and so are the likes of William and Wanderley who have been here since they were mere babbies.
Star Names: Alright, nineteen year-old babbies. But William in particular is nothing if not one of Songstress’ own, standing resolutely in front of C&M ‘keeper Rosalia with his harmonica in one hand and attractive missus in the other (metaphorically speaking, naturally). Dominating proceedings is Jesse Nakatsuru, however, who isn’t quite at world class level yet, being rather too keen on looking flash rather than playing his part for the team, but that’ll come… and maybe even this season.
On the Other Hand… Frankly, half this team may not even be in place by the end of the Clausura, particularly if they get off to a bad start. The Scorpions pravda that is about half the Candelariasian media are all over themselves regarding “Torrealba’s tots”, with a transfer policy aimed at yoof and the rebirth of David Stone’s academy seeing the likes of Joe Hayter (DR), Gijs Van Aulen (DC), Sam Doswell (DL), Go Songji (DM), Rhys Khan (DM), Aled Abdurrachman (ML) and Adam Kouakou Koumé (AM) all on the verge of pushing their way through into the first XI… and that’s without mentioning…
Transfer Market: Fahmi Hamizi, a twenty year-old striker from Jesselton. Not a name to get pulses racing, certainly, but just you wait…
Options: Fred Foster’s still hanging around, even if Torrealba plainly doesn’t fancy him, but otherwise we humbly direct your attention upwards…
The Fans Expect: A slightly more serious title bid that last time, though for once they’ll be less than demanding, given what Torrealba’s been up against in his fight to make this squad his own. Most of all, though, they’d like that new stadium, kthnx.
The Pundits Expect: Could just be a bit of an iffy one, y’know. Though they finished second, the Scorpions never looked particularly likely to push the GIZ or City all the way, and most of their rivals have augmented their squads during the break in a way Albrecht simply haven’t. Top four with ease, then, but perhaps just off the pace when it comes to big one, at home or abroad.

Caires City: Becker – Neal, Hindenburg, O’Connell, Rosenthal**, – Jones, Marshall (c), Agostinho**, González, Lloyd – Williams
Nickname(s): City, the Errant Knights, the Towers
Stadium: McNeil Bingo Arena [cap. 40,144], Caires, Candelaria
Coach: Dionísio Madeira Lobos
Background: The smallest of Caires’ three professional clubs, City would instead emerge in the last decade-and-a-bit as standard bearers for the once dominant north of Candelaria, and the perfect model for a Candelariasian club. Two league titles under the great Elgin Dannat gave way to a (very) modest decline, but most fans still saw the subsequent sacking of Hane Davies as a big mistake and the arrival of utterly untested new manager Dioníso, a proper club legend, as nothing more than a sop. Er, no. Green Island’s major challengers throughout XXXV; reports of their inevitable demise have been hastily tucked down the back of the sofa.
Team Style: Not entirely unlike the GIZ, they’re not quick and more reliant on their enviable backline, but there’re moments of delicious link-up play that’s better than almost anything you’re likely to see anywhere.
Star Names: Reigning World Cup winning captain Tuomas Hindenburg still runs the defence, but as with his fellow international armband-wearers Anthony Jones and Colin Marshall he’s inching towards the end of his career and this might well be his last opportunity for domestic silverware.
On the Other Hand… The big question swirls around that trio: Are they peaking at just the right time or basically past it? And can their younger colleagues – uncapped Agostinho and Salvador González – step up and start sharing the ball? Second season syndrome for Dionísio and Leo Williams alike could do for ‘em as well.
Transfer Market: The big signing is arguably the league’s biggest full stop this year – and, while that probably isn’t anything to shout too loudly in and of itself, Dionísio’s been quick to eulogise all over the show regarding how O’Connell is going to be the best centre-half in the world within a season… Hyperbole perhaps, but his partnership with Hindenburg is properly scary.
Options: Are mainly provided by the other six new arrivals – including Nethertopian international Mulder, who should sneak ahead of Nic Lloyd before too long and provide some proper grit, and MN Smith’s Luke Lewis. Fellow forward Cas Richardson is still knocking about – and he’s the most prolific Candelariasian CMSC1 star of the International Era, don’tchaknow?
The Fans Expect: Thorough chastened by getting the whole axing-Davies-for-Dionísio thing dead wrong, there shall now follow a period of quiet reflection. Top four’ll do ‘em.
The Pundits Expect: If City are ever going to have a better chance of returning to the top domestically, never mind converting their international ranking into TQCC glory, it’s surely got to be now. By all accounts, there’re going to go close in both – but have they got quite enough to go all the way? Prolly not.

Tenderville United: Water* – Lilithian, Gaggioli, Meesschaert – Lewis, Martinez (c), Prescott**, Kuypers*, Reargold** – Deleks**, Night
Nickname(s): Tenderville, the Dragons, the Blue Storm
Stadium: Home of the Dragon [cap. 45,200], Tenderville, Nethertopia
Coach: Brian Carson
Background: The grey squirrels of the CMSC1, the Nethertopians came over ‘ere, employed our Candelariasians, added to our national coffers… No wait, this isn’t going well… So, the Ratos Island club were never expected to make the kind of impact they have, making the top four for the last couple of seasons – they’d’ve qualified for the TQCC if they hadn’t reverted back to NeFA control a while back, the silly billies – and becoming the first side from beyond the Candelarias to win the CMS Cup. That just isn’t cricket, which is presumably why it’s worked, because they suck at cricket. While it must be said that their first XI includes more Candelariasians than Nethertopians, they’re still loathsome.
Team Style: A 3-5-2, these days, but otherwise it’s much the same – lots of passing along the floor and flowing moves (ponces), all into the feet of a particular Mister…
Star Names: …Deleks. Drunn Deleks. Ninth on the International Era’s scoring charts, he’s outlived his homeland of Rennidan (and is one of those annoying foreign types who’ll probably end up outliving us all… something should be done about it, frankly), and he really is awfully good. Not the only one, though – Martinez is a World Cup winner, if a trifle old; Roel Kuypers was utterly superb last term; and even the three Candelarians are useful. Sickening.
On the Other Hand… Not an awful lot wrong with this side, really, with only potential staleness a concern. They may take a while to shift to the 2-5-2, mind you, and… and… Oh, who’re we kidding?
Transfer Market: One blessed area of satisfaction, with only a couple of random Sorthern youngsters spoiling the equilibrium. Good ‘uns, though.
Options: As ever, it’s basically just a lot of Nethertopians we’ve never heard of, though big Erik Jans can certainly make a major impact up front, and Alan, who tends not to play away games but appears due for a few starts this time around, is… is… Well, anyway…
The Fans Expect: A title run. The word ‘bastards’ comes to mind, for some reason.
The Pundits Expect: Right up there with the chasing pack behind Green Island, although (and this is the good bit) maybe not quite good enough to actually win anything! HA!

Albrecht Turkish: Paxson** – Rafaela*, Estévez, Tashkir, Titenburg (c) – Alexander, Werner, Robinson, Lori* – Calabrese*, Bakker**.
Nickname(s): Turkish, Millermen, Kinsmen, A.Turks
Stadium: Solidarity Stadium [cap. 66,200], Hoxton, Albrecht, Candelaria
Coach: Fabio Mannasuch
Background: Second biggest club in the country, yesyoowar, yesyoowar; the capital’s more bourgeois outfit (albeit with a slightly more exotic heritage) have largely lived in Albrecht FC’s shadow, but were the first to take the TQCC and have more league titles than anyone over the previous ten. They too are only just recovering for the exit after a veryveryvery long time of Asdrubal Espinoza, but in their case their replacement was just a tad more experienced that Torrealba – witness Mannasuch, brought in by the club’s Vyintanese ownership, who’s been at this management lark for longer than you’ve hard hot dinners, or… something. Even if he is going a bit weird.
Team Style: I don’t know. They don’t know. Mannasuch probably doesn’t know. A master rotator, they’re another attack-minded outfit – though rather less than they previously were. Indeed, it’s an actual 4-4-2 now! Pity they’ve only got three Candelariasians, eh?
Star Names: Is he Greg, is he Gary? We can never remember, but either way he’s INNISVALE, one of the finest pla… Oh. Alright. He appears to have fallen out of favour a bit, with Daniel “Nethertopian as Mayo Valley Distressed Pudding” Bakker and Ausilio “Would there be this eternal seeking if the found existed?” Calabrese favoured as part of a new front two. Darren Robinson comes back in as well, while John Yeoman – one of last season’s star players across the division – pops back out again. The pointy bugger’s lost the bloody plot.
On the Other Hand… It kinda worked last Clausura, that’s the thing. He tinkled, and left Turkish as arguably the half-season’s best side, and would’ve won the Clausura trophy (meh) were it not for three late defeats on the bounce. Against all reason, he does appear to know what he’s doing…
Transfer Market: Okay, so the biggest name this summer was actually Dwier Titenbburg Jr. (I know, how quaint), who joins from FC Capri to suddenly make this one of the most impressive defences in the division. Coupled with Alex Rafaela, who’s been doing an excellent job for Tenderville for quite a while now, and some other random Pasargian, they’ve been busy – and it really should pay off.
Options: It’s actually a pretty strong bench these days, with Niv Cohen still club captain and able to dominate the right flank in flashes, and the likes of ‘keeper Lyle Gwyther and flexible front man (no, really) Taylor Vostakova easily first XI class for just about anyone else. A couple of useful-looking kids are off on their travels though – with a certain Jaime Kuu at Rolalas FC whipping Oscar O’Neil and Mohammed Evans (watch the ethnic minority roulette, my children… watch how it spins…) into shape ahead of XXXVII. Or XXXVIII, possibly. Who can say?
The Fans Expect: Qualifying for the TQCC shouldn’t be an ‘underachievement’, but Turkish have long since shrugged off their comparatively undemanding nature, and will be calling for Mannasuch’s head if they aren’t contenders throughout.
The Pundits Expect: Contenders, certainly… But that’s almost all anyone is prepared to commit to after the months of weirdness under ol’ Fab thus far. Man-for-man, they’re just about as good as anyone, but that alone really does prove nothing. Champions from ten, relegation by Christmas… who can say?

Caires Sports: Kolukernin** – Actarish**, Plunkett, K’latris, Tascarnin, T’saal** – Valinial (c), Made’er**, Sinjinir*, Adirondu – Belmore
Nickname(s): CSC, the Knights, oh yeah them bloody Yaforites
Stadium: AAC-Dimrar Dome [cap. 38,838], Caires, Candelaria
Coach: Keron Alhrem… theoretically
Background: They’ve been around forever, give or take, but their success rate during the CMSC era has been pretty much woeful. Only recently have they begun chasing City anew and reaching something close to their potential, ever since the club fell (well alright, not “fell”… jumped enthusiastically, let’s say) into Yaforite hands. Top-half regulars now, they’ve had three successive sixth-place finishes under Alhrem, though many a cynical critic may point out that the octogenarian manager can’t actually dress himself these days, much less pick a team. Might explain why they haven’t made fifth, though.
Team Style: Eight and a half Yaforites in the starting XI. I want you to think about what that means, then come back to me. Show your working.
Star Names: Half the team are internationals with the Golden Wolves, though the stand-out remains the almost club legend (well they’re picky in these parts, arright?), Ahershk Valinial, though his opposite number on t’other side, Alager Adirondu, showed impressive flashes last term. The home-grown trio of Jono Plunkett – probably the fifth-best defender, but the only Candelariasian one – little Josh Belmore and big Robbie Sinjinir are beloved by a crowd formerly starved of their own youth products.
Transfer Market: Keron…? Keron? Mr Alhrem, sir? Have you… have… Has someone got a stick, sorry? Mr Alhrem! Have you brought in any… MR ALHREM!?
On the Other Hand… Damien Dulars, the powa behind the throne, won’t sit on his hands forever. Changes are entirely possible before the window slams shut. Or possibly they aren’t. Who can say?
Options: A much-trimmed squad, which is probably to everyone’s benefit, still sees a talented bench with the likes of Sorin Acraan and poor old Jarrell Reuberson-Mohammed, who must wonder what he needs to do to get past Sinjinir. The defensive options, ironically, are perhaps a tad ropier, but Harris Matthews is still knocking about and Behramji Torres (who’s supposedly of Pasargian origin, although we think he just likes to sound exotic) looks a talent at full-back.
The Fans Expect: A title push. For any title.
The Pundits Expect: Sixth.

Arrigo Portuguese: Romero Fernández – Al-Fayoomi, De Woudt*, Parrott, Wilkinson – Nicholls, Alvaréz, Oughton (c), Randjelovic – Lacamoire, Macanás
Nickname(s): Portuguese, the Heuva
Stadium: Estadio Nacional [cap. 50,138], Arrigo, Marquez
Coach: Carlos Panadero
Background: Proper underachievers hailing from C&M’s second city, Portuguese have never won the league title and aren’t even as wealthy as they used to be (owner Eduardo Morales being stinking rich by Candelariasian standards, but Candelariasian standards hardly matter any more), while the lengthy obsession with all things Kura-Pellandi is basically over (apart from the three stragglers, anyway). These days, they have stupid sexy Panadero to amuse us all instead. How nice.
Team Style: Less sexy, being a little too included to hoof it up to big Gabe Macanás and his lither partner, but it’s, y’know… alright, I guess. Eh.
Star Names: It’s all about Koviljko Randjelovic, the Squornshelan-born C&M citizen who’s the best lefty we’ve, ahem, “produced” for an absolute dog’s age. All music to the ears of Harry Oughton that, with the Kura-Pellandi stepover king playing some of his best ever football last year and clearly remaining Portuguese’s most important player. Watch out for Israel Álvarez, back from a star turn in Queer Poco el Mono Ara and an extremely accomplished young midfielder.
On the Other Hand… Hard to point out weaknesses, though Ali Al-Fayoomi may take time to settle into his new role at full-back and Anto Parrott is yet to entirely convince anyone. And yes, we know he should have an asterix these days. Someone’ll get around to telling the CMSC that sooner or later, no doubt…
Transfer Market: Erm, Parrott. And Álvarez is back, did we mention that? Former GIZ players Justine Aldren and Tom Osborne add options in midfield, but they may yet end up kidnapping Hugo Anderson.
Options: They really might, you know.
The Fans Expect: Steady development, but no-one wants Panadero to get as stale as he did at the Marbles. So maybe a push for their first ever CMS Cup title, or an extended Globe Cup run, should be the first port of call. Please.
The Pundits Expect: Ultimately, you can’t really plan for a cup run – which leaves making the top for again Panadero’s focus. They might just do it, but there’s not a whole lot of confidence out there. Seventh again sounds about right.

Marquez-Onwere: S’toris** – Villasenior, O’Brien (c), Stewart, Cotuba – Pappas, Joaio*, Souto Maior, Cincoski, Oliveira Tavares – Sáez
Nickname(s): MarquezOW, the Naranja
Stadium: La Escalera Naranja [cap. 38,080], Onwere, Marquez
Coach: Christopher Harvey
Background: Founded for the inaugural CMSC season, their fanbase consists of university students, former university students, and toothless Hispanic grandmothers. They were noted for perhaps the best youth development system in the country prior to the arrival of the now deceased Sam Wendell – who ploughed in enough cash to almost get them back towards their former glory. Pity about last season then, particularly the Apertura, which was just truly, truly awful for the kind of solid squad they had and have.
Team Style: A bit á la Green Island, except with flying wingers and, well… not being as good. And that’s only if Harvey doesn’t decide to scrap it all after a bad opening few matches and stick Bas Smit up front instead. Ugh.
Star Names: Plenty, at least from a Candelariasian perspective, with Diego Fernando Pappas and Macario Oliveira Tavares key players for C&M, alongside resilient centre-half Eric O’Brien, while Cassadaiguan captain Katie Cincoski will be expected to bounce back from her XXXV nightmare alongside the similarly disappointing Souto Maior. Amern S’toris is rather handy too. As is Cafundéu’s number two left-back Cotuba. And Starblaydia’s Gloria Villasenior…
On the Other Hand… On the Other Hand nothing! Okay, so we’re not convinced that Luís Sáez is really the striker they need to achieve greatness, but I don’t care! Stop making excuses and go and win something!!!
Transfer Market: The above aim isn’t helped overly by the loss of Jacob Davies to Cafundó do Juta. Chris Stewart from KT Hotspur is probably the next best bet however, at least with a blue and green passport, while Thjis Stot arrives from Nethertopia. We don’t know why.
Options: Although the academy may not be quite what it once was, the likes of Wildash Gatti (AM) and Alejandro Valdez (DL) are crying out for regular games. The bench as a whole is strong enough, with the aforementioned Smit and the rather littler veteran Wayne Sánchez both offering something different up front.
The Fans Expect: Last Apertura’s blip is acceptable, but young Mr Wendell surely won’t put up with a repeat showing. Among the supporters however there’s real pessimism, and few broad agreements over what this squad is genuinely capable of.
The Pundits Expect: Top four should probably be theirs without breaking a sweat, but one has to wonder whether it was XXXIV that was actually the blip, and Harvey’s capabilities have come under some serious questioning.

KT Hotspur: Gonzaléz – Lopulalan (c), Maxwell, Szathmári*, Cummins – Rataran, Smith, Makedonski, Clayton, Collins – Dariegan
Nickname(s): The Spur, KT, the Lilies
Stadium: The White Palace [cap. 41,472], Rose of Sharon, Candelaria
Coach: Juan Carlos Revault
Background: By some distance the most famous export of their depressed-former-mining-town home, the Spur were formed from the off as the product of the Adamczyk clan, whose cash handed them a league title and made them a consistent force in the top-flight. Without a title challenge for a good few years now, they’re now known pretty much singularly for their traditionally… cautious style of football – and even that’s slowly dying a sad death now. The Pcnannystate hand-wringing liberals are destroying our heritage piece by piece! When will it end, dear Emily? When will it end!?
Team Style: Defensive. But not that much… Indeed, they have an actual back four now and – get this – are starting to play it on the floor. It’ll never catch on.
Star Names: Vorin Dariegan isn’t a Yaforite. He can’t be. Only six players have scored more than him during the International Era, and the arrival of “countryman” Ras Rataran last term helped him even further. Maybe not quite on the scale of Caires Sports, but it’s the Novans who are key here too – although left-back Love Cummins is the real star name. Obviously.
On the Other Hand… This really isn’t a bad side, and it’s by no means surprising that they hauled themselves into the top-half late last season, but you have to wonder about Ryan González as his powers begin to wane, while Blagojce Makedonski really doesn’t dominate the midfield in quite the way he should or, indeed, needs to.
Transfer Market: Sarzonians, basically. Two of ‘em. Which means the Spur won’t have to want for a tough centre-half or big, ball-playing midfielder for… well, ever. Which is handy.
Options: A decent looking squad all-round, with Cobus van Linschoten likely to stake a claim for a place in goal before too long; Andy Nilsson a hard worker up front or down the flanks; Mark Maas looking all big and mean and tough at the back; and… Emma Jenkins. Plays on the left, but bless her for trying.
The Fans Expect: Staying up would be nice. Otherwise they don’t especially care. What matters is what happens off the pitch – because, in the eyes of many, this has to be the season where the Adamczyk’s iron grip on the Spur is loosened forever.
The Pundits Expect: Bottom half, unusually enough, with mid-table comfort all they can really hope for.

Port of Clotaire: John – Archer, Cooper (c), Andrews, Fuentes** – Van Dijk*, Edwards*, O’Airmeadhaigh – Ham, Arrigorriagakoa**, Sánchez García*
Nickname(s): PoC, the Harpies
Stadium: Harper Street [cap. 26,600], Clotaire, Candelaria
Home Kit: Bright red shirt with white sash, black shorts
Coach: Winston Muscat
Background: An elderly club playing at the oldest stadium in the division, the PoC have had really very little to shout about these last few years. Rare moments of joy have been elicited from the struggles of their poncy middle-class neighbours Radyukevich, and the Harpies themselves have never been relegated from the CMSC – but it’s not for the want of trying. Today dominated by Sortherners in everywhere but the boardroom – where they probably need them to most, if only to liven things up a tad – they’ve been tipped to make a breakthrough for ages now and never seem to come even remotely close.
Team Style: Where once there was undiluted, freshly-squeezed tedium with the bits left in, now there’s a most enjoyable 4-3-3 that truly should’ve got them at least into the top half last term.
Star Names: Unceremoniously dumped from his national team over a highly inconsiderate goal celebration, Ham Hyi-san is hardly a loved player in C&M or SN alike. But he is a superb goal scorer, and his alliance with countryfolk Iñaki Arrigorriagakoa and Francesco Sánchez García should be the most dangerous in the division by a mile. So why isn’t it?
On the Other Hand… By rights, the central defensive pairing of Alan Cooper and Brian Andrews should be peaking right about now, while Caleb Edwards is still an immense form and the attack-minded full-backs Santiago Fuentes and Ricky Archer highly underrated. They really are good, you know. Pity about Muscat, then…
Transfer Market: Not a lot. Shame about St. Pat’s getting themselves relegated again, eh?
Options: George Rachna should be pushing to start ahead of Cooper or Andrews in the event of the traditional awful Apertura, while big midfielder Tore Flasher and wide man Al(bert) Owen are still knocking about. The bench remains their major weakness, in all honesty.
The Fans Expect: Muscat’s head, feet and nipples on a platter if they aren’t right in the hunt for at least a Globe Cup spot from the very start.
The Pundits Expect: Nothing of the sort, and yet more mediocrity from a side that should just be so much better.

Mayo Valley: Tipping – Darby, Palmer, Johansson**, LiljaNorthWalker, Tillström, Zoric, Warren (c) – Subudhi*, Szatmári*
Nickname(s): Mayo, Valley, the Sky Blues
Stadium: The Wall [cap. 21,867], Hodgehill, Candelaria
Coach: Zachary Telemans
Background: Their presence retains the “Eh?” factor, with Mayo simply not expected to stay up at all last term – never mind do so at an absolute canter. Based in a tiny little town in western Candelaria, they remain the definitive team for a huge swathe of the rural part of the country and clearly have bags of potential. Yes. Clearly.
Team Style: Safety-first, but surprisingly pretty for it. One can’t rave, as such, but they’re not a bad advert for mid-table sides, all things considered.
Star Names: The hero is Manny Warren, a Taeshanese Madonna who just wants to cuddle the whole world between his big bear arms. Talking of, er… arms; Ilga NorthWalker is a scary proposition for any left-back, and the Toyur star Justin Tillström’s not half bad either. In all, it’s actually a very fine midfield.
On the Other Hand… Defence is where it really matters though, and it remains to be seen whether this particular lot can make the most of a second season in the 1. Samuka Szatmári has never spent more than one term in a row with the same club, and may be getting itchy fingers already, so much may rely on formerly anonymous Nethertopian Niek Hostetter, whose name isn’t anywhere near as funny as it should be.
Transfer Market: A youthful Sterogan striker is their most recent acquisition (like, today! Nothing if not up-to-date, us), with Adam Darby, an immensely talented young Sloane native, previously the most high-profile new arrival. Ick.
Options: Oh, they’ve brought in not unreliable midfielder Lisa Walker too, along with lower league journeyman defender Jesús Arango. The home-grown products remain key, however – with midfielders Joe Milošević and Archie Zelic surely pushing for starting spots if a couple of them pesky foreigners hadn’t nicked their favoured positions…
The Fans Expect: Winning the title, staying up, going down – it hardly matters as long as they get to keep Telemans, who clearly knows what he’s doing.
The Pundits Expect: A punishing second season is still a distinct possibility – witness Albrecht Independent last term – but they’ve arguably got just enough to keep their heads narrowly above the relegation parapet. That hasn’t stopped a handful from tipping their demise though, and a Globe Cup push is certainly beyond them.

NAPPC: Meléndez* – Veldkamp*, Singer, Cassou*, De Opper* – Barentstochter of Bergkamp of Drotske of Groethuysen of Hackenbroch of Struycken *, Taylor (c), Thwante, Cuesta* – Van Dyke, González Rodríguez*
Nickname(s): Peregrines, Knights Templar
Stadium: Falcon Stadium [cap. 51,300], Peregrinus City, Nethertopia
Coach: Victor Wildeman
Background: The other Nethie club in the CMSC1, and no less evil. The black squirrels, if you will. While they’re yet to reach the heights of their rivals, the Peregines surprised many by staying up comfortably last term, and even troubled the top half early on. I don’t want to talk about them.
Team Style: Somewhat more defensive than t’other lot, but there’s still plenty of pace here and no little cleverness. Ugh.
Star Names: Wais Thwante may be out of the Vephrese squad, but he’s still a major force at the base of the midfield, though the key man is Daniel González Rodríguez, a worryingly talented young Sargossan striker. One can also look to Kevin Taylor, the injury-prone Newmanistanian captain, if one especially wants to.
Transfer Market: A few noteworthy arrivals – a Sorthern international of, and this may surprise you, Nethertopian descent, a Bostopian I’ve never heard of, the Pocoan star striker, and a Netherquezian who appears to have definitively switched nationality again. Hateful, utterly hateful.
On the Other Hand… The random Sargossans and Nethertopians that make up the rest of the squad aren’t really up to much, frankly, making them overly reliant indeed on their useful handful.
Options: Dunno. There’s someone called Koen Groothuizen, if that helps.
The Fans Expect: Top-half and absolutely no struggles.
The Pundits Expect: Which does seem overly optimistic, but few are tipping them for anything close to the drop. They’ll be fine; no more, no less.

Gamboa FC: BartolomeuZanirato, Aldo (c), D. Lacombe – Tollison**, Coventry**, Nixon – Chinn, Potter, Jorge Roberto
Nickname(s):
Stadium: Wallpark Road [cap. 30,092], Abiodun, Candelaria
Home Kit: Crimson shirt and shorts with black trimming
Coach: Sargento Castelão
Background: Former greats, Gamboa were the playthings of the denizens of the wealthiest single district in the whole bloody country… and still are, up to a point, but there’s no way said poshos can fund a genuinely competitive team these days. Of late, they’ve done well just to stay up, never mind qualifying for the Globe Cup after the last Apertura, and club legend Castelão continues to quietly impress with a club getting comfortably used to squatting in the shadows.
Team Style: Not exactly the most progressive team of all time, this 4-4-3 tends to ignore Abiodun’s resident Secristianians where possible in favour of hoofing it up to the big guys and relying on Roberto’s pens.
Star Names: The retirement of Lacerda is a big ol’ loss, placing even more pressure on Roberto’s shoulders, but Aldo is a class defender and Kayben Nixon continues to show signs of living up to his early promise on the left.
On the Other Hand… If they’re to do anything more than struggle, they’ll need the scattering of home-grown youths in the group to likewise make the step up – with John Potter continuing to flatter to deceive and David Lacombe a hopelessly accident-prone full-back.
Transfer Market: The loss of Raheem Kay to the below is a serious blow, with Bartolomeu aging and badly out of form, but if anyone can bring out his best it’ll be the Sergeant and his Cafundelense backroom staff. Simon Chinn, at twenty-six, clearly couldn’t wait to get out of the Scorpions squad and start starting games, and he could yet prove the buy of the summer.
Options: Francisco Gómez remains a useful player out wide, but otherwise they’ve dipped down into the lower divisions – with the pick of the bunch arguably being teenage left-back Daniel Stride from Turks’ Club, who could well be past Lacombe in Castelão’s thinking very quickly indeed.
The Fans Expect: Derided for their belief that GC qualification was a genuine possibility last time around, they’re all puffed up like turkeys now and reckon they can manage a repeat performance, at least during the first half of the season.
The Pundits Expect: They’ve got good things going for them, but hopes of anything more than a fight to remain in the division surely belong amongst the clouds and cuckoos, and they’ll struggle right from the off.

El din Marbles: Kay – Rodríguez (c), González*, Raellis, Díaz GarcíaHorrigan, Erwin Visser*, Schaak*, Pavoni, Herráez* – Erik Visser*
Nickname(s): Marbles
Stadium: The Marble Ground [cap. 40,052], El din, Marquez
Coach: Félix Barreto
Background: With a fanbase drawn from amongst both the poorest urban districts in the land and some of its most opulent neighbourhoods, the Marbles have gone through many different lives before finally emerging from Cathedral City’s shadow. They may not yet have offered a genuine title challenge, but they’re inching ever closer – assisted just a bit by their Sargossan ownership and, now, management. For all their wealth, last season was simply dire and they were fortunate indeed to stay up, but surely, surely, they can do a whole lot better this time around…
Team Style: The only brand new manager ahead of the new season, Professor Félix has a wealth of experience back home but is very much an enigma in these parts, so who knows? One thing’s for sure: It won’t be a 3-6-1…
Star Names: Short on world beaters they may be, but it’s still a very strong looking group all round – from (former) Taeshanese international Jacin Raellis and (probably former) Dancougan international Cody Horrigan, to Erik Visser, clearly one of the division’s best strikers of the moment. He’s not called Ricky.
On the Other Hand… Well alright, maybe he is. But shh, keep it on the low.
Transfer Market: A mercifully quieter summer, thank heavens, in which the major story was Jordan Hawker’s exit after just one season. In all honesty, he’s no real loss, and the fans are far more chuffed with the arrival of Kay between the sticks, and Sargossan international Marcos Díaz García, who’s the first dedicated left-back they’ve had on their books since God was in short trousers.
Options: Solid enough bunch, with Albrecht reject (but only just) Joshua Spencer set to put pressure on Luis Pavoni, while Wim Smits can still play just about anywhere, Matthew Sekulovski is probably the league’s best bench-warming ‘keeper, and Arouna Soro… appears to still be here. Curious.
The Fans Expect: Better than last time. And it’s not as though you can accuse them of getting all hoity-toity in their newfound wealth, is it?
The Pundits Expect: They really do have the potential to give the barrios something to cough about, but Barreto’s period of adaptation will be lengthy and you can forget the title challenge some have muttered about.

AFC MN Smith: Mirakel* – Marin, Meyer, Tiller, LittlefellowVan der Laan* (c), Small, Rogers, Eenpalu – Budden, Postman*
Nickname(s): MN Smith, the Smudgers, the Smith, Smiths
Stadium: City of Bove Stadium [cap. 20,568], Bove, Candelaria
Home Kit: Bright red with random blue bits
Coach: Will Medlin
Background: Zey haff no monies, and yet the Smith have been ever-presents in the top-flight for a couple of decades and always appear capable of hanging on in their despite their fractious and forever inter-warring supporters (who probably can’t even remember why they started fighting anymore… seriously, someone airdrop marmite into Bove, for heaven’s sake), boardroom full of numpties, and the presences of Quodites. This time around, the trust has been placed in former player Medlin, who at least knows the youth system here – and an enviable one it is – and can put his trust in the most recent generation of kids.
Team Style: Nervy. The comforting blankie of 4-4-2 aside, everyone’s usually left looking to Marcel van der Laan, who isn’t actually much cop but is nothing if not a proper leader.
Star Names: Peter Rogers, with his collection of big floppy bunnies and perky sports reporter gurlf, has been the go-to man for a good few seasons now, but he really needs to recover his form after the disaster that was last term. But potential idols could still be found from amongst the little’uns, with eighteen year-old striker Alex Budden carrying a huge amount of responsibility and aggressive centre-half Leon Tiller shows signs of being the next player snapped up by Turkish, or someone.
On the Other Hand… There’s still plenty of questions to be asked over the two Nethertopian internationals in the squad, and Loren Meyer’s a worry too – you can’t blame her for becoming complacent after 1000000000000 years, or thereabouts, in Candelariasian football, but she’s a far cry from her Albrecht FC days.
Transfer Market: Eenpalu arrives from Radyukevich, having shown ability in flashes, and as the only major arrival – and a pretty expensive one at that – Medlin’s future may rest on whether the Somewhereistonian can repay his worryingly inexperienced new manager’s trust.
Options: Er, well… Pff, erm… Ooh, left-back Danny Dunphy’s supposed to be quite promising and Bryan Harrison has done a job on the flanks in the past, but… Eh.
The Fans Expect: Fifteenth if they’re very, very good boys and girls. Anna pony.
The Pundits Expect: Absolutely no-one’s tipping them to go down, because that’s a fool’s game. Instead, everyone’s pretty much crossing their fingers that the reverse psychology works a treat and they’re finally put out of their misery.

Cathedral City: Giménez – Bradley, Poole, Ferreira (c), Oseku – Pallotta, Delara, Banz, Yeboah – SolarisPaganel
Nickname(s): Catedral, Cats
Stadium: La Neuva Decimotercia [cap. 27,227], El din, Marquez
Coach: Fernando da Silva
Background: Traditionally the number one force in El din, the Cats have a laughable record when it comes to actually winning stuff – with last term’s CMSC2 title their first proper trophy at senior level. They’ve fallen quite some way since they were title contenders in XXIX and TQCC2 semi-finalists, a collapse coming off the back of woeful financial mismanagement that arguably left them within hours of destruction at one point, but they’ve since had a satisfying influx of cash and will be out to prove that their spell in the second tier was but and embarrassing blip.
Team Style: *Ahem* Why guv’nor, ‘tis be a 4-4-2, with flying wingers and a big-man-little-man partnership and… Gosh, we’re dull in this country, aren’t we?
Star Names: After sticking with the club following relegation, and sacrificing his legitimate hopes of senior C&M caps and all the trimmings in the process, Sebástian Ferreira is a bit of a legend in these parts now. He’s not the only local boy made good, however – with Alfonso Yeboah and Evan Pallotta both very exciting prospects in one of the few sides to not actually take on a more diamond-y look this term, and there’s even a local girl made good an’ all. And she’s the goalkeeper. Stone the crows.
On the Other Hand… A distinct lack of pace in the back four is a particular concern, and one has to wonder whether Da Silva has made a significant boo-boo by making considerable changes to a successful second division side.
Transfer Market: Plenty, really, and bags of experience at that. The partnership between Morgan Banz and Nicole Delara, two of the league’s Vanorian journey… people, could well prove to be inspired, while Courtney Poole certainly knows her way around Candelariasian football. The key man could be Nathan Paganel however, the exciting Radyukevich striker who forms a potentially dangerous twosome of his own with the Pocoan Solaris.
Options: Some of those forced-out youngsters will be champing at the bit, with playmaker Rubén García potentially the best thing to come out of El din for quite some time and Oscar Mendoza a very solid alternative in the centre of the park. Hla-Thein’s still knocking about.
The Fans Expect: Basically securing their top-flight status first and foremost. And once that’s done, they’d like to go after the CMS Cup again, please.
The Pundits Expect: Best of the newcomers, they won’t trouble the top half and that inevitably means a struggle – but not too much of one. Promising, basically.

Candelaria-Allemali: D’AnielloPalmer, Jackson (c), Van Houton tot Shaagen*, ĢipslisKenroe, t’son o’Henry, Jurrie*, Alvis – Silva, Redzic
Nickname(s): CandelariaAM, Shining Sons
Stadium: The New Sausages Arena [cap. 46,208], Allemali, Candelaria
Coach: Ernie Thomas
Background: Former champions, and third in the league as recently as XXXI, the Shining Sons are another side laid low by financial difficulties, but as the only club of note in the sizable city of Allemali they’re just too big to stay outside the CMSC1 for long.
Team Style: A long-standing reputation for unpleasantly meaty challenges has given way t… no, no… no, I’m being told it actually hasn’t. Instead, they’re as much a bunch of cloggers as they ever were.
Star Names: Ignoring the newcomers for a minute, the youth system has spewed out a couple of mini gems – large forward Zlatko Redzic and very strong tackling central midfielder George t’son o’Henry, which is about as ethnically interesting a pair as you’re likely to find in these parts.
Transfer Market: Gosh, where d’you start…? Ben Palmer returns, for one thing, along with Somewhereistonian international Ģipslis, and Taeshanese international Tyler Kenroe, and Nethertopian international Gregory van Houton tot Schaagen. Nice.
On the Other Hand… So does Alessandro D’Aniello from Port of Clotaire, a young goalkeeper who really does look a horrific liability.
Options: Experienced campaigners include lefty Reuben Millard, versatile defender Jordan Landeka, former MN Smith forward Owen Fox and diminutive but shockingly tough holding midfielder Emily Pak.
The Fans Expect: A SBCC tilt would be welcome, on the offchance they end up hosting the final… Otherwise, clinging on by their fingertips and avoiding becoming the new Radyukevich.
The Pundits Expect: The new Radyukevich. Too big for the CMSC2, too poor to assemble a top-flight side, it’s going to be another year or two of disappointment, by all accounts.

McDonald SC: Andu** – White, Davies, Shannon, Iampietro – Williams, Connah, Gantser, Munir – Sheppard – Andryan
Nickname(s): Dons, Flying Fish
Stadium: Oakley Park Self-Catering Holidays Arena [cap. 16,921], Saurin, Candelaria
Coach: Mike Alvintzi
Background: A slightly tedious team from northern Candelaria, who we’d all rather weren’t here. I mean, nothing against them personally, you understand. But there are so many more interesting clubs out there… Anyway, tend to bounce up and down, never done anything of merit, formed by fascists, force their players to play charity cricket matches every now and again… *yawn*
Team Style: Dull.
Star Names: Of those still hanging about from their promotion campaign, Taeshanese full-back Marion White is probably their best player, frankly, though none-too-nimble teenage striker Ryan Sheppard has the potential to fill his boots, providing nobody thinks to challenge him in the box, or anything.
Transfer Market: A midfield partnership of rejects doesn’t automatically bode well, but Sascha Connah was unlucky not to break into the Caires City first team and deserves this shot alongside the less promising Dearlove Gantser. Nimble forward Nashroy Andryan could join Sheppard in forming a halfways decent front two, but his Mara side were relegated for a reasons… Sanizam Andu looks the better offering, and Massimo Iampietro was a steal from City, so… Not so bad, all in all.
On the Other Hand… Alvintzi’s never kept a side in the top-flight before, and has cheerfully told everyone that they’ll probably be relegated with a record low points total. Weeee.
Options: Bits and pieces, mostly CMSC2 regulars along for the ride. Highlights include right-back Ernald Elphinstone, wide man Cecil van Donop, forward Cuthbert Bastard… Something fishy’s going on here…
The Fans Expect: Genuine excitement, but Alvintzi’s position is guaranteed whatever happens.
The Pundits Expect: Which means they’re going down. But perhaps not with ease, and could certainly leave CandelariaAM in particular trailing in their wake.
