For the most part, these tankers aren't even insured and their hulls officially condemned for shipbreaking since 2013.

Trump’s diversionary war in Venezuela isn’t working as well as he hoped, so now he might actually have to enact regime change to not loose face.

That's not the point. I remember other cases involving fishermen, or perhaps drug dealers, who could be called that, but in this case, they legally detained the vessel, not bombed it without trial.

I will admit, I was being a tad hyperbolic While international law permits boarding of statless ships, its up to domestic law to decide what to do with them. Some nations extend their jurisdiction to stateless ships, some do not. Neither postions are illegal by UNCLOS

The ship in question had evaded US sanctions multiple times, had a captain who had done things the US had deemed illegal, and the US invoked its jurisdiction, just like it is allowed to do. It's not like they can leave the tanker in the middle of the ocean, just like when cops raid a drug kingpin's house and find his supercar, they seized it
