There were fully oceanic crocodiles btw.

Hmmm, I see the tail of Metriorhynchus brevirostris - convergent evolution, you say? :eyebrow:

So could a potentially aquatic or even just semi-aquatic primate have such a tail?

Well it would have to be completely adapted to living in the deep oceans because a tailflipper is just not great on land. <.<

Why deep tho? Do dolphins not live close to the surface?

Looks a lot like your average prehistoric sea reptile tbh. I couldn't decide which I like better for the poll; sauropods or pleistocene mammals.

My knowledge of biology is primarily at the cellular and slightly larger level, and mostly confined to humans, but I'd say that it's possible, or at least I hope it would be, because that's really freaking cool.

Oh nice. I find pleistocene mammals fascinating because they look recognizable enough, yet at the same time they're distinct enough fromm their modern counterparts to make it clear these guys are not of our world. Case in point: procoptodon.

Yes, I agree. Out of all the periods that if you were transported to, right now, the Pleistocene, and even just the latter part of the Cenozoic period, is the only one you're likely gonna recognize as being Earth, and not some totally alien planet. Even more, just consider what fucked up wacky creatures from the Camrbian-Silurian periods didn't fossilize. We can only judge from the Vetulicolians and the Tullimonstum to judge a mere fraction of that.

Tbf you'd recognize days before the dinosaurs where insects were big and freaky.

Probably. Some, like dragonflies, would be relatively the same - speaking in body plans. Though, there were undoubtedly so many more horrific critters, that still, it'd be hard to recognize (unless you really are into paleozoology - in that case, just going near a water source would make you see a primitive land tetrapod; probably making you guess it is likely Earth).

I recommend a strong antihistamine.
Odds are, a person would die of anaphylactic shock within fifteen minutes of taking in the air of most bygone geologic eras.
The purpose of life is not to be happy.

to have it make some difference that you have lived,

Especially in Ediacaran-Carboniferous (without taking into accouns the Pre-Ediacaran periods). Except during the Carboniferous, in all the other periods, you'd most likely die within 5 minutes.

Also consider how flammable the air would be with so much oxygen and methane around.

Shall we move on to a different topic? Like creating a poll for favourite sea creature?

1. Very, as evident by the Carboniferous rainforest collapse.
2. Sure! How about monkey or fungi?
3. Not now, but I will note your idea and give you credit for it down the line :)

Insects are Obviously the Most Successful eukaryotic Organism

-They are the most Numerous
- Strongest Pound for pound (Dung beetles)
- Best Hunters (Dragon Fly)
- Most Cooperative (Just look at ants/Bees and Compare that to humans)
- Most Essential Eukaryotic Organisms (Pollinators, Decomposers etc)
- They have the Ability to scare an Animal atleast 50x their Size
- Some Species are Very resistant to Radiation and can live for weeks without a Head

They're only Weakness is Stupidly and low Life Expectancy
I'd say the humble ant is the Perfect Eukaryotic organism as it has the majority of the Strengths of Insects and They have good intellectual Capacity and Life Expectancy in Comparison to other Insects, not to mention unlike say cockroaches they aren't Reliant on humans.

In a Hypothetical event that all animals for some Reason decided to go to war with humanity, Insects would fare best.

- Large Mammals would immediately be Crushed due to them having little Stealth and being Easy slow moving targets, and they take Ages to Reproduce.

- any Carnivores would have no luck as literal Kevlar is a good Protection against their bites this is not even Regarding Highly Protective metal Armor, not to mention the average car is about as fast as a cheetah, the literal Fastest Animal, Humans basically have an Armoured Cheetah that can Last for hours without Recharging

- Small Mammals are Pretty Irrelevant besides the fact that they Reproduce Quickly

- Fish stand Absolutely no chance as pollution and Overfishing alone is killing them and they can't even go near Humans.

- The average Bird can be knocked out via a Baseball though their flight is the only real issue to humans, their eggs are really vulnerable to humans and they'd have to Be constantly Protected

Meanwhile Insects negate all this issues:

- they Reproduce in the Billions
- Small and Unassuming enough to not be Targeted
- They're very General and don't have a Specific Weakness
- They're mostly underground which humans can't Reach
- They're already in the Quadrillions
- good luck trying to shoot an Insect
- Pollution isn't that much of an issue to insects
- Food is basically everywhere for an Insect

Thus I nominate insects as the Perfect Anti-human biological Weapon

Not sure. At least they're kept in company unlike how cetaceans were kept.

This takes into consideration most people are armed. They are not.
Elephants would kill hundreds, if not tens of thousands of villagers and even citizens in India and Africa, same with Rhinoceroses, sharks, crabs and other marine creatures could at the very least scare unsuspecting tourists, at the most kill and eat them, whales would more than likely attack and collapse cruises and cargo ships, bears and wolves could swarm and slaughter many villages and even small cities in Siberia, Northern Canada and Europe (although it would be most correct to say where such carnivores generally live), catfish could stalk unsuspecting small children near rivers and then attack them, as they do with pigeons sometimes, even scarier would the case be with Crocodillians, Hippos and Zebras would also absolutely destroy the fuck of countless lives before being down, birds could from time pick out human eyes, especially those of children, although that would be more rare than what we considered to be the success of Nikocado Avocado's weightloss journey before he did, ungulates in general would cause a hella lot of trouble as well, dolphins with their intelligence could wait for dolphinariums to fill up and then break the glass, attacking and surely killing many people in the process, pet animals would go absolute bazooka mode on their owners, don't even get me started on gorillas and especially chimpanzees in zoos! - you get the picture.

But yeah, insects would probably be the biggest threat to humanity in such an unfortunate scenario - especially the stinging ones. In short, we'd be doomed.
Nature is beautiful. Praise the LORD!
