After the tumultuous 20s, the late years of the decade, starting in 2029, calmed the waters. It was once again peacetime- but, as always, there were some who saw this as an opportunity to strike.
China had maintained a steady lead over the rest of the world- with the US's slower growth, it once again became the most powerful nation after a 1-2 thousand year hiatus. However, Ukraine looks to increase its standing as well, and, without Russia, provides a steady hand in Eastern European politics.
The Middle East may never be calm, but with the Israel-Hamas (for lack of a better term) war over in a strange sort of stalemate, and the Syrian crisis ended, it certainly seems that the region come finally function- however, new leaders in Egypt and Saudi Arabia may change how the future unfolds.Owonyaania wrote:Am I still assigned to Japan? I used real-world monetary estimates. If my estimates are a bit low, what would a reasonable amount be?

March, 2031
The reconstruction of the devastated cities in the Free Russian Soviet is ongoing, Eurasian repair and rehabilitation engineers having completed the dismantling of damaged infrastructure and the removal of dangerous irradiated soil and materials from most of the ten cities impacted by Putin's wayward military strikes. Though the poison will linger in the bedrock and groundwater for generations, extensive investment in cleaning and remediation efforts is ongoing, and public utilities in the damaged cities have been upgraded to render the drinking water safe for routine human consumption. Though the tens of thousands of lives lost to the funeral pyre of the autocrat's regime can never ben reclaimed, there is some solace in the knowledge that one more dangerous element of the world community can never again threaten the peaceful people of Eurasia. Total repair costs have spiraled to over $110 billion, an unjust burden placed upon the people of the Union by the warmongering of dictators, but a burden which they gladly shoulder to lead humanity to a brighter future.
This month also marks the beginning of the second campaign season for Party leadership in the Free Russian Soviet, and the anniversary of Liberation Day, when Eurasian forces entered Moscow to the cheers of approving citizens and formally dissolved the Russian Federation and the tyranny of Putin's United Russia. Along with brave soldiers of the Ukrainian people, Eurasian peacekeepers continue the work of rooting out the fascists and Putlerites who have done their best to hide amongst the cheerful and free Russian people, enemies of the nation who will be eliminated in due time securing the borders not only of the Union but of Europe herself against Putinate aggression.
With negotiations regarding normalization with the South Korean government unfortunately stalled, Premier He himself is scheduled to make a visit to Seoul in May, where he hopes to engage on a bilateral level with his South Korean counterparts to discuss the opening of trade in earnest between North and South and the expansion of regular reunification visas to allow families sundered by decades of enmity to meet once more. These talks will include the drawdown of military forces along the Korean DMZ, a state of affairs which the Eurasian Union views as desirable to allow larger portions of the budgets in both states to be dedicated towards the needs of the people instead of the every-hungry military. With the standard of living in North Korea surging in recent times, approaching a HDI of nearly 0.8 - though still lagging behind the South - the Eurasian diplomats hope to convince South Korea that they no longer face a threat from the North, and normalize travel and trade.
There have a few hiccups with the expansion of the fusion program across the Union, but results remain promising. Thirty new fusion reactors are now supplying nearly 100 GW of power to the state, which is a significant outcome, but still less than 5% of the country's overall electrical consumption. Some $600 billion has been invested in the scaling up of the fusion program, as well as terrestrial He-3 extraction, with the aim of reaching 25% electrical share within the next two years. Most of the slow implementation of this program has been due to the irregularity of supplies for fusion reactor startups, which are heavily reliant on cheap shipments of the 'miracle material' He-3 from ongoing taikonaut mining work at the Daedalus Lunar Base.
To redress this issue, the Eurasian Union is investing nearly $220 billion in the expansion of launch and shipment facilities at the Jiuquan Space Center, and the expansion of the Long March 4 spaceplane fleet to 16 vessels from the current 8.
