Their job is to pull over random brown people in traffic and harass them?

What was the probable cause here?

Considering their duties, this shouldn't surprise anyone. You'd be horrified by the discontent with the Gestapo's activities. They're different organizations, of course, but the comparison is apt—if someone's work is illegal, ostracism shouldn't be surprising.

Well, look. The job of one organization is to find dissatisfied people and groups to be exterminated. It's not limited to that, but still. The job of another is to find illegal immigrants, deport them, and intimidate other immigrants. Which one is which? Wait, I'm already getting them confused.

Simply "doing their job" isn't an excuse. It's the same as the "just following orders" argument.

When did this country just quietly go back to accepting this as an actual official stated policy?

It's both, but one causes the other. FPTP doesn't mathematically support having more (or less) than two viable parties — until a third party reaches the threshold where it's replaced one of the two major parties, and thus stopped being a "third party" (as seen in the mid-1800s when the Republicans replaced the Whigs; the opposite effect happened in the 1820s-1830s when the Federalists stopped being a viable party, and the Democratic-Republicans almost immediately schismed into the Democrats and the Whigs to fill the void), votes going to it have the effect of empowering the major party that the voter hates more.

And the effect of this is that any fringe groups that can find a home in one of the major parties do, because that's their only plausible route to any actual influence, so the leftovers who are still tilting at that windmill on their own are the lunatics and extremists.

My kid is in her 20’s. She looked at the current third parties and found them….odd. Some things she liked…some she that would a little nutty. She tried talking to a libertarian and thought he was rather angry. Basic argument was if more libertarians were in power, things would change. As she said “That’s what the democrats and republicans argue”

That is some incredibly superficial political analysis.

That was a pretty superficial judgement.

As I said; they can’t sell it enough to get people of “the devil you know” logic. If you talk to a perspective new member; you don’t get all angry about the state of affairs.

What third party should she be looking at?

As to the claim. That’s not the guiding principle of people voting. The only time that really comes up is when somebody like trump is running. A Third party candidate who few people know will not win. Just the way things are.

Seriously; a third party president isn’t going to accomplish much if at all. Third parties need to drop the “if we get POTUS! IT WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING!”. They need to do the grass roots so the POTUS has a base of support.

Racial profiling is not ok. Just following orders is not an excuse. States and cities should start arresting ICE officers and charging them them crimes and if DOJ doesn't like it tell them to take a hike.

Oh I agree that they should give better reasons than how it'll change everything. It should be more of a concerted effort to show how their combination of views is better. However to say that "everything will change" is the same argument the main parties give isn't true was all I was saying, because again it's a different level of change.

Eh, it's America. People get shot and killed all the time. So this case isn't particularly noteworthy in that regard.

Both, because I think that if a new election system were introduced, the two main parties would split, and alliances between mid and small parties would form. It would curb the massive control wielded by single-party executives while allowing smaller parties a say.

Then again?…..maybe following such a horrible incompetant President can only make you look decent?….

It’s all guesswork now……

They've been doing this for decades. The Republicans spend their terms breaking shit, the Democrats get back into power and fix like maybe two things before Republicans in Congress or the Supreme Court or their own party stop them from getting anything accomplished, and then the Republicans campaign on, "Look at all these problems the Democrats created! You'd better put us back in so we can fix them!" And everybody falls for it, and the Republicans get back in and break a bunch more shit.

Well?……is that the systems fault or the people? You look at trump and all his criminal activities and a great many people support him. He is probably a child rapist and they go “fake news! He is my guy!”

I don’t see a third party approach solving this any time soon. People will use what works. If people respond to what the R & Ds do? Odds are the third party will use some of the play book if not all…..

GMS, to answer The Black Forrest question to all NSsers, since he has me on ignore and I ask him again, and all who have me on ignore. Take Me off Ignore, because all we do on NS is exchange our Posts and views with Mutual Personal Respect, we will never think the same when we think different? What is the Shock Point? The answer is, There is no Shock Point, ICE is doing its Job.

GMS, Support ICE. Let ICE do its Job.there is no American Gestapo, It does not exist. President Trump is not Adolf Hitler the second of Nazi Germany or of the USA. The USA under Republican President Trump is not The Fourth Reich.

And here we go with the everyone is rich and well known. That’s simply not true.

It is an immense boon to anyone looking for political office to have name recognition and/or some amount of personal wealth. Both make it easier to campaign; preexisting name recognition avoids the effort of having to establish yourself and your character to people, while personal wealth means that money is not as much of a problem.
