“They lost.”

Sven Almsund looked up from his phone. His face was too bewildered for someone who had just had a prime spot to see a quintessential Anewkansan football victory: one goal scored early in the game, then bring out the old cement mixer and build up the double wall.

“Well, of course they did. We scored, they didn’t and…”
“Not them. The Remnant States,” Almsund muttered, as unaware as the average Anewkansan about the right pronunciation of Squornshelous.

That did silence the dressing room. A few weeks earlier, Dom Merrick had taken his unspoken role as veteran to the next level by inviting all players to a watch party for the group draw. The night had ended in a bit more debauchery than the aging central defender had intended but to the manager, he had been able to put it down as team building (which sounded better than the actual furniture deconstruction). Trevor Augustus had bought it, his wife didn’t. But before all the attempts at body slams on the living room table, they had sat through the seemingly endless parade of picking balls out of a cylinder, having a who is who of international football and finding the domestic commentators mangle the names of the various countries. Having the number one of the KPB+ rankings drawn incited a chain reaction. First, there were some boasting ‘oh snaps' and primal cheers. Then bit by bit the realisation sank in that the faith was sealed for group twelve. The Remnant States would gallantly airwalk their way to an undisputed group victory, while our Turtles could hope for nothing more than being involved in the dog fight for the play-off spot. Facing Dhemixia, Alanis Star and United Adaikes as main opponents would be far from a walk in the park, but at least there was a semblance of a chance to add more games to the already long qualification process.

With that mindset, the Turtles had made their way to the Miniona Islands, one of the string of clearly base-10 numbered societies who signed up for this edition. Their passage in the Baptism of Fire lived up to their nation name but that did not mean that Trevor Augustus felt like taking any risks. He knew that his critics were already sharpening their knives and making maps of his back to plunge them into. If they would need to, Augustus preferred that they did it over his style rather than over his results and immediately sacrificed Sevilla for the far less creative (but stronger on his feet) Blake Herrington. Luckily for the national manager, it was Herrington who recovered the ball in midfield after seventeen minutes, launched it onto Pershing Major who found Lemar Philips with his head. The Minionan goalkeeper never stood a chance. That moment of synergy between the two strikers could have been the talking point of the night: whether the two antipodes could perform together had been the talk of the town for weeks now. That was, until Augustus decided to defend the 0-1 for dear life: Philips remained indoors at half-time, Shaffer was pushed on with mortar and bricks on his shoulders.

Did it work? Of course it did. And it did not, at the same time. The slim Anewkansan lead never really got in trouble. The Islanders managed to craft just one real chance, but Pesonen kept it out with a well timed jump to the left bottom corner. Otherwise, the opponents simply found themselves passing the ball left to right thirty meters from the goal line. Two years ago, when making their inaugural appearance, no one would have batted an eye over these sorts of tactics. To the contrary: contemporary manager Archibald Price got chastised for his lack of original Anewkansan values, which apparently included kicking the shins in of the opponents and stacking defenders on top of one another inside the penalty box. But while the international community might not always value the Cup of Harmony triumph, the trophy had given commentators and pundits the confidence to claim that Anewkansas should ‘do more’ against freshfaced opponents (making the ludicrous assumption that the Turtles were no longer freshfaced). And so, the 0-1 away win which was, objectively, a good start to the long campaign got some negative feedback in the press. The team itself did not care for that as much and was mainly focussed on the shocker of the evening, not just in Group 12 but across the world.

“A team of their stature has a margin of error,” McIntyre stated to end the anxious silence.
“They have,” Merrick admitted, “for one error.”

It encapsulated the collective thoughts. One error. Yes, the press probably is coming down on Dudu Madeiros, some of the more high-profile Black-and-Reds will have some explaining to do in the interviews but if you get the train rolling afterwards, it will be considered just as a little bend in the road, nothing more. A cautionary tale, at times, but mainly a fun fact for pub quizzing. What unranked team stunned the KPB+ number one…? What was it again, something something Liberals?

To be clear, a few days later, every single one of the Turtles knew the name of the Baman and Juket Liberationists quite well. In their own Fallstaff Stadium, Trevor Augustus seemed on his way for two out of two. The recipe was quite clear: minute 16, long cross to Pershing Major who distracts the whole defensive line with his presence, a header that ends up loose in the box and Lemar Philips who pounces upon it. After that, you seal off the pitch with all you’ve got and you wait for the final whistle. Clinical. Easy. Until it isn’t. In minute 74, the Liberationists released themselves with three, four perfect one-touch passes through the heart of our defensive line. Gaziewski, splendid so far, mistakenly sets up the offside trap and one opponent can get through on goal to score the equalizer. The audience suddenly stumbles back to life. It could have gone both ways. They might have turned against the team, criticising Augustus’ decision to lean back. But they were so shocked by the hold-up from the Liberationists that they got behind the team. The winner was not pretty but did mark the first international goal for Doherty, who dribbled past his man before kicking the ball through a forest of legs. The double ricochet froze up the goalkeeper and saved the Turtles, our cautionary tale at least had a happy ending.

“It’s just a game like the other fifteen, for three points,” Trevor Augustus declared of the next encounter.

It’s a lie and he knows it as well as the next one. If logic prevails, the Turtles try to hold back the Black-and-Red in the Pheldagriff Stadium, manage to only do so for less than ninety minutes and travel back home without points after having shared platitudes with the press.

“It’s not in this game we need to earn the play-off spot.”
“We fought well enough and it is a performance and team spirit we can take along to the upcoming fixtures.”
“It was a good test for the younger players.”

The press already has it scripted in draft. Just push the ‘publish’ button. Unless…

“A team of their stature has a margin of error,” McIntyre stated to end the anxious silence.
“They have,” Merrick admitted, “for one error.”

A few players nodded along but for those in the back, Merrick felt obliged to elaborate.

“Everyone can make one error in a long campaign. But make two of them, in a row, and you start to stutter. To second guess. To rotate where things need stability, to cling on to things that require flexibility. There is only one chance, one in a million, to push the SRS into the pit of doubt in this campaign. It’s a ball from far out, there’s a ton of defenders still in the way and the goalkeeper has his eye on us. But it’s a chance, nonetheless, to kick this group wide open. And it’s given to us.”

Stöckl Motor Werke

Chapter 1: Big dreams, humble beginnings - The Stöckl Nabucco

Image

The Stöckl story so far...
Introduction & Context

Wolfgang Sr. was born in Goldstadt in 1936, the son of a successful civil engineer. As a child, his mother introduced him to a love of music, and one of his fondest childhood memories was when his father bought a gramophone for Christmas. With it, he soon developed a love for classical music, especially Italian operas. Verdi, Puccini, and Rossini were his childhood heroes.

In his teens, another love blossomed in his young heart. A trip with his uncles and cousins aboard a small Klimeš 6 awakened his other great love: speed. It was his maternal uncle who taught him to drive, and from then on he decided to build cars. Fast cars.

Image
The humble Klimeš 6 that sparked the love of cars to Wolfgang Stöckl Sr.(1)

He graduated in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Goldstadt and, after his first work experience at Klimeš Motors, he opened his own mechanical workshop, Stöckl Motor Werke, in 1966. Forty years ago in Calgasia, where the auto market was bland and utilitarian, building a performance car was an act of madness. His first creation? A small, attractive car, the Nabucco, named after Verdi's opera, with a 85 hp engine and a top speed of around 135 km/h. However, his sales expectations were not what he had hoped for, and although it was somewhat popular among the rich and noble, the company soon found itself in a difficult financial situation.

But pure passion does not power a factory. To make the company survive, he turned back to his former employee, the auto giant Klimeš Motors, asking them to create an association. Stöckl father had left an excellent mark on the people inside Klimeš while working there, and being the behemoth they were, an extra auto part company would come in handy to cope with the growing demand, so they offered him a deal: to build engines for Klimeš.

Image

That was a humbling moment. I was young and arrogant, and dreamt of building fast cars. In normal conditions, I would’ve rejected that. But numbers were starting to be red, and building engines for the modest and simple Klimeš that everyone used was the best education I could have had as an engineer.

At university, I learned how to build a combustion engine, and that was it. But the experience with Klimeš taught me how to design it from scratch, get the most out of it, when to use an inline four, when a V6 or 8, how to fit it into a small space, make it reliable and durable, be careful about its consumption and economy… It taught me how to REALLY build a car, in definitive.

Wolfgang Stöckl Sr.

Developing and manufacturing the powerplants for Klimeš' affordable, practical line was a masterclass for the company, learning efficiency, mechanical prowess and business management. This partnership didn't just keep Stöckl afloat; it gave Wolfgang Sr. a deep, working relationship with the behemoth, granting him access to Klimeš' limitless resources— R&D, technical and financial backup, and the kind of industrial scale his small dream could never afford on its own.

During the company's early decades, Stöckl had a clear business model: build engines for Klimeš, and with the money earned, develop and build the cars that Wolfgang Sr. dreamed of. This company model remains in place today, but Klimeš' influence has diminished considerably over the last 10 years, especially since Wolfgang Jr. took over the company six years ago. Given this commercial relationship, critics suggest that Stöckl is nothing more than the sports division of Klimeš Motors.

The Nabucco was Stöckl’s very first production model. Built between 1966 and 1982, it featured a lightweight aluminium–iron–aluminium construction and a DOHC valvetrain, paired with a single carburettor and a supercharger. Its 2-seat coupé body combined elegant proportions with a distinctly sporty stance. The modest 85 bhp (63 kW) output delivered through its refined inline-four engine allowed a top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph), which was quite fast for the time. Transmission was done with a manual, 4-speed gearbox.

The compression ratio of 5.0:1 made the engine remarkably smooth and reliable. After the partnership with Klimeš, sales improved, as the automotive giant allowed these luxury cars to be sold through its extensive commercial network, enabling Stöckl to reach clients beyond the bourgeoisie of Goldstadt to other markets such as Melperk and Ocheron, where they always enjoyed considerable prestige among the upper classes.

Next chapter: Getting better - the Stöckl Otello

Context:
- Calgasia is a constitutional monarchy founded by Austro-Hungarian settlers in 1917 after the accidental discovery of an interdimensional portal between the Earth and a very similar planet, evolving from an isolated imperial colony into a modern, democratic, and industrial nation.
- The technological level is comparable to real Earth 1960s. There can be some advanced features to fit with the rest of the NSS nations, but generally consider this level.

- The current year in Calgasia is 2004. Connexions and trade with the rest of the multiverse started only in the year 2000 after more than 80 years isolated. That explains the current backwards tech level.

- Due to the reopening of the nation to the multiverse, Calgasia is experiencing a social and cultural revolution, comparable to the Swinging Sixties in the Western world back on Earth, especially the UK. Arts, music, fashion, multimedia, popular consciousness, feminism, … almost all aspects of the traditional Calgasian society are being challenged and modified by the youth. Mass consumption and the economic boom that the country is having because of the renewed trade are fuelling this movement. This revolution is being felt across the country, but especially in the capital, with the movement Groovy Goldstadt. Cold, inhospitable marshlands once were able to hold life. Technology was the answer to surviving in such places humans weren't meant to be.

A thriving nation built itself as a beacon for their place in the world. Growing, expanding, developing all the same.

Inner conflict exists, it was never perfect. But those who lived there were proud and happy to call that specific place as their home.

It was all so peaceful, so harmonious. Despite setbacks, they pushed forward. And then the disaster finally arrived.

No one knew what had occurred on that fateful day. All that is known is that this disaster engulfed the entire nation.

Evacuation was imminent, rally points were made. Precautions taken yet not everyone lived to survive the horror of it all.

They say a few individuals rose up to the occasion to save others on that day. They say these individuals led the evacuation of what was once their home.

And so they left, sailing into the freezing cold seas. Where they head to, no one knows.

But the state of what was their home is no longer livable. So to live on, to carry on, they head on out into the freezing seas.

To whatever fates await them.

On Atheara's first match since... Goodness who knows when? The Blue Guard took a dominant win.

The 4 - 0 victory over Felinetopia signaled to those who were watching what this new Athearan National Team was all about. They'd be playing every single match with a newly lit fire never seen amongst the old generation, that much people could tell. Mugel Krygorf had assembled a team completely different to back then, the former goalkeeper showcasing a different tactical thesis compared to his predecessor. Every player seemed to be in good spirits, including many of the first time call-ups who were on the team now.

Sure, they lost against Natkr. But the loss was from a close game, they weren't dominated nor were they out of the game entirely throughout the match. This was the type of performances that The Blue Guard were showing despite around seven cycles of inactivity... You could say it's impressive. But the Athearans knew to not get too confident, it can quickly transform into arrogance. Something that this team has sometimes experienced in the past, when they were on a good run of form. Perhaps that's why they never succeeded.

"With our current condition and situation overall, I don't think we'll be doing loud or crazy celebrations. For many of us, it's about taking in the moment of each match that we play, representing Atheara." Says Jakob Pestren-Mitaloza, one of the new callups to the national team who had shown a good performance overall in the two matches.

Team manager Mugel Krygorf agreed with the sentiment at the post match interview, saying, "For many of them, it's the first time of being able to go out of Atheara in a long time. The way that the new republic is operating... It's different to say the least. The players are all just doing their best in their own ways, including myself as I lead a team as a manager for the first time. We're still looking at things, primarily what our new identity as the "Second Generation Blue Guard" is supposed to mean. Things have changed, so many things in fact. But I'm certain there are some things that I believe will stay the same as last time." The older Krygorf shared as this was a particular moment for him.

Atheara's next two matches are against Europeasia and Konkert respectively, both recent newcomers onto the footballing stage... Mugel thinks. "The aim is to do as best as possible. We want every point we can possibly get." Zarbir Iltchoporsk, one of Atheara's four forwards spoke. He quickly showcased himself as one of the key points of Atheara's new offense, bagging two goals in the match against Felinetopia and an assist against Natkr. Everyone seems to have hope that this new Atheara can perform well in upcoming matches.

And with that, the support of this team starts to rise.

SERNET HOPES FOR GOALS

Pre-match analysis for MATCHDAY 3 VS YANGCHENIA @ SEVEN BRIDGES
and MATCHDAY 4 VS YUEZHOU @ YUEZHOU

by Damian Weslom

starting 11 against Yangchenia:

Image

starting 11 against Yuezhou:
Same as starting 11 vs Yangchenia, except for the following changes:
-Bob Yarisem starts, replacing S. Jatrowski
-forward L. Sakayo replaces R. Alforez in midfield
-S. Zerning replaces Tworpowski
-Twisk starts in goal, Pasarowski gets to rest

Analysis:
For Sernet, the next two matches present two back-to-back opportunities: one to assert dominance at home, the other to demonstrate grit away from home. If the boys execute the game-plan well, manage the transitions and pressures, and if all the players step up—this could be a very productive period. We could bag a juicy 6 points, allowing us to forget the disappointing loss against Juvencus last matchday.

Firstly, we face the Yangchenia blazing dragons at Seven Bridges, Setelendisen. They are a theocratic monarchy and also a necrocracy, whatever that may be. Like us, they seem to have a keen interest in space, and their country is spread across multiple planets. However they have a smaller population than Sernet, numbering at around 34 million. They also have an interesting range of sports, with various martial arts being very popular, alongside football. Many of their players were formerly part of the Yangchenian military. They also seem to have angered Juvencus, who they have also lost to recently, by taunting them with incorrect demonyms. They drew against Macbon in their other match, meaning they have a point on the table.
The Blazing dragons have already touched down in Sernetesen Storimidros International, as well as a swarm of their fans. With all due respect, hopefully they return home without any more points than they had previously. Good luck Sernet.

Secondly, we face Yuezhou. We know it's an away match, but the venue is to be confirmed. Apparently their name is actually spelt Yue Zhou, but now we've gotten used to the previous spelling. Apparently they were once a force to be reckoned with, but they appear to have dipped. Sernetian fans are already flying into Nangang, the capital, ready to watch this potentially groundbreaking match. But there may be issues, as we haven't got much information about the country...

As usual, all of us from Sernefoot and Sernesports TV wish our boys luck.

next at Sernesports TV, I interview sernetian fans at Seven Bridges.

Damian: Hello and welcome Sernet! Damian Weslom here, reporting live outside Seven Bridges stadium, and the atmosphere is absolutely electric ahead of tonight’s clash against Yangchenia. Let’s hear what the fans have to say before the match!

approaches and older man wearing a Sernet shirt and a sernet beanie, accompanied by a boy, probably his grandson, wearing a sernetian away shirt and a sernetian flag painted on his face.

Hello sir, are you excited for tonight's match?

Old man: Aye, I'm buzzing with joy - can't wait to ses the show the boys will put on! The lads have been training hard, and at home, we’ve got the edge. I’m expecting a solid performance — maybe two-nil to Sernet if the boys keep their heads. Yangchenia are going to have a tough time against them. And you know the saying 'Home crowd's the twelfth player' before? That definitely applies. Them dragons got a tough nut to crack.

Grandson: Come on Sernet! I think we'll beat them. Im so sure of it I've even painted my face.

Damian continues interviewing

Young man witb sernet scarf: Tonight's gonna be a loud tonight! We been waiting all week for this. You just know when Sernet plays here, something happens. I’m betting Bolsting will score - he’s due one! We can snatch a win tonight, my gut is telling me we can. Imma sing the whole 90 minutes and treat meself to a burger if we win.

Teenager wearing sernet goalkeeper kit: Bro i always watch sernet play. No matter the weather, sun, rain or snow, no matter whether I'm watching at the stadium or at home on TV, I always watch our boys play. I love my country and Id love sernet to win. They're going to break Yangchenian ankles tonight, mark my words.

Middle-aged man wearing vintage sernet kit: Listen, this place is gonna be bouncing. The players will feel it the second they walk out. If we score early, it’s over for them. I’ve got a feeling we’ll win by a couple — two-nil or three-one. I’ve seen a lot of Sernet sides since I was a boy, and this one’s got grit. You can tell the manager’s instilled belief. It’s not just about flair — it’s about discipline. Keep it tight, take our chances, and we’ll get the job done. COME ON SERNET!

Young boy with Mum and Dad: Young boy: Three goals! Three goals! Sernet three goals!
Dad: He's predicting a hat trick; we hope he's right!
Mum: Of course he is! Time to show them what we've got! We're going to win our next TWO matches at the least!

Damian: There we are. Clearly everyone is excited. Seven Bridges is quickly filling up with fans from both countries. The trains are packed, the streets are flooded by supporters, and those who aren't watching from the stadium will have their eyes glued to the telly. We're ready. COME ON SERNET!

SUPPORTER'S JOURNEY TO SEVEN BRIDGES.

Hi there. My name's Dan. I live in Lofnolmesen and I'm a die hard fan of Sernet. Whenever I can get my hands on a ticket, I WILL go and see Sernet play.
The alarm goes at half past seven, but honestly, I’ve been awake for twenty minutes already. Matchday. That word just hits different. Doesn’t matter how many years go by - when it’s a home game, the stomach still does a little flip when I see the scarf hanging on the back of the door.

Coffee, quick breakfast, and I’m out. The air feels sharper, fresher - or maybe that’s just the adrenaline. Down the hill to the tram stop, where one seems to be waiting just for me. A few minutes later I hop off at Lofnolmesen Central. Even from a distance you can spot the others: blue and orange shirts, bobble and beanie hats, a few carrying flags rolled under their arms. Strangers, technically, but we all nod at each other. We know why we’re here.

The 09:14 Sernetesen & Western to Sernetesen Arsenal is our unofficial supporters’ service. Same carriages, same faces most matchdays. At least when there's a home match. There’s the older guy with the thermos who still talks about that legendary 7-1 win over Armatonisdaristan like it was yesterday, the two uni lads who never stop singing, and the mum with her young daughter who knows every word of the chant.

When the doors close, someone starts the chant - half joking at first, then the whole carriage joins in. The rhythm of the wheels on the tracks keeps time like a drumbeat. For a few minutes, it feels like the train itself is singing for Sernet. The train ploughs forwards towards Sernetesen. At every stop, every town and outer suburb we pass, more supporters pile on, until the train is packed like a can of sardines. I'm lucky to have a seat. We leave Sultriost, pass Soshedrisen and soon we enter Sernetesen governorate.

I stare out the window as the Sernetesen suburbs slide by - Netrosen, Stendrisalles, Saprosnosem, Dasmodnosen, Plassingen and so on, all flashing past like old memories. This is the quiet bit before the chaos. You run through the possibilities in your head: if we win tonight, that’s momentum; if we lose - no point thinking about it. But mostly, you just hope.

We get closer and closer to Sernetesen. We pull into our final calling point before the city, Slalosen Central. Soon, the skyline appears, and I press my face to the window to admire the view.

Stepping off the train at Sernetesen Arsenal, you feel it immediately: the noise, the colour, the smell of street food and smoke from the flares. Drums echo off the walls, vendors shout for attention, and everyone’s walking in the same direction. You can’t not smile. People from all over the country come to this station to visit Sernetesen for whatever reason. Time for the final leg of the journey. SMR to Seven Bridges. Tightly packed as it gets, even by Sernetesen standards. After a while, we arrive at Seven Bridges. As soon as I alight, I am met with a current of supporters - from both countries - except the sernetians were much louder.

There’s this moment, right outside the station, where you join the flow of supporters heading up the boulevard towards the stadium. It’s like a tide. The songs get louder, the pace quickens. Someone hands me a sticker, someone else passes me some sweets. Strangers for ninety minutes, family for life. Then the stadium enters view, the floodlights on even though the sun is still up. That sight never gets old.

When I reach the ground, I always stop for a second before going in. I look up at those stands, the banners waving, the hum of the crowd starting to build. And I think: this is home. No matter what club you support, we are all united today.

Inside, it’ll be noise and nerves and everything in between. But right now, on the walk from the station, surrounded by thousands who love this country as much as I do, everything feels right.

So yeah — that’s my matchday. Just me, a train ticket, a scarf, and a belief that tonight might be the night.

Because when you’re Sernetian, the journey Seven Bridges (or wherever else) is never just travel. It’s almost a pilgrimage. It's for your country.

Sernet is a large nation famous for its extensive rail network and the nation's skyscrapers and tower blocks. Capital city: Sernetesen. Sernet is a space-capable state and maintains a network of colonies, however it is not your traditional earth-based empire (we are very benevolent). The nation is rich in history and culture (wip) and is extremely patriotic.

The cloak of invincibility Shin-Zetsubo once had was gone as soon as the full time whistle blew in Towa City.

It was bound to happen eventually. If not against the Cool Kids, then probably against Gyaromia at FK Partisan Lászvár Stadium at the earliest. It didn't help that it was the inaugural game for Shin-Zetsubo's small yet rowdy national stadium, complete with a little "BoF87 Champions" banner hanging from a roof on one of the two stands. For the first time, the Despair Girls looked like they weren't the team that would win by hook, crook or despairful tactics leaving their foes writing long, elabrate books to try and stop them next time by. For Chrystill Emoran, nothing really clicked in place as expected.

...Except for the early game tactics. Somehow they ended up with SHZ scoring a goal, from none other than the girl that won them that Baptism trophy. Only problem? The Democratic Unionist Cool Kids, 250 positions below them, were just too damn cool. Like a band of 11 high-fivin' guys they almost immediately turned a "huh, we actually did something good outside of positionless despair" moment into a moment of sheer despair. The bad kind, for the hosts. Sabrina Walter commented from the bench that the away side looked like "they were wearing sunglasses, and oh I do LOVE sunglasses". Barely anybody could remember what the players looked like by full time though, as they undoubetly went away in a set of getaway cars that damaged the pitch. Thank goodness Matchday 4 was an off day. A bye, as they called it, so the Despairing Soccer Ground could be put back up to snuff for Txakhaxi to welcome them in.

In humbling moments like these, sometimes the squad just needs to unwind for once. It was early days, but any small chances of them somehow winning the group and earning an automatic spot to West Pavola were dead and buried unless something dramatic happened. This was the World Cup qualifiers of course, dramatic stuff could happen whenever and wherever, but that was besides the point. 16 matchdays to go, 14 more games for this team, and the best hope they had was finishing 3rd. Yes it would still be a damn good job for a debutant but it wasn't going to be an astronomically despairful success.

All Emoran could do was... Oddly enough not fire Pavola up and instead figure out what made that moment against DUCK tick. Bunny Colt had gotten the ball straight from Belle St. John, a typical midfielder-to-forward pairing, before she took one touch and fired the ball across the goal line. Looking back at the game tape during the opposing kickoff, all she saw that startled her was that defense. It was acting on its own. Rogue positionless despair when her tactics and everybody else was in sync. Hence that equalizer quickly after the first goal and then the one that put DUCK in the lead away from their own home ground. That back line was so excited that they broke ranks early and that led to their unraveling. When everybody was positionless, it was impossible to score more than a goal because of the "defense" spending too much time positionless.

Chrystill had two options. She could tell her defense to straighten up or maybe perhaps call the qualification race too hard if they were going to mess up like that. She decided to go for the former. Tori Palmer, Eulalia Scarlett, Jocelyn Lyon and Pearle Linton, the "defense" for that match, were given extra scrutiny once training for Golfo central arrived. Practice after practice of goals in a position-rigid state, looking at all four of them to see if they got positionless. On the couple times they all did, as suspected, they leaked out goals. The most egregious one? Linton. Every single time her "team" scored, she went out of position. So, for Golfo central, she was given a lovely spot on the bench, purely to be used in the second half for positionless plays.

When asked about the move by DespairTimeTV, now the official home of Shin-Zetsubo Despairing Soccer, the manager simply said "I don't want any sudden shifts in our favor to destabilize our squad. Lynton has been nothing more than a super destabilizer, and if we're not careful we're not going to even have a chance at the playoff. That's my best case goal for this team. Golfo central should be a little bit easier because I did what was best for our chances." It was off to the Central Gulf (again, not golfing central) for the Despair Girls from there, and with it came the despair the home squad would get, maybe, that they wouldn't get early goals because the tactics misfired.

Kuroda Looking Forward To Last Matchdays During Excellent Campaign
by Natsumi Miyasaki | Sports - Football |
ImageSHARE THIS: Image

The cities of Kandorith are again filled with excitement as the qualification round for World Cup 100 begins. As the qualification round for World Cup 100 begins, the Mekahi team has already made a strong impression in their first two matches. The Mekahi team has already made a strong impression in their first two matches, securing a narrow victory in one and experiencing a thrilling defeat against the 22nd-ranked team in the world, Banija, in the other. The positive start to the qualifiers is a source of pride for both the team and the fans, as Kandorith has already secured three points. The focus for the Kandorese team now lies on the upcoming matches. First, Kandorith faces The North Polish Union at the Empress Masumi Stadium, followed by an away match against the 251st-ranked Libonesia.

World Cup 100 is a milestone and a landmark moment in the history of the sports world, and for Kandorith, there is only one mission on the table: qualification. Kandorith, now ranked 109th, has shown steady progress following the complete reconstruction of the Kandorese Football Association and World Cup 99. Reina Kuroda has proven to be a confident coach, earning the status of a fan favourite for leading the team forward once again. Since day one, Kuroda has created a very clear team identity, focusing on a dynamic playing style with high pressing, quick transitions, and an aggressive attack. “We are not here to just participate,” Kuroda said during a press conference held by the Kandorese Football Association. “We are here to compete and qualify. Every match should reflect that it is a step towards World Cup 100; every point is earned, not given. We cannot underestimate anyone.”

Kandorith has been drawn into Group 14, filled with a few names the average football fan in the empire will surely recognise, for example, Banija, Reçueçn and maybe even Kita-Hinode. The group is also joined by Libonesia, The North Polish Union, the Shiverian Republics, Soviet Kem, and Minoptra. With Banija and Reçueçn being the clear favourites. "No team is unbeatable," Kuroda noted. "Rankings are not a means to an end; we focus on the match in the here and now. We have seen massive upsets in qualification and the World Cup itself before."

The Mekahi squad remains unchanged from the previous World Cup Qualifiers, as these young players are still the "best the nation has to offer," according to Kuroda. The squad is a balance of rigid defending and all-out explosive attacking and counter football. In front, the Imakazawa Ravens striker Kenji Fujimoto is flanked by Nishimura and Endo on the wings. The midfield is centred around captain Sora Ito, who plays the same role as they do with Ginza Victory: an attacking yet controlling central midfielder who feeds the ball to the front three and joins the defence when needed. The two central midfielders, Yamamoto and Kobayashi, are the duo who connect the defense and attack. The back consists of the most rigid defenders of Kandorese football and is the wall that protects Riku Mori at all costs. Riku Mori is the only player in the squad who is not from the "greats" of football in Kandorith, but has proven themselves to be an excellent goalkeeper not just for the national team but likewise in the domestic league.

Slow Start, Explosive Performance Against Giants

Kandorith's World Cup 100 campaign started at a completely packed Empress Masumi stadium versus the fresh Baptism of Fire team: Minoptra, who came third in Group 1. While fans widely agree that Kandorith should have done better, it seemed more that Kuroda was still experimenting with some of the team positions and starting eleven, as the team was completely flipped upside down to favour the reserves instead of the normal starting stars. At no moment in the match did Mekahi seem to be in danger and was more occupied with controlling the match instead of scoring as many goals as possible. A composed, small margin of 1 - 0 for the first three points for Kandorith.

The first away match was a whole different beast when it comes to the matchup. Kandorith faced the top seed Banija at the Istria Olympic Stadium and would have their first major challenge carved out for them. In a very open and attacking quick-paced game, there were no dull moments. Both Kandorith and Banija were battling for the win, and eventually Kandorith tried playing for the draw. With Kandorith opening the score, some started thinking of a miracle. Banija's composure eventually proved fatal for Kandorith, as Banija prevailed with two late goals against Mekahi, resulting in a 4-3 loss for the Kandorese. "A very valuable lesson," Kuroda said with a clear optimistic expression. "Even I thought we'd take the win home surely, but I think it was a matter of losing composure against a tough side in the closing stages of the game. I am very proud of the team as a whole and it shows that we can hold ourselves against football giants when we need to. I think the players have learnt a lot from this match too, and we will only improve from here on."

North Polish Union and Libonesia Next

From here on, Kandorith will face the next challenges, the matches against The North Polish Union, who, in their first World Cup Qualifiers, WC99, finished 8th in Group 13. Reina Kuroda welcomes this match wholeheartedly. "Our team is completely fit and high in confidence," they stated. "Our upcoming opponent seems to employ a defensive style of play with a 3-4-3 formation, and this is where we need to take our advantages. I think we can take advantage of our flanks and quick pace to break through their defensive lines. With playing at home, we also have the home crowd with us, and with the last two matches, our morale is top-notch."

Following the meeting with The North Polish Union is a first-time meeting with Libonesia, who are joining the qualifiers for the first time since World Cup 88, where they ended 8th in Group 17. The away fixture will be a test for Kandorith's adaptability and composure when it comes to playing against any team away. "Every away game is different but also an opportunity," Kuroda said. "You can look at it like an uphill battle and the sort; I look at it as a perfect way to show what we are made of. We're not going to Indonesia just to play our qualification match; we are going there to show what we are made of and to win."

Ginza Ramen Index Hits Ƶ42: Salarymen Trade Futures Over Bowls
by Taro Sakura | Culture – Street Life |
ImageSHARE THIS: Image

The Ginza Ramen Index – an underground barometer of the nation's mood when it comes to the economy and industry – climbed to ¥42 last night, up 10% since the previous night, as optimism about the upcoming elections has reached an all-time high in the modern-day empire, as salarymen in the Gawato district of Tenkyo stared at various stock charts between slurps of tonkotsu. Stall number 47, situated on the Gawato - Itsuda monorail underpass, is now a renowned permanent place for Okada's ramen and impromptu trading after sundown. For 5 years, Okada has been running their ramen shop far away from the busy centre of Gawato and has been making a name for their interest in science and finance. Analysts even come to this ramen shop to talk finance and close deals as they choose their favourite bowl of soup and noodles.

Imakazawa netrunners have tracked the index since mid-2068, and their employees have watched it with much interest. The index has risen 28% year-to-date so far, outpacing the official inflation numbers and even the Tokyo Imperial Exchange index. Okada, 63, has seen it all. "When I started, my father owned the stall, and I took over after he became seriously ill." Knowing that they want to continue the family business of our ramen shop. "Back then, a bowl of ramen was 12 Zai, and Hiyashi was still selling radios instead of holoscreens," Okada said as they wiped the counter with a rag older than neural implants. "Now the salarymen of all corporations have turned my shop into somewhat of a corporate gambling den. They talk corporate deals, buy and sell stocks to one another, and whatnot."

The stall remains a traditional ramen shop apart from one detail: a holoscreen showing the latest market news, the TIE index and, of course, the now-famous ramen index. 'How does it work?' we asked Okada, and he chuckled. "Well, Hiyashi owns this piece of land, and we shopkeepers can exploit it for a 0.7% cut of everything we sell." Most of this, of course, goes back into our business and the community. They call it street maintenance. Regulars check in; their payment corporation automatically deducts the price of the ramen, and we cook their meal following their choice." From here, the conversation turns to the stock market, futures and even corporate moves. "We also get many large-profile clients here who have some insight into the market as a whole. We have wagers on football sometimes, but most of the time it's the elections, corporate data, and stock market changes, and from here it goes wild. A lot of the regulars started muttering that they always had positive results after eating here, so they decided that my broth was a stock commodity too."

Across the underpass, other stalls started following Okada's example. Small holoscreens, sometimes cracked, show both the current updated prices of their products and the happenings in the stock market until closing time. The next large-scale happening at these stalls is the upcoming Kandorese national election. Okada believes that stock prices will soar, and with that, the prices in Area 7 in Gawato will most likely rise too. Nothing about this index is official, but to the hard-working salaryman in Gawato, it is very much real and a way of life.

A brief note before this report:
Shadow boxing is a very simple game with two players. Player 1 tries to get Player 2 to look in the same direction as them. If successful, then they go that way and then another direction. If successful again, then if Player 2 gets caught three times in a row, they lose. If Player 1 fails to do the previous task, Player 2 gets a chance, and each player takes turns until someone gets caught 3x in a row or they get caught a total of 20 times. If someone gets caught 3 times on their opponent's first turn, they have been one-boxed. With that, onto the news report!

LIVE FROM UTOPIATOPIA IS
our normal bloxburg reporter again, interviewing NotJustBry4 on our last two matchdays (still in idk where)

Reporter: So how did the first couple games go?

NotJustBry4: Great! We tied a decent-ranked team 2-2, and we one boxed Dantopia 3-0.

Reporter: What do mean by one boxed?

NotJustBry4: We scored on 'em once, then twice, then "ONE TWO CHEESE ON 3" scored on those guys twice, man! It was awesome!

Reporter: So who do you have next?

NotJustBry4: We play Chromatika and Abanhfleft today. Whoops, better go head to the stadium over there.

Reporter: Okay, I hope you tie them.

NotJustBry4: We will! OK WE ARE OUT!

The Majistar dynasty has ruled over the dual islands since its inception, hundreds of years of an unbroken line that has sat at the head of the Pasargan government. It has not come without obstacles though, most recently a few decades ago the succession crisis threatened to end not only the rule of the Majistars over the nation, but also attempted to eradicate the entire family line and additionally demolish the monarchy as a whole. There was also the migration of the Pariis, the original founders of modern Pasarga, who had to have fled from their ancestral homelands at the threat of the sword, and it was here that the dynasty was founded in the first place. Takil Majistar the First rallied the people and helped navigate treacherous and unknown waters for several years before the Pariis found the dual islands in northern Rushmore and settled them, setting up their new home. The Pariis has been running low on food and supplies and the finding of these two uninhabited islands was seen as a gift from the Eternal Flame, which had been kept safe on Majistar's ship even among the voyage and all the storms that the migrant fleet had faced in their travels for a new homeland.

Three decades ago, the family and its extended branches and cadet houses had over forty surviving members, yet the succession crisis where the rogue parliamentarians and their rebel mercenary forces had nearly succeeded in their goal and had wiped out all of the house but the crown Prince and Princess, Iskander and Azra, as well as their cousin Aslan. While wisdom might have said it would be for the best that all three living members of the house were to marry outside of it and have as many kids as they could, Azra and Aslan decided to marry to reunite the extended branches of the house after the devastation of the succession crisis, now having an eight year old son of their own, Mahdi. Mahdi is now the crown prince, after Azra succeeded her family as the monarch and became Queen following the crisis, Iskander remaining a crown prince and in the line of succession following Azra and any of her offspring. While Iskander has yet to marry, there is plenty of reports from the palace that the twenty-nine year old bachelor is looking for courtship both for love but also for duty of bolstering the family line once more.

Through the years, with plenty of trials and tribulations, the Majistars have guided Pasarga to where she is today to a place of near tranquility. The last century has seen the Euran modernization project that over the course of the decade brought the nation and her population into the modern world, helped establish a true military rather than solely relying on the royal household guard, establish a form of representative government that works hand in hand with the monarchy, joined the Common Rushmori Community, and helped heal from the devastation of succession crisis. The path has not been easy and the family has helped to pave their own way at time for both themselves as well as the nation, and yet here both stand unbroken and standing strong. The resiliency of the the Majistars matching that of the Eternal Flame, the center focus of the religion here in the dual islands, being a beacon of hope and the demonstration for all within the lands to follow, so that whatever obstacle arises that you know you have the strength within you to come through the other side.

Iskander frowned as his sister and one of her ladies in waiting were fussing over him, pulling on his shirt, jacket, and pants trying to make sure that he looked presentable for his appearance out in public as a representative for crown. "Remind me sister, why am I have to make a showing at this silly sporting event, I do not even enjoy sport nor am I the most charismatic of people. I do not think that this appearance at some football game is really required."

Azra made one final adjustment to his collar and then stood back to look over her brother, looking rather dapper in a casual suit and his hair styled quite fashionably, Talia had done a great job in making Iskander actually look the part of a crown prince rather than a rich kid with nothing to keep them entertained. "Because my dear brother you are a prince of the house of Majistar and sometimes we have to do things we do not want to do to win favor with the public and show that we are not completely removed from their world. I have attended many of these national team games despite my own lack of interest in the sport and each time it has gone over quite well with the population. They want to see that we are not so far removed from them that we can not recognize where they are coming from or what their needs and wants might be. Who know, you might even actually enjoy yourself, the games themselves, I found that they can be quite riveting."

Iskander frowned but he knew better to argue with his sister when she has made up her mind about something and it was not like he had something more pressing to do. "Well, we shall see about entertaining but if it will help with the public image, I suppose I can do so. It is our heritage after all as Majistars to be leaders of the people and to attend to their needs, whatever that might be."

After going behind to a well-placed header from a corner kick just before the half, the Panthers needed something to change. Change it did, when Marvelous Koleoso introduced Dieumerci Pourrien at the break, reshuffling his team to make use of the pace in his squad to counter-press more effectively, and break down the Ochres' energy-sapping possession game. Pourrien would score a brace within the space of seven action-packed minutes just after the hour mark. The first, of his own making, being the only player to not abandon the press, and intercepting a somewhat sloppy lateral pass on the edge of the Ochres' box before rifling home with his second touch. The second, he owed much more to Olukorede Oyekan, Bérénice Quraishi, and Sherwin Gilmore. Oyekan's large frame and aerial presence halted an attacking sequence from the away side some ten yards outside the Cobrio box, and he immediately found captain Quraishi. Quraishi then launched the counter attack, finding Gilmore in space as he streaked down the wing. Pourrien and Burke were both targets in the middle, but the younger man slowed his run just enough to create space on the edge of the box. Burke's initial effort was blocked, and the ball fell perfectly for Pourrien to net his second. Koleoso would make two more changes shortly after, bringing in Emecheta to press from the front, while sacrificing Chilcott for Azuonye to smother the Ochres in midfield.

The first away game of the campaign went almost exactly to plan, with a Clarence Burke double either side of a Sherwin Gilmore strike putting Cobrio well in control before the hour mark. A late lapse allowed the home side to pull a goal back, but Marvelous Koleoso preferred to focus on the positives, highlighting the clinical nature of Burke's two finishes. "We know he will do this thing," Koleoso said, of Burke. "He has another sense. If Clarence is within fifteen paces of the goal, you have to believe he can score. Even when he cannot see the goal. He reminds me in this way of Babatunde [Warrington]." Indeed, Burke's second -- a first time strike across his own body from Chilcott's right-wing cross, into the bottom left corner -- must be seen to be believed. Dieumerci Pourrien started on the bench, despite his magnificent performance against the Ochres, and ultimately did not feature in the game at all, prompting questions for Koleoso. "Demé is still young, so we are managing him, na," he said. "I have spoken to him and he knows the situations. We are fine." Pourrien may dispute that claim, having borne an expression of discontent for much of the last thirty minutes of the game, while sat on the bench. He was not made available for comment after the game.

Demé knew what Marv meant. He understood. He even agreed, to some extent. But... he was still frustrated. Judging by the media coverage, it had been pretty clear on his face too. He'd have to have another talk with Marv about that later, let him know it wasn't personal. Or at least that he didn't think it was personal. Besides, Demé had other problems to contend with. Marv was, as usual, right. Didn't really matter how well Demé was playing in Tikariot -- and he was playing well, in fairness. Things hadn't quite been the same when playing for Cobrio since that incident. It still haunted him. Sure, roughly a year had passed since then, but he still didn't understand what had happened that day. He felt no different. But he knew, deep down, that while nothing was wrong, something wasn't right. A lot of strange things had happened around that time. Especially that old man. He'd not heard from that him since, despite actively trying to find him. Nobody knew the name Ebunebu. It wasn't even a real name, apparently, since there were literally no records of a child with the name being born in Cobrio or Osarius within the last hundred years. The old man was old, but not that old, so who in Tiquoia was he? There was nothing else to go on, either. Like what had he meant by "the bearer of the gift"? And why was he so interested in Demé?

Some things the old man had mentioned, Demé had managed to research, but... it wasn't enough. These questions remained, threatening to derail Demé's career, so he'd started seeing a therapist. Well... he'd tried. Four different ones, in fact. Something wasn't quite right about each of them, though, one way or another. The first, he'd deliberately sought out another man of similar heritage, an Akachese-Cobre man, thinking he'd understand the unique realities Demé faced: no such luck. Instead, Demé had come away from that initial session feeling judged, somehow. Next, he'd tried the complete opposite and had tried sessions with an Osarian woman. She had been far less judgmental, Demé felt (much to his surprise, in all honesty), but she simply could not understand the depth of what he was feeling. She told him so herself. The third therapist was a middle-aged Cobre woman, an "auntie", as he might call her. Demé liked her, but he felt as though she treated him too much like a child. Like someone to be protected. While she had helped him navigate some issues -- issues he hadn't known existed in some cases -- he hadn't felt like he was getting any closer to the answers he sought. The most recent attempt was Aquilliana, and while she understood -- and possible even shared -- Demé's simmering fury at... well, many things... he once again felt as though the answers he really wanted, maybe even needed at this point, were getting no closer.

As he sat in the airport lounge waiting for the flight home -- well, "home", he surmised, since the flight was most certainly not taking him to Akach -- he tapped a message to the next therapist into his phone. This time, he had no idea what kind of person was on the other side of the door. "Perhaps you dey look too closely," Marv had suggested after the home game at Tukari Kaita National Stadium a few days ago. Things like this made Demé believe Marv when he said he was doing what he thought was best. There was something about the man. A sincerity that really touched the soul. Like a song no-one else could hear, resonating with the beating of your own heart. Things like that -- things that could be sensed by something unknown within yourself, and held no rational explanation -- happened sometimes. Didn't they? Marv had become kind of like an uncle to Demé at this point, and definitely got along well enough with his father that if they had looked remotely alike, nobody would believe they weren't actually brothers. So he had asked the manager to put him in contact with someone. The therapist, whoever they were, used a "professional name" -- not uncommon in Cobrio, it was a sort of branding, Demé supposed -- which gave away nothing except that they were Cobre. As one would expect of a Marv recommendation. The name -- Ubenu Beledo -- also sounded male, but that was a nebulous thing in Cobrio. Most names were ungendered.

Demé glanced at the clock. The flight would not board for another hour or so, and it was a long flight. 'Probably best to schedule the meeting for a couple days from now,' he thought to himself. 'Give myself time to rest first.'
Finally free of the oppressive yoke of the Osarian Kingdom.

Dēmos Vs Chromatika

Postby Atymnius » Tue Oct 28, 2025 11:13 am

M: I, Mike Hattenborough, am proud to present this intense match that features Dēmos against a daunting opponent: Chromatika. This team, ranked 16th in the world, will surely bring the challenge.

Apostoleri: That is indeed correct Mike. Will we see something from, Spanish Salamander Rafail Paleas today?—

MATCHDAY 1:
DĒMOS VS CHROMATIKA

In adverse conditions, it is up to us to rise when no one thinks we cannot.

Such was the reality of this match. A 16th-ranked team in the world shows that numbers are mere fallacies of the distorted mind—a mere
player whose time on the stage signals nothing. A brave assumption.

The lights dimmed. The ambience was invariably set.

3,2,1—

GAME!

The Dēmosian defense half was at first intense. Much of the defenders went deep into their own halves alongside with the rest of the disjunctive midfield as their formation was played on the harp-string-tunes of one particular player: Howard-Dawes.

Let me play you a tune you won’t forget~

Playing indeed he was, he soprano-ed round Whyatou and making a beautiful androgynous waltz above Tyolius’ line of sight, was only non-waivered by Ghant.

The two immediately danced.

A pirouette straight into each other’s hearts this dance was like no other. They held each other’s arm at a meter’s distance.

From the bells of St Petersburg to the clocks of Moscow
Let this dance never end!

Image

Indeed they were in a ball room. Howard-Dawes tipped lightly around an increasingly anxious Ghant as the local Soviet papers-man gave Ghant a newspaper. Irritated as it partially distracted him it read aloud:

Time to go back to Bethlehem!

Mike: GOALLL! A magnificent volley while Ghant was right in front of him, the anxious confrontation has ended.

An audible silence came over Ghant.

Apostoleri: Indeed Mike. A nicker of a shot from outside the box—

A disturbing silence made it’s presence known.

The scene faded to grey.

Ghant: When will I pick-up the pieces Almighty? Am I destined to this existentialist-drivel all my life!?

Ha—

Haha—

HAHAHAHAHA!

He leapt up in joy to his Creator. Holding his indicipherable figure around his flushed cheeks.

He stared back at the screen, eyes pride-lion amber.

Mike: Alright. We begin with Dēmos 1-0 down to a now proud Chromatikan team! The team itself clapped their hands as they high-fived each other.

This match was of no concern to them.

Ghant: Right, the Lord will guide me as he always has.

Image

Immediately with the resolution of a man who dances with much grace, he murmured whispers. These murmurs, light and buoyant they were, sent their echoes to his teammates.

Tý would subsequent pass back to the Dēmosian defense as Ghant passed an impressive through-ball to Theodosis who was in the clear. His eyes, encircled by his right hand, pointing to checkmate.

Theodosis led with the rush of a sharp, Cavalrian stallion towards an open-clear.

Apostoli: GOAL!

Yet Ghant played his strings again, and yet immediately he was in the clear (again!). The Spanish Salamander, Rafail sent him off.

R: Go get it!—

Yet one player wanted a duet once-more.

Howard: I hope you’ll accompany me again! he smiled cheekily.

G: Hehe, let’s dance!

A Victorian era duet of classicism was once-more played between him and Howard-Dawes.

Having their masks on this time, Howard-Dawes twirled Ghant around his figure.

Howard: You know in the English country of Warwickshire I’ve never met quite a dazzle! Where’d you come from?~

Ghant: Hehe. Let me dazzle you some more.

*pat*

Immediately Howard found himself in an unfamiliar palace bedroom as he looked to the Sun dishevelled—

Mike: GOALLL! Ghant nutmegged Howard as the defense, all the way at their half-way line were left for dead!

Howard chuckled lightly—

She’is all states and all Princes I,
Nothing else is!

(— Sun Rising, John Donne)

Starting the game at half-time, Ghant would subsequently keep the momentum as he scored another in the 68th minute followed by a penalty-kick by Rafail at the 90th minute.

And soon the final whistle blew on this auspicious harvest.

Mike: Well that was a whirlwind of emotion. Apostoli what would you think of it?

Apostoli: It indeed was. Chromatika lost pace and Ghant really put in the work today, fair play to the gaffer.

The teams would wrap up their proceedings however Howard wanted more.

He kissed Ghant’s hands, smiling, he said:

H-D: I hope we can dance together again in our next encounter Signior!

He patted the test-tubed prodigy on the back, knowing in experience, he still had the upper-hand.

Good to be Back
Eshialand 3-2 Shell Shock Troop Clan

"Well Luke, is it good to be back on the team or what?" Keiar Forsen asked the captain, returning from his mental health sabbatical.
"HELL YEAH!!"

There was no better feeling for Lucas than being back in action. This was the longest he had ever been out of the game, and he was waiting months for a chance to touch that ball again. Heck, he wanted to come back for the final rounds of the CE, but unfortunately those final rounds never materialized, and he arrived in South Newlandia just a little too late to participate in the action against Kanzlia.

There were some questions about whether his break from the game was enough for him to fully be himself again. Sure, he felt fine now, but who knows what sort of event could trigger the flashbacks again and leave him crawling right back to Dr. Markon's office? "Don't worry about that," he told reporters when the roster was announced with him on it, "Kwrpania hosting means I won't have to see Magnws-rym until at least the last 48. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, but for now I don't see anything stopping me from playing the best damn football I ever have in my life."

The group draw itself left some very interesting matchups: most notably among them was probably Captina Island, who recently qualified for their first World Cup and would be the biggest competition for the Owls in this group, and a couple of very interesting nations with a great deal of history: a Krytenia team which time-travelled 200 years to be here after the present-day nation of Krytenia collapsed, and their opening match, which would be against a team from the chaotic remnants of what was once the great footballing nation of Aguazul. Never has an unranked team looked scarier.

While the Owls took their bye day, which was somewhat inconveniently MD1, they kept themselves busy keeping an eye on the match between Shell Shock Troop Clan and newcomers AJTON. Owing to this being the historic 100th edition of the World Cup, there were a great deal of newcomers showing up in this group: not only SSTC (well, they're sort of newcomers) and BoF squad AJTON, but three other teams from this year's BoF87: Putrasia, Nergtul, and Montagne Noire - yes, they are all dogs. No, nobody has asked the Felinetopians if they're afraid of them. Unfortunately, we may not be finding out, since they were drawn into a group with Atheara.

Oh, yeah, there was an Athearan team for the first time since World Cup 94. Needless to say, Kenny Morgan was already trying to arrange a friendly. Welcome to WC100, where teams both new and old kept springing up from absolutely nowhere... this was going to be a fun one regardless of how anything went.

While WC99 may have had a disappointing ending, none of that disappointment could be felt in Eshialand City as the first whistle tweeted on the 100th. Standing room only tickets were sold until the stadium hit a capacity of 77,777... ostensibly, this was capped for safety reasons, but there were theories around that the Federation was fishing for a lucky charm, in whatever form that may take -- a bunch of 7s would surely do the job, right?

While the capacity may have been a sort of lucky number, all eyes were on the number 32, as Meilling was lauded as a hero stepping back onto the pitch. He hated being the face of the team, the one everyone turned to to bring this team success, but he just had to swallow his insecurities and put up with it. People were going to cheer like this, he couldn't really stop them. He could, however, just do a better job at not letting their thoughts get to him. If they lost, it wouldn't be his fault, even if those idiots in Section C (you know who you are!) decided to nitpick every single step he took. Just relax, breathe, and let the football play itself.

Everything that happened in the next 90 minutes would be the whole team's work, not that of any player.

This reintroduces a character from a CoH 85 RP. Apologies if you don't like Eshian Cinematic Universe mumbo-jumbo, but this will make sense on its own.

"Name?"
"Ketereho Evatene, PhD Candidate in the Aleiravan Studies program."

"There's an Aleiravan Studies program?" Eshialand City University Dean Jacob Hallie muttered under his breath. He was new to the position, and not completely in tune to all the arts and humanities projects that his predecessor, Aliana Peters, set up. Hallie earned his doctorate in theoretical physics, helping lay the groundwork for Dr. Silas Johnstone's rift experiments which brought Eshialand to Esportiva. To him, the sciences were the most demanding of university attention, and any of this liberal arts and history hokey-pokey were just another money sink.

"Yes, I'm working under Dr. Vake'ora Te'ahori, and she told me to talk to you about an expedition to the Kia'u Islands... I heard the Petake*-- erm, sorry, king, was setting up a trip to the islands so we could finally find out what actually happened to the society there..."
"The king didn't tell me about this..."

While it may seem strange that Hallie would not know of such a thing, remember that this is King William we're talking about. If anyone in all of Eshialand would announce spending millions of dollars on a questionable idea without telling the powers that be a damn thing, it would be him.

"I mean, you can call him if you want, or call Dr. Te'ahori, she would be able to tell you everything you need to know..."
"Can you please leave my office for a moment? You're right, Dr. Te'ahori does deserve a call."

Ketereho stepped out of the room while Dr. Hallie placed his call. He couldn't quite make out what he was saying, but the volume was enough to give away that he wasn't exactly happy with this.

"Well, at least it's the king's money and not the university's... come back in Ketereho, I'd like to chat with you!"
"Yes sir?" he said as he took his seat again.
"Dr. Te'ahori informed me about the details of the mission... and I have some news for you, you might like it."
"Oh? What's going on?"
"Not only are you going to be headed to New Alikonora... but she wants you to take the lead on the expedition. She'll be there to supervise, but you're going to be the one calling the shots."

Ketereho was dumbstruck. Here he was, not even 25 and without even a clue what his PhD thesis was going to be... and he was going to lead what looked like it was going to be the greatest Eshian archaeological mission of all time. "She... what?!"
"She clearly has a lot of trust in you. You're her favorite student she's ever had, and she told me nobody else was more qualified for the job. You've got this."
"I... I'll start packing my things. When do we leave?"
"Next week Friday."
"Got it. I won't let either of you down sir. I promise."

Ketereho rushed out of the office, excited to finally have his big break... and as for Hallie?

"Thank Margaret I won't be hearing from that idiot historian for a while. Kooks, all of them."

*OOC Note: Petake is the Aleiravan word for King, and the official title of King William I on the island, following the 28 (or 29, depending on how you want to count Pahutokalu's two reigns) native Aleiravan kings before Fyodor Tereyev. While it wouldn't be wrong for Ketereho to call him Petake, after all he is Aleiravan and studying Aleiravan history, it's weird in context since Hallie is an Eshian in Eshialand who doesn't care much for the Aleiravan program.
Anything I say is IC unless proven otherwise by a court of law.

The crowd was not sure how to feel when the final whistle of the game at Calgasia inside The Stalking Dragon, as the game had not gone entirely as the crowd had anticipated. The Valanora Times had told the populace that the Marauders were set to have a fairly easy go of it in their qualifying group, as it had been a fairly kind to the second ranked team in the game. However the game at sixty-fourth ranked team had been anything but a walk in the park, the Marauders just about edging it in a nine goal thriller. Combined with how the team was dominant but had not really taken their chances in the home and qualifying opener against Gyaromia, it left a weird feeling for the fans after the first international break was at a close. The team had gotten the full six points but it could have just as easily ended in four or two on another international break, with the way that the Marauders were not looking quite ready for the opening of the qualification campaign.

"Is Ellzidan trying to not secure an extension on her contract after the ARC? After the last ARC, you would think she and her staff would have this team rip roaring and ready to go at the start of the campaign, especially knowing that only the group winners are automatically making the Finals, yet this team looked absolutely like it was sleep walking through those first two games. If we are really trying to chase for that sixth title, the team has to show up more ready than what they looked like over the last few days." One of the more intoxicated individuals said at the bar as some of the dozens of fans who had been in the pub began to funnel out of the building. The ones who were remaining either were actually there for the food or were the type of diehards that loved to banter with one another after the matches.

"Well it was not the greatest showing I will give you that, though we did get all six points from the window and with how chaotic that qualification can be at times, sometimes you simply have to take the wins however they come. While the team could have been more clinical at home against Gyaromia and the defense could have been a bit more stern in this game, it is still six from six. Given that Squornshelous lost one of their opening matches and they are the only team ranked higher than us in the rankings, have to be pleased with at least gathering full points. The team has their bye in the first half of the next international window next month before hosting sub three hundred ranked Orioni, that is as good of a chance as any to really flex our might with only one game in the window and it is at home. If Haaland is as sharp in that game as he was at Calgasia, then we are going to be just fine." Said the gentleman next to his friend, far less in his spirits than his compatriot was, having only had one glass of one compared to the three of his friend.

"That sounds like a lot of optimism that seems misplaced after we nearly dropped points in our first away game, we do not want this to become a pattern where away from the Empire teams think that the Marauders can be had. We have seen how that works out in the past against other top level teams who have issues playing away from their home stadiums and it usually leads to prolonged and stressful qualifying campaigns that do not always work out for the higher ranked team. The Marauders have very lofty goals, we as fans have to keep the national team accountable and not resting on their laurels, no matter how good they might be. We failed to win the hosting duties and we have failed to win a title in time space that was longer than it took to win the first five, we can not simply accept being merely good enough. We have to demand to be elite, we have to demand the very best effort from every player in every game, we are almost everyone else's World Cup Final and they are going to play at their best even if we are not. There is no margin for error, especially in this new, more chaotic era that the expansion to forty-eight has allegedly ushered in."

"That sounds a lot like the way that Hawk talks and it is well documented that his mentality is not for everyone, his ability to live up to his impossible standards is what makes him such an unique individual. This is just a sport at the end of the day and we can only really ask the players to try their best and hope that at the end of the match that it has been good enough to secure the win. Do that enough times and you win a trophy, that is all the World Cup really is at the end of the day. There is only ever one winner and this edition there are going to be over two hundred seventy losers, the odds are not great to be that one. It is our job to try and be that edge that gives our team the chance to make those odds better, that's a positive relationship with the team and anything else is something negative. You do not want that over something as silly as a game my friend, not when there are far greater issues going on in the world more than just twenty-two lads and lasses kicking a rubber ball around a field of grass."

✣CANZARIA QUOTIDIANO✣

A LOOK INTO THE IDEOLOGY OF PANJUVENISM

Panjuvenist ideals are a driving force for hundreds of millions of people all across Sonnel, in nations such as Oscioru, Juvencus, Al Qurija, Montagnaverde and beyond. They have shaped and still do shape societies, reactions to political and non-political events and altogether affects the majority of the lives of people all over the multiverse for hundreds of years now. Recently, such ideals have seeped into the multiversal sporting scene mostly through the behavior of Juven fans towards people of places where languages similar to the ones of Juvencus(as well as Oscioru) are spoken. It has also been expressed in the new unified Campionato through clashes of clubs and fans of different stances in the ideological spectrum. Politically, the functional opening of the borders of Juvencus and Oscioru in what is now known as the Vinceti Pact, has given the ideology of Panjuvenism a spot in the spotlight yet again.

What is Panjuvenism?: Panjuvenism is the ideology which promotes that all romance-language speaking populations throught the multiverse have a mutual ancestry that stems from modern-day Juvencus. It is the notion that such populations need to be unified under a confederation in its calmest form or under a singular banner in its most extremist form. It is more accentuated by other facts, especially common religion or racial characteristics. Though commonly expressed mildly by the average person(mostly in the form of cultural exchange), Panjuvenism has taken a more aggressive turn in recent memory. This is manifested through the wild behavior of Panjuvenist people towards other romance-language speaking populations and the mentality of forceful assimilation. Examples of that include clashes of Juven and Cardenaoan fans in recent memory, banners in matches involving countries such as Sargossa, Huayramarca, Reçueçn among others and the online rhetoric of Panjuvenist politicans and activists.

The Roots of Panjuvenism: While Oscioru has remained mostly unified throught its history since the 10th century AD, Juvencus was split into multiple states with two main poles of power. Those being Pomena and Scudelli. Historically speaking, geography played a big factor in how languages and cultures of the populations diverged and they did, significantly. Despite that, varying degrees of mutual intelligibility remained and in addition to that were languages of prestige, which most of the time was the language of the big population centers, those being Pomenienze(mostly spoke in the west of Juvencus and connected to the majority of the center of Oscioru through the Pomen belt) as well as Scudellois(spoken in the east of Juvencus, as well as patches of its southwest and the northwest of Oscioru). Over time, traders, merchants, generals and politicians noticed the similarities of these populations and were eager to point them out. The first person to coin the term of Panjuvenism was a Sudjuven traveller, linguist and folklorist, Fernando Artigas Gutierrez in 1822. A man of consistent moving all around Juvencus and Oscioru, based primary in Vinceti, Demene and Bresca, he would be the first to pinpoint cultural and linguistic similarities of ethnic Juven people all across modern-day Juvencus and Oscioru in a scientific manner.

While his research and writings were initially ignored, they eventually gained traction and were used to fuel unification movements in the different split states. This culminated in the two Great Unification Wars, the first in the 1840s which ended in defeat and then next from the mid-1870's until 1892. While Fernando Artigas Gutierrez would die not long after the first Great Unification War, he is credited as a unifying factor in the nation and Gianluca IV's biggest influence. In Oscioru he has a mixed reputation, while respected for scientifically proving common ancestry between populations of northern Suntae he is also seen as a direct factor that led to the Juven Occupation of Oscioru in the 1890's. Following the great unification wars and the occupation, Panjuvenism was used politically to exert influence in Oscioru, in Montagnaverde as well as the Juven diaspora of Al Qurija. Eventually, with multiversal travel being even more accessible than it has ever been, this led to the theory being used as an imperialist theory upon other peoples.

Figures of Panjuvenism: Alongside Fernando Artigas Gutierrez, another great figure was Duke of Pomena and eventual Holy Emperor Gianluca IV. He used Panjuvenism as a tool to take as many people as possible to the side of his cause and succeesfully managed to unify modern-day Juvencus and also temporarily occupy Oscioru later on. This has been the closest we have gotten to the fullest manifestation of the ideology. In the 1950s, prime minister Socrates Volina exerted an influential external affairs policy that split the nation of Montagnaverde that still affects the nation to this day. Using language, religion and an excellent spy and propaganda network managed to convince tens of millions of people to revert back to their original Juven identity. Eventually the ideology of Panjuvenism picked up and in modern-day, many politicians, influencers and other people of power espouse the Panjuvenist identity, however Osci Juventu Garcia and Juven Pelagio Ferratini are known to be making waves with their cooperation and wildfire spread of the more aggressive form of the ideology.

World Cup 100: Hot Start

Sinyal came into Spolia looking to play spoiler against the Lightning. It was Sinyal grabbing an early lead, pouncing on an error from Porto de Kamijiro's Ryō Murai, who gave up way too much space to the Sinyal left winger, who placed a shot around Miraisaki United's Ichi Asumi. That's right, the 11th-highest ranked team in the KPB+ standings were on upset watch after just thirty seconds. On a night where the stars of Kamijiro - Atsuji Akaminai and a lot of the Diamond IX showed face, plus a few of the basketball league's finest, and a few movie stars. The official presentation of the silver medals for Miraisaki City was set to take place during halftime, as well... the stadium went into a stunned silence.

Raiji Kagawa called for higher pressing almost immediately, allowing his wingbacks, Tōshi Kameda and Azuma Kogushi, to get up the pitch and cause issues. And that they did. Kameda played a lovely diagonal after nicking the ball off of a poor pass by a Sinyal defender. The pass found Keigo Nakaji down the right wing. He played a lovely bit of skill to cut inside and lay it off for Nicácio Xavier, who did well to tuck it in past Sinyal's onrushing goalkeeper. 1-1 after 17 minutes. But that didn't last long, because a Sinyal counter-attack obliterated the Kamijiroan defense, with a long-ball from their goalkeeper finding their striker, who was able to get it up over Asumi - the ball dipped back down under the bar perfectly, too. 1-2 after 20 minutes.

After that, the Lightning finally seemed to shake off the rust. Another Nakaji low cross found the boot of Xavier, who was able to blast it past the keeper again to restore parity. Four goals scored in under thirty minutes? In Kagawa's 5-2-3 era? Never gonna do. Kamijiro walled up for a while after that, conceding possession and allowing Sinyal to keep the ball in positions where they couldn't do much with it. Half-time came quickly and the medal presentation went on. Mazzocchi, the groundsman, had set everything up too perfectly not to use despite the poor first-half performance from the team. The only members of the team involved in the silver medal triumph were Haruka Kagawa, Hiro Kumakiri and Ryuta Nomura, so they got to skip out on the yelling-at from Raiji in the dressing room. Lucky for them, because he was yelling so much that he damn near lost his voice and needed several cough drops plus water just to be able to communicate properly again.

The second half kicked off with Kamijiro backing into their own half again. Waiting for a mistake from Sinyal, which they were sure would come. And it did. A terrible pass from Sinyal's center-back to their left-back was pounced on by who else but Keigo Nakaji. He tore down the wing and dribbled the keeper before tapping it in. 3-2 after 68 minutes. Nakaji was subbed off shortly after with a slight knock and replaced with Kento Kanazono. Then Nicácio Xavier was subbed off for a defensive-minded player in Saiichi Demizu and the Kamijiroans dropped even deeper. The final sub came late on when Vivienne Silva, a youngster from Cascais that came through the Porto academy, was subbed on for Sōji Kokubun to move into what can only be described as a 8-2-0 formation during stoppage time and seal out the match.

The post-match interview was one of relief for the players and manager. Losing a home opener as the favorite to win the group would be extremely ugly, and the team knew that.

"Well, frankly, this is exactly what I warned them about and the result is a bit of a let-off. This would be the match where our opponent gave 120% from the starting kickoff until the final whistle," Raiji said in the presser. "And quite honestly? They failed the test in the first half. We're lucky Keigo [Nakaji] turned into some type of guided missile for their net in the second half because we would've been walking out of here with a point instead of three otherwise."

Keigo Nakaji was given player of the match for his efforts.

---

The second match was much more what Kagawa wanted. Low-scoring, grind-it-out, find a winner and move on. Al-Tamazgha proved to be a tougher opponent than Sinyal and the drop in possession time proved it. Against Sinyal, the team had around 60% possession time, which is absolutely not how they're suited to play. Al-Tamazgha took the ball and Kagawa told the team to let them have it a little more. The possession time dropped all the way down to 46%. The first half went by with no goal for either side and that was perfectly fine for Kamijiro because they were still testing the Al-Tamazgha keeper. A shot by Sōji Kokubun forced a great diving save to get tipped wide and a shot from Katsu Fujiwara nearly found the top corner but hit the crossbar. One more shot from Fujiwara was easily saved by the keeper right before half. The opener was found in the 59th minute by Sōji, who's header found net from six yards out off a corner kick. Then the Lightning sat back again. The subs for the match were used to bring on fresh legs in the midfield and defense, with Hiroshi Abiko replacing Nicácio Xavier in the 76th, Kō Kamimura replacing Kyōji Kirishima in the 81st and Hiro Kumakiri replacing Haruka Kagawa in the 90th.

As it stands, the Kamijiroans are the cream of the crop in Group 27:
P Team W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Kamijiro 2 0 0 4 2 +2 6
2 Equinox Auraterra 1 1 0 6 5 +1 4
3 Equestria 1 1 0 2 1 +1 4

The Journey S2:Ep3 Part 3

Postby Biyambi » Tue Oct 28, 2025 12:17 pm

Last Part:https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=573349&p=43138565#p43138565

(Opening scene: Black screen with sombre music playing in the background, muffled at first then slowly rising and as the music rises the screen switches. A CCTV footage shows the moment Ngwazi Strikers’ supporters break down the away dressing room door. The footage switches to a grainy, shaky phone footage. The video shows Mada Masina protecting Lothrain Vidraux from an enraged fan, we see the moment a metal rod connects with his arm and him falling.
The scene changes, it shows the players inside a bus, their faces illuminated by police lights show horror, shock, & fear.)

Voice Over:
“In football the fans are sometimes referred to as the twelfth man. The metaphorical twelfth man manifests in the form of the fans passion & energy that motivates the players to perform as if they have an extra man on the pitch. But what happens when the twelfth man turns against you like it happened at Stadiya Bayaram for Francis Chiwaya’s men?”

(Cut to the school ground at Rame V Palace Secondary School. The players jog silently, they seem drained, tension in the air. Players like Chifundo Lenpi have visible bandages and a swollen face. On the touchline watching is captain Mada Masina in a plaster of paris cast and manager Francis Chiwaya, all wearing worried expressions.)

Voice Over:
“The twelfth man had turned on the team and the aftermath; tension, doubt, fear dominated with the teams fighting spirit and energy totally drained.”

Interview Lothrain Vidraux (Ngwazi Strikers’ Left Winger):
(Lothrain sniffles and begins to speak, his voice trembling.)
“I have…. (sigh) I have honestly never seen anything like this, funs attacking their own players! (shakes his head and stares into the distant) Where I am from football is passion, yes!... (tears begin to stream down his cheeks as his voice cracks) but its never hate! I cannot wrap my mind on how fans can turn on their own players, beat them up, spit on them, scream at them …. How! How! How!... How! Can that happen when we all wear the badge?”
“I left Auprussia because I believed in the vision, the dream, the legacy that’s is Ngwazi Strikers. I wanted to grow here at Ngwazi Strikers whilst helping the club reach the pinnacle of football in Biyambi once more. But after everything that has happened, I don’t even know if it is worth it. I miss the fatherland, the snow, the cold meats, the calm streets.
” (choking on his tears) “ I miss my mothers cooking. Back in Auprussia football brings brings people together but here, it has torn us apart. I came here to become a strong player but I wasn’t ready for all this.

Harry Garnett (Ngwazi Strikers’ Goal Keeper):
Honestly, the team was broken. Our captain was out after being injured, Lenpi had stitches, & the coach had a black eye. Some players were talking about leaving, and I did’t even blame them, we never signed up to be beaten.

(Scene transitions to the players sitting down on the grass)

Francis Chiwaya (Ngwazi Strikers Manager):
Listen boys! I know you are hurt, afraid, and doubting the vision because of everything that happened. But boys true champions, true warriors, true football stars do not wait for fear. They crawl in the mad fighting with everything they got. You are my fellow soldiers, as soldiers we fight for each other first, not for the fans, not for the headlines or useless noise. We fight for each other. We play for the badge and for each other, that’s how we take back our pride. Do not let down your fellow soldier by giving up, stand up and fight side by side with him.
(As he speaks, a calmness and a new focus shows on the players faces.)

Postby The Ko-orenite Constellation » Tue Oct 28, 2025 12:44 pm

Power over the Constellation was once in the hands of the Ko-orenite ministry of Foreign Affairs. Centralised, neatly organised, with the role of each territory already neatly predestined - Irithoren for the connection to shipping lanes and trade in Esportiva, Ndugutisaoren for their photolithography, and yes, the connections were political (meritocratic) rather than economic, but the fact that each territory came with their own network of trade partners and their own industries was more than just a bonus.

That power is no longer concentrated. Not in the least because Ko-oren was written out of the Constellation documents over time - it required multiple contentious treaties but the Constellation is now in charge of itself. Power was first distributed back to each territory, but the wish to establish a supranational body was there, regardless. The degree of integration and everything else was a huge talking point, where the Irithoreni wanted to effectively create a new singular, integrated nation, while Ndugutisaoren had their eyes on basically an Esportivan Union type of thing, while Zakhoren was more than content with just a loose framework and biannual talks about furthering the meritocratic cause.

The treaty of Thelesra led to the treaty of Ntu, to the treaty of Ayokhla, to the treaty of Dhidiyah. A Ko-orenite city, then a city in Ndugutisaoren, followed by Bandar Cang Prathoren, and finally Irithoren. The latter three being the territories most interested in getting the Constellation off the ground. But with the prestige of having a treaty named after you, there was a mad scramble to be the organiser of the next landmark assembly. There was the early attempt by Mercatoren at a far-reaching treaty of Fairview - ratified by only Mercatoren - followed by an equally ambitious treaty of Shirendian in Chanmingoren - ratified by them and a handful of others.

In their wake, watered-down documents were proposed in Chutalina, in 's Riddersweelde, then a really low bar of a treaty in Tergan, Tarören, ratified by everyone but not making the history books for its tepid contents, then an attempt at getting everyone around the table in Huancarayu, Uruashoren.

But then someone in Meia-Armadoren had a great idea. "What if it's not just about political integration - what if we have a much bigger impact on citizens and their feeling of belonging to a greater entity?" They called everyone back to Chutalina.

Leaders of the Constellation, I present to you: the Associação de Futebol da Constelação.

28 out of 29 territories: "The what?"

The Constellation Football Association.

12 out of 29 territories: "Which football?"

Association football.

2 out of 29 territories: "Count me out."

Before long, there were plans of an All-Constellation Football Championship.

"We should host it, because the AFC is our idea." - Meia-Armadoren

"We should host it, because our team is best." - Ndugutisaoren, Irithoren, and Aymenoughshire-about-Oren

"We should host it, because we actually have the infrastructure and the stadium capacity." - Mercatoren, Chanmingoren, and Tarören

"We should host it, because we care about the sport." - Isidoren

"We should host it." - Bandar Cang Prathoren, Shahrbanoren, Brabensia & Batavioren

"We can't really host it." - the rest.
OOC Ko-oren puppet.
IC collection of meritocratic nations, with the collection as a whole under Ko-orenite control even if some of its member states can be a little difficult. Some are in free association with Ko-oren, some are fully independent.

Brunson Volley Vaults Lions To Victory
National Team Open Up Their Qualifying Campaign With A Win Against Dēmos

LION CITY, DANTOPIA — The Dantopian National Team began their qualifying campaign in Group 9 with an impressive victory over Dēmos (Atymnius). This home win sets the Dantopian team up nicely before their second away fixture against United States Of Alpha, and is a welcome homecoming to the international stage after a number of years in the wilderness.

Image
Michael Danchevy
The Lions opened the scoring incredibly early on, following a second ball won by Johnny Kealoha, after an aerial duel between forward Bradini Brunson and Dēmosian centre back Carmen Tyolius — who's 5'10" frame wasn't quite enough to challenge the 6'0" Brunson in the air. Kealoha then expertly played a through ball passed defender Ghant Fedoriyuvkos, leaving team captain Michael Danchevy one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Danchevy calmly slotted the ball into the far corner with the inside of his right foot, which received an absolutely huge and raucous reaction from the home crowd. What a perfect start for the Lions in their World Cup Qualifying campaign.

Rick Bishop's men held onto the narrow lead into half time despite a number of probing attacks from the Dēmosians, with striker Rafail Paleas even hitting the post about twenty minutes in. 'The Spanish Salamander' — as he is known in his home country, for his smooth, almost slithery ability to glide past opposition defenders — proved a challenging match-up for the centre-half pairing of Cromwell and Foster — the latter of whom picked up a yellow card for his efforts mid-way through the first half.

The second half saw the Lions take control of the game until about the 60th minute, when legs started to tire — not unsurprising given the lack of international experience in the side. Bishop made a series of changes to the side at this point, with Dwight Krol replacing Kaleb Kahananui — a tactical, defensive switch — and Watanabe and Fodderingham replacing Spaghetti and Adeyemi respectively in like for like swaps. Following the changes, Dēmos started to control and attack more, with the Lions dropping back a bit to form a defensive wall, in an effort to protect the lead.

Despite the best efforts of the defensive line, Dēmos were awarded a corner on the right hand side late into the game, and following a flick on to the back post from Henrick Whyatou, The Spanish Salamander himself — Rafail Paleas — was able to get a toe to the ball and into the side netting, making the scores level. This scuppered the plans of Bishop's side to absorb the pressure and maintain the lead, and two more substitutions were made to push for another goal. Off came Kealoha and Danchevy, who had both contributed for the first goal, but as needs must in the situation, a switch to a 4-2-4 was implemented, and Maverick Johnson and Jeremiah Jackson Jr. came onto the pitch. Johnson occupied the left wing — where Danchevy had his success in the first half — with JJJ and Brunson down the middle, and Fodderingham still on the right.

Image
Bradini Brunson
The increased pressure from Dantopia paid off in the 84th minute where the intense pressing of the Dēmosian backline led to a turnover and Maverick Johnson a chance to drive the ball inside from the left channel. With a perfectly timed run in behind from Bradini Brunson being met by a rather audacious — even sumptuous — chipped ball performed by Johnson, the Lion City FC striker was left with the task of drilling the ball past goalkeeper Wyetti Qūnos on the half volley, which he delivered with aplomb. The ball nestled into the top left corner, across and past the outstretched fingertips of the diving goalkeeper, and the Dantopian crowd once again went into a euphoric and fevered celebration. With just six minutes of regular time — and the five minutes of added time added on by the referee at the end — the Lions were able to hold on and deliver an ever so sweet home victory on the first attempt of this campaign.

The win sets up the Lions nicely for their second fixture against another recent Baptism of Fire participant, Untied States of Alpha. Rick Bishop's side will feel a sense of confidence going into their next fixture after overcoming a difficult first fixture against Dēmos, but will need to be wary of being overconfident now. Calm heads will need to prevail against the Alphanians — an opponent the Dantopian team have not faced before, or travelled to for that matter. Their more recent foray into international football will be fuelling the Alphanian's own confidence against the inexperienced Dantopian side.

Deflated Dantopia Defeated By Alphanians
Loss Sees Dantopia Fall Back To Earth Following Promising Start

UTOPIATOPIA, UNITED STATES OF ALPHA — Dantopia were handily dispatched at the hands of a superior United States Of Alpha side, who cruised to a three goals to nil victory in their capital city of Utopiatopia. The Lions came in overconfident following their victory in gameweek one of the World Cup Qualifying campaign against Dēmos (Atymnius), and pushed far too aggressively in the opening half hour of the match, which resulted in an easy breakaway finish from TheOtherNoobus who was left one on one with Dantopian goalkeeper Alex Bullvale, with acres of space and not a defender in sight of him.

Image
Emerson Cromwell
After TheOtherNoobus had cooly put the Alphanians into the lead, disaster struck for Dantopia ten minutes later, as a horribly deflected shot from The1onlymanuel cannoned off the side of Emerson Cromwell's head, completely dumfounding Bullvale in net, who had already dived to make what he thought would be a routine save. The wickedly deflected finish sent the Alphanian crowd into fever pitch and put the fear into the Dantopian team and away crowd. This was about to be a horror show if the Lions didn't change course fast.

Image
Dani Spaghetti
Despite the best efforts of the Dantopian forward line, a goal could not be found, with Noobus Howdoitype making save after save — in a man of the match performance from the Alphanian shotstopper. Efforts from Brunson, Danchevy and Adeyemi all hit the post at points in the first half, with the latter even hitting the woodwork again in the second half. It just seemed like one of those days where nothing was going right for the Lions. To add injury to insult — to coin a new version of the phrase — Dantopian midfielder Dani Spaghetti limped off shortly after half time with a tweaked hamstring. This isn't likely to see the Grenadiers maestro out for too long, maybe a three-to-four game stint at most, but he will need to be eased back into action slowly, as his legs aren't quite what they used to be, now he is thirty-three years of age.

Yellow cards — accumulated mostly out of frustration, more than anything — were handed to Ezra Cunningham, Emerson Cromwell and Michael Danchevy respectively — the latter of whom had a generally poor showing, despite hitting the post in the first half. Rick Bishop may want to think about resting his thirty-four year old captain and talisman at certain points in this qualifying cycle, if nothing more than to keep his legs fresh and his hunger there.

The Dantopians continued to attack relentlessly, but at about the mid-way point of the second half, United States Of Alpha struck again on the break, through lazarpay2win who was left one-on-one with Bullvale — now apoplectic with rage at his defensive line for pushing too high up yet again — and the Alphanian was able to make the lead a clear three goals in favour of the hosts. Substitutions in the second half of Lacroix; Morgan; Watanabe; N. Cunningham and Hollins for Cross; Cromwell; Spaghetti (for the aforementioned injury); E. Cunningham and Adeyemi respectively didn't materialise into anything of value for the Lions, and they slumped following the final whistle, after being defeated in a rather straightforward counter-attacking manner by an Alphanian side who barely broke a sweat.

It is very much back to the drawing board for national team manager Rick Bishop, who finds his side in sixth place in Group 9 after two fixtures. In this qualifying cycle, only two sides will progress from the groups — the first placed, automatically; and the second place, through the playoffs — so if the Lions are to have any hopes of qualifying for the World Cup proper, performances will need to be improved. It is somewhat comforting to know that the Lions have the ability to grind out a result against very good opponents — such as Dēmos — but the disaster against the United States Of Alpha doesn't bode well for the squad as they prepare to face Whispinia at the DT Centre in Portland, followed by an away trip to Karmosora in match-days three and four.

Expected Line-up against Whispinia
A. Bullvale — W. Cross — E. Cromwell — K. Foster — D. Krol — N. Cunningham — E. Cunningham (C) — J. Kealoha — A. Adeyemi — B. Brunson — M. Johnson

Expected Line-up against Karmosora

Bees split opening rounds, but not hitting panic button
Scott McCrae
The Daily Mail Chief Soccer Writer

The Commonwealth of Baker Park National Team have made it a bit of usual practice to get off to uneven starts in World Cup Qualifying, and the beginning of the 100th cycle is no exception as they dropped points in their first away fixture after a dominant home opener.

Baptism of Fire participants Tristan de Cunha surprised BP on matchday 2 with a 2-0 win, a definite disappointment for the Gold & Black following their 6-2 romp against Valladares at Collins Park just four days earlier; even though the Bees are no longer a major power in the sport the win in
Lambert's Town was treated as a national holiday among the population of the tiny island nation.

The upcoming international doubleheader will provide an opportunity for BP to get back on track as they welcome Elmyia to the CONAGCO Stadium in Shirley on MD 3 before traveling to joint Group 16 leaders Riandera to face the BOF quarterfinalists. Elmyia and Baker Park met during the group stage of the Cocobo Trophy in Eagles Cup 16, as the Bees took 4 points out of six as they advanced to the semi-final stage of that competition.

The opening matches of this qualifying tournament threw up several surprising results across the record 30 groups of 9 nations each, as other highly ranked sides were held to unexpected draws or suffered shock defeats.

As Snestar prepares itself for the third and fourth matchdays, against Very Totally Free and Grand Exultia, concerns within Snestaryan media have been raised about Davide Scognamiglio’s conditions after his injury in Audioslavia - Snestar. The Snestaryan Football Federation has declared that the Snestaryan midfielder only suffered a light concussion, and will be able to return to the pitch in a few matches.

Meet (some of) the Team

Federico Calvaresi
Age: 26
Current club: Arentas
The anchor of the national team, Federico Calvaresi had distinguished himself among other Snestaryan goalkeepers due to his ability to be on the ball (figuratively and literally) at all times. He was able to guide Arentas to promotion in the 23-24 season, and stuck with the small club and brought it all the way to 7th place, despite having received offers from big clubs such as Lavenya and Venistalya throughout the season. His loyalty paid off: in fact, he was given captaincy of both Arentas and the national team, showing he can be trusted with leading even the most divided of squads.

Riccardo Cavaliere
Age: 24
Current club: Lavenya
Through careful training and lots of resilience, Riccardo Cavaliere was able to earn himself a spot as one of the starters of Lavenya, one of the most prestigious and historically dominating clubs in Snestar. His play style is usually very offensive, relying on his strength to steal the ball and join the attack when necessary. After helping Lavenya win the 2024 Snestaryan Cup against Fraliso by scoring a brace in extra time and gaining an immense amount of fame, Riccardo has become subject to idolatry by many Snestaryan women. However, his heart is already bound to another.

Martin de Roux
Age: 26
Current club: Fraliso
Martin de Roux had always been considered a “failed talent” by the Snestaryan media. In his youth years, he wasn’t able to improve much, apart from playing a few matches with mid-table clubs such as Rivya and Grenna. In recent years, though, he’s been growing immensely, so much that he has found his way to the Starting XI of Fraliso and even started as the captain in the Snestaryan Cup final against Lavenya. Camilla Arentas now starts him in most of the national team’s matches, knowing he has become a solid player who can be very versatile when needed.

Mattia Castelletti
Age: 18
Current club: Lavenya
One of the Snestaryan U-21 youth team’s key players, Mattia Castelletti was a surprise pick for the national team. Despite not playing in a major club in the Snestaryan Division Alpha, Camilla Arentas recognized his talent and chose to bring him under her roof to make him “experience the thrill of the national team,” in her own words. So far, Mattia Castelletti has started in two of the five matches and has also made an incredible assist, proving to Snestar that he has the potential to make it big.

Elisa Baldriga
Age: 21
Current club: Arentas (Women)
Despite not actually being part of the national team for the Baptism of Fire, Elisa Baldriga would have been one of Camilla Arentas’ first picks for the squad. Due to some shenanigans regarding the Snestaryan Football Federation, she wasn’t able to participate in the competition. This has upset a lot of football fans, since she has become one of the best female players in the entire country, earning herself the fame at such a young age. In Merilva, home to AS E.M. Arentas, she had become a club legend after scoring the winning goal in the Libertas Cup against the men’s Dandelicha Continental, forever cementing her name in the first ever victory of a women's club in the cup.

Tero Sjölund
Age: 25
Current club: Gridorya
Born from immigrants living in the small coastal town of Rovina Sole, Tero Sjölund is a simple man with simple goals: put the ball into the net. He may not be the brightest of the bunch, nor the most eloquent, but he excels at doing the only thing he’s programmed for. His time at Gridorya hasn’t been the most profitable in terms of G/A, but Tero never fails to deliver consistency.

Arminia Cremisi
Age: 19
Current club: Bolenya (Women)
Due to her connections with Camilla Carminya Cremisi, the former President of the Republic, Arminia had always been mocked by Snestaryan media for being a “mommy’s girl” and only playing in the Women’s Division Alpha (the top division in Snestaryan women’s football) because of her aunt’s importance in politics. Due to this, Arminia had always been caught in an unhealthy balance, alternating between school, training for her club Bolenya, and fending off the journalists. However, her debut in the national team seemed to have proven the media wrong: will Arminia be able to match her first performance in the following qualification rounds?

Postby Aleirave » Tue Oct 28, 2025 1:32 pm

What is Aleirave Anyway?
Bhumi Matawis Empire 2-1 Aleirave
Aleirave 4-2 Greater Portugaliza

"Why the long face, Piheve?" Tatyana Yusenika asked her teammate just before the match against Greater Portugaliza.
"Hm, I wonder why, maybe it has to do with all of... this."

There was a lot for Piheve to be a little bit upset about before this match. Least of his concerns was the first match against the Bhumi Matawis Empire. Okay, so the Seagulls took a bad loss away from home to one of the four(!) BoF teams in this group. On any other day, this result would rock their campaign for at least the entire first half, as the doubt would set back in about whether they were ever destined to qualify... however, this was the least of his concerns this time around. Yeah, the loss wasn't ideal, and I don't think anyone would be particularly happy after that, but they were a strong team and they earned it. There were lots of places to make up points in the rest of the cycle, that wasn't the problem.

No, instead Piheve gestured towards the stadium surrounding them when he made his comment. "It's all so... artificial. You and I both know what it's like to play football in Aleirave. It's unlike anywhere else in the multiverse, where we can just let our gameplay happen, and anything else all the other teams worry about just washes away. But this? What even is this?"

By no means was Reko'uho Fekelu Stadium disappointing. While it may've beed a bit small by the modern standards of the multiverse's international teams, let's face it, everything related to Aleirave was going to end up being a little bit on the smaller side. It was shiny and brand-new, having never even seen a ball kicked in it before that day, and the seats were far more comfortable than any comparable stadia on the mainland (our apologies to the stadium in Asheton, but those seats have a bit of a reputation). No, instead Piheve's objections lay in the fact that the place was too much.

This was not an Aleiravan stadium built for Aleiravans, far from it: it was built out of this manufactured necessity that the Seagulls not come back to Lahaira, which was questionable at best and just an excuse to do whatever this was at worst. None of these fans were Aleiravan, since everyone in the country apart from Haulafo, the team, Katya, and Falena (the latter two now trapped here so the story wouldn't get out) was being left out of the loop that there was even an Aleiravan team at all this cycle (an insane secret to keep, but one Haulafo saw as well worth it considering the sheer nuclear levels of embarrassment after the 1-7 crashout in Squornshelous. All of these fans lining the seats were Portugalizan, and not a single chant for the Seagulls would be heard.

Around the stadium, New Alikonora was an "Aleiravan city" that was neither in Aleirave nor populated by Aleiravans. Even though Te'ufole was the smallest of the Kia'u Islands, it was still far larger than Aleirave itself, with vast unexplored stretches of forest nobody had been in for at least a century. This wasn't the small island where everyone knows everyone, this was a heartless nowhere where everyone was cold and distant. On the one hand, there were mainlanders working on constructing the city, and the supposed archaeologists popping by "soon", and on the other were the visiting fans, who you'd get to meet for maybe a weekend at most, just there to cheer against you.

Whatever Aleirave was, New Alikonora was not it. Officially, it was classed as a customs-free Special Economic Zone, one that was simultaneously Eshian, Aleiravan, everybody's, and nobody's. To this team, however, it was a hell in Anaia that they were stuck in for the next six months, being treated like entertainment for all those who bothered swinging by to this artificial concrete nightmare on the edge of nowhere.

"I know what you mean Piheve, believe me I really do..." Katya responded, "but listen, we're stuck here, whether we like it or not. There's only one thing we can do to get us out of here, and that is to play the best we can. Maybe if we get back to the World Cup and do well, we can be let back onto the island and actually live our normal lives again. Just maybe, we can see our families for Christmas... but for now, we just have to play with what we've got. It may not be home, but it's home to us now. We have to make of it what we can."

While this didn't do much to make him feel any better, the win that followed finally made him feel like himself again. His gameplay wasn't the best, allowing Isaltino Di David to get past him and score one of the two Portugalizan goals on the night, but it was more than made up for by a classic Seagull-ball performance from the Islanders, who put 4 past the Navigators to get them their first 3 points in this year's qualifying. Next up, they were off to Sel Appa, which was at least a place that felt like a place rather than whatever the heck this was, before welcoming South Kerala to New Alikonora.

"Great work out there getting that win..." Kenny told the team, "this is what we need to play like for the rest of this cycle. We're first seeds this year, and that means we can get back to the World Cup... it's all down to our consistency now. You've got this."
All my posts are IC unless I either explicitly say so or they're on NSG.

Sidenote, if I'm posting on NSG, DM me to make sure if I'm alright. Something's probably gone wrong for me.

This wasn't ideal.

A 3-1 loss to a team ranked 377th in the multiverse was certainly not how Handrix Casfo wanted to open his WC 100 qualifying campaign. It had been away, yes, and The Pit was a formidable ground, but it shattered the image of an ascending Saterun. It had been a little while since the players had all gotten together for an international tournament, and the SFF's decision not to play any pre-World Cup friendlies was coming back to bite them. But Handrix couldn't hang his head too low. After all, it was only the first game of an 18-match qualifying schedule. A week later, Saterun managed to drag out a 1-0 win over Orcuo, which was technically a positive. It sat them somewhat midtable after two matchdays, but what was the most concerning was that this had initially looked to be a relatively gentle start to qualifying. The past two weeks had quickly broken the illusion, however.

Handrix had managed for long enough now to know that the crucial part was his reaction. The next qualifying window could be very helpful. If they managed to get a win at Electrum and other matches went their way, they could still be sitting in a good position with their bye already past. Currently Riandera and Ethane sat atop the group table with 6 points, but Handrix believed his Claws could catch them. It was all a matter of how they responded. Baker Park, their assumed qualification rivals, had also had a rocky start to qualification. These first two matchdays had blown the group wide open, but Handrix was hoping that, over a long qualification schedule, the experience of more established nations would show through. However, the Claws had to capitalize fast. If they could pick themselves up and quickly push on, they could be out of reach by the halfway point. Of course, this was all theoretical, but Handrix saw the potential. He just needed to navigate the waters and pull it off.

That would begin, unfortunately, with Handrix's least favorite thing: squad rotation. Not that he didn't like resting players, but that he'd seen the effects of ego and pride and what they could do if a squad was too hastily rotated. He knew he had a good group of guys on the team, but he needed to be careful. For one, though, he'd be starting Anders VandeLlen in the next game. The Tsear midfielder hadn't played yet, but Handrix knew he was a secret weapon just waiting to be unlocked. Adrian Schlimme and Ruben De Santiago would also likely make appearances, though probably from the bench. In all of this, Handrix had to make sure he kept his signature style of play. It was what had gotten them to the last World Cup, and he didn't want to scrap it after two bad games.

As he sat in his Daxler office, staring at a tactics board, he heard a knock. He looked up, and saw Maksymillian Bates standing outside. He quickly pushed aside the board and gestured for the striker to come in. Casfo had a pretty good relationship with most of the players, and Bates was a leader on the team, so they knew each other fairly well. Handrix welcomed him in, but he barely managed to finish before Maksymillian started. "Look, gaffer, these first two games have got me thinking. We've struggled to consistently score, and we need to change things up." This was interesting. Usually, Maksymillian wasn't the most involved when it came to tactics. He just played where and how his manager wanted him too.

"I think this is the cycle where you start rotating in Adrian." There it was. This had been something that had been discussed several times by the backroom staff as WCQ approached. Bates was 33, and not getting any younger. His physical dominance and shooting made him a perfect compliment to Caesar Ibañez, but eventually his time would run out. Adrian was younger, faster, and, at this point, just as good as Maksymillian. In short, Handrix knew what Maksymillian was saying was true.

"We've been talking a lot about that before and during this campaign." Handrix noticed Maksymillian's relaxation after learning that the staff were also considering this. "You're still a very good player, and work well with Caesar, but we are going to start to bring on and start Adrian more this cycle. We want to make sure he can develop through the final process of being an elite striker." They talked for a few more minutes, and decided on a rough timeline in order to ease Adrian into the squad. He would come on as a substitute in the next game against Electrum, and likely be starting by the halfway point of the campaign. As Bates walked out of the door, Handrix felt a sense of relief. He knew this was a conversation that was going to happen at some point, but it made it so much easier that the player himself had brought it up. Maybe, this qualification cycle would be smoother than first thought. Sighing as he did it, Handrix dragged his team board back onto his desk.

“And down the stretch they come in the Eglantine Stakes!”

“Claperleux is at the point! Veine Nocturne is second but fading! Here comes Roche Lapis Lazuli charging ahead, Tonnerre Azure at her heels! Roche Lapis Lazuli passes Veine Nocturne! Does she have anything for Claperleux?!”

Cut to the massive crowd erupting, shouting, pointing, pumping fists.

ANNOUNCER (V.O.):
“Claperleux pushes! Claperleux won’t be caught! Claperleux wins the Eglantine Stakes!”

Zoom in on Claperleux’s face, steam curling from its nostrils, the purple silks gleaming.

ON SCREEN TEXT:
This Year

The view is on a large white gate. Through the gate you can see a race track. A heavily bundled man walks across the screen to unlock and pull the gate open. From the side a convoy of trucks in white and purple slowly start to drive into the facility.

ON SCREEN TEXT:
Seaborn Crossing
Sliema

Cut to a large group of men and women disembarking from their vehicles, pulling out tools and equipment. They talk and murmur among the sounds of drills and hammers.

The gate on a horse trailer is thrown open and an agitated chestnut stallion is forcefully pulled off. A trainer cries out “Easy, easy,” partially to the handlers and partially to the horse.

ÉTIENNE CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE CEO (V.O.)
“Kan Roue is horse racing in the Dominion.”

More equipment is unloaded from trucks, all in coordinated purple and white, with a notable KR logo. Everything is clean and expensive.

ÉTIENNE CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE CEO (V.O.)
“The Cahufe-l’Eaue family are the first family of the sport. I’m very fortunate to have grown up in horse racing. My siblings and I, my cousins and extended family as well, we have a responsibility to succeed, and to continue to win.”

Cut to an interview. A man with a sharp face, salt-and-pepper hair, and thick-rimmed glasses sits in front of a dark background.

ÉTIENNE CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE CEO
“My name is Étienne Cahufe-l’Eaue, I am the Chief Executive Officer for Kan Roue Stables. Kan Roue and the Cahufe-l’Eaue family have raced thoroughbreds for over 150 years.”

We see Étienne in the paddock at Seaborn Crossing, arms crossed in a purple half-zip, chatting with a Kan Roue staffer holding an insulated cup.

DR. LAOUIC LE VISAGE, RACING HISTORIAN (V.O.)
“In modern horse racing, there are a “Big Seven” stables, the most successful of the many horse racing stables across the Dominion. Kan Roue is the most historically successful.”

A man similar in look to Étienne, just thicker and hairier is watching with awe as their horse is led into the paddock.

KONAN CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE DIRECTOR
“Look at him. Just… look at him!”

Cut to the man being interviewed in front of a dark background.

KONAN CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE DIRECTOR
“Big… Seven? You said Big Seven?”

He chuckles.

“I don’t see anyone else at our height.”

Kan Roue staffers continue their work, but we start seeing other teams with other horses populating the paddock area.

DR. LAOUIC LE VISAGE, RACING HISTORIAN (V.O.)
“There’s Kan Roue, in purple with three white stripes on their sleeves.”

Footage cuts to each stable’s workers as they prepare.

“Talbourdet is a historical powerhouse, though they’ve had struggles as of late.”

A trainer in a duck egg blue jacket drops a styrofoam cup of coffee on the concrete floor. She freezes, looks up at the ceiling and sighs.

“Vallon Gautier emphasizes data and math in every aspect, from breeding to strategy.”

Two men in black and green argue over a laptop while a horse munches on hay behind them.

“Asterus are always on the hunt for the next hire to get ahead.”

A man in a suit with red and gold tie leans in and chats with a Kan Roue staffer in a corner.

“De Serent was recently purchased by a billionaire industrialist and a former Kan Roue bloodline manager looking to strike out.”

An older gentleman in a dark suit and a tan and fit younger man chat in a hospitality trailer with a very tired-looking trainer in blue and orange.

“Courant Marin wants to win at any cost, and they often do.”

A groom in dark blue with a gold star pattern brushes a smoky cream stallion, before another Courant Marin employee rushes onto screen, blocking the camera. “Hey, hey, hey! Hey!” he cries out.

“And Renardiere has embraced social media like no one else.”

Cut to a social media reel, with an excited young blonde woman speaking. “Hey guys, we’re here in Sliema for the first Big Ten race of the year! Get hyped!”

“And then there’s the scores of other stables that want a change to seize the crown for themselves.”

A man with wild white hair and a dark tan saunters up to Étienne Cahufe-l’Eaue in the paddock, followed closely by a concerned looking woman holding a clipboard tight to her chest. The man wears a jacket with “Veritable Racing Stables” printed in large type.

“Hey there, Étienne! Good to see you.” The man, identified as PHELIPPE CAUBERE, VERITABLE CEO, claps Étienne on the shoulder. Étienne, forced smile on his face, shakes Phelippe’s hand.

“Hey, thanks for setting up this documentary thing,” Phelippe says, turning and gesturing broadly towards the camera. He turns fully and addresses the cameras. “Make sure you come by hospitality and get some vox pop, huh?”

Footage cuts to flags snapping violently against the gray sky.

HUON DE SAINT-GUIREC, TRACK SUPERINTENDENT (V.O.)
“The Prix de l'Aube is the opener of the Major Ten races. It’s February, it’s chilly, the wind off the Bay of Trespasses is salty, unpredictable, and harsh.”

Horses are seen on the grass of Seaborn Crossing. The wind blows their manes and tails. A trainer at the rail squints and puts his hand up to block the wind.

PIUS COIPEL, JOCKEY (V.O.)
“Seaborn Crossing is a lovely place to race…in the summer.”

A plump older gentleman, with thin hair and wrinkled face is interviewed. He moves his hands around to demonstrate his points.

LISTIEN BOURSEL, PLAGE DE MOUSSE OWNER
“If the wind’s really blowing, you’ll want to use the other horses as windbreaks. Rail early, outside on the backstretch, then rail again at the wire.”

We see Kan Roue’s horse and jockey trotting confidently on the turf.

CATERINA CINELU, BLOODLINE ANALYST (V.O.)
“Kan Roue’s challenger this year is Magia Record.”

As Caterina describes Magia Record’s bloodline a montage of historical footage and news and magazine headlines are shown.

“Magia Record’s sire is Magia Pacem, an Eglantine Stakes champion. His dam is Elfriede, an Ecliptique champion. Magia Pacem’s sire was Malum Magia, a two-time Prix de Terina champion, Elfriede’s sire was Poil de Carotte, himself an Eglantine Stakes champion. Poil de Carotte’s dam was Kyrrytuen, who herself won the Prix de l'Aube.”

Caterina is shown being interviewed. She looks almost overwhelmed.

CATERINA CINELU, BLOODLINE ANALYST
“Just a remarkable bloodline.”

A nervous laugh.

“The only place to go is down, really.”

On track, Magia Record prances, nostrils flared, neck arched. Konan and Étienne watch from the rail.

KONAN CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE DIRECTOR
“He knows when the camera is on him. He loves it. He loves it!”

Konan excitedly grabs his brother’s arm and shakes him a bit. Even Étienne has to smile.

Cut to the Renardiere influencer filming Magia Record. “There’s the hype beast himself!”

JEAN-DENIS DE RÉAUMUR, TRANSFER MARKET REPORTER
“Magia Record won the Cyrene Futurity last year and Kan Roue immediately purchased him. The terms of his sale aren’t public, but Magia Record may be one of the most expensive horses ever purchased in the Dominion.”

Étienne Cahufe-l’Eaue is shown being interviewed. His face is placid.

ÉTIENNE CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE CEO
“I have no comment.”

JEAN-DENIS DE RÉAUMUR, TRANSFER MARKET REPORTER
“Kan Roue has been sitting on Magia Record for a year now. They believe in their heart of hearts that the Prix de l’Aube is going to go down in history as just the first success of Magia Record’s career.”

LISTIEN BOURSEL, PLAGE DE MOUSSE FARM OWNER
“Magia Record is perfect. On paper.”

TRISTANIG LE VERGER, KAN ROUE TRAINER
“He’s never been tested. Some horses are prodigies. Some aren’t.”

He looks down and scratches his forehead.

“Prix de l’Aube is a big ask.” He looks back at the camera and shrugs.

ON SCREEN TEXT:
Race Day

A bugler steps up to a microphone on a podium and plays “First Call”. The crowd responds with a large cheer.

The horses and jockeys start to be led out on the Seaborn Crossing turf.

Magia Record rears up and whinnies in his stall, fighting against the lead.

Tristanig stands back, looking concerned. In the foreground, Konan laughs with a dignitary.

Twelve horses enter the gate. Magia Record is the last, still making a fuss.

Prix de l'Aube Post Draw
Post	Horse (Stable)
1 Roche Lapis Lazuli (Renardiere)
2 Lanterne Rêve (Courant Marin)
3 Stardust Song (Asterus)
4 Downtown Boy (Talbourdet)
5 All Visa Man (du Jerzual)
6 Ran O Right (Locmariaquer)
7 Livre et Disque (Lien Double)
8 Magia Record (Kan Roue)
9 Pixelate (Veritable)
10 Thunderfrost (de Serent)
11 Starship Music (Vallon Gautier)
12 Chimérique (Peyrilhe)

The gates slam open and the Prix de l'Aube begins. Roche Lapis Lazuli snaps forward. Magia Record... does not. A half beat hesitation.

COMMENTATOR (V.O.)
"A poor start for Magia Record!"

From the outside Chimérique immediately slingshots diagonally inward, desperate for shelter from the wind. Pixelate, looking to get away from the pack veers outward. The two horses almost clip legs.

In front of the rest of the pack, Downtown Boy immediately boat anchors and slams the breaks on half the field. Ran O Right is boxed in behind him and has no choice to idle. And behind him is Magia Record, pistons firing with nowhere to go.

TRISTANIG LE VERGER, KAN ROUE TRAINER
"Settle him down, don't fight him..."

At the front of the pack Lanterne Rêve pushes ahead recklessly. Roche Lapis Lazuli and Stardust Song hold back within shouting distance. Chimérique and Pixelate fight for space behind them.

Thunderfrost streaks by a sinking All Visa Man, several lengths wide of a frustrated looking Magia Record, bobbing his head as his nose is practically tickled by Ran O Right's tail.

LISTIEN BOURSEL, PLAGE DE MOUSSE FARM OWNER
"It's easy if you can start first, run the rail, and never see another horse. Racing in traffic is where the good horses become the great ones."

The horses ripple through the first and second turn as a gust of wind strikes the pack like a breaking sheet of glass.

The race fans out. Lanterne Rêve stays in front burning coal as fast as it can be shoveled. Roche Lapis Lazuli and Stardust Song calmly stalk the leader. Chimérique and Pixelate cling to this small lead pack. The next six horses, led currently by Livre et Disque, make up a helpless scrum, while All Visa Man trails the field but isn't out of touch yet.

Goulwenig Vauquier sitting on Magia Record's back wildly scans the field, in front and behind him looking for any gap. He doesn't see one.

Magia Record, however, for the briefest of moments, does. As Thunderfrost effortlessly drifts forward a thin window opens between Livre et Disque and Ran O Right. Magia Record lunges for it, desperately.

COMMENTATOR (V.O.)
"Oh! Magia Record is forcing the issue!"

The window immediately shuts. Vauquier yanks Magia Record back to avoid clipping heels with Livre et Disque, and his rhythm is completely ruined.

KONAN CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE DIRECTOR
"Damn it!"

As Magia Record falls back it scrambles the second pack. Downtown Boy has spent the last 1000 meters getting his hooves back under him, and an unworried Morgann Jazier knows just what to do. He surges forward, ears pinned, up to sixth place.

GEOFFROY LOZEC, RETIRED JOCKEY
"First you need to know your horse. Then you need to know the other horses. Then you need to know the track. And you need to calculate all of this in the heat of the race. Great jockeys can make something out of nothing just by making better decisions than everyone else."

In the third and fourth corner, Chimérique checks out of the lead group and starts to drop like a stone, worn from racing Pixelate. Roche Lapis Lazuli turns on the jets and leaves Stardust Song, who clearly doesn't have another gear to switch into.

Courant Marin had clearly hoped that Lanterne Rêve could bully the field into running his race and coast to victory. What they had not counted on was Roche Lapis Lazuli's seemingly endless reserves. She blasts past Lanterne Rêve and is seemingly still accelerating when she hits the finish line.

The Renardiere paddock goes wild with joy. At least one staffer rips off his polo shirt and waves it over his head. This moment immediately goes viral.

Magia Record uses what he can to try and finish strongly. He just gets past unfancied Downtown Boy, but can't close with Thunderfrost.

Tristanig le Vergier leans forward, resting his head on the rail, his hands on his knees. He puffs up his cheeks and lets out a long breath. A fellow Kan Roue staffer pats him on the back.

In the interview room, Étienne Cahufe-l'Eaue looks uncomfortable.

ÉTIENNE CAHUFE-L’EAUE, KAN ROUE CEO
"It's a rough start to the Major Ten campaign. But it's just the start."

He nods slightly as his eyes dart slightly down and right and then back.

"It'll be fine."

Founder’s Way Training Pitch, before the trip to Ranoria

The ball floats in, and Sjoberg’s head meets it with a *whump*, sending it flying into the practice net, Kame Wuijin diving too late to stop it.

Beneath the new first-choice striker his benched counterpart Darius Erikkson falls with a thud to the pitch, letting out an “oof!” As Kunio’s voice rings out over the training ground with new instructions and drills, Sjolund reaches down, helping his teammate up.

“You alright?”

A pause, before Erikkson shrugs off the penta-trick hero. “Yeah, fine.”

Through his blue eyes, Sjoberg observes the slightly younger man’s body language before speaking.

“You all should be able to tell that me and the gaffer don’t get on too well, right? But, I don’t want to be on the wrong foot with you guys. I want to be able to stick around after he’s gone and a new boss is in charge, and that wouldn’t do if everyone in the locker room hates me.”

Erikkson slowly nods.

“Fine. Just… give it some time, ok?”

Sung’s voice inches over to them from a distance.

“You two! Get over here, we’re going over tactics for this week!”

A full rotation of more essential positions to give those players some game time, save the strike which is still occupied by Sjoberg to give him as much time as possible to fit in with all of his teammates. Backline remains unchanged, but Blake comes on for Morissey at the pivot, Bergmeier for Jin at 10, and Haggstrom for Hijikata at right wing mid. Stewartika goes to Ranoria confident that they can try to put pressure on the group leaders Kelssek as the qualifiers continue apace, soon.

“Hey, did you hear the news?”

“Hear what news?”

“The Queen’s coming with us.”

“The what now?”

The Queen’s coming with us!

“Is that some kind of secret slogan?”

“No, I mean, like, the Queen is coming with us! She’s gonna be around for the qualifiers, like at our camp and our games and everything. It’s all over the news.”

“Sounds like a load of crap to me. Why would Queen Eirian possibly follow us around the world?”

No one really knew why. Not even the insider journalists that follow House Protheroe who normally insist that they know everything. But it was all over the news since 5:00am. Was it even a real story, or just a rumour? The FA hadn’t announced anything officially and none of the coaching staff seemed to know, although no one had seen Jack Blethyn yet. Some players thought it was real, others thought it was made up. James Orwell insisted that it must have something to do with keeping an eye on the Krytenia situation, but everyone else thought that was silly. What would the Queen of Warkus following the nation’s football team around (a team that isn’t even playing Krytenia, mind you) have to do with Krytenia?

But when Blethyn came out to the field to speak to everyone, it turned out that the tamest possible explanation was the right one: the story’s real and the royal household has provided no particular reason beyond “Queen Eirian would be delighted to accompany the national squad to support our nation’s sporting endeavours in the World Cup Qualifiers”.

Blethyn made it known that he’s not particularly keen on the idea of having a super VIP guest to accommodate at training sessions and matches, but it’s not his call. Apparently she’ll be around for some of the training sessions and all of the matches, but relatively little has been planned out. Some of the squad’s staff have already cooked up some activities with her staff, things like private interviews with the coaches, a ‘history of the national team’ tour showcasing some of the old photos and kits they’ve taken with them to commemorate the 100th World Cup, photo opportunities, times when she can observe training and so on. Blethyn really did try to pushback against the proposal, but the only thing he was able to accomplish was cooling the FA down on the idea of giving everyone a 30 page royal etiquette guide. Instead, the FA and him produced their own informal rules of engagement:

Rule 1. Focus on the team’s objectives. Don’t get distracted or try to schmooze with the Queen or her security detail. In other words, don’t go out of your way to do anything you haven’t been asked to do. Enjoy the honour, if that’s your thing, but remember that you’re here to play football.

Rule 2. Be polite. She is the Queen, after all. Don’t be overly familiar, don’t talk about politics or politically charged historical events and don’t swear or anything like that.

Rule 3. If your coaches ask you to do something in relation to her, either do it or politely explain why you wouldn’t be comfortable doing it (if you have some political or religious objection to talking to her or taking a photo together or whatever).

Blethyn then laid out the fourth rule, or what he called the ‘Llewelyn rule’, bluntly stating “Don’t flirt with the bloody Queen.” Everyone had a laugh, but Blethyn spent the rest of the day anxiously thinking about all the possible ways this last minute decision could go horribly wrong.
