All groups are single round robin. All games shall be played in the host nation of BET Njaza- except for a couple of select games happening in the mother country (of Banija proper). Per the host bid, with 14 teams, there will be two groups of 7, and they will be single round robin. The top 4 teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

Information for the Banijan Esportivan Territories of Njaza

Where does the word Njaza comes from?

Njaza isn't actually anything on its own. The word Njaza is an acronym. It stands for the four major native population groups of Njaza- Nakaseke, Jayunga, Anvik, Zelgian, and Anonymous- the latter referring to the Uncontacted peoples of the Busiiro Rainforest(more on that later). It was the word used to represent the various areas of Njaza when the four major native population groups formed this as some sort of united entity (barely, at that), and claimed huge swaths of land to the west with it.

What's the History of this place? How did it become a unified entity?

Interestingly enough, there has, for a long time, been a lot of informal cooperation between the various groups here. But they have largely been autonomous groups. Not a ton of cooperation between the groups, and once they realized there was land overseas for international trade, they were able to largely divide up access between them in what is now District 1 to use jointly as ports. People generally didn't live in that part of the country, and the loose alliance (not even strong enough to be a confederation) had served the people well for hundreds of years.

Around 200 or so years ago, however, Banijan settlers started arriving in this land. They came for various reasons, of course- but mostly, religious settlers who believed that Banija would lose its Mormon character upon the 2nd Quebecois colonization of the country. Of course, those fears ended up being entirely unfounded, but once you've moved all the way to Esportiva, hard to move back, eh? While many settlers have lived in the country for nearly 200 years, they remained fiercely loyal to Banija. They didn't really establish an independent nation- when Banija got their independence from Quebec, they renamed their land 'Mugishaland', after the first Kabaka.

It was at that point where they declared that the Kabaka would be the King of this land as well, in a personal union with the homeland. They cooperated with the various native populations, although Mugishaland quickly passed laws that banned natives from moving to Mugishaland. The other districts did not have such governing structures, but Mugishaland quickly joined the Njaza alliance, as the natives, despite that discrimination, saw welcoming them in as a way to prevent eventual Banijan domination of the place. With big countries all around them, including empires, it made sense for them to work together.

That left, of course, the huge rainforest to the far east. Mostly empty land in what is now District 6 separated the populated districts from this rainforest- but that had traditionally been taken as allied land. The rainforest is massive, with that having around the same geographic area as the other six districts combined. The rainforest wasn't really explored, so not much is known about it. There are an estimated four various tribes there- simply labeled Tribes A, B, C, and D, by outsiders. The Njaza alliance worked together to ensure that the 'tribes in the rainforest have the right to remain uncontacted', and thereafter claimed the rainforest as territory, and then immediately banned access to it.

The ban is full and total. They do not run rescue missions into the rainforest. If you wander into the rainforest and get lost, you are your own. You get attacked by an animal there, you will probably pass away. And this will be maintained. This is called "The Rainforest Consensus"- a full and complete on any outsiders entering the Rainforest, and prosecution to the harshest extent of the law for those who do.

The discovery of gas & oil in district 6, however, has changed the game considerably. The uncontacted laws still remain- but, with recent elections results giving way to a majority ethnically Banijan populated government for the first time, following the territory's annexation into the Kingdom, there is a strong belief that there are more deposits underneath the rainforest. It remains to be seen whether or not those will be explored- although environmental activists on the territory, and within Banija at-large, and Esportiva in general, are 'alarmed' at the possibilities of what is generally dubbed as "The Rainforest Consensus" coming to an end.

A lot of Banija's religious laws do not apply to the Banijan Esportivan Territories. This means, of course, there is no mandatory tithing within the Territories, nor is there a ban on things like abortion, artificial birth control, and coffee, that are so famously banned on the mainland. Recent election results suggest that this might come to an end, but for now- those stand in these Territories.

List of the Territorial Districts

Njaza Governor-General: Omugabe Lallo. Former two-time Olympic gold medalist in 3x3 men's basketball, and the grandson of the Kabaka.
First Minister: Jebel Darboe

District 1- Mugishaland(Banijans)

Name: Mugishaland
Population: 1.22 million
Demographics: Banijans(92%), Nakaseke(5%), Other Native(1%), Other(2%)
Leader Title: District Executive
Leader Name: Yorro Darboe. Younger brother of Jebel Darboe. While in power in his own right, in practice, he just takes orders from his older brother and his political party's leader, Jebel Darboe- he has no political power base of his own.

The highly population District 1 is where basically the vast majority of the Banijans live. Named after Mugisha the Liberator(the first Kabaka of an independent Banija). it is easily the Territory's wealthiest and most advanced district. It is the location of the Territory's capitol city, Zansasi, which is by far the largest city in the Territory, with a population of just over 400,000.

District 2- Nakaseke

Name: Nakaseke
Population: 544,000
Demographics: Nakaseke(78%), Banijans(15%), Other Native(6.5%), Other(0.5%)
Religion: Indigenous polytheistic(75%), Mormon(20%), Other(5%)
Leader Title: Paramount Chief
Leader Name: Udo Obike

The Nakaseke are a Bantu ethnic group, native to this land. They are the biggest group, primarily affected by being the only one that is also on the coast. Locally, they are governed by a Paramount Chief, and a Council of Elders- with one elder from each of the group's 12 biggest clans.

District 3- Jayunga

Name: Jayunga
Population: 215,000
Demographics: Jayunga(99%), Other(1%)
Religion: Indigenous polytheistic(50%), Athiest(45%), Other(5%)

Leader Name: N/A

The Jayunga, historically, are a breakaway group from the Nakaseke, as a result of a succession dispute. They are two clans who broke away after a succesion dispute, and have largely maintained their independence. They are very village based- while they have a council of elders, almost nothing is taken care of on a large-scale basis, almost everything being solved and governed at the village level.

District 4- Anvik

Name: Anvik
Population: 476,000
Demographics: Anvik(97%), Banijans(1%), Other(2%)
Religion: Indigenous polytheistic(55%), Indigenous Monotheistic(40%), Mormon(3%), Other(2%)
Leader Title: Paramount Chief
Leader Name: Lootah Istaqa

The Anvik are yet another different ethnic group. They constitute their own ethnic group(OOC: RL equivalent of Native Americans). They form part of the core of this racially and ethnically diverse territory of Banija, and they are the only group to have native governance determined by some sort of democracy- they've voted for leaders for hundreds of years. They have a local 33 person council, the equivalent of a regional Parliament. The Council is led by the Paramount Chief.

District 5- Zelland

Name: Zelland
Population: 292,000
Demographics: Zelgian(88%), Banijans(10%), Other(2%)
Religion: Mormon(50%), Indigenous Monotheistic(20%), Mainline Protestant Christian(25%), Other(5%)
Leader Title: High King
Leader Name: Mac Eber

Zelland is another local group, the country's only white dominated ethnic group. It is a region dominated particularly by people with red hair. Despite that, there is still a decent population of Banijans living in the area, due to the oil fields found in District 6. It is the only part of the country where Mormon missionaries have seemed to really make a difference, and other Christian missionaries have reached as well. That said, the local governance system is a series of hereditary Princes, who generally come together and elect a High King for Zelland. There are currently 344 hereditary princes, to show how small this land is.

District 6- Wura Region(Oil & Gas)

Name: Wura Region
Population: 13,500
Demographics: Banijans(92%), Other(8%)
Religion: Mormon(90%), Other(10%)
District Administrator: The Governor-General directly administrates this region.

There is no political leadership from this region, as under the territorial act, it will have no local government- it is governed directly by the Kingdom of Banija. This region is basically where Njaza's massive oil & gas reserves are all located(more on that, later).

District 7- The Busiiro Rainforest

Name: Busiiro Rainforest
Population: Unknown
Demographics: Unknown
Religion: N/A
Territorial Administrator: The Governor-General directly administrates this region.

The Busiiro Rainforest, of course, it is banned to enter. Per prior agreement, Banijan administration of these territories will include that- entry to the rainforest is banned. Ergo, it is under the 'technical' governance of District 6, but in reality, the only Banijan authority in this region is to ban entry. There are at least four observed tribes- labeled Tribes A, B, C, and D, but absolutely nothing is known about them. The ban is strict- which has consequences, since some believe that there are potential further oil and gas deposits underneath this rainforest.

The ban prevents further study of the rainforest, its wildlife, and of the people there by any groups, government or academic related. So while not a lot is known about the Busiiro's wildlife, the only thing that is really known is that this is certainly one of the largest rainforests in Esportiva.

Banija will have a rabid home field advantage in Districts 1 and 2, as they go further in-land, the home field advantage will shrink- and frankly will probably be quite unpopular among those who belief Njaza shouldn't be a part of Banija in the first place.

Kingdom Field is a multi-purpose stadium in use for this event. With a maximum capacity of 29,000, it is the largest stadium in the Banijan Esportivan Territories. It is located in the capitol of Zansasi.

PetroBan Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in use for the WLCs. With a maxium capacity of 22,000, it has been built for the express purpose of hosting this tournament. It is located in the capitol of Zansasi.

Otongo Field is a multi-purpose stadium in use for this tournament. It is named after Kayonga Otongo, an old, right-wing, longtime Katikkiro of Banija. It has a capacity of 18,900. It is located in the city of Kaledi, a smaller city on the coast in District 1/Mugishaland, on the Territory's border with Boring Paradise.

Nyibombo Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in use for this tournament. It is located in District 2, right on the coastline- the only city in District 2 with a majority Banijan population. It is named after the city it is in- Nyibombo. It has a stadium capacity of 17,600.

Angokulo Park is a multi-purpose stadium in use for this tournament, located right on the border of District 3 and District 4, even though it is on the District 3 side. It has the smallest stadium in use during the tournament, with a seating capacity of just 9,345. Angokulo is named after the traditional Moon God of the Jayunga, the dominant ethnic group of District 3- much to the dismay of many Banijans.

The Federation of Panay Islands and Guimaras, also called Panay Islands and Guimaras, or Panay-Guimaras is a nation in Asia. Located in the Philippine archipelago, Panay Islands and Guimaras has been a touristic hotbed because of its beaches and nature conserving tourist attractions which the government funded. The Panay Islands and Guimaras dominion is consisted of 5 autonomous provinces and 1 federal canton.

Field and Indoor lacrosse has been a Guimaraseño thing and now it gained popularity in other autonomous provinces, even though not as popular as other sports just like rugby. Lacrosse was brought into the islands by a French Canadian Métis native Guillaume Perrault in 1903 to Panayenses in Iloílo City, but when he bring lacrosse to Guimaras, the people loved it and its the Guimaraseños' turn to spread the game like Perrault did when he came to the Islands, until today.

There's a competition called the SkyFlakes Guillaume Perrault Cup (es. SkyFlakes Copa Guillaume Perrault) which 5 autonomous provinces, including the Federal Canton, Royal Armed Forces, and the Royal Transportation Company go head-to-head against each other, where Guimaras won most of the titles ahead of the Antique province, which they also love lacrosse thanks to Perrault's bestfriend, André Lavigne, also a French Canadian Métis native in 1905.

Official Banijan National Lacrosse Team roster for the 44th World Lacrosse Championships

Head Coach: Owole Kalali. 65 years old. Former head coach of the Herzegovina City Kings. Coached the men's team to a demonstration championship at the XVI Summer Olympiad. WLC 41 was his first WLC in charge- and he coached the team to their first ever world title, something Banijan lacrosse fans have been dying for. While the last WLCs were a failure, aka Banija's first time failing to podium at this tournament since WLC 35, his superiors considered it particularly unlucky- drawing, and losing to, the eventual champions in the QFs, when the team had gone unbeaten in group play. Ergo, Banija's most decorated lacrosse coach is back for WLC 44, on home soil(sort of), as the Banijans once again strive for glory.

After the failures of the 28th and 29th World Lacrosse Championships, and especially the 29th edition where Banija got eliminated in the group stages of the WLCs for the first time ever(on home soil no less!), everything was torn down. The Olympic Committee of Banija seized control, and voted the sport's independent governing body(a rarity in Banija) out of existence. Various reforms were introduced. Chief among them- rid themselves of those who failed. The entire coaching staff was purged, and with it, not a single player who was on the WLC 28 or 29 roster was invited back to form the WLC 30 roster. Those high up in Banija called the WLC 29 group stage elimination, on home soil, of a nation that considered themselves an international lacrosse powerhouse an 'absolute embarassment to the country' and vowed for deep reforms to ensure that this did not ever happen again.

This, of course, happened before the 30th WLCs, in Cassadaigua. The Banijans were able to escape the group stage, once again, but fell to an ancient power in this sport- Sarzonia, by a score of 10-9, in the Round of 16. It was followed by a disappointing entry at the Champions Challengers Cup, where they fell to both Baker Park and Sarzonia in West Guiana, to finish 0-2. In the 31st WLCs, the Banijans finally overcame recent struggles by geting back to where they felt they belonged, the semifinals, though they fell at that stage in Baker Park. While they regressed at WLC 32, only going .500 in the group stage and getting knocked out in the Round of 16 by the tournament's top seed, they've restructured the squad. While they kept the defense and goalies, they made big changes up top, replacing all 7 midfielders on the roster, as well as changing out a number of attacking players. The WLC 33 cycle began strongly, with the team winning the Moravica Lacrosse Invitational en route to going 6-0 in group play. However, they were downed by Sarzonia in the quarterfinals, once again giving the Banijans an early exit from lacrosse's premier tournament.

WLC 34 was the most success this team has had in quite a while. While the team only got 2nd place in their group, their 4-2 finish put them into the knockout stages. They hit their stride in the knockout stages, beating a trio of lacrosse giants- West Phoenicia, then Sarzonia, and then the Commonwealth of Baker Park, en route to their first final since WLC 21. While they were favored in the Final, HUElavia was one better, downing the Banijans by a score of 14-9, as they came out of nowhere, in their first ever WLCs, and found themselves crowned champions of the world. After a quarterfinal elimination WLC 35, Banija was back at it in WLC 36, going undefeated in the group stages, including an upset victory over longtime rival Abanhfleft, who have delivered Banija so much pain in this sport while we have failed to return the favor.

They reached the semifinals, before playing their dreaded Fleftic opponents. There was a sense of optimism in the camp brought to them by their AO championship that preceded this tournament. But an Abanhfleft team that looked down and out brought the high-flying Banijans down to Earth, reminding us exactly who was the boss in this sport as they eliminated us once again in the late stages of this tournament, en route to their record sixth title. To follow it up with more pain, we played our other chief rival in this sport, Sarzonia, in the WLC 37 Semifinal. Once again, a high-flying Banijan team was brought down to Earth by an archrival, and Banija simply watched from the sidelines as our fierce regional rivals won their sixth ever WLC title, while Banija went on to pick up our record fifth third place finish at this tournament.

The Banijans, particularly in recent years, have been on the brink of glory in this tournament. They have been to the WLC Semifinals for four consecutive tournaments- and despite finishing on the medal podium all four times, they had yet to lift the big one. After that semifinal loss at WLC 37, the Banijans went to WLC 38 with a mission- we will not fall until we reach the sport's highest pinnacle- the WLC Final. And in three successive tournaments, we reached the Final. And in all three tournaments, we faced Sarzonia in the Final. That era of pain relegated us to simply the largest footnote in the story of Sarzonia- a record dominant run by them, 4 straight world titles in this sport. For those last three titles, we lost to them in the Final of each of those tournaments- smoked in WLC 38, lost by only 3 goals in WLC 39, and in WLC 40, on home soil no less, we were dominated once again as the Stars made the case they were the greatest team not only in the world at the time- but the greatest team to ever play the sport.

Gut wrenching pain. Many thought that WLC 40 Final would destroy the soul of Banijan lacrosse. So much hope, and all of that- crushed. So close to the mountaintop- but the final challenge of it seemed simply unassailable. Playing it in front of our own fans seemed to make no difference either. The head coach, Allen Budaye, the coach in all of those WLC Finals, who had reached age 70, called it quits. "I couldn't take those WLC Final losses anymore." He told reporters in his retirement press conference. "Too painful- too brutal." With the XVI Summer Olympiad coming up, however, time stops for no man. There was hope that the Banijans would be able to claim glory at that tournament. And they were.

A big fat asterisk, of course, because the sport was a demonstration event. But still- the Olympics aren't known for their consistency, and yet, here they were. Both Banija's men's and women's teams went to the Olympics, and dominated. Neither lost a game as they both had undefeated runs, celebrating with each other as they each took home victories at the demonstration events. While they weren't Olympic gold medalists- still, both the men and women held world championships, of a sort. They could call themselves something that very few could do- Olympic champions. Might be forever, as well- lacrosse hasn't been played at the Olympiad since.

The NT hired the men's Olympic coach for its unified team, hoping for greater results at WLC 41. And it turned out, yes- the Olympic titles were indeed a foreshadowing of Banija's greatest moment in this sport. WLC 41 saw Banija face down both of their archnemisi in this sport- the Sarzonians(modern), and Abanhfleft(historic). The Banijans shocked many by overcoming both. Sarzonia had eliminated Banija in the late stages from the prior four WLCs, including three finals in a row. The Banijans triumphed in the WLC 41 Quarterfinals, beating them in overtime to end their championship streak at 4. Then, a massive contest against Abanhfleft- where we scored one of our greatest wins in history, to knock them out of a tournament.

First time defeating Sarzonia and Abanhfleft in the same tournament. One last hurdle remained- an undefeated, and top seeded, Delaclava, in the WLC Final. But were simply going to be denied no longer, as we finally excised our demons and won our first ever WLC title. The hunt was over. We are still reigning double Olympic champions- and after WLC 41, we also held the proper title of world champions of lacrosse.

That is now becoming a happy memory, however. A semifinal loss at WLC 42, followed by a QF loss at WLC 43, mean that hunger rumbles in the stomachs of Banijan lacrosse players once more. The tournament, nearly gone after a hiatus, is back after waiting nearly 6 years. The excitement is real- can they make a push here for world title #2?

Brantley opted to hire a defensive coordinator and allow him to run the defence. She reasoned that she had enough responsibility as manager.
Offensive Coordinator: Tyler Pawlenty (51 years old)
Pawlenty helped mold offenses in college, in particular Rypien State College during a four-year period when that school won three collegiate national titles. His teams emphasise possession and patience, often including multiple passes before taking the perfect shot.
Assistant Coach: George Tomlin (35 years old)
Tomlin recently retired as a faceoff specialist after a collegiate career that saw him win 78 percent of his faceoffs. During his professional career in Sarzonia, he won 69 percent of his faceoffs. He can coach multiple styles of faceoffs, taking into account multiple fogos.

Captina Island's National Lacrosse Team will make their third appearance in the World Lacrosse Championship after hosting the last edition which saw them move into the top 12 in the rankings. Tyrus Goodwin takes over as Head Coach and welcomes eight new members of the squad that fell in the Round of 16 to eventual tournament winners Cassadaigua.

National Team Nickname: Captina Island's national animal is the peacock, although it has never been used as a sporting appellation except for the Women's football NT's use of "Peahens"; the men's football team are generally known as the "Oro e Rossi" (Gold & Red) but a survey of citizens have convinced The Captina Company Sports Division to market the WLC side as the Peacocks.

Previously controlled by the Universities Athletics Coalition, the sport is now governed by the Baker Park Lacrosse Association (BPLA). Dawn Thornton, the BPLA Chairwoman is currently serving her second term as President of the World Lacrosse Council.
Baker Park first entered a team in the 29th World Lacrosse Championship, co-hosted in Razenthuria & Banija; the all-female squad made up of college-aged players advanced from pool play to the knockout round.
The nation has hosted the 31st, 37th, and 42nd editions of the WLC, as well as the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Lacrosse Classic, prior to WLC 34.
While the sport in BP was traditionally a female pursuit, males participated in intramural or recreational level competition; with the expansion of game into official intercollegiate recognition, the National Team have adopted an all gender policy which has seen expansion of the player pool.

Nickname--a recent revival has brought the identification of many of the nation's sporting teams as "Elks" back into modern usage; the Elk (Wapiti) is the national animal of the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth of Baker Park National Lacrosse Team fell short of a repeat title in Rushmore, falling to eventual champs Cassadaigua in the semi-final before edging Sarzonia for 3rd Place yet enter the 44th WLC ranked as the Number 1 nation in the sport.

There's been a turnover in the player pool for the trip to Esportiva as Head Coach Eric Pearson welcomes nine new squad members along with two changes to the coaching staff in University of Coolville coach Chiara Petruccelli and University of Ezriquay coach Kurt Watson. Petruccelli played on the first BP National Team in WLC 29 with current NT Assistant Coach (& Belle Haven State University boss) Megan Ostrander and is the daughter of former longtime NT assistant and WLC 33 boss Rob Petruccelli, who led University of Belle Haven to 3 national titles.

Lax is Back as the 44th World Lacrosse Championships reach the Banijan Esportivan Territories

ZANSASI, BET NJAZA- After a hiatus, the World Lacrosse Championships are back in full swing- and Banija (sort of) is the host nation. "We are glad that we can do our part here to bring the WLCs back to the forefront." Said the Executive Vice President of the Lacrosse Division of the OCB. "When the opporutnity was there, we know that Banija is a leading lacrosse nation- the opportunity to host the tournament, for the fourth time, and solo host it for the third time, was simply too much to pass up. We expect a fantastic touranment here in the Banijan Esportivan Territories, and we hope our team can compete."

The tournament is being held entirely in the Banijan Esportivan Territories- after an agreement was reached by the Olympic Committee, and the Territorial Government, ahead of the start of the bid process. Jebel Darboe, the Territorial First Minister, said that the tournament was crucial at ensuring that the land becomes more Banijan. "It has not been so long since the Territories of Njaza became officially part of Banija, and it is on all of us to integrate it. We bring the tournament here to these districts, not because we see ourselves as distinct from Banija- we see ourselves as a core and integral part of Banija. Bring the NTs here, allow our fans to back them, and showcase on an international stage the Banijan-ness of this land."

The team itself, has high hopes for this competition. A lot of new faces on the team- but yet, a lot of familiar faces as well. For all of our historic success in this competiion, it took us forever to win it, 20 separate editions before we finally climbed the mountain. The ambitions to win it for a second time are high. "International lacrossee has more talent than ever." Said the team's head coach. "Baker Park is the world #1, and obviously, they are the favorites- but Sarzonia and Abanhfleft have almost 20 titles between them? The top of this sport is ridiculous. After it seemed as if Abanhfleft and Sarzonia were just passing it back and forth between them for a while, we had first time winners the last three cycles- ourselves, then Baker Park, and then finally Cassadaigua. This sport is as even as it has ever been, and the question is- why not us?"

Why not us, indeed. And as we prep for our opening game after a second place finish in the Hui Kai, the hopes are high- can they be achieved here? Only time will tell.

[OOC: I'd like to start with a note here that I will be doing this RP chiefly from an OOC perspective and will briefly mention the RL nations that have become part of Sarzonia's lexicon. After that, however, it's going to get strictly OOC countries.]

The Incorporated States of Sarzonia has been a nation for 20 years now, and in this fun timescape we call fluid time, has seen significantly more history than a lot of countries do in their first 20 years of existence.

In thinking back to the history of Sarzonia, we wanted to take a look at the nations who have influenced the development of the country in its first 20 years.

Starting with how it began, the Incorporated States of Sarzonia were founded by a group of dissidents who left the United States upon the "election" of George W. Bush as president of that country. These dissidents found a space to call their own and ultimately gained independence on 22 March 2004. In those early days, the country was heavily influenced by its American past down to spellings and legal origins. That is, until the country began developing a friendship with the United Kingdom of Isselmere-Nieland and Praetonia, both nations who employed a rather ... different brand of English. That influence, plus the maritime interests of both nations led to Sarzonia carving its own naval history. It led to the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy becoming one of the most respected and feared military forces in the multiverse.

As the nation found its footing, it gained influence from other established nations as it developed special relationships with both Pacitalia and Delaclava. Sarzonia even adopted the pewter medal in domestic sporting competitions and international tournaments it hosts as a prize for finishing fourth. The term "pewter medalist" also entered the Sarzonian lexicon as a synonym for "fourth rate."

With the prevalence of Latin as a frequent language employed by both Praetonia and Delaclava, Latin takes a spot as one of three foreign languages that appear among those Sarzonian students are required to learn in addition to English.

As for the main subject of our time here, Sarzonia had a bye on Matchday One on the first day of the World Lacrosse Championships as manager Makeeyah Brantley seeks to bring a historic 10th World Lacrosse Championship back to the Dave Wilson Athletic Complex. She brings back the same players and managerial staff, but the team are looking to play with a greater urgency after a bronze medal finish in the inaugural Hui Kai tournament of the four main lacrosse-playing nations in Arrosia.

"We were embarrassed out there," she said in her opening press conference of the WLC. "We got a right through smacking against two of the three highest ranked teams in this sport. We've got to play vastly better in this World Lacrosse Championships."

Brantley shrugged in response to a question if she felt she was facing pressure to hoist a trophy after the Stars hadn't won a title since they won their fourth consecutive WLC.

"We always face pressure to win," she said. "It doesn't matter how long it's been since we competed in one of these. When you're used to bringing home championships, anything that falls short is a failure. That's how we look at it."

WLC starts with loss for Peacocks

The Captina Company National Lacrosse Team got off to an inauspicious start at the 44th World Lacrosse Championships, falling 12-10 on matchday 1 to the newcomers from New Umoja.

Lemuel Henderson had a hat trick, Tino Calabrese added a pair of goals and single tallies from Josiah Rossingdale, Davide Martino, Broderick Fiore, Delroy Whitechapel and Maurizio Adduzzio rounded out the scoring, which was not enough to get past the Sonnelians.

The Peacocks will face Quebec & Shingoryeo on matchday 2, playing once again at O'Hara House in Dansville before moving on to face two of the top nations in the sport back to back; Sarzonia will be the opposition on matchday 3 while Banija is slated on matchday 4 ahead of Captina's matchday 5 open date.
Head Coach Tyrus Goodwin wants to see more consistency but fewer fouls committed as Captina was whistled for 13 infractions and defended against four short handed situations, allowing two goals.

“We're going to lose to most teams in this tournament if we play as undisciplined as we did (against New Umoja), which was really just lack of concentration from the players. In the last tournament we had the crowd that kept us focused but here we don't have that luxury.”

The history of Captina Island's animal population is similar to many isolated islands where the ecosystem was fragile due to the limited numbers of species and how they adapted to survival in spite of natural predators and human interaction.

There were few large animals native to the island prior to the arrival of Italini settlers as wild boar and goats were the largest vertebrates that existed prior to the importation of cattle, horses and chickens; smaller species included katiu'anui, a squirrel-like creature that looks like a rabbit without the long ears; huaitau'i, slightly larger than a sloth; ui'hai'taui, similar to a raccoon; and wa'hauia'ti, a bobcat.

As most Captini lived near the coast, fish and other sea creatures were more prominent in the diet rather than inland animals; the wild boar was the main prey of hunters on the island and after the introduction of domesticated pigs there needed to be a culling of the numbers on a regular basis.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

Abanhfleft has been taking part in the World Lacrosse Championships so many times that people have actually lost count as to how many times it actually has been, but what is important to note is that Abanhfleft has been crowned champions of world lacrosse six times in their history. For reasons that can be simply summed up as "it's the best thing we've done in a while," the Democratic Republic sent forth their women's national lacrosse team for their first seven appearances in the competition. The women's team, led by the "Fearsome Threesome" of Menan Alrisheb, Fatima Alsambis, and Cecilia Cuvimi, managed to win third place in their first ever tournament WLC XIX, beating the Serbian Empire to nab the bronze from under the veteran nation's noses. They went on to win back-to-back titles in WLC 22 and WLC 23 before a miserable performance in WLC 24 saw them eliminated in the group stage, but they have come back to win it all once again in WLC 25 to set history as the first nation to win three titles in four attempts. It was then decided that it was time to switch things up, and so for the first time in WLC history, Abanhfleft sent forth a mixed team of men and women to play international lacrosse in WLC 30. And they came close, but were still unable to snag the ultimate prize, losing to the eventual winners Wrexwic in the final. Eventually, finally, Abanhfleft did pick up another title on home soil in WLC 32; unfortunately they were unable to defend it in WLC 33, and were only able to collect the bronze in Jeckland. Victory was achieved yet again in WLC 35, and the objective of becoming a six-time lacrosse champion was achieved immediately afterwards, in WLC 36. Abanhfleft couldn't stop Sarzonia from picking up title number six in Baker Park, and then the repercussions of the Ripperidone scandal affected the team during WLC 38, forcing them out at an earlier time than usual. The team came close to bowing out of the group stage in Cassadaigua, but a late surge saw the Amazons sneak into the playoffs, only for Banija to finally get one over their eternal lacrosse rivals in the semifinals. However, it wasn't actually Banija that the Amazons should have been afraid of but Sarzonia, who went on a streak of four straight titles before finally slowing down. And while Abanhfleft has come close numerous times, once again they've been beaten back from picking up lucky title number seven. Perhaps this is the moment when everything changes.

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacrosse was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current franchise format in 2001, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse League of Abanhfleft) separating itself from the pyramid and becoming an independent organization of its own right. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Samahang Lakros ng Abanhfleft or SLA) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually, the SLA established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

They have won six World Lacrosse Championships, winning in WLC 22, 23, 25, 32, 35 and 36. Starting in WLC 26, the team entered a rebuilding stage in which it maintained its ranking in the multiverse as much as possible without really challenging for the title. But in WLC 30, the SLA declared the rebuilding done, and the national team backed up this announcement with a deep playoff run that went all the way to the final, where they were unfortunately stopped by Wrexwic. Abanhfleft fell in the Round of 12 against hosts Baker Park in WLC 31, but the Amazons would come out on top of the lacrosse world once again after winning the championship on their home soil in WLC 32. Fortunes have been up and down in more recent times though; while the team crashed out of the quarterfinals in WLC 33, they were able to collect a third place finish in WLC 34. The team plowed through the tough schedule created by the Casaran format in WLC 35, proving the adage that "you can only beat the teams in front of you" true. One of those teams would be Vangaziland, a fellow serial winner in the competition, and in a final sure to go down as a classic, Abanhfleft emerged as 9-6 winners to lift their record-equaling fifth title. In WLC 36, the objective was to break the record and snatch it from Sarzonia, who were also planning to do the same. The Amazons defeated the Stars in the quarterfinals of WLC 36, and the team beat such giants as Banija and Cassadaigua to lift the World Lacrosse Championship for the sixth time. Now, the mission is simple: seven in 37.

Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.

A SMASHING DEBUT FOR THE FIREHAWKS

The Guimaraseño community in Banija came to support the national team with trumpets, drums, and tifos dedicating for the national team. As Reyes's men had their own good start, Rodel Tecsón, a Capizeño, scored the first goal for the national team. He's one of the rising Panayense lacrosse stars to featured in this game. With some help of Amancio Chua and Dudu Quiambao, Tecsón scored than 7 goals for the team. The Crpostranis tried to take ahead for it by scoring half of 7 in 2 periods, but Salazar and the gang had other plans. Replacing Tecsón, the star player is Guimaras' own Feliciano Namgung, where he scored a hattrick on the Crpostrani defense. Of course there were goals by Choo, Quiambao, Magbanua, and the captain himself, Salazar. "This is our first time we have a victory in this tournament.", says Honorato. "We hope our game against HUElavia will do the same as we did against Crpostran." The Firehawks are facing HUElavia in the same stadium they played today.

HUElavia is a nation that may not have it's own full identity. The closest to it's own identity are the customs on the native Hueti who inhabited mainly the north, but had its places in the south. Besides that, HUElavia has been a nation influenced by different people and cultures. First and foremost, HUElavia was essentially jointly colonized by the countries of Portuzia to the west and Aestellia to the east. Coming with them were their respective languages of Portuguese and Spanish, two of the three official languages of HUElavia. Along with that came the cuisine, music, literature, clothing and the intermixing of the people. In fact, the largest mix of people are Portuzian-Hueti, Aestellian-Hueti, and Portuzian-Aestellian, a mix that shares the largest total to this day.

From there came the Yamoto during the early years of the country, where Western HUElavia signed a deal to take up many peasants from rural areas of Sakura and having them work on farms around the western coast of HUElavia. Much like the previous two colonizers, they brought their cuisine, culture, music, clothes and traditions with them, which still resonate strong along western HUElavia.

The next sort of groups to come were from the continent of Euroa, where Portuzia and Aestellia were located from. Coming from there included the likes of Francs, Rus, Tallians, Eskadis, and Galegos, as they brought their traditions and mainly settled in Eastern HUElavia, influencing the local architecture of the areas they settled in, except for the Galegos, who spread throughout the southern parts of the country. The other exception was the Tallians, who settled towards the Northern Coast, along the Northwest area.

The Guangtzu were the next Aesian group to mainly immigrate in the country, escaping political persecution and settled in a relatively small strip of HUElavian land towards the west, bringing not only the cuisine and culture, in particular their games and fine art that became a popular purchase for many HUElavians. Cog would also be the next group to come, influencing with their cuisine for the most part, settling on the northern coasts of East HUElavia, escaping from a dictatorship.

Breitzen were the next group to immigrate, bringing forward not just their culture, but the idea of full on libertanianism, which grabbed a strong influence in HUElavian politics that persist to this day. The Pinoy were the next group, settling in the far northeast HUElavia, already adjusting well thanks to their cultural influence from Aestellia when they were colonized by them for over 300 years. The Quhah would settle in Northeast HUElavia as well, but in a small peninsula where they became the main Muslim majority area of the country.

The Ibo were the penultimate group, immigrating to the Northwest, bringing their culture to HUElavia and with their commitment to give their best to the country, had shaped racist mindsets many Euroan-HUElavians had into more favorable opinions.

The last group to immigrate would be the Jeong people, who not only brought their culture and cuisine, but also their advances in technology, something that had been collaborated between them and the Yamoto in HUElavia, which is one of the main manufacturing areas of the country to this day.

For the most part, HUElavia is a massive melting pot of people who have mixed over time and have made the idea of inclusion and open to other ideas and cultures. While racism still exists in the country, many HUElavians for the most part welcome other cultures and societys with open arms. After all, being cooperative with each other is what has helped humanity for ages, and it's the same idea that has held HUElavia together for over 200 years.

A CLOSE FOR A WIN FOR THE FIREHAWKS

Again the Guimaraseños are coming to support the Firehawks. It was like a mix of carnival like in Brazil and a fiesta from Mexico. The first period was a neck and neck from the both Hispanic teams. But the Panayenses, as their name suggests, the Azure Hustle showed their hustle all thanks to Tecsón's goal against a HUElavian goalie. But the HUElavians responded with a goal from theirs. But Tecsón wasn't let this slide, scoring more 5 goals. Even though the HUElavians responded with their star player's goals. The last two periods made the match more intense, even though Namgung is a substitute, he also did the hattrick from his game against Crpostran. In the fourth and last period, Salazar passes on to Quiambao and passes on to Choo, who scored the equalizer and the OT goal for the team, but the HUElavians responded back with their 2 goals that made the Panayenses pissed off, but it was a good game for both. "It was so close that we got the time to do some other strategies.", says Reyes. "But I hope our mistakes will be corrected for our next match against Abanhleft in Zansasi will show how we come far as a team." The Firehawks will face group leaders Abanhleft as a chance to win again.

Losing two matches of three in a regional tournament is one thing. The new Arrosian regional lacrosse tournament hadn't had much of a chance to build a following, and the Sarzonian national lacrosse team essentially sleepwalked through the three matches.

They had no such excuse on Matchday Two against traditional rivals Banija, who defeated Sarzonia 21-14 in Sarzonia's first group stage match of the 44th World Lacrosse Championships.

A full nine minutes after her press availability was supposed to begin, a hoarse – and angry – Sarzonia manager Makeeyah Brantley stomped into the press room.

"That was embarrassing," she said. "I don't know if I've ever seen our team play this poorly or ever managed this badly in my tenure here. I've never coordinated a worse defensive performance or managed a team that was that slow in every aspect of the match."

She looked out at the assembled media.

"If anyone has any intelligent questions that don't waste my time, go ahead." She waited a few pregnant seconds before storming out. The next day, she apologised.

"I let my anger get the better of me yesterday," she said. "I managed poorly, we played poorly, and I thought we looked unmotivated against a team we should have absolutely gotten up for. That's on me."

Try telling attack Colin Grassley that.

"She did her part. [Offensive coordinator Tim Pawlenty] did his part. We just didn't execute."

The game we play is back. And so are the Little War Jags. This is the third time that TJUN-ia have partaken in this game and we are certainly grateful to be here, making steady progression both times so far. Now, Ty Halftown is looking to try and cause some real damage in this sport and considering the team at his disposal, that could certainly happen. So what could we do?

Nyibombo Stadium hosted the opener vs Tero al Disco and while no one knew exactly what to expect, we were hoping for a win in this First Battle. To say we won the First Battle would be an understatement...Tero al Disco stood no chance against a team looking to make a statement in this sport. Shonwahnonkon Sundown got 5, Nayu Ueno and Naylea Monterroso got 2 each, Rachael Kwas got the 10th and Charlotte Colson only conceded once the entire game. 10-1. Ten to one. Holy smokes.

We immediately go into a bye after that but next time, we have a double-header: New Umoja in Kaledi, #21 Quebec and Shingoryeo in Angokulo. This will be the start of the tough tests to come, but we feel we are ready for anything. FIGHT ON, LITTLE WAR JAGS!

On brink of disaster, Banijans right ship with 21-14 win over archrivals Sarzonia to net first win of the World Lacrosse Championships

ZANSASI, BANIJAN ESPORTIVAN TERRITORIES OF NJAZA- The Banijans entered the WLCs as one of a group of co-favorites to lift the trophy. Banija, Sarzonia, Abanhfleft, and Baker Park- all 4 of them are favorites, clearly the class of the sport. And with this tournament being hosted in Banija (sort of), we expected to get off to a strong start at the tournament- win a home game in a packed house against Quebec, before a big rivalry match with Sarzonia. And the opening game went off without a hitch. First game of the tournament in general- fireworks going off, marches down the street, let the party begin. Except, of course, for the match itself- Quebec delivered quite a nasty surprise to us, as they doubled our score in a 10-5 upset victory to kickoff the WLCs.

Nothing like an upset to a nation like Quebec, a fierce ally and multi-sport rival, to turn Banijan fans into panic mode. You should have seen the internet after the loss. People calling for the coach to be fired, saying that the BET should have never hosted games, asking for old retired players to be playing for this team instead- saying the team has no heart and soul. While fans were panicking, the coaches told peopple to relax. "It is one game, it is a long group stage." The head coach said. "Plenty of time for us to right the ship."

But the calendar was not kind to the Banijans. The schedule only got more difficult- next up would be Sarzonia. How many titles- 8? 9? Banija's biggest rival in this sport. So much history- almost entirely one-sided (ALMOST... Hello WLC 41). Almost turning it into a must-win match- considering the top 4 advance from group play, an 0-2 start could be overcome, but the chances of them missing out on KO play for the first time since WLC 29, and only for the second time ever... Would go up dramatically. Plus, their ambitions are much larger than KO play- they want to win this tournament outright. Much easier to do it if you are first or second in your group, then if you are fighting for your life on the final day of group play. Is it too soon to say must win, on a second day of a 6 match group stage, when over half the teams make the KO stages?

Call it what you will- the Banijans treated it like a must-win, and got it- scoring 21 goals to have a 21-14 victory over the Stars. So much to fix, was done correctly- a lethargic attack on the opening night seemed focused and driven, and they repeatedly created opportunities that they put away. An electric, high-scoring game- and a bouncy, energetic home crowd carrying Banija the rest of the way. And, of course, helps the views of the NT. With a big win against an archrival and well-respected opponent, it puts the loss against Quebec into a new light. Not a sign of things to come- but a mulligan that teams tend to take, because sports are weird.

"This game was an important one for us, and we're glad to be 1-1." The head coach said. "It was a highly emotional game- both physically and mentally draining. But an important one to win- we have a bye afterwards, which will give us time to rest- but then, the show must go on. We will be ready."

Even though it was only one match into the Sarzonian national lacrosse team's appearance in the 44th World Lacrosse Championships, Makeeyah Brantley and Sarzonia faced a crossroads.

The Stars were "embarrassed" by a 1-2 record in the Arrosian regional championship and another defeat, their second to archrivals Banija, in their WLC opener. That left Sarzonia a combined 1-3 in matches the full national team were playing and actively fighting for results.

Now, Captina Island held a three-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter. Faceoff specialist Noah Ryanson was in the medical tent after an independent neurologist buzzed Brantley to evaluate him for a concussion. He didn't have one, but he was suffering from dehydration.

He received an IV after he was moved to the dressing room. However, after he was evaluated and cleared to return, he went back to Brantley and said, "I'm ready."

He ran back to the X after Sarzonia had gotten a goal to cut the lead to two goals. He won the faceoff, fired a pass to Colin Grassley and that fueled the Stars to a comeback 7-6 win that felt like old times.

"We were fortunate to weather the storm," Brantley said. "Noah did a great job at the X in the fourth quarter and the attack line wouldn't let us lose this one."
