HAVING FUN IN A BORING PARADISE

Alaide Mitregasque's brace and a score from both Ingalcer Pardau and Coraine Du Peniveaux had seen Auprussia comfortably defeat Boring Paradise. The run of play had been all Auprussia during the match, the better attacks, better possession overall. Eleo Vicard's team has been firing on all cylinders ever since the start of the cycle justifying his selection process for this cycle. When speaking to the press Vicard had glowing praise for his players: "We came together as a team, played as a team and won as a team. Keeping this momentum up is pivotal to our success". A journalist asked: "How do you feel about your youngest wingers, Rohel Vinmirre and Coraine Du Peniveaux?". "I deeply believe they are incredibly talented and have been crucial to our success as well. That extra jolt of energy off the bench really throws teams off of their game". "Do you think they should be starters?". "They can be in due time but I believe the current starters are better to start with, Lithobert's experience helps us immensely and Pagault has been playing very well". "Your hardest matches are coming up, Biyambi at the top of the group and the highest rank of the group Eastfield Lodge, how will you prepare for these important Matches?". "Like we always do, with intensity and attention to detail."

Vicard then went to the locker room and called everyone around, he turned to one of his assistants "Did you get the tape?". "Somehow I did". "Well put it on then". Vicard showed the tape showing what occurred in BIyambi emphasizing on fellow Auprussian Lothrain Vidraux. The locker-room was silent and Vicard with bile built into his words. "We face Biyambi next and I swear on everything in my life if we do not kick their ass I will run you all to the ground!". The tension in the room lingered as the Auprussians' faces were focused and intense. "This week we will not rest on our laurels, every preparation will be made and we will rain hell on those bastards! do you hear me!". "YES SIR!" The Auprussians shouted with vigor and anger. "Not one stone unturned not one wasted second!"

The Auprussian journalists who were leaving the press conference overheard the shouting going on in the locker room. No one could make out the words but they knew Eleo Vicard's anger when they heard it. The man had a temper in his playing days but most thought it went away in his managerial years. Eleo Vicard himself was the last to leave the room looking as angry as he could be. This started rumors of the locker room being unsettled and questions of whether or not Vicard's managing style could potentially damage the team in the future. No one ever really knew how his assistant got the tape. There were rumors that a tape was the source of Vicard's anger but most skeptics attributed it to Vicard finding flaws in the national team's play. Regardless of the rumors swirling the coming practices were going to be the most intense practices Vicard could think of. The man was motivated by spite and anger even back in his playing days.

The second pair of games involving Hanalia in this world cup qualifying campaign produced two 3-0 wins for the home side. The first, at the National Stadium in Lei, Hanalia took victory over Vaishnavaria with a goal apiece for the three forwards, Reyes (12'), Lin (41') and a Nelson penalty (65'). Taking lessons from the previous match, they looked for dominance right from the beginning of the match. The Griff had taken some of the business like approach forward and it had paid off.

The Zwangzug away match was predictably a troublesome affair. As had been discovered in New Hap City, playing a highly ranked team away is a challenge. The task in Keppal City was to prove just as difficult with the Zwangzug side seemingly effortlessly developing a two goal lead. A fortuitous break down the right hand side for the last play of the game added an extra to their total. The Hanalians' response only half hearted as minds had turned to the long and un-celebratory journey home.

On that journey the Griff had time to reflect on his plan for the qualifiers and how it was going so far. There were large groups in this format and the cream would likely rise to the top and his squad, slap bang in the middle as the pot 5 team, would need to do something special. Winning the home legs and hoping for the odd away result against one of the weaker sides wouldn't cut it. Likewise preying on the weaker sides will writing off the stronger teams likely wouldn't yield an upset either.

The schedule may help, a third of the matches coming before the first BYE. Early points on the table might just instill confidence and add momentum. On the other hand the precise nature of the schedule wasn't ideal from a momentum building perspective. The first match day at home to Astograth looked appealing but following that up with the pot 1 away leg of the Anaian derby match, pot 3 and then pot 2, had the makings of trouble from the outset before considering the home advantage or lack thereof. Then the possible momentum builders were coming at precisely the wrong time with the BYE firmly in sight. The strategy was going to have to be one game at a time, forget about the possibilities, predictions and permutations. Each opponent in this competition was worth of serious consideration and would have to be given their due.

Results wise, after four games, 1-1-2 was fair going. Not securing the win at home in the campaign curtain raiser was disappointing but one point was better than none. Hanalia surely wouldn't be alone in losing in the Brewery Stadium and the performance was encouraging. More encouragement too from the result against Vaishnavaria. Another away loss wasn't necessarily a surprise but if the Griff was take this team into the finals, an away upset would help a great deal in that endeavour and there weren't a lot of those opportunities remaining.

With so many matches to be played any individual one, or pair thereof, was unlikely to swing things drastically. That being said the next two games before the BYE may set the course for the remainder of the campaign.

Part 1 Part 2

PART THREE: MAGGIE'S DEN

Rami Niblick pondered the revelation. Somehow – for reasons this damn woman in front of here wouldn't (or maybe couldn't? Rami wasn't sure) explain, he was being tasked with doing a repair job on reality itself. He'd seen a lot of things in his three or so centuries of life, but this...this was definitely new. Devoid of any other options, he resorted to his most traditionally successful tactic; talking. “So, I'm supposed to be...what, some sort of repair tech for reality itself. Let's say I believe that. What exactly am I supposed to do about it from this...” he waved his hands around to demonstrate the nothingness of the void, “...this expanse of sod-all you've apparently summoned me into?”

Margaret smirked. “Look closer.” she said cryptically.

As Rami surveyed the void for the umpteenth time, blurry...somethings began to take shape. Numbers. Letters – both Latin and Greek. Various bits of punctuation, and other symbols and sigils that he couldn't quite place. Margaret placed her hand on his shoulder.

“Welcome to the Veil,” she said with a hint of grandiosity, “or as I like to call it, home.” Margaret smiled wistfully. “Many years ago, when I was a mere Snubnosian priestess, I offered prayers and gifts to the pantheon of luck and chance. The Random Number Gods, as you would have called them. When I died, rather than Death claiming me, the gods stepped in with an offer. They made me the custodian of this place, keeping the flow of fortune going...and with the power to manipulate things just a teensy bit. Enough for the living world to revere me as a deity in itself, the avatar of randomness.” Margaret smiled a little. “All these numbers and computations are the very threads of entropy and chance, and they are my domain.” The smile broadened. “Like I said...I'm kind of a big deal.”

“That's...that's certainly a lot.” Rami said, before doing a double-take as some crudely-fashioned cubes passed his peripheral vision. “Hang on...are those dice?!?”

“Sort of,” Margaret replied, “they're voodoo dice. Representations of the very first offerings to the Random Number Gods. The Big Bang created primordial soup; the Veil has primordial stock cubes.”

Rami looked at one of the cubes quizzically. “Why is that one covered in noughts and crosses?”

“Branding.” Margaret replied with a sly grin. “But...let's move on. I've managed to locate the issue. There's a permeating force that binds these threads together. A delicate balance of order of chaos. We call it...the Jandan.”

“And I'm guessing this is out of whack?” Rami mused. “And that's what you need me to fix.”

“Exactly.” Margaret pointed into the distance, where the Veil appeared to be slightly cracked. “Just there appears to be the weak point. It's an area that appeared to have been weaker for some time, through some connection between Krytenia and the Dreamed Realm. Looks like about two hundred years old. But recently...it's been even more, as you say, 'out of whack'.”

“So you want me to investigate the crack?” Rami asked as the pair approached the rift in the Veil.

“In so many ways...” Margaret said with a malicious grin, before booting Rami squarely in the backside, sending him tumbling through the crack.
"I revel in the nonsense; it's why I'm in Anaia."

OOC: If Macbon posts a roster or disputes my claims via RP, feel free to treat this as a case of Sporting World being Sporting World. Otherwise, feel free to treat this as the canonical account of the match if you wish.

Sporting World

Free Republics 3, Macbon 1
By: Clarice Chaussee

Senator Koby Theodore's Republican National Soccer Team has now won its third consecutive match to open World Cup 100 qualifying. The match was held in Macbon where they have kept their roster a closely guarded secret since World Cup 92, which happened 8 years ago. As I do not have an updated roster to identify their players with, I will simply identify them using this old roster. The match was held in the Stadio Olimpico in Vitelogna which seats 80,000 but the Republican Cheerleading Squad appeared to outnumber the Macbon fans in attendance. The Free Republics played a heavily rotated squad, as Theodore preferred to rest his best players for the critical upcoming match against Juvencus.

"This felt like a practice. We've played before bigger crowds competing for our houses at Barjavel. But whatever. Many of us got significant minutes we wouldn't normally get against a World Cup qualifying opponent. Even if that opponent was just some minnow that can't even be bothered to send their roster to the World Cup Committee." Those are the words of Taiji Miyazaki, who played center back for 90 minutes today. According to Zoran Hoffman, the right back in today's lineup, "It was great to get a chance to play. My twin brother Dennis usually gets all of the glory."

Macbon played a 3-4-3 formation with 2 center midfielders rather than the trademark diamond midfield of the FFR. It didn't take long for the Republicans to start putting pressure on their defense as Affiano Marcelo would get a shot on goal within the first minute. Macbon keeper Adelfo Circo found himself under relentless pressure with the first goal being scored by Tolga Theuns off of a free kick just 8 minutes into the match. The Republican pressure did not let up as Macbon's team looked clearly overmatched and outclassed. Oskar Jakobsen would add the second Republican goal in the 27th minute off of a Marcelo shot that had hit the post. The third Republican goal would come in the 73rd minute from the foot of Nathan McKerihan who had replaced Marcelo as a substitute in the 57th minute.

William Madsen would keep a clean sheet for 87 minutes but this would be ruined by an unexpected Caleb Winchcombe back pass that a distracted Madsen allowed to fall into the back of the net. After the match, I spoke with Madsen and asked him about the incident. According to him, "I was distracted by one of our cheerleaders. She's smoking hot and I think she likes me! Definitely a mistake to be thinking about the girls while I still had business to take care of but this match was a glorified practice session anyway. Especially by the second half. Macbon's team looked hopelessly lost out there so we were just running drills. Maybe we should have been trying to run up the score because goal difference is the second tiebreaker but we probably aren't going to need it."

We can already see this generation of the National Soccer Team showing the same supreme confidence as the previous generations. Up next will be an important test against Juvencus at the Samuel Izmailov Memorial Stadium in New City, Orlandiana. This will likely be their toughest test of qualifying and a critical result to obtain if we're going to make a serious run at the group. Limited tickets are still available on LiveMaster. The legendary Maxim Izmailov, who scored the winning goal in the World Cup 85 final, will be honored along with legendary defensive midfielder Kieran Hancock. Hancock is likely better known these days as Lady Nova's husband but he used to be a fairly capable soccer player at one point. Believe it or not. Definitely before my time. Lady Nova will also be in attendance. So don't miss out and make sure you buy your tickets now!

Grand Immortal Imperator's Palace
Republica

With Lady Nova gone, the Grand Immortal Imperator and Lady Scarlett were alone in the palace except for the servants and other help who had been ordered not to disturb them during the World Cup match or face severe punishment. They chose to watch the soccer match together.

Lady Scarlett - We don't get much time alone together anymore.

Grand Immortal Imperator - It's very hard when I'm the man in charge and far more powerful than you were.

Lady Scarlett - But it's still a shame! You know there's nobody I'd rather be around in the entire multiverse. Including my husband.

Grand Immortal Imperator - Likewise. But we're both getting old these days.

Lady Scarlett - I can't believe it has been so long since I was consul. And even longer since Dad was consul.

Grand Immortal Imperator - We can't forget him. Truly a great man and one of the Saviors of our Federation.

Lady Scarlett - So surreal that we renamed the CoCoCo in honor of Samuel Izmailov, of all people. I also don't get why Lady Nova had such a soft spot for him.

Grand Immortal Imperator - He was a truly rotten individual who posed an existential threat to the peace of the multiverse. We are truly better off without him.

Lady Scarlett - So why honor him as a fallen hero?

Grand Immortal Imperator - The people elected him consul twice. The first time, it was stolen from him by Reino Kulseth and the Sanctii hackers. The second time, it was stolen from him by an assassin's bullet.

Lady Scarlett - Then everything turned to chaos for a while until suddenly the power came back on and you had all the electric military equipment.

Grand Immortal Imperator - The truth of what happened must never come out. For the greater good.

Lady Scarlett - My younger self would be totally shocked by the change in you. At one time, you didn't understand or believe in power.

Grand Immortal Imperator - My younger self would be even more shocked. At one time, I was a true believing anarchist. Now, I'm the Imperator, the First Citizen, the ultimate authority in the Federation of Free Republics.

Lady Scarlett - You know, even when you were lost in that delusion, that I've always loved you and wanted what was best for you. Do you remember our conversation 16 years ago where I asked you to run for Consul?

Grand Immortal Imperator - And I said no?

Lady Scarlett - We argued about our political differences but ultimately we agreed to establish the Nicholls Protection Agency.

Grand Immortal Imperator - We don't use that name anymore. Ever since the lights came back on, it's been the Imperator's Protection Agency.

Lady Scarlett - We have so many different security forces these days.

Grand Immortal Imperator - We do. All of them necessary. We rule because we have ended the chaos. Because we have restored peace, law and order to a Federation that had known none of those things for decades. For the sake of our nation's future - and the multiverse's, we must stay in power at all costs. This regime must last forever.

Lady Scarlett - It shall. I've never seen this nation so depoliticized. Everybody simply accepts that we rule.

Grand Immortal Imperator - And those inclined to disrespect the rights of others get exactly what they have coming to them. One question for you: Why did you forgive Lady Nova after what she did to you?

Lady Scarlett - She's useful to me. With my brother in charge, I know she can't stab me in the back again. You have to keep your frenemies close to you. Or else you won't be able to keep an eye on them!

Grand Immortal Imperator - Fair. The one thing that's consistent about Nova is that she's willing to do absolutely anything if she thinks it's in Nova's interest. She's not driven by principle like we are.

Lady Scarlett - Have you spoken to Abelino lately?

Grand Immortal Imperator - No need. We gave him an independent Falatulu under our protection. The people there have never been inclined to vote for lunatics so we have nothing to worry about.

Lady Scarlett - True. It's the other Republics where we need to eliminate democracy to preserve liberty for those capable of exercising it responsibly.

Grand Immortal Imperator - I still hate having to restrict people's liberty. But there are so many people out there who are unfit to be free. They need, above all else, to be ruled and to be taken care of. If you don't rule them, they form political parties, seize the state apparatus and use it to oppress everybody else. Or, if you're lucky, just rob you with state power.

Lady Scarlett - What a goal by Dellucci. Can't believe these boys are actually beating Juvencus.

Grand Immortal Imperator - They are exemplars of the disciplined self-governing youth that will restore our former greatness.

Lady Scarlett - Since they're honoring Izmailov tonight, I want to know the answer to one question: What exactly happened with the assassination of Samuel Izmailov?

Grand Immortal Imperator - The truth is, I pulled the trigger. I did it.

Lady Scarlett - That's far more courageous than anything I ever did. And I once went undercover as an Iesusisgodistani "guest worker" to help bring down the O'Reilly regime.

Grand Immortal Imperator - Abelino's Brotherhood was always about working in the darkness to serve the light. That is what all of us have dedicated our lives to.

Lady Scarlett - And you managed to keep this in the dark for 14 years, even from your own sister!

Grand Immortal Imperator - You never asked until now. And it would have been imprudent to tell anybody until I had finished my revolution within the form.

Lady Scarlett - I promise you that I will never tell a soul what you told me today.

Grand Immortal Imperator - I knew you would say that. The true story of how Izmailov was assassinated must stay with us. If it were to become public, it would threaten everything we've built. And threaten to ignite a revival of NatGre idiocy that could easily lead to a large scale war.

Fortunately for the 2 of them, nobody had heard a word of what they had said. The secret remained with them.

OOC: As is clear from the above, the truth about the Izmailov assassination and the Grand Immortal Imperator's real identity is only known by Lady Scarlett and the Grand Immortal Imperator. Nobody else. That means that none of the characters in your nation should be aware of this information ICly. Also, the regime's noble lie about Izmailov is widely believed within the FFR and repeated uncritically by all mainstream media outlets. There are also no plans, at the moment, for these secrets to be leaked ICly.

Oshaune - Mirin Sector

A monstrous behemoth soared through the skies, prowling the Gloom-stricken clouds for its prey. The wretched bug-wyvern that was the Dragonroach descended within moments of bullet fire streaking in the air. The churned soil of the Terminid Hive World was set alight by incendiary bile as the monster swept across the moult-covered dunes and sickly oases of Oshaune. The creature gave a horrid shriek, turning to face the Helldivers now peppering it with a spray of bullets. Its mouth swayed from side to side as the next emetic purge took place, flames sweeping the landscapes once again. From the ground, a rocket soared- and caved in the face of the monstrosity as it collapsed gracelessly to the sands from which it came.

Twisted caverns led in every direction. Too enclosed for orbital support but not too narrow to hold back the deadliest of bugs. The rhino-sized Chargers of the Terminid Horde clogged entire passageways in their stampedes. An endless cascade of bugs swept in from every direction, closing off every escape. An Exosuit let its gatling gun rip in one direction, a valiant Helldiver holding the other with a torrent of flame. For what seemed like minutes on end the horde did not relent, until at last the final bug was slaughtered in its ghastly home. The Exosuit smashed through the pile of remains to clear the way for the advance.

Scenes like these played out across the planet. For months the operation had been planned, and now it would be carried to fruition. The Helldivers would fight as obediently and devotedly as was demanded of them, no matter the cost in lives or material. Every triumph recorded was turned into a propaganda reel. Every ignominious failure was left for history to carefully avoid imagining in detail. As the news reached the worlds of the Federation, public displays were made to emphasise the great importance of this crucial stage of the Great Expedition into the Gloom.

And for those who visited for freedomball alone, perhaps the constant reminders of the galaxy of violence in which their opponents were forged gave them a moment's pause.

Seyshel Beach - Seyshel Beach Avengement Day Memorial Stadium

Super Earth's experience came solely from the Baptism of Fire. In that tournament, they had proven the effectiveness of their ruthlessness and occasional glimpses of something resembling cunning but truly more along the lines of great fortune. Already the illusion of their invincibility had been shattered. True, they had lost their chance at the finals back then already, but that match had been incredibly close. Their recent 0-3 defeat was a far greater cause for concern. And now they faced Audioslavia, one of the most eminent teams active in the multiverse. A source of members and experiences for dozens of rosters.

The victors of the very last World Cup.

The conclusion seemed foregone to any unbiased observer. Yet Super Earth was nothing if not biased. The Senators, though demoralised, had a job to do. Their countless brethren were giving their lives on Oshaune at this very moment to bring an end to Terminid tyranny. Their sacrifices could not be in vain. On the battlefield and the freedomball field alike, Managed Democracy had to demonstrate its righteous dominance over the galaxy and the multiverse.

The Senators launched into the match with as much determination as they could muster, and they clung to it tighter than a Spear missile to its target. Unfortunately, the usual tactic of excessive aggression was immediately stalled, the un-brazen Bulls playing at their best on counterattack. Every opportunity collapsed into a meaningless melee for the first third of the match. Fortunately, the Senators were a rough-and-gruff team of (technically) elite special forces operatives. Whenever Lorentzen or Keegan tried to live up to their reputations, they were met by a soldier shouting "INJURY!? WHAT INJURY!?" at the top of their lungs. Of course, the barely-restrained stim self-injection reflex still cost focus and time, among the most valuable resources in competitive freedomball. Thankfully for the Senators, the Audioslavians had a numbers disadvantage. Presumably discouraged by the various anti-Automaton propaganda posters proclaiming the importance of "stomping out the bot", the world's first AI footballer was conspicuously absent from the match, definitely because of these concerns and absolutely not because he never really existed in a football-playing capacity in the first place.

One would assume exhaustion over the course of the match would favour the experienced world champions, not the up-and-coming hyper-aggressors still getting used to not being addled with drugs and adrenaline the moment they experienced a paper-cut or got slightly tired running to their objective. But by some miracle of Lady Liberty, the stars aligned for the Super Earth Senators. Teph and Cindy were at the top of their game- even the obscure, barely-noticed Catspaw managed several excellent passes. Fisher was also at his absolute peak, perhaps motivated by the ongoing liberation of his homeworld of Oshaune. Not a single attempted shot managed to pass the goliath by in the course of the entire match. Deadman, of course, was responsible for much of the aggression, supported by Lagrange's excellent ranging and later on by Ballast's expert positioning. Ret, who had gotten permission to study the victorious game of the Bulls, tried to replicate Yurán's match-winning goal-scoring distances no less than five times. Not a single one worked, but it spoke the confidence of the Senators that an attempt was even made. Somehow, by the end of the struggle, the Senators were victorious 3-0 against the reigning champions of the multiverse.

If Myrom had his way, they were carrying the resulting exhilaration all the way to the gold.

Very Totally Free

Very Totally Free was a nation of questionable title. After all, how could any polity truly be free without Managed Democracy? Clearly, this autosociofascist propaganda could not be allowed to stand. The Senators, used to defeating tyranny and almost as high on victory as they would normally be on Permacura-approved non-addictive* stims, blitzed through the match with the utmost intensity. The opposition put up an excellent defence, but couldn't stand up to the pressure in the end. Surprisingly, it wasn't Deadman who scored either goal in this match, the honours instead going to Cuff and Stripes in the later half of the match. With freedom's truth secured, the Senators were even more confident than every before.

Hubris never did any harm, right?

Liberal Party Headquarters, Hapilopper City
The day after the brawl in Parliament – 9:15 in the morning

It wasn’t often that Brett Booth got pissed off. Rare were his displays of frustration, even rarer were moments where he got downright pissed off. A backbencher from Garvinson once swore Brett cussed him out quietly after he defeated a bill of his years ago, but that was one time. This occasion, however, was different. Hours after a bench-clearing brawl interrupted, then canceled, a possible no-confidence vote regarding President Brett Booth, he sent a message to the entire Liberal side of Parliament.

“Meeting at 9:30 in the morning. This is mandatory. Set all business aside. Dress for a business meeting. We will be meeting all day.”

Unfortunately, that day was also a World Cup Qualifying match day. Many members of Parliament had wanted to sit in their local bar or at home all day watching qualifying matches, including Hapilopper’s match with New Montreal States. Members of Parliament looked sour as they walked into Liberal Party HQ and the huge meeting space they had. Brett was already present by the time the first members arrived. And many had gotten the memo about dressing appropriately, but not everyone did. Candy Bell, an MP from East Hampton, and Ricky Boone, an MP from South Hampton, walked in wearing Ellis Football jerseys. This didn’t sit well with Brett.

“I thought I told you to dress appropriately, this is a business meeting!” Brett snapped at them.

The party leader dressing them down rightly offended Bell and Boone, both of whom were part of the party’s left flank, but they kept walking along. Once 9:30 came, Brett rapped a ruler on a desk and got everyone to be quiet.

“Someone want to tell me what in the hell happened last night?” Brett groused. “Someone want to tell me why we had a huge brawl in the House of Parliament? You know, I ought to dissolve Parliament right now and have all of you thrown out! I’m sick and god damn tired of all of us acting like a bunch of assholes out in public! If we don’t have people getting drunk in public, if we don’t have people stealing golf carts and crashing them into gas stations, if we don’t have people mooning police officers, we get lawmakers fucking throwing punches at each other! You guys are supposed to be a standard that the rest of this country is to live up to! So, someone, PLEASE, tell me, why in the fucking hell we’ve got lawmakers throwing punches at each other and jumping on top of each other?”

“Listen, Mr. President,” started Bob Strange, the deputy leader of the Liberal Party. “You want to know what’s going on instead of you guys just jumping all over us like we’re the criminals here?”

“OK, fine, Strange, speak!” Brett snapped.

“First off, I don’t appreciate your tone. We got into it to defend you, and this is the thanks we get?” Strange started. “I got some Conservative douchebag staring us down, and he’s going to do this no-confidence bullshit! He’s putting out bullshit about how we’re so terrible and how we’re awful for supporting you. I called him a no-good motherfucker, and he dared me to do something.”

“So you punched him?” Brett asked.

“Yeah. He’s got some teeth missing, and he deserved it,” Strange replied.

There were some whoops in approval, something Brett didn’t appreciate hearing. He threw up his arms in frustration.

“Political violence, Strange,” Brett replied sharply. “You didn’t like what he did, so you punched him out. That’s political violence. That’s something we should have no patience for, and that’s something I have no patience for. You beat them in the marketplace of ideas, you don’t beat them into the ground.”

“Yeah, well, given he won’t shut the fuck up himself, I shut him up,” Strange shot back. “You’re welcome, Booth. And I accept your apology for the way you came about this.”

“Excuse me?” Brett asked. “I’m not apologizing for anything.”

“Yes, you are.” Strange snapped, getting up and walking toward Brett. “I stood up for you and you yelled at me in response. You’re talking about throwing me out of office because I stood up for you. People like you, who the fuck needs enemies, huh?”

Brett stared at Strange intensely and realized he wasn’t joking. Strange looked like he wanted to throw a right hook right then and there, and it was pretty easy to see why. Strange had felt betrayed by his own party leader for defending him. Brett, meanwhile, was concerned that these violent incidents had succeeded in making Hapilopper look really bad to other nations, especially when he was openly trying to clean up the nation’s image. He felt that Strange was doing him no favors – and in fact, hurt his own image and the image of the party as a whole – by punching the head of the Conservative Party.

“Make a move, asshole,” Brett said quietly but sharply. “You want to hit me? Hit me.”

“I don’t want to do that,” Strange said, just as sharply. “I did that because I’ve got your back. I want to know you have mine. I want an apology. I don’t want to fight you. I want this shit over with so we can go home, watch soccer and put this past us so we can fucking beat this fucking no-confidence vote.”

As the two stared at each other, daring the other to make a move, Brett’s attention was diverted by some whooping near the back of the room. Someone had gotten a cell phone out and was showing the Olastor-HOT-DAMN match. Cale Mallett from HOT-DAMN had just scored a goal in the 19th minute. That set Brett off beyond comprehension, and he stormed over toward the group. Strange threw his hands up in frustration, and with Brett distracted, Strange walked out of the room, out of the headquarters and toward his car.

“I thought I told you guys this was a business meeting!” Brett yelled at the group, who, like Bell and Boone, were part of the left flank of the Liberal Party.

“Well, what are we supposed to do, just sit on our thumbs while you sell your deputy down the river?” asked Tom McCluskey, a lawmaker from Hapilopper City. “You’re fucking this whole thing up. We’d like to be watching soccer right now. I got friends in New Hap City that wanted me to watch the match with them.”

“I don’t really care!” Brett snapped. “All of you guys care about is football! Football, football, football. Am I the only person in this stinking room that cares about the good of this country? Huh?”

McCluskey got up out of his seat and started to walk away.

“Where the hell are you going?” Brett yelled.

“I’m not going to listen to this. You know, you’ve lost control, and you’ve lost control of this situation. Nobody wants to be here. Y’all want to come with me?” McCluskey asked his far-left friends that were watching the HOT-DAMN game with him. Immediately, about 20 of them got up.

“Y’all leave this room, you’re leaving the party, and I’ll throw you out of Parliament,” Brett yelled.

“You can’t do that,” McCluskey shot back. “You want to kick us out of the party, fine, but tell my constituents I can’t serve them anymore. I fucking dare you.”

Brett went quiet. He looked at the front of the room, and saw Strange was gone too. He realized that yes, he had handled this situation very poorly, and yes, he had a rift in the Liberal Party on his hands.

The next day, those 20 MPs announced they had left the Liberal Party, and were forming a new party, the Social Hapiloppians. Strange, meanwhile, put out a statement saying he was strongly reconsidering his position as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, and that Brett Booth owed him an apology for the way the meeting had been handled. He appreciated the fact that Brett wanted to clean up Hapilopper’s image, but he was going about it absolutely the wrong way.

That night, when Brett informed Strange privately that no apology was coming, Strange announced publicly that he was resigning, immediately, as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, and that he was stepping down as a member of Parliament and leaving the party entirely.

The start of the road
Saperetia 1-4 Warkus

The draw has not been particularly gentle towards our national team. In the first four match days, the crimsonites are forces to reckon with the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th ranked team in group 24. Despite this tough situation our team finds itself in, Silivia is hopefull to beat Mouthenio's result in the qualifiers in cycle 93. To achieve this, he needs to get just over 0,81 points per game, or 15 in total during this cycle. Preparing for the first game, Silivia commented to the media that "he'll see what he can do." And as such, the standard SAP 4-3-3 lined up against the WAR 4-2-4:

Saperetia: GK Hranislav (C) DEF Abdelkader, Carloza, Damjan, Anatoliy MID Gil, Inget, Camilo ATK Jacques, Seppel, Seppo

Warkus: GK Benjamin DEF Owen, Piwter, Evans, Roberts MID Fallows, Williams ATK Castell, Emrys, Rose (C), Tarbutt

The match got underway to a bad start for our team. It was clear that the team, with this being their first professional match together, did not fit together well. As such, only ten minutes into the match, Warkus' captain Llewelyn Rose ran through the defense, putting the ball in the top corner with an incredible, unsavable shot. Despite conceding the first goal just ten minutes into the qualifiers, this did not fire up the team, leading to Rose scoring another solo goal another ten minutes later. Despite constant attacks, our team managed to fend off the attackers for the remaining 25 minutes in the half. Despite Silivia attempting to put motivation into his players, this did not seem to have any effect on our players as we were immediately on the defensive again. Just six minutes into the second half, midfielder Fallows sent either a perfectly placed shot or a lucky smash (depending who you ask) past Hranislav and into the net. Despite this looking like a decimation, our defense managed to hold on for dear life for the next 26 minutes, until in '77 a quick counter from our midfield managed to put the ball to Seppel, who managed to slot one into the net. While this brought a moment of hope, it quickly faded as in minute '79, Emrys managed to net the final goal of the game, ending it in a disappointing 1-4 loss.

While it was a bitter start at home, Silivia commented on the fact that we were playing against "one of the better teams out there", and promised not all games would end this way. He did warn though that these games would come later, pointing out the schedule of the crimsonites, which had "a tough first half". Unfortunately for the team, no-one disagreed with him on this fact.

Favourite demolishes though crimson
HUElavia 4-0 Saperetia

Coming off of a bitter loss against Warkus, many would hope the next match would be better. Unfortunately, the next match was away against rank 18 HUElavia, with this being the second time a national team of our faces one of theirs, as one of our teams faced them in World Cup of hockey 47, with that game being a 1-2 loss that officially sealed our exit from the competition. We now face them as they are favourites to top the group. While many hope that a loss could be avoided, that is just hope, and many were already looking at scores of 0-2, 0-3, 1-7 and 0-10. We relied on our defensive formation, as the SAP 4-3-3 walked out to face the HUE 4-3-2-1:

Saperetia: GK Hranislav (C) DEF Abdelkader, Carloza, Damjan, Anatoliy MID Gil, Inget, Camilo ATK Jacques, Seppel, Seppo

HUElavia: GK Ancel (C) DEF Lobo, Girard, Brandt, Yepes MID-DEF Wahle, Kim MID-ATK Serra, Schmidt, Milano ATK Arruda

Unfortunately, we conceded faster than ever in the previous match, as Milano scored in just the 3rd minute to already put the crimsons behind. And (what felt like just) 23 minutes later, Serra put the 2nd one in the net, to basically destroy any hope of points for our team. Some supporters already turned their TV's off and missed the foul and subsequent penalty by Canales in minute '52, which led to 3-0. Despite our fans in the stadium trying to make the best of it, some of them did fall silent by the 4th goal by Llopis in '83.

At least everyone agreed on something for once: two losses in a row weren't the end of the world, especially not against #18. Silivia managed to keep the support of the players, national federation, media, and fans, which led to him calling to turn up to the next match and make the most of it and show support to the team.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slimmer of hope leads to bigger devastation.
Saperetia 1-3 Indusse

Having faced the best ranked team in our group the previous match day, now game a slightly easier task: facing the second-best ranked team in our group. Our team's poor form led to many to dismiss any chances of Saperetia in this match. They were fighting for the top of the table, we were fighting to not be the worst. But still, some optimistic holdouts held out hope for a miracle, as the SAP 4-3-3 lined up against the IDU 4-3-3:

Saperetia: GK Hranislav (C) DEF Abdelkader, Carloza, Damjan, Anatoliy MID Gil, Inget, Camilo ATK Jacques, Seppel, Seppo

Indusse: GK Shehzad DEF Cyrus, Paulson, Akshay, Bhattacharya MID O'Shaugnessy, Grundjee, Djetson ATK Mersiás (C), Rahul, Djenko

The match began similar to the other two: Our crimsonites had less possession and were mainly playing defensively. Where this match did deviate is when the first goal came. Had you asked anyone before the match who would score the first goal, no-one would have said any of our players. And yet, after an interception by Carloza, played quickly to Seppel, he put the ball in the net and put the crimsonites in the lead, to the shock and surprise of even the most optimistic supporters. Many were not even done with being shocked (and overjoyed) as the referee blew for half-time with no further goals. That joy and shock would wear off in the 53rd minute, as a corner led to Mersiás heading one home and leveling the game. And joy would turn into despair as quickly afterwards, midfielder O'Shaugnessy set up Rahul for a shot which was saved but rebounded into the path of O'Shaugnessy, who then put it in the back before Hranislav could stand up. While hope for a potential draw held out, it ended in minute '88 as, even by admission of our own fans, a fantastic bicycle kick by debutant Vineeth (subbed for Rahul) flew from Hranislav's gloves into the net.

The lead, held for nearly a full half, meant there was at least some promise in this team. Silivia was quick to point that out, and tried to again spin the narrative of the tough start. The media, on their part, were quick to ask questions on how the coach planned to keep a lead the next time. Silivia was unable to answer.

Hope on the horizon?
Germanic Cat 4-2 Saperetia

The next game was supposed to be easier. Germanic Cat was 85 ranks lower than Warkus, the team we faced in MD1. Many of our fans were hopefull for at least a good showing, that could be used as a base to build off of into the next few match days. Silivia, rather disliking change, took the same team to the field as previously, as the SAP 4-3-3 lined up against the GCT 4-4-2:

Saperetia: GK Hranislav (C) DEF Abdelkader, Carloza, Damjan, Anatoliy MID Gil, Inget, Camilo ATK Jacques, Seppel, Seppo

Germanic Cat: GK ? DEF ?, ?, ?, ? MID ?, ?, ?, ? ATK ?, ?

The match began like all others had: The opposing team had better possession, better chances, better shots. And continuing in the trend from last game, there was one thing they didn't have: The first goal. A beautifull counter play occurred between our defense, midfield, and attack that saw Seppo net his first goal of the qualifiers in minute '26. Unfortunately, it became clear that Silivia didn't have a plan to hold on to the lead as the Crimson conceded two goals in quick succession, just 5 and 7 minutes after taking the lead respectively. Luckily, Silivia did have a plan to not concede more goals, which worked until half time. After half time, Silivia threw his plans out of the window and played on the counter again, bringing a goal in minute '52 from Seppel, and again two quick concession in minutes '55 and '59. After this, Silivia stuck to his original plan of "not conceding goals"

Silivia tried to spin this loss as "not that bad" and said each group expected to have a team perform "this bad", and that we were just unlucky to be in this position., especially since our opponents were the current top 4 of the group. That was until the media pointed out that we were the 2nd worst team in the entire tournament, just 1 goal ahead of Pichvi in group 19.

And yet. Our names are stitched within a chain:
Axelrod-Conway, queen in midfield court.
Kukiseso, with accents on the brain.
Foul-mouthed Stefred. Kivrin stood tall, though short.

Guttuso thrived beyond the timewall's bounds.
Ruan straddled both sides of the FTC.
Blum scored in the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds.
The shootout winners, Sibal and Troy-Vee.

The shootout moral victors: Barons, Hammers.
The aging Stings, white-clad, fleet off the bench.
Deguela and Yafor 2's filthy grammers.
Mathash and Card's names still cause hearts to wrench.

We still see shadows of the lights they shone.
The fans' memories are not theirs alone.

The Spenson Star

Audioslavian publication "The Aesthetic" has provided an impressive statistical overview of the historic, or not-so-historic, first cycles for 3,590 teams. Current newcomers lamenting their ill fortune can take heart from some of the noteworthy names in the bottom of the table. Some countries you might recognize include Banija (61th-worst cycle), Albundania (17th; they would be runners-up in World Cup 53), the Royal Kingdom and/or Independent Athletes of Quebec (11th), and Schottia (6th; they would go onto outperform Sosimo Lissón in his namesake metric).

But then, there are also historical curiosities to be found at the top of the list. Among them are: Northern Bettia (3rd), who won their Baptism of Fire and qualified for World Cup 33 at the first time of asking. Where the Aroras of Bettia were known for kindness and love of takil, their neighboring "Fire Ants" were outrageously violent cheaters.

9th are Cafundéu. Runners-up in the prior BoF, they qualified for World Cup 32. In an age where countless professional leagues compete in the IFCF and sign players from abroad, and photographic reproductions of matches and other phenomena are produced by electronic algorithms of ethically dubious standing, it's worth highlighting how the mercenary Lusophones pioneered these tactics avant la lettre. When there was no UICA or "Champions' Cup" to contest, they nevertheless scouted international talent and offered highly lucrative contracts to players from around the world, making clubs like Petardos S/A and Dunboor FC household names even far beyond the borders of what was then Atlantian Oceania. What would their graphic designers make of today's technologies?

Schorteskatascansolani (21st) were Northern Bettia's opponents in that Baptism of Fire final. They missed out on the proper, but would take third place in the 25th Cup of Harmony, hosted by the association of Jasīʼyūn (in the location then known as the Unified Capitalizt States and later referred to as Paripana, please don't ask). Their opponents in that third-place playoff were another side making their debut--Estresse Intenso, Cafundéu's poverty- and mental illness-stricken neighbors. At 94th in the Aesthetic rankings, Estresse Intenso are still above the vast majority of countries to partake in the qualifiers, but they don't even crack the top three in their own cycle.

Careful readers of the Aesthetic will recognize a couple other names from that class; BoF participants who put together respectable cycles in the qualifiers, but did not contest the CoH. Quintessence of Dust would go on to be better-recognized in the baseball world, while Kelssek have hosted multiple World Cups, to say nothing of their venerable Olympic performance.

There is another team linking nearly all of these participants from the class of 33. They played their first Baptism of Fire match against Northern Bettia, then faced Quintessence of Dust and Kelssek. They also played their first World Cup qualifier against Northern Bettia, and also faced Cafundéu. And after failing to qualify for the proper--or even the playoffs--they would defeat Schorteskatascansolani in the Cup of Harmony semifinals, before lifting that trophy at their first attempt.

We speak, of course, of Zwangzug (34th), and apologize to those of you who are rightly sick of all the bleeping retrospectives because yada yada cycle 100. But it's worth celebrating, again, just how vibrant that qualifying group was. Along with the Fire Ants and the Cafundelense seleção, Group 2 featured Ariddia--defending champions, World Cup founders, superb role models for annoyingly young idealistic socialist-types--and The Archregimancy--home of compelling liturgies and disturbing time portals. For worse or for better, the diversity of opponents on offer gave our predecessors a taste for just how weird and wonderful the world of football was, and, well, we've never really gone away. I mean, obviously we have. And returned several times. You can see it in the other tab of the spreadsheet. But you know what we mean. To the polyglots of Kelssek, the pretentious Quodites, and whatevertheheck you call people working on behalf of the association of Jasīʼyūn--our thanks are still due.

Soviet Kem Unveils New Youth Training Complex

By Bahav Xakin

The Soviet Kemrainan Association for Football has announced a new youth development project and complex, The Echo Grid. "Due to the average performance in the 100th World Cup so far, and Soviet Kem's new commitment to becoming one of the best footballing nations in the multiverse. We need this program, it trains our nation's best footballers, every position from keeper to striker is in The Echo Grid." said National Footballing Director, Shashim Corvis, "These young players have been sent into the Soviet Kemrainan mountains, in an undisclosed location, we are using new methods of training for each position, we are not allowed to disclose these methods due to the experimental and cruciality of this program. All that I can say at this time is that the first footballers of this program are almost ready for their national team debut, and I can say that The Echo Grid uses advanced algorithms to first choose the players, then are further narrowed down using different methods for each position, all to hopefully find the best Soviet Kemrainan youth players, and to form the best players in the multiverse."

ImageImage generated with the help of AI

After the press conference where this quote came from, the press conference was to announce The Echo Grid to the public, the people in attendance were given a pamphlet detailing the program. The pamphlet gave the philosophy of each wing (as broken down below), and the nicknames of each wing;

Goalkeeper Wing: The Citadel
Philosophy: Isolation, command, reflex under siege

Center Back Wing: The Wall
Philosophy: Anticipation, sacrifice, tactical dominance

Fullback Wing: The Corridor
Philosophy: Duality, timing, endurance

Defensive Midfield Wing: The Labyrinth
Philosophy: Control, interception, tempo

Attacking Midfield Wing: The Canvas
Philosophy: Creativity, vision, improvisation

Winger Wing: The Edge
Philosophy: Speed, isolation, disruption

Striker Wing: The Furnace
Philosophy: Ego, instinct, finishing

Shadow Striker Wing: The Veil
Philosophy: Disappearance, emergence, opportunism

I personally think that this program is excellent for the development of Football within Soviet Kem. If w the goals of the Association for Football are accomplished Soviet Kem will turn into a footballing powerhouse, as right now we play a slightly defensive style of football. This program should shift us into a slightly more attacking style of play, while still allowing us to have a great defense. I do wonder what this means for players like Zoinski, Gente, Roynk, Mosjow, and Putanik, as this may result in these young players missing out on national team call-ups with this new program, however for all I know they may have been in The Echo Grid before the World Cup. These players may also be put into a slight variation of this program so they can keep up with the players who partook in The Echo Grid program, but I could be wrong, simple due to the secrecy that this whole thing has been shrouded in.

OOC: I was slightly inspired by the Blue Lock anime while creating this, so I decided to expand it to all positions used by my national team, and a few more for some variability

Los Azules Win Away, But Lose At Home

The Langenian national team would finally gain their first win of the qualifiers in a 0-1 road victory over 96th-ranked Vetrahjart, the sole goal of the match courtesy of Los Azules striker Ricardo Antonio. Langenian goalkeeper Jose Angel would have a standout performance against an aggressive and attacking-minded opponent, displaying his capabilities as a sweeper-keeper and saving a few dangerous shots to secure the Langenian clean sheet. Angel would be assisted by a highly effective Langenian defensive backline who defended as a unit and limited to the best of their ability the amount of space Vetrahjart's forwards had to shoot. Center-back Miguel Alejandro would make multiple interceptions and clearances, allowing his partners Luis Fernando and Carlos Eduardo to play the ball forward and jumpstart counterattacks.

Tiring down Vetrahjart with their defensive performance in the first half, the Langenians would then capitalize to make multiple attacks of their own during the second part of the match. Forwards Oscar Galindo and Raul Guzman would make several dangerous runs into the opponent's penalty area and attempt to capitalize on through balls from Antonio and winger Samuel Esteban. However, Vetrahjart responded with a great defensive performance of their own, smothering Langenian attacks before they could become promising chances. As no progress was being made, both teams would result to longer shots outside of each other's penalty areas, some which carried more threat than the others. Langenian striker Antonio would put his team ahead in the 71st minute with one such effort many meters out from the Vetrahjart goal, a curling strike with enough venom to make it past the goalkeeper. As a result, the visiting Langenians would be able to escape with the three points by the time of the final whistle.

Next, Los Azules would play the Martian Independent Republic in a home game in front of fans in the Diego Talaman Stadium. Langenian manager Adrian Costa would play Los Azules in a defensive 4-4-2 formation against an attacking-minded, high-pressing, and high-energy opponent set up in a 3-5-2. The result would be a game in which The Spiders dominated possession, forcing the Langenians to defend deep and counter-press as much as they could to obtain precious touches on the ball. Los Azules goalkeeper Jose Angel would again have a standout performance, coming out of his area to collect multiple high crosses and loose balls, and then play long balls back to the forwards to initiate counterattacks.

Nonetheless, it would be The Spiders that would generate most of the goalscoring chances of the night, with Angel saving a low-driven shot at close range from forward Rohan Jowling, as well as collecting a cross from Giovanni Caballi that came close to being tapped in by Luke Garamond. Ultimately, Angel would be unable to save everything thrown at him, as a fast break from The Spiders would overwhelm the now-tired Langenian defense for substitute Sam Doyle to obtain a foul from Los Azules defender Juan Muñoz and set up an indirect free kick. The Spiders would score off the subsequent set piece with midfielder Albert Carver swinging the ball into the Langenian penalty area for Garamond to finish the chance and seal the defeat for the home team in front of the dejected Los Azules fans.

Langenia now faces their toughest opponent of the qualifiers yet in an away game against 10th-ranked Kelssek. Langenian football analysts comment that Costa's changed national team has shown flashes of promises in their games but also continued weaknesses for their opponents to exploit, such as a tendency to give away cheap fouls resulting in penalties or free kicks. It remains to be seen how well Costa's defensive set-up will work against Kelssek.

The Z felt smooth, yet powerful to drive. Very easy to maneuver, it would easily weave in traffic in the streets. Vinicius was enjoying his first moments driving the Sannis, taking in the handling and speed of the car. While traffic was starting to pick up a bit since it was the weekend, an idea popped up in his head. Vinicius knew that going northbound on the freeway would have less traffic compared to southbound. Given that home was further south, he knew the loop he'd have to take to get back down towards home. Many HUElavian highways were set up like a Deutches Autobahn, where some lanes were faster than others. And some of those stretches were clear enough that one can go flat out without anyone intervening.

He made the turn into the freeway and began moving along it. He felt excited speeding up and slowing down, as he weaved through some traffic. Some would honk at him for his fast driving, but he paid no mind. He'd make sure to look at the mirrors to be sure he wasn't going to clip any car and risk a crash. Eventually, he saw the signs declaring the "Rafael Rodrigues Highway," a 50 kilometer long stretch of highway that can lead a loop around to go southbound towards his home. He knew that at this hour the traffic will be much more dispersed and he can truly go flat out on this section. He turned on the radio on his Z, tuned to a channel he liked, 107.7 Trance FM, and saw the jockey announce the next song.

"Coming up, it's a popular favorite among our listeners, give it up for Blue Blazes!"

Vinicius began to floor it on the gas pedal. 72 kmh. 88 kmh. 104 kmh. 125 kmh. He kept on increasing more and more as the space began to open up. He'd weave right past different cars. The steering truly felt smooth, as if he was skating on ice, much like a hockey player. 136 kmh. 152 kmh. He could feel this car come more alive with each increase in the kilometers. He was beginning to feel more alive with each passing moment. So many times as a kid and teenager, he wanted to feel the thrill of driving fast on the highway, well into the evening and night. He looked down at the speedometer, now reading at 160 kmh.

M O R E.

Vinicius felt as if a voice had whispered to him. But it was an enticing voice. He felt as it caressed his neck, but also took a grip on his arms and legs. He hit the pedal even harder, and began to speed even more. 177 kmh. 193 kmh. He could see the taillights of the cars in front of him in a sense of motion blur as he would swerve past traffic.

Eventually, Vinicius noticed on his rear view mirror a pair of headlights. The lights approached more and more, but he couldn't tell what car was trailing him. Eventually it came into view, and noticed it was a black sports car, that seemed keen to pass him. Once again, the voice appears to him.

Competitive Games (Curated by Rifiño in Geektopia) edited by Andreika Rararch Sigi in Aimena) <======= You are here.

Shock and Awe in the Domestic Football World! Jonathan Krege of Salingam United FC fame released by Geektopian master outfit O.K. Mukladrue!

"I can't stop!," a comforting and familiar guttural cry rang around the training ground and you could count on it to do from the seventh season, where at this time the now thirty-year-old right-footed Indusse national had both signed a five year deal at O.K. Mukladrue and came into tutorage by then-assistant manager Yamrib Zinghszōhlceauiōl in the phonetics and later the structure of New Lingo as opposed to earlier executions of a language which were well-received at first but shown to be "poorly adaptive" according to Adbel-Dayem, a former writer at Geektivities and one of three individuals my editor Andreika Rararch Sigi and I successfully reached out to out of ten. From Sigi, "There is a truth to the concept of having more responsibility in assigning tasks to your editor, who you don't choose in this company, and resigning yourself to doing most of what you assign as tasks to your editor. I was handed a list of people to contact, and at the time, I'm prepped to do this thing and contact some of my knowledgeable friends to let them know about this before falling away from them, as they were in Gorudoowsukui at the time, whereas I would be traveling to Mukladrue and possibly Szīczya to meet Yamrib's counselor. I'll get to the background behind why Marc-Joseph Wabqalfa couldn't accompany his client later; so while I was preening at the reaches of my house in the aforementioned mass exporter of fishing rods and brittle bait, curator (Rifiño) actually did what he could with both his and my schedule/s without letting me know about his intentions first. Not that he had to, of course, for setting out three interview assignments to your editor (who doesn't interview well) and proactively telling them an hour after they packed their bags that they would only have to reach out to a third of the ten in that list is more than fair."

From Abdel-Dayem, "In those days, there was a healthy rugby environment which was keeping up with the frenzied popularity of football. So, yes, I enjoyed writing for Geektivities, and when I had to write, I usually didn't assign myself the nature of the articles nor the days they were to be written, as per the nature of the contracts. So in the Cup of Harmony 77 days, web editors were still trying to break their bottleneck and find some pleasant-looking medium through which they could convey to the web user, their largest and only demographic, of there being categories for articles that DID exist, while not trying to overburden (those same web users) with the information of how one person could classify an article that looked like it belonged in the Religion category by the writing style and nature of the working title of the article, where in length it may have talked about any number of things not related to religion. The one job title brought in by the revolution in front-end web development, classifier, draws on the idea I have posited in the previous sentence, with vague lines whose borders are touched and crossed at different points in the article and whatnot. Oh, but to answer your question on the language, it is poorly adaptable. A lot of these translations aren't preferred now, even though remittedly (in payment) the newer innovators in language will admit that elements of it, as in the thousand unique number designator words and processes by which you say one thousand fifteen or eighteen thousand one hundred fifty-nine, have been adapted, brought over, and were "too innovative" to ignore."

Over the course of sixty-odd games spanning two years in Geektopia's football temple, Krege wouldn't feel out of place even in a formation with four in the back, as it wasn't at Salingam United, although his service and role, like the individuals in the system around him, changed. This challenge—not an unlikely or disconcerting one given the personnel ins and outs at any club—crept up on him as a result of his choosing to go to O.K. Mukladrue for a fee, which questionably ruled out available Indussean talent priced at under one hundred thousand units of currency subject to O.K. Finibienu Letter's Anand Bangrah capture. Once over the course of his team's sixteen wins and four draws, Krege invariably went out to meet his compatriot Anand Bangrah in Letter, for it was where the latter lived; at the end of things, congratulatory plaudits directed at him from the organization for IFCF qualification came slower than those from defenders and attackers from rival systems which also went with four in the back because of these chance events. It can only be explained through words from Krege himself, "I think I have trained with him for years now without knowing it, and just how I didn't know it, well, there are things in your brain you switch off when you train at such a high level, both to come up to the Indusse national team and while in it. Not just the year after (I was signed) but well before coming here, I wanted to make sure he knew Mukladrue was the best fit and just as well, that other clubs would take turns auctioning a better salary each day. Surely, in everyone's life, there are clubs, projects, things that go by other names one needs to come back to, and things they need to get over." New Salingam agreed a buy-back clause with the Groundbreakers in Krege's signing year and it is best activated in this situation (the one where he's had to become a free agent after not being retained), so if you're ar eader and you're pining for some opinions which are reaching and unsubstantiated the line "there are clubs, ... one needs to come back to," may have this meaning. Just maybe.

The editor Rararch Sigi would not fail to keep the questions going, and some especially good ones with responses included are below. Of course, you, as the reader, need the context and explanation for these questions too, so that not less than a few things can be understood. Clubs that make up the "elite seventeen" are as likely to be rule-abiding as the parent association is to dock points and hand out transfer bans; that is to say, the more often judgements are handed down, the more things are in line. Some clubs know what it takes to stay up off of the pitch when the green is rubbing their way, some challenge the reluctance to come together and draft new and unrelated rules, and others—we'll have to get to that "unrelated rules" bit right now to establish why there is a growing knowledge of value metric construction for each position on the field. O.K. Alyatju broke the ground in this unusual but rather empty space of innovation in a tirelessly non-invasive way by positing that the knowledge of what measured a progressive carry be used first through two-axis camera mounts under software-addled heads. We know that even if this initially didn't work, it can be fixed by tampering from large-scale to small-scale. Under a working Internet connection, software on the cams enables capabilities said camera heads wouldn't have had before, and so details are imported into a database from the footage's designated spot between billboards advertising Three Peaks Coffee and the appearance of Sainterrissiot-Unimonite bassoonist and pop singer Megghan "IDAL" Ahfumdaoidal at Alyatju Arena. Building a data store for the feed captured is a challenge uniquely suited for O.K. Alyatju's ownership should the funds run dry at Three Peaks Coffee's football operations; they are the number one "addiction that is widely-consumed enough to not really be termed as an addiction" brand for coffee by several degrees of magnitude, are in a positive and certain place financially, and have decided to spread their name to the four bordering states next to Geektopia; the closest comparison you could make is with WkeiMdar over at O.K. Phantom Phalanges. Their humanitarian business and point of difference over other humanitarian businesses creates enough goodwill to take their total revenue—five hundred eleven million cryptos—above Hrza4Nova Lives, Co. at three hundred seventy five and a half million cryptos revenue. Typically, all revenue except two percent kept by WkeiMdar is donated to a different fund every year.

And bring on the questions*! Firstly, Krege was asked as to which bright spots—tactically, that is—existed on those occasions where passages of play were hard to be a part of and even harder to create. "If I haven't already, I'd like to extend my congratulations to personnel at O.K. Corinthians Bashi who made our passages of play, as you said, hard to involve myself in and nearly impossible to create, by their own involvement. I think there was some trouble with my fitness for a time owing to travel cramps, my own restlessness, and the faults of a 3-1-4-2 one defender used to a 4-3-3 may be quick to point out. As you may know, my difficulties were and still are with discipline; yes, there is space for circulation in these wider areas that we can run through or call runs through but when you're on a winger and they can cut something through you to another guy or cut through you themselves I learned through this time I should have been willing to communicate with my cover partner first. It's a good thing Perm (Perman Fasalbu) communicated with me first as even though he has the whole 'last-man' coverage thing down in three men at the back type system, I was new to it, inexperienced and thought I was getting in his way with my inclusion, which must have been noticeable at points before and after the Sheriff game I missed in my first season. When he offered to be my cover, and this he did in those high-pressure games where we couldn't build and just kept on getting attacked, I knew it wasn't going to be something I would forget very soon."

*That is, the one other question my editor asked. I come to figure out when calling Krege's phone the rest of these answers he told me about he was just making up.

WORLD CUP 100 QUALIFIERS
Frain's National Team managerial career in jeopardy?
Agilang Dilaw lose further ground in Qualifying Group 20 after TJUN-ia loss

NUEVO SAN MARCO - Thousands of fans attending at the Nuevo Estadio Nacional would go home disappointed after a poor showing from the Sangti and the Filindo Isles national team, succumbing to a 0-2 defeat to top-seeded TJUN-ia in their ongoing qualifying campaign for World Cup 100, which have caused uproar in social media sites to replace current national team manager Vicenzo Frain.

The Delecour native, who have held the reins of the Agilang Dilaw since their debut in multiversal football competitions, has faced increasing pressure of taking the national team to their breakthrough World Cup finals, after two anonymous campaigns in World Cup 98 and 99. Regional performances have not been stellar as well, as the team missed the registration for the most recent Campionato Esportiva due to the reorganization of the football federation and the suspension of league play for the past few years.

The team clad in yellow had to wear black shorts for the match due to a color clash with the Jaguars's shorts, with rumors of Libertad Sportswear contacting the FA to enhance their current kits which is currently supplied by their subsidiary, NNS. The match itself was full of chances squandered by the host side as Tomio Sulangi failed to head home the potential opening goal in the 6th minute. The wasted chance was punished by the visitors, who broke through goal in the 15th minute courtesy of skipper Diana Sharafutdinov when a sloppy pass in the midfield was intercepted by Stephanie Barrientos. The shot from the Dhun Lagarr forward gave Aldrin Lucero Labawig no chance to save.

Both teams threatened to score in the next 50 minutes, but it was the visitors who put the game beyond doubt in the 67th minute. Sharafutdinov had another chance to score, but Labawig parried the ball for a TJUN-ia corner. The resulting play led to Jerome Mawae heading the ball amid a frantic jostling for position inside the SFI penalty box. The goal doubled the Jaguars' lead and they never turned back, despite Owen Makalintal's late chance needing Fatemeh Yektaei to extend their arms just to keep the Agilang Dilaw scoreless in front of their own fans.

The loss puts SFI further behind in their quest to qualify for the World Cup finals after starting their campaign on a 3-3 draw against Surne. Despite this, they have played less games compared to the top teams in the group, TJUN-ia and Choppyhausen. The Agilang Dilaw travel to Behh before hosting the latter of the currently-top placed teams which will prove to be a crucial six-pointer. The "Team in Teal" have already made a scalp by beating Valentine Z, and Frain would not want to experience the same fate in the upcoming encounter. The manager has confirmed that he will make some changes by giving the newly capped youngsters in the Behh match before evaluating the final starting lineup in the Choppyhausen match.

ALINA

Three days had passed since the Great Resonance Shift, and things were starting to finally settle down a bit. Electronic were still down, but the Chromatiks had an ace up their sleeve when it came down to communication: the Yesopalithans among them. The innate magic in a lot of the Yesopaltihans somehow worked in the dimension/plane that they were in, and the Yesopalithans were able to help in many ways: from putting an artificial darkness in the sky for eight hours a night to allow the populace to sleep, to establishing communication across the island between Yesopalithans that were near Chromatik groups, to succeeding to planeshift to the dimension/plane that they had come from.

The latter had led to the successful reconnection with the Yesopalithans in Freedom's Altar, where Alina was now sent to oversee two main objectives: The spreading of the news to all Chromatiks that still existed in their original dimension to either stay put or make their way to Freedom's Altar, and the creation of a planar gate that would allow the Chromatiks/Yesopalithans to have an established point of egress to go back and forth between the two nations. Nirdasil, the Dark Crusader, the Leader of the Yesopalithan people, was willing to continue to help the Chromatiks get back on their feet - with the promise that the two nations would renegotiate the reparations for the Abyssal Invasion of the eastern half of Myana Island. If Chromatika hadn't had their Yesopalithan allies, they would've been in much worse shape - that was a fact that could not be denied.

As Alina Krasnikova watched three Yesopalithan magic-smiths continue to work on the planar gate, she could hardly believe the place that her life had been in. She was a member of the Chromatik Party as a Secret Police officer, than a contributor to the Rainbow Revolution, then the First Premier of Chromatika. She was the founding head of the Chromatik Secret Service, a member of the Chromatik Security Council, and now, the one in charge of overseeing the making of this gate.

With one final hum, the planar gate roared to life, and the event horizon came into being that separated Yesopalitha from where Chromatika now was. Since the gate was big enough for four people to step through at once, they started sending supplies through. The other dimension's air was breathable, the light was conducive to grow plants, and there was enough space; however, there were no seas surrounding the island.

Fishing could still continue around Yesopalitha with the catch being sent through the new planar gate, and other items would be sent through as well. They now had a way to go back and forth, and this would allow them to start to figure out exactly what had happened to their homeland to cause them to be here.

JORDAN

Three days after the Great Resonance Shift, Jordan Lawless found himself doing exactly what he did best: Chasing down a story, especially one that pertained to the Chromatik people instead of the Chromatik government. Thirty thousand people had been documented as missing in the first hours after The Shift; the established total after three days was now at over a hundred thousand souls that had mysteriously disappeared.

Apparently, pockets continued to appear around the country that seemed to draw people to check them out. When they got too close, they were mysteriously sucked in by a mysterious source of light. Three such instances were caught on camera, and the Chromatik scientists were on task trying to figure out what was going on.

Thankfully, the Yesopalithan magicians had been able to develop a spell that could counteract the draw toward the portals; they were now present to counteract the affects of whatever had infected the country, and the rate of abductions were decreasing every day.

They couldn't keep this up, though - which was why Jordan was on the trail, talking to the scientists every day to get the latest theories. Since it had been determined that the Yesopalithans' magic was altering the frequency of the spectrum of light emitted to stop the light from triggering impulses in the human brain, the scientists were now trying to figure out where the light was coming from.

The ominous word on the sky was still there, and any time it was looked at - by Chromatik, Yesopalithan, Elf, Unbidden, or other - the message was still the same. What was welcoming them, and for which purpose? Was the force behind the writing responsible of the abductions that had taken place?

Sure, trying to figure out how to translate back was important, but it wasn't as important as figuring out what had happened to the Chromatik populace.

The Big One

Nathan Held stood in his box on the sideline, grimly observing the scene in the closing seconds as his Eagles closed up a rough loss to Indusse. His team continued to attack, looking for a goal to lessen the sting, but the whistle went promptly as the clock ticked over the 95th minute. Another glance up at the scoreboard reminded Nathan of the rough 3-0 scoreline. In the end, the Eagles’ fellow independents exposed the flaws in their defense yet again, as the boys in green and red again allowed three goals to Indusse, for the fourth time in four matches against that team, totaling three losses and a draw.

Nathan quickly shook hands with Pierre Camanin before heading down the tunnel to the dressing room, contemplating the defeat. Deep down, he knew things were not as bad as they seemed, that this loss didn’t matter quite so much, that one point from this window against the top two teams in the group was, in reality, not bad at all. But a look at the standings would reveal the Eagles sitting smack in the middle with five points, already four behind second-placed Germanic Cat.

Strength of schedule was clearly playing a role. The Eagles had played the other three of the top 4 teams in the group already and come out with five points to show for it. But, as much as we wanted to, Nathan couldn’t shake the idea that his Eagles were further down than they should be. The international window that had been billed as the decider of the Federation’s World Cup Qualifying campaign had turned out to not clear up much of anything.

The biggest issue, Nathan realized as he continued his slow walk down the tunnel, was that he’d gone up against Indusse four times now, and been outfoxed tactically each time, only securing a single point at home in the last Qualifiers thanks to the Eagles’ always-strong offense. But today, the offense had failed, generating pressure and some chances, but failing to convert on the opportunities earned. It was worrying to say the least.

As Nathan opened the door to the dressing room, he flashed back to the draw against HUElavia earlier in the week. For once, his tactical adjustments had worked, as he dropped Gioele Schmid in favor of the experienced Atreju Lau, bringing a fourth defender into the fold and creating an unusual 4-1-3-2 formation. It had worked, shutting down HUElavia very effectively while the Eagles managed a few attacks at home in what turned out to be a yawner, but a yawner that brought points for the Eagles against one of the 20 best teams in the world.

Nathan had some adjustments to make, it seemed. Things would likely stay the same for a little while, as the Eagles would require a more aggressive mindset when facing the lower-ranked they were due for the next few windows, but when the Eagles entered their next key window in a few months’ time, facing Warkus and HUElavia, Nathan would have some new tactics ready to go.

As Nathan continued to gather his thoughts, his players trickled into the dressing room in ones and twos, grim faces on each. Nathan’s speech, once they all arrived, was short and to the point, as was his standard. “That was shit. We need to be better. The good news is, next time we’re at our place, and I know we will be better.” There were no cheers, no smiles. The team piled back on the bus, headed to the airport, back to the Federation, or elsewhere for some of the players abroad. In the coming days, their managers would notice a quietness, yes, but also a single-minded dedication to training, and to being better.

The Man From Latbach

Simon Brun, as far as the Osnari government or any reasonably reputable person knew, was a perfectly normal Osnari citizen. He lived a mile or so outside of Latbach, that small, quaint outpost of Surisian culture, with the pretty architecture and unique food that came with it. Simon particularly enjoyed the bratwurst, best served by Karl’s, the Surisian restaurant on Main St, just down the road from Nebelrain Lane, home to Surit Latbach of the Drittliga Nord, in the third tier of Osnari football. He attended the Latbach match most Saturday afternoons, followed by a meal at Karl's and a trip to the grocery store.

Simon was tall and full-bearded. He went to church on Sundays, paid his admittedly rather limited taxes, and even owned a dog, a beautiful golden retriever named Coco, all facts that would eventually come to public light. He was, to all eyes, the model Osnari citizen.

In later interviews with his neighbors, the only unusual thing they could recall was the weekly arrival of a run-down blue car whose driver, a shorter, blonde-haired man in working clothes, they had never met. Simon would leave late Saturday morning, watch the Surit Latbach match, enjoy his bratwurst from Karl’s, grab his groceries, and return to find the blue car’s driver awaiting him. They would go inside for a few hours, and the blue car would leave, headed north, the same way it had come. It was peculiar, to be sure, but not much more peculiar than some of the other folks who lived in and around Latbach, and Simon’s neighbors prided themselves on being good, honest folk who kept to themselves in the spirit of the groves of trees that separated houses outside of town. The few times Simon was questioned about it, he shot it down, staying vague but good-natured. The more conspiratorial among the townsfolk suggested a lover, something quickly dismissed by their peers, citing Simon’s obvious piousness at a church preaching such activities as sin.

To those curious, Simon called himself a logger and sometime hunter, often venturing deep into the forest on Sunday afternoons alongside some of Latbach’s other menfolk in search of deer and the occasional bear. Though he often impressed as a marksman in his hunting endeavors, his slightly overweight build suggested he was managing the logging rather than doing it himself. He worked long hours, and not anywhere known to the locals. He left before dawn, headed north on weekday mornings, returning from the same direction after dusk. He was, at the end of the day, just another eccentric in a town with plenty of them.

The investigators would later determine that the events that would lead to a nationwide fascination with this local eccentric were set in motion sometime in late September 2027.

A Bud Reborn? Grod Island Rise From the Dirt with Back-to-Back Revival Acts
By Leni Haravo, Senior Football Correspondent

After two heavy defeats that left the country embarrassed, Grod Island have finally woken up. Four games into the group stage, the Water Lilies have found their rhythm, beaten two sides, and have at least started looking like a proper football team again.

It is still far from perfect, but compared to the shitshow against Milchama and Annestah, this looks like progress.

Matchday 3: Mindhart 1–4 Grod Island

After being outscored 11–1 in their first two games, Grod Island came into this one as by all counts, the underdogs to Mindhart, a team that, while ranked lower (336), had the kind of spirit to not capitulate against a much stronger side like Vdara. But Tomas Raveka’s men finally decided enough was enough.

The first goal came early. In the 14th minute, striker Naroto Pami pressed a loose touch out of the Mindhart centre-back, nicked the ball, and shot low into the far corner. The finish was clean and confident. It lifted the entire team.

From there, Grod Island controlled the tempo. The CM duo of Taminke Ora and Karo Yavene worked hard in midfield to win second balls, and the fullbacks pushed high without leaving gaps behind. The second came in the 27th minute when captain Maro Javiri met a corner with a firm header. By halftime it was 3–0, with Evan Rani sliding one in after a neat one-two.

Mindhart pulled one back from a deflection midway through the second half, but it barely mattered. Rani added a fourth from a cutback late on, scoring his brace. The final whistle brought relief and joy to the travelling Grodian fans. The team had finally done what was expected of them.

Raveka spoke to press after the match, “This is what we trained for. We finally got a chance to execute our game plan exactly as we wanted. You know, with this win, we should now be able to put up an actual fight. You respect the process, it will reward you.”

Matchday 4: Grod Island 1–0 Middle Alba

This one was tight, physical, and full of fouls. Middle Alba sat deep and tried to frustrate us, and for most of the match it worked. Grod Island had possession but struggled to turn it into real chances, as every attack seemed to end with a deflection or a clearance into the stands.

The first real opportunity came in the 39th minute when Evan Rani cut inside and tested the keeper from range, forcing a good save low to his left. The game got scrappier after that — Tami Ora picked up a yellow card for a clumsy tackle on the counter, and a few minutes later, Daren Kolopa joined him in the book for a late challenge near the touchline.

The breakthrough finally came late. In the 83rd minute, when Lano Kure stood over a free kick about 25 yards out. His shot dipped and hit the bar, and substitute Daro Pena reacted first to smash in the rebound. It wasn’t pretty, but it counted, and the stadium erupted.

Keeper Riko Aneme had his best game yet. He made a total of eight saves, with two excellent saves in the final minutes, including a fingertip stop from a looping header in stoppage time. Those saves secured the points and maybe, just maybe, steadied the campaign.

The Table and the Task Ahead

Four games in, Grod Island now sit fifth in Group 11 with six points. The goal difference is very very ugly, but at least the team now looks competitive. Next comes Sector 18, a side ranked lower and coming off a 4–1 loss. It’s a must-win if Grod Island want any real chance of moving up the table.

After that, it’s Vdara, the best team in our group, ranked 25th, with three wins from three. It’ll take determination, discipline and sharp defending to stay in that game and not have a repeat of out Milchama horror show.

It’s easy to get carried away after two wins, but the truth is simple: Grod Island are improving, not thriving. The back line is still shaky under pressure, and too many attacks rely on Rani doing something by himself. Still, six points from four games is something to build on.

The team finally looks like it belongs on the same pitch as the others. That alone is an improvement worth noting.

A Slightly Unhelpful Guide to StrayaRoos - Regions - Part 4

Postby StrayaRoos » Thu Oct 30, 2025 12:38 am

note: there may be a second post from me tomorrow morning, with match reports for both of my window 2 matches, but it's unlikely. So I'm posting this now to at least have something this window.

Previous entries in the series

A Slightly Unhelpful Guide to StrayaRoos - Regions
Part 4 - Eastern StrayaRoos
From the largest state by area, we go to the smallest, Eastern StrayaRoos [technically Ulladulla’s the smallest state, but constitutionally it’s recognised in this weird grey area that allows it parliamentary representation, but not full statehood, as a leftover from the time the Barrier Islands were part of StrayaRoos proper], The state was the nation’s first major international trade hub, mainly receiving imports into the twin port cities of Coal Coast and Retana from the Ochre Islands, Cardenao, as well as south-west Nova Calania. The state’s early development relied strictly on sea freight as well as the Trans Roosian Railway, which was completed in the early 1900s. This is largely why it’s the most concentrated population-wise, with 60% of the state’s population living in the Coal Coast & Retana municipalities, and just 10% living outside of one of the other big two municipalities (Coralsa and Ahala). Although over the past 30 years, various motorway projects and commuter rail service improvements have made the number of people living outside the 4 biggest municipalities grow from just 4% in 2000.

Politically, the state tends to lean progressive, although is easily the nation’s most centrist state, with both major parties having spent about the same amount of time in power, heavily benefitting from it being the only state to keep FPTP into the 1980s, when it then changed to a two-round system similar to IRV (as in, voters marked preferences, then the top two on first preferences go to the runoff directly), and later regular old IRV like everyone else. Another interesting piece of the state’s politics was it becoming the only one to toy with an indirectly elected upper house, known as the State Council, which seemed to function more as a permanent unity cabinet, with all 5 (later 7) members receiving the ‘core’ state portfolios (Treasury, Transport, Health, Attorney-General & Regions, with Energy and Infrastructure being added when it was expanded in 1984). While the electoral procedure was arcane and too difficult to explain easily without this guide turning into a rant, it was balanced to ensure no party held a majority of the seats. It was replaced in 1996 with a conventionally (at least for Roosians) elected upper house named the Senate.

Language-wise, aside from English being near-universally spoken, you’ve got Dharawal spoken by about a third of the state, and various other smaller languages spoken by no more than 2% each.

AVIOIBSIA INTERMEDIARY

FIRST FLIGHT: 1947
WINGSPAN, METERS: 36.8
NO. SEATS: 36
SPEED, KNOTS: 240
WEIGHT, TONNES: 30.9
NO. BUILT: 237
This Kanzlian piston-engined liner was Avioibsia's last piston-engined aircraft to enter production.

So, we're in a bit of a civilian liner mood today and unfortunately Kanzlian aviation history doesn't take so kindly on domestic liners. So why not go back to perhaps the two most successful civilian liners we've had? And by successful, I mean more than 100 was built. That's the scale we're working with.

As mentioned in our previous installment with the Triav Series-M, the airline industry in Kanzlia today is rather abysmal but in the 1950s that was not entirely true. Rail transport was still the general norm but it faced an existential threat with the popularity of automobiles. Suddenly personal freedom became a huge part in Kanzlian society, certainly not promoted by the domestic automobile industry, wink wink nudge nudge. But what does automobiles have to do with the air industry? Thing is, the domestic automobile industry also promoted air travel mostly because it was flashy and modern, just like automobiles! Or something like that.

With more efficient means of refining aviation fuel, there was an air travel boom in the 40s and 50s as flying became affordable not just to the 10% but now also the 30%. Domestic airlines also went all in with providing the most luxurious experience whilst flying, with comfy seats and pretty good food. Atleast below 3000 meters up in the air. However there was just one teensy tiny problem, there wasn't enough planes to accommodate all the sudden demand. In 1943 there was just a total of 250 planes servicing nearly four million curious people with disposable income!

To meet the demand, Avioibsia began internal development for a new regional liner in 1943. Their progress was quite slow in the first year as Avioibsia was busy with the Schatzki-Avioibsia J.V. Ardent project (which we'll get to in another time). Due to the slow progress and Avioibsia struggling to divide their attention to their many many other projects, their regional liner program took a more pragmatic if unelegant turn. Avioibsia decided to take the base of their bomber aircraft, the Avioibsia Defender (L-2), and build from it. The Defender was relatively robust having served in the Kanzlian Air Force for 7 years now without much issue. But did you catch that? Seven years. Which meant that by 1945, Avioibsia was working on an airframe designed in 1938! It did meant that Avioibsia had their work cut out for them. They really only had to redesign the fuselage and the internals. Which whilst a huge feat, lets not kid ourselves here, it is a much easier workload than designing an aircraft from scratch. By 1947 they already had a flying prototype and customers were already lining up.

However... this was 1947. Turboprop technology had slowly establish themselves but a new technological leap was right around the corner. The jet age was about to come, and the march of technological progress waits for absolutely no one. Avioibsia knew this and decided to pump out the Intermediary like there was no tomorrow. 130 units was produced in two years between 1948 and 1949 alone. After that, the orders understandably dried up. Avioibsia though, completely expected this and quietly began an upgrade of the Intermediary with jet engines as soon as the first Intermediaries was shipped out to airlines which would become the Avioibsia Continental, the next topic infact. So, really, the Intermediary was obsolete by the time the first orders came out. 107 additional units, known also as the L-3, was purchased from 1950 to 1953, mostly from various militaries for paratrooping duties. The last Intermediary in civilian service was retired in 1956 whilst the last Intermediary in military service was retired in 1970.

Today 13 units are still in flying condition, all of which are privately owned by parachuting and skydiving clubs and the like. The Museum does not have an Intermediary in its collection, but we do have its sister plane the Avioibsia Continental. The cards classification falls on rank 5 due to its historical significance.
Image

On the technological side of things, this was Kanzlia's first pressurised civilian aircraft as it inherited the airframe of the Defender. It's rather low capacity of 36 was due to the fact that a rather large on-board kitchen was built in. Remember, this was when airlines pride themselves in luxury.

It was a gray fall day in the Saône valley, but a few players from the ÉNRF were out for a jog. Gerauld and Franky had been close friends for years now, so whenever Franky was in Reçueçn City for ÉNRF training, Gerauld would hang out with him—Franky had shared many dinners with the Firauts, and they had been to the gym together even more often. Right now they were running along a trail on the riverbank just outside of town. Franky had invited his best friend, Emanuele Cutrona, and Gerauld had insisted on inviting Lukas Kayserling, the only other player who'd been on the team as long as they had. Emanuele and Franky were running in front while Gerauld and Lukas tried to keep up.

"Man, I'm getting old," groaned Gerauld. "I swear this run used to be easier!" Beside him, Lukas panted wordlessly.

Franky turned over his shoulder to banter with his captain. "You never could keep up with me, Gerauld," he began to say, and then his foot caught where a root had pushed up a wrinkle in the pavement, and he stumbled, nearly losing his balance.

Gerauld laughed. "Look out, Franky. Seems like you're not invincible anymore either."

Franky cursed at Gerauld, while Emanuele laughed.

"He's not wrong, Franky," he said. "You've been around a long time."

"I got a headstart as a kid," said Franky.

"Yeah, how old were you when you got your first call-up? Like sixteen?"

Franky grunted.

"Sometimes it's hard for me to believe you three are the only ones left who've been on the team longer than I have," Emanuele went on. "Or that I've been there longer than any of the others. We're all old now."

"Less talking, more running," grunted Gerauld.

He looked to his left as they ran, watching the river flow past. A few crews of rowers were out in their sculls. The gray waters reflected the clouds above. A couple seagulls called noisily, surveying the scene from above and drifting on the cool fall breeze. Gerauld had a distinct feeling that the onset of fall weather had dampened his spirits for exercise; it had been much easier to motivate himself to go for a long run during the beautiful warm summer days of a month or two earlier. At least right now with Franky and the team in town it was easier to get himself to go out on a run.

"Okay, I usually go to that next bridge you can see around the bend there," said Gerauld, as they came around a curve in the river. "Let's catch our breath there, turn around, run back, and finish strong."

"Sounds good," said Emanuele.

In a couple minutes, they were standing in a circle under the bridge. Emanuele leaned down with his hands on his knees to catch his breath, while Gerauld and Lukas leaned back, hands on top of their heads, elbows up, trying to pull more air into their lungs. Franky tried to look casual and play it off like he was less tired than anyone else, but his face was beet red.

"I know we were talking about being old," said Emanuele, "but has it really gotten this bad? We didn't use to stop before we turned around to head back."

Gerauld shook his head in sad agreement. "I'm not sure how much longer we can even stay on the team," he said. "Think about it. The Baptism of Fire was eighteen years ago? It's time they let us go, honestly."

Franky coughed and glanced around, trying to catch his teammates' eyes. He opened his mouth, but hesitated. Gerauld looked at him.

Emanuele raised an eyebrow. "Spit it out, Franky."

"I think I'm going to retire at the end of the World Cup," said Franky. "I used to stress out about what my career would be after I couldn't play professionally anymore. For a long time I thought I'd drag it out for a long time, maybe play at a lower level. But I want to stop at the top. I think I have something lined up for next year, so I'm not scared of retirement anymore."

"Seriously?" said Emanuele. "You didn't tell me?"

"I was going to!"

"Me too," said Lukas. "I know I won't get another call-up. Might as well throw in the towel."

"Honestly, it's probably time for me too," said Emanuele.

"For all of us," said Gerauld. "It would be nice to play one more World Cup though. Especially number one hundred. That's not a bad number to retire on."

"You don't have to retire!" said Franky. "You're a goalie, you could go a few more years!"

Before Gerauld could protest, footsteps echoed under the bridge. The group looked up to see two more of their teammates approaching from upstream: Héloïse Asselineau, and Gerauld's daughter, Rébecca. Rébecca's face lit up as she recognized her dad.

"Hi Papa!" she said cheerfully, as she and Héloïse slowed down to jog in place. "I didn't know you were running here today!"

"Did you run here all the way from the stadium?" asked Héloïse. "You oldheads are insane. I could never run that far in one day."

Franky and Emmanuele looked at each other. "Uh, yeah, the stadium," said Franky.

"Record time today," said Emanuele.

Gerauld was about to say something despite a glare from Franky, but to the striker's relief, it was Rébecca who said something first.

"Wanna run back together? We can race you guys."

Franky's relief switched to instant regret. "Uh, well you see..."

Gerauld and Lukas shared a glance and a nod. "Okay," said Lukas. "Readysetgo."

Franky, Emanuele, Rébeca and Héloïse took off at a sprint, heading back down the river. Gerauld watched them go with a laugh. Rébecca and Héloïse were already off to an early lead."Hopefully that'll teach Franky to try to impress the girls."

"He'll never learn," said Lukas.

"You're probably right," said Gerauld. "Come on, let's head back."

The sound of the river mingled with the pair's footsteps as they began to jog again. Gerauld thought he felt his knee twinge. "Punaise, he was right the first time though. It's time for us all to retire."

Yangchenia Blazing Dragons
"In the flames of sport, our iron will is forged"

Yangchenia loses 0-1 to Sernet on away match
Another loss

“The Dragons move on to their next match against Sernet. Hopefully fate has better plans for the team.”

Optimism for the Dragons’ further victories was significantly hampered by the team’s performance in their first two matches in the world cup. One draw, one loss — the team had yet to score a win in the prestigious sporting competition, in contrast to their single win during the Baptism of Fire. All they could hope for was to at least hold their ground against more powerful teams. Hu Winwei had hoped this next match would be different, but when he heard that Yangchenia would face off the team of Sernet next - he was certainly not convinced of victory. He had heard other’s remarks about his team — most commonly critiquing his choice of players, significantly of a more advanced age than their adversaries. Damdul Gyatso receives most of the critique — at 54 years old he was definitely a lot older than many of his goalkeeper counterparts. But he stood by his decision, and was against sending in a backup. He chose these people for a reason, not for their background in the sport, but for their spirit and determination to push on, even in the darkest of times.

And little did he know, that decision might have saved the Dragons from going completely under.

As the matchday arrived — the Dragons’ got a small respite for being the bye team for the next day, meaning they would only have one match to play. Certainly needed given the condition of the team. Matchday 3 featured the match against the team of Sernet - of a similar rank to the Yangini team. Thousands tuned in to Sports TV to watch the Dragons’ third match in the World Cup — hoping for the same miracle that helped the country hold their ground last match. Better yet, a much needed victory to the ailing team.

The match began with chaos in the field as the Serneti team made numerous breakthroughs through the Yangini lines. At the same time, offense players Wu Hsaing and Tsamchoe Thaye struggled to break through Sernet’s defensive line, their backlines solid and organized. Damdul Gyatso had his work cut out for him — almost half of the Serneti team coming straight at him. For many Dragons fans it seemed like the end — that the Serneti team would absolutely bury the Dragons in points.

However audiences say something struck in Gyatso during that moment. At 54 years old he was certainly past his prime, but it didnt mean he couldnt put up a fight. Even in his older form he still possessed enough strength to rival several people. He looked to his fellow players, valiantly fighting on against the odds — and it was then he realized.

The Dragons’s strength lay not in accomplishment.
But in the ability to stand up in the face of adversity.

And so as if he regained his youthful vigor he successfully blocked shot after shot, holding back the Serneti team’s attacks. They passed the ball back and forth, hoping to throw Gyatso off, however he remained focused, his eyes locked onto the ball, his spirit determined to fight on. By halftime, the score was still at 0-0, and Gyatso had successfully held off the Serneti advance.

But by halftime’s end, things were different. The Serneti team made less breakthroughs than before, however this time, Gyatso alone couldnt stop their advance through the Yangini lines. Then, on the 56th minute — the breakthrough happened, and Serneti player Sporius Bolsting managed to get a goal, turning the score 1-0 in favor of Sernet.

Despite the Serneti team now being in the lead, the Dragons held firm, their fans holding onto hope. The Dragons had pulled back from worse before — and every match has shown that no matter what happens, the Blazing Dragons never back down. Calling for a timeout at the 61st minute, Hu Winwei knew what must be done. The Dragons couldnt play defense anymore. If they were going to at least draw this game, it was time to go on offense.

Their choice was clear. Aside from the original forwards Wu Hsaing and Tsamchoe Thaye, Winwei also assigned Yesui Erkhet — known for her speed and fearsome nature to also go on offense, as well as Li Yunming and Sasha Saizi, also one of the faster runners in the team.

By the timeout’s end, the Dragons returned to the pitch — bearing the same formation as before, however now with new roles. And as the match progressed, things seemed to turn. The Yangini team was making breakthroughs left and right — Hsaing and Thaye punching deep into the Serneti lines, while Yunming managed to gain possession of the ball from the Serneti team, passing it to Erkhet then to Saizi, who passed it to Hsaing. The Dragons were now close to the goal.

However as Wu was about to score, the ball was seized by Oluwawa, making a beeline through the open Yangini defenses. However Saizi managed to stop Oluwawa in his tracks, running past other Serneti players and made a shot for the goal on the 74th minute. However, the Serneti goalkeeper Pasarowski reacted quickly, blocking the ball with his chest. However audiences could see that the block hurt, Saizi’s kick powerful enough to cause quite a bruise to Pasarowski.

However the Dragons’ efforts failed to bear fruit, the Sernetian team blocking Hsaing’s attempt for the goal on the 81st minute and Erkhet’s attempt on the 88th minute, ending the game 0-1, with a Sernetian victory.

With the loss to Sernet, the Yangini team was knocked to the bottom of the leaderboard for their bracket, representing a devastating morale hit for many Dragons’ fans. Others however remained hopeful for a potential comeback, however with the team scheduled to face Yuezhou, ranked 35 — optimism is inhibited at best. Now with 2 losses, 1 draw, 0 wins — the Blazing Dragons prepare themselves for their next matches against Yuezhou on Matchday 5, and Free Republics on Matchday 6 — in what will decide whether or not the Blazing Dragons will move on from the elimination round.

Saizi was born as Sasha Trubdzen Saizi on 31 March 1998, to a poor working class family in Samdrup Kalpo. She is the sole daughter of seafarer Wu Saizi and tailor Pailai Saizi. She is the eldest of her three siblings, one of whom, Zhu Saizi would go on to become a prominent politician within their home province, serving as the provincial governor between 2018-2020. At the age of 10, Saizi moved to Raijugang and lived on the streets, working as a construction worker in many of the city's construction projects. She earned less than 5 dollars a day, and often had to choose between sustaining herself or sending money back home. Because of this, she often lived on less than 2.50 a day, and on some days, had to forego eating entirely. Saizi completed her elementary education at Hei Jia School in Raijugang, but had to drop out due to poverty.

During her years as a construction worker, she amazed her coworkers by her inate strength and ability to lift heavy objects often double or three times her weight. Her boss at the time, Lobsang Norbu was impressed with her abilities, and offered her an opportunity to pursue martial arts under the guidance of his friend Tsamchoe Thaye, even offering to financially support her family in the process. Saizi accepted his offer, relieved at the prospect of no longer having to work, and eager to explore new horizons.Shortly after turning 14, Sasha enrolled into martial arts training under Tsamchoe Thaye, who in his own right won the 2002 Yangchenia National Kung Fu tournament and held a black belt in both Kung Fu and Taekwondo. Under his guidance, Sasha honed her talent in martial arts, focusing initially on Kung Fu and Taekwondo, however later choosing to master Dailu.

At sixteen years old, Sasha Saizi competed in the 2018 National Dailu Tournament, her first major competition outside that of local units. To everyone's shock, the young and novice Sasha Saizi came out on top and was crowned champion, successfully defeating her much older and experienced opponent Sarkha Gui. Following her victory in the 2018 tournament, Sasha would go on to win several more competitions both regional and national, racking up an impressive list of achievements, becoming the 2020 champion in Kung Fu and the 2024 champion in Dailu, Kung Fu and Taekwondo.

As of 2025, Sasha Saizi made history as the first martial artist to hold the title as champion in all 5 areas of Yangchenian martial arts in a single year (Kung Fu, Dailu, Jiandun, Taekwondo and Professional Boxing), a feat she nearly achieved last year as well. She is widely regarded as the greatest female fighter of all time in the history of Yangchenian martial arts, and even labelled as the number one fighter in the country. She was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in April 2025.

She was approached by Blazing Dragon coach Hu Winwei in 2022, with an invitation to play in the tryouts for the Blazing Dragons. Saizi accepted, an during the tryouts she was a powerful player, known for kicking the ball extremely hard, enough to topple the goalkeeper. This, along with her speed and endurance led her to become an official member of the Blazing Dragons in 2023, with her participation in the 87th Baptism of Fire marking her first multiversal competition.

"Guys, look over here! They have a map of Choppyhausen at this kiosk!"

"Wow, that's so cool! Look at this, all these cities that we've visited. There's Choppingen. And there's Vastonburg where we beat Valentine Z a few days ago. You can see so many places here..."

"But do you know what there's no place for?"

"What?"

"Fascism."

World Cup 100 Qualifying - Excerpts from the Liveticker
Matchday 4
4' Not even five minutes in and Surne's keeper already has to show what he is capable of. After a nice combination between Lukeson and Iduna, Tyr finishes from about twenty meters. The goalkeeper has to stretch all the way to deflect the ball.
24' That should have been the 1-0! Finch misjudges a pass from Lampe and suddenly Surne is infront of goal. But their striker plays the ball a little too far ahead and Weiner-Kracht can grab it before the situation gets more dangerous.
30' Finch strolls through the Surne half practically unopposed before crossing to Lukeson who finishes directly. His powerful shot hits the bar.
46' Despite this game remaing goalless for the first half of the match, it was quite a watch with a ton of chances on both sides. Both teams need just a little bit more precision in the last third to bring the three points home today.
55' Holdenbeck wins the ball in his own box with a risky tackle. His opponent falls, but the referees lets play continue. The fans from Surne react with boos from the stands.
73' The substitutes have brought new energy into the game. Alvarado is combining all kinds of trickery to get past his opponents on the right side before crossing the ball into the box where Lauritz barely misses it.
89' Goal for Choppyhausen (0 - 1)
Milo Holdenbeck (De Lang)
And there it is - the goal in the last minute! During a corner piece, Choppyhausen has nine players in Surne's penalty area. De Lang's cross swings sharply toward the goal, where Holdenbeck is able to get it in with his chest at the far post.

So what were previously three separate divisions - the lowest of which was effectively semi-pro with the occasional amateur club thrown in - is now one Top League. And that means a decent redistribution of wealth, which some clubs will immediately throw at stadium renovations. It's no secret that the big clubs have pretty big home bases, at least for Ko-orenite standards (or massive stadiums, to South Newlandian standards), but other clubs that have drawn sellout crowds for years are still stuck in comparably tiny headquarters. They never wanted to take the risk for a stadium enlargement because sudden relegation - and with four teams relegating from the old Second Division, you were never, ever safe - would mean a complete disinvestment and likely financial trouble for the club, preventing a new promotion.

ImageGehrenna FC are the first of the bunch, having a stable presence in the top 10 for a few years, and though they were a small club before they've really left those humble beginnings behind. They have a fairly large wage bill, a front office that seems to know what it's doing, and though the club is left to the whims of 'just Top League things' (meaning you'll finish anywhere between 3rd and 10th), that's no longer an issue with clubs 1st through 30th being safe now. Their Kautherlugin Field seats 19200, which is far from small, but it's on the list of receiving a small upgrade. In their wake, established ImageStraudum VV has been tied down to a 25400 Hazel Arena for years. A quaint little field in the northeast, they're the pride of the region and they've been able to rival clubs three times their size for decades. It's not a fluke, and club leadership seems to have finally figured that out. The club can become the go-to for football in the entire northern region (sorry, ImageSchemerdrecht SVV and ImageSterrenwolde FC) and a stadium that would at least be top 5 in the region can go a long way. And they're nearly certain to sell it out anyway.

Central Ko-oren, that is, the massive chunk of mainland that's not clearly a peninsula, has been a graveyard of ambitious clubs for a while. And yet, the biggest cities are there, most money is there, and - don't tell this to anyone else - rumour has it that the push for a larger Top League has come mostly from the 10-ish clubs from that region that are set to benefit most from league enlargement. Investors have been very cautious to put any money towards club infrastructure, more cautious here than anywhere else, but the potential is massive. Instant heated rivalries between geographically close teams unlike we've seen since ImageBranvon CD got relegated twice while ImageMiradela GD kept on floundering in the top tier.

The city of Ilohbonu has two teams in the Top League now: ImageCresthill United FC as the proud big boy destined to be a top club, and ImageWeatherspark Wyvern FC, a club that was always in the depths of amateur ball that just kept on promoting until, well, they found themselves in division three and then automatically got embedded in the Top League. Effectively a suburb of Ilohbonu is a nearby town with a club that puts both Cresthill and Weatherspark to shame: ImageHuthwich Et Iduloren FC. Named for the town of Gohauthegihe (Huthwich) and the entire region of Iduloren - which is basically the entire plain between the capitals and Ilohbonu, never accuse the club of a lack of ambition: Iduloren is larger than half the territories in the Constellation - but Huthwich has long been the only successful club from the region. Cresthill is set to overtake them in revenue within a year - if only they'd say goodbye to their 9000 (!!!!) seater Buxwich Stadium. The local rugby union and gridiron clubs have their city's largest venue to themselves, but Cresthill was wrangled out of a deal with the venue, but it'd make a lot of sense for them to finally make the jump there. Weatherspark can take over Buxwich, which is already sort of in their direction within the city, and then Huthwich, finally assured of more than one consecutive year of the Top League, can improve the 'Ovation Station', which is unironically and legitimately their stadium name (and easily the winners of the annual 'most cringe stadium name' competition) from 13500 to something that reflects their pull.

In a similar position is the city of Garihnkatar, Ko-oren's largest and yet without football presence for decades. The city's fully on board with ImageSydberg Olympia, a club from an uppity northern suburb that's always done its best to renounce any and all claims to the rest of the southern working class city. And as for a second club from here... there is none. The new tier two has... none. The new tier three has... two: North Mesopotamia Mino FC and the Elmwood Greens - ask any serious football fan in Ko-oren and they might give you a faint 'ah, yeah, North Meposomatia, right, I heard of them'. Other regional rivals could be, well, let's be real, there aren't any. ImageLeeshire United will go for their rivalry with ImageMaynard AFC, and you could name ImageLimecroft Et Abyss FC from the most regional and backwards part of the south coast - but Limecroft's biggest rivalry is with themselves more often than not, and they'd name both Bruncester and Cirelbourne as their biggest rivals before they'd ever name Sydberg.

So... a single club in the largest city and sports market of the country? Slam dunk, right? And yet, ImageSydberg Olympia is relegated to the city's secondary stadium, the Golhampton Grounds, which still hold 31000 but it's a far cry from the Surbourneshire Square (65000) they're probably entitled to. There'll be news from there as well.

For more stadium news, we turn to two other regions that have received a strangely high number of teams. One is the clubs around the capitals rather than in them: that's ImageTokponen Ilijoren, ImageSauzjaregaun Saulrag, and ImageTuzmanjuth Jithaugom. Because of Maethoru's success, they're often not even the most popular team in town, but they've seen what Gehrenna has done, and they're ready to do something like that. Whether that's in any way realistic (it's not), remains to be seen. Tokponen has the biggest chance of becoming Top League mainstays as they're already building on a decent team. What unites the three teams is fairly small grounds, and while they could add a couple hundred seats - even if just for high paying business and sponsor duties - it might not be prudent to do much more than that. The second region is the lower end of Ehnigo, on the Amahjarau Bay, where we always already had ImageTanques AOE as easily one of the eight most successful Ko-orenite clubs of the last two decades, but where ImageAmandine AdF has tried to gain a way in, and as it happens, they now have an in-city rivalry with ImageGranon Altair CF who happened to be at the right time, at the right place, to earn their place in the 36-team Top League. The two teams from Gehenohn share a stadium that they're both anxious to sell out, though Amandine has always had the slightly higher attendance figures, they now both have an incentive to think about adding more seats. They're unlikely to rival Tanques' Stade Amandine (confusing name, we know) as the regional venue of choice if the national team Dragonflies ever come to town, but it's nice for the added revenue every other week anyway. Not far from there are the ImageVinroux Invincibles, a very strange addition, with little in the way of rivalries otherwise: Aminey is too far away (and about four times as good), they could think about tapping into the Ilohbonu clubs, but their actual regional rivals simply haven't managed to do much of note in the last 15 years (Norille Orion is in tier 3, Anarcourt Amazonia are in... tier 4, skull emoji).

Other stadiums with a chance of gaining seats are ImageFukushira Guerilla's 6800-seater on the eastern islands: they've been in the Top League before and there's little to suggest they can't continue their good ways; ImageOdahayashi Revolution who are looking to join ImageKatashi Azula in their 13000-seating Laomei Stadium (both are not allowed on the hallowed grass of Suzumebachi Stadium, in the same city, reserved for ImageKatashi-Kanatsu). Yes - the city of Katahshi will have three teams in the top tier, and frankly, we're lucky it's not more (Maesaki Palace and Nanavama Pilgrims are in tier two. Statisticians assume within three decades, half the Top League are teams from Katashi). There's a chance of ImageColoruna de Paraiso adding something to their 7000-odd seats, with rivals ImageCastelo e Calvente CS nearby, and the most heated geographic rivalry of the country: Thelesra's ImageMiradela GD versus ImageBranvon CD. There's now four clubs from the peninsula and they're already loving it.

Adeyemi Strikes At The Double For Lions
Dantopia Defeat Whispinia To Win Second Game Out Of Three

PORTLAND, DANTOPIA — The Dantopian National Team returned to winning ways again following a victory against visitors Whispinia at the DT Centre in Portland. For the Lions, it was their second win of the qualifying campaign, in what is shaping up to be a challenging Group 9. Group favourites Chromatika have already dropped points, and unlikely victories for the likes of Whispinia — in their previous game, and United States Of Alpha — against Dantopia, has already shaken up the standings and means that no match-up in this collection of nine teams is a sure bet in favour of one side or the other.

Image
Bradini Brunson
Rick Bishop's men took the lead in the 24th minute through a fantastic, outside-of-the-box curler into the bottom corner from Bradini Brunson — who has now bagged his second goal for the Lions, and is looking exactly the calibre of striker the team is needing in this cycle. Exactly ten minutes later, Johnny Kealoha made it two for the Dantopians, following a foul on the outside of the box. Kealoha's free kick was expertly placed over the wall and into the top left corner of the goal, leaving the opposition goalkeeper helpless.

Image
Johnny Kealoha
The Lions then maintained the bulk of the possession — and the chances — against the Whispinians, up until half time, and their two-nil lead heading into the break looked secured and deserved. In the 61st minute, Adebayo Adeyemi was gifted a shot on goal following a turnover caused by the Dantopian high press. The Grenadiers winger, was able to strike the ball cleanly through the legs of his marker and into the bottom right corner of the goal. Three-Nil to Dantopia now, and looking comfortable.

Following that third goal, the Lions waned a little, not quite producing the quality they had in the first half or early second half. Bishop made some alterations and brought on Kahananui, Watanabe and Danchevy for Krol, Nehemiah Cunningham and Johnson respectively. Later on he would also substitute Ezra Cunningham for Fodderingham and Brunson for Zeke Edwards.

Dantopia's nerves were wobbled slightly in the 74th minute, when an arguably wrongful decision made by the referee resulted in a free kick for Whispinia. Will Cross had been the last man back for the Lions when the opposition broke, and what normally would have been called as a 'coming together' was instead ruled a foul, and Cross was booked to boot. In an impressive show of set-piece co-ordination, the Whispinians used a clever routine to get the ball to their open man at the back post. The defensive breakdown was chided by Bishop and Bullvale, equally angry — both goalkeepers, or former goalkeepers, after all — that the goal was so exposed.

Then, into added time, the visitors scored again, this time off a corner, with one of the tall Whispinian centre halves steering the ball home with their head. The Lions had once again been exposed by set-pieces — something Rick Bishop and his staff will have to analyse introspectively before the next set of fixtures, in order to try and mitigate the apparent weakness. What had initially looked like a easy game after the Lions had gone up by three, was not quite turning out that way — now only with a one goal lead, and more added time to play.

Image
Adebayo Adeyemi
However, just before the game was finally put to bed, Adebayo Adeyemi took control of the ball — and the game — dribbling through practically the entire Whispinian defensive line, before dinking the ball past the goalkeeper as well. A second goal for Adeyemi in this match, seeing a resurgence in form for the agile wide man — who's attempt at making it beyond Dantopian domestic football sadly fell flat at Pesfield Trees in Sylestone, a few seasons back — but his return to the Grenadiers saw him hailed as a prodigal son, and his showing for the national team tonight was certainly one of his vintage performances.

The Lions face Karmosora away in their next fixture — and it is widely speculated Rick Bishop will used the match against a fellow unranked side to experiment with his line-up and formations, if only to get a better understanding of his squad and their capabilities. The Karmosorians will be fresh off a defeat to Archalit, and the Dantopians will want to be putting them to the sword if they possibly can — though as mentioned earlier, nothing seems guaranteed in this qualifying group. Elsewhere, Chromatika avenged the Lions by beating United States Of Alpha 5-2, and Abanhfleft held Dēmos to a nil-nil draw.

Heavily Rotated Lions Side Lose to Karmosora
Bishop's Men Fall To Fellow Unranked Side And Acrue Second Defeat In Four Matches

ᘜANGHAI, KARMOSORA — Dantopia have sustained their second defeat of this cycle's World Cup Qualifiers, to another unranked nation amongst the pack in Group 9 — Karmosora. Not much at all was known about the Karmosorians heading into the fixture — No scouting report had been able to be produced, no official roster posted by the opposition, nor even directions to the stadium or what time the kick off would be. Fortunately the logistical issues were ironed out, but less fortunately the Lions were not able to secure any points from the away visit.

Image
Rick Bishop
The hosts were able to open the scoring after fourteen minutes through one of their midfielders, who's low-driven, long range strike from just outside the box awkwardly bobbled before reaching Dantopian goalkeeper Winston Akana — with the bobbled effort bouncing over the outstretched shot-stopper and into the net. This was not the ideal start for a heavily rotated Lions side, who were deployed in a less customary 3-4-2-1 shape, owing to manager Rick Bishop's experimentation and tinkering. When asked on this decision following the match, the gaffer responded "Some experimentation was always the plan coming into this fixture, the fourth after three games where I've already had a good look at the established eleven. I need to be able to rest players, and test others. It's important to be able to rely on an entire squad, and also to give some youngsters a chance when the time is right. It's just unfortunate that we couldn't get a result today, but all credit to the lads."

A second goal went in for Karmosora shortly before half time, following a cross into the box for one of their forwards, who was able to get their head to the effort before young Dantopian centre back Tyson Taylor. Taylor looked visibly demoralised following the goal, knowing in his heart of hearts that he was more than capable of clearing such chances in most occasions. At half time, down Two-Nil, Bishop needed to make changes to try and salvage something from the fixture. Substitutions were made; with the aforementioned Taylor being replaced by Dwight Krol; and Jeremiah Jackson Jr. coming on for Kai Watanabe. With these changes, the system transitioned to a 4-2-2-2 — with Kahananui and Nehemiah Cunningham making up the defensive midfielders, Ezra Cunningham and Fodderingham being the number 10s, and Jackson Jr. and Edwards the forwards. Width on either side was offered either by the full backs, or by one of Fodderingham or Jackson, who both like to operate from out wide at times. This approach saw the Lions take better control of proceedings, and no other goals were conceded in the second half.

Ezra Cunningham
With pressure being applied by Bishop's men, following his changes, the Lions roared on and were able to scrape one back ten minutes before full-time. Ezra Cunningham leaped like a salmon from a corner and rocketed one home off his head to make the score 2-1 in favour of the hosts. Bishop turned the screw and offered a few more changes; Elleby Young replaced a tiring Fodderingham; Cross was swapped in for Lacroix; and Brunson played the final few minutes in place of Zeke Edwards as the team rallied for a final goal. The intense pressing from the Dantopians saw a number half chances made — two for late substitute Brunson, and then JJJ scraped the outside of the post two minutes before the end, but sadly the Lions would fall short, as the hosts celebrated the victory — their first of their campaign. The loss splits Dantopia's record evenly at two wins and two losses — not a bad start by any means for an unranked nation going into this group setting, but it can't help be felt that more could have been achieved in this particular fixture.

Two wins and two losses means four points out of a possible twelve for Dantopia, though three of those opening fixtures were against Baptism of Fire 87 participants — all of whom were more experienced in recent international play. As it stands, the Lions sit in third place in the group, just shy of one of the two qualification spots. Unsurprisingly, Chromatika have started to pull away at the top of the table, after two convincing wins on the bounce. Between them and the Lions sits the Ko-orenite Constellation — a collection of independent or freely associated nations with Ko-oren. Each fixture in the group is played by a different nation within the constellation. Of those, Isidoren will be the ones paying a visit to Lion City to face Dantopia next in match-day five, at Gēcko Arena, the home of Lion City FC. Following that game, the Lions will next head to Archalit — to face the Baptism of Fire 80 runners-up and Cup of Harmony 86 third place finishers. Neither of these fixtures will be straightforward for Rick Bishop's side, and it is expected a return to a strongest possible eleven will be on the cards for both games. It is likely Dani Spaghetti will remain out of contention for the next two fixtures, but will be able to make his return for matchday eight against Chromatika at the National Team Stadium in Lion City — Dantopia have a bye in matchday seven.

NOT WHAT THE EAGLES WANTED

Friday, 10/8/2032
Written by Recha der-Trounsard

Edsmontik exits the Suberarenae dissapointed this afternoon as the Eagles had failed to deliver against a much weaker team known as New Eastern Roma. What should have been an easy three points for the Eagles to allow them to hold first place in the group turned downhill as one by one, the Edsmon lines fell apart through yellow cards and even an ejection of Benzor Norseden, who received two yellows in the match.

The match had started off as usual, with strong and confident Edsmon attacks against the NER. After their performance in the previous matches, they had "hoped to bring more to their fans with a larger win" according to Maartin Stuero after the match. Their squad had been slightly rotated for the purpose of giving some of the substitutes starting time, and those players were seemingly doing pretty well.

The game went on pretty normally, however without goals. Once every few minutes, there would be a chance for Edsmontik, but the ball would either be deflected or just soar beyond goal. It was frustrating for the fans to see that the Eagles could hardly make any shots at this point. For a team so developed, they expected to have done much better in the first forty-five.

The second half began with a few quick shots from the Edsmon side. Stuero, Utravak, and Svaardaen managed to get up close into the penalty box, but were either thwarted out by defenders or taken down by a badly placed shot. Maktholm Ghreksbvy even took a free kick in the 68th minute, but the ball was deflected off a NER defender, which then was deflected off the left leg of Ystermakt.

While the first half was pretty calm, the second half was pure chaos. After the Edsmons missed shots, some of them resorted to more aggressive tackles to win back possession.

First, it was Ghreksbvy with a rough tackle on a NER midfielder, earning him a yellow card. That was followed up by Ystermakt rushing in with a tackle on another NER midfielder to win an air battle, resulting in a yellow card for him. Following that was Shouzvenkreden giving up a penalty that ultimately led to the Edsmons falling behind. Benzor Norseden got aggressive with the referee for his decision, and ended up getting a yellow as well. Shortly after, he would get a second yellow and get ejected.

With the NER leading late in the second half, the Eagles were on the way to be upsetted. Luckily, Lajiflak Fruedenne scored a finesse shot to close the gap in the 80th minute.

It was way too close of a game. This could not be tolerated in the future, especially if Edsmontik wanted a spot in the World Cup. With the final whistle blown, the Edsmon Eagles now had to reflect on how they just drew a game at home in front of a crowd of 75,000.

MILITARY HISTORY SHOWCASE WEEK 2 - THE WEIRBEL

Edsmon Military Showcase

Week 1 - Week 2

The V1 'Weirbel I' is effectively the grandfather of all Edsmon tanks, not counting the A1 tanks. Many non-Edsmons wonder what its name means. the answer to that is that 'Weirbel' was what a Soldier in the Vdes State was originally called, and the V in V1X1 was named after the original Vdes State. This means that all tanks classified under the V category would be nicknamed something related to the original Vdes State. V would later be the category for all heavy tanks after the development of the V2X1, but the nicknaming system would remain.

Reddor designed the V1 to be agile and strong at the same time, fitting it with a 55mm cannon that could be moved. However, the turret itself could not turn, as it was welded directly onto the body. According to Reddor, the design choice was due to testing models of the Weirbel (that had a rotating turret) turrets repeatedly getting stuck during rotation or the entire tank being too heavy.

The frontal armor of the tank (including armor around the front of the turret), was 43mm thick at an angle of 45 degrees. The side armor was almost completely flat, and was only around 30mm thick. The side of the turret was a little thicker, at 35mm. In order to power the tank, the Edsmon motorbike and A1 tank-truck manufacturer Reddor made a new engine, a 30 liter V12 called the Series R.

The Weirbel first saw service in 1915, with Edsmontik deploying the V1X1 model around Karma to deal with conflicts. The tank performed well, however, there were reports of the gun itself not moving and tires that wore out quickly because of the weight of the tank.

Edsmontik would go forward and end up creating the V1X2 and V1X3 Weirbels before 1920, which had thicker armor plating. The V1X3 even had a larger gun, measuring at 65mm. The third model was specifically used in base destruction campaigns, where the 65mm High Explosive shell designed by the Edsmon Military came into good use. Occasionally, the V1X3 would see regular battlefield combat, but the V1X2's lighter gun was preferred.

The V1X4 would appear in combat by 1921. It was the successor and replacement for the V1X1, 2, and 3 models. This new variant had a turret mounted machine gun that could be operated by the commander, as well as reinforced tires and better weight balancing. The new Weirbel would keep the 65mm cannon, and also use it in battle with APHE shells developed by the military.

Eventually, it would go out of service by the 1940s when the Weirbel II was designed to be the Weirbel I's true successor. Either way, the Weirbel I would have made a huge impact on the Edsmon military, no matter how long it stayed in service.

EVEN WORSE WHILE AWAY

The Edsmons arrive home from Qasden dissapointed after a 0-0 draw, arguably their worst performance yet. The Edsmon Eagles have recently been on a mediocre performance streak, with small wins and now their second draw of the World Cup 100 Qualifiers. The team that hopes to win it all is not performing at their best. What's next for them?

The match began with Edsmontik doing nearly nothing. The Edsmons kept the ball in their half, but had seemingly refused to do anything other than that. Their opponents, Qasden, managed to take the ball back a few times, but the Eagles would reclaim and dominate possession. For the remaining forty-five minutes, it was mostly back and forth, with the Eagles advancing, falling back, advancing, falling back, and so on on repeat.

Once halftime arrived, the Edsmons fans were bored. The Qasden fans were more lively, as their team was stopping a top 10 giant from getting the ball in the back of their net. Clearly, the Eagles' fans were expecting much more from Edsmontik, at least one goal. But that wouldn't happen.

The second half was almost the same as the first. There were scattered chances here and there, with occasional near misses, but otherwise, it was all coming down to nothing. With around 15 minutes remaining, there were less shots taken on goal than minutes left. After a continuous fight, eventually, the game came to a close. Edsmontik drew yet again, and now, were second place in Group 15. 2nd was not bad at all, but for a top 10 team, they should have done much, much better.
