The Valanora Footballing Association proudly presents the fifty-eighth edition of the Di Bradini Cup, the twenty-sixth edition of which to be held in the Valanora. Recognized as direct successor to the original Under-21 World Cup run by Total n Utter Insanity, this is also the 79th Under-21 World Cup.

This tournament is named after Starblaydia's most-famous player, the first person to score for Starblaydia's own Under-21s, currently the fifth-highest goalscorer in Starblaydia's history, World Cup Winner, member of the World Cup Hall of Fame and one-time President of the World Cup Committee: Simeone Di Bradini. We present, for your participation: The 58th Di Bradini Cup, a.k.a. The 79th Under-21 World Cup!

To sign up for the tournament, a roster must be posted as your entry. Reserve posts or pure signup posts will be ignored. A maximum of two entrants from a single user is allowed, with any puppet needing to be declared upon their signing up for the tournament.

Tactical Set-Up
Tumbra will usually set up in a 4-3-3 formation. The alternate formation is a 4-2-3-1. The team's general strategy is to sit back, soak up attacks, then break on the counter. Four-defender formations are seen as the gospel and orthodoxy in Tumbra; three or five-defender formations haven't really picked up steam in the country, only being resorted to in the midst of play.

In defence, Tumbran orthodoxy is to have a four-player defence; wingbacks in this system are expected to start attacks after the central defenders dispossess marauding attackers. The ideal Tumbran wingback is fast, able to pass, and float into midfield when out of possession to help regain possession; in practical terms, one wingback stays back while one floats into midfield. The central defenders are usually split into two; clean-shorts and dirty-shorts, with one focusing on distribution and the other on dispossession.

The midfield is the crux of Tumbran footballing philosophy, with the defensive midfielder being the most important position on the team. The midfield traditionally has three roles; destroyer, pacesetter and creator. In any case, the more advanced midfielder typically serves as the creator. On very rare occasions where Tumbra seeks to take control of the game for themselves do they play with an outright attacking midfielder; this shift away from the 4-2-3-1 has been the major innovation of the Michael Campbell era so far, and signals a declining reliance on the status of the purely attacking midfielder.

In attack, creative freedom is granted; though history has usually shined its brightest lights on goalscoring wingers. This usually privileges players who cut in on the wing to overload the box, with crosses a secondary option. Crosses may be delivered by either the wingback or the winger; the wingback is preferred. The ideal Tumbran forward is lithe and agile regardless of which side they play on; finishing ability is respected far more than individual flashes of brilliance, though unsurprisingly players with flair are remembered far better than those who aren't.

On a sliding scale between workhorses and technical finesse, Tumbrans as a whole lean towards the former, though obviously with exceptions. Gamesmanship, time-wasting and riling up the opposition are par for the course; but Tumbrans will never directly break any rules. Tumbrans are pretty naff at set-pieces; they prefer scoring from open play.

He essentially ate his way out of the starting job after minicamp. He was placed on a restrictive diet and given an exercise regimen to lose weight.

He's a speedy player who can join the attack when he sees an opportunity. Not the most vocal leader, but when he speaks, his teammates listen.

He's more talkative than Duggar, and he's more likely to get in someone's face. He's a fanatic about nutrition and working in the gym. He's trying to work with Beauregard to get him to take his fitness more seriously.
4 Micah Grayson, 20, 6-foot-2, 225 pounds.
He's a human tank. Not the fleetest afoot, but he makes up for it with anticipation and intimidation. Off the pitch, he's one of the gentlest souls on the squad.
5 Chris Hannah 19, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds.
He's young and enthusiastic, and sometimes overcommits when he's marking another player, but has quickness enough to make up for it against most opponents.
6 Jan Lloyd, 20, 6-foot-4, 230 pounds.
He's aggressive in a similar fashion to Grayson, but has less skill with the ball and is more prone to draw cautions and red cards.
13 Tyler Aguirre, 21, 5-foot-8, 170 pounds.
He's there to provide some experienced depth. Had reconstructive surgery on his right ACL that slowed down a once pacey player.

Abdullah occupies the right flank in Sarzonia's formation. He's fairly pacey and has good ball skill, but isn't afraid to mix it up with aggressive defenders and defensive midfielders.
9 Cristian Salcedo, 19, 5-foot-7, 160 pounds.
He plays defensive midfielder and is known as an aggressive pest. He'll draw cards for everything from dissent to scrapping with opponents.
10 Kodee Barker, 21, 5-foot-10, 155 pounds.
The playmaking midfielder, free-kick and corner-kick taker. Also is the designated penalties taker. If there were a match where both Duggar and Bailey left the pitch, she would don the captain's armband.

She's often a substitute when the team needs an offensive spark in the midfield, but the coaching staff don't use her in situations where defence is called for.

He's a defensive midfielder substitute. He stays on the players bench if the team need offence.

FORWARDS
12 Tim Person, 19, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds.
Person is the skilled forward, one who can drift back into midfield to support them in setting up the attack. If they needed to, he could fill Barker's role.
15 Noel Jackson, 18, 6-foot-5, 225 pounds.
He's big and brawny and is the pure striker on the team. He all but lives in the weight room and most defenders don't wanna deal with him when he goes up for a header or tries to establish position in a scrum.
16 Joe Williams, 20, 6-foot, 200 pounds.
Williams has some of the ball skill of Person with a smidge of the physicality of Jackson, but isn't enough of either to warrant a starting spot with both players on the squad.
19 Kendra Taylor, 20, 5-foot-9, 165 pounds.
She has a knack for free kicks and penalties that's useful in situations where the team have had to employ substitutes. She might be one to look out for in extra time should the Junior Stars make it that far.

He's fulfilling this role alongside his day job, which is being a part of Josip Radonic's coaching staff at Litala 93, fresh off the back of a league-and-cup double-winning campaign. Spiridonovic was a hardworking player who maximised his talents and eventually got capped by the national team. The FSM will be hoping he can instil a similar work ethic in the next generation of potential national team players, with his exposure to domestic football on a day-to-day basis allowing him to scout players up-and-down the country. He has gone for a fully domestic-based squad, similar to the senior side at the Copa Rushmori.

Tactics:
Manager has been instructed to retain the slightly aggressive 3-5-2 formation the senior squad uses in order to build familiarity and consistency from the U-21 squad to the senior squad. This formation is intended to maximize the wingbacks' strengths without neutralizing the rest of the team's impact. The young wingbacks' stamina allows them to go forward and cautiously assist in attack to create goal-scoring chances while still being able to get back and provide numbers to stop opposition scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, the Centerbacks, Central Midfielders and Forwards create a solid pillar through the heart of the pitch that is intended to both be an alternative route to goal scoring and a multi layered obstruction to the opponents.

Notes:

It appears that the ZUSP (Zenician Uniformity in Sporting Project) has worked surprisingly well. The Youthful Survivors went from crashing out in the group stage in the 56th edition to being a goal away from the quarterfinals in the 57th edition. Consolación Regina and her staff have received the vote of confidence from the FZF and Ministry of Sports and have more control now over the creation of the squad. That would explain why there are significantly more 18 year olds in this squad versus last editions: Regina hopes that the injection of youth will mix with the experience of the older players and lead to a deeper run this time.

The young Starsian side is a very skilled team with a very high team chemistry and morale combining it with their quick paced game they are an opponent for all teams to watch out for.
They play in a 4-3-3 which through the match can be changed to various other formations suiting the game that they play however they are an offensive team loving to have possesion of the ball.

Star players

Anna Schwarz
A strong goalkeeper who is all physical power and is an impressive person, she is extremely tall for a girl with her 1,94 meters shes comparable to any male goalkeeper.
Her strong points are her good saves and willingness to take a risk, she had the most clean sheets of all youth pro teams last season and its only natural she was selected as first goalkeeper.
Her ability to organize and lead the defense is much needed and we expect good things from this up and coming player.

Leonora Snowden
Leonora already made her debut on the pro level in the Superleague with Mount Olympus where she is currently playing and is one of the most important youth players on that team.
Her endurance and speed aswell as defensive capabilities give her the ability to easily read the offensive patterns of her opponents and anticipate making her a valued asset on any defense.
Besides that she can also move up and attack often being known for the good long passing on her side.

Johanna Koch
Johanna Koch has recently made her mark on Starsian football playing an important role as new rookie in the starting line-up of the Storm Wolves together with Sarah Huber, she gave the deciding assist in the final match to make her team champions and this girl has great potential to become strong midfielder.
While shes not exactly a leader on the field her hard work and dedication to the team never go unnoticed and her teammates often refer to her as ''the silent force'' that works hard but is not a person you'll often find in interview or at the front pages and she hopes now to challenge for a spot in the senior team after a good season and hopefully a good tournament.

Iris Olivier
Iris Olivier has proven herself very important already assuming a leading role in her team Amazona's young offensive line and she made her debut in the senior NT and scored a goal in the Campionato Esportiva 38 they got eliminated the first match after the group stages.
While she has not become a starter yet in the senior team she is the undoubted leader of this U21 side, she is the personification of the future of Starsian football, speed, skill, technique she has it all and some people even go as far as to compare her to Kira Blade although she personally doesn't like that comparison, hopefully a good u21 tournament could see her become a starter in the next world cup qualifiers.

The keeper position for this team looks to be one that is going to rest almost solely in the hands of Propst, as the two behind him have not seen minutes at all for their respective clubs, although the female half of the Rinaldi twins does show extreme promise that she might yet one day be in net for the national team, that potential is still yet to be reached or tested. However the CAP keeper has played first team minutes for the Hurricane and is seen as their number one choice moving into next season and if a team of that pedigree trusts him to be their starter, then the Young Marauders should be able to as well. He has the talent for it for a good sense of where to be to stop most shots and the reflexes to get to those that he ends up not being in position for, making him a very solid choice and with high hopes of impressing enough to get consideration into the next senior national team pool.

In the defense, there is going to be a lot of hope and prayer that sheer raw talent will be enough to see the day through, as almost the entire crop of players are still in their club's reserve teams or as a depth option only for the first team, with only Krogsæter having seen considerable minutes with the first team and so he is a natural pick to one of of the starters. Flanking him will be the other two players who have seen some time with their domestic side's senior team, even if it is not significant, as Nikolaisen and Daecher get that call, both with the ability to float out wide as fullback if the formation is changed during the game. That flexibility and the experience could prove very useful for a team who are going not known for their defensive sturdiness, so being adaptable is quite a boon, and why a handful of out and out fullbacks were included in the roster and not just defenders who can only play in the center of the defense.

There is a lot of talent in the midfield and it gives a feeling of confidence for the national team fans that they will be able to go from strength to strength as the older players age out and the youth team ages into the senior team. At this competition though, Hovland is a fiesty winger on the left and has been getting spot starts with United, using his pace and ball control to play well when given an opportunity. The same can be said for Zack Sjöberg at CA Paulinthal, Oalf Myrhe at Soldarian, as well as Markus Jaeger at Mar Sara, with the first and last getting quite a bit of playing time as midfielder maestros. Chell Meadows and Eric Forsberg are also at Mar Sara and have looked quite promising as well, with Chell looking a bit more so with the ability to play in the middle or up front and adds a bit of a different sort of player with her dynamic pace and playmaking capabilities.

The strike force is lead by a pair of elder players for the competition and who have seen action with their respective first teams back with their clubs. Despite their considerable skill and leadership, the biggest intrigue is Drake RInaldi, who looks to have a similar build to the legendary captain Laborious Hawk but prefers to play further up the field. Moved to Club ESF with his fraternal twin Tanya, and both look to have huge upside to their game and could well see the senior national team if they develop into that potential. Whether he gets a look in over the pair of Hondo FC strikers off the bench though might be a question of how well the team is performing in the match and in the group stage as a whole.

Tactics
Hahn is a classicalist who sticks to the essence of Veilfaltigian football embodying the possession style. Playing a straightforward 4-3-3 with a holding midfielder, it is a style which is defensively sound and solid while possessing the ammunition to be attacking when needed. In the national team, the role of the fullbacks is one of utmost importance. The Veilfaltigian fullbacks unlike those of other nations choose to hang back to prevent quick counter-attacks on the wings. The general approach of the team is slow buildup using the midfield engine while ensuring that this does not result in any unforeseen goals going against us.
The defenders tend to stick back including the fullbacks as they act as a surety to prevent any counterattacks. The midfield is a critical part as the holding midfielder forms the link between the players upfront and the defence. The midfield will often keep possession amongst themselves looking for an opening to distribute the ball too. In this style of play, we often see the midfield move the ball back to the defence in case of a lack of space or passing opportunities upfront. To facilitate the possession style, the role of the wingers is primarily to make runs on the wings creating space. Occasionally they will be joined by the fullbacks in offense however this is a rare and more desperate measure. The centre forward plays an important role in dropping back to link with the midfield on occasion playing one-twos and creating space for the wingers.

The darkest and heaviest (musically, not physically) team of the DBC is back. The Snowy Owlets' last outings at the DBC have been less than spectacular, so the Tikariotian Premier League once more is sending its best youngsters, including some dual nationals.

The fans of the Snowy Owls/Owlets also deserve particular mention. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick-off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. There were little to no expectations on Rafa Klopfer’s Goldhorns two years ago at the Di Bradini Cup - and then came one of the country’s best-ever results at this level, with the squad fighting out a high-octane semifinal with eventual winners Tumbra before defeating host nation Valanora to claim the bronze medal. Klopfer continues in his post as U21s boss, then, ahead of the 58th edition of the youth tournament, and of course now there is a bit more expectation on the team that will be returning 12 players from the 3rd place finish. Many of the key players - Uwe Seidl, Arnold Apel the biggest names - have moved on from this level, being capped by the senior Goldhorns, while some others have decided they want one more crack at this tournament. By far the biggest break for the side was Veljko Vadimic announcing his decision to participate in the tournament - while his club Metropola Borograd weren’t necessarily pleased with Vadimic not getting a rest over the summer, Vadimic himself claims ‘unfinished business.’ Joining the 12 returnees will be several players who have been stars for their clubs in recent times, with forward Ben Bing and midfielder Mats Winter being perhaps the biggest names amongst them. Klopfer’s boys will line up in an offensive-minded 4-2-3-1, looking to use the strengths of their excellent offensive players to the utmost advantage. While Klopfer grants his attackers plenty of freedom, and it’s common to see the wingers particularly regularly switching flanks, his defensive structure is much more solid and one can see influences from his own days as a player for the senior Goldhorns in the tactical setup.

A starting player for FC Teussen Stelburg, he’s joined by youth academy product Benedikt Tannenberg, who has quite high expectations from the Teussen supporters. Rolf Gellner also returns, but watch out for highly-rated Dejan Mesko behind him to challenge for the starting spot in this role. The core of the midfield is basically all-new for the Goldhorns. In the pivot, forward-thinking Lutz Wolff is joined by Marzig’s Mats Winter. Winter is one of the most talked about prospects in the country at the moment, looking ahead to IFCF football in his first full season starting for Marzig. He tends to be a very defensive-minded midfielder, even dropping back into a CB position at times, but is known also for his athleticism and his spatial awareness. Typically, the Goldhorns and big clubs in the Meisterschaft like to play a midfield destroyer in this position, but Winter is known for solid football IQ and an eye for exactly the right moment to progress play. If he can add some extra physicality to his game, he will be simply a superstar. Xôrgé Lé Méjî is an interesting case - a dual national, the son of Farf refugees who arrived in St. Jakob, the #10 has absolutely dominated for Rulandea Karlsbrunnen at the Regionalliga level. He has shattered the club records for goals and assists, and many have pegged him as a transfer target for some of the biggest clubs in the country. However, playing in a Rulandea team that is not quite on the level of some of the other clubs in the division, and seemingly far above most of his teammates, some have questioned whether he can really make the next step. This is a player with a sky-high ceiling, but also a low floor. Relentless on the ball, and relentlessly seeking opportunities to attack, Lé Méjî operates as something of a ‘shadow striker,’ ready to pounce on any opportunity. This tournament is almost sure to define the next steps in his career, with the young man looking towards a big transfer to continue his development.

If you had to pick one area that will define the Goldhorns’ success in this tournament, it will be in attack. Veljko Vadimic being in this team is ridiculous, one of the top players in the Meisterschaft and securing the #7 shirt already in the senior national team at such a young age, he is practically a cheat code for the Goldhorns. One of the key parts of the run to 3rd place last time around, Vadimic chose to return for his final youth level tournament because of what he calls ‘unfinished business.’ Steffen Berlin might not be quite as dynamic as Vadimic, but the young man, once part of FC Teussen Stelburg’s youth setup before heading for Pasarga, was one of the bright stars at DBC 57 and can only be expected to step up from that level. Dusan Korlikov and Tomas Kohout, meanwhile, are both formidable reinforcements - Korlikov starting already for Zvezda, Kohout the talk of the town at Olympia. Up front, while the loss of Uwe Seidl will definitely be felt, Ben Bing has been excellent for VfL Reinbronn in recent times and is trusted so much in Reinbronn that the club did not purchase a replacement for sold forward Michael Burger, instead putting Bing right into the starting XI. Timotej Zakaijev has continued his excellent trajectory with Vrnovo’s youth teams, and is expected to make his senior debut this year. Perhaps the only real controversial selection is Veselin Oresnik - and that is no mark on the young Chernovets man who brings plenty of skill to this roster. It’s more that TSV Marzig’s wunderkind Einar Hackl, just 18, whose goal scoring last season led the Marzigers to 2nd place in the Meisterschaft, isn’t here. He will attend the U18 World Cup instead, with fans debating if this is an STFA choice to ensure he gets an opportunity to play at all youth levels, and some more cynical fans wondering if some HansAir sponsorship dollars may have influenced the selection. Either way, you cannot complain about the quality of the forwards that are here.

A True Valhallan and a former u21s international for the Chicks himself, Zhamaletdinov will surely go down as one of the best players who never got to represent the full Terns senior side thanks to the years of Valhallan isolation. Having left his job as attacking coach at his native Surtsey, his new role as national u-21s boss saw him go all the way to the final in his first three tournaments, losing the first before triumphing at the second attempt, and then returning for what was almost a successful title defence last time around. This time, he wants to get back up to where he was.

He very much sees his role as one focused on player development, and won't be mad whatsoever that the senior team have 'robbed' him of a couple of what would be guaranteed starters whilst they're at the Copa, seeing it very much as a win if his starlets make the step up successfully. Nonetheless, at one point he brought a lot of frustrated fans to the u21s with his style of attacking football, and inspired a number of forum posts and pundits to start wondering what a Terns side managed by Zhamaletdinov might look like. Since Aalto’s appointment to the main job that speculation has slipped away slightly, but, people and Testiculos nominators alike are fond of successful teams, and Zhamaletdinov has certainly managed that. He has a love affair with this tournament apparently, and as he attempts to guide a fourth squad of youngsters to the final and extend what may already be the best managerial run in tournament history, he will be hoping to set another handful of twenty-one year-olds out into the world with experience of going deep into a tournament knockout stage.

You never know, it might come in useful for the senior Terns one day. Maybe.

A True Valhallan, Vauxhall Jansen makes up for his ridiculous name with a fine history of playing right back for Bjarnarey, the Terns, and a number of clubs in Vilita and Turori, and having been on the coaching staff at both Northbrook Diamonds and Bjarnarey in their most recent title winning seasons, as well as East Franz when they were the last Divisjon One team to retain the title, knows something or two about keeping a team that's at the top, on the top. When Einar Jepsen took the vacant assistant role at the Terns, Jansen's was the name at the top of Zhamaletdinov’s shortlist, and will bring that wealth of experience and expertise that this team needs.

As a veteran of the last two squads, Ruben Herzog is probably the main man in the back three, but alongside the deceptively experienced Emrahn Tchechenko of Lok. Cassia and the staggeringly quick Hogni Oye, formerly of Red Star, they will aim to provide a solid base for the rest of the team to build from. Jari-Andrej Coia has been understandably and predictably hoisted away to the senior side by Aalto, so Arne Postler, formerly of Aasiaat gets the starting nod at left-back, despite playing as a winger for his club side. Lars Nordenmeyer on the other flank takes the vice-captaincy with his experience of the league in Tikariot, but keep an eye out for both Justin Juenger and Ivo Frede should they emerge from the bench, as both caught the eye in Divisjon One last season. Not much is known about Jensen and Egge, but Zhamaletdinov has been watching plenty of youth team football, as you'd expect, and he must have seen something in them.

Wojciech Baptiste was not at his best in the finalt last time around and will be keen to make amends, and he will be supported by two players who made appearances from the bench in the last squad - Bergmundur Engebraaten, who currently plays for Mytanar giants 1923 Esca, and Resolute Storm's current shining hope; Albrecht Blankenbeckler. He might have a silly name, but he's also been made the captain in Valentin Brunel's absence, and it isn't hard to see why. Joel Kirkby was also in the last squad and will be looking to guide the newcomers in the role they can offer, with Roger Teig of particular interest after performing well for Surtsey over the last few seasons.

It's a very rare thing in international youth football teams to see a full roster of players in one position retained from one tournament to the next, but that's what 's happened here for Zhamaletdinov. In Eike-Rasmussen and Grief, the Chicks have not only a pair of strikers with plenty of Divisjon One experience between them, but also who've had one tournament's worth of experience as each others' strike partner already. Which, is even rarer. In fact, the only other time this has happened for the Chicks was when Niemi and Nijgaard repeated their partnership for two editions in Zhamaletdinov's first two DBCs, and we all know what happened in the second... Will Roald and Volkhardt manage to capture that lightning in the bottle for the second time? Only time will tell.

Team Personality
The Darmeni team will never argue with the referee. Indeed, if anything needs to be brought to the attention of the referee it will be done by either the Captain or Vice-Captain in a respectful manner (or to the fourth-official by the Manager). With regards to foul/dirty play, the Darmeni team will not provoke, or retaliate against any opposition player. Darmeni's expect each team to keep to itself and deal with its own trouble makers; any opposition player who attempts to prevent a conflict by pushing or pulling a Darmeni away from the scene will be promptly told off, as that is the duty of the Darmeni Captain.

Nonetheless, Darmen will play in a relatively aggressive manner. Tackles will be conducted in a way which ensures the opponent ends up on the ground, but causing injury will be avoided as much as possible. On set pieces, Darmenis will stand their ground and will not be easily pushed around, they will not however engage in hugging. In fact, if any opposing player tries to push past them, it is not uncommon for the Darmeni player to feign resistance before simply stepping aside and watching as the opposing player stumbles past on their way to ground. This occasionally backfires however, as the referee may mistake the incidence as having been a foul in the box.

The Football Association of the Commonwealth of Baker Park are one of the biggest supporters of age restricted competition across the multiverse; we count the 42nd Di Bradini Cup as our 'Day Zero' of the modern era of the sport and our own stewardship of the Under-18 World Championship is inspired by the work of our regional partners at the VFA in their commitment to acting as fair brokers to all nations seeking to compete.

Since lifting the trophy at the conclusion of DiBradini Cup 53, the Commonwealth of Baker Park Under-21 squad have bottomed out in a competitive sense: only a single victory (and 2 draws) over the last 12 group stage matches have caused the FAC's reputation for youth player development to plunge, especially in contrast to the success of Tumbra, the side BP defeated in that Final at The Battleground in Raynor City.
Darren Haller will take charge of youth NT squad for the first time, having spent a lengthy apprenticeship as an assistant for the U18/U21's, bringing along fellow former NT players Declan Mason and Ashley Delgarro plus National Team Goalkeeping Coach Elaine King for her second stint as an AM.
