SERNET DESTROYS MACBON 4-0 IN NESTOMERISEN
the match:
Sernesports TV
Reporter: Bobby Boltings Senior

Sernet produced a commanding display in front of a jubilant home crowd at Kingfisher Waters in Nestomerisen, sweeping aside Macbon 4–0 in what may be their most confident attacking performance yet under Stoberus Pond.

From the opening whistle, the intent was clear. Sernet pressed high, moved the ball with purpose, and forced Macbon onto the back foot almost immediately. The breakthrough came at the 15th minute when Wasori Oluwawa pounced on a loose clearance to fire home from close range.

Rather than sit back, Sernet pushed harder. Their second goal - a curling effort from Komstrowski at the 41st minute - underlined his rise to fame as a national hero in his local area of Sosenystowos. By halftime, the match already felt beyond doubt, with the visitors struggling to contain Sernet’s fluid front line and quick passing patterns.

Two more goals followed after the interval: a thumping header by Poltus Esingfort from a corner by Zenobiusz Kusek at the 64th minute and a composed late finish at the 88th minute from 19-year-old substitute Piotr Ustewski, assisted by Stirius Mantrostem, sealing a scoreline that reflected Sernet’s dominance in every area.

Pond praised both the performance and the mentality. “It’s not just the goals,” he said post-match. “It’s the control, the movement, the belief. We looked like a team that knows exactly who it is and how it wants to play. The Steamers have done well today; a true reflection of what we can achieve when we're on it.”
The crowd inside Kingfisher Waters rose to their feet at the final whistle - not just to celebrate a victory, but to acknowledge a side that finally looks capable of competing with anyone. Nestomerisen was full of celebration, as was the rest of the country. But a tougher challenge was yet to come... ...Sernet's next game was against Juvencus, at Gomswood Fields in Stensemertef.
Final Score:
SERNET 4-0 MACBON

Sernet: Oluwawa 15' , Komstrowski 41' , Esingfort 64' , Ustewski 88'

SERNET SMASHES JUVENCUS 3-1 IN STENSEMERTEF

Now this match is a true highlight. Supporters and patriots turned up at Gomswood Fields in Stensemertef, not really knowing what to expect but still ready to support their beautiful country to the death anyway. Most people were betting on a draw - some jobless critics were slamming Sernet, saying that they stood no chance against the Juvens, whereas Ultra-Patriots were declaring that Sernet will win, and there is no other possible outcome. The scene before the match at Stensemertef was genuinely heartwarming, with whole scores of fans assembling and standing to attention for Sernet. They didn't yet know that this match was going to be one of the most significant matches in the history of Sernetian football. If the 4–0 win over Macbon was a statement, this one was a declaration. Sernet stunned the international football scene with a 3–1 triumph over Juvencus - a powerhouse side known for their technical precision and tactical discipline. For Stoberus Pond’s team, it was the clearest sign yet that Sernet’s rise is real. It definitely shutted up the critics.

The match began at a blistering tempo, with Juvencus dominating early possession. The fans were getting nervous, but they sang and sang at the top of their voices. Every single one of Gomswood's 88,000 seats was filled apparently, with fans from as far afield as Salfondum, Taftosen, Kirstraltoltis and even places like Smoltrendestof. But of course there were Juven fans too, who had come even further. There was a battle in the supporter stands the same way there was a battle down on the pitch - Sernetians patriotically waving their flags emblazoned with the name of their home towns, singing chants to encourage the Steamers and hoping for the best. Sernet had awakened and had started to challenge Juvencus a lot more than they had in the first five minutes. Everyone on that field, whether playing for Sernet or Juvencus, was putting in their blood, sweat and tears into it.
It was Sernet who struck first, at the 34th minute: Stefan Jatrowski finishing a sweeping counterattack that started deep in our own half. The goal electrified the home crowd and set the tone for what followed - a performance of courage, control, and conviction.

Juvencus equalized just before halftime through midfielder Simon Oliveira, but Sernet refused to retreat. In the second half, their pressing intensified, their passes sharpened, and their confidence grew. Sayako restored the lead with a brilliant individual effort, weaving past defenders before slotting home, and legend Sporius added a third with a fierce strike from distance that brought the stadium to its feet, assisted directly by goalkeeper Pasarowski.

Pond was visibly proud after the match. “This wasn’t about luck,” he said. “It was about belief. We respected Juvencus, but we didn’t fear them. That’s the difference now - we play our football, no matter who’s in front of us.”

The final whistle brought scenes of celebration rarely seen in Sernetian football - players wholeheartedly embracing, fans singing long after the teams had left the pitch. The entire nation was indulged in their love of Sernet. The atmosphere was diBeating Juvencus wasn’t just three points; it was a milestone, proof that Sernet can stand among the multiverse’s elite.
Final score:
JUVENCUS 1-3 SERNET

Goals:
Juvencus: Oliveira 43'
Sernet: Jatrowski 34' , Sayako 53' , Bolsting 77'

Pre-match review: MD12 vs Yangchenia (away) (no match to play on MD11)

reporter: Peter Ram-Ostorisk

squad:

OG starting 11 for both matches, but expect substitutions.

Analysis:
The steamers finally get a break on Matchday 11, with no match to play, after what seemed like an endless amount of fixtures. Afterwards, Sernet flies to Yangchenia to face the Blazing Dragons once again, this time on their home soil...
...Last time we faced Yangchenia at Seven Bridges, we secured our first three points on that table. Hopefully we can squeeze out another three. To be honest, there's not much else to say other than that, good luck Sernet, hope you win. Yes, I am going to Yangchenia to watch the Steamers.

There is also no guide for visiting fans because there are no home matches for Sernet in the next two matchdays.

Sporius Bolsting interview
(ooc note: i am trying my best to make proper photos of my players.
by Peter Ram-Ostorisk.

Calm, composed, and quietly driven, Sporius Bolsting sits down with Sernesports TV’s Peter Ram-Ostorisk to discuss his form, his team, and the sense of belief sweeping through the country.

Peter: Sporius, congratulations on what’s been a remarkable run so far. Two big goals - one to kick things off against Yangchenia, and one in that monumental 3–1 win over Juvencus. How are you feeling right now?

Sporius Bolsting:
Thank you. Honestly, it feels amazing. Every goal means something, but these two - they feel special because they’ve come in moments that define who we are becoming as a team. Against Yangchenia, it set the tone. Against Juvencus, it showed we belong at this level. I’m proud, but I’m also hungry for more.

Peter: That Juvencus match - many are calling it one of the greatest nights in Sernet’s modern football history. What was it like to be out there?

Bolsting:
It was electric. The energy from the crowd, the way we played - it all came together. Juvencus are a top side with real quality, but we didn’t back down. When I scored, the noise in the stadium was unreal. I remember thinking, “This is what we’ve been working for.” You could feel belief spreading through every player, every supporter. One hundred percent agree with those who say it was one of the greatest nights in Sernet's modern football history. Also a big shout-out to each and every supporter who came to cheer us on, you guys are what makes football such a wonderful sport. It wouldn't be the same without you lot.

Peter: You’ve become a consistent threat in front of goal. What’s changed for you personally this campaign?

Bolsting:
Confidence, mostly - and trust. Coach Pond has been clear with me about what he wants: movement, timing, and staying sharp between the lines. The system suits me, and the players around me - Wasori, Lansor Sayako, Zbigniew, Korolianus, all of them - make my job easier. We’re not a team of individuals anymore. Everyone knows their role.

Peter: How important has Stoberus Pond been in this transformation?

Bolsting:
Massive. He brought structure and belief. Before, we’d go into games hoping; now we go in knowing what we can do. He’s demanding, yes, but also encouraging. When things don’t go our way, he doesn’t panic - and that calmness spreads. The guy's a legend, honestly.

Peter: You mentioned belief. Do you feel like something has changed within the national team - maybe even in how Sernet sees itself?

Bolsting:
Definitely. You can sense it everywhere - from the dressing room to the fans in the stands. We’ve moved from being proud to compete to being proud to win. There’s a real connection between the team and the people again. You look around and think: “We’re building something that’s going to last.” Sernetian football is no longer defined solely by the clubs. Obviously, we've always had a national team, but they barely ever ventured out into other parts of the multiverse. And now here we are, on the way to being a potential multiversal footballing powerhouse. We're building a new reputation here.

Peter: And finally, what’s next for you?

Bolsting:
[Laughs] Hopefully a few more goals! But more than that - I just want to keep contributing to this journey. It’s not about personal records. It’s about Sernet, about showing the world who we are. Every match, every training session - we’re writing our story together. I love my country, I am a passionate Sernetian patriot, and all of my goals are in the name of Sernet ,as well as mine of course.

As the interview ends, Bolsting flashes a modest smile - the kind of quiet confidence that defines both him and this new era of Sernet football. The goals may carry his name, but the belief behind them belongs to a nation. A true man of his country.

Uwe Bärwald is arguably the most famous fashion designer from the Union and the designer of sports uniforms for both the national football team and the Olympic squads. He joined our interviewer for a conversation about his life amid the centenary World Cup as his nation wears his uniforms. He talks about his life, passion, and sporting opinions throughout this interview, which will be released as a series.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

INT: Now let’s talk about some of your more recent career developments. You’ve come to be considered a quite progressive voice in the industry, could you tell us about that?

UB: Certainly. As you no doubt are aware, the fashion industry has long been criticized for promoting unhealthy body standards for the models, with some struggling with eating disorders and the accompanying health issues. After an incident where one of our models was hospitalized due to complications with anorexia, I made the decision to stop using models underneath a healthy BMI. This is done to preserve the health and self-esteem, one should not have to starve themselves to be fashionable. Another initiative, as concern for the environment has become more and more at the forefront of discussion, is a green fashion initiative. We seek to design and make garments from recycled materials, cutting down on waste. It is not always easy to accomplish this and maintain our high standards, but thanks to new innovations in the recycling business it is becoming more of a reality, and this is something we look forward to continuing in the spirit of benefitting the environment.

INT: Just as at the start of your career, you have continued to be a driver of new frontiers in fashion marketing. What have you worked on recently to promote your brand?

UB: It seems strange now, given the massive growth of digital media, but we were the first fashion house to broadcast a fashion show live on the internet. To be at the technological cutting-edge is to gain a competitive advantage, and even by the time we broadcast our show it was clear that the internet was not to be a mere fleeting fad. The years since then have more than justified that decision. Another area that we have expanded into is the clothing worn by famous musicians on tour or at their appearances. This is really an extension of the work in the film industry, but musicians and actors have different requirements and needs.

INT: You really have done many things over your career, worn many hats, so to speak. What is it that you are working on currently?

UB: Our most recent addition to the product line has been a jewelry collection, new designs for which I am still developing. Beyond that, it would be unwise to divulge which projects we are in the process of finalizing. All this will be revealed in due time.

Hapilopper - Nathan Ellis Superstadium

There was something almost offensive about Super Earthers attending a Superstadium in foreign territory. It made the word Super- normally reserved for such special occasions as bundles of Super Credits, the legions of urban warfare specialists in the Super Pedestrians, the rural combat-ranchers of the Super Sheriffs, and the recently-awarded Super Presidential Medal of Ultra Freedom- seem as if it were being thrown around without rhyme or reason. It was yet another grudge that Super Earth had against Hapilopper, the adversary that had introduced it to the concept of bitter defeat. Drowned under a series of draws and victories, the Senators had begun to forget the sting of that brutal occasion. It would not take long for them to be reminded.

The Senators engaged with a team that had a higher aggression rating than themselves. A team that had floored them at the beginning of the tournament. By all accounts, Super Earth was an imposing presence in the World Cup, but it was clinging to its prominence by a narrow, weakening thread as other nations struggled for the spot, and veterans seemed to be coming out on top. Hapilopper could not be allowed another victory over the Federation. Into the fire the former Helldivers world storm and saunter once more.

The resulting match was absolute chaos. Two tidal waves of overwhelming force collapsed into each other, and the Senators were filled with the need to avenge themselves by any means. Normally, the team was relatively good at avoiding penalties despite the ridiculous intensity of its players. But knowing the reputation of some of the Hapiloppians for violence on the field, the more aggressive Senators decided to fight fire with fire. The strength of sportsmen clashed with the strength of soldiers. Particularly noteworthy for their unwavering willingness to break through with force were Stripes and Asma. Deadman, of course, was the centre of attention, and though he did not pursue the same degree of excessive force he did not hesitate to trample the adversary underfoot in pursuit of the ball.

The consequence of such tactics was penalties. Unfortunately, Super Earth did not handle penalties well. Fisher deflected what goals the opposition sent in early, but there was only so much one man could do- and by the time of his replacement, two goals had already filtered in due to a scattered defence. Kicker and Briggs coordinated to keep an unusually defensive posture alongside Vigil, the group collectively holding back the storm of Hapiloppian assaults in the back half of the match. The latecoming rising star of the Senators was without a doubt Creeper, who had managed to salvage several of Super Earth's more questionable games- and this would be no exception. Though he scored no goals, he laid the groundwork for the only two the team could scrape together- one going to Buzz after extensive contention, and the other a manic dash by Longshot, who's abrupt and uncharacteristic decision to do something other than take sniper-range potshots between the posts caught even her own team off guard.

A 2-2 draw was the end result. Not a victory, not a defeat. Super Earth was sliding down the rankings, but it was still a tight group- and they still had a chance.

Oshaune - Mirin Sector

On the Bye, the Battle of Oshaune came to a glorious end.

Though there was some ambiguity in the estimates, a total of 270 million Helldivers had made the ultimate sacrifice in the past two months to secure the planet. Over ten billion of the ravenous, Gloom-mutated Terminids had been harvested in the process, from rodent-sized scavengers to the titanic Hive Lords that hollowed out the infested burrows and churned the planet's soil into sand. Celebrations and extraction operations were already in progress.

Fisher watched from orbit, granted an unusually lengthy twenty-minute reprieve to stare at his homeland. To watch its sickly glow in the virulent Gloom and wonder what better days the planet would see. Oshaune had been lush once, an island paradise of grassland and rocky shores. Perhaps someday those sights would be restored to it. He would not live to see it, of course. Victory or defeat in the sporting world, he was back to service the moment the freedomball tournament ended, and Helldivers did not live long lives beyond their volunteering.

He was almost grateful for that.

He wondered if he could make a bigger difference in places down there, than on foreign freedomball fields.

Snestar wins twice against Hapilopper and New Montreal States in spectacular shows: nine goals scored and seven conceded across two matches

Snestar is back into the qualification race, after winning both its matches in two highly entertaining showdowns. The Viola now sits in fourth place with 16 points, 4 points behind direct qualification, and 3 times behind the play-offs spot.

Hapilopper 4-5 Snestar: Match Summary

When the Viola stepped into the Nathan Ellis SuperStadium in Hapilopper City (quite the strange stadium: according to Snestaryan calendars, the venue had yet to be built)[/i], the Snestaryans lacked motivation to continue. They were about to face one of the strongest opponents in the group, and winning sounded like a titanic task. In the opening minutes of the match, though, the players tried their best to keep Hapilopper from scoring a goleada, but little did they know… they were about to score one as well. The opponents opened up the match thanks to an incredibly aggressive counterattack by Frank C. Pinto in the 18th minute, spooking Giulio Maritan and Alberto Migliaccio by winning the 2v1 and pointing straight towards Federico Calvaresi. However, Snestar immediately bounced back: following a long and elaborate set of passes, taking the highly offensive Hapiloppians off guard, Tero Sjölund went for a horizontal pass in front of the defense, which found Elisa Baldriga in position to score the equalizer in the 27th minute by sweeping the ball through the keeper’s legs. The rest of the first half continued with Snestar trying to maintain possession as much as possible, occasionally slipping up and allowing Hapilopper to make a few attempts. Moments before the referee’s whistle, Frank C. Pinto managed to steal the ball from the defense again, finding Federico Calvaresi unprepared once again and making the score 2-1 at halftime.

When the teams returned to the pitch, Camilla Arentas had made a daring substitution: Federico Calvaresi was replaced by Matteo Caprini, the second-choice goalkeeper, making his debut in the World Cup Qualifiers. Captaincy was then handed over to Vittorio Gallerani. The substitution seemed to ignite a spark in the Snestaryan defense: they had a “weaker” keeper in goal, so they needed to put in some extra work. In fact, the Viola’s players started to become more confident, with Martin de Roux eventually finding the equalizer in the 50th minute: a draw seemed possible now. And just eight minutes later, Giulio Maritan finally redeemed his terrible performance with an absolute screamer from just outside the box, the ball hovering above everyone’s heads and slipping through the Hapiloppian keeper. Still, the game was far from over: in the 61st minute, Zack Gardener immediately brought the balance back, making the score 3-3 and keeping fans of both teams at the edge of their seats. Refreshments from the Snestaryan bench seemed to change very little in the dynamics of the match at first, but then Arminia Cremisi started playing the game of her life, delivering a stunning dribble and trotting her way to the goal in the 75th minute. The win was practically inches away… But the Viola still had to suffer. In the 86th minute, Hapilopper equalized from a corner kick, finding David Chaney and being deviated in a way that was completely unreachable by Matteo Caprini… Both the Snestaryans players and fans thought the game was going to end in a draw after that rollercoaster of emotions. But then, two minutes after the 90-minute mark, the small Snestaryan crowd erupted in joy as a desperate counterattack by Elisa Baldriga ended up with a fast, slightly inaccurate curved shot ricocheting from the crossbar into the goal. Elisa immediately rushed to the Snestaryan ultras, taking off her shirt (thankfully she had a sports bra under it, to avoid flashing the entire stadium) and holding it high up in the air before being tackled by the entire Snestaryan team. A few minutes later, as soon as the triple whistle was blown, Camilla Arentas and the bench stormed into the stadium, screaming in joy. Despite only being a Qualifiers win, this match surely counted more than a World Cup final for the Viola.

New Montreal States 3-4 Snestar: Match Summary

Snestar, being completely fired up by the recent win against Hapilopper, entered the match against the New Montreal States with arrogance and pride. Riccardo Cavaliere came back from the small flu adventure, as well as many other players, and together they allowed Snestar to immediately get in control of the match. Despite an easily avoidable mistake by Federico Calvaresi in the 12th minute, causing Snestar to go down a goal in the opening quarter, Nicola Ragusa quickly allowed the Viola to bounce back in 24th minute, while Elisa Baldriga added another spectacular goal to her international career and got her team back in control. The first half went fairly smoothly. The second half was yet another thrilling series of events: New Montreal States’ Robert Est-Tonocole quickly equalized with a masterfully positioned curved ball, but Riccardo Cavaliere helped Snestar get back on track by escorting the ball from the Snestaryan goal line all the way to the other net, all by himself, with the kind of confidence that will get him the POTM. Martinelli completed the score for the Viola, while Younghusband gave the opponents a small moment of hope before the match inevitably ended with a 4-3 win for Snestar.

After the final whistle, we interviewed Camilla Aren't as to hear her thoughts on the match. She was obviously euphoric, knowing that Snestar still had a chance to qualify in what would be their debut World Cup.

“I went through five heart attacks in the last two matches. I mean, did you see the scorelines? This kind of stuff never happens in Snestaryan football... Sometimes Venistalya collects similar results, but a 5-4 followed by a 4-3 is an incredibly rare sight in Division Alpha. Either way, I'm obviously happy with these wins, but now it's time to focus on holding back Audioslavia and smashing Very totally free again. I'm confident that Snestar can at least secure a qualifying placement, and if we don't... I'm fairly certain that we'll at least get accepted into the Cup of Harmony.

Soviet Kem 1 - 1 Kandorith

By Bahav Xakin

A draw, I cannot exactly complain about Ken Stavisk's performance against Kandorith. He drew the team ranked 109th in the multiverse, he prevented their fluid, hyper-attacking style, meaning that maybe it only took time for the system to sink in. However, The Echo Grid, the first generation of players who will come through there will have to play a more attacking style, simply based on the known information of the program. Gligimesh's 56th minute goal was astonishing, as we stuck first, after a full half of either attacks being stopped or Zoinski making astonishing saves. With Kandorith's hyper-attacking style allowing them to clearly dominate the game, but Gligimesh took a wonderful opportunity, with Mori at the top of his box, due to the attacking form of Kandorith drawing him into a relaxed state, allowing for Gligimesh to score from midfield, finishing it in the top left corner. However, this caused Kandorith to awaken, causing Endo to execute excellent dibbling through the Soviet Kemrainan back line, ending in a goal in the 69th minute.

Soviet Kem 1 – 1 Shiverian Republics

By Stev Burlam

Allow me to first address one thing, I knew it, I bloody called it! My predictions came true! Anyway, my prediction was two close games, against both teams, even with Shiverian Republics' current form of extreme losses. To start, Ken Stavisk's slight defensive style has caused us draw against Kandorith, even with their attacking style. As for the game I have been tasked with writing a summary for, and a small opinion piece for some added insight by a journalist, such as myself. My colleague Bahav Xakin believes that we should have had a complete and utter victory over Shiverian Republics, and with him being overcome with anger, I was given this game as to not allow Bahav Xakin to rant about his views on Ken Stavisk.

As for the game, Shiverian Republics opened the scoring early with a 10th minute goal by an unknown player, who smashed it past Zoinski. With the restart of the game an endless battle for progression began, both teams not allowing any movement for the rest of the half. Once the second half started Gligimesh attempted to replicate his goal against Kandorith, with an imediate shot, but the keeper managed to catch the long shot. With the moral high due to the sudden shot, Nort pulled off an olimpico, the corner was from a deflected cross from a sudden run. At the end of the game, my colleague Bahav Xakin was on the floor of his house sobbing and letting out small rants about how Ken Stavisk has failed Soviet Kem, with him actually taking the first half of the day after off just to cope. He eventually came in today, and was the embodiment of anger, causing me to have the job to write this, and not him as usual, I was told this over by the water cooler, and I am including this just because I find this entertaining. I don't know if this will make it past editing, but if it does, Bahav, this is just friendly teasing, don't blow a fuse.

IS MERTAGNE COMING TO A TOWN NEAR YOU?
Grand Regent looking to solve a slew of regional problems using his standard toolkit - integration
For the second time in a decade, a Mertagnian Grand Regent finds themselves navigating a situation that seems rather at odds with their established political standpoints. Firstly, it was Malcolm Noirot, who, despite his staunch federalist views, understood the necessity of strong central state during the war against Bostopia, and took seemingly begrudging steps to consolidate power in the federal government, giving more power to the National Forum. Now, Linden Saloman, a career conservative and former Governor of rural Harridan province, has found himself tested by several movements that threaten to rock the boat of his administration's pledges to promote economic growth and stability while avoiding unnecessary foreign entanglements.

These issues have primarily come to Saloman in the form of national acquisitions. The first of these, the annexation of the Karodin Tetrarchy as Mertagne's tenth province, was met with reasonable approval from much of the electorate, who saw Saloman shine particularly during the negotiations in his role as Governor of bordering Harridan. Saloman's shrewd diplomacy and firm stance against Karodin's previous autocratic rulers won him praise from observers within and without the nation. This tended to overshadow the work that the Worker's Unions of Mertagne had performed, through former Grand Regent Brandon Hope, in beginning the negotiations at the request of the Tetrarchy. Several years on, and a change of government that saw Saloman elected Grand Regent later, the integration of the Tetrarchy into Mertagne has been largely successful, with the province's economy booming under Mertagnian investment and the establishment of democratic institutions while maintaining a semblance of autonomy. It hasn't come cheaply, however, with Saloman's administration having to commit significant funds to infrastructure projects and social programs in the province to bring these up to par with the rest of the nation. The Mertagnian Conservatives claimed that their hands were tied by the previous administration's commitments, but many in the party have expressed frustration at the cost of the annexation, which has put a strain on the national budget and limited the government's ability to invest in other areas, for little perceived gain to Mertagne as a whole. The autonomy of Karodin has also been a point of contention, with some conservatives arguing that the province should be more tightly integrated into the national framework to ensure uniformity in governance and economic policy. Saloman has currently done well to quell these dissenting voices within his party, but coalition partners in the Unified Mertagne Party have expressed concerns about the long-term implications of such a hands-off approach to provincial governance, and have called for much closer integration of Karodin into the national system.

The second acquisition is a ticking time bomb for which successive governments have been hoping they wouldn't have to deal with during their tenure, but one which Saloman has found himself forced to confront head on - the question regarding the Euran Oceania Territories. In the wake of growing instability in the region, Bastion - Eura's capital - has finally come forward to discuss the issue with a mere 9 years left in their lease, and is seeking to negotiate with the Mertagnian government over the future of the territory. Acutely tuned geopolitical pundits have sensed the opportunity that Bastion is seeking to capialise on by forcing negotiations at present, as many believe that Saloman is keen to avoid a protracted dispute over the territory, which could prove unpopular in the eyes of the electorate given the current economic climate, which is looking increasingly grim off the back of the Euran debt crisis and the implosion of Krytenian banking magnate Jordans. There is a certain level of fatigue in the Mertagnian financial sector as of late, with many claiming that the nation is becoming overreliant on foriegn investments and entanglements, and that the government should be focusing on domestic issues rather than overseas ones. Saloman, when pitched this viewpoint in a radio interview last week, appeared to agree, but hit back by claiming that his party was looking after the national bank account by 'investing in the future growth of the nation` and that by aligning territories closer with Mertagnian interests, the government was ensuring that the nation had access to resources, security, and strategic locations that would benefit the country, and the stability of northern Calania as a whole in the long term.

Of course, everyone is looking south to determine if Saloman believes that, with his territorial acquisition hammer, the instability in Krytenia is looking rather like a nail. The aforementioned Jordans collapse has been instrumental in forcing a bedrock level change in the Krytenian government and economy, and this combined with the flight of the Krytenian royal family has had many wondering if the cyan nation is on the brink of collapse. While the Grand Regent has said nothing of note publicly on the matter, delegates sent to a series of high-profile ACORN meetings in the wake of the event have revealed that some sort of financial stability package is on the table at a state level for a selection of Krytenian provinces in the north of the country, which border Mertagne and have strong economic ties to the nation. Krytenia's neighbours in Mertagne and Bostopia are equally keen to avoid a full-scale collapse of the Krytenian state, given the potential for an unstainable influx of economic migrants and refugees into their own borders, compounded by Mertagne's free trade agreement with Krytenia through ACORN. While Bostopia have looked to consolidate power quickly in a typically Bostopian manner in southern Krytenia by assigning an unelected Governor to the territories, Mertagne's approach to the northern states appears to be more federated and free, with the Mertagnian government currently looking to delegate funds to Krytenian states on a state-by-state basis, with a focus on the immediate border states to create an economic buffer zone in the interim. Critics of the approach claim that Saloman, perhaps influenced by his previous approach to Karodinian integration, is being too hands-off in his approach to the crisis, and that a more centralised approach to governance is needed to ensure stability in the region. The situation is unfolding by the day, however, and many are watching the Calanian continent with a critical eye to determine how yet another crisis will be handled by a Mertagnian leadership that seems, at least within the last decade, to be constantly tested by foreign entanglements. In decades past, many assumed that the regional heavyweights such as Startblaydia and Krytenia would be the ones to lead the way in stabilising Calania, but with both nations currently embroiled in their own internal strife, it seems that Mertagne is once again being bedgrudginly thrust into the spotlight as a key player in the landmass's future.

Live from Utopiatopia is the World Cup report
and the last match was frickin boring. We tied like 0-0. Here to speak is NotJustBry4 (Bry).

Reporter: How was Matchday 9?

Bry: We tied Ko-orenite Constellation in a scoreless game. That defense must have worked pretty good. I think we made a great strategy change! How about you?

Reporter: But, a tie is not a win, and you are still in danger of elimination from contention of the World Cup.

Bry: But look on the bright side! We get one point instead of 0, and they get one point instead of 3!

Reporter: Okay, so who do you play next.

Bry: We have entered Revengetown. We play at Archalit tomorrow.

Reporter. Hope you win.

Bry: Will do!

Valiant win at Archalit By BuurmanTenus and ChristianoRonaldo

United States of Alpha 5, Archalit 2

The Alphanians valiantly defeated the RPless Archlitians 5 goals to 2, despite being more on defense. The team is now celebrating at the wings place where their energy started, and watched the discount bar go up to 44% off (By The Way, you should come there. It's got the best sports, best wings, best ice cream brownies, best sides, all the jibs. To order your perfect gameday meal, go to nsw.wingingit.com). It was a national record for most goals scored in an international soccer tournament game. This is a great day for the Alphanians.

The soccer team continues its journey into "Vengeance Town", as NotJustBry4 called it (he "tweaked it so it rolls off the tongue better") against Dantopia (3rd place) and Chromatika (first place) on Matchdays 11 and 12. Can they stay in the running for that sweet World Cup ticket? We'll just have to wait and see.

(P.S. Use code Buur if you want United States of Alpha to make the world cup)

Antti had been carefully rubbing his sore wrists before entering the meeting room but quickly used his hands to shield his eyes. The fluorescent white light stood in stark contrast to the dimmed bulbs that had ‘decorated’ his housing for the last few weeks. So far, no one had been able, or willing, to tell him where exactly he was but from what he could tell, he still was incarcerated somewhere within Anewkansas. From a physical viewpoint, he had not been tortured: apart from the handcuffs, they had not laid a finger on him. But the continuous loop of close confinement, exhausting interviews and sleepless nights (in as far as one could still trust their biological clock to determine the difference between night and day) had rendered him into a mess. It was only when he saw the man across the table, with his spotless suit, horn-rimmed glasses and expensive designer watch, that he realized how bewildered he probably looked. They used to mock Antti that he didn’t need shaving, but now the stubble had given way to plucky patches of beard. The meeting room had kept itself to the bare necessities to merit that name: a table and two chairs, all from the same uncomfortable metallic material and bolted to the floor, made the complete inventory. A small gesture from the guard made clear that he was allowed to sit. Antti could feel the cold metal through his wafer-thin prison garments. He stared into the roomwide mirror to his right, contemplating whether waving to it would be too preposterous for the situation. After clearing his throat, the other one introduced himself.

“My name is Brook Finley and I will be your attorney for this case, mister Pesonen.”

Finley said it in a flat voice which made it impossible to detect an accent. Antti knew better than to ask him why he had become his lawyer. Judged by the exquisite blazer, Finley could not be afforded by his parents, so he probably was the one assigned to him. The youthful haircut confirmed that he came fresh out of school and still had to pay his dues, taking on pro bono cases. In theory, as a yellow permit worker, his employer was obliged to provide such an attorney for him but as Antti had committed his crime on a co-worker, there was little chance that Finley had graduated top of his class.

“What day is it?”
“The fourteenth.”

Only two days off to his own count and Antti was not entirely sure whether that was a success or not. Across from him, Finley was leafing through a file and from the looks of it, some parts were entirely new to him. As Antti had no clue how much time he had with the lawyer (and because solitary confinement makes you crave for human contact, even if it comes from a total stranger), he tried to initiate the conversation.

“What does it look like?”
“Not great.”
“When will the case be brought?”
“Soon.”
“How will we-”

Finley stopped him in his tracks with a simple hand gesture. In a frustrating silence, he went on moving back and forward in the thick bundle before suddenly closing it with a hard ‘bang’.

“So, that’s crystal clear.”
“What… What do you mean?”
“You have committed an obvious violation of title twelve, section four of your work permit agreement. Physical violence to an Anewkansan citizen, with the intent of murder, that is…”
“Oh, wow, wow, hang on a second! I’ve never had that intention! I ha-”
“May I request, mister Pesonen, that you lower your voice?”

The sideways glance from Finley to the mirror made Antti wonder for a second whether this was just a very fucked up interrogation technique, but he did as was told.

“Sorry. All I wanted to underline is that I had no intention of murder at all. It was just a punch. Just a punch…”
“Have you, or have you not, punched mister Seamus Wilson in the face with a gloved fist outside of the Merx sawmill, subsidiary of BlackWood Industries Incorporated?”
“Yes, but…”
“In such a manner that mister Wilson, known to have a frail health, got pushed against a window sill, leading to a dangerous and potentially life-threatening bleeding?”
“I didn’t know that window was th-”
“Yes or no?”
“Well, yes, but…”
“And did you, when doing so, exclaim that you would, and I cite, ‘destroy the motherfucker’?”
“I… I don’t remember saying that.”
“We have three witnesses who claim you do.”
“I… I don’t think I did that.”

For a second, Finley moved to one of the backpages and then returned his glazy glance to Antti. In a way, it felt as if he was looking at an animal, one that both marvelled and repulsed him.

“They’re credible witnesses, so amnesia will not help.”
“I guess, in that case.”
“So yes, it looks like you have committed an obvious violation of title twelve, section four of your work permit agreement. As I had established before.”
“And that’s…”
“Expulsion.”
“Ex…”
“Expulsion. Do you have any further questions?”

Antti bowed his head and tried to fight away the tears. That was it? And expulsion to where? Antti barely dared to ask it. It had been over ten years since his father, his mother and four siblings had left the shores of their homeland. If anything, they had been booted out: no one had stapled a return ticket to their papers. Father had always left it in the dark how the place had been, but from the increasingly vague memories, Antti knew that little quality of life awaited him there. And that was even aside from the fact that father always insisted that they had to build a life here, in Anewkansas. Only when being locked up here, Antti had realized the implied burned bridges. There were stories galore of people who had joined the migration over open debts and unsettled scores, there was no reason why his family wouldn’t have any of those.

And so, Antti had tried exactly that. In the footsteps of his siblings, he had attempted to carve out his own life here. The problem was that he had been far less prolific in it. The eldest, Hilla, had done excellent in school and made her way into the study bureau that planned the plantation flows for BlackWood Industries. From early on, it became clear that Antti would not go down that road: only the mercy of his teachers had allowed him to complete the twelfth grade. Not that they were that fond of him. He lacked the industriousness of his sister Marja, who had turned a weekend job into a decently paid (and far less exhausting) gig in the local shopping hall. But his grand example had always been Jouko. As his brother did, so did Antti, so he got himself a pair of football gloves and joined BlackWood Industries City. While Jouko gradually made his way into the first team, Antti got thanked for his services at seventeen. It was the worst day of his life. Well, until a few weeks back, anyway.

After parting ways with the Timbers, as the nickname of the club spells, he spent a year or two playing for smaller local teams but the joy quickly disappeared. There are only that many times that you can hear whether ‘you are family of BlackWood’s Pesonen’ and ‘why you’re so much more shit than your brother’. From that point on, life had been circling around working his butt off in the sawmill, wasting time on the street and finding the cheapest way to stay up to date about everything relating to football.

Football.

Despite it all, despite the frustrations of his own career, it was his lifeline. The only decent talk he had had over his time in this institute had been with that one guard that could not resist a chat about the world’s most important side issue. The poor fellow probably had had a stern talking to (or more) over informing Antti about the victory against Francanada and the hard-fought draw against United Adaikes, but it was all worth it. Antti could not say what day of the week it was, but by puzzling the results together, he had the exact table of group twelve in his head. Only nine goals against in seven games for Jouko, that’s not too bad. So obviously, Antti only had one question left.

“How are the Turtles doing?”
“It depends on how I look at it.”
“What do you mean?”
“As a fan or as your lawyer.”
“How… How are they doing as a fan?”
“Splendid, actually. Last week they managed to beat Dhemixia…”
“... Holy crap.”
“Holy crap indeed. I didn’t think Trevor Augustus had it in him but he pulled the old trick on McMahon. A seething opening period with a goal from Pershing Major, then slowly starting to scramble back and hold on to the wall. The Serpents had ten shots on goal in the second half but with St. Julie’s Den behind them, the Turtles somehow pulled through. With it, there is a six-point gap for second place. It’s far from in the pocket, but the system works. Against the Miniona Islands, it took forty minutes to score but yeah. Merrick headed in a corner and after that, it was just punching on the counterattack and denying them any space. Rivers got carded, so he’s out for the next game, but it might be a good game for Jaffrenou to make his debut. Two goals, six points, full marks.”

It was bizarre that Antti smiled and he knew it as well. This was the country that was about to kick him out that he was rooting for, but it was stronger than himself. Two clean sheets for Jouko, beautiful. Antti had barely noticed that Brook Finley had gathered his material and was stepping out the door, but he could stop him just in time.

“And… as my lawyer?”
“Sorry?”
“You said that you could look at the results of the Turtles as a fan or as my lawyer?”
“Well… That’s not good.”
“What? I mean, Jouko is doing great, isn’t the country at least like… Thankful?”
“After the last game, he lifted his shirt to the cameras, revealing a ‘FREE ANTTI’ tshirt.”
“Oh…”

Brook nodded.

“Oh, indeed. It did not go down well. Apparently, the population, or at least the AFA, is not ready yet for a ‘permitted’ who thinks he can meddle in domestic, judicial affairs. Rightfully so, if I can say between brackets. He has been suspended for the time being by the association and Powell will be starting against the Liberationists.”
“Shit.”
“For the Turtles, well, we’ll see. The Liberationists haven't scored that easily since their opening win. For you, well, shit indeed.”
“How… How come?”
“As you are, in all honesty, a lost cause, I had planned to focus on keeping your family out of the picture. Antti, he’s the estranged son, look at how well the others are adjusted, they barely are in touch anymore, blah-blah-blah, he’s the black sheep, they’ve cut him off, yadda-yadda-yadda. My whole plea to at least keep your family in the country was centred on singling you out and showing that they’ve chosen the righteous path. But now your brother has hooked himself up to you and well, that will be hard to defend. Things look awry for him and your parents, to be honest.”
“Shit.”
“As I had established before, shit indeed.”

OOC Note to hosts and other readers: The following is a Map of Banija, Abahamba, and the Busoga Islands. Most of the credit goes to Tumbra. All three are ICly firmly independent countries, with historic ties to Banija- OOCly, all three of them are ran by the same user. Abahamba will be a large focus of this tournament for me, but as they are not in this tournament(for IC reasons that'll come out in due time), the RPing will be done mostly via Busoga and Banija. Abahamban perspectives will come from both nations.

Part 1: Intro to Abahamba
Part 2: A new Ambassador
Part 3: Robel takes a phone call
Part 4: Rumors Hit the Internet
Part 5: A Reçecian wonders (written by Recuecn)
Part 6: Thuku goes public
Banija, Part 7: Ezera's Denial
Reçueçn, Part 8: Thorvex takes charge

WCC Vice President Robel Ezera, and his brother Victor Ezera, sitting in his office after receiving a request for documents from Thorvex

Things had been going from bad to worse for Robel. The appointment of an investigator was pretty bad, on its own. And the RBSA asking him, quietly, not to attend Banija's home qualifiers over the MD9 & MD10 window, was a huge disappointment. He understood it, for the reason that he held the job for 3.5 decades. The Banijan Royal family was attending the game- and inviting the Pasargan Crown Prince as their guest of honor. He was going to be rubbing shoulders with quite a few people, and the royal family wanted to avoid all controversy, considering the scandal was now in the open. Couldn't have the Crown Prince put in a position like that- that would shatter relations when they were trying to cultivate ties between the Pasargan and Banijan royal families. That, of course, was kept quiet- very few people would know he had an invitation in the first place.

But still- Ezera had planned for that. And so he had decided he'd avoid being in Banija altogether during the Crown Prince's visit- and remain here. Probably for the best- fighting these charges, while continuing his day job, would require his full attention. Which is why his brother was now here, in Zube, being retained by Robel. He needed to clear his own name.

"Victor, thank you so much for coming here today." He told his brother. "Look- we need to fight these charges. The WCC making a riff over these freaking Abahambans man, it's absolutely insane. Get these charges off and my name cleared, so I can get back to my regular duties."

"Robel... It isn't so easy." Victor told him. "She asked for a request of docs. You've got an order to comply. Let me seep through this..." And he read, and re-read, and re-read the letter again- just like lawyers tend to do. As his lawyer, he thought for a few minutes. "Look- she wants emails and IM logs. Are those fine?"

"Hmmmmmm." Robel thought about it for a second. What had he sent that would be directly incriminating? "I mean, I definitely spoke in person to those under me about my concerns, and how they were legitimate- and I asked them directly to ensure that Abahamba had the proper docs."

"How'd you ask- over IM? Any emails?"

"Well...." Robel responded. Didn't really answer the question. Victor frowned. It was hard to defend a man who was looking more and more to be guilty.

"Ok, we're gonna try and bury Madame Thorvex in emails. We're gonna print every single email, and every single IM that you've ever sent via the company's servers. A stack of paperwork so high, she'll regret ever taking the role." He chuckled, a little bit sadly.

"Doesn't AI exist to kinda pore through the stuff though? Can you do that in the modern age?"

"Oh, I'll be there to make sure they look through everything in person." Victor said.

"Oh- and what about my texts?" Robel asked.

"Uhh....." Victor started to respond. "We'll set up a meeting- they'll look through your phone, in person. Not like we can print these messages anyways."

Ottilie Thorvex
WCC Ethics Committee Special Investigation Chief
Zube, Kytler Peninsulae

Ms. Thorvex,

It is a pleasure to be able to start dealing with this head on. I am representing my brother in this situation- and we are looking to support his innocence. That's why we are going above and beyond- I will have my people, in the morning, deliver a big stack of documents- every single email he's ever sent with the WCC, every single IM he's sent with the WCC. All of his server logs. The Vice President is an upstanding man, and he has no problem being rigorous.

As for his phone, printing text messages and what not are fairly complicated. We propose that he turns over his phone during an in-person meeting- one that can be as long as you want, but that you get to pore through his phone while he is in the room. This is not an attempt at deception- but as you understand, he's the VP of the WCC during the 100th edition of the World Cup. He is, in fact, quite a busy man.SO going phoneless overnight would interfere with his ability to go about his day job.

We look forward to meeting you as soon as possible.

From,

Victor Ezera

Banijan winger Odongo Kagenda, in the 67th minute of Banija's game against Reçueçn

Kagenda had entered the game 10 minutes ago. He looked around- suddenly, of course, he was the grizzled veteran on the team. A man with a unique vantage point- the active leader in caps. He was the last standing member of Banija's World Cup 94 winning team who was still playing for the national team. So when he retired, it would truly be the end of an era- Banija would be fielding players who have never had the experience of winning a World Cup. In this moment, sometimes, you need to have clutch players, who were built for the biggest moments. Kagenda had proven it time and time again playing for the national team, and Trischuk had shone faith in him in big moments repeatedly. So why not this one?

It was the second half of a critical World Cup Qualifier, and it was still 0-0. Reçueçn were an extremely difficult team to try and break down- having conceded just once in their first 7 matches, and that was during a 7-1 romping victory, they had showcased one of the best defenses of this qualifier. And yet, with the way that the qualifying schedule was set up, and the ambitious goals of the Banijans (winning the group, qualifying directly), that had turned this home match into basically a must win for the Kadongo Kamu. That away draw on MD8 against a piss poor Libonesia might come back to bite the Banijans in the ass, but the Banijans were determined to make sure it would be a blip that was quickly forgotten- as opposed to the critical result that forced the Banijans into a winner-take-all playoff.

A draw would leave them behind pace, with all of Banija's toughest away games ahead of them. A loss would be a 5 alarm fire- probably, considering the pace that Reçueçn had set so far in this group, almost certainly doom them to the playoff. So the team was getting more and more aggressive- risk-taking, trying to find the goal. Trischuk had given very particular instructions to Kagenda when he entered the pitch for Wentibwa. "Look Odongo, you need to just ensure that we are continuing to cause havoc among their back line." Trischuk told him. "The tension's building, and even a defense as good as this one is capable of a mistake. We've got to pull them apart, ensuring that they can't close down spaces and defend in numbers. If we're creating opportunities, good things can happen."

And so in the 67th minute, when the Banijans had the ball in the attacking third, Kagenda was trying to figure out where to put himself on the pitch. He floated in towards the center of the pitch- Banda passed it to his feet. About 10 yards away from the 18. Head up, he looked right, and found his right back overlapping. He passed it off- and sprinted forward, asking for the ball back. The defender, caught a bit off guard, was slow to follow- and Kagenda stepped into space with the ball. The crowd all breathed together, sensing it was Banija's best chance of the day- and he slotted home perfectly, low and powerful towards the bottom far side corner. Absolutely nothing a sprawling Gerauld Firaut, their star keeper, could do about it.

"COME ON!!!" Kagenda yelled as the national stadium exploded into celebration. He wheeled away towards the corner flag, the veteran sliding on his knees as the bench mobbed him. As he got up, he was celebrating. "LET"S GO!" He was yelling, as the fans were celebrating wildly. When he was finally pulled out from the bottom of the pile, his manager fist bumped him. Walking back to the center line, he pointed towards the Royals box and clapped- straight at the Pasargan Crown Prince, who was there with Omugaba Umajaa, Gusti Lullaba, and the Omukama- among other Royals. Still 22 minutes plus stoppage left- but the Banijans had their 1-0 lead. It was Reçueçn's first time playing from behind during the entire campaign. A tough position to be in, on the road, in this environment, against this team- and it was to be Banija's day. The goal was enough- Kagenda was the hero.

After the game, he spoke to the media. "A great game, a great game indeed." He told reporters. "This group, one way or another, is coming down to the final matchday- we're very evenly matched with one another. They beat us at the World Cup, so nice to get a bit of revenge in Qualifying. Still, we're only halfway through- we've got plenty of qualifiers to go. Thanks to the fans for the support, from across society. Even the royal family in attendance, with their foreign dignitary in town! Hope it was a good match to watch!"

Always a good match when your team gets 3 points, eh?

(NOTE: The following is a transcript of a phone call between Brett Booth, the President of Hapilopper, and James Conway, a high school friend from their days in high school.)

BOOTH: Hello, this is Brett.
CONWAY: Hey, Brett? This is Jim Conway.
BOOTH: Hey Jim, how’s it going?
CONWAY: Not too good, I need to speak to you about something in confidence.
BOOTH: What is it?
CONWAY: I had some people come by my business today snooping for information. I think they was looking for some dirt on you. Some investigative creep types.
BOOTH: What kind of investigative creep types? Did they say who they were?
CONWAY: No, these were guys in suits and ties, they came by looking like they were conducting an investigation on something concerning you.
BOOTH: What?
CONWAY: Some kind of investigation. I asked some guy who his name was and he was like, ‘I’m with the Hapiloppian government and we’re conducting an investigation concerning Brett Booth.’ They didn’t say who their name was.
BOOTH: No ID or anything?
CONWAY: None.
BOOTH: Shit. What’d you tell ‘em?
CONWAY: I told ‘em I can’t tell ‘em anything unless they say who they were. I asked them to leave.
BOOTH: Aight.
CONWAY: They were also asking about Tammy. You heard from her lately?
BOOTH: (sighs) I haven’t spoken to Tammy in years. Not since I got married.
CONWAY: They were saying they needed to speak to her and they demanded I get her contact info.
BOOTH: Aight, what about it?
CONWAY: I don’t have it. I’m not going to stooge someone off. I spoke to her a couple years ago last but I’m not going to put the feds on her. Whatever happened between you guys that these creeps want to talk to her for, anyway?
BOOTH: I don’t know. I don’t fuckin’ know. But this sounds like someone’s trying to nail me to something. Any of these guys say they were with the Conservatives?
CONWAY: They didn’t identify themselves for anything. Nothing.
BOOTH: Well, this feels like they’re going on some witch hunt. Honest to God, Jimmy, this sounds like a witch hunt. They’re trying to find some bullshit excuse to get me removed from office. Thanks for telling me.
CONWAY: Sure. I just feel… you know…
BOOTH: Yeah.
CONWAY: I just feel like they’re digging for dirt here.
BOOTH: Yeah. Part of me wants to call Baxter and raise hell with him. I don’t think he’ll take my calls though.
CONWAY: You sure you want to call him?
BOOTH: I don’t know. I feel like if I leave a voice mail, he’s going to use that in whatever ad he puts on TV. We don’t need that shit.
CONWAY: Sure. Just wanted to let you know.
BOOTH: Thanks, man.

(NOTE: The following is a transcript of a phone call between Tom Baxter, the leader of the Conservative Party of Hapilopper and Billy Sheridan, a Conservative Party operative working in the Buckridge area.)

BAXTER: Yeah?
SHERIDAN: I visited, uh, Jim Conway’s office today, he stonewalled me.
BAXTER: What happened?
SHERIDAN: I told him I was with the Hapiloppian government and we were investigating Brett Booth. He got mad and said he wasn’t saying anything.
BAXTER: How did you approach it?
SHERIDAN: I told him we were investigating Booth and we needed him to provide information.
BAXTER: Not the way you do it. You’ve got to be casual about it, act like a friend, find something where he’s at… you got to get his guard down. You can’t just go all gung-ho about it.
SHERIDAN: I did find out about an ex-girlfriend of his.
BAXTER: That’s good.
SHERIDAN: Her name is Tammy Jones. I looked her up on social media, she’s beautiful. I think she’s single too. I might try to match with her on an online dating site and try to hook up with her.
BAXTER: That’s an idea. Go out with her and get dirt?
SHERIDAN: Sure. Women are willing to talk. They’ll be willing to bury their exes.
BAXTER: What’s your cover story?
SHERIDAN: I’m a high-powered political lobbyist that works with billions of dollars in contract dollars.
BAXTER: No, that’s not good enough. Say you’re a day trader that made $20 million last year. If you need proof of it, we can make it up.
SHERIDAN: Think she’ll buy it?
BAXTER: Sure. Women will buy anything if you look good enough and have enough money. I think this might work, Bill.
SHERIDAN: Yeah?
BAXTER: Yeah. Not a word of this gets out, keep that in mind. You blab about this to anyone, even your own family, and I’ll take your head off. You got me?
SHERIDAN: Sure.
BAXTER: I want you to get some kind of recording device. Something small and low-profile. That way it doesn’t stick out. Record your interactions with her. Even if you get lucky with her.
SHERIDAN: Uh…
BAXTER: What?
SHERIDAN: Even if…?
BAXTER: Yeah. She might say something then. You record everything. And if she says something about Booth, we’re going to use it. We’re a one-party state. We can audio record people without them knowing.
SHERIDAN: Alright.
BAXTER: Listen to me, Bill. We talked about ratfucking the other day, right? We need to find a way to turn the opinion towards us and against Booth. Get this done and report back to me.
SHERIDAN: What if she says no?
BAXTER: That’s not my problem, Bill, that’s yours.
-Hap.

Meris - Nova Calania suffered their first loss of the qualifications, against Zenic, on matchday 10. But before the match against Zenic, the Tapirs travelled to Meris to play against this nation. Mei Qi Xiong and Charlotte Gibouleau-Beaudoin joined forces at the 16th minute to give Nova Calania a 1-0 lead. Charlotte Gibouleau-Beaudoin made a short pass to Rodrigo Guénette-Velazquez, at the 36th minute, who kicks the ball and it's a goal. Neither teams scored in the 2nd half and the final score was 2-0 Nova Calania.

Manacus, Zenic - The long awaited rematch between Nova Calania and Zenic! Nova Calania had many chances to take the lead early into the game but they couldn't capitalize. The score was 0-0 at halftime. That game was really boring and I slept in the press box. When I woke up, the score was already 1-0 Zenic and this is the final score.

Nova Calania is still first in the standings with 22 points in 9 matches but Zenic is catching up with 19 point in 9 matches. Bonusia follows with 17 points, also in 9 matches. The 2nd half of the qualifications will be very exciting and all three teams have a shot for the 1st place. On week 11, Nova Calania will receive Moladea at National Sports Complex in Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer while Zenic will travel to Bears Armed and Bonusia will receive Porotia. On matchday 12, the Tapirs will travel to Porotia while Zenic will recieve The Lake Isle of Innisfree and Bonisia will have a bye.

National Day / Anaia Day Upcoming Celebrations

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer - Coincidentally with week 13's home match against Bonusia in mid-may, we will have our National Day and Anaia Day celebrations. During the day, we will have military parades in both Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer and Ostrow Krolewski to show Anaia our so-called military superiority and forget the fact that we would lose a war against either Mertagne or Bostopia. Let's not forget our hot dog (with tapir meat sausages) eating contests and, in the evening, not so famous bands will take the stage in every cities over 25,000 inhabitants and Nova Calanians will have an excuse to get drunk in public. Meanwhile in Burnham-on-Stove, we will have antifa counter demonstrations against National Day and Anaia Day. They are saying we're all citizens of the multiverse and only the fascists celebrates Nova Calania Day and Anaia Day.

Foster Heads Home And Lions Roar On
Dantopia Narrowly Defeat Hosts Abanhfleft In Tight Affair
By SAUL ARNSTEIN

RIUWIEE, ABANHFLEFLT — Dantopia recorded a crucial away win last night against Abanhfleft, thanks to a second half Keegan Foster header. The win keeps the Lions in the race for one of the two highly coveted qualification spots from Group 9, but much work is still left to be done, namely with another game on the road to play against Dēmos following this result.

Image
Jeremiah Jackson Jr.
The match almost started perfectly for the Dantopians, after Will Fodderingham had threaded a grass-cutting through ball between the opposition defenders to Jeremiah Jackson Jr. at the far post in the 12th minute — the Lion City FC forward launched his effort over the bar, unable to cushion and control the ferocity at which the ball had been delivered to him. However, seven minutes later, it was the turn of the hosts to start knocking on the door. One of Abanhfleft's defenders had marauded forwards into the box and when a ball came into the centre-back from out wide, he let it ricochet off his foot and into the back of the net — Alex Bullvale and the Dantopian back line in shock at the situation. Fortunately for them, the offside flag was called, and the goal was chalked off.

The first half of the match also saw a long range effort from Raphael Lacroix hit the outside of the post, and a saved effort from Fodderingham parried into the path of Ezra Cunningham, who couldn't hit the mark. In the second half the hosts were denied a penalty by the virtual assistant referee, after it had been initially called on the field. A Fleftic forward had waltzed passed the Lions' defence, and goalkeeper Alex Bullvale had closed down the striker. Following replays, it was judged that Bullvale had clearly poked at the ball first, and in fact had not even touch the opposition attacker at all.

Image
Keegan Foster
Rick Bishop's side were lacking any clinical edge to their play in the second half, so the manager opted to make changes. Johnny Kealoha replaced Ezra Cunningham; Nico Hollins came on for Adebayo Adeyemi; Zeke Edwards was given minutes in place of Bradini Brunson; and Maverick Johnson rotated in for Jeremiah Jackson Jr. It was second half substitute Kealoha who was able to make an impact on the pitch. Following the second phase from a corner kick, Kealoha played a teasing cross into the box for Keegan Foster at the back post. The Miruan City defender was able to absolutely hammer the ball home with his dome. 1-0 to Dantopia, and now something for Rick Bishop's men to defend with their lives.

Image
Alex Bullvale
A final change was made for the Lions, as Ash Morgan came on for Raphael Lacroix. The shape of the team had shifted to a 3-4-3 or 5-2-3 depending on how one views it. Hollins was now a makeshift right wing back, with Kahananui operating on the left — the three centre backs behind them, with two central midfielders in Kealoha and Spaghetti, and three forwards with Johnson, Edwards and Fodderingham. The Great Wall was being constructed again by Rick Bishop in effort to close out the game, just as he had attempted — and failed — against Chromatika. This time, however, the result went his way, and the way of the travelling Lions. They successfully made it over the line and set their sights on the next match.

"This was a major win for us tonight..." remarked Bullvale, who was interviewed after the game. "Another positive result against Dēmos, and we become the masters of our own fate headed into the back stretch of games in the group..." Bullvale's third clean sheet in this cycle's qualification stage was sorely needed by the Lions, who have been shipping a few goals too many. Of their challengers in Group 9, the Lions have the worst goal difference of sides in the top half, meaning that in the event they are tied on points with another team at the end of the qualifying games, they are likely to lose out on favourable positioning due to goal difference. "We focus ahead now on the next game..." manager Rick Bishop opined "We have to stick together, and keep the faith. We can do this, we have the quality, no matter what the pundits or the world rankings say. We are the masters of our own destiny."

Dantopia Seal Second Straight Away Victory
Lions Score Four Past Hosts Dēmos, With Unlikely Qualification For World Cup Still In Sight
By SAUL ARNSTEIN

Half Time: 1-2

Valentinos 90+5'Danchevy 74'
DĒMOS — The Dantopian National Team took another crucial step towards qualification with a second consecutive away victory against Dēmos, though just like the first encounter with Alexi Papadopoulos' side, it was a hard-fought affair — with just one goal separating the sides once again. Despite a late rally by the hosts, the Lions were able to hold onto the lead they had created for themselves and inch ever closer to the top two qualification spots in Group 9, though still outside the top two as things stand.

Image
Johnny Kealoha
An early miss-kick from Alex Bullvale saw the Dēmosians win the ball back high, and turn the screw immediately — Theodosis Alanoglou converting at point blank range following a cross from Valentinos Ganilis. The sloppy error from Bullvale had instantly cost the team and ensured that a fourth clean sheet was certainly not on the cards in this match. However, the Dantopians were able get one back thirteen minutes later following a long throw on the right hand side of the pitch. Will Cross' launched ball into the box wasn't successfully cleared away, and after it had bounced, Johnny Kealoha was the first to respond to the situation, thunderously volleying one home from close range. The keeper managed to get a finger-tip to the ball, but only after it had already crossed the line, and the ball still hit the back of the net all the same.

Image
Bradini Brunson
Then it was the turn of the Dantopians to pile on the pressure, as six minutes after their equaliser, a whipped ball in from the precocious young wing-back Kaleb Kahananui was met in the air beautifully by Bradini Brunson. 2-1 to Dantopia now, and still another 12 minutes of the first half to play, as well as all of the second. It wasn't until the latter half of the second period before another goal was scored, however. Brunson was again on the scoresheet, this time following a ball crossed in by Johnny Kealoha — who could now add an assist to his first half goal.

Image
Michael Danchevy
Kealoha was quick to double his assist efforts, as four minutes after the Lions had made it 3-1, they were making it 4-1 through captain Michael Danchevy. The counter-attack through the centre of the pitch following a Dēmosian corner was swift and clinical. Kealoha's trivela pass was truly something out of this world, and Danchevy's expert and composed finish the sublime cherry on top of a magnificent Dantopian fast break. The scoreline didn't necessarily reflect the evenness at which the game had been played at — the hosts had fifty-three percent of the possession to the Lions' forty-seven, and Dēmos also recorded fourteen shots (five on target) compared to Dantopia's twelve (six on target). The difference in the stats came in the expected goals column — with the visitors recording 2.57 compared to the Dēmosian's own 1.5 xG.

Bishop closed ranks again and opted for a more defensive structure following the fourth goal. Kaleb Kahananui was substituted off for Dwight Krol — who was being extra careful not to slip when defending crosses after he came on. Nico Hollins and Maverick Johnson replaced Adeyemi and Danchevy. Kai Watanabe swapped in for Ezra Cunningham, and Dani Spaghetti came on for Johnny Kealoha.

The flat 4-5-1 block Rick Bishop had constructed attempted to stifle the hosts, but competitive balance was restored late in the second half through two brilliant efforts from Dēmos' wide men. David Angelicus was able to cut inside and strike the ball with his instep into the top corner at the far post, way beyond the outstretched arms of Alex Bullvale in net. Then, in the final death of the game, Valentinos Ganilis was able to mirror that same exact goal on the opposite side of the pitch. The Dēmosians were quick to collect the ball to restart the match as swiftly and efficiently as possible, but the referee blew her whistle after the allotted six minutes of added time, and the Lions had roared on to another impressive victory on the road.

The win sees Dantopia sitting pretty in third in Group 9, only narrowly behind The Ko-orenite Constellation on goal difference. It will be tough to dislodge Chromatika from the top spot in the table — they are five points ahead and have won seven of their nine encounters — but the Lions are certainly in the running for the second qualification spot, alongside the Constellationians. Just behind on thirteen and twelve points sit Abanhfleft and Dēmos — both with superior goal difference to Dantopia — so they will also like their odds of qualifying. With only half the number of games played so far, it may yet be anyone's spot to secure.

The Lions play host to the United States Of Alpha at Bank of Dantopia Stadium in Dartford, and Rick Bishop's side will be looking to markedly improve on their previous game against the Alphanians — the 0-3 rout definitely not being Dantopia's best showing. It will be interesting to see if the national team perform the takakoa once again in pre-match, after they did so against Chromatika in match-day eight. Following the game against United States Of Alpha, Dantopia will be away once again, this time to Whispinia in match-day twelve.

Dimensions are the same on every field.
Beyond the touchlines, though, nobody tells
You how distinct these nations are. We've pealed
The permutations with dissonant bells:

From peaceful glades home to elvish immortals
To ALL-CAPS unranked sides, among our travels,
And the interdimensional time portals,
Through which reality and hope unravels.

But every team that strives hopes they'll converge
Among the proper few who chase the Cup,
And though most of their songs end in a dirge,
Year after year you'll find their hopes rise up.

The fans rise too, rhythmic as any dance:
Each generation brings new songs and chants.

Two wins on MD9 and 10
Rafflesias win two matches against Valladares and Tristan de Cunha
by .. Kevin Widiyanto

Metropolis and Hardies Point Field—The Rafflesias are back to second on the group table after defeating Valladares on MD9 and Tristan de Cunha on MD10.

First up was Valladares. Twenty minutes in, our very own Zhang scored the first goal. She later scored at 42'. At 57', the Valladar striker went past a swift Rianderan defence and Dharmawanto. It would still be made clear that Riandera was going to win when Dharmawanto stoped the Valladar striker from scoring at 68'. Finally, Wahyuni took a strike at 85', making the final scores 1-3.

"That was a good game to conclude the first half of qualifiers," Dharmawanto said in a post-match presser, "I can't wait to see us at the actual World Cup, past qualifiers."

After that was a rematch with Tristan de Cunha. The Rafflesias had played them before, but it was time to see if they could oust the Tristans out of second on the group table. Nine minutes in, Schuyten nearly scored, but the ball landed at Kambuaya's feet. He successfully made it past the Rianderan defence and Dharmawanto at 26', scoring the first goal of the match.

However, the Rafflesias were able to turn the tables. At 47', Rahman went past the Tristans and scored. The next goal for Riandera came at 74', when Woolridge struck. He did a last-minute goal fifteen minutes later, marking Riandera's 3rd goal.

The Rafflesias will play Elmyia next, but on our soil. Krishna and the Riffs hope the Rafflesias can carry on their glory. The Rafflesias have a bye on MD12.

Draw against dead last Dackians deals damaging defeat to detractors
Nova Dackians 0-0 Saperetia

This was probably the one match for Silivia to prove himself. If he managed to get a win here, he'd probably see the end of the qualifiers. A loss would likely see him out. And a draw? It'd probably kick the can down the road. Whatever the result will be would have to be decided on the playing field first. However, before the match, Silivia made some innocuous statements that made some supporters worrisome. Speaking to the media, Silivia made comments about the team being "tired" and "unrested" from the previous upset win against The Osnari Federation. Many detractors jumped on these comments and tried to frame Silivia's "impending defeat" as a large failure of his tactics. Whether they were a failure was about to be seen, as the SAP 4-3-3 lined up against the NDR 4-4-2:

Saperetia: GK Hranislav (C), DEF Abdelkader, Simon, Ante, Anatoliy MID Utt, Inget, Nord ATK Jacques, Seppel, Friedhelm-Rodolf

Nova Dackians: GK ? DEF ?, ?, ?, ? MID ?, ?, ?, ? ATK ?, ?

Despite many fearing this game to be a repeat of the boring 0-0 draw against Knights of LUSITANIA, this time it was a bit different. A more box-to-box game with at least some shots on target was a treat when compared to the bore of MD 6. The outstanding performances during this match were performed by the goalkeepers, who managed to save multiple shots, including a couple from a short distance. It was a bit of a shock when no goals came in the first half. During the press conference, both managers tried their best to motivate their teams, and both managed to achieve the exact opposite. Both teams went defensive and played more tacidly in the 2nd half. Whatever their thinking was, it lead to another 0-0 draw for the Crimsonites.

Elsewhere, Knights of LUSITANIA's defeat out to Warkus puts the Crimsonites on a tie for 7th, behind in 8th, on account of goal difference. With both teams entering a difficult period, any number of points could decide the table for matchdays to come. As for Silivia's position, it seems to be safe for now. If anything, many are calling on him to focus up on keeping good results to keep his position heading into the next cycle.

Image

We go again!
Warkus 0-0 Saperetia

Having finished the first half of the qualifiers, the team now has to play every other team again. Many are hoping that the win and two draws will give Silivia's men enough momentum to improve on some results from the 1st time we met the earlier teams. The first meeting we replay again is against Warkus, a team we lost 1-4 at home in MD1. Many are hoping to avoid a big goal difference to try and gain some ground on nr. 7 Knights of LUSITANIA, who have a GD of -8 compared to our -11. Some optimists are hoping to even gain points on them, but the average supported will be happy with a 1-2 defeat. The federation's focus on defence will come in handy, which Silivia may try to utilise. He gives Jacques, the LW and only player besides GK and captain Hranislav to have played every game so far, a rest, by moving Gil up and putting Utt in. Nothing else was changed as the SAP 4-3-3 lined up against the WAR 4-2-4:

Saperetia: GK Hranislav (C), DEF Abdelkader, Carloza, Damjan, Anatoliy MID Utt, Inget, Camilo ATK Gil, Seppel, Seppo

Warkus: GK Benjamin DEF Owen, Piwter, Evans, Roberts MID Fallows, Williams ATK Castell, Emrys, Rose (C), Tarbutt

While nothing had changed in terms of how much crimson wasn't on the ball at first, what had changed were the amount of opposing shots. The tactic Silivia seemed to try to go for was a simple "Park the Bus" with a touch of "Try to not concede." Emphasis on try. At first, this seemed to work as the by far more aggressive Doves tried to fight their way past the bus, but the bus didn't barge. A switch-up of tactics was observed during the second half of the first half as the home team dropped to a more clear 4-2-3-1 to put more bodies in the bus, but the bus didn't barge. Then the whistle blew for half-time and Silivia gave his half-time speech, but the bus didn't barge. The at this point desperate home team, watching a slow humiliation unfold in front of their home fans, threw everything at the bus, but the bus didn't barge. As the clock ticked down, the Doves got more and more chances against the crimson bus, but the bus didn't barge. And as the final whistle blew to end the game 0-0, the bus hadn't barged.

Relative to the 1-4 pummeling in MD1, this was a boring relief for many supporters of the Crimsonite team. Another bit of good news came in when it was heard that HUElavia pummeled Knights of LUSITANIA 5-3, which meant that the team moved to 7th place by 1 point. Bad news was the fact that that pummeling was done by our next opponent against a stronger team. The media asked Silivia whether he could muster any pummeling incoming from the "big players" in our qualification group, and he responded "I did it once, why not again?" Many prayed his overconfidence wouldn't be the end of this team.

ReemSports: World Cup Coverage

"And I say, hey hey hey hey,"

The 100th World Cup has begun once again, with a bit of positivity coming for the Natkrian national team. Set by the memory of very shortly missing out on the World Cup, Kyes Weah and his boys have shut down their grief into a new beginning for the team. It's the reckoning. It's the start of something new. Their first two games in the group (Group 21) have given them a maximum of six points, thanks to a surprising 3-1 comeback victory for the boys in their opening game against Katzeburg and a well-earned 2-1 win against Atheara. These games not only gave Natkr their dream opening to qualification, but also showed that the whole new tactics and discipline changes that were done in training camp were really working after all.

Natkr 3 - 1 Katzeburg (It's Heaven for Natkr on A Rainy Day in Nordhammer)

The opening game, against Katzeburg, which was played in Natkr's home stadium, Nordhammer City Stadium (Skyhold Arena is going through repairs before the restart of the ReemSports Gaelic Cup), was always going to be under big pressure for the boys, on home ground as well. The national team mainly needed to prove that the lessons from last World Cup's qualification (the ability to handle pressure and actually maintain a good defense) had been learned over the break.

The game began with Natkr trying to spice things up with their new passing style, but Katzeburg were determined to stop the flow. Their strong defense and quick feet caused early problems, leading to Natkr struggling early on in the game with finding their rhythm. In the 20th minute, sadness fell on the home crowd once again. A miscommunication in the defense before a corner kick let the Katzeburg star player, Drake Wruck, score first, putting Natkr behind early on in the game. The goal really hurt some players, especially noting that it was one of the main things they suffered from in the World Cup 99 qualification.

The crowd around the Fan Zone grew nervous quickly, but actually, all of the Natkrian players did not even think once to panic. Captain David Lopez immediately fixed his guys at the back, demanding focus and precision, while Brayden Rodriguez, the star midfielder, took his charge of the ball, changing up his tempo in midfield to match his teammates and to stop Katzeburg from gaining possession again.

Natkr's response was planned and came exactly at the perfect time. Their style of play switches up, and they finally broke the lack of goals, hitting the net just right before halftime. A beautiful play set up by Jonty Hatfield was sent down to the right side of the pitch, which resulted in a low cross, which the man himself, Henry Henderson, met perfectly with a short finish, which now made the score 1-1. The Natkrian goal was a result of the tension between the teams, sending each team into halftime with a tie.

Coach Kyes Weah's halftime speech was centered on maintaining a solid defense/discipline and exploiting the wide sides of the pitch, where Katzeburg's full-backs were beginning to get tired. The football instruction was short, but clear: keep being patient, and the chances will come.

The second half showed a more locked-in Natkrian side, dominant and scary, emerge. The combination of Henry Smith's pace and Brayden Rodriguez's vision began to frighten the heck out of the other team and make this game look easy. Henry Smith, using his dribbling skills he worked on during the break, broke through to the left, forcing a needed foul just barely outside the box.

The free-kick can't have been more beautifully done. It was excellent. It was perfect. Rodriguez took the free kick with a hard kick, before laying off the head of the great defender David Lopez, whose powerful hit landed in the net so gracefully. Natkr had completed the comeback they had wished for, taking a 2-1 lead at their turf and hyping the crowd in the stadium. David Lopez's (the captain) goal, in a moment of uncertainty, was a powerful statement needed for their redemption.

Natkr closed out the victory a few minutes later. A quick counter-attack pressed up the line, saw Henry Smith deliver an elegant cross that Henry Henderson rocketed home for his second goal of the game, wrapping up the dub at 3-1. This amazing final score, after the first scare in the 20th minute, confirmed that Natkr's new mentality was all about putting their games into wins.

Working it all out again: Natkr 2 - 1 Atheara

The second qualifier, which was an away game against Atheara, presented a new challenge to the team: proving they could hold on to a lead and handle opposition away from home. Atheara is known for their hard-working midfield and their work in trying out things in the second half. Natkr carried their greatness and composition into the game, playing with heart and confidence from the very start. Their disciplined work ethic, unlike previous away games from last time, they were not immediately changed by the away team's home crowd or by any means, what they could say to them.

The opening goal came in the 30th minute. A period of tiki-taka, but confusion between the attacks saw Henry Smith's shot get saved, and the rebound fell nicely to Elijah Hernandez, who finally got a goal after a long period out with an ankle injury, giving Natkr a needed 1-0 lead in the game before halftime.

The second half saw Natkr step up their game pretty quickly early on. A well-planned set piece saw Ezra Vale pass the ball up and down in the box, and the nice, quick, and quiet midfielder Parker Murphy finished it swiftly to make it 2-0. The two-goal lead had finally made the team feel comfortable, but the game was nowhere close to being over.

As probably thought, Atheara intensified their pressure greatly. In the 70th minute, a moment of battle in the game began when Atheara's Jeremy Duncace helped his team pull a goal back, making the score only 2-1. The atmosphere at Azura Memorial Stadium became extremely hostile to the Natkrian visiting fans, as they all sensed a possible equalizer later on in the game.

The final twenty minutes of the match became a very intense battle between those who were willing to give everything for their team. Atheara pushed everyone up forward, but this was Natkr's chance to show the other team they still own them in Brayden Rodriguez's back pocket. They didn't panic at all, or revert to try to get a goal back; instead, they kept the ball nearby carefully, ran down the clock responsibly, and relied on their solid defense, which had been worked on.

Goalkeeper Ethan Carter, who had little to do that game in the first half, made two crucial saves for the Green on Blue to keep their lead. Natkr stayed strong, holding on till the end and securing a second win in a row on the road. The result was a praise for the new defensive stability lately at the back and their ability to see out their wins- a big improvement from over the last two tournaments.

Looking Ahead

With a perfect start to their qualification journey from two games, Natkr now sit on top of their qualification group (Group 21) with 6 points earned, providing a positive mentality as they head into the next matches. The two wins have not only given them the needed points but have founded the belief that the squad is a way better version of its predecessor.

The primary focus of the team is their game against Felinetopia, their next opponent. Felinetopia is known for its quick play built on the wings, and plays with an unpredictable and chaotic style of play, which will test Natkr's discipline in their formation and commitment to their new approach. Weah will mainly focus on containing the sides of the pitch and exploiting the middle of the field, which Felinetopia often leaves behind.

Following the match against Felinetopia, Natkr will get to go to their bye week, scheduled for next week. This break will be valuable to the squad at Nordhammer, helping them recover smoothly before the next qualifiers, tactical analysis from the games, and managing to put the substitutes in the needed positions and areas ahead of the next stretch in games over the qualifiers.

The coaching staff is very excited to use the bye week well, to analyze their performances on set-pieces, studying mainly the goal Katzeburg scored in the first half. While the squad's attack, led by top-scorer and award-winning Henderson, is firing on every side of the pitch, maintaining a clean sheet against greater and better teams remains the top priority of their improvement.

Their early success has helped Kyes Weah's pre-100 World Cup strategy: grit, control of the ball, and resilience. The journey might be long and definitely hard, but for the first time in this new generation of football, Natkr's World Cup dream actually feels like a strong possibility, not a far hope that won't come true. They are no longer known for the losses of the past, but by the dominant victories of the future.

"So close that it's frustrating."

The frustrated Luke Killian was laying down on an ornate lounge chair in his office with a cold compress on his forehead. It was the day after Zenic came away with a late 1-0 win over the United States of Nova Calania thanks to the foot of one Sumida Nori. And the backline plus Mosley putting up a masterclass. While that was happening, he had found the best Spritz bartenders in or near Manacus and paid them a handsome fee to work the VIP boxes during the match. Of course, he and Serena had a few themselves to taste test to make sure the quality was up to par. Maybe a little too much quality control.

"I hate when I forget when something is an 'apéritif' and not meant to be consumed straight up." It was a lesson he failed to learn a few times, including several times in university and when he led the Survivors to a berth in the 73rd World Cup, though he had improved to only suffering this fate once a year. He might have drunk a bit too much due to the stress of how close the Nova Calania match was. Or it could do something with the close 1-1 draw against Bonusia that kept Zenic from being level on points with their Anaian rivals. He wasn't particularly mad at the draw, as Bonusia were a strong contender from the most recent Baptism of Fire to stick around and be a threat but he still wished that they could have managed a win.

And that seemed to be the story of this first half of qualifying: not quite all there. A huge loss to Nova Calania to start it all off, a shock loss to an unranked Innisfree, a win against Porotia that was closer than it should have been, and the draw with Bonusia. All results that by themselves would be understandable or excusable but combined painted a less than pleasing picture of a Zenic squad that either wasn't prepared or starting to show their age. And he didn't know which was worse to deal with.

Thankfully, it was a question he would most likely not need to answer if the last four games were any indication. Even with certain results, 3 wins and a draw in their last four games (including a win to start off the second half of qualifiers) was a run any team would love to have. As long as Zenic could sweep Bears Armed and then follow it up with revenge against Innisfree with a huge win, the Survivors could pull away enough to make it a two (or three) horse race for first place in Group 22.

Just then, Killian's desk phone began to ring. With a bit of struggle, he managed to get up from the lounge chair and amble his way to his desk. Picking up the receiver, he answered "Federation of Zenician Futbol head office. This is President Killian speaking." From the other side came the voice of an angel....or his wife, Serena. "Yes, I'm doing all right. A bit of a pounding head but otherwise, pretty well."

"Mmmmhhmmm."

Looking at his watch, he confirmed "Yeah. I can do lunch in about a hour and a half. The new place by the base of the mountain? Sure. See then, honey bun. Love you too." He hung up the phone and stumbled back to the lounge chair, putting the cold compress back on his forehead.

"That's enough worrying for today. Time for a quick nap and then a nice relaxing meal. That's the good life."

The eyes that only saw peace and serenity pressed themselves as if to make sure that what he saw was indeed what was going on. It was most certainly accurate. It wasn't blood, but the same energy he had seen fade from the beasts. It had a golden shine to it, causing him to stiffen a smile through the pain.

And make no mistake, he was going through plenty of pain. The hole located in his chest pulsated as it spilled things out. At that point, he felt like crying, but he chose not to. Instead, he struggled up, leaning on the weapon he used. For as much as he had enjoyed a peaceful run, it was quite clear his time was up, and he wouldn't have much more left.

A sigh died in his mouth as he finally stood up. It was time.

Both versions of the Virgin of France came to blows. The Dragon Witch, clad in black, seemed to briefly hold the upper hand before being pushed back with several sword slashes that, while blocked, had enough power to make the witch wince. She held tight to her banner, finally unleashing a sword she had behind her to properly duel with her opponent. Her warrior equivalent, golden-haired and defiant, stood in her offensive stance, quickly clashing with any attempts that the witch tried. Both sides were truly equal.

The staggering man passed unnoticed as the two clashed. His other allies were busy with the wyverns; his summoner was currently entangled with another sneakier couple of flying beasts, and he couldn't make any of his words, any of his cries, leave his mouth intact. His mind went back to the earlier battle he had had against the Assassin, that energy that came to him, the one that made them be washed away. An opening appeared as the witch managed to get some space between her and her equal. His voice nearly cracked, finally gaining enough strength as he could feel himself slowly dematerialize.

[Northern Sunrise] - Maré Alta... Iemanjá!

(Sunrise/Great onslaught)
all worlds come to a shared point

The wild tide came as a surprise, slamming against the witch, narrowly missing Guy's party as it did. A squelching sound could be heard as the witch struggled against what looked to be a shark. So distraught was she that she failed to look to the side. The sole glimpse she could make was only enough to see the blade come in contact with her eyes. The slash was just enough to cause her energy to spew out. She flailed against the waves, slowly submerging as her energy faded away. The third vice-captain was no longer an obstacle. But as Kitsunia was first to notice, Guy's sole summon was no longer there.

Desperation led to sorrow. Northern Sunrise had perished in combat. The fox-eared girl crumbled, knees on the ground as she watched the tides slowly dissipate as they returned to the sea. Her man, or whatever facsimile of him, was no longer there. Valanora and Yamaxanadu, the likely more experienced ones still in play did consider talking to her, only for someone else to take the initiative. The warrior of France.

[Jeanne d'Arc] - He was brave, Miss. I can only apologize that I could not arrive on time.
[Kitsunia] - He... He...
[Jeanne d'Arc] - All I could see of him as the wave engulfed her was the energy. I... I'm afraid to say it, but he's gone.
[Kitsunia] - ...Why?
[Jeanne d'Arc] - Trust me, this place only sees sorrow and hardship as far as I've been here.
[Kitsunia] - Couldn't you save him?
[Jeanne d'Arc] - I couldn't save my companions, much as I've tried. I doubt this would be much different.

She walked to the summoner, planting the edge of her sword against the wet asphalt.

[Jeanne d'Arc] - You would happen to be his summoner, yes? I'm Jeanne. Jeanne d'Arc, awaiting orders.
[Miss OMA] - But... you don't look like the Jeanne that I'm familiar with!
[Jeanne d'Arc] - I'm aware. You could say that I've been sent here thanks to the one you'd think of. Much as I find your version of me rather farcical in her lack of action, I can recognize a situation for what it would be.

The savior of France rose her sword, placing it over her shoulder with a triumphant smile.

[Jeanne d'Arc] - Think of me as a warrior with the duty of ending this paradoxical singularity. With your luck, you should find more of ours. Mister...?
[Guy] - Uh. Name's Guy, Miss Jeanne. So, what you're saying is that there's more of... well, you?
[Jeanne d'Arc] - This place has become a converging spot. It has been drawing forces from every sort of thing with an intention that I can't describe...
[Miss OMA] - She's trying to draw his attention and bring him back.

Most of the party refocused on Olga, who seemed a bit startled by the sudden attention, but continued with full focus.

[Miss OMA] - Calling it a singularity would be accurate. I... I was the head of Chaldea.
[Valanora] - The map makers?
[Miss OMA] - Yes. My name is Olga. Olga Marie. I'll keep the rest of my name for whenever it's important.
[Guy] - Nice name, huh?
[Miss OMA] - Drop your flattery. I'm not even supposed to be here. I was meant to be dead; it was the catalyst to show the stakes of the situation my Chaldea had to be thrust into. It was meant to undo the damage that Goetia, under the guise of Solomon, brought to our proper human history, erasing the singularities he created in order to try and snuff humanity.
[Yamaxanadu] - A nice story, certainly. So why are we here?
[Miss OMA] - Well. Then I came back. As an alien. And I was supposed to tag along with my Chaldea in this awesome form once they beat me, but even before I got to appear, he just... vanished.
[Tumbra] - Who's that, then?
[Miss OMA] - Our player.

They proceeded to walk down the now-empty roads of Shinjuku, the lights slowly dimming out in response to the sun rising at the previously eternal night that covered the location.

[Miss OMA] - Our game naturally relies on the player, who is supposed to at least sympathize with the protagonist. Possibly self-insert, but I wouldn't recommend it. Brings all sorts of creeps.
[Guy] - ...I kinda take offence to that last bit.
[Miss OMA] - Good. In any case, when he vanished, it just... brought everything into disarray because he had already amassed quite the harem while I was out.

Her head raised to see the skies getting a heartwarming blue hue, although the words that came out of her mouth didn't go along well with it.

[Miss OMA] - Without him, they rioted. I could only return in my old body, now that he wasn't around to see me, but... well. When I came back, they had already slaughtered everyone else.
[Doctor] - And who exactly would those victims be?
[Miss OMA] - Heroes of proper history, magi, authority figures, staff. I concocted a plan with Leonardo da Vinci. Uh... I mean, our version of Leonardo da Vinci, to create a decoy that would, in turn, quiet them down so that we could restore some semblance of normalcy. It lasted a single day.
[Guy] - Wait, so that's why that girl with the knife said she killed a genius?
[Miss OMA] - Yes. She killed Leonardo da Vinci and the decoy. I was the only one left who was entirely sane. Joan of Arc wasn't exactly sane (that was by design), but she was the one least affected by it.
[Yamaxanadu] - ...Which in turn means that the craziest one is the beast, correct?
[Miss OMA] - Yes.
[Doctor] - So why don't you tell us all you know about this beast? Knowing her weaknesses would be ideal in this case.

As they continued, Chromatika stopped in his tracks, having seen Kitsunia on the ground, still shocked and in full sorrow.

[Chromatika] - ...Mother, we need to go.
[Kitsunia] - Why? He's no longer here.
[Chromatika] - He sacrificed himself to make sure we got to continue our adventure. The best we can do is see it through to the end.
[Kitsunia] - I... I need a minute.

He did a small bow with his head before turning around. In truth, he, too, was devastated by it, but he had to hold back and march forward. After all, it's what his father would have wanted.

(...)

The former pirate town had been cleared up by that point, but she still couldn't believe her eyes. Even after all that, she still hadn't found her father. Dressed in a hoodie and followed by a giant golden cat, she piped up to her dragon-kin chaperone.

[Qasden] - Unca Dainer, are you sure Dad is here?
[Dainer] - He better be, he owes me five bucks... Regardless, merchants told me they spotted a man who matches the description of your father to a tee. He has to be here.
[Qasden] - Are you in a hurry, unca? Do you not like being with me?
[Dainer] - I don't mind you, but I don't feel comfortable having to be responsible for you. Even more so when you remember the sort of stuff we heard about the pirate ladies from this place.
[Qasden] - But I'm a girl, I'm not worried about them.
[Dainer] - With quite due respect, dear? I doubt that would make you any safer here.
[Qasden] - Well... guess we're gonna go back to exploring, huh, unca?
[Dainer] - As long as we find him, yes.

"Vive la France!" La Pucelle, the Maiden Warrior of Domrémy. Few are unfamiliar with her story, her sacrifices and tribulations, until being martyred by the English, becoming a symbol of hope in times of uncertainty. Many interpretations of the lady made her shape and form hard to properly pin down, allowing for many of those to resurface in times of need. On this occasion, this version of the maiden of France is a sword-wielding expert in tactical fighting. In her version of the tale, she fought alongside several comrades with the goal of guaranteeing peace to the French, but while she managed to survive it through to the end, it was not without loss. Mention the name of Lianne to this version of the maiden and she's likely to tear up.

It was time for what was, at least one paper, the biggest match of the group. #2 seeds Saterun would play host to #1 Baker Park, although neither team was quite at the top of the current group table. However, it was sure to be a quality affair, with both sides looking to get something from this all-important matchup. As the Claws were hosting, Handrix hoped that they could at least earn themselves a draw. Getting something from this game would be a significant morale boost that the team would need for the second half of qualifiers. Sultan Stadium was booming all around them, filled almost to the brim with eager Claws fans. They were in the capital, and needed to show out for Saterun pride.

The game started fairly evenly, with the guests kicking it off. The first shot came in the 15th minute, a wild effort from Vidar Washington that sailed well over. Baker Park got a few in return, but none really tested Kristofor Bohler. Eventually, however, the first goal would come. Saterun were deep in the opposition's half, trying to work the ball around the box. Unfortunately, a misplaced pass from Anders VandeLlen gave the ball away to Baker Park, and Handrix could see what was about to happen before it even unfolded. The Claws had overloaded the right side, leaving the left completely open. Heather Womack played a quick pass out wide to Linette Gonzales, who had acres of space to run in to. She managed to run past Rodrygo Sienna, and just barely clipped the ball into the box before running out of bounds. It went through the only two players there (Becky Shock and Matt Saez), and it looked like a wasted opportunity. However, Shala Ibrahim had been covering the back post, and managed to hit the ball first time. It rocketed into the top corner, leaving Bohler with no chance. The guests had taken the lead.

Halftime came and went, and Handrix brought on Adrian Schlimme and Crespo Antonsen to give his attack some extra spark. Initially, not much changed. Both sides got a couple more shots, but nothing stuck. As time wore on, Handrix got more desperate. On came Max Nicoloasi, a fringe player who never really got many minutes on the NT. Sülimein Kalemanu was still recovery from food poisoning two nights before, and Handrix wanted him rested for the next match against Ethane. Luckily for Handrix, though, Nicoloasi grabbed his opportunity with both hands. He instantly made an impact, playing a great switch across the field that got an attack going. One Antonsen got some space out on the right flank, he crossed the ball high into the box. It went just a bit farther than intended, however, and only Nicoloasi could get to it. In a remarkable display of awareness, he headed the ball back across the goal, where Caesar Ibañez was waiting. it was merely a matter of tapping the ball across the line to bring Saterun level.

And so it stayed for the rest of the match. A draw was decent, but Handrix was a bit worried that the Claws had trailed at home. That meant that the return fixture was going to be even tougher. He had other things to think about, however. Their next match was at home, against Ethane. This team had shocked Saterun to beat the 3-1 on the opening day, a loss that had somewhat derailed the Claws qualification plans. Now, Handrix wanted revenge. He had a week to get ready, but he would come armed with as much tactical and personnel firepower as he could. It was time to unleash Kameron Boyd's notes.

*****

The Claws stayed in the capital for their first match of the second half of qualifying. Only 4 miles away from Sultan Stadium sat Continental Field, home of Anasb FK. Although it was on the smaller side of multiverse stadiums, at only 32,000 capacity, it was out in full force today against Ethane. After losing 3-1 on opening day, the Claws were hungry. They had a raucous home crowd behind them, and Handrix was determined to play his opposition out of the park. Adrian Schlimme and Sülimein Kalemanu started over the usuals, but otherwise it was all the same. Tucked under his tactics board, Handrix had a brief summary of Kameron's notes on every player in the squad (at least, that had been playing while Kameron Boyd was still head coach of the NT). He had fine-tuned his instructions largely based off of that, and today he would find out if his plan would work. It was all very exciting.

After a light week of training, the Claws were fully fit. And so they unleashed the first part of Handrix's plan: relentless pressing. They covered the opposition, barely letting them breath. Ethane were good, and so managed to stay relatively composed, but Handrix could already tell that the pace of this game was different than the original fixture. Once the Claws had a solid grip on the game, they started to follow the next step. They controlled possession tightly, with no individual player holding the ball for more than five seconds. And this quick passing was what led to the first goal. Shifting the ball around the top of the box, Oscar Carlisle spotted Ibañez making a darting run through. A tight through-ball was placed perfectly in the striker's path, but he didn't carry it forward. Instead, he played it back to Kalemanu, who then played it ever so slightly out wide to a running Schlimme. The forward took one touch to control the ball before blasting it past Edward Harris. He wheeled away in celebration as the stadium exploded. The Claws were in front.

Handrix knew that his team's response was crucial, and so upped the tempo even higher as the half wore on. They managed a handful of shots more, and Bohler remained strong in the net to keep out a few close chances. They went into the break still 1-0 up. Handrix realized that his strategy was taking a toll on some of the players, and so brought out Shain, Sienna, and VandeLlen. After the game resumed, Saterun kept up the high tempo, and gradually started to wear the opposition down for good. By the 75th minute, everyone was exhausted. As the clock ticked into first the last ten minutes and then extra time, the guests became desperate. They kept pushing, but to no avail. In the 90+2', in a fleeting attempt to create something, Andy Whewall played a though-ball directly into the path of Channan Gatsby. The young centerback quickly hoofed it up the field, intending only to clear the ball. However, he had accidently played an excellent lobbed pass up to Kalemanu, who used his last drop of stamina to burst past the opposing defender and towards goal. Eventually Harris came out to meet him, but Kalemanu wasn't fazed. He had played three seasons in the Chromatik Red League, as just a teenager. This was a piece of cake. He delicately chipped the ball past the oncoming Harris for a beautiful goal that capped off the match.

It had been an extremely solid win, and one that significantly narrowed the table. Now, although Saterun still technically sat fifth, there was only a three-point gap between them and still first-placed Ethane. The race for automatic qualification was very tight, and the Claws needed to be perfect from here on out. Up next were Orcuo and Electrum, two games the Claws had won during the first half of qualifying. If they played like they did today, those would be simple matches. However, today had been very demanding on the players, and Handrix would have to balance it out. But for now, he was just happy to have gotten the three points.

AVIOIBSIA THUNDERER

FIRST FLIGHT: 1940
WINGSPAN, METERS: 11
NO. SEATS: 1
SPEED, KNOTS: 251
WEIGHT, TONNES: 2
NO. BUILT: 109
This Kanzlian fighter served their nation faithfully from its introduction in 1940 up until its retirement in 1949

Back in the day, all Kanzlia had in their air arsenal was the rather antiquated Schatzki Astute, and by antiquated I do mean biplane antiquated. It was okay in its time, mid 1930s time at least. But the march of technological progress stops for no one and by 1938 the Kanzlian Air For- I mean the Kanzlian Air Department was looking into retiring the Astute. Naturally Schatzki, an aviation giant specialising in military aircrafts, was expected to take up the job of replacing their Astute. However to encourage competition the Kanzlian Government also tasked Avioibsia, another aviation giant who hadn't made their foray into the military market, with submitting a design to replace the Astute.

Despite Avioibsia haven't at this point produced a military aircraft, it didnt mean they haven't tried yet. Plenty of internal research and development had been conducted to do exactly that. Most of these as you could expect didnt lead to anywhere besides serving as the basis for some of their most famous raceplanes, namely the Serenity. Avioibsia's D-18 was perhaps the only example of an Avioibsia-produced military aircraft but that was a licensed copy of a foreign design. Anyhow, Avioibsia wasnt a beginner in the military department and it clearly showed when they submitted their D-21 design in 1939 and promptly beat Schatzkis Ontwerp 17. After the technical aspects of the design was fleshed out, two final prototypes was built at the tail end of 1939 and finally they first took to the skies on the 18th of March 1940.

The Thunderer as its marketed, was put into service into the Kanzlian Air Force on the 1st of November 1940 after 12 units was delivered. Another 44 units would be ordered and all delivered by the end of 1941. Thankfully as our great country of Kanzlia didn't take part in any war, Kanzlian Thunderers never experienced the thrill of action. After the Schatzki Austere was put into service, Air Force doctrine dictated that the Thunderers were better suited targetting slower moving bombers whilst the much more agile Austere engaged the escorting fighters. As stated before this doctrine was never put into practice.

Much like the Schatzki Astute the Thunderer replaced, the march of progress stops for no one. When Avioibsia pioneered the turboprop engine, it was clear the conventional Thunderer and the Astute was living on borrowed time. In 1946 the Schatzki-Avioibsia J.V. Ardent was put into service. Powered with a turboprop engine and strong specifications, the Thunderer was put out of service in 1949 as the Ardent entered into service.

The Aviation Museum is more than pleased to tell you that two Thunderers are preserved in our museum. Though unaffiliated with the museum, there remains one privately owned unit that is still in flying condition. For being a historic fighter for both country and company, we bestow this aircraft with Rank 6.
Image
Ah, the Thunderer is it? This bird was built by Avioibsian engineers to be cheap and easy to maintain. Nowadays though? Trust me, this thing is a pain in the ass to maintain. Maintenance woes aside, the kids love this plane. Avioibsia marketed the hell out of the plane in the 40s which includes prominent appearances in Kanzlian cinema during those decades and after. I personally think the Austere looks so much better and deserves more love.

Oh, also, this birds made from multiple materials which makes it a living hell for us to maintain. Its wings were made of wood, its front end of the fuselage is made from aluminium whilst its tail end of the fuselage is mostly made from fabric. This makes the plane a bit more complicated to build and maintain. But it did drive the cost down, and isnt that all that matters in war?

Deep beneath the Paladin Dome during the Snestar-NMS match

360 years of hosting World Cup matches in one place create what the bigwig eggheads in AIF would refer to as a “midden heap.” Especially when your nation repeatedly abandons and re-inhabits the stadium throughout; the result is a Catal Huyuk of yelling at grown men trying to kick a ball around against opposition from any kind of society, species, and set of tactics you could imagine.

It gets odder if there’s some institutional memory keeping the whole thing somewhat in array. The Ministry of Morale was as old as the stadium, and much better organized. They threw money at archaeology programs the same way that nations perverse enough to still depend on fossil fuels threw money at geologists. The archaeologists had the benefit of not having to lie about what they did for a living at Christmas, class reunions and first through eighteenth dates, and all the free x-tra vintage t-shirts they could scavenge and resell from kiosks sealed off for decades.

Solon Orr and Maximos Dorion were the two most accomplished field archaeologists who could still hit the tunnels without their kneecaps giving out in six hours or less. They had been handed 250,000 oz. worth of equipment, a map through the tunnels that would take them as far as the World Cup 10-era underground freeway connected to several hundred acres of parking, and further instructions to be unsealed when they arrived at the On-Ramp to Perdition that divided the modern era from the WC14 cowboy bullshit. To achieve the dream, they had been handed eight days of rations and batteries, enough CO2 absorbent to achieve the Ministry of Morales “WC110 Oxygen-Positive Vision,” and the latest and greatest electric long carts with four-wheel drive to haul the whole kit and kaboodle, and NDAs that even these hardened vets considered a bit extreme.

The first few kilometers were well documented, easy sledding. The carts were only able to navigate rubble by sticking to first gear; anyone trying to walk down would blown past them until they got lost, doubled and tripled back, and expired along with the six or seven other lost souls who had cared enough to go tomb raiding. The monotony was briefly interrupted when Orr pulled out his frantically buzzing phone; three hundred and sixty years of orphaned routers, cables, signal enhancers and other electronic potpourri provided perfect reception throughout the concrete labyrinth. “Ah shit yeah! We’re up!”

“We’re up?”

“Robert Est-Tononcle just drove the ball through the back of the net after Federico Calvaresi tripped over his own shoelaces while trying to mark him on the dribble.”

“Well Bob’s your unc- Ow! Why the hell did you punch me? I need that shoulder to operate this illegal mining equipment!”

“He didn’t asked to be named that! His mother didn’t speak enough English to know the aphorisms.”

“Ok, sure, but what about his dad- AAGH! This mining equipment isn’t gonna fucking operate itself!”

“He was the local Orinoco.com package delivery guy. Union rules gave him all the time he needed to be a real man about town. Supposedly he was at the birth of a different kid at the same time.”

“Ok, I feel bad. That was a bad thing to say. I am a bad person, who said a bad thing. Can I promise you some personal growth if you agree to leave my drill-operating shoulder the fuck alone?” Dorion said nothing but resumed pulling his portable sonar kit, and the two men continued onward ever downwards in mutually annoyed silence.

The detritus blended together; crushed aluminum cans, wing bones, bright posters using inks that would murder any microbial life that got within fifteen inches of the lettering. Nicola Ragusa equalized, and from the radio broadcast that Orr had started playing from his phone it seemed like things could be going better for the Paladins. Elisa Baldriga sliced through the Paladins backfield like she was working the deli counter to put Snestar up 2-1, and Noel Poltron rage-substituted Antoine Legrand in for Pham Nguyen.

The rubble increased as they crossed past the uptick in rubble that marked the line between WC 64 and 63 and both sides ran into locker rooms a few dozen stories overhead. The tunnels continued their wide, gentle corkscrew through substrates pulled from three different regions. Robert Est-Tononcle equalized; Orr bit his lip as Dorion glared over. Riccardo Cavaliere put Snestar back on top; Dorion muttered something about “Venetian punks” under his breath while Orr’s toes curled on his cart’s pedals.

Both men stopped their carts as they reached the WC28 commemorative chapels; there weren’t any atheists in the tunnels. Orr prayed at St. Philothea’s shrine, while the more ascetic Dorion left a ration pack atop the pile at St. Euthymios’s shrine. Orr turned the broadcast back on when he got to the carts to find that Snestar had gone up 4-2.

“I was praying for our survival, and the mission’s success,” Dorion said into the air. Orr waited for him to pull forward, then downed the first of the eighteen emergency shot bottles of applejack/whisky he’d paid the maintenance guy at the Ministry to hide in the cart. John Jones IV came on, albeit too late for either man's liking.

Both men declined the false hope that Monty Youngblood offered them towards the end of the match, and reached the entry to the old parking megaplex as the radio play-by-play cut to the postgame analysis of why the Paladins lost a de facto elimination match. They threw their carts into park; Orr cut off the broadcast before they got to the first caller and sidled into the passenger seat of Dorion’s cart. Dorion handed him the sealed instructions from an inside pocket of his caving suit; Orr nodded and tore them open...

Media Day

Before a room full of cameras and a simple backdrop of the sea and sunshine, suffused with aquatic ambience and a mix of blue and yellow light, three boxes are laid out. Enter, stage left - Hans Himmel, Jesse Morissey, and Sung Min-jae.

Voice, off-camera: Alright, open them up.

Himmel: Well, all right…

Morissey: I’m excited!

They open the boxes, revealing, with exhalations of breath and light, exhaled laughter, yellow-and seaspray blue shirts.

Sung: This is the new third kit?

Off-camera: Yeah. *inaudible*

Sung: Hm?

Off-camera: It’s literally so you wouldn’t clash with Sajnur this week. Looks good though, right?

Sung: You can say that again.

Unveiling the new third kit - designed to represent the Stewartikan people’s relationship with the water, be that the sea, the rivers, or anything else. All is the Water. Get yours today.

4-2-3-1

Stewartika sees heavier rotation heading into the two match days, with Kunio himself stating the race was on for all players to earn a spot in the starting eleven for the must wins against the Martian Independent Republic and Kelssek. To that end, significant things are tested - constant starters Sjoberg and Soon are finally given a rest on the reserves, with Kunio testing a pivot of Kim, an underutilized bench player, and Blake. Sjoberg stays in strike for Sajnur, but makes way for Erikkson against Ranoria, Polluck moving to bench to cover for Sjoberg’s resting. Stewartika looks to continue its near perfect form as the real tests loom.

Mphatso Lyson (Ngwazi Strikers’ 2nd Captain):
Attimimba, on behalf of all players let me be honest, it wasn’t easy. What happened that night truly broke us. At a moment that we should have united together and try and overturn that defeat, you all abandoned us and attacked us and I must say that destroyed us. Players were injured, trust was broken, and psychologically the scars of that night will remain with us for ever.

But seeing you step up today and take responsibility….. it means so much not only to me but I believe also to my fellow teammates. My fellow teammates I believe that the club can never move forward if we hold onto anger, let us let it go and forgive. Now on behalf of the players, we forgive you and we forgive the fans.

(Someone tries to ululate failing miserably and everyone in the locker room laughs. Mphatso Lyson extends his hand and Ttimimba looks up, with tears in his eye, Chifundo Lenpi & James Thom help him up and Ttimimba shakes hands with Mphatso Lyson. Applause breaks out across the locker room and whistles can be heard. Club President Edward Raulman also claps with a large smile on his face.)

(Cut to the tunnel moments later, we see camera footage of the players walking out dancing, singing and beating drums, among them is Ttimimba and Edward Raulman, singing loudly in unison. We then see the players jogging across the pitch, warming up with stretches, passing, and sprints. The footage keeps switching from the players singing in the tunnels to the players warming up on the pitch, throughout we can hear the drums being beat and the players singing.)

(Cut to the locker room, we see a nervous Lothrain Vidraux)

Lothrain Vidraux (Ngwazi Strikers’ Winger):
I was shaking and very nervous, I called my Nana telling her Nana this is how I am feeling. She said Loth try and relax a bit everything will be okay I believe in you. After the apology by the supporter’s association president we went out for warm ups, couldn’t sing ‘cause I was still shaking. When we returned from the pitch I was no longer shaking, I was like am okay but I had butterflies in my stomach that I couldn’t even eat the pre-match meal.

(We see the Ngwazi Strikers and Mansanduni Union walk out of the tunnel onto the pitch with their mascots. The atmosphere is electric.)

Lothrain Vidraux (Ngwazi Strikers’ Winger):
When I walked out on the pitch it felt like I was dreaming, until the whistle blew and I knew this was it.

Commentator:
So underway at Stadiya Bayaram, Mansanduni kicking off the match.

(The Royals start strong, we see Lothrain Vidraux charge right down the right wing and crossing it into the Union penalty area were Union defender Kit Ortega intercepts it preventing Hynym-Forzu from getting the ball.

Ngwazi Strikers has their first shot on goal in the 8th minute from a Hynym-Forzu shot but it is deflected for a corner.

A few minutes later Ngwazi Strikers concedes a free kick giving Mansanduni Union their first opportunity of the game. However, Zack Dawnbridges free kick hits the wall of Royals’ players in front of their goal.

A few moments later we see Union midfielder Alinafe Forzu give the ball away to James Thom who plays it inside to Chifundo Lenpi who then plays a through ball right in the centre to Hynym-Forzu who ships the ball over Richard Gondwe to give Ngwazi Strikers a 1-0 lead, the fans lose their minds. 10 minutes later, the Royals extend their lead to 2-0.

Mansanduni Union try hard to get back into the game, throwing everything to salvage the game. We see a Union goal disallowed due to an offside call, we see Captain James Makina angry at the call and he argues with the ref.

In the next attack we see Union midfield general, George Rooney play a ball into the Ngwazi Strikers’ penalty area, the ball goes over the head of Mphatso Lyson and is met by Limbikani Chiwaya who makes it 2-1. In celebration Chiwaya runs up to the Ngwazi Strikers bench and celebrates in front of his brother Francis Chiwaya, the Royals manager.
We see the ref stop the game for half time.)

(Cut to the Ngwazi Strikers’ locker room. The players are sited and Francis Chiwaya is on his feet addressing the team.)

Francis Chiwaya:
Boys listen to my words. Do not take off your foot of the peddles if you do you will crush, don’t get complacent, don’t lose focus, and for a second do not underestimate your opponent. This is Mansanduni Union we are talking about, they have played against the elites of Mandalanusa and came out on top twice, they have come back from terrible score lines to win it all.

(Speaking under his breath but caught by the mic)

James Thom (Ngwazi Strikers’ Winger):
There goes the Union legend, full of praise of Pig Union instead of focusing on us.

(someone chuckles)

(Ngwazi Strikers gets the second half underway, Lothrain once again advances down the right and passes it to Hynym-Forzu, whose shot is saved by Richard Gondwe, the subsequent second ball by Chifundo Lenpi is also saved.

In the 60th minute Union equalizes from a James Makina Volley, 2-2.

Just a few minutes later the Royals reclaim their lead when 2nd Captain Mphatso Lyson plays the ball into the Union penalty area, only to see the ball sail over Richard Gondwe’s head into the net, 3-2.

The camera zooms on the board, added time 3 minutes. Ngwazi Strikers’ fans and the bench are already celebrating. However, Francis Chiwaya is not, instead he angrily shouts at the bench to keep quite and shouts at the players on the pitch to keep focus. A moment later we see Francis Kayira play the ball into the Royals penalty area where it is cleared but only as far as Captain Fantastic, James Makina 40 yards out, who volleys the ball past Harry Garnett to level the game 3-3.

After extra time, the two sides still cannot be separated. Penalties.)

Commentator:
That’s the end of the action here in the BT Top 8 final and we will go to a penalty shootout. So it will come down to nerves of steel between these two sides, Harry Garnett and Richard Gondwe.

So James Thom with the first kick and the wind in his favourrr up against Richard Gondwe and it is saved! By the Union goalkeeper and advantage immediately to the Peoples’ Team.

(We see Mansanduni Union score their penalty through Zack Dawnbridge).

Commentator:
Chizmo Nthala up against Richard Gondwe. Already the advantage with the Peoples’ Team, can Chizmo afford to squander this one.

Chizmo! Saved again!

2 out of two and Richard the Wall Gondwe makes another impeccable save!

Advantage now firmly with Mansanduni Union.

(We see Union fans dancing, blowing on vuvuzelas. Despair on the Royals’ faces.)

Commentator:
Will it be Mansanduni Union winning their 10th Top 8 title. Limbikani Chiwaya with kick number two.

For Mansanduni Union so far one out of one so far. Can Chiwaya make it 2-0.

He’s made 2-0!

Edging closer to a 10th Top 8 title here are Mansanduni Union at Stadiya Bayaram. Is this stadium a curse for Ngwazi Strikers?

Mphatso Lyson, if he misses this one or it’s saved by Gondwe then Union will need only one more to win it.

Pressures on, Saved Again!

One more kick needed for Mansanduni Union to win the BT Top 8.

Three penalty saves by Richard Gondwe. He is one kick away from being the hero tonight.

(We see Chifundo Lenpi step up to take the penalty for Ngwazi Strikers against his former side)

Richard Gondwe (Mansanduni Union Goalkeeper):
(shouting & laughing) “I know you boy, you can’t score against me.

Chifundo Lenpi (Ngwazi Strikers’ Midfielder):
Don’t worry mate, I am still going the same way with this penalty, the same place, I am not going to change anything because of you.

Commentator:
And remember he is up against his old club. He was in Union colours just a few months ago.
He’s made it 2-1, can Ngwazi Strikers make a comeback and win it all ?

(We see Mansanduni Union step up to take the penalty)

Commentator:
I don’t think we have ever witnessed a situation where a team has missed three penalties and gone on to win the shootout. But if Captain Fantastic doesn’t score here then its alive for Strikers.

If he gets it though, Union will win 3-1 on penalties.

Captain Fantastic has the responsibility of delivering the gold platw to the club.

Here he comes, Makina!

It’s a GOALLLL, Mansanduni Union are the winners. The Peoples Team win the BT Top 8.

Once more, the Royals fall short against the Biyambian giants, Mansanduni Union.

Will this loss break them or inspire them to do great things in the Raulmans era.

(As the credits roll we see Ngwazi Strikers’ players in tears, Francis Chiwaya comforting his players. We see Union players dancing. We see Francis Chiwaya’s wife congratulation her brother James Makina and her brother in law Limbikani Chiwaya before walking towards Francis.)
