This is a distinction without a difference. They are illegal because the process of becoming legal is so strenuous, expensive, and lengthy that it fails to meet the thresh hold for many people of being worth it. People migrate illegally because they perceive the benefits of doing so outweigh the costs. If illegal immigration is such a concern for you, then perhaps what we should be doing is not just sending more resources toward law enforcement, but making less law to enforce. An easier process, a larger and more efficient administration to do the processing, fewer barriers to entry and more resources available to get people into society and the economy as quickly as possible. Badda bing badda boom, you've made the benefits of legal migration outweigh the costs while also making a whole bunch of money for everybody.

Would love to center around this here. This is a great point I haven't really thought about. I've noticed asylum seekers and immigrants in the process of legalization being detained outside of courthouses and whatnot, but it is great to point out that the system of immigration is inherently flawed, not just in the United States but most places.

New Zealand would've been my family's backup plan if things truly gone to shit we can't persevere through since we know people personally who live there but we just found out they don't take foreigners with autism, don't want anyone with "complex conditions" on universal healthcare.

This all depends on the scale of immigration, I'm not opposed to housing immigrants or refugees but rather movements towards large scale immigration which would shake entire industries in the long run, also migrants are a choice, the native population isn't.

Choice or not the economic benefit is the same.

History proves you wrong. There have been larger migration waves in the past and the result has been economic boom, not bust. Despite the repeated reactionary nativist resentment that bubbles up with every movement. They were wrong in 1820, they were wrong in 1899, they were wrong in 1920, they were wrong in 1960, they were wrong in 1985, 1999, 2015, and the nativists are wrong yet again today.

Immigrants did not come in huge mass movements, and rather did so over the course of decades, of course GDP increases with a larger population set, but my main point is that public industries are weakened and the population as a whole becomes poorer, in the short term if immigrants are used as a quick economic fix or mass immigration is allowed, congrats, you have an entire extra population, who will essentially become low skilled workers due to corporate entities and be a strain on infrastructure.
