Welcome to the tenth edition of Anaia’s regional association football championship. The CAFA Cup is Anaia’s Regional Championship for Association Football. It is open only to nations in the Anaia Region, provided that they remain a member of the region for the duration of this competition, and that they also do not sign up for any other regional association football cup or equivalent this cycle.

To sign up for the CAFA Cup, please post in this thread with your roster information.
Sign-ups without a roster will not be accepted, and posting placeholders (i.e. “reserved for roster information”) will be looked at poorly.
If you are posting a roster, it is also recommended to include an RP permissions box. An example of this can be found in the spoiler below:
Code: Select all
RP Permissions Box
If my opponent RPs our match first, I give them permission to:
Godmod scoring events: Y/N
RP Injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players: Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players: Y/N
Godmod other events: Y/N
I prefer you pick these goalscorers for my side:

Puppet Entries:
If a user signs up with a nation that entered the previous CAFA, they may enter up to two nations, provided they were both in the Anaia region at the time that this post was created and remain for the duration of the tournament. In their signup/roster post, users must indicate their second nation -- typically called a puppet -- as such. Undeclared puppets who do not comply with this rule may have all nations associated with their user removed from the tournament.

Host Bids:
Host bids are encouraged to be posted in this thread. In order to host the tournament, you must be signed up to participate. Prospective hosts should indicate their plans for format, scorinator, RP Bonus, tiebreakers, and any other elements as needed. Approved hosts will take over all operation of the tournament from the CAFA account for the edition they are voted to host, including determining signup deadlines and overall schedule.
The deadline for host bids shall be 72 hours after the first host bid posted by someone who has also submitted a roster, or two weeks from the time of this post, whichever is later.
The entry deadline shall be set by the host, but shall be no sooner than Oct 7th 2024 at 20:00 UTC.

Current CAFA Rankings:
The current CAFA rankings are available here. Thanks to Audioslavia for providing the spreadsheet as well as this edition's tagline. Very funny. These rankings have not yet been updated following WC97 and will be updated before CAFA X begins - some additional wizardry is required due to the new WCC ranking system.

Please do not post in this thread if you are not a member of the Anaia region or a moderator performing their duties. Otherwise, your post will be considered spam, and may bring moderator action.

The history of the Pyazhnayan national team has been marked by a few ups, a couple of downs and a lot of flatness. The fact they managed to reach the final of two consecutive CAFAs is a sign that the team has a lot of quality, but the fact that they lost both of them also signals that there was more work to be done.

Image
Aleksandr Zavrashin - 50
Aleksandr Zavrashin has managed to cement his position as Pyazhnayan national coach after two CAFA final appearances and respectable WC qualifying campaigns. He is a proponent of a flexible 4-4-2 formation and an offensive style to surprise the opposing teams!

About this squad
A youngish team is lead by captain Ronan Corver on the left side of a back five, from where full-backs Uriah Malcom and Gil Hurst are expected to get forward, with the former known for his lightning pace and small stature, with the latter providing crosses for the strikers. Lúnquerque is the target man, with the diminutive Cavagnaro expected to make as much of a nuisance of himself as humanly possible. If he can reach 'as felinely possible' that would also be good. A three-man midfield is blessed with pace and an engine that can keep them going for the full ninety, but lacks ability to retain the ball.

Audioslavia, as always, are more comfortable off the ball than on it, and will look to punish teams on the counter.

About Audioslavia

Potted history
  • Audioslavia reached the finals of World Cups 12, 19, 20 and 29, losing all of them and gaining a reputation as a team that chokes.
  • After thirty cycles away, Audioslavia returned to win the Baptism of Fire before World Cup 59, won a regional championship in cycle 60 and then won back-to-back World Cups in cycles 63 and 64. That's the golden generation right there.
  • Things went back to normal after that. The side lost a few more major finals, including World Cups 67, 69 and 76.
  • Recent cycles have seen Audioslavia fall to the midfield in the rankings, failing to qualify for four out of the last five World Cups. That disappointment was been offset by victory in CAFA Cup 3 and Cup of Harmony 83, both in Cycle 91. The side's fortunes have continued to slide since, and at this point football fans have become accustomed to the side being on the fringes of international football.
  • Audioslavia is one of two nations to have won five different major senior titles - BoF, CoH, WC plus two different regional championships. They recently became the only team in history to have recorded 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed finishes in each of the three WCC tournaments, plus regional competition.
  • Recently discovered in the history books: A regional tournament for the now-defunct FIFA region, held before World Cup 28. Audioslavia won this tournament, but do not consider it to be an official regional title unless Nepharans are in the room.
  • Audioslavia in the 90s have been shambolic, qualifying for only three World Cups in seven attempts.

Style of Play
  • Post Football is the name given to Audioslavia's style of play. It's based on the idea that, the less the game resembles football, the more ill at ease your opponents will be. Audioslavia play dirty, sideways and overly cautiously.
  • Kontrapuntzeka is another word for Audioslavia's style of play. Literally meaning counter-attacking, Audioslavia's national team are comfortable playing without the ball and charging forward in numbers when they do finally get it. Each player on this team has a deep understanding of how, when and where to attack on the counter. Losing the ball and allowing the Bulls to hit you on the break has been fatal to many a top ten team throughout history.
  • None of the above seems to work anymore. Speaking of top-ten teams, Audioslavia haven't been one for seven cycles now. Whatever it was Audioslavia did well, it seems the world has figured it out. Nobody in the country seems to know what to do about this.
  • Our footballers tend to be on the shorter, leaner side, with everyone outside of the goalie, centre forward and centre half topping out at about 5'10.
  • Audioslavian footballers are often tenacious, with the highest levels of stamina you'll see in world football. Audioslavian sides are often capable of playing at a high-tempo for long periods of time, and wins are often through attrition rather than skill.
  • Audioslavian teams are notorious for gamesmanship - the bending of the rules in order to gain an advantage. Players will taunt, feign injury, surround the referee, basically anything if it seems like it'd be beneficial. Audioslavians feel no shame in this. As far as they're concerned, their willingness to go further than the other team is a sign that they're more dedicated than their opponents might be. What might be considered dishonourable behaviour for you might be considered normal in Audioslavia.
  • Audioslavian teams fear losing. It's our greatest weakness and, given how this fear manifests itself in big games, a powerful irony
  • As well as lacking a bit of raw power, Audioslavian footballers often lack technique compared to their foreign counterparts. Nobody in the team is stationary and expecting a pass to feet. Passes are played into roughly the space the player will be sprinting into. When the side are countering, it's all speed-speed-speed.
  • Above all else though, what Audioslavian national teams often lack is heart. The worse things are going, the worse Audioslavians play. They're the classic bully. When things don't pan out as they expect, they retreat physically and mentally.

The Manager
With Winfridh having departed after the Cup of Harmony, the hot-seat has gone, at least temporarily, to current Cazadores Cathair manager Salvador Monterroso. Monterroso was semi-famous a while ago as a star of hit documentary A Tale of Two Cathairs. As a Cathair native for whom Cazadores was his life, Monterroso was the beating heart of the squad twenty or thirty years ago, if not the actual first eleven. As a player, he'd eventually find himself at FC Capri, before eventually finishing his career at Caza once more, again as a bit-part player. Going into management with Union Cathair, it was an open secret that his resume would be the first on the owner's desk if a managerial position at El Ruedo ever came up, and so it proved. While a limited player, Monterroso took his beloved Caza to two league titles.

Now in his late fifties, Monterroso has been prized away from his boyhood club for the summer as he takes temporary charge of Audioslavia's national team for the CAFA Cup.

Home shirt is traditionally worn with white shorts and socks, but if our opponents are wearing that colour then we switch to the same deep red as the shirts. This is what usually ends up happening. Dark green or black shorts have been worn on occasion.

THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF ESTORVIPA AND ESTORPIVA
NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Federal Republic of Estorvipa and Estorpiva is a federal union between two states, the Federation of Estorvipa and the Republic of Estorpiva, created on 22 November 2019 after the two states agreed to unite together and present a combined front against the other rebel sides in the Estorian Civil War. The Federal Republic is backed by the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia (or just Pridnestrovia for short), which was an ally of the old Estorvipan People's Republic before it collapsed into numerous competing factions and states, and Pridnestrovia decided that the Federal Republic was the most stable nation-state that they could support in this war. But despite being backed by a "socialist" nation and adopting some socialist imagery, the Federal Republic is a democratic republic with free and fair elections for the 27 million people under its governance, and its ultimate aim is to reunite the Vipan and Pivan lands peacefully, but if the Federal Republic must use force to restore peace and order in the land then it will certainly do so.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Federal Republic of Estorvipa and Estorpiva
Demonym: Estorian
Team colors: Yellow. blue, and red
Style modifier: -2.00
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Head coach: Foma Korniyenko (56 y/o, male, Pridnestrovia)

STARTERS
GK: Yaroslav SHCHETININ 37 y/o, male, FK Mamai Ihorivtsi (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
The future of the Estorian goalkeeping position looks very bright with him in between the sticks. He's already doing the job for Mamai Ihorivtsi, and local managers are praising him for his divine goalkeeping skills. His only weakness is that his passing is a bit poor, and opponents might be able to take advantage of that now that he is the starting goalkeeper for the national team.

RB: Aleksey KHOKHLOV 34 y/o, male, FK Traktor St. Paulsburg (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
An adequate defender with good pace. One would think that after making his way into the Federal Republic's national football team, Aleksey would have at least improved his defending somewhat, but he's still living off of his reputation as being a pace merchant even though in recent years, he has been getting cooked more and more often by opposition attackers. Strange world, strange players.

RCB: Vasilisa BERDYUGINA 32 y/o, female, FK Spartak Rybolovlev (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
She is weak in the defensive side of the game, let's not beat around the bush here. But she does make up for it somewhat with some adequate passing skills, which would be good for a team that's good enough and disciplined enough to be able to pass out from the back without a lot of issues. Unfortunately, those two things do not describe the Federal Republic's national football team at all. Shame, because otherwise Vasilisa would actually be good enough to at least contend for a starting spot in this team. That was, at least, until now.

LCB: Lukas KUKUMBERG 28 y/o, male, Exiles FK (Pridnestrovia)
He's reached the prime of his career, just in time to finally become part of the Federal Republic's starting eleven. Lukas is already a very good defender by pretty much any metric one could think of and still improving, and it isn't just the actual defending that's setting him apart from his peers; he also has solid pace and technique with the ball. The man pretty much has everything. Well, not everything though. His passing is actually the weakest part of his game, and by weak, it really is weak. If it's possible for someone to limp-wrist kicking a football, Lukas would be the one to prove it possible. Now he has to figure out how not to do all of that now that he's a starter for the national team.

LB: Slobodan KLADAR 29 y/o, male, FK Traktor St. Paulsburg (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
He is the Kladar that everyone associated with the Football Federation of the Federal Republic of Estorvipa and Estorpiva (FFREE) wanted to field in time for CAFA 9. Unfortunately, Slobodan suffered an injury that, while minor, would have ruled him out of taking part in the regional football competition anyway, resulting in the controversial callup of his older sister Bogdana. Now though, Slobodan is fully fit and rested and raring to go and represent the Federal Republic in a CAFA competition. As for how good of a defender he is, take Bogdana Kladar's skills and multiply it twice. That is how good Slobodan Kladar is.

RM: Kresimir TASIĆ 29 y/o, male, FC Cavaleri Urodorasul (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
Here's a good playmaker with good passing and adequate technique. What more can someone ask of Kresimir Tasic? Some maturity and levelheadedness, it turns out. All of those aforementioned skills mean squat when he can't keep his head on his shoulders when the situation requires it. If Kresimir is angry and wants to take out an opposition player's legs, nothing will stop him, not even the knowledge of an impending red card. But in the rare times that he's actually calm, Kresimir is actually an impressive asset on the pitch. It just seems like he spends more time off it than on because of suspensions and such.

LM: Lyudmila KRYVOSHAPKA 30 y/o, female, CSK Armiya Supskij (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
For someone who picked up football as a hobby because she was bored of serving as a receptionist in the reconstituted and rebuilt Federal Defense Forces of the Federal Republic, Lyudmila has to be surprised that she was even able to find her way into the national football team. At least she is good enough at football to be able to justify her inclusion in the national team. She has both creativity and stamina in droves, two things that are probably the most important skills for a midfielder. However, she does have a temper in her and can make rash decisions if she's ticked off. And now that she's starting alongside the equally hot-headed and ill-tempered Kresimir Tasic in the Estorian midfield, opponents are going to have a hard time getting through, at least until either one (or equally likely both of them) are sent off for an early shower.

RW: Zhanna PAPIROVA 29 y/o, female, FK Mamai Ihorivtsi (Pridnestrovia)
She's a good playmaker over on the right wing, and a surprisingly good defender as well when the situation demands. However, she's not the fastest person on the pitch, and her passing leaves a lot to be desired as well, but the Federal Republic needs some wingers to fill in the gaps left behind by the Kunaplenko siblings retiring from international football. There were probably better options out there, but none that could be called up on such short notice. But she might be able to make a name for herself in this team regardless.

CAM: Ashot RAZINSKIJ 34 y/o, male, CSK Armiya Supskij (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
The jack-of-all-trades used to play on the left side because of Rada Kostova practically making that CAM position her own when she was still playing. and also because of his wicked good left foot. With that left foot he could pick out any player he wanted, dribble his way out of trouble, or even nick the ball off of anyone trying to get through to the Estorian goal on the left side, and even score the occasional goal. Now Ashot has the opportunity to do all that, but in a more central position on the pitch.

LW: Tony PASCALIN 28 y/o, male, FC Cavaleri Urodorasul (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
If it weren't for the victory of the Federal Republic over the rest of the warring states in the Estorian Civil War, Anaia might never have been able to lay their eyes on this lad. Tony is an excellent striker with very good ball handling technique, but because he is an ethnic Pivan and the former State of Estorpiva didn't have the funds or the will to assemble their own national football team in the few years that it was in existence, he never would have been able to play against another country. All that said, he may be very good at putting the ball in the back of the net and even dancing his way out of trouble but he also can't run to save his own life.

ST: Oleh LOBANOVSKY 28 y/o, male, All-Inclusive Haranguer (Abanhfleft)
A somewhat versatile player who can play both in the middle or the left side of an attacking three formation. His pace and passing stats are about as average as one can get, but he also has a surprisingly clinical finish. If anything, he can annoy the opposition's defensive line as much as he can for as long as he can. If he does it coming off the bench, it leaves room for the Federal Republic to score some late goals, and if he does it as a starter, he leaves the defense vulnerable for the substitutes to take on.

RESERVES
GK: Gleb PAROV 34 y/o, male, FK Traktor St. Paulsburg (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
An excellent keeper for his age and has loads of pace which allows him to charge out of his box to intimidate opposing strikers, but has poor stamina which means that he might start sticking around his area as the game goes on.

GK: Viktor IVANOV 28 y/o, male, Bierburger SV (Pridnestrovia)
Known both for his dedication to his chosen profession and for being a model professional. He knows that he probably won't get a lot of game time being the third-choice goalkeeper but given his potential, it's probably only a matter of time before he becomes the primary custodian for the Federal Republic.

DF: Viktorija KESOVIJA 35 y/o, female, FK Mamai Ihorivtsi (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
She is a solid defender with adequate technique in her to help her get out of sticky situations when needed, and she is also a reasonable goalscoring threat during set pieces, or if she happens to get the ball somewhere outside the box in open play. However, she does have a weakness, and that is her pace. It's easy for her to get caught out of position sometimes, and because she knows that she can't get back in time, she will often resort to fouling the opposition instead.

DF: Branislau SIDAROVICH 30 y/o, male, Thereisnogodistan (Abanhfleft)
He's a good defender with excellent passing, and that's about as far as his positives go. He's a capable member of a four-man back line, that much is guaranteed. But that back line must be low and as static as possible because he's a literal boulder in the middle of the pitch otherwise. That probably explains why his club fell away from the international club football places in the second half of the season, when injuries mounted up and he had to become part of the starting eleven.

DF: Pavlo KALITVINTSEV 32 y/o, male, Dynamo Ja (Abanhfleft)
He's the exact opposite to his potential new partner in the middle of the Estorian defense, meaning that he is a pacey left-footed center back who can't really pass it anywhere with reasonable accuracy beyond a one-meter circle around his left foot. He and Branislau Sidarovich are actually an almost perfect complement to each other, so watch the Estorian national team start only one of them or leave both these defenders on the bench until it's possibly too late for them to make any meaningful contributions.

DF: Bogdana KLADAR 32 y/o, female, FK Traktor St. Paulsburg (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
She is a brilliant defender in her own right with good passing skills even if she is a bit plodding, but all of that will undoubtedly be overshadowed by the fact that there was a distinct possibility that her brother Slobodan would have been called up instead of her had he not gotten injured in the final days of the league season. She'll have a lot to prove, not really on the pitch because everyone acknowledges that's she good in her own right, but because of the aforementioned controversy she's been consigned to the bench in the meantime.

MF: Sergey LYUBOMIROV 34 y/o, male, Xemlice Rovers (Abanhfleft)
He doesn't really have a lot of pace, but he doesn't really need it when his role is to lock down the midfield, distribute the ball, and make the occasional tackle. He's not the one supposed to be doing all of the tackling though, because if that is the case then that means that the rest of the midfield has been overrun. He probably won't be the exact replacement for Arseniy Davydov or even Rahmatullo Rodin that the team would want him to be, but he does a good enough job doing their jobs in the team so he will have to suffice in the meantime.

MF: Grigoriy ZAYAKIN 25 y/o, male, SC Batgeyt-1 (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
Some would even go so far as to say that he was responsible for Batgeyt's domination in the new Federal Second League of Estoria. The local lad is the epitome of the defensive midfielder; the rock in the middle of the pitch through which everyone and everything must go through with no regard if it's for his team or against it. He can defend, he can run, he can tackle, he can ping a pass to practically any corner of the pitch. And to think that just two years ago, he was doing all of this for the love of the game and not getting paid a lot.

MF: Baltazar KOLOMYJSKI 28 y/o, male, FK Traktor St. Paulsburg (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
It shouldn't really be that hard to nail down where Baltazar would fit in a football team. He has a formidable right foot on him that has led him to scoring some incredible goals from pretty much any conceivable range, yet somehow he couldn't use that same right foot for anything more than some basic passing and crossing if it came to that. So why in the world is he listed as a midfielder and not a forward? Call it a quirk in the new manager's methodology. Or call it the fact that Baltazar did all of that in an attacking midfield position.

FW: Kateryna DUKHNO 31 y/o, female, FK Spartak Rybolovlev (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
Another player whom many believed was always destined to wear the yellow shirt sooner rather than later were it not for unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances. She was always a very pacey winger with excellent passing and technique, but she never got to show the full extent of her abilities during her time with All-Inclusive Haranguer in Abanhfleft, whether it was because of injuries or the quality of the players ahead of her in the lineup. It took a return to her motherland to finally unlock the potential that would get her noticed by the federation, as well as Vika Zaluzhenko retiring from international football for Kateryna to finally get that long-awaited call-up.

FW: Petru-Iustin UDEANU 34 y/o, male, FK Dinamo Durdenville (Estorvipa and Estorpiva)
An average striker whose main job is to just be there to receive the ball and shoot at goal when it gets passed to him. He can dribble his way out of trouble if need be, but if he needs to spend more than a few seconds thinking about where to shoot then it's a guaranteed miss or save from the keeper once he finally pulls the trigger. Many were tipping him to be the Federal Republic's new starting striker once Marek Lemish retired from international duty, but rumors of bust-ups in training have resulted in him falling down the pecking order in the eyes of the federation.

FW: Vyacheslav TSYGANOV 22 y/o, male, CSKA Tiraspol (Pridnestrovia)
He was tearing it up in Pridnestrovia's youth football leagues as one of the best strikers that CSKA had produced, so much so that it was only a matter of time before eyes turned to him with an eye of recruiting him towards representing one country or another. As with a lot of other Estorians, Vyacheslav Tsyganov's family fled their old motherland due to the civil war, and Vyacheslav could have represented Pridnestrovia if he wanted due to because he had already lived there since he was two years old, but the call of Estoria was strong in his heart and he chose to put on the yellow shirt instead of the red-and-green one.

Coach Bourguignon and his staff fired!

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, Nova Calania - Following the very bad result at World Cup 97, coach Gilles Bourguignon has been fired along with his three assistants, Isabella Sanchez Lopez, Françoise Desruisseaux and Gregor McCaskill, and the goalkeeping coach, Pierre-Paul Mongrain, effective immediately. Bourguignon had 35 wins, 23 draws and 41 losses in 99 matches with the national team. Funnily, the first CAFA X match will be Nova Calania/Saint-Jean-Jacques' 100th international game. We're already just a few weeks before the start of CAFA Cup X and replacements are still to be named.

Short Nation History:

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer is a city state of 78 square kilometers located in Anaia and founded in lhe 18th century by Jean-Jacques Le Boucanier (John James The Buccaneer), a pirate of unknown North or Central Calanian origin who decided to retire from piracy and found his own nation south of his country of origin. Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer has emerged in the 20th century as a merchant city state which favors capitalism. The current ruler of Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer is Prince Pierre-Alexandre 1er de Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, a direct descendant of Jean-Jacques Le Boucanier. Elections are outlawed in Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer. The national animal is the tapir, which you can see wandering in our streets.

Burnham-on-Stove

Burnham-on-Stove is a city state of 54 square kilometers located in Anaia. It used to be a district whitin Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer and it's named after William Robert Burnham, a pirate and friend of Jean-Jacques Le Boucannier. In september 1923, several communist districts of Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, mostly of English origin, declared their independence and formed the new nation of Burnham-on-Stove. The Burnhamese Communist Party is the only authorized party in Burnham-on-Stove. The national animal is also the Tapir.

Nova Calania

500: The first documented permanent Aztec settlements in Nova Calania dates from around 500 AD.

1748: Explorers of Polish origins came to the area just south of Krytenia and southwest of Ibixa and founded the town of Ostrow Krolewski on the shores of the Ocean of Ayes. They named the area Odlegla Ziemia (Distant Land).

1760-1820: Odlegla Ziemia expanded southwest and further inland on the east.

1793: Jean-Jacques le boucanier established his colony in what is known today as Vieux-Saint-Jean-Jacques (Old St. Jean-Jacques) or Vieille-Ville (Old Town) just northeast of Cardenao. This is the foundation of Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer. The city state expanded on both side of the Stove river.

1818: Explorers of Asian origin came to the area between Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer and Odlegla Ziemia and founded the city state of Shanzhou. This stopped Odleglian expansion southwest of their capital.

1851-54: The Aztecs, helped with some mercenaries from Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer and Burnham-on-Stove, attacked Odlegla Ziemia and took back 1/3 of Odlegla Ziemia's land that was previously stolen from the Aztecs.

1923: Districts of Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer located north of the Stove river (mostly English speaking) declared their independence and formed a new communist state under the name of Burnham-on-Stove.

2023: Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer and Burnham-on-Stove united to form a new sporting alliance. Both nations remained independents on all aspects, except they shared a joint national team in all sports.

2025: On may 15th 2025, leaders from Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, Burnham-on-stove, Odlegla Ziemia, Shanzhou and the Nova Calanian Aztec Confederacy united together to form the United States of Nova Calania. Unlike Saint-Jean-Jacques et Burnham-on-Stove, it's not just a sporting alliance. It's a policical, economic, military and sporting alliance.

The Avisoran National Football Team is ready to go once again after failing to qualify out of their World Cup Qualifying group. We are a small nation of around 25 thousand people, located in the west of Hodeikoleku. The Penguins came 7th in a group that included fellow Anaians Ko-oren. The Avisoran team managed a win and a draw against a team that only lost thrice and drew twice, reaching the round of 32.

The fans have lowered their expectations after a great Baptism of Fire performance excited everyone back home. We can only hope for a handful of wins and as many goals as possible for our brothers.

The Penguins will be playing their home games at the National Sports Complex, the biggest stadium in the nation with a capacity for 2,500 people. This stadium is maintained to remain in perfect conditions and is only used for national events.

Manager Pedro Valencia has announced he will give continuity to those involved in the previous tournaments this cycle, still using a 4-2-3-1 and 5-3-2 interchangeably. His style of play is a patient one, focusing on remaining in charge of the ball and being smart with it to squander the least amount of chances. Below is the team information for the Avisoran national team:

Amahne (Aminey) - Stade sur la Baie (70000) - home to Aminey CS (and the Aminey Caspians, Aminey Buffaloes, and Aminey Owls).
The flagship stadium, huge production values, the works. Azure-coloured seating under canvas roofing. A beautiful circular stadium built in foreign Classical traditions.

Shemurdar (Schemerdrecht) - Orange Bowl (54000) - home to Schemerdrecht SVV (and the Schemerdrecht Admirals).
More associated perhaps with the Admirals than the SVV, but it's nearly always sold out venue for great crowds in any sport. A robust, somewhat boring square monster with little attention paid to its external looks.

Maethoru (Maethoru) - Rikalathen Arena (39000) - home to Maethoru SC (and Mayara Wanderers-Vulpecula).
Close to the KFA's training grounds, at least it has that going for it. Crowds are a little quieter here than elsewhere. A pristine pitch with seating in a few shades of green matching the field, all seating covered.

Ethuweri (Étouille) - Stade Amandine (30000) - home to Tanques AOE (and the Etouille Vultures).
Some amazing drone shots over a stadium, a city, and a crowd that knows what makes life fun. Extremely sponsor-friendly with its skybox layout, at the cost of the view of some nosebleeds.

Thelesra (Santa Teresa) - Estádio Fortaleza (29000) - home to Miradela GD (and the Santa Teresa Sabres).
Made to be exactly 1000 seats larger than their rivals' stadium, the Fortaleza is the upper-class stadium. They tried to make it look old and well-used with a specific standing-only section, but even there the privilege is palpable.
OR
Thelesra (Santa Teresa) - Estádio Marítimo (28000) - home to Branvon CD.
The working class stadium that is, in all facets, a bit inferior to the Fortaleza. Except the crowds. There's no better stadium for wild crowds. Plenty of standing-only areas, no cover, barely making it through inspections.

Monrama (Maynard) - Armskirk Municipal Ground (26000) - home to Maynard AFC.
The unlucky Maynard team have asked the KFA to have their stadium used by the national team - as the only southwestern stadium. The Armskirk isn't a bad stadium by all means, but some of the creative decisions in seating arrangements haven't paid off.

Katahshi (Katashi) - Suzumebachi Stadium (25000) - home to Katashi-Kanatsu.
The biggest stadium in the east, Katahshi deserves a game. The fans will mostly just cheer for eastern players, though. It's a wonderfully modern and digital stadium - the first with screens going all around the place.

Garihnkatar (Greencaster) - Golhampton Grounds (25000) - home to Sydberg Olympia.
Garihnkatar never had a big football culture, but that's changed, and the local Olympia have kept pace with the hype. Biggest city in the country, too. It feels like a much bigger stadium than it is, with plenty of options for later enlargement.

Ehbanna (Aevanna) - Northern Arena (32000) - home to university team 'Aevanna Ecologiske Universitet'.
The KFA wants some games geographically spread across the country, and so the cold, dark, and cold gridiron Northern Arena is on the list. The largely roofed stadium is partially dug in to prevent the Arena from dominating the skyline.

Alahrenna (Alara) - Spider Stadium (27100) - home to Advance Alara.
Eastern but not on the island Katahshi's on. Fans are used to seeing a lot of goals - which the Dragonflies don't do. The stadium has a lot of staggered mini-sections, make of that what you will.

Seterdahn (Straudum) - Hazel Arena (25400) - home to Straudum VV.
Biggest stadium in the northeast, as far as the mainland goes. Straudum's style matches the NT's style perfectly. Propped up by the massive (rich) IT sector. It's still sold out more often than not as one of the better stadium experiences out there.

Gilibehri (Eaglebury) - Uriagali Field (18000) - home to WSR AFC and Pride of Eaglebury.
Biggest/only stadium on the west coast. Gilibehri has an amazing, flourishing sports culture and it's no longer completely ignored by the other 99% of the country. The stadium boasts an impressive view of the mountains.

1 GK Galorian Antair (20) - Maethoru SC
10 GK Aomagu Enav (19) -

Antair is a Theshendan-level talent quickly gobbled up by Maethoru to fuel their unsatiable hunger for gold. An incredible goalie on the line with cat-like reflexes to bail out any defensive error. Behind him is Aomagu Enav, a new name, recently 'graduated' from university team Dignirkhajakhi Thelikigiri and waiting for any offers to come out of the Top League - which there will be. She's a type we haven't had many of, a goalie who's part of the defence instead of a random person waiting behind the defence.

Image
2 RB Sissigul Zulambee (21) - Straudum VV
12 RB Masachika Eguchi (22) -
22 RB Visajo Jokomizo (21) -

Zulambee is the obvious choice at rightback with his years of experience on the always-young Straudum squad which somehow keeps getting results no matter how many players aged 23-26 they ship off elsewhere. The 21-year old fits the mould and will likely start for the national team for a good while to come. Eguchi was let go from a relegated Alara team and is looking for offers. He's much faster and more dynamic - hence the Alara connection - and pushes up as a winger. Jokomizo is a new name, fresh off of her university team, also getting her start in professional football.

3 CB Keiki Todaka (22) - Urrheddiao, CMT
13 CB Shoipeoru Muifunin (19) -
23 CB Unotak Zhomodhen (20) - Miradela GD

Todaka is special, no other word for it. Easily the best defender to come out of Ko-oren in ages - maybe Juliasterinthen and Davenport. Skill, vision, and physique meets an upbeat personality who wants to make players around him better, and at a pivotal centreback position, it's a matter of time before he gets the captain's armband. Behind him, roughly, are Muifunin, a relative unknown, and Zhomoden of Miradela, who was a backup in the championship year and then started when the yellow-lime club relegated. Don't worry, he's good. Muifunin is intelligent without overthinking things - let's see how long she can keep her innocence.

4 CB Conrat Loper (22) - Schemerdrecht SVV
14 CB Edomu Aomegella (21) - Maynard AFC
24 CB Aerpu Eelin (20) -

Loper is among the better players in Ko-oren, and disregarding the late 30-somethings who might not appear for the Dragonflies all that often anymore, he's pretty much a starter already. He's part of the Schemerdrecht renaissance, an uncompromising, moody operative in the middle of the defence. Aomegella's the opposite, all too happy to tackle you in twine if you come too close. Eelin is a new name as well, maybe not a long time option for the team, but showing way too much of an upside to not include her.

5 CB Justaes de Groene (21) - Straudum VV
15 CB Joshio Sokeden (18) -
25 CB Sanche Bassin (21) -

De Groene is another Straudumite - that is, a young defender who'll probably get sold for 10 million plus in a year or 5. Mistakes are rare for him, but that's partially due to growing up in that system. Sokeden and Bassin are new, both looking for a new contract, with Sokeden needing to mature a lot in a year or two to make his signature worthwile. There's a lot of talent there but it's not unlocked 100%.

6 LB Theklen Senothonnau (21) - Straudum VV
16 LB Dwrwst yBons (21) - Schemerdrecht SVV
26 LB Maude Campbell (22) - Bruncester United AFC

Senothonnau is another beyond special human being (is she even human?) as the natural successor to Van Kalvenhaar, she's lightning fast, won't show much emotion (for better and worse), understands her task, and points out where her teammates aren't living up to her immeasurably high standards. yBons is great but unlucky to be the same age as Theklen, as he's part of that new Schemerdrecht core hoping to carry the proud blue and yellow in the Champions League. He's more unpredictable but still hard to fault for mistakes. Campbell is an even more lightweight version, drifting off to create advantageous situations wherever needed.

Image
7 DM Olikek Azerhendhen (22) - Raynor City United, VAL
17 DM Ngjunei Meigun (19) - Gehrenna FC
27 DM Hixinio Andrade (22) -

8 CM Annefleur Nakasarudhen (18) - Maethoru SC

9 LM Amand Mathey (21) - Aminey CS

X RM Misako Yamakawa (20) - Maynard AFC
1X RM Yoshinori Takiguchi (22) -

It's the era of the defensive midfielder: after years without one, Dhentingun was a mainstay, and now there's three candidates. Zealous Azerhendhen who won't ever let an attacking midfielder go; Meigun, slower but a step ahead; and Andrade, once lauded but after far too much on his plate, a relegation with Miradela, he already needs to reinvent himself age 22. If there's anyone who can do that, it's the studious Andrade, though.

Nakasarudhen is the Entatingun/yCinrhadd-like midfielder to see us into the 100s (as in, World Cup cycles). She can wrap everyone around her finger, especially referees, and has been rewarded with a Maethoru contract at age 18. And that says so much.

On the wings: Mathey, dancing around defenders and still making time to help out the defence. And Yamakawa, very comfortable when she knows she has the better of her opponent and then going in for the kill, backed up by Takiguchi, who is 2 years her senior and graduated from the same university team, but he is also a victim of a disappointing Alara side.

Where the position of defensive midfielder is completely back, it's the office of attacking midfielder and/or second striker who kind of disappeared from this cohort of 17-to-23 year olds.

Image
= RS Toshitsugu Hiraide (21) - Katashi-Kanatsu
1= LS Teiji Shimaoka (22) - Maethoru SC
2= LS Megina Gesenthenden (22) -

18 ST Aomoca Aenenolin (23) - Pesfield Trees, SYL
19 ST Anthes Ganehudin (23) - Vereniging Huftstad, CNR

It's extremely hard to argue against Hiraide, who's been the starter for a bit now. He connects well enough with his surroundings to fit in. Shimaoka is at least as strong - maybe stronger - and can leverage his height to create chances for others to finish. Gesenthenden is new on the radar, looking for her third contract already, after adventures at Sydberg and Granon, though considerably harder to work with, though far more able to create something from nothing.

Pure finishers Aenenolin and Ganehudin are mentioned separately as the team is looking more for a drop-back striker than a pinch hitter. If needed, though, Aenenolin can command a defence's attenion, while Ganehudin is a step ahead of the opposition and hopes his midfield can drop in a pass where he expects it, but relies a lot on chemistry.

We play post-football, a term coined during World Cup 89 to put words to a horrible semifinal between Audioslavia and the Dragonflies, which ended 0-0 after 120 minutes, then all but one penalty was scored in the ensuing series. Post-football means no singing. No cheering. No scoring. Post-football is sideways passes, looking like the same, repetitive movements for minutes on end, but with tiny variations that at some point will get to you. It could be a counterattack, or a shot from distance, or a set piece. Post-football doesn't care if it takes 90 or 120 minutes, or more. Under Juliasterinthen and Davenport, the Ko-orenites earned a reputation as the perfectly positioned, tactical-yet-mean defensive team. Containing, capitalising, exploiting. Patience and countering.

Under Lele Manguele, an era that started just before CAFA 7 in cycle 94, we're breaking with traditions. Still targeted at preventing goals, the team instead tries to retain possession for as long as possible, in small, compact spaces, merging relationism with tenacious defence, for what that's worth and to what extent that's possible. Relations between individual players are now more important than retaining perfect structure. That means that the midfield will forgo most of their roles, and that the defence will break the line to help the passing game.

Numbers 1 to = typically start (but not always, feel free to choose your starters). That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, X, and =.
Numbers 1-1= are typically selected as starters or subs (but not always, feel free to select some 23+-ers as subs or starters).
Numbers 20 and over are mostly there as emergency replacements, but can be part of the squad for some games. These are almost always younger players with a lot of promise.

HISTORY

Chromatika first entered the World Cup in Cycle 73, going a modest 3-2-7. They made the Cup of Harmony in Cycle 74, and qualified for the first time in Cycle 75, losing in the Round of Sixteen. Chromatika would have their most successful campaign in World Cup 76, making it to the 3rd place Playoff before finishing in fourth place, despite the domestic upheaval in the country. Their first Manager, Franscesca Larriet-Cortes, was martyred at the end of World Cup 75; the political stresses of the job made it so that Lisa Amos, the team's Manager after Franscesca, resigned after World Cup 76.

The team would enjoy continued success from World Cup 77 through World Cup 81, as Silian Parker helped the squad qualify for the World Cup every time, and the team even made it to the Round of Sixteen or beyond three of those times. Even when Chromatika didn't enter World Cup 82, their return to the World Cup in 83 was a success, though both World Cup 83 and 84 saw the Anomalies stymied at the Proper Group Stage - 84 being under new management in Nepharan Konrad Evans.

World Cup 85 was a disaster - the team didn't qualify and didn't even make a deep run in the Cup of Harmony, leading to the sacking of Evans and the appointment of Richard Valens of Krytenia and Tim Landers of Delaclava. The team would qualify in World Cup 86, and 87, host the World Cup in 88, and return to the Proper in 89. However, Chromatika was not making the deep runs that the nation wanted/needed, so they said goodbye to Valens and Landers and looked inward.

Sandra Sybill and Rachel Hellion, key figures during Chromatika's runs in the early days, stepped in. A loss to Nyowani Kitara meant that they were eliminated, but the team turned around and won the 82nd Cup of Harmony. The following cycle, they made it to the Playoffs, where a loss in penalties to Zeta Reka and Hügeltaldom sealed the fate of Sybil and Hellion. Lisa Amos stepped in to lead the team to a respectable Quarterfinal finish in the resulting Cup of Harmony, and Chromatika was left wondering just how far they were away from the glory days.

Lev Repin came in, promising glory - and the Anomalies grabbed it off the cuff, winning their Group to qualify ahead of Ko-oren. Put into a group with Turori, Eura, and Cassadaigua, the Anomalies lost to Turori 3-0 before recovering to win narrowly over Eura and Cassadaigua. They'd fall 1-2 to perennial powerhouses Græntfjall, but they had finally broken back through.

Then, with the World Cup returning to Chromatika, the Anomalies went on the run of a lifetime, making their way to the World Cup Final, beating Zwangzug in the process. They eventually lost the final 3-4 to Banija, but had put themselves back as the #4 team in the world and capable of contending at the biggest stage.

World Cup 94 saw the Anomalies make the Round of Sixteen before losing to Banija once again; then, they cohosted World Cup 95 with Sylestone, only to go 0-2-1 in the Group Stage and not make the Round of Sixteen. World Cup 96 saw a dominant qualifying cycle - only losing once on the final matchday to Abanhfleft - culminate with another Group Stage exit at the hands of Juvencus.

Repin and the Chromatik Football Federation decided to part ways. They then brought in Khabibullina, who did well enough in the CAFA before leading Chromatika to the World Cup Proper in World Cup 97. They ended that foray with three defeats in the World Cup Proper - including a 0-7 drubbing of Farfadillis - which was a disaster.

MANAGEMENT STAFF

MG ImageAlina KHABIBULLINA | Age: 48 | Debut Cycle: 97
The new Manager of Chromatika. A relatively new find, Khabibullina is a motivator and a technician who likes to try to get the most out of her charges. The expectations being placed on her shoulders are enormous - the supposed Golden Generation of Chromatika is getting older - but with a communicator at the helm, perhaps this is exactly what they needed. They did well enough the first time around, even though losing three in the World Cup Proper wasn't the best... Now, she enters the CAFA having declared that this will be where the players develop - with only those that have less than fifty caps allowed to participate.

PHY ImageZoe "Z" Benne | Age 48 | Debut Cycle: 80
Once a heartthrob, Zoe Benne is married to former Chromatik superstar and now White Mountain club manager Erika Morningstar. Zoe has been a constant for thirteen cycles now, and has had to treat everything from sprained ankles to serious injuries after the bus sabotage last cycle. She remains a great asset.

SMC ImageShelby Arling | Age: 33 | Debut Cycle: 87
The presence of Arling as the Social Media Coordinator has become as important as ever. She is the primary communications officer for all things regarding the Senior Squad, and one of the confidants of Repin. All questions go through her, and she takes away any and all distractions.

TACTICAL INFORMATION
(Many thanks to Mytanija for the blueprint.)

Chromatika's 3-4-1-2 is based off of Mytanija's formation.

3-4-1-2 – IN POSSESSION: Chromatika's base formation for World Cup 97 qualification is a 3-4-1-2. This means there will be 3 central defenders, a wing-back on either side, 2 central midfielders, an attacking midfielder and 2 strikers on the pitch at any one time. This does not mean that the team will play in these positions for the whole game, as Chromatiks have adopted the Mytanar philosophy of flexibility in and out of possession, utilizing the fact that until very recently, they ran a 4-3-2-1/4-4-1-1. When Chromatika has the ball the 3-4-1-2 will change into more of a 3-2-5 shape, this is designed to try to create overloads in attacking areas so that the Chromatiks can create two versus one situations where the opposition have to make decisions on who they will engage with.

This 3-2-5 will be achieved firstly by one of the wing-backs (from the starting line-up, this would be right-sided wing-back Ibayashi Haitou) moving into a central midfield position to play alongside the deeper-lying of the two central midfielders (Marion Goo, if among the Starting XI). This creates a pairing in central midfield which will be used to help the team build-up, providing passing options both in front of the central defensive three and the 5 players which end-up ahead of them.

That 5 is made-up of the opposite-sided wing-back (in this example it would be left wing-back Names Mátyás), the more advanced central midfielder (Evin Françine-Miklavivec), the attacking midfielder (Maddie Prenn); and the strikers (usually Kaytlyn Jean-Baptiste and Harriet Baïe-Verte). The wing-back has to push on to achieve the 3-2-5 shape, getting into the final third and maintaining the width on their side of the pitch. They will be given some license to get into the penalty area if the ball is on the other side, giving another option for their teammates. The more advanced central midfielder will be tasked with playing inside of the wing-back, in the so-called ‘half-space’, they will look to work with the wing-back to create an overload on their side of the pitch.

The attacking midfielder and the two strikers will interchange fairly freely, though one will always be tasked with pulling wide to ensure that width is maintained on both sides of the attacking ‘5’ with the aim of stretching the opposition’s defense across the width of the pitch. One striker (usually Baïe-Verte in the Starting XI) will drop deep to create space for rotations with the attacking midfielder and the other striker, those two looking to run into and exploit the space vacated by the other striker. These rotations are aimed to shift the opposition defenders around the pitch and create a bit of confusion.

In terms of progressing the play the team will look to move the ball with controlled pace. The team will aim to do this with utmost precision, as is the Chromatik way.

3-4-1-2 – OUT OF POSSESSION: Chromatika's reaction to losing the ball depends on where they actually lose possession on the pitch. Should they lose the ball high-up the pitch, in the opposition’s half, then there will be an instantaneous reaction to press the opponent with the ball to try to win it back quickly high-up the pitch. This is hoped to create chances nearer to the opposition’s goal, effectively using the press as a playmaker. If the opponent breaks through the initial press then Chromatika will look to recover into a 5-3-2 shape as below. Should Chromatika lose the ball nearer to their own goal then they will instantly look to recover into defensive positions to try to make themselves difficult to break down. This shape will be closer to a 5-3-2 than the 3-4-1-2 starting formation.

Both wing-backs will drop deeper, alongside the three central defenders to form the 5. The two central midfielders (Goo and Françine-Miklavivec), will drop deep in front of the three central defenders to shield them a little and the attacking midfielder (Maddie Prenn), will drop to play in front of them, operating as a bit of a guard dog – either sitting on an opposition deep-lying playmaker to try to stop the ball into them, or by leading a half-pitch press. The two strikers will look to stop the ball going back to the opposition’s central defenders and press them when they are in possession.

Chromatika will also play a variety of other formations should they want to play a little differently, the most likely ones they would change to from the 3-4-1-2 are a 3-5-2 (taking out the attacking midfielder and using three central midfielders); a 4-3-1-2 (pushing the wing-backs back to play as full-backs, removing a central defender and replacing them with a defensive or central midfielder); a 4-2-3-1 (pushing the wing-backs back to play as full-backs, removing a central defender and a striker and then playing a winger on either side); or a narrow 4-4-2 diamond (pushing the wing-backs back to play as full-backs, removing a central defender to play either as a defensive or central midfielder). Chromatika is very versed in the 4-2-3-1 and the 4-4-2, as they've played those before under previous management.

STRATEGY SUMMARY: Khabibullina is a motivator through and through who tries to get the most out of her players; the thought is that the strategy is not bad - they just weren't applying themselves fully, or were going through some things. Hopefully, that'll be enough.

Chromatik Bid to Host CAFA X

Hosting Experience:
The user behind Chromatika has hosted the 88th edition of the World Cup with Cassadaigua, 93rd edition of the World Cup with Tumbra, and 95th edition of the World Cup with Sylestone. They have also hosted a bevy of other competitions in football, including the 46th edition of the Baptism of Fire as Yesopalitha, while also successfully hosting the 73rd edition of said tournament as Chromatika, the 52nd Cup of Harmony, and the 12th Under-18 World Cup, to name but a few highlights. Outside of football, the user has also hosted six major tournaments from other sports, including baseball, gridiron/American football, basketball and ice hockey, giving them a wealth of experience on the forums.

Proposed Format:
We have had 24-30 nations sign up in the past. To keep up with the tradition of the CAFA having unusual formats, I'd like to continue the double elimination format.

24 nations - 4 groups of 6 - single round robin - top three to modified double elimination playoffs (Top two to Winner's Quarterfinals, third place to First Elimination Match)
25 nations - 5 groups of 5 - single round robin - top three to double elimination alongside best fourth place
28 nations - 4 groups of 7 - single round robin - top three to modified double elimination playoffs (Top two to Winner's Quarterfinals, third place to First Elimination Match)
30 nations - 5 groups of 6 - single round robin - top three to double elimination alongside best fourth place
32 nations - 8 groups of 4 - double round robin - top two to double elimination

Tiebreakers will be Points, Goal Differential, Head-to-Head Result, Coin Flip (Extra match scored just using RP Bonus).

NOTE: All matches involving Chromatika and Yesopalitha will be scored by a Third Party that isn't in Anaia, or, in extreme cases where such a User cannot be found, a Third Party.

RP Bonus will be generous. No AI will be permitted except Image Generation (when declared by the RP poster) and translation service, unless used creatively as a part of the RP (with the creative use being declared). An example of this is writing about AI usage in your country with examples of AI written text written by an AI. I encourage you to TG or DM me directly if you want to go down this route.

TRIUMVIRATUS

Style Mod: -3

HISTORY

Triumviratus is a former colony of the Roman Republic, one summer's evening the islands were surrounded by a fog that rolled in to within a mile of the islands shores. The mists remained the next morning, and each morning afterwards. A ship was sent out to investigate but did not return and no ships ever came through from the other side. The islanders carried on for hundreds of years, the sea still held plentiful fish, the land yielded crops, then one morning after thousands before it the mists lifted. A ship was sent out once more, and found that the islands were no longer where they were, they were now in a region known as Anaia. Triumviratus then began opening diplomatic relations with those in the region, but found that sport was the language of diplomacy. Most specifically a sport that resembled in some way a sport the people of Triumviratus had long played Harpastum, wishing to carry on diplomatic relations they have formed a squad or contubernium for an upcoming regional tournament for this sport which due to it's similarity has been named Harpastum Anaicus

PLAYING•STYLE

Triumviratus play a very physical game but importantly not a dirty game, while this will still mean certainly many yellow cards and more than the average team's red cards, this is not done in an ill-tempered manner with certainly no intent to injure opposing players. They will accept the referee's decision without question. They are also unlikely to be drawing fouls from the other team, as due to the physical nature of their play they will keeping trying to play through instead of going to ground to get a free-kick or even penalty, if they go down it will because they couldn't continue. In addition to the physical nature of the game they will play a very defensive game, playing in a 5-3-2 formation, playing most games within their own half trying to draw in the other teams to commit players, then counter-attacking with a long ball.

Roster for the Legalese National Team for CAFA X

Style Modifier: +5 . Viva Takil.
RP permissions
If you RP the match first, your permissions are my permissions. Seriously, whatever you’re okay with folks doing to your team is what I grant you for mine. I reserve the right to make minor “corrections”/disagreements in my narrative when it comes to my team (particularly when it comes to severity of injuries), but otherwise, you do you. On the off chance that your permissions are also a mirror, pretty much do what you want to my team, noting the above.
Technical note: If you’ve specified goalscorers by name, consider your permissions as the rough equivalent of on-field players when naming my goalscorers.

Legalese is a quiet, medium-sized nation sitting near the geographic center of Anaia. Where many of the nations of the Bekkside are known for something, Legalese is best known for being there. On the pitch, it’s better known as a place where the footballing multiverse’s competitions are occasionally played, than for being the place where the trophies reside.

Full Nation Name: The Unified Communities of Legalese
Short/Common Use Name: Legalese
Three-Letter Designation: LGL
Denonym: Legalite
Governing Body: The Federation of Assocation Football, simply referred to as The Federation

Along with shirt numbers, each player’s shirt name is listed in ALL CAPS

The bulk of the time in goal will go to Toose -- that is, Kawacatoose Swamp Johnson (who prefers to be referred to by his first name, which is on the back of his kit). Kawacatoose has been described previously as tall, outgoing, and dramatic -- all useful traits for a keeper that tends to face a lot of shots. He uses both his physical presence and his personality to maximize any potential psychological advantage he can get over his opponents, as they may feel intimidated by his size and quick wit. Additionally, he tends to be the “playcaller” of sorts for the defense -- sorely needed, given the midfield-heavy formation he’ll see in front of him. Chapple and Pett are both unlikely to see the pitch, but both have surprisingly similar characteristics to the wearer of the #1 kit; in a country where basketball was more prominent, you’d expect either to be playing center or power forward instead.

The four names may suggest a thin back line, but not quite for Legalese, as typically only two of the four will be on the pitch at a time. Jack Farmer, who wears the captain’s armband when on the pitch, is the mainstay in the back, though it’s rumored this may be his final international tournament. The rational, constructive defender (and plumber during the off-season) from Repods is somewhat lanky for a center back, but uses his extra pace to keep up with fleet-footed strikers. Paired with him is Matthew Bohan. Bohan’s laid-back personality (not all too uncommon from fellow Coastal County residents on the Karin Island portion of the nation) and slower-than-Farmer step is not surprising, given he’s physically the stereotypical center back.

Should either Bohan or Farmer not be up for the match, you’ll see Isaac Longboat and Xalvador Connelly-Houlihan as their respective replacements. Longboat might as well be Bohan’s stunt double: same height, similar disposition (he grew up one town over from Bohan), and similar imposition. Xalvador Connelly-Houlihan, known more often as Ex-Dash, meanwhile, is the polar opposite of Jack Farmer’s rational behavior. While he’s known for being willing to go toe-to-toe with anyone, he’s also known to occasionally pick the wrong hill to die on. If anyone’s going to get sent off, it’s Xal.

The midfield is the core of most footballing sides. In Legalese, it is taught as a core competency. Midfielders are expected to be the jacks of all trades, with the greatest finding a way to master in one or two. With five-to-six (yes, six) midfielders typically on the pitch, the match philosophy (and response to the opposition) tends to lean on the specialties in the eleven. Roddy Nelson and Faron Hill-Adams are, to some extent, wing backs playing up a bit further naturally (and occasionally too far, it being the cause of many an opposition goal). Meanwhile, you have Jack Moses playing anchorman, with a tendency to drop even further back. AC Sheehy is a bit more versatile, as the box-to-box midfielder, while Joseph Damhan is more of an attacking playmaker than anything else. This is where to expect the bulk of the substitutions, particularly when the initial gameplan seems to have gotten the read incorrectly.

In keeping with a heavy attack and press, The typical Legalite forward only tracks back into the defensive half when absolutely necessary -- and even that takes some convincing in the obvious cases (like defending a corner). Even so, the general aim is to pick a complement of styles and traits amongst the trio. As it applies to the three typical starters, that involves an attacking forward in Leo Hill-Tanner, a playmaker (bordering on Trequartista levels of minimal defense) in Lily Tonawanda, and a poacher in the form of Hasana Hirst. Substitutions up top tend to be rare, but if needed, Ritchie Funderbunk is the closest tactical replacement for Hill-Tanner; Mark Brady slots in for Tonawanda, and Fell Warriner fills in for Hasana Hirst.

Manager: Chogan Williams
The Denby native, in his forties, continues as manager into the regionals, persisting longer than anyone imagined. His strength is that he’s more of a people person, and tends to fill the team cohesion and motivation roles as his key realms, deferring tactics, training, and preparation to his assistants. He’s also been seen carrying a stainless steel tumbler of coffee from the coffee shop nearest his residence in Central Junction, where he’s a co-op member.

Assistant Managers: Aisling Titterington and Mikaela Sampson
Joining Williams are -- as always -- his braintrust, the pair of Titteringston and Sampson. The pair, both in their mid thirties, were childhood friends (they grew up near Central Junction) and are nearly inseparable. Aisling’s the tactical guru -- she’s the one responsible for developing and implementing the formation, and putting it through the paces with the side, usually in a gruff manner. Mikaela, on the other hand, is the analyst. She researches the data, studies the tape, and figures out what’s working, and what isn’t, with a quiet resolve.

The attacking-minded Legalites continue to lean into aggressive formations; while slightly less extreme than previous forms, the current go-to is the 2-5-3. Yes, that’s two central defenders, a trio of forwards on the front line, and five midfielders connecting them in whatever configuration is deemed appropriate for the match.

Ideally, the formation will resemble a series of triangles: the fullback with the defensive midfielder; the defensive mid with a wing midfielder and attacking mid; the attacking mid with the winger and striker; the three forwards with each other -- you get the idea.

Many of the other typical characteristics of a Legalite side tend to apply: scrappy, hard-working, annoying to have to get by, but not overly difficult to score on once you’ve broken down the best way through. Look for a lot of pace, and for all of the available substitutions to be used, typically in the midfield first.

Text description of the kits: The primary team kit consists of a black shirt and shorts, with red socks. The shirt contains a double sash of solid red over solid white, stretching diagonally from the left shoulder to the right hip. Over the shirt-wearer's heart (as well as on the right hemline of the shorts) is the Legalese crest. The player's number appears to the right chest area on the shirt, and on the left leg of the shorts, both in white.

The secondary team kit consists of a red shirt and black shorts, with red socks. The shorts description is identical to the primary kit description, save for the number on the shorts being gold in color. The secondary shirt contains a black sash running from the left shoulder to the right hip; the sash is not solid, appearing as if it was splashed onto the shirt. The shirt has white collars and cuffs, and contains the Legalese crest in the same position as the primary kit shirt; the number is in the same position as the primary, but colored gold.

A new third kit, designed to honor the region (while firmly asserting a national identity). It consists of a multicolored shirt, along with black shorts and red socks. The shirt is mainly purple and green, with a progressing block-like pattern. Over the pattern is a red sash, containing the splash style seen on the secondary kit. The shirt includes black cuffs, and a black/red color.

The keeper kit is a longsleeve royal blue shirt with white cuffs and collars. The shirt has gold dots across it, shrinking in size moving up from the hem to the collar. a black-and-red sash runs diagonally from the right hip to the left shoulder; the sash consists of a series of thin lines, with the upper half of the lines being red, and the latter half black. The Crest and Numbers on the shirt and shorts are the same as seen on the secondary kit.

The crest contained on the primary, secondary, and keeper kits is a nonagon outlined in gold, with a black field, red sash, and white scales. The third kit contains a simplified crest of white scales only.
Host/Co-Host of many World Cup-associated things, mostly long ago. A couple of small wins as well, which is nice.

The defending-champion Blue Foxes join once more with the nations of Anaia as a guest in the tenth edition of the CAFA Cup. Their championship win in CAFA Cup 9 was one for the ages, overcoming a scandal that resulted in a mid-tournament manager change. After an initial defeat at the start of the knockout stage, the Foxes took the longer route to victory, taking out a number of regional titans along the way, before finally exacting revenge on a Mertagne squad that had dominated them in the group stage. The Pacitalian side won the two final matches by a combined score of 8-1, emphatically claiming the trophy with an historic victory — the nation's eleventh major football championship overall.

Manager: Fico Carbone
The FGCP were once again left to hit reset, after coming out on the losing end of a heavy bidding war. The federation fell short in their attempts to lock in CAFA Cup 9-winning manager Vulav-Wanar Tla over the long term. Vulav-Wanar had taken over in the middle of the CAFA Cup 9 group stage, leading the team to a championship, but turned down a multi-million-doura contract and opted to return home to Qusmo to helm their home country's side ahead of Copa Rushmori 47 and the World Cup 98 cycle. Thrust into an exhaustive search for a permanent manager, the Foxes will welcome Carbone to the sideline — a battle-tested coach with extensive championship pedigree, having won five league titles in the Premerato with perennial Pacitalian club heavyweights 1865 Fontevella FC. The promotion reunites Carbone with his former star and now national team captain Mau, who played for Fontevella before being snatched up by a foreign club.

Overview
Luka Hazaluta is out! Despite getting Mertagne to their best ever finish in World Cup competition in the modern era, it seems the FMF has bought into the hype of being, at the time of writing, the 18th best team in the multiverse. After a difficult game in the recently born Round of 32 against Arrosian hopefuls Milchama, Mertagne were unable to convert on the momentum they'd built from topping the group stage and crashed out of the knockouts before they'd truly begun in the eyes of many. While the Green Goblins have now joined an elite cadre of teams knocked out in a World Cup Round of 32, that sadly wasn't the accolade that Luka Hazaluta or the FMF were intending to achieve. As such, after tough negotiations, Hazaluta has agreed to move on to pastures new, and the position of manager became vacant.

In stepped Claudio Vantula, who, after the Bostopian war left him deaf in one ear, has been coaching the youth wing of Keers Kannoneers. After their recent success in an unimportant youth cup, the head honchos at the FMF (including one Kristie Ettrick, who was present for the end of Vantula's international career) decided to give the 42 year old a chance in the driver's seat, to see if he can create and maintain a squad that is worthy of upholding the lofty expectations of the nation.

Vantula's first test will be a CAFA X, a tournament that's seen equal parts weal and woe for the Mertagnians. The Green Goblins did well last time around, coming just short by the end of the tournament after being undone by a Pacitalian side that had reacted incredibly well to the Mertagnian style of play across the tournament and managed to peter out the momentum the squad had built attempting to get back-to-back CAFA trophies. Vantula is looking to come off the blocks strong, and will be hoping that, as the region's best team on paper, Mertagne will have a commanding performance here in this tournament.

Breakdown
This cycle sees Saif Dedec take up the mantle for first choice goalkeeper, after Rhiannon Fawn bid the squad a fond farewell with the departure of Hazaluta. Dedec has followed well in Fawn's footsteps, however, and is an imposing presence through his booming voice down the pitch when he feels that the team need a fresh perspective. If a wildcard is needed, Mertagne has a new one in the form of Lorne Stannard, and can easily bring out a reliable choice of half-Brenecian Callaghan Bauldry against more defensive sides, as his ability to snatch the ball out of the sky during set pieces remains unrivalled.

In defence, Vantula has kept a core back four that each showcase a variety of play-styles. Karon Murell, on the left, is a solid choice for ball distribution from the back line, and is a typical first choice pass option for Conwal Ibarborde, who shines in winning the ball from the opposition. Aato Irizarri is also a good option to pass to, and is capable of ensuring the squad as a whole transitions smoothly from a defensive focus to a more attacking one. The more 'park the bus' school of players such as Dominic Moko and Michael Thurtle give the side more solid options against attaching teams, and the previous two combined with Miliav Petremol can often form a rather thick shot-stopping wall that can be really tough to get through, but often lacks forward momentum, and as such is a combination that is only really used to slow down the flow of play to a crawl.

The midfield is centred around the pairing of Jordan Will and Aislin du Moucel, who have proven to be one of the foremost driving forces of Mertagnian international football over the last few years. When in possession, it's almost guaranteed the ball will pass between one or both of these players, and many teams that have been successful against Mertagne in the past have identified this link and exploited it. Vantula has continued to field this midfield core, which aims to get the ball on either side out to Stewart Bickley or Amy Quennell, who typically hang as deep in the attacking third as they can get away with when in possession, but substitution options can provide other players such as Roland Auber and Charlotte Callan to support in making those key passes up to the attacking pair. For a more defensive pivot around the midfield, players such as Stacy Tompkins and Alasdair Larreko can provide more experience in the build up.

Attackers are the sharp end of the wedge in the Green Goblins squad, but the implication is usually that they'll receive support from the wing in the form of a good cross. Someone who can convert one of those is up and coming star Trebuchet who proved pivotal in Mertagne's last international outing and will likely start most games here. Alongside him is Burro Curwood, now captain of the squad after Rhiannon Fawn's exit. Curwood is good at taking the defensive heat off of his team mates, and can typically pick up the ball after the more risky passes have been made up the field. Other options in the attacking group include Nazer Armenadriz, who excels at getting into space and unlocking the attacking third of the field out from the opposing defenders, and Christine Newbury, if a more close-knit option is needed and the opposition is playing a more attacking formation.

The Aleirave Football Association
Baptism of Fire LXXVIII Champions
Roster for CAFA Cup X
Image

OOC: All players in blue are ethnically Klysevian, all players in red are native Aleiravan.

The island nation of Aleirave is a rather small one, with a population of barely 50 thousand, located by a sea they know as the Retakono Me'a, or the sea of mystery. The only islands that were anywhere near them seemed to sink under the sea a couple years back, leaving them as the most isolated nation in the region of Anaia.

The nation of Aleirave was originally founded by Fyodor Tereyev, who was a puteshestvennik (or "traveller") from Klysevia, about 350 years ago. His descendants ruled the island up until the year 2023, when Alexandr Tereyev was shot and killed by a lone gunman in a peaceful protest. Since then, the island has been ruled as an Special Administrative Unit of Eshialand, effectively acting as its own democratic nation within a nation.

World Cup XCVII felt like an insane dream.

Aleirave was not a nation which ever really amounted to anything before that. Since CAFA V, their performances had been a wild swingy mix between "kinda shite, but there were some good moments" to "wow you really did scrape the bottom of the barrel, huh..."

Qualifying for the World Cup, however, that was the ultimate reversal of fortunes. Not only that, but they had managed to get out of the group stage... and win a knockout match? Incredible! In fact, they had been the last team from all of Anaia standing, which surely would bode well for their performance in CAFA, right?

Well, hold your horses right there. After all, Aleirave is still a part of Eshialand, which means the cosmic rules of being Eshian all still apply here: nobody cares how well you do in the World Cup. Nobody cares if you can take on the world. When it comes to regionals, you will underperform, and you will like it.

So what sort of position does that put Haulafo Paka'ula in? Not a very good one, to be honest. Coming off the heels of being one of the best 16 teams in the multiverse, you have to expect a little more than barely scraping into a regional knockout, but that would genuinely be a positive outcome with the Seagulls' recent history in this competition. All he can really try to do is give some new players roster spots to shake things up and hope that does a good job of turning the tide.

Manager: Haulafo PAKA'ULA (M, 59)
Some fans have a lot of doubt in Haulafo Paka'ula at this point, but the team has none. He's the original architect of this team and a father to the family they've made together. He's embraced the Aleiravan spirit of quick, agile football, where positions don't really matter so much as making everybody mesh together as a single unit. While in the past he may have doubted himself to the point of resigning before 2027's World Cup Qualifying, he's back in business and ready to prove to the world that this island really can be among the best.

the coaches will attempt to reintroduce subbed-off players back into the match and use (much) more than three substitutions. if the fourth referee actually enforces the laws of the game, however, the team will likely simply have its players change “positions” throughout the match — though aside from goalkeeper, this won’t really have much impact on what actually happens on the pitch.

  • None of the players know what the offside rule is. Accordingly, at least one will usually stand next to or behind the opposing goalkeeper to receive the ball, whether their team is actually in possession or not. Referees may or may not permit this, since they’re adorable.
  • Players in space (or not in a cluster) will often find themselves alone because the rest of their teammates ran towards the ball more quickly, because they either are not quite as fast, are a little tired, or don’t really want to run right now. And honestly, fair enough.
  • Both when in and out of possession, most players will cluster towards the ball. Because they’re preschoolers. And that’s what they do. They want to play with the ball. They yearn to hypergegenpress. That’s fun. Are you going to tell them they’re wrong?
  • Some players may get bored and not want to play anymore, due to distraction or tiredness. They will eventually be substituted out when this occurs, but they may play in the grass or something for a while in the meantime. And why not? What’s so wrong with that?
  • Players may play at most one quarter of any match in goal, to allow all players the chance to play in more active, involved positions. This rule promotes fitness and fun for everyone on the team. It also means this team plays totaalvoetbal.

Very Sexy Kirola Kits (Home, Away, Goalkeeper)
(ta muchly, Audio)

Three straight World Cup qualifications and a first ever knockout stage appearance by the Vdarans had been met with praise and applause from the dedicated home fans. And yet, one thing still eluded them… a good CAFA appearance. With the team now ranked (once again) at its highest ranking ever, there was hope that this would help to spur the team on towards greater things in the greatest regional tournament to grace the multiverse (because we’re in it!). Rumour has it, though, that their noisy, socialist, not-so-close neighbours will also be vying to make waves in the CAFA Cup…

Bio
Where is Vdara? What is Vdara? Who are Vdara? Is it a state? It’s a state of mind, that’s for sure. Established during the times of Ancient Greek colonisation, the first Vdaran settlement was in the modern day capital city of Chania, where a valiant crew had stumbled upon after setting off from Athens, and decided to settle down. This settlement evolved into a city, and this city decided to set up its own settlements, spreading Vdaran culture and ideals across many of the Mediterranean islands, creating their own archipelago. The Vdaran archipelago would go on to change hands several times over the next few millennia, being held by the Turks, Venetians, and Greeks - to name just a few. Fast forward to the present, and now you have a gyro-eating, sports-loving nation with a people who are dedicated to following Vdaran football loudly and proudly. They’ve seen the highs, and they’ve seen the lows, and they’ll now see the present. Fiercely committed to defending their honour, every single Vdaran - from the players, to the coaches, to the ordinary man or woman chilling on their couch, shouting at their television - will be readily available to convince people that, no, Vdara are not has-beans. They’re the real deal.

’Comrades, I found myself disappointed by our lack of results in the Cup of Harmony. As the more aptly-named tournament for socialists like us, I am surprised we were not able to defeat far inferior capitalist nations. But, fear not, I do not plan on executing any of you any time soon. The executioner is on holiday in Mertagne, anyway…' -- Supreme Leader of West Vdara and the KKV, to the squad

State-Approved Biography

The People’s Democratic Republic of Vdaran Western Territories
, more commonly known as West Vdara, is a small group of islands located off the west coast of Africa. Having separated from the Republic of Vdara during a period of political turmoil for the ruling communist party (KKV), many of the nation’s important left-leaning figureheads fled to the newly-established nation to ensure the continuation of an ideal socialist paradise as Crete and Cyprus began to seek more moderate politics. Since then, West Vdara has enjoyed a period of relative peace and isolation, with neither the Republic nor the West seeking any form of immediate unification - in fact, quite the opposite, despite some attempts to mend and strengthen the ties between the two. The KKV have easily sustained political dominance in the country, having won every election since 1995, leading many to label West Vdara as a dictatorial, one-party state. Despite this, the KKV maintains that all elections are free and fair, decrying all doubters as ‘agents of Chania’ and preventing independent observers from keeping an eye on things.

State-Approved Geographic Info

There are seven islands that make up West Vdara:-

- Nifaria: With a population of just under a million, Nifaria is West Vdara's largest and most important island, with all government business going through the capital city of Agios Stavros. Mountainous and agricultural, Nifaria serves as the nation's main source of sustenance, with bananas and fish serving as crucial parts of the West Vdaran palate. Most footballers from the squad hail from this island.

- Kanaria: Slightly smaller in both population and landmass, Kanaria could just as easily be called "Nifaria's wee brother". The island nonetheless serves as West Vdara's industrial hub, with factories and ports across the island allowing it to be the nation's transport and export hub.

- Ploufialia: Small and agricultural, Ploufialia is mainly known for its vineyards more than anything else. This does, however, mean that West Vdaran wine is quite divine.

- Ombrion: A rather unassuming island, Ombrion is primarily known for its avocados and cattle - as well as its volcanic activity, making the soil extremely fertile and thus very suitable for agricultural usage.

- Tzounonia: Miniscule and boring. Let's move on [NOTHING SECRET IS OCCURRING ON THIS ISLAND].

- Planasia: One of the larger islands by landmass (but not by population), Planasia's size and lack of population allows for it to be used as West Vdara's dairy and cereals capital, with nationalised cheeses and grains making their way to the rest of the islands from the various farms and mills.

- Kapraria: Tiny and forested, not much goes on here either, so long as you don't look in the- [NOTHING SECRET IS OCCURRING ON THIS ISLAND]

State-Approved Stadium

All home matches will be played at West Vdara’s state of the art Grand Amphitheater of the Proletariat, or the GAP for short. Some scumbag capitalists may refer to it as outdated and crumbling, but they are mere pigdogs who hate to see such great collectivised success. It holds as many people as required, and away fans must go through a simple process involving the submission of thirty-two different documents, a pledge not to commit espionage, and the surrender of all foreign currency. (OOC: this means we’re not letting your fans in. okay, maybe two.)

State-Appointed and Approved Staff

The government of the Vdaran Western Territories has made sure to appoint the best person from the job: Ivanis Grigorelis. Born on Tzounonia in 1972, Ivanis' humble upbringing and his parents' connections to the state allowed him to seamlessly rise through the ranks. Additionally, having been a long-time neighbour of the Minister for Sport, Culture, and Nationhood, it was inevitable that he would be given some form of government position - so why not management, one of the highest honours of them all? Furthermore, Mr. Grigorelis will be assisted by several men in immaculate suits and sunglasses, who we can call [REDACTED], but who you can call 'tactical analysts'. You will find yourself getting rather familiar with these ‘technical analysts’, and we are compelled to inform you about their expertise in classical martial arts.
