Introduction, Rules, and Schedule

Welcome to the 18th Defender Awards. It's the second edition of the Defender Awards since the implementation of the Award Accords in February 2023. It's being hosted by the commanders of the Ten-thousand Island Treaty Organization at the lavish Taco Island Resort, where defenders are gathering to honour the best of the year. The awards are slightly late this year as we forgot renovations at the Taco Island Resort were delayed due to a strike.

• December 24th - December 25th: Discussion phase (10000 Islands's forum or this thread)
• December 26th - January 4th: Nominations phase (10000 Islands's forum or The 2024 Defender Awards's telegrams)
• January 5th - January 11th: Voting phase (10000 Islands's forum or The 2024 Defender Awards's telegrams)

We reserve discretion on removing bad-faith nominations.

NOTE: All events from and including October 30th, 2023 are considered valid nominations for these awards, as that is the day after the last iteration concluded its nominations. Furthermore, 10000 Islands will enforce its laws on our forum. This enforcement means that all banned individuals must participate via the on-site means.

The Awards

This year features a lineup of award orbs that will magically levitate, perfect for display between your nations’s finest pair of trees or building columns. The staple awards alongside all optional awards are up for grabs. All graphics were produced by Elite.

Defender of the Year

The nation that has served the defender cause effectively the most the past year.

Ananke Award

The nation that has most proficiently and regularly noticed and alerted others of in-progress invasions.

Anarchotopia Award

The military most successful at curtailing invasions.

Sir Lans Award

Updater of the year.

Operation of the Year

The victory that had us on the edge of our seats, and proved to be the most fulfilling of the year.

Newcomer of the Year

The nation that has stormed onto the scene and made a name for themselves as a strong new defender.

Lifetime Achievement

An old person we want to feel good this year - a veteran who has contributed immense time and effort to the cause.

Numero Capitan Award

The nation that has contributed the most to defender intelligence.

Karputsk Award

The nation that excels in leading liberations.

Worst Invasion / Worst Operation Award

The operation that had us all coping and seething.

Meltdown of the Year

The incident or event that had us all giving each other awkward, cringing looks.

Belgium Award

The nation that has advanced the defender cause in the Security Council the most.

Worst Invader Group

Again, fairly self-explanatory.

Eluvatar Award

The nation that has contributed the most to defender technological advancement.

Blackbird Award

The "best" invader group.

Mentor of the Year

The nation that has been a strong and effective mentor to new defenders.

Nominations are being accepted via 2 venues:

• Making a post on 10000 Islands's forum
• Sending a telegram to The 2024 Defender Awards

Notes:

• We reserve discretion on removing bad-faith nominations
• Any event, nation, operation, organization, or quote must be nominated at least twice to appear on the ballot
• Nomination telegrams sent to The 2024 Defender Awards will be posted on 10000 Islands's forum. These posts will include the name of the nation that sent the telegram
• Nominations will ideally come from your main nation. Nominations should not come from anonymous nations, sleeper nations, or nations not obviously associated with your main nation

I feel especially honoured to have been nominated and even received votes for two awards, but I feel like I can be more consistent and I haven't been up to the standard that other defenders have shown over the last year.
