The RQFA League Cup, once again sponsored by Tikariotian Moss liquor brewery Mossun after the previous agreement with Sanford Corporation was annulled on morality-based grounds, pits the Q-League powerhouses Zenit and Mipojoseon on New Year's Day.

Despite all the words about where their ambitions stood between the Champions' League, the Cup competitions and the Q-League, Montreal Koreana have not exactly lost control of their narrative that stood firm with their second-year manager, Julia Davenport. The Blue Devils, who have started out the season strong with the two-one victory over equally-ambitious runner-ups Kingston FC, didn't have a perfect Ouverture campaign that some of their fans had come to expect, but had been mostly on top of their tasks beating out Kingston and Perce Town, before closing out the final leg of the season with back to back one-nil victories over eternal rivals CSKA Quebec and Montreal City in both the Shingoryeoite Superclassique and the Songak derby. Leading their way atop the Ouverture, as well as the Group of Death in the Champions League headed by Raynor City United, Kirkenes FC and Istria City FC, happen to be Juxon Fillar and the defence as they have remained firm with the league's best defence in goals allowed. While Fillar's status as the league's best goalkeeper remains undoubted, the back four of Brie Tannenbaum, Sinisa Salihamidzic, Anarr Ebergsson and Shim So-Yeon are an elite unit that's been able to minimise risk and give the midfield corps of Lauren Engle, Didier Garnacho and Juan Aurelio Redondo less to worry about.

Right behind the Blue Devils, in the meanwhile, are their longtime rivals CSKA Quebec. The Tiger-Phoenixes, whose last season results have put them on serious consideration over the future of their manager Peter GreGG Gabriel, have answered to their preseason worries by coming out with a campaign just as impressive as their rivals' very own. Of course, the team's had a major turnover with Camille Oh-Chainey's departure to Union Port-la-Ville, but the arrival of 22-year old national team prospect Rachel McLaren seemed to have mitigated those concerns with the tenacious, highly-fluid midfielder seemingly able to help the team move better than a slightly more static [though highly gifted] Oh-Chainey. This, combined with a very stable team that didn't have to experience major changes otherwise, seemed to have worked well for their red-hot start that could challenge Koreana for first title run in almost a decade.

As for a team that are favoured by others to actually threat, St. John's Arsenal and Perce Town are considered the ones to watch. Both teams, led by highly-capable managers AJ Zanetti and Benni Massi, have their own ambitions too with a highly-regimented team each have, and have a factor to rely upon. For Arsenal, Brett Sarcav-Jones remains to have the it-factor. While he's not exactly shown the full capability of those in a Karelan-styled Sylestonian national team, the Brettomania has not failed in his ability to generate magic out of very little. His significance on the club, especially with the slowing-down of their talismanic stiker Pio Mendonca due to weight issues, has grown even further this season, giving Zanetti to think about. Perce Town, on the other hand, is mostly a team that's been building wisely through highly-competent parts that have shown up at various points. Whether it be Holly Statton, arguably one of top three fullbacks in the league, dependable striker Marie Faucheux or the former Brenecia legend Hamish Jeong-Harcourt on centreback, it's all evident that the team doesn't have a glaring weakness, though it remains to be seen if the team has enough to beat out the flashier opponents above them for the title.

In the meanwhile minor surprises were made as two northwestern teams, Daedonggang 3.26 and Zenit Attawapiskat, are comfortably on the top half of the league. Daedonggang, who are led by the Squornshelan manager Ortzi Perparim, were able to land one of the bigger signings of the offseason when they landed Klaud Zorko from Olympia Borograd. 'Watch how he keeps the ball on his feet, and then where he sends them,' said Perparim at the pre-season conference expressing their interest. 'I think we are ready to challenge by getting the guy we wanted to get.' So far that's seemed to come true as Zorko, while not exactly able to remove the personal issues off the Quebecois newspapers, have certainly shown the league some of the vision and the tenacity that had Olympia fans sad to let him go.

Zenit, on the other hand, have also found more stability of their own. Without Felix Kalimuendo on the midfield following his transfer to Torbay Thunder, Tessa Maitfield decided to think outside of box and made their decision to move away from a more conventional 4-2-3-1 formation to a 4-3-3 with 18 year old starlet Alejandro Palermo paired with Madison Longstaff and Rodolfo Zorreguieta. On most times this formation would not work, especially with the individual parts, but for the most part the sum of the parts have mounted to giving them enough steel and closeness in distance for the survival. While it remains to be seen if their midfield stability could hold, as well as the age of 36-year old Devon Qalicho on goals, Maitfield's Zenit tenure should hold for another season with her mounting a Manager of the Year-level campaign.

Q-LEAGUE 2066-67 SEASON - PART 2 (MD21-30 + Coupe de la Reine Earlier Rounds)

Coupe De la Reine

First four rounds of the competition have been held with local and/or regional blackout rules applied to their respective locale.

The Coupe de la Reine, unlike the Q-League itself, tends to see a bit more variation in the eventual winners and the finalists. It was only in recent memory where then-Championship side Leaside Lions would produce enough upsets to play in the final against Montreal Koreana in 2053, while two following cup finals would feature Trojana, Forest City Athletic, as well as Baie Verte twice. Those days seem to be in distant memory nowadays, however, as most of recent finals would feature the familiar roster of contending Q-League sides who, in all fairness, have managed to find themselves in firm balance between the league and both cup competitions. Since Mipojoseon's Coupe de la Reine win in 2058 the Coupe de la Reine have been split between Koreana, Perce Town and Arsenal who have won the last six titles, while the likes of Swangard Athletic, CSKA Quebec and Montreal City have also made the finals.

This year seems to be no less different, as the the top seven seeds would go onto make the quarterfinals of the highly-coveted cup competition with the eighth-seeded Montreal City being the sole home team to be dropped after a shocking home loss against Northandryun Rovers. The combined margin of the seven games, where the home side would prevail by the score of 17-0, would more or less suggest that 1) home advantage does matter even more on cup games than on league, and that 2) the level of depth some teams have are more evident here than anywhere else. Former isn't anything unusual, especially with the RQFA providing pre-season seeds from fifth round onwards, but the latter is interesting when considering the Q-League's status as one of more prominent leagues in the world means regular IFCF contenders are usually capable of converting their international revenue into both higher salary cap threshold and transfer budget altogether. As for which of the two is stronger, that's up in the air.

With that said, the quarterfinals were where the differences were made this time around. Montreal Koreana, whose chance for redemption after Coupe de la Reine semifinals loss against City were dashed by none other than the Rovers, had a fairly easy time with the Montevicians by winning four-nil at The Samseongoloondongjang with a Sandara Park brace. Other three matches, in the meanwhile, were way more eventful with Perce Town beating CSKA Quebec away after Odette Tsioui scored a 117th-minute game winner to settle score in extra time, while Lisa Amos's Mipojoseon and Jorge Echevarria's Kingston FC would comprise the other semifinals match after outlasting CSKA and Arsenal in one-goal margin.

In a year where the Q-League has once again dropped back to five representative sides on international competitions with its ninth place on the IFCF coefficients, its finest sides have no doubt made the best out of their calls as Montreal Koreana would find themselves topping the previously-mentioned Group of Death while St. John's Arsenal, Kingston FC and Perce Town would also top their groups to give a perfect 4/4 mark on the IFCF's primary competitions. This, when combined with both Koreana and Kingston FC making the quarterfinals of the highly-competitive Hui Lā, certainly suggest that the league's leading sides have paced themselves well with their cadre of highly-experienced managers and a relatively quiet offseason free of controversies or franchise-altering transfers.

Knockout rounds, of course, have gone more in the mixed bags for the Q-League sides as competition got stiffer. After starting out the season in an outstanding manner, what would many consider to be season-altering moment occur when Sinisa Salihamidzic, who had been mostly reliable for the Blue Devils, would allow his career-worst performance as the Blue Devils would lost 0-4, and agg. 3-7, to Herzegovina City FC on the Champions' League second round. While it remains to be seen on whether Koreana's season might be doomed by a matter of chance, there's no doubt a slight cloud has been placed on the minds of Q-League fans unaccustomed to see the Quebecois international Upamaguiring it for the first time in forever.

A more interesting saga would occur in the Challengers Cup, as the trio's down to just one. First fell Perce Town, as the club's shaky mid-season form would too affect them there, while St. John's Arsenal, who had hoped to make another deep run, would be cut short by none other than Taqwaa CA in what's been a highly-anticipated knockout round between the Commonwealth side. The news of the upset, where the Gunners had come up short on extra time in front of homecrowd, had no doubt made those in Al-Tamazgha highly-excited with the southwestern Arrosian nation seemingly on the course to break every ceiling on the way by qualifying a team into Champions' League, Challengers' Cup knockout rounds, and now making the quarterfinals of any IFCF competitions. For those in the home, however, this was regarded as a major disappointment for the fans, who booed the players and their beloved manager, a rarity if ever, out of the field.

On the other competitions, life continues in the LBCT as Jolbonopolis United's cut down by Fortuna Städeli while Nunavut North Stars survive for yet another day. Both sides, who have so far struggled to stay on top of their initial target to survive, should still be proud for not giving up early on either the league or the international competitions. That said, it would be interesting to see where the North Stars, who have survived the second-round but trail behind second-last Leaside Lions by nine points, and the sixteenth-place Jolbonopolis, who could now focus on the league survival stand. On the RSC, both Koreana and Perce Town's youth sides have gone out during the knockout rounds after surviving the groups, while St. John's Arsenal prevail over AC Izotz Zubia of Audioslavia to progress to the quarterfinals.

The final stretch of the season would see the remaining Q-League sides to amp up their intensity in the later rounds of their competition, as well as deciding on which of two competitions to focus upon. It is a lot bigger dilemma than what most would think, especially considering their respective situations. St. John's Arsenal, on one hand, were firmly on the chase for their search back to the ever-elusive Q-League title and focused their resources more on clinching the Fermeture title. So when the Gunners were eliminated by CA Paulinthal in the ChC semifinals after a difficult away loss on the first leg, some weight were taken off from the shoulders of their fans who seemed more relieved than anything else. The task always stood tall facing against a Pasargan side with such history in the competition after all.

Kingston FC and Nunavut North Stars, on the other hand, chose to focus more on the cup competitions rather than the league. For Kingston FC, it was out of necessity rather than importance considering that they were still alive in competition for three cups - Coupe de la Reine, Challengers Cup and Hui Lā - that had made their schedule very difficult to address. While some had questioned Jorge Echevaria's decision to start academy players and substitutes on most of their remaining games, especially with how uncertain their IFCF qualification chances stood on the league alone, Kingston would manage to balance out their objectives and achieve the target by making the finals on all three. Now the question lies on which competition and how as the IFCF qualification secured with Perce Town, their opponent for the Coupe final, have already qualified for the Challengers Cup, while the Champions' League qualification is possible depending on their final vs. Miruan City FC on the stands of Couen, and Hui La final against none other than Raynor City United in none other than Jaglan, of neighbouring Squornshelous.

Despite all the doubts heading into the final stretch of the league, St. John's Arsenal have managed to secure the Fermeture title after building up a strong record for most of the spring. Of course, the way they had secured it was anything but secure, especially with an away draw to an underachieving Northandryun Rovers side and the East Coast derby loss to Haligonian side that, for all their first-half catastrophes, seemed to look unassailable at times on the second half.

'We aren't proud of the final stretch of the season, that's for sure,' said AJ Zanetti, as he tried to reflect on the Fermeture half of the season. 'Of course, we still have one more game left to play in Joongyeong against the side we are very familiar with, and I have strong confidence we could beat Koreana next Sunday.' Zanetti's not wrong - the Gunners have swept the series this year, with the return leg being a 1-0 victory at the Theatre of Midnight Dreams no less, and with Koreana side looking surprisingly lackluster at key matches this Fermeture, all's there to suggest that perhaps, Arsenal could find the magic from Brett Sarcav-Jones, Alija Mesic-Misayaki, or a seemingly-resurgent Layvin Son-Saka whose fortunes seemed to have rebounded alongside the Banijan Kadongo Kamu.

As for whether the Blue Devils have an answer to that is to be seen. Montreal Koreana, after all, have been very streaky for most of the Springtime. Perhaps due to their tendency to drop low and crouch, their record against perfectly beatable opposition has contrasted with that of their strengths against most contending sides. I mean, if you have arguably the league's best squad and a highly proven manager, you aren't exactly expected to come away with just two points facing Wansan, Jolbonopolis and Haligonian altogether. Right?

Fortunately for Koreana, they have still won both the Superclassique and the Songak Derby to close out the season, completing a double sweep that has most likely secured their qualification spot for IFCF Champions' League over, you know it, CSKA. While the Q-League set to be back with six qualification spots, including three in the CL, sixth-place Kingston FC making the Challengers' Cup final with strong chance of winning would end up adding additional weight onto their derby victories.

Now what about CSKA and those below? The story, for most part, has been positive for them. In what's the do-or-die year for Peter GreGG Gabriel, CSKA Quebec seems to have found a new lease of life that had managed to last all the way, one that's made possible thanks to the F4 core of Samuel Hui, Alanna Faucett, Rachel McLaren and Odette Tsioui putting together strong seasons. While it remains to be seen on how CSKA, whose IFCF struggles have long been infamous, translates this, it is safe to say that The GreGG, whose managerial fandom is often described as Mourinhoian in the Quebeco-Shingoryeoite lexicon, will survive yet another season.

Acadie stalwarts Perce Town and Mipojoseon also make the cut into the Challengers' League, both organisations reportedly happy with the way their season has turned out. For the Dockers of Mipojoseon, the narrative seems to have shifted away from their highly-Karela style of play following the departure of club legend Semir Besak after fifteen years in the league. Besak, who has won every accolade imaginable in Champions' League, Testiculos honour, and almost certain chance of reaching 200 caps with Mytanija, will be missed. In his place, Kytler Peninsulae's Vicente has taken over as the team's face with the Kytlerian starlet, who has turned 23 last summer, making a case to be considered for the Silver Moogoongwha. While it remains to be seen if he will be able to sustain it ala. Brett Sarcav-Jones, a question that both him and Kingston FC's Maddie Prenn have to answer in due time, Lisa Amos's secure future may be part of the equation in achieving it.

For Perce Town, their fifth place in the league standings put them in a dillemma. While they have once again finished strong in the league, and have a chance to win their first cup in three years when they take the field against Kingston FC, there is a certain consensus made among the team office and the press insiders that the team's looking to decide their future on a number of star players to decide their financial health. Now this is not to suggest that the Montesierra co. is looking to sell - at least not while the Big Four film studio is recording revenue - but in that they may have hit the ceiling with this group.

As for a team that's been undergoing desperate renewal, Montreal City may be the ones feeling the brunt of it the most. The team, who had suffered massive salary cap penalty following their involvement over the PED scandal involving their former manager, late Lester O'Reagan, not only saw their 40-year old 40-goalscorer Caitrin Ness retire, but also had to sell their star centreback Kutaaka Muteesa. This, when combined with the early-season ACL injury to superstar goalkeeper Goh Yeong-Rok and manager George Wangolo's return to the Kadongo Kamu, have destabilised the team that started poorly and remained so.

Elsewhere, however, the worst seemed to be avoided for Haligonian and Forest City Athletic with former seeing a super-saiyan effort from Squornshelan international Ukko Saigir and latter seemingly finding enough midfield steel between Prudence Barbier, Harold Chaskie and Praxis Collingwood. As for whether this will hold remains to be seen for both - the Hals seems likelier than the Trees considering their dramatic, second-half turnaround after a nightmarish Ouverture campaign, while the Trees are likely in need of retooling with news of Chaskie retiring and Collingwood being sold over the international transfer window.

2067 Kim-Hlasek Cup at the Q-League Grand Final:

Introduced by the Royal Quebecois Football Association (RQFA) before the start of 2053-54 (2.10) Q-League season, the Kim-Hlasek is an annual match played between Ouverture and Fermeture Champions of each Q-League season. The trophy, which is made of gold and is around 5 metres tall, is donated by Montreal Koreana and St. John's Arsenal, the home clubs of two of the greatest managers in Q-League history, the late Sir. Kim Ji-Choon and Kurt Hlasek.

Barring unusual circumstances that force the relocation of the match, every Sir. Lionel Mah Cup will be played in Joongyeong, the capital, with preference at The Reneegrad (Cap. 84,000) in Reneegrad, Joongyeong Federal Province.

Once again, the Royal Quebecois Football Association will be deciding that the remaining LBCT qualifying spots, on top of the promotion/relegation spots versus the 17th-placed Q-League team, will be determined by the expanded playoff format. The Championship Pro/Rel Playoffs will be played in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut, the northernmost province, with preference at the Iqaluit Stadium (Cap. 134,000) in Iqaluit, Nunavut province.

At the end of the youth league season, the RQFA Youth League Finals are held each and every year on a centralised location the week after the Coupe de la Reine Final. One representative from each of eight regions are sent to participate in the now-revamped eight-team Sir. Lionel Mah Cup tournament.

2069 Kim-Hlasek Cup at the Q-League Grand Final:

Introduced by the Royal Quebecois Football Association (RQFA) before the start of 2053-54 (2.10) Q-League season, the Kim-Hlasek is an annual match played between Ouverture and Fermeture Champions of each Q-League season. The trophy, which is made of gold and is around 5 metres tall, is donated by Montreal Koreana and St. John's Arsenal, the home clubs of two of the greatest managers in Q-League history, the late Sir. Kim Ji-Choon and Kurt Hlasek.

Barring unusual circumstances that force the relocation of the match, every Sir. Lionel Mah Cup will be played in Joongyeong, the capital, with preference at The Reneegrad (Cap. 84,000) in Reneegrad, Joongyeong Federal Province.

One representative from each of eight regions are sent to participate in the now-revamped eight-team Sir. Lionel Mah Cup tournament.

Q-LEAGUE 2069-71 SEASON - PART 1 (Preview, Ouverture: MD1-18)

Tumbra, Mytanija's IFCF exit raises Q-League sustainability questions

As the Mipojoseon FC won their ninth Q-League title over defending champions St. John's Arsenal in the Grand Final, and the Kingston FC quietly walk away with second straight Hui La title and their first Coupe de la Reine in over 4 decades, there's very little as to what the fans could have expected this offseason. Turns out, plenty had happened over the summer of 2068 as the combination of the 2068 Hamilon-Schimpol Summer Olympics, passing of the most preeminent writer in this 21st century of Quebec and Shingoryeo, and well, the limited timeline for everybody else as the collapse of the once-vibrant T-League system had led into a yearlong deadline for the domestic footballing community.

Eventually, when the transfer season had occurred, most countries were too busy figuring out how, who and how much do they repatriate their players abroad, and conversely sell off the Tumbran players abroad whom, though in increasingly decreasing numbers in the last decade, still held significant transfer and player value as whole. This was then added with the halting of Tikariotian Premier League and more importantly, the collapse of the Mytanar State that was brought by the half-dozen years of domestic instabilities, had left a massive void, one that some of more familiar, such as the Quebecois and the Chromatiks long familiar to the Mytanar market, had gotten out earlier than the others.

All in all, what would come to result in the market that, in every sense of the word, had its consequences. Not only were three of the leagues in the IFCF's upper echelons affected or even removed from international competitions, this had led into a transfer window that unexpectedly became a buyer's market resembling an economic depression than one of a healthy, cyclical job market. Some had managed to get their destinations in time, others less so, and in some case they were left stranded in their second countries, waiting for their home to come calling.

But what does this mean for the Q-League? In the case of the third-ranked league in the world, plenty could be said as to whether the current business model is sustainable or not. Traditionally the Q had prioritised its strengths on developing younger talent so that they could be sold off to bigger leagues abroad, such as the Chromatik Redleague, Vanorian EPL, the SFPL and Squornshelan. The league's continued relevance at the international stage complicates this narrative, however, and with the international market growing smaller due to growing plagues of isolationism across the multiverse (OOC: reflecting how the domestic football's been having slow but steady decline in participant numbers as of late). And while early speculations are anything but ideal in many of those cases, the signs suggest that perhaps, the way moving forward for the Q-League is to develop a more all-arounded, self-sustaining league its own like the Kelssekian Premiership.

Will Koreana be back into contention?

In most years, the race should come down to about four to five teams, with possibility that the two of them, in whichever order they win the Ouverture or the Fermeture in Quebec and Shingoryeo's rare apertura-clausura system that's necessiated by the weather conditions, vie for the title. Or that one or two of them fall way out of the IFCF qualifiation zone that either forces those sides to cough up additional transfer money for the possibility they return to contention.

This year, however, there appears to be a clear favourite, with an extremely bitter Montreal Koreana squad making their decisions early, quickly and without hesitation after walking way empty-handed despite coming close in almost every competition. It was just hours before their final game of the season, a 1-0 Songak Derby win against Montreal Koreana, where they had announced that their manager, Ko-orenite Julia Davenport, were going to depart the club in exactly three hours time. Davenport's tenure, one that's marked with more defensive formations and regimented operations, were received well by the Front Office but also saw its first-season appeals falter over time as the manager would lose favours among the fans faithful over her inability to sustain winning ways over their rivals not named Montreal City. This, when combined with poor IFCF results and increasing miss rates in the domestic circuit, all but forced her out in a matter of three seasons in five years.

In Davenport's place, Koreana made sure to move quickly, as they announced the arrival of Benoit-Richard Ukaleq to a three-season contract. A relative outsider with limited coaching background, even as he had amounted to 60 national team appearances with the IAQUE on a fairly gilded playing career, the board made sure to hail it quickly as 'one that's focused on bringing excitement back to The Samseongoloondongjang'. Whether we'll see that from Ukaleq, who tends to be driven by a 4-3-3 formation, at least from his highly-successful season with Heart of Saguenay last season, remains to be seen. His pattern of hostility towards the media, and his love of marijuana (yes, Mr. Ukaleq is an independent cannabis grower back in his hometown of Iqaluit) and fried chicken seems to suggest that he at least won't be a dull one.

The worries aside over their incoming manager, however, the Red Devils fans had plenty to celebrate as what was easily the biggest coup of the transfer window fell into their laps when Koreana landed Lavrenty Xuen-Zhukov away from Myana. In some ways, it's not a surprise - Koreana's history of Chromatik superstars in the league is quite well documented, whether it be Cyrile Nodis, Juxon Fillar, or Sandara Park - but the sheer magnitude of the 30m transfer, whose career remains very much in heydays at age 28, is impressive on its own right, and should keep the fans in watch as to what might be next. It is a squad that already has some of the league's finest talent, with the league-best depth accompanying arguably a top three starting lineup. There is a mild concern about their defence, especially with the way centrebacks Sinisa Salihamidzic and Anarr Ebergsson have struggled with injuries, and Juxon Fillar is 40 years old.

But the saving grace might come in the form of two further additions, as an all-rounded, future Marauders leftback Alejandro Nyman should fill the gap left by Brie Tannenbaum, and the 16-year-old, 6'9 Quebeco-Banijan behemoth Kanyago Rouse-Juruni, slated to play in either centreback or defensive midfielder. This gives the team more options, especially with team captain Lauren Engle returning after spending the second half of last season away maternity leave, and barring natural disasters there is a distinct chance that Koreana could win both halves and cancel the Grand Final.

Will Bonneville Wanderers finally step up?

When the Bonneville Wanderers were promoted six years ago, on the third season of the aggressively internationalist project led by their Taxhavnian owner, long-infamous Taite de Luntte, all the hype and the hopes were placed on the Wanderers as the rural Yoseo side seemed to find themselves on a roll. With a talent mix of relatively established veterans, as well as international-calibre talent in Taxhavnian Jocki Moroff, it all seemed like with time and investment they would manage to claw their way into the trophies.

So far, that hasn't happened, and the Bonneville Wanderers remain cupless, having survived multiple relegation-zone scaries and mid-table struggles. Just two seasons ago that did happen, with the 17th-place Wanderers having to saw off Jolbonopolis United to survive the distinctly-scary possibility of a relegation-promotion playoff. Fortunately, their fortunes have seemed to rebounded since with the Wanderers finishing 9th, their best finish ever in the Q-League, off a TOTY-level performance of Natalie Baek-Hauser and Jocki Moroff, just six points away from a Challengers Cup spot. As with Zenit and Olympique de Rimouski, two sides that have come close to both the relegation and the IFCF qualification in recent times, this had left them on a high note heading into the offseason.

But there was one issue that they had, which turned out to be the frozen climate of the recent cycles' international trade windows. Not only was Lucien Raeff unable to find a top-grade transfer target he considered suitable for transfer, the only international signings they were able to secure were Nikolas 'Niko' Zografides, a 17 year old Vdaran centreback with solid potential from West Couno United and the remnants of Gina Whittingham from Zenit Attawapiskat. Don't get me wrong here - both are solid signings, with Zografides likely to boost much-needed energy and depth on a limited defensive depth they have, and Whittingham, once the talismanic superstar for Elmyia, should be able to alleviate the scoring burden off Marina Aherne, who has struggled with injuries and off-field troubles for much of the past season.

Regardless, the Bonneville Wanderers seem to have come back from the offseason highly motivated to make a push for its first ever IFCF qualification spot. Their starting lineup is certainly one worth battling for contention, especially on the backfield where they have cornerstone pieces such as the Reapers' star goalkeeper Marianne Oh-Ntare, highly promising tandem of Tikariotian Camilla Carey and Quebeco-Illyrian centreback Jorge Campoli, and the Atletik and Reapers' super rightback Frederic Yabusele. And that's without mentioning their strengths up front.

Now, whether it materialises or not, of course, would depend on how the team performs over a sustained time period, and outside of their blue-turfed homeground that rivals the Iqaluit Stadium in home advantage. It is something that a relatively younger squad like the Wanderers have struggled in the recent years, and questions will be asked as to whether Lucien Raeff can succeed where his predecessors have failed before. Regardless, it will be one of more highly anticipated storylines of the year, and oh my, would it be a great story if they actually do.

The Semifinals are annually held on the 29th of December, three days after Boxing Day. The Mossun™ League Cup Finals are annually held on the New Year's Day, and in cases of two-year seasons, always on the first year of the season. The RQFA League Cup, once again sponsored by Tikariotian Moss liquor brewery Mossun after the previous agreement with Sanford Corporation was annulled on morality-based grounds, pits the upstart Q-League Bonneville Wanderers and recently-relegated Montreal City on New Year's Day.

So came the rivalry week. With the unusual circumstances last season where one of the most shocking outcomes had resulted in a devastating relegation for Montreal City, the Q-League board decided to take a rare step for the Blue Devils to pair them up with another league contender, Benni Massi's Perce Town no less, before the start of the season. The decision, of course, seemed a no-brainer, especially with the league's history of matching CSKA Quebec up with St. John's Arsenal or Jolbonopolis United, two 'big' clubs, and also because Perce Town's longtime chairperson, Dame Heo Myeong-Yoon, happened to be a hardcore CSKA fan dating back to her grandparents and also vouched for her cousin-in-law, late Maisie Dreyfus-Milliken, to enter in what was a decadelong ownership of Montreal City under the Misiriyaa Football Group.

So when the time came for Perce Town and Montreal Koreana to face off the first time this season at The Samseongoloondongjang, everything seemed a match made. While heavily-favoured Koreana seemed to run in cruise control mode, with Lavrenty Xuen-Zhukov and Sandara Park scoring 18 and 15 goals respectively, Perce Town wasn't so far behind either with their dominant backfield led by Sylestonian rightback Holly Statton, Brenecian centrehalf legend Hamish Jeong Harcourt and the double-volante system of Ramon Solari and Pyo Seung-Hye that's put together some of most awe-inducing displays of passing football in the league. With possible rumour of their longtime manager's departure, especially with beleaguered position of Peter 'GreGG' Gabriel at CSKA, the team appeared to be even more motivated to make one final title push before heading into an offseason of unknowns.

Alas, it didn't exactly turn out that way. Coming out of the gate hot and hard, the Blue Devils wasted no time scoring their brace needed to score, with a long-range free kick from Lauren Engle at the 15th minute mark followed by a 28th minute Gustavo Lopes header off a carefully-organised set piece. The rest became history, of course, as Koreana managed to throttle the life out of what was an uphill climb for Perce, with the third goal, scored by Kanyago Rouse-Juruni, a narratively-perfect insurance goal. Like that, Koreana had managed to wrap up the season in time, and thus won the Ouverture.

As for everybody else, plenty is worth being talked about here as the perceived mid-table sides with noticeable upsides in Olympique de Rimouski, Daedonggang 3.26 and Bonneville Wanderers would come to round out the top five of the Ouverture table. Daedonggang 3.26's success under their manager Anton Vujadinovic, who has managed to bring a semblance of stability in Anju, has certainly stood out among younger managers, and now the team seems to have matured enough to function on a long-ball basis. Their centreline, maintained by TOTY candidates of all-arounded midfielder Klaus Zortko, hulking cenre-half Serguei Sapozhkov and Santranginus centre-half acquisition Serge Amrouche allows for their confidence to build out of backfield, with the results seemingly paying off with decent scoring contribution from veterans Allyson Young and Alanis Wii'hoon. More is to be seen if this could be maintained, however, as they have not gotten over that hurdle in club history.

Olympique de Rimouski, on the other hand, is still the club that's led by a Min. 23-year old Min Jae-Ryong, the son of club legend and manager Min Dong-Jin, has stepped up well with a 23-goal season last year, and seems to have only gotten better in time as the powerful dribbler seems to have benefitted from the overall improvements. While Adrian Kielland, their sole signing this offseason, is expected to take some time to mature into a promising potential he holds as former Olympique star Katarina Gruenewald did, the team's gradual return to relevance is more impressive on a three-season sample as this would also include former Reapers and foreign league stars Kwak Seung-Hyeok and Caitriona Yeom-Kadongo to round out. This version of Olympique, for better or worse, is a much more experienced, complete team than what most had seen in the last twenty years, and perhaps it's safe to say that they might be back playing IFCF football sooner than we would think.

Regardless, some what-ifs might be left on table for both teams. For one, Daedonggang's impressive 5th place is also accompanied by a tough, away draw against Zenit, as the struggling Abitibi-Agawa rivals of them would kick them to the curb with a game-tying screamo from Kim Chae-Yeong at additional time, while Olympique would suffer an unexpected Derby of Saguenay loss to the Hearts, 3-5 at that on the Steelyard of all places, leaving behind a huge what-if over a missed opportunity in placing third. Both teams' inability to settle tough scores, even though they were closer to relevance than what most had anticipated, seem to ask us several questions - can they get it done in late stretches of the season?

Q-LEAGUE 2069-71 SEASON - PART 3 (Fermeture Part 1)

Early rounds of the Coupe de la Reine has seen some notable upsets, in what's probably the most unpredictable year in some time. As with most years it's not the usual title contenders who get knocked out early - the calibre and the depth of talent usually prevent teams like Koreana, Mipojoseon or Arsenal from falling short while running under a rotation - but those right below are equally capable of falling victims to an upset or two, especially if they aren't careful. Heart of Saguenay, Bonneville Wanderers and CSKA Quebec happened to be those sides that came up short, as the fifth-placing Hearts, who are currently having their best season in over three decades, got caught sideways against Hanbat Fury, while CSKA, undergoing their worst season in over a decade and half now, also came up short against Baekahm Lakers. The County Ferris side, who hadn't really threatened Q-League promotion in their Championship tenure so far, had managed to saw off back-to-back Q-League sides, mostly thanks to their excellent throw-ins and timely saves made by goalkeeper Gaetan Momsen-Blouin, and would now be facing second-seeded Mipojoseon away at the quarterfinals.

Heading into the World Cup break, where much of the league spent time competing for their respective national teams, Haligonian appeared to be in shambles. Slow, demotivated and even suffering from injuries and downturn in forms exhibited by their finest stars - World Cup 96 winning leftback R.D. Jacobus and Kirungan rightback Patrick Mutoni, both of whose national teams have been inactive for some time now - Haligonian looked all but cooked with Ukko Saigir being asked to do everything. This was something their manager, Vivienne Veronne acknowledged and she did try to resign, but the board refused, citing that 'good times will come again'.

This has indeed come true, for the Haligonian FC has seemingly come back from the dead, as critical home wins over seemingly-unstoppable Bonneville Wanderers and equally struggling Zenit Attawapiskat seemed to have defined their nature. Of course, their Nakdong Derby loss to Heart of Saguenay at the Sajik Park was anything but ideal, especially with an unexpected slip by legendary goalkeeper Seung-Myeon Hyeon-Kravitz showing the 39 year old's age, but they've also shown their capabilities with a 1-0 win over Perce Town a week earlier. Possible differencemaker? Ukko Saigir, as the World Cup 97 winner seems to have levelled up even further to give the Hals a chance. And while it remains to be seen if he's going to stay or head to a greener pasture in the league - words on town is that Kingston FC, Bonneville and even Mipojoseon are looking - right now the focus is all on Haligonian making a second half push.

Elsewhere in the league, questions abound for Kingston FC as the defending Q-League and Hui La champions have respectively struggled to find ground for much of the season. For Kingston FC, they had legitimate reasons as the return of franchise rightback Tracey Mercurio and all-contributing centreback Hannah Edwards found themselves heading home during the offseason. While they did replenish the lost talent with equally impressive signings in Vanorian starlet Chell Meadows up front and Kira Dormann on back, the team took surprisingly a lot of time to adjust as Jorge Echevarria, who himself was away for the summer doubling as the IAQUE national team for the Arrosian Football Championships, tried his best to build a 3ATB system for the season?

Did it work? Not really on the league where the league's specialties in physicality and blocking pass lanes make it difficult, especially on their early stretches of the season where pacier Zenit or Hearts have gotten to them, and they simply lacked steel up the middle to outflash teams like St. John's Arsenal. Interestingly enough, however, Kingston FC seems to have made this work at the Arrosian Hui La, where they were running full steam after sawing off Club Demot and Raynor City United. Much of the story, of course, could be credited to the two-top tandem of Chell Meadows, who one day could be considered a good successor or even teammate to Imre Haaland with the Marauders, and the team captain Kennedy Hong. Hong, who has struggled for much of the season due to her glassy durability, has stated that this was going to be her last season as a player, retiring from once promising career at age 32.

....nevermind. The quarterfinals was where the magic of Baekahm Lakers would come to a quick, swift end as Lisa Amos's Mipojoseon would outclass them from the start to finish. It has been a particularly difficult year or two for the Dockers, even as the highly-experienced team struggled to find balance between two World Cup campaigns - congratulations to Peter Langdon for bringing Flavovespia home the World Cup - and the struggle to balance the IFCF champions' league and domestic competitions. The battle against time, when combined with the tragedy of Kytlair Flight 134 where their ace trequartista, Vicente, lost most of his national teammmate, would come to affect a steadily-aging Dockers squad.

But for the Dockers, they still were battling firm and solid to the end with Lisa Amos, whose famous practice of not speaking to any media personnel, remained unfazed on surface. Their solid home form and the arrival of Flavovespian NT prospect Rafael Daniel, combined with no loss from the Tumbran exodus still kept them well in contention unlike AJ Zanetti's St. John's Arsenal, seemed to have allowed them to hold on in tougher matches. While they did come up short in the Champions' League and even the Q-League, with the Dockers battling for their Challengers' Cup qualification chance, those tiniest margins would come to make the differences in the Coupe as Vicente, in his promise to bring the Coupe to the Blood Sea in memory of his lost teammates, scored a hat trick on the second half to overcome Olympique after drawing 2-2 at halftime.

If you are a St. John's Arsenal fan, you have valid reasons to be frustrated at AJ Zanetti and the players. Klara Verlaan, signed from FC Inter Nantwich, is out for the season after a nasty ACL injury sustained at the very opening match of Fermeture against Leaside Lions. They lose that match right after, allowing a brace from 20-year-old Celine Dinardo's headers. They then find themselves quickly behind, even as a win over underachieving Kingston and draw to Mipojoseon take away some of the pain, as they too would lose to Agawa Athletic, draw to Jolbonopolis and Coloratura City. It's not even that they are necessarily bad against the top half sides - they are actually much better against them - but there's a concerning pattern of securing draws where they would have normally won by a goal or two, and nobody's happy about it.

The reality behind this wasn't even on Zanetti, however, even as most ordinary fans would be quick to blame the hotheaded tactician for the Contean behaviour he holds with everybody. The guy has the history of outbursts, and the way he had left CSKA for the Gunners, in a season where continuous burnout and confrontations with media had led into a fascinating 'recent history of 安菲樓途 (rough translation: Anfield -e.d.-)' remark after his penultimate game with the Tiger-Phoenixes. And keep in mind, that's a team that's won two titles, including one with Zanetti, on recent history. How crazy is that?

But you can't seriously suggest that a front office that's failed to boost, outside of Verlaan, a defensive backline that headed into the start of the season at 30, 32, 33, 31 and 34 years of age, isn't ideal. By now, Donovan Watson-Lukwago's 36, Otem Ssema 35 and Donheil Hwang off to retirement home at 38. The level of incompetence there, especially with how aged and out of sorts they had looked, isn't solvable even with a Zanettian black magic - you can't bring back dead legs and lungs unless your player is named Frederic Beauchemin. That, when combined with the delay in replacement for aging stars in midfield in 35-year-old Nico de Lorimier and 34-year-old Alija Mesic-Mizayaki, has led into a very imbalanced squad that's not been able to back up the golden triangle of production from Layvin Son-Saka, Brett Sarcav-Jones and Kaytlyn Jean-Baptiste.

In any case, however, it's been a season from the hell for Arsenal fans. The squad looked old, stale and even exposed on back, and front simply hasn't had the explosiveness from the days of Brett-Sarcav carrying Sylestone to a third-place finish in the World Cup. Brodie Uyarak, while looking like a franchise midfielder for years to come, also has to step up and possibly avoid the fate of Camille Oh-Chainey, CSKA's golden girl whose development slightly plateaued before her move abroad, else it could get rough for them. Fortunately for them, however, is that the journey's almost over, and that an active Transfer window could mean a rejuvenated squad that's ready to contend again.

2071 Kim-Hlasek Cup at the Q-League Grand Final:

Introduced by the Royal Quebecois Football Association (RQFA) before the start of 2053-54 (2.10) Q-League season, the Kim-Hlasek is an annual match played between Ouverture and Fermeture Champions of each Q-League season. The trophy, which is made of gold and is around 5 metres tall, is donated by Montreal Koreana and St. John's Arsenal, the home clubs of two of the greatest managers in Q-League history, the late Sir. Kim Ji-Choon and Kurt Hlasek.

Barring unusual circumstances that force the relocation of the match, every Sir. Lionel Mah Cup will be played in Joongyeong, the capital, with preference at Stade St. Croix (Cap. 84,000) in Saint-Croix, Joongyeong Federal Province.

Q-LEAGUE 2071-72 SEASON - PART 1 (Ouverture: MD1-19)

Pinch me, anyone? Yes, Zenit Attawapiskat won the Ouverture campaign in what was perhaps the most unimaginable campaign one would come to expect in long time as the Aeros, thanks to a 7-2 penultimate day victory over knee-deep Forest City Athletic, was able to survive an unfortunate, final-day Abitibi Derby loss to Daedonggang 3.26 to win away regardless.

The Ouverture victory, giving Zenit a crack at their first league title in fifty years in 2021-22 season, was one very few had believed to be possible - just the previous year they had seen a disappointing, 16th-place finish that caused their manager, Schottian international, CSKA and SFPL legend Tessa Maitfield, to near-dismissal. Fortunately for the team, they had managed to stay calm the waters early with a strong string of signings, as they extended their captain Corneille Paniloo-Parr, quietly signed Bonneville false-nine Marina Aherne, and then secured the services of Doubeia international Summer Semerikova. While Semerikova signing, one that's noted by many as their answer to the recent goalscoring troubles, was the one that covered international spotlights, it was Paniloo-Parr extension, in particular, came as a positive point following nonstop buzz surrounding the 28-year-old centreback's 'unhappiness' towards the team performance.

And needless to say that the Zenit squad, which re-rallied around its stars, have outperformed their expectations. Bolstered by their star goalie, Boris Obomsawin, and a four-back defence that would see Paniloo-Parrr and Alejandro Palermo, who was repurposed as a left wingbak from left wing, the Aeros' defence stood out allowing second-least goals behind CSKA. Elsewhere they were aided by a more slower, long-ball-driven offence that saw Cassadagan-Quebecois centre-mid Madison Langstaff control the ball, Aherne take greater responsibilities for pressing and second line of aggression and Semerikova scoring 22 in the first half, perhaps putting the Doubeian to the Player of the Year discussion.

The results, needless to say, were evident as they prevailed on what was a super tight top half where six points separated them and ninth-placed Heart of Saguenay. Of course, some of their luck had turned out to be major stumbling point for Koreana, Perce Town and CSKA, but in an apertura-clausura season like the Q-League, rowing the boat's as important as it could be. Now this isn't to say whether Zenit could sustain it - there is a reason why only Montreal Koreana's won both halves in the history of this format, and also why the Grand Final favours the Fermeture winner. But there's plenty that's already won by Maitfield and the Zenit squad, and with right doses of luck, could for once win the long-evasive title run for the first time in 50 years.

2072 Kim-Hlasek Cup at the Q-League Grand Final:

Introduced by the Royal Quebecois Football Association (RQFA) before the start of 2053-54 (2.10) Q-League season, the Kim-Hlasek is an annual match played between Ouverture and Fermeture Champions of each Q-League season. The trophy, which is made of gold and is around 5 metres tall, is donated by Montreal Koreana and St. John's Arsenal, the home clubs of two of the greatest managers in Q-League history, the late Sir. Kim Ji-Choon and Kurt Hlasek.

Barring unusual circumstances that force the relocation of the match, every Sir. Lionel Mah Cup will be played in Joongyeong, the capital, with preference at Stade St. Croix (Cap. 84,000) in Saint-Croix, Joongyeong Federal Province.

Yet another interesting season in the Q-League has begun, as the RQFA Board of Directors have announced a rare departure from its traditional, Apertura-Fermetura format in favour of a 38-matchday, full season that is set to start from September and finish in May, with two-week break during the Christmas season outside of the RQFA League Cup.

The move, which drew major controversies in the fan circuit for 'taking away the sport from the fans' during the holidays, and among the managers for undervaluing form-by-form strength in favour, is rumoured to be made on financial grounds as the RQFA has demanded a stronger financial and competitive accountability in the Q-League organisations with various measures. One of them, being its traditional salary cap structure that's based around the league expenditure, was tightened over the previous season following the enquiries made at the House of Commons, while another involved the foreign quota system that, while long proven to be effective, was no longer deemed useful in the contemporary setting.

'There is no doubt that the international transfer market has become static and a bit frigid at times in the past half decade, so no, this does not reflect my stance on where we stand as a league,' said Gilles Antiga, the Q-League Board of Governors chair at the Q-League offseason conference in Songak. 'But I appreciate the concerns coming from 11 Gwangmoo and the Jeongdeokgoong's enquiries over where our league should stand in terms of sustainability and appreciate their concerns. Our goal is to provide greater flexibility with the import slots, which have stayed in the similar mould of domestics, residents and imports with great emphasis on player restraints for the final category, and nowadays to find the balance where the league is able to reach its highest peaks down the road.'

Is there much validity to Antiga's words in the Q-League's search for continued competitiveness abroad, as well as ensuring its parity for the future? That's a task easier said than done, especially as the likes of Montreal Koreana and St. John's Arsenal lead the way in preseason favourites, with Kingston FC, Mipojoseon and even Olympique de Rimouski not far behind. There's not a lot to be spoken for, in part because the Q-League's been fairly frigid on the outlooks of the international market, where the World Cup stars of yesteryears seem to dry up quickly in supply and prospects, especially from emerging markets, don't always translate.

But it's also because the pre-existing stars themselves don't see themselves outside of the major markets - Amina Salihamidzic Beckie's move to Kingston FC, while would have been a relegation-preventing one if she ended up at let's say BK Klampenborg or Southwark Impact with a 25-30 goal output, puts her into one of many stars that dot the top six Reds side - and the prospects don't always show up. Even as odd pickups now and then involve Banijan international hopeful Bal Mendy agreeing to netmind for just-promoted Southwark Impact, who have supplanted just-relegated-and-most-likely-to-be-promoted-again Montreal City as the second team of the nation's largest city, and Zenician international Cecil Maruscak surprising everybody with a move to Wansan, it's still a fairly dry offseason with little to speak for.

But then, more is to be said in time as the league's demands pick up in a long, physical schedule that travels across the vast premises of this northwestern Arrosian nation. One of the most promising players to watch out for this season, for example, is a Teus left winger Dirk Weimann as the Teussen academy product, who comes from the very polar opposite of a civilisation to the tabletops of Bonneville, would find his way into the Wanderers squad that look forward into its future with Jocki Moroff turning 29 and not getting younger anytime soon.

'I picked this club because I see myself living in the tabletops, and becoming a player I wish to be,' Weimann said, firmly aware on how his injury history has left a tricky outlook on the Teussen side. 'It is amusing, mostly because they were worried about the physicality of the Republikliga, only for me to pick the league that's known to be much, much tougher. What does this say about me - am I a masochist? Maybe, but it's not just that. The Semifinals are annually held on the 29th of December, three days after Boxing Day. The Mossun™ League Cup Finals are annually held on the New Year's Day, and in cases of two-year seasons, always on the first year of the season. The RQFA League Cup, once again sponsored by Tikariotian Moss liquor brewery Mossun after the previous agreement with Sanford Corporation was annulled on morality-based grounds, pits the upstart Q-League Daedonggang 3.26 and championship fighters Agawa Athletic on New Year's Day.

2072 Kim-Hlasek Cup at the Q-League Grand Final:

Introduced by the Royal Quebecois Football Association (RQFA) before the start of 2053-54 (2.10) Q-League season, the Kim-Hlasek is an annual match played between Ouverture and Fermeture Champions of each Q-League season. The trophy, which is made of gold and is around 5 metres tall, is donated by Montreal Koreana and St. John's Arsenal, the home clubs of two of the greatest managers in Q-League history, the late Sir. Kim Ji-Choon and Kurt Hlasek.

Barring unusual circumstances that force the relocation of the match, every Sir. Lionel Mah Cup will be played in Joongyeong, the capital, with preference at Stade St. Croix (Cap. 84,000) in Saint-Croix, Joongyeong Federal Province.
