Welcome to Channel 10, home of Martian sport

Football in the Martian Independent Republic consists of one league, the SuperLeague, comprising ten teams, with no relegation. Described by many[who?] as "worse than the Kytlerian third division", it's not the most riveting to watch, but occasionally there are exciting games.

The other major competition, the Martian Cup, is a knockout competition, with each team in the league participating. The bottom four teams from the previous season that didn't make it to the finals have to go through a play-in round, and all matches in the cup are two-legged, with extra time if the score is tied after 180 minutes.

SuperLeague Season 1 Preview

Aeolis United
Home stadium: Aeolis Stadium (8,500)
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Catalina Arran (61)
Important players: Rohan Jowling (RW), Ursula Barre (DM), Christopher Howell (RB)
Last season: 1st, 35 pts
Expectations: Win the league
Just like every other Martian football season, Aeolis United is by far the favorite to win the title. You won't see anything new or exciting out of United under Catalina Arran, but what she does works, and no team has found a simple answer to the tried-and-true 4-3-3. A third of the Martian roster at World Cup 99 was made up of United players, so they're the best team on paper as well. Not taking home the championship would be a disappointment.

Confederation Isidis
Home stadium: Murray Park (3,200)
Nickname: The Pharaohs
Formation: 3-5-2
Manager: Andy Starr (38)
Important players: Harvey Astor (AM), Txomin Lizzaralde (GK), Quinn Taupling (ST)
Last season: 2nd, 33 pts
Expectations: Challenge for the title
Nobody was expecting Isidis to make the run they did last season. Yes, they had the most effective tactics in the league, but from player quality alone, Starr's side should've peaked at 4th. It was her 3-5-2, unconventional in Martian football, and the focus on always getting the next goal that kept them alive until the final matchday. However, this season those tactics are known, and there will be no element of surprise helping the Pharaohs - nevertheless, they're still expected to take a Challengers' Cup spot.

Huygens FC
Home Stadium: James Stadium (4,750)
Nickname: The Flowers
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Dirk van der Meer (68)
Important players: Nils Overton (ST), Gordon Gordon (AM), Stanford Katzenburg (DM)
Last season: 3rd, 30 pts
Expectations: Challengers' Cup spot
The Flowers are a decent team, who are expected to do decently well. That's about it. Their tactics aren't that different from United's, and they've got a couple of good midfielders, including the NT's captain in Stanford Katzenburg. But a lacking defence will hurt any attempts to challenge United, and the only thing blander than their games is the food they serve there. They should do pretty well, they're pretty hard to beat for any title challengers, and as long as they don't collapse, they should get to play international football next year.

Sunrise Aeolis
Home Stadium: Xuesen Stadium (2,640)
Nickname: The Suns
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Manager: Jamtsyn Byambaa (45)
Important players: Henri Enwye (GK), Albert Carver (FW), Giovanni Caballi (ST)
Last Season: 4th, 29 pts
Expectations: Challenge for the title
Sunrise has always been Aeolis's second team, but last season was unimpressive by their standards, not counting the cup win. Henri Enwye's seven clean sheets are the only reason why they managed a top-half finish. In the offseason, however, they took Giovanni Caballi from Rovers (for quite a price), recreating the second-best partnership on the national team. Winning the derby with United is the only thing that matters to Sunrise fans - however, Byambaa will hope his side can challenge United for the title.

Eridania Basin
Home Stadium: Eridania Stadium (1,800)
Nickname: The Aliens
Formation: 3-3-4
Manager: Rutendo Mukarate (51)
Important players: Luke Garamond (ST), Axel Zomorodi (GK), Sylvester Willoughby (LB)
Last Season: 5th, 27 pts
Expectations: Challengers' Cup spot
Eridania Basin knows their strength, singular. Luke Garamond is a top-two striker, with only Rohan Jowling in the debate, but beyond him there's not much of an attack from the Aliens. Axel Zomorodi is young, and he's still getting better, but he's only got one good defender, and if Mukarate can't make something out of nothing, Eridania won't be anywhere near rivals Isidis.

Combination Milankovic
Home Stadium: Kovalevskaya Field (700)
Nickname: Combination
Formation: 5-4-1
Manager: Vasily Markov (36)
Important players: Sam Doyle (ST), Li Cheng (CB), Ambrose Pritchard (GK)
Last season: 6th, 24 pts
Expectations: Challenge for a Challengers' Cup spot
Milankovic is the closest base to the Gateway, so it often adopts trends from the outside world first. The one they've picked up here is post-football, which has gotten them quite a few impressive victories, especially at Kovalevskaya Field - which, despite being the smallest stadium in the league, is consistently rated the hardest to play at for visitors. Sam Doyle is quite good as strikers go as well, so it's not like Combination are dependent on their defense. A good season could see them topping Eridania.

Schiaparelli Rovers
Home Stadium: Norton Park (2,200)
Nickname: The Rovers
Formation: 3-5-2
Manager: Alexander Hammington (54)
Important players: Zenobia Miquan (DM), Louise Martins (AM), Cecil Darrington (LW)
Last season: 7th, 22 pts
Expectations: Play spoiler
Having given up their one major young prospect in Giovanni Caballi, Rovers have plenty of money to spend, but they didn't go anywhere during the window. A subpar season at best is to be expected, but knowing their shenanigans, don't be shocked if they win a game they really shouldn't have. Zenobia Miquan should be the only bright spot.

Australis Eagles
Home Stadium: Australis Station (1,093)
Nickname: The Eagles
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Joanne Steiner (50)
Important players: Scarlett Fenton (CB), Jose Silva (ST), Feliks Kalnins (RW)
Last season: 8th, 19 pts
Expectations: Win the Polar Shield
The Eagles are the youngest team in the league, and they're going through a rebuild right now. Steiner was unable to get the team to click last season, and although Scarlett Fenton stood out as a bright spot, the one-two punch of Jose Silva and Feliks Kalnins failed to materialize. If they can be the better team from a research base, that'll probably be enough to Eagles fans.

AFC Mangala
Home Stadium: Qureshi Stadium (3,080)
Nickname: The Elephants
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Arjun Patel (46)
Important players: Grace Hall (CB), Federico Borden (DM), Santosh Thejkumar (RW)
Last season: 9th, 15 pts
Expectations: Go deep in the cup
The Elephants have consistently punched below their weight, and despite a run to the Martian Cup final last season, they lost in extra time at Xuesen. Patel's squad is centred around aging players, and this is one of their last chances to do anything relevant before being stuck at the bottom for a few more seasons. Another cup run would be beyond their wildest dreams.

Tyrrhena Athletic
Home Stadium: Kenton Field (1,400)
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: WIlliam Jones (54)
Important players: Adam Panchek (AM), Sara Brokowsky (GK), Marvi Holtz (ST)
Last season: 10th, 14 pts
Expectations: be relevant
Tyrrhena's aggressive play netted them a -23 goal differential last season, which is impressive over only 18 games. Jones has switched strategies going into this season, opting for attempting to emulate United's tactics. The main issue there is the fact that the Guards don't have many (or any) good players. If they can do anything beyond finish rock bottom, Jones will keep his job.

SuperLeague Season 1, First Half

Aeolis United 3–1 Confederation Isidis
Sunrise Aeolis 2–1 Australis Eagles
Huygens FC 5–3 Eridania Basin
AFC Mangala 3–2 Combination Milankovic
Schiaparelli Rovers 2–0 Tyrrhena Athletic

United prevented the Pharaohs from starting their title challenge off with a bang, as a Jowling brace was enough to decide it, while post-football couldn't prevent AFC Mangala from scoring three goals at home against Combination. Elsewhere, Rovers picked up the points in the battle of the bottom-feeders, Sunrise needed a stoppage time goal against the Eagles, and a Luke Garamond hat-trick didn't make up for Eridania giving up five goals.

Confederation Isidis 6–3 Tyrrhena Athletic
Combination Milankovic 2–0 Schiaparelli Rovers
Eridania Basin 4–1 AFC Mangala
Australis Eagles 3–3 Huygens FC
Aeolis United 2–0 Sunrise Aeolis

United took the first leg of the derby in convincing fashion, allowing only a single shot on goal from the visitors. Isidis came back from 2-0 down at halftime in an explosive manerr, with a pair of braces from Astor and Taupling, while Luke Garamond now has five goals in two games, getting a brace of his own against Mangala. The Flowers' defense seems quite flimsy, giving up three goals and a draw against Australis, and post-football is back to normal, with a calm 2-0 win at Kovalevskaya for Combination.

Sunrise Aeolis 1–2 Confederation Isidis
Huygens FC 1–2 Aeolis United
AFC Mangala 1–1 Australis Eagles
Schiaparelli Rovers 2–1 Eridania Basin
Tyrrhena Athletic 1–1 Combination Milankovic

Sunrise go six points back of their cross-base rivals, with an avoidable home loss due to goalkeeping error. Both Basin and Milankovic drop points in winnable away matches, but it's Basin who lose all three, a penalty converted by Darrington enough to give Rovers the win. United stay perfect, now having beaten all three teams who could reasonably challenge for the title, and neither Australis nor Mangala can get a second goal in Qureshi.

Confederation Isidis 2–0 Combination Milankovic
Eridania Basin 2–0 Tyrrhena Athletic
Australis Eagles 2–0 Schiaparelli Rovers
Aeolis United 4–3 AFC Mangala
Sunrise Aeolis 4–2 Huygens FC

A late Jowling goal wards off a comeback from the Elephants in Aeolis, while across the base, Sunrise lead from start to finish against the Flowers. The three remaining matches all finish 2-0 for the hosts, with only Confederation's win over Milankovic worth watching, with a bicycle kick from Yusuf Rivas.

Huygens FC 3–0 Confederation Isidis
AFC Mangala 0–3 Sunrise Aeolis
Schiaparelli Rovers 0–2 Aeolis United
Tyrrhena Athletic 0–2 Australis Eagles
Combination Milankovic 2–1 Eridania Basin

Huygens crush the Pharaohs at home, allowing United to widen the gap with a victory at Rovers. Tyrrhena continue their winless streak, with Silva and Kalnins both getting themselves goals, while the Aliens' defense implodes at Milankovic, turning three points into none in the last ten minutes. Sunrise firmly cement themselves in a IFCF spot, shutting out Mangala.

Confederation Isidis 0–0 Eridania Basin
Australis Eagles 0–1 Combination Milankovic
Aeolis United 2–1 Tyrrhena Athletic
Sunrise Aeolis 4–0 Schiaparelli Rovers
Huygens FC 3–2 AFC Mangala

Isidis is the only one of the top four not to win, as they play out an oddly quiet draw at home against Eridania. Milankovic win the first leg of the Polar Shield. Meanwhile, AFC Mangala can't survive the full ninety minutes against Huygens, Sunrise demolish Schiaparelli, and the Guards briefly go up before getting shut down by United, with the home team having won six straight to open the season.

Combination Milankovic 3-1 Tyrrhena Athletic
Schiaparelli Rovers 0-2 Australis Eagles

Both research teams win, with Rovers missing several good chances to narrow the gap. A Sam Doyle brace is good enough for Combination, giving them the lead halfway across the planet.

AFC Mangala 2–1 Confederation Isidis
Schiaparelli Rovers 1–1 Huygens FC
Tyrrhena Athletic 1–1 Sunrise Aeolis
Combination Milankovic 2–1 Aeolis United
Eridania Basin 2–0 Australis Eagles

None of the top four win, giving Combination and the Aliens a huge opportunity to catch up. A late consolation goal wasn't enough for United, and Milankovic has now won three straight, while Isidis take no points from Mangala due to an Astor would-be goal being marked offside. Sunrise drop points to Tyrrhena in a comedy of errors, and it's Luke Garamond and Eridania who benefit, getting the day's only multi-goal win over the Eagles.

Tyrrhena Athletic 0-0 Combination Milankovic (1-3 agg)
Australis United 0-0 Schiaparelli Rovers (2-0 agg)

Silence across Mars as neither the Guards nor the Rovers are able to make any progress towards a victory. Australis are rewarded by facing Mangala, while Milankovic are rewarded less by facing Sunrise.

Confederation Isidis 3–1 Australis Eagles
Aeolis United 1–0 Eridania Basin
Sunrise Aeolis 3–0 Combination Milankovic
Huygens FC 2–3 Tyrrhena Athletic
AFC Mangala 1–0 Schiaparelli Rovers

Huygens do the impossible and lose to Tyrrhena at home, the Flowers having no answer to Marvi Holtz. Both the Pharaohs' and Milankovic's streaks end, with Isidis taking down Australis, and Combination getting blanked at Sunrise. A penalty from Rohan Jowling gives United the win in the national stadium, and Mangala take a victory in the battle of the minnows.

Sunrise Aeolis 4-1 Combination Milankovic
Confederation Isidis 2-3 Huygens FC
AFC Mangala 1-2 Australis Eagles
Aeolis United 4-3 Eridania Basin

Only Milankovic seem to be out after one game, with the other three all one-goal margins. Ambrose Pritchard gives up four in Xuesen, including two that were objectively his fault, and Milankovic loses by three to Sunrise for the second time in ten days. The Flowers and the Eagles both take the lead away off of late goals, although in Australis' case it's an own goal from young Federico Borden. United win a thriller at home against Eridania, with the Aliens' supporting cast of Huxley Hofstadter and Adarnase Yenukidze making this game close until the very end.

Schiaparelli Rovers 3–7 Confederation Isidis
Tyrrhena Athletic 0–3 AFC Mangala
Combination Milankovic 3–0 Huygens FC
Eridania Basin 0–0 Sunrise Aeolis
Australis Eagles 1–2 Aeolis United

Seven goals. That's how many Isidis score at Norton Park, with Harvey Astor having all four of his by the break. Mangala are actually having quite a good season, only three points out of IFCF places with a win at Kenton Field, but Combination prevent that gap from being narrower with a three-nil win of their own over Huygens, who are somehow in seventh halfway through the season. Thanks to a win at Australis Station, United are on an insane twenty-four points through nine games, their only blemish a loss to Combination, and an away draw from Sunrise widens the gap to seven.

Combination Milankovic 0-0 Sunrise Aeolis (1-4 agg)
Huygens FC 2-0 Confederation Isidis (5-2 agg)
Australis Eagles 2-1 AFC Mangala (4-2 agg)
Eridania Basin 2-0 Aeolis United (5-4 agg)

Of the top four in the league, only Sunrise remains in the semifinals. Milankovic couldn't do anything at home, Isidis got blanked by a flailing Huygens team, and United lost to an 88th minute goal from - who else? - Luke Garamond. This lets Australis dodge a bullet, defeating Mangala and becoming the final semifinalist.

SuperLeague Season 1, Second Half

Confederation Isidis 1–1 Aeolis United
Australis Eagles 1–4 Sunrise Aeolis
Eridania Basin 0–1 Huygens FC
Combination Milankovic 0–0 AFC Mangala
Tyrrhena Athletic 1–5 Schiaparelli Rovers

United get their first draw of the season thanks to a late Taupling equalizer, allowing Sunrise to claw back some ground, a Carver hat trick bringing a win for the Suns against Australis. Huygens bring themselves out of seventh, holding onto an early lead against Eridania, and Milankovic maintain their IFCF spot with a draw against the Elephants. The Guards take a shellacking at the hands of Schiaparelli, with a Martins hat trick sealing the deal, but Rovers still aren't having a great season.

Sunrise Aeolis 4-1 Huygens FC
Australis Eagles 3-2 Eridania Basin

The Eagles are in ninth, but that doesn't stop them from taking the lead before traveling to Eridania, courtesy of a Jose Silva brace. Sunrise continue to be crushing in the cup, with a brace from Caballi giving them a three-goal lead heading to Huygens Base.

Tyrrhena Athletic 0–1 Confederation Isidis
Schiaparelli Rovers 0–0 Combination Milankovic
AFC Mangala 1–1 Eridania Basin
Huygens FC 2–1 Australis Eagles
Sunrise Aeolis 2–0 Aeolis United

Henri Enwye is certainly Sunrise's most valuable player, as he's allowed three goals in the past nine games, and a saved penalty brings the Suns to a win in their leg of the Aeolis derby, and Isidis take advantage with a win at Tyrrhena. United's lead, once insurmountable, is now just two points. Huygens is back on the up and up, and both Mangala and Eridania needed a win in their match, but a goal for the Elephants was deemed offside, and it was a draw. Schiaparelli and Milankovic also played out a 0-0 draw, neither side playing with much passion.

Huygens FC 6-4 Sunrise Aeolis (7-8 agg)
Eridania Basin 2-2 Australis Eagles (4-5 agg)

Both games were thrillers. Eridania went into halftime 2-1 up, but Feliks Kalnins secured a spot in the cup finals for the Eagles with a late equalizer, giving them a bye in next year's cup. However, the Huygens game was far more exciting. Enwye finally yielded, allowing no fewer than six goals, with five unique players for the Flowers getting on the scoresheet, and yet it still wasn't enough, two goals from Giovanni Caballi in the last ten minutes bringing advancement to Sunrise.

Confederation Isidis 2–1 Sunrise Aeolis
Aeolis United 3–2 Huygens FC
Australis Eagles 3–0 AFC Mangala
Eridania Basin 2–1 Schiaparelli Rovers
Combination Milankovic 2–0 Tyrrhena Athletic

All five matches result in home wins, the Pharaohs' being the most impressive, coming from behind to win against Sunrise. United hold on against the Flowers, and now Huygens is six points out of an IFCF spot with six to play, and Milankovic is two out of second. Australis cuts Mangala down to size, and Eridania overcomes their struggles against Schiaparelli.

Sunrise Aeolis 2-0 Australis Eagles

Shockingly, after defeating teams currently ninth, sixth, and seventh in the table, Sunrise Aeolis is a harder test for the Eagles, and one they can't pass. Enwye does a great deal of work in ensuring the gap is two heading to Australis Station.

Combination Milankovic 5–3 Confederation Isidis
Tyrrhena Athletic 2–0 Eridania Basin
Schiaparelli Rovers 2–5 Australis Eagles
AFC Mangala 0–2 Aeolis United
Huygens FC 1–4 Sunrise Aeolis

Both research teams score five goals, Australis netting themselves consolation points, and Milankovic now likely to secure international football, seven points ahead of Huygens with five to play. Both Aeolis teams get away wins, much to the consternation of Huygens fans, and Luke Garamond can't do anything to stop Tyrrhena from getting their second win of the season.

Australis Eagles 2-2 Sunrise Aeolis (2-4 agg)

Australis go up one twice, but they're never able to equalize the aggregate score, and Albert Carver ensures Sunrise get the cup two seasons in a row. Although it seems unlikely, Sunrise are still within range of getting the double.

Confederation Isidis 0–3 Huygens FC
Sunrise Aeolis 5–1 AFC Mangala
Aeolis United 2–0 Schiaparelli Rovers
Australis Eagles 0–2 Tyrrhena Athletic
Eridania Basin 1–1 Combination Milankovic

Despite a massive win for Sunrise, they still can't catch United, the gap still at five points with four to play. Huygens narrow their gap to IFCF qualification to three, Tyrrhena get a second win in a row at Australis, the Eagles now fully not caring after missing out on international football, and Eridania, needing a win if they want a good season, can only get a draw hosting Combination.

Eridania Basin 2–2 Confederation Isidis
Combination Milankovic 0–0 Australis Eagles
Tyrrhena Athletic 1–1 Aeolis United
Schiaparelli Rovers 3–2 Sunrise Aeolis
AFC Mangala 2–0 Huygens FC

Despite United dropping points at Tyrrhena, Sunrise do one worse, giving up a 2-0 halftime lead to Rovers, and they're now six behind United. Huygens lose to Mangala, and the excitement of the season seems all but over, the Flowers' inconsistencies leading to a disappointing run. The remaining games end in draws, including the Polar Shield, with Combination and Australis playing out a frosty draw.

Confederation Isidis 3–2 AFC Mangala
Huygens FC 2–2 Schiaparelli Rovers
Sunrise Aeolis 5–2 Tyrrhena Athletic
Aeolis United 2–0 Combination Milankovic
Australis Eagles 3–1 Eridania Basin

Sunrise are still technically in this, crushing Tyrrhena, but with United defeating Milankovic, the Suns need United to lose their last two games. Confederation get a crucial win, getting a stoppage-time goal against Mangala, and Huygens can't hold onto their lead against Schiaparelli, now five points out of an IFCF spot with two to play.

Australis Eagles 1–1 Confederation Isidis
Eridania Basin 1–0 Aeolis United
Combination Milankovic 0–0 Sunrise Aeolis
Tyrrhena Athletic 2–3 Huygens FC
Schiaparelli Rovers 1–1 AFC Mangala

United lose to Eridania, but it's still enough, as Sunrise can't score away at Milankovic, and that gives the title to United. Two dead rubbers both end in 1-1 draws, Isidis locks up their IFCF spot, and Huygens, somehow, can get to international football if they win by three at home against Combination.

Confederation Isidis 2–1 Schiaparelli Rovers
AFC Mangala 1–2 Tyrrhena Athletic
Huygens FC 3–1 Combination Milankovic
Sunrise Aeolis 3–2 Eridania Basin
Aeolis United 2–2 Australis Eagles

However, it's a late goal from Sam Doyle that barely secures IFCF play for Milankovic. Tyrrhena finish in last, but this time it's a close last. Australis get "best of the rest" with a draw at United, and Sunrise and the Pharaohs both finish on a high note, with commanding wins in front of a home audience.

SuperLeague Season 3 - Preview

Ten teams enter the third season of the SuperLeague hoping to end up champions. How many of those hopes are backed up by reality at all? Maybe seven, if you're being generous, but more realistically four.

Aeolis United
Colors: Black & orange
Home Stadium: National Stadium (10,000)
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Camilla Arentas (39, SNE)
Starting XI:
Edwin Mercurio / Christopher Howell. Cecil Darrington, Kendra Vesperi, Sabrina McWilliam (KAT) / Jonathan Allen, Kristyn Zardano, Ursula Barre / Mithilesh Gupta (INS), Nathan Monteverdi, Dawid Terzic (EQA)

United were horrible last season by their standards, the normally dominant club finishing fourth and only securing a Challengers' Cup spot by the skin of their teeth (where they were knocked out in the second qualifying round). That result was mostly blamed on former manager Catalina Arran, although she's proved doubters wrong by winning the FloP in Paradystopia with Newe Newetoun Saltquarry. After Rohan Jowling announced he was departing for Isidis hopes of going back to their title-winning ways dropped significantly, but that is still what a good season for them looks like - a bad season, on the other hand, would be missing the LigAnaia spots, and if they finish outside Challengers' Cup places the team will likely have to start over from scratch.

AFC Mangala
Colors: Grey & green
Home Stadium: Qureshi Stadium (3,080)
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Arjun Patel (50)
Starting XI:
Olga Lesheva (PYA) / Faisal Khan, Max Byers (MYR), Grace Hall, Suresh Kumaran/ Srinivasa Burnham, Federico Borden, Lydia George/ Ellen Hardy, Veronica Herron, Santosh Thejkumar

The Greys were horrible last season by anyone's standards, finishing rock bottom having allowed almost twice as many goals as any other team in the league. Even Tyrrhena Athletic, who normally find their home in tenth place, outdid them by eight points and twenty-three goals allowed. This has led to a new goalkeeper being brought in from Pyazhnaya and a centre-back from Myrtle Beach, although they couldn't find anyone to take the managerial role. This is certainly a better Mangala team than last year, but they're still almost certainly second-worst in terms of raw skill, and a cup run is the only thing they can realistically aim for. Even eighth in the table would be outdoing expectations.

Australis Eagles
Colors: Navy blue & white
Home Stadium: Australis Station (1,093)
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Joanne Steiner (52)
Starting XI:
Yug Busch (SNL) / Darius Coburn, Scarlett Fenton, Noemie Lefebvre, Bryan Morales / Zoltan Farkas, Khadija Mbacke, Indah Lestari / Eero Wirkkala (KIM), Luis da Silva, Feliks Kalnins

The Eagles are consistently the best team to not be close to an international spot. Seven points off in S1 and five off in S2, there will have to be a significant improvement to the roster if they want to compete internationally, but that hasn't happened yet. Of note, though - with the addition of the Kimi-Suomen Eero Wirkkala, this team has grown quite a bit more attacking. Much like Mangala, a cup run is their only realistic hope, although they do start with a leg up of not having to go through the qualifying round, having made the finals last year.

Combination Milankovic
Colors: Icy blue & black
Home Stadium: Kovalevskaya Field (900)
Formation: 5-4-1
Manager: Vasily Markov (38)
Starting XI:
Adam Toth (GYA) / Li Cheng, Huxley Hofstadter, Willem Andersson, Lauren Pohler, Adarnase Yenukidze / Corban Green Jr. (SNL), Nico Moen-Alserda (SGD), Duncan Sato-Gray, Steven Schoenbrun / Sam Doyle

Nobody was expecting Combination to win the title last year, much less Combination themselves. But they did, and in an absolutely dominant fashion at that, clinching victory with two games to go. On paper, this team isn't even the strongest, but there's something about traveling up north. Despite having the smallest stadium, the home-field advantage at Kovalevskaya Field is crazy, with Combination taking twenty-four out of a possible twenty-seven points there last season. For those hoping for a repeat, there's some good news and some bad news - the pairing of Corban Green Jr. and Sam Doyle that could usually get the only goal of a match is still there, and so is manager Vasily Markov, but Ambrose Pritchard, the young goalkeeper that led the best defense in the league, has moved to Katzeburg outfit Coalbrook Athletic. A realistic aim this season would be finishing in a LigAnaia spot, but Combination faithful will still set their sights on a second title.

Confederation Isidis
Colors: Blue & gold
Home Stadium: Murray Park (3,200)
Formation: 3-5-2
Manager: Andy Starr (40)
Starting XI:
Txomin Lizzaralde / James Falkenrath (TKT), Sandra Grigg, Joanne Xiong / Yusuf Rivas, Iain Jones, Lillian Albright, Harvey Astor, Mahendra Nair / Rohan Jowling, Quinn Taupling

The Pharaohs are perhaps the most well-rounded team in the SuperLeague. Of course, they'll have to deal with Sunrise if they want to actually win the title, but most predictions have them in a LigAnaia spot. You could make a case for Jowling, Astor, and Taupling being the best attacking combination on Mars, and Lizzaralde is certainly a top-half goalkeeper, even if his skill set is only suited to where he currently is. Now, once they've gotten to an international spot, actually winning a qualifying match shouldn't be a big ask, hope Confederation fans.

Eridania Basin
Colors: Purple & cyan
Home Stadium: Eridania Stadium (1,800)
Formation: 3-3-4
Manager: Rutendo Mukarate (53)
Starting XI:
Helek-Tlanx Gor (QUS) / Sylvester Willoughby, Obi Ogewu, Miroslav Jovanovic / Abosede Oluwole, Xavier Cotton, Ruth Bonneville / Kiaran O'Sullivan, Susanna Kent, Allen Cardy, Francissour D'Everen (AUP)

The Aliens are the only team in the SuperLeague without a player that traveled to Audioslavia for CAFA 13 - yes, even Tyrrhena sent someone. To put it a more copium-fueled way, they've got the most U18 players in the league by quite a margin, and they were only three points off an IFCF spot last season. With most of their players only getting better, things can only go up! Of course, there is the minor problem that the four spots are currently spoken for by the defending champions, the historically dominant team that literally plays in the National Stadium, and two teams with rosters far better than the Aliens', but they'll cross that bridge when they come to it.

Huygens FC
Colors: Pink & white
Home Stadium: James Stadium (4,750)
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Dirk van der Meer (70)
Starting XI:
Siebe Delporte (TAX) / Bjorn Eriksson, Raul Perez, Mathilde St. Fleur, Nurgul Akhmetova / Stanford Katzenburg, Ansgar Kirch (SGD), Gordon Gordon/ Annelise Bakker, Oksana Ivanova, Jacob Murray

The Huygentians have Spiders captain Stanford Katzenburg, hilariously named Gordon Gordon, and that's about it for known talent. Bjorn Eriksson and Nurgul Akhmetova are both hoping to make a name for themself on the left and right edges of the defense respectively, and it remains to be seen how well the big foreign signing - Ansgar Kirch from Solgavish side Helager FK - will fit in. The Flowers have found themselves in an uncomfortable role as the fifth-best team in the league that has four international qualifying spots, and if an improvement can't be made this season, this might be it for van der Meer.

Schiaparelli Rovers
Colors: Blue & red
Home Stadium: Norton Park (2,200)
Formation: 3-5-2
Manager: Alexander Hammington (56)
Starting XI:
Axel Zomorodi / Leszek Kozel (EQA), Emiliano Spinola, Quentin Currie / Corinne Balducci, Zenobia Miquan, Levon Sarkissian, Olaf Bjarnasson (KIM), Louise Martins / Nicolas-Erik Morgan (SNL), Mark Mathiassen (VET)

Rovers are tied with Sunrise Aeolis for the most foreign players in their starting eleven, with four, including a completely non-Martian attack - neither Nicolas-Erik Morgan nor Mark Mathiassen is from the MIR. The team in blue and red have spent enough that finishing in the bottom two looks very unlikely, but even with everyone they've brought in, the consensus is that they're very unlikely to finish in the top half - maybe they'll leapfrog Australis or Eridania, but Huygens seems a step too far.

Sunrise Aeolis
Colors: Red & yellow
Home Stadium: Xuesen Stadium (3,300)
Formation: 3-4-3
Manager: Jamtsyn Byambaa (47)
Starting XI:
Henri Enwye / Alexis Bingham, Ilya Tsurinov (KIM), Abir Mohammed / Albert Carver, Nombeko Chase, Gideon Rosenberg, Ksenia Travkina (PYA) / Giovanni Caballi, Kodi Holst (SGD), Arun Reyes (HNL)

With United faltering, the Suns are, for once, favored to win the league. 1.3 million for Kodi Holst, taken from Kosmo Lunaris in Solgavden's Kongensliga, was the most any Martian club's spent on a player ever. For a player who averaged nearly a goal a game last season, though, it seems like it's worth it. Combine that with the well-known Carver/Caballi partnership and you get one of the league's best offenses on a team that also features the starting goalkeeper for the Spiders and the best young Martian defender there is. Will this be the season that Sunrise win something other than the Martian Cup?

Tyrrhena Athletic
Colors: Grey & red
Home Stadium: Kenton Field (1,400)
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: William Jones (56)
Starting XI:
Mehmet Krasniqi / D. F. Barry-Johnson, Philip Maxwell, Ramon Santiago, Kacper Szewczyk / Arvid Virtanen, Adam Panchek, Evariste Raynault / Christine Kilabuk, Marvi Holtz, Vinh Nguyen

Last season, the Guards finished the highest they ever have. Granted, it was still ninth, but it was a respectable ninth! Krasniqi seems promising in goal, Panchek excellently anchors the midfield, and D. F. Barry-Johnson, although he may be lacking in the skill department, is a great motivator. Of course, this is still Tyrrhena we're talking about, they're still the same old bottom-dwellers. Team spirit is very good, but team quality not so much. They're a team that's getting better pretty quickly, and might even finish outside the bottom two! Probably not this season, though.

SuperLeague Season 3 Results
Byambaa spams the 'attack' button - Tyrrhena go 0-0-2 in games where they score 4 or more goals - Huygens aren't a real team, apparently - Who needs offense when you've got Markov? - Maybe signing players in the transfer window isn't such a bad idea

SuperLeague Season 4 "Preview"

Aeolis United (also, 'fucking United')
In: Ubiratan David (STN), LB, Portus Aurelius (STN); Alexander North, RM, Aeolis United U-18
Out: Heather Cantasaar, LB, Relv SIsse (SGD); Ursula Barre, RM, retirement; Christopher Howell, LB, retirement
Starting XI:
Edwin Mercurio
Ubiratan David (STN) Cecil Darrington Kendra Vesperi Sabrina McWilliam (KAT)
Jonathan Allen Kristyn Zardano Alexander North
Mithilesh Gupta (INS) Nathan Monteverdi Dawid Terzic (EQA)

Camilla Arentas's side hasn't gotten any better since last season, and a couple of retirements rather late in the transfer window made them need youth talent, which hasn't always been reliable for Martian sides. This season probably won't be the one where they get back their title.

AFC Mangala (also, 'Elephants, not Ellies')
In: Afzal Struma (SRS), LB, Syneca AC (SRS); Shruti Banerjee, CB, Sunrise Aeolis
Out: Faisal Khan, LB, retirement; Grace Hall, CB, VV Szebedansk (KNZ)
Starting XI:
Olga Lesheva (PYA)
Afzal Struma (SRS) Max Byers (MYR) Shruti Banerjee Suresh Kumaran
Srinivasa Burnham Federico Borden Lydia George
Ellen Hardy Veronica Herron Santosh Thejkumar

There's nowhere to go but up for the Elephants. Well, there is a bit of room still to fall, and with Mangala's two defensive linchpins in Grace Hall and Faisal Khan both leaving, that could happen; however, both of their replacements are certainly good enough for this team, and Tyrrhena doesn't seem like they're leaving tenth place anytime soon.

Australis Eagles (also, 'bargain bin Milankovic')
In: Calvin van Doorn, RB, Huygens FC
Out: Bryan Morales, RB, retirement
Starting XI:
Yug Busch (SNL)
Darius Coburn Noemie Lefebvre Scarlett Fenton Calvin van Doorn
Zoltan Farkas Khadija Mbacke Indah Lestari
Eero Wirkkala (KIM) Luis da Silva Feliks Kalnins

Last season was okay for Eagles. Not amazing, but 6th place is about as well as they could have hoped for. The average age of their players is the lowest in the league, and they're building a core around this, with only one change - taking young prospect Calvin van Doorn from the imploding Huygens FC.

Combination Milankovic (also, 'the South Newlandian embassy')
In: Isabella Cooper (SNL), CB, free agent
Out: Willem Andersson, CB, Copper Communists (EFL)
Starting XI:
Adam Toth (GYA)
Li Cheng Huxley Hofstadter Isabella Cooper (SNL) Lauren Pohler Adarnase Yenukidze
Corban Green Jr. (SNL) Nico Moen-Alserda (SGD) Duncan Sato-Gray Steven Schoenbrun
Sam Doyle

Markov knows what he's doing, that much is clear. Although replacing Willem Andersson with Isabella Cooper is a bit of a downgrade in terms of pure skill, team cohesion has never been better, and Combination is certainly a title contender this year. A minor concern could be depth - when Toth, the goalkeeper, got injured late last season, the backup allowed seven goals in just under eighty minutes of play, before Toth was put back in and oversaw a comeback from 3-0 down to secure a LigAnaia spot. LigAnaia is probably what they'll be aiming for again this season - the title seems to be Sunrise's to lose.

Confederation Isidis (also, 'coulda should woulda')
In: Helena Hoffman (SGD), DM, free agent; Luka Chukchov (MYR), ST, Southport County FC (MYR); Ayden Serra (STN), CB, SNFA Academy (STN); Sethan Paugudhen (KOR), CB, Horuti Thelithis (KOR)
Out: Iain Jones, DM, Schiaparelli Rovers; Rohan Jowling, RW, Emerald Coast AC (SRS); Sandra Grigg, CB, retirement
Starting XI:
Txomin Lizzaralde
James Falkenrath (TKT) Ayden Serra (STN) Joanne Xiong
Yusuf Rivas Helena Hoffman (SGD) Lillian Albright Harvey Astor Mahendra Nair
Luka Chukchov (MYR) Quinn Taupling

Pros of being a Pharaohs fan: your team just picked up the definitive best two young foreign players in the SuperLeague in Helena Hoffman and Luka Chukchov, both of whom have a ton of potential. Cons: Rohan Jowling is gone. It's so sad. Chukchov won't fully fill Jowling's boots, at least not in Season 4, so the team will have to rely more on its expanded foreign defense. Confederation are probably a favorite for second.

Eridania Basin (also, 'Luke Garamond was the only competent player this team has ever had')
In: Xanda Pond (ERP), ST, Greater Erroropolis SC (ERP)
Out: Allen Cardy, RW, KFX Halazem (SRS)
Starting XI:
Helek-Tlanx Gor (QUS)
Sylvester Willoughby Obi Ogewu Miroslav Jovanovic
Abosede Oluwole Xavier Cotton Ruth Bonneville
Kiaran O'Sullivan Xanda Pond (ERP) Susanna Kent Francissour D'Everen (AUP)

Eridania didn't have a great last season, the purportedly attacking club scoring 16 goals across 18 matches. For reference, Combination Milankovic scored 26, and Tyrrhena Athletic scored 28. Only one of the four attackers was successfully disposed of, D'Everen unable to be sold, but Allen Cardy's replacement is quite a good one: Xanda Pond from Erroropolisish Paradystopia. Much like Helena Hoffman, she has a lot of potential, but unlike Hoffman, she's not in a club that's going to win anything (unless a cup run occurs). Playing spoiler is probably the only notable thing they'll do this season.

Huygens FC (also, 'the Implosions')
In: Yulia Qiu, CB, Walsbruck FK (SGD); Rawned Kassab (TJU), GK, Raven Thoni (TAX)
Out: Siebe Delporte (TAX), GK, Maris Clarum (STN); Stanford Katzenburg, LM, retirement; Raul Perez, LB, retirement
Starting XI:
Rawned Kassab (TJU)
Bjorn Eriksson Yulia Qiu Mathilde St. Fleur Nurgul Akhmetova
Manuel Gonzales Ansgar Kirch (SGD) Gordon Gordon
Annelise Bakker Oksana Ivanova Jacob Murray

This is a club. Is it a good club? Not really. Did it announce that it was going to part ways with its goalkeeper halfway through the season? Perhaps. Will it finish higher than eighth this season? I mean, who's it going to finish higher than? Eridania? Australis? Schiaparelli? This club was once quite good, but that was once, and now is not once.

Schiaparelli Rovers (also, 'money FC')
In: Iain Jones, DM, Confederation Isidis
Out: Zenobia Miquan, DM, retirement
Starting XI:
Axel Zomorodi
Leszek Kozel (EQA) Emiliano Spinola Quentin Currie
Corinne Balducci Iain Jones Levon Sarkissian Olaf Bjarnasson (KIM) Louise Martins
Nicolas-Erik Morgan (SNL) Mark Mathiassen (VET)

Schiaparelli is kind of in limbo. They finished 5th last season, yes, and they have a good club, also yes, but it's just not good enough to truly be a challenger for IFCF places. Even United in a down year wouldn't finish below them. They are a serious threat to whoever draws them in the Martian Cup, though.

Sunrise Aeolis (also, 'newly hateable')
In: Kari Tykkä (KIM), LM, free agent
Out: N/A
Starting XI:
Henri Enwye
Alexis Bingham Ilya Tsurinov (KIM) Abir Mohammed
Albert Carver Nombeko Chase Gideon Rosenberg Ksenia Travkina (PYA)
Giovanni Caballi Kodi Holst (SGD) Arun Reyes (HNL)

Byambaa's men and women are by far the best on Mars. Yes, Enwye is getting older, but he's still pretty damn good, and Sunrise have brought in a Kimi-Suomen backup for when Nombeko Chase inevitably leaves. A repeat of the double isn't an inevitability, but it's certainly a possibility.

Tyrrhena Athletic (also, 'why do they still play')
In: Olivia Lawrence, RB, Sunrise Aeolis
Out: Ramon Santiago, RB, retirement
Starting XI:
Mehmet Krasniqi
D. F. Barry-Johnson Philip Maxwell Olivia Lawrence Kacper Szewczyk
Arvid Virtanen Adam Panchek Evariste Raynault
Christine Kilabuk Marvi Holtz Vinh Nguyen

This isn't the 'free points' of Tyrrhena from a few seasons ago, but football is certainly not native to Tyrrhena, and it still shows. Olivia Lawrence is a nice pickup from Sunrise's bench, and although this team is better than they once were, they're still worse than everyone else currently is.

IFCF & LigAnaia 2358-59

Postby The Martian Independent Republic » Sat Aug 08, 2026 11:11 am

It's Season 5 of the SuperLeague. Five years! What a surprise. First, previews. But before that, international play, which happens in the long, cold winter between football seasons on Mars, from least to most impressive.

Aeolis United
Challengers Cup, First Qualifying Round
(KWR) Tranquility 1-4 Aeolis United (MIR) Lake Park, Mebfygme, Kwrpania
Monteverdi 23', 37', 70'; Terzic 35'

(MIR) Aeolis United 2-0 Tranquility (KWR) National Stadium, Unity, Aeolis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Monteverdi 31', 86'

Aeolis United advance 6-1 on aggregate.
Challengers Cup, Second Qualifying Round
(MIR) Aeolis United 0-4 New Hind City (INS) National Stadium, Unity, Aeolis Base, the Martian Independent Republic

(INS) New Hind City 0-1 Aeolis United (MIR) Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium, New Hind City, Hind, Indusse
Gupta 48'

New Hind City advance 4-1 on aggregate.

After a dominant performance in the first qualifying round, with it being all Nathan Monteverdi, all the time - he scored five goals across the two legs - New Hind City from Indusse are able to silence him, putting four past Mercurio on Mars, and even though United pull one back on the return leg, the Indussean Mithilesh Gupta scoring in his home country, it's nowhere near enough, and it's an unceremonious exit for the team from western Aeolis.

Combination Milankovic
Challengers Cup, First Qualifying Round
(CPH) Club of Choppyhausen City 2-1 Combination Milankovic (MIR) CCC-Stadium, Choppyhausen City, Choppyhausen
Doyle 86'

(MIR) Combination Milankovic 1-0 Club of Choppyhausen City (CPH) (2-0 AET) Kovalevskaya Field, Milankovic Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Moen-Alserda 65', Doyle 111'

Combination Milankovic advance 3-2 on aggregate.
Challengers Cup, Second Qualifying Round
(KAT) Inverhaven City 2-1 Combination Milankovic (MIR) Anchor Field, Inverhaven, Katzeburg
Doyle 25'

(MIR) Combination Milankovic 2-0 Inverhaven City (KAT) Kovalevskaya Field, Milankovic Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Schoenbrun 29', Green Jr. 85'

Combination Milankovic advance 3-2 on aggregate.
Challengers Cup, Third Qualifying Round
(MIR) Combination Milankovic 2-1 Baskita FC (PAS) Kovalevskaya Field, Milankovic Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Sato-Gray 29', Doyle 52' (p)

(PAS) Baskita FC 4-2 Combination Milankovic (MIR) Taltron Park, Torgos, Pasarga
Doyle 5', 67'

Baskita FC advance 5-4 on aggregate.

A pretty good showing from the northerners, all things considered - they beat the two teams that seemed like they could be beaten, and they even managed a win against the Pasargans at home. The away match, however, in a stadium eighty-two times the size of their own, was just too much pressure, and despite an early goal from Sam Doyle they folded. Still, they can't be unhappy with this performance - things are looking up.

Sunrise Aeolis
Challengers Cup, First Qualifying Round
(DAN) Grenadiers 3-2 Sunrise Aeolis (MIR) Dantopian Airways Stadium, New Greenwich, Lion City, Dantopia
Reyes 27', 39'

(MIR) Sunrise Aeolis 2-1 Grenadiers (DAN) (4-3 pens) Xuesen Stadium, Xuesen, Aeolis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Caballi 6', Chase 24'
Penalties: Caballi ✓, Holst ✓, Reyes ✓, Carver ✓

Sunrise Aeolis advance 4-4 (4-3 pens) on aggregate.
Challengers Cup, Second Qualifying Round
(MIR) Sunrise Aeolis 1-2 Dartford Oilers (DAN) Xuesen Stadium, Xuesen, Aeolis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Chase 78'

(DAN) Dartford Oilers 3-3 Sunrise Aeolis (MIR) Bank of Dantopia Stadium, Dartford, Dantopia
Reyes 14', Chase 38', Holst 63'

Dartford Oilers advance 5-4 on aggregate.

Sunrise Aeolis - not, as Dantopian news outlets put it so many times, "Sunrise Aelois" - had only a slightly better time interregionally than their local rivals, two Dantopian clubs proving one too many for them. After falling behind 3-2 in the first leg in a match where it really should have been 4-1, Sunrise were clearly the better side at home, and though Grenadiers equalized on aggregate late in the match, two saves from Henri Enwye sent them packing, as all four Sunrise penalties were scored. They wouldn't do so well their next time at Xuesen, however, falling behind two-nil early and only able to peg one back. They would equalize twice in the second leg, but a winner was never coming for them, and the Oilers would find one for themselves.

CAFA LigAnaia, Group Stage
(MIR) Sunrise Aeolis 2-0 Vikings of Lei (HNL)
Chase 50', Holst 53'

(AHR) Union Hecate 0-1 Sunrise Aeolis (MIR)
Holst 15'

(MIR) Sunrise Aeolis 1-0 jaylin (YAY)
Holst 84'

(HNL) Vikings of Lei 1-0 Sunrise Aeolis (HNL)

(MIR) Sunrise Aeolis 1-0 Union Hecate (AHR)
Travkina 90+1'

(YAY) jaylin 0-2 Sunrise Aeolis (MIR)
Carver 34', Caballi 45+2'

Sunrise Aeolis and Vikings of Lei FC advance to the knockouts.
CAFA LigAnaia, Quarterfinals
(WRK) CPD Perthcelyn 2-1 Sunrise Aeolis (MIR) Perthcelyn Stadium, Perthcelyn, Warkus
Reyes 31'

(MIR) Sunrise Aeolis 3-1 CPD Perthcelyn (WRK) Xuesen Stadium, Xuesen, Aeolis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Holst 66', Caballi 88', Travkina 90+5'

Sunrise Aeolis advances 4-3 on aggregate.
CAFA LigAnaia, Semifinals
(MIR) Confederation Isidis 3-4 Sunrise Aeolis (MIR) Murray Park, Isidis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Travkina 12', 79', Holst 64', Reyes 69'

(MIR) Sunrise Aeolis 3-0 Confederation Isidis (MIR) Xuesen Stadium, Xuesen, Aeolis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Caballi 57' (p), Reyes 65', Carver 67'

Sunrise Aeolis advances 7-3 on aggregate.
CAFA LigAnaia, Final
(KOR) Maethoru SC 1-0 Sunrise Aeolis (MIR) The Amphiteatre, Sephi, Hanalia

Maethoru SC wins the 21st CAFA LigAnaia.

The LigAnaia, on the other hand, went great. Five wins from six in the group stage, only a single goal allowed. CPD Perthcelyn from Warkus in the quarters was a bit of a scare, winning the first leg in Warkus. Sunrise would do things in a very un-Martian way, relying on an 88th minute equalizer and a stoppage time winner to send them through 3-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate. That set up an all-Martian semifinal, where they would score three in fifteen minutes to take the first leg 4-3, with none of their goals coming from Martians. The second leg, in Xuesen, was utter domination, with Caballi and Carver both getting on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win. That set up the final in Hanalia, where Maethoru SC of Ko-oren would end Martian hopes of a first international football championship of any form by winning in the most Ko-orenite of ways.

Confederation Isidis
Champions League, Second Qualifying Round
(MIR) Confederation Isidis 1-0 Royal Mandrid (HSP) Murray Park, Isidis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Ali 65'
(HSP) Royal Mandrid 2-0 Confederation Isidis (MIR) Estadio Metropolitano de Mandrid, Mandrid, Hispinas

Royal Mandrid advances 2-1 on aggregate.
Challengers Cup, Third Qualifying Round
(MIR) Confederation Isidis 1-1 New Hind City (INS) Murray Park, Isidis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Hoffman 77'

(INS) New Hind City 1-2 Confederation Isidis (MIR) Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium, New Hind City, Hind, Indusse
Chukchov 35', 89'

Confederation Isidis advances 3-2 on aggregate.
Challengers Cup, Fourth Qualifying Round
(MIR) Confederation Isidis 0-2 Sporting Honneur (ZEN) Murray Park, Isidis Base, the Martian Independent Republic

(ZEN) Sporting Honneur 1-4 Confederation Isidis (MIR) Defiant Grounds, Copundas, Zenic
Taupling 1', 13', Astor 4', Chukchov 7'

Confederation Isidis advances 4-3 on aggregate.
Challengers Cup, Playoff Round
(MIR) Confederation Isidis 2-3 FC Lubac (SFI) Murray Park, Isidis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Chukchov 48', 61'

(SFI) FC Lubac 1-1 Confederation Isidis (MIR) Banumbukid, Lubac, Kananpatagan, Sangti and the Filindo Isles
Rivas 56'

FC Lubac will play in the Challengers Cup.

A strong run falls short at the last hurdle for Isidis. After starting inauspiciously, being knocked out in the second round of CL qualifying by Royal Mandrid after some very dubious refereeing decisions (although, to be fair, it likely only changed a 120-minute win into a 90-minute win). They would then do what Aeolis United could not, defeating New Hind FC with an 89th minute winner, before falling behind 2-0 after the first leg at home against Zenic's Sporting Honneur. No matter, though - they would score four goals in the opening thirteen minutes of the away leg to advance. However, it would be more refereeing decisions that prevented them from getting to the group stages of the Challengers Cup, as a penalty was debatably not awarded that would have equalized the tie for Confederation. No guarantees of a win, but still. Feels a bit iffy.
Associations Trophy, Group Stage
(VLD) AS Bezieres 1-3 Confederation Isidis
Ali 47', Chukchov 58', Taupling 65'

(MIR) Confederation Isidis 1-3 Soldarian FC (VAL)
Chukchov 66' (p)

(APH) Halifax Freeze FC 0-0 Confederation Isidis (MIR)

(MIR) Confederation Isidis 1-4 AS Bezieres (VLD)
Taupling 39'

(VAL) Soldarian FC 1-2 Confederation Isidis (MIR)
Albright 75', Astor 82'

(MIR) Confederation Isidis 3-2 Halifax Freeze FC (APH)
Taupling 16', 72', Falkenrath 90+1'

AS Bezieres and Confederation Isidis advance to the knockouts.
Associations Trophy, Round of 32
(MIR) Confederation Isidis 2-3 MTK Kingsville (DAR) Murray Park, Isidis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Hoffman 29', Rivas 70'

(DAR) MTK Kingsville 2-3 Confederation Isidis (MIR) (5-4 pens) Stadion Hungaria, Kingsville, South Stórfjord, Darmen
Taupling 7', 88', Chukchov 90+4'
Penalties: Chukchov ✓, Taupling ✓, Albright ✗, Astor ✓, Rivas ✓

MTK Kingsville advances 5-5 on aggregate (5-4 pens).

A good Associations Trophy win for Isidis, too - they make it out of a group featuring Soldarian FC of Valanora, where the only difference between first, second, and third place was if they could get a result away at Halifax Freeze FC of Apheara - Confederation could, securing a scoreless draw, though the return fixture where they needed a win was nervy. They never were behind, but it took until the 91st minute to find a winner. Against MTK Kingsville of Darmen in the first knockout round, the Pharaohs lost the first leg on Mars, but they equalized on aggregate early into the away leg. MTK Kingsville would then score two, before Quinn Taupling found an equalizer in the match and Chukchov found one on aggregate. After thirty scoreless minutes, both would score their penalties, but Lillian Albright would have hers saved, sending Isidis home.
CAFA LigAnaia, Group Stage
(MIR) Confederation Isidis 3-1 AFC Sephi Town (HNL)
Chukchov 24', 53', Albright 77'

(AHR) Everitz SC 0-0 Confederation Isidis (MIR)

(HNL) AFC Sephi Town 4-4 Confederation Isidis (MIR)
Astor 12', Taupling 35', Albright 56', Chukchov 57'

(MIR) Confederation Isidis 4-3 Everitz SC (AHR)
Chukchov 14', 51', 71' (p), Hoffman 20'
CAFA LigAnaia, Quarterfinals
(WRK) KPD Nyareth Newydd 2-1 Confederation Isidis (MIR) King's Lane, Nyareth Newydd, Warkus
Taupling 40'

(MIR) Confederation Isidis 3-0 KPD Nyareth Newydd (WRK) Murray Park, Isidis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Rivas 7', Taupling 45+1', Chukchov 57' (p)

Confederation Isidis advances 4-2 on aggregate.
CAFA LigAnaia, Semifinals
(MIR) Confederation Isidis 3-4 Sunrise Aeolis (MIR) Murray Park, Isidis Base, the Martian Independent Republic
Hoffman 26', Astor 49', Taupling 90+7'

(MIR) Sunrise Aeolis 3-0 Confederation Isidis (MIR) Xuesen Stadium, Xuesen, Aeolis Base, the Martian Independent Republic

Sunrise Aeolis advances 7-3 on aggregate.

A good LigAnaia run, too - undefeated in the group stages, coming back against a team from Warkus to make the semifinals. We already know how that went, though. 2-1 up to 4-2 down in the first leg before a late goal, shut out in the second leg. Still, considering the fact that Isidis made it places in IFCF play, they definitely had the best international results of any Martian team.

Well, the SuperLeague is starting again,
It's small - still Its teams number just ten,
which we have arranged into a preview
(by first letter, as not to aggrieve you
fans who would not have your team listed late
and thus not to earn your unwavering hate).
Up first is Aeolis United, of course,
who in early seasons were quite the strong force.
However, their cabinet's since been barren,
and they've replaced their manager Arran
with Arentas, who plays offensively.
If titles come, they come expensively -
Arentas and her team have been so bold
as to sign twice World Cup winner Gryff Gould.
He's the highest-paid of foreigners five,
all of whom (with the Martians) must strive
to win United a second title,
which this season will be really vital,
as many fans expect them to place first
(though the more cynical expect the worst)
AFC Mangala are the next team,
and to their loyal fans, they really seem
like soon they could make it to the top four!
(most others think they'll have to wait some more)
Patel stays after a fifth place finish,
though he worries their points may diminish -
twenty-five was definitely flukey.
(Supporters think that he's just kooky.)
Led by Borden and the 3B midfield,
they'll need Thejkumar to maintain his yield
if they want a little hope of doing well
(else, they'll fall into Tyrrhena's hell)
Third on the list: Australis Eagles
(in an accent, it's Australi Seagulls)
Last season, for the southerners? Not great,
their performance was distinctly third-rate,
they only managed to get seventeen,
which puts them on the edge of a ravine.
Da Silva, Kalnins, Levy? They're young, but
Fenton soon retiring hurts them somewhat -
that will likely be in just a few years,
making the Eagles face all of their fears.
For now, though, they'll play the best that they can,
though most of the time they'll just get outran.
The tiny team from up north - Milankovic!
(yes, Huygens fans, I know it makes you twitch)
Lost their manager, Markov's now abroad,
(He's gone to coach Loyo's national squad)
so who will manage this unruly group?
Andrei Ulyanov! He now runs this troupe,
keeping with Markov's brand of post-football
(though if it's post-, is it the game at all?)
Title for Combination? Possible,
there's a gap, but it's one that's crossable.
It will be hard, though - they're not best outright,
so for any big wins they'll have to fight.
Now, our league and Cup title defenders,
and, Isidis hope, double extenders,
Confederation Isidis! They aim
to win another one, and thus to claim
the first repeat title in their history,
though how they'll do so is a mystery.
Chukchov's a linchpin, providing the goals,
while Lizzaralde, keeper, plugs the holes,
but their defense is meh, their games are tight,
and it feels as if some problem will bite.
Still, though, they're good - if they go on a run,
all of the others will just be outdone.
Eridania Basin, in cyan,
the Aliens, they're even zanier than
Schiaparelli. They say that the youth
bring good changes - Eri take that to be truth.
Three retirements U19s replaced,
which has given Eri nothing if not haste.
In a few years they'll be NT level
which will give fans a reason to revel.
The issue with them - experience they lack,
Which, against bigger teams, could see them beat back.
Variance, thus, is the name of the game -
if they win big, others will do the same,
but if they flame out the manager's gone
and Eri's cycle of collapse goes on.
Huygens, the would-have-beens, it's four years now
since Sam Doyle scored that goal, yet somehow
they haven't recovered from missing out
internationally, a second bout
was of no help (after Season 3's cup,
though Siebe Delporte should not have fucked up)
In this off-season? Not a single change.
If you're rebuilding, that strategy's strange,
though to be fair, Haas had no time to sign
players after joining. Huygens won't be fine.
Schiaparelli, Schiaparelli.
New manager: Giovanni Kelly.
Not many new players - just Baldovini,
and for a centre-back, she's a bit teeny.
Up front, it's Morgan and Mathiassen,
one of the best partnerships, though then again
if it was the best they'd have won something,
and not just xenophobic fans' loathing.
It's clear that they lack something essential
to titles, but they do have potential.
A good season may well come for Rovers,
though if it's a bad one, they'll need changeovers.
Sunrise Aeolis, the team from the east,
(not quite United - a different beast,
but one that can win titles just as well -
better than them, if you hear a fan tell).
Nominally the best attack league-wide,
they could win the title in a landslide
(though only if all their rivals implode,
which Milankovic, then Isidis showed
doesn't happen most seasons, so the Suns
must get to firing their offensive guns -
Holst and Caballi and Carver and Reyes,
if they must score, they're not lacking in ways)
The title will only be won by them
if they can unleash attacking mayhem.
Tyrrhena Athletic, a team that sucks,
about whom the rest of the league gives no fucks,
who've finished dead last each season so far,
which means, for performance, there's a low bar.
Masochism has to be the reason
their fans come back season after season.
Perhaps why in football they're so out of sorts
is that their hometown simply likes other sports -
gridiron, baseball, and basketball too,
All except football make their base go "ooh".
In any case, to their standings spot, then -
it's only logical: dead last again.

Can someone please check to see if Combination Milankovic haven't been replaced? Eight whole goals in a single match is very uncharacteristic of them, even in the Polar Shield where things go crazy. Isidis don't start their title defense off on the right foot, lucky to only lose by one at Aeolis United. In other news, Tyrrhena sucks, as we all know, but it's a bit surprising they only lost by one. Huygens with their unchanged roster losing by multiple goals isn't too surprising, even to Eridania, but Schiaparelli losing 5-1 at Mangala is a bit of a shocker. Yes, it's 5th last season versus 9th, but that was a positive fluke for Mangala and a negative one for Rovers, or so we heard. Could these trajectories be more permanent?
Image
There's the Mangala we know! Five go past Olga Lesheva as Huygens smack them by the same score they smacked Schiaparelli. As for Rovers themselves, they draw away at Australis, robbed of the three points by a late Feliks Kalnins equalizer. Tyrrhena host United, the other Aeolis team, and this time they don't just give up one goal, they give up four. Still can't score, though. Chukchov and Taupling combine to get Isidis back on track as they beat Eridania in the Conspiracy Theory Mascot derby, while the most surprising match of the week sees Sunrise blanked at Xuesen by Milankovic, with two second-half goals from star striker Sam Doyle securing the win for the northerners.
Image
Santosh Thejkumar is making a strong case for the Golden Boot, but he's the only part of his team that's doing well. The defense is especially leaky, giving up ten by the end of April, three more than any other team - yes, even Tyrrhena, who have lost all of their games so far but once again only lost by one, this time 2-1 away to Milankovic. Zero points is slightly more excusable against three of last year's top four. Still not great, but excusable. United blank Eridania, and the remaining two games end one-nil in favor of the visitors. Australis losing to Sunrise is expectable, but Huygens beating Rovers? Huygens is in an international spot! Huygens FC! Flowers hopeful, get your ferry tickets! Just kidding, it's only been three games. They'll probably still collapse.
Image
Nothing too shocking at the end of April, Huygens FC and AFC Mangala a bit higher than expected, Sunrise Aeolis and Schiaparelli Rovers a bit lower. Aeolis United and Combination Milankovic are the only teams still perfect, and they play each other on MD4, so only one can stay perfect past May 3rd. Tyrrhena Athletic, unsurprisingly, is the only team without a point. Combination Milankovic, the most defensive team in the league, tops the league in goals for, thanks to that Polar Shield performance, while Aeolis United has the best defense so far, only allowing a 91st minute goal against Confederation Isidis. Tyrrhena Athletic has the least goals for, while AFC Mangala, as previously mentioned, has the worst goal difference.
Image
Before the month is over, on the 26th, we have our first cup matches - both end in one-all draws with the away side finding a late equalizer, though of very different characters. Australis were pressing, and when the Eagles scored in the 91st minute (Kalnins late equalizer count: 2) it felt a long time coming. Tyrrhena, on the other hand, scored quite literally the last kick of the game to equalize going into the second leg. The Guards and the Flowers will face again next week, in the same location, before the second leg two weeks after that.

May 2359

Postby The Martian Independent Republic » Sun Aug 09, 2026 2:08 am

May 2359 has five Sundays, so that's four league games and a cup match.
Image
So Huygens are a fraud. Sunrise host them, and the Spiders' second partnership, Carver and Caballi, each get a brace. Once they retire, that'll be a problem for the Suns, and it's close enough for that to be a legitimate worry, but they have time. Hell, we said the Spiders needed to worry about Jowling, and he clearly has a cycle or two left in him that nobody expected. Someone needs to remind Mangala that they want to be the one scoring lots of goals, not their opponents, as this time Warkusian wonderkid George Castle and Eridania Basin put four past them. In the "it exists?" game of the week, Schiaparelli get their first win, and it's an away win, too - however, it's against the Guards, and it's only 2-1, so is it really a win? Australis score late against the Pharaohs, but it only cuts the lead in half, and the hosts hold on to win 2-1. Combination are officially the best team in the league now, at least for a moment, after they beat United by the most post-football of margins thanks to a goal from none other than Sam Doyle.
Image
Just a moment, though. The perfect season comes to an end rather quickly for Combination Milankovic, as the northerners travel to Norton Park and allow goals both early and late. Schiaparelli now have to hope that their winning streak will continue when they host United. A reminder to United, by the way - you should not rely on an 87th minute winner to beat AFC Mangala. The Elephants even led 2-0 briefly, midway through the first half, before equalizing at three-all in the seventy-third minute off of an own goal by Jonathan Allen (who isn't really at fault here, Mercurio dived too early and would have saved it had he not moved). Still, a win's a win. On the topic of own goals, this week saw both the first and second all season - Australis rely on an 85th minute own goal from Xavier Cotton (having immigration troubles in Bohr, he's remaining with Eridania for the first half of the season) to secure the draw, quite early for an Eagles equalizer. Huygens also allow three against a bottom-feeder, this time Tyrrhena, though the Guards never led and weren't even equal for a single minute - Oksana Ivanova opened up the scoring right on the kickoff. In the marquee matchup of the week, the SuperLeague's two best Martian keepers stole the show, as a match with a combined xG over five ended one-all, only Arun Reyes and Noor Ali finding the back of the net in Xuesen as Confederation Isidis visited.
Image
So Schiaparelli are just in the giant-killing business now. This time it's United who fall (do they stand divided?), two goals either side of halftime by the well-known Rovers striker duo of Morgan and Mathiassen securing the home side their third straight win. Mangala end their slump, keeping a clean sheet against the Eagles - who still haven't won a game - to get themselves up to six points. Tyrrhena are lucky this league doesn't have relegation, losing their sixth straight, this time to Confederation, who put five goals past Krasniqi. Huygens FC go on "So You Think You're Fraudulent?" and are informed that they are fraudulent by a first half stoppage time goal from Sam Doyle. Always Sam Doyle. It's been four years and it's still Sam Doyle. Eridania Basin think they've found a late winner off the boot of Xanda Pond, but an even later equalizer from Giovanni Caballi rescues a point for Sunrise.
Image
Tyrrhena have a point! Xanda Pond hit the woodwork twice, but the Aliens never got a shot in the net, and Tyrrhena have finally managed a draw. Also, Schiaparelli had a perfect May - five wins from five games. This time, they beat Huygens away without even needing a goal from their striker duo. Sunrise narrowly defeat Mangala, though it was 4-3 until very late, and United beats the Eagles with a Monteverdi Brace. The Pharaohs and Combination play out a scoreless draw at Murray Park.
Image
The top four are who you'd expect them to be, though maybe not in that order, and it's also a bit weird that Schiaparelli is three points off first. Australis will be disappointed, winless through seven, while Huygens are once again underperforming and Tyrrhena just suck. Milankovic has the best defense, as expected, and United has the best attack, though Mangala down in eighth is only one goal off.
Image
Two goals in three minutes sends Schiaparelli through, though a late insurance goal doesn't hurt either. Huygens go into the break down away at Tyrrhena, but the Flowers rally and an 88th minute winner from Annelise Bakker sends them, too, to the quarterfinals. The cup has always been where they do best, can they continue that this year?

Huygens FC are the only team to score goals and not win, as a Mithilesh Gupta brace and a Monteverdi goal outdoes Gordon and Murray. There were two scoreless draws, one between minnows Mangala and plankton Tyrrhena, and the other where Milankovic failed to beat Eridania at home in what is a game they need to win if they want a title. Schiaparelli's streak ended, losing to a Luka Chukchov goal late in the first half, while Sunrise beat Australis, the Eagles succumbing to a 74th minute goal from Arun Reyes.

8-5? 8-5? 8-5?! It's the Aeolis Derby, anything can happen. This one was a lot closer than it looked - Sunrise held the lead twice and equalized three times - but a second yellow for Ilya Tsurinov gave United an advantage that they were able to press, though Sunrise did manage a goal right after he was sent off, catching the hosts off kickoff. But the pressure was just too much, four players notching braces for United - in fact, Sunrise had more unique goalscorers. Also, Eridania beat Schiaparelli 6-2 with a Xanda Pond hat trick. She's quite good, you know. Wirkkala gets a brace for Australis as they win, Astor gets a brace for Isidis as they win, and Milankovic don't have anyone get a brace, but they win anyway.
Image
Isidis beat United to leapfrog them in the standings, Confederation taking an early lead and holding onto it. Combination miss out on a chance to draw level at the top, playing out a scoreless draw at Australis Station, but then again, it's a derby! Anything can happen. Well, Tyrrhena winning can't happen, they lost 4-0 to Sunrise, but you already knew that. Schiaparelli have lost three straight after winning four straight, this one a very winnable game hosting AFC Mangala at Norton Park. Huygens host Eridania in what proved to be an exciting game, with Rawned Kassab stepping up for once. Siebe Delporte would never.
Image
The table has split in three - the top four are still the top four, Huygens has joined the minnows in bottom-dweller hell, and Eridania and Schiaparelli are in purgatory. Maybe one of these days they'll get to the promised land of IFCF qualification, but that's likely only going to happen when the MIR gets another slot (i.e. never). Combo haven't given up a goal since last we checked, while United are on 2.8 goals per game - pretty high, considering their defensive style.
ImageImage
All four away teams win, maybe because they're the higher seeds. Eridania at least do well to cut the gap with a late goal from Xanda Pond. Mangala hold on for 75 minutes before a red card screws them over, and they've used up all of their substitutes so they can't change things around, and they allow a Monteverdi brace. This won't come back to bite them. Steven Schoenbrun gives Combination Milankovic the lead, and the northerners take it home, and Schiaparelli allow two goals in the first six minutes and will have a tough time coming back three goals down away at the league leaders.

A cup match and then three league ones. Such goes June. Every Sunday, and only Sundays, there's football. Even recreation is scheduled, packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes, and sent out to the masses to enjoy and keep them in agreement with the regime. That's one way of framing it. Or, you could say that regularity is important in a society where one wrong move could literally kill everyone, and it is good to keep morale up. That's probably a better way of putting it.
Image
Nathan Monteverdi is accelerating in the race for Golden Boot, though he's got two challengers from within and two from without. The two from within, Gupta and Terzic, couldn't do much, with the former not scoring and the latter only managing one compared to Monteverdi's hat-trick in a 5-0 drubbing of the Guards. Giovanni Caballi of Sunrise couldn't get on the board as Duncan Sato-Gray and Sam Doyle scored to blank the Suns, the latter of whom is on the outside looking in for the Golden Boot. The other challenger, though, scored a brace - Santosh Thejkumar of AFC Mangala. That was still only enough for a draw, though, as Huygens had scored two in the first half. The battle of the foreign female wonderkids ended in a draw as both Xanda Pond and Helena Hoffman got on the scoresheet', while the decidedly less wondrous Calvin van Doorn and the decidedly less kid Nicolas-Erik Morgan got one goal each in a draw for the Eagles at Norton Park.
Image
The idea of a 3-3-4 is that it can be a 3-5-2 or a 5-3-2 at times. But sometimes it's just a 3-3-4, and all four of them score. Eridania Stadium reached full capacity by the end of the game, as the Aliens destroyed Aeolis United 5-1, all of the front four getting goals and Xanda Pond adding one more for good measure, with Alexander North lucky to prevent the shutout. Two stoppage-time goals change a win for Combination Milankovic to a much larger win for Combination Milankovic, Huygens get a good, solid win for once, 3-0 at James over Australis, and Isidis get an expected 3-1 win hosting AFC Mangala. Sunrise lose in Xuesen to Schiaparelli, and they're dangerously close to dropping to 5th or even 6th.
Image
Pro tip for the Aliens: If you want to qualify for international places and bring your snazzy purple and cyan kit abroad, you should be beating Mangala away. Pro tip for Combination: If you want to win the league, you should not let one player score four goals. Pro tip for Dawid Terzic and Nathan Monteverdi: Break Mithilesh Gupta's legs if you want to win the Golden Boot. Pro tip for Sunrise: Schiaparelli getting a late winner against Tyrrhena and you failing to win against the Flowers means you're only in fourth on goal difference - not good. Pro tip for Isidis: You shouldn't have to rely on a late equalizer to keep yourself at the top of the table, you should be beating Australis.
Image
Much like Rutendo Mukarate's Eridania Basin, this has separated into a 3-3-4. The three at the top, Combination, Confederation, and United, are separated by one point - all will likely qualify for international spots, and they're fighting for the championship. Sunrise will be very disappointed that they're in the second group, the one playing for that last Challengers' Cup spot - unless they win the cup, they might need to fight their way in. The other two in that group are just happy to be there, Schiaparelli finally wondering if this could truly be their year. The bottom four are spread out, Tyrrhena already eliminated from international contention with a third of the season to play and Mangala and Australis unable to win the title. After allowing six, Milankovic now only have the second-best defense, the honor going to Confederation Isidis. The best offense, of course, goes to United. Averaging over three goals a game, no other team even averages two.
Image
Image
While this was to be expected, it's a bit sad there were no upsets. Schiaparelli win their leg, yes, but they were down 5-1 at one point - it was never coming back. Mangala just collapse, while Eridania are shown what top four caliber looks like by a Sunrise team finally moving at full speed ahead. Huygens draw level with Milankovic in Milankovic, take the lead two minutes later, allow an equalizer three after that, go down one, come back to level again, allow another from Combination, before getting a player sent off and collapsing from there. Red cards are bad, remember that.

Another five-Sunday month, but only three league games this time - both semis legs take up the other two spots. We're heading in with a three-way title race and a three-way IFCF race, which is quite exciting for a ten-team league.
Image
No, that's not a typo. Aeolis United really won 11-0. Mangala were down 2-0 at the half, and hoping to get a result at home, Arjun Patel was aggressive in his substitutions, taking four off and putting four on. However, when an Elephant got injured in the forty-seventh, he had to use his last substitute, and thus, when Olga Lesheva went outside of the box to stop a ball and was given a straight red, it was the end of the world. With an open net, United just took shots from wherever, with Gupta bagging four (for those of you keeping track at home, he has scored an incredible eight goals over the past two matches) and Terzic getting himself three. Sunrise perhaps did the more impressive feat, then, putting seven past the defending champions at Murray Park, with Caballi accounting for four of those seven. Tyrrhena get their first win of the entire season, taking the lead early at Kenton and holding on to beat the Flowers 5-3, while Milankovic had the best defense of the week in only allowing one goal against Schiaparelli and winning via a Doyle brace. This leaves us with the most exciting match of the whole week (yes, including the two Aeolis ones) - Eridania versus Isidis. Young phenom Xanda Pond would open the scoring on forty-one minutes, but Eero Wirkkala would draw things level just three minutes later, and they would remain as such into halftime. U18 national team player Miroslav Jovanovic gave Eridania their second lead of the match eight minutes after the restart, but it wasn't long before regular national team player Scarlett Fenton equalized again. Club captain Kiaran O'Sullivan would once again take the lead for the home team with a powerful header, and it would last the longest any Eridania lead would all night - ten minutes. Young prospect Saywan Goran would equalize on seventy-five minutes, and with time ticking down, it was level at three. But Australis is known for one thing: late goals. Luis da Silva would give the Eagles their first lead of the game on 90 minutes, before young star Feliks Kalnins sealed the game two minutes later.
Image
Now MIlankovic stumble, allowing four first-half goals to Irene Haas's squad in a hapless collapse. It looks as if United are running away with the title, and after what they did to Mangala, they're clearly the bad guys. Isidis at least catch up a bit, winning 6-1 against Tyrrhena, with Ko-orenite Paugudhen getting on the scoreboard, likely traumatized by the display of pre-football, but United easily dispatch Schiaparelli. Australis win their second in a row, Feliks Kalnins making a case for being named to the national team, and Eridania manage a draw with Sunrise at Xuesen - the Suns haven't actually done that well at their place this season.
Image
Well, things just got interesting. Feliks Kalnins and Australis Eagles beat United at the Station, the only team to go undefeated through August (and they got three wins while doing so, quite impressive!) making the top quite a bit more complicated. However, the match where the winner gets first ended in a draw, and that leaves Aeolis United in the driver's seat with two matchdays to go. It looks like the reverse fixture of the Aeolis Derby will decide the title. Obonetse Mochawe and George Castle put on a wonderful display of how both Martians and foreigners can score, combining for four goals in a 6-2 rout of Tyrrhena. With Schiaparelli defeating Huygens in a game where the result was never in doubt, this makes the fourth place spot competitive again, especially because Sunrise were upset by AFC Mangala thanks to a 90th minute goal from Ellen Hardy.
Image
The 3-3-4 remains, now with fancy color coding. The two Aeolis teams are in control of their respective colors, though Sunrise wishes they were green. 53 goals in 16 matches is just crazy, so of course United have the most goals scored, while Milankovic are back to their natural place as best defense. (For reference, Tyrrhena are unsurprisingly worst on both metrics.)
Image
Bit of a weird goalscorer for United - Sabrina McWilliam plays quite defensively. Still, a goal's a goal. Shame they couldn't get another one, though. In the evening match, eleven Sunrise players failed to stop Corban Green Jr. from scoring early and late, so they head into the second leg in Milankovic tied.
Image
Something must have changed for Aeolis United in the three weeks between leg one and leg two, as they absolutely blow Confederation Isidis out of the water, the Pharaohs going up 4-2 on aggregate before allowing four unanswered goals in the second half to get knocked out. On the other side, it took 120 minutes, but Combination Milankovic did it, with goals from Schoenbrun, Moen-Alserda, and Doyle. and we will have a first-time cup winner this season.

September 2359

Postby The Martian Independent Republic » Sun Aug 09, 2026 4:36 am

September holds the end of the season, both in the league and the cup (moved to Huygens to truly be a neutral site). Who will win?
Image
One battle is resolved quickly, and the other is certainly not. Sunrise defeat Australis, while Schiaparelli and Eridania both fall to top-three opposition, and that's that - Sunrise Aeolis will finish fourth. MIlankovic win away at Eridania, Isidis win at home against Schiaparelli, and Aeolis United blank Huygens at the National Stadium, setting up a crazy final day.
Image
Combination Milankovic will win the title if they win, Aeolis United loses, and Confederation Isidis doesn't win. Confederation Isidis will win the title if they win and Aeolis United doesn't. Aeolis United will win if neither of those things happen. All the games kick off at 18:00. Good luck.
Image
Interpret that as you will, put the narratives you wish to put to it. For a moment, Milankovic were champions, but Sunrise fell apart once again.
Image
Aeolis United win their third title, the most of any team, but it's the first under Arentas and the first since season 1 - i.e. the first title they've won with international players. Milankovic should be happy with second, while third seems to be Isidis's natural home, and Sunrise won't mind fourth even if they hate their final points tally.

Image
Post-football survives on Mars. The fact that this game ended 1-0 should already tell you its winner, a single Sam Doyle goal all that separated the two teams, as Milankovic were able to control the pace of play, the northerners slowing the match down.
