Season 6 - Part 1

Match of the week: Grand-Ours Rovers 2-1 Olympique Yvesmont
First game of the week of the season brought Olympique Yvesmont to PatrioComm Stadium in Grand-Ours. It was the first opportunity for fans to see the Rovers without their former leader Elie Manahan who transferred to Swangard Athletic in the offseason. Céline Alambic rippled the netting first, beating Philippe Mignon with the simplest of touches after receiving a through ball from Gaspard Leroux. Yvesmont would reply with a lot of pressure to finish up the half. Leading to a goal from Charlotte Williams. The game would remain tied for much of the second half but Jack O’Rourke would break the deadlock after coming off the bench.

Match of the week: Rapides St-Charles 0-2 AS Couen
MotW saw Rapides host AS Couen. The Foubraccan rivals started slowly probing their opponents defenses. Evan Lachapelle would open the scoring against his former team deflecting a corner past Valentin Poincaré. Rapides St-Charles would put pressure on the Lions but Iocilin Bedard hit the post on a sure chance and Kayden Boatwright was denied by a last minute tackle from Morgan Miller. Gaëlle Courbis would add to AS Couen's lead soon after. She punched in a rebound after an Hannah Graham chance was denied.

Match of the week: Union Port-la-Ville 3-0 Asche City
Our match this week pitted local rivals Union Port-la-Ville and Asche City. The Auks were hoping to find any type of momentum after a 3-0 defeat last time out but the Auks found themselves in front of a Union team in top form. Early on, the offensive pressure from the defending champions proved too much as Nirlo-Nirlo Bel sent a rocket past Henri Faucher. With tempers flaring, Brandon Summers would see himself ejected after a risky tackle on Union's Salaison. Down to 10, Asche were no match for Matelots. Fortinello and Langlais both scored from feeds by Annie Hintz to seal the outcome.

Match of the week: Batille Sailors FC 2-2 CF Capitale
Match of the week brings us to the smallest stadium in the Super League as Batille Sailors FC host CF Capitale. Despite the small size, the home crowd seemed make an impact as the Ministers would let in two soft goals to start the game. As the game progressed, the team from Jolicoeur were able to generate more offense with Michel Bouvier and Mahader Mohamad eventually finding the back of the net to tie the game up. Despite their best effort, Capitale were not able to find the go ahead goal and had to settle for a single point.

Season 6 - Part 2

Match of the week: Asche City 3-4 Olympique Yvesmont
Our game of the week brings us to Stade du Plateau to see Asche City take on Olympique Yvesmont. The OY brought the pressure in early with Gabriel Laurent and Christian Masson both seeing chances stray away from goal at the last instant. Asche City would surprise them with a swift run by Casimir Richelieu to make it past the back line and in on goal. The 19 year old winger did not waste his chance placing the ball just past the charging keeper. Olympique quickly responded as Eloise Boisclair redirected a corner past Henri Faucher. Just before half-time, a turnover from Benoît Alpin created the perfect chance for the Yvesmont strikers to give their team the lead. The break would lead to more pressure from the third placed team. Romana Vuković would send a long through ball to Gabriel Laurent who would tally his second of the game. Bryan Risckett would cut the lead on a free kick sending a powerful header to the back of the net. The teams would trade goals one more time ending their high scoring affair 4-3.

Match of the week: Griffin Isles United 0-1 AS Couen
AS Couen visited Lockhart Lane this week in Blackbay. The match was closely contested with both teams able to thwart their opponents. With both goaltender's ability on full display, both teams went to half time frustrated. Patrick Emmanuelle would flinch first letting a shot from Gaëlle Courbis early in the second half. United pressed for an equalizer but the Lions' defense were able to close out the clean sheet.

Game of the week once again takes us to the smallest stadium in the league. The two clubs are fighting to stay out of the relegation zone which makes this important points for both teams. Batille made the home crowd happy early with a goal from Lucas Jacquet. City tried to battle back but Mathieu Roche would seal the deal with an impressive run down the left flank.

Season 6 - Part 3

Match of the week: Mountaineers United 3-1 Stade Conflans
Stade Conflans were trying to turn their luck around after falling to third to last in the standings. The Rouges visited Morrigan Park in Oreilly to take on the Mountaineers. The visitors found themselves in trouble early however as the Mountaineers started to create chances. Wesley Richardson opened the scoring after escaping coverage in the attacking third and finding the back of the net. Eugène Leclerc would also add a tally before the half to double the home team's lead. Lucien Graham tried to rally his teammates with an early goal to start the half but the momentum was not in their favour. The Mountaineers scored another, sealing Stade Conflans's faith to stay near the bottom of the standings for at least another week.

Match of the week: Grand-Ours Rovers 2-2 AS Couen
Rivalry night in southern Foubrac as Grand-Ours Rovers played host to AS Couen. The Rovers are playing some of their best soccer in years after many difficult season and they were looking to continue their top form against the Lions who are trying to secure a spot in the championship playoffs. Both teams started with energy and chances soon followed. Hannah Graham hit the crossbar moments before Gaspard Leroux's goal was called back for offside. The chances kept coming and eventually so did the goals. Orianne Crépin and Céline Alambic got the home team ahead but the experienced offense of Couen managed to score two goals in the second half to end in a draw.

Match of the week: Griffin Isles United 3-3 Asche City
With the playoff split imminent, Griffin Isles United found themselves on the cut-off line with a chance to write their own destiny and climb into the top six with a win. Asche City on the other hand were trying to gain momentum and stay as far away from relegation as possible. Both teams played with energy and purpose but neither team could break the other early on. Ignacio Curbelo who has had a slower year got the home crowd on their feet as he found the back of the net from range. After the first goal, more chances kept coming from both sides. Defenses looked helpless as through ball, crosses and free kicks all threatened their keepers. Asche took the lead thanks to Cynthia Bélanger and Richard Hamelion but the Finns battled back before half time with a rare goal from Richard Danbusky on a corner. The third year defender outmuscle his mark in the box and redirected the ball past Henri Faucher. Needing the three points to advance, United charged after the break in order to get ahead. Cody Fulton finally got them their go ahead goal but the Auks had other plans finding an equalizer late into stoppage time to force the draw.

Season 6 - Part 4 - Playoffs

Once again the Super League playoffs brought plenty of close and important matches to bring the season to a close. The Grand-Ours Rovers were looking to close the gap to the league leading Union Port-la-Ville. However the challengers faltered in their first visit to the top split playoff finishing second to last with a 3-3-4 record. The Travelling Bears dropped a few key games, notably against Mountaineers United and Athletique and saw their chances slip away. However the Rovers finished the season on a high note with a 4-0 victory against the back to back champions Union Port-la-Ville. The loss allowed AS Couen to collect the playoff silverware though their performance left them short of a Champions League spot. Athletique Alexandrie also collected a good share of points and their season total gave them just enough to qualify for the Challengers Cup The recently promoted Mountaineers United impressed in their first season in the top league, they showed grit and toughness all season long leading them to a well earned seventh place overall. Finally, Olympique Yvesmont balked in the playoffs only earning 8 points but a good regular season haul saw them qualify for the Challengers Cup spot along with Athletique Alexandrie and AS Couen.

Absolutely needing a huge haul of points to save themselves from relegation, Rapides St-Charles delivered with an impressive 5-4-1 record and 19 points. Griffin Isles United matched Rapides points total which enabled them to finish 7th overall. Stade Conflans had a disappointing season and playoff. A lot of uncertainty around staff and personnel could see the team making moves in the off season. CF Capitale kept themselves just out of reach of relegation with a 14 point playoff run. "We're obviously not in the spot we want to be in the standings but at least we will be fighting in the Super League again next year", said Mahader Mohamad through his translator. Finally, Batille Sailors FC and Asche City fell short of safety and will be relegated to the Pinnacle Series. Asche City had hoped that surviving last season would have been the end of their worries but a weak transfer window and inexperienced group saw them in the basement of the table all season.

Season 7 - Regular Season

An explosion of offense from Grand-Ours Rivers' striker duo of Jack O'Rourke and Celine Alambic led the team to a surprising top of the table finish. It seems like the system from second year manager Marshall Parry bore fruit and things are finally looking bright for Rovers fans. Rapides St-Charles also saw a resurgence off of the performance of Oberour striker Iocilin Bedard. The team comes off an 8th place finish last season and will be performing in the championship playoffs for the first time. Stade Conflans, under the new leadership of Uladzimir Kapalin improved as well. 31 year old striker showed he still had some bite in the attack third. Michelle Gong-Landau also impressed keeping up with national team winger Emmanuel Francoeur all throughout the season. For Union fans expecting another first place finish, a fourth place is disappointing and the 15 point deficit heading into the playoff makes it difficult for a championship challenge. While fans might not be content with the result, the team seems to have found a good replacement at the goal keeper position with Valentin Poincaré getting the starting role. Building off two league cups wins, Athletique Alexandrie were led by Tom Sloan to a decent points tally. Finally the last championship playoff qualifier was a surprising one. Belleriviere Wanderers came out of nowhere to secure the position in the last game of the season against 7th place Olympique Yvesmont. The former had some defensive shortcomings that saw them let in a league worst 41 goal against. Meanwhile, Griffin Isles and Mountaineers United had very similar seasons finishing 8th and 9th. The two teams should however have a decent chance at evading relegation. A string of injuries might have derailed some of AS Couen's season, but fans will be left wondering if last season was only a fluke and that a bigger rebuild is necessary. Finally the two teams in the danger zone are CF Capitale and Couen Arsenal. Capitale's presence in last two might be a shock to some but the team has been cascading down the table for a few season. Hopefully the playoffs can give them one last chance at surviving.

Athletique surprised the competition in the championship playoffs securing first place after the 10 game shootout. In second place, Union redeemed a disappointing regular season finish but they fell a point short of the IFCF Challengers Cup. Stade Conflans finished the season well qualifying for IFCF competition after a year away. Rapides St-Charles secured second place overall, but they would have hoped for a more convincing end. Same for Grand-Ours Rovers, despite winning the title, the team coasted on their points lead to an 3-3-4 playoff card finishing second last. Manager Marshall Parry had a few comments in his post season presser. "I would have liked a bit more energy to end the season. It kind of leaves a sour taste in your even if you get to lift the trophy at the end. But now we are going to have to refocus, retool and mount a title defense next season". Finally, Belleriviere Wanderers looked outmatched in the playoffs losing all ten games.

Griffin Isles proved to be the best of the rest, dominating the relegation playoffs. AS Couen followed close behind to keep themselves far away from the relegation conversation. Olympique defensive woes continued with 21 goals against in the 10 game span which saw them drop valuable points. Couen Arsenal put up a valiant effort to stay afloat but the points deficit from the regular season proved insurmountable. CF Capitale continued in their catastrophic collapse. Pundits have blamed an aging core, inexperienced strikers and a panoply of faults to explain this type of results. The front office will have to take a long hard look at themselves and reset as they will play next season in the Pinnacle Series. Finally, Mountaineers United had a disappointing playoff result but their rivals' performance were not much better keeping them safe for another season in the big league.
