no but there's a very high chance of so called "safe zones" being struck by israel since they've done so in the past, these people are however carrying what little they have on them in bags and buckets so it doesn't get stolen or destroyed. idk about you but i don't trust a government that's been breaking the ceasefire to provoke a response to be the guardian of my belongings

The time boundary is also interesting. A 99-year-old collective with a distinct culture, government, borders, and the like are considered a coincidental swath of nomadic invaders, but, that 100-year mark suddenly forms them into a cohesive country to be recognized by all. I would be curious to learn what led D.K.S. to this determination. If Israel manages to exist past 100 years of age--probably will do so within many of our lifetimes--are we to then consider Israel a state?

There is a point at which genocide becomes fait accompli, which tends to near as time passes. Hitler thought he would get away with lebensraum by employing such "quickness and brutality" that, like the Armenian Genocide, the West would not bother to contest the issue (v. the Obersalzberg speech). If the Nazis had enough time, there wouldn't have been enough Poles for a Polish nation-state, even with settler removals on the table.

The saving grace of Herrenvolk democracy is that all democracies struggle with completing ambitious projects. Very few politicians in Israel's history would have had the political capital to pursue exterminationist policies as drastic as the ones Netanyahu has enacted.

Turkey seeks safe passage for 200 civilians trapped in Gaza tunnels, official says

Turkey and Egypt have been negotiating for a deal where 200 Hamas militants trapped underneath Rafah are allowed safe passage in exchange for their disarmament & exile, or something to that effect. Israel hasn't really budged on this issue.

In numbers: One month of ceasefire in Gaza
It’s now been one month since the ceasefire came into effect in Gaza. Since the start of the ceasefire:

At least 241 Palestinians have been killed and 619 wounded by Israeli attacks that have continued.
Hamas has returned all 20 remaining living captives and bodies of 24 of the 28 deceased captives.
Israel has released about 2,000 Palestinians, including 250 political prisoners who were serving lengthy or life sentences, and 1,718 Palestinians who were, according to the UN, forcefully disappeared by Israel during the war.
Bodies of Palestinians have also been returned, with Israeli authorities handing over 15 for each deceased Israeli returned in recent exchanges. Palestinian officials say they have struggled with identification due to the decomposition of the bodies and the lack of necessary equipment in the enclave.

2 months is the record to beat.

Israeli soldiers speak out on killings of Gaza civilians

More soldiers speaking out, far too late for a lot of Palestinians in Gaza.

Times of Israel: The bill of Otzma Yehudit ('Jewish Power') "to impose the death penalty on terrorists who have killed Israelis" passes, with 39 votes to 16, its first reading.
Otzma Yehudit MK Limor Son Har-Melech’s bill stipulates that Israeli courts must impose the death penalty on those who have committed a nationalistically motivated murder of a citizen of Israel ...
The bill states that it applies to those who kill Israelis due to “racism” and “with the aim of harming the State of Israel and the revival of the Jewish people in its land,” leading to criticism that it would apply only to Arabs who kill Jews and not to Jewish terrorists ... The bill will now be referred to committee to be prepared for the final two readings it must pass to become law. Except for Avigdor Liberman’s Yisrael Beytenu party, which voted in favor, the votes were largely boycotted by the opposition, with all of Blue and White and all but one of Yesh Atid’s MKs staying away. Among the Haredi parties, United Torah Judaism’s Degel HaTorah faction pledged to oppose the bill. All but two of Shas’s lawmakers missed the late night vote.

Video: Ben Gvir distributes baklava in the Knesset on the occasion of the vote's success

According to the Knesset Web page, which I just now recalled to my ordinator, the bill passed its very first vote in March of 2023, after which it was to be prepared for the 'first reading' which only now took place.

This is my stance regarding Israel and Palestine, and the U.S. involvement.

Israel (the modern state, not the biblical or historical nation) has been operating as an apartheid state for a long time now, and over the past few years were outright committing a genocide against the Palestinian people. Prime Minister Benjamen Netanyahu is a war criminal.

The U.S. should cut off all military and economic support to Israel and make the boycotts, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement national policy, until Israel comes to the bargaining table with Palestine to negotiate the terms of a one-state solution, with equal rights for both non-Palestinian and Palestinian Israelis. Both Israel and the U.S. owe reparations to the Palestinian people (and the U.S. also owes reparations to a number of other peoples as well, including descendants of slavery and black Americans, descendants of WWII Japanese internment, its various indigenous groups, etc...).

Israel has the right to exist, but it does not have the right to exist as a Jewish-only ethnostate, nor to exist as a theocracy (Israel must be secular). Israel has the right to defend itself, but it does not have the right to commit war crimes or genocide. What Israel has been doing is not defense.

I understand given the history of persecution that the Jewish people have endured, that some Jewish people would want to establish a state (Israel) as a homeland and safe haven for their people (though not all Jewish people are interested in returning to Israel or support Israel). However, it is also true that there are many stateless ethnicities and people groups in the world, that many people groups are spread out over a diaspora, and that many people groups are and have always been minority groups in what we could call their historical homelands. The Jewish people are not unique in that regard. It is not feasible (and arguably not even desirable) to give every ethno-linguistic people group their own state (the issue is geopolitically complex and every situation needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis). That said, I think it is completely acceptable for Israel to have a right of return for all members of the Jewish diaspora, but if they have a right to return than that right to return must apply to all people groups whom have a claim to the southern Levant being their homeland and if they have a right to return they must also have a right to remain (for the Palestinians). Israel must be a country that is shared with both the current Israeli population and the current Palestinian population.

I am opposed to all positions that espouse xenophobia, islamophobia, antisemitism, zionism, or ethnonationism.

P.S. Not that it matters, but I feel compelled to mention that my late father and his family were/are Jewish Americans.

Not difficult to imagine a lot of young people thinking they might as well get laid before they die.

It's still kinda selfish for them to think like that. They know the consequences of having sex, especially when there is limited access to birth control. It doesn't matter if they think each day would be their last. They're making everything worse by continuing to have kids, regardless if they intend to or not, which will take up more resources which other people desperately need during a war.

So absence contraceptives but for adults instead of teenagers.

In my capacity as Basileus and Autocrat of this thread, I end the present poll, which ran for ca. two days. The results are as follows:
Do you condemn Israel?
Yes: 32 (76%)
No: 10 (24%)
Total votes: 42
The following poll will concern the proper territorial extent of Israel.

Maybe I'm the Caliph, or King of Kings, or 'head of state'.
The Hebrew rosh ha-memshelah is, I think, a modern coinage. How would we translate 'thread'? This 'rosh', like the American 'president', was originally modest. You have also, for example, rosh yeshiva - head (i.e., principal) of a yeshiva.
According to Wiktionary, the Hebrew for thread, in forum, is שרשור - shirshur. I acclaim myself rosh ha-shirshur.

This was the subject of the first poll, the results of which are archived in the original post.
