How to Nuke a God in 10 Matchdays

Written: January 2023, April 2025

The Baptism of Fire tournament preceding World Cup 29 was not a vintage one. Forgotten Qazox puppet Sativaville took the spoils and collectively asked themselves this question: What kind of BoF winner will I be? Like Grand Slam winners Sarzonia, like future champions Bettia? Or forgotten footnotes in history like South Ossetia, Hurfordia or the Liamist States?

Sativaville takes it place in history with the other 15 BoF winners. the big question is will they be like Cuation, the Islands of Qutar, Bettia, Tutori, Dance 2 Revolution and Sarzonia, teams that have gone on to play and win in the World Cup or will they be like Liamist States, Eystrck, South Ossetia or Hurfordia and slip back into the great muck of international play? Hopefully with time Sativaville can compete consistantly with the best the world has to offer.
:- Sativaville 2006-06-19

Well, to answer their question: 19 years later they would be introduced to an Idiot Project audience with the pretitle 'forgotten Qazox puppet'. In eleven attempts at qualifying for the World Cup, they will succeed zero times. In fact, no team in this Baptism of Fire would ever reach the finals. Few would even survive long enough to sign up for cycle 30.

When you talk about the Class of '29, you're not looking at the 20 newbies that entered the BoF. You're looking at the three that didn't.

Three teams that approached the international football with wildly different energies.

The Elven Marauders sign up for their first World Cup.

Bostopia would like to enter it’s first World Cup. Bostopia would also like to enter the Baptism of Fire if at all possible.

and if i get in what happens, do i go to fireball thing or what?
:- Quakmybush. 2006-06-07

Elves Security Forces are punctual. Forthright. Giving nothing away, not at this stage. The copy of the roster we have access to shows them playing with a +1 modifier, but it looks like a system that underwent some experimentation during the group stage, as the side tries to find the optimum formula. Naturally, this isn’t their final form just yet.

Their first interactions with the wider football world gives a detailed analysis of their team, shows off a classic home kit that hasn’t needed an overhaul in the past few centuries, and uses bunny ears to throw some accidental shade on one of their group-mates.

Today the groups for World Cup 29 were drawn and the outlook for the Marauders looks neither bleak or optimistic. While Audioslavia is the "powerhouse" in the group, there are several other decent squads that will pose a challenge.
:- ESF, 2006-06-19

A few weeks after ESF sign up, a side called Bostopia does the same.

Also short and to the point, although they’re late for the Baptism of Fire, which is already underway. Bostopia believe they pose something of a threat to their qualifying group, but have less of an emphasis on strategy. Famously, they introduced their starting lineup to the world well before their opening game, not caring to obfuscate any deeper tactics. They didn’t have any.

“As you can see, we’re playing a 4-4-2, with Rob and Dave pushing down the flanks. Steven Serring will also be going forward in more of a free role, and John Willis will play a holding role. Ok, any questions? Yes, Greg!

[Griffis] Coach Ferring, don’t you think it’s a bit dangerous to tell the other team what four of your guys are doing?

[Ferring] Well Greg, first, it’s manager. And secondly, what else are right wingers who are known for their attacking ability going to do? We all know of Steven’s ability to attack, and anyway, we know what their goalkeepers doing and what their strikers will be doing. Think of it as a game of swapsies. Anyone else?”
:- Bostopia 2006-06-20

Quakmybush, meanwhile, posted about their desire for bounces.

This is Bob Weeks of the TSN soccer network. The qualifying groups for WC 29 have been announced and our countrymen from Quakmybush will be in tough.

The team will need a few bounces for any chance at all.

Then they did so a second time, a few hours later.

This is a side which would play a formation with four strikers. A formation which they insisted required a Minus One defensive modifier.

Their kit, like that of Elves Security Forces, was made in Oliverry, but doesn’t quite have the same ‘instant classic’feel. For some reason, stylistically, teal sharkfins never really stood the test of the time.

The difference in how these teams approached international football led to differences in how they were treated by their respective group-mates. Naturally, none were predicted to qualify, but while the confident, measured Marauders were tipped to be a potential future threat, which in hindsight is a horrendous understatement, Quakmybush were derided immediately. Mis-spelled. Misapprehended. Misunderstood.

“it looks like Elves Security Forces could be a bit of a spoiler. They should definitly be competitive, matchday in, matchday out. Prediction: Fifth”
:- Becquerelia 2006-06-19
“Bostopia: another new nation, totally unranked and is not even really worth commenting on... easy wins.”
:- Bazalonia 2006-06-19
“QuakeMyBush is totally new to the World Cup scene. expect easy wins against all these nations that most likely don't even know what a football is.”
Atheistic Right, 2006-06-21
“Elves Security Forces] are either very brave or foolish to come into the World Cup with no experience. They may train but without the games, they may struggle to adapt for awhile.”
:- Cuation. 2006-06-22
“Quakmybush (unranked): One word sums this up quite well…Who??? Predicted Finish: 7th”
:- Praying2God, 2006-06-21

On the opening day of World Cup 29, all three of Bostopia, Elves Security Forces and Quakmybush would be given their hardest possible match: Their group’s top seed, away from home. For Bostopia, this meant a trip to Liverpool England, by this point two-time World Champions. ESF visited Audioslavia in a true baptism of fire: their opponents team who would go on to reach the final of this very World Cup. Quakmybush would go up against one of the less successful top-seeds, but a top seed nonetheless. A veteran of almost fifteen cycles.

Praying2God.

Two years on from the events of World Cup 11, Praying2God were at the end of a very long and arduous road from pre-jolt n00b to late twenties “powerhouse”. They’d left the football world shortly after World Cup 14 but rejoined a week later in World Cup 20, deciding to stick around properly. In World Cup 28. Praying2God had had their best ever cycle, taking the full nine points from the group stage and being unlucky to lose out in the last sixteen.

Nevertheless, World Cup 29 will bring their participation in international football to an abrupt end. Famously incapable of dealing with defeat while a newcomer, it should come as little surprise that they were even less equipped to face losing when burdened with the pressure of being the group’s top seeds.

The two years between World Cups 11 and 29 have apparently not calmed P2G’s bloodlust.

If you watch enough heist movies, you notice a pattern. If you sit with the protagonists while they talk about the big plan, then when you watch them execute the big plan, something will go wrong. If you instead listen to a voice-over from the protagonists about their plan, while watching a montage of the plan in motion, then it’ll go off without a hitch. There are similar patterns in Praying2God RPs. Even if you haven’t seen the Scores thread yet, you can still tell whether or not P2G are upset about having lost their game just from their RP. It’s subtle, but the clues are there. One thing to look out for, for example, is gunshot wounds appearing in young women.

A pair of unidentified gunmen somehow managed to elude the heavy security at the House of Prayer and get into the Warriors locker room just before they were to take the field for their WC XXIX opener against Quakmybush, taking the team hostage. The gunmen barracaded the doors, preventing both escape and rescue efforts.
Praying2God, 2006-06-22
The Praying2God FBI and stadium security tried to negotiate a peaceful surrender for five hours, while the rest of the stadium was oblivious to what was going on, except for the fact that a team of six-year-olds had to play for the Warriors.
Praying2God, 2006-06-22[/align]
When negotiations were cut off, the P2G FBI tried to come down through the ceiling to catch the gunmen off guard and prevent injury to the Warriors team or the staff. However, before both gunmen were gunned down, reserve midfielder Crystal Berry was shot.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital. The hospital and the P2GSA have refused to comment on the extent of her injuries. Once word leaked to the public, the fact that the Warriors were upset became unimportant, as it always does when things like this occur. It also made all too real the stories that the citizens of P2G have heard over the years about the team bus being attacked after their last match of their original WC Qualifying back in WC XI. The identities and nationalities of the gunmen have not been determined as of this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and teammates of Crystal Berry.”
:- Praying2God, June 22nd 2006

I have checked, and I do not believe Crystal Berry is the name of any real-world victim of a mass shooting. As it turns out, anyone named Crystal Berry became impossible to google after the popularisation of vaping.

EDIT: In the time between me writing the above line (January 2023) and going through the editing process (April 2025), someone named Crystal Berry has been involved in a mass shooting. Proof, if more were needed, never to underestimate Americans.

With one player shot and the rest kidnapped, it was up to Quakmybush to defeat Praying2God’s team of six-year olds, which they did by a single goal to nil.
“This is the TSN soccer network bringing the results of the first day of WC 29 qualifying. In one of the more shocking results of the day was in group 12 with top ranked (in the group) Praying2god losing to unranked Quakmybush. Cory Sorely scored a beutiful goal on a corner kick.”
:-Quakmybush, 2006-06-22

As you might expect after such a tragedy, there is an outpouring of sympathy for Praying2God from the wider NS Sport community.

MONASTIC FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION PRESS RELEASE
MFA Send Condolences to Praying2God
Holy Icon Blessed to Commemorate Occasion

That there has been long-standing rivalry between the Archregimancy and Praying2God, based on the latter nation's multiple heresies, is a matter of record. The Monastic Football Association would nonetheless like to send its condolences to Praying2God to mark the sad occasion of the kidnapping of the team, the shooting of Crystal Berry, and the slaughter of the 6 year olds by an unranked team on the field of play
:- The Archregimancy 22-06-2006
In other news, a tragedy has occurred in Praying2God where one player was shot and the Warriors held hostage while kids had to play in their place. We offer our condolences and best wishes for that squad in this time of trouble.
:- Andossa Se Mitrin Vega 22-06-2006
The Ministry of Morale, the Presse-Journal Devoir, and all Montréalais would like to express their deepest sympathies and condolence to the people of Praying2God and the families.
:- New Montreal States 22-06-2006
There follows a Party Political Broadcast on behalf of the Party Party...

"Hello, Mike Toby from the Party Party here to give another insight into how politics and football really shouldn't be mixed.

"Of course, the big news story at the moment is the taking of the entire Praying2God team as hostages and the shooting of player Crystal Berry.

"Let it be known that the Party Party's view on this kind of atrocity is probably the same as any other political party's, in that we condone such events
:- Schiavonia 22-06-2006

If the sympathies of the community help the team, it doesn’t show. In one of the weirdest qualifying groups of all time, top seeds Praying2God finish down in fifth.

Image

It is the final straw.

WIPED OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH

The nations of Praying2God and Pastorville were both wiped off the face of the earth by an unknown nation who dropped a series of nuclear weapons on both nations, killing all residents of both nations. The motive for the attack is unknown. There are no survivors.
:-Praying2God 07-07-2006

It looks like an expulsion of toys from pram, but there is a storyline here. One that’s been set up by group-mates and natural thematic enemies Atheistic-Right. It’s the first act of a war that sees Atheistic-Right defeated by most of the region of Atlantian Oceania.

And I tell you what, if there’s one thing we can’t fault Praying2God on, it’s committing to the bit.

ImageImage

We will rejoin Quakmybush a little later. First, a final word on Praying2God.

If I could describe Praying2God’s ending in a word, and if I could describe their RP style in just one word, it would be this:

Lancrean.

Bulls On The Charge
'basically qualified already' quips Monterroso after Mertian job.

After carefully moving aside unranked Henrik P on the first day of qualifying, the Bulls committed a spectacular act of fratricide last night as they defeated visiting Mertagne by three goals to nothing. It's the first time the Bulls have beaten a top fifty side by three goals in five cycles, since a 4-0 win over Cardenao in the playoffs for WC94.

Monterroso's men didn't necessarily sparkle in getting the job done - this team will need to move the ball more quickly in midfield if they are to even compete with top seeds Crpostran - but they were clinical when they did get the ball in advanced positions.

Ivo Cavagnaro opened the scoring on eighteen minutes, reaching a looped throughball before the goalkeeper and poking a finish underneath them for 1-0. Before long the lead had doubled, with Ronan Buckley dragging a shot into the far corner from an acute angle, with the keeper slightly out of position. The third goal would come late on - a counter-attack in typical Audioslavian fashion. Cam Hooper would pick up the ball through the centre, bear down on goal and thump a low finish into the corner from 20 yards, past a keeper who was likely still trying to close the gap to the forward.

Two games in, two wins, five goals for and none against, Salvador Monterroso was chipper in the post-match press conference, hinting that he thought his side stood a decent chance of being the first in history not to concede a single goal in qualifying (an almost impossible task, given the eighteeen-game fixture list) and says that, even at this early stage, Audioslavia must be 'favourites' to win the group.

We'll see how funny his predictions are in a few months.

The Winner Takes It All - Dragoonspiel’s Future In The Spotlight

By Antony Rotweiss, KBC Election Correspondent

“I think it’s time for us to break out on our own.”

That is the view of Douglas Allwright, the owner of the Fisherman’s Arms in Ynysgard, the biggest watering hole in the largest village on the small island of Dragoonspiel, summing up a growing sentiment on the island ahead of the coming general election.

Since the Katzeburgian Revolution, the island has often been an afterthought for the nation, relegated to jokes on late night TV and treated as a testing ground for less-popular policies by incoming governments. One only needs to remember the great “Fund the Late Night Out” debacle from a decade ago which saw the island the test site for a heavy relaxation of operating hours laws, forcing everything from dentists to law firms to pubs to operate basically around the clock, resulting in an explosion in public drinking and violence on the streets of Ynsygard as people and productivity slumped due to a lack of sleep.

But in recent years, the island has quickly seen its reputation explode, thanks in no small part to the heroics of the island’s sporting endeavours - the local chess clubs wins at the Elephant Chess Cup has put the island on the map of the average Katzeburgian, and this is something the island has been keen to build on to renegotiate the terms of its continued existence in the nation.

“People know about us now,” said Katzeburgian Alliance candidate Nora Keller, who also played a role in the island’s two wins at the ECC, including their most recent triumph in South Newlandia. “We’ve long been that part of the country which has been left behind or treated as a dumping ground, and that narrative is now on its way out. This election is going to be crucial to see what path our community wants to take; what we want to be bringing to the table on a national level.”

Keller is running for the party of the incumbent government, a party which historically has been reluctant to shift power out of the key cities on the mainland. But times have changed, she tells us, and a renewed KA government would look to provide the island with the infrastructure it needs to integrate further with the mainland.

“It’s clear that with an explosion of interest in Ynysgard thanks to the triumph of our chess team, we need to catch up in terms of infrastructure,” Keller tells us in a campaign event at the Ynysgard Chess Hall. “Currently the ferry from Ynysgard to Blackmouth only runs once a day and there is no additional source of transport over from the mainland. The KA is proposing that we expand this to include a second ferry service from Fishpool, as well as allocate enough funding for a small airstrip to encourage small-scale domestic flights.”

Image
Above: The results for Dragoonspiel at the last election saw Plaid Dragoonspiel returned in a record victory margin.

Keller is right for the need for further infrastructure - tourism numbers in Ynysgard have exploded in the last two years and the current ferry service is overwhelmed. Currently preference for tickets is given to those who live on the island, but the 150-capacity ferry has been sold out every trip for the last six months, hamstrung by the sluggish speed of the local councils to expand services.

But while the KA may have a decent shot of returning to government on the mainland, it’s a very different story in Dragoonspiel. The island is rather unique in the tapestry of Katzeburgian politics in that it is one of only a few seats held by an independent party separate to the larger players. Plaid Dragoonspiel has held the seat for the last two elections, with the party retaining the seat in AK19 with a 70.8% total over the Radical Workers party - a mainland offshoot which achieves solid results thanks to its partnerships with the fisherman’s union.

What about the party is appealing to locals? Allwright tells me over a pint that the biggest draw is the knowledge that the party is deeply invested in the community and ensuring that its interests are represented in the national government.

“They’re a party for us here on the island and noone else,” he said. “We have separate needs from the mainland purely because we’re so separate and have a different culture there than you’d find on the mainland. [Rhodri] Norris does a great job as our MP and he’s someone who is constantly in the community trying to make things better and build our links with the mainland.”

Norris has been the MP for the last two elections, being a significant part of the growth of the party on the island thanks to his regular fireside chats at the Fisherman’s Arms where all constituents can come to him and talk about the challenges they face, no matter the size.

“Visibility is huge for politicians, especially in a community like this where everyone knows everyone else,” said Norris. “Just last week, I had lovely old Doris from a few streets down come in and tell me about how a street light had gone out in front of her house. We worked with the council to get it sorted within a day, just a simple job but those little things add up.

“Dragoonspiel is in a really tricky spot - we’re not yet equipped to deal with the interest coming to our shores and the mainland government has long been quiet about doing anything to support us. Maybe it’s because we’re just one seat out of 500, but this is a unique part of our wider country and we’re being ignored.

“I think over the last few years, there’s been a push for us to go out on our own and declare independence and it’s not just come from me and the party. It’s the people who want this and it’s something I’m pledging to explore should we be re-elected.”

Independence is easier to say than to get it done. There are laws drafted after the Revolution which do allow for a region to call for independence, but they have yet to be tested in any capacity. For Dragoonspiel to split off from Katzeburg, the region would need to hold a referendum of its people and require a two-thirds majority to proceed. Should they achieve this, the crucial element would be the permission from the national parliament to allow the island to break off as their own autonomous nation - This could be the real challenge.

Current polling of MPs has support of Dragoonspiel independence sitting at just under 10% within this current parliament, but it is projected that this could reduce further post-election as the nation looks to bring the island in from the cold due to its rising profile.

But Norris is confident that a vote can be held within the coming years should he achieve re-election.

“We need to beat the drum for it if we want it, and this election could prove to be an affirmation from the island,” he said. “If we show that the island wants to break off, than it makes it a lot easier to go to government and argue our case, but we need to have that vote first of all.”

Despite coming in with a big margin in the last election, the vote is projected to drop for Plaid Dragoonspiel this election, thanks in no small part to the star-power of Keller as the KA candidate. A veteran of local politics and the current mayor of Ynysgard, she has a distinct draw which could be vital in closing the gap and fostering tighter ties with the mainland.

Current polling has Plaid Dragoonspiel still as the favourites, but with a voting intention of just under 50 percent, the lowest in years for the party. The KA meanwhile, have rocketed up the odds with an intention of just over 30 percent, a far cry from the under five percent the party polled at the previous election.

It marks an interesting reflection point for voters heading to the polls - do they align with the push for autonomy and independence which Plaid Dragoonspiel are confident in achieving? Or do they swing to the incumbent party on the mainland, expressing a desire to foster tighter ties with the rest of Katzeburg and negotiate the terms of their existence?

A third option - and arguably the biggest unknown in this election - could be found in the Radical Workers Party, who has seen some of their share sapped by the KA. The party is on course to finish third in the voting at the current polling, but where its preferences flow could be vital in deciding whether the KA has a chance at snatching a win.

The party told KBC in a comment that it was “committed to the population of Dragoonspiel and ensuring that it is best represented in the government” and it hopes “that we will be that representation in parliament once all the votes are counted.” However, it didn’t go so far as to say which party it would direct its voters to give preferences to, stating that “this decision is still one which is being discussed by the local chapter in order to ensure that the goals and aims of the community are captured in preferences.”

When all is said and done however come election day, the battle for Dragoonspiel and its place in the nation is something which is only just beginning.

Oyez! Oyez! Oyez!

Come gather around you children of spring and let us begin the tale of how The Prosaic Union of Gnejs ceased to be.

It surely did seem like that one star twinkled just a tad bit too intensely on the night sky as a diligent adviser at the Department of Bewildering and Delphic Occurrences of The Ministry of The Interior started looking more closely into the backlog of possible prognostications uttered by resident «greenseer» Roger Ulvheim, the former Principal Officer to the Directorate General of the Department of Non-Aligned Diplomacy at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who succumbed to madness on the slopes of the next valley along during a visit to Delte some time ago. Gumala, many have later identified that one star that seemingly foreshadowed what would follow. A star of the 6th magnitude in the constellation of Sagittarius and a yellow-white dwarf, it burns hotter and shines more luminous than the Sun itself! Named after a fabled bezoar stone once found trapped in the gastrointestinal system of a giant serpent, it would indeed make some sort of poetic sense if it would be the one acting as The Prosaic Union’s own ominous morning star. To be sure, the ground also very much trembled softly (but with malicious intent) on that day, although this was barely noticeable to most, and definitely not through the thick layers of concrete encapsulating the offices deep down below Pebble Street. But I digress.

They say much had happened since the Unit for Delphic Occurrences found themselves forced to admit defeat in regards to the prophecy about how Enda Clentin would guide The Dandelions to winning the WC. Most of it discouraging, for sure. Oh how hard the mighty fall! Their reputation had been severely dented, and the department’s sway in the ministerial world all but diminished. They were always loyal and diligent workers though, and they would’ve never dreamed of not continuing operations; the only real difference was that fewer were now inclined to listen. This was arguably a shame, because never before had the department and ministry had access to such considerable volumes of divinations, all courtesy of Roger Ulvheim. While his original expounding on the prophecy concerning Enda Clentin had been communicated via smearing his own feces on the walls, things were very different at this stage. Ever since he started speaking, that one fateful night right before the 98th World Cup, he had never truly stopped. Much of it utter gibberish, of course, but interspersed with chilling foresights all eventually verified as true cases of Greensight; tucked in between random Italian proverbs and names of German desserts, hiding under unending lists of words starting with the letter «D» and derivative treatises on the nature of tragedy, there were undeniable nuggets of pure vaticinations, like The Bees crushing it in the Vanarama or the rise of facism in The United Federation.

The magnitude of Ulvheim’s production had soon become a problem though, because there were simply not enough employees to keep up with his rate of divining and therefore huge piles of recordings and notes cluttered the offices deep down below Pebble Street. They all took turns working through the older material, but just as soon as you had either discarded one old file or marked another as «pertinent», Ulvheim would throw out a new one and so the days went by. This was the main reason that nobody had devoted much time studying Ulvheim’s very first utterance, the one he delivered on that fateful night right before the 98th World Cup. But this changed on that day, when the diligent advisor decided to start from the bottom and return to the beginning. It was a chilling tape to watch, and the content was puzzling. That was often the case with both prophecies and gibberish, however, and did not deter the diligent adviser. He took meticulous notes about valleymen leaving a stage and a valley man going quiet, stoic press and layered walls and a mysterious tulip with stinging bees. It was all framed ominously, where the alignment of these things would herald nothing less than ancient forces reclaiming «the rock». In short, it had most of what a diligent advisor at the Unit for Delphic Occurrences could wish for, and he eagerly started with preliminary research. The «Rock» spoken of could easily refer to The Union itself (a common colloquial term), whereas references to men of a valley could denote unending possibilities, but perhaps most likely the valleys around the River Delte (likely, because it was here Ulvheim developed his gift of greensight/descended into madness). He sifted through old volumes of folk tales and countless books on Union mythology, inspected tomes of occult literature and standard runology treaties. He consulted ministry affiliated shamans and performed rudimentary pagan rituals, like you do when preliminarily researching a potential case of Greensight, but nowhere could he find anything shining a light on the significance of stoic pressing, walls with layers or least of all a tulip with stinging bees. He spent much time trying to make sense of it all, but in the end he was pressured by his superiors to move on, and he ultimately archived the file amongst the discarded, with a simple note stating:

It really was a shame that the diligent advisor wasn’t much of a football fan, because that could’ve been the skeleton key he was looking for. However, in the grand scheme of things, would it have mattered even if he had figured it out? Isn’t the point of Fate as recounted in a true prophecy that it happens regardless of what mere men do? Besides, with the ministerial climate of those days and the department’s standing, would anyone even have listened if they started to cry wolf? Doubtful. Sure enough, a lot of lives could’ve been spared if he had figured it out, and if anyone had listened. This is no doubt true, but also just a purely academic exercise, because that’s not what happened.

Presidential Elections in the Lithuanian Region - A Look at the Top Candidates

A presidential election is scheduled to be held in the Lithuanian federal region of the North Polish Union. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote in the first round, a second round will be held between the wo leading first-round candidates to select the regional president.

The North Polish Union is divided into three federal regions of Lithuania, Prussia, and Poland (and the capital region). Under the highly federalized political system, each of the federal regions maintains near-complete independence over internal affairs and governance, although national defense, trade and economic matters, and foreign policy are managed by the federal government. The federal presidency rotates among the regions, but regions themselves are free to choose their own political leadership in any way they choose.

Lithuania maintains a semi-presidential republican system in which the president is responsible for maintaining relations and cooperation amongst the other federal regions and also wields considerable influence over parliament and the prime minister.

Despite its name, Lithuania is populated only by about 25% ethnic Lithuanians, with close to 70% of the population being Slavic-speaking Belarusians (and a remainder of other ethnicities). Despite this, the Lithuanian minority has clung to their political power and refused to implement majority rule, an arrangement which has met with considerable criticism both within the Union itself and internationally; the Lithuanian government continues to refer to the majority population euphemistically as ‘Lithuanians of Slavic language’, a term which is generally not used federally or in the other regions of the Union despite Lithuanian efforts to promote or mandate it. Lithuanian is the official language of the federal region and individuals running for regional office must demonstrate ‘proficiency’ in it to be eligible; in general this has meant the use of various shibboleths to ensure that only native speakers of Lithuanian may run for any position.

The political situation has improved dramatically from approximately 30 years ago, when southeastern Lithuania was plagued by separatist insurgency and terrorist attacks targeted political figures throughout the region. The insurgency was eventually suppressed following the death of its leader, Michaił Drozd, and a series of negotiated settlements with the various rebel groups. Among the terms of the ceasefire was the allowance of Belarusian as a language of primary education and economic development initiatives in the Belarusian areas. Despite this, Lithuania, and particularly the heavily-Belarusian southeastern part, remain the poorest and most underdeveloped parts of the Union, and a sizable Belarusian internal migration has taken place, primarily to Poland or the capital region. Lithuania has continued to be accused of utilizing voter suppression tactics amounting to disenfranchisement towards its Belarusian population.

Although the Constitutional Court of Lithuania has approved 14 candidates for eligibility in the presidential election, only six are estimated to pass the 5% vote share threshold necessary for reimbursement of certain campaign expenses, and only four of those are expected to realistically compete for the second round.

Image
Neringa Barauskienė - age 39 - Gelbėk Lietuvą Sąjunga (Save Lithuania Union, GLS)
Campaign motto: “Mes atkuriame Lietuvą” (“We are restoring Lithuania”)
Initial polling (approximate): 7%

A Lithuanian nationalist and rising young star in regional politics, Barauskienė has served as mayor of Kaunas since 2020. Although coming from a smaller center-right small-government nationalist party, she is nonetheless known to be well-connected in the halls of power. She supports a campaign of Lithuanization and a rollback of many of the ceasefire conditions, viewing them as a financial drain on the region. Consistent with this, she supports other forms of government downsizing, alongside tax cuts.

Image
Stasys Gylys - age 58 - Nacionalinė Liberalų Partija (National Liberal Party, NLP)
Campaign motto: “Tarnaujant šaliai, su garbe ir tikėjimu” (“Serving the country, with honor and faith”)
Initial polling (approximate): 9%

A staunch traditionalist, Gylys was the regional Prime Minister from 2021 to 2023, representing Lithuania's oldest (and most conservative mainstream) party. During his premiership, the region was accused of increased authoritarianism and democratic backsliding. A ultra-traditionalist Roman Catholic, Gylys has made a number of disparaging comments about the Eastern-Rite Catholic churches that a plurality of the region's population are members of. Where Barauskienė is a secular nationalist who couches her policy in economic terms, Gylys' nationalism is much more reactionary and old-school. Despite having reached the office of Prime Minister in Lithuania's heavily-gerrymandered Parliament, Gylys will struggle to appeal in a regionwide election where his views are being voted on directly.

Image
Gintaras Paulauskas - age 46 - Independent
Campaign motto: “Vizija. Pagarba.” (“Vision. Respect”)
Initial polling (approximate): 24%

Unlike the many of the other candidates, most of Paulauskas' career has been at the national, rather than regional, level. A member of the national Senate for 11 years, he resigned his seat 6 years ago to serve as Secretary of Defense under federal President Heiner Wolf. Following Wolf's replacement by the incoming Arnold Swoboda at the start of the year, Paulauskas decided to run for regional president as a pure technocratic centrist, emphasizing his national credentials and promising ease of interregional cooperation thanks to his federal connections. Having spent most of his time since he was a young man outside of the region makes him an interesting candidate; he may struggle to appeal to those wanting a 'homegrown' candidate, but he may also appeal to those looking for an 'outsider' but who are uncomfortable with the more radical politics of other such candidates.

Image
Domantas Sabonis - age 47 - Independent
Campaign motto: “Lietuva visiems, o ne tik kai kuriems žmonėms” (“Lithuania for everyone, not just some people”)
Initial polling (approximate): 11%

Although born in Vilnius to Lithuanian parents, Sabonis trained as an agronomist and spent most of his career in the Belarusian regions working in ag development and is now a fluent speaker. Despite having worked closely with both regional and federal government agriculture agencies, he is outspokenly not a politician and has never previously run for office. A radical populist, he is viewed as unacceptable to the Lithuanian political elite, although he is widely popular in the southeast and among non-Lithuanians. He favors a highly integrationalist approach towards ethnic relations, supporting full political equality.

Image
Simonas Šapoka - age 52 - Socialdemokratų Partija (Social Democratic Party, SP)
Campaign motto: “Saugus kelias į Lietuvą” (“Safe journey for Lithuania”)
Initial polling (approximate): 20%

Nearly thirty years ago, Šapoka was a youthful military officer combatting the Belarusian insurgency. After a highly successful military career, he entered regional politics in 2012, being elected as a MP for the district of Pastovys. Today, he serves as the Prime Minister of Lithuania. The leader of the nominally center-left Socialdemokratų Partija, his party has long been considered 'left in name only'. He is the establishment candidate and unlikely to rock the boat at any point. His military background, however, will make him unpopular among some sectors of the population.

Image
Svajūnas Žukauskas - age 62 - Aljansas už Lietuvių Sąjungą (Alliance for the Union of Lithuanians, ALS)
Campaign motto: “Daugelio prezidentas” (“President of many”)
Initial polling (approximate): 17%

Žukauskas is of mixed Lithuanian-Slavic heritage, being the child of a Lithuanian mother and Belarusian father. Although he prefers to use the Lithuanian form of his name, rather than the Belarusian 'Žukoŭski', he has been an activist for expanded Belarusian rights for decades. After being arrested several times during or in relation to protests, he eventually moderated his positions and has worked for reform within the existing political framework, culminating in 2019 with the foundation of the Aljansas už Lietuvių Sąjungą party and a move into Parliament. Similar to Sabonis but less of an outsider, he gets no love from the political elites but can expect to pick of votes from outside the political mainstream.

Postby Commonwealth of Baker Park » Fri May 23, 2025 1:39 pm

It was probably understandable that the opening match of World Cup 99 Qualifying found the Commonwealth of Baker Park National Team in a less confident frame of mind against fellow Arrosian nation Qasden than the majority of their warm-up fixtures had shown; it was not at all the same carnival of free flowing soccer that the meetings with Banija, Quebec and Shingoryeo, Crpostran or Drawkland had been.

In fact it was much more like a hangover from their final outing, the lone away friendly match in Alaer in The Kytler Peninsulae, having been arranged as a memorial benefit for the victims of Flight 134 carrying the Rushmori nation's National Team and traveling party which had crashed in the notorious Blood Sea off Quebec under mysterious circumstances, killing all 328 passengers.

The Naval Service of the Commonwealth's Task Force 3 had taken part in the search for the wreckage and recovery of the victims by virtue of being assigned on station in the area alongside Banija and Q&S, but the FAC were approached to be the guests because of the fact that the BPNT had been the last visitors to the Clituleng Giisost Stadium during the knockout stage of World Cup 98. They would have the honor of being present for the introduction of the rebirth of the Kytlerian National side and while the solemnity of the occasion concluded with an emotional famous home victory, the carryover feelings for the Bees seemed to still be fresh in the minds of the squad as the Turkish Vans came calling

The resulting 2-2 draw was the first time in the series that the spoils were shared on the day, although it certainly felt more a like a triumph for the visitors; dropping points right at the start to a team 86 places below BP in the rankings have put the Gold & Black at a disadvantage with the 3rd, 4th and 5th seeds next up on the schedule.

They did get an important away win against Nexxus Drako on match day two, leaving them 2 points off top spot behind Saint Eleanor and surprise leaders Loyo, but there will now be little margin for error over the rest of the first half of the fixture list.

From the Diaries of Swole Santa

On the first matchday of qualification, my swole elves gave to me... a straightforward victory

Well, that was easy. Shared double-headed eagle logos aside, Gyaromia rolled over and died like a bunch of goulash-nibbling beta male Magyars. No real need to find out who'd been naughty and then torture them with it. They were outmatched, outgunned, outmanned. And I mean out manned.

Sissies.

Funny how the match took place in a blinding snowstorm. Unusual conditions in these parts, apparently; must have been trying to make us feel at home. It worked. We felt strong; invincible.

The best thing to come out of the match was the new terrace chant about Wunorse Openslay; great game for Wunorse, scoring both goals. Let's hope we hear more of this chant...

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to watch
Our Wunorse Openslay, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to watch
Our Wunorse Openslay, hey

Dashing through the snow
Is Wunorse Openslay
O'er the pitch he goes
Scoring all the way
Bells on rattles ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
Our football song tonight

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to watch
Our Wunorse Openslay, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to watch
Our Wunorse Openslay, hey

A day or two ago
I thought I'd watch the match
And soon, another fan
Was seated by my side
The opponents surely stank
Misfortune seemed their lot
Their goalie we will always thank
He is a stupid clot

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to watch
Our Wunorse Openslay, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to watch
Our Wunorse Openslay, hey

An hour or two ago
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my way I fell
A gent was passing by
Wearing a red beret
He laughed and took me to the ground
Where our team was soon to play

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to watch
Our Wunorse Openslay, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to watch
Our Wunorse Openslay, hey

Now the pitch is white
Go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight
And sing this football song
The opposing fans are whores
As naughty as their team!
Wunorse Openslay will score
And crack, we'll take the lead

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

Faces of HUElavia

Episode 1:
The Hueti

To learn and understand about the United States of HUElavia, one must look at the the indigenous people of the country: The Hueti. These indigenous people span mainly from the northern coast and region of the country, while other pockets of the people are found in the southern coastal areas. Currently, there are over 70 Million HUElavians who claim to have majority or full Hueti ancestry in their family tree. Still, this falls short to the estimated amount that existed in the continent prior to Euroan exploration in the 17th century, of which estimates report there was about 250 million Hueti living along the coastlines and waterways.

Based on archeological discoveries up to now, the Hueti have been living on the HUElavian continent since at least 4000 BCE. Most structures found were ancient homes and temples where the Hueti would worship and make decisions on the local populace. Simply put, the Hueti had their forms of government, usually led by a Chief followed by Sub-Chiefs depending on how big was the populace. Despite the leadership, many cities would go to war with each other in efforts to ransack the cities and take the populace into their city and have them serve as some sort of slavery. The main cities that were considered the largest "empires" of the continent includes: Kuelap, Pamallu, Jinaqa, Chuncsaka, Tsachi, Makajuaylla, and Natel. Despite the fights that would happen, there were periods of peace and prosperity among the different cities and tribes, where most seemed to have engaged in trading, sometimes offering seashells, beads and such as a form of currency among the people.

The ancient Hueti were known to hunt the Jaguars as the main source of meat which they would have to hunt in packs in order to be able to defend themselves and have a surviving chance. Many spears and some shields made from the wood of the trees were found over time, mainly in decaying conditions but some well preserved ones have been retrieved and placed in museums throughout HUElavia. Besides jaguars, the Hueti also hunted the fish in the rivers and lakes, as well as knocking down fruits in the area, such as coconuts on the coast, mangoes and bananas in the more interior regions of the country.

Besides the diet the Hueti had, they were also known for their cultivation of different plants for medical purposes. One such medication that was cultivated by the Hueti was the Quinine, which was commonly found on the bark of cinchona trees spread throughout the country. This medication was known to treat the Hueti (and eventually many HUElavians) dealing with symptoms of Malaria, due to the humid and hot environment that made it easy for mosquitoes to breed and attack the Hueti. The other plant that would be cultivated was the Coca plant. the ancient Hueti would chew on the leaves while working or going on hunts. The Coca, where the drug cocaine comes from, is used to suppress hunger, fatigue, and pain, while also serving as a stimulant. To this day, many Hueti-HUElavians still chew the leaves as a way to get through their working hours.

Once the Portuzians and Aestellians came and explored the continent, many diseases were introduced and wiped out a large portion of the Hueti population. Many would end up going into isolation in higher regions in the center of the continent, or they would be openly hostile to the explorers, barring them from getting near their cities. As a result, there was much difficulty with the Portuzians and Aestellians invading the cities and regions, capturing the Hueti and either putting them into slavery or REDACTED them. It wasn't until the Catholic Church got word of the treatment of the Huetis that a proclamation was made strong arming the two countries to improve the treatment of the Hueti or risk excommunication and have trade cut off between the countries with the Holy Church. Thus, the Hueti were emancipated but still treated as second-class citizens with notable levels of racism and discrimination. Still, some of the immigrant Portuzians and Aestellians would come to fancy the Hueti and it was fairly common for interracial relationships and marriages to appear, along with the mixed-children of said relationships.

Still, many Hueti-HUElavians have become outstanding citizens, partaking in civic duties, being known in cinema and television and sports, as well as the sciences. Nowadays they're seen as the original people of the country and are treated with respect, with many living respectable lives.

An Expected Win and An Expected Loss

One of the most important stats in soccer is xG or expected goals. xG calculates how likely a team is able to score, while not 100% accurate and still being worked on xG essentially functions as batting average for a soccer game. While we know that batting average can be a useful statistic, it is full of flaws and never tells the whole story. Stats like on base percentage, slugging, or WOBA (weighted on base average) do a much better job of telling the full story of whether a batter is actually doing a good job than batting average. However, with a sport like soccer where there is a lot more variance in, well everything, considering that soccer is 11 vs 11 the whole time with true fluid motion from teams and baseball, while played 9 vs 9 is really just a series of 1 v 1 duels creates a real gap. Basically, getting to batting average in soccer is pretty good and it helps us a lot but it does and cannot tell the whole story.

Anyway, Milchama is a third seed now and while only 1 World Cup from a good octofinal appearance, they are ranked 52, not very good, and attempting to rebuild after a meme era team did surprisingly well and then had to stick around for doing so well. The last ARC they literally sent a squad that we had to steal to find and only have one player on that squad on this team. What does this all mean in soccer terms? Mostly, we should beat the teams below us in rankings but lose to the teams above us. If there is a team near our ranking (let's say within 15 ranks) we should probably also lose to them as well.

The 1st 2 matchdays were against August Islands, ranked 235 and Captina Island ranked 59. We beat August Islands, and fairly convincingly too, winning 5-2 with 3 first half goals, having a 4-0 lead before shipping two back and finally Floren scoring a late stoppage time winner as a traditional sub despite not being in the squad keeping his streak of scoring in World Cup qualifying campaigns alive. Meanwhile, we lost to Captina Island in a game we were thoroughly outplayed and looked out of place. Sure the score reads 3-2 but we were down 3-0 until a goal in the 75th and then a true consolation in stoppage time made the game looked better for us.

We'll use xG to show what we mean: against August Islands, Milchama had 4.7 xG, so more or less performed as expected. We shot how we were supposed to shoot. Against Captina Island, the Warriors only had .68 xG. In other words, maybe enough to for 1 goal but certainly not enough for two. In general, Milchama were thoroughly outplayed and really didn't deserve a 1 goal loss. This is about expected value. So our qualifying campaign stays in neutral we will get our third place finish and lose in the playoffs and stay there forever.

You know we should really get to our domestic system, there might be something there. It's not a bad idea you know...

The Daily Surisian
Despite Great Start, Eagles Fall To Flavovespia

It is worth noting that, perhaps, the name Flavovespia holds somewhat less cache in the Osnari Federation than in the rest of the sporting world. This is not, mind you, an insult to the Flavovespians. Rather, it is representative of a sporting culture that for the entirety of its existence has looked inward rather than outward. Rather than the World Cup Final, it was the Cup of Osnar Final that mattered most to the Osnari sports fan. The IFCF Champions League? No, the Osnari Eliteliga. But as the Eliteliga submitted its best to the IFCF for the first time, and the Osnari Eagles national team was conceived, formed, and entered into the World Cup Cycle, suddenly Osnari fans have received a crash course on who the really notable teams are. Over the last couple of years, it’s one name that comes up time and time again. Flavovespia. World Cup Champions. CAFA Cup Champions. The #1 Ranked Team In The World. Osnari fans don’t know all that much about international football, but they do know that those are some pretty impressive accolades.

So when it was announced that the fellow Anaian side would be coming to the Osnari Federation for the very first match of World Cup Qualifiers, those tickets were gone in a matter of seconds when they went on sale. The Eagles’ WCQ debut against the best team in the world was set to play out in front of 60,000 screaming fans in that most historic of Osnari stadiums, the Osnarstadion. What a way to start things off.

What a way, indeed. The Flavovespian national team has clearly played in tougher, louder, tenser environments before. Such as, you know, the World Cup Final. So their start to the match cannot be attributed simply to tension, or surprise, or circumstances. Most likely, these juggernauts of football simply had a lot of rust to knock off after not playing together for a while. While they were on break or with their club sides, the Eagles were out proving their mettle in the Baptism of Fire not too long ago. The home advantage of an excited, hyped crowd on top of that cannot be understated.

When the Eagles spent much of the first ten minutes of the match on the attack, the atmosphere started to feel magical. When the youngster Liam Homberger cleaned up a loose ball in front of the net in the eleventh minute to give the Eagles the lead on the defending World Cup Champions, it seemed the Osnari Federation was on its way to a transcendent victory. The excitement was palpable, and it may be said that the Osnarstadion has never seen a more deafening moment. Asked after the match about it, Homberger smiled just a little. “Quite the environment for my first national team goal,” said the youngster.

But these are the World Cup Champions. Flavovespia has faced worse, and it will do so again. The ensuing 80 minutes saw nothing but dominance by the visitors. The final scoreline belies the nature of the match; rather than nearly running out with a draw, the Eagles were lucky to be within three goals, let alone just one. The Osnari attack was brutally and effectively choked out. The defense, shredded. The only saving graces for the Eagles were the midfield and Loris Rosli in goal. Rosli shut down several attacks with his aggressive play, while the four men in midfield, though pushed well back from their typical marauding style, kept the attacks from coming too often and did a surprisingly good job keeping the ball in the middle third.

But despite those bright spots, it wouldn’t be nearly enough to keep the Eagles on top. Hopes of a win drew to a close with the first half, as Peter Langdon slashed through an Osnari defense that gave him a bit too much space in the 44th minute, curling the ball around a forward-positioned Loris Rosli and in for the equalizer. Hopes of a point were dashed early in the second half, as Charles Shepherd found Peter Langdon in space yet again in the box, and the striker put a power shot past Rosli high and in for the lead and the brace in the 58th minute.

The fans quieted down quite a bit after that, but still made their presence clear, advocating for a red on Flavovespian Paul Amos when he brought down Jost Blum with a hard tackle just outside the box. Amos received a yellow and the Eagles a free kick. The home crowd held their breath, started to shout as Werner Werren put a beautiful shot up just like he had against Epicly Amazing Giraffes in the final matchday of the Baptism of Fire. But Peter Marriott made the save, punching the ball over the goal and finally puncturing the fight of the Eagles, who barely ventured over the midfield line for the rest of the match.

In a sense, it’s a victory for the Eagles. They know now that they can hang with the best in the world with some luck and a very good day. But nevertheless, the team seemed quite dejected after the match while answering questions from reporters. More entertaining were the fans, who walked out of the Osnarstadion like they had just won - shouts of “Osnar vor!”, cheers, and waving banners were all to be seen after the match. So the Eagles, despite the loss, should hold their heads high. There are, after all, seventeen more chances to win in these Qualifiers, and there will be another chance to knock off the defending champs, this time at their stadium. But for now, the Eagles should focus on the next match - a visit to 98th-ranked United Hawkland. An upset there would be huge for the qualifying campaign, proving that a placement in the top half of the group might just be possible.

ReemSports: World Cup Coverage

Matchday 1: VS. The North Polish Union

The dreams of making it to the 99th World Cup for the first time stay alive for now, but the Natkrian national team finds themself in an unpretty corner after an unexpected start to their qualification campaign. The opening two fixtures of the tournament, an unexpected deserved 1-1 draw against the stable North Polish Union and a close stoppage-time winner which resulted in a 2-1 loss to the Kytler Peninsulae, have left the entire squad stunned with just one point earned from what we were supposed to accomplish. The growing pressure is unbelievable, and everyone now turns their attention to the new challenges against Kimi-Suomi and Alanis Star in the wacky adventures of World Cup qualifying.

The first qualifying group-stage (Group 13) match against the North Polish Union, which was an away game for Natkr, was the first match since last year that Natkr had extremely trained for. The opening moments of the match were dominated by the North Polish midfield holding possesion and preparing attacking play. Natkr’s defensive line of 3, led in the back by Captain Mason Riley, was constantly met with several shots and attacking threats, with Ethan Carter (2x Natkr Prime League Keeper of the Year making several saves to keep them off our back. The North Polish Union’s main attacker, Marek Zawadzki, proved to be a pain in the butt, constantly attacking Natkr's defense with 7 shots made and was a crucial part of The North Polish Union's counter-attack.

Despite the North Polish Union attack scare, the Natkrian team showed complete tiki-taka football by "being in the zone" on the counter-attack. A moment of speed and dribbling from 17-year-old winger, Henry Smith (OOC: our Lamine Yamal basically), saw him drift like a car past the midfield before hitting a top-bin shot that found the back of the net, giving Natkr a lead in a game led by the North Polish. Natkrian away supporters unleashed the celebrations and the Natkrian wave, a powerful reminder of Natkr in the face of the whole stadium.

However, the 1-0 start before halftime was short-lived. The North Polish Union, cheered on by the entire stadium, improved their outfield by subbing off a few players. A stupid free-kick given away by Ezra Vale, awarded just outside the box, led to the eventual 1-1 draw, due to a cheeky header from Feliksas Rupšas that left Carter with no chance to save it. The full-time whistle rang, which brought a fresh sigh for Natkr, as they gained a point at least, but also a reminder that the games aren't going to get any easier than this. The draw, while not a loss, felt like a missed opportunity to start the group on a high note. Oh, well. Let's see what happens tomorrow..

Matchday 2: VS. The Kytler Peninsulae

The second qualifier, a home game in Skyhold against the Kytler Peninsulae, was supposed to be Natkr’s chance to change their last result around and make a huge upset. The Kytler squad has just recently lost almost all their squad in a airplane disaster, and called up new players to the international stage which Natkr were sure they could cruise through. However, the match exposed how vulnerable Natkr's squad is through their football play to their opponents. The Kytler Peninsulae, with their unstoppable passing and swift movement as we studied previously, intercepted all balls earned by Natkr's usually disciplined midfield of Rodriguez, Murphy, and Hatfield. Zachary Edwards-Hillier, surprised everyone yesterday, including the newly formed Kytler Peninsulae qualifying team. He orchestrated their attacks perfectly with no rest for him as he was always making an effort, pushing the Natkrian defense up out of their position to create dangerous spaces for the team to benefit from.

Natkr found themselves chasing their own teammates for much of the first half. A mistake between defender Elmer Webb and GK Ethan Carter saw the Kytler Peninsulae take an lead in the 38th minute, a beautiful chip goal scored by their young, but clumsy striker Charles Packard after a pass from the end of the pitch reached him. The mostly Natkrian crowd, at first cheering and filling the stadium with noise, grew restless after a terrible first-half by their own home team. Coach Kyes Weah attempted to change his formation at halftime, telling the team to keep Kytler offside and deny Mr. Zachary touches on the ball.

The second half saw a determined Natkr side, though not fully "locked in". Natkr pushed up forward, creating a few short chances, but the Kytler Peninsulae’s defense remained in charge of their side. A spark of hope lit up in Natkrian fans' hearts when a penalty was awarded to Natkr after a challenge in the box by Roddens City's Vaulto. Silverbacks FC's Henry Henderson (Golden Boot Winner) stepped up to take the penalty and coolly converted it with a Panenka down the middle, making the score 1-1, and potentially lighting hope for a home-game winner.

Yet, the joy of the penalty slowly shifted. Just minutes after the equalizer, a moment of brilliance by Sylvia Villa Rodriguez started the counter-attack by The Kytler Peninsulae. Picking up the ball deep from her own half, she started on a surprisingly terrifying run, juking tackles like they were nothing before shooting in the left corner from outside the box that found the back of the Natkrian net in the 88th minute. It was an exceptional goal that even made the Natkrian crowd say "WOAHH" and changed the game from 1-1 to 2-1. The 2-1 loss was a bitter end to the game, especially knowing that Natkr could have prevented that goal, leaving Natkr 7th at the bottom of Group 13 with just one single point. Sigh.

The aftermath of the Kytler Peninsulae loss has seen intense discussions and talks between the Natkrian squad. Coach Kyes Weah has reportedly held individual meetings with the front three of Natkr (Henry Smith, Henry Henderson, Elijah Hernandez), talking about the need for the team, especially the trio to focus on teamwork and using their attacking skills to the best of their ability. The post-match physical conditioning, while being hard on the team, is also being reintroduced to ensure players can maintain fitness and total football for the full 90 minutes against future group games and opponents.

Looking ahead in the week, Natkr faces two crucial matches that could change their qualification status in the group. First up is Kimi-Suomi, a team known for being solid in defense and a team that uses oppressive football against other teams. Usually, matches against Kimi-Suomi have been pretty tight games, as they are 92nd in the world, often decided by a little goal or a moment of stupid errors between rivals. Natkr will need to break down a well-organized defense in Kimi-Suomi while remaining careful of any attack buildup play.

Following Kimi-Suomi, Natkr will face Alanis Star. Alanis Star presents Natkr with a different kind of challenge, often playing with a high tempo and relying on their pace, strength, and team love. Weah's strategy and vision for this match will likely just be on controlling our midfield this time and destroying absolutely any defensive slack-offs and exposures that Alanis Star’s aggressive attack might create. The physicality of Natkr is expected to be on top as they get ready to get back to football action.

The squad's spirit and focus, though slowly being chipped off, are actively being managed by the coaching staff. Experienced players like David Lopez and Henry Henderson are playing a huge mentorship role in keeping the team in high spirits, reminding them of the dream of the World Cup. The important focus now is on fixing the defensive openings exposed in the first two matches and finally finding an attacking rhythm between the front trio. The next two matches for Natkr will be important decisions to at least make the top three in our group to qualify for the World Cup.

The enormous pressure from the entire country of Natkr is crazy. The fans back home understand the difficulty of Group 13 for Natkr's enjoyment, but expectations for a World Cup spot still remain high. ReemSports is simulating record viewership for these upcoming qualifiers, with dedicated analysis from Marco Jansf of Penguin City and updates being prepared before every match to capture every moment of Natkr’s qualifying journey on ReemSports and Reem+.

For the gaffer Kyes Weah and his squad, the task is simple, yet clear: learn from Natkr's previous mistakes, change their style of football, and show the world what truly defines Natkrian football. These next two games are not just about points; they are about proving that Natkr belongs in this tournament and (hopefully) on the top of the group. Our World Cup hope hangs in this campaign, and every pass, every tackle, every shot will carry the weight of Natkr's dream.

Naked News Jeruselem's Princess Alice Stella Dallas (naked) and a middle aged woman at Dazza Dallas Stadium surrounded by kids

Alice:
Hello! This is Princess Alice Stella Dallas for Naked News Jeruselem. It's World Cup 90 time for real, and we're home at Dazza Dallas Stadium for the first qualification game of this world cup. We've got a packed stadium here and I'm with the host of Jeruselem TV show Football Mums, Alix Dee, which is a show about football and motherhood. Just incidentally Alix is just another version of Alice. So how are things?

Alix: Busy as always, you're a Mum. You should know.
Alice: Before everyone starts to comment, these kids are just a rent a crowd for amuse people. We didn't make these ourselves. Except one of those is mine.
Alix: Some of those are mine so I just added to it.
Alice: It's a perfect day for football here, err … except it kinda rained early. Other than that, nothing abnormal.
Alix: Weather's been a bit weird lately

Alice: Today our first hosting was with guests Sudilia, of which we don't know a lot about. It's their first time here I think but didn't go digging that far back to see if they have played before. Not that it makes a real difference.
Alix: I guess We'll find out more about them we visit them later. Well not me.
Alice: I know there's a joke here but Sudilla are ranked above us, at 69.
Alix: Oof
Alice: Well, the good news is Jeruselem beat the higher ranked Sudilia 3-2! They were probably expecting to beat us given our shit rank but we're Jeruselem. We're no ordinary team.
Alix: We still looked a little rusty out there

Alice: Hey, we'll take the 3 points. First game is always one even the top teams sometimes lose.
ALix: It's good to see team off to a good start anyway.
Alice: I'm sure even Sudilia were a bit rusty so them losing to us wasn't an emergency, takes a few games get back into some kind of system.
Alix: I'm sure they know we weren't some random nobody team, we can be rather unpredictable.
Alice: Green shoots but we can't be complacent, there's plenty of football left. We have to host the 24th seed Eshialand next, that one is real challenge. They are 2nd best seeds in the group.
Alix: A Baptism of Fire as they say.

Alice: Group 4 had other games of course. Eshialand hosted veterans Quakmybush, Quakmybush got out it with 1-1 draw. Good result for Quakmybush, not for Eshialand.
Alix: We will refrain from bush jokes please
Alice: She hosts a family friendly show, compared to ours.
Alix: Alice is a bit of pervert as you know.
Alice: Well, Busoga Islands had to face the groups top seed Juvencus first game, They were hosting but made no difference they lose 2-0.
Alix: I guess they got that game out of the way first.

Alice: Kwrpania burst out with huge 6-3 win over Pakhomiya at home. I guess they cannot be dismissed given scoring 6 goals in your first game is pretty impressive
Alix: Our problem is we don't really do that a lot
Alice: Tevuekk hosted Valentine Z and got nothing as they lost 2-0.
Alix: Aren't they unranked.
Alice: I guess that's why they'll have trouble all cup. It's hard to get anyway from being unranked.
Alix: Good luck to them.

Alice: Football mothers are an important part of football, they help raise the next generation of football players. Obviously, I'm part of that but the kids need the support of parents to achieve their dreams.
Alix: Some of my kids are having a go but I don't think I have any World Cup quality talent in my household at the moment.
Alice: You never know, let them try. They can always do something else. They don't need to actually playing on the field.
Alix: I don't think my genes are helping them much on that front
Alice: You never know, genetics are funny like that.
Alix: As a mother, you can only encourage them. Sometimes it's not enough. But you can't make things happened as you want.

Alice: Yeah like us winning the World Cup, but anyway
Alix: Before anyone asks, I know her Mum.
Alice: The important thing is letting the kids do their best, even if their best may not result in the final wanted result.
ALix: They need to find out themselves because that's called learning, something that happens even we're older. We're always learning new things.
Alice: The world always throws something at us different every day, nothing is fixed in time.
Alix: For sure

Alice: That's it from Naked News, Jeruselem wins it's first qualification game at home. We are hosting Eshialand next game, that one you don't want to miss. We might not win that one but not that we have a choice when we play them.

"We got them EXACTLY where we want them."

"Do we?," an intern asked.

"NO! Of course not. I figured we'd be tied for first but I never expected the defending world champions to NOT be one of those teams after only two matches." FZF President Killian had taken a full day to try and comprehend the opportunity given to his nation. Zys and the Survivors had done their job flawlessly: a solid 2-0 victory over United Hawkland followed by a 6-2 cruisin' past unranked REPUBLICANLAND. With those results, a three or four way tie for first amongst Zenic, Flavovespia, then either Zwangzug and / or Indusse was the expectation. Flavovespia not being amongst that group was not even in the calculations LITERALLY. Killian could show everyone the charts and spreadsheets.

"Sorry about that. I got caught off guard with that question. I didn't mean to yell at you." The intern briefly smiled, appreciative of the gesture, before returning to his 'business' look. "So, what exactly is the problem, sir?" Killian inhaled sharply, paused for ten seconds, and then exhaled.

"Perception."

"Perception?"

"Perception." Killian allowed the word to linger for a bit before elaborating. "The media are like vultures and a private eye fused into one. They scavenge for just one tiny morsel and can extrapolate that into a story worthy of awards. Even if the conclusion they arrive at is false, they make it believable enough to cast doubt on those who know the true story. I need to make sure that, when they start pestering me with questions during press conferences and while I'm out and about, I am ready to put on a face and tone that says 'I am appropriately excited to be in this position but am also cautious and ready to qualify in any position.' The intern was a tiny bit perplexed. "And why don't you just put on that exact face?"

"Because I am excited for the fortune we've been dealt but....I want more. I want us to stay in the top 3 the entire qualification process. I want us to finish ahead of the defending world champions. I want to FEEL like we are an actual contender. Alas, if I exude that, those heathens will concoct some kind of story about my ass is secretly on the line and if we don't go incredibly far in the knockout rounds of the World Cup, I'm fired. Or even one about me actually having no confidence in Zys and secretly hoping we collapse so I can fire him and hire someone from abroad." The intern looked a bit concerned. "Even if we do collapse, you won't be hasty and fire Zys immediately, right?"

Killian gave a sassy look to the intern. "No, of course not. Even the greatest national team managers of all time have had shockingly bad cycles before regrouping and getting back up to their high standard the following cycle. I would prefer not to have to worry about that but I'm doing my best to be prepared for anything. Even though we have Zwangzug and the upstart Osnari Federation coming to the Philosophia during the next window."

"Do you think we'll win both?" Killian knew that his aspirations hinged on getting almost all possible points from the first half of qualification. He also knew it would be a tough double feature since the two upcoming squads were polar opposites: Zwangzug play a more cautious style while Osnari like to go on the assault as often as they can afford to. If Zys could find the right balance, Zenic could come away with a full 12 out of 12 points after 4 games.

"Yes, I think we can." Whether they actually do so is another question entirely.

Pêl-droed a Phethau Eraill

A blog by Thomas Blayney

I don't quite know why I'm writing this. No one's going to see it, not unless I decide to unprivate it one day. But that'd get me fired, quite frankly, and as much as my new gig at the GDW irritates me I'd rather not go back to the blogging mines 6 months into my first prestige media job. I'm writing this for me. Maybe I'll unprivate it if things get worse.

Anyway… Here's a quick rundown of my career so far: I started blogging about football 6 years ago, when I was in the 10th grade. I was frustrated about the lack of media coverage that our football scene gets in this country and since I watch all the games online, I figured I'd write about tactics, up-and-coming players, transfer news, that sort of thing. I slowly built up a small audience of Warku football fans and overseas obsessives who seem to know everything about every league in the world. About two years ago, Warkus' entry into the World Cup Qualifiers – for the first time in forever – was announced. A year later and the GDW – our national broadcaster – offered me a junior role to write about football and get paid for it. My dream job, really.

So about a month ago, the sports writing team got their World Cup assignments. Naturally I wanted to be the one covering the matches, writing post-match reports and doing live pieces to camera talking tactics to the masses. But I knew that was unlikely. If I was going to appear on camera, it'd be as the 'tactics guy' that pops up every now and then to annoyingly bring up some irrelevant stat. Maybe I wouldn't even be on camera, maybe I'd just be feeding those useless stats to the presenter through an earpiece. No one ever emailed me about travel, so I knew I'd be staying home. I figured I'd be asked to write some analysis-style articles after the big games, or at least do some research for the senior writers (who, to be frank, don't care about this sport in the first place). Disappointing, but not unexpected.

Except that's not what happened. Instead, I found out that I'd been asked to cover, of all things… a 'grand interdisciplinary conference on football'. An academic conference. On football. I have to go listen to a bunch of professor discuss 'the ethics of supporting your national football team', 'the ontology of football clubs', 'the physiology of the beautiful game' and other talks that'd make good material for a baby's bedtime playlist. No wonder everyone thinks we're a pretentious nation when our national broadcaster is so concerned with the supposed 'insights' of academics on international football. The worst part of it all is that everyone else covering the qualifiers sucks at it. One of my colleagues wrote an article about our new kit and not a single mention of our older kits, like the iconic Kirola Sportswear jerseys from the 63rd World Cup. Just a really basic explainer talking about how the new kit references our national colours – yes, I'm sure everyone needed an article to know what our flag looks like.

I would've liked to write about the thrilling 5-3 loss against World Cup 83 winners Equestria. We were getting slaughtered at the start, but persevered with our offensive front line press to claw things back. Siôr Castell nabbed a brilliant goal from a free kick while Llewelyn Rose managed to get two by capitalising on mistakes made by the Equestria centre-backs. Somehow the 0-0 draw against Hispinas saw more shots by both sides but no goals. Everyone else in the country is acting like it was a close game, but the shots don't tell the whole story. We were lucky to get a draw, as Hispinas saw more clear-cut chances whereas our shots never looked threatening.

That's probably enough sulking for now. Here's hoping we don't get smashed by badly by the 9th ranked former champions Farfadillis in the next game.

Sold to Kanzlia as RESURGENCE, 8.5.1963
Scrapped 11.11.1989

Kanzlia signed an international goodwill agreements with multiple nations in 1949 which in the minds of many Kanzlians guaranteed peace in their time. Thus the 1945 fleet plan which envisioned 6 light cruisers was modified to reflect Kanzlia's commitment to peace. As the Voorzichtigheid-class had already been completed by the time of the 1949 Treaties, the complimenting light cruiser class was reduced from three ships to just one.

The supposed Prime Minister-class was initially envisioned to be a heavily armed screening ship to protect Kanzlia's heavier ships, therefore they had a slower speed compared to the Voorzichtigheid-class, 30 knots compared to 33, and a significantly lower range at 4000 nautical miles compared to 8000. The class boasted the same 150mm arsenal of 4 triple gun turrets (this time with its elevation issues fixed from the start), but lost its torpedo and secondary armaments in exchange for greater AA cover. It's armour was slightly better.

KNS Crysencio te'Kotr was commissioned on June 1950 and due to its assignment as a battleship companion, she was a rare sight in the public eye. In 1956, due to Kanzlia's decommissioning nearly their entire battlefleet, the Crysencio te'Kotr was refitted to become a command ship where she lost her superfiring gun on her bow in order to expand her bridge. Crysencio te'Kotr would be reclassified as a command ship in 1959.

When the Kanzlian Collapse hits, the Kanzlian government sold off several warships and KNS Crysencio te'Kotr was sold to South Newlandia as the Defence in 1960. The Defence primarily spent its short military service in South Newlandia as a tourist attraction and starring in films. In 1965 with Kanzlia recovering from the collapse, the Defence was bought back by the Kanzlian government (important distinction from the Kanzlian Navy). After a radical suggestion from a Triewaal based ice cream entrepreneur, the ship was converted into a floating ice cream ship with help from South Newlandia. Aside from retaining her aftmost triple turret as a statement piece, all of her weaponry was removed, and her superstructure was slightly expanded to house an onboard factory capable of producing nearly 1,000 litres of ice cream per hour.

In its new role as a mobile confectionery, the Resurgence was highly popular among Kanzlian kids and sailors. They were adored so much, the Resurgence began annual cruises around the coastlines of multiple countries starting in 1969, including notably its 2nd home, South Newlandia. The ice cream cruises would regularly produce 100,000 liters in ice cream of various flavours from vanilla, peanuts, chocolate, and cherry tart. The Resurgence made her last ice cream cruise in November 1989 starting in South Newlandia and ending in Kotr where she was officially decommissioned to an audience of 30,000 people.

Gale Briseur, the new manager for the ÉNRF, was thrilled to have two victories to start off his first World Cup qualifying campaign. Certainly, they'd been against teams ranked far lower than Reçueçn, but with an entirely new squad for the équipe nationale, no one had been sure what to expect. As for the low scores in the two games, Briseur couldn't care less. Reçuecians were used to low-scoring games. If the commentators wanted to say that it was looking less like Reçueçn's classic strong defense and more like a weak attack, Briseur was happy to let them entertain themselves. Results were results.

No, Briseur wasn't worried about words or opinions. He was focused on the upcoming games. A match against Kelssek was looming, and his hastily-assembled squad needed to be at its best. Briseur was trying to keep morale high. With soccer grinding to a halt across Reçueçn as the players' strike had spread from the ÉNRF to the LNRF, the mood in the nation—and in Les Licornes' locker room—was glum.

Briseur had hoped that the league would be able to go on, to distract the boys on his squad from the way the whole nation seemed to deride them for breaking the strike. But the strike had become so widespread that the LNRF had announced there would not be a regular season this year. They said that if an agreement was reached quickly, perhaps some sort of abbreviated competition could be held, but there seemed to be only a slim chance of that happening. In fact, the strike was still gearing up, with both the federation and the strikers digging in their heels. Not only had most of the players joined the strike, but even the management of some clubs had taken a stand against the FNRF.

The federation was furious. Briseur had received multiple calls from FNRF executives after the wins against Ralsalin and Wentzville, telling him that the équipe nationale was all they had left. "You're the only person I get any good news from anymore," Yves Sabatier had told Briseur. "Everywhere else, everything is going to shit." Briseur wasn't sure things weren't going to shit for Les Licornes, too. When he talked to the team, he didn't get the responses he hoped for.

He'd tried giving a rousing speech in the locker room at the Stade National at half-time during the Wentzville game, when the score was still a frustrating zero-zero. That was what good managers, did, right, inspire the team? It hadn't worked.

"You are the true saviors of Reçueçn," Briseur had said to the players. "You are underappreciated now, but the nation is going to recognize that you are the only men who were willing to stand up on its behalf. They may hurl slurs at you, call you scabs and traitors, but they will see that really, you are the only ones that have stayed true. You're not scabs—you are heroes!"

But the team was unimpressed. "It's okay, coach," Lemoine had said. "You don't have to twist the truth. We are scabs. But we can accept that. If we weren't fine with it, we wouldn't be here."

"Have some pride in yourselves!" Briseur insisted, and he looked around the locker room for support. But he was met only with resigned stares.

"Maybe you don't want to be a villain, coach," Di Fiore said. "But the rest of us don't have the same obsession with maintaining the moral high ground here. This was our chance to get something we always wanted—the money, the fame—and if the only way I could get it was going behind the back of a better player when he went on strike, I don't have a problem with that."

Briseur bit his lip. Maybe he could talk a bit more self-respect into this squad, but not in the five minutes he had left before it was time for the second half. For now, he had to play along.

"Y'know what," he said, "that's a great fighting attitude. I love that spirit. 'We know what we want, and we're willing to do what it takes to get it.' That's wonderful. If you can play that way for the next forty-five minutes, that's all I can ask for."

It was Di Fiore who took the ball from a Wentzville defender with a tackle that should have been a yellow card. But the ref didn't see it. Di Fiore buried the ball in the back of the net. He pointed to Briseur, standing in the technical box on the sidelines, and yelled.

"We take what we want!"

PARADYSTOPIA'S FIRST FOOTBALL VICTORY

A short story for children
by
Error Message

Once upon a time, in a land far away
Was a country with penguins who wanted to play
A sport they called football upon the big stage
But they couldn't succeed, which caused an outrage

Then entered a fantastic and brave handsome man
He came with a dream, an unbeatable plan
He was skillful, intelligent, agile and quick
And blessed with a truly, unbelievably long ...

"Error, what is this drivel? And please tell me the next word is not what I think it's going to be ..."
"Well, I was thinking 'blessed with a truly, unbelievably long life' but it kind of messes up the rhyming structure. Why? What did you think?"
"... nevermind."
"Furry fluff. I mean, initially I was going to go with 'dick', but it doesn't seem appropriate for a kid's book. Or does it?"

Iona groaned. It was true that the Paradystopi team had just recorded their first win, and it should be means for celebration. Snatching a 1-0 victory away to a squad who sat just outside the top 100 in the rankings was a testament to their progress. There was however, one problem. Error was the goalscorer which further fueled his hubris over being the team's top goalscorer. When you add in the fact that Iona was supposedly the team's striker, and she should be the one grabbing the goals, it stung a little.

When you add in the fact that Error had mopped up a mistake from her to score with a volleyed rabona, from outside the box, it was damn near unbearable.

Error's first goal had been a somewhat clumsy affair. Unlike their friendly against Edsmontik who had held the ball within their midfield, building pressure in a methodical and structured way. Tikariot had been very different in that they had come out swinging; dangerous and unpredictable like a toddler with a firearm. It took barely 10 minutes for Daniel Sankalin to ripple the net after Sjiu was overburdened with the sheer amount of shots raining in on her from every conceivable angle. Paradystopia attempted to rally and at least one or two of Hleqrru's mazey dribbles made it into Tikariot territory before the defence clamped him down with ruthless efficiency. By the half-hour mark, it seemed clear that this was going to be a rout. Between Sjiu's lightning reactions and reflexes, and the chaotic nature of the Paradystopi pitch causing frustration amongst the Snowy Owls, there was little else preventing the scoreline being infinitely more one-sided.
It was in the 31st minute that Tikariot did the unthinkable, they slotted a deadball opportunity past Sjiu. Whether Caitlin Arrakan was aiming for the far top corner with her long range free kick, or it had been a slightly wayward cross, it was difficult to tell. Sjiu had charged out to challenge the attackers in the box, she leapt, the ball floated just above her outstretched paw before pinging off the top of the left upright into the back of the goal. 2-0, and Paradystopia deflated. They hobbled through to the half-time break without conceding further and tried to think of a way to regroup.
Rhoderick made the bold move to replace Karen with Olii at half-time in the hope he could link up with Hleqrru in the middle. The xat' had been Paradystopia's beacon of hope in the outfield during the first 45, the only player who had really challenged the Snowy Owls in open play and maybe two of them out there could cause some trouble in the midfield. Tikariot also made several changes at the half, many of their top players not seemingly wanting to risk injury on the treacherous Paradystopi turf this close to their World Cup Qualifying campaign. Surely, with a bolstered outfield, and a diminished opposition, things would be easier?

In a word, no.

Tikariot's youthful changes were also looking to prove themselves, hoping to gain the attention of their manager and potentially improve their positions in the roster. Thus, the onslaught continued. However, maybe it was the pitch causing issues again, maybe having two xat'i in the centre mopping up loose balls gave Paradystopia a slight defensive edge, maybe it was Sjiu, yet again, putting in a godly performance between the sticks, but Tikariot didn't quite have the same sharpness in the second half. Sure, they were still battering the home team's defence relentlessly but now the momentum had shifted from 'They're gonna score' to 'They're probably gonna score'.
Another 45 brutal minutes passed with the score unbelievably stuck at 2-0. Enthusiasm had waned for the attacking team, frustration had crept in. The pitch was granting them no favours, the xat' in the Paradystopi net refused to let anything past her, and those damn penguins were being a nuisance. Then Markus Sivertstrand came in a little too awkwardly on Trevor, granting Paradystopia a free-kick.
Kiaran Schlippe saw his chance, and quickly took the kick, lofting it over the opposition's midfield and releasing Hleqrru into space against a switched off Tikariot defence. The counter-attack was on. Olii charged to keep pace with his xat' brethren, providing the support for the one-two and Iona Schlippe and Error Message were also in hot pursuit, making it essentially a four-on-four with the Snowy Owls' defenders. Hleqrru passed it off to Olii, expecting the ball back as he dashed onwards towards the goal. Olii, instead opted to leave it for Iona. Iona instead played the ball through to Hleqrru, who was now desperately arching his run to try and avoid the offside trap. The pass was slightly overhit, and came rapidly towards Hleqrru at an awkward height. He attempted to head it towards goal as he entered the penalty area.
On any normal field, the keeper would've gratefully gathered up this attempt. But this was no normal field. The low header struck a divot, forcing Magdelena von Yxkull into an impressive reaction save. From her hand the ball struck a further divot, wrong footing the retreating defender and sending the ball into the path of Error who smashed home an incredibly fortunate series of events into a mostly empty goal. He then proceeded to scream 'Yoghurt Power!' at the top of his lungs, as he was still adamant he was playing against 'Chicken Tikka Rice Hot' and that one can nullify a spicy curry with some chilled dairy.
International Friendly
. Paradystopia 1-2 Tikariot
Message 90'+2 Sankalin 10'
Message 90'+2 Arrakan 31'

Whilst Error's first Paradystopi goal was clearly a product of immense good fortune concerning the location of various divots, his second was ridiculously skillful. Whether he had intended what he had achieved was a different matter entirely but for now, he asserted that he had meant to do what had happened.
Yuugria seemed pallid for much of the game. Whether they didn't quite know how to deal with penguins and xat'i amongst their opposition, or whether they underestimated their unranked opposition, we may never know. What was apparent, was that they were letting the Paradystopi attack much more than they'd had opportunity to do so against Edsmontik, Tikariot, and even The Golden Harp.
Error was remarkably, proving himself very useful, and Yuugria couldn't seem to counteract him. According to Error, this was thanks to Pedro. Pedro being a scruffy-looking seagull whom Error had on a leash attached from his wrist to the bird's leg for the entirety of the game and who was occasionally swooping violently at the Yuugrian players.
According to Error, Pedro was his guardian angel; a visitor from the Dreamed Realm, here to grant him footballing talent.
According to anyone else in the Paradystopi team, Error, having endorsed a local company which produces a 'medicinal salt', had been indulging too much in aforementioned product and having astounding hallucinations.
Nevertheless, Error (and Pedro) were causing problems down the right wing for Yuugria.
It was around the 20 minute mark and Paradystopia had a corner on the left. The songs from the Yuugrian fans had dimmed as this was the culmination of some unusually adept Paradystopi pressure. Bortland flicked the ball into the box, Kiaran Schlippe had gone up for it at the near post, but it was over his head albeit travelling towards his sister Iona near the back of the six yard box. She jumped but made contact poorly amidst the Yuugrian defenders and the ball flew in the opposite direction of the goal. It was here that Error, waiting on the edge of the box with Pedro tugging at his leash, took his chance. Being slightly off-kilter to take the shot with his left foot due to Pedro's pull, he swung his right foot around behind, executed a perfect rabona on the volley, and drove the ball into the near top corner as the keeper, rooted to the spot, simply watched. 1-0 to Paradystopia.
From that point on, Paradystopia shut up shop. Buoyed with the scent of victory, they held out and produced, what they hoped would be the first upset of many.

Dear Mr E.Message,

First and foremost, we here at Dr. Chonk's Patented Medicinal SaltTM would like to thank you most warmly for your gracious endorsement of our product. We are looking to expand our brand beyond the shores of Paradystopia and look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration with yourself and potentially others within the Paradystopi squad to facilitate this. However, certain matters have come to light that it would be remiss not to address at this stage of our partnership.

Whilst we acknowledge that your display during the football match between Paradystopia and Abanhfleft may have been an attempt at advertisement for Dr. Chonk's Patented Medicinal SaltTM, we foresee a negative reaction to the brand as a result. Surely you must accept that, after Hleqrru scored the opening goal to put us 1-0 ahead, baring your naked buttocks to the away fans whilst holding a packet of Dr. Chonk's Patented Medicinal SaltTM betwixt them and shouting 'You salty, bitches?!' is not the brand image that we are trying to cultivate. One might also assume that this act of antagonism led to the brace of goals from Bradley Aquino and thus contributed to Paradystopia's loss in this match, which given the late nature of Hleqrru's goal, could have been a poignant victory for our nation. Henceforth, we must strongly insist that you refrain from impromptu attempts at advertisement in the future.

Furthermore, Dr. Chonk's Patented Medicinal SaltTM has no interest in publishing, or indeed being mentioned in your book for children; 'Paradystopia's First Football Victory'. Here at Dr. Chonk's Patented Medicinal SaltTM, we do not wish to be associated with any literature which spends twelve pages making veiled references to the size of the author's genitalia regardless of the age of the target audience. If you do wish to seek alternative publication of this book, that is your prerogative, though we insist that you remove any mention of Dr. Chonk's Patented Medicinal SaltTM. For example, the line 'Dr. Chonk's keeps my dong long and strong' is again, at odds with our perception of a positive brand image. Should you proceed with publication without removing any and all references to Dr. Chonk's Patented Medicinal SaltTM, we shall be forced to terminate your contract and thereafter pass the matter on to our legal team.

Yours Sincerely

Victor Kuračić

SOLID

"I would say that is a solid couple of week's work!" Vicard exclaimed while at the conference room. Rien had the same optimistic outlook: "3/6 points on the surface is middle of the pack but those were the two hardest teams we have to face, I think that Chromatika win will give us a lot of momentum". Pierre Camanin then entered the conference room tea in hand. "The Edsmontik match was unfortunate, I think we played well but couldn't quite get the result we deserved there on the account of the high line just breaking down too much. The Chromatika match I have nothing to complain about, we went more direct and we defended like hell even when we were as aggressive as we were. It paid off very well I'd say"

"Next couple of matchdays are not as difficult but the boys should not know that" Pierre then continues: "There should not be any huge changes to the starting lineup for now". Rien interjects "Do we have any idea on how Moladea or Girinatha play, their formations...anything?" Pierre shuffled some papers in front of him but the profiles on those two nations were barren. "I don't think they have much on the docket here, albeit looking over the standings both are at the bottom". "What did we not get the team sheets?" "No apparently no one knows what they are fielding, I'm guessing it was a clerical error on their part." Vicard then exclaimed "Why are we here then! Lets get out of this stuffy room and loosen up! I know someone who needs it!" He looked directly at Pierre. "Yeah yeah lets go" Pierre said.

Rien asked Pierre "Hey you know any places around here?" "Yeah there is a place by the Lake Ramand". Pierre's home was also right by that lake in a remote part of Croux. The town was called Linforde and was a small community surrounded by Forests and a lake. The place Pierre talked about was called "Les Heures Quiy Passent" Or "The Passing Hours" a restaurant that was in walking distance of the lake. While they were enjoying their meal a drunk man walked up to them and started swing at Vicard. Vicard promptly picked up the man and threw him out of the place before going back to eat. Pierre laughed and Rien commented about it "You got experience on your side buddy?". Vicard just smirked and said "A bit". "You know he wasa unit in his day" Rien continued. Pierre acknowledged Rien and added "He's a man's man after all!" Vicard rolled his eyes but still smiled. Afterward the men left the bar and retired for the day.

Pierre woke up in a void. All he could hear was "Solid day" over and over again. Then the void changed into a sky then a cave and then back to a void again. Yet "Solid Day" kept repeating over and over and over. The scenery rapidly changed over and over from forests to cityscapes to beaches to tundras and then stopped at a beach with clear water but purple, almost twilight skies. The moon glowed and shimmered. Pierre then noticed the change in tone when he was in that Twilight-ish beach: instead of "Solid Day" it was more questioning "Solid Day?" "Solid Day?". Then he woke up in a cold sweat. There's something in the back of his mind telling him he did not do enough to prepare for the next match.

The next day he asked Rien "Hey did you find anything on our opponents yet?". Rien could only shake his head "Nothing but if it makes you feel better I have increased the intensity of the training to make up for it." Pierre could only look out on the field and wonder if it was enough scanning through every potential tactic he could. Pierre then calmed himself, his starting lineup has played well up until this point and they had an imposing presence up front. Not to mention the defense has improved after the lackluster performance at Edsmontik. He was worrying too much and Pierre later that night went fishing again.

One Two Off We Go

A short trip in Anaia set off Flavovespia World Cup 99 Qualifying Campaign. Away to The Osnari Federation, the Baptism of Fire 86 champions, this was setting the script nicely for an early “trap” game so to speak, one where there was a sense an upset could well happen. Hype in the Osnarstadion was incredible, a home debut in this tournament, to the defending world and regional champions, days the home fans love. For us away fans, a keen sense to try and enjoy the atmosphere, but more importantly, take the 3 points.

It was certainly a dream start for The Osnari Federation, the atmosphere in the ground lifting the team, as they began their debut World Cup Qualifying campaign. They attacked early, and Flavovespia looked unsettled. An attack in the 11th minute saw the ball bounce loose in the box, and Liam Homberger ran in and smashed it past Peter Marriott to give the hosts a shock early lead. Osnarstadion was bouncing, could the dream debut be on?

Flavovespia were rattled, but were fuelled up to get some goals. Going more direct to bypass a robust home midfield, Flavovespia were getting their attacking quartet into dangerous positions. Loris Rosli was in fine form in goal, if anyone was to win the game for The Osnari Federation, it’d be him. However Flavovespia scored at the worst time for The Osnari Federation. A bit too loose in defence, Peter Langdon breached the offside trap with a minute of the first half to go. Through on goal, even Rosli wasn’t keeping out his tidy shot, making it 1-1 at the break.

After the break, Flavovespia were refreshed and renewed. The Osnari Federation had just lost a bit of spark, and it was enough for Flavovespia to take control. It was the 58th minute when Flavovespia took the lead, Charles Shepherd laying the ball off to Peter Langdon, who with a powerful shot struck the back of the net cleanly. Nothing Rosli could do, and the lead was Flavovespia’s now. After some tough toil, they had the lead in this exciting encounter.

A spirited start for The Osnari Federation was unfortunately not enough to spark a comeback now they were behind. Flavovespia were in their stride, and did everything but score another to well and truly settle the nerves. The main moment of worry came late on, when Paul Amos slid into Jost Blum with some force. The hosts wanted a red, but it was only a yellow. Werner Werren produced a great free kick, but Peter Marriott an even greater save to keep the ball out. Another day and that’s the equaliser, but Flavovespia could breathe, as they finished the opening game with 3 points to start.

Humbling at Home

Well World Cup Qualifiers always bring upsets and this will be an iconic game for Xanneria. Flavovespia didn’t seem to get into top gear, and it cost them dearly, losing their home opener. Whether it was overconfidence, overfamiliarity, or just brilliance from Xanneria, early questions are raised of the holders.

Flavovespia and Xanneria certainly have a familiarity with each other in the domestic game. 8 Xannerians play in Flavovespia, including singer Colton Boyd-Church, one of the famous figures of the opposition side, and of Waldster. Older readers will also remember the attacking era of the FLOX Omega Division, always a fun league to catch highlights on. There was plenty of support for Xanneria here in Saints Park, but the home fans were also hyped up, this the first home game of the campaign for them.

For Flavovespia it was a confident start. Good passing, and play down the wings from Lane and Bagshaw was creating a lot of strife for Xanneria in their box. This would pay off, in the 20th minute, Anthony Lane produced a cross that split the centre backs, and Shepherd was in the gap. A clear header took the ball past the goalkeeper, and nicely into the net. 1-0 to Flavovespia, a good start rewarded for them. A good first half for Flavvoespia, but that was to be the only goal, as Xanneria kept the attacking hosts at bay, their defence and goalkeeper working hard, but working well.

Flavovespia however looked a bit stagnant coming out in the second half, and that was to be their undoing. Just off the hour mark, Paul Taylor was given the turn by a Xannerian forward. This created their first clear cut chance, and power and placement on the shot drove it past Peter Marriott, always rising but going under the crossbar, smashing into the underside of the net and securing the equaliser. Now it was 1-1, and Flavovespia had work to do.

Flavovespia were battling on, but Xanneria were giving nothing away, and the game was getting a bit leggy and stretched. Even Bagshaw was struggling to inspire anything, and a second win was looking less likely. Then, in injury time, the winner came. A corner was flung in, and up from the back came a Xannerian, scoring their first ever goal for the nation, with a header bundled past Peter Marriott. Jubilation for the Maroons and their fans, and Flavovespia left stunned. Xanneria grabbed a famous 3 points in injury time, and left Flavovespia on the wrong side of a dream result. An early setback for Flavovespia, as they aim to qualify for the World Cup and defend their title.

Edsmontik v. Auprussia
World Cup 99 Qualifiers - Matchday 1

Warmup - 3:10PM, Tuesday, 9/9/2031, Touve Suberarenae, Touve, Austrankank, Edsmontik

Thousands of Edsmons sit to watch the opening for Edsmontik.
Flags waving,
Horns blaring,
People cheering,
There was a lot going on.

On the pitch was the two teams, who were in the middle of warmups.
Looking up, you could see the World Cup 99 Promotions on the digital billboards.
"Watch the World Cup Qualifiers Live on Inter Sports Network"

Reus Aespana was just doing what he hoped would keep him in the starter spot.
But it only worked out sometimes.
The competition for being a left midfielder was oddly high.
He thought that it'd be a position that would have more action.
Like striker, or the forward positions like where Stuero and Svaardaen played at.

More forwards were chosen to play than left midfielders.
But according to what he heard, around a dozen left midfielders playing in Edsmontik's FDVL were eligible to have been chosen.
Reus was lucky, you could say.
The EFA had chosen to not pick any of the other eligible players.

Suddenly Dav der-Ghavyr's familiar shouts ran through the air.
Reus knew what time it was.
The Edsmons would be finalizing their attacking plan.
They'd also be getting ready for kickoff.

World Cup 99 Qualifiers - Matchday 1

Halftime - 4:23PM, Tuesday, 9/9/2031, Touve Suberarenae, Touve, Austrankank, Edsmontik

"Congrats, Eagles. We've gained a lead. But you've gotten very close to losing it."

Dav der-Ghavyr was much stricter than he had been with the Edsmon team.
Originally, he was supportive even when they lost the lead.
Now, he was pretty harsh when they did.
He commonly used Edsmontik's top ten World Ranking as an excuse for his unfriendliness.

"You have to understand that we are a top ten team. We can't give away a lead to a team that isn't as strong as us."

"Each and every one of you will ruin the chances if you give up leads like this!"

Dav's "motivational" speech was silencing the entire Edsmon squad.
No one wanted to stand up and tell him that what he was saying only hurt the team.
He didn't care if it was only halftime.
One mistake, and Dav was angry.

"Javarqa!"

Ivikt froze in place.
He was zoning out, and now he'd been knocked back to reality.

Everyone looked at Javarqa.
Beads of sweat slowly dripped down Ivikt's forehead.
Something was wrong.
He'd missed something.

"Why did you let Adalrisse just slide past you twice and shoot twice?!"

Javarqa did not know how to respond.
He was just nervous.
After a few seconds, he finally spoke.

"Coach, I don't think it was possible for me to have done anything more than what I did to try and stop the Auprussian striker. I tackled, but Adalrisse still snuck past me. I did the most I could under the pressure at that moment."

That was either a response that would end him or spare him.
As Dav stared at him, Javarqa began to contemplate what he said.

"That makes sense."

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Javarqa was not getting booted.
Or, so he hoped.

Edsmontik 0-0 Yuugria
World Cup 99 Qualifiers - Matchday 2

Second Half - 9:34AM, Saturday, 9/13/2031, Yuugria Home Stadium

"Why the HELL can we not score!?"

Edsmontik must have been cursed.
First, their manager goes angry and gets mad at every little mistake.
Second, Javarqa was told he'd be booted from the starting lineup and would be playing a substitute if he didn't perform well in Matchday 2.
Third, the Edsmon bus ran over a pothole and almost crashed.
And now fourth, they can't score against a side significantly weaker than Auprussia, their opponents the previous matchday.

Ivikt felt pretty lucky despite the goalless game so far.
He had managed to stop every Yuugrian ball and even blocked a header from their striker.
If he could just hold on, maybe der-Ghavyr would find him "useful" to keep on the team's starting lineup.

"it's just the second matchday" Javarqa told himself. "Even if I get booted, he'll put me back before qualifiers is over."

Javarqa raised his hand for a pass, and the ball went from Norseden to him.
He dribbled a bit, and listened out for calls.
Then, he fired it right up to an open Fruedenne.
The ball landed right at Lajiflak's feet.

"Perfect!" Javarqa thought. "No way will I be taken off now. A perfect pass, and a bunch of good defensive moments."

Javarqa looked on a Fruedenne pass to Utravak, who fired a powerful shot right into the corner.
The fans were getting louder, but the "awwww" suddenly erupted.
Even though he couldn't see, he knew that Utravak did not score.

It slowly started to rain.
Ivikt began to feel down.
Would Edsmontik end the second matchday with a scolding from der-Ghavyr?
Everyone hoped not.
But the rain seemed to be a result of what looked to be a draw very soon.

Not a good start

Caddo, Sabine and Caddonia - Like in World Cup qualifications 97, Nova Calania is having a bad start, but in Tapirs defense, their first two games this season were against HUElavia and Valanora. On matchday 1, Nova Calania received HUElavia at Complexe sportif national located in the Sacré-Coeur district of Saint-Jean-Jcques-sur-Mer. This district, also known locally as Sagrado Corazon, is home of the largest hispanophone diaspora in the United States of Nova Calania. HUElavia took the lead early, at the 10th minute when Ronaldo Arruda Barbosa kicked the ball past Serge Bleau-Bean. By the way, have you looked at Nova Calania's roster? They added players nicknames in the online version which I find confusing So, Serge Bleau-Bean's nickname is just Serge but others have more confusing nicknames, like Scarlett McCaskill, her nickname is Lettie! Nova Calania had a corner kick at the 13th minute and Nathan " Le général " Fauteux-McGrath kicks the ball, it goes directly into the net without touching anyone! HUElavia attacked at the 32nd minute when Ariane Mantovani dos Santos had the ball and made a cross to Ronaldo Arruda Barbosa who kicks and it's a goal. HUElavia was leading 2-1 at halftime.

Charlotte Gibouleau-Beaudoin had the ball at the 62nd minute and she made a short pass to Frédérique Goudreau-Luneau who kicks the ball past Thibault Ancel and the game was tied again. Los Amarillos took the lead at the 74th minute on a goal by Tomás Alcabú, who subbed in earlier. Frédérique Goudreau-Luneau tied the game again when she scored at the 83rd minute from a cross by Lily-Rose Malboeuf and the final score was a 3-3 draw.

On matchday 2, Nova Calania travelled to one of the greatest sporting nation in the multiverse, Valanora. No kidding, they're good at the sports we like the most in Nova Calania: Soccer, hockey and gridiron football. Rodrigo Guénette-Velazquez injured himself in the 1st half against HUElavia and was unavailable on matchday 2. Lily-Rose Malboeuf replaced him in the starting XI against Valanora. I didn't saw the game so I can't report on it. In fact, I'm still lost somewhere in the Eternal Empire or one of their territorial dependency. I'm actually in a town called Caddo, which I confused with Capri. Hopefully I'll be back in Nova Calania in time for game 3 against The Golden Harp.

Matchday 3 is a home game at Burnham Ground in West Burnham against The Golden Harp. West Burnham is the working class district of Burnham-on-Stove and is infamous for their hooligans. I doubt, however, that they will do anything against The Golden Harp. On week 4, the Tapirs will travel to Brusseldorf. Rodrigo Guénette-Velazquez will be unavailable against both teams. The starting XI for both games will be posted below. I've been invited at a press conference for a sponsor bid announcement next week in Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer . They didn't say much in the press communique so I have no idea who will bid. Anyway, I'd rather to stay home and drink my beers instead of going at a sponsor bid announcement.

Starting XI vs The Golden Harp @ Burnham Ground, Burnham-on-Stove
GK SERGE - LB ANNA - CB VLODZY - CB FX - RB EVAN - DCM GREGY - LW CHARLOTTE - RW ROSE - ACM YI MING - S LILY - S FRED

Starting XI @ Brusseldorf
GK SERGE - LB ALYSSA - CB VLODZY - CB GIBBY - RB NATEY - DCM LE GÉNÉRAL - LW MEI - RW ROSE - ACM CHARLOTTE - S LILY - S FRED

The Spenson Star

We sat down with Tandre Vusin-Jacques and Tinn Jejue to ask them about the start of the qualifying campaign!

Q: What did you think about visiting REPUBLICANLAND?

Tandre: It says in their motto, they like trains! Our country also loves trains! Even if we didn't have time to visit the smaller cities of "train station" and "Christians city," I think that their etymology bespeaks a commitment to religious sincerity and sustainable public transport. I find much to admire in this approach!

Tinn: The country's name being displayed in ALL CAPITALS, together with their capital city's name of TrumpLandia, suggests an immature and short-sighted jingoism for reasons that I will just scornfully insinuate by wiggling my eyebrows rather than explain. However, I was also deprived of the vindictive pleasure of unilateral scorn, by the disappointing fact that I too probably have many things in common with the REPUBLICANLANDian natives, which means that the smug cognoscenti who condescend to them would, given enough time and knowledge, also condescend to me, and therefore it is hypocritical in me to engage in such condescension myself.

Q: How do you think their side performed?

Tandre: For an unranked team, they were really keyed up and trying their best! The fact that #9 scored the opener and they led for the entirety of the first half just goes to show that you can't take anything for granted in this sport. I look forward to seeing their side develop in future matches, and who knows, maybe they'll even take points off of some of our rivals!

Tinn: They didn't even bother to inform us of their roster. Frankly, anything less than taking three points from them would have been embarrassing, even if my compatriots would never admit that because they love to self-righteously bend over backwards to pay lip service to competitive balance. I'm glad we didn't humiliate ourselves.

Q: What do you think of Bishen Varadarajan as the manager?

Tandre: I love the way he's so enthusiastic about baseball! Having an understanding and appreciation of other sports can help us forge friendships and rivalries with other countries that compete in different sporting tournaments. I hope his knowledge of advanced statistics will help us succeed!

Tinn: Who the fuck are we going to impress with his knowledge of baseball? Cassadaigua? South Newlandia? Yeah right. All his statistics are fake and dumb, and the only reason we put up with him is because he's better than [Mallory] Clighbar [of Ephesian FC].

Q: Zwangzug were drawn with both the defending World Cup champions, Flavovespia, and the Baptism of Fire champions, The Osnari Federation. Did you watch any of their tournament wins?

Tandre: Every team is gonna be drawn with an imposing first seed. Well, except for the first seeds themselves! I'll admit that, with Zwangzug not having qualified to the previous World Cup, I didn't follow it closely, but I understand it was a dynamic event filled with lots of upsets and heralding a wave of competitive parity. I'm looking forward to both of those matches, and I know our opponents will be just as focused and ready for them as we are!

Tinn: You think I can find either of those places on a map? Our country is messed-up enough without me having to worry about the rest of the world's problems. The only reason I know anything about Flavovespia is because the Græntfjall press used to make fun of the spelling of their name. Pretty rich coming from somewhere with the a and the e smushed together.

Q: Well, uh, I think that's all we have time for. Thank you very much, and good luck in the next round of qualifiers!

Tandre: Thanks so much! Zenic are a strong team, I'm looking forward to visiting Rushmore. And I know Varadarajan will be excited to come home to Sharag.

Tinn: What a formulaic set of inquiries. And that last one wasn't even a question, you shouldn't stick "Q" in front of it.

New Era for Railways?

By Subrato Shahla

The Government of Indusse has announced an new initiative aimed at renewing and restructuring railway stations throughout the country, giving the Indussean Railways a fresh and modern vibe. This initiative named as "Nava Rail" will see all Grade A, B, and C railway stations undergo renovations and upgrades, improving facilities to ensure that train travel is more comfortable, cleaner, and accessible for everyone.

But this is meant to change the whole structure and how the railways is meant to look for Indusse. The vision of the Government is to transform railway stations into world-class public spaces that are not only clean but efficient at the same time. At the same time, the Indussean Railways will undergo a complete rebranding. This would be a new signage, a new logo, updated color schemes for all upcoming railway projects and current ones and an overall design that aims to provide passengers with a seamless experience from the moment they walk into a station. Modernisation and Digitalization of all railway amenities are also part of the plan.

The busiest stations in the country will be the first to see these changes. This includes Hind City Junction, Sindhunagar Central, Neagra City Junction, Riveria Central, Anantapuri Central, and Veerasalingam Junction. These hubs serve thousands of passengersdaily and are central to the nation’s railway network. It is to be noted that these are all the top Grade A Stations in the country.

As part of the upcoming system, existing stations will have larger and more comfortable waiting areas, modern high tech lounges, and cleaner restrooms. The Stations will have foucs given to certain areas so as to make it user-friendly for the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and families with infants. Easy accessibility features like lifts, escalators, ramps, and baby care rooms will be introduced to stations to ensure better accessibility.

Modern technology will also play a very major role in this project. Passengers will have access to faster Wi-Fi, digital display boards, and even app based ticketing systems that streamline the process. Additionally, the stations will follow the idea of eco-friendliness. Many will include solar energy, feature LED lighting, and also setup rainwater harvesting systems.

OOC: My take on roleplaying differently than usual. Will go back to my usual style if I find unsatisfactory.

What is redemption? What is... Resurrection?

And no, I don't mean the actual definition of these words. Though the group I wish to talk about does fit the meaning of these words, so that would mean I am talking about the definition of those words... Huh. To atone, to pay back the mistakes they had made. But for resurrection? Pfft, there's a whole resurrection following this goddamn team alright.

The Aphrilian National Team was seen as a rising star, that's the beginning of the story. 95? A decent qualifying safe finish, not too impressive but they had performed better than others for sure. Next cycle rolled around however, and they certainly punched above their weight, reaching the playoffs. Unfortunately, they didn't make the final cut. "That's alright." "They did really good!" "Can't wait to see what this team brings next time." That was the sentiment. People saw Aphrilia as a rising star, a team that could surely become a true mainstay within multiversal football. And the next time after that? Well, the country definitely seemed like they were backing up their own words.

Direct qualification, of course. That's how they did it. Of course it was.

Of course, it was close. Perhaps a bit too uncomfortable, but in hindsight even without top two, Aphrilia would have qualified directly either way. "This is it, they're part of the big boys now." I remember telling myself. And that group stage? Holy fucking shit. Beating out Farfadillis and Chromatika was that team literally saying, "We're not underdogs, we're equals." Sure they lost against Eastfield Lodge in the knockout round but, well, it was their first appearance in the World Cup. That excuse would work only once though.

World Cup 98 however... Oh dear. Where do I even begin with the mess that was the Aphrilian National Team that year? Sudden call-ups from the U21 team, the Di Bradini Cup scheduling... Christopher Vermont for some reason being somewhat stupid that year... Seriously why was the Kachel-Karnwell keeper switching a thing? Anyways, the team ended up becoming a mess and they flunked hard. How hard? Well, enough to perform worse than their debut year that is. Ouch, a real ouch. Now you may be asking, "Why am I telling this again?" Look I know all of you are tired hearing this storyline over and over again. I'll cut to the chase for you then, just for you dear reader.

This team simply was one of our pride and joys.

Doesn't it feel crushing the team you root for get beaten badly? Knowing that they had done so much better before their current, sorry and miserable state? Doesn't it feel heartbreaking that despite the team you support giving it their all, something ends up still being missing? Feeling that something is just... Lacking from this team, all of a sudden? Well, NAFA agreed with that sentiment. And so Vermont was out, and Bianchi was in. For many, they hoped that the Crpostranian could bring change to this team.

And bring change he did because he, along with a restructured and revitalized national team, was able to snag third place in the Independent Associations Championship after World Cup Qualifying. Aphrilia had made it there before, but lost out and finished fourth. It was a continuous path of improvement in the regional level. So then, everybody immediately started asking the question, "How will they do for World Cup Qualifying 99?" As if to ruin the mood. Though it was inevitable that the new cycle would come. This is Aphrilia's 5th attempt of the qualifiers, first under Bianchi, there was... Tenable? Expectations upon this team. It would all come down to how they perform on the opening matchdays...

A win and a draw. Okay... That's not too shabby. Is it? The team looked good.

Anewkansas was a newcomer, but they played rough. Aphrilia isn't as physical as other teams, but the moment that half-time came, Bianchi told his team, "If they play dirty, get your hands dirtier." Shocking, is it? Especially knowing Aphrilia isn't a physical team. Though it is worth noting that The Anchors hadn't have a good attack throughout the first half, in attempting to circumnavigate Anewkansas playing rough. The Anchors were having their playstyle almost fully countered, and there needed to be a response, and a fast one at that. Eventually, Aphrilia took the lead courtesy of a Nathaniel Rosberg volley after taking advantage of some open space due to panic caused by a corner kick at the 82nd minute to win the game. It was a tough opening game, and a physical one at that... And then came StrayaRoos. Matchday 2 was already that more tougher.

But we scraped a 2 - 2 result. Ines Forrestal by going wide and cutting inside at the 50th minute mark, and an Edward Elliot free kick goal on the 67th. Although Karnwell had conceded two goals, he and the rest of the defense were quite solid, especially considering that StrayaRoos is the 22nd best nation in football as of, well, right now. We've got a good start, well, The Anchors got a good start is what I should say. Though this time, a new question lingers... How long will they keep this form?

And can they truly complete their redemption?
"...I'll never trust the same, I'll see friendship as just another game...! Full of winners and losers, selfish abusers... You failed to fly but somehow I’m to blame...!?"
