They were not. I've never thought of Betty as lesbian in original show and still don't now. Just because she's some butch tomboy the LGBT lobby likes to claim her character as one of theirs. The real situation is perhaps that Nickelodeon are pushing an agenda that LGBT stuff is good when it was never asked for or wanted. Do parents these days want their children to have the impression that non-straight couples can have biological children without outside help? Harsh as it is, that is reality. They think they can write Howard out but they're wrong.

I mean only a complete imbecile would believe that a gay/ non-straight couple can produce completely biological offspring (DNA from both parents). However, does this really matter? I'm not the most educated in this area, I admit, but surrogacy and other means of reproduction are still producing children, are they not? Again, I'm not that knowledgeable in this area, so educate me if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Definitely, pretty sure we've reached the point where the far-right have just devolved into saying the most absurd things imaginable to get around the fact that they have no real logical reason to be opposed to LGBTQ+ rights.

"The Free Market implicitly negotiated a Goldwaterian compromise on LGBT rights" while obviously a very mistaken viewpoint is something i have no doubt people like the Muskbros are foolish enough to legitimately believe.

It's just a bit embarrassing to hear Mr. "Don't even call me a classical liberal" Distruzio to pull such a... Classically Liberal analysis of social relations. Especially when his previous analysis of Queer identity shows that it doesn't actually matter to him whether or not Goldwaterian co-existence was possible.

lol, some of us have to think that way, and have the mantra of “I have my privacy and my freedom by being single.” For some of us, false hope is worse.

But for me, just because I’m never going to be able to be in a committed relationship, let alone even have a hookup doesn’t mean I going to find meaning in conservative theology. Progressive theology also isn’t for me

There are some traditions that are worth keeping.

Like, I believe a good strong family makes a good strong society, but I have a more wider view of what constitutes a good strong family, which includes single parents and same-sex parents.

NSCR pretty routinely has the worst takes on anything except forpol (no offense but it's true). His ideal society would be an unimaginably atomized one, which would end up looking more like modern America and all the problems it has than anything idyllic or utopian.

Ah, a misinterpretation, then. If a family is chosen, I don't consider it to be a "strong" family.

It is every individual's right to choose who they interact and spend time with, and cultural norms of filial piety and family loyalty are oppressive tyrannies that prevent people from realising this right. This is what I mean by "strong families".

Tradition:
the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way.

Your own value set would either end after a single generation or by definition become a tradition.

Traditions are fine as long as they're not harmful.

A tradition of attacking and othering LGBT people because of their sexuality/gender identity is obviously harmful and should be rejected.

Traditions have value on their own. As soon as traditions turn into something you are forced into doing against your will, however, they are of no intrinsic value.

Should definitely be something you can choose to participate in, otherwise it starts becoming a boring errand. Much like the aforementioned holiday dinners can sometimes also be.

That is not against the idea of strong families, because in the West moving out is favored when you are an adult. Also lol to loyalty being oppressive.

Can you really call it freedom, if individuals are just roaming around with no sense of attachment to the surroundings? I really don't know why you don't support laissez-faire since your views are extremely individualistic.

I see no reason this can't be discussed and answered reasonably.

Societies are networks of individuals approaching life with different values. Societies are often regulated informally through social pressures.

I think the answer is the same for both sides of the coin. We work against those who do not maintain the social values and expectations that we want them too as you do. Pride and lust are not societal values that I want to see perpetuated and celebrated in public as positive virtues(example, example 2). We are all actively shaping the world constantly and I intend to do what I can to make it a better society than we have. The LGBTQ movement celebrates Pride and often portrays people's sexual orientations as equating to their identities. In this way I hold the lgbtq community in the same regard that i hold "players" male or female who are judged similarly for equating their vices to be their identities.

Other side of the coin you decry anyone who does not embrace and accept your equating of identity to sexual preferences.
No I don't accept or embrace that. That doesn't make my dislike for your values special or different than then others that are detracting from a well ordered and positive society.
Rejecting these things in public and shared spaces strengthens our society by embracing a society with positive values and holds people accountable for their actions. Vice is not virtuous.
