Malta Comino Gozo 0 -0 Edsmontik
It was a hard-fought game between Malta Comino Gozo (MCG) and Edsmontik, ending in a tense 0-0 draw. This was MCG's third draw of the tournament so far. Again, this wasn't bad, but for the team to qualify for the next match, they had to win and also score at least 2 goals to save them if it came to goal difference potentially.
Edsmontik, who currently sit top of the table with 6 points, took control early, with Utravak orchestrating many of the passes from midfield. He slipped past MCG's Luke Attard and Nico Micallef several times in the first half, but despite Edsmontik's relentless pressure, they couldn’t find the back of the net with Ġakbu Mogg making some cracking saves.
Striker Nico Micallef, eager to break the deadlock, made a few threatening runs, but Edsmontik’s defence held firm. Ġakbu Mogg stood tall, making crucial saves as the game wore on. In the second half, MCG brought on fresh legs with Vella, S. Azzopardi, and Micallef making way for substitutes, but the game became a war of attrition in midfield. Striker Daniel White, who subbed Nico Micallef had one attempt on target hitting the post.
Despite several great runs, neither side could find that elusive goal. The scoreline after 90 minutes was 0-0. MCG's defence was proving to be too challenging, but pundits have questioned whether the team should be attacking more rather than subbing defenders.
In the post-match interview, MCG's new manager, Michele Cammileri, couldn't help but feel a little deflated." I can't fault the teamwork of the boys, mela, but if we don't start scoring some goals soon, there is a chance we won't qualify. I want to see our team succeed."
