GFLB Rosters during World Bowl LII

GFLB Basic Information

A short preview- who's good and who's not in the upcoming GFLB Season

And now, time to look at our mini predictions within each division! Who do we think will win their divisions, who will make the playoffs, and most importantly- who's going to win the Simba Bowl?

Hangaza Division

Sometimes, it's about the quarterback. And as the newly formed Hangaza division takes flight, there is an obvious QB advantage here- three of the four QBs in this division are on rosters at World Bowl II. But, it is the Duntho Oilers who have probably the deepest roster in this division. While the Bush Elephants have historically been known for being defensively dominant, it is the Oilers who have now risen to have potentially teh league's best defense. You've got both Everson Wright III and Maurie Troy, the former Celestia Conference defensive player of the year, as the anchors int he linebacker core. The defense is captained by Aubin Rouzet- the 32 year old MDU/FSU grad, who is the captain of this defense. Combine that with Sigrid Bøe at free safety, and they've got NTers at every level on defense. It's an interesting stylistic fit with Viktor Rowles, the COld Hill grad who's an absolute gunslinger- loves to whip around the rock. They've got a NT level running back in Alain Sidibé, and so they are desperately in the market for a true WR1 for Rowles. If they can make it work stylistically, and get Rowles a real WR1 (not a 35 year old Bamara Taje), then there is truly a high ceiling out there for the Oilers.

Elsewhere, we've got the Springboks in second. They've certainly got the best QB-WR duo in the division, by a long shot- with Odin Sørbø throwing to Vince Cartier being an insanely dangerous combination. But who else is there? A Loyola-Busukuma grad as the WR3? The roster simply isn't that deep- they probably haven't gotten him enough help. As for the Aissa Crocodiles, the roster is largely OK- Yeyeh Bardi is the QB3 on the Banijan NT roster, but that might say more about the willingness of Banijan QBs to play QB3. Some interesting rookies with Kuto Kuri and Brianna Heavenworth, but this team is at a crossroads- 7-10 seems almost like a guarantee. And lastly, the Bush Elephants. A team built around a ferocious defense, those guys have mostly retired, and they never did much on O to begin with. Not tanking, per say- but they wouldn't mind drafting high.

Moravica Division

Istria Black Mambas. (D)

Kosactus Red Vultures.

We start, of course, with the Black Mambas. They've got so much of Banija's top tier talent- including Kadesh Odika, the QB1 for the NT. When you factor in Joshua Okombo, as well as Godwin Tamuka as the WR1, and Marcel Schlachter's return to Istria to be the WR2- you've got the chance at an all-time offense. And you haven't even mentioned Russell Farmer- the 35 year old stud Ranorian TE. "Look, Odika has a wealth of riches in front of him- elite talent across the board on offense, even if some of it his aging. He's the odds-on favorite for league MVP." Said one sports commentator. "But the roster- can it win a title? That's another story." The Black Mambas have always been defensively deficient, and this year looks to be no different. They drafted Moctar Bane, out of NMU, but it just lacks high end talent.

We are predicting an all-Istria affair, as Rukunbi, as everyone knows, are the second team in Banija's largest city. They've got a solid core built out there- Kario Memphis as the WR1, with Felix Ström under center. They worked hard to get younger, and Idirissa Secka, the 22 year old rookie CB out of Kabonero III University, looks like he can be the real deal. Meanwhile, in Herzegovina City, the Cobras, are a little bit more balanced. Herzegovina City and Istria are, as always, hated rivals- and this year will be no different. A rivalry amped up, of course, by the fact that Herzegovina City's QB, Baka Webo, is the longtime backup for Odika at the NT level. Despite Webo getting up there in years, and even Kisero getting 30, they got younger in a couple of places- drafting Saralynn Pomme, out of ZIoT, in the first round, was an absolute steal. One has to believe, however, that the lack of defensive depth, especially up front, might doom them- although Philip Foss being drafted helps alleviate that concern.

Last, of course, is Kosactus. If you've got Wade Hurley as your QB1... Then you're gonna have some issues. Enough said.

West Division

Mynda Gorillas. (D)
Sisonke Leopards.
Askatasuna Wildcats.
Busembe Timberwolves.

A newly aligned Western Division! A lot of possibilities here- and yet, we think this is going to be a division without any wild cards. That's right- it's the Mynda Gorillas who we pick to win this division. And why? Well, simple- they dominate in the trenches. They've got four of their starters playing here at World Bowl LII- three on the Banijan O-Line(two as starters), and then a fourth on the Chromatika O-Line, Arley Barrier. Everyone, basically, besides their right tackle. Theyv'e got a team built to dominate in the trenches- although whether or not they can take advantage of that, is another question. Dukku Banyuse, their QB, is almost certainly in the bottom tier of GFLB QBs, and Alejandro Garrina, their starting HB, is good- but not someone who many would describe as 'elite'. Still- you can have less high level skill position talent if you can own the trenches, like they intend to. On defense, they are fairly old with two of their four members of the secondary being 35, and Urk McCauley, their DT, being 36- but if they can stay healthy (big if at their age), they can roll with this division.

Who's next? The Sisonke Leopards. Talk about getting old- this team is almost ancient. Vallient Wagner-Young is 40 years old, and still the starting QB for the Leopards. He's got rings with the NT and the Leopards, so he can probably play as long as he wants. Thing is- everyone else is old too. Duhaga, their starting RB, is 32. Essa Kayode, their WR1, is 36 years old. Storm Chester, from U of A, was their best bet to try and get younger at the WR position- but we'll see if he can be effective here. They've got to start thinking about the post Wagner-Young era, and fast. After that, you've got the Wildcats- who have entrusted the reigns to Rain Sams. "Just one year of NSCF experience, and already a GFLB starting QB?" Said one commentator. "A recipe for failure." Don't expect much from Sams in his first year- a growth year. It might be a rough one, but they want to be in position to draft high next year, and then really make the playoff push then. For now- all about QB development.

And then, lastly, are the Timberwolves. They've got a top 3 CB in the league, in Julius Adhon- and that's pretty much it. Adhon is saber-rattling about wanting to leave, so let's wait and see if a trade for the stud CB is in the cards at the trade deadline.

South Division

Hoima Zebra. (D)
Busukuma Suns. (X)
Mukeruzi Hyenas. (X)
Busukuma Athletic Club.

The Hoima Zebra are, quite easily, the most intriguing team on this list. After a long, multi-year pursuit- which included help from the Commissioner's office, as well as the BCSG- they have finally landed the difference maker that they have desperately been waiting for- and his name is Jack Hoy. He needs no introduction, really. The best HB of our time, who never gets hurt or even wears down- the Drawkian is the ultimate weapon in a league like this. And they've built around him. Their quarterback, Anne-Maurcie Vivayavich, with that Chromatik ethos, took a paycut to allow the Zebra to sign Hoy and stay salary cap compliant. And then still- signing Heinrik St. Joseph to play LT, was a coup. Alongside with Mille Ueland, their WR1, still on a rookie contract, and Jannnik Nadine, theri Ranorian WR, taking a paycut- this is a team that is built for success. They are huge favorites in this division, but when you got "ya boy Jack Hoy" onside (at least, that's what startign SS Tuutoo Bokate calls him) you aren't thinking about the division. They've got one thing in mind- and that's a Simba Bowl appearance or bust.

Behind Hoima, we've got the Suns! An ambitious, creative team- even if they distinctly lack at quarterback. They maneuvered to sign Rylan Rodgers, who plays baseball in Sun Valley Stadium for the Busukuma Triceratops, in the LPB. The Ranorian HB is a two sport star athlete. But think of what else they've done. They traded up to the #1 overall pick., and drafted Horace Horton- the NSCF 32 Offensive Player of the Year, and the NSCF 34 Most Outstanding Player- the man who led NMU to their first NSCF championship in 15 seasons. With elite shutdown cornerback LIsa Bonsoon also brought on board through free agency, the Suns didn't see Hoy's signing to a division rival and say F it, we're screwed for 5 years- they loaded up. Now, we don't think they can win the division- they've got a strong roster, but Kadokechi Kattakkesu is simply not gonna get the job done at QB. Not good enough.

We think that the Hyenas will sneak into the playoffs, as well. They've got a veteran QB- Emilee Johansson is 38 years old, out of KCU. The Chromatik is in her last season, and she is, right now, the second best Chromatik QB in her own division- she wants to prove how underrated she was. While Kasozi Batte, her WR1, is the best WR in the league (and possibly the sport), there's not enough depth behind them to do anything better than an 11 seed, in our opinion. And then lastly, we've got Busukuma AC. They are starting Sebowa Jawara- you don't need to say much more than that.

Central Division

Dukuma Dragons. (D)

Umbazi Metropolitan Sporting Club.

This division is, unfortunately, probably quite easily the worst in the GFLB- good if you are a fan of a team hunting for a playoff spot. It will be a wild one to settle- we've got two rookie QBs starting for teams. The WIld Boards drafted Lazarus Ndiege, out of Bolgatanga State, while Umbazi Metropolitan SC drafted Solomon Owaybo, out of Zakuta State. It is an interesting division, with three teams from landlocked Buganda, and then, the Busogan team, the Dukuma Dragons, joining them. It is a unique division in many ways- the only one where all four QBs played college football in Banija, for example. It's an incrediblyt difficult division to try and pick- but if we had to, we will pick the Dragons. They've got the single best skill position player in the entire division, with Samo Sarr- who can hurt you in so many ways. He may be 33, yes, but nobody else in this division can really keep up with him.

We think that the Rhinos can also finish ina playoff spot. Faraba Savaneh is a league average, replacement level QB- but they've got impact players in positions that matter. He's actually got a pretty solid group of WRs to throw to- Alice Conti and Azariah Akombo are both strong WRs, while Matthias Katarina is one of the top tight ends out there. While we do not think they can quite pace with the Dragons, the Rhinos might legitimate be a QB away from being legitimate back in contention.

East Division

St. Jakob Honey Badgers.

The Vanorian team are the big favorites in this division. With Craig Juniper, even at 39 years old, still slinging the ball- they've always got a chance. But they have done a great job surrounding their QB with younger, more energetic talent. Issaka Sarr is a year 2 WR who is quickly emerging- he has the pedigree, of course, as his brother, Samo Sarr, was a stud at Mar Sara Tech, and has been a NT mainstay for about a decade. Alongside drafting Rio Good, out of RU, to play TE, Juniper is certainly the old man in the group- however, they are surrounding the veteran with talent, and putting him in a position to succeed. Can't complain about that, can you? Not to mention, on the other side, you've got a defense anchored by Zelotes Okoth and Munanire Tembo, in addition to Björn Ek being a fresh signing out of Valanora? Dark horse contenders, for sure.

Elsewhere, the Ostriches seem to be recovering from the whole Diamond Rhine situation- as Kohan Ersoy, who led the Islamic University of Busoga to back to back Celestia conference titles (that is NOT a typo), is getting comfortable as the team's QB. They are creative- drafting Jimmy Magandá, out of NMU, in the 3rd round was surely a steal. That said, Bunyoro RSC might be the team to watch out for in this division- as we said, while they are doing well at building in the trenches, they've got a heck of a squad on defense- although it is aging. Alani Sörens and Vaniah Lagum, 6 years ago, would have been the best CB duo the league may has ever seen. But, even at 33 and 35, respectively, they still believe they got it- we'll see if they can hang with some of the younger players in the league.

Gelogathingun's position had already come under heavy fire by parliament, as well as a part of the cabinet. We have a live connection with Oronaki Gesenthenten, political correspondent in the capitals. Oronaki?"

"Hi Hebak, you can see the prime minister's offices behind me in the governmental quarter of Maethoru, and around me you can see the correspondents of other news networks and international press. It's a very crowded afternoon here, news and rumours about Gelogathingun being ousted from her office spread quickly and wildly. No official communication has come out of the Ministry of Domestic Affairs or the offices of the Ambassadors of Meritocracy."

"For the viewers at home, the Ministry of Domestic Affairs is the prime minister's office, and the Ambassadors of Meritocracy is the formal name of the collection of ex-presidens and prime ministers. Oronaki, what has transpired out in front of the ministry that started the news?"

"It started with a few press releases earlier today about the Ambassadors visiting the prime minister for an urgent meeting, as well as the communication two days ago that the Ambassadors had convened for a series of emergency meetings to investigate Gelogathingun's behaviour. A series of official cars arrived at the ministry some twenty minutes ago."

"Thanks, please keep us updated if any new developments occur. Meanwhile, in our studio, professor Camille Dhjoaghin from the political science department of the Université du Quartier International here in Amahne has joined us for a discussion of today's matters. Welcome, professor. So, first of all, what do you think are the odds for a removal from office today?"

"I, uh, honestly don't think we'll see a decision made today. That said, we're in somewhat uncharted territory here, the most recent time the Ambassadors removed someone was fifty-two years ago, as part of the Revolutionary Wave. But those conditions back then cannot be compared to the current situation. Before the Wave, we already had a period of four prime ministers in eight years, and during the Wave the Ambassadors exercised their right at a point where several ex-PMs went after new cabinets with, what we now know, some retaliatory feelings. Judgments at the time are likely not to have been entirely correct, though in hindsight we do agree with the decisions made at the time. Right now, the Ambassadors are only at a reasonable count of nine, with five of them below the age threshold, so it's those five who will make the decisions. And as all five have completed their term, there shouldn't be any hard feelings towards the current cabinet, like there was five decades ago."

"Still, what do you look for in the decision?"

"The Ambassadors formally do not have to have a clear reasoning - not like a court - it's a largely undocumented process. I believe they'll look for matters like our international standing, something that these previous PMs have fought tooth and nail for, and I expect Laurderinthen to defend his parliamentary reforms, which have been cancelled by Gelogathingun. Important pillars of a functioning government, that'd be education, justice, finances, and more, can come into play but I doubt that the Ambassadors will see much at risk there."

"Mayors and members of parliament have called for investigation based on damage done to the justice system, though. How do you view that?"

"They have, but I think that's up to the Constitutional Court, based on the small changes to the system made by the current administration. It shouldn't be necessary to call on the Ambassadors to intervene in what should be regular business."

"Do you think the Ambassadors will rule in favour of Gelogathingun?"

"Hard to say. They will create an interesting precedent if they rule against her, though a case can certainly be made. I fear anything else will be my personal political preference."

"Thank you. Oronaki, any news from Maethoru?"

"Ex-prime minister Laurderinthen is expected to exit the building any minute now for an official address."

But HUElavia has responded to that 49-14 mauling four years ago in this very stadium. They have really brought the fight to what is one of the very best in the Multiverse and against a very loud and hostile environment. 2:00 left in regulation, looking poised to score from the Banijan 28-yard line on a 1st and 10. A field goal is nice to have, but knowing Coach Huamanchagua, he is going to be aggressive with this drive and really put pressure on Banija to not concede a touchdown here."

"Uchechy on the ball, snaps it back... Looking, Looking... Throwing... Caught! Guimarães caught it, just tip toes out at the... 19 yard line? Let's see where they spot it."
"Boy, what a nice catch from Guimarães, and big praise to the offensive line, really has played a clean game, gave Uchechy plenty of time to search for a receiver and gets the necessary time to get the pass through."

2073 By-Elections: Beara-Khan sees an outgoing incumbent with honest words, Nationals' leader remaining optimistic, and a fisherman looking to make surprising difference

MILSON'S POINT, INTEACHAN - In Notiskuan-Ynys Dywyll, nobody is as perfect as a bearer of good news as Nationals leader Warren Woo.

The 54-year-old has a good reason to do so, having survived seven general elections since his first election to the Jeongdeokgoong Parliament in 2044 Federal Election, on the months immediately after the Royal Wedding of Christine II and Caspian of Cassadaigua no less. Even as the opponents threatening his seat have changed, first from the Moogoongwha to the Shingoryeoite Liberals and then the Greens, she seemed unfazed about the opposition that's come her way and remained to stay so.

'Nothing changes between last and upcoming election, let's say,' he said in Welsh, his mother tongue. 'Jocelyn Davies is my distant cousin who I went to school with, so I always have kind words for the fella. But my goal remains on stay winning for the people of Notiskuan-Ynys Dywyll.'

But he's also aware of the narrative surrounding his party right now, as the Nationals' leader is embarking on a challenge to possibly flip seats, in particular northeastern ridings of Songwha-Ravenscraig and Beara-Khan in Inteachan, to turn around soggy fortunes for the party. 'I understand the skepticism surrounding the Nationals rebranding, and I agree with their concerns. We have yet to prove the voters at the polling station that, yes, being the party people wishes us to become is a task that's easier said than done. So we'll have to work our ass off to make sure we continue establishing ourselves as the extension of regional Shin-goryeo, not one that replaces the Congress [shortened term for Congress of Indigenous Shingoryeo, the party's former name -e.d.-]. We aren't gonna be replacing nobody.'

So far the polls have looked good, with Songwha-Ravenscraig byelection looking to be a three-way dogfight between them and Shinminjeon and Moogoongwha, while the Nationals have led in all 4 riding-level polls at Beara-Khan, rural riding south of Milson's Point on southwestern Inteachan that's been held by outgoing, popular incumbent, Irene-May Carlin. Reflecting the sentiments, Woo's already made three trips to the riding alongside his candidate, fisherman Vince McKillop, and is expected to visit a couple more times before the byelection.

Nationally the party's polling figures have looked mediocre at best with the Nationals averaging around eight percent, with seat count would have been sitting around mid-twenties under the former, First-past-the-post system that was last used in 2071 Federal Election and last year's shocking, Place-Calanie-Alexandre-I byelection. The Nationals, citing the focus on 'providing the Joongyeongites most fitting options available at current times', did not field a candidate, instead opting to support the Liberal candidate, Brendan Huys, who would go onto finish third.

Notiskuan-Ynys Dywyll, however, does not appear to reflect the slight air of turmoil in the federal party, as the party support continues to remain firm for Woo, where the longtime incumbent's regarded as the king on the offshore island of 103,000. With the provincial seat and municipal council also under the Nationals' hold, it is a riding stable enough for the party that Woo's team has been able to share local polls that suggested transposed final-runoff results with Woo finishing at whopping 78% preference over the Liberal or the Moogoongwha candidate.

While not the most jubilant with his team's decisions, Woo's not particularly turned off by the notion of him as a beloved representative either. 'What can I say? Not everybody can speak Welsh, herd flocks of sheep, and of course, fight for you nail to tooth each and every step of the day,' said Woo, a 11th-generation farmer and sheep herder who has also served as the Royal Quebecois Coast Guard officer. 'Not a single day has gone by without the work of our hard-working people even when I'm in the capitol or travelling across the country. Easy as that.'

Similar sentiments were shared by Vincent McKillop, the 36-year-old fisherman and preacher who decided to run for the party.

McKillop, unlike Woo, is a political newbie, but similarly considers himself a fighter after surviving a near-death experience on his boat previous year. 'It was a scary episode for me, but one I consider myself fortunate since I was just out in the shore and with a couple of mates on the boat,' McKillop said. 'Further out and alone, I would have died rightaway.'

As for whether that had caused him to change his mind and run for federal office, McKillop didn't disagree. 'Yes, especially since rural health infrastructure is where we still have lots of work to do,' he said. 'Lots of people say the Nationals are obstructionists who don't give a darn about no country, and I say I disagree. Some of the nation's greatest social reforms have come under our party, and I believe that with the rebranding and the focus on regional Shingoryeo, I believe that we'll expand even further to fight for these people.'

Located on the southwestern corner of Inteachan autonomous province, Beara-Khan consists predominantly of suburban Milson's Point and fishing villages that dot across it. It is considered a mixed riding, though with number of retirees on Milson's Point, which has risen considerably in the recent years, has caused an interesting shift towards the Greens and their provincial star, Irene-May Carlin.

Irene-May Carlin, a 71-year-old Mayor of Beara who had held the seat from 2039, made herself available for a brief interview. She has previously announced her retirement from Parliament in February citing 'need to focus on the change in personal priorities', though the rumours inbound from Jeongdeokgoong have alleged that Carlin was feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the party's eco-socialist direction and ill-advised media approach that have departed from her former leader and colleague, Florence Stanasila.

'It's always going to be hard to replace someone like Florence, a woman of true integrity and inner beauty,' Carlin said, toning down on some of personal criticism that she had reportedly said on recent federal riding association meetings. 'She's someone I worked with for most of my time at the Parliament, and I've fought for her each and every step of the day. That's why I've stayed, even as my husband and two boys have asked me to retire - no, I'm not going down without my comrade Flo and others.'

She then would point to her picture with Florence and Works and Trades Secretary Heo Hae-Seon at the Game Seven of the World Baseball Classic Championship Series in Zube last year, where the Grim Reapers prevailed over host Kytler Peninsulae after a nailbiter. 'People would sometimes ask me, "Irene, why are you against this tax and that proposal? Are you even loyal to the leader?" she chuckled. 'I tell them, if I really disliked her or the party, why would I be out watching the greatest moment in country's history with Flo?'

Her thoughts regarding Shimon Reid were negative if unfazed over the party's internal turmoil, where seventeen of the 40 MPs have crossed the floor. 'My values are different than his because I've come from the very bottom at the municipal politics, serving ordinary farmers and fishermen, that's correct,' she said. 'And that's something that has to be respected. This was something that his predecessor always respected and was willing to stay flexible for. She knew where we had to go as a national party, not a regionalist one by the west coast people.'

Carlin's views towards other parties have been more muted, though she's not ruled out on endorsing another party. 'I've yet to make up my mind on them,' she said. 'I will follow and endorse who people of my constituency wants me to endorse. So far, there is no clear winner, though I'm aware that McKillop is leading for the Nationals at this very moment.'

Her thoughts regarding McKillop and Moogoongwha candidate, Omer Ahn, were a simple one about running for the first time. 'You'll get a good hang of it, as long as you feel the pulse in your heart with your constituents,' she said. 'I came from a very privileged position of working as the Mayor of Beara before being elected, but that didn't prepare me enough for the work that is done in Joongyeong. What prepares you for the work in Joongyeong is a sense of duty and constantly being out there for who you are fighting for. If that's not there, then being an MLA for 30 years won't do you shit in the capitol. I hope they understand.'

The following is an except from national newspaper The Katzestadt Times as part of a wider series in the paper's cultural section.

We're kicking off this series with a look at last century's most pressing cult classics - a book which took the author's experiences of growing up destitute in pre-revolution Deerhaven and twisted it into a strangely-structured, surrealistic balancing act between coming of age and defining your own legacy. We're of course talking about none other than Havenhold, the debut (and only) novel by George Knight.

Knight began working on Havenhold in BK74, while he was at the time working as part of the household of Deerhaven's Lord Arthur Mentley, adding pages at the end of each day after the Lord's family went to bed and he had some free time before getting to work preparing breakfast for the following morning.

Broadly speaking, the story follows two men - Adam Richardson and Robert Williams - as they navigate two distinctly separate, yet equally similar worlds. Robert's tale is one more aligned to a traditional coming of age tale - set in Deerhaven, he is born to poor parents and is forced to live in squalor under the rule of a dictatorial local Lord. As he ages, he is eventually sucked into a world he wasn't prepared for and quickly finds his main flaws (such as his obsession to create a lasting legacy as a creative through his magnum opus work, a novel about his own childhood) tearing his life apart at the seams - leading to his eventual ambiguous fate when he walks off the end of the Deerhaven Pier.

Adam meanwhile, is a man who finds himself in the strange city of Rockthaw - with no memory as to how he arrived and quickly picking up that everyone who inhabits the city exhibits strongly shifting emotions and physically impacting diseases which works to suck the life out of the more inflicted citizens. As he explores the city, he soon becomes infected as well, leading him down a race against time to find a cure and save himself.

Straddling through an increasingly-dreamlike and surreal backdrop - including areas fading into nothingness and rapid leaps in time and place - Adam comes face to face with Robert and it is revealed that Adam is the main character in Robert's magnum opus. But without an ending to the work, Adam is forced to remain stuck in place, watching in horror as the world continues to fall apart at the seams.

Knight would work on the novel for more than twenty years, eventually seeing it published in BK51, where the book would become a sleeper hit, buoyed by huge critical success thanks to its boldness in structure and wider themes of legacy.

Why is it important?

Split into three 'books' which make up the wider 572-page novel, Havenhold's biggest selling point in terms of importance is its structure. While traditional novels will logically take you from Book One to Two to Three, Havenhold treats the narrative order as cards in a deck, shuffling them around to create a surreal and at-times incredibly confusing structure.

Havenhold begins instead, with Book Two - detailing the story of Adam as he awakes in Rockthaw and works to save himself - before jumping back to Book One and going into the wider story of Robert and his childhood. Book Three - detailing the adult phase of Robert's life - follows immediately after, before the book stops in place - only a few chapters before the end of Book Three - to hard cut to the Epilogue, in which Adam and Robert meet, before cutting back to the end of Book Three where the novel finally ends with Robert plunging off the end of Deerhaven Pier.

It was a radical change from the standard format of novels which had been popularised in Katzeburg up until that point - there had been no experiments of structural storytelling of this nature and when Havenhold hit shelves in BK51 there was nothing else like it in stores at the time.

Knight, who died in BK27 while in the midst of writing a potential follow-up to the novel, was infamously very coy as to why he decided to develop the novel in this structure, telling KBC in BK36 that "it wasn't my intention to lay the story out in that manner originally, but as I wrote it became more clear to me that I needed to have the story read in one manner but thought of by the reader in another entirely - and that's when the approach hit me."

To many critics, the two stories of Adam and Robert can be seen as separate sides of the same coin - Adam, despite being the work of the Robert, is a figure which replicates Robert's own experiences and overarching story, but existing in an exaggerated reality compared to the more grounded plot of Robert. Additionally, the ending has been viewed as intrinsically tying the two characters together to feed into a wider theme of legacy and the importance of leaving a mark upon the world - Adam of course leaves no legacy, if only because Robert fails to complete his own.

How did it change Katzeburgian literature?

Havenhold revolutionised Katzeburgian storytelling in narrative form, breaking open the shackles of what types of stories could be told and how formats could play a part in breaking down the narrative style. Knight's approach would be increasingly echoed across Katzeburgian media over the following decades, with Willow Dryden's Branches of Time arguably the most recent example of significant jumps around the timeline while telling a story.

In addition, the epilogue and the final chapters of the book - highly commented on by academics studying Katzeburgian literature, stands as one of the most well-known meta representations in Katzeburgian fiction. Initially confusing many of the readers due to the lack of meta narratives in the wider cultural canon at that point, the ending would eventually become one of the most well-known culturally because of the fact it led the pack of meta narratives, only really compared with the ending of KBC drama Lake Byrne - which itself revolutionised meta narratives on television.

Is it actually worth reading?

Yes and No. At the time Havenhold was groundbreaking fiction - but as time has progressed and authors got to better grips with structural and storytelling shifts, there are some fatal flaws which have come out of Knight's work. Most notably, this can be seen in the significant repetition of events which have occurred earlier in the novel being retold in varying lengths, with Knight clearly not confident in his audience that they would understand the overall plot without it clearly being brought back into mind each and every single time, overtly bloating the wider novel with about 150-200 pages of fluff which a modern editor would leave on the cutting room floor.

Additionally, modern readers may struggle to understand a lot of the references to a pre-revolution Katzeburg - especially when told through the lens of Knight's pessimistic world-view, which describes Katzeburg as a barren wasteland where opportunity goes to die. While some of the prose may resonate with those who lived through the Revolution - for younger audiences, Robert's world can seem as alien as that of Adam's.

But make no mistake - the shape of the narrative itself and the strong thematic tale and ideas around legacy and one's role in the wider world is what makes Havenhold worth reading, and the core theme of the book - that legacy is what you define of it and obsessing over chasing a long-lasting legacy will do nothing but suck the life out of you as it passes you by - is something which will resonate with many Katzeburgians past, present, and future.

Knight's own fears and worries about failing to leave a mark on the world ultimately would lead him to Havenhold, but the positive reception of it would force the author to spend his remaining years constantly tinkering away on a second book to cement his legacy, never reaching a stage where he was happy with his follow-up. At the end of the day, Knight was more like Robert and Adam then he would have wanted.

Coming off of a blowout loss to the United States of Devonta, Nortallius was looking to bounce back on the road against the Free Republics. They were able come out with a win in a defensive battle, 10-6. The defense did an amazing job holding off the Free Republics' offensive attack, limiting them to just two field goals in the entire game, kicked in the second and third quarters. Defensive coaches Cullen Dubar and Karyn Purdy were able to set up a defense that successfully pressured the quarterback while almost completely eliminating big plays. DEs Brooks Cleveland and Reuben Stone sacked the quarterback 2 and 1 time, respectively, while LDT Royce Galvin added another. Safeties Hyman Bush and Tommy Calhoun each had an interception. CBs Clayton Khan and Giovanni Omenihu were also crucial, breaking up passes and discouraging throwing the ball. On the other side of the ball, the offense wasn't quite as effective. QB Keion Mathis played the entire game and finished with 220 passing yards on 23/31 passing with one interception and one touchdown. That touchdown came early in the first quarter with a 27 yard pass to TE William Bynes. Bynes was the leading receiver, accumulating 92 yards on 8 receptions. The run game also struggled a bit. RBs Eric Wyatt and Orion Walker finished with 42 and 39 yards, respectively. Kicker Rock Koonce scored on a 33 yard field goal in the third quarter to put Nortallius up 10-6 in what would turn out to be the final score.

Nortallusian fans packed into Ulysses Gillespie Memorial Stadium in Cliffside for the national team's second home game. This was despite the venue living up to its nickname, with frigid temperatures and lake effect snow throughout the entire game. Nortallius' vice president and avid football fan Catherine Rainges was in attendance at the Winter Bowl, cheering on the Nortallusians as they faced Tjorl. It was another defensive battle for Nortallius, with the low scoring only being exacerbated by the weather conditions. Tjorl struck first, with a field goal in the first quarterback. Nortallius responded with a 31 yarder from kicker Rock Koonce. Nortallius took the lead late in the second quarter with a 19 yard run from RB Orion Walker to put them 10-3 at the end of the first half. Tjorl came out of the gates swinging in the third to score a touchdown of their own to tie up the game at 10 a piece. With the snow only getting worse, there was no scoring to be seen due to a missed field goal by both teams until the final moments of the fourth quarter. Having made it all the way to Tjorl's 33 yard line with 4 seconds left, head coach Collis Holland signaled for the last timeout. It was going to be up to Rock Koonce to prevent the game from going into overtime. As snow continued to flurry, Koonce lined up the kick and sent the ball a shade to the left and through the uprights for a 50 yard field goal and the win. It was another strong defensive performance for Nortallius, who came up with four turnovers during the game: two interceptions from CB Giovanni Omenihu and SS Hyman Bush, a fumble recovered by RDT Ismael Monroe and a forced fumble from SLB Jacques McBryde. LDE Brooks Cleveland and RDE Reuben Stone each had a sack. Again, Nortallius struggled on offense. QB Keion Mathis played the entire game and threw for 192 yards on 19/28 passing with 1 interception. Conrad Canaday added another turnover with a fumble in the third quarter. Orion Walker started at RB and finished with 81 yards and 1 TD, while RB Eric Wyatt added another 13 yards. The low offensive performance may have been due to the snow, but they struggled in their last and this was their home turf. If the offensive play improves, Nortallius could be a force to be reckon with.

Learn More About the Legendary Stadium
Ulysses Gillespie Memorial Stadium, known by nicknames such as the Winter Bowl and Lakeside Stadium is one of the oldest and most storied football venues in Nortallius. The exterior of the building is made of brick and the design of the stadium is in a combination of Beaux-Arts and Art Deco. Ulysses Gillespie is currently home to both the Milletan University Bucks, who play college football on Saturdays, and the Cliffside Mustangs, who play in the NNFA on Sundays. The stadium currently has a capacity of about 92,000 and is already one the largest stadiums in the nations, but plans are underway to expand seating to over 100,000. Structures are moved to allow for field storming during college games in case of an upset or major win, but also arranged to prevent it during NNFA games, which the league strictly prohibits. The stadium is situated two miles north of downtown Cliffside, Milletan, just outside of Milletan University's campus. The stadium was built 93 years ago for Milletan U, one of the most successful college football programs in the country, and was originally named Milletan Stadium. One of the star players to play there was Milletan native Ulysses Gillespie, nicknamed "Big U", who played wide receiver for the Bucks. Gillespie then played professional football for the Cliffside Mustangs for most of his career, transitioning to playing quarterback after an injury. He retired after playing two seasons with the Concordia Captains and returned to Milletan to coach his alma matter, which he did for 30 seasons. The stadium was renamed Ulysses Gillespie Stadium in his honor, and renamed Ulysses Gillespie Memorial Stadium after his passing 10 years ago. The Mustangs, who were moving out of Hayden Field, arranged a deal with the university to play their home games at the winter bowl, where they have played for the last 25 years. The stadium is open-air and due to the effects of the Inland Lakes, lake effect snow is a common feature of games played at Ulysses Gillespie Memorial Stadium.

Coming out of the opening win in Ko-oren, the biggest gripe that the average Iron Legion fan had had was that Anne-Maurice and the offense hasn't got much done through three quarters, needing to come alive in the fourth to secure the win. They were happy, of course, with the win, but with the competition being so heavily weighted toward the top ranked squads, it was expected that Chromatika would make adjustments, and fast.

With an offensive line that was playing together for the very first time, the running game of the Iron Legion took a massive step forward in the home opener against Abanhfleft, combining for 181 yards on 28 carries, along with two touchdowns on the ground. AMV was surgical through the air, finding the Silverman brothers for a score each, and the Iron Legion locked down defensively after conceding an opening drive touchdown, locking down the Fleftics behind the strength of their secondary.

Then, in the third matchup of the World Bowl group stage, Chromatika went on the road to Serenitas Novae and put on the clamps, forcing three turnovers that led to 17 of their 13 points in a 30-7 drubbing, the only touchdown given up coming in garbage time against the backups with the team choosing to rest players since it's a long campaign. Since the Ko-orenite test, Anne-Maurice Vivayavich has gone 41-of-50 for 481 yards and four touchdowns; this level of efficiency was exactly what the coaching staff wanted to see from her in the first Group Stage without Sarai Gwenderyn leading the squad.

Vivayavich is nowhere as athletic as Anne-Maurice was in her prime; however, she's a big frame with a strong arm that can make throws across all three levels, and her pocket mobility is rather underrated by many, allowing her to buy crucial seconds for her receivers to fight through their routes and get open. Add in the communication that she's already built up with Center Markus Xenneret, who is very capable of calling out protections, and there is genuine hope regarding the Iron Legion's offense going forward heading toward stiffer defenses.

Speaking of defenses, the linebacking couple of Park Mi-Hyeon and Jere Rinaldi are doing wonders in their final World Bowl as a starting pair, leading the team in tackles. Generation just enough pass rush from the defensive line, it's been the secondary that's been the star of the show, helped along by the dynamic Freya Odinsdóttir playing a bigger role from the Outside Linebacker/edge rusher role.

With four of the next six opponents unranked, and none of them within the top twenty in the world, the Iron Legion's games will matter not in just if they win or lose, but by the facet by which they win or lose. The games against South Newlandia and Ranoria are coming, and after that, the playoffs; Chromatika cannot just sit idly by and observe things at neutral. Way too many of the player combos are new, and the expectation regarding this team remains at a relative high despite how new a lot of the players are at their roles.

Chromatik Football Federation Invests 1 Billion NMS to Gridiron Football

Speaking from the Chromatik Football Federation Headquarters in Chromia, Viktor Karras, Jr. announced that the CFF would be investing 1 billion NMS into gridiron football, specifically in high school gridiron, collegiate gridiron, and the reestablishment of a thriving domestic scene that will eventually grow to sixteen teams.

"With the nation starting to recover from everything - and the fact that the Chromatik people need more sports in their life, there is no denying the impact that gridiron football has had on the country. We've received a total of 1 billion NMS in donations to support gridiron football in Chromati, and we look forward to spending the money wisely to support the sport on all levels," stated Karras, Jr.

First, high school football teams will return to playing in the eastern half of Myana island, including a historic team in the Academy of the Jungle. Although other teams based out of Eyrods - like Eyrods Tech, Myana Eyrodii, and the Eyrods Pilots - were allowed to leave, there was no way for the Academy to do so; they now return with the rebuilding of the eastern half of Myana Island having been mostly completed.

The CFF also confirmed that Mountain District University (MDU), Technological Institute of Z'ai'ai (TIZ), and Chromia Central College University (CCCU) will be the three entrants to the NSCF for at least the next five years, with the CFF looking to see how they are doing after that point. In a separate interview, the CFF stated that there could be a change if a particular program is consistently underperforming, and another program is consistently dominating the Chromiatk Collegiate Gridiron Conference.

The CCGC will expand to eight schools, run in the two-division format. They will be University of Myana, Urrheddiao State University, University of the Islands, and Eyrods Tech in the Island Division, and Lanar University, Sanar University, Alnio University of the Arts, and Chromatik State University in the Mainland Division. After playing each school within their division twice and each team on the other division once, the top four teams will move to the playoffs in a single-elimination bracket. The CFF also promised that there will be an exhibition spring game between the CCGC champion and the best performing Chromatik school in the NSCF every year.

Finally, the CFF stated that professional gridiron football will expand to sixteen teams within five years, with new potential locations being Lhor, Umbar, Ming, Hanai, and the Yesopalithan capital of Freedom's Altar.

Although this news has been met with some criticism due to the fact that many think the money could be spent on more timely things for society, public response has been electric concerning the expansion of gridiron football in Chromatika.

After stumbling out of the gate with a rough road trip in the first match of the World Bowl campaign, the Sabres responded with a thorough defeat of The Golden Harp in their home opener. Odin Sørbø showcased the talent that made him an NSCF most valuable candidate for multiple seasons and why he was able to take the Rockets to at least the semifinals of the competition in three of his four years as a starter. It is that same insane amount of talent that has seen him hit the ground running over the last few seasons in Banija with Jinja City, his unique elite passing ability combined with his mobility making him one of the true great quarterbacks of the current age. Perhaps not talked about quite as much because of the Sabres inability to make a real impact at the World Bowl, only recently having found a way to win over teams ranked higher than them and win a game in the knockout rounds, though having been batted back down by true elite competition like Chromatika before getting a deep run into the knockouts. It has felt like the Sabres are eternally stuck at or around the eighth spot in the rankings, good but not able to overcome the established teams.

With the way that the team performed in HUElavia, it is hard to think that they are going to make a change here in this edition of the competition, slipping up in a terrible fashion at the first time of asking against a quality opponent is certainly not a convincing argument that things can be different. Though with Banija losing at home to that same HUElavia squad, perhaps there is more to that squad this edition of the competition than what was originally let on and they themselves are set for a high water mark here in this edition of the competition, having bested the two best team in the group already. Regardless, the way that the Sabres responded in the next game was quite a shot in the arm to try and get the team back on track and they played about as well as they were being billed up to be before that opening game. Odin finished with quite the impressive stat line with going twenty-eight of thirty-four for three hundred twelve yards and four touchdown passes as the offense put up forty-three points in the home opener. The defense showed improvement in keeping the visitors to just three scoring drives, two of those being field goals and should hopefully keep improving as the competition goes on.

Though the level of the competition did decrease significantly with the second road trip to Comrades United, the Sabres looked far more impressive in the second trip away from the Empire. For a second straight game the offense was on fire and though Sørbø finished with few yards, only throwing for two hundred eighty-two yards in the game, it was a far more complete performance for the offense. Alexander Østby was the featured back and added a nice balance to the passing attack, getting a hundred twelve yards on nineteen carries, adding another thirty-four yards in the air on four receptions. The offensive line provided sublime protection for both the quarterback and great execution of their blocking assignments on running plays to create great running lanes for the back to hit. The defense did have a bit more bend to it than the home game but giving up ten points during garbage time in the fourth quarter when the victory was already well in hand is not the end of the world, it does show that the depth is perhaps not as highly tuned as the coaches might want. Yet a twenty-six point margin of victory on the road is impressive, regardless of the competition.

The back to back victories have definitely been a course correction for the Sabres and they have to be feeling quite better about themselves than they must have felt after the opening game, especially with Banija and Equestria having been upset in each of these weeks. It is showing that there is perhaps a bit more flexibility and unpredictability to come to this group than what originally had been thought after the groups had been drawn. The Sabres are still among the favorites to advance out of the group, though Draakur as well as HUElavia are leading the way with both teams undefeated through the first few games. HUElavia's wins are more impressive with having taken down ourselves as well as Banija, though that Draakur has come out of nowhere and only has given up twenty-eight points in three games is mightily impressive. It is the nineteenth ranked and seemingly defensive juggernaut whom the Sabres will be visiting in two weeks time, after a home game next week against unranked Jaoaa, who also looks to be dabbling in the defensive arts. It is a group that has been low scoring and that will be something to keep an eye on, especially with the Sabres high powered offense that like to light up the scoreboard with multiple scores a quarter. What will win out in this group, the defensive prowess that seems to be prevalent to start the group stage or Vanorian offensive might and tenacity?

Gridiron in the Martian Independent Republic happens mostly in Tyrrhena Base, but even then it's only on a football pitch without gridiron markings. Thus, the 'home stadium' of the MIR is Another Field (200), in the sparsely populated Anaian part of the MIR. Zero signage has been put up informing people of this, nor has any communication been done. If you go to Aeolis Base, they'll send you to Tyrrhena. Find out where they play yourself.

After a good start in Tjorl, the Gridiron Jaguars of TJUN-ia had certainly started on the right track - but everyone knew that once we were deep into group play, that's when we could fully comprehend just where we were at in regards to the universal picture. One game can only tell us so much, and while Jason Steels looks great in that one game, Gus McKerrin didn't want to get overconfident on the back of that one game. Everything can change in an instant in this sport and so, we must treat things one game at a time. With that in mind, let us begin again.

Game 2 of this Road Trip to kick off the campaign would take us to Velstrania, another debutant in this group that we had to face just this once due to the format. This time around, Steels managed 3 TDs - two via Yurilka Zelinskaya and one from Harrison Jeffers - but in this one, that didn't end up being enough. The opposite number, whoever that was, ended up scoring five TDs and kicked our behind a bit, 34-21. Lessons learned for sure.

The Field of Dreams in The Gardens of New Washington finally had its chance to shine on MD3, with #31 Juvencus making their way to the NAU Zone looking to protect their unbeaten start. We thought that this one would be tough to try and win, but restricting the visitors to only 6 points was a good way to set the tone. That gave Steels plenty of time to try and cook something crazy and in this mission, 4 TDs would be scored - 2 via Patrícia Chládeková, 1 each for Harrison Jeffers and Catherine Alcaraz-Cortéz. At 27-6, it wasn't a statement, but it was still a good win all the same.

Next time will be a big window as a trip to Cliffside to face the debuting Nortallius precedes the arrival of #4 Quebec and Shingoryeo to these shores. Two big games record-wise, two opportunities to showcase our abilities.

"We have seen no evidence to suggest that the cabinet should be ousted from office right now. Also, we trust the work of the Constitutional Court, as the Ambassadors should in no way interfere with the rule of law as already in place in Ko-oren. The Constitutional Court is the correct organisation to judge whether decisions by the government are, or are not, in line with how we've envisioned Ko-oren to be run as written down in the constitution. The Ambassadors have a right and a duty to hear their opinion before making rash decisions. They can't remove a head of state, so depending on their findings, we will arrive at our decision."

"With that address by ex-prime minister Laurderinthen, we will go back to the studio in Amahne. Hebak?"

"Thank you, Oronaki, please keep us updated. Professor Dhjoaghin, you predicted there would be no decision today, and it seems the fate of Gelogathingun's cabinet is tied to the hearings in front of the judges of the Constitutional Court. Do you read anything into this?"

"Not necessarily, I think it's the only correct move in this case. If the Ambassadors had proceeded to oust Gelogathingun based on the evidence that was made public, there would have been a precedent of the Ambassadors shadow ruling the government well after their term has ended. Mind you, this is why terms end after six years, and that prime ministers and presidents are not allowed a third term: that way, no matter the damage they've done, it can be corrected by the next person in charge, and course corrections are possible. But the previous prime minister, just after their second term, is now in charge of deciding whether the new prime minister is allowed to complete their term - you see where this can go wrong, no? If the ex-PM still has a grudge or an agenda, they can blackmail the new PM into doing what they want, and they can remove the new PM from power if they do not comply. That's not a road we want to go down politically, so I'm happy with how the Ambassadors are handling it. This gives the Constitutional Court de facto the power to remove a head of state, which is certainly worth studying. If any of my students are currently watching, this is a phenomenal topic for next semester. But it does leave all decisions to public cases and public evidence, without the Ambassadors hogging power."

"Doesn't this make the upcoming hearing even more pivotal than it already is?"

"It already was pivotal, in my opinion. If the court decides that decisions go against the constitution - and the spirit of it, as interpreted by the court - all of that policy would have to be reverted, which sets back the cabinet's agenda years, and by that point, we're due a new cabinet anyway. What I'm more interested in is which cabinet members are complicit, and what that means for the next cabinet: will they have to do a full cleaning house of the current cabinet? Normally, most ministers carry over to a new PM, but that seems like a risk. And the selectors - what criteria will they change? They shouldn't appoint a dubious or unpredictable PM, so what did they fail to see in the process?"

Ikaras was Ikaras Benthanra, the chief justice of the Constitutional Court, who just closed the browser tab with the livestream. It just dawned on him that his court's decision will determine the country's course for the next decade.

"You mean like, ellieade?" Big defensive tackle Deandre Kelly asked him, "I guess that would keep you from cramping, so yeah, loose..."

"What?" Rayne laughed, "Nah nah man, the good shit," he popped open his locker's cubby to reveal a bottle of well aged whiskey, "Who do you think you're talking to?" Rayne filled the cup again and downed his next shot.

"Whatever works..."

Immovable Object:
Best In Class Defense Pitches Back-To-Back Shutouts

Krauts CB Landon Rayne has been as-advertised, emerging quickly as one of the stars of one of the best defenses in the world

Sitting at 5-0, no one has any doubt as to Ranoria's game plan at this point in the tournament - pound the rock, rely on a defense that's handed a goose egg to three of their five opponents, and win the damn game. A perfect mixture of older veterans, superstars in their prime, and young, electric talents keeps this unit fast, experienced, and athletic. Najee Isidora and Akhello Volson still hold their own among the world's elite. Julian Anneliese has taken over the team's power rusher spot with Gideon Kearse taking a backseat. Abram Fairbanks? Still coming off the bench from time to time as a pass rusher, with more guys like Alexander Eisenberg manning a deep defensive front. But the real surprise has been Landon Rayne.

Rarely does this team bring on true rookies, and even more rarely are they instant stars. But Rayne has quickly proven his mettle - he's already forced three turnovers inside field goal range this season, all helping preserve shutouts, and has allowed just a pair of short catches to this point per advanced stats.* He's largely avoided postgame interviews despite his flash on the field, but he's by far and away been the fastest rising star on this team, even with a first year starter at quarterback - a quarterback whose job is being made infinitely easier by Rayne's defense, even if the offense hasn't quite been up to snuff.

Flowers ripped off a four hundred yard, three touchdown performance in week one, seemingly enough to slam the door on any conversation regarding his role. But Ever since, not so great. Despite the defense producing plenty of turnovers, generally controlling the opposition's offense, and offering up prime field position, the team's only cracked twenty points twice since. Head coach Isaac Dieter says this is all by design - and to be fair, in each of those contests, the team's handed the ball off more than forty times.

"We have an elite quarterback," the Krauts lead man said at a postgame presser following a 13-0 win over The Martian Independent Republic, "But we've been able to control the game without issue in our past four. We're deeper at the quarterback position than we were last season, but I don't want to risk an injury there if I can help it. As long as other teams can't adapt to Ragnar [Sampson] and RRJ's legs, we don't need to change our strategy."

In theory, that's fine. Dieter is a 38-10 now as a head coach on this stage with a championship in his back pocket. The issue of course, is that this seems like another team that has the promise of a second gear offensively if they need it like so many others while they rely on a strong ground game and elite defense. But how many of those teams have gotten exposed once it actually comes time to hit that gear?

Dante Flowers is certainly a budding star at the quarterback position - he has a cannon of an arm, and was uber productive in Cold Hill. Back-to-back strong seasons under center in the RFL for the lowly Lafayette crusaders have proven his talent. But he will be tested in the coming months, with matches against Cardenao and an away trip to duel the Iron Legion on the horizon. Bobby Dials and AMV - who's suddenly looking like she may be a star at the position - may be able to work their way through this juggernaut of a defense. Will Flowers be able to answer if his name is called?

The Symphony of Destruction

HUElavia continues their fantastic run in the World Bowl, getting a blistering win and a very close win!

Something has changed in this team since 4 years ago. HUElavia has come out in this World Bowl dominating games and not allowing their opponents run away with any lead, if at all. Beating Valanora and Banija in their opening two games put nations in the World Bowl on notice for how HUElavia plays. The offense has been fantastic from the get go, with Uchechy picking up where he left off and showing the Multiverse why he is HUElavia's QB1. 9 TDs and over 2K yards thrown in the air has given HUElavia plenty of life in the passing game, while only having 2 Interceptions and 1 Fumble up to now. Uche has ran for 5 touchdowns so far, being the bruising RB he makes himself to be.

The defense hass been antastic, with 14 interceptions so far, along with 5 forced fumbles, all resulting in HUElavian recoveries. The Gigot twins have been a revelation on the team, especially in forcing two of those 5 fumbles, as well as accounting for 4 sacks each so far. The secondary has been just about a No-fly zone with the constant break-ups and interceptions, led by Oogami and Talatala so far. And one cannot forget the sacks from Ogbonna and Chukwuma, especially a Fumble 6 brought from a forced fumble from Chukwuma, only for Ogbonna to pick it up and run it for the score against The Golden Harp.

Special teams has been running well, with Soler not missing a single field goal or extra point in this competition so far. His longest so far was a 60-yarder against Comrades United, that just narrowly went in during the 3rd Quarter. Katterfeld has been on the money with his punts, really forcing opponents to start deep in nearly every drive.

Some believe that the entrance song Symphony of Destruction has given this team an aura, a hungry motivation to prove their worth to the Multiverse that they are one of the best. And this team feels they truly are one of the best and one's to watch out for in this tournament. Only time will tell if they can put something together and make a deep and historical run.

2073 By-Elections: Longtime Hills of Madeleine Councillor Salgado reflects on his family history excitement ahead of his second chance at federal politics

KINGSTON, MAHAN - It wasn't always the most straightforward pathway to running for Ludovic Salgado.

On paper he was the perfect candidate for the federal party, the former Young Liberals president who's since become a prolific councillor in his hometown of Hills of Madeleine, a suburban city of 260,000 northeast of Kingston, for twenty years.

His track record as an organiser, and an ally's proven, even more so as he would help coordinate several leadership victories, including that of Mahan Liberal leadership race by current Premier Kenneth Bryce-Mercer in 2065, as well as helping both Linfield and Summerville ridings into red fortress on eastern half of the Greater Kingston Area that's had swingy tendencies over the decades.

For those who knows him, his success comes off as very little surprise. Most do attribute his stylistics, an aggressive campaigner who hits every door possible, to the fact he is a stepson of Dr. Hong Yi-Woong, currently regarded as the greatest Shingoryeoite campaign manager who's managed Prime Ministers Arsene Pineau Kim and Kang Tae-Goo's four federal election victories. But for all those claims of relations, Ludovic's quick to consider those connections more as 'kind words that mean very little' to him.

'It was a sheer matter of coincidence that the Doctor and I ended up on the same party,' he said, while alluding to his Catholic faith. 'I was a Liberal supporter all my life, dating back to my parents and maternal grandma being one - it helped that my faith helped guide me to the party, something that I didn't always share with the Doctor, one of the few Anglicans in the city who voted Liberal when he first appeared in my life. I was a freshman at Coloratura State back then.'

For much of his earlier years, he was better remembered as a star baseball prospect. Playing both pitcher and shortstop at St. Mark's Catholic, school his late mother attended, a national semifinals appearance from a class-C school was more than enough for him to secure a college scholarship with QBO prospects.

There he too excelled, and would eventually find his way to the professional baseball on a five-year stint career that saw 31 QBO games played and most of his time spent in the minor leagues. By this point, he was trying to figure out a life past baseball while a law school student at Queen's College, and the opportunity interning with the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), unexpectedly set up by Hong, caused him to enter the political world that he had briefly stepped aside in favour of his baseball dreams.

'Very few knows that at age twenty, I was the Young Liberals president, and yet I just decided to not care for five years post-graduation because I wanted something that I felt suited me better!' he chuckled. 'I really wanted to become that Blue Jays star that my mum and I used to watch the games for. So instead I tried my best to serve elsewhere.'

So he entered the world of politics after graduation, starting out at the municipal level where he thought could make difference early and fast. He had originally expected the stay to be short, mostly eyeing his interests on federal level, but neither seat opened up for him, who had gotten married with a son, baseball prospect Alois, until 2071.

This wasn't an issue for him, especially since he's found other ways to support in ways eerily similar to his stepfather, whom he had always maintained great distance. His relationship with Hong is tricky at best, mostly due to his late arrival. 'There's always going to be that emotional gap between Doctor and I, that's something we knew very early on,' he said. 'There's that worry I held for many years that Alma, my late mother, would forget Boris so quickly after he died my freshman year of college.'

'It wasn't that I was worried about his relationship with my mother - I will tell you the opposite to prove my confidence in him - but there are some emotional gaps between us, as stepfather and stepson, that were never going to be bridged. And that's okay, because there are other ways we could contribute, and for us it's the same red banner we held,' he said.

There were times when the relationship was tested, however, losing the 2071 preselection to Adrienne Thomas-Ironside, a 25-year old staffer and former Young Liberals president like him, on a two-to-one margin didn't help their relationship. Rumours spewed quickly, in that Hong strongly advocated federal riding association members and volunteers to select Thomas-Ironside over him, and Hong's refusal to run at Lanka-Preston-Blouin, a relatively safe seat in Anju, did not help the matters either.

'It's never easy when you are the one watching on the sidelines, because there is so much coming out of the chimney you thought you are in a war zone,' Ludovic responded, after thinking through on how to respond for some time. 'But don't let that distract you from the fact that nothing changed on the trail. I was upset for a couple of days, but that didn't matter since I still got myself and my team ready to canvass and campaign for Adrienne. And yes, we did win Summerville with 54%, highest ever we've ever gotten there - that's what we call teamplay right there.'

The hard part came after the victory, however, when his mother Alma passed in September 2071. Her passing, after four decades fighting a rare illness, was one that's long time in making, but did leave a heavy heart for everybody including Ludovic and Hong, who was hospitalised following a suicide attempt at her funeral.

'It wasn't easy for any one of us, and deep inside all of us felt some sort of guilt for things we could have said, things we could have done, et cetera. Nothing you can do to get past that. But we also have to keep on fighting for them - before she passed, that's what Alma asked me to do so, to keep on running until I could reach the highest post. So that's what I did,' he said.

Sooner than later, however, his second chance at federal politics would indeed come up, as Diane Castrili, MP for neighbouring Hills of Madeleine-Linfield since 2054, decided to retire to work for Premier Bryce-Mercer's office on special advisor. This opened up a seat for Salgado, who was promptly named the riding's nominee at the federal convention in Joongyeong last April.

In an unusual race that slates itself against nine other byelections happening across the country, Ludovic's aware he can't keep his guard too low on this race, especially after losing out on preselection just two years ago. The riding, while neighbouring to his home borough of Summerville, is much more urbanised and has different population makeup and interests to start with.

'You have to build a new team, quickly and fast,' Ludovic quipped on the likelihood of running, while also pointing to the local riding poll that had put him at 65-35% against either Moogoongwha or a 'community independent' on the final runoff. 'Numbers right now look very good for us, that's correct, but I don't expect everybody to come over from Summerville. We are talking about a very different part of the town that has crime and inter-ethnic tensions to be concerned about, so we'll have to address these questions.'

After a 2-1 start to kick off this World Bowl, the Gridiron Jaguars of TJUN-ia were feeling alright about themselves as we started to approach halfway in this group stage. Everyone was still chill, but Gus McKerrin knew that at some point, things would have to pick up. The question was, how would we fare later in this tournament? And could we survive everything that was to come? Only one way to find out...

The Ulysses Gillespie Memorial Stadium in Cliffside would host this interesting contest against a 2-1 debutant in the form of Nortallius looking to prove that their good start wasn't flukish at all. Collis Holland has an interesting team at his disposal, and there were times where Keion Mathis posed a serious challenge to our defence...but they held firm, a shutout in fact, and Jason Steels did the rest. 3 TDs, one via a rush and two to Yurilka Zelinskaya, and a 23-0 result to take back home. Simple.

Then came a huge game at The Field of Dreams in The Gardens of New Washington as the undefeated #4 Grim Reapers of Quebec and Shingoryeo came to town looking to show their might to the TJUN-ian public. Getting any kind of result out of this game would've been tough, but the fact we kept things somewhat tight has to count for something, right? Steels ran home a TD, Glory Oparanozie got a FG, and Donovan Nimischuuch's all-out offence could only manage 23 points - with Benoit Youngblood only managing 3 TDs against us. Sure, we did lose at home and fell to 3-2, but only losing 23-10 to the Grim Reapers isn't too bad at all. In fact, we could take some positives from this result.

3-2 at halftime - not too bad, but we will be hoping for more in the 2nd half. A trip to the #6 Grid Corps of Drawkland is a road trip that is hotly anticipated, and all before #20 Natkr comes to town.

Anne-Maurice Vivayavich: Chromatika's New Hope?

With Anne-Maurice Vivayavich stepping into the starting Quarterback role for the Chromatika Iron Legion, there was some trepidation about how the team would play with the Loyola-Istria graduate under center. So far? So good, with the team going 5-0 midway through Group Stage play and averaging 28 points a game. Sure, the defense is the calling card of this team with the way that they like to swarm to the ball, but Anne-Maurice, known as "AMV" by her teammates, has been solid throughout the early going. Is she the one that this team has been waiting for?

Sarai Gwenderyn's mark on Chromatik gridiron football cannot be understated. She was the one that helped the Firehawks onto the scene, which in turn grew the Iron Legion into a force. She helped the team to multiple World Bowl Final berths, and although Chromatika is winless in the final, the fact that they made it to multiple finals is behind her play. She was a dual-threat Quarterback in her youth that grew into a pocket passer as the years went on; she portrayed a firm, quiet level of determination that the rest of the team modeled their game after.

In comparison, Anne-Maurice is a hyper-accurate rapid processor whose knowledge of the game is better than most Offensive Coordinators. She has total control over the Iron Legion's offense, Naia Curentino trusting her to make all kinds of audibles and protection changes at the line of scrimmage. Couple her with the smarts of the Silverman brothers, the physical play of Constantine Perrier, and the veteran smarts of Demitrius St. Pierre, and it looks like the presence of one Alessandra Mio isn't being missed as much as people thought.

Anne-Maurice also brings to bear the mindset of how a Banijan organization like Loyola-Istria views gridiron football. She doesn't have the pressure that Sarai did in her latter tournaments, and this team is not built on her success - it's more contingent on the defense continuing to play well with the core of Park and Rinaldi and the secondary players pitching in with Freya Odinsdóttir as the wildcard.

Sure, there are huge matchups coming against South Newlandia and Ranoria, and the World Bowl playoffs have proven time and time again to be the Iron Legion's undoing. Yes, she's never faced that much pressure before, and Loyola-Istria never won a NSCF title while she was their Quarterback. However, there has to be something said about someone who can step up into a role that was so heavily exemplified by a legend without making you feel like you're missing that legend. AMV's quiet confidence, smarts, and play so far has been stellar.

South Newlandia and Ranoria await - with Ranoria being the team that's conceded a total of thirteen points in five matches. There will be plenty of opportunities coming for AMV to prove that she's more than just Sarai's replacement - for now, though, the Iron Legion are happy that she's holding up her end of the bargain.

Freedom's Altar, Yesopalitha

Cersei Vrotten was an impatient woman. Despite being more than a half century old - she was a drow of the House of Virhai, after all - she had never truly understood why everyone considered patience to be such a virtue. Action was demanded to get things done, and especially in the world of business, inaction was synonymous with languishing and death.

She'd just gotten off the phone with Viktor Karras, Jr., the President of the Chromatik Football Federation, regarding the establishment of an expansion team of Chromatika's Domestic Gridiron League (to be renamed once the expansion is complete) in Freedom's Altar. Yesopalitha had become such an integral part of Chromatik culture, history, and business in the recent years due to events that had been out of most people's control; it was up to her and other businesspeople like Mr. Viktor Karras, Jr. to take advantage of the opportunities.

Freedom's Altar had become such an important city to Chromatika. Yesopalithans were becoming more and more inundated with Chromatik culture, and the amount of visitors from each country going to the other were increasing year by year. Millions of Gold Coins had been spent by the Dark Council and the Dark Crusader to make sure that the permanent gate spell from Freedom's Altar to Chromia was remaining open; Yesopalithan magic-users were also highly instrumental in making sure that Chromatika had a sun in their pocket plane/dimension, and that life was growing there at all.

In response, Chromatika had spent millions of NMS on goods from Yespoalitha; the two countries were now linked at the hip, and the establishment of the Freedom's Altar Templars into the Chromatik Domestic Gridiron scene would cement that.

The CFF promised an expansion draft consisting of a lot of the Chromatik players that had just come out of the NSCF ranks as well as established players from teams currently playing in the Chromatik Domestic Gridiron system. Each team would be allowed to protect up to five players, and everyone else would be up for grabs should an expansion team want them. This would all take place in the next offseason, which gave Cersei just enough time for the next step on building a championship contender.

It was time to try to bring a legendary Vampire out of retirement with the hopes of having him be the Head Coach of the Freedom's Altar Templars.

It just had to be Sandvahar Grotten, right?

There has been a growing feeling of discontent among the gridiron supporters in the country with the national team that represents the Empire in the World Bowl. While it might be natural to assume that it is performance related, the Sabres have looked far from being true contenders for a deep run in this edition of the tournament when they have been forced to travel away from home, losing in two of those three occasions. There is also the very uninspired record that the Sabres have had in the past against teams ranked higher than them, not winning against a team ranked higher than themselves until two editions ago, as well as not advancing deep into the knockouts on any occasion. For Vanorian sports fans, any of those three performance related issues would be cause for concern and a bit of a feeling of being discontent with the team, yet it is not any of those reasons why there is that growing sentiment among the fans and supporters of the national team. To tackle this particular issue, you have to go back a few decades and prod at where the sport began in the Empire and where it was considered the biggest.

That of course is traveling away from the nation's capital and the west but staying within the breadbasket and instead taking the relatively short trip from Raynor City to Mar Sara. One of the most important cities not just in the southwestern portion of the region but in all of the nation, it is the heart of the agricultural center of the nation. It is where many of the old farm to market trails from all within the region would end up, where they either would then be shipped out to the rest of the nation or be processed into other foods or products before being distributed as well. It is the place where two human ideas tried to take root but only one of those managed to succeed and even then there was quite a bit of resistance to that. We are of course talking about the attempts across history of various foreign human lands sending priests to try and convert the elves from their own faith to that of their own, some weird combination of monotheistic with polytheistic attributes religion, which thanks to our interactions with Banija we now recognize as a form of their religion of Christianity. That endeavor ultimately failed, though there is a lasting monument to the attempt in the Donna Cathedral, the old Cathedral still built into the stadium of the same name in the city.

Though the attempts to convert the elves ultimately failed, the foreigners brought new foods, new forms of culture, and of course different sports to the Empire to add into the ones already practiced en masse in the nation. These would be baseball, basketball, and gridion among many others, though obviously the latter is the most relevant of those in this discussion. Mar Sara is the birthplace of the sport in the Empire, it is the place where the sport was first played, where it had its first teams and leagues created, and of course the biggest university in the city, Mar Sara Tech, would be the first to compete in the gridiron competition of the NSCF. The Mar Sara Tech Raiders would be the first Vanorian team in the competition and would be the first one to win a conference title as well as a NSCF championship, even if Raynor would come around and win their second before Tech would and is generally seen as the much more influential school and program these days. It is from this origin that the consternation begins, as the VSC decided to make the home stadium of the Raiders the national team stadium.

While this decision was originally seen as a good one, honoring the lasting legacy of the sport's origins being in Mar Sara, lately there has been a growing desire to move the national stadium from Mar Sara and to Raynor City. It would require the construction of a new stadium if it were to happen though as the home stadium of the Rockets is smaller than the stadium in Mar Sara and Raynor City United would not consent to additional use of The Battleground in their already very fixture rich schedule. That is the major downside and the largest sticking point to preventing the move from Mar Sara and to the capital city. The proponents of the move cite how the capital city does not have a single sport which has the national stadium in it and that with the tradition of success that Raynor University has had overpowers the nostalgia of the sport's origin in the nation. While the VSC has not welcomed any sort of formal debate or the idea of a proposal to be discussed, the discussion has been running rampant on online forums and chat rooms as well as among fans groups. There may be a compromise in the future or Raynor University might lean on its large and rich alumni base to either expand their current stadium or build a new one to be a new shared stadium as is the current status with the Lathalein Celestial Stadium in Mar Sara. For now the debate will rage in between games of the Sabres, who themselves are in a predicament and will need to play their way out of it, as a second loss looks to potentially keep the team from even making the knockout stages.

The home opener for Drawkland had pretty much everything a Grid Corps fan could ask for. The Drawkian offense, led by Logan Oakley, had no issues tearing through the Velstranian secondary and putting points on the board. The defense, led by the so-called "Gelia boys" fresh out of college, managed to keep Velstrania out of the end zone until a pair of fourth quarter garbage time touchdowns.

Speaking of garbage time touchdowns, the blowout margin allowed Jack Hoy to get some playing time. The immortal running back had since taken a back seat role in the Grid Corps running back room, allowing his mortal compatriots to take full advantage of their time in the sun. When the starters tired out or needed to preserve themselves for future games, Jack came back to shine (and usually embarrass the opposing defense) for a few drives. This time Jack broke off an impressive 40-yard run including a nasty stiff arm against Velstrania's last safety on the play to score a touchdown himself.

All in all, Jack was quite pleased with his performance. A score and a dozen or so carries to ice a game in front of an already-satisfied crowd? He'd prefer it if every Grid Corps game could end like that nowadays. When Jack packed up his stuff in the locker room after the game, he felt like nothing could ruin this good day. He'd probably hit a bar with Leo and perhaps some other Corps guys that evening, and get ready for another week of work. They even had another home game the next weekend, so a full week in Metropolon was on the cards.

Once he had his stuff packed, Jack looked around the locker room for Leo. It was rather sparse at this point. Some of the guys were off for a press conference, others had already left, and a few more were still showering. Jack didn't see Leo anywhere, which was odd because usually they'd at least talk for a moment about evening plans before leaving. It wasn't anything worth showing concern over, though.

Jack shrugged, grabbed his bag, and headed out through the underbelly of Metro Arena to the player's parking garage. Normally he liked it when the concrete and metal tunnels were less crowded, but when he got to the player's parking area he found the quiet to be odd. Usually there'd be a few cars idling, employees walking by, or players talking before they left. This time, it was almost silent besides the slight tapping of his designer sneakers against the concrete.

He was about to shrug the feeling off and taunt himself for being weirded out by an empty parking lot when he turned the corner to his row and nearly jumped out of his socks. Jack's car was there like usual, but the garage wasn't as empty as he thought. There was a person sitting on his hood (which was an entirely different issue that was equally worrying), and their head snapped over to Jack the moment he came into view.

It was Iarocav. That Iarocav.

"Uh ... hello?" Jack's voice echoed through the parking garage. He slowed his pace slightly, then reminded himself that he was immortal, and also this was the leader of Drawkland. What did he have to be afraid of? He still approached the car and the Drawkionel with a budding feeling of trepidation.

"Jack Hoy!" Iarocav's voice seemed to boom at twice the volume of Jack's greeting a moment earlier. If Jack wasn't used to getting run into by 300 pound men for a living, he might've flinched. "Just the man I wanted to see."

"Well, uh, I'd hope so. Considering you're sitting on my car." As if to prove his point, Jack clicked the unlock button on his key fob, causing the car to trill a couple beeps and flash its headlights.

"I'm the Drawkionel. I can sit wherever I want, legally." Iarocav's face was unreadable.

"Really?" Jack was legitimately thrown off by that.

"No, I'm just being fun." Iarocav's face cracked into a smile, but there was a weird sort of glint in his gaze that made it feel like he wasn't really smiling. He stood up and looked back at the front of the hood where he'd been sitting. "Sorry if I spoiled your detail job."

Jack examined Iarocav's pants, seeing he was wearing some black slacks, and then looked at the hood. If there were buttons on the back, they didn't scuff the paint or polish. He smiled back at Iarocav, though he still felt nervous for some reason. "You got away easy this time. Though, uh, I feel like I should ask why you're here in the first place. I imagine you aren't here to congratulate me for a garbage time touchdown?"

"No, no. Though I am always appreciative of your efforts for our national team!" Iarocav lightly pointed at Jack before putting his hands on his hips. "I come bearing a different sort of congratulations."

"Okay." Jack's mind raced. Did he do anything interesting recently? It's not like he'd accomplished anything major with Hoima in the GFLB yet. The World Bowl had just started. What was the Drawkionel possibly referring to? The realization hit Jack a moment too late.

"I am referring, of course, to your ... collaboration with a fellow immortal." Iarocav said, eyes narrowing. Jack felt like he was under a microscope.

"Oh. Right." Jack smiled awkwardly, which is about all he could manage. How in the blazes did Iarocav know about him and Sarah Arrowsword? Did Leo leak something? That wouldn't make sense. Either way, he forced himself to keep talking, which normally wasn't this difficult. "I'll admit this wasn't my finest hour. But I'm pretty optimistic we can make things work."

"I'm glad to hear that." Iarocav tilted his head slightly, still regarding Jack like he was examining a battle map. "I spoke with Sarah the other day and she didn't seem as optimistic."

Of course. Sarah must have told Iarocav it was him. Probably. And if that's the case, she definitely told Iarocav that he hadn't contacted her at all. It made sense that he was playing hardball. He was assuming Jack was about to be a deadbeat. On second thought, Jack couldn't exactly blame him for reaching that conclusion given that available evidence.

"Well, you know me. Always positive." Jack looked longingly at the driver's side door of his car. He could technically leave whenever he wanted. Somehow, that possibility seemed very remote at this moment. He decided to keep talking. The quicker the conversation was over, the quicker he could leave. "I guess I'm just a little unprepared for all this stuff. But I do genuinely want to make it work. I think it'd be fun to be a dad. My buddy Dustin, well, I guess you know him, I know he had a lot of fun raising his daughter. I'm not afraid of that responsibility, I'm just aware that I have things I'll have to get better at."

"Nobody is truly prepared for their first child." Iarocav nodded, and when he gave a slight smile it felt actually genuine. "And certainly not an immortal one. I'll touch on that in a moment though. I am quite curious as to why you'd be so unprepared for this venture, though. From my understanding, you did something with a very obvious consequence. I'm not sure why you'd be caught off guard by the result."

"Maybe I'm wrong on this," Jack started, confused as to why he had to be the one to say this, "but nothing is a 100% shot, right? Especially given that we're immortal-" In that moment, the realization hit Jack again. He may have learned a certain phrase of power that allowed immortals to increase the chances of conception. He must've used it some time with Sarah.

Iarocav simply raised a brow, as if challenging Jack to keep talking.

"Okay, so I might have said some sort of phrase or something that night." Jack grimaced, trying to think of how he could possibly explain this without looking like a complete moron. "I really don't remember, I was definitely blackout drunk. And I dunno, I guess Sarah might've repeated it. It was a few months ago, and like I said, the alc-"

"I'm well aware of why this happened." Iarocav interrupted. The smile from earlier had long since vanished. "I am more concerned with the how it was possible in the first place."

"I, um, I read it in an Accords pamphlet." Jack said as casually as possible, which is to say not very casual at all. "I guess I just remembered it at the wrong time."

"That would be an excellent excuse, if there was an Immortal Accords publication with any such information on it." Iarocav shook his head. "This is the entire reason why we keep powerful words like this a secret, unless it is needed."

"My bad." Jack mumbled. He didn't really know where to pivot, but he felt like ratting out the true source would land him in a world of hurt.

"I just want to know who taught you that phrase." Iarocav softened his voice, so much that Jack almost thought that he wasn't mad anymore. "You won't be in trouble."

"From you, maybe." Jack muttered. He sucked a breath through gritted teeth, then blew it out nervously. "It was at the Olympics. Not the Kayo ones, the ones in Electrum. It was just a random conversation about stuff. You know, locker room talk."

"Olympics." Iarocav repeated. It looked like he was turning something over in his mind. "One of the Elite Eleven?"

"Um ..." Jack hesitated. He still didn't want to reveal who actually told him, but apparently that hesitation was enough to tip off the Drawkionel.

"Ah. I see." Iarocav's voice dropped to a disappointed tone. It fittingly sounded like a frustrated father. "Yet another blunder by my son."

"Y-yeah." Jack nodded. No point in being evasive now. "Lerocav told me. But in his defense, he immediately realized his mistake and told me to forget it. I'm honestly not sure how it stuck in my head. I'm not even sure if I could say it right now if you asked me."

"The immortal mind is a lot stickier than what mortals are used to. You'll start to understand that as you exceed your mortal lifespan. I hope you learn how to use it more effectively. The Accords actually have a class on that, but ..." Iarocav shook his head to stay on track. "Speaking of the Accords, I believe you and Sarah Arrowsword will need to look at our offerings."

"Oh yeah, for sure. Definitely." Jack nodded quickly. He was hoping to reiterate how much he did truly want to be an effective parent.

"I'm being serious." Iarocav raised a brow. Apparently Jack's assurance wasn't very reassuring. "Being a parent is one thing, but raising an immortal child is that times infinity. You're aware of how the maze, the greater quest for immortality, really, is a test of many strengths. It's not just physical, but spiritual."

"Yeah." Jack was mostly along for the ride in the immortality quest. Nicole Warren and the rest did most of the research and thinking.

"The quest is like that on purpose. It's meant to weed out those who would be unworthy of the gift itself." Iarocav explained, feeling like explaining this concept wasn't entirely redundant when talking to Jack Hoy. "Obviously an immortal child, born of immortals, doesn't have to do that. Thus their development and safety are so much more important, because the destruction one misaligned immortal can create is unthinkable. This is why I do not publicize the words which allow an immortal child to be conceived. It is a responsibility that not every immortal can handle. Even I've made mistakes. You could argue the fact that I'm here having this conversation with you is an indirect result of my own parenting."

"Ah." Jack couldn't think of anything else to say. Forget escaping to his car, at this point he was considering remote starting it and running himself over on purpose.

"However!" Iarocav said, with a sudden chipper tone in his voice. "What's done is done. The child will arrive regardless of how prepared you and Sarah are. My job is to give you as much support as I can. The Immortal Accords aren't just a club for partying every few decades. We are a collective of power that few groups can fathom. There are many resources that I strongly recommend you and Sarah take advantage of."

"Of course. Uh, yes sir." Jack had been slowly clenching and unclenching his hands in worry. "Do you have, like, a pamphlet or something?"

"I'll send you something in the mail. You're in Metropolon for the rest of the tournament, correct?" Iarocav smiled. This one felt fully genuine.

"Whenever we're not on the road, yup." Jack still felt a pit in his stomach, but at least he didn't feel like he was about to get struck by lightning or something.

"Excellent. Just remember that we're all here to help." Iarocav winked. He turned to the car next to Jack's and put a hand in his pocket. The car lit up in response. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have somebody to reprimand."

"Okay." Jack groaned internally. On top of all this stress, now he had to worry about Lerocav coming to get revenge for giving away his mistake. Hopefully that wouldn't be the case. "Uh, thanks, sir."

"You can thank me by doing your job." Iarocav said without turning to look back at Jack. He got in his car, which levitated and caught onto the parking garage's magway a moment later. In a few seconds, the Drawkionel was gone.

Jack got into his own car without another word, then slumped over the dashboard. He needed to call Sarah. At this rate if he kept procrastinating, a Drawkionel would probably show up at his apartment and beat him up. Who knew fatherhood could be so complicated?
