“Thirty-five yard-line, he’s got the football, he’s on the move. Looking for the right lane, cuts inside, makes one miss, to the twenty, the ten, leaps into the end zone, TOUCHDOWN!!”
The commentators had a great time commenting as one of the South Newlandia Floofers managed to find the end zone with a toy football. The Floofers would end up winning the Puppy Bowl, scoring a great many touchdowns and having plenty of naps and playtime as well. The Ranoria Floof Potatoes also won the Puppy Bowl, and so did the spectators. That’s how a Puppy Bowl works.

In far less important news, the Elephants also took on the Snow Bears/Krauts for a spot in the World Bowl Quarterfinals. There was much less scoring in this one, this being a polite way to say that both Yadav and Flowers did their best puppy bowl hydration impression. Dante Flowers has a bit of an excuse, however, as the cunning Robert Victorino had a trick up his sleeve. The snekky Ellies had tapped into their Istria contacts and had successfully argued that the puppies from the puppy bowl should get to watch the game as well.
So far, so normal, but the South Newlandian contingent had been able to get the stadium crew in Istria to place the puppies behind the end zone at the backs of the Ranorian players throughout the game, moving them every time a quarter ended. This meant that while the South Newlandian players were always able to keep the puppers in sight, and were motivated to advance down the field, the Ranorian players occasionally seemed distracted, craning their necks to spot the puppers that, to put it lightly, weren’t the quietest spectators. Flowers notably appeared distracted by a floof potato or another during both of his interceptions, including the ultimately game-changing one in the second half. The Ranorian QB had been looking for a screen to Jannik Nadine, only for Alani Sörens to jump the route and take the ball to the endzone untouched before gifting the ball to the same puppy that had been awarded “Most Rambunctious Pup” not even half an hour earlier.

On the other side of the ball, Scott Yadav was routinely getting annihilated by the ever-stingy Ranorian defense as they were trying to get off the field to get more puppy watchtime in. Trevyon Specter had three sacks, and Charles Raleigh secured an interception that led to a chip-shot Ranorian field goal. Yadav was held to less than 100 yards, completed barely 40% of his pass attempts, and was sacked a total of six times. The Elephants offense would up launching 8 punts, never attempted a field goal, did not score a single point, and ultimately won the game to advance to the Quarterfinals, where the Iron Legion await, itching to get revenge on the Pachyderms for four years ago.

#8 Mar Sara Night Elves @ #1 Dukuma Dragons. Game played on Saturday at 4:00 PM.

It was not a surprise that the two teams not in Banija still in the playoffs, when drawn against each other, will get the Saturday afternoon game. But despite that decision, it is still a very fascinating matchup. The Night Elves had a strong win last week, putting up 47 points, and they go on the road to the Busoga Islands, to face the top-seeded Dukuma Dragons. The Busogans are having their sporting moment right now- last few cycles saw their national soccer team make 2 of the last 3 World Cups, we've seen the Islamic U make some serious runs in the NSCF the past few years, and now, we've got the Dragons trying to show that they can compete at the very highest level. And hey- 13 wins, the only team in the league to do that. They've earned home field advantage throughout the playoffs- but can they put it to good use against Mar Sara?

This game was the dictionary definition of chaos. The Night Elves, whose high-powered offense led them to scoring 47, tried to continue the momentum from the previous week by building on their success. They road to a huge playoff victory over the Cobras on the backs of their high-powered, elite offense- and tried to use a similar strategy. And while they were able to move the bill pretty damn well, it was their ability to finish drives that frustrated their ambitions. When you are going on the road, against the #1 seed, you want to be scoring touchdowns- instead of kicking a deluge of field goals. But 4 red zone trips only yielded a singular touchdown, as they scored field goals on three different drives that ended inside the 20 yard line. They take pride in their red zone execution, but on this day, it was simply not there. Veteran QB Craig Juniper, who usually can find those tight windows, had nowhere to throw in those moments.

As for the Dragons, they didn't have as many scoring drives- and a nightmare performance from their kicker- but they scored four touchdowns on the day. While they don't have maybe the traditional starpower of a #1 seed, they have underrated talent that fully takes advantage of their opportunities. Dexter Jacobson is the picture-perfect example of a game manager quarterback- but sometimes, guys are capable of stepping up and playing beyond their regular capabilities. Samo Sarr, their do-everything W1, was absolute elite- nearly 130 receiving yards, on 8 catches, and a pair of TDs as he really put the Night Elves secondary in hell. An elite performance from an elite player. The Dragons, in particular, have a great ability to run the football. Tombong Jate got some big holes, and continuously was hitting them with speed and precision- allowing the Dragons to continue moving the ball.

But their kicker had a horrific day. Who would've thought an art school kid would be the guy for a team with legit title aspirations? But Wasa Tiyana was just 2 for 4 on PATs, missing the last two- both wide left. He also missed his only field goal attempt of the day, hitting wide right on a 49 yard field goal attempt, early in the fourth quarter. That left us with a tie game towards the end of the game, with scores level at 26-26. A frustrating one for Dukuma fans- but would it give way to a dramatic finish?

Busogan TV commentator wrote:It's the final play of the game, and there are just 3 seconds left. Tied at 26-26, Dukuma have the football at the Mar Sara 44 yard line. It'd be a 61 yard field goal- if they had Dwayne Markseon as their kicker, they'd maybe attempt it, but Wasa Tiyana- especially after the game he had today- is surely not going to be brought out for this kick. They are going to try a Hail Mary. Jacobson can certainly reach the end zone from here, and we'll see if they can hit a miracle play- although likely, we are getting overtime here on the Busoga Islands. Jacobson is gonna go out, and he's in the gun- two WRs to each side, with an extra blocker- which, fair enough. You don't want the Night Elves going crazy on defense and going the other way.

The ball is snapped. Jacobson drops back, and rolls right. He has all the time in the world- and heaves one towards the back corner of the end zone... AND IT'S CAUGHT! OKWAYI KYEBANJA HAS RISEN UP, BROUGHT THE FOOTBALL DOWN, FOR THE BIGGEST CATCH IN DUKUMA DRAGONS HISTORY!!! TOUCHDOWNNNNNNNNNN TO THE DRAGONS, WE'VE COMPLETED THE HAIL MARY- WE ARE GOING TO THE SEMIFINALS!!

A Hail Mary to end a playoff game?? Absolutely insane. Is Dukuma truly the team of destiny?

Dukuma Dragons 32–26 Mar Sara Night Elves

#5 Lwanga Rhinos @ #4 Mukeruzi Hyenas. Game played on Saturday at 8:15 PM.

Can you defeat the excitement of the game that we had on Saturday afternoon? Ending on a Hail Mary? Of course not. While the South Division has been dominated by headlines of star players from Hoima (Jack Hoy, A-MV) and the Busukuma Suns (Horace Horton, RRJ), there is a reminder that the Mukeruzi Hyenas were the team that actually won the division title. With superstar WR Kasozi Batte as the WR1, and even with a very old Emilee Johansson (age 38!) at quarterback, they've got a heck of a squad, filled with veterans. And even other guys who are maybe unsung heroes- Oliver Fal as the HB is pretty talented, even if Thomas Hall overlooked him for the World Bowl roster. Arbas Isler, their slot WR, was a starter on the Busogan national team, and he'd probably still be playing at the World Bowl if the Busogans had continued to send a team to the tournament.

They are similar to the Rhinos in a lot of ways- underrated cities, certainly overlooked in their division, and of course- both teams won 12 games. But on this day, there was no similarities between the two sides- the Hyenas quickly established dominance, and ran home with this. How did it work? Well, it helps when you've got a two-time gold medalist Olympic sprinter who is your WR1. Kasozi Batte, on the very first play, beat his defender on a double move, and Johansson threw a perfect ball, in stride, over everybody's head. Batte caught the pass, and ended up high-stepping into the end zone, on the first play of the game, for what was a 71 yard touchdown.

Start there, and just go from there. Midway through the second quarter, the Hyenas were up 17-0 at home, with Oliver Fal having a rushing touchdown, and Chromatik EDGE rusher, Miyata Izanagi, getting a strip sack turnover that helped lead to that exact moment. After going up 17-0, the game, functionally, was largely over. While the Rhinos did eventually get their offense going, the closest the margin ever was between the two teams, after that, was 10 points. Everytime the Rhinos scored- the Hyenas would continuously answer. Lwanga had no answers for the Mukeruzi offenses, which had 8 different scoring drives. A one-sided affair all the way, as Mukeruzi would roll, with a final score of 44-21.

#10 Istria Black Mambas @ #2 Mynda Gorillas. Game played on Sunday at 3:00 PM.

And now, for the Sunday games. A pair of huge ones- the Istria Black Mambas, once again on the road, against the 2nd seeded Mynda Gorillas. A highly anticipated game- how will the high-powered Istria offense perform against this Mynda squad? While at the skill positions, the Black Mambas certainly have the Gorillas beat, in the trenches- it is Mynda that are the dominant team between the two. "Mynda's best shot, even at home, is just for their offensive line to maul Istria, across all fronts." Said a Banijan TV commentator before the game. "It's hard to slow them down in man coverage, but if they get Odika out of rhthym, keep putting him on the ground, etc... That's their best chance."

It's Mynda's offensive line that is their biggest advantage- and their ability to get some strong time of possession in a way that will give them a major advantage. That was the strategy they went for- and on defense, they tried to build a strategy around getting significant amounts of pressure on the quarterback. How do you build this strategy? Around Urk McCauley. He is their longtime defensive tackle, a former stud at NMU, although he is now 36 years old. But sometimes, you've got to turn back the clock if you want to make a run- and McCauley randomly decided to maybe have his best game of the season- of the last few seasons. Just an absolute terror up front- an interior DT with 8 tackles on the day? His constant demand for double teams allowed others in the front 7 plenty of opportunities to get pressure, and they did exactly that.

Kadesh Odika was hit 23 times on the day- 6 of those sacks. "Football games are both won, and lost, at the line of scrimmage." Said Usian Shomari, the team's rookie starting center. "If we can stop them at the line, throw them off their rhythm, and then set the tone on O- that gives us a chance. We don't need all those fancy names on O to win in the playoffs." The Gorillas scored four times on the day, kicking three field goals and having a touchdown, their lone TD being on a QB sneak by Dukku Banyuse. But what was most notable, was how they tamed one of the league's most high-powered offenses. The Black Mambas, in the biggest game of the season, were held to just 212 yards of total offense- just being physically dominated at the point of attack all game long.

It was pictured perfectly, on the Black Mambas final offensive play of the game. Down 16-10, driving to try and win. 1:11 left, they had a 4th & 3, with no timeouts, at their own 44 yard line. Odika in the gun. Season on the line. Catching the snap in the shotgun- and somehow, linebacker Biji Ga, was running, unblocked, towards the quarterback. Odika has to shake him in the backfield, and the man who had been open, Marcel Schlachter, was covered. Odika scrambling backwards to avoid the pressure, just had to heave a prayer- that was easily knocked down by Ole Bakker. An upset by some, but a huge, defining win for the Gorillas- who now will play at home, next week, for a chance to go to the Simba Bowl.

#11 Hoima Zebra @ #3 Duntho Oilers. Game played on Sunday at 6:30 PM.

And now last, but certainly not least- the Sunday night game. You've got Hoima, against the 3rd seed Duntho Oilers. Hoima are the only wild card left, as division winners with byes are 3-0 so far this weekend. But the Oilers, in so many ways, believe that they are a match for the Zebra. "Look, there's a reason we won our division- we are one of the best teams in this league." Said their Busogan tight end, Ucan Yilmaz. "I know everyone talks about Hoima's talent, with A-MV and what not- but we've got elite talent, too. Viktor Rowles can ball. Maurie Troy is dominant on defense. Bamara Taje is still about it. And we're at home, against the best gridiron fans in the whole damn world. Let's go."

What, exactly, was going to be the strategy for the Oilers on this day? Well, trust their front 7 to contain Hoy- and then make A-MV beat you. And for the first half, it was an excellent strategy. A-MV's own NT teammate, Viktor Rowles, had an excellent game in the first half, throwing for 177 yards, and a pair of touchdowns, in the opening two periods alone. One TD pass was to Bamara Taje, and the other one was to Abdou Goro, their rookie WR out of the University of Kitara. But it was on defense, where they really stood out. Maurie Troy, in particular, was flying everywhere. "We've got the best LB corps in the entire league- and we know they want to run the ball." Said Sidy Guisse, a starting OLB for the Oilers. "We've got to put ourselves in position to repeatedly disrupt their offense, and just grind them to a halt." The entire first half, the Zebra offense just could not do anything at all. They had only one drive where they got inside the opponent's 30 yard line, and even then, only got a 42 yard field goal out of it. Not a single red zone play.

But the biggest play of the first half, came at the end. Oilers up, 14-3, and driving. At home, if they had scored a TD to go up 18 at half- this is turning into a rout. But they got inside the 20- and then Kang In-Yeung made a huge play. The Zebra linebacker punched the ball out of Alain Sidibé inside the Zebra 10 yard line, and then fell on the football himself. A huge turnover to shift the momentum right before halftime, although Hoima still trailed, 14-3.

It's rare that games are truly tales of two halves- but this contest, truly was a tale of two halves. The Hoima offense, who was stuck in low gear in the first half, finally started responded well to their opponent's tactics in the second half. The Oilers started with the ball- and they immediately went three & out. Hoima, who had been struggling to establish the run all day, really let A-MV rip. Six play drive, all passing plays. Six completions, for 73 yards. The final throw was a 7 yard strike, in an extremely tight window, to Jannik Nadine, for Hoima's first touchdown of the game. "I loved that the coaching staff, coming out of the half, gave me a shot to get things going." Anne-Maurice Vivayavich told reporters. "It's about getting aggressive, and staying aggressive- and we did just that."

A couple of drives later, the Zebra, with a more balanced offense, had a strong drive that got deep into the red zone. Down 4 points, they faced a 4th & 2, at the Duntho 6 yard line- and they decided to go for it with 3 minutes left in the quarter. "Third quarter, it's tough- but we've got so much trust in this offense." The head coach told reporters. "Ultimately, an easy decision." But the easy decision went all wrong. Duntho EDGE rusher Aubin Rouzet blew past Hoima's rookie left guard, and stuffed Jack Hoy in the backfield for a one yard loss. Turnover on downs. But to Hoima's credit, while that could have been a game-changing play- they ensured it wasn't. They forced a quick three & out to get the ball right back, and against a tired Duntho defense, they were not going to be denied. This time, Jack Hoy used the art of the big play to score, taking a HB toss 27 yards into the end zone, after stiff-arming Duntho's strong safety right at the first down marker.

17-14 to the visitors, headed into the fourth. The game devolved back into a defensive battle, with both teams getting stop after stop. But with 2:50 left, it was the Hoima defense who called game. Lennard Thompson got a strip sack on Viktor Rowles, on a 2nd & 3, that was picked up by DT Bryan Hilbrand, and returned to the Duntho 8 yard line. Very next play, Jack Hoy was bowling over smaller Duntho players for his second TD of the game, and the team's 3rd. 24-14 with under 3 minutes left, and that was a wrap- the final score.

Next up for Hoima, a trip to Mynda. Can they really win three straight road games to reach the Simba Bowl? We will find out, very, very soon.

The good news: The Dragonflies are back in a World Bowl semifinals. It's been a while. You may remember our claim to fame being that we've won four World Bowls, but if we're honest with ourselves, the last trophy was World Bowl 41, and since then we've made one semifinal (which led to a rare lost final), and it's been Round of 16 and Quarterfinal exits since then. The funny thing is, that even with quote-unquote early exits, we've maintained a spot in the top ten of the rankings - I mean, a quarterfinal elimination is still a top eight finish - but that was also a ranking that has slowly gone down. From second to fifth, to sixth, to eight, ninth, and now tenth. Any worse and we're due to leave the top 10 for the first time since World Bowl 36. We're very happy that that fate has been avoided.

Even better news: The coaching staff under head coach Dhigethen was installed in the 51st edition - very recently - with the explicit instruction to modernise the team for future national team success. The fact that they've turned around a decent, if somewhat depleted, roster to get back to the top four signifies a lot for Ko-orenite gridiron fans. One: we're not washed. Two: defensive play can still be meta. If either one of those things would be different, we'd be in for a long, costly rebuilding of a national strategy; waiting for new talent to come in with a fresh, offensive mindset, with almost no coaching staff in Ko-oren able to implement such an offence-first scheme. The fact that the rebuild has been short, swift, and almost immediately rewarding is fantastic.

The bad news: our next opponent is Banija, the only team we've faced more than twice in World Bowl knockouts while losing every single meeting. We're 1-2 versus the Allamunnic States, and our records versus other often-seen teams are even better (in the 2-1 to 3-0 range). Banija, however, is a straight 0-6 belt-to-bottom affair every single time. And meeting them, with a young-ish squad, that's only found its form during the group stage, feels like we're marching straight into a meat grinder. Yes, we've faced them six times, lost all six, this bad luck's bound to break at some point, but as we all know, the Dragonflies can let a losing streak simmer for a damn long time before doing something about it. It hardly needs repeating, but we were 0-7 in soccer World Cup knockouts once. Apparently that's where we draw the line. I guess that means this game will be Banija's.

Good results in the World Bowl were a boon to public discourse across the archipelago. Stock prices fluctuated - but overall trended down - municipalities, provinces, and the national government have halted some funding. Everyone was waiting for Gelogathingun's story to come to a close, and the nation felt like it pressed pause dramatically until the verdict was out. At least people could bond over a welcome, albeit lopsided, 36-0 win over TJUN-ia at the office coffee machine before booting up their laptops and seeing that another major plan was cancelled. Whether that plan was from Gelogathingun's stash of corrupt or harmful ideas or whether it was necessary maintenance to vital infrastructure was unclear every single time.

Members of the cabinet have also had public falling outs, both sides claiming that the other one was part of Gelogathingun's clique. Even high-ranking ministerial officials, who fall under the president, not the prime minister, have been implicated. Lists on social media of who can be trusted and who's rotten are updated daily, if not hourly. In the meantime, the selectors in charge of the previous prime ministerial race have all been told they won't be on the next committee, meaning that centuries of combined experience in finding the right political agenda for Ko-oren are lost.

In parliament, spirits have never been higher. All 144 seats come together to fight for a democratic Ko-oren - even if some would like to see that democracy extend further into day to day decision making, and others only want to use democracy as an audit for what Ko-orenites want, need, and whether new laws bring the country any closer to that. The result is that attitudes towards parliament haven't been higher in decades, after hitting their ten year low under Gelogathingun, who actively tried to sideline parliament. Several prominent MPs have even been named candidate for minister or selector. Once this is all over, the nation will surely need them for that and other jobs.

The constitutional court had been in session for a few days. A verdict had to be here soon.

Odin Sørbø was sitting in the stands of the Kavuma Field here in Herzegovina City, a ball in his hands with the flood lights on illuminating the empty stadium around him in the Arrosian evening air. It felt very surreal to be here, knowing that tomorrow he was going to be leading the national team out on to that gridiron with a chance to advance to the World Bowl championship game. No one really believed that the Sabres had any chance of making the semifinals of this tournament, especially with the way that the team had performed to open up the tournament, him in particular had played just dreadfully in those first few games. Momentum had seemingly been on their side, at least until that game against Drawkland where he and the rest of the team had been given a stark reminder of exactly where they were supposed to be in the pecking order of this sport. They were good yet they were supposed to be far from greatness, closer to being mediocre than they were to being elite and a real title contender. That was supposed to rare air that was meant for teams like Drawkland, Quebec, Banija, Chromatika, and Ranoria, those were the teams who were allowed to be excellent in the sport.

Here they were though, in the semifinals of the tournament with two games remaining before them regardless of what happened when they took to the field on the morrow, they had earned the right to at least play for a place on the podium when this tournament came to its inevitable conclusion. Banija was as much his home these days as the Empire was, having signed on with the Jinja City Springboks after graduating at Raynor, he had taken to the team and league like a fish to water even if this last season had not played out quite how he would have liked. A losing record in the regular season was rough to take in, even if the team had been second in their division, and had not been enough for the team to make the playoffs this time. It was perhaps that experience that had spurred him on as much during this tournament, having felt and experienced what it was like to hit quicksand and let one loss become multiple. The GFLB was a league that turned coal into diamonds and either you became sharp or you were crushed into dust because you were too brittle to handle the pressure.

Last week had been a test that was quite unlike anything the team had come up against this tournament, Quebec was one of those traditional powers and unlike the games against Banija and Drawkland this was not back in Mar Sara. The fourth ranked Quebecois were a task that seemed the longest of asks for the team but Odin refused to simply be beaten by sheer hype of a team and had all intent to make them have to earn it. The first drive might have not ended up in a scoring drive but they had moved the ball pretty decently and only some good defensive plays forced the punt. Yet it had set the tone of the game as did the defense standing on their head when Quebec had the ball. Toshi Sánchez took the ensuing punt by the Grim Reapers sixty-three yards untouched and into the endzone to open the scoring and showcasing what many thought was Quebec's only real major flaw, poor special teams. Although it meant that he was going to be waiting on the sideline for another opportunity to hit the field, Odin had been very happy to have taken the early lead. He much preferred playing with a lead than having to chase.

Poor game management by the Quebecois would see them score a field goal to take a ten to seven lead against the team with ninety-three seconds left, as the running back had jumped out of bounds instead of falling down in bounds, saving the Sabres a good twenty-five plus seconds on the clock. He had been here a thousand times before and it was more like going into a whole different level of consciousness, where he was not even piloting his body but was an observer as he and the rest of the team executed a perfect two minute drill, Max Strömberg catching an eight yard touchdown with nine seconds left in the half. It had been perfect and it was exactly the sort of shift in momentum shift that the team needed headed into the half, where they regrouped themselves. Odin took the opportunity to speak his thoughts to the team, telling them that this was their opportunity to do the impossible and beat one of the traditional powers in the game and find a way into the semifinals where the team had never been before, they simply had to execute and the victory could be theirs.

The second half felt more like a dream, where the Quebecois only scored on their opening drive in the second half, getting a second field goal to get within one point of the Sabres. Yet the team would drain the clock with their possessions and when he scrambled from the four yard line into the end zone with a little over seven minutes left in the game, Odin knew this was going to be a victory. Another three and out forced by the defense was all that was needed and then he and the offense drained the remaining four and a half minutes, taking three knees at the Quebec thirty to win the game and send them here. Here in this cathedral of the game, here where they were the home of the the league that made diamonds even out of the most rough of prospects. While football might not have a real home, it definitely felt like Banija was the home of gridiron and this tournament was seeing the best that he had to offer in these hallow grounds. Chromatika was the foe on the morrow, a foe who had in the past made the Sabres lives miserable, but this run was unlike anything he or the team had experienced before, there was no reason to think that after beating three top six ranked teams already, why they could not do it against the seventh ranked Chromatiks. It was an even battle on the rankings and it was going to be the team, the leaders who held their nerve that would determine the outcome, and Odin had no mind to be the one to fail now when push came to shove.

Facing some criticism about the way that she had been playing this tournament, Anne-Maurice Vivayavich put away all of her doubters with a 21-of-31, 391 yard, three-touchdown performance as the Iron Legion successfully handled the Elephants of South Newlandia 34-23 to move to the World Bowl Semifinals. Vivayavich, who hadn't had a good game in a while this tournament, was accurate often in the game, fitting the ball into tight windows and reading the defense without much trouble. She found St. Pierre on a thirty-yard seam route, Silverman on a deep corner, and Ulrich Jefferson on a drag route as she showed that she can throw the entire route tree.

Defensively, the Iron Legion did concede two touchdowns and three Field Goals - but not any points since the ten minute mark of the Third Quarter. By then, the score was 27-23, and the one touchdown run of the game from Chromatika - Benjamin Merik's eight yard scamper - put the game out of reach. With the defense continuing to struggle, the ascended play from Vivayavich was sorely needed, especially with the running game struggling at times.

The result sends the Iron Legion into the World Bowl Semifinals to face Valanora in the Semifinals for the second World Bowl in a row. Last time around, the Iron Legion won 33-16 before losing to Cardenao 20-24 in the Championship; that matchup was characterized by the Iron Legion completing twelve of eighteen third downs. Odin Sørbø and the Sabres have been humming along for a while now, and look to break into the World Bowl Championship - while Banijan and Ko-oren renew a storied rivalry on the other side of the bracket.

"It was good to see her play so loose," spoke Inside Linebacker Park Mi-Hyeon regarding her starting Quarterback, "We're still trying to keep our wits together regarding the big plays given up - we'll have to clean that up if we are to advance going forward. Enox and Earl played well, as did Demitrius - and we know that she can keep up this level of play going forward."

The formation that worked the best against the South Newlandians was a three-receiver set with a tight end, putting St. Pierre, the two Silvermans, and Jefferson on the field at the same time. With Jefferson motioning to help confuse the defense, the two Silvermans were free to run whatever routes they wanted while St. Pierre ran the deep route time and time again. This combination worked against the South Newlandians, but the Chromatiks will have to put together something new to take on Valanora.

Three times, Chromatika has reached the World Bowl Finals. To be able to make it to a fourth since World Bowl 45 would continue to cement the Iron Legion as one of the powers of the world in gridiron - though the lack of a title continues to speak much. Valanora hasn't won a title yet, either, so to hand them the opportunity would be a change of the guard as well.

A lot was made of the fact that the Iron Legion couldn't win a World title with Sarai Gwenderyn at the helm; naysayers stated that if the greatest ever couldn't, there wasn't a notable reason why this team would be able to with Anne-Maurice at the helm. Her struggles in the Group Stage did not help matters, but the way that the team has played so far in the postseason has given the team new life when it comes to playing together and rallying to see if they can win the first Championship in the World Bowl for Chromatika.

Who cares what the expectation was beforehand? All that stood in the way of immortal glory was two more opponents - and the Iron Legion looked poised as anyone to be the one laughing at the end of it all.

#4 Mukeruzi Hyenas @ #1 Dukuma Dragons. Game played on Sunday at 3:00 PM.

And now, two division champions meet with a berth in the Simba Bowl on the line! Mukeruzi traveling to the Busoga Islands, to take on the Dukuma Dragons. "I am confirming- this is indeed my last season with the Hyenas- I'm going to retire after this season." Said Mukeruzi's 38 year old Chromatik quarterback, Emilee Johansson. "I am hoping, and praying, for 2 games left. But beyond hopes and prayers- we are preparing like our lives depend on it, because championship opportunities sometimes come once in a lifetime- and I do not want to let this chance go." This might be the greatest opportunity Mukeruzi might have- with division rivals getting better and younger, as the Horace Horton led Busukuma Suns and Jack Hoy led Hoima Zebra project to be stronger than them for a significant amount of time, especially if the Hyenas have their QB retire. Truly might be one and done- but can they get it done?

On the flip side, the Dukuma Dragons are having a dream season. Nobody thought this was possible- and yet, the Busogan side keep winning. They were the only team in the league to reach 13 wins, earning the #1 overall seed. And then, last week, the miracle of miracles- they won their playoff game on a Hail Mary. "Busogan fans close their eyes and blink, trying to see if this is real- and it truly is." Said another Banijan commentator. "The Dragons as a #1 seed for the playoffs? Winning last week on a Hail Mary? This whole season is a dream come true- but they've got to finish and take full advantage of everything they've built. It'll be a year next year where of course they will be division favorites, but you gotta imagine their chances at another #1 seed are slim, right? Yet, we would've laughed if you told us 18 weeks ago that the Dragons were playing, at home, with a chance to go to the Simba Bowl."

Let's go to the commentator for the opening play of the game.

Busogan Radio Commentator wrote:After an excellent kickoff return for the Hyenas, they will start with a 1st & 10 at their own 48 yard line. Not great for the Dragons to give up this kind of field position, but of course, it's early. This Dukuma crowd is certainly making themselves heard- good thing for them that the Hyenas have such an experienced veteran under center. Johansson lines up in the shotgun, with a HB on either side of her, two TEs, one on each side of the LOS- and Kasozi Batte, the WR1, lined up out wide, to her left. She's trying to change the call at the LOS, and she's clearly struggling to be heard. She's back, and she's clapping as the play clock goes down to zero- but just gets the snap off.

Johansson fakes the handoff to Oliver Fal, and whips a screen pass to Batte- BUT ASA RAO JUMPS THE PASS AND IT'S INTERCEPTED! HE'S RUNNING IT BACK- ROLL OUT THE BIG... RED... CARPET FOR A TOUCHDOWN FOR THE DRAGONS ON THE FIRST PLAY FROM SCRIMMAGE! OH MY OH MY, A PICK-6 TO JUMPSTART THE SEMIFINAL!

As one could imagine, that game-opening pick-6 set off an absolute zoo. Exploding out with such a big play, and it seemed as if the entire North Island of the Busoga Islands was shaking. They basically did to Mukeruzi, what the Hyenas did to Lwanga just last week- absolute dominance in the first quarter. They had a quality drive of their own for the majority of the middle of the opening quarter, that ended in a trick play TD pass- where Jacobson threw a TD pass to his right tackle, Malal Jammeh. Add another field goal, and the Dragons, against all odds, were suddenly up 17-0 after only 15 minutes- meaning that they were flying high to Busukuma. To be frank, flights were being booked from Dukuma to Busukuma as soon as that pick 6 happened.

But the Mukeruzi Hyenas were not going to take things lying down. They didn't have the best WR in the league for no reason- and Emilee Johansson, despite struggling mightily for the opening period, rallied her troops back. The Hyenas did have to get aggressive- it was a playoff game. They got desperate- a 4th & 8 at their own 40 yard line, they didn't send out the punt team. They went for it- and they got it. "We were down 3 scores, and the game was slipping away from us- we needed to do something, anything, to turn the tide." Said Arbas Isler, the team's slot WR. Johansson ended the drive by throwing a 24 yard touchdown pass to Arbas Isler, to make it 17-7, and get the Hyenas back in the game.

While the Dragons responded with a field goal, the defenses got a few stops- and then, in the two minute drill, Johansson was putting together another TD drive. More risky behavior- another aggressive go for it decision on 4th down. This time, fourth and goal from the 2. The even more risky decision was throwing the fade route to Kasozi Batte. But the gold medalist isn't just lightning fast- he can jump too, leaping over rookie cover corner Moustapha Mohamed for a touchdown. Suddenly, a game that the Dragons looked like they'd wrap up by halftime, was just a one score game at the break- 20-14, in favor of the Busogans.

Getting the ball to start the second half, the Dragons engineered a strong drive of their own- 10 plays, 76 yards, five full minutes, keeping the clock, and the chains, chugging along. Drive ended in Tombong Jate diving in, from 4 yards out, for a Dragons TD. Their kicker, Wasa Tiyana, continued his struggles from last week, as he missed another PAT- that's the third one he's missed this postseason, shockingly. But still, up 26-14 at your own house? That's exactly what you'd love to see. Although Mukeruzi continued to battle back. Johansson responded with a 57 yard pitch and catch to Kasozi Batte, to almost immediately put the Hyenas in the red zone- before, three plays later, they were scoring with a running play. 26-21 now, in favor of the home team. All momentum in favor of the visitors though, right?

The defenses traded stops until there was 1 minute left in the 3rd quarter. Dragons QB Dexter Jacobson tried to throw a deep post to Samo Sarr- but he overthrew his WR, and it was picked off by star rookie cornerback, Landon Rayne- the 21 year old RU grad, who plays an elite CB role. Ranorian on Ranorian crime. He returned the ball to the 26 yard line, and with the drive starting with great field position, they were in prime position to take the lead. And after a screen pass to Batte saw the WR break a few tackles to get to the 8 yard line, they started the fourth quarter, down 5, with first and goal. Lead imminent? Well... Maybe not. Go back to the fade route- but Dukuma EDGE rusher Ailo Børve actually hit Johansson as she threw. 2nd & goal, the Hyenas backup HB got a yard. 3rd & goal from the 7, Johansson was sacked by Busogan EDGE rusher Bayindir Ecevit for a loss of 6. Mukeruzi did convert the chip shot field goal, to make it 26-24. But man, what an opportunity to take the lead.

After such a brutal interception, Jacobson's confidence, of course, was down. What do you do to get his confidence back up? Simple throws. Two straight first downs on two completions- a 12 yard out route to Okwayi Kyebanja, the NMU grad, followed up by a sipmle TE screen to Bulley Dira, who rumbled 15 yards for a first down. Dukuma moving the ball, now across the 50 in just two plays. Time for a trick play? The answer, was yes. They ran a double WR reverse- Kyebanja getting the ball on a handoff, and then he pitched it back to Samo Sarr. Defense going one way, Sarr going the other- and he flew down the field. He basically went untouched, 47 yards for a rushing touchdown. A bit of breathing room for the Busogans now, up 33-24 with 12 minutes left.

The defenses traded stops, and with 7 minutes left, the Hyenas got the ball back- still down 9. They absolutely needed to score. And stay aggressive. Johansson had to get riskier and riskier with her throws- and she'd come to regret it. Vanorian EDGE rusher Ailo Børve dropped back in coverage, and she threw it straight to his gut- didn't even see him. He returned the ball to the 6 yard line, and Tombong Jate, Dukuma's running back, rumbled into the end zone for 6 a few plays later.

40-24 now, and the game was basically a wrap. Dukuma would score once more, and they would have a landmark, 47-24 win here in this semifinal- leading, essentially, from wire to wire, and earn this appearance in the Simba Bowl. Get ready for a horde of Busogans to take over Busukuma, folks!

#11 Hoima Zebra @ #2 Mynda Gorillas. Game played on Sunday at 6:30 PM.

Hoima Zebra against the Mynda Gorillas! We've got one Simba Bowl spot all wrapped up- and now, the second is up for grabs. "This is the type of game I've waited for, all my life." Said Zebra starting strong safety, Tuutoo Bokate. "A chance to go to the SImba Bowl, for the first time in my career- it's why we're all here. We've gotta get through this hostile environment, yes- but we'll be ready to thrive at Kawesa Stadium."

Meanwhile Mynda's left tackle, one of the many anchors of the league's best OL, Karwana Kakaddé, spoke to reporters ahead of the contest on what exactly this game meant to him. "I grew up on the outskirts of Mynda- was a diehard Gorillas fan." He told reporters in the media. "It's so rare that you get to play for your favorite team as a child- but God has blessed me by putting me in this exact situation. NOt many believe in us, and expectations were through the floor- and yet, look at how we got here. We got an entirely brand new division, and won it, first go- smoking the rest of the West. Beating down those bastards from Askatasuna, especially. They didn't think we could beat Istria- and yet, that's exactly what we did, taking down Kadesh Odika. I love him, we're teammates on the NT- but I'm trying to win a title."

Plenty of offensive firepower in this game- one team, built around time of possesion- long drives, physical play of football. The other team, the visitors, built around their electric set of skill position players- Anne-Maurice Vivayavich, of course, is the conductor of the orchestra, at quarterback. You've got Jack Hoy as the team's out & out superstar, one of the best 1-2 combos at WR with Mille Ueland and Jannik Nadine as the top WR targets, and all in all, a team that is all in. Remember, they were built to literally get to this moment. Think about how they handled the offseason. A-MV taking a pay cut, in order for the team to afford Jack HOy- and they did. He's the second highest paid player in the league- and not non-QB- second highest paid player in the history of Banijan sport. That #1 honor, of course, goes to Kadesh Odika, Banija's NT QB, who inked an extension this offseason shortly before Hoy put pen to paper. Only two players in the history of Banijan sport to be paid more than Diamond Rhine.

So while the journey was up and down (9-5, to 9-8, to being the #11 seed and having to claw), they expected to be here- even if not via this path. It's the consistency that gets them- not the top level talent. Mynda, the opposite, Doesn't seemingly have that except on the O-Line- but these massive holes they open for dudes just get ran through. And for so much of this ballgame, it was the Gorillas opening up, huge hole after huge hole, to just have scoring drives. Both teams like to run the ball- and so, the entire first half, was just long drive after long drive. Forget the big, backbreaking play- 7 yards here, 9 yards there. Always good for the fan, but maybe less so in terms of the highlight reel. Mynda got the opening kick to start the game. Their first three drives of the first half- took 6 minutes, 7 minutes, and another 6 minutes- just eating off huge chunks of time of possession. They scored, of course, on all three of those. Two touchdowns, and a field goal. Both TDs on the ground, by Alejandro Garrina, and the field goal was from 28 yards out.

That meant Hoima, of course, also had three possessions. They had to respond well each time- as you can see, if you do the math, they only had 11 minutes of possession, total, in the first half. A more balanced offense- while Mynda's O-Line was just mauling the Zebra defense to death, a little bit more balance here- and more big plays when the visitors had the football. I mean, who could forget the 47 yard run that Jack Hoy had, on a 3rd & 3 from the 50, that put the Zebra into first & goal? Or the beautiful throw A-MV made, on a post route to Jannik Nadine, when she threw a 37 yard touchdown pass to Jannik Nadine with under 30 seconds left in the second quarter? The Zebra were not going to see as much of the ball as their opponents (they never were going to, frankly), but they took full advantage of their limited opportunities. And then, the 7th and final possesion of the half, was kneeldowns.

What a game so far, 17-17 at half, right?

Second half, the game really got going. Talk about the big play- Hoima got the ball to start the second half, and why not just take it all in two plays? First & 10 at their own 28, a simple halfback toss to Jack Hoy- but he broke a couple of tackles, in route to a 33 yard gain, and a first down. Second play, first & 10 at the 39 yard line- and A-MV is throwing a beautiful lofted ball, to Mille Ueland, who is making a diving catch in the end zone for a touchdown. Hoima had taken the lead for the first time all day, by a score of 24-17. Was the Simba Bowl in their future?

But it was from that point on, where Dukku Banyuse, who is, at best, a very mid QB, decided to lose his mind. As one commentator said. "To win a championship, you need a QB who will play like an elite quarterback in the playoffs. Now, that most likely comes from a truly elite quarterback- or, a quarterback who can at least cosplay as an elite quarterback for a game or two." Banyuse could not be hidden- and so, when asked to stand up and be counted, he answered the bell. THey could not use 6 minute drives for the rest of the game, of course- the Zebra defense would eventually figure out how to stop the run. The Gorillas coach made a huge risk in trusting Banyuse- and he delivered.

How did this work? Of course, it starts with the O-Line- he had plenty of time to throw. Zebra did not record a QB hit, while rushing four, all game long. Not once. His jersey, then, was pretty damn clean. He was upright and had plenty of time to scan the field- which he did, with precision. Nobody really in his face, unless they sent blitzers. They were only getting to the QB when they overloaded the O-Line, but Banyuse was able to navigate the blitz pretty well. Sometimes, you've gotta wonder- how the heck is this guy doing this? In the second half, against the blitz, Banyuse was 10/11, for 144 yards, and two touchdowns. Yet, during the season, his completion percentage against the blitz ranked 17th in the league, out of 24 starting QBs. A pair of TD passes by Banyuse, combined with the Gorillas defense finally getting some stops- and then sandwiching a Wanzala Ssemeere punt return TD in the middle of it, meant that by the time we hit the 12 minute mark in the fourth quarter, it was the 2nd seeded Gorillas, who led, 38-24, at home.

Now it was the Gorillas that could taste the Simba Bowl. But 12 minutes was a lot of time- especially with the guys that Hoima had. A-MV would have to step up- could she bring them back from the brink of destruction? The Chromatik QB said, hell yeah. She engineered a quick drive- 5 plays, 68 passing yards, ended in a 6 yard touchdown pass to her superstar running back, Jack Hoy, on an angle route. Drive just took 3 minutes. And so then, at the 9 minute mark, the Zebra only trailed by 7, by a score of 38-31. But the Hoima defense, who had been struggling all game long, after such a great performance in Duntho, needed to be put on notice. And while they allowed Banyuse to scramble for 17 yards and a first down on the first play, they then straightened their backs to force the three and out. Kang In-Yeung made the diving pass breakup.

Now, down a score, they got the ball back with 6:50 left. Plenty of time, even at their 17 yard line. They did not need to abandon the run- or, more accurately, they could go back to the run. They had Jack freaking Hoy, they weren't going to mess this one up, were they? They had a long, methodical drive down the field. A well-balanced one- some running, some passing. They even had a fourth down conversion. At the Mynda 22 yard line, they had a 4th & 4- and with 3 minutes left, down 7, you of course had to go for it. But they were bold- a HB draw, to Jack Hoy! "Running the ball on 4th & 4 is crazy- unless you've got the best running back in the league." Said a commentator after that. Jack Hoy broke a pair of tackles, and wasn't brought down until the 3 yard line. He needed the 18. He punched it in one play later, and with 2:17 left, the score was tied, 38-38.

So much pressure on Mynda now, having blown the lead. Could Banyuse be the hero on the day? The answer, was no- three straight incompletions. The two minute warning, they were uncorking a punt. It was time for A-MV to write herself into legend status, for the city of Hoima. She engineered a hell of a drive, with the 2 minute drill. Got all the way down to the Mynda 37 yard line, with 4 seconds left. It would come down to the kicker- who is Jarra Kusi. The new national team kicker, as well. A 54 yard field goal, outside, is never easy- but he drilled it straight down the middle! And yet... It did not count. Mynda's head coach had called a timeout immediately before the snap, attempting to ice the kicker.

A strategy that can work- and in this case, did! Take 2, the one that counted, was pushed wide left by Kusi. Overtime. Now, remember, in the playoffs, there are different OT rules. In the regular season, they use college rules. In the postseason, they use modified rules (OOC note: Read this as the new RL NFL postseason playoff rules). So Hoima elected to receive the opening kickoff, after winning the OT coin toss. First play from scrimmage, went well- a 9 yard gain for Hoy, on a HB dive. And for the next play- we'll take you straight to the commentator.

Hoima Radio Commentator wrote:Our boys have got a 2nd & 1, at their own 36 yard line. A great run by Hoy there, as he opens up the whole playbook. Imperative that we score on this drive- no way a dude like Banyuse can lead a game-winning drive in overtime, right? Put all the pressure on them. A-MV is under center, with 11 personnel. She goes to hand it off- and it's a fake! She turns around on the play-action, and is looking at her slot WR, Bassirou Konat, who is streaking over the middle. She hits him with a pass in the hands- wait, it bounces off his hands and it's picked off! OH NO! It's picked off! (He lets off a series of swear words, ensuring he'll face a hefty fine from the Banijan government.) I can't believe it. I. Cannot. Believe it.

A perfect pass, just dropped by Konat, and into the hands of Ole Bakker, who was coming down in the zone. He returned it to the Hoima 32 yard line. And look, there's a flag- ope, they're gonna tack 15 yards onto the end of that interception return, as you can see Jack Hoy taking off his helmet and slamming it on the turf in frustration, before getting off the field. Oh my, oh my, they're gonna have first & 10 at the 17- folks, that might be the season.

Mynda didn't even bother to bring out the O- just brought on the kicker, who drilled the 34 yard field goal, and somehow, in OT- it was the Gorillas, who would come out on the right end of a wild contest, and clinch the second and final berth in the Simba Bowl.

What a ride, what a season!

World Bowl LII Brief- Banija exact vengeance on HUElavia for group stage loss, advance to the World Bowl Semifinals

LWANGA, BUGANDA- For a World Bowl where the Serpent Eagles seemed to be on the brink of disaster, they seem to have turned it around. Against Drawkland was their best game of the tournament- seemingly the only game so far where, against a high quality opponent, they could pair good offense and good defense together. Quality, complimentary football, powered forward by the raucous home crowd in Herzegovina City. But, the show goes on- a chance to get revenge against the same HUElavia team that stormed into Busukuma, and took Banija's lunch. And instead of a high-scoring, shootout, like in Week 2- this game was the opposite. "Both defenses learned a lot about each other in that game." Said Thomas Hall, the Banijan HC. "And the lessons were both learned, and implemented."

Both are extremely true. HUElavia was held to 198 yards of total offense, while the Serpent Eagles were held to just 240. Can't even blame the weather either- the Watering Hole is a dome, so there are always perfectly conditions for some brilliant offensive football. But the defenses came ready to play, and they were repeatedly just beating down their opponents. Both defenses got two turnovers- one via an interception, and one via a forced fumble. The HUElavians blocked a field goal attempt in the fourth quarter. The Banijans just straight up missed one in Q2. But in the game's very late stages, with under a minute left, the 2 minute drill was needed- and Odika answered the call. He struggled all game, and still put the team on his back, engineering a drive to give them a chance to win it on the game's last play.

And that they did, with Kusi hitting the game-winning field goal to clinch a 10-7 win over HUElavia, and advance to the semifinals for the third time in the last four cycles. This time, the opponent is a familiar one- longtime rivals, Ko-oren. Another low-scoring, defensive battle is surely in store there- can the Banijan D, alongside the home crowd, launch the Serpent Eagles to Busukuma for the World Bowl Final? Or is another trip to the third place playoff in store for this team?

Dream Team: Politicians

If there was one place to lay low, it was perhaps Ramotswe. Ramotswe was an exotic part of Libegeist, known of its wildlife and savannas. Tourists would just usually use the riverboats to take a leisure cruise through the river and get a view of the animals nearby. However, some happen to be locals to the area. Aurora Ghaniyah was no stranger to what she knows of her home. But she was a stranger to something else. Something that was an opportunity.

It was why she had invited a lobbyist that she knows about, from her time serving as a diplomat. She was at her lodge-styled house that was within the town of Ramotswe. One with a view of the zebras running in formation, along with other housing that was painted in pastels. The night was approaching, while the town became quiet.

There was a knock at her door. Going over to the door, it was Kemal Blackpaw, her guest for the evening.

"Mr. Blackpaw. It's good to see that you're here." Aurora said, allowing him into her home.
"Miss Ghaniyah. You seem to be in casual spirits." Kemal noted, making sure to remove his shoes, so they didn't end up on the carpet. Kemal was a muscular man with brown hair that he kept with a bandana around his head. He wore a tartan flannel shirt that did little to hide his muscles.

"I did call you over than make a trip into the city. The Swine Party has gotten me to do some of their work, as much as I have some disagreements." Aurora said, though that wasn't the purpose of the conversation that she had in mind. "Disagreements is the most that I have towards the King. His decision to outlaw the zoos have done enough to harm my travels and studies." Kemal mentioned to her, to which she noticed that he was chewing a piece of nicotine gum.

"We can discuss more, but let me get the melktert. I left it out of the oven to cool down." Aurora said, letting Kemal get comfy. He spat out his gum into the trash, before he took a seat at the dining room table. Aurora gave Kemal a plate of a slice, to which she helped herself to a slice as well.

"So, what has the Swine Party been needing you for?" Kemal asked her.
"Diplomacy requires foreign cooperation. After what happened back at Red Rock, the country is... quite frankly, heading down the drain."
"Where are they sending you?"
"The nation of Cartoonia. Libegeist is within the Southern Seas Alliance. They need to look after their own neighbors, despite some bickering like how it is, so no one decides to set fire to the oil fields." Aurora mused.

"It is a tragedy that such a vicious act of terrorism has befallen our divided nation. What we wish is for a recovery, not a relapse." Kemal said, though he noticed what looked like two boxes nearby on a table. "How has things been with your hak gediya? I know how much you like to play it." he asked her.
"I don't want to annoy the neighbors. I just keep it all clean for now, until I'm given a chance to shine."
"I've been getting into the literature that Mockingjay has been able to scavenge from the Exclusion Zone. I take interest in a book called Animal Farm. You're familiar with it?"
"Not much."
"It's one that deals with animals of a farm rebelling against their human masters. It helps remind me of the rampant corruption in our government, along with the failure of needed intelligence being wasted. Practically, I finished that book after I did a climb."

The two ate their slices of melktert, until Aurora went to get the boxes to take to the dining room table. "One thing I wish to ask. You weren't followed on your way here, right?" Aurora asked him, glancing at the windows.
"What do you mean?"
"As much as I have disagreements with the Swine Party, I do want to contribute towards the government in a meaningful way." Aurora said vaguely.

"There are already getting the parties set up, but it will be like a horse derby." Kemal pointed out to her. "What are you up to, though?"
"What would you say, if I told you that I was recruited by a certain individual to fix our dysfunctional government, so that he can come into power. I have my doubts, but if it means getting Taccone out of the political picture, then so be it." Aurora casually said.
"Who is this person that you are with?"
"He doesn't go by a name and his political organization is more of a masquerade. You might have heard of him from the news. I'm sure you heard of The Leader?"

Kemal paused, hiding his surprise that Aurora was getting involved with a wanted ex-dictator. "How did you get involved with the Leader?" Kemal said, though as much as he could talk to someone else, he wanted to know more. He had a feeling that there was a reason on why Aurora agreed to go into cahoots with him.
"A certain birdie from the government happened to know my name. She also knows of the gossip that transpired with me and Taccone. Normally, I would not get acquainted with someone with a supposedly lower reputation, but the Leader is someone who... has an interesting worldview. Anarchy isn't something that is organized, but here we are."

"So why are you telling me all of this?" Kemal said, until Aurora opened up one of the boxes to reveal a mask that was themed after a plastic doll. The doll face gave a fake smile back at Kemal.
"The Leader has given me some opportunities in making sure that my home here at Ramotswe. I did remember you and how the laws have shut down the zoos that you invested in. You're someone who believes that the populace is one that has lost its sense of adventure. What we are doing is considered wrong, but we are not the ones responsible for the attack at Red Rock. We were shocked as much as everyone else." Aurora said to him, allowing the lobbyist to open the box.

He was shocked to see what was in the box for him.

Kemal would admit to himself that he didn't even know why he said yes in the first place.

"What do I do now?" Kemal asked her.

"You said you knew Morse code?"

Somewhere on a riverboat that was currently stopped in the middle of the great river of Volop, one can see a series of lights that appeared in a sequence from a disused ranger's station in the middle of the savanna at night. It was a message sent by Cardinal to let him know that him and Doll were available.

At a balcony of a cabin, the Leader was in his trenchcoat disguise, seeing the lights. He knew what the message meant, to which he gave a smile.

#2 Mynda Gorillas v. #1 Dukuma Dragons. Game played on Sunday at 6:45 PM at the Stadium of the Restoration in Busukuma, National Capitol REgion

And now, time for the biggest game of the season! Interestingly enough, it's the type of year where chalk dominates! The top 3 seeds made it to the semifinals, and the top 2 regular season teams made it to the Simba Bowl- Mynda and Dukuma. Both teams that haven't been here in a while, that meant that we were set for quite the festivities to take over the Banijan capitol, and the fans of both teams did not disappoint. On the Dukuma side, it seemed as if they brought a full horde of their countrymen- Airlines estimated that around 80,000 Busogans flew in from the Islands for the Simba Bowl. Of course, as everyone knows, they've only got a 45,000 ticket allocation- so, in true Banijan fan, huge amounts of fans, without tickets. showing up just to take in the atmosphere. The Dragons tailgates were fantastic- headlined by former Dukuma Mayor, as well as former Busogan President, Delbin Kasekende Sr., showing up, and partying with fans, despite him having to roll to the Multiversal Chess Championships literally tomorrow. Can't beat the Shawarma on offer as well!

Kebabs everywhere on the red side of the equation- but no meat!

Meanwhile, on the flip side of the equation, it was the Mynda Gorillas who had made the Simba Bowl. It is, seemingly, a landmark era for Aksum sports- Aksum State University winning NSCAA 16, and then a few years later, Mynda Gorillas rolling to the Simba Bow? And not only doing that- beating all the teams with the globally known superstars from much larger cities? Beating Kadesh Odika's Istria Black Mambas, and then Jack Hoy's Hoima Zebra, in back to back weeks, is no joke- and they knew that. Now, despite Mynda being a top 10 city in Banija population wise, it is, by far, Banija's least cosmopolitan big city- nobody immigrates to Mynda, a the heart of a very religious, and otherwise extremely rural region. Not quite Buganda, of course, but still- pretty rural, lots of farmers. And so, according to form, they had that kind of tailgate set up. Their fans barbequing with lots of pork, and beef as well- all homegrown, big exports of Aksum. As we all know, these two kinds of tailgates are NOT mixing. LIterally bringing tractors to the tailgates- how the hell their fans got those to Busukuma, clear on the other side of the country, well- we have no idea.

It's always a party. And then, of course, this being Banija's biggest domestic sporting event of the year- there are other big things that go along with the game. With this being in Busukuma every season, both the high school, and college, national championship marching bands get to play here every single year. This year, the honors went to Cass Tech High School- a local high school- and the University of Loyola-Jinja marching band, who beat out the marching band on main campus for this honor. The high school band plays in the street, while the college band plays televised, in the stadium, an hour before the game. And then, of course, the music. The national anthem- everyone bets on the anthem! And, naturally, the celebrity coin toss. This year, the coin toss was done by former Banijan NT quarterback, Isaka Jawara.

And now- time for the game on the field! When you are in a game like this, the nerves can absolutely take you over- and for both teams, especially their quarterbacks, they took some time to settle in. Dexter Jacobson, on the game's second rive, missed a wide open Samo Sarr, streaking down the field- just by overthrowing him, by quite a bit. The Dragons QB was just a bit too amped up for a game like this. This also happened to Mynda's quarterback- as Banyuse kept missing high on throws in the first quarter. A lot of sloppy play in the opening period, especially on offense- so the fact that it was scoreless after 1, was not a shock to anybody. In the second quarter, however, both teams started to find their rhythm on offense. Mynda, going to their tried & true running game, behind their stud OL, just letting their stable of running backs, led by Alejando Garrina, really get after it on the ground.

It was a tactic that worked- a pair of strong drives led to a pair of second quarter field goals, and so at halftime, the Gorillas led a tight, low-scoring affair, by a score of 6-0. It was a game that had Banijan NT head coach Thomas Hall smiling- looking a lot more like the Winter Bowl, than your traditional high-scoring Simba Bowl. The Dragons, after getting shut out in the first half, knew that they needed to make some offensive adjustments. They've got talented WRs, with Samo Sarr as the WR1, and Okwayi Keybanja being a pretty solid X receiver as the WR2. But they had to do a better job of getting the ball into their hands. So how did they come out of halftime, their first three plays? That's right- Samo Sarr in the wildcat! "We do a lot to get him the ball in a variety of different positions, and with this being the Simba Bowl, we'd figure we'd try everything we've practiced all season."

Just looking for a spark- and they found one. Sarr running up the middle for 8 yards on the first play, then handing it off on a read-option to Jate, for a 12 yard gain and a first down. And then, maybe the best play- Sarr did a backwards lateral to Dexter Jacobson, who threw a 33 yard pass, on a rope, to the tight end Bulley Dira. Not something Mynda was quite ready to stop. But as they went to a more normal formation as they reached the red zone, the drive stalled. Three points for the Dragons. That was the only scoring of the third quarter, as the Gorillas took a 6-3 lead into the game's final quarter. A defensively dominant game, one that neutral might find boring- but your average Ko-orenite or Ranorian would find enthralling. Who could outmanuever the other?

And despite both offenses being stuck in the mud, neither team had any turnovers in the first three quarters. Just a punt-a-thon- what is this, Iowa from the RLStates Bax Marry computer game? But with no turnovers in the first three quarters, somebody was bound to get one- and it was Ailo Børve who would make his impact felt. Yet another strip sack by him, this one recovered by Nyatui Lugo, the Dragons nose tackle, right at exactly the 50 yard line. The Dragons had the ball in good field position, and with some momentum. They did pick up a couple of first downs, but nothing after that- bend don't break from Mynda. The field goal was up and good, and it was 6-6, early in the fourth quarter. Somebody, anybody, needed to separate themselves somehow. Who would be the hero?

The hero, for the Gorillas, would be that thing that's carried them all season- their monstrosity of an offensive line. At exactly the five minute mark, the Gorillas had a 2nd & 3 at their own 33 yard line. Garrina got the ball on a simple handoff- and there was a massive hole. Karwana Kakaddé and Shomari opened up a huge hole for him, while Arley Barrier pulled from the other side, shot through the gap, and blasted through the first defender he saw- and that was Dragons cornerback Asa Rao. Garrina was untouched, and suddenly, flying down the field. All sorts of space. The safeties gave chase, but the Cardenao running back was too fast, rolling into the end zone for the game's first touchdown. 13-6, in favor of the Gorillas. Half the stadium losing their minds- and on the other side, an entire country (the Busoga Islands) distraught.

The Gorillas defense would have to put this away. And they did exactly that. Got a three & out, getting their O the ball back with 4 minutes left, a chance to ice the game. While they could not do that, the Gorillas defense had to step up, once again, under the 2 minute mark. And they did exactly that- with Ole Bakker getting an INT, with 1 minute left, at the opposing 40 yard line, and then going down. Game, set, match- champions of Banija!

What a season. Overlooked, overmatched. And what a ride- they beat the league's two biggest stars (Kadesh Odika and Jack Hoy) just to get to this moment, and then beat the league's #1 team (Dukuma Dragons) in the Simba Bowl. A dream come true for all Mynda fans- the parades will be incredible.

Dukuma Dragons 6–13 Mynda Gorillas

Ikaras Benthanra sat down, the weight of a nation on his shoulders. The Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court had a few doubts about the role of his court, but those were long gone. He presided over cases concerning tiny differences between municipal and national policy. Yes, those matters affected the lives of hundreds if not thousands of Ko-orenites at a time, but was a Constitutional Court really necessary to settle disputes? With this case, however, the Court paid for itself in a single week. The ten other justices, five to each side of his position in the middle of the podium, had already taken their place. Invisibly nervous, but all extending their support in some way as he walked towards them. A handshake by the Alahingan justice, Patachall, a few words of encouragement from the Maur justice, Judhnahegun, a pat on the back from Pathonordhen. All eleven justices were rarely in the same room, normally cases didn't require this much oversight, but together they had done a tremendous amount of work in a short amount of time. Three judges at a time could attend a conversation with senior cabinet ministers, and then there were eight left to put together other bodies of evidence. The chairman of it all, the project lead, the one doublechecking the legitimacy of the evidence and determining its place in the final judgement - that's Benthanra. Not an enviable task, but he had the knowledge that any of the other eleven colleagues would have done the job largely in the same way.

The visitors and press were already setting up as well. The usual courtroom wasn't deemed large enough, so they moved to Parliament in Amahne rather than the capitals, too. The ministers charged with trespassing so many articles of the constitution were literally in enemy territory, after their many attempts to sideline parliament. Minutes pass, the rest of the visitors pour into the room. Nearly all of political Ko-oren were in one room, from parliament party leaders to judges from the supreme court, to the commissioners and auditors, to governors and some mayors. Ministers not implicated in Gelogathingun's scheme made the decision not to go to Amahne, as did the Ambassadors of Meritocracy. The latter, depending on the verdict, would have some further decision making to do, if the verdict didn't make it immediately clear whether the prime minister should be sacked.

The process to get here was immense: the court started by hearing the complaints from MPs - and plenty of others soon after - and tied specific articles in the constitution to those complaints. Parliament had done them a favour by already starting out that way. The result was dozens and dozens of suspected transgressions per chapter, some minor, some major. Chapter 3 had a few huge implications - where the acts of government would impede on civilian freedoms - but the bulk was in chapters 5 through 10, which dealt with the specific duties and rights for each branch of government. These chapters had recently been updated, as the constitution gets regular updates by design. Chapter 11 would form the opening of Benthanra's verdict, invoking that the Constitutional Court had in fact legal basis to rule on these findings. Chapter 13-16 had a few grievances by governors and mayors, where the cabinet ignored local planning and devolution. The other chapters - economy, international relations - had relatively few infractions, though the international section had some major consequences, given the cabinet's use of military personnel and resources. Other Anaian nations had made it very certain that after the Constitutional Court was done, they'd also have a few questions over at Koroa City for regional hearings.

What followed was the regular phrases - "Having considered the evidence", "Invoking the Constitutional Court based on chapter 11", "This has been a complex case", and "The Court acknowledges the time and effort by all involved to bring these matters to light", before Benthanra launched into a full 50 minutes of articles, infractions, and verdicts.

There was the odd 'not guilty' or 'not proven'. Far more numerous was the 'therefore this court finds the cabinet ministers guilty of' and a handful of the latter was met with applause and/or gasps from the audience.

Over in Maethoru, the Ambassadors had hoped that the court would say a little more than just 'guilty' - but the ex-prime ministers and ex-presidents knew what they had to know to come to their conclusion. They had already written two speeches, one titled 'Not guilty enough' and one titled 'Removing Gelogathingun I'. They archived the former, and signed a copy of the latter. Tomorrow's press conference was set and they knew what had to be done.

Greatness is not given, it is forged through the hours, days, weeks, months, and ever years that are poured into forging yourself into the person that you think you should be. It is the waking up at five thirty in the morning every day to go on the hour long jog to ensure that you are able to stay fit even if you would have rather gotten the extra ninety minutes of sleep before your day began. It is staying after the scheduled practice for the session is done to fine tune the parts of your game where you know you are far from your best that, a team is only as good as its weakest player and its weakest player is only as good as their weakest attribute. Relentless pursuit of chasing what it is to be great, what it is to stand as peers to giants and know that all the effort that had been put in to achieve this fleeting moment was worth it. Greatness is the cumulative result of those hundreds and thousands of hours into working and not as a reflection of those results but of the person that you took the time to forge of yourself.

Odin Sørbø would not consider himself a great player, though even he had acknowledged that the feats that he had produced through his time at Raynor, his accomplishments with his domestic team, and now the varying lows and highs that he had experienced as the starter for the national team were in fact quite impressive. He cherished the feeling that he had had as winning the NSCF title with the Rockets, having had come so close as a freshman to actually go that one step further in his junior year had been a feeling quite like no other, even if then the next season the team fell short at the penultimate hurdle. For a lot of his life he had felt the weight of expectations, you do not have the name Odin and not feel some measure of expectation to do amazing feats and have impressive accomplishments throughout your life. It was a name of power, a name associated with the idea of being at the height of power, a name that all those who were burdened with it felt the burden of glorious purpose that their parents had transcribed onto them.

In less than twenty-four hours he was tasked with leading the Sabres into the Stadium of the Restoration as the starting quarterback and one of the offensive captains in the first ever appearance of the national team at the World Bowl title game. Was this the moment that his parents had envisioned when they had decided to name him Odin and all of the everything that came with bearing that mark of a name? It was as large of an occasion as he would have liked to ever participate in, he had no mind for business or politics whenever this silly kids game was beyond his physical capabilities, he was no academic or intellectual to pursue the curiosities and mysteries of the world, he was merely a person who had a natural gift in athletics and had trained to be even better than what those innate gifts had given him. In this sport, there was no higher stage than the one being set in Busukuma on the morrow, no greater prize to attempt to work towards than the one that he and the rest of the team would be playing for the honor for in this last game of the tournament that had started with a humbling in HUElavia before having seen success after success here in their closest neighbors in Banija.

Chromatika had stood as giants in their way between where the Sabres had been and where they were attempting to go, a defense that was second to none in the game that stood to challenge each and every drive that the offense he lead would have. A quarterback in Anne-Maurice Vivayavich whom many here in Banija believed was far his superior with the way she performed in the GLFB, whom likely saw the Sabres defense and relished the opportunity. Two years before the same team shredded that defense to the tune of thirty-three to sixteen, running riot against a defense that had been largely unchanged in the time between meetings. Each player of the team those was a link in the chain, each piece of the chain part of a greater whole, they all had struggled and battled through adversity to attempt to better themselves and though that chain proved to be brittle and easily cut last time the two met, it held like chainmail on that evening in Herzegovina City. Odin watched as a much maligned defense rose to the occasion and held one of the best quarterbacks in the game to only a hundred twelve yards and Chromatika to only three points.

The Iron Legion was a vaunted defense but when the Sabres own defense constantly giving Odin and the offense opportunities to showcase their skills, they did not have to be perfect they simply had to be good. Good enough was perhaps the words that analysts were using afterwards, Odin knew it was far from his best game statistically but in the pressure of the moment getting two hundred ten yards and two touchdown tosses against the best defense in the game was a heck of a performance. Alexander Østby would provide a nice counter balance to the offense, going for eighty-four yards, while Fredrik Mundal made field goals of forty-four and forty-one yards after missing his first attempt of fifty-one when he hooked it left. Twenty to three was the final score, the Sabres had performed the most unlikely of reversals on one of the best teams in the game by suffocating their offense and managing the game away to keep the Iron Legion from ever gaining momentum, riding their own all the way to the victory that was seeing them take part in their first ever World Bowl Final.

Odin knew the odds, the chances of the Sabres completely this storybook turnaround from a desperate and dogged performance in the group stage to becoming championship winners were slim, especially playing against a team from Banija on their home turf in the Final. Odds were made though for those who were far more math inclined that Odin had any interest in beyond knowing the stats that he and the rest of his team put up and the wins and loss column. Math did not know about the the feeling of pressure, about the work that had been put in in all the moments that had lead to this opportunity, to the innate desire to to something that could be considered truly great. Odin was not going to be some war hero to save the nation or a leader who guided the Empire through a time of prosperity, he was merely a leader of men and women who played gridiron. It was a sport that on the grand scale of the universe meant absolutely very little, a mere grain of sand on the beach of existence. Yet in the hour that was on the clock and the echoes of eternity for those who would triumph, it meant absolutely everything.

Banija back in the World Bowl Final as the defense shines again in 23-0 shutout victory over Ko-oren

ISTRIA, MORAVICA- When the QB is playing in the friendly, familiar confines of Istria Olympic Stadium- home of his club team, the Istria Black Mambas- things can tend to go well for him. And the victory that this day brought, with his TD pass against that ferocious Ko-orenite defense helping, one could say that this was a good day for him. And for this offensive minded team- when it's a good day for their superstar QB, it's a good day for the team. But you don't get this far in a tournament like this, by only being able to win one way. You aren't going to get off to the races against everybody, and sometimes, it's up to the defense to make the big plays. Defense wins championships was not a phrase that came out of nowhere, for no reason. You got an elite defense, you can go far. And with all this dizzying amount of talent on O, it can be easy to forget- but the Banijans got a defensive mastermind at head coach.

The Banijan defense, really, showcases his talents mostly in flashes. They are capable- but they are not so good that, week in week out, you are going to be looking like a Ko-oren defense. But they are usually good, for at least one elite performance in a big game per cycle. And that performance, this time around, was against HUElavia. How good was HUElavia? 9-1 in the group stages, including dropping 41 against our Serpent Eagles at the Stadium of the Restoration. The same HUElavia team who averaged 37.4 points per game in the group stages, and then dropping 33 on Tumbra in their first knockout stage match. That is good, basically, for the #2 scoring offense for the entire tournament- with Quebec being the only team that they lag behind in that department.

So it was, truly, an impressive performance- not one that would have been expected considering how the defense performed in the group stages. But then, up next, was Ko-oren. Ko-oren are the gold standard of defenses- not only in this sport, but all sports. While their offense isn't exactly blitizing guys all game long, they put up 36 points in their first knockout game, and then scored 20 points- a solid, if not great, point total in their defeat of Bobby Dials and the defending World Bowl champs. You know it's going to be a low-scoring game- and so it's your defense that needs to step up, if you are going to have a chance. And boy, did Thomas Hall answer the call.

"We knew what it would come down to- dominating the line of scrimmage, severely limiting Pier Masman's options- and putting him on his back all game long." That's what Thomas Hall told reporters. And the defensive maestro showed the world that he had his fastball, once again- with the defense pitching a shutout in the World Bowl semifinal. Now, the strategy was getting pressure on the QB- one tried and true. But it worked exceptionally well, as Hall outmaneuvered both the opposing coaching staff, and the opposing offensive line, to continuously just bring the Ko-orenite offense to a halt. Look at a selection of stats. Total yards of offense- 177. Total turnovers- 3. Total rushing yards- just 48. Number of times sacked- 7. Plays attempted in the red zone- 0. There was no point, at any point in time, where Ko-oren could move the ball. The two first half turnovers led directly to 10 first half points, as we scored a field goal and a touchdown off of those. And then when Odika hit Ko-oren with the dagger in the third quarter, a beautiful bomb to Kasozi Batte, well, you could smell it.

"We're going to Busukuma!!" Was the phrase. Busukuma or bust mentality, and that's a fair one- #2 team in the rankings, tournament at home. And they've reached it. And who's next? Valanora. The Eternal Empire are in their first appearance here in Busukuma, although Banijan NSCF fans are all too familiar about what goes on when Banijan teams and Vanorian teams meet, with a championship on the line, in this sport, in this country. "They've got stellar amounts of talent, and you see them balling out, every week, here in the GFLB. All roads lead here though- and we relish the opportunity to win this game."

A regional rivalry. A chance to avenge a loss. And most importantly, a chance at a third World Bowl title- which would be the first for every single player on this roster, as none of them were playing when we won World Bowl 46. As happened in World Bowl L, the Stadium of the Restoration welcomed an international artist midway through the biggest game in gridiron. This time - and rather aptly considering the GFLB's choice of Pavolan connection for this cycle - the artist in question was a Kytlerian who made her name across the Blood Sea.

Literally so, in fact. As a kid, she was Sophie Elphick from a rural market town in the Isolation-era Kytlerian north, an insular part of an insular nation, one where the migrant population amounted to a few stray peace-seeking Quebecois business types and a growing influx of Graintfjallers. Neither of those were exactly threatening the conservatism in the quiet chalkland hills of the Northern Downs - quite the opposite, in the case of the growing influence of Graintfjaller Catholicism - and adventurous talented types tended to want to get out.

Elphick did. Right out of the country and across the Blood Sea. Uploading online performances - of her own songs and those of others - was her ticket out as a teen, via two domestic chart-topping singles under the nom de plume Phillie Phanatique that eventually earned her a deal with Quebecois label Bellator Records. As a young queer woman bursting out of the shell forged by growing up in the Graintfjaller Catholic Church, the bright lights of Montevicio called to her loudly, and while she returned to her home area - and also had an apartment in the Kytlerian capital Zube - it was the Arrosian principality that called her name.

Four albums in seven years built a reputation - and a ferocious fandom - that laid the foundation for a two-year international stadium tour that memorably finished in Zube just as the Kytlerian-hosted World Baseball Classic concluded with a decisive Game 7 between the host Kytlerians and the eventual champions from... Quebec and Shingoryeo. She's more recently been working on a new album - rumoured to be called The Writers' Room, if the speculation from that frenzied fandom is to be believed - and had surprise-dropped a "teaser" in the form of quasi-lead single Two Weeks Later a few weeks ago which became her record-equalling 13th Kytlerian #1 single. (It's not yet clear if the song will be on the album at all or was a non-album single, and it's entirely possible that there will be special edition versions with it tacked on even if the latter is the case.)

But it wasn't Two Weeks Later she started with in Busukuma. Instead, it was liberation anthem Green Furry Club, title track of her previous album and one that got sizable chunks of the audience singing along even though almost none of them were here for her and most probably saw this extended halftime as a distraction. But, mid-song, she flicked over to I'm Not The Problem, lead single from prior album Middays - another defiant anthem in its own way as it breaks out of its own trap-influenced low-key backing, much as the singer herself broke out of her green fursuit at this point to reveal the iridescent leotard she was wearing underneath. The aggressively cishet men in the crowd - and let's be honest, that's most of them - were now a little more invested in this, much to her very own disdain probably, and never mind that she not only had a cis male partner herself at this point but a literal gridiron star himself in former Kytlerian international running back Travis Taylor. Allegedly he inspired at least one song on the upcoming album, but that wasn't the song we heard next; instead, it was Two Weeks Later, and then not that much of it - because her guest artist on that, Kytlerian rapper Ed Malone, was unable to make the trip across the Blood Sea - and instead we cut straight to a finale with a very different Kytlerian guest spot, BIU student Sóley, who broke out with her performance on College ShowCase a few months ago and now joined arguably the biggest pop star in Rushmore on one of the biggest sporting stages in the multiverse to sing what turned out to be another new single, Bitternea!!!, featuring Sóley's piercing soprano dovetailing with the warm low notes the lead attraction of this night has indulged in with utter glee since her range expanded that way under the training of a vocal coach in Montevicio.

Just one of several things that Phillie Phanatique has delighted in changing from when she was just Sophie Elphick from the Northern Downs.

A few hours later, Bitternea!!! would be officially released, the second "non-album" single - though everyone knew it was a product of the new album sessions, the two sharing gleeful social media content at the time to that effect - and by the end of the week it would become Phillie Phanatique's 14th Kytlerian #1, breaking the long-standing record of 13 shared between Isolation-era orchestral pop stars Joshua Jenkins and Maria Bird.

But before then, there was a game of gridiron to finish.

Odin Sørbø had thought the odds of a storybook ending were quite slim, the dogged performances in the group stage had shown the faults of the team and yet they had rose to the occasion in the knockout stages of the competition. Each stage had asked more and more questions of the teams abilities as well as their resolve, if they could hold their nerve when the pressure was mounting and it seemed all the world was set to be against them. Each and every test had been passed, maybe not with flying colors per se but it had been passed all the same and the team arrived in Busukuma to try and replicate a bit of NSCF lore here in the World Bowl, to upset the favored and at home Banija team in a sport that was not even the third most popular in the Empire. Football has ever been the love of Valanora, her second love being that of ice hockey where the national team holds even more records than they do in football, and then basketball has been the third love for quite a long while. Yet the success of the NSCF teams and now the Sabres have gridiron moving ever so steadily up the list and a title here could put it on par with the dance on the hardwood.

Banija was a bigger, stronger, faster, and just overall better team than the Sabres, no one was going to try and dispute that fact. It would be trying to say that the sun was blue instead of yellow, it would be like saying water is dry and not wet, there are just simple, observable truths that no one can deny. Yet in front of their roaring fans that would have seemed to give Banija an even greater edge, on top of already looking to get revenge for a loss to the Sabres earlier in the competition, all of that talent and advantaged would come to nothing. A much maligned defense stood up when it was called upon and denied the hosts any momentum when it seemed like things were starting to turn in their favor, Kadesh Odika threw two interceptions against a secondary that was ballhawking as well as anyone on the day. Ole Bakker had the first interception early in the second quarter on a third and six from the Vanorian forty-three to end a potential scoring drive and then Matteo Sjögren would grab the other in the fourth quarter with three minutes and twenty-two seconds remaining as Banija was driving to bring it to a one score game, yet the safety jumped the slant route and immediately fell to the turf as soon as they felt the ball was secured.

The defense was allowed to play with such freedom because Odin and the rest of the offense had a one in one thousand performance, with the star quarterback putting up three hundred and twenty-one passing yards with three touchdown passes. Alexander Østby helped with another seventy-six rushing yards and a touchdown sprint himself, scampering from the eight yard line with seven and a half minutes left in the fourth to put the Sabres up thirty-one to seventeen, which would end up being the final score. Fredrik Mundal hit a forty-eight yard field goal as the first half expired that had put up the Sabres by ten, seventeen to seven, at the half and the team never looked back. Odin was smart in the pocket and had been relying on three step drops and not even using five step drop plays as he was not going to ask his lineman to try and hold the Banijan pursuit longer than they had to. It was five yards here, eight yards there, but they add up all the same and when you punch it in, no one really asks how you did it, just if you finished your drive with a scoring play, which the team did on five of its eight possessions.

It is a new day for gridiron in the Empire, a new day for this team who came into this tournament merely hoping to get to the quarterfinals and instead have pulled off one of the greatest miracle title runs of Vanorian history. Almost every other championship in every other sport that a national team has accomplished for the Empire, the national team has been there among the favorites at the start of the tournament even if they were not the main favorite, they were in the conversation. This Sabres team has risen through adversity over the years, to have never beaten a team ranked higher than them, to never having won a knockout game, and now to having won the title in one of the most unlikely of ways. It will be a story told in the same vein as the other great triumphs in Vanorian sporting history and might yet well be the sort of catalyst that sees the other national teams and other teams representing the Empire to step up their game and ask the question of why not us? For this moment in time though, the Sabres get to savor the comforts and enjoyments that come with winning the title, in a few years time they will have to deal with the pressure of defending that crown.
