As Battle took home its 5th Duke League Crown, it's once again time for the all-mighty, all-ruthless Zarblese All-Star Game.

It's the struggle for the One Ring, the battle for Narnia, it's Tigers vs Emperors!


Tigers
Tigers' team is chosen from clubs from the North-East (Asia FC, Cross SC, Mountain Chain, Polar Zenith, TFC and Zug-Zug) and West (Billiard, Cannibals, Revolutionaries and Romans) regions.

Tigers was able to draft players from 5 of the Top 6 clubs of DL-X.

Emperors
Emperors' team is composed of players from the Center (Classics, Drooler, Goyoreh, Lichen, Lunar, Morphologic and Warriors) and South (Battle, Knights and Pyramid AC) regions' clubs.

Even though Emperors had the champion to choose players from, the other teams in the regions did not do so well.

The Match

The game was once again held in Kazis Treta Stadium, in the city of Battle, with loads of Battle fans cheering for the Emperors.

Too bad for them. Tigers' side this year was undoubtly the better team, starting with Kagdazka and Pazhujebu's goalkeeper Zubeida Ichuvihaja, who managed to stop the deadly Battle front couple Kan-Karazaua from the beginning to the end.

With her compatriot Misha Spiridonov in an inspired day, Tigers stroke three goals in just 10 minutes, all in plays started by Cross' midfielder. First with Haljordan Lanternaverde at 17', then with Jenio Digin at 19', and once again with Lanternaverde at 27'.

Thus, the match was practically set in the first half. The second was a lot smoothier, but not so that Tigers couldn't put another nail in the Emperors' coffin: Enrike Tudor scored in a perfect and undefendable free-kick, and so it was: Emperors 0, Tigers 4.

Tenth Aeropag Football Invitational

The Paripana Sporting Council has elected to offset the Aeropag Football Invitational by one year (half a season); therefore, the tenth edition will not take place until 2200.
(OOC: This means that the competition will henceforth be posted separately from my league results.)

Élite League 2198–99

The Paripana Sporting Council has again revised its plans for next season’s Promotion League; the competition will now involve thirty-two teams qualifying from the Open Cup’s qualifying phase and place them in eight groups of four, with the winner of each group being promoted to Élite League Two.

Élite League One
In a most bizarre Élite League season, the Big Three were shut out of the top two places by perennial also-rans Medoria Löwen and Griffin Zebras. Sonoma Center Panthers nearly failed to qualify for the Champions’ Cup, finishing ahead of cup winners Sokojiwa Dosi on wins, while CF Aéropag was relegated to Globe Cup play despite finishing a point ahead of the Anaphasian titan.

Paripana Open Cup

The second edition of the Paripana Open Cup saw twenty new teams enter, increasing the total to four hundred exactly. Because of the new plan for the Promotion League, the fourth qualifying round was removed from the competition; all Élite League Two teams now enter in the first round and all Élite League One teams in the second round. A proposal has been tabled to enter third-division teams at the second qualifying round, but this has not been implemented for the time being.

Academy Football League

With the International University Challenge Championship officially scrapped, the Academy Football League is the now only active university competition with any sort of media presence, and proclaims its Championship Trophy to be the world championship match. In order to defend this claim, it has offered to negotiate with academic institutions outside Paripana to form additional conferences, though it is unclear whether any such institutions are still funding their athletics departments enough to play the requisite interconference schedule.
Since the Copper Trophy is no longer needed to determine qualification for the IUCC, it will next season be reduced to the status of an ordinary trophy game, rather than a playoff for third place.

Ok. While the most recent UICA cups haven't even began, (something quite a few teams aren't pleased with this) the States have already run their course... Oh, and did I mention that this season will see a new format.

Yes, another shake up!

This season will see the trial of a format that sees Division National and the v.league merge. Now, the v.league will be comprised of Division North and Division South. Both will contain 24 teams who play a rigorous 70 game schedule (2 games (1 home 1 away) against each division mate and 1 game (12 of which will be @ home) against each team in the other division) that will see a game every other day. At the end of the regular season, the top 8 teams of each division will go to the playoffs. The first three rounds will see a two-game aggregate between the two clubs, while the finals will be one game held at a neutral location.

Then again, who said football wasn't tough.

Qualification to the v.league is as follows:

Division North will see 4 clubs from Ita, Tompkins, Anglorcia, Segycium, Mountingshire and Brantaland.

Division South will see 6 clubs from both Vonghurst and Tropaia and 4 clubs from Anglaia, Albon and Eropeos.

UICA (and others) Qualification (until we get a second TQCC spot) will be as follows:

TQCC: Winner of the Final

GC: Final Runner Up, Best team in regular season (if they get the other GC spot or a TQCC spot this will go to a team selected at random from a lottery of all the playoff teams), Best team to lose in the quarter finals (based on regular season record)

SBCC: No second division

CC: Winner of the Final,

RCdC: Winner of the Final, Best regular season team (If the same as the Final Winner will go to a team at random)

OSN - Osarian Football Round Up

With the new season still a month away, Osarian clubs have begun their ventures into international competition, and it all looks good so far.

Firewood City are through to the playoff round of the TakilQuip Champions' Cup after they saw off Astograth's Ituraitz FC comfortably in The Cauldron with a 4-1 victory, after being held 2-2 in the away leg. Two goals each from Ashley Blake and Reece Anderson at home saw off the UICA newcomers. The away leg the week before was not so simple though, as the King's League champions toiled to come back from 2-0 down at half time. A late Andrew Riley free kick restored parity, after Ryan Crow had pulled one back shortly after half time. Willem Hamel's side will now face Sarzonian side Carthage Cannons in the playoff round, in a tie many will fancy them to win. It won't be so cut and dry, though. Sarzonia are known for their sporting pedigree, and it is reasonable to assume that their domestic sides won't simply roll over.

Burningham City are also still in it, despite a scare against Mar Sara FC. Having been held to a 0-0 draw in Valanora, it looked like Sir George Pennant's side might be heading out, as they would certainly be in trouble if they conceded at home. However, the club's Tyrrinian captain Melvyn Shahar had a stunning game alongside Balidian defender Stanley Tracy, as the Elishat Stadium claimed another victim. Goals from Everton McNeill and Olive Lawrence either side of half time secured the win for the home side, who will now face West Zirconian side Stanley United in the playoff round.

Elsewere in the Champions' Cup, Erathi champions FC Mildrid - now home to three Osarian internationals - recorded an impressive 3-1 victory at home over Liventian champions Dover City, before suffering a crushing 6-1 defeat in the return leg, ending any hopes of seeing Joshua Nurse come face to face with his old club in the group stages.

The Globe Cup draw has also been made, and Corradini Cup holders Hastmead Diamante have a tough road. They will need to go through four rounds just to get to the group stage, and their journey starts with either CF Outineau of Kelssek, or Metro Tirana of Delaclava. Amandeep Sahota has shown a lot of confidence in his side, since he is certain that star forward Bethany Martin will be back in action for the team. Acknowledging the absences of Francesco Villa and Cameron Roberts, he underlined his belief that the team could do well, referencing their impressive 4-1 win over Firewood City in the Corradini Cup semi final last season.

"Obviously, losing Fran is a bit of a blow... but I think Cris [Palacios] can fill that gap. We've seen her drop deep before and link up play, and with Hope [Peranio] and Cassie [Palacios, her sister] in the middle with her, she always seems more comfortable. The only danger is that we'd maybe have too much focus on attack, so I've been considering asking D'Antoni [Williams] to move up into a defensive midfield role, and switch to a three-man defence. Its something we did at times last season when we had injuries, so the ability is there."

The other Osarian teams in the Globe Cup are Trothwands Evolution and Grasshoppers Turic. Grasshoppers go straight in at the Qualifying Stage, which means they only need to win one tie to reach the group stage, and - as one of the most experienced and accomplished Osarian teams on an international level - will fancy their chances of reaching the group stage, whereas Trothwands Evolution's aging squad might face trouble. Trothwands captain Malachi Lubret dismissed any notion of nerves, though.

"There are no nerves. Whoever we get drawn against, the match won't be as important to the team and the fans as it is to beat the likes of Firewood City, who I think are probably better than most teams we could face in the Globe Cup Preliminaries, or as high pressure as playing in a cup final. We've done these things, and we've won. I don't see any reason why we'd be concerned about the Globe Cup draw. I can see some good teams in there, like Eldorado, who I think still have Sano, and Telecontare. I'm sure there are some teams from good footballing nations in there, but at the end of the day, we're a top 40 nation ourselves, and we have one of the thirty best leagues in the world. In that league, Trothwands consistently rank near the top. We'll go out there and give whoever a good fight... figuratively speaking, of course."

The road to the Globe Cup final will be long and hard, but there is an extra incentive for Osarian teams this time around, as the match will be played in The Cauldron. Firewood City's home stadium was selected as the final site and there would surely be nothing sweeter for Trothwands Evolution - for Malachi Lubret and Ashley Watson in particular - than to lift a UICA trophy in their rivals' stadium. There is also a reasonable chance, though, that Firewood City could be contesting the final of the Globe Cup. Should they drop down from the Champions Cup, you'd have to fancy them ahead of their countrymen (and women) to go all the way.

In other news, the transfer market is open again and the newswires are buzzing. Cymrwell FC have already rejected three offers for star midfielder Enrico Martelli, including big money from Firewood City, it is believed. Remy Bonriou has also stated his desire to remain with Violia FC on a permanent basis, perhaps in the wake of the signing of Babbage Islands international Tad Hollister last season and now the attempt for Martelli, Bonriou has resigned himself to no longer being in Willem Hamel's plans. It remains to be seen, however, whether Violia can afford the Firewood winger.

Other transfer rumours concern Wellmont United's star striker Omar Mohammed. It has been suggested that he is a target for Utica United. Our sources also tell us that Greeningham City are on the hunt for defenders, while Real Jraxville are hoping to reinforce their midfield, in the wake of three expected departures this month.

While the only goal Chun City scored was from a penalty from his injury as he was going to score. The doctors ahve said he broke his leg and won't return until 10 matches later. This has effected the team greatly because now they are in 7th.

This week, the Ko-oren Capitals again lost points, and even lost the match, against ABC. ABC, expected to only come in 6th-10th in the first division this year, proved to be exceptionally well against the bigger teams, whereas they can’t keep up against the smaller teams. Most matches ended 1-1 this week. There was, however, one big match this week: Katashi Blue – Telggen Darghem. The match ended in 1-0 for the Katashi team, after a typically well-played out attack. As all three of the big teams keep losing points this year, there might be a surprise from a smaller team. After all, this is only year one in Ko-oren professional football. Half way: ABC is beating everyone’s expectations by being first place, with only just one point difference with Ko-oren Capitals, who would like nothing more than proving that they are the one real team in Ko-oren. Third place is Alqonda Admirals, which they expected only a little, but they are just one point ahead of Katashi Blue, who need to pull theirselves together to try to get into the top 3. Fifth place, with one point less than Katashi Blue, and one point over Telggen, and two points above Alqonda United, are the Katashi Desert Eagles, who are eager to show that they are not weaker than the so-called best team of Katashi (Katashi Blue). In eighth, ninth and tenth place are three teams with twelve points: Zheiguang Islanders, West Fandar and Elinum State. Three teams who expected to be here anyway. But this promises to be a fun fight to watch. After all, the last 2 teams relegate. Currently last and second-to-last are Katashi Fighters and Zheiguang Showdown, with the latter having little chance to pull theirselves together.
