Hello, all! We have an addendum to our bid that we would like to clarify before the host vote.

During the most recent World Cup, a user posted RPs which made others in the community deeply uncomfortable, eventually escalating to a point at which the user received multiple forum bans and was removed from the competition entirely. Although we certainly hope it never becomes relevant, we do want to do what we can to mitigate the possibility such a situation arises again and to take action quickly if it ever does. To that end, if we are selected to host these tournaments, we would reserve the right as the tournaments’ hosts to moderate extreme content.

Extreme content includes, among other subjects, content celebrating sexual crimes, murder, mass death, dehumanization, or hatred on the basis of group or individual identity, as well as harassment targeted towards any user, whether expressed as that user themself or a fictionalized character meant to represent them. We expect participants not to use the tournament specifically or the forums generally as an excuse to broadcast their own thinly-veiled real-life fantasies or grievances at the expense of all other participants. It isn’t fair to newcomers, who may not want to become a part of a community which tolerates such content. It isn’t fair to fixture opponents, who have to interact with such content. Frankly, it isn’t fair to hosts, who have to grade such content. We expect all our participants to respect the tournament and one another by refraining from engaging in this extreme content.

We don’t make this announcement lightly. NSS is a creative pursuit, and we’re loathe to restrict potential grounds for storytelling. Certainly, compelling narratives can include, or even feature, dark or violent themes, characters, or events. But there does come a step too far. We do want to reassure everyone: this will be the fiftieth edition of the Copa Rushmori, and neither of the two OOC bidders can recall any prior content from any prior Copa which crossed this line. We expect nothing will come close at this edition, either. Events since the conclusion of the most recently-completed Copa, however, do illuminate the need for hosts to be ready just in case something does happen.

In the event a user violates this rule, we may zero out their rank and bonus for the remainder of the tournament. In such a case, we would inform the user privately of our decision. In repeat instances, or in egregious cases, we may declare fixtures to be forfeit. In this event, we would declare this publicly. If users have any questions before posting content, they may of course contact us freely with any questions they may have to make sure their content does not violate this rule.

Our apologies again that we feel the need to address this topic. We do not believe it will be necessary. However, with extreme content having recently sullied the landmark centennial World Cup, we feel it necessary to take steps to ensure nothing of the sort will spoil the historic semicentennial Copa Rushmori, and we feel it best to make you all aware of that before host voting begins. Thank you to all for being a part of this wonderful community, and we look forward to a fantastic Copa!

As with any other previous host bid votings, only one vote will be allowed per user, which means that any users who have signed up both master and puppet nations may only vote once.

Hey folks! We’re really excited to welcome you to our nations for Copa Rushmori L and the Campeonatos Rushmori Juvenils.

On numbers: we’re currently at twenty-nine, with twenty-eight, thirty, or thirty-two being workable. Our initial twenty-eight signups are accepted, and Three Golden Kingdoms are on the waitlist in case we get to thirty or beyond. We’ll designate 3:00 Pacific on Monday the twelfth as the deadline for any new entries and the time for our draw on Discord. We’ll tentatively plan on the following Monday, the nineteenth, being the date for matchday one, to give everyone at least a week to work on their rosters and opening-day RPs.

As for the IC thread: we should have it up momentarily, but we’d like to ask you all to refrain from posting there until all our IC hosts have reserved posts for their host information. Apologies for the delay, as we were unable to find a time when every IC host was available at the same time, but this won’t be an issue for cutoffs, as both OOC hosts are located in North America. The OP is extremely bare-bones for now, but we will add more, particularly after we finalize the format and the draw on Monday.

Hey everyone! NSS is finally back! We’re excited to finish off the Copa Rushmori and Campeonato Rushmori Juvenils, which were awaiting the quarterfinals at the time the forums went down.

Our plan will be to resume the tournament on Monday 18:00 Pacific, then stage the semifinals on Wednesday, and then the finals on Friday. That means our next cutoff is about 52.5 hours from now, just beyond the typical length of a full window, and we’ll delay scorination until after the Super Bowl.
