I'm looking over my entries. And I keep getting 333 instead of 332

I noticed with last year's Winter Olympics that the Luge team was an automatic qualifier if a nation submitted the correct Luge players format, of men, women etc

This time around the Luge Team is listed as an entry to add your own skill modifier on the spreadsheet and not listed as an automatic qualifier.

Just double checking if this is the case. As I can't seem to find anything else that would have ne at 333 not 332 for the delegation.

Skeleton mixed team and luge team relay are now signup-based events.

Hi, I have noticed I have been incorrectly mentioned in an RP post on the RP thread.
Just wanted to point out that the trigramme I have requested, SNE, has also been used by the nation Serenitas Novae when signing up to the Olympics. However, since then Serenitas Novae has been notified that I had already requested the trigramme before them, and has changed their request to STN. It would be good for the both of us if the Winter Olympics threads reflected this change, to avoid confusion. Thanks in advance! :)

Plenty of nations have doubled up on trigrammes before. Given Snestar is not competing in the Olympics at present, and signups have already been taken, no changes will occur to the ongoing Games. I encourage you to instead take it up with the user which misidentified the competing team as yours.

Bid for the Games of the XX Olympiad - Hamilton and Prescott, Electrum

Events
All events, including those on the extended list, will be run using xkoranate. Where the base and extended list has available substitutes, the event that appeared in Paris 2024 are mostly prioritised. The following substitutions will be used:
  • 20km walk instead of half-marathon walk
  • Mixed marathon walk relay instead of 4x100 mixed relay
  • Sport climbing will have separate bouldering and lead events instead of a combined boulder/lead event
  • Lightweight double sculls instead of beach sprint rowing
  • Mixed skeet team instead of mixed trap team
  • Men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed team table tennis events will run

Depending on numbers there may be qualifying rounds.

Timeline
Sign ups will be open in September and run to approximately the third week of November with the Games starting on the last week of November into December.

Roleplay scoring
RP bonus will be designed to reward both quality (even if it's occasional) and quantity. It will be achievable to get a good bonus by roleplaying every second cutoff with components for cumulative roleplay score with degradation and the best roleplay in the past two cutoffs. The roster bonuses will count separately and permanently without degradation. MMAB will be utilised, see below (may be adjusted slightly once the bid is accepted):

1–30 entries: Full MMAB for any STDEV
31–80 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 35 or less
81–175 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 30 or less
176–300 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 25 or less
301+ entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 20 or less

MMAB will scale proportionally to how far over the acceptable each delegation is. A 33% min-max penalty, applied to overall RP bonus, will apply to delegations with a standard deviation more than three points above the limit, or for any delegation with 31+ entries with a standard deviation over 35. These delegations will also have their MMAB capped at 0.667 (a 33% penalty on the maximum) even if their MMAB would otherwise be higher.

Policies
Athletes being entered into unrealistic or impossible combinations of events, in the host's opinion, may require resubmission.

All use of AI direct text output will be prohibited (using AI to generate ideas etc. that does not result in the final text output being AI-generated is fine). Please declare any and all use of AI, or risk expulsion from the Games and vacating of results with other athletes promoted, if such unauthorised use is detected.

For the purposes of the "Rules regarding withdrawing a nation from an NS Sport RP", a nation is considered to have signed up upon acceptance by myself. If nations wish to withdraw, their roleplay bonus will be set to zero without any other intervention. The same procedure is used should a nation cease to exist during the Olympics.

Each user may enter a maximum of two delegations, with the main and the puppet delegation clearly marked. There is no maximum limit for one delegation (other than the technical limit of sending the full amount of entries in each event) but a user may send 600 entries overall spread across their two delegations. Skill ratings will range from 0 to 100, inclusive, but the overall average for each delegation must not exceed 50 points. Puppets must be clearly declared. Any undeclared puppetry detected will result in expulsion from the Games and vacating of results, with other athletes promoted.

Combined delegations with multiple NOC codes may be entered only when made up of nations controlled by multiple users. Individual users wishing to enter multiple teams may do so in a single combined delegation with a single NOC code or in the traditional main/puppet format. Users may also enter as part of a combined delegation, which would count as the main delegation, in addition to a puppet with the applicable entry limit. Combined delegations with multiple NOC codes must represent countries which each have their own NationStates account and which have a compelling regional or cultural link between them.

For full transparency, the key thing in this bid that the RP bonus will have two components: the best RP score from the last two days and cumulative, degrading RP score (counting all days).

It's not a linear relationship though, so if you compare someone who RPs every day vs every second day, it's not like the person who RPs every second day will get half the cumulative, degrading RP score compared to a person who RPs every day, it would be not as harsh. I've yet to tweak the variables but it will be something like a loglinear system.

This is to compensate for the fact that the tournament may be longer (and have more cutoffs) as I have comparatively less free time than in the past.

I must admit it was my familiarity with the combined scoring system that led me to keep it. I did consider having separate events, and I am still open to running them instead of the separate events but I cannot for the life of me figure out how the qualifying points system works (see here for an example Alberto Ginés topped twice so ranked first, but the scoring system requires me to square the rank twice then square root it, so I expect 1.0 but instead the score is listed as 2.5 - the formula in the rulebook is sqrt((rank x rank)))

edit: having figured it out I will run the separated events instead of the combined event.

NSOG Announcement Thread's already listed at the OP. The list of events is on the third post of that thread.

If you can't do basic reading comprehension, it is not up to others to help you on that front.

RP bonus makes sense, mostly considering the slower calendar and relatively less RP activity on this subforum compared to let's say a year or two ago. It gives everybody manageable expectations.

Also, thank you for clarity on the scheduling front as well, Electrum. Of course, RL comes first and no rush. You are a veteran host who I'm sure will pace and manage very nicely.

I looked and it wasnt readily obvious being in a bunch of lines of normal sized links and text. It certainly bears reposting in a bid for people who have not competed in recent memory, especially when it looked like it was linked. This is literally the silliest argument ever when the simple response is "yea thats a good idea, we should repost it for new players"

Or you could look it up, as has been mentioned it's not difficult, instead of complaining about someone not posting 400 lines of unnecessary text. It is never a good idea to flood an important bid post with 400 lines of text for 350+ events.

I DID look it up and couldnt find it, thats why I asked. It wasnt readily apparent in the OP as its buried in a lsit of other links. And I didnt say to post 400 lines, but to post a link to the list of events.

The bid does in fact make it look it should have a link.

I have updated the first post to be more clear about where to find information. I agree that it is indeed not obvious for a newcomer how this thing works, which those of us involved in running the thing can often forget because we know it already.

Thanks all for voting for my bid, I'll have sign ups open start of September.

There will be a long lead time with sign ups closing third week of November. I'll be on holidays from Fri Oct 30 to Mon Nov 16 so I'll be a bit inactive, but I'll still be around to check sign ups and verify compliance with the rules.

FYI, the signup sheet looks to have the 'Paddlesport - Slalom Paddle' events duplicated under 'Canoeing - Slalom' (unless of course I've misunderstood the naming and these are in fact different events)

Just to clarify, the signup post says posts tagging the thread will be ignored. Does that mean I can still tag the thread and then publish a separate post once I’ve come up with a roster?

Reminder: there should be different archers in the mixed compound archery event compared to the regular recurve archery events - it's a different kind of archery.
