Football is the by far most popular sport in Tikariot. The Tikariot Premier League is the highest tier of the Tikariotian football pyramid and is one of the most competitive leagues in the multiverse.
With five World Cup participations, including one Round of 16 appearance, Tikariot has been part of the rising Rushmorean sub-region of Pavola. After a whole slew of first knock-out-stage exits, Copa Rushmori 42 turned into what the whole nation hopes to be the turning point in their fates when they beat their neighbours and rivals of Græntfjall in the final for their first victory in a big tournament. Tikariot is trying to make it six qualifications in a row!

The fans of the Snowy Owls, called the Dark Tide, also deserve particular mention. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick-off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. Then a lone drum will start to signal the rhythm and both players and fans alike will move in unison, each clap accompanied by a loud cry, the claps (and cries) speeding up, creating an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

Brian McAllister - 51

After having been assistant to now former coach Stuart Ekstrom, Brian McAllister made the move to Sargossa and enjoyed a lot more success than his former mentor, having two Copa Rushmori victories under his belt. With him, the Snowy Owls continue to utilize their flexible 4-3-3, in which the fullbacks can push forward and the wingers drop back depending on the game situatin, add unpredictability. With this formation, he also won Tikariot's first and personal third Copa Rushmori at CR42.

When all else fails, the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft always has one last option to turn to when the going gets tough: look at what worked before and see if it can work again. Gennady Chernenko won the Jenna Raven Cup for the Fleftic women's football team. Can he now lead the men's team to their first World Cup finals in a long, long time?

RB: Masakazu CHIBA 30 y/o, Riuwiee United

Masakazu Chiba is one of an ever-growing number of football players in the Democratic Republic who trace their lineage back to the Japanese nations such as Flardania and, in Masakazu's case, Aji No Moto. Although he was never capped for any of Abanhfleft's youth teams, Ranulph Bustamante is apparently convinced that Masakazu will be able to handle being a bench option for the senior national team for the current World Cup qualifiers. Chiba-san will now get the chance to show his stuff under Levi Baak.

RCB: Elias THONET 24 y/o, Wanda Island Wanderers

People might say that he's a bit short for a central defender (even if he is 5 feet 10 inches), but that isn't really what Elias has been doing there ever since he first grabbed the attention of Fleftic fans while playing for Garufaloe F.C. He's already a good defender right off the bat, but his real strengths lie in his passing and technique. Wanda Island signed him to be a ball-playing center back, and Levi Baak expects him to do the same for the Democratic Republic.

LCB: Chris BELLINGHAM 23 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi

That old joke of one inch of height making all of the difference between one's perception of how tall another person is compared to another is making rounds all over the Fleftic football fandom once again thanks to the new partnership of Elias Thonet and Chris Bellingham in the Fleftic backline. Bellingham really does look like a mountain next to Thonet, but in all seriousness, his height is only secondary to what he actually does on the pitch. His main job is to defend, defend, defend, and thanks to his height and incredible jumping ability, Bellingham is also a threat on the set piece.

LB: Emmanuel LIN 27 y/o, Locomotive Imgortur

Locomotive Imgortur had a terrible campaign which almost resulted in their relegation, but no one can say that Manny Lin didn't do what he could to prevent that from happening. Indeed, Lin was perhaps the only bright spot in a shockingly porous back line for the Engineers, as hardly any team managed to get any joy down the left flank whenever he was playing. Now Gennady Chernenko hopes that Lin can do the same for the national team.

The fact that he's only getting a call-up to the senior team now is criminal, to say the least. Some would even hazard to say that four years of his career was wasted while the Revolutionaries struggled to remain competitive in the World Cup qualifiers with a bunch of older players, but at least he's in the team now, and he's just hitting his prime as well. Baburov, also known as Sam to make it easy for everyone else, is pretty much this new-look team's midfield engine, distributing the ball when he is on it and going box-to-off while off the ball. He's also good at set pieces, but he's better off finding a target instead of actually going for goal himself.

LM: Audric DUBREUCQ 23 y/o, Malabon SC

Dubreucq is not the best young midfielder in Abanhfleft, not even by a country mile. But he pretty much makes up for his shortcomings by being the kind of guy who gives his all when it comes to either defending or attacking. That being said, he's best utilized as a counterattacking player. He's speedy and he's got a wicked left foot on him. That left peg of his is strong enough to turn a football into a cannonball, and if he existed in a cartoon world, Dubreucq would be putting holes into goalkeepers' chests every single game.

RW: Roberto CARLOS LADO 22 y/o, Athletic Wa Deg

Carlos Lado doesn't really look like he fits the mold of a winger: he's big, he's tall, and he's not really that fast. Well, he could definitely beat the average football fan in a foot race, but there are definitely other wingers and even fullbacks who will leave him in the dust in the blink of an eye. In fact, Lado is probably more suited to being a support striker, and Levi Baak's tactics might actually allow him to do that. But as far as being a winger goes, he does have the technique to whip in an inviting cross, and he can and does score the occasional free kick.

CAM: Sven FAHRNI 22 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky

Fahrni has that no-nonsense attitude wherein he only needs to be told what to do once, and then he will do exactly that until someone tells him to stop. This attitude however has also given him a blunt personality wherein he says exactly what he thinks, and if he thinks that someone else is preventing him from doing his job quickly and effectively then he will tell that person to get out of his way, usually in less polite terms. That hasn't earned him a lot of friends, but because he's good at what he does, everyone else tolerates his presence on the pitch and off it. And Sven Fahrni wouldn't have it any other way.

LW: Sacit KÖZALMAZ 23 y/o, Sarvusdalamoive

Közalmaz isn't really the mirror opposite of Carlos Lado, but he does have qualities that Lado lacks. Those qualities include a better defensive mentality and the ability to dance and dribble his way out of trouble should the need arise. Pace, however, is one of Közalmaz's weaknesses, and he can't pass or cross the ball to save his life, but he does make up for it somewhat by being an actual threat in front of goal even if it isn't necessarily his job to take pot shots.

ST: Mustafa BENSOUSSAN 31 y/o, Bananas FC

Bananas may have been relegated from the Premier League, but if that's not making Mustafa turn his head then nothing probably will. The young man is dedicated to the cause of bringing Bananas right back up, but unlike some of the other sides to have been relegated from the league in previous seasons, Bananas don't look like they would be able to do it as quickly. Nevertheless, Mustafa is still scoring goals for fun, and will now fill in for the aging Kareem Dagen for the men's national team starting from this Independent Associations Championship.

Remember the time when Abanhfleft's fullbacks played more like wingbacks and were constantly bombing up and down the flanks of the pitch even when the formation had actual wingers in it? It would seem like Galindez's fullback training was in direct response to that, since while he definitely has the pace to become a wingback, the art of defending had been drilled so deeply into him that it really looks like it hurts him when he crosses the halfway line. It's strange, but apparently it works for him.

RCB: Jevon EUSEBIO 25 y/o, Xemlice Rovers

Jevon Eusebio had already shown glimpses of greatness even while he was rising through the ranks of Xemlice Rovers, from the academy to the first team, but this was the first season that the defender finally showed that he had what it takes to be an FPL-quality player. And with Gennady Chernenko searching for young blood to reinvigorate the national squad, Eusebio looks to be exactly the kind of player he's looking for.

LCB: Jarrett LIBUNAO 27 y/o, Gyouza Young Lads

It's probably fair to say that there was a high probability that Gyouza Young Lads wouldn't have earned their promotion back to the Fleftic Premier League without the efforts of one Jarrett Libunao to help the Lads get back up to the top flight. Libunao is a tenacious defender, never giving up on trying to get the ball off of the feet of the opponent, sometimes regardless of the consequences. And it's exactly that kind of tenacity that Gennady Chernenko hopes to add to this team in order to bring them back to their glory days or begin an entirely new age, depending on who one talks to.

LB: Gary SAGUN 28 y/o, General Santos FC

Even Gary Sagun himself thought that he was very far away from getting a call up for the Revolutionaries, but here he was now. It would seem like he's a strange choice for the left back position, but Levi Baak himself has said that he fits exactly the profile that he's looking for in his current Abanhfleft setup for the Independents Cup. Sagun is a veteran no-nonsense left back who is a solid defender on his side of the pitch, and while his pace is perhaps average at best, if Baak is to be believed then that is good enough for the Abanhfleft team.

RM: Iraklis BABALIOUTAS 22 y/o, Nagato Crownslayers

(Riena)
He is the beating heart of this young team in more ways than one. On the pitch, Babalioutas may only be an average midfielder at the moment but he's already got solid technique A few more refinements to his game and maybe putting on some more muscle and he'll be pretty much ready for the Fleftic Premier League and maybe even international football. Off the pitch, Babalioutas is a lad who wears his heart on his sleeve, and he's not afraid to be seen crying, whether it's tears of sadness or tears of joy. It's just so easy to gravitate to this young man and become fond of him.

LM: Oliver THORNTON 25 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi

One of the younger players breaking through the ranks of Arsenal de Releinthi under Oleg Mostovoi is none other than Oliver Thornton. He's not a physical specimen by any means but he has a keen eye for the killer pass. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but the key thing about him is that he actually tries to move play forward, something that surely attracted the attention of Gennady Chernenko, and now Thornton has been rewarded with a spot in the qualifying roster.

RW: Palmer HICKS 28 y/o, Locomotive Imgortur

In a team where the system doesn't have much use for a winger, how is one such right winger in one such team supposed to get game time? On loan to another club, of course! Palmer is entering the second year of a two-year loan deal to newly promoted Electric Yugal with an option to buy for the Bolts. He did well for Electric during their promotion campaign in Unang Liga, but can he do the same in the Premier League? Ranulph Bustamante believes Palmer can do it with the national team, so there's that.

CAM: Jayden SCHOLES 29 y/o, CSKA Tiraspol

Scholes is kind of a weird player: it looks like he has everything he could possibly want and need to succeed in playing football, but then and again there's an issue that pops up that seemingly puts a halt to all of that interesting potential. He could get injured one season and then go through disciplinary issues the next. Perhaps that's the reason why he's still kicking around in the Pridnestrovian Super League when almost any other player with the skillset that he has will have been sold to the FPL. Nevertheless, Levi Baak clearly sees something in him that the manager believes will be very helpful for the Revolutionaries in the long run. Hopefully it doesn't come at the cost of a more deserving player, but then that brings up an entirely different conundrum of who counts as a more deserving player. Sometimes, it really is hard being the manager of a national team.

LW: Drew ALONTO 26 y/o, South Ons Deg Rabbitohs A.F.C.

Levi Baak clearly has a type of winger that he favors above all else, and that is a winger who isn't always the quickest player on the pitch but does have enough technical ability to wriggle his way out of trouble if need be and also knows how and when to cross the ball. Alonto's problem is that while he does know when to cross the ball, he doesn't know how to cross it. At least he doesn't know how to cross the ball without hitting the first opposition player. But he does try to help out in the defensive side of things even if sometimes that creates problems of its own.

ST: Bradley AQUINO 24 y/o, Kimmirut Panhandle

People have always rated Bradley's older brother Braydon Aquino as being the future national team player, at least the one assured of getting consistent call-ups and starts. But once again, those people were wrong, and it is now Bradley who has seemingly nailed down a place in the starting eleven while Braydon is nowhere near the senior Revolutionaries team. It's almost carbon copy of the story of the Williamson siblings, Charlene and Gareth. Everyone also thought that Gareth would go on to do great things with the Revolutionaries while Charlene would fade into obscurity. Instead, the exact opposite happened. What a freaky coincidence, right?

There has been a lot of buzz regarding the Aphrilian National Team.

The team, better known as The Anchors, had found themselves in the World Cup Playoffs with a chance of making to the tournament proper last cycle. Unfortunately, they lost the match against West Barack and East Obama. But them getting there had set hope for this team. And with the team rolling around for their third ever participation of the World Cup Qualifying, for now, they just wish to set out and prepare to try and achieve what they did last cycle again. But there is a lot of uncertainty, especially regarding the fact that Aphrilia are keeping the same personnel from last cycle with no additions among other things. Despite that however, they're hopeful that they can at least put up a big fight. Even more so now that The Anchors have a new home ground in the Millennium Dawn Stadium that has a maximum capacity of 73.100 fans. We'll just have to see what this team can bring. Again.

Ever since the national team's conception, Christopher Vermont has had The Anchors play a 4 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 in somewhat of a diamond shape.

The team plays a mixed style, often controlling their pace whenever having possession. They originally played a slow build-up, but now have three varying paces of "slow" and "fast" tempo of play. Although not as fast as many of the footballing countries that play quick, aggressive football, it's fast enough for this Aphrilian team to make a surprise. The fast tempos of play are used typically for the counter-attack and pressing of the enemy whenever not in possession of the ball, whilst the slow tempos of play would be used for whenever the team was on defense, playing build-up, or generally launching an attack towards the opposition half. This was done in order to contribute to the solution of enemy teams taking advantage of Aphrilia's previously slow and abysmal pace during the build-up. The other part of the solution is for someone to control the team's tempo of play.

Every single midfielder on the national team is taught on how to change the team's tempo by giving out orders, typically by hand signs and shouting out a code of communications to signify which tempo they would use. This single designated person is known as the team's Anchor, selected for each match by the manager himself. Everyone else on the team understands the code of communications as well in order to know how fast or slow they should play. The Anchor's orders regarding tempo is often coordinated with how the team captain wants the match to play out. These tactics were developed by the players themselves and was implemented for the first time in the 96th edition of World Cup Qualifying. And ever since then, this is the go to tactical system the team has used. Future players of course will also be taught the code of communications (And for midfielders, also how to be the Anchor).

FAN CULTURE
Aphrilians can be both patriotic and respectful most of the time. The keywords in that sentence being most of the time.

At home, Aphrilians will be chanting, singing, and cheering on from the beginning to the end of the match. And with the Millennium Dawn Stadium being designed in a way that gives the home crowd a good advantage (All within the rules), expect intense pressure from the stands. Tifos will be displayed, flags will be waved. No matter the end result, this nation will support it's team to the very end. However, they will be respectful to the opposition team and the away fans that travelled all the way to Darlingtown to see their team. Alcohol is banned in stadiums in a continuous effort to keep hooliganism at bay, and security is guaranteed for the teams as well as fans. The home crowd are friendly a lot of the times, so expect harmony and kinship before and after the match. This attitude is also shared for those who go to the away games, being respectful and proud.

And that is most of the time. However, when Aphrilians do end up getting rowdy, they can often cause quite the commotion. Public disturbance, vandalizing, damage to public and private property, those kind of things. But overall, the fanbase is calm enough that these occurrences are a sort of "once in a blue moon" kind of thing. In most cases where Aphrilians are reserved before and after matches, they often socialize with not only their own but also away fans whenever The Anchors are playing at home. On away days, the fans that are willing to make the trip will be sociable depending on if there's any restrictions placed on them as away fans or not. Generally having fun with each other before and after the matches by sharing songs, playing games with one another, enjoying the before and after festivities of a hopefully exciting football match.

With U.S Scudelli being the most consistent performing team of the bunch having a Juven goalkeeper, Juan Carlos Ungaro's first team spot is not to be touched whatsoever. His leadership and excellent performances through the World Cup have made him an undisputed starting goalkeeper for the majority of the games la squadra is meant to play in any World Cup Committee-sanctioned event. Wright on the other had a mostly-injured year, however Gaetan keeps him on his notes for some pretty notable performances he exhibited through the year. While Imeri and Gomes' consistency are always appreciated, but do not seem to amount to Ungaro's work ethic. For a neglected position, la squadra has been having a great depth of goalkeepers, one that does not need changing so far. However, there is a good amount of goalkeepers lined up in case anyone is inconsistent through this cycle.

Defenders:

The defender's position is always kept for players who are speedy, positionally adept and physically strong for their size and usually either have excellent leadership skills, game intelligence or a hot-headedness and most of a time a combination of the three. It is a position that also lacks the respect it deserves in Juven society, but it is one that is necessary in order to make it easier for the goalkeeper and the team as a whole.

This cycle is the first time in quite a while that the stable backline of Puig-Callejon-Coste is undergoing any sort of change. With Puig's inconsistency at the helm of Los Amazones and Agnelli's consistent performances and move to a more defensively sound league, we will be seeing more of her on the back of the team. While behaving more like a typical Juven defender instead of being a tall instigator like Puig, Agnelli is more than a suitable replacement for the team's "big guy" and one that will perform more consistently. As for Callejon and Coste, while still starters, their positions could be at risk at any moment, despite their importance for the team. With Callejon aging up and approaching his final playing years, now in Doubeia, he may have a bit of energy left in his tank for a few solid performances but hungry and younger players like Pujals, Nogueira and Lopes are in the horizon currently.

Midfielders:

A midfielder is always a maestro on the pitch and depending on which side of the midfield they are in, their characteristics change. There's no pure centrocampista in Juvencus, instead players play as offensive-minded CDM's in the middle of the field. Those players usually have vision, exceptional passing or crossing and usually dictate the speed of the attack, the most necessary element of this team's tactics. They also fall back to form a bus when deemed absolutely necessary. In the sides, you have wide midfielders who act as supplementary wingers, players with speed who can provide to the wingers or the forwards when necessary. As such, you get to see fast players with great inward crossing and forward passing.

Midfield has remained mostly intact as well with the only exception being the officialisation of Sara Ponce as a starting player. Her quick feet and high football intellect have landed her a much deserved spot in the starting lineup. With a bright present and even brighter future ahead of her, she is going to be pivotal from now on as she was before. Simon Oliveira is going to be just as important for the team's attacks and forward carries come forward, approaching his peak, he has proven his worth for the national team. From new addition, Mehmet Kurtuluş and his performances for Petro Mohammed FC have given him a spot in la squadra for the first time ever. Great performances during the Independents Cup also gave Silvia Lopez a spot on the main squadra, with her ready to prove herself on the highest stage of them all. Despite age catching on to several players, the midfield has a good combination of experience and competitiveness that can keep the team's spirits and attacking tempo alive.

Besides that, gli attaccanti find themselves in an interesting predicament. With this depth of squad, rotations will have to be more constant in the midfield due to the fact that most players are equal in terms of skill and what they offer to the table. With that said, la squadra will be relying much more on attacks orchistrated from the center of the midfield, with sideways attacks being of equal importance still.

Attackers:

A position held with the utmost respect as it has the most prestige in Juven football. The task to be picked for it is simple, you should know both how to score and how to supply goals. It is a position that has the most competition, as most talented Juven players are up in front and are very known across the multiverse for their prowess in front of the goal. As such, it is a position with a lot of pressure to be in, much like the goalkeeper. Wingers are fast, brilliant technicians who are excellent suppliers and have a confusingly good shooting technique. Strikers on the other, they have a strong finishing touch akin to an unstoppable force on a consistent level.

Words cannot describe an offensive setup quite like this one. Ceferino Audiol is the team's main talent, a player that has proven his worth in multiple top leagues across the multiverse, plying his trade in Tumbra being the T-League's top scorer. In the meanwhile, Campana is his main competition to that spot, now with a big move to Montreal City in Quebec. While players like Jorba and Teixeira are new standouts that would only hope to break the dominance these 2 have over the main striker spot, with the former being the top scorer on a relegation bound side in Ko-oren yet landing a big money move to FC Piluzzi to work alongside Teixeira who popped off during last season's Campionato.

While Garcia may have a few good seasons left in his tank, Bevilacqua's sudden rise is no joke. Gaetan's promise to promote changes in the team has given the Chromatik star a chance to shine. With that said, Garcia will be taking copious amounts of playtime for the national team and with equally good young talent on the rise, the left winger position is under serious competition.

On the other hand, Soares is not so undisputed in his starting position, as all players on the right winger position are close skill-wise. However, with Luizinho's outstanding performance at the recent Independents Cup, there is nothing left to be said besides he has the most potential out of anyone to take the starting position, considering Soares' aging.

Gael Gaetan's version of the Pomenienze involves an equality in importance for attacks from both the center of the field as well as the sides. This means players are enticed to test out their luck more often than not and it promotes cooperation between players familiarised with each other. This has worked wonders for U.S Scudelli, who have gone on deep international club runs as well as having the highest scoring output in the Campionato.

Overview
World Cup 96 saw the multiverse descend on the nations of Huayramarca and Mertagne for the World Cup finals, which brought a much needed shot in the arm to the economies of both nations, and showed the multiverse just what our corner of Anaia was capable of. It turns out that for the Mertagnian national team, that would be a similar performance to their first finals appearance in the modern era, in World Cup 95, in a win, a draw, and a loss a piece. Unfortunately, this wasn't good enough to make it outside of the group stage of that finals, but it did serve as a excellent springboard for a strong performance in CAFA 9, as the Green Goblins sought to defend their title but lost in the final match to regional tournament heavyweights Pacitalia. Admittedly, their heavyweight status comes from a time before the CAFA Cup, but the Blue Foxes showed us they've still got it when it counts.

Luka Hazaluta has put out an identical squad to that of the CAFA, claiming that the second place finish in the regional proves that this squad has what it takes to see Mertagne qualify for a third World Cup in a row. Technically. With the field expanded to 48 teams for the first time ever, the chances of qualification are better than ever, but as a result, so is the competition to get there.

Mertagnian fans will be desperate to see if this uniquely inspired run of form over the last three cycles continues, as the country rebuilds itself in the wake of the devastating events of the Bostopian Conflict, with the nation now four years past the fighting, as of the World Cup Finals, and three past the Treaty of Cestravolpe. Mertagne has also been a part of inter-regional trade and movement area ACORN for two years now, and with it has come an unprecedented economic boom that, in tandem with the hosting of the World Cup, has seen the average Mertagnian with a lot more purchasing power than in recent years. The social democratic government has been funnelling much of these new-found funds into infrastructure, rebuilding what was destroyed in the BoCo and improving the nation's rail networks, while also working to bring in high-tech industry to the country, to avoid the 'brain drain' effect that has unfortunately been compounded with the nation's entry into ACORN, as many skilled workers move to higher-paying nations such as Krytenia and Ko-oren. One of the highlights of the infrastructure reforms is a brand new set of bridges that will cross the Grinshem Sound, Mertagne's main shipping corridor into the capital, Dannin, and will connect Horsehead Island to the mainland by a road connection.

Breakdown
Rhiannon Fawn continues to take the mantle as captain, and will be shouting down the pitch at her team mates, making sure they're in position while flying around the goal-line to stop shots. Two younger upstarts in Callaghan Bauldry and Saif Dedec provide backup, with Bauldry fantastic at supplying the ball to teammates on the defensive line after an opposing attack, and Dedec able to determine the pace of play near the goal line and use his unique viewpoint to bring the defensive line into shape.

That defensive line consists of Karon Murell, Kelssek all-star, on the left. In the middle, the pairing of Conwal Ibarborde and Aato Irizarri will serve well to win the ball and quickly get it out either to the sides or to the midfield. On the right, Hazaluta has given young Dominic Moko a shot, hoping that Moko will continue to be a solid member of the defensive third. Gregor Charlton of Farrenton Athletic and Miliav Petremol are solid options against more attacking sides, keeping close to the goal and working well with keepers such as Callaghan Bauldry. Michael Thurtle and Emone Rockas provide options if the team want to adopt a more inline or forward stance on the wings respectively, as Rockas is able to pair with Murell to take the ball out to the midfield on the wings, whereas Thurtle is good at condensing play towards the centre.

The wings of the midfield are typically comprised of Stewart Bickley and Amy Quennell. Both have similar styles, and compliment the play from the defence of using the wings to get the ball up the field and into the box. The fulcrum of this squad in Hazaluta's eyes is the pairing of Aislin Du Moucel and Jordan Will. Du Moucel's success in the S-FPL has seen her work excellently as a kickstarter of deadly attacks, and it is that playmaking attitude that will see her succeed on the national side as well. Jordan Will's flair for making defence-breaking plays and clattering the ball up-field are vital for the team to unlock central attacking options. Adorned in a white and sky-blue colour scheme, the ultra-corporate attitude is rife here, with the stadium sporting a large upper section for the elite of nations multiverse-wide to watch the match below in peace. Everything at The Scabbard is meticulously kept, often to the detriment of the fans, as the price at the bar here is likely more expensive than at any other stadium in the country.

Last cycle in general was very bright for the Claws, but their main failure came in WCQ. Now a third seed in their qualifying group, Kameron Boyd's men look to push farther than any Saterun team has made it before. The transition period continues, as Alil and Alfienk break into the Starting XI while Washington, Hammel, and Kirken-Brice bring youthfulness to the bench. It will be an interesting look at how the new generation of Saterun talent develops, with many promising players needing to fight for places in the squad. Becker holds on to the captaincy, while he, Demare, and Bates look the best players of the squad. Some experience is provided by Coiro, Lundquist, Dalca, and Abiatti, and this side looks threatening. They'll have to learn from last time and make sure to start strongly, but if they do, they could be in for an era-defining WCQ run.

Where is Vdara? What is Vdara? Who are Vdara? Is it a state? It’s a state of mind, that’s for sure. Established during the times of Ancient Greek colonisation, the first Vdaran settlement was in the modern day capital city of Chania, where a valiant crew had stumbled upon after setting off from Athens, and decided to settle down. This settlement evolved into a city, and this city decided to set up its own settlements, spreading Vdaran culture and ideals across many of the Mediterranean islands, creating their own archipelago. The Vdaran archipelago would go on to change hands several times over the next few millennia, being held by the Turks, Venetians, and Greeks - to name just a few. Fast forward to the present, and now you have a gyro-eating, sports-loving nation with a people who are dedicated to following Vdaran football loudly and proudly. They’ve seen the highs, and they’ve seen the lows, and they’ll now see the present. Fiercely committed to defending their honour, every single Vdaran - from the players, to the coaches, to the ordinary man or woman chilling on their couch, shouting at their television - will be readily available to convince people that, no, Vdara are not has-beans. They’re the real deal.

State-Approved Biography

The People’s Democratic Republic of Vdaran Western Territories, more commonly known as West Vdara, is a small group of islands located off the west coast of Africa. Having separated from the Republic of Vdara during a period of political turmoil for the ruling communist party (KKV), many of the nation’s important left-leaning figureheads fled to the newly-established nation to ensure the continuation of an ideal socialist paradise as Crete and Cyprus began to seek more moderate politics. Since then, West Vdara has enjoyed a period of relative peace and isolation, with neither the Republic nor the West seeking any form of immediate unification - in fact, quite the opposite, despite some attempts to mend and strengthen the ties between the two. The KKV have easily sustained political dominance in the country, having won every election since 1995, leading many to label West Vdara as a dictatorial, one-party state. Despite this, the KKV maintains that all elections are free and fair, decrying all doubters as ‘agents of Chania’ and preventing independent observers from keeping an eye on things.

There are seven islands that make up West Vdara:-

- Nifaria: With a population of just under a million, Nifaria is West Vdara's largest and most important island, with all government business going through the capital city of Agios Stavros. Mountainous and agricultural, Nifaria serves as the nation's main source of sustenance, with bananas and fish serving as crucial parts of the West Vdaran palate. Most footballers from the squad hail from this island.

- Kanaria: Slightly smaller in both population and landmass, Kanaria could just as easily be called "Nifaria's wee brother". The island nonetheless serves as West Vdara's industrial hub, with factories and ports across the island allowing it to be the nation's transport and export hub.

- Ploufialia: Small and agricultural, Ploufialia is mainly known for its vineyards more than anything else. This does, however, mean that West Vdaran wine is quite divine.

- Ombrion: A rather unassuming island, Ombrion is primarily known for its avocados and cattle - as well as its volcanic activity, making the soil extremely fertile and thus very suitable for agricultural usage.

- Tzounonia: Miniscule and boring. Let's move on [NOTHING SECRET IS OCCURRING ON THIS ISLAND].

- Planasia: One of the larger islands by landmass (but not by population), Planasia's size and lack of population allows for it to be used as West Vdara's dairy and cereals capital, with nationalised cheeses and grains making their way to the rest of the islands from the various farms and mills.

BAAS Chairbear: Morra Dumble _ Clan= WestWoods; female Ursine; formerly manager of ‘Heroes' Park Heroines'’, one of the country’s leading teams, after being their chief coach and also playing for them in various roles for a number of years; appointed to this post approximately nine & a half years ago. Age = 46, fur = light-medium brown with reddish tints, left-pawed; reasonably fluent in a LOT of languages.

Yes, it’s an all-female team again. As I’ve explained before, this is because the main ball-game that's traditionally been played in Bears Armed is actually closer to being a form of Rugby, but [for several reasons] that sport’s “proper” teams are all-male and so some females who wanted to make it as players decided that switching to Soccer — and trying to establish a professional league for that sport for themselves instead — might be a viable alternative: They were right, because that professional league was founded shortly after WC44 and so has now been in operation for over two eightSquareds of years.

All of the players and support staff are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal, "talking" Bears), except for any whom I actually specify as being members of other ‘peoples’. The Harr'aynau people are physically human (more-or-less, anyway, although inclined towards heavy builds & hairiness), but are spiritually & culturally Ursine instead. 'Ursomorphic' Humans vary a bit in how much they look like Bears, but are spiritually Human and culturally part of the nation's small Ashkenazic Jewish minority.

The ages & lengths of experience currently given below are basically correct for the start of the qualifying process, although of course in some cases birthdays will take place during this ‘season’ rather than just (however much easier that would make keeping the records accurately…) only between ‘seasons’…

(Age = mid-forties, fur = light brown, right-pawed; like many other members of his clan, is slightly more “anthropomorphic” than is typical for Bears from this nation; speaks Ursine, Artorranick,English, French, some German, and some Greek; keen chess-player.

Security Chief: Major (Reserve) Merrfinh Blonk _ Clan = WestWoods; male; now a full-time employee of BAAS, after being on loan from serving as [REDACTED] in the Confederal Army as was the case for the previous tournaments from DBC45 to CoH88. Age = late forties, fur = medium-brown & relatively long, right-pawed [apparently]; speaks Ouesttree, French, Ursine, and English… at the least.

Deputy Security Chief: Hrrobin Drake _ Clan = WestWoods; male Ursine; formerly a policeBear from Wiston City, he had already been loaned-out to help with security for the Belles & for Wimbley Stadium during several cycles before his appointment to this newly-established role 2 years ago; he is in a long-term relationship with player Steffannee Bruin…

Fandom Liaison Officer: Etta Halliday, who played in the DBC45 team and was given this job shortly after that but took most of the WC93 cycle off on maternity leave. Now has a son, named Darren, who is approximately 11½ years old and who probably will be travelling along with her.

Harrdiharr Arranger: Karra-Marra SunDaughter _ Clan = Sun; female Ursine; age = 52 years; left-pawed, fur = ‘golden’; specialises in adapting the ‘harrdiharr’ for optimum effects depending on the performers, opposition, location, and possibly other factors; background not made public, but was hired by BAAS on a part-time basis for thir campaigns from the WC84 qualifiers onwards. Sspeaks Ursine, English, and quite a few other languages as well (She seems to have a natural — or maybeso even supernatural? — talent for learning languages, and might also help the team with translation duties as well…); interests include chess, swing music [& dance], and stage musicals.

Kit Supervisor: Missus Burrows _ Clan = Brock [which is actually a ‘Double Clan’…] & 'Demi-Clan' within this = WesterBrock; female Brock (i.e. anthropomorphic Badger); apparently middle-aged; has been with the team since before DBC46; responsible for ensuring that all players have suitable kit available, clean and intact, for every game, and also [following the coaches’ orders] for making sure that their boots have the appropriate studs fitted for dealing with local conditions; also, makes sure that balls and [if necessary] temporary nets are available for practice when the team is away from home.

'Special Advisor': Sermharn the Wanderer: appearing as a male Ursine (of 'brown bear' type), whose age cannot be pinned down any further than "adult" (He has been around Bears Armed, on & off, for over a thousand years!); he is a mystic of considerable power who doesn't quite fit into any of the "usual" categories known to the Bears... He helps the team & staff to travel safely, even when this involves crossing between Realities, and may help the chaplains to protect them against supernatual problems at other times as well.

'Special Advisor': Lurra Lovegood _ Clan = WhiteBear; female Ursine; no playing experience beyond amateur level, her background is in journalism and education instead; age = 52 years (but looks significantly younger), right-pawed, fur = cream, short and a bit lightly built for her age; graduated from Hogwings Academy, where she now teaches 'Management of Magickal Creatures' (wand = 13", white ash with a Snorkack-mane core, familiar = a leucistic [i.e. white, but not albino] Magpie); speaks English, Ursine, and probably at least one other Ursine or Human language, and apparently can understand the language[s] of birds as well; generally serene in mood, but sometimes seems to be talking about irrelevant or enigmatic topics.

Usual starters = #1, #2 & #3, either #4 or #20, #5 & #6, #7 & #11 & #22, #13 & #14.
Usual substitutes #15 or #16 as Goalkeeper; #12 (Karra Brent); bench will also include a suitable selection to cover all of the other positions as well, varying from game to game so that [probably] everybody gets at least one chance to play, with both international experience and success so far during these qualifiers considered when deciding which players to use against the higher-ranked opponents rather than the lowest-ranked ones.

Style: Offensive, modifier = +3.5 ("A good offence is the best defence"...). This has actually been reduced slightly since DBC#45, when they used +4.0 instead, because team training since then has included a bit more emphasis on tightening up their defence.
They have also modified their planned formation slightly from the “traditional” Ursine one, which included a front row of at least 5 (normally arranged as 3 strikers & 2 wingers), with 2 midfielders, 2 backs, and a ‘Lynchpin’ (whose starting position was approximately be at the midpoint of an imaginary cross drawn between those other four non-forwards’ positions). Two of the strikers now drop back to a bit behind the line formed by the Centre Forward and the two wingers (who might move “in” by a little bit, as well), while the Lynchpin is now stationed noticeable closer to the backs than to the midfielders. “Joining the dots” would, looking at the pitch from above and placing the Bears’ goal-line at the bottom of the picture, give you [approximately] a stretched-sideways ‘W’ in front of a stretched-sideways ‘M’.

Penalties and direct free kicks are most commonly the responsibility of Karra Brent (#12) if she is on the field, or of Karra-Surey Norr-Vurra (#22), unless they are “last minute” ones (or within a few minutes of the game’s end, anyhows…) and the Bears really need another goal to turn a draw into a win or or even a loss into a draw: In the latter case this role is more likely to be assigned to Harroya o Sarrndale (#5) instead, because she is more likely to remain completely calm in such situations. Harroya is also the most likely player to take corners.
Alternatively, taking a free kick or penalty might sometimes be assigned to a different player instead if it was a foul on that player which led to us being awarded the right to that shot.

Bears Armed has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, and the set of ‘shirt numbers’assigned to this team’s players has been determined on that basis. The nunber '10' (i.e. eight) has been "retired", however, to honour the memory of two earlier wearers who particularly distinguished themselves.

Home grounds

1/. Wimbley Stadium:[/b] Located a few miles to the north-north-west of Council Groves (our capital city), to which it is connected by rail as well as by road, this stadium was built from scratch — on part of a former Confederal Army base’s site — shortly before the qualifiers for WC52 began as a replacement for the Bear-Belles original “home” at ‘Plumtrees Park’ which has now been demolished. Its current capacity is approximately 60'000 for Ursines: Fitting about 40’000 humans into the visiting fans' half should be possible, and so that's as many as we'll let into the country. Accommodation for visiting teams & their staffs will be provided in a new hotel, less than a mile away, which has staff who are accustomed to dealing with Humans as well as with Ursines. The various other hotels in that complex and those at Council Groves can now provide about 12’000 rooms at a time, at varying prices, although of course some of those may already have been booked by people who have nothing to do with the Cup. Accommodation (at a fairly basic level) for up to 15’000 supporters will be available, at reasonable prices, in students' residences for the National University’s campus in that city: if any more than all of those facilities put together can house want to attend a match then they’ll have to borrow space in the area’s remaining Army camp instead...
There are still no direct inter-regional flights into Council Groves, so that visitors will have to travel by way of one of our neighbours and then continue onwards by one of the limited number of "local" air-flights or by rail. (People planning to arrive by rail will still have to travel via the nation of Mikitivity ... which still exists IC as far as the Bears are concerned, even though OOC it unfortunately CTEd years ago, because not only are there some bits of jointly-agreed RP that I want to keep but also that nation — and its routes onwards into the outside world — are/were located on the Bears’ most “accessible” border.)
This site will be used for most, but not all, of the Belles' matches. (list to be added)
Chief groundkeeper: Birra’hrreua Lirrenbrock _ a female ‘Brock’ [i.e. anthropomorphic Badger][/i] from the Lirrenbrock sept within their clan [This sept has its territory not far from Wimbley]; she is in the third generation of her family to work here, but is the first of them to be in charge (although that role usually has been held by a Brock rather than by an Ursine).

2./ ‘NorthLands National Stadium’: Located at NorthPort, the most cosmopolitan city in The Ursine Northlands, this facility was originally built for use by the 'Northbears' WC49’s qualifiers. Unfortunately the place has since seen rather less use than was originally hoped, but it is still in good condition and will hold about 43’000 Ursines or over 60’000 humans (or, of course, proportionate numbers of a mixture of those two species) because it was deliberately built to be rather larger than 'Plumtrees Park' which was then the Mainland's 'national' stadium…
This site will be used for some of the Belles’ home games (list to be added), and also for some of any friendlies or matches in other Cups during this period as specified separately.
Foreigners coming to this stadium may either travel to the ‘Mainland’ and then continue hence via a set of ancient [& probably magical] ‘Gates’ that link the country’s two sections — completing their journey by either rail or riverboat after that — or take ship directly to NorthPort.
Chief groundkeeper: Gyrth’hrra ShipBear _ Clan = Seabear; female Ursine; age = 59, fur = light-medium brown; starts these qualifiers in her fourtenth year as boss here, after five years as an assistant; formerly a first-team goalkeeper with ‘NorthPort Voyagers’, who are one of this city’s two professional clubs, she had already started to study grounds-keeping before her retirement from play.

NOTES

Ursines, Ursomorphs, and Harr'aynau, generally retain their "youthful" vigour at least into their mid-thirties, which means that footballers can have longer playing careers than is the usual case for Humans: Those who are in their late twenties or early thirties -- as some members of this squad are -- are likely to be still [at least] as fit as they were in their early twenties.
Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate on average than humans of comparable ages, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. They do tend to have [slightly] poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole (although the members of both Clan Gunnar and the Sun Clan are generally an exception to this rule, and the eyesight of the latter group is actually often at [slightly] better-than-human levels instead), so long-distance passes & shots at goal will tend to be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their typical size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human — as well as a very skilled one — to tackle them successfully (or, at least, one who has reasonable experience of playing against Ursines…), which should balance that factor pretty well. They don’t jump very well, but then they’re generally rather taller than most Human players to start with so they shouldn’t need to jump as often in order to intercept [relatively] high shots...
Ursines are physically robust, of course, which means that they're much less likely than humans are to suffer injuries in falls or collisions. The females of this species are more even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will try to stay on their best behaviour not only in order to do well in this contest but also to impress upon the watching humans that Ursines aren't just "dumb beasts". They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain. ‘Northlanders’ are maybe not quite as "civilised" as the 'Mainlanders'… or, at any rate, that’s the traditional stereotype..
They generally do not perform the sort of extravagant ‘goal celebrations’ that are seen in some RL football today. A brief hug from a team-mate, or just a pat on the shoulder, is usually all that happens…
Unless our hosts at the match in question object, this team's members (including the designated substitutes for the match in question) will perform a [fairly short] ritual that's called the 'harrdiharr' on the pitch just before play begins... This is a traditional war-dance, meant to over-awe opponents, that has come to be a customary prelude for team games as well (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...).
As has now been seen during various tournaments, some of our fans like to take drums — and possibly also 'Urrs-horns' [which are similar to Alpenhorns), cow-horns, or other "musical instruments", too — along to the matches…

The team is accompanied by a number of sapient Ravens, who are there both to gather information about the rival sides and -- if & when visiting certain other nations -- to provide air cover in case of hostile waterfowl.

Vaishnavaria National Football Team “The Tigers”

Football In Vaishnavaria was popular since the Liberator war but it skyrocketed in popularity when a young 23 year old striker on the 1985 National team named Nahal Nahari led Vaishnavaria to dominance in many cups and led to them being the best football team in concord. Now Vaishnavaria for the First time is entering the Nationstates World Cup after an impressive BOF 84 performance. Now the team is better than they have ever been with star captain Alecsander Komich and legendary winger Zakaraya Kar as well as rock solid defender Kapil Nartar and a stellar defender core. So now we are here to release our team after YEARS of searching and evaluation.

Strikers: Nahari Jain and Nathaniel Grant
Nahari Jain is known for his incredibly agility,precise finishing and ability to go Aerial and make headers easily due to his 6'2 strong stature and his big vertical. He is also a great dribbler, great at controlling the ball and not doing anything fancy. He has an incredible first touch setting himself up for big plays. He can play any position and with any tactics. Nathaniel Grant is a great source of goals setting himself up in the right position to score goals. He is also an incredible passer and plays incredibly well under pressure. He shakes off defenders easily and has strong power as well as an accurate leg. He is often found near the last defender and can receive and control any pass. The only problem is that his dribbling needs some work as well as his headers.

Wingers: Alecsander Komich and Zakaraya Kar

The Wingers are both midfielders and Wingers. Alecsander Komich has the soul and skill of a soccer player. Nobody in the world can match his dribbling skills and moves as well as his incredible speed. He shakes off defenders easily and can shoot from anywhere under any pressure. He slips past defenders easily and can almost 100 percent make close shots and open shots. People compare him with Di Bradini and some even say he is better. On defense he is very aggressive paring well with Nik Rosario,Fred Belfast and Nahari Jain to form an Iron front at the Midfield. He can steal easily and doesn't fall for fakes. he has the cleanest slide tackle in all of Vaishnavaria. Zakaraya Kar is a elite winger picked up from Louisenai FC. He is incredibly fast with great dribbling skills and FREAKY fakes. He can make goals from anywhere and is great at finding passes to advance up field. Problem is under an aggressive defender his skills weaken and he can be too fancy or try to force a pass or a shot.

Center Midfielders: Fred Belfast and Nik Rosario.

You know an Anjan Kloss player made a pretty good quote after being crushed by Vaishnavaria in an LCFL warm up game. "They say Half of earth is water. The Rest is covered by the Vaishnavarian Midfielders". Nik Rosario is an incredible defender and a great passer Although he is not a source of goals. Nik Rosario works with winger Zakaraya Kar and Alecsander Komich to advance up the field quickly. He sets up passes to create big plays and he can find a gap anywhere. He is also a great and aggressive dribbler working his way into open space well. And in the Midfield he makes the opponent fight to get past him. He leads the VSL in interceptions and also leads the LCFL in interceptions. Fred Belfast has the same skill set as Rosario but he is a fast and skilled dribbler too. Belfast although is very foul prone drawing a record number of yellow cards in a single season. Rosario also has the same problem.

Defenders: Kapil Nartar,Ross Newman,Hastan Raystone and Kyle Russo

Kapil Nartar is one of the best defenders in Concord making scoring for opponents in LCFL impossible. In Vaishnavaria’s dominating win over Cerantium in LCFL Kapil Nartar and the defenders stopped every single attack that slipped past the midfield. Vaishnavarian defenders are one of the most feared and dangerous units in the world. Vaishnavarian defenders played well in multiple games in BOF 84 although falling short to 2 seed Restresas in the round of 16. The defenders have made a name for themselves in BOF 84 although injuries have plagued Hassan Raystone and Kyle Russo

Goalkeeper: Giovanni Marcilo

Giovanni Marcilo built a name for himself in the Tya Cup the state soccer tournament of Vaishnavaria. He came on as a sub and stole the job from the Cancardo state goalie and caught the eye of Scouts. He was again a sub to Star Vaishnavarian goalie Samson Muliger but Muliger went down with an injury before BOF 84 giving Marcilo a chance to shine and he did. He stopped countless goals and stopped many attacks even stopping game winning and stopping a couple game tying and game winning shots. It was decided that Marcilo would play for W97 and Muliger would sit as a reserve.

In the “BP System” or the “BP Way” (neither of those should be considered as something used officially or unofficially—if you wanted to term it as such as something of your own IC creation, go for it) the 3-4-1-2 is more literal than the manner in which it's used RL.
A discussion I had with another user made me contemplate providing a bit more concrete info on just who plays where when you see my lineups/bench for individual matches.
Defense: the three backs play tight to one another when the ball is in the middle or defensive thirds—they should really be termed LCB/CCB/RCB. The outside pair will never be wider than diameter of the center circle. They both man-mark (unless there is an IC tactical reason they don't) and the centerback zonal marks (usually helping one of the other two). The CB is technically a fullback as they have more freedom to move forward with the ball at feet. In a pinch, an emergency situation as a sub, they could all play any of the three positions.
Midfield: there is a good deal of set responsibility among the four across midfield, but the one thing that is always a constant is the wings are the workhorses, they cover more distance than the other players. I've hinted at or flat out said in match reports in the past that left wing (and they are 99.9% of time always left footed) is THE talismanic position in The System, as right fullback is considered (in BP) as usually the weakest position in a flat back four.
The two central midfielders usually have a specific role, one as the playmaker, the distributor and the other as the defensive, hard tackler, disruptor, ball winner.
The preferred position is listed first, but the ones that follow show how versatile that player is. For CM's the left/right designation is the stronger side for that player, but in theory almost anyone in midfield can play in the center of midfield.
Forward: Ah yes, the wild card element. In this case, the differentiation should be looked at from the perspective of another sport—basketball.
The three positions are almost adapted from the indoor game: the center forward, the target man, the number 9—the one who plays up front but facing away from the goal. Mostly it's men who hold down this role in the NT, although not always.
The striker—they want to be played into an area by a pass, or want room to get a touch before shooting. They face goal, but usually in or very close to the box.
The 'slot'--what a lot of people call the attacking midfielder or the CAM. This is a player that can dribble and create their own shot, or draw defenders and find others. There's a reason why this position can be played by a midfielder or a forward and the rationale usually depends on a chemistry between a pair or trio, but more recently this has reverted back to a forward spot.
In conclusion—BP should always be RP'd (of course at your discretion, and I will always adapt to anyone who RP's first if something that's not necessarily canon is mentioned) as--
*fast, short passing
*high lines & pressing
*offside trap
*technically sound
*not easily intimidated
*willing to play anyone, anywhere

National Anthem--"Hear Our Voices Commonwealth"

Nickname--since the end of the 1960's the National Team has been known as "The Bees", a period when the team's uniforms consisted of alternating black and gold hoops.
Previous to that time and subsequently through periods in the 1980's and 90's, the team was usually referred to by the county's national animal, the Elks; the women's National Team were always 'Lady Elks' until the advent of mixed gender play, which was revived during the Jenna Raven Cup and there are still numerous mentions of Elks in the supporters song “We are the Gold & Black”, which currently has close to 175 stanzas.

Colors--Black & Gold (while they are just 2 of the 5 main colors on the flag of Baker Park--Blue, Red and White are the others--black & gold have been closely associated in the nation's consciousness as representative of the country since its founding.)

The Captina Company Football Agency (TCCFA) controls all levels of football in the nation, issuing licenses to groups wishing to form teams. The Captina Company Super League consists of 14 teams playing every opponent once between April & June then following a 2 month break, play every opponent again between September & November.

The Captina Company National Football Team will make a second consecutive attempt, and fourth overall, to qualify for the World Cup. After winning seven and drawing once in WCQ 96, going into the stretch run with an opportunity to make the playoffs, Manager Jonas Yarborough hopes to build on the momentum from that outcome. Only one opponent took both matches against Captina as the Rosso e Oro won or drew at least once against every other opponent.

The Blue Cats are the national representatives of Katzeburg, participating in their first ever international competition with BOF 84. The team is nicknamed after an incredibly rare breed of the country's national animal, the cat, which was long-rumored to exist in small numbers in the Campbellnia National Park along the country's north-east coast. While Katzeburg is only a young nation, football has quickly picked up pace as the most popular sports on its shores. Initial hotspots of the sport were predominantly in the more industrial north of the nation, encompassing the nation's central capital Katzestadt, its heavy industrial city of Inverhaven, and the north-eastern city of Axmund.

The country's start-up national league, the Katzeburgian National League, has recently completed its first season, while the national team's first ever manager Becka Haberkorn, who was appointed following a handful of successful seasons overseeing an Inverhaven local side, guided the side to the final four of the Baptism of Fire in its first ever international competition, losing out to eventual champions Edsmontik in the semi-finals.

Haberkorn has developed a national pool from the leading players in the national league who are expected to take to the field at some stage over the long international campaign.

Captain Owen Levitt, who scored a crucial goal to secure the side a spot in the knockouts at the Baptism of Fire, will take the armband for the start of the campaign, but at 35 years old he may be looking to pass the role on to a deserving candidate.

Drake Wruck, the Katzestadt Rovers forward who led the domestic league scoring charts last season with 20 goals in 26 games, will be expected to lead the line after a strong Baptism of Fire campaign - netting seven goals across the seven games.

Meanwhile Katharine Howland, a young defender out of Barenwold who made a strong impression for the national side during the Baptism of Fire, is one for the future and a potential long-term left back for the Blue Cats.

Things you should know about the SRS:

Once upon a time, there was the Imperium of Squornshelous, a militaristic, totalitarian state which took great pride in its football team. Squornshelous entered every World Cup from the 5th edition to the 41st, successfully qualifying all but once, and winning the 31st edition of the tournament. After World Cup 41, however, a civil war erupted which ended with the nation divided in to the democratic Confederacy of Squornshelan Remnant States, and the shrunken but still dangerous Imperium holding onto its island heartland. Both nations disappeared from the international stage for the next 40 World Cup Cycles. The SRS returned to international football for Cycle 81, and was joined by the Imperium during Cycle 84. During Cycle 88, another revolt in the Imperium destabilized the government so much that the nation essentially collapsed, and its constituencies applied for membership in the Confederacy. It was also around this time that Squornshelous/SRS arrived in Atlantian Oceania, having previously competed as an Independent.

While the football team has a rich history from the old days, new successes have only come fairly recently. The team has qualified for five straight World Cups, but has only advanced past the Group Stage twice in the modern era, and has yet to win a knockout match since returning. They did finally claim a piece of international silverware at the 69th AOCAF Cup (nice), but have thus far failed to follow up that success. The Black-and-Reds qualified, but failed to earn a point in the first round of World Cup 94, and exited AOCAF Cup 70 at the quarterfinal stage. They then failed to qualify for World Cup 95 despite a fairly good record, resulting in Gareth Penrooke's dismissal, and did not make the knockout rounds at the ensuing Cup of Harmony, ensuring that caretaker manager Irfun Melkum would not have a chance of taking the job on a permanent basis.

From a wide open field that included names like former Algolia boss Dolvin Antal and former Polarian NT manager Iosef Miroshnichenko, among others, an eleventh hour dark horse ended up taking the race. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise that someone like Dudu Madeiros was given serious consideration. The Juven does, after all, have a major international trophy on his office shelf from the 18th Independent Associations Championship, as well as third place medals from the prior IAC edition, and the 84th Cup of Harmony. His reputation for recruiting fresh talent in the NT pool during his tenure with la Squadra is also a plus as the SCFA looks to find the Squornshelan national team's new identity. Despite some growing pains in adapting to Madeiros maximally aggressive 3-4-3, a pretty far cry from the more measured 4-2-3-1 that the Black-and-Reds had employed for over a decade, their first outing under the new boss was a resounding success. For the second time, a new SRS manager hoisted a regional trophy in their debut tournament with the team, winning the Inaugural ARC two cycles after claiming the penultimate AOCAF Cup. Taking the same roster to the subsequent Second International Confederations Cup, the team was also victorious at that tournament. After a disappointing run overall during Cycle 96, with the team again failing to qualify, and falling short of expectation at both the Cup of Harmony and Arrosian Regional Championship, Madeiros now finds himself very much under pressure to perform. Though the Black-and-Reds now find themselves outside the top-32 in the latest rankings, the expectation is still qualification, especially since the team still made Pot 2 for the draw. Anything short of a trip to Pasarga and Eastfield Lodge will likely result in a search for a new manager.

The basic information...

To start off, the Republic of Tero al Disco is a democratic republic in the southern hemisphere of the region of Hive, its capital being the port city of Tero al Disco Capital. It consists of a total of eleven provinces, and its most important cities include Capital, Inticuna, Caamaño, Salto, San Miguel, among others. Although, the country is centered around the capital. This is reflected in a number of its aspects, including football, where the "national league" was played only with teams from the capital for nearly a hundred seasons, before finally federalising in season 1992. Since then, there have been exactly zero teams outside the Capital and its surrounding that have lifted the title, and all of the top clubs are from that area.

It was definitely a spectacular debut cycle for the Teros. First, getting third place in the Baptism of Fire, which already seems impressive enough. Then, in the World Cup Qualifiers, Alfredo Félix's side ended up in fourth place, only two points away from the playoffs, after getting eliminated with a 1-0 loss in Cathair against Audioslavia in the second-to-last round of the qualifiers. Those two competitions made them get invited for the 88th Cup of Harmony in Tumbra in which they reached the semifinals after knocking out Baker Park and Pasarga along the way. They went up against Saterun (who they already faced in the WCQs and in the COH group stages), but the Teros were 2 minutes away from reaching the final until Saterun's Ndidi Tamaro scored the winner, sending the Teros to the playoff for the bronze medal, which they would lose 4-2 to a far better Cabo Azure team.

With the World Cup having expanded to 48 teams, a promising Tero al Disco side coming from that Cup of Harmony run had now higher chances of making their debut in the finals. The first half of the qualifiers meant a marvellous performance for the Teros, with the team actually taking the lead for a number of rounds whilst competing with teams like Yuezhou, Tikariot, and a very promising Kirungabi side. However, the next eight matches left a shakier image of the team, with them losing 3 out of the 4 matches in total that they were defeated. Still, after a last-day 2-1 loss to the Ochre Islands (with the Teros having already clinched a spot among the top 3 by round 16), they were able to get one of the 48 slots to Pasarga and Eastfield Lodge, qualifying automatically as one of the best third-placed teams. With the WCQs left behind, now the million dollar question is: how will they fare in this World Cup?

THE STADIUMS FOR THE QUALIFIERS

Estadio de la República, Capital (cap. 64.400)
(home to all teams in the capital and historic home of the national team)

República was built during ATF season 1962 with the purpose to create a definitive and modern home for the national team (which back then used of using the top clubs' stadiums, which averaged a capacity of 25.000-30.000 people, and were considered outdated for international fans), and also to host regional games' events (records of which have been lost to time). Since then, it has been transformed into the cathedral of Terense football that it is now. It hosts the national cup's final, the Copa de la República, named after the stadium itself; and many teams choose to host their games there. It originally featued a capacity of 74.600 due to having common benches in the seated areas, that were later replaced by individual seats. It features a fully terraced stand for the home fans, as the three others have terraces at the bottom and are all-seated at the top. It's about the only stadium in Tero al Disco to actually be fit for international standards...

...That doesn't mean it's going to make the match experience worse for fans. One positive thing about it is that it's still designed for a great atmosphere. Being in the shape of something of a pointy oval, since it also features a track, as it was built to also host athletics events, it has one fully terraced stand, as the other ones have a terraced bottom tier, and a seated top tier, which always makes for an electrifying atmosphere for big matches, where you can see 60 thousand people jumping and moving around. Some Terense engineers, executives and fans have suggested that it be turned into an all-seater, but whoever's in charge of it have refused, for the same reasons I mentioned in the sentence before.

Due to the league being closed to teams outside Tero al Disco Capital for 100 years, the "big 2" in Tero al Disco, Gimnasia y Bala and Nacional Terense, as well as the "best of the rest" are all located in or around the capital, so that's how it always hosts the big fixtures. The Estadio de la República is located in the center of Tero al Disco city, opposite the runway of the Renato di Bernardino International Airport and a 15 minute bus ride from the Plaza de los Jacarandás, which is considered to be the center point of the city itself. Note that Tero al Disco (city) does not feature a metro/underground system, with a sizable amount of its citizens commuting and moving around in its (average) bus system that extends throughout the city's conurbation.

Estadio Mundialista del Sur "Candelario Gómez", Caamaño (cap. 33.151)
(home to all teams in Caamaño, mainly Sportivo Caamaño)

The Estadio Mundialista del Sur "Candelario Gómez", colloquially shortened to just the Mundialista or Mundialista de Caamaño, was built by a wealthy Caamaño businessman to try and host NT games, during ATF season 1933. That businessman's name was Candelario Gómez, although the stadium wouldn't receive Candelario's name until years later. Despite being bigger than the stadiums from the Capital in which matches were traditionally played (with a capacity of 37.735 standing fans), the ATF gave more preferrence to the Capital teams, and especially with República being built later on, the Mundialista del Sur only hosted a few games in decades. It features three fully terraced stands and one fully seated stand.

As a rule of thumb, there are no underground systems to be found anywhere in the country, but any decent city will have a healthy bus system where citizens may go around. The Mundialista isn't located smack in the centre of Caamaño, unlike many of the top stadiums in Tero al Disco, but rather in the suburbs, a 20-minute ride away from its main church; churches are normally used as a reference point to talk about a point zero in almost every Terense city or town......that's why it's mentioned.

Estadio Marcelo Sassari, Inticuna (cap. 24.900*)
(home to all teams in Inticuna)

Built by the city council of Inticuna, with more or less the same reason as the Estadio Mundialista, in more or less the 1920s, unfortunately this one has never hosted NT games. This was until the ATF arbitrarily decided to make them do it as part of that federalisation program. Why didn't they bother? Either the same reason as the Caamaño stadium or we don't know. At least here, the city council have attempted to make some renovations for international fans that aren't accustomed to the match-going experience here in Tero al Disco, and now the east stand is being expanded, the stadium will go from having a capacity of 20.700 to a capacity of 24.900. That renovation is scheduled to end by the same time the first half of WCQs end.

Estadio Municipal, Moncloa
(home to the top two teams in Moncloa: Moncloa (duh) and Laureles)

The Estadio Municipal, as it's name says (the municipal stadium), was also built, owned and operated by another city council. This time it's Moncloa's, a city located inside the greater Capital area, an hour away from the capital itself. It was another built to host international matches in the ATF decade of the 1950s, with an original capacity of 29.000. Gradually, some of the terraces were replaced by seats to try and comply with what were alleged to be international standards. Tactics
Formation: 4-3-3

In attack, Darmen will employ one of two tactics: the first involves the team playing down the flanks while the second is a possession oriented short-range passing style that closely resembles tiki-taka. The later tactic is normally only employed against weaker opponents or when Darmen has a multi-goal lead and involves connecting many passes together to slowly advance the ball towards the opponents 18-yard box. It is not uncommon for 30+ passes to be completed in the sequence, especially against weaker opponents.

Darmen's primary tactic however is a heavy emphasis on flank play, with the wide midfielders (also referred to as flankers in Darmen) being the linchpin of Darmen's attack. Upon gaining possession, Darmen will look to distribute the ball to one of the two wide midfielders as quickly as possible. After receiving the ball, the wide midfielders will look to advance the ball as far down the flanks as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the forwards and the central midfielders will crash the box, hoping to be on the receiving end of the wide midfielder's cross. The wide midfielder (or sometimes even the fullback) on the opposite flank will linger behind waiting to collect the cross should it overshoot the box. While scoring via headers is the primary goal, a player may also look to score by volleying or half-volleying the ball if they're in open space. Should the first attempt at goal not be collected by the goalkeeper, Darmenis are more than willing to take advantage of the ensuing chaos in the box and poach a goal as well. If the wide midfielder's path forward down the flank is blocked, they are not averse to cutting inside and taking a shot on goal themselves.

Defensively, the defenders have one job... to defend. They rarely venture out of their own half, but if they do it will only be one of the fullbacks (see above). Darmen will employ zonal marking when facing the counter-attack and man marking in all other situations.

Team Personality
The Darmeni team will never argue with the referee. Indeed, if anything needs to be brought to the attention of the referee it will be done by either the Captain or Vice-Captain in a respectful manner (or to the fourth-official by the Manager). With regards to foul/dirty play, the Darmeni team will not provoke, or retaliate against any opposition player. Darmeni's expect each team to keep to itself and deal with its own trouble makers; any opposition player who attempts to prevent a conflict by pushing or pulling a Darmeni away from the scene will be promptly told off, as that is the duty of the Darmeni Captain.

Nonetheless, Darmen will play in a relatively aggressive manner. Tackles will be conducted in a way which ensures the opponent ends up on the ground, but causing injury will be avoided as much as possible. On set pieces, Darmenis will stand their ground and will not be easily pushed around. However, they will not engage in hugging. In fact, if any opposing player tries to push past them, it is not uncommon for the Darmeni player to feign resistance before simply stepping aside and watching as the opposing player stumbles past on their way to ground. This occasionally backfires however, as the referee may mistake the incidence as having been a foul in the box.

As the 2030s open, the Eshian Owls have a lot to look forward to. World Cup 96 saw them find their way back into the top 32, and while it may have been another 0-0-3 run, they still made it, proving they could be one of the best teams in the world in the final 32-team World Cup.

The island nation of Aleirave is a rather small one, with a population of barely 50 thousand, located by a sea they know as the Retakono Me'a, or the sea of mystery. The only islands that were anywhere near them seemed to sink under the sea a couple years back, leaving them as the most isolated nation in the region of Anaia.

The nation of Aleirave was originally founded by Fyodor Tereyev, who was a puteshestvennik (or "traveller") from Klysevia, about 350 years ago. His descendants ruled the island up until the year 2023, when Alexandr Tereyev was shot and killed by a lone gunman in a peaceful protest. Since then, the island has been ruled as an Special Administrative Unit of Eshialand, effectively acting as its own democratic nation within a nation.

Where are the Seagulls now?

Another year, another meh run. Oh well, what was to be expected?

For Haulafo Paka'ula, a lot, actually. This team was the lifeblood of the nation, and they were faltering. However, hope was not lost. As the 2020s gave way to the 2030s, a new prospect appeared: there were now 16 additional slots in the World Cup Finals, bringing it to 48 nations. 16 new nations will now be at the top of the world, and one of those could well be the Seagulls. Chances like these don't happen often (in fact, the NS World Cup has never expanded like this before!), and wasting it would be a pity. It was the Seagulls' chance, and it was time to prove that they could play football.

The Old Grounds are the original home pitch of the Seagulls team, and one that's hosted impromptu football matches for the people of the island ever since time immemorial. Recently a few seats have been installed to help make things more comfortable for attendees, but the original feel of this field remains the same as always: a quaint reminder of island life.

Some fans have a lot of doubt in Haulafo Paka'ula at this point, but the team has none. He's the original architect of this team and a father to the family they've made together. He's embraced the Aleiravan spirit of quick, agile football, where positions don't really matter so much as making everybody mesh together as a single unit. While in the past he may have doubted himself to the point of resigning before 2027's World Cup Qualifying, he's back in business and ready to prove to the world that this island really can be among the best.

When Haulafo Paka'ula resigned, it was Ivan Shakarov who stepped up to fill the void, and results-wise, he did a pretty good job of it, leading them to a 6-3-1 first half before Haulafo took the reins back. While Manager Paka'ula may not have wanted to call him back, there was no denying that he could be the missing link to make this good team a great one, so he gave him a second change to manage the team, albeit in an assisting capacity. While he may not have nearly as much experience at the international level as Paka'ula does, he's made waves before, and he can make waves again, and hopefully can bring the absolute best out of this team.

Copa Rushmori heroes set sights on Pasarga/Eastfield Lodge World Cup

So, Elmyia target World Cup qualification and expectations of the squad have never been higher. The Copa Rushmori saw Elmyia surprise most as they beat regional big guns Sargossa in the final to bring home silverware for the first time ever.

Expect Pau Porras to stick with more of the same as his side head into the ever grueling qualification schedule. The tournament saw several shifts in lineup as Jackie Froggatt's place in the starting eleven was challenged by the young and upcoming Jesca Blair, whilst more function players like Nico Spalding came in to strengthen the midfield. Froggatt will likely have more of a role in those tricky qualification games where Elmyia are obliged to break down low blocks, but should they make it to the main event it may well be her last time out on the world stage.

Porras is likely to stick to his guns tactically, probably having already modified as much as he is willing to in order to be successful. The main shift has been a closer paying of attention to how Elmyia will go about pressing, with more chances given to players who are willing and diligent runners. Previously he had been struggling to square the circle of playing an incredibly gung-ho side, whilst trying not to allow his side to be porous. Elmyia had often fallen down when oppositions had been allowed to turn the ball over and run at a defence that was spread and had vacated the space. Being unwilling to hold more players back, or to select those with more defensive specialisms, he brought in players who could put more pressure on the ball.

It paid off spectacularly in Yuezhou, with the hosts and Nyowani Kitara beaten aside as his bold team choices paid off with the biggest single achievement in Elmyian sporting history.

Elmyia have named a much wider squad going into qualifying this time, with a pool of 31 players for Porras to choose from. Not all will travel in all instances, but this will give him the option to start blooding some fringe players in games that Elmyia largely expect to win.

Players who made way previously might hope this proves the path back in, Sofia Katsouranis found herself cast aside last time out and will want to add to her impressive 96 caps, and 40 goal contributions. Having failed to make the Di Bradini Cup, some young talent will be looking to prove itself, particularly the talented Tamsin Rowe in central midfield and young winger Scogli Parcheggiatore, who was let down by those around him.

The area of the side that Porras looks to be trying to settle quickly is the midfield. International football is often settled by who controls the middle of the park and the trio of Marinos, Simmons and Spalding seemed to function very well at the Copa. Valentina Galli and Aaron McLoughlin will all also fancy their chances of competing for a spot.

Showcasing all the flavours of the Constellation - that's what we're here for! Instead of picking an all-star team of the various territories, selected territories can pit their best XI against the multiverse, one home, one away. Of course, it's long been a matter of debate as to which territory has the best national team, the best clubs, the best league, etcetera. And this is one way to figure out roughly how good they are. Not every territory will be showcasing their talent, though.

The first nation on the phone was Irithoren, of course, but they declined for various reasons: it's baseball season, they're already ranked via the Campionato Esportiva - that was the reason they were called first, they already have an established team - but ultimately the organisation decided against it.

The second territory they tried to schedule was Ndugutisaoren, the only territory with a league that's seen vaguely on par with the Ko-orenite Top League. While the Ko-orenite pyramid goes down far deeper and has a higher ceiling, the Ndugutisaoren 'Ligi ya Soka Baina ya Miji' pits the clubs of the nine cities against one another and the idea is that a combined team should not disappoint. Under the scorching sun they've become one of the brightest stars of the Constellation with an exceptional HDI and ecological track record.

Up next was Isidoren. A sport-loving place with a massive twenty-eight team "Liga de Estrelas Amarelas y Dizenove Cruces", its various linguistic, cultural, ethnical, and religious groups that ultimately figure out their differences are not more significant than their similarities. After all, those outside Isidoren might not realise there are any differences at all. They will not play on Sundays.

The third territory that will show up to try out this World Cup qualification thing is Shahrbanoren. Some might say there are slight links between them and Pasarga, but much like how half the Multiverse seems to speak English, that's probably just coincidence. Eight teams make up the league - this year - as plenty of clubs spring up, join play for a few years, then die down. Six or so clubs are part of the establishment, though, backed by massive industry, the strong government, or sheer will of the community. One of the faster growing economies of the Constellation, though some doubts remain both about the accuracy of the numbers and the benevolence of its leadership. The future, however, is incredibly bright.

Up next is Tarören, not entirely new to this kind of thing, but with no official matches under their belt. A very strong force in the Constellation with a large population at just under two million (though with about half a million more under their control), diverse economy, and one of the larger single cities (visit beautiful Tergan! Or visit the smaller, but prettier Sülüzer) and an impressive domestic sports scene. It's expected that they'll pack a punch in international football as they have in ice hockey.

We're not running out of territories yet, as the next one's Cang Prathoren. A founding member of the Constellation, they then left, and only reappeared a short time ago after settling domestic politics, the coastal city state's three districts will combine to again become more than the sum of its parts. Each district still has its own leadership, but tax codes, foreign policy, and the like are at least all unified under a single flag. Visitors might recognise there's not a single city centre: getting their start as various fishing and harbour towns, each developed their own centre as the sprawls met in the (tiny) hinterland. Football's important but sailing is where they excel.

Chanmingoren is a hardline meritocratic territory and quite militantly so - to the point where Ko-oren sometimes asks them to tone it down and not exacerbate cracks already apparent between classes. At four and a half million souls, they're the second-largest territory in the Constellation and they throw their weight around. There's (some) money in the league, an impressive three-layer pyramid, that's pumping out increasing numbers of talent.

Ostfalen und Hinterpommoren is an odd one out: hearing that other places joined, it seems they didn't want to be left behind and now they're part of the Constellation by association. Not quite meritocratic (rather quite democratic, as they say, but we're not buying even that), and hardly concerned with their CO2 output, the territory is hard at work to get in line with the rest, as they have more or less forced themselves to do.

Lastly, there's Uruashoren, a mountainous, distant territory with a serviceable football system. Their home advantage is significant given the altitude and difficulty of travel. Otherwise they're the one question mark on the list as to how good they are.
