OOC: Wow, and we just had to start in the summer. Oh well, let’s see how this goes…

THIS IS HOCKEY!

Hello, and welcome to SportCentral, I’m Desmond and I’m here to bring you the latest sports news here on TASN! Our top news story is the finalization of the National Hockey team. Notable names on the team being Arnold Fulbert, Jasper Kacper, and Hector Gerhardt. Herandez Markus Was named Head Coach at the beginning of this year. In an interview with Markus he noted that this tournament he plans to go big. He believes the team is capable of going far and has seen the type of talent he knows will get them far. Flulbert also noted in another interview that he is ready for any challenges the team faces. (Fulbert) “I believe in the team is capable and ready for international play. We just have to keep our minds focused and in the game.” With the Nationale Hockey Association top players competing in international play, they can only play to go big.

You can view the entire roster on app or website!

Chromatik Hockey League - Season 1 Preview Part 1

Organized hockey returns to Chromatika, and twelve teams now vie for the title. Let us meet six of them here.

Anfanhar Desperadoes
Location: Anfanhar, Heartland District
Head Coach: Stefan Moreau (54)
Key Players:
RW Emilie Kruger (22) - on the national team, a leader who can score in the clutch, and makes great shot collection. She can be a bit emotional at times, but there she is the best player on this team.
C Nikolai Voss (25) - A visionary, high-IQ player who could get on the team in the years to come. Not the best when he has to go through players.
LW Park Ji-Won (24) - A fast, transition-based winger who lacks consistency and discipline.
D Henri Lane (24) - Excels in penalty kills, not very good offensively. On national team.
G Gabriel Moreau (29) - Durable, composed, and has good rebound control
Preview: A Championship Contender through and through who will look to make it to the Championship Series at least.

Chromia Knights
Location: Chromia, Capital District
Head Coach: Armand Levesque (49)
Key Players:
C Julien Voss (26) - A creative, possession-based center who dictates pace on the offense.
LW Arto LeClerc (22) - A playmaking winger on the third line, not the best when shooting.
RW Viktor Renard (31) - A tough leader in front of the net, but not very fast anymore with age.
D Daisuke Mori (26) - A mobile passer who isn't the best when physically pressed.
G Tomas Engel (30) - An athletic, reflexive keeper.
Preview: Score, score, and score some more. Hopefully score enough. If they make the playoffs, it'd be a surprise.

Chromia Lancers
Location: Chromia, Capital District
Head Coach: Helena Richter (46)
Key Players:
C Aleksandra "Sasha" DuBois (21) - National Team Captain, superstar, two-way excellent player who can overcommit at times.
LW Elena Richter (26) - Younger cousin of Helena, another high-IQ scorer who prefers to get around people.
RW Markus Dahl (29) - Good scorer, consistent, but not very fast.
D Sven Volker (31) - Defensive leader, very physical; easily the worst skater on the team.
G Isabelle Cho (27) - A composed goaltender who can sometimes get overwhelmed by pandemonium in front of the goal.
Preview: Should be one of the title favorites. Sasha, Richter, and Dahl score and score in bunches.

Felswyr Glaciers
Location: Felswyr, Mountain District
Head Coach: Oskar Nyholm (58)
Key Players:
C Lukas Winter (27) - Two-way player who doesn't have the highest of ceilings but does well enough in transition to make up for it.
LW Emilia Hartmann (24) - Energetic, fast player who is one of the best defensive wingers in the league.
RW Mikkel Schneider (24) - An opportunistic sniper who loves to provide long-range support fire, Schneider knows when to drop back in defense and when to take shots from range. He is the best on rebounds, in transition, and right ater a turnover.
D Katarina Madsen (35) - The enforcer Madsen's physicality and ability to be at the right place at the right time makes her the soul of the team.
G Viktor Falken (30) - Composed in big games, handled rebounds very well.
Preview: A defensive nut that is very hard to crack, the Glaciers will always be a tough out.

Felswyr Viceroys
Location: Felswyr, Mountain District
Head Coach: Rina Kovac (41)
Key Players:
C Jonas Ekberg (25) - A good skater who isn't the strongest but is good in transition.
LW Claire Volkov (20) - An offensive playmaker who isn't the best in defense. On the national team.
RW Anton Richter (29) - A pure shooter who is good in front of the net. Not the fastest.
D Rina Nakamori (23) - Another great skater who is great at leading the power play.
G Kapser Holm (28) - Flexible, athletic goaltender who is prone to injury.
Preview: A young roster that could totally be a contender if they can stay consistent. Extremely fast.

Lhor Peregrine Falcons
Location: Lhor, Coastal District
Head Coach: Lars Holm (52)
Key Players:
C Niko Salonen (26) - A serviceable visible center with some speed that is best in transition play.
LW Camille Rousseau (24) - Creative, pass-first winger who struggles in defensive play.
RW Anders Holmgren (30) - Veteran finisher, leader of the team.
D Riku Tanaka (27) - Fast, moving skater.
G Dimitri Cho (23) - Second-best keeper in the country, who is very good at tracking the puck. Splendid.
Preview: Cho makes them a legitimate longshot.

Solgavish Ice Hockey Federation
(Solgavsk Ishockey Forbund - SIF)

Image

Following a rejuvenated interest in the sport, the Solgavish performance at the 20th Winter Olympics was a mixed bag, with the Men's team ending their run with a quarterfinal loss to eventual champions Valanora, and the Women's team bowing out in the earlier rounds. With Solgavish sports now effectively united between both sexes, this mixed team looks to take the best elements of both Olympic rosters.

Welcome to Kordavia, land of freedom and opportunity!*

This tournament marks the first international tournament hosted by Kordavia, a secretive and isolated nation located on the Terramidia continent of Rushmore. Kordavia describes itself as an orderly and progressive land of plenty, in which strong national identity ensures the streets and fields are safe and clean. Dissenters describe it as a repressive authoritarian regime tinged with elements of folk horror. Visitors should have no, well, few fears when visiting: Kordavia has previously hosted international football and ice hockey matches without incident, and so long as visitors abide by the law, do not attempt to subvert the regime, and, should they hear footsteps behind them NEVER EVER LOOK BACK, they can expect a safe and rewarding experience.

Image

Kordavia is such a secretive regime that few international maps even show its exact location, but it is believed to be located somewhere in this region of Terramidia, in the vicinity of nations such as Olastor, Cassadaigua, and Darmen.

Group stage games are being hosted across several different nations. (OOC: You can decide which of the allocated stadiums per division your game takes place at, with whichever player roleplays first setting precedent.) The final rounds from the Round of 16 onwards will be played in Kordavia. Visitors must arrive via approved chartered international flights, where they will be welcomed by friendly and conscientious customs and security personnel, who will work hard to ensure all personal luggage is in compliance with import regulations. Sadly, despite an excellent security record, it’s not unknown for a passenger to accidentally forget to declare a piece of contraband, so all luggage and personal effects will be subjected to extensive searches. Speed up visa processing by immediately surrendering all electronic devices and reading materials to customs personnel on arrival, and please have all paperwork, including visa and security approval, ready for inspection. Some of our more diverse visitors may enjoy being welcomed with a random security check and a brief interview, just to ensure the safety and security of everyone. Visitors will be issued with a visitor ID badge. Please keep this on your person at all times and present it to domestic security personnel when requested.

Don’t panic! If you return to your room after a visit to the gym, swimming pool, or health spa, and find some of your personal effects have been moved, it’s just the Wanderwichte. These adorable little trolls are known to haunt Kordavian bedrooms, and are responsible for everything from personal diaries being opened and meticulously read, to clothes being sifted through for hidden contraband. What mischievous little imps!

Visitors will be assigned to state-approved hotels. Your room will be modern and faultlessly clean: trust us, the hotel’s cleaners won’t leave a single grain of dust undisturbed on their thrice-daily checks! Although bringing in foreign reading material is not permitted, every room comes with a selection of reading material, ranging from guidebooks to Valkheim, histories of Kordavia (all recently approved and revised), and even some exciting spy novels and charming romances for those who just want to unwind with a good page-turner while enjoying a bath and a complimentary glass of Kordavian Eisblut. Settle in and relax ahead, and look forward to a good night’s sleep, with apologies for any disturbances caused by late night flights of black unmarked helicopters into city Red Zones undergoing cleansing efforts.

Here are some positive reviews that the handful of foreign visitors who’ve made their way to Kordavia in recent years have left:

Anna Moltke Rasmussen (wildlife photographer)
★★★★★
“Beautiful scenery.”

Eduardo Fernández Vega (business consultant)
★★★★★
“Very clean, hotel room was cleaned multiple times every day.”

Oluwaseun Adeyemi (cultural affairs journalist)
★★★★★
“Charming displays of precision from the Kordavian national guards at the Trooping the Flag. It was like a medieval fairy story.”

Alexei Ivanov (weapons inspector)
★★★★☆
“We enjoyed excellent accommodation and dinners during our stay. Trains always ran on time. A shame we were not allowed access to the Schattenschmiede biolabs but our hosts assured us there was nothing to see there. Still an enjoyable trip.”

Further information will be provided as necessary.

* Terms and conditions apply.

Puck Watch!: Welcome To Division I

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Jun 12, 2026 8:38 am

After a frustrating attempt to qualify for the Olympics didn't go as planned, the Ice Jaguars of TJUN-ia were now back as a single co-ed unit, but everything felt different all of a sudden. Sure, neither our men's nor women's squads managed to make the main draw, but what our attempts in Liventia did give us was much-needed depth, both in terms of the playing squad and the coaching staff. Splitting the team up introduced everyone to a bunch of new names, but everyone invited to form those teams certainly did well for what they were up against. So, with that in mind, what could everyone, old and new players alike, do together in the WCoH itself?

Welcome to Division I - yes, TJUN-ia have wound up here as the #8 ranked side in the world. With the Top 8 of these 10 advancing to the Playoffs, the only real jeopardy in this group is that the quality of competition is so high, so everyone knew that we had to be very careful not to get stung too many times in this Division. Starting us off in battle would be #14 Darmen in a Blue and Orange vs White and Green clash. No one quite knew what to expect out of this side when the puck dropped, but what ended up happening was certainly a pleasant surprise. The game was simpler than it had any right being as we simply went onto that ice and kicked some ass, with Karina Stepova grabbing a brace alongside goals from Lara Petersdóttir and Klara Hilderbrandt. Wayne Chancellor did get a goal in this game for our opponents, but you could tell that Hjálmar Nes was less than impressed on the opposing bench when the clock hit 0. A 4-1 win was not what we were expecting at all, but that's what we got.

So, with that in mind, we must press forward into Calgasia next, ranked 13th.
This will be a long grind, so every point will count.
GO ICE JAGS!

Toisen Divisioonan Aloitus

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Fri Jun 12, 2026 10:05 am

Olemme palanneet, ja silti tunnemme olomme niin tyhjiksi. Failing to qualify for the Olympialaiset in your #1 most popular sport would do that to anyone but here in Kimi-Suomi, it was felt especially hard. Even as Jalkapallo was in the middle of their best era by far, all it did was make Jääkiekko look even worse. It was a hard blow for Hannes Lehtonen to take after everything he's thrown at this program, but even with all of that, the Olympialaiset wasn't in vain - it gave the Leijonat more depth and an expanded coaching staff, making everything feel more serious than ever before. With all these new pieces in mind, we throw ourselves into a WCoH we are technically co-hosting, hoping that we can shine in the 2nd Tier.

In Division II of this WCoH, only the Top 4 can advance to the Playoffs, so getting ourselves together against opponents of similar stature will be the most important task over these 9 games. Up first in this new pursuit would be the Polar Bears of Hafamarimët, the home of the NSSCRA Champion Nïlara Pučuk and a nation that just feels on the up in general. We knew that this one was not going to be easy at all, 17th vs 21st usually isn't, but with our supporters backing us to the hilt, we knew that we had everything to fight for. This game was a back-and-forth affair that had no break, hullujenhuone hulluille, and it was as if no one could really grab hold of any momentum in the contest at all. Natalia Summanen, Awak Pirttinen and Kerttu Koivu all scored in the madness, while Tož Vänetka (two) and Tïjet Žalučuk responded in kind. It was looking like OT for sure, but then, in the last stages of the 3rd, Vesa-Matti Juuso found a hole and executed a plan to perfection, winning this game late on. The thrill of this game is undeniable and this opener proved that in spades.

One game down, eight still to go. Natkr will be next to go.

Chromatik Hockey League - Season 1 Preview Part 2

Myana Penguins
Location: Myana, Myana Island
Head Coach: Viktor Saarinen (47)
Key Players:
LW Yuna Petrov (22) - Fast, relentless, excellent in transition; struggles in finishing consistently and sometimes overcommits. Petrov is the speedy winger who makes the team run.
RW Ji-hoon Bauer (22) - A speedy penalty killer whose diminutive stature mean he can be pushed around.
LD Sora Takahashi (21) - A speedy skater and transition defender who may still be developing in strength but makes up for it with pure aggression. She can be the reliable outlet of the puck from pressure.
C Viktor Chevalier (26) - Perhaps the weak part of this group, a serviceable center who may have already sit his ceiling. Still, a solid player.
G Ingrid Vasseur (28) - An established veteran goaltender who remains calm in pressure.
Preview: The Penguins have enough star power on the roster to go far - they need Viktor to step up and lead the way.

Pelar Pylons
Location: Pelar, Rainbow District
Head Coach: Katarina Weiss (45)
Key Players:
LW Hana van Berg (23) - National Team player. A possession-based winger who does her best work in transition, she can hold the puck too long at times and doesn't like contact, but is amazing in space.
RD Anton Weiss (23) - A mobile two-way defenseman who can occasionally be the secondary source of distribution when Sasha is overwhelmed, Weiss can at times overcomplicate things by trying to do too much.
LD Lin Xiaobei (22) - A puck-moving defender who can be creative at times; if she can grow into the role, she could grow into a creative defensive playmaker. With Madsen getting up in age, she is the future.
C Mikhail Orlov (27) - An injury-prone faceoff specialist whose primary job is to get the puck to the wingers.
G Taro Sato (26) - Specializes on rebounds - and is very consistent. Not the best in transition.
Preview: These are the defending champions, and they act like it. The combination of Weiss and Xiaobei make it very hard to even get a shot on Sato.

Tihon Torpedoes
Location: Tihon, Urrhed Island
Head Coach: Sergeri Volkov (52)
Key Players:
C Lukas Sorensen (24) - A purely defensive center and faceoff specialist.
G Ingrid Falk (27) -Technical, positionally elite, and very structures, Falk is a calm customer who thrives under pressure. She contains rebounds, has tremendous composure, and loves to be in the mix. If she does make a mistake, though, it can be streaky - which is the one flaw in her game.
LD Pavel Korhonen (25) - A penalty kill specialist that isn’t the best offensively.
RW Emil Schayer (22) - Loves to stay busy through the entire game and shoot from range.
RD Jari Laaksonen (28) - The veteran of the group, very smart and strong.
Preview: The team nobody wants to face, the Torpedoes are a middle-of-the-road team that can absolutely wreck a contender’s season.

Umbar Argonauts
Location: Umbar, Mountain District
Head Coach: Luca Vermeer (41)
Key Players:
C Erik Koskinen (25) - Not the best in movement, but makes up for it in positioning and cerebral skills. Decent shot, better defender. National team player.
RW Nikolai Petrenko (24) - A scorer through and through who isn’t the best at recovering back but makes up for it with creativity.
LW Claire Laurent (23) - A flashy winger with some flair.
RD Markus Lindholm (27) - A flashy defender who doesn’t mind taking shots, he may be a bit of a liability in penalty kills.
G Kim Dae-Hyun (25) - Athletic with great reflexes, Kim can at times lose in fast breaks.
Preview: Will this finally be the year that the Argonauts make a run?

Urrheddiao Kings
Location: Urrheddiao, Urrhed Island
Head Coach: Akira Sato (44)
Key Players:
C Mei Nakamura (21) - National Team Player. A two-way center who is the best option other than Sasha if they need to score. A strategic option, she can struggle in the biggest of moments, but could be an intriguing choice at times.
RW Viktor Jansen (23) - The second King on the National Team, Jansen is another physical defensive winger who makes up for his speed by being very vocal and physical on defense.
LW Elise Moreau (24) - Excelling in transition, Moreau’s ability to pass comes through in the clutch. She can be a bit inconsistent, though.
RD Tomas Berg (28) - Not the fastest but makes up for it with defensive positioning and leadership.
G Henrik Dahl (26) - Calm and reliable, Dahl is a middling goaltender with the potential to do more.
Preview: The Kings will be another team that needs playoff success to take the next step. They may just have the roster to do it.

Z’ai’ai Abominable Snowmen
Location: Z’ai’ai, Mountain District
Head Coach: Bjorn Nystrom (50)
Key Players:
RD Nils van Dijk (23) - Strong defensively and in blocking shots, van Dijk's job is to simplify chaos and be in the way of the opposition.
C Yuri Makarov (24) - Bright spot on the offensive end to score as many goals as possible by shooting from range.
LW Akemi Tanaka (22) - Creative winger who can sometimes overdo things.
RW Lukas Meyer (23) - Loves to finish in front of the net.
G Viktor Havel (25) - Bit of a liability, Havel isn’t done developing yet… right?
Preview: This is the weakest team in the league, but not without some bright spots.

Aevarea League - Ice Hockey Season 17 - Previews
Image

You play each opponent six times: three away, three at home. Playoffs are best-of-3 with the top six teams qualifying: 3v6 and 4v5 in the first round, with the top two teams earning a bye.

As far as history goes: the sport goes back decades, but the modern, professional, 'Aevarea' era started with a new season one. The playoffs have been around since season 5, so take that into account when you look at the number of playoff appearances.

Our teams are from all over northern Ko-oren. Seven are from the islands off the northeastern coast, five are from the mainland.

Island Teams
Ehbanna: Scouts, Wanderers, Storm, Explorers-Mariners
Rest of the islands: Islanders, Northerners, Vortex

Mainland Teams
East: Hunters, Ice, Elks, Polar Bears
West: Blizzards

The fiercest rivalry is, without a doubt, between the Scouts and Explorers-Mariners. They're the oldest teams of the league, both from downtown Ehbanna, around from well before the Storm and the Wanderers - two expansion teams reflecting the later extensions on the outskirts of the city. Now that these teams have been included in the league for a while, rivalries are building, in particular with the Wanderers, who aren't shy about their ambitions. The Islanders also love to play up their dislike for Ehbanna teams, though the sentiment is one-sided.

As for the mainland, the Ice versus Hunters is probably the second biggest rivalry in the Aevarea League. The third biggest rivalry is likely between the Scouts and the Blizzards; the two biggest, richest, and decorated teams, representing some very different parts of the nation.

ImageWest Coast Blizzards
Stadium: Lacharrailu (10000)
Titles: 3
Playoffs: 9
Rivals:
Projected finish: 1
First Line: Wuddild Ryalerra; Nammya Jirerla, Jumya Miggagun; Ryaddirra Zashara, Koddagana Perral, Vigisaruu Lumjagau
Second Line: Jyojendi Jedou; Gyadigul Sogagun, Losigul Yyommou; Figgall Dyannara, Zenopek Tesenthengun, Hecagana Syorlirla
Third Line: Kyumigana Byunigana; Telamak Maulurugdin, Ahi Aoreoma; Limirla Riddeo, Jyugya Bonneld, Tyoddagun Solimbee
Stars: Nammya Jirerla, Vigisaruu Lumjagau, Ryaddirra Zashara
Best Unit: Defencemen
Coach: Lyujara Noshagun (f), Chun Jaragun

The Blizzards, at this point, haven't won a title in three seasons despite being favourites in most of them. Seaosn 14 had them second, season 15 had them first, and season 16 had them first. That is after titles in seasons 12 and 13, even. And now they're back to the top of the previews once more - it's safe to say that the Blizzards are well and truly a dynasty, even after 'disappointing' results. They'll have to start turning top-of-the-league performances into sufficiently deep playoff runs, or you'll hear rumours that the core of the team has gotten lazy, complacent, that they've won enough with that season 12-13 back to back championship... and now, the rumours are indeed here. Media in Tarrashalli - that's the entire west coast province - as well as fans in the capitals (which are closest to the Blizzards, local fans are sick of capital folk buying up tickets en masse, but that's a different story) - have been urging Noshagun and Jaragun that it's now or never. The regular season is fun to dominate, but if this truly is the team to end all teams in the Aevarea League, it'll have to start turning into silverware before long. It's difficult to say what the alternative is: sacking the coach? Cleaning up the roster? The coach and the roster that are demonstrably steps ahead of the rest of the pack? I mean - you already have the best odds to make a deep run, how do you increase those odds even more? It's true that the Blizzards don't have the best player in the league (though with Jirerla, it's close) but the depth man, the depth... lines two and three are miles ahead of other teams', so the only improvement you could think of is throw an unholy amount of money at... maybe the goalie position?

ImageLamau-Dartha Hunters
Stadium: Tachibana Arena (6300)
Titles: 2
Playoffs: 9
Rivals: Straudum Ice
Projected finish: 2
First Line: Bertus Bitterboom; Somjuel Mokunen, Reinier van Angelwoud; Detger Veldappel, Ebofu Aorofea, IJsbrecht Duzhagun
Second Line: Dieuwert Sorwifen; Theodoor van den Brug, Otaulune Monokudhen; Landana Moderuten, Robbrecht Geneend, Vudoshejuas Vugwegun
Third Line: Nathijuas Dagwevan; Asege Airusi, Aohie Egibinia; Kyarlall Gyonnegul, Aovla Aenil, Nerlimbee Bemmyo
Stars: Bertus Bitterboom, Reinier van Angelwoud, Somjuel Mokunen
Best Unit: Goalie
Coach: Esther Devante (f, NPH)

Lamau-Dartha is back after a minor crisis. Overtaken by the big two Aevanna teams (Scouts, Ex-Ma) and falling behind the Ice, the Polar Bears... but the aging roster is back to proving its value on the back of veterans Bitterboom, Van Angelwoud, Veldappel, all proud Libahitalhaun and/or Mahrkioren products. With Bitterboom they have the best goalie in the league, they have a phenomenal defence as well, and they've built their squad back up from there. Keep what works, change the rest around it - that'd be the arrival of Duzhagun at centre. Devante's job seems safer than it has been for a while, but it depends on whether the Hunters can finish somewhere in the playoff spots. That's the minimum required standard for now.

ImageSerevne Northerners
Stadium: Aurora Centre (6000)
Titles: 1
Playoffs: 7
Rivals:
Projected finish: 3
First Line: Alca Aegumelin; Aomo Eadalin, Aenoi Alrella; Mumalu Bedigelthen, Aoroe Aogosara, Aiaa Aolunelin
Second Line: Asafi Aurea; Emores Aodherudhen, Aohfa Auret; Aevose Aenit, Fyochagana Fissigana, Nokauka Munodin
Third Line: Ursula van Straudum; Aevire Ausgenna, Ahie Aer; Sochara Marall, Tejerla Kitarla, Aehege Aedofise
Stars: Aoroe Aogosara, Aomo Eadalin, Aiaa Aolunelin
Best Unit: Defencemen
Coach: Aobuvu Aohofen (f)

The Northerners have settled into a nice mid-table rhythm, and given this team's means, that's punching above their weight. They keep having the players to make a statement in the playoffs, but for now, it's more a battle of making the playoffs consistently (and not finish 10th in the table, as in season 15). Aohofen's offseason tasks were varied, but come down to one thing: do you build your roster to avoid low lows - to make the playoffs - or do you go for high highs - to win games in which you're not favoured? Both doesn't seem to be an option, we don't all have the same position as the Blizzards, and there's not enough money to chase every free agent out there. So... what'll it be? Make the playoffs boringly but stably, or assume you make the playoffs and spare your team for spectacle once you're there?

ImageSouth Aevanna Storm
Stadium: The Dome (17000)
Titles: 2
Playoffs: 4
Rivals: Aevanna Plains Wanderers
Projected finish: 4
First Line: Danak Sadhrengun; Aulu Aedep, Aodofe Aoalen; Aemu Ainaru, Aesevu Aguea, Aobde Aes
Second Line: Aedana Aobsa; Ikarel Padgandin, Agapu Aubrolin; Aemupu Aisasara, Aologe Aom, Aurao Aegofise
Third Line: Gijs Hilwigaten; Gherard Sorwifen, Egoni Aihivalin; Aevagu Esap, Lilu Shisonra, Esuli Aogag
Stars: Aulu Aedep, Aesevu Aguea, Aobde Aes
Best Unit: Defencemen
Coach: Hiroto Shizuka

The Storm are your reigning champions after being projected sixth ahead of the season. Safe to say that Shizuka inspired his players, led by a transcendant Aedep, cross-passes to Aguea on the left wing, both emerging as absolute top prospects at their positions. The team's job is to figure out how to complement them, and it doesn't feel like the front office did them justice. They were in the position that the Ex-Ma were at a few years prior, but they did spend big bucks to sign every big talent under 23, and they got two straight finals appearances out of it. The Storm can do the same, but it feels like they went for the safe option, and unfortunately the safe option doesn't seem to include another push to challenge the Blizzards again.

ImageAevanna Explorers-Mariners
Stadium: The Dome (17000)
Titles: 1
Playoffs: 3
Rivals: Aevanna Scouts
Projected finish: 5
First Line: Ahici Aomip; Aesivo Aibivea, Aeroci Aoevoma; Hiroka Veisazen, Aduto Aubon, Aiese Aoloma
Second Line: Aonou Aevebara; Ailru Arivalin, Asgu Ann; Adriaan Regenboog, Aovopu Asidinia, Evio Aobib
Third Line: Arnout Gidworwizuten; Dakues Itjujuten, Feiluto Tsuseizein; Mikahes Shadongunen, Dorel Ridionura, Anoru Aohoi
Stars: Hiroka Veisazen, Aiese Aoloma, Aeroci Aoevoma
Best Unit: Centre
Coach: Auri Atirailu

Speaking of, here's the Ex-Ma. They lost last season's final to the Storm but otherwise have had a magnificent three year run: with Veisazen, Aoloma, Aoevoma. Aubon, they have a fantastic young roster. Atirailu's task is to guide a roster with a monumental lack of depth to the playoffs - and the expectations are huge. Not only must the Scouts be grinded into the ground, the Ex-Ma are to establish themselves as the pre-eminent Aevanna team (over the Storm and Wanderers too), and they must challenge the Northerners as best team on the northeastern islands, and they have to show the Blizzards once more that there is, in fact, far more quality here. And then the team forgot to invest, and all of the depth signings that were expected... didn't fall their way. This could be the choke of the century, if they have half the national team under contract but can't make a dynasty out of it because they have barely a second or third line...

ImageAevanna Scouts
Stadium: The Dome (17000)
Titles: 1
Playoffs: 8
Rivals: Aevanna Explorers-Mariners
Projected finish: 6
First Line: Aduse Aedevo; Ushku Shadongudhen, Audupu Aunopial; Aenva Avdu, Aohise Aemenenna, Aogi Aobedos
Second Line: Shurelak Tehithennen; Aemuge Aoruial, Mechyo Dillimbee; Aodni Aohg, Aodo Aolobos, Aubdu Aovufi
Third Line: Asado Aedicenna; Aovbu Aesuso, Aoluta Aacial; Octavia Hazelarend, Yoseo Ferlella, Hilaru Tethauhusoradten
Stars: Aduse Aedevo, Ushku Shadongudhen, Audupu Aunopial
Best Unit: Goalie
Coach: Aelu Aerolan

Then there's the Scouts, who have spent a disgusting amount of money trying to get to the final, and yet they've had to watch their crosstown rivals go there twice in two years, watch the Blizzards emerge as the team of the Aevarea League, even though this entire league was supposed to highlight the Scouts' utter dominance. About that. Sure, the team still has some amazing talent - Aedevo, Shadongudhen, Aunopial, Avdu - all national team candidates or better. But their third unit is graded worst in the league, and if there's anything we've learned from the teams that have come up as contenders in the last decade, it's that depth does win championships.

ImageArboren Vortex
Stadium: The Cathedral (11000)
Titles: 0
Playoffs: 5
Rivals: Egevea Islanders
Projected finish: 7
First Line: Arame Augoven; Avve Aegaren, Dummou Kenish; Rurrindi Fumya, Tsunenori Dobaden, Aoere Aegomenna
Second Line: Aeopa Asar; Ago Aove, Bernlef Egjedin; Shapas Parenanen, Ailoa Agidolin, Zommy Tyotagana
Third Line: Kyacharla Jitigul; Etbo Sethraden, Godhiwouth Mutwiten; Aevagu Alet, Aemapa Aoatenna, Aehido Aesaure
Stars: Aoere Aegomenna, Arame Augoven, Dummou Kenish
Best Unit: Defencemen
Coach: Aeromu Aelilure, Kilu Telain

The Vortex are in the position to show that they have a right to be in the playoffs. Not a bad team, not a great one, decent depth. Aegomenna and Augoven - centre and goalie - are top 10 players in Ko-oren... but then they've failed to surround them with good support. Aelilure and Telain won't really be punished for what goes on, as the fans have already decided that money and failure to sign needed players are the problem. The coaches are fine, it's all the front office's fault. Arboren's bracing for failure already, and the season's yet to start.

ImageEgevea Islanders
Stadium: The Boombox (8500)
Titles: 1
Playoffs: 1
Rivals: Arboren Vortex
Projected finish: 8
First Line: Alii Aennalin; Aolare Aemo, Auhege Amnure; Aerca Aedeise, Indos Maulahngannen, Aihiu Aeleara
Second Line: Ennu Aosdu; Aisa Ebepa, Aeroi Aogus; Sosigana Kyaleo, Aogepe Abig, Gertrude Nalegagun
Third Line: Aidofu Auvomea; Jannimbee Jyanash, Aogude Aulg; Kyanyo Hyagyo, Aonoru Aovufolin, Auloo Anevure
Stars: Aihiu Aeleara, Auhege Amnure, Gertrude Nalegagun
Best Unit: Centre
Coach: Tom Finngeirsson (GRÆ)

Egevea exist mostly in a vacuum these days. There were a few half-hearted attempts to make something, they landed Aeleara in that massive boom of young talent (like half the top 50 players in the league are under 25), but saw all the other great players sign with the Ex-Ma, Blizzards, Scouts, etc.

ImageMahrkioren Elks
Stadium: The Bunker (8400)
Titles: 1
Playoffs: 4
Rivals: Launott Polar Bears, Straudum Ice
Projected finish: 9
First Line: Christine Mugwowi; Alard Hilwigaten, Aedeti Aenec; Hanwaas Degwadwizegun, Iljadwizeak Hurujuvan, Ajejevuel Mera
Second Line: Vikhorwizuan Gulwigara; Wolfram Senveld, Junzō Sipauzhen; Roshauka Ishonjorigun, Merten Merelabeel, Johannes Nerjugun
Third Line: Yunull Wyurlegul; Fommash Humou, Logwekwolauk Vedwegun; Dieuwert Mutwiten, Sizhurwaari Hakwinau, Aosuci Aomecara
Stars: Iljadwizeak Hurujuvan, Alard Hilwigaten, Aedeti Aenec
Best Unit: Defencemen
Coach: Floris van Overheem

The Elks are three years away from their title now, and they're still relishing it. There's little pressure, no urgency, but there's still a belief that this team isn't that far away from success. The power rankers disagree, mostly because of a lack of star power (maybe Hurujuvan, big maybe).

ImageStraudum Ice
Stadium: Marten Kuijper Stadion (12500)
Titles: 1
Playoffs: 7
Rivals: Lamau-Dartha Hunters, Mahrkioren Elks
Projected finish: 10
First Line: Dieboud Sizura; Aghata Rozenden, Aebubu Aol; Nobuharu Fivosein, Reinier Regenboog, Tiele van April
Second Line: Helena van Honingsweg; Ahuse Aegoen, Suzanne Oginjorigun; Mikako Sasatein, Rozaina Madekavan, Matheus Numjegaufen
Third Line: Nofiwoek Dudjifen; Roliari Likjujaten, Goswijn Honojevuthen; Rembrand Mumjokanen, Wijnand Honojevuthen, Joanne Munjejaten
Stars: Reinier Regenboog, Tiele van April, Nobuharu Fivosein
Best Unit: Centre
Coach: Jeanne-Luce Varelin (f, QUE)

How far the Ice have fallen. Once the counterweight to the Blizzards and Scouts, now a thoroughly midtable team with a minor shot at making the playoffs. The depth situation isn't great, there's little creativity on the team in general, the gameplan is firmly installed but it's a strict plan that might well hold the team back at this point.

ImageLaunott Polar Bears
Stadium: Jonsson's Backyard (7900)
Titles: 3
Playoffs: 7
Rivals: Mahrkioren Elks
Projected finish: 11
First Line: Hemiweuk Satwedwize; Aneta Anuroma, Gethejaina Motwikavan; Vevowouk Rudwudin, Teteo Tyorregul, Edward Heuvelarend
Second Line: Amfa Aemul; Halkoe Monidhen, Aebira Auruara; Ado Aig, Reinare Veldnoot, Ulogwelael Ludagun
Third Line: Anobe Aducise; Didhadhan Gagepunau, Aevose Aelmure; Karthak Tehauthen, Natimbee Lisseo, Aohse Aohubo
Stars: Aneta Anuroma, Teteo Tyorregul, Edward Heuvelarend
Best Unit: Wingers
Coach: Marten Kuijper

The Polar Bears have some massive investment to do in the starting VI. The raters have their best player at 30th in the entire league (you'd expect a team to have at least 2-3 players in that span) and that player is Anuroma. The second best? 58th-ranked Tyorregul. Yikes.

ImageAevanna Plains Wanderers

Stars: Connagana Kyachegana, Aebalu Aeima, Darjejauth Lakwura

For the Wanderers it's back to the drawing board and hope you get a team that amounts to something before relocation rumours start back up...

THIS IS HOCKEY!

Hello and welcome back after the break, if you’re just tuning in on SportCentral I’m Desmond to bring you the latest sports news. MD1 has just concluded and the team suffers a heavy loss. A 0–5 loss to Pius Desurongcrandis. Here’s Head Coach Hernandez on the loss.

“Wow, the was harsh. We just couldn’t get into rhythm. Hector was left alone on the defensive side as our defense was overwhelmed. We just couldn’t make anything happen”

*Interviewer* “How do you plan to bounce back from this?”

“It’s going to be a challenge with the low morale after this loss, but good rest and a bit of practice before the game will get our guys ready to go out tomorrow for MD2.”

Laurenzo Wilfrid was taken off the ice in the 2nd period after a collision. Reports are saying that he should be ready for tomorrow after suffering from minor bruises.

"So let me get this straight, there are groups at this World Cup of Hockey but they are not really groups? We are in what is being called a division with the ten highest ranked entries into the competition this edition when we are having games on back to back days throughout the first stage of the tournament all while having to travel wildly across the world to make the venue for these games? Like they are not even going to be in a host nation, we are bouncing all around the planet, basically boarding the plane the moment that the game is over to get to the destination on time for the fixture on the very next day, is that all correct?"

"Uhh, yeah that about sums it up yeah, exactly what is going to be happening in this edition of the tournament. Definitely is going to be a style that is going to have massive implications when it comes to the rankings afterwards, the top ranked teams are not going to be able to rack up the rankings points in the same way while the middle and low ranked, even the unranked teams, are going to benefit from the massive amount of points they will not be having on offer. Not entirely sure how the Federation let this slip through the cracks without that much of a debate, seems like a bit of an oversight to just kinda ignore during the entire bidding process. I am sure they reviewed it though and it got the stamp of approval, so there is bound to be a plan."

"Well in the idea that there is a plan and everything is completely above board, got to feel like the Calcuttas are going to have a bit of a difficult time with it after they failed to really impress in the last edition. Though after the previous run of three titles in four editions, there was no doubt going to be a lull at some point where the team's performance was going to drop if only by a little bit, tis simply the way of things. Once you start to get too comfortable at the top, there is less of a need to constantly press to be at your very best, especially when it then coincides with two of your biggest rivals having left the sport and then another two this edition did not enter for some reason or another. The lack of those rivalry games against Gyatso-kai, Elejamie, Quebec, and of course Siovanija & Teusland really feels like it took a bit of the passion and intensity out of the team as much as having been the best in the sport for near on a decade without all that much of a challenge. Last edition will hopefully serve as a wake up call for those who have grown too comfortable to their spots on the team and the presumed success they think comes with being on the team."

"Perhaps, perhaps this oddity of a format will be the sort of thing to rouse them to the occasion as well. Even with the big of a weird set up, there are some perks to it as the eight best records in the group are going to be advancing to the knockout stages and you would bet your life that the Calcuttas are like as not to finish in that top eight. Only the top four of the group of the next ten ranked teams makes it through, while only the top two teams in the two other groups are going to progressing out of there. The challenge will have never been more difficult, that is for certain, yet the stakes have probably been at their lowest with all that in mind. And with the top ranked Nova Calania not even entering into the edition, the field will definitely feel a lot more wide open, ourselves and Zenic are going to be the teams who will feel like we have the best shot of taking the title. Add in the absence of Elejamie and Squornshelous and this really is a top heavy group even if it is the top ten ranked teams. Excusing the matches against Zenic and Kelssek, there will be no reason not to consider ourselves as favorites for the other seven games and if we play to that level, should be there near the top of things once it all comes to close regardless of the novel way everything is setting up. Depth is going to be key and few could argue to be as deep as we."

Please don't ask Grover Per about the Frozen Survivors' first match at the WCoH after becoming champions.

To start off the 56th World Cup of Hockey, the number two in the world and defending champions Zenic were pitted against the number three in the world and previous champions Valanora. It was as close to a nightmare situation as Per could have ever dreamed up, especially for a team known to get off to slow starts at international competitions. Per and Surya would aim for a win but would most likely need contingencies for another opening match loss.

That WAS their thought process headed into their first group stage match. All that went straight out the arena when the first period ended in a 3-3 deadlock with the Vanorians. What were they to do? Keep on the strategy that gave up three goals in 20 minutes but also allowed them to score an equal amount in the same timeframe? Or switch it up and hope it doesn't backfire? Zenic decided to stay the course and, in the immediate, it seemed the wrong choice. Valanora outscored Zenic 2-1 in the second period to climb to a 5-4 lead with one period left. 'Surely, NOW was the time to try something different?' was what the Frozen Survivors' staff knew people would be thinking and yelling from the stands, the tv studios, and living rooms across the world. But Zenic didn't really make big changes unless absolutely necessary.

Their opponents were able to add another goal to make it 6-4 as Zenic were looking for their groove once more. They found it with 6 minutes left in the match when they made it 6-5. They eventually equalized with 4 minutes left and came close once or twice to winning the match in regulation in the final 2 minutes. The Vanorians also came close but both squads came up just short. Overtime, at a bare minimum, would be required to determine a victor.

Overtime was more of the same for the first 4 minutes and many watching the match were anticipating a shootout. The Zenicians had other plans. Eventually, with strategic planning, Per was able to get the 'Power Play First Unit' onto the ice (despite it not being a power play situation). It did, however, give them their best shot at winning. Ovidia Ellis was able to pass the puck around with Wulfstan Angelus and Scarlett Yvon while Meino Marjan stayed a little back near the blue line and Vlastimir Tomislav hung out around the goal. Eventually, Ellis was able to swap sides with Angelus and take a gamble by ripping off a shot at goal once she saw Tomislav screening the goaltender. If Per had to guess, he assumed that everyone else assumed that Tomislav was going to redirect the shot so when he didn't, Ellis' shot was free to fly straight into goal for the game winner.

A 7-6 win was a hell of a score for a champion's first match back: to do it against the second highest ranked team in the tournament was historic, even if it required an extra period of ice hockey. It did, however, bring up some new issues Per and co would need to deal with. First, the OT win was worth less than a regulation win so they were 5th in 'Division I' instead of higher. Second, the coaching staff now had to rush and see if this level of offense and lapse in defense were temporary or the first signs of impending issues. Zenic had won their lone championship by netting 6 against the United States of Nova Calania but that amount of goals was more of a once every 5 or 6 matches kind of deal. Back to back games with that level of offense was not really a thing for this squad. Third, they had to replicate success of that nature or better against 8 other teams ranked in the top 15 in the world.

Thankfully, for Per at least, was their next opponent was a familiar foe: fellow Rushmoris, Darmen. Their incoming opponents fell 4-1 to TJUN-ia but that did not signify that this second match of the group / division stage would be a breeze. Unless this offense was the real deal and Per only had to fix the defense, which just so happened to be his specialty.

Regardless, Zenic were going to go into this match expecting it to be a hard-hitting battle between offensive and defensive ideologies: the type of matchup that Zenic specialized in.

What To Expect When You’re Expecting To Visit Kordavia: Weather

Kordavia is one of the few countries in the world to have won more Winter Olympic medals than Summer (though, unfortunately for this tournament, it’s the summer field hockey team who’s had more success). As such, you will be unsurprised to learn Kordavia is generally a fairly cold country, with a permanent snowline in the Sun Spine mountains and the Klara Massif, and icebergs off the shores of the fjords on the southwestern coast. Winters bring heavy snowfall, with the regime advertising the many medieval castles still standing in Kordavia dusted with snow like gingerbread fantasies, and making somewhat less news of the frozen fields making the grinding work at collective farms and labour camps even more brutally harsh.

That said, this tournament is being played in the summer, in order to allow players from domestic leagues across Rushmore and beyond to be made available for national teams, so conditions in Kordavia for those sixteen teams that make the finals should be a little more pleasant outside. Don’t expect extreme heat, but unless you head into the mountains in search of skiing, snow is unlikely. Temperatures along the coast will be more bracing, especially when battered by the swirling winds that come in off the Southern Oceans, but inland reasonable warmth and a little humidity can be expected.
NS stats not canon.

People move away, grow older, die, and the bright belief that there will be another marvellous thing around each corner fades. It is now or never, we must snatch at happiness as it flies. J.L. Carr, A Month in the Country

Pomachetti into World Cup of Hockey

"Good evening. I'm Íebhe Cielleogh and you're watching the eight o'clock news with TVT Naecht. The depressing news: Pomachetti knocked out of World Cup of soccer. After a six - two defeat at La Fantáss to world cup finalists Tanirinthia, Pomachetti has finished bottom of Group C. After an inspiring two consecutive draws to soccer giants Edsmontik and Kimi-Suomi, Pomachetti unfortunately fell short to 5th ranked Tanirinthia. Although Pomachetti's World Cup campaign has come to an end, the soccer team was welcomed back as heroes. Despite this loss, their campaign was still an incredible success: Baptism of Fire Champions and debut qualifiers is a feat that is extraordinary and exceptionally rare. The Pomachettians returned home as heroes from Farfadillis. Arriving in Mophto Airport, the Pomachettian National Soccer Team were welcomed by ecstatic fans."

-------------------------
Antoon charges team into a loss
Saperetia 0-2 Canadian Dominion

Returning multiple cycles after their debut in international sports, the Saperetian nation sets its sights again on the sport where it all began: hockey. The team had a relatively mediocre showing in 47, with Blanchard leading the team into a 5-point showing over 7 games. Antoon has a bit more to work with, as this edition will have viewers see teams on the ice 9 times. Expectations for the team led by the former football star are therefore a bit higher than the debut cycle, but not many are believing in the ability to go far. Perhaps this will be a one-time showing, perhaps this is the start of a long adventure. Whatever the future holds, the now is now, and the Saperetians are lining up against the Canadians at the National Arena.

The team, playing internationally for the first time in such a composition, manage to keep themselves relatively composed this game. A back-and forth game that most people say could have gone either way was marked by both sides managing to fail to score on many occasions, even when they should have. The difference between them was that one actually did manage to find the net by the end of the first, with the Canadians coming upon a goal in the last quarter of the period. Despite the score changing, the way of the match did not much in the second, as both sides managed a myriad of missed oppourtinities in that period aswell. It wasa gains the Canadians who managed to find another in the latter stages of the second aswell. The third period was marked by a different style of play, as the Saperetians charged into a somewhat desperate attack to attempt to claw the game back, while the Canadians went on the defensive to try and keep their lead. unfortunately, no-one in the Saperetian side managed to get one back, finishing the game in a disappointing 0-2.

It was not the start the team, Antoon, or the nation had hoped for, but which historically has been expected. Every first match of every tournament in every sport, we have failed to win. The hope now is that a bounce back is possible in the other eight games to finish somewhat respectably in the standings. If the hockey fans are as cut-throat as the fans in football, then Antoon should know that a bad result may see this be both his first and last stint with the squad.

Cutoff for MD2.

I will find a 3rd party scorinator for my game and edit in the result. Message me if available! Thanks to Zwangzug.

The tables are complicated to do because xkoranate does not manually output OTW/OTL correctly, so I have to make them manually, and will be taking care to ensure no errors. I will post the results when ready, then edit in the tables later. Thanks!

NS stats not canon.

“After starting the 56th World Cup of Hockey ranked 17th, the Hafamari national team immediately lost the first two games.” Ïnuh recognized the voice of TVH Sport’s top hockey reporter Pnejko Gädarčuk and absentmindedly checked the volume on the tv furthest from the door, the tv constantly playing hockey, but it was muted as it was supposed to be. Puzzled, he looked around the mostly-empty bar. The third game wasn't until later in the evening, so it made no sense to be hearing Pnejko’s voice right now. Except - no, it couldn't be…

“Too harsh?” Well, apparently it could be. Pnejko Gädarčuk, sitting right at the bar, apparently working on the script for the next segment of his show and asking Ïnuh for his opinion. Ïnuh struggled to speak. “Uh no? Well, yes, but you can't sit there in that seat, it's for uh…”

“Don't be weird,” came the half-playful half-serious interjection from Ïnuh’s coworker Domina as she placed a pint of dark beer in front of Pnejko. “That old guy hasn't been here in like a year.”

“If I'm in someone else's seat, I'll gladly move,” smiled Pnejko. He was just as gorgeous in real life as he was on TV. Not more gorgeous, Ïnuh thought, and it was always weird when people said stuff like that. He's the same person whether he's in front of a camera or a bartender.

“No, not really anymore I guess,” Ïnuh said. “There used to be this guy, he came in every day for like, I don't know, fifty years? Probably not that long. Anyway he always sat there, always watched hockey so I guess it's a little ironic that you're sitting there. But it's fine though, you don't need to move. We haven't seen him in a long time.”

“He was like. Super old, so honestly I kind of don't think he's still alive,” Domina added. “But nobody ever knew his name so we can't like, check obituaries or google him or anything.”

“Yeah. It's kind of sad, I talked to him a lot. Mostly about hockey, he was kind of a private guy, and I never asked his name. The last time I saw him was when we got knocked out of the World Cup of Hockey 54. It's just weird he never came back after that. Anyway, you're busy, sorry for rambling,” Ïnuh stuttered as he went to pick up Pnejko's mostly full glass as if it were empty. “Oh sorry, you're definitely not done with that yet, sorry.”

Pnejko smiled as Ïnuh walked away. It was obvious he didn't have an objective other than getting away from the conversation. Pnejko got the feeling, and he hoped he was right, that it was because Ïnuh was attracted to him moreso than just starstruck. Either way, Pnejko knew how to finish his next segment now.

Chromatik Hockey League - Season 1 Round 1

Points after 11 Games:
Myana Penguins - 19 (9-1-1)
Chromia Lancers - 19 (9-1-1)
Pelar Pylons - 15 (7-3-1)
Umbar Argonauts - 15 (7-3-1)
Felswyr Glaciers - 13 (6-4-1)
Tihon Torpedoes - 13 (6-4-1)
Urrheddioa Kings - 12 (6-5-0)
Anfanhar Desperados - 11 (5-5-1)
Lhor Peregrine Falcons - 8 (3-6-2)
Z’ai’ai Abominable Snowmen - 8 (3-6-2)
Chromia Knights - 7 (3-7-1)
Felswyr Viceroys - 7 (2-6-3)

Myana sits atop the table, having won nine of the first eleven - losing once in overtime to the Lancers and getting shut out by the Falcons. Conceding just six goals the entire first round, the play of Vasseur has been stellar - though it should be Petrov and Bauer getting most of the credit.

Chromia Lancers are in second, led by Sasha. They play every game close, win by scoring, and only lost to Anfanhar in the early going. Their ability to win one-goal games so far bids well for the postseason, but conceding sixteen goals so far is an issue.

Pelar and Umbar sit at fifteen points apiece. The Pylons have been unspectacular yet good enough, relying on their defense more than the attack. They will need more from their transition play. Umbar, on the other hand, has surprised a lot of opponents. The way that they’re scoring almost at will is the biggest surprise so far - but can they keep it up?

The Glaciers have struggled a bit, but their defense makes them as strong as ever, often times choking out the opposition; Tihon remains the same, even if a bit more defensive than even the Glaciers. They are punching above their weight, and it shows. Urrheddiao isn’t scoring enough to their billing, while Anfanhar has been the biggest disappointment - the defense struggling to hold up their end of the bargain.

Not much to say about the bottom four, though the Knights are most likely to be the one to make some noise of these four. Seven round left to go, but it’s been a good start to the season so far.

"What if we're looking at this all wrong?" Grover Per's words stopped the staff meeting in its tracks.

The Frozen Survivors' staff were having a strategy meeting at The Big Igloo in-between their second WCoH match against Darmen and their upcoming third WCoH match against Calgasia. The defending champions had just come off of their second straight win where Zenic had scored 7 or more goals but also allowed 5 to 6 goals in each match. This squad was normally participating in 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, 4-2, etc., type of matches so 7-6 in OT followed by 9-5 in regulation was not normal and they trying to figure out what was going on.

"What do you mean, coach?," someone asked.

Grover Per was reclining in a seat slightly off to the left of a giant chalkboard the staff were using; everyone else in the room were closer to the right side of said chalkboard. "Think of it this way: what's the core responsibility of the defense as a whole? Just the true essence of 'defense', whenever you hear the word?"

"To keep the score low."

"Wrong. That's a philosophy of defense but it's not defense at its true core. Boiled down to its true definition, the defenders and goaltenders have one job: keep the other team from scoring as many goals as their own team can. And what has our defense managed to due in these last two games?" Per paused as he waited for a response.

"Keep our opponents from scoring more goals than we did," everyone, aside from Surya, said in unison.

"Exactly. You're also seemingly discounting another important factor: who we're facing. If we were doing this consistently against squads from the lower divisions, then I would agree that something needs to change sooner rather than later. At the moment? We currently lead the toughest division in this edition of the World Cup of Hockey and have scored the most goals out of anyone so far against squads that follow the simple motto 'You want to be the best, you have to beat the best'. Maybe we'll have another match of this quality against Calgasia: maybe we'll win 5-0 for our first shutout. Who truly knows? All we can control is give our defense the best shot at stopping the other team from scoring more goals than our offense can muster up."

The other looked at each other. The logic was somewhat sound but uncommon to be coming from Per's mouth. Normally, this would be an Anat Surya type of teaching moment. They suddenly all looked at Surya in unison. "Don't look at me. There's a reason he's the head coach." Per simple smiled and pointed at the chalkboard. The board was wiped and their focus shifted from fixing the defense to helping the defense limit Calgasia's offensive output.

Everyone was giving Zenic their absolute best: Per was more than glad to keep on returning the favor.
