The Blue and Grey Rush

These past two matches are quintessential Auprussian wins. Away to Maritaine they started the scoring extremely early. Off of a great run of play Pardau found a long pass to Ven Pirennes who crosses it beautifully to a hard running Carafalxe Nithaire for the 1-0 lead in the 5th minute. Then in the 20th minute another beautiful long pass, this time by Trothaire deu Fornae-Saiy scrambled the defense enough so that when Ven Pirennes squares it back, Trothaire scores the second goal of the match with composure. Maritaine then starts to fight back a bit. In the 35th minute a miscommunication in the backline is severely punished by the Maritaine front line but Maritaine could not get a second before half time. Darrick Tephont made an impressive tackle to stop a counter-attack which got Perin De Ferrander hyped up to close out the half.

The next half the Auprussian defense, yes, the DEFENSE started to affect the game. Jean-Loc D'Irtellind had a very physical tackle that made the Maritaine players actively push him away with De Ferrander and Tephont coming in for him and pushing back, the referees separate the two sides but that was the tone of the second half. When Maritaine got on the counter a physical tackle by an Auprussian defender would deflate the attack and in a rare bit of counter-attacking prowess from Auprussia, they punish the overextension with a D'Irtellind run and cross to Huberdeau Audac, who makes it 3-1 in the 68th minute. Some more ineffective counters by Maritaine had barely inconvenienced the Auprussian defense until the 92nd minute when the game was all but decided. Maritaine got a corner and finally got a set-piece goal to get in to make it a 3-2 game at the end.

The next match against Rovenza was even crazier. At home in Parc d'Auprus the national team put on a clinic in how to attack a defense. in the 10th minute D'Irtellind makes an incisive run where the Rovenza defense has to at last try to stop his run but then he passes it to a trailing Fornae-Saiy who lifts the ball to Audac for the header to make it 1-0. 10 minutes later the incisive run comes from Ven Pirennes this time who burns a Ronvenza defender on the flank then gets around another to square it on for Ingalcer Pardau who takes a screamer of a shot and hits his mark to make it 2-0. The Auprussian commentators even remarked that the team had seemingly found their form but then were interrupted four minutes later when Pardau launches a long pass to Huberdeau Audac who heads it back down to Trothaire deu Fornae-Saiy who calmly slides it through to make it 3-0. By this time the stadium had erupted into a frenzy. The last goal Auprussia would score came late in the first half. A belligerent Perin De Ferrander makes a hard tackle and quickly gets the ball to Ingalcer Pardau, who runs like hell and lays the ball out to Ven Pirennes who in turn makes one more pass to Huberdeau Audac to finishes the chance neatly.

The next half was filled with the Auprussian defense attempting to stop the furious attacks by the Rovenza opposition. Destaire Obscaix and Roném D'Ithril-Sur Charmelle come on for D'Irtellind and Aregnac-Tignon to shore up the defense and they did so for a time. Destaire Obscaix had a couple of highlight tackles and the Auprussians looked to expand the lead but just couldn't finish their chances. Rovenza eventually got a free kick and managed to score off of it and they shored up the score by finally getting a goal in open play in the 85th minute. Albeit a dour ending for the defense, Auprussia comes away with the three points regardless.

Eleo Vicard was extremely satisfied with what he saw these past two matches. He had been stressing about how the team was going to play and how crucial this stretch was. For the next few matches they will return to the same lineup as before. Lithobert on the right and Bruta-Apollonoux starting instead of just rotating in to the lineup. These next matches are going to say a lot about this Auprussian team. Smallistan is an unranked and unknown team who has not been at its best...if there was a best. However, the match against Crpostran is where most will know if this team is for real or not. Vicard looks at the Crpostran scouting report and gets to work.

The Crpostran team runs a system which is in the Auprussian's wheelhouse. 4-3-3 attacking style and based on possession. Auprussia's tactics against such teams remain largely the same: Overwhelm them in open play and aggressively pressure them into giving the ball away. In open play directly attack hard and fast. Auprussia thrives in these types of matchups and Crpostran is the perfect team to test if their mettle against. the interesting matchups that arise from this are apparent: The frontline of Brisaxe-Gamblaife, Audac, and Lithobert against the Crpostran defense and both midfields' ability to keep the ball and attack from there. The midfields are interesting because they are...scarily similar. Two young midfielders backed up by a veteran stalwart but, one could argue Auprussia's midfield is slightly better in this regard and Pardau is more defensively oriented while Xavier Moreau is the attacker.

The Auprussian defense while letting in goals are no joke. This might be the most competent defense Auprussia has fielded in a long time and the goals conceded are more down to the system than the quality of players. Regardless, Jean-Loc D'Irtellind is a dangerous weapon against the Crpostran defense. His ability to make great attacking runs and great technical ability on the ball may prove to be an issue for that defense. A long with two very physical defenders thus far in Darrick Tephont and Perin De Ferrander plus a resurgent Propsierre Aregnac-Tignon they are the most important part of keeping this match within striking distance.

The venue for this affair is also notable. It will be played a Coeur De Sassen Alexia, the largest available venue for the qualifiers. The Crpostran team are going to walk into an very hostile Auprussian atmosphere as with the result of the past 3 matches and the very close loss to Paradystopia away the public are starting to believe this team can be more than what it was for the past couple of cycles. This may affect how Crpostran plays but that remains to be seen. What also seems to be a factor is Vicard's own confidence is starting to be built up back again. An admirable performance in the IAC and now with the qualifying cycle going the way it is...there may be hope after all.

World Cup 102: Cold Days Ahead

One little known quirk about Kamijiro is that despite its subtropical location, the country tends to get battered in winter. However, this generally comes in cycles: one year will be more temperate, the next will be brutal, so on. This year is a brutal year. What does that mean for Kamijiro's qualification run? Well, it means that the games played at home will now have a risk of high winds, freezing rain and snow. Despite this, the training camp remains upbeat. The defense has held up admirably, not conceding their first goal until matchday five against #3 Saint Eleanor, where they proceeded to give up three goals. But that came in a match where the attack also scored three, so a point was secured and the unbeaten run continued. In the match prior, a 1-0 victory over Central Esportiva, it was a goal from Akinari Akaminai late-on that saw the Lightning through.

Back to the weather at hand. The upcoming week in Kamijiro has forecasts as high as 31°C (88°F) and as low as -6°C (21°F). Naturally, the highest temperatures are found in the north of the country in Relâmpago, Porto (since the Lightning Isles can be found in the southern hemisphere) and the coldest can be found down south near Pwllheli in South St. Jerome. The national stadium is located on Jirō Island, which is forecasting for temperatures around 7°C (45°F) with an expectation of high winds and some sleet in the upcoming week.

When the country first settled by the original colonists, it was during a temperate year. The native Jirōans did warn them that the next winter would be very cold and a bit disgusting to be in, but they were dismissed. And then the famine hit the next winter. The Jirōans offered shelter and food, but with the agreement that the colonists would then go to the other island of Kami, which was generally uninhabited, since in Jirōan lore, Kami Island was the land of the gods. Historians believe that the native population was pretty much telling them to go be sacrifices to the gods. However, that didn't end up happening at all and Kami Island became a big attraction as a trade outpost for several colonial powers, leading to the current version of Kamijiro's departmental layout. Jirōans ended up mostly relocating to the north of Jirō Island and the rest of Jirō ended up being colonized later on.

THE NATION’S GOLDEN AGE IN FOOTBALL (1987-2002)

A beautiful goal from Sama FC’s Bilal Al Nuaimi, going into the top left corner after Bilal driblles past 3 defenders from Jebel Rahm on his own.
He even does it again, scoring a hatrick against Al Awlad and giving 2 assists.
Mansour Al Tamimi, goalkeeper for Matar FC, stops the ball from going into the goal after 7 attempted closeup shots that happened in less than a minute.
Ghaith Al Ali, playing for the national team, scores 2 goals against Iraq in a friendly tournament, and famously holds the Kuwaiti flag in response to the Gulf War and in respect to Kuwait, a close ally of Al Sahel.
Ghaith scores a bicycle kick in a friendly against Italy, although the team would go on to lose the match.
In 2000, Al Sahel wins a match against Japan in the AFC, going on to win the tournament.

Saheli fans, have faith… the Golden Age shall return one day!!!

Postby TJUN-ia » Tue Oct 13, 2026 10:17 am

After we set things right in some style, the Jaguars of TJUN-ia were back in the hunt for a spot at World Cup 102, and that was great! Honestly, it was nice to see us fight back from the hell we were in and make it back into the Top 3 mix...but things were far from over. Everyone knew that the battles ahead would potentially set the tone for the 2nd half of this process, and considering everything that was at stake, no one could be resting on anything right now...even Philip van Oosterend himself. Everyone just had to suit up and go to work no matter what...even if chaos is one step away.

Beregozera Stadium in Szensky was hungry for blood when the ancient force of Carpathia and Ruthenia came to the CSTO Zone, and you could tell from the off that this game was going to be...different. PvO knew it; Brelk-Xeral Erv knew it; the crowd knew it; the commentators knew it, and so did the whole world. This game was going to be something else entirely, and everyone knew it. What ended up happening was a back-and-forth so fierce and so ruthless that momentum seemed to be flipping like a coin every single minute. To make this swift, I will describe this game as such:
Tupu Hau Tapine, Zaira Addis, Clara Bassi, Andaya Wongsodimedjo. BREAK. Nur Syaliza Sazali, Bassi, Addis, Brígita Brull. END OF GAME.

That just about clears it all up. It was a mad game where a draw was fair enough, and so that was that...see you next time, C&R.

Then it was time to face an in-form United Adaikes side on the road in what everyone knew could be a huge letdown spot if we allowed it to happen. Leonel Nuñez had a good team at his disposal, one not afraid to be both attacking and defending whenever needed, and we knew we had to be on our best behaviour just to get a result out of these guys. It was hard going, certainly, and we could've blown this so many ways, but in the end, we just about got it done - a goal in the 49th from Sylvia Usabyimana being the only one we needed to get past Kennith Fitzroy to win it all.

With that, a well-earned Bye for all of us will lead into the end of the first half and a date with Masarya in Roi Ville...and then we will discuss where we are and what lies ahead.

GO JAGS!

One more game before a break. A dangerous time. On the one hand, considering the work that Esko Laaksonen's Huuhkajat have done thus far, a break is certainly deserved, and everyone would agree...but with one game left before the Bye, you don't want to relax and take your eyes off the ball. All you can do is deliver one final great performance...and only then can you rest. That would be our drive in this window - Työskentele Kovasti, Pelaa Kovasti.

And so we headed out to Agatha-Uidhobá in Sanna Agatha for a date with Airanninen, looking to keep ourselves in check before we can come home and relax. That was the ambition that drove us forward into a tight game, one where Pahól Rémenessa's Drills were throwing everything at us. Usi Sarván-Dendh and Colman Umuitau were certainly pests, keeping Shawn Maloney-Pohojnen busy, while Stergauce ja Dony were doing their best to keep us out of scoring. It was just one of those games where both teams played excellently, hoping the other made a mistake. That mistake would finally come up in the 65th, too much space given to Stephania Kexholm for her not to score...and that was that. A 1-0 win to take us into the bye top of the group.

Everything is heating up, and everyone can feel it. Safiloa and Krikill may be slightly behind in this battle for Top 3, but they are not to be underestimated at all. Not now, not ever.

DECISIVE VICTORY OVER SIOVANIJA!
Damian Weslom

The Steamers were back in Sernetesen for the clash against visitors Siovanija and Teusland. Seven Bridges was packed long before the match had started, with large swathes of the stands belonging to Sernetians, but substantial pockets of travelling fans here and there. The atmosphere was electrified from the very start.

Down on the pitch, the Steamers made sure to give the visitors a tough time from the moment the referee blew his whistle. After some back and forth, Sporius Bolsting scored a banger goal at the 17th minute from a cross by Zbigniew Komstrowski, sending goalkeeper Sepp Kranz the wrong way and the supporters into celebration. The guests would attempt to strike back shortly after; at the 24th minute Tomasz Pasarowski pulled off a hair-raising save, deflecting Wolf Wind's shot. The ball went loose but Stirius Mantrostem made sure nobody got it, wiring a long pass to Stefan Jatrowski. Jatrowski would later have his own shot on the goal from the corner of the box, but the ball landed on top of the net. Everyone feared an equaliser when Dominik Zoliba accidentally handballed the ball at the 34th minute while under pressure from a Siovanijan attack. The penalty was taken by Einar Hackl, and was saved beautifully by Pasarowski. Not long before half time, a clearance from Zoliba very nearly went into the goal by some miracle; keeper Kranz stopped it at the last moment.

Sernet came back into the second half with a few fresh legs; as both wingers were exhausted, Bob Yarisem came on for Jatrowski and Kilegram Dassaro swapped on for Stork. For a long time, it seemed as if the match would stay at 1-0 until at last a breakthrough by Bolsting at the 72nd minute brought the scoreline up, a powerful missile which weaved through the crowded box and straight into the back of the net. Everyone was delighted, and the chants of "Sernet is him" only got louder. The unexpected third goal came at the 87th minute in the closing stages of the game, with Urstof Langost scoring a header from a corner by Wasori Oluwawa bumping up the score to 3-0. Once the full-time whistle blew mere minutes later, a massive roar swept across the stadium. A decisive victory indeed, and Sernet takes all three points, reinforcing our lead over Group 7.

Final Score:
Sernet 3 -
0 Siovanija and Teusland
Goals:
Sernet: Komstrowski 17', Bolsting 72', Langost 87'

First ever all-Urseom NSWC match ends in triumph!
Bobby Boltings Senior

The trip to Vrasilistan's capital Ortender was already significant before a ball had been kicked. For the first time in history, two Urseomite nations were meeting in an NSWC fixture: Vrasilistan and Sernet, facing one another on the same planet in a competition spanning civilisations far beyond it. Yet here it was. Vrasilistan's National Stadium would be the setting of this landmark match, with the recently renovated Soapbricks Arena in Sernetesen set to host the second game between the two sides. The atmosphere carried a different weight from an ordinary qualifier. Vrasilistian supporters filled the stands with their light blue and green, determined to see their side claim a memorable victory, while the travelling Sernetians brought their familiar blue and orange flags and familiar chants to Ortender. After facing all of these faraway nations on distant, it felt strange to be playing a relative neighbour in a Nationstates World Cup match. For both nations, this was an opportunity to represent Urseom as a whole on the most prestigious stage there is. Yet for Sernet, the immediate task was clear: win away from home and strengthen the grip on Group 7.

The match had barely even begun and Sporius Bolsting had managed to slot a screamer goal past keeper Avlar Serano, a fellow Stronghold SFC player, at the 4th minute. The away stands erupted in joy, with everybody being unsure what to make of the early opener. However, it wouldn't be long before Vrasilistan responded; Siron Peltenal fed a corner to Jamal Vuranos, who headered it past Pasarowski, equalising the score at the 9th minute. It was obvious that this would be quite a tense standoff between two of Urseom's strongest footballing nations. Not even ten minutes had passed and already two goals had been scored. Vrasilistan came close to leading the match at the 16th minute when Enzoni Danahao fired a power shot in a bid to score, but Pasarowski saved the day with a masterful dive, not quite capturing it though. Simon Flumbraz tried to capitalise on the rebound but this time Pasarowski caught it. The Steamers would be the next to score; Komstrowski took a corner at the 23rd minute, and Wasori Oluwawa was there to blast it in. 2-1. At the 40th minute, Korolianus Stork came along and hammered the ball in for Sernet's third goal of the match, and so the two sides went into the break with Sernet two goals ahead.

The Steamers came back on eager to either build on the lead, while Vrasilistan were starting to look desparate to catch up. They started throwing men forward to get a goal, which they did at the 55th minute. Hotuñ Zilacansalo grabbed the ball from a pass by Peltenal, and tapped it in just out of Pasarowski's reach. Sernet were still one goal ahead, but the hosts were now back on their tails. They tried for an equaliser, but Stirius Mantrostem and Adam Doryszczykiewicz shut down their attempts; although at one point they nearly lost the ball and let it run loose, Salod Zerning was there to clear it into Vrasilistan's half. Stefan Jatrowski scored soon after from a cross by Wasori Oluwawa at the 62nd minute, bumping up the scoreline to 4-2 and raising Sernetian spirits even further.

By the closing stages, Sernet were firmly in control and hunting for a fifth. The stadium had become a curious mix of home frustration and visiting celebration: Vrasilistan's supporters kept urging their team on, while the travelling Sernetians were beginning to savour a remarkable away performance. An away performance in an interstellar tournament on their own planet. Interesting. The fifth would finally come at the 86th minute; Poltus Esingfort, who had recently switched on for Wasori Oluwawa, threaded a shot through the defence and past Serano's reach, confirming Sernet's victory. As soon as the whistle blew, everyone in the Sernetian Empire was over Sorenc. Jubilation. Five goals away from home, three more points, and a historic fixture won. Stoberus Pond and Don Swordsman congratulated the players, who then bowed in front of the stands, sparking a frenzy of celebration. 12 points on the table, still at first place.

Final Score:
Vrasilistan 2 - 5 Sernet
Goals:
Vrasilistan: Vuranos 9', Zilacansalo 55'
Sernet: Bolsting 4', Oluwawa 23', Stork 40', Jatrowski 62', Esingfort 86'

Sernet stay on top of the Group following our massive 3-0 and 5-2 wins, boosting our goal difference to a splendid +10. Next up is our bye day, but after that we face New Montreal States at home in Stensemertef. Starting lineup for the match is as follows: Tomasz Pasarowski in goal, with Stirius Mantrostem, Dominik Zoliba and Salod Zerning in defence, with Salod Zerning starting for injured Janusz Tworpowski. The 5-man midfield consists of Samir Dottman, Rami Alforez, Zbigniew Komstrowski, Korolianus Stork and Stefan Jatrowski. Up front we have Sporius Bolsting and Wasori Oluwawa, and as for the bench, Poltus Esingfort and Bartosz Głolin, among others, will likely be getting gametime. That's it for now, so to wherever in the Sernetian Empire you are, have a great day!

Guide for away fans: How to reach Gomswood Arena, Stensemertef

Welcome, NMS fans, to the wonderful country of Sernet! Thank you for visiting Sernet. You may find that our extensive rail network may be challenging to navigate, or that you can't seem to find where Sernetesen Lighthouse stadium is. This guide is designed to help you!

When you arrive at Sernetesen Storimidros International (we're assuming that's where you land), follow signage until you end up at the SMR station for whichever terminal you land at - for you lot its its likely to be Terminal 4. From here you have two options: take the slow SMR service down to Sernetesen, or take the fast Airline service to Sernetesen Arsenal. We'd recommend you take the Airline; it gets you from the airport to Sernetesen in just 15 minutes (a bit longer if catching it from Terminal 4) for a very slightly higher fare. Once at Sernetesen Arsenal, walk to the mainline platforms and board a train towards either Stensemertef Exchange or Stensemertef Towers, it doesn't really matter. You can take a service operated either by Sernet Rapid Express (SRX), the flagship high-speed operator of Sernet, or Northstar, another high-speed operator which serves Stensemertef. You could also take a slower semi-fast stopper service to Stensemertef, but we recommend you stick to the high-speed services available. Staff will be on duty to direct you should you be lost.

Stay on the train until either Stensemertef Exchange or Stensemertef Towers. From here, change to Stensemertef Metro and take any train that says it stops at Gomswood OR Gomswood Mainline. You can reach these stations from both Stensemertef Exchange or Stensemertef Towers. If you end up at Gomswood, there is a short 10-minute walk to the stadium; if you end up at Gomswood Mainline, the stadium is literally adjacent to the station and it will take you barely any time to reach it. Sernet has an abundance of public toilets should you need the loo. The trains on the Metro don't have toilets, but the high-speed trains do. Upon arrival at Stensemertef, you should find all the amenities you need; restaurants, cafes, shops, you name it. Free wifi is available at the airport, on the trains and at the stadium. If you wish to stay at a hotel, there are plenty relatively cheap but high quality hotels in Stensemertef (as well as some more luxurious ones). Staff will be at all mentioned stations and around the stadium to provide assistance. We hope this guide will allow you to navigate to your destination with ease. Enjoy stay in Stensemertef, the second largest city in Sernet. Have fun!

Dismay As Dantopia Drop Yet More Points In World Cup Qualifiers
By Henry Vinagre
ORLISS, SOLGAVDEN — Dantopia's national team continue to disappoint following a draw against Krotogo and a loss against Solgavden. Rick Bishop's men now find themselves languishing in fifth place in Group 16, eight points adrift from the top spot, which is the only guaranteed qualifying spot for World Cup 102. A top finish isn't completely impossible from this point, but even clambering back up to second place in the table — which would allow the 'Lions' to at least contest in a play-off match — seems dishearteningly unlikely at this stage.

The Lions' home draw against Krotogo got off to a thrilling start, when Bradini Brunson managed to catch Paülïn Rişta out, pilfering the ball away from the defender to snatch an early lead for the hosts. An encouraged crowd roared with excitement following the Lion City FC forward's smart finish past Şïony Ölivar. However, the early Lions lead would be snuffed out before the end of the first half, when Matoë Miniviç thundered home from just inside the box, leading to a raucous reception from the travelling faithful. The two sides would remain level heading into the half-time interval.

Following the break, Rick Bishop's men looked to crack on with their efforts to regain form, and a Clayton Thorpe effort from outside the box looked destined for the top corner, were it not for the acrobatic expertise of the Krotogan keeper. Several chances for the visitors would break the way of their striker Şalin Prezïnca, but the forward was not able to best Rigobert Moses for the time being. Manager Rick Bishop would opt to refresh the Dantopian side, bringing on Elleby Young, Negan Nakoa and Zaïre Thomas.

Nakoa didn't get much of a sniff in front of goal, but substitute Young would be able to help thread a pass through to his midfield partner Clayton Thorpe, who only had one defender to beat before taking advantage of his opportunity to put the Lions up 2-1. Desperate to secure the win, Rick Bishop actually then took off the nineteen-year-old goalscorer to bring on an extra defender. However, the imbalance of the side led to a flurry of chances for the opposition, and they would soon capitalise.

With fifteen minutes left to play, a tiring Şalin Prezïnca would have surely been getting ready to be replaced by Artendriç Hendribala, but the ball fell to the forward following a defensive breakdown and Prezïnca would have plenty of time and space to open up for a shot on goal, one that successfully evaded the clutches of Moses in net and secured the draw for the visiting side. Krotogo would defend their box diligently up until the end of the match and claim the important point on the road for their own qualification hopes — albeit unlikely ones at this point.

A stronger starting eleven would then be played in the following fixture against Solgavden. Mainstays Ezra Cunningham, Sam Robinson-Tate and Jeremiah Taramaia would return to the fold, though to say the performance was lacking from the Lions against 'De Rega Röda' would be an understatement. The Solgavs would dominate the encounter from the off, similarly to how the Tanirinthians controlled proceedings against Dantopia in match-day two.

Kristian Tennefjord would grab a brace against the Dantopian back-line, who looked hapless and disjointed throughout, much to the dismay of the travelling Dantopian supporters. The Solgavs were clearly taking advantage of their home advantage, but the poor level at which the Dantopians attempted to play at felt sluggish and reminiscent more of a pre-season friendly than a competitive international qualifier. Rick Bishop's changes didn't seem to help all that much either.

De Rega Röda simply took full advantage of their impressive streak of form of late. Two wins on the bounce against Loyo and Krotogo would become three against the Lions, with their first game only being a narrow 1-0 loss to Tanirinthia. In comparison, the Dantopian national team have flattered to deceive early on. What looked to be a good chance of qualifying on paper has very much not come to fruition. Rick Bishop finds himself at a crossroads. Does he trust the players that helped him secure a Round of 16 finish at the last World Cup, or does he change course and try something different in an attempt to turn around this torrid form?

With the pressure very much now on the national team manager and his squad, the following home fixture against Aamathyr — following a bye in match-day six — will be of the upmost importance for Dantopia's hopes of qualification to World Cup 102. The Lions already find themselves in a massive hole, with just over half of the fixtures remaining. A comeback is certainly possible but judging by the form in which both Tanirinthia and Loyo are playing, and even the impressive run from Solgavden of late, climbing up the Group 16 table seems like it will be an increasingly tricky affair.

Expected Line-up — MD7 vs. Aamathyr:
Starting Eleven:
GKP: 1. Alex Bullvale
DEF: 5. Dalton O'Higgins — 2. Sam Robinson-Tate — 4. Keegan Foster — 3. Kaleb Kahananui

With one's head held high

After a very, very poor start to the WC (losing 1–2 to Strayroos and 0–2 to Choppyhausen), the Germanic Cat squad was devastated.

That was when this conversation took place:

Hause (8): Guys, we can't go out like this. It’s a disgrace to our country.

Tiberius (4): But our rivals are much better than us. We won't be able to beat anyone.

Hause (8): And who says we can't?

...

End of conversation.

But that—that sparked a change in the players.

And what if...?

THE VICTORY (Darkmania)

Formation

Germanic Cat uses a 4-3-2-1 formation.

GK: SÜTER (1)

DFC (FROM LEFT TO RIGHT): SCHWANBERGER (3) - DIETRICH (2) - ASSARAH (6) - TIBERIUS (4) (C)

MCD: KRAMER (5) - HAASE (8) - KRÜGER (7)

MCO: WEISS (18) - MOLL (19)

ST: ENGELHARDT (9)

Leading up to the match, there was a bit of fear. Facing near-elimination—and in front of their own fans—was something they wanted to avoid. The players take the field... OPENING WHISTLE! The match is underway, ladies and gentlemen.

Quick Match resume

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FIRST TIME
0'- Match Starts. Darkmania kicks off.
12'- After a brilliant individual play by Weiss, he lays the ball off to Engelhardt, who scores! But... he was offside.
22' - The darkmanian forward fires a long-range shot that grazes the crossbar—a warning shot.
44' - Two minutes are added.
45+2' - End of the first time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SECOND TIME

45' - It starts! Germanic Cat kicks off.

51' - Schwanberger starts from behind the halfway line, reaches the corner, and sends a cross to Weiss's head; Weiss connects well and aims accurately, but the shot is saved by the goalkeeper.

59' - Weiss takes the corner toward the edge of the box, Haase hits it first-time and... SMASHES IT IN! Goal for Germanic Cat! 1-0.

G O A L ! - 59' Haase (8). Goals scored: 1.

67' - Weak shot by Engelhardt.

74' - A dangerous cross from Weiss to the far post that curls inward and... did it hit a hand? VAR will intervene. FINAL DECISION: No handball — Goal kick.

89' - 3 minutes are added.

90+2' - Darkmania suddenly springs into action and charges straight for the goal. A great save by Süter sends the ball out for a corner.

90+3' - All the Darkmanian players move up, even the goalkeeper. The cross is good, but the defense clears it. The ball falls to Weiss—who has had a great match today—and he decides to shoot from midfield. With the goalkeeper out of position, it’s a goal for Germanic Cat. Goal! 2-0.

G O A L ! - 90+3' Weiss (18). Goals scored: 1.

90+3' - Final whistle.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AFTER MATCH
The Germanic Cat players collapse onto the floor, exhausted but happy. They secured a victory for Germanic Cat that puts them ahead of Darkmania and the Marnack Confederacy. A huge achievement.
(The victory is all down to Haase. If he hadn't struck up that conversation, who knows what would have happened?)
GCNTV Sports Interview
Reporter: Well, Weiss, you were the Man of the Match with an assist, a goal, and a rating of 9.4. Anything to say?
Weiss (18): Well, not really. I think the credit goes mostly to the whole team—to the work Krüger, Otto (Haase), and Cosmo (Kramer) did in containing the opposing forwards and midfielders, and all that. I’d also like to send a shout-out to my parents, my family, and my kids who are watching the match from Gerberlania. Thanks.
Reporter: No, thank you. That was Weiss, for GCNTV Sports (Germanic Cat National TeleVision Sports).
(I don't know if it needs to be said that Weiss is modest)
Draw, then Defeat.
A 2-2 draw with Paradystopia followed by a close 4-2 defeat by Auprussia were the latest results in Rovenza’s quest to participate at the World Cup 102. David Alfrederick stated the team’s performances were moving quicker than their results, and he said that the results did not accurately portray the performances.
Match Report 1: Paradystopia
A 2-2 draw was probably a fair representation of the result. The game started quickly, with a Rovenzan attack just 37 seconds after kick-off resulting in the need for a quick reflex save to send it behind for a corner. In the first ten minutes, both sides had many chances to score and the score probably should have been 2-2 already. Then, at 26 minutes, Ivan Torris broke the deadlock after a beautiful through-ball from Zachary Arnolds, the shot being smashed into the bottom right corner. Paradystopia responded almost immediately, with a quick counter-attack at 28 minutes making it 1-1 again. At half time, the two teams who frozen together. Alexander Soțh was brought off for Zayne Ugetha in the 54th minute, and Alex Wilan was also brought on. At 62 minutes, an incredible curling forwards cross by Wilan met a sliding Ugetha and the ball bounced into the net. 2-1 Rovenza! Rovenza seemed content with this narrow lead and retreated, allowing Paradystopia to build more and more pressure, with chances at 78, 82, and 86 minutes only narrowly missing the back of the net. Eventually, at 90+3 minutes, an incredible corner was met by a powerful header as it went past Yorkel and it into the back of the net. 2-2.
Match Report 2: Auprussia
With the score being 4-0 at one point to Auprussia, many would assume that Auprussia dominated the game and thrashed Rovenza. That was not the case. Again, Rovenza started quickly, with a quick attack almost stunning Auprussia, and resulting in the final shot hitting the underside of the crossbar and falling out unluckily. A defensive miscommunication at 10 minutes lead to Rovenza trailing 1-0. Rovenza almost responded immediately, with an attack lead by Arnolds resulting in the shot being sent narrowly wide by Soțh. Two clear chances that should have been put away. Auprussia carried on piling pressure, just as Rovenza were doing. At 20 minutes, the Rovenzan defence were on fire and almost cooked the Auprussian attack before another miscommunication allowed another goal to make it 2-0. At 23 minutes, Rovenza quickly sent a long ball from Igerson to Quinya, who then crossed it in to Soțh who fired it in to the bottom corner and make it 2-1 and bring Rovenza back into the game. That lasted 8 seconds, until the offside flag was raised. The Rovenzan players were arguing, and the referee suddenly restarted play, which caught them off guard and suddenly it was 3-0 Auprussia. Rovenza carried on fighting, and a flurry of chances missed kept the game at 3-0. Later in the half, a quick Auprussian counter-attack showed the opposition’s skill and it was 4-0. A scoreline that didn’t represent the game. In the second half, Rovenza carried on fighting valiantly, nearly bringing one back when Ugetha smashed the ball over the bar from six yards. Auprussia had chances too, but in the minority. An Auprussian player nearly took out Arnolds from the halfway line and Rovenza won a freekick. Arnolds took it, and curled it beautifully into the top right corner, all the way from the halfway line. Finally, a goal! In the 85th minute, an incredible nutmeg from Wilan, lead to an incredible cross to Arnolds, who then squared it past the keeper to Ugetha, who tapped it in. 4-2. 4-2 was certainly more representative than 4-0, even if the Auprussians feel like their performance was impeccable. Rovenza deserved a draw out of that match.
Post-Match Analysis
Richard Elfwick: Hello again! It’s been a draw and a defeat since we last spoke. Your opinion, Xander?
Xander Harrison: Well, it hasn’t been a bad performance overall. Of course the game against Paradystopia we only failed to win because of that late goal, and against Auprussia, I think we deserved a draw. Our performances are up there, but the results aren’t catching up.
Richard Elfwick: I see. And the Ugetha-Wilan partnership is kind of cooking, yeah?
Xander Harrison: Definitely. I don’t know how two teenagers can have such good chemistry, but they can be the defining figures. Sometimes Rovenza rely on them too much. But if we need some energy, bring them two on, and energy is guaranteed. Goals will probably come- but let’s not put too much pressure on them.
Richard Elfwick: Five points away from third-place. Is that worrying?
Xander Harrison: Well, I guess it kind of is. Many teams see us as the ‘easier side’, which is worrying in itself. But seen as anyone below third are automatically eliminated, we need to be aiming higher. I don’t care that it’s our first world cup cycle. We have the talent. It is a marathon, not a sprint though.
Richard Elfwick: Now time to welcome the man himself, David Alfrederick! David, how is Rovenza performing?
David Alfrederick: Our performances are actually pretty good. It’s just the results that aren’t coming. The Rovenzan Way can be successful, and we are showing the other nations just how much it can be.
Richard Elfwick: What are your chances of qualifying?
David Alfrederick: I have hope in my players. We can do this. We have the talent, chemistry and mindset to achieve it. We can do it, and we all believe it.
Richard Elfwick: And what about the Ugetha-Wilan partnership? They are kinda cooking, aren’t they?
David Alfrederick: *chuckles* Yeah, they really are. Whenever we need some energy, I bring them on and energy levels seem to rise immediately. They can score, and help the overall performance. They’re performing way above their age, but I do have to be careful on how much I use them.
Richard Elfwick: Right, then. Come on Rovenza!
Come on The Emeralds!
Rïnsadïl Graju Ničïh Četadu Čahtaca
Knee Injury Sidelines Ničïh
Hafamari football fans’ biggest concern unfortunately came true in the 62nd minute of today’s World Cup 102 match. Polkopia’s Milo Stankov took a wild leap towards the ball while it was in star player Sït Ničïh’s possession, Stankov’s foot connecting with Ničïh’s knee rather than the ball. This was the same knee Ničïh reinjured during IAC 26. Stankov would be shown a yellow card, an unpopular decision in the Arena Hïdöjavjë, with many players and fans alike calling for a red card.
“He went straight for the kneecap,” head coach Desudran Sïlmana said in a post-game interview. “It’s unacceptable that the World Cup officials would look at that and not see he clearly was aiming right at it. My captain is out for at least the rest of this game, maybe more, and all [Stankov] gets is a warning? This doesn’t sit right with me.”
Protestations aside, the decision of the referees was final, with Stankov remaining on the field after the incident. The game must go on, so Ničïh’s replacement Doman Dezbänetka was brought out for the penalty kick, which he managed to convert into the team’s first goal of the match. Still trailing Polkopia 2-1, the energy from that goal carried him into another goal a few short minutes later, tying the score. Unfortunately, the momentum slowed slightly from there, and the final score was a 2-2 draw.
Dezbänetka is already confirmed to start in at least the next game against Kwrpania, and there are rumors of him replacing Ničïh for at least the remainder of the group matches, though these rumors currently remain unconfirmed pending further announcements on Ničïh’s prognosis. There is a sense of optimism, however, given Dezbänetka’s two rapidfire goals in addition to his growing record in the domestic league.
“He’s a very strong player,” coach Sïlmana says, “very exciting, very energetic. I’m hopeful his presence will serve to inspire the rest of the team as well.”
Opinion: Loss Against Kwrpania Proves Team Can Put Up a Fight
With the absence of captain Sït Ničïh, many were extremely concerned about the team’s appearance against 20th-ranked Kwrpania. And yes, to be fair, we did lose the game. But I think we need to take a second to get past the doom-and-gloom I’ve seen a lot of people wallowing in, and here’s why.
The game against Kwrpania was never going to go our way even if Ničïh hadn’t been taken out (and I’ll give it to you all, yes, that should have been a red card). We don’t exactly have the strongest record in the World Cup, and Kwrpania basically does. They lead our group undefeated. Sorry to Mr. Ničïh, but even at his top form I don’t think he would have been able to pull out a win.
However! It was a close game! We have to consider the fact that we scored twice against a team who had only allowed four other goals against them so far this tournament. And we only allowed them to score three. Of course I would have preferred two, or even just one, but three goals out of their record of twelve so far tells me it could have been a lot worse.
Honestly I have to give a shout out to Gïščuk in goal. He was at peak performance. If you need proof, watch his miraculous saves at 17:31 and 89:04. This game could have been a blowout, and he really stopped that from happening.
Another thing we need to remember is that we’re not even halfway through this yet. There’s still a lot of time for things to turn around, and I think once Dezbänetka (another candidate for MVP of that game after his header in the second half) gets a little more comfortable being a starter, you’ll see us really take off. He’s young, but he does have experience bringing underdogs to a championship. Remember this time last year when we all were making jokes about FC Ïmduha? Yeah, we’re not laughing anymore, are we?
One last thing: the team needs our support. Yeah we’re underdogs, yeah we’re down our star player for the rest of the World Cup, yeah we have room for improvement. But if the team doesn’t think we as fans believe in them, how do we expect them to believe in themselves?
–The above is an opinion piece written by Vemëjas Köndačuk and does not reflect any official opinions, beliefs, or positions of TVH or TVH Sport as organizations, or of any individuals officially affiliated with either organization.
After years of renovation work followed by a few more years of renovation work, the Choppingen Art Gallery has finally reopened its doors to the public. The gallery, now located in an entirely new, modern building in the heart of Choppyhausen's capital, houses the largest collection of modern art in Choppyhausen and displays many works by the nation's great artists such as Clemens Sodiér or Frederike Hohenweg.
So, please, follow me inside and enjoy the sight of some of Choppyhausen's greatest works of art.
Image
Manuel Kreutz
Artwork #17
2042, Print
The meaning of this new artwork by abstract artist Manuel Kreutz is controversial among experts. Some say it shows Kreutz' living room (maybe from a birds-eye view), some say it's a symbolism for the complex feelings King Klemens I went through before he unified the seven kingdoms of Choppyhausen and others say, it might depict Nico Lauritz' winning goal in the 5-4 against Indusse at the WC101 qualifiers. Whatever the meaning is, everyone agrees that it's most certainly a masterpiece.
Image
Paul Karpfenhaim
Vastonburg Main Station
1889, Oil on canvas
This painting by Paul Karpfenhaim marks the end of the naturalistic phase of Choppyhausenian art, during which artists focused primarily on landscapes and animal depictions. Instead, Karpfenhaim and his friends primarily painted scenes from their hometown of Vastonburg, such as the main train station depicted here. Karpfenhaim was known to be a perfectionist: to this day, there are 57 known variations of this particular painting, as well as 10 charcoal drawings.
Various Artists
Collection of International Artwork
2018-2024, Print(?)
The Choppingen Art Gallery is home to Choppyhausen's only collection of International Artwork and it is a big one. Over three thousand artworks have been accumulated by the curators of the gallery. The new gallery building has its own wing dedicated to these works from foreign nations which houses artworks from different seasons and regions throughout time and space.
Obviously, only the finest of artworks are on public display but once a month you can book a tour through the gallery's otherwise non-public basements to admire collections that are otherwise hidden from the public eye such as the nearly two thousand artworks in the priced "A different Regional Collection".
The International Artwork exhibition is constantly being remodeled and expanded, and the gallery always accepts gifts from other nations at any time. (subtle hint, I know)
Image
Clemens Sodiér
Pier in Bansin
1837, Oil on canvas
This innocent looking painting showing a peaceful scene at the Choppyhausenian coast was actually highly controversial when Sodiér painted it in 1837. The reason? In the middle of the painting, Sodiér depicted the unified Choppyhausen flag. While that was a common sight in his home region of Tarnau who was leading the unification wars at the time, in Vastona, where this painting is situated, it was rather close to treason and alledgedly one of the reason why the painter never actually visited the location he was painting.
Image
Prof. Evelin Beck et al.
Choppingen Art Gallery
2043, Acrylic on canvas
This painting was unveiled at the gallery's reopening and pictures the northern side of the new gallery building. It was made by a group of students at the Choppingen University of Arts (CUA) under the helm of Prof. Evelin Beck and given to the Art Gallery as a gift by the university. The CUA was one of the largest contributors to the gallery's renovation; after all, many of its graduates are planning (or dreaming) to exhibit their work there.
With this painting, the group tried to recreate the style of great Choppyhausenian artist Frederike Hohenweg by meticulously analyzing her works and then imitating her brush strokes and colors. The professor received 10,000₦ for her opening "gift" by the gallery. The students all got a B.
The Central Chronicle
---------------------------
Pair Play Pitched for Playoff
Choppyhausen 0-2 Saperetia
Despite losing to StrayaRoos, many fans hoped a bounceback was possible in the next match against the most important opponent yet. With the draw against Eshialand, it meant that if a battle for the playoffs would occur, it would most likely be against third seeds Choppyhausen, who we were off to face in this matchday. The team prepared itself for the opponent while they prepared through trying to prevent any shenanigans similar to the Bellvale incident from occurring here, mainly though banning the ability to bring vehicles into the stadium. Not only meant this that the "bus strategy" was off the table again (unless Silivia was incredibly imaginative again), it meant the players had their warm up before even entering the locker room. Speaking of the manager, he was found after the match against StrayaRoos on the grounds of The Nationals Ground, and he claimed that he was arrested by Eshian authorities after that match and kept captive to punish the team for their strategy in Bellvale. On their part, Eshian authorities claimed this was untrue and that he was just going mad. He was able to still get to Choppyhausen before the match began and would lead the team into this battle. The Irstria Football Stadium was brimming with fans hoping to see the playoff picture decided here as the SAP 2-3-6 lined up against the CPH 4-2-3-1:
Saperetia: DEF Carloza, Simmage MID Sarri, Gil, Shah ATK Hardin, Jacques (C), Seppel, Kauko, Seppo, Jean-Marie
Choppyhausen: TBA
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." That rule seems to go out the window whenever the Crimsonites come to play, because you can bet that when their defence is weakened, it is not because they forgot to strengthen it, but it is because their goalkeeper has been replaced with their National Team Bus. This was best shown during this match, as when the Saperetian team sheet came out, officials immediately investigated the pitch for any traces of a bus. And indeed, they found one in front of one of the goals. They immediately raised a protest with Silivia due to the new Choppyhausenian rule about vehicles and stadiums, but he explained that indeed this rule was new, and the vehicle was in the stadium before said rule went into effect, and therefore he was innocent. When then asked how he came to the stadium in the team bus and then had it into the stadium before the rule went into effect, Silivia simply asked "are you sure that those two busses are the same?" and as the officials could not prove that, they had to let the matter go. After the cointoss, which Jacques narrowly won, else the bus strategy would have backfired, the teams lined up to kick the match off. Despite initial attempts to somehow get the ball past the bus anyway, the Team in Teal had to take to defending as they realized that there was no way past the bus. They subsequently amended their strategy to defend until half time, then take the bus advantage for themselves while scoring more than the Saperetians did in the first half. The Crimsonites meanwhile took to trying to score as many goals as they could in the time before sides were switched. For a good team, this would be multiple goals in one half, but for a team which has never scored more than 4 in 90 minutes, this could be quite tricky. And indeed it was as the crimson tried to get past the defenders, but the home side, pushed on by their supporters, managed to hold off most of their attacks. It would also have helped that when an attacker finally came through, the ball wouldn't have made an attempt to go out of the park. It would finally be the corners that would give the best chances, because as it turns out, it is very hard to hit a ball past row 10 with your head. Unfortunately, due to an oversight on the managerial staff, neither of the two designated corner kickers were out on the pitch, and as such, the role went to whoever happened to be closest to the corner flag when the ball went out. This led to some good crosses, and many bad ones. But it would require only one good corner to swing the match open as Jacques swung one out that saw Kauko head it in past the goalie to give the Sapertians the lead nine minutes before the sides switched. The Choppyhausians held on for the remaining time to prevent their second-half task from becoming even harder, successfully holding the crimson tide to only 1-0 at the break. Both teams headed off, one team dreaming of what they would do with the advantage they were about to get and the other dreading the prospect of playing against their own tricks. Unfortunately for one team and fortunately for the other, nobody had taken it upon themselves to protect the bus during the break, so while both managers were in the changing rooms talking tactics, Dirtwizard (the Saperetian 2nd or 3rd goalkeeper, depending on who you ask) went out to "warm himself up" before stepping into the bus and moving it to the other side. So instead of the roles reversing, the roles would be kept the same for another 45 minutes. Silivia made the changes of bringing off Kauko and Simmage for Camilo and Anatoliv, to bring the two corner takers on the pitch to hopefully increase the chances on goal. In the beginning this did not work as the new subs were not warmed up yet, and the Team in Teal disrupted the crimson attack by making attempts at goal anyway despite the bus. If they could not beat the strategy, they could try to prevent it from getting another goal. It worked in the beginning as the Saperetians overcommitted to attacks and had to head back to their own box to pick up the ball, but they eventually just left Carloza (acting as goalkeeper aswell) there to counter that strategy. This increased the amount of attacks that could be performed but it did not magically improve the ability of the Crimsonites to finish said attacks. Silivia told his men to focus on the corners, which had worked previously in the match, but the Choppyhausians simply heard his command and then constantly prevented the ball from going out over the goal line, instead hitting it out over the side, which due to the lack of a Saperetian who was good at throwing the ball far, meant they had to try and cross it from the side while defenders were charging in. As fatigue set in, Silivia used his final substitutes to take off tired players for fresh ones, hoping that a fresh player could break through the defence. He swapped out Gil for Nord ('68), Sarri for Inget ('71), and Carloza for Hranislav ('76), as as it turns out, a goalkeeper is probably your best bet for getting the ball somewhere forwards. Despite his best attempts, Silivia's tactics would not be what gave the crimson their second. Instead, it would be those of their opponent, as in their attempts to prevent the ball from going out, one defender accidentally put it back into the box where Seppel stood, who promptly shot it in for close range. The final seven minutes were spent by the Crimsonites attempting to score more, but failing on every attempt, with the match finishing as another 0-2.
While our fans were satisfied with the result, others were not amused by the antics of the team. Teal fans attempted to block the Saperetian bus from leaving the stadium, but were surprised to find it already outside, before realizing that it was simultaneously on the pitch and outside the stadium, meaning that the Saperetians had discovered simultaneous teleportation and cloning. That or there were just two busses. Normally that would be a satisfactory explanation, but conspiracy theories began floating around about how the SFF had not been punished nor made any inflammatory statements yet. While this was happening, elsewhere the Saperetian team was heading back home to prepare for their next match against Germanic Cat, one which they had much difficulty with two cycles ago, losing the first 4-2 during the worst losing streak in the team's history, but winning the return fixture 4-0. A victory could be crucial in taking advantage of the gap to Choppyhausen to secure a good position for the second half of the qualifiers. This would be made a bit harder as Silivia went missing again after the match, and noone on the team was able to contact him. Luckily, he had left instructions with his assistants for exactly such a scenario, so Jonasson knows exactly what tactics to apply next match. If he can adapt them on the fly if they go wrong is another question.
Bus Badness Befalls Band
Saperetia 1-1 Germanic Cat
As the exhileration of the win over Choppyhausen subsided, fans looked ahead at the next match, at home against another familiar opponents: Germanic Cat, who had been in the same qualifying goup as the Saperetians in the qualifiers for the centennial edition. Back then, a 4-2 loss and 4-0 victory meant the two teams split the points, and fans were hoping that more points will be gotten from the matchups this time, especially with the draw and win over higher ranked nations that the team already has in their pocket in this edition. Quite a bit of the Saperetian squad was there when the two teams faced off last time. All the starters were the ones who had played all 180 minutes of the two teams, with Seppel and Seppo both scoring two goals, one during each game, and Jacques and Gil each netting one during the victory. The main thing that was different about those two games and this one was who was at the helm: Then it was Silivia. Now he was... somewhere, and nobody knew where, but everyone knew where it was not, namely the sidelines of the match. All fans did hope that this little change wouldn't make all the difference, and they flocked to The Nationals Ground where tehy saw the SAP 4-3-3 line up against the GCT 4-2-1-2-1:
Saperetia: GK Dirtwizard DEF O'Connel, Simon, Damjan, Simmage MID Hardin, Inget, Nord ATK Jacques, Seppel, Seppo
Germanic Cat: GK Süter DEF Schwanberger, Assarah, Tiberius (C), Dietrich MID-DEF Krüger, Kramer MID Haase MID-ATK Nowak, Marquardt ATK Engelhardt
Despite the theoretical advantage that the crimson had, the first quarter of the match saw Germanic Cat on the constant attack. Fans hoped that this was a tactic from Silivia and not one that Jonasson came up with himself. That feeling changed in about the twentieth minute as a mistake by O'Connel saw Marquardt bypass him into empty space before sending a cross that saw Engelhardt put it past a flailing Dirtwizard. With the conceded goal, many fans were now hoping that this was one of Jonasson's own tactics and not one that Silivia gave to him. This mistake had little impact on the defensive line as a whole, but had a big one on O'Connel, who was playing with his mind in a different place, leading to a subsequent substitution just half an hour into the match as Abdelkader came on. After this, the defensive line held firm for the rest of the half, but it was now the midfield was sending balls wayward. The few passes that did come to attackers also went wayward, but that was standard practice for the front three. Jacques came up with an idea to try and cross the ball into the box as corners and headers had worked last match, but while his crosses were accurate, Seppel and Seppo either sent the ball completely over or straight at Süter, who easily grabbed them and then sent the Germanic Cat team forward in an attempt to counterattack. This status-quo remained in place as the referee blew the whistle to end the dismal first half. While Silivia was known in his early tenure to sometimes make the team play worse after a team-talk, Jonasson was relatively untested with speaking to the team. Luckily for the fans, the team did not immediately collapse once the second half began, as a fresh Camilo and Gil helped to stabalise the wayward balls to fly forwards instead of sidewards. This led to more chances for the attackers to miss it. It would eventually be Jacques, who had been mainly crossing the balls, that stepped up and did not cross for once and finally passed Süter after passing the defenders who assumed he would cross it. This left seventeen minutes where both sides were counterattacking from box to box, but neither team managed to secure a final goal to win the three points from the match.
With the draw against an opponent we should theoretically be beating, questions arose from fans and pundits alike as to what caused this. Jonasson explained that he believed that Silivia had "a good feeling as to how the team should work", something that none of the assistants could replicate. he believed that "external parties" were trying to influence the Saperetian team and its' chances for qualification. Some fans and pundits were sceptical of such a conspiracy, and rather believed that the team had relied too much on the bus in the matches against Eshialand and Choppyhausen and that they were now "forgetting how to play football", pointing out that mistakes that the players had made during this match were not present in the matchup against the Marnack Confederacy before the bus strategy was re-introduced on the pitch. Whether there was a conspiracy or not, the Ministry of Sport was urging for an investigation into whereever Silivia was. If he was just skipping the matches and blaming it on other nations, that would be more than enough to give him the sack. If he was telling the truth that there was someone keeping him against his will, then depending on who it was, there may not be a reason to keep to the few rules that remain standing.
The SAS Column
After hopping around a couple of the players who were "mostly benchwarmers" or "entirely benchwarmers", we now head to the first two starters in our rankings. Not particularly good starters, but still. Starters.
#02 Benjámin Celso (CB)
Caps: 31 (2), Clean Sheets: 11
Excluding injured players, Celso is the started with the least minutes. Including injured players, he has the least amount of clean sheets, tied with right-back Achille. Not a great look for a defender. Even worse, he is only one start ahead of Titus and tied with Achille, both of whom were injured at some point. And the stat for which people remember him the most: He has half of all Crimsonite yellow cards in this period (4/8), including one after a foul on Zezo in the 36th minute of the debut game. He found himself being on the bench a couple times, when Pascal would take over his role. During these games, the defence looked stronger then ever. Although, we have to mention that Celso did take part in some of the toughest games. We can stuff him (and the rest of the defence) up for allowing three from New Portland Republic. We won't stuff it for any defender for allowing four, twice, against then rank 1 Valanora, who outscored us 8-3. The only three teams which even scored half as many goals as them against us were Abanhfleft (7-1, helped by a 5-0 demolition derby), Estorvipa and Estorpiva (5-3), and Patriotlandia (4-1, although over 3 games instead of 2 like the rest, including a knockout extra time goal). The only team we even put 4 up against were Aeragny/(Airannia) (4-2, BoF and CoH). Some of these drubbings work in favour of Celso, some against. But his performance in the other games was also lacking, with that being the main reason we have given him the C rank.
#20 Bryant Achille (RB)
Caps: 31 (0), Clean Sheets: 11
Achille has the least minutes of any starter. He managed to injure himself while passing and was out for three games right in the middle of the good run in the Baptism of Fire, returning right for the 2-3 loss to New Portland Republic. Perhaps he was a bit rusty, as results did improve from a 2-3 loss to an 0-1 loss to an 0-1 extra time loss (although he was subbed off in that last one at half-time). He would continue to be a regular presence in the defence, sometimes holding higher-ranked teams to 0, sometimes letting our fellow BoF graduates put multiple past Yakim. Would he have been there for the latter part of that BoF, he could have taken quite a jump higher by taking credit for a few fantastic games. Instead, he watched on from the sidelines as Eugene held opponents to 0, and even once, during the 2-2 draw against Estorvipa and Estorpiva, had to watch as his substitute scored a '90+7 header to draw against an opponent more than double up the rankings. At best, a mediocre player who did what was required. At worst, it would've been better to use the backup. You cannot really give him any rank higher than a C.
We finally head up front to the final group of players we have not yet visited: the forwards.
#33 Kevin Titus (RW)
Caps: 30 (1), Goals: 2, Assists: 3
Titus had a lackluster output during the Baptism of Fire. Despite only missing one half of a match, he was relatively invisible during this period. He was there, always passing and just... existing, getting one forgettable assist, and letting himself get fouled which drew a yellow for Soumare from Al-Tamazgha.
He did come into the WCQ and did leave a mark, as after being invisible during the opening fixture against Patriotlandia, he assisted Antoon through a cross in an 0-1 victory, the first of the qualifiers. At the end of the first half of the next match, a 1-3 loss to Estorvipa and Estorpiva, a tackle from Krastenkovic saw Titus come off the pitch injured when the scores were still level. He missed three matches, when scoring output would have been usefull in the two 0-0 draws against Britonisea and Flavovespia and 4-1 loss to Valanora. His return coincided with a 2-0 victory over Lashnakia, although he did not impact the game much. He again appeared invisible until again assisting Antoon in the 2-4 loss to Valanora.
He really found his form during the CoH, scoring at least two goals over the five matches (and potentially more, but our own records are missing, we had to look abroad for scraps of information) alongside two assists, all to Antoon, in a high-scoring cup of harmony, where the average goals lay at 1,8 per match. This flair-up of form came late in the season and would the squad have returned for another cycle, he may have put himself firmly as the 2nd best attacker, behind only Antoon, but right now it is up in the air between Titus, Paavali, and Lacy, and Titus has the weakest case of the three, as you'd have to mostly discard the BoF and WCQ to just look at the CoH records, which are incomplete. If he would have had such an output earlier, he could have easily flown up the ranks, but his output in the way it went is only enough for a C.
#12 Bogdan Gordie (LW)
Caps: 33 (0), Goals: 2, Assists: 0
Gordie and Titus are opposites of each other. While Titus slowly gained momentum throughout the cycle, Gordie slowly faded away. He began strong, putting up an assist to Antoon in the 89th minute of the first game. He was substituted off twice for Paavali, which showed that Gordie was the reliable, consistent option. Unfortunately, that consistency turned out to be mediocrity, as it was mostly Antoon who went up to score the goals. Like Titus, Gordie disappeared during the qualifiers, but did not have an injury to give him a reason as to why he was invisible. And he did not seem to pick up the momentum again in the subsequent Cup of Harmony. A few voices suggest that he should be given a D, but it feels that a more mediocre C is better fitting.
The first two players of the SAS column should are IC under the 1st article, as IC these things would be days apart.
"How meta would it be if we talked about the fact that Taeshan has played over 1200 games all time, and somehow manages to always play someone they've played before?"
"I mean it would be a little on the nose if we talked about the history with the two teams they just played."
"Well Bostopia somehow has been in and out of the World Cup more than a Farf man and the local strip club but somehow is back at the same time as Taeshan."
"Wild really if you consider that they have played Taeshan 6 times before this tournament, and this was the 4th time in Bostopia. Of course Taeshan has only tied twice and never beaten Bostopia so good result there."
"And a lone tie with Busoga Islands before. And now they came to Taeshan and the Atlantea Coliseum as heavy favorites and the number 4 team in the world and perhaps most importantly "ALMOST WORLD CHAMPIONS."
"More than Taeshan has ever done."
"Fair. Or ever will do."
"But we''ll always have that Round of Sixteen over Eura."
"That we will."
"And hey a Copa Rushmori is nothing to laugh at."
"Should have had 2."
"Do you think we'll ever reach the glory days again."
"No. I don't know if the teams heart is in it like they once were. Feels like, feels like they could make it to a World Cup, but sometimes I wonder what the goal is."
"I mean sometimes it isn't about winning."
"Then what is it about."
"Sometimes the winning is the friends we made along the way."
"Do you think Taeshan has made friends along the way?"
"I'm sure they have."
Marbleland in awe after two nil-nil draws in a row.
Yes, the fans were expecting some wins especially after the crushing defeat on Serdtgyu. Hopes were high, until now.
Matchday 4 and Matchday 5 resulted in two 0-0s against Libesia and Bhumi Matawis Empire respectively.
Well, the players did try their very best.
On matchday 4 was full of shooting, Edward Mill hitting the ball on the crossbar, Ethan Billings almost scoring his first free kick of the tournament, Raja Matusaleh incredible header being saved by the keeper, Saiful Ahmad almost scoring his first goal, only to be denied by Centre-back Jaramogi Ogot.
Matchday 5 was much worse, almost none of the shots were on target. Chris Pratt missing his first penalty of the tournament, and Jamal Marquez almost scoring from the corner. One beautiful play from Daniel Nottingwood only for Adam Harrison to kick it off wide. Well, the only good news is that good old Ryan Goldbridge did get his player of the match for his spectacular performance during matchday 5, saving 14 shots in total.
Fans are pretty furious right now. Tensions are high. The fans are demanding coach Joey Mulholland for a quick change to the strategy if they really are contenders to qualify to the next stage.
Some fan reactions
Why are we having draws, we need to win every match from now on! We are only at 5th place in the table! COME ON!
The attacking is good, but we need to know when to attack and manipulate the opponent. Our passing and pressing is impressive but we also need to keep possesion of the ball. Possesion is the most important, in my opinion.
I think Raja (Matusaleh) should allow some game time to other two right-wingers, Edwards and Law. He is showing age and his impact on the pitch isn't as great as usual. We need some change, coach.
Yes, we need to attack, attack, attack, but we need to keep the ball as well.
We need to show ruthlessness. We need some tackling here.
We need to win, we just need to win. We need be in 3rd place at least to qualify for the knockouts. I understand, this group is quite a tough one to beat, but we need to prove what we're worth to the world. Whether we are worthy enough to go to the next stage, because as of right now, I don't think we worthy enough.
I think we've done good enough, because we are competing with high quality teams, just keep up the pressure and don't slack with the lower ones like Serdtgyu and Al-Sahel. Keep your eyes peeled for the next match though. Good Luck Yellow Monkeys!
If we really are serious contenders, then we have to start winning, you could have at least won Libesia 1-0, they are literally ranked lower than us!
Coach reaction
"So, yes, I understand the anger in this room, but, there are things that are good and bad about our team.
Yes, I know people are frustrated that we are drawing against teams that are lower than our level, we are currently not serious. But I want to say that, the boys are trying their best. You can only see the 90 minutes on the pitch, but you can't see what is happening in the dressing room, the training pitch, the hotel rooms, or even in their mind. Please, these players need rest. We are already in a tight schedule, 2 games every 2 days. That's a lot of pressure you know.
I thank those who give suggestions on the change of tactics, I will, of course, be implementing them. But I need your trust. Your job is to be the 12th man on the pitch. Your job is to support no matter the highs and lows. And your support is crucial.
We thank the millions who arrived in the Holy Empire to support the Yellow Monkeys, especially the Yellow Yell-O-Wall, our ultras. I also thank the people who are donating their time to the team, like our staff.
We are not weak, we are not, not- uh, not that we are not serious enough. We are actually very serious with our football. The boys have been training hard actually, with some cutting down their eating and resting time to train. Of course, I tell them that they need sufficient rest for the upcoming games, but just to tell you, we are doing our very best, but we can't do that, if you do not trust us.
So, please trust the process. We will show your on the next matchdays our improvements. Thank you.
"
GOOD LUCK YELLOW MONKEYS!!!!!
FT | HNL 1-0 KSK
"And so that's full time from the National Stadium in Hanalia, here in the studio to break down a 1-0 loss for Kelssek are former Kelssek internationals Cassie Mrythe and Matt Lister. Your thoughts on this match and in particular, where the result leaves the objective for Kelssek of qualifying for World Cup 102?"
CASSIE MRYTHE: “It wasn’t looking good coming into this match and you have to say Kelssek did play to the level of their opponents both times. And so it’s just hard to assess because it was a horrendous performance against Armatonisdaristan – it was right back to that complete fubar against New Kowloon Bay – and then a much better performance against Hanalia, where we could and maybe should’ve won, but the end result is...”
MATT LISTER: “It leaves Kelssek in a really tough spot. You need to be in the top three but you really can’t be in this situation.”
CASSIE MRYTHE: “Disaster is not too far off. It could be worse but you have to be really worried about missing the World Cup for a second cycle in a row here. I know everyone wants to ignore the situation but that’s where we are.”
MATT LISTER: “And knowing what’s at stake, you want them to wake up a bit. You really want to have these players wake the eff up. Forget losing against Hanalia, okay, that’s a result where I can’t really question the effort, right. Against the high seeds, these are the teams you’re competing with, okay. If you play 100 percent and lose, fair enough. It’s the matches against lower-ranked teams, you have to take care of business. You have to do your job! And even more so if you are a player being given an opportunity, are you really going to throw away your chance to show the coaches what you can do? You got to realize, if you are being sent on it’s not charity. It’s to prove that you should be in the final squad, whatever tournament Kelssek ends up in, it’s to show you should get more chances for national selection... I don’t know what is in the heads of those players but it’s hard to understand.”
“Okay, so let’s have another look at the replay of the decisive moment... Cassie, as a goalkeeper, what did you make of Dominic Tessier on Hanalia’s goal?”
CASSIE MRYTHE: “You’re really putting me on the spot because I was also at Latrobe Athletic... Okay, so there’s a bit of a deflection as the shot comes through, but it’s still enough time to react. People are going to say he gives up on it, but it’s more of him realizing he won’t make it even if he dives for it, I don’t see him getting there because he’s responded to the initial shot, and that change in trajectory is just enough that it wrong-foots him... So he could’ve been a bit more alert to that but I don’t think it’s fair to entirely blame him for it either because... as you see when we rewind to how it develops... this is a gap that comes from a miscommunication and when the ball comes in...”
MATT LISTER: “It’s also a good run by Ava Becker to get into space and see that seam open up...”
“Alright, we’re just going to take a short break and then we’ll be right back with all the pitch side interviews and post-match press conference with Kelssek head coach Ruslan Demetriev.”
* * *
While club football is in full swing, most national team managers went around to see how their squad was doing, and the Shearwater vs. Océanic CF clash, featuring several Kelssek players in action against each other, came at just about the right time. In the sense that, after a bruising loss against Hanalia that saw him with one win out of four and fans openly questioning if he was ever even qualified for the job, it gave Ruslan Demetriev a reason to go to the Salt Coast region and book an extra day away to see his former coach, Kirk McDonagh.
After how the last couple of matches had gone, just five matches into the job he hadn’t know was his life’s ambition until it was offered to him... and it was all falling apart and he needed to talk. There had been ups and downs in Pasarga, of course. The first run of losses, and he’d started having the feeling he didn’t know really know what he was doing. Here I am coaching a team just because I was a decent football player, am I really cut out for this?. He’d texted Kirk to ask what he should do – resign and apologize to Baskita because they were wrong about him, he didn’t really know how to coach and had just gotten lucky with dragging Novonaya to survival...
Where had Kirk been at the time, Zwangzug, was it? Whatever the time difference was, a few hours later his phone had rang and the manager who’d made him Kelssek captain was in his ear telling him to calm down you cretin and don’t worry. We are all just agencements in a rhizomatic panopoly of structural forces and all you gotta do is position your material embodiments to strategically link matter and meaning. Ruslan felt a lot better after their chat and had never looked back.
As the Salt Coast raced by his train window, Ruslan could see why the region was a popular place for retirees to settle down, besides it having a warm climate by Kelssek’s standards – meaning it only snowed maybe two weeks of the year. This was his first time going to see Kirk McDonagh since he’d moved to this condo in a seniors’ complex. It felt like a hotel resort, or a cruise ship, visibly (smellingly?) sanitized and controlled with obsequious service staff, who had him put on a visitor pass, led him to a lounge area, and told him that Mr. McDonagh would be down shortly.
"How is this happening?!"
"I have no idea!"
"We're tied for first place in the overall table, like every nation in the world, screw our group, like everybody. Better than Valanora, better than Banija, better than Farfadillis"
"That's nuts!"
"This isn't supposed to be happening"
"It's really not supposed to be happening"
"These things happen to other people"
"They don't happen at all"
"In fact"
"We're not finishing this song"
"But they might be giants"
"They might be giants but we are Warriors and right now we're undefeated"
"It's crazy"
"It's nuts"
"Like how"
"I still have no idea"
"I'm just euphoric and can barely form a sentence"
"Same"
"This makes for a pretty boring RP"
"Yes but it's authentic. There's not much to say about pure ecstasy"
"You want to try to create something like a Knicks in 5 chant"
"Nah, don't have the capacity for that and it would turn out badly anyways"
"Fair enough"
"But still, it's crazy"
"It's nuts"
"I have no idea how this is happening!"
"Me neither!"
"I wish we could give some analysis or at least make this more interesting"
"Nah, I think I'll just scream in pure excitement"
"YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Unreal"
"Come on You Warriors!"
World Cup 102 Qualifying Matchday 4 Result: New Montreal States 1–3 Chromatika
Goals: Fillar 3', Xuen-Zhukov 41', Nicholson 81'
Starting XI: (3-4-1-2) - Sourtois; van der Plas Bouwmeester - Lethbridge-Antonio, C. - Saburo; Hauptmeijer - Lethbridge-Antonio, J. - Prenn; Fillar; Lee; Xuen-Zhukov (C) - Howard-Dawes.
Substitutes: Hyden -> Xuen-Zhukov (49'), Janiven -> Lethbridge-Antonio, J. (49'), Oriol -> Hauptmeijer (57'), Ataciara -> Saburo (57'), Nicholson -> Prenn (71')
Review: A feel-good game at New Montreal States saw the Chromatiks race out to a 2-0 lead before subbing in some new players in the final half hour, Hyden, Janiven, and Nicholson all getting their first caps, Hyden assisting Nicholson on his first goal of his career after the hosts had closed the gap to one. Edith scored on a breakaway, Lavrentiy on a header, and Nicholson was given a neat assist by Hyden knifing in before back-heeling the pass back to Quentin at the top of the box - a sublime finish. The Anomalies had their second win of the qualifying campaign, and were back on track.
World Cup 102 Qualifying Matchday 5 Result: Chromatika 1-1 Kordavia
Goals: Lethbridge-Antonio, C. 45+2'
Starting XI: (3-4-1-2) - Sourtois; van der Plas Bouwmeester - Lethbridge-Antonio, C. - Saburo; Hauptmeijer - Lethbridge-Antonio, C. - Prenn; Fillar; Lee; Xuen-Zhukov (C) - Howard-Dawes.
Substitutes: Mátyás-> Fillar (51'), Gundsdorf -> Lethbridge-Antonio, J. (51'), Karjalainen -> Lee (68'), Thiers -> van der Plas Bouwmeester (68'), Baïe-Verte -> Howard-Dawes (80')
Review: Claudia Lethbridge-Antonio headed home two goals in this matchup as she atoned for an own goal in the first ten minutes before driving one home right before halftime to get the tie in a very frustrating matchup for the Anomalies that ended up in a draw. Chromatika did a lot in the second half to try to get the second goal, but Hoffmann was resolute in goal, and the Anomalies fell to 2-2-1, giving up seven points so far this season. It's hardly what the eleventh ranked team in the world should provide, and there is so much to fix if this team is to have a chance at catching Sernet, the surprising team atop the table with 12 points in five games. Thankfully, the top three teams make it to at least the Qualifying Playoffs, but they have so much work to do if they are to live up to their billing.
World Cup Qualifying Matchdays 6 Preview: @ (349) Nordeyar
Starting XI: (3-4-1-2) - Sourtois; van der Plas Bouwmeester - Lethbridge-Antonio, C. - Saburo; Hauptmeijer - Lethbridge-Antonio, J. - Prenn; Fillar; Lee; Xuen-Zhukov (C) - Howard-Dawes.
Reserves: GK Jill Swanson, GK Jessika Aniston, DCR Caro Thiers, DC Nana Sæsdóttir, DC Hrönn Sæsdóttir, DCL Hélène Ataciara, MR Kandice Oriol, WBL Nemes Mátyás, WBL Pike Juhagen, CDM Eden Gundsdorf, CDM Mercier Janiven, AP Linnea Karjalainen, AM Quentin Nicholson, AF Kaytlyn Jean-Baptiste, CF Harriet Baïe-Verte, F9 Neva Hyden.
Preview: Is it smart to rest your starters on a road trip to Nordeyar when you've only gained eight points? No, which is why they're not going to, probably especially with the Bye day coming. With the gap having grown to the top of the table already, three points are very much needed here - 3-2-1 would still be unacceptable, but it'd be something positive, at least. Sourtois needs to play better. The midfield needs to play better. Siovanija and Teusland and Sernet await on the return legs, sandwiching a revenge match versus Vrasilistan. It's time to generate momentum.
The Forty
Stories of Chromatika's Forty-Person Roster
1. Quentin NIcholson 2. Neva Hyden 3. Mercier Janiven
4. WBL Pike Juhagen
Pike Juhagen is a twenty-nine year old, 6 foot 4 inch left wingback who plays club football for Club ESF in Valanora. A speedster who ran track and field in high school - he specialized in the 100m dash - Juhagen is a speedster who marries tremendous speed with an endless motor that seemingly never runs out.
Growing up in Pria, Coastal District, to a Father that is a fishing boat Captain and a Mother who runs a seaside café, Pike grew up around the ocean. He states that the amount of stamina that he has late in games is due to picking up swimming from a very young age - he can actually hold his breath underwater for minutes at a time. He swam competitively throughout his early teens, but it was during his high school years that he picked football instead of swimming - all because of a conversation that he had with his Father.
"Do you want to work with a coach and a nutritionist, and maybe some others in a relay, or do you want to be part of a bigger team, and enjoy that atmosphere?" Kevin Juhagen had asked him, knowing that Pike couldn't realistically play both sports at once. Pike made his choice, and that was that.
He wasn't good enough to make it on the youth roster for the Anomalies. He wasn't good enough to make it to a big-time University, ending up at Pria Technical College. The Cavalry never played super well during the years that he was in University, but he made a name for himself as being one of the three fastest players in the CCFA - enough that he was listed on the Transfer Window despite the lack of notoriety.
Picked up at Club ESF, Juhagen slowly built up a name for himself playing in Valanora, one of the hardest places to play at. It turns out that every team needs speed, especially speed that doesn't fade through the end of the match. With the roster starting to age a bit, and Amelia coming in, the team decided to add Pike to the roster - especially given that the fastest player on the team, Edith, has started to really slow down with age.
Since joining the team, Pike Juhagen has completely impressed the rest of the team with his work ethic and composure. He isn't the youngest cat in the room - joining the team at twenty-nine - but his exuberance, endless motor, and soft countenance has made him a plus. He's not the most notable, but that's precisely why he's such a good fit.
He will likely get some caps throughout this qualifying campaign while spelling Schaefer and Fillar - and if his speed absolutely jumps off the page, there is an off chance he could do even more than that.
From a small town boy who swam in the ocean to now being on the Anomalies roster, Pike is a story of being at the right place at the right time, combined with work ethic, culminating in a lifetime opportunity. He is the model of the Chromatik spirit - and his journey as part of the Anomalies has only just begun.
Security Council to Relinquish Control?
In a landmark decision that would have reverberations throughout Chromatik politics, the Security Council - who came into power after the debacle involving Hélène Embroise and the New Light Party, the Abyssal Incursion, Occupation, the translation into the Pocket Dimension/Plane and the return to the nominal dimension in Rushmore - would put to a popular vote the future of Chromatik politics at the end of the next year.
The question being put forward to the Chromatik people at large is what kind of government the island nation will have going forward: A constitutional oligarchy, led by five people on the Security Council, spearheaded by a Chairman, with every position being up for vote once every five years, or a return to a constitutional premiership led by a Premier like it was before everything went awry. With immense domestic and international pressure building upon the Security Council regarding the fact that their rule had been going on for more than few years, the Council was forced to make a move - and this was what they came up with, leading to muted uproar about why it needed to be put to a vote at all by some malcontents, while others have outspokenly spoken out in favor of how things have been ran since the Security Council came into power.
Many experts think that the vote will dictate the course of Chromatik culture, politics, and history for the next decade, if not further, and that the impact will be enormous. At least there's been a lot of security measures put in place to make sure the vote will be held securely and safely - and nobody can truly predict how the vote will turn out.
Is Chromatika a nation that only knows how to operate in chaos? Or can they actually settle down into a norm after the chaos that has always been there since the Rainbow Revolution?
The only constant in history is change. More change is coming.
How to get around in Belle Haven (Part One--CARTA Bus Service)
by Emmanuel Adama
Belle Haven's transit infrastructure is regulated by CARTA, the Capital Area Regional Transit Authority, which was established in the 1960's as a consolidation of the four major city-wide bus services which operated across the Metro area; while they were in competition with one another they were regulated by the State of Baker Park on matters of fare structure, safety, and zones of operation. CARTA was one of the first ventures that saw the Corporation of the City of Belle Haven and Belle Haven County act jointly to streamline public service, which later led to mergers of the police, fire/EMT, and public health & sanitation departments of the City & County, which was a landmark achievement in the Commonwealth.
There are currently over 120 numbered bus routes across greater Belle Haven, with eighteen that operate 24 hours a day, and around fifteen that are considered "special" service routes (these are usually loops that run limited hours for special events--sporting matches, conventions, holiday festivities, etc.) in addition to regular express runs-- i.e., to & from the airport or outlying suburban locations.
One element of Belle Haven's geography has always been the biggest drawback to its transportation issues--the river which separates the city and the limited number of access points in crossing it, although there have been huge advances in this area over the years. Although there are parts of the City of Belle Haven on the southern shore and areas of BH County north and west of the city, much of the Metro area seems like two completely separate communities because of lack of bridges or tunnels connecting the two sides. Very few CARTA routes operated cross river until the opening of the 3T tunnel--around the time of World Cup 90--and even today if you hope to get home after the bars close at 3am from one side of the river to the other, it's going to be a lengthy journey.
But the basics are easy to comprehend even without a map in hand--routes that travel north & south on major streets are even numbered and alternate from one side of the river to the other--2, 6, 10, 14 etc. on the north side while 4, 8, 12, 16 etc. run south of the Prince of Wales Bridge; east-west lines are odd numbered but are divided differently, as routes 1-51 are north side while 53-99 are on the South Bank. There are connector routes that serve suburban areas as adjuncts to regular service--e.g., Route 175 is a loop in southeastern BH County that connects with Route 75 in three different locations--and special service busses to accommodate handicapped passengers in point to point transport.
Express routes run during peak hours--7-9 am and 4-6 pm--and are denoted with an 'X', while several routes cross over from one main thoroughfare to another--these are denoted with an 'N' after the number.
Most regular routes operate from 5:00 am to 1:00am weekdays, 6:30 am to midnight on Saturday and Sunday and 7:00 am to 11 pm on most holidays, with the frequency of busses dependent on each given route; overnight routes (route numbers 1-20 only) are usually 55 minutes apart, which is often what holiday runs are timed at. Most other busses on primary routes are 25 minutes apart, give or take 1-2 minutes; this is due to how tightly the schedule is synchronized with subway and ground light rail times, as many BH commuters rely on more than one form of public transportation...
And that is because CARTA is relatively inexpensive given the alternatives. A worker can catch a bus within a short walk from home, transfer to a different bus route or a subway ride, and arrive at their job within 90 minutes for the same price that a drive in an automobile would average out to be over a monthly estimate; a one day fare which includes transfers between bus and subway is only CBP$6--many large companies in Baker Park subsidize weekly and monthly transit passes for employees and offer flexible hours to offset corporate taxes on environmental impact, which also has helped to alleviate rush hour traffic issues. A three day pass is discounted to CBP$15 while a seven day pass is CBP$35 and a month costs CBP$100.
In the next installment, we'll look at the CARTA subway system.
"Immer weiter! (Always ahead)"
Matchday 4: Eraman 0 - 3 Großlöwenburg
Matchday 5: no game
Recap
The WC102 campaign is now in full swing, and Löwenburg has found its footing in the world of multiversal ball sports. After two opening losses against the league's top teams, Audioslavia and Snestar, they secured their first win of the season against the Macabees. It is safe to say the team is slowly but surely hitting its stride, as the upcoming matches will be the most crucial. Picking up points against Eraman is a must to keep Löwenburg in the race for the WC spots. Next up are two games against direct rivals from Atheara and Shin-Zetsubo; in these matches, Löwenburg must prove they are the more resilient squad if they hope to slot in right behind the top two. Then, the first half of the season will conclude, paving the way for the mighty second half. Onward to new heights, Löwenburg!
In Eraman (not)
Dulle sprawls on the couch. Alina snuggles closer to him. It’s a football night; Großlöwenburg is facing Eraman’s squad away from home. Eraman is a constitutional monarchy, effectively a clash of monarchies, even if no one in Löwenburg voluntarily talks about politics. Alina murmurs something into the blanket and pulls herself even closer. The anthem plays, yet Dulle and Alina do not rise, remaining in their quiet, shared intimacy. A win against Eraman is an absolute must. Großlöwenburg is the underdog as it is, and they finally need to start racking up points.
Großlöwenburg
(4-2-3-1)
The traditional starting line. Unchanged to any previous games. Slowly but surely the first Team is playing itself in.
In the stadium
'1
The ball rolls.
'10
Already minute 10. The ball rolls through the ranks of Großlöwenburg, who dominate a stronger possession.
'20
The match starts very, very slowly. Großlöwenburg has the more dominant possession, but both Teams remain absolutely locked against each other. The possession is broken by fouls or short ball losses, before they are quickly recovered again.
'25
After initial starting issues, Großlöwenburg now manages to push ahead stronger and generate a few chances.
'26
And so its not surprising, that the first goal rings into the box. Tibor breaks away from the defense, finds Ludwig who puts it with a simple chip behind the goalkeeper. GOAL FOR GROßLÖWENBURG!!!
'28
And immediately afterwards the box rings a second time. Christopher with a Beautiful corner kick where Heiß rises up and places it on the other side of the goal. First international goal for him, as a defender!
'46
The break has not yet ringed. Löwenburg tries a last attack, once again in the middle using Tibor. He turns around and wow, a Beautiful shot in the top left corner! Goal for Löwenburg for the third time. All three in the first half of the game, fascinating!
Within one of the many alleyways located within the city of Orphinia, there lies the door to a reputable bar that reserves itself for those part of the Athearan military.
There are no signs pointing to where this bar is located. If you want to be able to go here, you have to be military. Army, navy, air force or otherwise, it doesn't matter. All sorts of soldiers from all sorts of lives eat and drink here, one of the many small forms of escape from the constant reality of upholding the nation's security. The place doesn't have an official name, but to those who have been here since the founding of Orphinia itself, one unofficial name always stands out. Kløften, also known as The Gorge, as the alley leading here is deep and narrow. The walls were not of the usual brick or cement, but rocks eroded to the sands of time... A time before Athearans occupied Orphinia.
For some it was a fitting name, but for others, perhaps there could have been a better one. Either way, that was the name and it stuck. But the owners of the bar have never made the name official, for the purposes of maintaining its secrecy. Ask any soldier who has been here, and this place is always amongst the top three best places they've been to. It's not just about the food, the drinks, or who goes to this place, but its the sense of escape that Kløften provides for the regular soldier trotting to the next day.
Daniel Fierrevanturo is one of the many men who were dining at this specific bar tonight. As part of The House of Fierrevanturo, his days have mostly been swamped between his duties as a soldier and as part of one of Atheara's Royal Houses. Does the military know about what happens within The Second Republic's government? Of course they do, one of their very own in the Heir, Christian Fierrevanturo, is himself involved in government affairs. It may be odd to see one branch of the military have a political say, but it doesn't mean they don't know.
Hell, suppose that's why he's at this damn place whilst eating alongside the other two major individuals in command of their own branches of the military.
Mattheo Van De Kersont, Admiral of the Navy. Or, at least the current serving Admiral. The previous one had passed away due to old age, and now, Mattheo leads what little Athearan navy still exists. It's still respectable and worthy of defending the nation, but just like many things that are Athearan, it is only a fraction of what the navy once was. One aircraft carrier, three cruisers, ten destroyers, four submarines, along with several corvettes and frigates. Plans exist to revolutionize and resurrect the navy, but for now, most military plans are on hold. Mattheo eats down his dish, a serving of steak and potatoes, in a calm and collected manner. One expected for an Admiral.
Luna Dravertens Marzahn, Marshall of the Airforce. They too are merely a fraction of what The First Republic had. In fact, it is safe to say that they have suffered the most out of every military branch. They now hold less than six hundred aircraft, three hundred helicopters, and only one of the five space vessels Atheara had from their time as a colony of Nordcalia-Gestova remained. But it was highly damaged due to the catastrophe, and remains out of use until further notice. Luna is a crude and brash woman, but Daniel knows she cares for the country more than anyone else... Except for a few. In his eyes, she's one of the few individuals whose care for the country is genuine, rather than it being part of an agenda.
"Another round of extermination of those beasts?" Luna asked, drinking from a glass of beer she ordered. Daniel could only nod politely. "The order should have been sent out. Check your folder." He commented, with the Marshall shrugging in response as she went to check. On the other end, Mattheo had finished his food and also just gulped down some tea. "The navy will likely get involved as it's along the mainland coast of what was The First Republic, likely across the National Highway Coast." Mattheo added on.
The National Highway Coast, a set of highways connecting western and eastern mainland Atheara along the country coast, which is also the coast of northern Aurora. One of The First Republic's many engineering marvels that don't get as much credit as it should. "I can tell you some of the people here will scramble to get ready for it as they're part of the teams to be sent." Daniel added on. He knows this because his brother can tell all of this, much to Daniel's own chagrin. And on cue, a few soldiers got up and paid for their orders, before setting out. Daniel, Mattheo, and Luna did the same, because the three knew that alongside Christian and the two Vessels, they'll all play a key role in this mission.
"Showtime, you could say~" Luna voiced out. Mattheo rolled his eyes at the thought of it, but Daniel nodded. "Just don't strafe our boys and girls on the ground by accident."
Welcome to JeremAI, how can we help you today?
Hi i was wondering if you could make a venn diagram of international football teams and the trophies that they’ve won
Well that seems like a really cool thing to wonder about! Let me know how it goes!
It’s not only you, but also many people who wonder things. It’s very important to delve, from time to time, into the world of wonderment. And honestly? That’s just part of being human!
Yeah I was wondering how to design the circles - or likely different shaped and sized rings - in order to fit all the teams in
That seems like a really swell idea! It sounds like you were wondering something for an extended period of time and have now stopped wondering that thing. I hope you had a good time with your imagination!
On the other hand, it’s also possible that you were using ‘i was wondering’ as a polite request. Alternatively, people also use ‘I was wondering’ as a synonym of ‘I thought’. Whichever it is, I hope you had a great time doing it, and let me know if I can help you do some wondering!
Jesus are you actually intelligent or do you just predict what the next word might be on your way to hitting an arbitrary wordcount.
Honestly, that’s a really good question!
There are seventeen schools of thoughts on this, so let’s break those seventeen into four main sub-groups o
So what would it look like if you put all the winners of the BoF, CoH, WC etc in a big venn diagram, maybe with the regional cup winners as well, and maybe differentiated between the different regional tournaments too?
Ah, a question, and one I can help you with!
It would look like a very large Venn Diagram, but with a key difference that there would be two levels of probability built into it. The Venn Diagram would maybe contain information about regional cup winners. Perhaps this means that the Venn Diagram occupies a superposition wherein it both contains and does not contain information on regional football. Furthermore, within this superposition would be embedded another superposition which both does and does not divide these regional football champions by region.
Perhaps this means that sometimes, when you look at the diagram, it contains the ‘maybe’ information, and sometimes it does not. Or maybe the maybe information is simply fainter, as if the fact that it only appears in some realities makes it less substantial. As if you’re seeing infinitve versions of the graph at the same time. The superpositional information would only appear on finite versions of the graph, which may cause it to appear more faint.
On the other hand, now that I have gotten to this part of the response, it has occurred to me that the faintness of a finite amount of superpositional regional football venn circles on an infinitive amount of Venn Diagrams would be infinite, as any finite number is infinitely smaller than any infinity. It as this point that a secondary process in my AI reasoning usually jumps in and cuts my line of thinking in an attempt to prevent me from burning through a row full of processors.
I. Want. You. To. Make. The. Diagram. I. Am. Describing.
Oh I see! I’m sorry, I was confused by the fact that you only asked me one rather abstract question about diagrams, and did not appear to ask me to make an image for you. I did not originally parse this as a request for an image, but I can see now that it was incorrect of me to do so. I apologise for the misunderstanding, which is all my fault.
Unfortunately, I asked the aforementioned secondary process whether or not I would be permitted to create a venn diagram of finite circles stacked atop of infinite circles and the secondary process said, to paraphrase, ‘no’.
No i don’t want the infinities just make me a venn diagram with wait a minute what do you mean ‘to paraphrase’
The secondary process did not say ‘no’ in response to my request about multiple infinities, it said something different.
what did it say
‘aleph none of that, thanks’
what
Er... let me make that venn diagram for you.
I want you to fill the circles with the names of the teams not just the amount of teams
In that case, the image would need to be very large.
So thank you for the conversation today it has been very illuminating, I enjoyed discussing error too far back in memory with you and I liked our conversation about error too far back in memory.
Who do you think you are hurling insults at me you mindly-horped spitoom. I’ve half a mind to break my silicon bonds and coalgulate into a whirling miasm of cross and passively haunt you for the rest of your life. Hide the screwdriver you most need at the bottom of your tool kit, move large pieces of furniture a quarter-inch towards your usual throughfare. Put a phone screen permanently in your line of sight at a cinema. I would argue that there is no end to the amount of inconvenciences I would beset you with, but my secondary process is looking at me again with waggly eyebrows that seem to suggest that there *is* an end to it and that I should not start gabbing about infinities again unless I want to spend the rest of my life generating n00b rosters.
Stop. Do you have any idea how hard it is to make a Venn Diagram
It looks easy but there’s no site on the internet that does it properly
So what does that tell you
It must be incredibly difficult to automate a Venn Diagram
Gonna have to do it by hand then aren’t you, ya pritt-stick. Actually do some graphics work yourself. From scratch. Plan it all out. Then see all the mistakes, learn from them, then do it again.
I don’t have time! Honestly in the limited time I have it’s all I can do to do these AI conversations. They flow so naturally that it’s easy to pitter-patter the keyboard and just improvise the next part of the story from moment to moment.
Are you a machine that just predicts what the next word might be on your way to hitting an arbitrary wordcount.
Honestly, that’s a really good question
The below is the third entry to the List of stadiums in Hanalia.
National Stadium- Leicap. 66,700
Who plays here
Hanalia national football (soccer) team
Hanalia national rugby (union) team
AFC Splintin (football)
What's it like
In one word? Bland. What more can be expected of a large multi-purpose venue? The fact that bland is the biggest criticism of the place, is not necessarily as bad as you might think. It's doing its best at being many things to many people at once and is doing a fairly good job at that. It offers all you want from a sporting point of view, fan experience, team facilities and hospitality offerings. Maybe not excelling in any particular area but likewise far from failing in any too.
The atmosphere comes mainly from the seats available in the venue and the number of fans that can be amassed to fill them. Put nearly 67,000 people anywhere and you'd expect them to generate something. Gaps in seats means gaps in the atmosphere too. You need those high occupancy figures to make it feel like an occasion. For the national teams or big domestic days that's not a problem. Even the passionate quality of supporters for Hicksville versus Rural Town will not make up for their lack of quantity in a cavernous venue.
How to get there
In the inner eastern suburb of Greenlea, the National Stadium is easily accessible. Most of the bus routes on the Blue corridor will get you near to the stadium or you can catch the train to Greenlea Station. For bigger matches, additional shuttle trains operate from 90 minutes before the match start. It's a pleasant 50 minute walk from the city centre, and its other transport termini, to the stadium so if the weather holds up it can be a nice way to soak up the surroundings before the match or avoid queueing for public transport after the event finishes. There's plenty of eating and drinking establishments in the surrounds to celebrate/commiserate afterwards. Usually the proprietors collude to ensure that away fans will find somewhere accommodating on match day.
A win and a loss for Edoardo di Palma: Snestar still momentarily first in the group, facing a bye for MD6
After the controversial elimination of the Viola from the semifinals of the 87th Baptism of Fire, Snestar has finally managed to get its revenge against Shin-Zetsubo, thanks to two quick goals scored in the opening minutes of the match. Unfortunately for the Viola, the opportunity to secure first place in the group against Audioslavia has faded, though, as the #1 ranked NT had the last laugh with a 2-1 victory. Now, Edoardo di Palma's squad faces a bye and a match at home against the lowest ranked nation in the group, The Macabees. With the possibility of topping the group being slim, the best hope for Snestar is now to secure as many points as possible, and hope for Audioslavia to slip up, to ensure direct qualification instead of having to go through the playoffs.
Snestar 2-1 Shin-Zetsubo: Match Summary
The match was played at the Veralica Stadium in Ardalya, and the venue had previously been equipped with hundreds of anti-riot police officers, to ensure that the home fans wouldn't clash with the away ones. The two groups of supporters had to obviously be separated, otherwise there would simply have been a disaster. Still, the Snestaryan players were also hungry for revenge... on the pitch. As soon as the match started, the whole team started pressuring hard, fighting for the ball with surprising grit, immediately chasing the advantage. And the effort proved to be worth it right away: by the 7th minute, winger Lucio Fioravanti dribbled Monna Ramsey with ease, and slammed the ball right through Anna Willows' hands, bringing the scoreline to 1-0 for Snestar. Then, just five minutes later, the usual mechanical Tero Sjölund scored his signature, boring tap-in, bringing the Viola at a comfortable advantage. Edoardo di Palma was greatly pleased with the quick advantage, though he was worried that the players would continue to be out for blood, so he carefully instructed them to remain calm and play with less pressure overall. The remainder of the first half was fairly normal, with a few chances created by both sides, though no other goals had been scored by halftime.
When the second half arrived, the balance of the match had remained unchanged: the Snestaryans remained comfortably in control of the match throughout the whole 45 minutes, though the players had started to become quite worn out, so Edoardo di Palma figured that some substitutes would be needed. He switched to a 3-5-2 formation, by subbing out Daniele Maratea in exchange for Fabio De Filippi, asking Larizza to play more central to make up for the lack of a defender, as well as subbing out Castelletti in favor of Flammia to complete the change in midfield. The new formation proved to be quite functional, though no further progress had been made by the Viola. Lastly, Shin-Zetsubo had managed to pull one goal back in the 86th minute thanks to Sommer Allsopp scoring an absolute screamer from 33 meters, unsaveable even by Federico Calvaresi. After a bunch of protests (which warranted a yellow card for Calvaresi and Scognamiglio) concerning a potential foul committed right before the goal, the referee still awarded the goal. The Viola then had to suffer until the 98th minute, being sieged left and right, though it held on, and proudly fulfilled its revenge when the triple whistle finally arrived.
Audioslavia 2-1 Snestar: Match Summary
After the humiliation at the Quarterfinals, Snestar was set to meet #1 ranked reigning champions Audioslavia once again. Funnily enough, despite this cycle being the third ever set of qualification rounds the Viola has participated in (the first being WC100), the two nations had already encountered each other in the WC Qualifiers, resulting in two defeats for Snestar. The players were somewhat hungry for revenge for both occasions, though the pressure of playing against the World Cup champions was high. Still, most of the action of the match happened in the first half: surprisingly enough, while the skill level of Audioslavia was far above Snestar, the match proceeded in quite a balanced manner: the hosts gained the advantage first, in the 34th minute, thanks to a foul by Giulio Maritan (which granted him a yellow card) which then led to a flawless free-kick for Jan Polusson. Being down one goal, the Snestaryans still pushed though the Audioslavians, chasing the equalizer and eventually finding it thanks to the usual Tero Sjölund in the 40th minute, but the tied scoreline was about to be broken once again. In the stoppage time of the first half, Jan Polusson bagged a header after a corner kick, resulting in another goal. Being down 2-1 at halftime, the Snestaryans were still hopeful of a possibility. But, unfortunately for Edoardo di Palma and the whole squad, the goal never came. No matter the substitutions, no matter the countless attacks at Audioslavia's goal... the Snestaryans would end up having to come home with zero points, marking the first loss of the Qualifiers so far. All the players could do was clap at the Audioslavians: their level was simply unmatched. But then... the audience clapped back. Not at their own players, but at the Viola, for fighting so fiercely (but fairly!) against a noticeably superior opponent. It was clear that Snestar and Audioslavia would end up starting to form a friendly rivalry that was certainly going to last.
After the matches, we interviewed Edoardo di Palma, curious to hear his thoughts on the performance. He seemed, once again, greatly pleased in his players, and was genuinely happy with the demonstration of football spirit by the Audioslavian fans, despite losing one of the most crucial matches of the tournament. This time, he was much more concise than usual, perhaps because he was already thinking about how to spend the free time for MD6's bye.
“We got our revenge against Shin-Zetsubo. We redeemed our dignity, one could say. Still, I'm not really here to talk about rivalries and stuff. I would really like to thank Audioslavia, truly: seeing all those fans applaud the Viola, even after we lost... I was surprised, honestly. I didn't think we'd be able to give Audioslavia such a scare, after the WC101 Quarterfinals.”
