It had been one of the most dominant solo performances Handrix had seen while serving as the manager of the Saterun national team. The only thing that was really on par was Caesar Ibañez's brace to win them the 92nd Cup of Harmony, not too long ago. Sülimein Kalemanu, once the starboy of Saterun football, had made an emphatic case that he was still in fact the starboy of Saterun football. HIs three goals, in the 12th, 31st, and 78th minute, had punctuated a match in which Handrix thought the Claws finally rose to what they were capable of. Sure, they weren't playing the most prestigious opponent, but it was a crucial match. Kalemanu would get all the praise afterwards, but the entire team had worked together to control the match from start to finish. He had been particularly impressed with the defense, who had gotten through the group stage only conceding one goal (which was still somehow not even the best?!?!) and looked prepared to hold the line in the knockouts. The offense had been a little slow during the first two games, but Kalemanu had more than doubled the totals goals for over the group stage and even the non-scoring members had been extremely important in getting him there.

Although it was a team game, Handrix also had to reflect on Sülimein's performance. His first goal, to open the match, had been a perfectly-placed curling shot from the corner of the box, which went just past the opposing goalkeeper's outstretched gloves. The second had been fairly routine, as he'd finished off a wonderful passing move by passing it into the bottom corner of the net. His third goal had been what the cameras had really focused on. After a quick one-two with Vidar Washington, he'd taken the ball straight through the opposition line, weaving his way past three opponents. He'd then hit a perfect trivela with his left foot to bend it down under the crossbar at the last second. Filil-Indos's keeper had been rooted to the spot. It was obvious that Sülimein was ready for a real spot in the national team starting lineup. He'd taken off slower than some had expected, but if he continued to perform at this level, he'd likely be starting come the end of the tournament. At only 20 years old, he still likely had at least a decade left in his international career, and Handrix wanted to use as much of that as possible.

In the dressing room a little later, the coaching staff was reviewing the knockout bracket with the squad. Matt Saez's instant reaction pretty much summed up the mood of the squad. "Pardon my Bnadtish, but what the actual fuck is our side?" Although Handrix wouldn't have used such harsh terms, he felt the same way. In the round of 32, they were clearly the favorites, coming up against unknown side Only Six Words. Did that describe their language? Their writing? Handrix didn't know, but as long as they were human it wouldn't even be close to the strangest side Saterun had faced. They'd once played a match against a team full of literal cats. And drawn. But that was long ago. Now, they were expected to make it to at least the Round of 16. Usually, the SFF demanded quarterfinals at minimum, but Handrix was sure that they'd understand. The Claws' quarterfinal opponents would most likely be HUElavia, and if they somehow made it past that test (they'd done it before) Chromatika, Aphrilia, Indusse, or Juvencus awaited. A truly horrifying prospect. But that was all in the future. Right now, they just had to focus on getting there.

Later that day, Handrix was sitting in his office, on the phone. He was talking with Juilie VandeLlen, the mother of one of the players on the team. In the last Cup of Harmony, in Zwangzug, Handrix and Juilie had grown quite close. Now, they tried to call as much as they could, but only when they were sure they wouldn't be interrupted. She had seen the game, of course, and was full of praise for Sülimein. Handrix told her about how difficult their playoff path was, but she was full of confidence, as ever. She even had a few suggestions for team they could face if they made it further into the tournament. For most of their conversations, he just listened as she talked, and he liked it that way. Handrix was a generally calm person, and he couldn't compete with Juilie's boundless energy. Eventually, however, they had to wrap up. It was late in Saterun, and Handrix did have some work to do post-match. He always tried to write down his immediate thoughts and feeling following a game, so as not to lose them. As he hung up, however, the door swung open.

"Hey gaffer, hope I wasn't interrupting anything. Who were you talking to?" It was Anders. As in Juilie's son Anders. Handrix had to quickly spit out a lie. Obviously, Anders didn't believe him. That on its own probably made Anders more suspicious, but the fact Handrix's phone audibly buzzed a few times in the next few seconds confirmed he was talking to someone important. They both stared at the phone, before Anders cleared his throat. "Anyway, I was wondering what our playoff strategy is going to look like. Not to boast too much, but I feel like we've all been at a similar level so far. I just wanted to see if you were thinking of playing one of us in a different position, you know, to get more of us out there." By us, Anders meant the three right-midfielders in the squad. Him, Crespo Antonsen, and Jack Le Mounde. Truth be told, Handrix had been considering that. Obviously Sülimein's performance today made it hard to justify not starting him, but if Oscar or Vidar needed a rest Handrix was pretty confident that he could use a wide midfielder as a temporary replacement. At the worst possible time, however, his phone rang again. It was almost certainly Juilie. Handrix didn't want to leave her ringing, but he also didn't want to talk in front of Anders.

Thankfully, by some miracle, he was saved. Dante Feilan, the assistant manager, arrived at that exact moment to whisk Anders away to a midfielder-only match review. Handrix quickly mumbled something about looking into it, before he motioned for Dante to close the door. As soo as he heard the latch, he picked up the phone. However, it was not, after all, Juilie. It was Timothy Caralet, the commissioner of the SFF. This was interesting. They almost never called him. It was always an email or a text. Warily, Handrix picked up the phone. After a little bit of small talk, he sensed Caralet wanted to get to something important. Handrix gave him a pause to transition. Finally, he heard it. "Listen, Handrix, you know I've been here a while. It's been great, really, but I'm almost 60. I'm gonna retire at the end of the cycle." That in itself was big news, but nothing could have prepared Handrix for what came next. "I've discussed it with the board, and we all want you to come on as the next commissioner, starting next cycle. I promise it's great pay, and it's been really rewarding while I've done it." However, there was a catch. "Of course, you'll be leaving your post as manager."

THE LAST DIPLOMAT
Chapter Twelve - Old Friends

By the second week Sebastian was beginning to feel human once again, he finally felt that not only the tired ache in his bones was gone but he was physically relaxing. Not the simply the act of not working, but he realised that for as long as he could remember now he had been physically tensing up every part of himself, finally his shoulders were where they should normally sit, his jaw didn’t have the dull ache from being held together, his brow no longer permanently furrowed. But old habits die hard and his first thought was that he was well enough to get back to work, thankfully for him at that moment the telephone rang.

His old mentor Jefferson Covington, the fellow who’d run the department before him, before the world was upended and the department actually became a real thing and not the butt of jokes. He’d called having heard on the grapevine that Sebastian was taking a well earned break, whether he’d heard more and was being kind or those who knew the truth had managed to keep the lip on things he didn’t know, and wondered if he wanted to come and visit him up on coast to where he’d retired. Covington promised sun, quiet and copious quantities of very good wine. Any protestations from him were quickly shut down, and the offer of an invite became an insistence that it would in fact be a great unkindness of him if he didn’t come to stay. Funny he thought to himself, though he never had to be an actual diplomat he certainly was rather good at it retired or not.

So that was that then, thoughts of returning to work put firmly to one side as he packed for the trip. Packing revealing again just how little his life had focused on anything outside of work, needing to go and buy vacation appropriate clothes as he didn’t think the suits would be appropriate or desirable in the heat and in the spirit of a vacation he even bought himself some light reading books. By the evening he found himself on the sleeper train down to the coast, having splurged to get yet another good night’s sleep having grown rather fond of them of the last week. Closing his eyes with a smile on his face, ready to wake up the day after and continue relaxing and catching up with a dear friend.

Interview with Mason Wilson: Part 1

Postby Natkr » Thu Jan 15, 2026 6:20 pm

Todd Woada: Mason, looking at your career so far, wearing the captain's band for your hometown club Shew Shore FC, and finally playing and representing your own Natkrian national team at the Independent Associations Championships, it's hard to imagine you playing anywhere else in Natkr. But your career actually started at your local lower-division club, Nos Poa FC. What was the whole soccer dream like for you as a kid?

Mason Wilson: To me, it was everything. Football was life. Growing up, actually living right next to the Nos Poa stadium, the team was my world. It was my identity. I joined their academy when I was eight, and honestly, I used to think growing up that I had a chance of playing for the club someday. For me, I wasn't just playing on some academy soccer team. I was playing with my best friends, local neighborhood friends, my family, and my future career.

Todd Woada: Then came the day when every single one at an academy fears and dreads. Tryout day. Some join, some may leave. You were released by Nos Poa FC that very day. Can you take us back to the moment it happened?

Mason Wilson: To be honest, it felt like my whole world was about to crumble. That my whole life had failed. I was sixteen at the time, which is a perfect time for most academy players to start progressing into the senior ranks. The new academy manager took me down to his office, and he told me he didn't see a road for me to even progress into the senior team. I almost broke down into tears right there. My local team. They just rejected me, stone-cold like that. Hearing that your "fan-to-player" story would be over before it even managed to begin, no matter what, it just hurts you.

Todd Woada: Rejection in teenage years, especially at sixteen, would cause many people to give up. Why didn't you just retire? What was your reaction when you finally left the Nos Poa academy fields for the final time of your life?

Mason Wilson: I'll be completely honest, I didn't even know anymore if I was even good enough to go pro. I spent like a week thinking it through, over and over again. But then I took a quick thought. I realized that I just wasn't able to throw away my cleats just yet. I had a brand new intensity coming on. I decided that if Nos Poa didn't want me, I would eventually make sure they would regret not picking me. It really hurt me.

ARE WE READY???
Today is the big test for the Marblelanians.

Today will be the day the Marblelanians will face the gigantic Edsmontik, right in the glorious Grand Manchbury Stadium.

Before nationstates, the Marblelanians were dominating world football in their own universe. Now, in nationstates, they are literally newbies, in the midst of the 'Goliaths' around em'.

But, there is still a glimmer of hope in this new world.

Before and throughout the competition, critics and interviewers have been throwing insults and were also mocking players and coach alike. But they have proved them wrong all the way by causing three major upsets. First by beating Great Exultia, then drawing a goalless with unbeatable Drawkland, and finally drawing again with Calgasia.

However, Edsmontik is better than all the previous teams they ever played. Plus they have experience. Can the Yellow Monkeys turn things around.

For now, fans still have hope, all excitedly bouncing in the streets of Manchbury. Millions of Marbleland fans are currently crowding into Manchbury Park, where the game will be shown live as well.

About 25 million Marblelanians have travelled to Sudilia, while 69 million more from The League.

Spirits are still high, banners and flags are proudly waved, pyros and firecrackers are lit beautifully. The ultras and loyal yellow supporters are taking over the town by storm, blocking lanes and chanting loud, singing their anthems proud. Football is in the air.

"Pride of The League" banner was waved throughout the streets.

But are the players ready to face another battle. Who will be going home tonight?

It all comes down here, in Grand Manchbury, will the Yellow Monkeys make another upset, or would they return empty handed. Will the Edsmon Eagles prove who's the king in the room, or will they tumble down?

Tonight, is the night of all nights both Marblelanians and Edsmontikans have been waiting for....

Interviews and Lineups will be posted later.

Interview 14
Interviewer: Let us welcome, Enoch Barack and Declan Law to the table.
[Applause]

Interviewer: So, how's your day goin'?

Law: Very well, thank you for inviting us. What do you want from us?

Interviewer: Just some opinions like usual. Anyway, how confident are you for the upcoming match?

Barack: Well, I think, you know, just, we just, do our best and let God do the rest.

Interviewer: Hmmm... Edsmontik is a difficult team to beat you know.

Barack: But God is greate-

Law: [whisper]Let's not try to get onto the religious side shall we?
Barack: [whisper]fine >:(

Law: Umm, I think, lets just follow the plan, work as a team, put your trust in each other. Trust is the most important, and also, yeah, just, f*ck the haters.

Interviewer: Haha. Umm, do you have any like extra tricks or any, you know, strategies, or tell us, what are your strategies for this match.

Law: Some rotation, I guess, you know, we just sub in those who are tired, we have plenty of quality, and, umm, talent in this squad if you didn't realise.

Barack: Yeah, and umm, most important, like what coach say, PRESSURE, just keep pressing, tiki-takas, short passing. You know, when we face giants, we will do chipping and short passing.

Interviewer: Well, that's some interesting strategies. Ok, so, I think you guys should go already, its getting late now.

arrowswords convene

Postby Drawkland » Thu Jan 15, 2026 8:49 pm

Sarah Arrowsword's phone buzzed for the umpteenth time that day. The news spread pretty quickly and tons of people were already trying to reach out for her. It was, after all, a very sudden thing. Really, even Sarah herself was unaware until a couple days before she informed her coach and, consequently, the world. The changes in herself were just starting to be noticeable. She could probably play, but the IAC was generally a time for the second line to get more reps in live play.

Anyway, Sarah was expecting to just turn off the ringer and let it roll to voicemail, but the name caught her eye. Andrew, her Cenian half-brother. She hadn't even known of his existence until she moved to Ceni and heard his last name in a Cenian national team roster announcement. It turns out the name was no coincidence: Andrew was the bastard child of Sarah's own father, who'd gone to school in Ceni and knocked up a local girl just in time to graduate and move back to Drawkland. Sarah met Andrew during her time in Whitehaven and the half-siblings developed a reasonable rapport.

Andrew tagging along on the immortality quest was another thing entirely. Nicole Warren intended that quest to be just for her, until Cam volunteered and dragged Sarah in by extension. Nicole had the misfortune of telling Sarah about some training plans while Sarah was out on the town in Ceni with Andrew and his boyfriend, which allowed news to spread until a party of ten mortals and one immortal eventually embarked on the trip. Thankfully neither Andrew nor his lover Liam lost their lives during the quest.

Now the half-siblings had a slightly weirder relationship due to the immortality they shared. Sarah still wasn't totally inclined to answer, but she decided it'd be more trouble later if she didn't get this out of the way. Right before the call would've gone to voicemail, Sarah opened her phone to answer it.

"Hello?" Sarah started in a flat tone.

"Sarah!" Andrew replied quickly. "What's this I hear about you missing the rest of the IAC? 'Maternity leave'?"

"Ah, yeah." Sarah sighed. "That's correct."

"So you're pregnant then? Seriously?"

"Yes, that's something girls can do. I know that concept might be foreign to you," Sarah snickered shortly.

"Cheap shot," Andrew sniffed. He paused, as if not sure how to approach the next question. "So, um, I didn't know you were seeing anyone? That seems like information siblings would share with one another."

"I'm not seeing anyone."

"Oh." Andrew wasn't sure how to approach that either. He resorted to sarcasm, hoping that would resonate with Sarah better. "Doesn't that make this whole situation sort of ... impossible?"

"Maybe we have different definitions of 'seeing someone,'" Sarah growled. "I don't have a boyfriend, if that's what you're asking. That's why I told my manager to be discreet on the injury report. I guess it slipped her mind."

"I see, I see." Andrew tapped his foot impatiently. "Well, is it somebody I know at least? Can you tell me that?"

"He is an acquaintance we share." Sarah made it clear she wasn't giving up the goods that easily.

"Okay, thank you." Andrew paused again. "So ... what are you gonna do?"

"Miss a tournament and half a domestic season, I guess." Sarah rolled her eyes, leaning back in her chair. "Not much else is certain right now."

"So you're going to, ah, see it through then?" Andrew tilted his head. "I know you're in Drawkland where it's not as easy but ... Ceni isn't that far. I'm sure I could find you a place if you really need-"

"Even if I would, I can't." Sarah gritted her teeth. "For better or worse, that's not physically an option. The child is apparently guaranteed to be immortal, which means he can't really be cut loose."

"Oh. Is it like that for the child of every immortal?" Andrew was just curious at this point. Their immortality didn't exactly come with a user manual.

"No." Sarah hesitated. She knew this would narrow down the father's identity, but she figured Andrew would figure it out eventually if he started poking into things. "It's a complicated sort of system. But a fully immortal child is always the outcome for a firstborn from ... two immortal parents."

"Two immortals?" Andrew echoed. That did make the picture abundantly clearer. He barely knew a dozen male immortals from Drawkland, and several of them were already accounted for, unless this was even more scandalous than he originally expected.

"Yes. The firstborn is always fully immortal as the parents are, and then the effect is watered down further with each additional child." Sarah didn't really know why she was explaining all this. Maybe she was hoping it would play into Andrew's natural curiosity and move talk away from the father.

"Does ... does the father know? Is he going to help at all?" So much for the conversational deflection, but at least Andrew's concern seemed genuine. It wasn't just pleasantries, but perhaps that was obvious given how he grew up.

"I'm waiting to see if he'll figure it out, since the news is all out there now. If not I'll make him face the music myself. He won't be able to run away like our dad did, though. For you, at least." She twisted her lips into a wicked smile. That was another cheap shot.

"Well, good. Good for the child." Andrew replied boldly, refusing to acknowledge the jab. "If you ever need help, I'm here. I'm sure the little one would love to spend time with Uncle Andrew!"

"We'll see about that." Sarah said. She still wasn't sure what her long-term plan was. Besides requesting a transfer back to Drawkland, she wasn't sure what she'd do. She couldn't exactly move in with the father even if she wanted to -- he was playing outside Drawkland for the foreseeable future. She had more than enough money for one person, even with a kid factored in. She could probably take the full twenty years off to raise the kid to adulthood and still come back to soccer afterwards. Probably. Maybe. There wasn't exactly precedent for that sort of thing, even with the few immortals who have previously played in Drawkland's professional sports leagues. Even if it was possible, Sarah didn't really want to quit playing for that long. She was already bothered by having to miss time for the pregnancy.

"Alright. Well. Thanks for chatting." Andrew said after a moment of silence. He could tell Sarah wasn't really interested in talking any more. He also realized in a moment of self-awareness that she'd probably been doing nothing but answering those same questions to dozens of people in the last couple days. "I have to run. Let's talk later though, alright?"

"Alright." Sarah replied shortly. Despite her tone, she wasn't necessarily opposed to that, though she'd rather talk about anything else next time. "Talk to ya later."

"Bye-bye."

Sarah slowly stood up and walked around the room. Maybe Andrew would be more of a help than she'd realized. After all, he knew exactly what it was like to grow up as the child of a single mother. Divine willing, this child's father would be more present than her father was to Andrew, but it never hurts to have more help for the touchier side of things. In any case, Sarah figured she'd rather keep playing. Of course anybody would expect her to quit soccer for a bit to raise the kid. Sarah, however, believed she could raise her child and keep playing. It's not like she was ever short on energy any more. How hard could it be to do both?

Mills: Let's be honest.

Pratt: Extremely nervous, Edsmontik is a good team.

Mills: But we have been doing a lot, like drawing with the Drawks and beating Grand Exultia.

Pratt: But this is different, Edsmontik, they are super good, despite having one loss during this season, they have a long history.

Interviewer: So, just some gifts before you go.

Mills: Oh, wow, this is nice.

Pratt: Thanks a lot, sir.

Interviewer: Nah, it's fine. Good luck for your match boys.

Mills: It is our pleasure.

Pratt: Thanks once again!

We who are gay, and wild, and free,
no folk as cunning, cunning as we
who flit like the joyous wind o'er the lea
meeting teams of eleven plus one referee

Who can stand on a grass-blade, so delicate deft?
but Swindle the pixie, who wings on our left
with speed and with sleight, though perhaps lacking heft
Takes the ball, leaves defender behind and bereft

Who the leaper, the lunger, the fearless and brave?
Who stands 'twixt the wordwork, who springs to the save?
guards the goal fiercely as a bear does his cave?
Bold Bellwether, none other, is everyone's fave

Who the leader and planner, the shrewd and the wise?
Fashions tactic and stratagem with all-seer's eyes?
Steadies the team through the lows and the highs?
'Tis Snowbrowth the clever, who we truly prize

Who can counter together, in jumbly gang
hold the fort and fight fierce without claw or fang
Can send the ball zooming with thunderous bang
Only we, fey footballers, from Elder Lands sprang

THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS AND FORMOSA GO DOWN BY THE HANDS OF THE EDSMONS

Monday, 6/6/2033
Written by Jon Vaskeilt

Just earlier today, Edsmontik finalized their win against The Philippine Islands and Formosa, ending the game with a 5-2 win. The game itself was pretty uneventful other than the goals, which were quick breakthroughs that followed defensive lapses.

The game began with a quick goal from the Edsmons. Ghreksbvy and Stuero swerved their way up the pitch after kickoff, sending fake passes and pretending to communicate their plans to throw their opponents off. Some of the Philippine-Formosans fell for the tricks, but some others didn't. In the end however, the Philippine-Formosans were new to the international stage, and they fell quickly. Stuero fired his shot from outside of the box, and made it right in.

Just five minutes later, in the 11th minute, the Edsmons ripped the ball out of the Philippine-Formosans' cleats yet again. The ball moved up the field, and soon enough, the Edsmons managed to score yet another goal. This time, it was Aespana, who picked up the ball from a cross by Ghreksbvy. Even though his heading skills weren't great, he was still able to head the ball right into the net.

The following goals came in shortly after, with one more from the Eagles and one from the Philippine-Formosans. Ghreksbvy set the scoreline to 3-0 in the 30th minute with a free-kick, which he handled very well. Even though he was positioned far from the net and at a pretty bad angle, he still managed to get the ball over the wall and right into the top corner of the net. The response to this was more pressure from the Phillippine-Formosans with Po-an, who managed to get a lucky run past the Edsmon defense in the 41st minute.

With the score at 3-1 for the second half, the Philippine-Formosans decided to step up their game. They went on the attack for quite some time, keeping the ball away from the Edsmons. However, der-Stouiben and the defense were luckily keeping up. Unfortunately, that wouldn't work forever, and Po-an got in another goal after a mistake in the box during a corner.

Fortunately the Eagles managed to regain their ground and quickly secure yet another goal to raise the lead back to two. That goal came in the form of a power shot from outside the box by Stuero in the 60th minute. He had managed to swerve around almost all of the defenders, and even though de la Cruz had managed to nearly stop him, he was still able to survive and score.

Edsmontik followed up to Stuero's goal with yet another goal, this time by Lajiflak Fruedenne, who came in for Aespana. The midfielder slipped past the wing and managed to get in a few passes with Rehcikt, before taking the ball and finishing it off in the net. Just like that, the score was 5-2 in the 87th minute. The score stayed the same until the game ended, leaving Edsmontik at the top of Group D and with only one opponent left.

TAKEN DOWN BY CRPOSTRAN: NOT ENOUGH EFFORT PUT IN

Friday, 6/10/2033
Written by Ketzer Vanstroggurt

Just today, Edsmontik disappoints after its strong winning streak in Group D. The team, which had made the bold decision to substitute off their strongest defenders in a game against Crpostran in Crpostran, unfortunately had to face the consequences of their actions. The Eagles lost 4-1 in the Crpostair Arena, leaving with the disappointment of Edsmon fans that had traveled to the Heart of Karma to see the game.

The game began with kickoff for the Crpostranians, who quickly wormed their way around the Edsmon midfield. These two teams were very familiar with each other, having clashed on multiple occasions in many different locations. Luckily, the Eagles knew how to counter, and managed to get the ball back quickly.

As the first half continued, there were glimpses of the true power lying behind each team. It was clear that neither was giving it their all, and they were trying to "ease in" to the big final battle. It would be smart to spend a lot of energy early game in this scenario, as the other would be too laid back to retaliate, but neither side really jumped at the idea.

The pace of the game shifted very, very quickly though, and the Edsmons were the first to initiate it. Rehcikt, Stuero, and Bervaign began their full attack with bursts of speed, weaving past some of the Sapphire Strikers and getting very, very close. The Crpostranians, who were slightly laid back, were forced to quickly refocus themselves and stop the Eagles.

The next strikes were barely seconds apart. The Sapphire Strikers carried the ball up with more powerful and intimidating postures. Volkov struck the ball multiple times, and almost got past der-Stoiuben. Unfortunately, the Edsmon keeper was only able to hold back the striker for so long, and conceded a goal to Volkov in the 14th minute. As more and more attacks came in from the opposing side, the Eagles ramped up the pressure, and managed to continue many of their own attacks.

In the 32nd minute however, they would no longer have to look for more chances. It began after Crpostran's attack, which had once again been stopped by der-Stoiuben. The Edsmon captain Stuero quickly claimed the ball from a pass by Kizani, taking it up. Stuero made a great run, sliding right past almost every Crpostranian force before sending the ball off to Bervaign, who with one powerful smash, fired the ball directly into the corner of the net. Just like that, it was 1-1, equal again.

But this 1-1 would be short lived after the halftime whistle. Instantly, two minutes after kickoff, the Edsmons lost the ball and conceded a goal to the cleats of Volkov yet again. It went by so quickly, that the fans even had trouble thinking as they watched the ball rip across the ground.

Even then, 2-1 wasn't too bad. The Eagles still had the ability to come back. In an instant, this became less true and more false. Why? It was because the Crpostranians, despite the fact that the Edsmons started the game up with the ball again, managed to carry it all the way to the other side and gain a corner. From this corner, Havel managed to pick it up after some header chaos and score a beautiful shot through the wall of Edsmons and Crpostranians.

With the scoreline now much less in favor of the Eagles, they knew they had to fight to reclaim their throne. But even then, it wasn't enough. No matter how many shots they took, now that the Sapphire Strikers had a foothold, they would not let go. Not a single shot from anybody, even Stuero, could get past Crpostranian keeper Brennov. It was beginning to look like a disaster.

It got worse in the 82nd minute when the Crpostranians finally scored yet again to shut down the Eagles for good. From the half way line, Neumann charged all the way upfield into the box and scored. He managed to evade all of the Edsmon defenders using only his footwork skills. The Eagles had gotten very, very close to catching him, but unfortunately, that wasn't where they needed to be to save themselves.

Just like that, the final whistle blew, leaving the Eagles questioning their quality of play against Crpostran and hoping for a good Round of 32 experience.

Kennet Roenfeldt kept pacing up and down the touchline, desperate to find any distraction to keep his nerves from taking over. He just now noticed this was a habit he picked up from Peter Strömberg, as the manager also paced with his hands behind his back, looking towards his men like he was a 19th century general. Roenfeldt felt helpless, almost like a caged animal. It bothered him that he wasn’t able to help his team out on the pitch, even though he was the only one to blame for his suspension from this game. He thought back to his actions last game with a tinge of embarrassment, that tackle was sloppy, and way too reckless. Worst of all, now Solgavden was without their best defender (no offense to Johan and Rikard) in one of their most pivotal games of the past few years.

The Solgavish had the unique opportunity to play their IAC group stage matches at home, and they entered the competition with a favorable draw, feeling that they were more than capable of winning their group outright. That’s what they did in the previous edition of this tournament, winning Group B after an unlikely 2-0 win against Crpostran, and finishing with a 3-0-1 record in the 4 matches they played. Although they went on to immediately get wrecked 5-2 by Saterun in the Round of 16, Roenfeldt still thought fondly of that tournament. The team never felt closer together, working like a well-oiled machine. Yet today, Roenfeldt could feel divides growing amongst the players even from the touchline, as Strömberg and Halvorsan’s outburst during the last game was still fresh in everyone’s mind. Although most were smart enough to take sides in a beef that’s evolved over literal decades, a select few still did anyway, such as Arentz siding with his teammate, and Kalb taking the side of his old coach. This puts both Kristoffersan and Ossler in an awkward position, as they both are friendly and work closely with Halvorsan, while Strömberg was their old manager at Rega Lysborg, and is currently one of the most influential voices in Solgavish football. Luckily, Roenfeldt didn’t feel that he had to take sides in their growing schism, as he was an equally large pain in the ass to both of them in the Kongensliga. Even though he’s safe from the conflict, he can tell it’s weighing on the minds of the players on the pitch, with them seeming somehow even more uncoordinated compared to their last game.

The first half has seen the team knock on Saperetia’s goal multiple times, only to be turned away either by good defensive play of their opponents, or the attack simply fizzling out before it could get started. There have been times where it seemed that Strömberg and Halvorsan would give conflicting orders to their men, with offensive and defensive coaches Erlandsan and Ravn working overtime to keep the team’s gameplan coherent. Luckily, the defense seemed to be holding up, as even Roenfeldt would admit that Stephan Kalb was doing an excellent job leading the backline. Someone who also was doing an excellent job was Kristoffersan, as he still seemed to deflect the ball with ease, making crucial saves to keep the game level. Roendfeldt could only chuckle to himself, as most of the time he would get shit for his defense underperforming compared to the high flying offense, yet today the opposite seemed true, as the offense couldn’t string more than two passes together, and the defense almost seemed as competent as Vennesberg’s ”Scarlett Wall” (almost, they’re not quite there yet). With the half winding down, both teams were still level at 0-0, and the Solgavish dominant crowd was getting restless. Roenfeldt felt pride with the fans in attendance, as the noise and chants in the stadium made it seem like a derby game, and they kept the pressure on the Saperetian players, yet he’s not sure that’ll be enough to break the deadlock.

As the duo headed towards concessions during halftime, they both felt a pit in their stomachs. After 45 minutes, both Saperetia and Solgavden were still tied, and with how limp the offense seemed so far, they weren’t sure they'd be able to break through the Saperetian defense at all. Ever since Solgavden’s run in the 86th Baptism of Fire, Tobias Stahre and his son Jakob has tried to see every National Team game that Mrs. Stahre would allow them to go see. They both were in attendance for Solgavden’s upset wins against both Vielfaltig and Sarzonia during World Cup 99 qualifiers, and De Rega Röda’s unlikely win against Farfadillis during World Cup 100 qualifiers. While Tobias is more than content with seeing his favorite players perform on the biggest stage while bonding with his son, Jakob has seemed to make football his passion. Which turned out to be fortunate, as the 15 year old has the makings of a talented player, and a few scouts of Kongensliga teams have reached out to him about joining their academies next year. While most of the family are excited to hopefully watch Jakob on the pitch some day, right now, Tobias is just glad to have had such an impact on his son.

Fortunately, Harald Kistner Memorial Stadium is just a few kilometers from their home, meaning they have been able to watch every group match thus far. Yet the product on the pitch has been a mixed bag to say the least. The 1-1 draw against Valentine Z was a good result against a highly ranked team, yet the 1-0 loss to The Golden Harp was inexcusable, especially since they were playing at home. Tobias and Jakob both witnessed the shouting match between Halvorsan and Strömberg during that match, and even they knew that didn't bode well for team chemistry. While those on the team kept their mouths shut about the whole idea, fans like Tobias were quick to form their own opinions. For example, as a De Vursen fan himself, Tobias was quick to take his side on most matters. And as a De Vursen fan, Tobias loved Peter Strömberg the National Team manager, but hated Peter Strömberg the Rega Lysborg player and manager, who was personally responsible for bringing him pain and suffering for years on end.

As the two were returning to their seats with enough stadium food to kill a horse, they saw both lineups warming up before the start of the second half. On the Solgavish bench, they saw Strömberg and Halvorsan having a friendly conversation, a stark contrast to the volatile encounter they had last game. The team seemed to feel relief that their manager and their captain patched things up, as they started to play with a new intensity, finally ramping up the pressure on the Saperetians. The crowd responded in kind, and soon Tobias and Jakob were joining in the coordinated chants of “MÖRDA! MÖRDA! MÖRDA!” that rained down on the field. After what seemed like years of waiting, both Tobias and Jakob noticed Halvorsan hugging the Saperetian defensive line, and a smile crept on both of their faces as they realized their opponents gave him too much space. The scene that soon unfolded wasn't a surprise to them, as Kalb sent his captain a volley that went over the heads of the opposing defenders. Halvorsan, a master of long-range shots, soon torpedoed the ball from outside the penalty box towards the goal. It looked like it would sail over the crossbar, until it curved down at the last possible moment, settling into the net. The crowd erupted into cheers at the goal as the entire team surrounded Halvorsan in celebration. With extra time feeling more like a formality, the game soon ended as a 1-0 victory for the Solgavish, but most in attendance felt as if they won 5-0, with fans singing songs and chants as they left. Soon, Tobias and Jakob learned of Valentine Z’s 2-0 victory over the Golden Harp, solidifying Solgavden's third place in Group L. Although certainly a disappointment, they took solace in the fact that Solgavden wasn't eliminated outright, although they were soon to face Group K winners Reçueçn. With a 2-1-0 record, Reçueçn makes Solgavden's chances of surviving to the Round of 16 highly unlikely, but with Kennet Roenfeldt back in the lineup, this team is ready to give it all they got.

HUElavia 3-0 Sernet
(Arruda 11', Milano 42' (P), Canales 79')
Spartan Veteran Stadium, Sadeg, Drawkland

Full Steam Ahead!

HUElavia dominate and take down Sernet to advance to the team's 18th consecutive Round-of-16!

After a perfect Group Stage in Group E with a full sweep, HUElavia came into the Round-of-32 looking to make it back to the Round-of-16 once again. With the 1st place finish, HUElavia was essentially guaranteed to be the Home Team throughout the knockouts, as long as they advanced. Their first stop was to Spartan Veteran Stadium in Sadeg, Drawkland, a country that HUElavia had played in before, both in IAC 15 and 16. Ahead of them was Sernet, who came out as 3rd Place in Group D after a major win against Philippine Islands and Formosa (the worst team in the tournament by result) that secured their spot to the knockouts. Despite the difference in skill and strength, Coach Casillas brought out the A-Team, wanting to secure their spot into the next round.

HUElavia came out on the attack, wanting to get goals in quick to set the tone and play more comfortably with a lead. They did not need to wait so long, when in the 11th minute, a pass from Schmidt would get past Tworpowski to get to Arruda, who ran unopposed against Pasarowski, getting around the Sernetian goalie to roll the ball into the goal, making it 1-0. Arruda did The Cross and did a dance in the corner flag with his friends while the traveling HUElavians were cheering and applauding for the cheeky goal. Sernet would attack, especially with some shots from Oluwawa and Solsting, but the backline would make blocks and there were very few saves and blocks having to be made by Belluci from how good the defense was playing. In the 42nd minute, a corner was sent in by Gavicaechebarria would float into the box, where Zoliba knocked down Arruda, where the referee blew the whistle for a Penalty Kick. Milano stepped up and sent Pasarowski the wrong way as the ball smashed into the goal, making it 2-0. Milano did The Cross and hugged his teammates while the HUElavians cheered with passion for the goal. At the half, it was a comfortable 2-0 lead, which HUElavia was feeling very content with the match.

In the second half, Sernet began to attack more and more, with attacks coming from Stork and Jatrowski coming in now. Still, the HUElavian defense would soak up the attacks and snuff it out quick, keeping composure despite the desperation. HUElavia would take some shots here and there, but really were looking to waste the time in the match. In the 79th minute, a pass from Sartori (in for Schmidt) would reach to Canales (in for Serra), who would get past Tworpowski to give a curving shot past the reach of Pasarowski into the top corner of the goal, making it 3-0. Canales was hugged and patted by her teammates as the youngster had a smile on her face, while Sernet was dejected, now with the game out of reach, and the HUElavian crowd applauding and cheering for the goal. Not long after and with some additional time, HUElavia won the match and advanced to the Round-of-16.

In the other match that the team had to look at, Saterun eliminated Only Six Words 1-0 to be set as the next opponent for Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos. Coach Casillas was quoted saying "The team played perfect today, they went out there and played to their strengths and the showed why we're one of the favorites to win the IAC. Couldn't have asked for a better performance, our attack was on point, the midfield had control during the match and the defense stood tall and strong. We got a big game coming up next and we're looking forward to it and hope to return back to the Quarter-Finals." The next match against Saterun will be Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium in New Hind City, Indusse, the 2nd largest venue in the tournament and one that many HUElavians are looking forward to return to since a World Cup qualifiers against Indusse years before. It is a tough match, and the winner takes on the winner of the brutal match up between Chromatika and Aphrilla in the Quarter-Finals. It may be tough, but to be the best, one's gotta beat the best. Here's to what can be a historic advance once more.

Aphrilia 2 – 0 Juvencus
Forrestal a. 45+2'
McKernell a. 73'

THIS MATCH
APH STARTERS v Juvencus: Karnwell - Saunders, O'Truffet, Haze, Gillingham - McKernell, M. Aston, Rhine-Faust, Elliot - Lacey, Forrestal

NEXT MATCH
APH STARTERS v Chromatika: Karnwell - Knacke, Paxton, Haze, Roberts - N. Aston, Marshall, Rhine-Faust, Morgan-Keynes - Meyer-Bertrand, Forrestal

When Leonardo Bianchi saw the knockout brackets, he started feeling slightly light-headed.

Of course, how could he not. Looking at the current and upcoming matches, you realize just how strong this half of the bracket was. Not only that, four World Cup caliber nations in Chromatika, Indusse, Juvencus, and Aphrilia would be competing for one quarterfinals spot. In fact, seven out of the top ten IAC-ranked participants were on one side of the bracket. Perhaps you could say that it was quite, one-sided, but the "weaker" half makes up for it by giving you genuine uncertainty on who will make it through in every game. Despite the fact that Aphrilia was coming into these knockout rounds as defending champions, still, the quality of every potential opponent Aphrilia had to face worried him. Especially considering how early this team would have to face those said opponents. But in the end, perhaps he shouldn't have worried too much.

The match against Juvencus was, well, it was definitely a match that was for sure. For starters, it was a Sonnel v Sonnel match-up, the second one Aphrilia would have to play. And because of that, there would be a lot of buzz about this match. The first having been the finals of IAC 24 against Drawkland, of course. But when Bianchi dived into The Anchors' historical records, it was this moment he realized that Aphrilia was facing Juvencus for their second time ever. Back in the 21st edition of the IAC, The Anchors and La Squadra faced off once before, a nail-biting 3-2 loss for the former. This was a match that, Bianchi felt with certainty, that the team wanted to win. It was essentially unsettled business, and this game would be the way for Aphrilia to get one back at Juvencus. And so he did what he always did best in preparation for the game.

And it all ended up playing out exactly how he wanted it to go, a simple 2-0 victory.

Due to the nature of the match being against a fellow Sonnelian nation, along with this being the knockouts and the fact Aphrilia were here to try and defend their title, Juvencus played their strongest line-up possible. Though in the end, despite that, The Anchors were able to triumph over La Squadra. As Bianchi sat in his room, remembering details about the game, he hears the door open. Joseph Alan had bought some food, apparently because he was hungry despite the entire team having dinner together. Though to be fair, the portions weren't all too big, just enough for the players to be well fed and maintain their nutritional intake. "Got some for the two of us." Alan commented, and Bianchi responded with a nod. Apparently, the assistant manager had bought some noodles. "From a friend's personal recommendation." Alan explained.

Quickly diving in for a taste, Bianchi nodded. "Whoever this friend of yours is, their taste is great." He commented. Speaking of comments, when Aphrilia went up against Juvencus 1-0 right before half-time with Ines Forrestal following her usual antics of going wide before cutting inside, he had noted that despite doing the same thing every time (With usual deviations such as maybe going for near-post here and there), the Foxian had always delivered when needed. "Known them since high school, food connoisseur they are." Alan responded, eating his own noodles as well. "Our next opposition is Chromatika, and after that, potentially hosts HUElavia or Saterun. This team, I believe they have what it takes, but we need to make sure that they know that." Bianchi stated, continuing to eat the noodles the assistant manager bought. Vegetables and mushrooms were also in the boxes that this noodle dish came along with, and they definitely added a lot of flavor. "Maybe we could improve certain areas." Alan thought out loud, before continuing to eat.

When it came to flavor, Ardan McKernell surely provided a lot of it. Tricky technical players tend to do so, even more so when they play in a naturally defensive position. How he got on the scoreboard, well, one corner kick led to a scuffle for the ball, and next thing you know, the ball is outside the box and the closest player to take back control is one certain defensive midfielder whose more up the field than usual because the team was originally on a counterattack. One thing leads to another, and McKernell shoots from outside the box to make it 2-0. "Speaking of improving, I was thinking of improving the team's training regiment more." Bianchi stated after finishing up his noodles. "I'll inform Brandway and Ingrid then." Alan responded, just finishing up too. Bianchi knew that this team was good, the way he coached this team and managed it were proof of it enough. But there's always that lingering desire for better, to be the absolute best they can be. And that, is his internal resolution.

He didn't just want Aphrilia to be one of the best, he wanted Aphrilia to be the very best.
"...I'll never trust the same, I'll see friendship as just another game...! Full of winners and losers, selfish abusers... You failed to fly but somehow I’m to blame...!?"

Edsmontik breaks Marblelanians hearts after a devastating 6-0 loss.

Yesterday, was a bad day, for the Marblelanians, as they suffered a 6-0 loss against giants, Edsmontik.

Since their win against Grand Exultia, Marblelanians have been very hopeful, since they have literal newbies.

Critics before and during the competition have mocked that Marbleland would finish dead last in their group, especially with the likes of Drawksland, Grand Exultia and Calgasia. Yet, they prove them wrong, even making it out alive.

And just like that, they entered the Round of 32, suddenly, there was revival, there was hope, there was life. Many writers and critics praised the team for their excellent performances. Some even predicted that Marbleland will win them 1-0.

But, was it all just, overconfidence?

That night, was the toughest battle for the Yellow Monkeys, and let's say, they barely made it our of the stadium, alive...

Before the match, the ultras were hyped, screaming to their loudest, as if it was a cup final.

Then came the match, the players walked out, while the crowds whistle and chant. The referee blows the whistle, and begins the 90 minutes to decide the fate of both nations.

At the sixth minute, the Marblelanian midfielder, Ethan Billings made a silly mistake, accidentally passing to the Edsmontik's Maktholm Ghreksbvy, Ghreksbhy ran down the wing, passed the ball to Stuero, Stuero gives it to Bervaign, and GOALLLLLL!!!!!!! To the back of the net it goes! The fans went wild, 1-0 in less than 10 minutes!!

Just another about 10 minutes, a counter-attack was set up, Marvic Svaardaen chips the ball over all the Marblelanian defenders, Marvic Svaardaen gets it, and delivers a beautiful goal! 2-0 in just 17 minutes!!!

Marbleleland suffers yet another blow with a third free-kick goal, a stunning delivery by Centre-Back, Benzor Norseden. It was so good, that the fans were chanting "R9, R9; Norseden are you R9 in disguise?"

At the 42nd minute, right before half time, the Eagles whip Marbleland again, with yet another counter attack. The goal was set up beautifully. Right after goalkeeper, Elterhad der-Stoiuben caught the ball, he gave a powerful kick and a brilliant assist, landing the ball in front of attacker and captain, Maartin Stuero. He dribbled the ball with ease, strikes it in! and that is the fourth goal!

Half time, some of the Marblelanians have left the stadium, hopes were dying, the players were furious, no matter how hard they tried, the system doesn't seem to work, the chipping, the pressure, the fast passing has left them with many careless mistakes.

4-0 was the score on the board as the exhausted players leave into the tunnel. So the coach decided to go back to their usual long passing and chipping strategy.

After a 15 minutes of refreshing and revising, the players regather once more for the 2nd half, the final 45 minutes that would decide their final destiny.

With a whistle, the ball was kicked back and forth once again, constant bouncing into each team's halves.

The Yellow Monkeys seems more energized, making several goalscoring opportunities, and Ryan Goldbridge is back making a few decent saves. Finally, the machine is up and running again, or maybe not...

The 71st minute was the minute the Eagles re-destroyed the dreams of the Marblelanians, with another wonderful volley by none other than attacker Marvic Svaardaen.

Coach Joe has enough. He knows he needs a change, and it is now or never. He quickly substitute the tired players and exchange for fresher and younger ones.

Unfortunately, it seems that no amount of changes will stop Edsmon Eagles's path, the mighty and proud. As midfielder, Darion Ystermakt launches a powerful strike, the ball went into the hands of unlucky Raymond Mustard, always Mustard, what an unlucky lad.

The referee's decision was clear, a straight-up brutal PENALTY!!! The Eagle's fans roared like thunder. It would be the goal to end it all.

Captain Maartin Stuero stepped up, places the ball inhales and takes a few steps back. In front of him is the greatest goalkeeper in Marblelanian history, Ryan Goldbridge. Both having major experiences in various major competition. It all comes down to this very moment, either man will be the iconic hero of the night.

"It was like a mind game" Stuero said, but he still has to make the gamble. Stuero tiptoes, flicks the ball, it goes to the right. Goldbridge dives right too, tries his best to reach the ball, but it slips through, and into the net it goes!!!

The fans not able to control their emotion, stormed the pitch, hugging and lifting the hat-trick hero in the air, while the Marblelanians stared down, painfully, depressingly, the remaining Yellow fans in the stadium were heartbroken.

And just like this in the 89th minute, Stuero completes his wonderful hat-trick and completely destroyed Marbleland. The referee blows the whistle, and the fans jumped for joy, Edsmontik have qualified for the Round of 16! It was a beautiful moment for the country, and the worse defeat in Marbleland's football history since Nationstates yet.

What a night! As Edsmontik fans celebrated on the streets of Manchbury with firecrackers and pyros, the Marblelanians packed their bags and left the airport with utter silence and dissapointment, heading to Curumba, HUElavia, to support their neighbours, Nieuweland away.

But the story is not over for Edsmontik yet, for they have yet another obstacle to come, The Elder Lands, a strong competitor who beat Tanirinthia in Chromia. The question is, Can they do it once more?

Interview 16 (Most likely the last interview from me for this tournament)

Interviewer: We had a insane game as the Edsmon Eagles thrashed the Marbles 6-0. Now, let us welcome Marbleland's star midfielder, Enoch Barack.

Barack: Uhh, hi, good to be ba-

Interviewer: And his coach, Joey Mulholland.

Mulholland: I don't think this is a good t-

Interviewer: So, let's cut to the chase, The Yellow Monkeys verses and Edsmon Eagles, they came, they saw, they conquered, and also one more thing, DESTROYYYYYYYyyyy..... But now, let's hear from the Marblelanian point of view, so Enoch, tell me about the game, from your perspective.

Barack: They just came onto the pitch, somehow, we just don't feel energetic, and they were unrelenting, powerful, like an unstoppable force.

Interviewer: Uhhh, ok, so what happens now, Mr. Mulholland, since you guys are knocked out?

Mulholland: Go home and resume with our league games, I guess?

Interviewer: So, that's all the time we have today, folks. We'll catch up with the Edsmontik team later, pals.

"Look, I think coach LeBouffe is great. But his greatest quality is that he knows how to step back and keep his own ego out of the way when someone else has better ideas."

"And you're saying you have better ideas."

"Well..." Laurent Lapix shrugged, then puffed out his cheeks as he raised his eyebrows and gave a meaningful side-eye. The gesture is perhaps difficult to imagine if one has spent little time with francophones. To his teammate Théophile Thériault, however, the unspoken meaning was clear: I'm not going to say it out loud, but you're not stupid, you can draw your own conclusions.

Laurent and Théophile were having an earnest conversation over breakfast in Crpostown. The team had gotten here from Curumba a few days ago, and tonight was the big event; the first game of the knock-out rounds, against Solgavden. The two midfielders had gotten up early to grab coffee and something to eat that wasn't hotel food, before they had to be back at 8:30 for the team's last practice before the match. There would be a final tactical briefing in the afternoon, as was tradition, but Laurent was telling Théophile that he expected to meet with LeBouffe before that and essentially tell him what to say.

"It happens every match," he said. "I don't think it's really a secret. Up until last year he'd meet with Gerauld, but they always invited me, too. Now that Gerauld's gone and I'm captain, it's just the two of us."

"What do you talk about? I always assumed it was just the manager and the captain making sure they were on the same page before they brought in the whole team for a locker room talk."

"I mean yeah, we make sure we're on the same page. But I choose the page. Essentially he shows me the relevant footage—the same videos he shows you guys later in the afternoon—and it's up to me to spot the opponents' weaknesses and tell him what to say."

"Your tone is complaining but it kind of sounds like you're bragging," said Théophile.

"Well sure, it's nice for my ego, but it's not in my job description," said Laurent. "At Standard Lily I don't have to tell Moteudi what to do—because he's a good coach who knows his shit. Honestly, if LeBouffe isn't doing the managing, I'm not sure why he's... well, why he's manager."

"Is it really that bad?" Théophile was incredulous. "He always sounds intelligent to me. And the team loves him."

Laurent raised his eyebrows again and tilted his head to the side with another knowing look. "Yes, it's that bad. During international breaks when he knows I'm around the team, he calls me in the evenings almost every day. I've never heard him offer a piece of advice that wasn't something I'd pointed out to him first."

"Wait, literally?"

"Yeah. You know last game, when Rébecca got hurt?"

"Uh-huh." Théophile shook his head sympathetically.

"Did you see how he was talking to her right before the game?" Laurent asked. Théophile nodded. "Moesha told me after the game that he was warning Rébecca to take it easy—I guess Rébecca complained about it to her, because she obviously didn't listen to him. But I know for a fact he only pulled her aside because I suggested it to him earlier that morning, after seeing the weird mood Rébecca had been in since the start of the IAC."

"Geez. What is up with Rébecca, anyway?"

"How should I know, man," said Laurent, through a mouthful of scrambled egg. "I'm the one player on the team who doesn't play in the country, and now I have to keep track of all my teammates' personal lives from abroad? This is what I'm saying, LeBouffe needs to step up. This is unsustainable."

"Wow. You're right. I'm sorry."

"No, you're all good." Laurent wiped his mouth with a napkin. "For what it's worth, Moesha said she thinks it's because Rébecca signed a new contract in Genève and now she's torn up about moving away from her dad for the first time. Not to sound heartless. I mean, she's just a kid. It's normal."

"Damn, you are good," said Théophile. "I didn't even know about her new contract."

"Yeah well, I have to keep my ear to the ground, if I'm gonna do both LeBouffe's job and mine. Moesha and Héloïse are my informants. They're as thick as thieves and they love to gossip. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff they find out. Better than professional spies."

"So that's you're excuse for hanging out with the girls?" Théophile grinned at Laurent.

"Hey, watch what you're implying," shot back the other midfielder. "They've got dirt on you, too."

Théophile turned bright red. "Actually, come to think of it, are you sure they're reliable? Maybe half the stories they tell you are just made up."

"Yeah, nice try, buddy," laughed Laurent. "C'mon, finish up, we've got to get back to the hotel."

Practice was pretty much the same as it usually was the day of a big game. Nothing too grueling, just some warm-up exercises and drills to make the players have to think a little bit. After lunch, following the typical routine, Coach LeBouffe gave the pre-match tactical briefing. Théophile paid keen attention. LeBouffe would show the team footage, both of themselves and of the Solgavden squad, and would pause to highlight different strengths or weaknesses.

Each time the manager paused the tape, Théophile would glance at Laurent. Each time, Laurent would glance back at him, as if to say "yes, I pointed this out to him too." Théophile began to look at Laurent more than LeBouffe. Laurent would subtly point to the screen every time, just before LeBouffe paused the footage. It was almost as if he was giving cues. LeBouffe wasn't watching Laurent—he had memorized everything the midfielder had told him over lunch. The cues were just for Théophile's benefit, to prove that Laurent was indeed the brains of the operation.

With the briefing done, the team loaded into the bus to head to the stadium for the match. Théophile sidled up next to Laurent as they crossed the parking lot. "Okay, that was crazy," he said. "Really every thought in his head he gets from you? I didn't believe it until I saw it myself." Laurent just shrugged. "How does it work during the match?" Théophile asked.

"Oh, he's got the whole playbook memorized," said Laurent. "He has catalogued every piece of tactical advice he's ever heard in his brain, and he can regurgitate them from the side of the pitch when necessary. It's just when faced with a new situation that he has no critical thinking skills of his own. You'll see—if ever anything unexpected happens, he won't know what to call until he hears me yelling from the midfield."

"I thought there had been a few times he'd been a bit slow to react before," said Théophile. "I didn't realize that's what was happening."

"Just watch during the game," said Laurent.

The match kicked off, but things seemed to be pretty normal. There weren't any moments for LeBouffe to display a manager's tactical genius—or lack thereof. When Soren Danielsan put in a goal for Solgavden early in the second half, LeBouffe's response followed what any other manager might do. He made a couple substitutions to keep the team's energy up, and called for the team to go on the attack.

It was Laurent's tactical vision from the mid-field that saved the day, as usual. As time slipped by, things grew more desperate for Reçueçn, but with just over ten minutes left, the captain found the perfect angle. With some skillful positioning and a well-timed fake-out, he caught the Solgavden defenders unaware and passed the ball to Emila Streuli, who in turn put in a cross to Ravenna Cocci for the goal.

The goal kept Reçueçn alive, but it wasn't enough. The game went into overtime, and both sides now turned up the pressure, throwing everything they could into the game, trying to score one last deciding goal in the last half hour. But neither side could make it happen.

Ultimately, it came down to penalties. Théophile watched as Laurent and LeBouffe conferred in hushed tones. Finally, here was a situation that LeBouffe hadn't expected. Sure enough, he immediately turned to his team captain for guidance. Laurent stepped away as LeBouffe announced who would be taking the kicks.

"Ravenna first, then Héloïse, then Laurent, Théophile, and Lauretta," LeBouffe explained. As he talked, Théophile made his way to Laurent's side again.

"Wow, I don't know how you do it," he said. "It must be exhausting to have to play and coach. You should tell the federation. I know they kind of made a mess of the hiring process last time, but surely they can do better."

"Théophile, stop," hissed Laurent. "You're just distracting me right now. I'm trying to win this game."

Solgavden kicked first. They sent up Aki Hagen. Hagen was perfect. Moesha could do little as the ball flew past. Fortunately, Ravenna answered with a goal of her own. Then Sig Halvorsan, shockingly, missed one, and somehow, so did Heloise. Hannes Ossler scored, and then it was Laurent's turn to answer. He took only a very small run-up, as if he would go for a Panenka, but then hammered the ball into the top corner to even the score.

Solgavden's turn. Soren Danielsan was up next. Moesha, Reçueçn's goalie, finally got her hands on the ball with her first save. It was exactly the setup Théophile needed for a fast, low shot, just past Kristoffersan's outstretched fingers, to give Reçueçn a 3-2 lead. Tennefjord had a chance to equalize, but with another powerful save from Moesha Ziswiler, Reçueçn was through to the round of sixteen.

Théophile tried to talk to Laurent again on the way back into the locker room.

"Just drop it, Théophile," said Laurent. "I know I can complain a lot, but at the end of the day, I'm here to win. If I have to do two jobs to get that, I'll do that. I'll do whatever it takes."

Théophile gave a nod to say he understood, and went to unlace his cleats.

Independent Associations Championship 25 - Round of 32
Saperetia 0–1 Choppyhausen
Manchbury, Sudilia

One Goal is Enough
Choppyhausen defeat Saperetia and advance to Round of 16

The Choppyhausenian national team has secured a place in the Round of 16 after a 1-0 victory against Saperetia. The only goal of the evening was scored in the second minute by Iduna. The Broadcasting Service Choppyhausen has interviewed national head coach Harmon Merrit.

Broadcasting Service Choppyhausen: Mr. Merrit, how do you feel after this 1-0 win against Saperetia?

Harmon Merrit: Well, good, of course. We've made it to the round of 16, which is the best Choppyhausen has ever done in the IAC. Even though not everything was perfect in today's game, a lot of things went exactly as they should have, and in the end we scored more goals than our opponents, which is what counts.

BSC: In the four games of the tournament so far, the team in teal has scored three goals. Is that too few?

Merrit: Well, we've advanced so far, so it was actually enough. But of course, our offense is something we need to continue working on. It must also be said, however, that we have already encountered some very defensive teams in the course of the tournament, Reçueçn for example, and today Saperetia as well. They spent a lot of time in their own penalty area.

BSC: Wolf Hausmann [former striker for Victoria Choppingen] described your tactics last weekend as “results-oriented soccer.” What do you say to that?

Merrit: Well, to be honest, I find that term a bit nonsensical. Soccer is a results-oriented sport—in the end, all that matters is who has scored the most goals. And the underlying implication that we play less strongly after taking the lead, that we “secure the result,” is nonsense. I think we demonstrated that well enough today.

BSC: Sel Appa is now the next opponent on the schedule. Is the team prepared for such an experienced opponent?

Merrit: Well, I think so. Sel Appa has certainly had a strong tournament so far, finishing ahead of Chromatika and Abanhfleft in the group stage. But experience isn't everything, as every viewer saw when Nieuweland played Valentine Z. We've prepared for Sel Appa and I think the team is definitely ready to win again.

BSC: Thank you for the interview and good luck in Lysborg.

Postby Saterun » Mon Jan 19, 2026 12:55 pm

It had been a much closer match than Handrix had expected, but then again, this also wasn't the Claws at full strength. Knowing that the rest of the tournament would get exponentially harder as they progressed, Handrix had rested some of his key players for this game. In the end, it had been Adrian Schlimme who had put them through, scoring the 71st minute with a wonderful curled shot from inside the box. Saterun had clearly run the game, with 8 shots to their opponenent's 2, but had failed to convert most of them. That type of clinical finishing was something Handrix knew he would have to work on for the next round. Handrix felt that the scoreline undermined the performance overall, but he was just happy to come away with a win. As the players walked off, he made sure to congratulate them on a match hard won and get them ready for their next test.

That next test, of course, would be HUElavia. Despite being one of the main facilitators of the multiversal edition of this IAC, HUElavia still wouldn't be playing a knockout match at home through the Round of 16. Both teams would head to Indusse, and battle it out in the Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium. The main challenge for both sides would be to break down the other's defense. Saterun had only conceded one goal so far in the tournament, and HUElavia still had yet to concede. Unfortunately for Handrix, his opposition possessed the more prolific offense, having scored 9 goals to Saterun's 6. Either way, many pundits had predicted a low-scoring affair, although this tournament seemed to have a penchant for throwing up unexpectedly high scores. They would find out in two days time, and first priority for Handrix was getting through the long flight to Indusse.

As they began to descend into New Hind City, Handrix finalized his game plan for the match. They use their lineup from the game against Filis-Indos, as it had been their best performance so far and had a good balance of experience and youth. Although Saterun were the slight underdogs in this matchup, Handrix still wanted to somewhat save energy in case they pulled off the upset. With the extra knockout game this year, the team that won would be the one that was able to run for the longest. Give Saterun abhorrent possible path to the final, it seemed unlikely that they'd make it all the way, but Handrix still wanted the Claws to put out a good fight. In this upcoming match, he'd seek to utilize the wings as much as possible, and try to drive the ball into the center once they reached the box. Passing would be key, and he also wanted them to be more physical than they'd been so far. He'd seen some players loose ariel duels they should have won, and that could make all the difference tomorrow.

As they exited the airport, Handrix officially set foot in Indusse for the first time. It was certainly far away from Saterun, but that was one of Handrix's favorite parts of international management. This job had taken him to so many different places. As their bus rode towards the city, Handrix started to think more about the commissioner job he'd been offered. He'd still get to travel, of course, but not nearly as often. As commissioner, he'd have a much bigger hand in nation-wide development and player production, but he knew he'd miss getting to know players on a personal basis. It was a lot to think about, and not something he really had time for until after the tournament ended for the Claws. Right now, he had to dedicate everything to trying to get past the round of 16. It was a daunting task, especially given their opponents, but Saterun had pulled off the occasional upset before. In fact, in IAC 19, they had beaten HUElavia 4-1 in the Round of 16, in what had been one of the upsets of all time in the IAC. If the 16th seeded Claws could do it then, Handrix's boys could maybe do it now.

MARBLES SHATTERED: EDSMONTIK ENTERS THE FINAL SIXTEEN

Monday, 6/13/2033
Written by Kataroena Freicheijn

In Grand Manchbury, Sudilia, the Edsmon Eagles did not disappoint. They didn't just find one or two goals against the United Marble Tribes, they found six. Six goals that now marked a new record in for goals scored in the IAC for the Eagles. The only thing beating this scoreline was their 11-2 destruction of Qasden in the last World Cup Qualifiers.

The match began with a quick advance from the Eagles. Players like Stuero swerved around midfielders and defenders, with other Edsmon forwards following closely behind. The stadium fueled the attacks even more, and soon enough, the first chance at goal occurred. Out of nowhere, just as the Marblelanians had reclaimed possession, Stuero came in, deflecting a lob from Mustard and carrying the ball with a punt from his chest forward into the box. With a strong kick to fire a shot, fans watched with increasing suspense as the ball soared higher and higher. But it went too high and slammed into the crossbar, eventually falling into the hands of Goldbridge.

The second Edsmon chance would not be too far away. Just two minutes later in the 6th minute, Ethan Billings, a midfielder for the Marblelanians, messed up a pass and sent the ball right to Ghreksbvy. The Edsmon right midfielder, known for his speed, charged right down the wing, running past everyone. Without a signal at all, he cut right into the Marblelanian lines, continuing his charge. In no time, the ball was transferred to Stuero, who found Utravak*, allowing the striker to finish the chance with a goal.

Just like that, it was 1-0 for the Eagles. But they wouldn't be giving up just yet. In the ten minutes after the opening goal, the Eagles had three more chances. Unfortunately, all of them saw saves by the Marblelanian keeper Goldbridge, but they were good attempts either way. In the 17th minute is when the chance finally landed once again for the Eagles. Maven Rehcikt received the ball from Stuero, and through a lot of good footwork, was able to skip past the Marblelanian defense and score a grounded shot against Goldbridge.

At this point, the game was very, very one sided. The Yellow Monkeys had failed to make any progress, not even getting close to the defensive line before being shut down. As time passed, it seemed to only get worse, no matter how early it was in the game.

As the Eagles were coming out of an unsuccessful corner kick, chaos quickly rose. The ball found itself in the middle of chaos, and at the hands of some defenders, who had little choice but to find attackers that could actually convert the bal. Out of nowhere, there were calls for the referee. Fresh-on-the-field Shouzvenkreden, who was playing his first game of the tournament, was suddenly gripping him calf in pain after a collision between him and Simon Hart. A little too much pushing in warm-ups and a hard tackle from Hart stretched his leg to oblivion. The center back was then taken off, and in came Benzor Norseden, who was expecting a break.

From the freekick spot, the most unexpected thing happened. It wasn't Ghreksbvy or Stuero that took it, but Norseden. According to the team in a post match interview, they had been training up an extra set pieces specialist, and they knew their best bet in getting the opposition to calm down would be to put a defender in. With the Marblelanians a little less tense at the sight of the Edsmon defender stepping up, they opened up a hole for the Eagles.

There was no room for words after Norseden's shot soared through the air and went crossbar-down into the net. Everyone was cheering for the defender, who simply jogged to the corner flag and pointed right at the fans. At such a young age, nobody had expected him to be much more than a substitute, but here, Benzor Norseden had proven them all wrong. Ever since his debut, he had been a star on the Edsmon squad. Today had only strengthened that.

With a 3-0 lead, the Eagles didn't expect much more going out of the first half. But once again, out of nowhere, the Eagles found themselves with the ball directly in front of the Yellow Monkeys' net yet again. This time, a failed corner by the Marblelanians saw Sabmar Lankiv deliver a punt all the way past the half line to Maartin Stuero, who was sprinting as fast as he could to beat the midfielders who stayed behind. Just as Wilkins tapped the ball and prepared to pass to Billings, Stuero charged in, intercepting it and dribbling forward. Behind him was quite literally every other player. In front of him was Goldbridge and the net. With one powerful shot from just outside the box, Maartin Stuero scored the goal to close the first half off.

With the scoreline now at 4-0, the Eagles definitely expected much less going into the second half. They kind-of got what they had expected there. The Marblelanians were now up and running stronger than they had been before, but this time it seemed to be fueled by desperation. Already, the stadium was pretty empty when it came to the Yellow Monkeys' fans. However, the Eagles saw an overflow of fans. Those people took up the majority of the stadium with their giant flags, banners, and literal band that had come in to play traditional Edsmon songs, which the fans around them sang along to.

The Marblelanians got a few more shots in and managed to make more saves as well. But it wasn't enough. The Eagles continued pushing, this time even harder to counter the Yellow Monkeys' advance, and in the 71st minute, found a chance to raise the scoreline once again. Marvic Svaardaen, who came on for Rehickt, with all of the strength he could muster, fought through the Marblelanian defense, and even with the deflection from King, he was still able to land a volley and slam Edsmontik's 5th goal into the net. Just like that, 5-0.

It didn't take long before yet again, chaos arose again. Players from both sides were shouting at the referee to notice what had happened. Darion Ystermakt, who had come on for Oddevre Zeukalmen, had fired a powerful shot from just outside of the box, and the shot had deflected off the hand of Marblelanian player Mustard. It was over for good if the penalty was given.

The skies roared with the thundering applause of fans and players as the referee pointed and shouted "penalty". The ball was quickly set still by Maartin Stuero, who backed up to prepare for his shot. "I took a breath, and it was indeed like a mind game." he told reporters post match. "Goldbridge could potentially be thinking of going in the same direction as me, ruining my chance at scoring a closer." As the whistle blew, fans remained silent, and the Edsmon captain charged and fired the ball to the far right edge. To his disappointment, Goldbridge had dived him the same direction. But he didn't dive far enough, and the ball barely slipped through.

Right as the final whistle blew, the Eagles roared with celebration. From the stands, the band that had showed up blasted victory music. Edsmon flags were thrown around. The Round of 16 was now in sight for the Eagles. And they would have to make sure that they keep performances like this going for the next rounds, or else they face the possibility of going home trophyless.

Sudilia 3-1 Britonisea
(St-Onge 4', 82', Richardson 50' | REDACTED 90+2')
The Lithico™, SoccerLand, Taxhavn

Hot Takes from The Cold North

Sudilia advance to the Round-of-16 after a commanding and dominating victory over co-hosts Britonisea with a great 3-1 victory at The Lithico™ in SoccerLand, Taxhavn to send the team against newcomers and surprise package of this tournament in Nieuweland. Here's today's takeaways of the match:

1. St-Onge may be the future of Sudilia
Adrien St-Onge once again showed why he has so much talent and promise for the national team and makes him likely to be the first true superstar of the National Team. A cheeky opening goal from getting past two Britonisea defenders had the Sudilians with joy and excitement while he looked very calm and collected for a player of his age. The second goal was a wonder, getting past REDACTED and sending a strong, curving shot that got past REDACTED to seal Sudilia with the goal and the advance, even with minutes left to play. Truly the right player to be awarded the Player Of The Match Award.

2. The Defense is strong and shows promise for years to come
Despite conceding a goal late in the match, the backline of Keen-Rossi, Khan, Clarke, and Williams was stellar during the match, doing crucial tackles and blocks to make Reeves' job a lot easier in front of goal. Very clean match with only a yellow card and few fouls had Sudilia looking very strong and professional, more than they ever had been in the team's history. One must give the big thanks to Liam Phaneuf for getting a lot out of a team that has been seen as minnows for most of its history.

3. Sudilia could be the surprise package of the tournament
Sudilia, while being a Pot 2 team, has shown to be a very strong and resilient team up to now. One of the highest scoring teams, strong defense in conceding only two goals up to now, there is plenty of hope that Sudilia can be a high Pot 2 team coming into the next IAC tournament. For now though, there is a viable path that Sudilia could be in the Final Four if they can make it that far. Truly a change that nobody could've imagined just 10 years ago, yet here they are. With a very difficult path to their first ever IAC Final, Sudilia has a future to look forward to, only if they can beat Nieuweland.

There is a reason why Chromatika started putting together rosters of players with less than fifty caps for their Regionals. It's a way for the Chromatik brass to see how new players fare. It's a way for veterans who's always been pool players during the World Cup to get meaningful playing time. However, it's first and foremost something that lets players add on to their story.

Look at the Sæsdóttir twins, for example. When they headed off to Tikariot, they were the prodigies set to debut in the national team for cycles to come. However, things didn't go their way. They were overlooked, underestimated, and when it looked like they would get their chance, the Lethbridge-Antonios came. Sure, Claudia and Jayla have been brilliant, but there is no doubting the name power that Gabriella Antonio has, and so, the Sæsdóttir twins waited. They won the TPL last season, and now, they're getting their shot.

Or, take Jaxon Lehmann. He moved to Indusse to pursue his career, the first Chromatik to play there. He has done so well at New Hinds City that he has staked a claim for Chromatika, and he's shown that he absolutely belongs in this tournament.

Add in people like Karjalainen, Bittencourt, and Sehlman, and it becomes abundantly clear that this is the way to go. There was a time where they fielded U-25 teams, but that ended up becoming a problem due to the Chromatik Collegiate Football Association holding players till they were twenty-three. Chromatika must hold on to the idea that players can come out of the woodwork even in the middle of their careers - they cannot afford to just purely rely on youth.

They haven't won a regional tournament since they made this change, but that's all right. It's about putting film on tape, seeing chemistries, figuring out what the next World Cup will be like.

And for that, this format has been perfect.

It's all about the players, after all.

Independent Associations Championship 25 Round of Thirty-Two: Chromatika 2-2 Indusse (3-2 AET)
Goals: Karjalainen 20', Baïe-Verte 72', Bittencourt 109'
Starting XI: Swanson (C); Lehmann - Han Cunningham - Ataciara; Hauptmeijer - Lethbridge-Antonio - Lee - Panaś; Karjalainen; Jean-Baptiste - Baïe-Verte.
Substitutes: Hrönn -> Han Cunningham (51'), Nana -> Ataciara (51'), Gundsdorf -> Lethbridge-Antonio (65'), Oriol -> Hauptmeijer (65'), Bittencourt -> Baïe-Verte (84')
Summary: It took overtime, but Adélaide Bittencourt's header off of a Linnea Karjalainen cross ended up being the decider as the Chromatiks outlasted Indusse to move on to the Round of Sixteen. Karjalainen has been a find during these Independent Association Championships, having taken over as one of the attacking midfielders and scoring off of set pieces. In a position where Maddie Prenn is the future, her presence will be appreciated. Swanson struggled early, but settled in, and stopped all three shots on goal in extra time. Chromatika managed to dodge a disastrous exit and move on to the final sixteen.
Independent Associations Championship 25 Round of Sixteen Preview: Chromatika vs. Aphrilia
Starting XI: Swanson (C); Lehmann - Han Cunningham - Ataciara; Hauptmeijer - Lethbridge-Antonio - Lee - Panaś; Karjalainen; Jean-Baptiste - Baïe-Verte.
Substitutes: GK Jessika Aniston, GK Hera Courtois, DCR Ineke van der plas Bouwmeester, DC Hrönn Sæsdóttir, DCL Dean Crankshaw, DCL Nana Sæsdóttir, MR Kandice Oriol, WBL Willemieke Janissen op Colmans, WBL Marci Shaefer, CDM Eden Gunsdorf, BWM Erica Holgersson, AM Þyrill Bjarnhéðinsson, AF Adélaide Bittencourt, CF Jack Heimdell, AF Freya Sehlman
Preview: Next up? Top-ranked Aphrilia. This is not the World Cup, and these are not the players Chromatika usually has representing them at this level. That means this won't be a pushover - and throw in the fact that Aphrilia has already defeated Chromatika once in the past - in World Cup 97, the third match of the World Cup Proper Group Stage. This will be the toughest test so far for this particular lineup. Can they pull it through?

"The defeat was indeed crushing, we may have lost badly, but it was a good run."
That was what Coach Joey Mulholland said when the team was returning back from Manchbury, Sudilia.

The night was intense, no one can believe what the heck was happening there. No one can believe their eyes. Tears of joy and sadness were present.

But as the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Coach Joey encouraged the boys to stand up, train more, and play better, treat every opponent as if they are Edsmontik.

The players arrive in Marbleland as heroes, but the left Manchbury, with tearful memories. While many head back home, some had arrived in Curumba, HUElavia to support their neighbours Nieuweland, or also known as the Sky Blues.

The atmosphere in Curumba is lively thus far, with the ultras of both the Yellow Monkeys and Nieuweland chanting together. Banners and flags are waved, firecrackers are lit. This match is a decisive one, either team are going forward, and another will return home with memories and defeat.

Who will stay in the run for the trophy? Newbie Nieuweland or Super Sudilia?

Mad Mike and Joe in the Morning!

Mike: You ever think wed see the Round of 16?

Joe: Not in this lifetime. The team was provin to be a joke.

Mike: Theyve really impressed. But the bar was on the floor. They could do anything, and itd be an improvement over the dogshow weve watched lately.

Joe: They really could, but they knocked it out as it were. I think we all wouldve loved just making the Round of 32, but first place and now its the Round of 16.

Mike: Good old Sel Appan football. That is what were here for.

Joe: And here we are.

Mike: Here we are. Pinch me, Joe, I must be dreamin.

Joe: Mike, youre not dreamin. This is a Sel Appan team back in the knockouts for international football. And Id be happy to punch you.

Mike: Come here and do it!

Joe: I will, just wait.

Mike: You coward.

Joe: Well you know its comin now, thats no fun.

Mike: Alright Joe, weve established youre a coward.

Joe: Whatever helps you sleep at night, Mike.

Mike: I sleep well thank you as long as you arent in my nightmares.

Joe: Oh he dreams about me too. How sweet.

Mike: You know what, I oughta punch you.

Joe: You wont.

Mike: Alright, lets take some calls.

Mike: Whats your name, where ya callin from?

Caller 1: Frank, Anila. I wanted to get your thoughts on Walter.

Mike: The coach?

Caller 1: Yea.

Mike: Well obviously hes doin great.

Joe: Yea, he was definitely a good pick. Just what we needed. I like his energy. Hes behind the team 100%

Mike: Yea, you really can see his heart in the game every minute.

Joe: I mean like you said the bar was on the floor. We just wanted to a see a team win a game and get thru group stage.

Mike: But winning the group, thats great. You know it wont last, but Im gonna enjoy it.

Joe: Oh come on, Mike. This team can take it to the pitch.

Mike: I know. Im an optimist, but Im getting ready for the inevitable.

Joe: Oh please. Thats ridiculous.

Mike: How is it ridiculous? The team will eventually meet a match.

Joe: Have some optimism.

Mike: I am optimistic. Im optimistic we will see another win or two and thats it.

Joe: This guy is never happy.

Mike: Oh stop it. Lets take another call. Whats your name, where ya callin from?

Caller 2: Im also Joe.

Mike: Oh great, as if one isnt enough.

Caller 2: *laughs nervously* ...calling from Paraton, and I wanted your takes on what we can expect from the next match and the rest of the tournament.

Joe: Well, I mean we have Choppyhausen next, the team in teal. They seem to be good at taking draws, three draws saw them thru, which ya gotta admire. What was the score, you remember, Mike?

Mike: Glad we have at least one brain here.

Joe: Ha...ha...

Mike: They did 1-1, 1-1, and 0-0. Really defensive team, did they hire Marek? And now a 1-0 over Saperetia. You can draw your way out of the group, but you need to win to continue here. I think we can win this, but a team like that is unpredictable.

Joe: Both teams are undefeated, but we have two wins on them and some better goalscoring. Nine goals to three out of four games. Id take those odds.

Mike: Did you?

Joe: I always bet on the Turtles. Are you kiddin?

Mike: I figured, but I want to hear it from your ugly mouth.

Joe: Oh here we go again.

Mike: Lets go for another call. Whats your name, where ya callin from?

Caller 3: Bob from Mizoor. Do you think this team has a chance for the World Cup?

Mike: You know, thats a good one. Were right here in the middle of the Independents Cup and he wants to know about the World Cup.

Joe: I think we are seeing a team that can qualify. They finally had the turnover needed and the staff needed. Im excited for the future finally.

Mike: Sure, they finally have some success to look at, and coach Daviande is a great guy. He really is. How did Fizroe ever manage to nab him. He was Anila City for so long.

Joe: Dont forget, he coached the Serpents too.

Mike: I forget that team exists.

Joe: I think you forgot your hair too.

Mike: Really funny, Joe, a bald joke. First time Ive ever heard a bald joke, even from you.

Joe: *cackling on the mic*

Mike: This team I do think finally has what it takes, and well be moving up a lot in the ranks after this tournament.

Joe: I think so too.

Mike: I didnt know you could even think.

Joe: Well, thinking for me is at a level you cant comprehend, Mike.

Mike: Yea I dont comprehend stupidity, but here you are.

Joe: Alright, were up against the break. Back in a few...
