Brooklyn Beck (S7:E2)

Postby Drawkland » Thu Oct 16, 2025 9:40 am

"The Graduation Evasion"

The operation was as covert as could be. Brooklyn Beck arrived at a hotel near Cavsar University’s campus in the wee hours of the morning. She was pretty familiar with that particular hotel, as it was the same one Sadeg State’s football team would use for NSCF away games against Cavsar. The next day, Brooklyn walked the short distance to campus and met Scott Linhart at the athletic department offices.

“Welcome back to Cavsar,” Linhart smiled warmly when Brooklyn stepped into the lobby. It was the weekend right after finals week, so campus was mostly deserted. This played into their favor. They didn’t want word about this getting out too quickly.

“Thanks.” Brooklyn returned the smile, a little awkwardly. “I’m glad to be here, I think.”

“I understand this was a hard decision to make.” Linhart dipped his head in concession. “I’m incredibly proud of you for doing it, though. I think this will be mutually beneficial for us. Football greatness is in our grasp!”

“Of course.” Brooklyn grinned. She started to feel her stomach churn. Was she really making the right decision? It wasn’t technically too late to pull out … but it was pretty close. She reminded herself that her football career was essentially about to be over anyway. Why bother worrying about her reputation there?

“Alright, come along, I’ll give you a quick tour of the football facility so you’re not disoriented on Monday. I know you saw some of it during your recruiting campus tour, but that was years ago. Freshening the memory can’t hurt.” Linhart motioned for Brooklyn to follow him. As they walked the path to the football training facility, he spoke back up. “So I checked our registration system and it looked like you’re in there. I trust everything went smoothly in that process?”

“Yup.” Brooklyn nodded, absentmindedly looking at the buildings of Cavsar’s campus. The striking red brick and white stone aesthetic could be seen throughout, quite a difference from Sadeg State’s where most buildings were classic old stone or hypermodern construction. “I applied for the MBA program and registered for the only two classes they were offering in the summer for incoming students. I think I got my account login information this week, I just haven’t tried it out yet.”

“Good, good.” Linhart chuckled. “I trust you’ll be keeping up with your studies?”

“Yes sir. These online classes won’t know what hit them!” Brooklyn gave a slight dry chuckle of her own. She wasn’t really sure if she could joke around with Coach Linhart yet. She also had no intention of paying attention to those courses, because she had no intention of remaining a Cavsar student once this summer was over. She didn’t ever expect to try for an MBA anyway, so having a dark spot on her transcript wouldn’t really make a difference for her.

Linhart quickly showed the practice fields, athlete cafeteria, and other facilities to Brooklyn before looping back to the athletic offices adjacent to Roy Memorial Stadium. He led Brooklyn to his office on the third floor, a corner office with a large waiting area.

“Wow, this is a big office,” Brooklyn commented offhand as the pair walked through the door.

“I just moved in last year!” Linhart explained excitedly. “The football coaching department used to be on the second floor, but after winning the NSCF title the AD was overjoyed and decided to upgrade the entire football staff’s offices, including my own.”

“I guess they treat you like royalty around here, huh?” Brooklyn sat down across from Linhart’s desk.

“I suppose so,” Linhart laughed. “Not that I’m growing complacent or anything. There’s still much work to do. Can’t let the naysayers think that Cavsar is just a one-cycle wonder like they have the last few times we put together deep runs. That’s why I wanted to make this happen, Brooklyn. I love Jaxtyn Mynatt, he’s a fiery competitor, but he doesn’t have the physical skills to lead Cavsar to another deep NSCF run. Maybe next year, but not right now.”

“Right.” Brooklyn nodded, lightly scanning the room. “So, do I need to sign anything?”

“Well, I tried to pull some strings, but I wasn’t able to swing a scholarship for you since this is just a summer semester.” Linhart peered earnestly through his glasses at Brooklyn. “I hope that cost won’t be an issue for you. If not, I can figure-”

“Oh that’s fine,” Brooklyn interrupted. “The tuition for a couple of online courses isn’t that bad. I have enough saved up from my NIL deals.”

“Wonderful. Yes, for all intents and purposes, you’re considered a walk-on athlete for this semester, so there’s no binding agreement to be signed.” Linhart paused, then snapped as his train of thought reconfigured. “Speaking of NIL, I think we might be able to work something out. Obviously the clandestine nature of all this means we couldn’t get something ready in advance, but when we start winning games, the local companies will start lining up to get you into their ads.”

“That’ll give me something to do outside of practice, at least.” Brooklyn chuckled. “I’m not sure how much fun there is to be had in town.”

“Cavsar is full of surprises.” Linhart winked. “Don’t count us out yet!”

The rest of the weekend basically flew by. Brooklyn only spent one night in the hotel, because once her meeting with Linhart was done, she met a couple Cavsar baseball players to figure out her living arrangements for the summer. Julian Gallagher had made good on his word – he called a bunch of different Cavsar student-athletes to see if any of them had open beds in the summer. Luckily he called Paul Porter, a baseball player who’d actually met Brooklyn briefly during the Eight Nations Shield with the Base Corps. Porter was willing to help out, and found some female baseball teammates with an open bedroom thanks to a roommate who finished their senior finals and immediately left town due to a job offer in Hellenmack.

Brooklyn spent the rest of the weekend acquainting herself with her new short-term roommates and studying through the playbooks which Linhart gave to her at the end of their visit together. Soon enough, day one of training camp arrived, and Brooklyn arrived at the football team facility without much fanfare. This was by design. Any time a media member was present for part of camp, Brooklyn was elsewhere. Watching film, studying the playbook, or working out privately, it didn’t matter, she was kept out of sight.

Naturally, people at Sadeg State noticed when she didn’t arrive for their first day of camp. The first day went without a hitch, they expected she’d return on the second day and be reprimanded for a late arrival. It wasn’t the first or last time a student would take a quick trip off campus in the days between finals week and NSCF training camp and experience travel delays. Once day two came by with no sign or word from Brooklyn in Sadeg, the alarm bells went up.

Brooklyn was tucked away in the film study room poring over an offensive package when her phone buzzed. She looked at the screen and saw it was coming from Trace Hayes. She felt an immediate pang of adrenaline. For a moment she considered letting the call go to voicemail, but she figured it would only be a matter of time until they’d call her emergency contact, which was her home phone. That presented a risk of her dad answering the phone and the entire charade blowing up. She wasn’t much of an actress, but she’d have to pull out a great performance here.

“Hello?” Brooklyn finally answered the call, trying to sound a little distant or dazed.

“Hello, Ms. Beck.” Trace Hayes spoke out tersely on the other end. The now second-year head coach at Sadeg had been nice and amicable throughout his early tenure. This was a darker tone that Brooklyn had never heard before. “I’m calling to see where you are right now. Training camp started yesterday and you’ve yet to show up.”

“Um, training camp?” Brooklyn put a little valley girl pitch into her voice. “I thought I couldn’t be there. DOCA suspended me and everything.”

“Wh- DOCA-” Hayes sputtered. “Brooklyn, this is for the NSCF. We had an entire discussion about how that suspension couldn’t possibly apply and - now that I think of it, didn’t you serve your suspension in baseball season anyway?”

“Oh … shit!” Brooklyn said with mock panic. “Oh my God coach, I’m so sorry! That totally slipped my mind! I thought I wouldn’t be allowed at training camp because of the suspension … so I booked this cruise to celebrate finishing my finals … my flight back doesn’t come in until Friday night so I can be there for commencement.”

“This is a very serious issue, Brooklyn! We’ve got to hit the ground running in this season, new format, lots of planning and work to do!” Hayes groaned. “Surely you can move your flight up? Leave a little sooner?”

“I’m on a cruise, Coach.” Brooklyn put as much worry into her voice as she could. “I’m in the middle of the freaking ocean! The day we get back to shore is the same day as my flight back to Sadeg. There’s no way I’ll make it back in time for camp this week!”

“I see.” Hayes replied coldly. “I hate to do this, but you will be reprimanded for this, Ms. Beck. Just because you’re a graduated senior and the starting quarterback doesn’t mean you have free reign to pull a stunt like this.”

“It was an accident, Coach, honestly!” Brooklyn pleaded. She did feel bad about the whole thing, but it was a little late for that.”

“I’ve half a mind to start giving Harper reps as QB1 in practice. I’m deeply disappointed in you.”

“Go ahead,” Brooklyn replied sullenly, though she was glad Hayes was willing to do that soon. She didn’t want Sadeg State to completely turn into a dumpster fire, so if Reed Harper got more reps in practice that would only be a good thing. “I’m really sorry, Coach. I feel like such a moron.”

“Well, you can make up for it by working extra hard next week.” Hayes said, though his voice was still flatly upset. “We’ll talk about this once you return.”

Obviously Brooklyn had no intention of getting chewed out by Coach Hayes in person. She was going to return to Sadeg for her commencement ceremony as if nothing was amiss. Thankfully, Coach Hayes seemed keen to keep the news of Brooklyn not showing up at Sadeg State’s NSCF camp secret as well. Things were already pretty dicey for the Skyhawks in NSCF. News about the presumed QB1 being AWOL would only stoke that media fire.

The first week of training camp for Cavsar went by pretty well. Brooklyn managed to get a solid amount of reps in with her new Cavsar offense, even with having to dodge media members along the way. She made a couple throws to Julian, and though things still felt a little weird between them (they hadn’t interacted beyond some bland small talk at meals), Brooklyn could feel herself reanimating the quarterback-to-receiver connection they had in high school.

She left Cavsar immediately after the conclusion of Friday’s practice, flying into Sadeg and arriving well after dark. She retrieved her car from the parking lot and drove back to her apartment. In her good fortune, Grace Robbins seemed to already be asleep. Grace would certainly be overloading Brooklyn with questions as soon as she saw her, but at least that would be delayed until morning.

“Okay, I know I should’ve told you earlier, but I’m doing something slightly insane.” Brooklyn said when she ran into Grace in the kitchen the next morning.

“More or less insane than anything else you’ve done over the last five years?” Grace asked, only half-joking.

“More. Definitely more.” Brooklyn went on to explain the entire deal with her last-minute switch to Cavsar.

“CAVSAR?!” Grace exclaimed, prompting a round of shushing from Brooklyn. “I can’t even begin to explain how crazy you’re being right now. And why couldn’t you have just told me last week?”

“I need this to be a secret. We’re graduating today, I don’t want rotten fruit being thrown at me on stage.” Brooklyn grimaced. “Everybody’s gonna know by the beginning of next week, but that’s okay because by then I’ll be ‘safe’ at Cavsar.”

“Or you could’ve just stayed here and not have to worry about any of this insane bullshit!”

“I’ve made my decision. You can argue with me about it for the next twenty years, that’s fine. Just keep it quiet for one afternoon? Please?”

“Hmph.” Grace folded her arms, staring pointedly at Brooklyn for a solid ten seconds before relenting. “Fine. But I’m not going to let this go!”

A few hours later, Grace and Brooklyn were separated by a few dozen rows of chairs set up on the field of Skyhawks Gridiron Park. The very same stadium Brooklyn had called home for five seasons (really nine if you include NSCF) was the place where she’d be completing her Skyhawk tenure. While the commencement went through its yawn-inducing introductions, Brooklyn realized that there was only one Cavsar vs Sadeg State matchup this season, and it was going to be at Roy Memorial. She’d already played her last game in this stadium. That fact alone made Brooklyn regret her decision more than anything. But it was too late now.

Lots of Brooklyn’s family members were in attendance up in the bowl of the stadium. Naturally, much of the crowd were Skyhawk football fans. Even though many of them were surely among her detractors, she still received a rather loud cheer from the audience at large when her name was called to walk across the stage and receive her stand-in diploma.

As Brooklyn reached the end of the stage, she took an extra moment to look across the stadium one more time. It was almost more fitting that it would end with a graduation. Her era as a true student-athlete was over. She’d accomplished at least one goal she had coming in as a Skyhawk, though it wasn’t wearing pads or coming through this field.

For better or worse, it was done. Brooklyn Beck had finished her final hour at Sadeg State. She was more than misty-eyed as she strode down the steps and back to her seat.

NSCF: 4-4

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Oct 16, 2025 1:06 pm

The Trent State Feathercaps were flying high after producing a rare shutout at home, with Alehandro Martinez patting himself on the back for his efforts as DC, but the remaining questions were simple - could they keep this up? TJUN-ian teams have struggled to do just that this campaign, but could TSU break the cycle? Against the Nowa Kalanianska Aztecs at the Stadion Urszula Piotrowska, many hoped for a good answer...but did they? Well, the defence was certainly up to scratch, conceding only 12 points in the form of 4 FGs from François McDuff...but TSU only scored a FG in return. In this defensive slog, the Caps got Iowa'd 12-3 and move back to 4-4 with the Valanora teams approaching like titans of the sky.

The Green City Royal Eagles, once on the right track, were now 3-4 and looking for answers from Paul Abdullahi and this team. They hoped those answers would come on the road at Stade Georges-Étienne Latouche against the UNSJJSM Toucans...and like a beacon of light, Ngimphiwe Cele answered the call. How does 7 combined TDs sound, 6 from Cele and 1 Pick-6 from Landry Gâce á Dieu Tsoungui-Abega? Good? Good, because that's how it went down. 48-17, a comeback statement of epic proportions to send the Eagles back to 4-4 eith 2 games to play in the MinCon.

Two Conference games left? Damn, this season has been a slog! Can we end this on a high? Please??

Phoenixes rise to claim the Emberlight Cup, 34-20
By the Phoenixes Sports Desk, Vaelis Brightsong

Rising from the ashes? The Phoenixes have picked up to beat their fierce compatriot rivals 34-20 in tightly contested matchup that either demonstrates the pick up of the Kobold outfit or the slipping form of the Phoenixes. A win though sets the Phoenixes back on the right path and puts us back in a positive ratio and might just be the catalyst needed to compete at the top of the conference.

The first quarter set the standard, both Exultious teams understanding the stakes, the national pride on the line and bragging rights for the next cycle and it was the Kobolds who got onto the front foot first. Striking through the middle of the Phoenix defence the Kobolds ground game chew through the line culminating in Sparkflame punching through for the first touchdown of the game, 0-7. Not to be dissuaded Jackalope stoked the embers in the Phoenixes and fired two rockets across the middle for Woodheart for successive gains and big yard movement, a slight falter and Duskblade once again coming to the rescue with a 37 yard kick, 3-7.

The second quarter saw the embers burst into a roaring flame as Jackalope hands off to Khaine who would run like a creature possessed bursting through a seam carved by Wingheart and Emberforge to run in from 25 yards, Duskblade with the extra point, 10-7. A quick Kobold response would see the scores levelled through a Quickburst kick, 10-10. The Phoenixes found their rhythm and continued their assault on the Kobold defence, Jackalope finding Leopardfoot in space then looping over to Ydrach on the break from the line to power through another first down, Khaine adding some more crucial yards beating the blitz before Goldenwings acrobatic sideline grab to run in the 18 yard reception, another Duskblade PAT, 17-10.

The third quarter and the Phoenix defence stepped up time and again to extinguish any attempt of the Kobold resurgence, Nightingale teaching Sparkleheart how to anchor the interior stifling the Kobold run game with no space through the middle, turning to the pass game and the steely Ironheart and Ironwood prowled the flanks relentlessly cutting out routes and knocking down passes forcing repeated turnovers. A step up from Swiftwind at QB would see the bellows stoking the flames further with some steady gains ground out by Khaine to move the chains then Silverleaf with the reception putting the Phoenixes just outside the redzone before the brother bearclaw, Ydrach, would finish the move with another catch and a powerful run, handing off the flailing safety for an easy score, PAT from Duskblade again, 24-10.

The fourth quarter started with a long drive from the Kobolds finished by Sparkflame from close range, extra point, 24-17. Jackalope stepping back onto the field and in emphatic fashion demonstrated the true calibre of a Phoenix QB, play action and with a cannon found Goldenwing downfield for a 44 yard touchdown, the extra point from Duskblade, 31-17. Two steady drives from both teams would see a kick at either end to round out the scoring, 34-20.

Windrider was reserved with his words as ever, “We’ve come a long way since our first cycle in the NSCF. What you saw tonight was experience, leadership and fire all working together. The Kobolds are a tough opponent, they make you earn every yard, but our players stood tall when it mattered most.” Nightingale also had this to say “This trophy means more than just a win. It’s pride, it’s legacy, it’s proof that our flame never dies.”

The official inter-Exultious competition being won by the Phoenixes provides that added bonus to this debut cycle in the Celestia conference. More games to come as we head deep into the crunch moments as well as a rest week for the Phoenixes, the conference is really heating up and only the best will be able to compete with the heat, who will be the heroes to step up when the hour comes and who will be the zeroes to shirk the responsibility thrust upon them.

Introduction to Horny Horton
Bonk Tuah - Pt. 1

'What did I tell you, guys?' Rodri 'RM' Milner chuckled into the mic, as he entered into his solo 'Sunday Sport' programming in his daily sports and entertainment show 'Bonk Tuah'. Bonk Tuah, famously named after the Quebeco-Shingoryeoite R-rated superhero movie of the same name, was one of the most popular podcasts in northern Arrosia over the decade, along the lines of Call her mammi and Club Tay Tay. 'Now, what did I tell you? That it was only the matter of time before Busty and Julian would unite!'

A small round of laughter followed, as an even greater crowd gathered around him at the Bonk Tuah studio at his Place-Calania townhouse that he recently bought. His firebrand way of speaking, as well as his openness to discuss a lot of seedy rumours and even more dubious guests, have no doubt helped his engagements to skyrocket. Now, with the news of Brooklyn 'Busty' Beck's transfer to Cavsar popping, it only made sense for him to row the boat as it was only two years ago when Rodri, who seemed half-drunk and half-enamoured with what's become the Drawkfiction-popular pairing.

'I told you that this was gonna happen, that she wasn't going to be happy stuck with Mr. Jace the Penis Envy, and that after watching her future husband propel into an all-timer wideout season we most likely won't see for another fifty years, it was only a matter of time for Brooklyn Beck to decide that-'

'ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!' answered the crowd with a coordinated roar, as the technical staff put the sign on the side screens to direct the viewers.

'That's really it, guys!' Rodri agreed. 'And guess what, I still think that Brooklyn Beck's football career is not over yet. She's still a very good baseball player, and if anything could most likely find herself into a cleanup alongside Jimmy the Top in a matter of time, but football's where her blood is really at. If she still managed to survive after Brad Manlio dicking her over by putting a garbageman JI-MID Champ-MID ahead of her for too long, and then have the entire fanbase drove her out like a Nix, what the hell does it say?'

A round of drum rolls would follow. 'LOVE WINS!'

'Wait, wait, wait, love wins, did you say?' Rodri turned, faking a surprise. 'I think it's perfect time to show someone who might be most interested to hear about it. Nick, click to the video chat please.'

The television screen to his left, which he used to schedule teleconferences, popped up, showing Horace 'Horny' Horton, dressed in a single, blue bathrobe at his hotel in Bolgatanga, Aksum, Banija. 'Horny Horton! How do you do my man?' he asked.

He immediately caught the cue, upon noticing that it was time for his favourite Quebecois radio show. 'Me? I'm with my girl, young homie, how's Bonk Tuah show feeling tonight a la capitale???' He gave a shout back to the audience.

The audience, of course, gave their favourite Quebecois abroad, the one and only McKendry protege Horace Horton, a loud cheer, which was then followed by a large chant of: 'HORTON! HORTON! HORTON! HORTON!' It eventually died down, however, and Rodri turned to ask him the question. 'Where the hell are you, and in a bathrobe? NMU lets you on a vacation this early?' Rodri asked.

'Shh, DJ Bonk Tuah. I'm with ma girl, just on a weekend getaway. I go back on practice this Monday,' Horton answered, perhaps showing a bit too much of relaxation in his bones. 'What you up to? Why is everybody so excited today?'

It was then that Horace's girlfriend, olympic long-distance starlet Paisley Vesterby, shouted from their bedroom to the living room. 'Darling, who is it?' she shouted offscreen, automatically drawing his eyebrows.

'Horace Horton, is that Brooklyn Beck you are with?' he asked, in a bit of joust to tease the reaction out of him. By this point in time, Horton's fandom or crush or whatever feelings held towards Brooklyn Beck, someone of desire who was also adored by the Drawkian's now-teammate Steve Gordon and Gilligan Ahn, were well known. And while Horton's long moved onto other endeavours, still enjoying too much balance between his womanising ways and his love of fan arts that included following:

Quebec and Shingoryeo wrote:But from time to time he would also use his underrated visual skills and draw fan art of some of his favourite players. Those included, and were not limited to: Dustin Beck and Jack Hoy as Donkey and Dragon from the Shrek movie series; Judas Wolfson as sugar daddy to Lord Almighty Proko (LAP); Nathan Ellis as the Hulk; and additional works he'd get commissions from Ilya Tsunopin's Vampwolf Chronicles. Certainly a helluva joker, if anything.

...people still teased him about it.

'Who? Ma girl? I don't know what you talking about man? You know my girl, Paisley knows you guys, all that shit!' he said, not realising that he might have accidentally launched him with his new partner, Paisley Vesterby, on live radiocast.

'Oh, my,' Rodri answered, opening his mouth before giving a light facepalm. 'You know, I can't even judge you for that, because I was gonna ask how you feeling today about Julian and Brooklyn getting together at Cavsar as of...now. How do you feel about it man?'

Horton, for lack of a better word, was stunned before he got back to calmness, answering the question at hand. 'Julian Gallagher? El Twink? Man, I don't know why GLD scouts drafted him so late in first, while overdrafting that Penis man when he was fifth round material at best. Do the GLD scouts think they could beat us when they can't even scout their own homefield well,' he said, remembering the last two cycles where he played a key part in the Reapers' World Bowl victories over the Grid Corps. 'Anyways, I'm happy for them. I'm happy, you are happy, and I surely hope that I'll get Stevie Gordon and Gill Ahn up for some fucking breakfast man.'

'Thanks, Horace,' he said, before deciding that it's best he go back to doing some actual football analysis. 'Anyways, I'll let you spend some time on bed with your girlfriend....Bolgatanga...and I'll catch you later.'

He then hung up the camera, to which he went silent for a moment, then resumed. 'And ladies and gentlemen, this is why love never dies in a man. It's such a wonderful thing. and I hope that all of you will find a way to keep it going on. Now, let's actually move and talk about the man on the backfield, Maurice Muganda!'

New Life On This Offense

Image
Cold Hill's offense celebrates their second best showing of the tournament in a win vs Alexandria

The Cold Hill University Buffalo had put up over twenty seven points just once this tournament. And that hadn't come under the watch of Thomas Romeijnsen. In fact, it was a 42 point outburst with South Newlandian quarterback Chloe Dalla under center. The first game after Romeijnsen was benched by head coach Chris Dale. Well, he's back and better than ever - because for the second time, Cold Hill cleared that twenty seven point threshold.

"The kid just needed a kick in the ass," Chris Dale said. The head coach didn't join his team in the middle of the field where they were celebrating a win over the Swordsmen. Nope, he was filling up paper cups of hot chocolate and divvying them out to his several grandkids, all of whom had been lifted over the rails of the stands by linebacker Tom Zachariah and edge rusher Mack Mesmer, the latter of whom has played zero career snaps. "Romeijnsen can ball. Ya'll saw that today."

Indeed, Thomas Romeijnsen was a complete bust in his initial stint. Over four weeks, the Cardenaon transfer connected with his targets on just 78 of his 141 attempts, good for 855 yards at a 55.32% clip. He managed to throw just a pair of touchdown passes against five interceptions in Cold Hill's four games. Mind you, one was against Richardson - but in this offense, that's simply not acceptable. But that's all behind him now. In week 8, with the Buffalo up just ten to three, Romeijnsen was forced back into action with Chloe Dalla suffering a broken arm. Romeijnsen came in and connected on three consecutive passes to seal the deal with a score. So with a bit of momentum, he came in and dealt against the Swordsmen.

Romeijnsen cleared two hundred fifty yards for the first time on the season, tossing a pair of touchdowns and avoiding any turnovers. Of course, he wasn't under much pressure. The Buffalo completely controlled the pace of the game, with freshman corner Elwira Dobkowska having the best game of her young career, sacking Peppi Klerkx on one of the team's trademark DB blitzes. Between her having an excellent showing and Derek Boss's production, the Buffalo's shockingly good defense this season continued to do what it's done all season - find a way to win games when the offense isn't quite up to snuff.

"You know, Peppi Klerkx is a funny guy," Thomas Romeijnsen said of the Swordsmen's junior starter, who's drawn plenty of praise for leading Alexandria to a winning record (well, until now) in the stead of last season's #2 overall pick in the RFL draft, Nick Singer, who did the same thing basically. "He's not so much of a has been but more of a definitely-won't-be. Kinda crazy as the quarterback of a team with delusions of adequacy." Romeijnsen just shrugged off reporters' questions about his own spotty at best play, citing his win loss record instead. With the win, which saw Fluffalo be a very friendly Fluffalo throughout the contest, only intruding on pre-game warm ups two times because he was a little bit bored in his designated area, the Buffalo are 7-1 - they're in prime position to play Richardson a second time, just as they do every NSCF, despite this new single-round-robin format.

Valanora Times
Being Taken To School

For over two decades now, there has been a lot of talk about the prestigious Academy League in the Empire, of which the Magnus Academy out of Raynor City has dominated year in and year out. It is the only recognized gridirion league at primary education level, as most other primary education facilities cater towards more traditional Vanorian sports in football or basketball or ice hockey in the mountainous regions of the mainland. For football, there is of course the fact that a lot of clubs have their own academies as well that youth prospects as young as ten years old are able to enroll into and on top of recieving top level training for their sport they are also given a formal education alongside the training. There is also the famous Night Academy, also in Raynor City, which operates independently of any individual club but serves the entirety of Raynor City as a whole, though its graduates tend to prefer to choose to enter the youth team of Raynor City United over other capital clubs and all the clubs still run their own private academies. However when it comes to gridiron, it is solely the ten academies dotted through the Empire that service it and if you weren't one of those with a keen interest in the sport in the Empire, you would never know who they were or what cities they are are in.

Besides the juggernaut that is Magnus Academy located in the nation's capital, there are four other institutions that are located within what many now refer to as the heartland of the Empire, locations within the original boundaries of the original elven kingdoms that eventually became Valanora. The most notable of these is Holmgren, which is located in the breadbasket of the nation in Mar Sara and to not many surprise it is usually the Mar Sara based school that is often the one that gives Magnus the most amount of trouble both during the regular season and in the playoffs. One common factor of all ten academies is that they are all named after local gridiron players who pioneered the way for the game to become what it is today in the Empire, the two schools that represent us in the NSCF being year in and year out competitors as well as the formation of a professional league. The players these institutions are named after could have only ever dreamed of a time in the Empire where you could actually play gridion outside a semi-professional or amateur level, much less have true contenders within the Empire. Joining Magnus and Holmgren in the heartlands are Strand and Marius located in Travesian and Longview respectively, with Viborg located at the often overlooked port city of Port Swell.

From there you have to travel north and to the east for four of the remaining five teams in the league, first stopping at Bakken Academy in Kenmore Hills, who is named after a relative of current Sabres player Ole Bakken. Heading north from Kenmore Hills you wind up in the most populous city in the northern half of the mainland in Coral Bay, which has Tahir Academy, though a lot of its student body is known for getting in trouble in breaking curfew thanks to the pristine beaches and amazing nightlife that is in the coastal city. Continuing northeast from there you run into the coastal city of Milran Serin, a very worldly city that has a large amount of diaspora from all over the place including a large Audioslav contingent. In this port city you will find the Brevik Academy, a popular choice for a lot of players in the north of the nation to attend with the sandy beaches and beautiful environment to soak in, a great place to grow up in no doubt. You then have to head southeast and go for quite a long while through hilly and mountainous terrain before you wind up at another coastal paradise in Caethserir, where Rykvik Academy is located. Unlike Coral Bay, there is not a lot of fancy things to do in the city and so the students really put their nose to the grindstone and Rykvik has a great university placement program that a lot of their students take advantage of.

Rounding out the league you have to travel far to the east over the seas and into Sabine and Caddonia, reaching the metroplex on their northern shore in Bexar, where Felix Academy is located. One of the biggest institutions in Sabine, the academy is seen by a lot as a pathway to getting accepted into either South Caddonia University or Sabinal State, as such Felix is usually struggling the most in the Academy League with its student more academically focused than whats happening on the gridiron. With ten teams in the league, there is a single round robin format with the top three teams in the standings advancing to the playoffs, with the top team getting a bye to the title game and then a semifinal between the second and third placed team. A lot of the title games end up taking place in Longview, as the League maintains that it must be a true neutral venue for the title game, which is usually Magnus against Homgren eliminating the use of Raynor City and Mar Sara as possible venues. As is usual, Magnus finished top of the regular season standings this season and is awaiting the winner of Holmgren and Marius to see who they will be facing in the title game.

Anyone and everyone with at least four functioning neurons (this unfortunately counts out maybe every retired Ranorian skill player ever) should recognize that Craig Kelly belongs absolutely nowhere near the fixed Mineral's CCG.

And yet,

For the fifth season in a row, he's got a shot to bumble into it yet again by doing absolutely nothing. To this point, UC-Prairie's schedule has been the quintessential Mineral smorgasbord that has carried the Jays to the top of the conference for the last five seasons, and now is when you start to take into account what the whiners from last season's miracle Jays perfect regular season were complaining about. In droves, they argued how the Mineral hasn't been relevant since the Vanorians left the conference originally, how the schedule is nowhere close to that of any other conference's, how the winners of the conference are perennially frauds, I could go on. The thing is, they're right. UCP is a 6-4 team in the Horizon, and Craig Kelly would probably find a way to go 5-5 in the Beight.

Instead, the Possession Philanthropist sits in control of the conference right now at 7-1, being the only one-loss team left with two to go. He and Cunningham cruised through the first four, lost an absolute shootout at Raynor, and then picked right back up where they left off. Knowing literally anything about this team, a loss should utterly annihilate them, and yet the Jays were almost unaffected by it. You simply just cannot have this type of performance in any other conference; there's no other environment in which a team could exist like that and be as successful as the Jays were. But here we are, Craig Kelly clinching a fifth consecutive winning season out of his six-year career, which highlights a larger reason as to why Craig Kelly can exist in the state that he is and yet be as successful as he is in the Mineral:

The Mineral is physically incapable of being legitimized again.

In what we all thought was a realignment to increase parity in the Mineral, the Vanorians were brought in and expected from day one to absolutely dominate the class. Instead of legitimizing the conference and closing the power vacuum handily, it would appear as though they still could not stop UC-Prairie from finding the top of the table. By proxy, any conference that the Jays are winning is immediately a fraudference and cannot be fixed. Thus, as long as the Jays are still in the Mineral, still winning a ton, and still without silverware, it's not going to become any more legit any time soon.
It's empty.

Northern Moravica WINS, 34 to 26, over Lithrelier University

Image

Horton comes up big in the clutch again as NMU wins thriller at home over Lithrelir, 34-26, as conference play reaches its denouement

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- The task, was simple in theory. They entered the day with 5(!) different teams tied in the loss column, with three losses a piece, all tied for second place in the conference. All competing for the second spot in the Celestia Conference championship game, in Busukuma- the first spot of which was clinched by a red-hot Loyola team at the Istria Lightning Yard. Northern Moravica, despite opening the season with losses to its two biggest in-conference rivals, and starting generally at 1-3, have stormed back into the conversation- winning 4 in a row to get back to 5-3, and assert themselves at the center of this conversation. Their next opponent would be Lithrelir University, in what was functionally an elimination game- the loser of which would get their fourth loss, and they'd have basically no prospects to reach Busukuma.

Lithrelir, just a week prior, had gotten a decently surprising win over the University of Aberstadt, putting up 27 points against the best defense in the conference. They sit at 5-3, with dreams of a Celestia conference championship dancing before their eyes. "Look, they've got a quality gridiron team over there- it's not going to be easy, by any means, to defeat them. The stakes rise with each game, but as I always tell my players- big wins beget big games. While we had a critical road win last week in Grand Exultia against Kobale, they lit it up against one of the NSCF's elite defenses, and now have earned their way to this point. We're both 5-3, and we both have confidence that we can get win #6. We at NMU, have faith in our gameplan, have faith in our players, that we can go out and execute properly, and that backed by the best fans in college athletics, that we can put out the flame of the Phoenixes."

For a game that ended up being pretty high scoring, the first quarter did not reveal any of that. It was mostly a punt fest- despite Vonian Duskblade drilling a 51 yarder towards the end of the quarter. But still, with the score just 3-0 in favor of the visitors after one, there was no hint that the scoring would really start. While NMU is mostly a school that is about long, methodical drives, sometimes, they've got to change things up. Amy Skylar showed off her deep ball early in the second quarter, when, on a 2nd & 2, the coaches called a go route for Mark Lutt- and he had single coverage down the near sideline. She threw a beautiful ball, and Mark Lutt was able to make a terrific catch. Defender draped all over him, a great showcase of his late hands, and they stuck to the football like glue. NMU's first lead of the game, by a score of 7-3.

But the rest of the quarter, would be all about the Phoenixes- well, mostly about the Phoenixes. They responded to that touchdown by doing what they do best- giving the football to Oscar Goldheart, and letting the running back go to work. A balanced, four minute drive, with lots of both running the football and the short pass- until, on a 1st & 10 from the NMU 26, Goldheart got sprung free, broke a tackle, and ran 26 yards for a touchdown to rip the lead back from the hosts. And a couple of drives later, they were able to maintain that balance, getting into field goal range and allowing Duskblade to show off his strong leg again. So with 3 minutes left in the quarter, Lithrelir led by 6 at Mugisha II Memorial, by a score of 13-7.

Lithrelir had a chance to run a 2 minute drill, and extend its lead again, going into halftime. But with the NMU offense struggling, as the Phoenixes had done a fairly good job of taking away the team's superstar, Horace Horton, they would need to turn to their defense for a spark. And Tidiane Wane was ready. Swiftwind was a change at QB for the Phoenixes, and he's making just his 3rd start of the season. They were moving the ball crossing into NMU territory. Aggressively attacking the sideline, pressure from Illich Kysil made him throw the ball maybe just a beat too early. Sailed it over the outstretched arms of his WR1, and straight into the hands of Tidiane Wane- who had a little bit of a return. An interception that could turn the tide of the game entirely- instead of Lithrelir taking a 2 possesion lead, NMU had momentum, and a chance to maybe even take the lead.

Before the final drive of the second quarter, Horace Horton's stats were miserable. 0 catches- 0! And then, running the ball- just 6 carries for 17 yards. But with 1st & 10 at their own 42, he finally made his presence felt, with a 26 yard reception, on a post route, on the first throw following the interception. They only got 9 more yards after that, but it was a message- you give this team a second life, some chance of life, and they are going to take it. Hawk Rukodzi drilled a 41 yard field goal as time expired in the half, and the visitors led by 3 at the break, by a score of 13 to 10. Going into halftime, McKendry said things needed to change. "It's a heavyweight fight- both teams have conference title hopes, and playoff hopes, and they could be significantly altered by this one. So I'm not surprised. We have got to do a better job of getting the ball into the hands of our best players. Horton is too good to have less than 50 yards of offense in the first half. That's on us, as coaches. We've got talent in a lot of places though, so good on Mark Lutt for stepping up. Let's continue to make that happen."

NMU got the ball to start the third quarter. And what did they do? Hit up Horace Horton. A 5 play drive, starting at their own 23. A handoff to Horton, for a 13 yard run. Then, a 9 yard pass to Horton. Then, a 25 yard pass, also to Horton. Then, a 16 yard pass to Mark Lutt, to set NMU up inside the red zone. And then, digging deep into the bag of tricks. Three running backs in on the play- with Horton in the QB slot, in the shotgun. Linus Lancaster, the heavily talented but rarely used true freshman HB, to his left. And then, Brianna Heavenworth to Horton's right. The QB, Amy Skylar, lined up at WR. A defense in confusion- not a formation that NMU have shown before. They ran a read option, and the defense hesitated, and then crashed on Horton- so he made the correct read to hand it off to Heavenworth, who took the hole to her left, followed Linus Lancaster(who blew up the LB), and ran it in for a 14 yard touchdown run. A brilliant play design, that had the defense lost- and gave NMU the lead.

A perfect start to the second half- and when they followed that up by forcing a punt, NMU fans could smell blood in the water. Up 4, moving the ball in huge chunks on their last drive, their star players feeling it- it was time to go for a kill shot, right? Maybe it was- but Amy Skylar simply made the wrong throw. A corner route to Horace Horton, but the ball was underthrown, and picked off by the opposing CB1. Windweaver returned it to the NMU 31 yard line, and the stadium was stunned into silence. Everybody knew- they were in a dogfight now. It took the Phoenixes just 2 plays to score. A quick out route by Swiftwind for 9 yards, and then a HB screen to Goldheart on 2nd and short, where he made 2 players miss en route to the end zone for his second touchdown of the game. Suddenly, Lithrelir had snatched back the lead, and led by three points, once again- 20-17. Late in the quarter, they kicked another field goal, to extend their lead to 6.

Now, NMU was nervous. Down 6, in the fourth quarter. They needed a big play- and once again, Lithrelir's defense had some momentum. Who would step up for the Cougars? None other than the much maligned Boy Guissé. He's had a quiet junior season, with not so many targets to go around in such a run first offense. But on this play... He was ready. He ran a deep post- got behind the safeties. A double move left the safety biting, and Skylar lofted one, about 40 yards in the air, and Guissé caught it at the 20. But then he continued running, juking past the chasing safety for a touchdown. "You know, I haven't had many big plays this year... But I knew my number would be called upon eventually." Guissé told reporters after the game. "I was ready for this big game moment, and Amy found me. Hopefully, we can do that a little bit more for the rest of the season."

Another huge touchdown pass- she had TD passes of 42 and now 62 yards on the day, as NMU now led by just 1 point, 24-23. And once again, the defense got a stop, forcing a punt, and NMU fans were thinking that it was time to build on their lead. But once again, Lithrelir had other ideas- after Devin Kitchner got 12 yards on a 3rd & 3, he had the football punched out for a fumble, recovered by the defense. A brutal sequence of events, if you were a NMU fan. A total momentum swinger. And a few minutes later, it'd be Vonian Duskblade kicking his fourth field goal of the contest, to regain the lead with just under 10 minutes left in the contest, 26-24. A shocked football team. NMU immediately went three & out- Heavenworth up the middle for 8 yards on first down, but Horton stuffed at the LOS on both 2nd and 3rd down and short. A punt, a chance for Lithrelir to put this game to rest, with just over 7 and counting remaining.

But that was not on the cards, not yet. NMU defense allowed a 15 yard run for Goldheart on the first play, yes. But on that next series. Jermaine Williams Stuffed him in the backfield for a 3 yard loss. Then, an 8 yard scramble by Swiftwind set up a 3rd & 5. The crowd noise forced a false start, setting up 3rd & 10. And pressure from Kyle Turner on 3rd & long forced Swiftwind to throw the football away, ensuring NMU would get the ball back. And with 6:33 remaining, they'd punt. DeColdest Carey, fielding at his own 22, would have a high quality run, getting 18 yards to set up NMU at its own 40- good field position, and great when you remember that they were only down 2 points, meaning they'd only need a FG.

Amy Skylar was known as a big game player in HS, and in this moment where they needed her most, she delivered. Throw after throw- move the team not only into field goal range, but into the red zone. And when the going got tough, who did she look to? You guessed it.

Banijan Radio Commentator wrote:NMU has the ball at the Lithrelir 14 yard line, and with under 4 minutes left, as well. Both teams have all of their timeouts. It's 2nd & 8 for NMU, after Heavenworth only gota 2 yard gain on first down. Amy Skylar has really been having a huge game so far- lots of big time throws. A couple of huge TD passes. 6 different passes today she's completed for 20+ yards, including a 42 and a 62 yard touchdown. Yet, her team still trails. Can she get a touchdown? She comes out of the huddle, and she's lined up under center. They're in 11 personnel. HOrton's at the TE spot, on the LOS. Heavenworth in the backfield. Three WRs are bunched to her left. The ball is snapped. She sticks it out to hand it off to Heavenworth- but it's a play-action! She whips around, and delivers a dart right.. And it's caught by Horton at the 3! He THROWS WINDWEAVER OFF OF HIM, TAKES A STEP, AND DIVES INTO THE END ZONE FOR THE GO-AHEAD TOUCHDOWN!

OH MY GOODNESS, THIS PLACE IS LOSING ITS MIND! What a play! A simple play-action, freeze the defense- enough to get Horton open. She delivers the throw, and they've got the first down. But Horace didn't settle. He literally threw the smaller CB off of him, and then dove for that front pylon. A brilliant play, and NMU has taken the lead! He's gonna get a 15 yard excessive celebration unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for going back to the CB and doing the 'you can't see me' celebration over him, and that'll be applied to the PAT- so NMU can't go for 2 to make it a 6 point game. But that doesn't matter- the lead is NMU's. Has Horton won it for us?

31-26 NMU, with 3:23 left in the football game. If you're Swiftwind, well, what young QB doesn't dream of this exact scenario growing up? If he led them down the field, on the road, in THIS raucous environment, against this NMU team? In his 3rd career start? He might vault himself into legend status. Excellent kick coverage meant that Lithrelir started at their own 14 yard line. But- NMU's defense ensured that this day was not about Swiftwind's coming out party- that NMU would march on. First play, a dumpoff to Goldheart for 3 yards. Second play, they would attack downfield, trying to get a 20+ yard play to spark the offense- but a leaping interception by DeColdest Carey stunted those plans. He was brought down at the NMU 40 yard line. But Lithrelir would have a chance to tie the game, as NMU went 3 & out, giving the visitors another chance as Rukodzi drilled a long kick.

But once again, the NMU defense would stand tall. They allowed one first down- and then, on the next series, stood tall. On the critical 4th down play, it was Jermaine Williams, the stud DT, whose pass rush up the middle would reach the QB, and sack him before he could get a throw off, that would end the game. Final score- NMU 34, Lithrelir 26. "An instant classic today, credit to both teams- but our march continues on." Coach McKendry told reporters. "That's win #6, and while that's a big one for our ambitions, that show must go on. Lithrelir have shown the conference how good they are- I wouldn't be surprised if they beat Loyola next week. But while we celebrate tonight, we're locking in immediately- all eyes are on Seecester for next week."

NMU Monday evening radio program

Radio Host: "Hello, today I've got my usual guest- Head Coach Hannah Mckendry, and she's joined by 2 players this time- Amy Skylar, the QB, and Horace Horton, the superstar. Welcome!"

All three say various versions of thank you for allowing me on your show today, and other pleasantries, before he dives in.

Radio Host: "Alright coach, let's start with you. When we were 1-3, many NMU fans were worrying about a lost season. But you've completely turned the ship around. From 1-3 to 6-3, winners of 5 in a row, and a legitimate shot at a rematch with Loyola in the Celestia Conference Championship Game, if certain things go your way. What changed?"

Hannah McKendry: "Well, first, we made sure to rededicate our offense to its strength- getting Horton the football." (She laughed, and then continued speaking.) "We've got a guy who, I think, is the absolute best player in college football. Look at his own stats today- 14 carries for 71 yards, that's a pretty decent line. And then, 7 catches for 101 yards, and a touchdown. That's over 170 yards of total offense- I think 120 of them or so in the second half? He's at the center of everything we do. He helps balance out the running game, as well. Heavenworth is great, and when she's splitting carries with a guy like Horton, she can be electric. It helps both of them be explosive, and more importantly, stay fresh. Apollo Esther (RB coach) does such a great job with them- it's hard for a truly great player to be a great coach, but he's done so, developing both of our backs."

"And as we rededicated our running game, that made things easier for Amy.

Radio Host: "What are your thoughts, Amy?"

Amy Skylar: "Well, you know, your first few starts, everything's so crazy, right? And my first career start, in the North v. South Showdown- just not easy. That game, however, has been fuel for us. We had them dead to rights, up 13-0 in the 3rd quarter- and we blew it. Had some really poor ones after that- that trip we had to the Islamic University was a nightmare. But, then ,we steadied ourselves. I got more comfortable in the offense, the game kinda slowed down for me, just a little bit- and once I started really finding a passing connection with Horton, it allowed me to help find my other WRs more. But the strength of the running game across the past five weeks really opened the passing game.

And you saw it against Lithrelir. Two huge TD passes, yes. Safeties cheating up, seeing Horton in the backfield. Allowing our WRs to run back there in single coverage. And even on Horton's TD- the play-action, the threat of the run, froze the defense to allow him to find a pocket in the defense, and for me to deliver a strike. Of course, he did the rest- but it's all working right now."

Radio Host: "Alright, let's go to you, Hannah. 6-3 NMU against 6-3 Aberstadt. Flexed to a night game in Seecester. If U of A wins, they go to Busukuma. If we win, and Holland Tech loses in Quebec, we go to Busukuma. What's your approach?"

Hannah McKendry: "We don't control our own destiny, so I'm not worried about things that are not in my control. Are we good enough to go there and win this conference? Of course we are. But we don't control our own destiny in that regard, and I'm not thinking about it. But we do control our own playoff destiny- whether we make it or not, and that push starts on Saturday night, in Seecester. Regardless of how the conference race goes, there are 8 at-large spots this year, and more competition than ever for them. We very well may be in the race for those, and this win will start us off on the right path.

U of A present a unique set of challenges- an elite defense, and we're not quite sure who's gonna play at QB for them. It's gonna be a low-scoring, physical game- we're going to have to try and win this thing in the trenches. Dominate at the line on both sides of the ball."

Radio Host: "Best defense in the conference, sure- but they've never faced a player quite like Horace Horton, have they?"

Horace Horton: "Exactly sir." (He said that, basically interrupting the host.) "Look- I don't know the scenarios to reach Busukuma, who has to do what. But let me tell you what I do know. They haven't faced a player like me. The best defense in this league is the one I go up against in practice on Monday-Friday, not any defense I've seen on a Saturday- and that's certainly not starting in Seecester. We're going to go to Seecester, under the lights, and we're gonna win."

Radio Host, stammers: "Uhhh, don't you mean you're gonna play well? Play your best?"

Horace Horton: "Nope. Look, they're a nice story- always good when a new team comes into the NSCF and is immediately being competitive. But we're NM-freaking-U, we're in a different weight class. Put it on the front page, back page, side page. Plaster this all over their Locker room. I don't care if 5, or 5,000 or 5 million people fit in their stadium- let me tell you what's gonna happen. I'm gonna score a touchdown, and NMU's gonna win the game."

Kind of a stunned silence for about 5-10 seconds, before McKendry starts speaking.

Hannah McKendry: "Uh.... Yeah. We do have confidence, but Aberstadt are an elite, high-quality opponent. There's a reason they've got the best odds to reach Busukuma to play against Loyola right now. Sir, if we could move onto the next line of questioning...."

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer on a losing streak and Nowa Kalanianska wins two in a row

Oesterstrand, New Rotterdam - After defeating Nowa Kalanianska 33-20 on week 5, Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer lost 4 games in a row and are having a losing record. After a difficult home game against Green City, the Toucans travelled to New Rotterdam to play against Prince Pieter's College and it was another difficult day. We've got two passing touchdowns from Jérémie Mimeault-Touchette, one to Charles-André Fréreault and another one to 5 star freshman Christoph Schwarzensteiner. The Toucans missed a 2 points conversion on the 2nd touchdown and lost 35-13 against the Minutemen.

Audrey Plouffe-Maheux

Green City, AU Zone, TJUN-ia - Following a great defensive performance against Trent State, which Nowa Kalanianska won 12-3 thanks to 4 field goals, the Aztecs travelled to TJUN-ia to play against the Green City Royal Eagles and we totally dominated our opponent, both offensively and defensively. Green City started off with the ball and punted the ball on their first drive. Nowa Kalanianska scored on their first drive when Malgorzata Kozlowska caught Carter McElhaney's 17 yards pass into the endzone. On Green City's next drive, John Tshabalaba runs with the ball and he fumbles it. Karolina Szuszkiewicz-Wloszczowska recovers the ball and runs all the way to the endzone for a defensive touchdown. Defensive tackle Grzegorz Gronkowski forced the fumble. Before the end of the first quarter, Wanati Khalihina made a 34 yards field goal. The score was 14-3 Nowa Kalanianska after 15 minutes.Early in the 2nd quarter, Victoria Pineault caught Carter McElhaney's screen pass at the 37 yards and runs to the endzone for a 39 yards passing touchdown. Nowa Kalanianska made another touchdown when Katarzyna Zlotkowska caught Carter McElhaney's 19 yards pass into the endzone. The Aztecs also made a 48 yards field goal before the end of the 2nd quarter and the score at halftime was 31-3 Nowa Kalanianska.

Nowa Kalanianska increased their lead with a 5 yards rushing touchdown by Victoria Pineault late in the 3rd quarter and the score was 38-3 after 3 quarters. Green City finally made a touchdwon midway in the 4th quarter when Bongekile Cele caught Ngimphiwe Cele's 22 yards pass into the endzone. Nowa Kalanianska answered immediately with a 102 yards kick return touchdown by Nathan Carson and the final score was 45-10.

Nowa Kalanianska is 6th in the standings, tied with both jaguar teams, with a 4-5 record while UnSJJsM is 9th with 3 wins and 6 losses. there's a quadruple tie at the top of the conference between both Vanorian teams, Columbus-Prairie and St. Paulus. On week 11, the final regular week, the Toucans will recieve St. Paulus at noon on saturday while Nowa Kalanianska will receive Prince Pieter's at 4 pm, also on saturday.

Before the NSCF Season
University of Dietrich Indoor Practice Facility

Jarrett Shepherd lived by the mentality of winning at any cost. If the ends justify the means had an avatar, he'd be that guy. That meant he expected practices to be perfect. He expected the team's workouts to be as precise and focused as brain surgery. But there was one time a year where he allowed a bit of goofing off. Just after the team's first day of training camp, he grabbed the kicker. And the kicker, while shocked the first time it happened, had been through this before.

"Jack Volkanovski!" Jarrett Shepherd called out after practice, and the six foot four kicker stood and ran over to his head coach. Jarrett smiled at him. Vokanovski smiled back.

"Would you agree," he said, speaking more to the rest of the team than to Volk as he slowly circled the kicker, "That you had a less strenuous day today than any of these fine young men?" He gestured to the assorted actual players. Volk laughed and shrugged, then made a show of massaging his leg.

"Debatable, but sure."

"So you'd agree then, that you should be at a competitive advantage in a competition against these guys?" The rest of the team started to cheer. "Well good news Jack, we had a little competition this morning between the best kickers among the position players, and Michael here won the contest!" The rest of the fellas started pumping their helmets in the air, and wide receiver Michael Brown joined them in the center of the field.

"So Jack, if you can beat Michael here in a kicking competition, you can keep your scholarship. If not?" Jarrett ran a finger around his own throat, "You'll be off my team, and the next guy will be up. Are you ready?" Jack nodded, and the two of them took their places.

"Make some noise fellas!" Jarrett called to his team, and the entire squad of the University of Dietrich Snow Bears roared as Jack Volkanovski toook his spot, and the hooting and hollering stopped once his thirty yard kick went straight through the uprights. Jack didn't celebrate, he knew better than to make it seem like he was excited to see it going in on this squad, and the team went silent as Michael stepped up and drilled it as well.

The routine continued. A couple shots from angles, a couple down the middle, and they slowly kept moving back. Jack stayed smooth while Michael's kicks got a little wobbly as he started trying to muscle them, and they finally got to forty five yards when Michael missed. Jack? Straight through the uprights. But there was still no celebration. He knew what was coming.

Jarrett Shepherd nodded, then grabbed the back of his kicker's pads and yanked him to where four large foam pads made a short alley. Three players were already there. Jack Volkanovski looked seeing big Isaiah Brundidge standing in front of the team's biggest back, Derrick Dareas, ball in hand. Opposite them? Damian "The Glutton" Morrison, and Jack sighed.

"Make the tackle." Jarrett shoved him in behind Morrison, and Jack rolled his neck. Took a deep breath, shut out the cheers as he always had, and squatted all the way down before straightening to an athletic stance, fingers fidgeting in wait.

The whistle came, and the titans that Brundidge and Morrison were collided in the middle, neither budging an inch. Jack knew he had a chance, with the two clogging the lane so badly that Derrick Dareas tried to squeeze between them and the pads. But Jack knew the team mascot.

Any means necessary flashed through his mind, and he hopped up onto one of the pads while Derrick tried to sidle his way through, then jumped onto his back, wrapping around him like he was going on a piggyback ride and getting him just off balance enough that a push from Morrison sent them all crashing to the turf.

The jeering and heckling of the team quickly turned to raucous applause, and these, Morrison did allow to get through. He still had his scholarship, and his team knew they had a kicker who'd at least fight for them.

Image@SnowBearSnarlFor the fourth time this season, the Snow Bears have four players rack up 40+ rushing yards. Depth will carry this team to the postseason

Image@BasementDwellerNSCFerDrawkland and Ranoria look like the only two three-school-entrants to have a shot at going three-for-three at a playoff berth. Cavsar, Richardson, and Cold Hill are all virtually locks. Drawk Corps and the University of Dietrich would have a shot even with a middling finish, and a Beckless Sadeg would need to rattle off one hell of a finish. The Islamic University and Staramara have both doomed the chances of their respective nations for that honor - if the former even counts.

Image@BynesMuseThe Dietrich Snow Bears are currently sporting the NSCF's top defense - their depth helps, but this defense's stars have led the way. Greedy Silvera might be the NSCF's top cornerback with three interceptions this season, Daniel Ateman makes the most of his nice 60% snap count against the run and pass, and of course, The Glutton has been an immovable object in the middle. Morrison's ability to completely shut down the inside runs at times has forced teams to attack the edges of this defense - something they can anticipate and plan for.

The Gold Standard:
Boss, Buffalo Beat Down New Cardonia To Earn Trip To Drawkland

Image
Head coach Chris Dale didn't mind calling out his players' mistakes in the 36-13 win

Maybe the 'super conference' format shift wasn't the worst thing for these Ranorian sides. Where their blowout loss to the Governors would've doomed them in prior campaigns, the Buffalo still clinched their conference championship game berth with a game to play. They did it in one of their most complete showings this season. An offense that's been stuck in the mud looked elite, and a defense that has no right to be good was once again dominant. Derek Boss's unit, the second best defense in the NSCF, allowed just thirteen points behind the strong safety's seven tackle performance that included a first quarter sack.

Cold Hill's defensive personnel, largely, is depressing to look at. Giles Kansanoff has done well at edge rusher. Linebacker Tom Zachariah has emerged as a difference maker at the second level, but he's still not really among the best in the NSCF at the position. Their cornerback room is downright depressing despite some flashes from freshman Elwira Dobkowska. So they should be downright egregiously bad. But nope. They've got maybe the best player in college football at safety, and Derek Boss, after helping to drag this team to an NSCF championship appearance through a littany of injuries so bad you wouldn't be shocked to find them in an obituary, has been even better this season.

The superstar Drawkian safety has been known for his violent big hits this season, he's knocked a couple players out of games and been an enthusiastic run defender. But he's forcing turnovers as well. Boss has pulled in three interceptions in nine games, and after today has forced three fumbles. Twice he's made plays that resulted in defensive touchdowns for his teammates. A week one strip sack taken back by Tom Zachariah (who has two such scores this season), then a nasty hit on a Dietrich wideout that ended in a Miles Yun pick six.

Throw in a half dozen tackles for loss, and it's easy to see why the Buffalo defense is suddenly playing lights out. The last time they looked this good, Proko, Victoria Mio, Agnor Viridian, and Munanaire Tembo were roaming the secondary and frankly - they were four first round players. Boss is the only one player, barring underclassmen who haven't hit their stride yet, who's projected to be a top-50 pick on this defense. It's so obvious that even Governors OC Brad Manlio was willing to call them out on it after their game. He's hard carrying this defense, and maybe this entire team based on how the offense has looked until recently.

But that hasn't seemed to shake the confidence of quarterback Thomas Romeijnsen, who's been back in the saddle for two games now. "Ya know I feel like New Cardonia State set some really low team goals this season," Romeijnsen said after the game, "And still failed to achieve them. You'd feel for them after getting gutted a few years back if they weren't so gross to look at."

No surprise that there's no love lost for New Cardonia International State from the LeBois transfer quarterback. But with the conference championship game clinched, the question had to be asked, will the Buffalo rest their starters. Chris Dale was fairly adamant that wouldn't be the case.

"I discussed it with the rest of the staff, especially coach Galstian," he gestured to the team's first year assistant head coach. "We'll be more keen to pull the starters if we run the score up than usual, but we don't want to risk losing our momentum, or potentially give up playoff seeding, with a loss." And if there's one remaining team in this conference that's a good call for, it's the Bingham Young University Miners. The Miners who, as Cold Hill was rolling through the Titans, was wreaking havoc in Dietrich Stadium. The Miners may not be at the peak they've shown in prior editions, but they're a winning football team in the best conference in the sport, and the win over a Richardson team that's loaded with talent and looked absolutely unstoppable until that game shows they can play with anybody.

Fan of football, the Murican kind. But soccer is cool too! Just not really my thing. C(:^D/-<

"So. Um."

Anika steers Dries through the garden by his wrist.

"What's your major?"

"Don't be boring."

"Sorry."

They pass giggling couples, stealing away into the bush.

"Where are you from?"

"New Rotterdam," says Anika.

"Ah."

Anika drags him through the gate and into the deserted street.

"I'm from Blaauwberg. Mid-sized town. In the Appelvelt. But not all pastoral like most of the Appelvelt. Kind of industrial. Lots of Flemish."

She doesn't respond.

"Anika, where are we going?"

"The Fall Ball was making me sick."

"Wolfswinkel?"

"Wolfswinkel's a spud. But not him. I don't know. The whole thing."

"Yeah."

"Pretentious fucks."

"I guess so."

"Watch your step."

She has dragged them to where the road runs parallel to the Oesterstrand riverbed. They clamber down to the water.

"Alright," she says.

They sit.

9:51

"Shut up!"

Dries throws his hands into the air. His grin is particularly wolfish. She's grinning too. She punches him.

"I just didn't say anything because I liked dancing with you."

"You're a jackass."

"You step on your partner's feet. It's the uncomfortable truth."

"You never tell that to a lady!"

"Integrity is a Prince Pieter's value."

"Fine," she says. She looks into the river. "What are your flaws."

"Dunno."

"Flaw one: stupid."

"Confident."

"Arrogant."

"Pft. Sure."

"That's flaw two."

"Anika Aantjes flaw two. Let's think."

"Do not answer that."

"Hm..."

"Even though your flaw one is "stupid". You're smart enough not to answer that."

"Can't think of any."

"Thank you."

They sit in quiet again, and listen to the geese crossing the harbor.

"You think they're still dancing?"

"Last waltz is at 10:30."

"Fuck."

"Yeah."

"Thanks for rescuing me."

"Thanks for coming along."

"You kind of dragged me."

"What?"

"You like grabbed me and yanked me. For a half-mile."

"I did not do that!"

"Flaw two: push—"

"Don't answer that."

"Persuasive."

She narrows her eyes at him. He blushes.

"Hm."

"What?"

She just smiles and looks away.

10:38

"Flaw three."

"Are you kidding?"

"You kiss weird."

"That's so mean."

"No. It's sweet."

"How is it possibly—"

"It's endearing."

"I haven't kissed a lot."

She giggles. "I know."

"I'm just rolling with the punches here."

"Shh."

She kisses him again.

"See. Is that a punch."

"No."

She runs her hand down his back. His fingers find her hair.

The wind knocks branches into her window.

A stream starts to emerge out of the Van Prins ballroom, on the other side of campus.

"Do you think this is what we came to find in college?"

"I don't know," she answers.

"I think I'd like to hope so."

"Prince Pieter's suffocates me sometimes."

"It's designed to."

"Fuck that."

"I don't feel so suffocated."

"At the moment."

"Yeah."

She smiles.

Brooklyn Beck (S7:E3)

Postby Drawkland » Sat Oct 18, 2025 8:20 pm

"The Immediate Revenge"

Brooklyn Beck had no idea how she’d pulled it off. The first week of NSCF training camp, dodged accountability at Sadeg State and avoided being noticed by the media in Cavsar. The commencement and graduation back in Sadeg, besides a couple heated exchanges with Grace Robbins, went very smoothly. Brooklyn even played it cool with her parents as they congratulated her and took her out to dinner that night.

“I’ve got bad news, BB.” Dustin said with partially genuine sadness.

“What is it?” Brooklyn said. Her heart skipped a beat, though she was convinced her dad couldn’t know about her Cavsar caper.

“We won’t be able to make it to your first home game this season.” Dustin sighed. “Your mom and I have this vacation trip we won in a raffle, but the only available date left is next weekend.”

“Oh, it’s alright.” Brooklyn gave a loud and clearly fake sigh. “I mean, we’re only playing, um …” she panicked, blanking slightly at Sadeg State’s week one opponent. It made sense; she wasn’t exactly studying Sadeg State’s schedule now.

“Ah, Bittersomething, right?” Dustin finished the sentence. He was none the wiser.

“Yeah, yeah, Bitternea.” Brooklyn confirmed. Thankfully it was an unknown school in their first cycle, so it wasn’t that strange that Brooklyn couldn’t remember their name. The true circumstance of her forgetting was still a secret.

She knew that she wouldn’t be able to hide what she’d done once the week one games were played (even though Cavsar had a bye). Hell, she probably would get a phone call from her dad as soon as the news broke that coming Monday that she still hadn’t reported to Sadeg State’s practices. But by then she’d be in Cavsar, pretty much untouchable. She’d have hell to pay from her dad, but she was deferring those payments till later.

After that dinner, Brooklyn bid her parents farewell and returned to her apartment, doing a little more packing (and arguing with Grace) before getting in her car and road tripping back to Cavsar. She didn’t fly this time so she’d have her car available for the rest of the summer in Cavsar.

All in all, the entire operation went better than Brooklyn could’ve ever hoped. Now it was time to really lock in and focus on getting acclimated for Cavsar’s first games of the NSCF season.

It wasn’t going to be easy. The only sort of studying Brooklyn excelled at involved film and playbooks, but a three week turnaround time was going to be a challenge. The good news was the fact that the turnaround was three weeks instead of two. Because Cavsar had the week one bye in the Horizon Conference, the Gladiator football team had two full weeks of practice plus the training camp week before they’d be taking the field in a live contest. The bad news? That live contest was set to be against Sadeg State.

Monday after graduation rolled around, and Brooklyn was nowhere to be found at State’s campus. She ignored the multiple calls from Trace Hayes and other Sadeg State staff members. By lunchtime, an astute local sports journalist in Cavsar broke the largest news of their career with photos to back it up, and word spread very quickly.

A local source in Cavsar has reported that Sadeg State graduate Brooklyn Beck is currently participating in football practice on Cavsar University’s campus. Sadeg State coaches have confirmed that Beck was not present at NSCF training camp last week in Sadeg.

This news obviously went viral. By the time lunch rolled around, Brooklyn checked her phone to see about 20 missed calls, half of them from her dad. She was NOT going to deal with those with the afternoon practice block still ahead. She’d take her verbal lashings in the evening once practice was over.

A couple intrepid Cavsar journalism students attempted to intercept Brooklyn once those afternoon blocks concluded, but she gave them the silent treatment. There would be time to unwind this later. Ideally everybody would be able to figure out how it happened on their own.

That night Brooklyn endured a seventy minute phone call with her dad. It wasn’t a fun time, and the conversation mostly went in circles. ‘This is ridiculous and disrespectful’ vs ‘I’m an adult and there’s nothing left for me at State’ ad nauseum. Thankfully Elie had grown tired of listening to the Dustin half of the conversation for over an hour and eventually cut off the call. Nobody was going to change their mind on this, and even if they did, the bridge to Sadeg State had already been burned. There’s no way they’d take Brooklyn back at this point.

If there was any good will left in the Skyhawk fanbase for Brooklyn going into her final NSCF season, it had completely evaporated now. Her defenders were left out to dry – there’s no way they could root for her in a Cavsar uniform. On the other hand, the Gladiator Faithful took to her almost instantly. One season of watching Jaxtyn Mynatt play football will make one wish for anything else. Plus, this was an undeniable own over Sadeg State. Winning the Horizon and the NSCF championship, then stealing their QB who was the child of a program legend a year later? Cavsar fans were eating good.

It wouldn’t quite have the same impact as it would if the game was hosted in Sadeg, but the week two matchup between Cavsar and Sadeg State was already looking like it would be a beef matchup for the ages. As if these two programs hadn’t grown to hate each other over the past decade, this promised to be the keystone in the rivalry. With the new NSCF format nixing the home-and-away games in-conference, this one would be for all the marbles in the Battle for the Golden Axe. Unless both Drawkian teams made it to the Horizon Conference Championship Game, but literally nobody was delusional enough to believe that could happen.

So while Sadeg State got a tune-up game at home against projected bottomfeeders Bitternea International to start their season, Cavsar would be thrown right into the fire at home against their bitter rivals. Brooklyn was on three weeks of preparation, and though she’d rekindled some of her on-field chemistry with Julian (off-field chemistry still yet to be touched), the offensive gameplan was pretty simple. Scott Linhart already had some plays back from when he first recruited Brooklyn to take advantage of her style, but there was only so much you could install in a short time, with no live play against a real opponent to test against. It was going to be the ultimate trial by fire. No matter how the season ended for Cavsar or Sadeg State, a great deal would be riding on this game for Brooklyn.

Brooklyn caught a look of herself in one of the wide mirrors in the Cavsar locker room. Similar to her accommodations at Sadeg State, she had a small closet in the locker room where she was able to change into her uniform. It felt surreal. She was dressed in the black jersey which had become Cavsar’s primary home digs partway through Logan Oakley’s tenure. Through all the travel and practice and existing in Cavsar, it hadn't felt real until that moment. She was wearing a Cavsar jersey with her “BECK” on the back. She was now a Gladiator. And in less than an hour, she'd be storming into the Coliseum to do battle.

The Cavsar football equipment crew had done an excellent job at getting everything lined up for Brooklyn. A set of jerseys, her preferred helmet model, even a selection of cleats in the same make as her old Sadeg State cleats (which couldn't be used here due to the color clash). Brooklyn herself was surprised at how quickly they got everything ready, enough to where she suspected they'd been prepared far in advance. Was Scott Linhart really that serious about bringing her in this year?

Regardless, it was time to prove that faith valid. Picking up the new and more aggressive offensive system was a challenge, but Brooklyn felt that she was just prepared enough. The Skyhawks were certainly motivated by spite to punch back, but could Reed Harper really succeed against a defense which absolutely stifled the NSCF a year prior? It wasn't exactly the same defense of course, but the big contributors like Gil Ahn and Steve Gordon were still around to tear things up. It was really a question of whether Brooklyn could keep up.

As Brooklyn ran out of the tunnel and onto the field through the marching band tunnel set, she felt incredibly thankful that this game was being held at Cavsar. She never expected to be excited about lighting up the crowd in Roy Memorial, but the crowd burst that accompanied the Gladiators entering the field was legitimately good for her psyche. She wasn't one to be terribly torn up by a chorus of boos or heckles, but the emotional impact of experiencing that at Skyhawks Gridiron Park with her old fans would've stung just a bit.

Finally it was game time. Sadeg State won the coin toss (which Brooklyn wasn't present for as she wasn't designated a team captain yet), and elected to defer. It was hard to say whether this was to get the ball after halftime or to give the Skyhawk defense a chance to attack Brooklyn right off the bat. Another loud round of cheers and claps echoed through Roy Memorial as Brooklyn led the Cavsar offense into the huddle for the first time. The Gladiator Faithful may be split on how they felt about Brooklyn turning to their side, but they knew they'd support their QB1 no matter what.

The play was in. Brooklyn stepped up under center and surveyed the Skyhawk defense in front of her. She gritted her teeth before barking out her cadence. She'd seen that look in practice a hundred times. The Sadeg State D was going to bring the pressure immediately, which she supposed she could've guessed beforehand given the circumstances. She gave an alert to her O-line (hoping she remembered the right audible for it), and called for the snap. The heat came instantly, but Brooklyn wasn't getting the ball on this play anyway. She handed off to Kenneth Lobo, who managed to sneak through a tiny window to get a couple yards before being swallowed up.

The Skyhawk defense was similarly relentless for the rest of the drive. Scott Linhart was no fool, he knew the tensions were high and that Sadeg State wanted nothing more than to put Brooklyn on her ass. He wasn't going to give them that chance for free. The first drive of the game was cautious, mostly running plays or very short passes. Meanwhile, Julian Gallagher was running wild trying to wear down the Sadeg secondary. Overall they moved the ball, but the more conservative planning caused the drive to stall out midway through Skyhawk territory. On a 3rd and 11, Brooklyn was flushed from the pocket on an obvious blitz but and no room to take off. Her closest options were covered, so she was forced to throw it away. Cavsar settled for 3 on the field goal on their first drive.

This was emblematic of the whole first half, in a way. Cavsar's drives were conservative and careful, as Linhart didn't want to put Brooklyn in a bad situation to shatter her confidence and give Sadeg State too much momentum. On the other side, Reed Harper was having a little trouble in only his second start since the previous NSCF season. This was his first real test, and though he wasn't completely folding, he also couldn't get the Skyhawks into the end zone. The halftime score was 9-6 in Cavsar’s favor. Only the kickers had seen any scoring action to this point.

Linhart wasn't too thrilled with that performance, though. He admitted to the team that he was being too timid with his playcalling due to State’s aggressive defensive scheme. The Skyhawks D was known for being more blitz-heavy than the average team, but it was on a whole new level tonight. It was no accident. But sooner or later, they'd need to let Brooklyn have more opportunities to make magic happen. After all, her best (and worst) work came as an improvisor. The Cavsar running game was decent, but it wasn't going to be enough to win the ballgame convincingly. Linhart hadn't called many options plays in the first half, and Brooklyn had to hand the ball off in each of those few reads.

Brooklyn herself was ready to cook in the second half. She'd felt stifled with the limp scheming in the first half. Even though she was rightfully worried about the consistent pressure attempted by the Skyhawk front, she knew sooner or later she'd have to make real plays. That need would be coming sooner it seemed, as Reed Harper actually piloted a decent drive to begin the second half. Sadeg State finally found the end zone and did it first, putting the Skyhawks up 9-13 after the PAT.

The ensuing Cavsar drive lit the crowd back up, though. Brooklyn finally got the chance she wanted on 2nd and 9 early in the drive. Linhart dialed up a designed bootleg pass, and Brooklyn made it count. The designed movement counteracted the blitz from State, giving Brooklyn more than enough time to make a read and find Scotti Marlin downfield. The junior tight end corraled the ball with ease and turned it into a 34-yard gain to put the Gladiators into Skyhawk territory. The next few plays were shorter, trying to catch State in disarray, and it worked. Brooklyn finally got a couple carries for a few yards and a first down along the way. It all led to the climax many were waiting for. On 1st and 10 from the 16 yard line, Linhart called for a play that was all Julian Gallagher. Designed to isolate him 1-on-1 against a DB, it would give Brooklyn a chance to let loose. She snapped it, looked off the safety just enough, then floated a touch pass to the corner of the end zone. Julian outmatched State’s Xavier Howell, and snatched the ball from its arc for a clean touchdown.

The Brooklyn-to-Julian connection was officially back. It didn't work on the subsequent two point conversion (Julian wasn't able to get untangled from the DB in time to catch the quick spot slant), but it did more than enough to remind the Cavsar crowd that they had some real talent on the field. The Gladiators had their lead back, but at 15-13, they had work to do.

That work only increased. A few drives went with alternating punts from both sides. Then Sadeg State got two lucky breaks in a row. The first break was a screen pass to Jace Phoenix which was broken into a huge gain. Jack Halifax, the State OC, called the play perfectly when Cavsar had a blitz on. Phoenix was able to roll behind his blockers and eventually break free for a 60-yard touchdown. Steve Gordon almost caught Phoenix from behind, but Jace’s fall forward got the ball across the plane before his knees hit the turf. Then, on the kickoff to Cavsar moments later, kick returner John Henrick fumbled the ball after a 30 yard return to set State right back up in Cavsar territory. The Gladiator defense held strong to limit the damage, but the Skyhawks were already in field goal range and let reigning NSCF STPOY Nicky Wolfe bang the 3-pointer in to take a one score lead 15-23.

So the Gladiators and Brooklyn had their work cut out for them. What proceeded to unfold was a simple masterclass in offensive gameplanning. Scott Linhart had seen enough of Michael Hunt’s defense. Brooklyn had gotten into enough of a rhythm. The Cavsar offense slowly but surely grinded their way up the field. It wasn't pretty, but it did suck away the rest of the fourth quarter. Brooklyn avoided the pass rush at every turn, getting rid of the ball on options and slinging it away safely on passes. She got a couple shoves, but never taken down to the turf. In fact, she'd remained clean all night thanks to the tireless work of the Cavsar O-line.

The drive got down into the red zone, then goal-to-go. The Skyhawk defense weren't going to go down so easily, though. Two straight stops led to 3rd and Goal from the 11 yard line (tackle for loss on a Lobo run). Brooklyn called for the third down snap and faced almost immediate pressure. She barely escaped the pocket and had to roll to the left, far from ideal, and threw the ball vaguely in Julian’s direction out of the end zone. Once again she avoided the sack, but frustrations boiled over for Clark Luciano who's been chasing her. Luciano kept running after Brooklyn released the throwaway and shoved her hard down to the turf. The crowd erupted in outrage a second before the flags came out, then it switched to elation. Brooklyn took the hit relatively clean, sliding to a stop on the turf before popping back up.

“Can't do that, Clark!” Brooklyn waggled a finger at Luciano wearing a savage grin. “Thanks for the free downs, jackass!”

The unnecessary roughness call put Cavsar on the five with a new set of downs, and this time they wouldn't be denied. The very next play, Brooklyn kept the ball on a read option and powered into the end zone behind a couple blocks to score a potential game-tying touchdown. Potential tie was due to the pending two-pointer, but Brooklyn made it happen. Much of Sadeg State's attention was rightfully on Julian for this pivotal snap, but instead Brooklyn just fired the ball into the chest of the tight end Marlin to tie the ballgame.

The best part of this drive? Sadeg State had less than two minutes to respond. The score was level at 23, so a field goal could be deadly, but the Cavsar defense was up for the task. They allowed State to get yards up the middle and burn their remaining timeouts and clock, but ultimately State couldn't get into field goal range for Wolfe. The drive stalled at the Cavsar 45 yard line as time nearly expired, if not for Harper spiking the ball with a second left.

The Skyhawks were left with one snap. Far too long for a field goal try. It was down to a hail mary, the last-ditch chance to stick it to Brooklyn and slap Cavsar with a loss in their home opener. Brooklyn watched with trepidation on the sideline. How many times had she sweated out the last snap of a Cavsar vs Sadeg State game from there? On the opposite sideline, sure, but standing with no chance to change the final score herself? Thankfully she had overtime to look forward to, but that didn't make this kind of play any more fun.

With the crowd in Roy Memorial roaring as loud as it had all game, Reed Harper took the snap and waited it out. Cavsar only rushed three, the rest deep near the end zone to prevent a miracle. Jace Phoenix had two guys on him in addition to the safeties over everyone deep. No way they'd let the star receiver get a clean look. Eventually Harper ran out of time, the receivers reaching the end zone, and he threw up the moonball.

Brooklyn watched with everyone else as the ball went up. She traced the ball’s arc to see it's landing spot, a gaggle of Skyhawks and Gladiators creating a throng in that landing area. Hands went up as the ball fell to its target … but nobody got a handle on it. The ball bounced once, then twice, then finally a Gladiator got a hand over to swat it down. The ball shot out sideways towards the field … and into the waiting arms of Phoenix. Jace snagged the rebound and dove forward to make sure he was over the goalline. The stadium turned into a madhouse. The Skyhawks on the field broke into a frenzy, half of them converging to mob Jace while the rest started sprinting around the field in excitement. The refs confirmed the score was final. 29-23, no need for a point after because the clock was empty. Sadeg State had stolen the win.

Brooklyn shook her head on the sideline, a rueful smile forming on her face. Of course it'd be some bullshit like that.

Rhinos repeat as regular season champions, led by a defense conceding less than fourteen points a game and a dominant rushing attack. The Battle Angels eke past the Anacondas to make the Conference Championship Game, their defense taking a step forward; the Anacondas' defense will have to step it up in the playoffs. Urrhed High School's offense was the reason they went 5-5, while the Riflemen were happy enough to be in fifth place. To see the Blue and White this low is a shock, but Kacper Grenda and company can get hot.

Take a bow, Kirsi-Marja Sibelius. The Quarterback finally leads the Red Devils to the promised land, scoring about thirty-four points a game. The Robots won many a close game to make it to the Conference Title Game, while the Regiment did rather well by finishing 5-5. West Omnio and Franscseca Larriet-Cortes played similar seasons while the Dread faltered once again.
Firehawks Edge Past Cadets to Secure Conference Championship Game Berth

For Three Quarters, the Silver Coast State College Cadets kept the high-octane Firehawks' offense in check. Silver Coast State College's running attack was wearing down on Mountain District's defense, and they were ahead 13-6. Nicolas Berg was being harried to no end, the running game was struggling, and they were being pushed around.

They clicked into a new gear in the Fourth Quarter. Berg started to be a bit more active in the pocket, the receivers stepped up, and the Offensive Line shifted into a new gear. Putting together back-to-back long drives, the Firehawks completed drives of eighty-three and sixty-four yards each to take control of the game and earn a berth in the Conference Championship Game.

Berg went thirteen-of-fifteen for one hundred thirty-three yards in that Fourth Quarter, finding Pia Solem and Nora Fauske for the touchdowns. Freya Odinsdóttir added three tackles for loss and a sack in the Quarter to help the defense along.

So far, it's only been the Cavsar University Gladiators that have tripped up this version of the Mountain District University Firehawks. They'll have a game against bottom feeders Llangliff University to get things right before that fateful game, probably against the Gladiators.

Not bad for a first season with Nicolas Berg under center.

Lava Drop Sixth Game, Coaching Staff in Danger

Jair Lleyamana went 10 of 15 for 201 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 213 yards on 20 carries, but the Laav defense let down their star Quarterback as Drawk Corps University scored forty to defeat them at home. The Quarterback did literally everything he could, but with the Lava defense playing as bad as they did, they fell to 3-6.

Facing Silver Coast State College last, there is talk that the Lava will clean house if they have a losing season. Their Out-of-Conference schedule is also brutal, but there is no denying the fact that Candy Vogel and Laverna Getz have let the team down. The Laval Wall haven't been able to generate the pressure needed and this secondary is simply not good enough.

Will they be able to save their jobs? How will things change for Staramara Tech if they don't?

Hellcats Clip Skyhawks to Improve to 6-3

Down a point with three minutes left in the game, Darius Holliday took to the field knowing that a field goal would take the game for Z'ai'ai Institute of Technology. The Skyhawks had actually kept Saralynn Pomme and the deep passing game under wraps, only allowing a single touchdown and less than 250 yards for the Hellcats. Thankfully, the Hellcat defense had stepped up this time around to keep them in the game, forcing a turnover on downs and a turnover.

Finding Cody Whitman on a seam route on third and three from the thirty-one, the Hellcats made it to midfield. A sack dropped them back, but a pump fake gave Pomme a second that she needed to make up for it, getting the ball to the forty-three. An incompletion dropped the Hellcats behind schedule, but Holliday wasn't done.

On second and nine from the forty-three with a minute and a half left, he rolled to the left and found Aki Kaoru in between two defenders to put them within field goal range. The Skyhawks started to take their time outs, but two runs later, Holliday would find Trevor McCall dropping into the flat to get the final first down needed to run the clock down.

With three seconds remaining, Victoria Anderson took to the field and with one swing of her leg, sent the Hellcats to another win over a Drawkian team, a win over Drawk Corps away from making it a sweep.

Is there anyone that is playing better than them at the moment?

The odds of them making the Championship Game is very slim, but the resilience they've shown after starting 1-3 has to be appreciated. Pomme, Holliday, and the others are turning in some good work.

Postby Katzeburg » Sun Oct 19, 2025 1:40 pm

Even underneath the rocking bleachers of Circle Park, the noise was almost deafening. The capacity crowd had packed into the ground incredibly early ahead of the final home game of the season for the University of Aberstadt Ducks, and with the school's fight song blasting from speakers across the ground, you could almost be forgiven for hearing it all the way up Lake Aber in Abersee itself.

It was in this cacophony of sound and noise which the Ducks found themselves seated beneath, the loud bass notes drumming through the walls and into the team locker room. The team had done all they could up to this point - a debut season which had gone well beyond even the wildest expectations to date, but with a result tonight against Northern Moravica University, everything could change for the Ducks.

Head Coach Geraint Short tapped his fingers on the small table he was resting against, beating along with the core notes of the school's fight song as around him, the team went about their final preparations before heading out onto the field for the most important game of the season to date. His preparations had been a little rocked by that radio interview which had wormed its way from Banija over to Katzeburg; the interview in which Horace Horton loudly proclaimed that he was going to guide NMU to a win against the Ducks and the result was all but written in the stars already.

A junior member of Short's coaching team entered the room and nodded in the direction of the coach. It was time. Geraint pushed himself up from the table and clapped his hands loudly, trying to bring the room to attention.

"Alright fellas - everybody looking over here at me for a moment!"

The team fell to a quick silence. If there was one thing which had galvanised the team so far in their debut NSCF season, it was the power of Geraint Short to pull everyone together with some heart-warming words at just the right moment. Here, it would be needed more than ever before.

"I want y'all to look around. At your team-mates. At your lockers. This is home for us. There ain't no other stadium in the world like Circle Park. That field just outside these doors? That grass which has been so lovingly tendered by Gladys and Doris, our two groundskeepers who do a bang-up job despite being older than a Tapestry in Katzestadt Castle - Every blade of it, every inch of it, is ours.

"Out there is a packed crowd, filled to the brim with people who are here for one thing and one thing only - you. All of you. They are the ones who believe in you. The ones who have been here from the start, not just this season, but all the way back to the very first moment you picked up a football. They're here tonight because they believe."

Some of the team were nodding in agreement. Short walked over to one of the walls in the locker room, which had recently been decorated by a huge blow-up of the transcript of Horton's interview and statement. He pointed at the wall.

"Now we all know what Horton said. 'A nice story'. That they're in a 'different weight class' than us. Heck, he even gave us a little guidance on where to stick his nice little quote. Something we were only more than happy to oblige."

Chuckles started to echo around the room as Short showed off the quote with a flash of hands before walking into the centre of the locker room.

"Now I don't know about you, but he sounds like a fella who has a whole lotta confidence, but maybe not enough humility. You see, he thinks this is a done deal - that we're a cute little footnote in the grand history of Horace Horton and NM-freaking-U. He thinks that we're going out there to make him look good and help him stat-pad. Well, I've got news for that young man, and everyone else who thinks we don't belong at this level.

"This ain't over 'til it's over - He thinks just because he plays for a big-name school, he can come into our home and treat it like a museum where he can see the sights and enjoy himself. But this ain't a museum. It's a gosh-darn fortress. He wants us to put up his quote? That's fine - but when you look at this," he said, pointing to the wall again, "I don't want you to see the confidence of a man who thinks he's the best thing since a Chesterforth Pie. I want you to see his disrespect for our home, this programme, and those out there who are about to lose their voices cheering you on.

"He said he's gonna get a touchdown and NMU will win. That is a guarantee built on quicksand. And we're gonna topple it. For you see, it tells me he's looking past you. Past us. He's so focused on getting his name in the headline, he's forgetting about people like Maurie, people like Will, people like Thad-Freaking-Sadler - you beautiful, talented, stubborn defenders who are going to teach him just what a Katzeburgian defence looks like."

Geraint stopped for a moment, and let the noise of the crowd above them wash over the room. The loud echoes and stomps of the crowd, demanding the Ducks to come out and play their best.

"You hear that?" he said, point up to the roof. "That's the people who aren't here to see just a 'nice story'. That's your parents, your friends, your entire school. They're here to see us. To see an earthquake which will shake the conference to the core. When you go through that door in a moment, let the noise hit you like the wave it is, and swing it right back at 'em. Play with that fury of a team with something to prove and the comfort of doing it right in front of our home fans.

"For it's not just Horace Horton who thinks we don't belong - it's all the established schools in this competition who think they're better than us. The Ranorians, the Drawks - heck, even the Quebecois thought we weren't going to hit the ground running before we came to them and kicked them in the behind. They all think we're not in their 'weight class' - but I don't see that. I just see our squad against theirs. One jersey against another. And if they think football is just history and brand size - they're going to be sore tomorrow."

The team nodded more rapidly in approval. The atmosphere in the room was rising to bursting point in the most important team talk Geraint Short has done in his career to date, and he was about to hit the crescendo.

"When we go out there - let this quote be the spark under your cleats. We're gonna hit 'em. And we're gonna hit 'em hard and often. And every time you look across that scrimmage line, remember those words - that you're not in his weight class. Because today, we're going to match them. And beat them. They have the prediction behind them, but we have the plan.

"Tonight, we show them the only size that matters is the fight you bring when you're in your own home. That the 'nice story' is about to be one hell of a headache for NMU. Let's get out there and show why we deserve to be in the conference championship!"

The team roared in approval as one - leaping to their feet energised with nothing more than pure rage and desire to win. As they stormed out of the locker room and towards the field, Geraint rested back against the table and let out a heavy sigh of relief. He had done his part - he just had to hope the cosmos favoured the Ducks from here.

A Survey of Academy League Coaches on the Best Graduating Prospects

10. Andreas Bøthun - 6'4" 220 lbs - Viborg Academy - Defensive Tackle
Sometimes all you need is a strong, big body in the middle who is hard to move from their position to help clog up a lane. Andreas is that immovable object in the middle of a defensive line and that opposing coordinators make sure that they are running on the other side of the line away from. Lacks some of the finesse that you would want from a day one starter but if you are looking for that unique ultra strong big man of a Vanorian who demands double teaming and scheming around, Andreas is exactly what you are looking for.

9. Aksel Iversen - 6'2" 212 lbs - Marius Academy - Tight End
A strong and dependable receiver at the tight end position is a thing that many quarterbacks dream of, being a nice safety net if the wide outs end up being covered down field. That is exactly the sort of player that Aksel is, he is not going to blow you away with any top end speed but it is going to take more than one person to bring him down once he gets a head of steam, That strength and agility also comes in handy in the running game as he is great at sealing the edge on runs out wide or in plays that use a lot of presnap motion to try and confuse the defense on what might be coming. All in all, a good and dependable player who wont wow you with brilliance but does all the things you ask him to do at a solid, consistent level.

8. Laura Eriksen (F) - 6'1" 194 lbs - Holmgren Academy - Quarterback
Decently tall and deceptively strong, Laura is a dual threat quarterback who prefers to take the ball down and run with it than to stay in the pocket and progress through her reads. If an offensive coordinator or quarterback coach can get her to be more of a passer and use her legs to extend plays rather than just being a runner, there is some potential there. Yet coaching out those natural tendencies and getting her to be more accurate on passes on the run as well as over twenty yards down field looks to be quite the obstacle for a coaching staff to overcome.

7. Iben Tveita (F) - 5'11" 189 lbs - Marius Academy - Wide Receiver
While she is a number one wide out with Marius, her lack of good route running or significant height does not do her any favors when projecting to the NSCF level. What you have though is a deceptively strong speedster who can get behind defenses as if it was going out of style and it is difficult to teach the sort of speed that she has in her locker. She also like to return kicks and punts, returning one each for a touchdown this past Academy League season and it may be on special teams where she will earn her playing time and opportunities for the offense later.

6. Håkon Alvestad - 6'2" 198 lbs - Holmgren Academy - Safety
A rangey safety who would probably be a lock down corner if he was only a little faster. What he does have is a great positional awareness and the ability to ready what the opposing offenses are scheming up, often calling out coverage audibles to the rest of the defense thanks to his great play recognition abilities. Probably needs to add a little bit of bulk to be a bit more of a sure tackler in the secondary but it is easier to improve that than try to teach someone his intangible ability to read opposing offense like a book.

5. Niklas Husby - 5'11" 196 lbs - Magnus Academy - Wide Receiver
Not the tallest wide out there is, though Husby does have an impressive vertical and is often catching jump balls at their highest point. Good hands that catch the ball rather than take it to the body, he does struggle though in getting off a good release when pressed at the line of scrimmage. Projects more as a slot receiver or number two target than true wide receiver one, unless he is able to work on the deficiencies in his game over the next year or so.

4. Nikolai Pedersen - 5'10" 185 lbs - Magnus Academy - Cornerback
Nikolai is your prime example of a player who has all the tools to be an elite wide receiver with great speed, a good vertical, and amazing route running. The problem is he has pretty awful hands, more useful for swatting away passes than they were at pulling them in, which does mean that he is not likely to come up with a lot of interceptions whenever he hits the field. However he turns his half of the field into a lock down area and is smart enough and talented enough to play one on one or in a zone coverage or for those rare corner blitzes with the speed to close the distance before the ball is out of the quarterback's hands.

3. Leander Tengesdal - 6'0" 210 lbs - Magnus Academy - Edge
While not quite on the same caliber of physical specimen or raw talent as Abel Hammer from the class before, Tengesdal is cut from the same sort of mold. A shifty edge who has the speed and finesse to be a threat on any passing play either coming off the edge as a blitzer or dropping back into zone coverage or as a quarterback spy. Is a very good student and is looking for a school to attend that has good academics, wanting the safety net of a job outside of gridiron if playing sport does not end up panning up and getting him to the professional level.

2. Olander Wiik - 6'0" 200 lbs - Magnus Academy - Linebacker
A defensive quarterback and an individual with very clear demonstrable leadership qualities, on top of being an exceptionally well talented player. A good range of motion and decent speed for a backer, which allows him to play in coverage better than you would expect, the lack of good hands probably the biggest thing that kept him from playing on offense as a tight end. Loves to come on a blitz and is known for not giving up on a play, chasing down ball carriers even if they are on the other side of the field.

1. Christian Lilletvedt - 6'0" 181 lbs - Magnus Academy- Quarterback
A do it all quarterback who has the speed to be a running threat, the arm strength to launch it down field, and the accuracy to fit it into tight windows that you would not believe was possible. Chris, as his family and friends call him, has all the tools that make offensive coordinators drool and look to get creative with all the plays that they can run with him as the signal caller. With nearly three thousand passing yards, another three hundred forty-two rushing, with twenty-eight passing touchdowns and four rushing, all while only giving up three interceptions, he is the ready made package. There is a strong belief that there is still room to grow and while he is likely to be good enough to cause competition for a starting job on day one, he does seem willing to redshirt or sit behind someone a year to continue to polish his game.

That one's on me guys. I'd like to take a moment to formally apologize to Craig Kelly, I wasn't familiar with your game. We all started to think he'd lost his touch last week because he allowed the Dhemixian masses to have something they've never truly obtained before: Hope™. It is at least a little refreshing to know that the Possession Philanthropist is back to producing his magnum opus every single week and quickly nipping any positive thought of UC-Prairie at the bud.

It truly takes generational talent in the highly contested field of Possession Philanthropy to sell the game that you absolutely HAVE to win as bad as Craig Kelly did with as good of a QB as Larry Cunningham is. In all honesty, the choke is really only matched by that of the countless heartbreakers from both the entire nation of Drawkland in international competition and also Richardson, ignoring the fact that they're actively in the Beight CCG and also have two prior NSCF titles because it's convenient to my narrative. Ring check these nuts @FormerHalfDeadbeatMom.

Really though, when you put it into perspective, Craig Kelly's comeback choke dwarfs most of the others that Drawkland and Richardson succumb to. You'd have to combine the two in some twisted, unholy way to squeeze that much more failure out of a football program. Even then, it's not like the result's going to be a guy who just so happens to be from Drawkland and is also on Richardson's coaching staff right there for an easy Craig Kelly comp. Man(lio), Craig Kelly really does find a way to produce incomparable results every single time he touches a sideline, doesn't he? It's a shame we'll never be able to truly compare this level of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory to any real scalable mark.

It's Brad Manlio. The joke is that the answer is Brad Manlio. Craig Kelly is the living embodiment of what would happen if a team were to trust Brad at the helm of their program. Don't worry, he's Drawkian, we're collectively allowed to pick on him.

The problem with Craig Kelly doing a Craig Kelly for the first time in a while again is that, from this, arises good news and bad news.

Good news: UCP closes the season at The Brig against 0-9 Delino State. If Craig Kelly manages to find a way to generationally fumble the bag here, the AD's gonna have to find a way to fortify the Athletics Office like the Ottomans are besieging Vienna again and there's no Winged Hussars coming to save them. In the highly likely event of his efforts being unsuccessful, Craig Kelly's just dead, which when you think about it, it may actually be more of a positive than it seems.

Bad news: The Jays do not control their own destiny and have a chance to miss the Mineral CCG for the first time since Craig Kelly's inaugural season over 5 cycles ago. With a win, they'd need one of Trent State or UNSJJSM to win against Raynor or St. Paulus respectively.

As the first time they've needed someone else to win for them to be in, don't expect much from the Jays. Then again, they beat Baker Park in the NSCF 30 CCG as HEAVY underdogs, so who knows what'll happen on the doorstep for the Blue Jays when they need a miracle.
It's empty.

Important Notes
1- Chronologically, this season would have occurred before WB LI/NSCF34.
2- all those rules favoring the passing game - those aren’t a thing here. Hard hitting safeties and linebackers are at a premium, making the middle of the field a dangerous place to throw, roughing the passer calls are few and far between, and defensive backs are often given a bit of leeway with their physicality prior to the catch.
4- Expect significantly lower average passing numbers than in the NFL. In 70+ seasons, the RFL has had six 4,700+ yard seasons, three 5,000+ yard passing seasons, and nine 40+ passing TD seasons. By comparison, there have been 15 5,000+ yard seasons in the NFL and 19 NFL seasons of 40+ passing touchdowns. Please keep this in mind if your players - particularly QBs, WRs, or TEs, aren’t having the production you’d expect.
5- also as a result of this, running backs take on a greater role and the average rushing numbers are higher. 2,000+ yards is still a rarity.
6- I'm not committed to any more heavily RP'd seasons, but the league will hopefully continue to run as long as I have those foreign players who were in place as of 2035-2036 cycle at the very least. This is a lot and I've only got so much time.

7- Same as the last few seasons, but critical to point out - huge shoutout to South Newlandia for all the help he gives and time he commits to this project. Wouldn't be able to score the divisions without him (not correctly anyway) and everyone's favorite elefriend is a whizz with the google sheets so that I can pick out individual regular season games to RP, which I basically never did before. That lets me go way more in depth for the regular season. Win streaks, etc. cuz I promise I didn’t ever do that before looking at full week’s worth of scores. The RFL is just as much his project as it is mine at this point, and it's so much more enjoyable with the collaboration there. This is a collaborative effort between the elephant and Ranoria, please grade accordingly.
8- Ages are going to be off pretty frequently from the TL's of the user's players, it happens, most of us have a different timeline per cycle and there's not much I can do about that. 2 RFL seasons happen per cycle.
9- Since the years are getting way beyond what I like for an MT/slight PMT nation, moving to just what the elephant's been using to label them, so this'll be season 8 of elephant helpfulness

RFL Season 8, Where Things Are Certainly Fine

Starting with the National Conference for once...

National North:
Fermete Marauders: 10-6
Rouyoute Aurora Knights: 10-6
Eglise Mountaineers: 9-7
Herot Paladins: 6-10
Wow, so what happened here?

After three straight 20+ interception seasons to start his career, Paul Shepherd's team finally decided to see if maybe getting him some help could be the key to helping him be good at professional football. So they got a couple of edge rushers, veterans Gordon Dean and Julian Anneliese, plus a couple offensive linemen in Chris Grey and Guenther Ellis.

Now they're still completely bereft of targets, but with not quite as much pressure on him and an offensive line that wasn't completely composed of congealed dogwater, Shepherd had a pretty respectable season. Rowles and co would get the best of them in a pivotal week one matchup, with the Aurora Knights dominating in the Elysium. It was a 25-0 win for Rouyoute, and resulted in instant doubts as to the Marauders' chances of building around Shepherd. Fortunately, they turned it around. Shepherd would go on to lead his team to win five of their next six, including a rematch against those Aurora Knights in Fermete. This time, they dominated, putting up 43 points while Julian Anneliese and crew racked up a combined four sacks of Rowles.

But the finish was perhaps most impressive. A three game winning streak, scoring 26+ in all three games and allowing just one touchdown in three games, with no team scoring more than 7 on them. The Marauders finally looked like they were living up to their name. Meanwhile at 10-6, the Aurora Knights were on the borderof the playoff ... will the rest of the league let them in?

Meanwhile, the Herot Paladins continue to waddle in mediocrity with no quarterback. Technically Killian Knight is on the roster, but that's almost less than having no quarterback, so he doesn't really come off the sideline very often. No one's sure why he still has a job, some think when their unnamed and irrelevant starter sometimes gets hurt, the HC thinks it'll be easier to defend having such a bad record if he's fielding Killian.

Eglise, meanwhile, is struggling. Swinging on Shirinna Lehmann was a mistake and Chromatik wideout Demetrius St Pierre has been good, but not good enough to hide her deficiencies.

National Coastal:
New Quebec Fighters: 9-7
Fiston Redwolves: 7-9
Port Kruger Phalanx: 5-11
North Ashialand Dreadnaughts: 2-14
Maybe the softest division in the league this season. With the recent three time champion Fiston Redwolves still fielding former MVP Lane Proudfoot, they're always in it, but maybe not this time. Because one of the two most important games of the season came in week one against the New Quebec Fighters and Ernest Bello. Between Quebecois Jean-Christophe Provost and Saint Kanye man Josh Laney-Seymour, Bello has targets. Helene Lindbaum and Rebecca Reischel, both Quebecois, anchor the offensive line and the front seven, respectively. And Shean Eckert, a veteran Delaclav speed rusher, is always ready to provide some juice. The Redwolves, meanwhile, are in a bit of a reloading phase as HC Reinhardt Collier calls it.

Wideout William Carey out of Kohnhead and GOAT defensive end Gideon Kearse are both 35. Jack Hoy is gone. Proko's been gone. And Lane Proudfoot just hasn't been the same since that tear of winning the World Bowl, an MVP, and a few Winter Bowls. That meant that in week one, they'd drop it 19-16, with Ernest Bello breaking a tackle, escaping the pocket, and hitting Laney-Seymour in the corner of the end zone to win it. And when the teams faced off again in Fiston, there was at least more scoring, and this time, Proudfoot had the ball on the final drive, down 33-31. With the goal of getting into field goal range, he came out, took a sack, picked up one first down, and then threw an errant pass over the middle that got picked off. His team would finish 7-9 while the Fighters won the division with just nine wins. The other two squads were pretty awful. The Port Kruger Phalanx have hitched their wagons to Richard Dennison on a six year deal, and he was a drop away from having multiple six interception games this season. They do have Hezekiah Thomas and Malachi Mauigoa, both monstrous human beings at TE and OT, but they are currently useless in this offense. But at least they're not the Dreadnaughts, who are squandering the careers of DE Trevyon Specter, Eric Modin, and Maverick Lee.

After the Redwolves were eliminated from the playoffs in week 15, reporters hounded Proudfoot at the podium. In the three seasons now since winning the MVP, he's been in a slump. The team has been 35-29 in the four years since, making the playoffs thrice (twice at 8-8) and winning just one game there. For Proudfoot's part, he's gone from a star to mediocre, throwing 113 touchdowns against 60 interceptions and has cleared thirty five hundred yards just once. This is a former MVP, a guy who's been in five and won three Winter Bowls, a World Bowl champion even. What's going on? There are rumors swirling even of Gideon Kearse becoming a cap casualty if he isn't willing to renegotiate his insanely expensive contract following an eight sack season.

"Just playing my game," Lane said to reporters after that contest, "You've all seen what I can do. Especially you," he pointed to the reporter who asked the question, then winked at her. "I'm sure we'll be back on top in no time. But no, I'm not getting complacent," he muttered something under his breath while covering the mic, "I'm just as focused on football as I've ever been, and you have my word I'll continue to give my best each and every Sunday."

Fans can take heart, though. After the recent run of dominance (and consistent playoff success for a decade or so prior) of the team, they've had their fill of glory...and more is promised to come. Fiston's local high school teams have become some of the most dominant in the country, frequently sporting freakishly tall players. Sure, it won't matter on draft day. But in free agency? Fiston may have a pipeline to some freakishly tall players in a decade or so on that front.
National Central:
Ranoria City Silver: 13-3
Pittsburgh Ironmen: 12-4
Richardson Fenrirs: 8-8
Dietrich Dynamos: 3-13
Holy stacked - let's dig into this one.

The biggest star in this division, maybe in the sport, is of course Bobby Dials. He was very vocal about running this thing back one more time with his team before heading back to Cardenao, and he did not disappoint in his farewell tour, ripping off a dozen wins and easily securing a playoff berth. For the first nine weeks of the season, his Ironmen were unscathed, and in five of those games Bobby's offense ripped off 30+ points. Along with rookie running back Malik Starcevich, the team looked downright unstoppable, even if Malik's football IQ seems to have deteriorated over the course of his thousand-plus-carry-tenure at RIchardson University. Banijan tight end Mugisha Mulogo was an absolute terror at tight end. He had a great offensive line including Dagan veteran Brian Shipman, and Quebecois men Frederic Benn-KIcian and Eden Park made a vicious duo on the defensive line.

But they had a team nipping on their heels - the Ranoria City Silver. After a week one loss to the Richardson Fenrirs, they'd been on fire as well. Sheila Pantoja was playing some of the most efficient football of her career, rivaling even her final season prior to coming to the Silver. Sure, the arm wasn't quite there anymore, but she was hyper-efficient on third downs and in the red zone. So they hosted the Ironmen on an 8 game win streak and the two best teams in the league drew the most views of any regular season game this season. Bobby Dials started hot, hitting Mugisha Mulogo for two touchdowns in the first quarter to take an early 14-0 lead, but the Silver held on for dear life, slowly working their way back into it. And damn did Bobby get cold. A defense loaded with Chromatik national teamers showed up. Nicole Manstrom pinned her ears back. Gerard Bullion made a couple plays in the run game, and Kerron Nicholas, the six foot eight Richardson alumn, met Malik Starcevich in the hole again and again and again. At 14-9 in the third quarter, a muffed return put the Silver inside their own two, and Sheila Pantoja took a one step drop, then had to pull the ball up when her man was covered. She went to roll and throw it away, but that was all the time Benn-Kocian needed, and she was buried in the end zone. The 35 year old Pantoja went down hard, and had to be helped off the field. 16-9 with Bobby getting the ball - this one was a wrap. If Pantoja's injury was serious, then maybe that was the case for the whole season.

But Takeuchi Ichiko showed up. Everyone knew Bobby Dials and HC Steve Valentine weren't gonna try and run this thing out. They wanted to put it on ice. Unfortunately for them, Ichiko stepped in front of a routine curl route, and all of a sudden there wasn't anyone within ten yards of the Chromatik corner, who sprinted out the back of the other end zone to tie this thing up.

Sheila Pantoja didn't come back in, and the Silver were content to play possession ball, giving Bobby just one fruitless drive in the fourth quarter, and punt to overtime.

And then miraculously, Sheila Pantoja ran back out. Her ankle was heavily taped, but her offense managed to answer the Ironmen field goal with one of their own. On the next drive, Bobby Dials again went for it all, evading Nicole Manstrom in the pocket and putting the ball on a rope to the 6'8" Mugisha Mulogo, a 25 yard touchdown on the very first play of the drive. Pantoja answered though, letting the run game guide them a bit closer, then hit Drew Street on a quick hitch to score again. Easy PAT... but they couldn't keep the momentum up, settling for three.

That gave Bobby Dials a chance to win the whole thing on this drive. Things started off well, with a quick slant to Mulogo ending in a fifteen yard completion. Things didn't end well for them. When Bobby dropped back on his next snap, Nicole Manstrom completely beat the guard on a stunt, and Bobby tried to hurry the throw, only for Kerron Nicholas to snatch it right out of the air. Ballgame, 29-26 in triple overtime.

The Ironmen were no longer undefeated. Unfortunately for the Ironmen, that started a 2-4 skid. So by the time they faced the Silver again in week 17, there was nothing to play for. The Silver had the first seed locked up, and the Ironmen the fifth. So the backups reigned supreme, and we got a meaningless 10-0 Ironmen win...but imagine how hype a week 17 game for the division would've been.

National West:
Edmunton Eagles: 11-5
Yellowknife Wraiths: 6-10
Menagerie Pioneers: 6-10
Brittany Walruses: 5-11
Blake Zuercher continues to dominate his division. Every year the Eagles seem to throw up at least ten wins against a division that just simply can not seem to account for the BYU grad. Blake did miss a game for the second straight year - a 45-17 loss to the Aurora Knights late in the year - but even a bit hobbled he came back to throw four touchdowns in two weeks and win the final two games of the year to finish 11-5. Notably, Myles Davis took almost all the carries this season, and it looks like Kohnhead veteran Elliot Roach has finally run out of steam, and along with it this backfield duo.

Genuinely the only interesting player on another team in this division is Dante Flowers who, in year two, had zero help. The Wraiths franchise man led the team to an exciting win over the Eagles in week 1, a win that saw Blake Zuercher lead his team to tie the game up after trailing 20-10 at one point, only for Flowers to lead a game winning drive to take it home, 27-20. And he'd actually start the season 3-1 with dominant performances in a 47-7 win over the Pioneers and a 34-3 win over the Marauders, all at home. Unfortunately, after that, the lack of a single other sentient player on the team factor came into play, and the Wraiths would win just three more games all season.

Ranoria City Silvers: 13-3
Edmunton Eagles: 11-5

Fermete Marauders: 10-6
New Quebec Fighters: 9-7

Pittsburgh Ironmen: 12-4
Rouyoute Aurora Knights: 10-6

Ranorian Conference

Ranorian Heartland:
Ranoria City Falcons: 10-6
Berlin Snow Bears: 9-7
Mariana Tigers: 7-9
Balafre Bootleggers: 6-10
In year three of 3x Winter Bowl champion Damien Giles' tenure, this offense finally clicked. Sarai Gwenderyn was going into her age 40 season. She couldn't sit in the pocket and wait for every deep shot in the world to develop. They had to be all about efficiency, and they managed it this time around. The Silverman brothers feasted, boxing out defensive backs on curls and slants galore. Constantina Perrier was more of a big play threat than she'd been in years, Gwenderyn was avoiding turnovers, and now the offense that had limited mistakes was netting big plays. Gwenderyn completed 70% of her passes, something only Bo Callahan and John Garrett (3x) had achieved prior, and really, this team's greatest strength was in the red zone. For the fourth time in her career, she led the league in touchdown passes, and for the third time hit forty passing scores. She'd already cleared the RFL's records for passing yards and touchdowns, and only added onto her leads there with a downright dominant season.

SMBG was perfect inside the 20, completing over 80% of her passes and throwing 30 of her league-leading 40 passing scores from the red area. And if for some reason they weren't relying on their veteran quarterback's vision, the Falcons leaned heavily on running back Benjamin Merik once they really got closer to the end zone, the Chromatik bruiser scoring sixteen times on the ground this season. But she had one performance that was just downright vile. Disgusting, war crime tier stuff.

When Jerry Atkinson and the Nashville Sabercats came to Ranoria City in week 8 on Sunday Night, Gwenderyn had one of the greatest performances in professional gridiron history. The Falcons had something to prove, and it started with an opening-play 75-yard screen touchdown to big Benjamin Merik, who got a head of steam before breaking three tackles en route to the score. A quick three and out later, and Gwenderyn launched a bomb fifty yards in the air to Earl Silverman, who fell down at the six before she hit his brother Enox on a quick fade for another score. Constantina Perrier made good with it on the fourth play and first pass of the next drive, taking a comeback route back inside and going all the way for the third passing score of the day. Things largely proceeded the same way until halftime, when the Falcons took a 49-21 lead over the Sabercats, who's allegedly professional defense looked completely helpless.

In front of a national audience, Gwenderyn and company would score on two more consecutive drives, with the Chromatik legend adding two more touchdown passes to her tally that night to tie the all-time RFL record with seven before calling it a night, up 63-21. She finished the game with 7 touchdowns and nearly five hundred passing yards with just three incompletions, and really, with just over twenty minutes left, she could've padded her stats if she'd ever been interested in that - but she never was that kind of passer.

Instead, the backups of both teams took the field, and the game ended up at 81-30 in favor of the Falcons.

In a division long known for its competitive play, the Falcons went 3-3, splitting with each of their rivals, but they alone emerged the victor on the strength of their other games, finishing 10-6 thanks to the best offense in the RFL. It was tight up to the finish - with three games left to play, they were tied at 7-6 with the reigning champion Berlin Snow Bears. The Snow Bears had been a little sleepy to start the season - bears need to hibernate you see, and that deep championship run meant they were still a little eepy. They'd lost their first three and ended up starting the season 1-5. Fingers were being pointed and some were even considering chopping off some fingies on accident. But they put up a heroic effort, pitching a shutout to start a run that would at least give them a fighting shot thanks to Alani Sorens, Patil, and Dominick Ford playing the best football of their careers.

Unfortunately, eading to Madison to play Benoit Youngblood's Gladiators was a tall order for anybody, and when QB Gracelyn Jackson was asked to play shootout football, she put up an admirable fight. But even with a Dustin van Halfensen hat trick, they couldn't stop Beno's game winning drive, handing them their seventh loss.

Meanwhile in Ranoria City, Sarai Gwenderyn seemed hell bent on winning another championship, winning each of their last three games to vault them into the playoffs. Some of you might be thinking, what about Balafre? Just kidding, no you're not, they do not have fans. You're wondering about the Tigers! Well they did this weird thing called winning just two of their first nine games and those two wins came against Balafre so do they even really count?

No one's really sure what happened. Scott Yadav's handoffs were of legendary quality. Sure, Thomas Fantikos probably should be in a hospice, but he was getting quality handoffs. And one time backup quarterback Zachary Stevens even did something! (it was a sideline penalty). Some even wonder if Abdullah-Aadi Makavan's blocking might have been so good that it did that thing where you have a horseshoe where the extreme of either side ends in the same result.

Anyway, they weren't very good this time. Maybe try next year?

Ranorian Coastal
Sierraville Farmers: 12-4
Highport Hawks: 9-7
Munich Thrashers: 8-8
Victorsville Hurricane: 5-11
First of all, the fact that the completely gutted Highport Hawks even have a football team is news to some. Going 9-7? Just a complete joke. Meanwhile, Munich managed to win as many games as they threw the football, but Sierraville was the shocker. This team lost Rylan Rodgers Jr, one of the greatest athletes in sports, probably the best CB in football in Akhello Volson, and big Malchiel Lukiwiya, the Banijan Beast. RRJ went over to Busukuma to on with the gflb and LPB while Lukiwiya signed on with the Apollotown Sabers, where one of his countrymen plays. Akhello Volson dipped for another one in the Ranorian Central, the Nashville Sabercats. What was left was essentially Chromatik QB Isaiah Hunter, a couple of great tackles in Danny Knowles and Travis Handon, and South Newlandian CB Nicholas Hussein. Oh, and a rookie by the name of Derrick Dareus.

Somehow, the Farmers managed to string together a twelve win season. Isaiah Hunter, who'd been rumored to be on the way out, was basically being retained just because the team needed some continuity. And he turned in his best season as a pro, throwing 23 touchdowns, a career high thirty six hundred and some yards, and just two interceptions. Of course, that rookie back helped - leaning on former NT starter Travis Handon, Dareus carried the ball 355 times for 1675 yards and 16 touchdowns, giving this offense some major juice despite a few fumbles early in the year.

Good for an easy bye - the Farmers may have a future yet.

Ranorian North
Madison Gladiators: 11-5
Halifax Blizzard: 6-10
Vancouver Yeti: 6-10
Lafayette Crusaders: 4-12
it's still the Gladiators' division, but they were the cardiac kids this season. Benoit Youngblood and Raul Nieler's squad started the season 6-1, hitting 39+ points three times and just dropping one stinker in a 51-14 loss to Bobby Dials and the Pittsburgh Ironmen. Then it got a little tougher. 33-32 loss to the shockingly good Sierraville Farmers in a thriller - Isaiah Hunter led what should have been a game winning drive that ended in a QB sneak for a touchdown, only for Beno to hit three consecutive completions with just twenty seconds to play, the last going to big Nikolas Isaksen, who reeled the catch in for a game-tying touchdown. Then their notably Ranorian kicker did what kickers do, and the Farmers lived to fight another day.

After that, it was the juggernaut-esque Ranoria City Silver who downed them, 30-16. Then a literal-last-second punt return touchdown by the Vancouver Yeti sent them home with an L. Oh right, then Jerry Atkison put on an absolute masterclass, outgunning them in a 40-23 blowout in Nashville that saw the third year quarterback have a genuinely elite performance against an almost nonexistent Gladiators defense.

All of a sudden, their dream season had slipped to 6-5, but Beno wasn't done. The Quebecois superstar proceeded to usher a 17 point comeback against the Dietrich Dynamos to take it home in a 31-24 thriller in Madison. A trip to Lafayette ended with Beno scrambling, getting the edge on the defense, and running in a touchdown from six yards out to take the lead, 20-16. They trashed a 12-4 Apollotown team on the road, 33-17, then won two more games on game-winning drives by Youngblood to finish the season 11-5. Beno accounted for nearly all of the team's offensive touchdowns, and ushered in five game winning drives on the season to take the division crown once again.

The Lafayette Crusaders and Nick Singer, meanwhile, continue to struggle. The third year passer missed six games between an AC sprain and a stinger, and ownership has yet to realize the hero of Alexandria can't win the Winter Bowl all by his lonesome - something you'd have hoped they'd have learned by watching him quarterback for the Swordsmen for so long.

Ranorian Central
Apollotown Sabers: 12-4
Nashville Sabercats: 11-5
Memphis Steamers: 10-6
Indianapolis Hogs: 8-8
Is that the Ranorian Central coming in as the best division in football?

The Indianapolis Hogs managed an 8-8 record, led by an aging Park Mi-Hyeon and Jere Rinaldi, but when your offense is basically just chuck it to Calista Weathers and pray sometimes you can't win things. Meanwhile for the Memphis Steamers, things got a little complicated. Even being a championship contender, this team's just generally one that hovers around the ten to eleven win mark. Usually, that's not a problem besides the incredibly defensive Sabers. But with Max Stromberg departing for Valanora (with a litany of other players), all of a sudden Kualu Luani was without his RFL-best target. He still put up respectable numbers, but the offense sagged hard. Kasper Ulvestad led a strong defense...

But was it strong enough? The Apollotown Sabers, after losing hall of fame runner Zamandi Ayana, went all in on the defense. They signed the Banijan beast - DT Malchiel Lukiwiya. With Munanaire Tembo still lurking on the back end, Jared Ragnow filling out a strong top cornerback duo, and Rodney Knight playing centerfield, that defense had the secondary necessary to take advantage of Lukiwiya. And, of course, 3x WB Champion, Loyola-Istria's all-time leading pass rusher, former RFL DROY and 2x DPOY, and 2x Winter Bowl Champion Abram Fairbanks off the edge. Best defense in the league, usually. And of course, a new challenger. The Nashville Sabercats brought in Akhello Volson, perhaps the best corner in the world, to fill out a genuinely tough roster. Their interior offensive line blocks well for Chromatik runner Terrace Peterman. Ying Taggertis a stud at safety. But Jerry Atkinson is the straw that stirs this perhaps foul tasting drink in Nashville. With an FA signing Tanner Aurelio and an emergent Tank Conner at wideout, Atkinson has weapons, and he used them this season.

The Sabercats started slow. It happens when Jere Rinaldi racks up twelve tackles - ten either for no gain or a loss - against your leading rusher - and Park Mi-Hyeon guesses your ever move. The Sabercats season started with a 12-30 loss to the Hogs, which included a Mi-Hyeon pick six and fumble recovery for six off a strip sack from Rinaldi. After that though, things looked up. Jerry Atkinson's offense produced back-to-back 40 point games, then won a thriller against division rival Memphis Steamers. Things were looking up, and they were still in control of their own destiny, even with the Sabers looking unstoppable with Fairbanks rolling back the clock.

They got a crack against another recent champion in the Fiston Redwolves, and Jerry Atkinson stared into the abyss. Gideon Kearse, arguably the greatest Ranorian to ever play, across the line and Lane Proudfoot, a former World Bowl and 3x Winter Bowl champion, on the other sideline.

The abyss blinked. Jerry Atkinson shrugged off a first quarter Gideon Kearse pick-six to lead four straight scoring drives, three ending in touchdown passes, and ended up with a convincing win over the Fiston Redwolves. Got some revenge in a trip to Indianapolis, picking up a 16-7 win in which Atkinson showcased his growth as a quarterback. From his days at UCP of being allergic to handing the ball off outside the twenty, he executed thirty one immaculate handoffs to beat the Hogs, 16-7.

Anyway the team was hot. 6-1. Then they headed to Ranoria City to play the Falcons. Two starting national team quarterbacks. Sarai Gwenderyn in the twilight of her career, Jerry Atkinson on the come up if he hasn't already peaked which is entirely possible. The two teams played in one of the primetime games of all time, scoring an insane 111 total points and seeing the quarterbacks score a combined nine touchdowns. 81 & 7 of those were from the Falcons & Gwenderyn respectively, we'll let you do the math.

The hot start was definitely over, but the games against the Sabers were still crucial. They could still win this division. Just two weeks after that egregious blowout, the Sabers defense proved to be too much for Atkinson in a 21-19 loss, and in week 17 with the two teams tied at 11-4, both teams had the playoffs clinched. But seeding is huge here, and the division was on the line. And more than that, based on tiebreakers, the winner of this game would earn the playoff's first seed.

The loser? All the way down to fifth, one spot above Memphis in the divisional and playoff standings. Naturally, it was yet another primetime game.

Abram Fairbanks had racked up six sacks all season to this point, not bad for his age 36 season. But against the Sabercats and their essential lack of offensive tackles, he turned back the clock, burying Jerry Atkinson three times, once for a fumble six, to lead his defense's five sack effort and hold the Sabercats to three. Just enough to knock them down a peg and into second in the division. Fifth in the conference’s playoff seeding at 11-5.

A top ten offense was one helluva season - but in their biggest games of the year, the team was not in fact, clutch.
