Somebody, anybody… why is “Wokeness” supposed to be bad?

At this point, it’s fairly clear what a democratic definition of wokeness is- a Republican buzzword that is slightly derogatory, has little-to-no-real-definition, and is used to define anyone or anything that is against right-wing policies or for left-wing policies. It comes from being “awake” to the problems in the world that need solving, to which many (but not all) right-wingers say, “Go to sleep!”

I would love it if those who have a different definition than what I have collated above could state theirs. I’m all ears.

The term "woke" is usually a generic "this thing bad" word by people that want to say they don't like something while not explaining why they don't like it.

Sometimes there really isn't a deeper meaning other than "I don't like it." Sometimes it's due to "I disagree with some or all of the (usually "progressive") values present in this thing." And sometimes it's "The way this thing goes about it's message is way too over the top, to the point of feeling unnecessary, in your face, or to a ridiculous extent."

An example of the first situation might be something like a guy saying X game is woke and refusing to elaborate. The second might be a person who disagrees with an idea brought up by a TV show, but doesn't actually say why they disagree. The third might be someone saying something like "This show beats you over the head with it's themes and morals that it feels more like an ad or PSA than a show intended to entertain."

It's a term used by people that want to press an auto-win button for their argument without explaining their side.

I actually think wokeness can be good. In fact that’s what stopped many injustices, like racism and sexism. But now… we’ve gone too far. With cancel culture and such, the extremes of wokeness need to stop. I’ll even say the extremes of everything need to stop. I’d even say the extreme right is worse in some ways because I’ve barely heard of actual violence being done in the name of extreme wokeness.

But for now, because of our current state, let’s talk about extreme anti-wokeness.

Yes, I do actually believe in biological reality, with respect that people can live how they want, even if I don’t agree. But there is so much fearmongering about trans ppl. I was talking to my school friends and someone brought up trans bathroom bills and said that they are worried that they will be assaulted by a transfem. I know lots of trans ppl IRL, and they are, just like the rest of us. Human.

And also, what about the issues that affect all of us. Like big tech getting away with too much. Like companies putting crap in our personal care products. Like 48.1% of us adults having high blood pressure(https://www.cdc.gov/high-blood-pressure ... index.html).

"Woke" has been co-opted by the Right as a media-friendly all-encompassing code word for all the horrible things they used to not be able to say on camera. Civil Rights? woke. Interracial couples? Woke. Feeding starving children? Woke. Instead of saying "whites only" or "women belong in the kitchen" they can just say "I'm anti-woke" and friends and enemies alike can infer their meaning from context clues without having to say the ugly quiet part out loud. Woke is a slogan created to make hate marketable on mainstream media.
