Delegate's Update

Hello everyone, welcome to the May edition of the EPNS. This month’s update from me will touch on a few things, notably changes in Foreign Affairs, and progress made over the past thirty days in several key areas and ministries.

We’ll start in the Ministry of Culture, where we’ve seen TEP21 festivities kick off over the last week. We’ve had a lot of fun celebrating our region’s twenty-first birthday, and we’re super grateful to have so many regions attend and say hi. As we move into June, we’ll see plenty of activities through pride month, and we’ll likely see a lot more rainbow flags hanging up around here. Massive thanks to Minister of Culture, Tommo who has worked hard to plan and host our birthday festival.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we’ve concluded our ambassador program rollout, and each region on our relations sheet now has a dedicated ambassador present. We’ve had our first EPNS editions sent out, and of course many of you reading now from other regions will have received word via one of our ambassadors. We’re excited to see this program continue, and I’m hopeful for success. We’ve had a couple changes to the relations sheet this month, as I’ve today ordered the closure of relations with Sky Haven and The Labyrinth. Unfortunately, these regions have fallen below our 15 endorsement requirement in recent months, and we’ve made the decision to close relations for now. We’re hopeful these relationships can be rekindled in future if and when activity in these regions increases. I personally informed their leaders of this change last month, so we’ve been sure to not drop this on anyone overnight.

In another unfortunate change, we’ve today closed off relations with Astoria. With the region undergoing what can only be referred to as a failed coup attempt, and with the Discord and off-site Forums intentionally destroyed, there’s obviously no way we can retain this diplomatic relationship. We in TEP were quite shocked and dismayed to see events pan out this way, and I won’t hide my personal disgust and disappointment with how events transpired. I have personally requested the Praesidium proscribe the three individuals involved in the region's destruction, as well as the "successor" region - GOAT

In a more positive light, we’ve seen a bunch of progress made on a couple fronts in government. The hard work on the REWARD program is complete, and we now have a fully operational, modernised and expansive WA Development program. This project has been in the works for months and has been the brainchild of myself and Vussul, who has done a tremendous job handling all the coding. I cannot thank them enough for this contribution, we’re immensely grateful to have both this sort of dedication and skill with coding native to the region.

This month has also seen the completion of the EPSA rework. We’re now fully rebranded as the ‘East Pacific Sovereign Armada’. We’ll obviously still be running under the EPSA acronym, but we’ve made changes to the ranks, insignia, command and remodelled the Discord. Furthermore, I’ve set up a new dispatch hub for the EPSA, with the ability to expand it for future requirements if necessary. While things are quiet now, I’m hoping to get a recruitment campaign up in June, pending where I’m situated after election season.

I am happy to report that May has seen our strongest endorsement figures since I entered office. At the time of writing, I sit on 441 endorsements, the highest figures since early in my predecessor's term. It’s no secret our numbers have declined significantly post F/S update, as is the case with all feeders, however these figures prove we are not only stabilising the downward curve, but in many places we’re starting to see signs of small growth. We’re not likely to see a boom in numbers any time soon, but it’s good to see numbers picking up, and I have some hope the slide has been slowed greatly, if not stopped altogether. This has come about as a result of a determined campaign on my part to gather endorsements, and I plan to launch further campaigns in future to boost and incentivise WA membership and Hussardom. This plays into the plans and hopes I have for REWARD moving forward.

Back in March, I expressed my intention to see out this term with a 71% endorsement percentage, and we’ve surpassed that goal and hit 73%. This result puts us on par with most other feeders, though I’m not content to stop here, and I’d like to see that figure raise even further should I remain in office past June. If another individual takes the Delegacy, I hope to keep endorsements at a high level and minimise the usual fall-off in endorsements each transition generally brings.

Culture Update

Yo yo yo, here’s the update out of the culture ministry!

I’m delighted to see things slowly (but surely) ticking upwards in terms of culture. May saw a whole new buncha events including weekly game nights of King Of The Castle and Death By AI, and the hosting of TEP 21 towards the end of the month, which, although it wasn’t huge, went just fine

Over the next month, the main focus of the culture ministry will be Pride Month, and I’m very happy to say we’ll be releasing something very special this year on 6 June, so mark your calendars! Also be sure to check out the monthly calendars (linked below) to familiarise yourself with any upcoming / scheduled events we may have. The calendar can be subject to change at any time, so beware of that!

On the whole, a massive thank you to everybody who got involved, helped with, and participated in this years’ TEP 21 festivities! I hope everybody had a good time celebrating our regional birthday, and be sure to stick around for similar events in the future.

Grand Vizier Address

Over the course of May, the Citizenship Office approved one new citizenship application, and one forfeiture of citizenship, alongside three clerical changes to the citizenship roster. Citizenship Officer Vulbania will lead the citizenship audit in the first week of June, and I commend their outstanding work. The Citizen list and forum group masking remain out of date due to my busy schedule, and I apologize for my failure to follow through.

However, due to the intense strain upon myself before and Vulbania now, I advertised hiring for new Citizenship Officers. Myehn and Tommo, two trustworthy government workers and community members, with unique benefits between the two of them, have both been nominated to the Office, and are being voted upon by the Magisterium. If they do not prove sufficient in alleviating the workload and sharing the burden, I will pursue more hires.

There is no other news to report within the Praesidium.

We in The East Pacific’s FA Watch are tasked with discussing and debating news of global significance within NationStates Gameplay (NSGP). With an eye on the forums and the news reports of our allies, we see discussion on a wide range of interregional political topics, and I have used this perspective to create the Newsstand, summarizing the goings-on of NSGP.

This Newsstand is fact-checked by TEP’s Foreign Minister, but nevertheless, I am human, and make mistakes. As such, I encourage people to reach out if there are factual errors, and I invite any NSer to reply in this thread adding any events I may have missed. It can help me figure out what my blind spots are, and ensure accountable, factual reporting. Furthermore, readers are encouraged to direct opinions to threads relating to the individual events.

Without further ado, here are the major events of May 2024:

• Doctors Orvos was elected President of The Free Nations Federation, with South Asians as his Vice President.
• Astoria signed the Communion of Sparkling Angels with Sparkalia, committing to military aid and World Assembly cooperation. [1]
• Realm of the Whispering Winds Delegate Xvraks withdrew native support for the Injunction repeal, citing concerns about the Defender forces in the region attempting to replace him with Jolx in the Delegacy in order to speed along the transition to a Stronghold. Shortly after this statement, Defenders began endorsing Xvraks again. [2]
• Creeperopolis has resigned as Chief Consul of The League & Concord. Anjan Kloss has been named a Consul in his place, but Quebecshire, the founder, took the mantle of Chief Consul on himself once again, with no other Consul stepping up. Creeperopolis will remain the WA Delegate of The League.
• Simone Republic was elected Delegate of The North Pacific. In the elections, Simone faced against Dreadton and Francois Isidore. Simone, like all other candidates, intends to continue the war against TCB and BOM.
• Archangel Shadow was elected Archkeeper of Astoria, succeeding Rosartemis. Thal Dorthat was elected Supreme Intercessor, and the Supreme Harbinger position is re-opening, as Archangel Shadow had won that as well, and chose the Archkeeper position instead.
• The Region That Has No Big Banks has established an embassy with Europe and The East Pacific.
• Blue Ridge, a region founded and led by former TNP Delegate Hulldom, has established its NSGP forum thread and its newspaper, the Starlight Advertiser, which currently describes the structure of the region. [3]
• Overthinkers has resigned as Delegate of the West Pacific, and Fujai has been appointed as their successor.
• Lair of the Dragon led an invasion against Midnight Vale, which was declared Do Not Defend by the Defenders.
• Mjau was elected Prime Minister of The Region That Has No Big Banks, who shall lead the 6th Administration of TRTHNBB.
• Krystar, a new Sci-Fi themed region, has established its NSGP embassy thread.
• TNP Delegate Simone Republic has apologized for their part in a defensive operation, and submitting Liberation and Injunction proposals, against the raid of League of Christian Nations, which was found to harbor homophobic elements. [4]
• Europeia re-elected UPC as President, and elected Grea Kriopia to their first term as Vice President, beating out key opponents such as the Sincluda/Gemeinschaftsland ticket.
• The region of Astoria has been shut down following an attempted Governor coup by Unike and Sarah Sparkle. Sarah Sparkle deleted the Discord server, while Unike deleted the off-site forums in an attempt to funnel nations into Athena. As a result, Athena has since banned Unike, Sarah Sparkle, and Astoreus. Although Astoreus was not directly involved in the deletions, he was banned for his complicity in the destabilization of the community. [5]

The North Pacific's supremacy in technology was indisputable: its automation system for its dispatches let it run the most complicated dispatch system in the game, the day/week/month telegram system that we formerly used was wholly TNP's scripts created by R3n, and so was AEQ. Now, those are all finished. TNP's supremacy has vanished and the region's technology has been superseded by other regions, including our own. TNP's newspaper is published by private nations and their dispatches that were formerly updated daily have not been updated for over a year. TNP's technological collapse removed TEP's day/week/month telegram system and AEQ with it.

That is the background that our region has emerged. Our dependency on foreign tools is odious and shameful but it has long been necessary. The collapse of R3n's scripts showed that reliance on a singular person to maintain scripts will eventually lead to failure. It is against all reason to rely on technology that is held by a singular person, especially so by a foreigner. The lessons having been learnt from this, this government has made every effort to reduce our reliance on foreign tools until we reach the point where we rely on nothing made by foreigners; all of our tools will eventually be ours and, unlike the past, will not be held by a single person.

Firstly, the day/week/month telegram system, which we have not had for a long time, will be remade. It is my top priority. In the past, every day, two days, week, two weeks, and 30 days a nation had spent in the region would be marked by a telegram to them noting this and encouraging them to participate in the region. Telegrams like this also existed for when a nation left the region, joined the WA, or left the WA. These have been absent since TNP's scripts collapsed, which this system depended on. I will remake these and combine these with the other scripts listed below.

Secondly, our reliance on Dot, which replaced AEQ, will be slowly replaced by Shahzada, our own tool. Currently, anyone who types

on the RMB will get a list of nations to endorse. If the Delegate and Viziers are not endorsed, it will inform the nation to endorse them first. For Dot's slackers command, it is replicated similarly to tart:

. It will present a list of nations not endorsing you and a telegrammable list of eight names separated by commas for as many nations are left to endorse you. The remaining functions of Dot to replace are the Discord equivalents and the nation and region information commands. Once these are done, we can remove Dot. These are below the day/week/month telegram system in the priority list.

These are what will be done in the future. Now, I will detail what I have completed before this.

The first project was a complete change to our dispatch system and organisation. Initially, all of our dispatches were kept in an index in a non-hierarchical manner. Now, there is the Directory which links to every other master dispatches. These master dispatches are the government master dispatch, EPNS master dispatch, REWARD master dispatch, STEP master dispatch, and archive master dispatch. All of these, except EPNS, are hosted on the same nation, centralising almost all of our information. These dispatches were automated where necessary, eliminating the burdensome task of manually updating the dispatches. Without a doubt, our dispatch system this the most streamlined and easily navigable system of any major region.

After this was completed, REWARD v2 was started. Prior to this, REWARD had collapsed and needed to be remade. REWARD v2 looks more modern and has introduced new features. We now have a regional census that updates every week and two regional leaderboards that update every week and monthly basis. These are to encourage activity and competition within our region. REWARD v2 is to be combined with Shahzada and the day/week/month telegram system to create a better WA culture.

At present, all of these are being run by me on my Raspberry Pi temporarily until everything is complete. As the sole developer, it is far quicker for me to host these. The time gap between deploying new features and bugfixing is zero, everything can be synced and run immediately. After every project is complete, it will be moved onto TEP Admin run servers and it will be put on a private GitHub so TEP can develop it further in the future.

When I am finished, TEP will be independent and no longer reliant on foreigners for its tools. All of our tools will also be accessible to the leadership, eliminating the dangers associated with a singular person holding access to all of our technology. Our future with these scripts will be secure and TEP will surpass every other region in technology.

Good afternoon,

On Tuesday, I approached the Praesidium to request an expedited proscription of three individuals for their roles in the events we saw transpire in Astoria a fortnight ago. I also made the case for that proscription to extend to all current and future members of GOAT, a new project of one of those proscribed.

The Praesidium has granted me this proscription in full.

These individuals, Astoreus, Catgirlboss (Sarah Sparkles) and Unike all played their part in the intentional destruction of Astoria, as well as it's offsite forums and Discord community, wiping out thousands of hours of work, community history and memories. We in The East Pacific condemn these actions in the strongest of terms, and want nothing to do with those responsible.

The intentional destruction and/or removal of offsite community hubs must be condemned across the site, with a united voice. These actions wipe out not only a gathering space for friends and colleagues, but take with them oftentimes years of history, friendships, cherished memories and hard work. The actions undertaken by those mentioned above were inherently selfish and gutless. Whatever your IC or OOC opinion of a region, these actions cannot be shrugged off as simply unfortunate, but should instead be taken as a grave warning and an imperative to isolate those who believe they can take such actions with no real consequences.

These individuals, and current and future members of GOAT are forbidden from entering The East Pacific, so long as this proscription stands.

I'm aware that off-site property destruction is bad, Koth, but again why on earth would I have ever wanted to destroy Astoria's discord in the first place? I was one of the most active posters there and recruited people to the region constantly (a fact that can be backed up in Bot Realm's recruitment records), was I tired of running Astoria, absolutely, and that is why I made the decision to resign and go to Athena, but to suggest that I wanted to see Astoria's OOC off-site properties destroyed, or even worse yet that I was the one who did them is beyond infuriating.

Let me be absolutely clear: I, Sarah Sparkle/Catgirlboss, was the one who destroyed the Astorian Discord (edit: and the forums too since I had the password). I deleted them on my own accord and pushed the button. I regret my actions, I wasn't in a good mental state at the time to use a euphemism. I was dealing with personal issues, burnout, and nervous exhaustion from the region collapsing, especially after Shadow's post. It was an impulsive decision with no secret master plan behind it. Neither Unike, Ast, nor anyone else directed me to do it—in fact, they haven't forgiven me and probably never will.

For the record, I'm not affiliated with any region—neither Astoria, GOAT, nor any other. I'm not even on their Discord. This will be my last message before letting this and all my NS accounts CTE. I apologize to all Astorians for my actions. Once again, deleting the Discord was entirely my decision, one I regret, but it was still MY DECISION. So punish me, hate me, proscribe me, but stop blaming others for my actions. It is unjust and unfair to hold anyone else responsible for what I did.

Let me be absolutely clear: I, Sarah Sparkle/Catgirlboss, was the one who destroyed the Astorian Discord. I deleted it on my own accord and pushed the button. I regret my actions, I wasn't in a good mental state at the time to use a euphemism. I was dealing with personal issues, burnout, and nervous exhaustion from the region collapsing, especially after Shadow's post. It was an impulsive decision with no secret master plan behind it. Neither Unike, Ast, nor anyone else directed me to do it—in fact, they haven't forgiven me and probably never will.

For the record, I'm not affiliated with any region—neither Astoria, GOAT, nor any other. I'm not even on their Discord. This will be my last message before letting this and all my NS accounts CTE. I apologize to all Astorians for my actions. Once again, deleting the Discord was entirely my decision, one I regret, but it was still MY DECISION. So punish me, hate me, proscribe me, but stop blaming others for my actions. It is unjust and unfair to hold anyone else responsible for what I did.

IIRC this is known, however, the fact that you had already “retired” and left the server many times previously, yet were still given the position pissed a lot of people off. Keep in mind that many other regions (like the AA) have only banned Sarah.

The fact that you think this matters even a little bit when it comes to off-site property destruction says way more about you than it does about Shadow.

I'm aware that off-site property destruction is bad, Koth, but again why on earth would I have ever wanted to destroy Astoria's discord in the first place? I was one of the most active posters there and recruited people to the region constantly (a fact that can be backed up in Bot Realm's recruitment records), was I tired of running Astoria, absolutely, and that is why I made the decision to resign and go to Athena, but to suggest that I wanted to see Astoria's OOC off-site properties destroyed, or even worse yet that I was the one who did them is beyond infuriating.

Raid Report: 19th June 2024 Major

Joy Riding with Friends

On this abnormally warm night, Admiral Shadow decided that they wanted to go out on a joy ride. They had not sailed a ship on their own before, but they decided that there was no time like the present to start. Of course, nothing can go smoothly when you start. First, the rigging wasn’t secure. Then the flag wasn’t flying the right way round. Apparently, trying to rig up a ship on your own is harder than it looks. As they prepared the ship for their joy ride, the Delegate came by to check on how everything was going. Shadow, fearing punishment, tried to pretend they weren’t doing anything. No sire bob-o.

The Delegate - celebrating their re-election - inquired as to what the Admiral was doing. Shadow - not being very good at the lying thing - told the Delegate what they were planning on doing. The Delegate thought this was an amazing idea, especially since he had just won re-election recently. And so, The Admiral and The Delegate decided to get prepared for a joy ride out on the open seas.

As they were preparing to leave, they saw a dragon flying overhead who recognized the Shadow in their Admiral outfit. The Dragon flew down and stopped the eager Admiral. The Admiral explained that they were going on a joy ride and asked if The Dragon would like to accompany them both. The Dragon was so excited that they nearly tipped the boat over soaring into the sky.

As they traveled across the open seas, The Admiral went down to check on supplies when they happened to find a Sailor knocked out in the Brig. The Sailor probably had a little too much fun at the Re-Election Party and fell asleep on the boat. Oh whale. The Admiral was not gonna turn back for one sleepy Sailor.

Minor Update

Still a little groggy from the previous night’s joy ride, once again Admiral Shadow was rigging up another ship. This time, they brought along Commodore Altys, Ensign Ambis, and Sailor Vulbania. As they had left port, everything looked sunny and good.

Not all good things would last however. The crew came up against some fierce chasers. It also didn’t help that a certain Admiral was counting 1, 2, fish.Oh whale, the sailing was still a fun adventure. It even brought about the promotion of a Sailor to an Ensign.
