The Valanora Footballing Association proudly presents the fifty-sixth edition of the Di Bradini Cup, the twenty-fifth edition of which to be held in the Valanora. Recognized as direct successor to the original Under-21 World Cup run by Total n Utter Insanity, this is also the 78th Under-21 World Cup.

This tournament is named after Starblaydia's most-famous player, the first person to score for Starblaydia's own Under-21s, currently the fifth-highest goalscorer in Starblaydia's history, World Cup Winner, member of the World Cup Hall of Fame and one-time President of the World Cup Committee: Simeone Di Bradini. We present, for your participation: The 57th Di Bradini Cup, a.k.a. The 78th Under-21 World Cup!

To sign up for the tournament, a roster must be posted as your entry. Reserve posts or pure signup posts will be ignored. A maximum of two entrants from a single user is allowed, with any puppet needing to be declared upon their signing up for the tournament.

Tactics:
Manager has been instructed to retain the slightly aggressive 3-5-2 formation the senior squad uses in order to build familiarity and consistency from the U-21 squad to the senior squad. This formation is intended to maximize the wingbacks' strengths without neutralizing the rest of the team's impact. The young wingbacks' stamina allows them to go forward and cautiously assist in attack to create goal-scoring chances while still being able to get back and provide numbers to stop opposition scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, the Centerbacks, Central Midfielders and Forwards create a solid pillar through the heart of the pitch that is intended to both be an alternative route to goal scoring and a multi layered obstruction to the opponents.

Notes:

After an underwhelming 57th DBC performance, the Ministry of Sport realized that they might have been overworking the “Revival Generation” and worried about how it may impact future tournaments. Thus, they laid the groundwork alongside senior squad manager Geraldo Zys to create the ZUSP: Zenician Uniformity in Sporting Project. The project is to develop a system that creates consistency between players and tactics that starts as early as possible so once they reach the senior side, they are perfectly adapted to the system and simply need to adapt to the intensity of senior side play.

This test run is the first attempt as the current coaching staff was hand-picked by the current senior side staff and taught the fundamentals of the aggressive 3-5-2 tactics that Zys runs. Should this project develop future superstars that help the Empire achieve success for the first time in several decades, the Ministry of Sport would most likely start incorporating other national sports into the ZUSP, if possible.

The young Starsian side is a very skilled team with a very high team chemistry and morale combining it with their quick paced game they are an opponent for all teams to watch out for.
They play in a 4-3-3 which through the match can be changed to various other formations suiting the game that they play however they are an offensive team loving to have possesion of the ball.

Anna Schwarz
A strong goalkeeper who is all physical power and is an impressive person, she is extremely tall for a girl with her 1,94 meters shes comparable to any male goalkeeper.
Her strong points are her good saves and willingness to take a risk, she had the most clean sheets of all youth pro teams last season and its only natural she was selected as first goalkeeper.
Her ability to organize and lead the defense is much needed and we expect good things from this up and coming player.

Leonora Snowden
Leonora already made her debut on the pro level in the Superleague with Mount Olympus where she is currently playing and is one of the most important youth players on that team.
Her endurance and speed aswell as defensive capabilities give her the ability to easily read the offensive patterns of her opponents and anticipate making her a valued asset on any defense.
Besides that she can also move up and attack often being known for the good long passing on her side.

Selena Corson
As daughter of former professional NT player Doran Corson she has big shoes to fill, currently she is doing pretty good as a midfielder being one of many new players with family ties.
However her ability to strategize is good and her passing accuracy is very high with a sense to see opportunities in all scenario's and try the unexpected at times making her a creative and diverse player.
As a person she still does have to mature somewhat, shes overall a bit girly and doesnt get along with older players all that well but in this team she fits right in.

Iris Olivier
Its the most important talent to come and her spot in the NT is pretty much guaranteed as soon as there is a vacant spot for her position in a few years from now.
Iris Olivier has everything a youth player needs, shes fast and has incredible technique and endurance but also her football IQ is very high being very good at set pieces such as free kicks and corners.
Iris Olivier has a leading role in the current team and hopes with any good result to speed up the process of breaking into the national team and also to gain experience to win a title with her own club.

The experience of dealing with youth teams, even if it was only as just an assistant manager, paid off quite well for Volheim as he is now a key fixture in the national team program and likely to stay so long as the success at both the youth level and the senior level sustains itself. Shifting his ability to communicate with the young players under his command from the assistant position to the manager position will be a huge question, but he will look to capitalize on his experience with the senior team and his time as Faeron's assistant to try and take the Young Marauders forward.

The keeper position for this team looks to be one that is going to rest almost solely in the hands of Propst, as the two behind him have not seen minutes at all for their respective clubs, although the female half of the Rinaldi twins does show extreme promise that she might yet one day be in net for the national team, that potential is still yet to be reached or tested. However the CAP keeper has played first team minutes for the Hurricane and is seen as their number one choice moving into next season and if a team of that pedigree trusts him to be their starter, then the Young Marauders should be able to as well. He has the talent for it for a good sense of where to be to stop most shots and the reflexes to get to those that he ends up not being in position for, making him a very solid choice and with high hopes of impressing enough to get consideration into the next senior national team pool.

In the defense, there is going to be a lot of hope and prayer that sheer raw talent will be enough to see the day through, as almost the entire crop of players are still in their club's reserve teams or as a depth option only for the first team, with only Krogsæter having seen considerable minutes with the first team and so he is a natural pick to one of of the starters. Flanking him will be the other two players who have seen some time with their domestic side's senior team, even if it is not significant, as Nikolaisen and Daecher get that call, both with the ability to float out wide as fullback if the formation is changed during the game. That flexibility and the experience could prove very useful for a team who are going not known for their defensive sturdiness, so being adaptable is quite a boon, and why a handful of out and out fullbacks were included in the roster and not just defenders who can only play in the center of the defense.

Once the captain of the senior Goldhorns, and a club legend at 1912 Stelburg, Raphael Klopfer is handed the reigns by the STFA of the U21 squad for the upcoming Di Bradini Cup. Klopfer, who had retired from the game just prior to the isolation, spent many years working as a development coach for the STFA before being made the U19s manager at the Bluebirds, his former club. Success in that role has been parlayed into the position as manager for the first youth tournament since the country’s return. And while one might remember Klopfer as the sturdy, defensive stalwart - his style of football is anything but. A manager who likes to attack the game, Klopfer will have access to a squad that fits his mentality quite well. You only have to look at players like Steffen Berlin, thought as one of the top young talents in the country before his move to Pasarga, Veljko Vadimic who was called up to the senior national team for ARC 1, and of course, the forwards: Uwe Seidl, the star who helped lead Stahl Sterzing to the top tier of football in the Stelburg region and Timotej Zakaijev, the young phenom who has been annihilating all kinds of records in the U19 league for Vrnovo Mesto - as a 16 year old. If you had to pick a weakness in this squad, it would be in the depth, especially at the back - this age group was strongly affected by the isolation, which meant some clubs pulling funding from lower levels of their academy. However, it is a solid squad in general, and under Klopfer’s guide has every chance of making some noise at the Di Bradini Cup.

A True Valhallan and a former u21s international for the Chicks himself, Zhamaletdinov will surely go down as one of the best players who never got to represent the full Terns senior side thanks to the years of Valhallan isolation. Having left his job as attacking coach at his native Surtsey, his new role as national u-21s boss saw him go all the way to the final in his first two tournaments, losing the first before triumphing at the second attempt. He very much sees his role as one focused on player development, but had nonetheless brought a lot of frustrated fans to the u21s with his style of attacking football, and forum posts wondering what a Terns side managed by Zhamaletdinov might look like are far from thin on the ground at the moment. Since Aalto’s appointment to the main job it remains to be seen whether those fans will stick around, but, people and Testiculos nominators alike are fond of successful teams, and Zhamaletdinov has certainly managed that. Not many teams have managed to retain the DBC, but even without the feted Niemi-Nijgaard partnership of the last two editions, the Chicks will be aiming to do just that.

A True Valhallan, Vauxhall Jansen makes up for his ridiculous name with a fine history of playing right back for Bjarnarey, the Terns, and a number of clubs in Vilita and Turori, and having been on the coaching staff at both Northbrook Diamonds and Bjarnarey in their most recent title winning seasons, as well as East Franz when they were the last Divisjon One team to retain the title, knows something or two about keeping a team that's at the top, on the top. With Einar Jepsen taking the vacant assistant role at the Terns, Jansen's was the name at the top of Zhamaletdinov’s shortlist, and will bring that wealth of experience and expertise that a title-defending team needs.

Highly rated centre-back Valentin Ernst has been handed the captain's armband after being a key component in the Chick's title winning side last edition, with the experience he's gained in Chromatik being a big boost to Zhamaletdinov and his side. He is joined at the back by Altermatt and Herzog, players who featured prominently from the bench last edition and in Divisjon One last season, as did the deceptively experienced Tchechenko, who has sealed a move to Lok. Cassia as a result. With Mika Jensen on the right a steady and solid presence, Zhamaletdinov has opted for something of a surprise selection on the left in the form of Jari-Andrej Coia - the lightning quick defender featured over thirty times for Novaya Sibir last season, turning many heads amongst the bigger sides in the process - many of which were in the Federation, but Atletik's acceptance of Sibir's request to keep him on loan for the coming season meant they got their man rather than any of the domestic sides who were in for him.

There may be some relative inexperience at the back and up front in this Chicks squad, but if they are going to manage to retain that title, the midfield is where they're going to win it. This starting trio is a very good midfield by any standard. Baptiste has gone from strength to strength in Semarland, whilst Nousiainen having spent a season at Atletik Težia has brought even more levels to his exciting attacking play. Meanwhile, seeing the name Valentin Brunel suffixed by the words Bjarnarey Flotilla does at least explain why Surtsey have dipped into the international market for midfielders this transfer window just gone, and when you watch his calm, direct, and efficient style of midfield patrolling, you really inderstand what made the Bargemen so keen to swipe him from their Norscelt rivals. The options from the bench are hardly slouches either, with Blankenbeckler and Kirkby in particular each getting plenty of first team experience last season, and Engebraaten already having done enough to convince Mytanija giants 1923 Esca to take a punt on him.

Curiously, all four of the strikers in the squad here were playing first team football on loan in the MVL last season, with plenty of goals shared between them, and in Eike-Rasmussen, a title-winner’s medal as well. Having scored en route to the last DBC win, Eike-Rasmussen is rightly thought of as the spearhead for this Chicks attack, but Grief is an explosive and talented finisher in his own right, so will chip in with plenty of counter-runs to confuse the opposition. Soldier and Weiss are perhaps considered to be less like the complete package than the two starters, but there's no reason to expect any less of them should they get game time, with all four having roughly the same amount of experience. Of course, as this is a Zhamaletdinov side, expect goals.

The Young Revolutionaries came so close to finally claiming the coveted Di Bradini Cup, only to be stopped on their tracks by a surprise called Elmyia. Yet another attempt at the trophy was foiled by the Vans of Qasden, and while most people are happy that our boys and girls still went home with a bronze medal to show for their efforts, the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft (SFA) remains unsatisfied. It is the Di Bradini Cup or nothing. Roman Aydarov keeps his job as manager of the nation's under-21 team, but his poor performance in the Brevity Cup has put Aydarov's managerial future with the SFA on very thin ice.

Things you should know about the SRS:

Once upon a time, there was the Imperium of Squornshelous, a militaristic, totalitarian state which took great pride in its football team. Squornshelous entered every World Cup from the 5th edition to the 41st, successfully qualifying all but once, and winning the 31st edition of the tournament. After World Cup 41, however, a civil war erupted which ended with the nation divided in to the democratic Confederacy of Squornshelan Remnant States, and the shrunken but still dangerous Imperium holding onto its island heartland. Both nations disappeared from the international stage for the next 40 World Cup Cycles. The SRS returned to international football for Cycle 81, and was joined by the Imperium during Cycle 84. During Cycle 88, another revolt in the Imperium destabilized the government so much that the nation essentially collapsed, and its constituencies applied for membership in the Confederacy. It was also around this time that Squornshelous/SRS arrived in Atlantian Oceania, having previously competed as an Independent. More recently, the SRS realigned itself from Atlantian Oceania to the new Arrosian coalition, and looks to continue making a name for itself there.

Though this will be just the second DBC participation for the SRS, the nation has maintained a junior national team for some time, though they have rarely played beyond the borders of the Confederacy. That organization has, for some time now, been managed by Morna Korenak. Known more as a man manager than tactician, Korenak has been well suited to the task of shepherding along the next generation of Squornshelan football, though we'll see how well she can adapt to running the same hyper-aggressive 3-4-3 that the senior team has adopted under Dudu Madeiros.

The darkest and heaviest (musically, not physically) team of the DBC is back. The Snowy Owlets' last outings at the DBC have been less than spectacular, so the Tikariotian Premier League once more is sending its best youngsters, including some dual nationals.

The fans of the Snowy Owls/Owlets also deserve particular mention. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick-off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. Then a lone drum will start to signal the rhythm and both players and fans alike will move in unison, each clap accompanied by a loud cry, the claps (and cries) speeding up, creating an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

A true footballing legend within Semarland, it seems fitting Demba Cisse is given the post of U21s manager as Semarland return to international competition. Whilst Cisse never represented the U21s on the multiversal stage, he was part of the very first Semarland squad that represented the country at the Baptism of Fire and 69th World Cup. He enjoyed a succesful playing career, starting out at FC Nuholm (where he is seen as one of their greatest ever players), before spells abroad in Polar Islandstates (with RSK Longyearbyen Town) and Cosumar (West Gundar FC), before returning to FC Nuholm where he retired. Coaching wise, he had a brief spell as a national team technical coach, and in the past he has also spent time with FC Nuholm's academy. This marks a new challenge for him, and he's excited to pass on his knowledge and wisdom to the next young generation of Semarland players.

About Huayramarcan Grassroots Football: Huayramarca has been known for being one of the few countries that hasn’t invested (until now) in forming footballers for its future, for having little to no infrastructure to promote players. Aside from the lucky ones that decide to test themselves in the already existing Liga 1-2-3 teams, without having a formal approach to tactics or real discipline, that jump to the top teams and try to fight for a position in the Senior National Team, there’s need to forge a new identity, as there’s growing awareness among fans and FA directors that Huayramarca will need, soon, a generational shift.

Things had to change and that’s where Omar Caicedo and Rodolfo Zelaya appeared suggesting, to the Huayramarcan FA, a new approach to prepare the talent across the regions of this vast nation and help them transition into the Senior NT, as its obvious that we won’t have Bryan Tello, Ian Mamani, Gabriel Sayritupac, Kevin Quispe or Juan Mamani for our entire lifetimes. In 1986, just about to begin the World Cup 91, the project was created and had plans to find a new manager for the Grassroots National Teams, one that would be a connoisseur of the methods utilised by Omar and Rodolfo, as that would be important to make a seamless transition through the entire National Team ecosystem proposed.

Many potential candidates took part from a course where the basics of the to-be-instituted-style were taught and refined among them, pretty much like a zero-to-hero course for many of them that would feature a capstone project, where they would not only showcase their abilities and what they learned, also challenged their understanding of the proposed tactics. After three months, a new name popped up, and that was Marcos Álvarez for the U-18 side and Luis Díaz for the U-21 one, both will be working together to gather feedback and improve their tactics towards the process required to let the players ready for the expected National Team jump.

The project took more time to start and fly, it was the year of 1987 when the reality seemed to begin a slow change, as the Huayramarcan Football Association put the program to work, asking the manager of this U-18 side, Marcos Álvarez, to create a roadmap to put his team into work and in rhythm for tournaments across the Multiverse to showcase them. After some work, he decided to take the ideas of Omar Caicedo when it comes to tactics, search for footballers across the whole nation and then sign Huayramarca for the prestigious RTC U-18 World Cup as a beginning for this team, one that will provide the players a good experimentation field to let their tactic framework function properly, against some of the top squads across the Multiverse, then the project will continue with the Di Bradini Cup and so on, as the players gather valuable experience for the future.

From those trials and scouting done, a group of 27 players have appeared for the U-18 and U-21 projects, but age constraints have forced the pool to increase its size to 39 players, as the FA has asked to send 26 players as a minimum to each tournament. This new pool features some interesting footballers, from fast ones, tough and technical, dual nationals who switched allegiance to Huayramarca and people from the very last corner of the nation, making sure to gather a good representation from everybody, be it Huayramarcans or people who are searching for a new opportunity in this country.

After the dismissal of Omar Caicedo and Rodolfo Zelaya, the project took a drastic change with the help of Blâás Âgínsôgnó, a Rulandese manager that in one of the weirdest movements possible, decided to take a new challenge and asked the Huayamarcan FA to be the manager of the entire NT structure, while Omar Caicedo covered his position in Dí Maozökê. Âgínsôgnó has decided to speed-up the process for new players in the Huayramarcan National Team, by teaching them the principles needed for them to break up into the ranks of the Condors in a future, as the team might need new blood sooner than later.

How We Play Football?

At simple glance, things doesn't seem that had changed a lot after Omar Caicedo left the national team, and so his ideals for the future prospects. Huayramarca has decided to brand her own style of football embracing offensiveness, courage and grit under the label of fulbo total, in an attempt to take Huayramarca back to her roots of football, just making some enhancements that will make this system competitive enough to be a competitive force.

Fulbo is a common mispelling for fútbol in the Huayramarcan dialect of Spanish, also refered as the way that people grow in the streets, neighbourhoods and all places of Huayramarca use to play the sport. In the traditional sense, Huayramarcan football tends to be physical, both in strength, and intensity that is required to perform in an OK level. From the random dusty pitches in the highlands to the state-of-the-art premises that some stadiums boast across the nation, players are asked to never give up, to give everything they can in order to achieve victory; to the point of exploit loopholes in the football rules for their advantage.

Centrebacks are used to be relatively strong, as they will also try to outpace their rivals in physical strength, displaying rudeness and being prone to perform some harsh tackling when needed; there's no fear to get carded, it's a matter of avoiding the rival to score against their team. People in the villages often use an idiom to refer to what they accept as a good centreback "Either the ball or the player, but not both." Another main treat of them is that they tend to provoke or annoy rivals by trash-talking, trying to disconnect them from the match and make their own duties easier. Often, they will play near the midfield in order to force the rest of the team to press the rivals, limiting the playing area to the rival's half.

Speed is useful for them, as they must be able to retreat and guarantee defensive numeric superiority when the rival tries to do a counter attack.

Midfielders: Although there are two clear roles here, being the destroyer and the playmaker, it can also be said that the role is pretty much indistinctive from who does it, as every one in this zone of the pitch is required to switch roles according to the scenario they might be facing at any moment; that's why this position is the most flexible under the big scheme of things in fulbo. As the name say, the destroyer is in charge to destroy any linking from the midfielders to the attackers when the Condors are protecting themselves from a counter, or avoid connections between defenders and the midfielders while the team is attacking, they can either tackle with clinical finesse or just aim to the rival's ankle, it all depends on how good they consider their rival, the better they are, the harsher will the destroyers act against those players.

The playmakers, in the other hand, can either be completely egocentrical or collaborative, that will depend of the very own personal treats of whoever takes the role in a very specific circumstance. Âgínsôgnó has given freedoms to the players in order to attack freely going in solos if they see a chance through, deliver the ball to a player that might be able to continue the idea of attacking or, simply, hold the ball until an opening appears or switching to destroyer and letting another player to find a gap that they might not notice.

Attackers: Tradition mandates two wingers and a spearhead, a forward that cautiously awaits a pass to slot it home. The wingers are instructed to serve the attacker or go through the defence and force a chance for themselves to score, similar to the defenders but not with the leeway to change sides, no, only instructions to provide enough tools for their decision-making process and promote more diverse ideas rather than focusing in a way to break through brute force. Âgínsôgnó also asks the attackers to bethe first line of defence of the National Team when the rivals commence a play, always through pincer plays or support from the creative midfielder; sometimes, the attackers can drop some metres to help in ball recovery efforts, then to start an attack with the help of the creative attacker.

The new Huayramarcan National Team, under the ideals of Âgínsôgnó, tries to makre sure that the ball can be held in the half of the rival team, as much as possible under Huayramarcan control, trying to create chances to break through the defence and score, or simply move the ball and cause fatigue on their rival as they try to chase the ball in vain. This style requires a lot of concentration from the players, stamina and need to collaborate and decide in a short time span, as dynamism is the name of the game, to never run out of ideas and outsmart the rival.

Considering the present with the Senior Huayramarcan National Team and the reality of the junior project, expect the coach to give priority to the players, as they had had some solid performances including a fourth place in this tournament last time. The expectations from the media are that a big part of this team will, hopefully, jump to the senior level in order to refresh some positions that may need that, as there are some aged players that might not have the bright ideas that this generation seems to have.

Álvarez took one thing seriously while searching players for the team, he wanted the fastest ones possible when it comes to decision-making processes and physical speed, something this team really exploits in the wings from Aramburu and Delgado who sometimes go up and help to attacking duties, then they return as fast as possible. They are always supported by a quite strong defensive core in the shape of Adame and Narváez, who tend to play strong and borderline when it comes to the rules, both possess a good aerial game, but Arteaga can be a bit loose while marking rivals.

In the midfield, a rhombus formation builds with one defensive midfield in the shape of Caicedo who tends to be an iron curtain when it comes to facing rivals, he won’t let them cross the midfield and get close to the defensive quarter. Meanwhile, there are two play makers with Aramburu and Delgado acting for the left and right sides, with the possibilities of seeing Aramburu going deep in the right to dribble defenders and prepare to shoot; while Delgado tends to go from the defense to the front, as his north is always connecting with Rumiñahui and trying to expand their influence by having a creative network between them, an area where they love to build chaos for the rival with passing in the most unpredictable of ways, setting order for the Huayramarcan attack in transitions.

The creative mids/wingers have the sole mission of feeding either Congo and Lijerón with passes. Lijerón has a fast-paced approach, he tries to outrun rivals and get near the box to either serve a pass to Congo or trying to score the goal by himself. Congo, in the other hand, has purged many defenders in the local leagues with Sendero Luminoso, his team in the heart of the Huayramarcan Sierra. His parents, who took inspiration of war criminal Nafuna Akongo, taught him to be as brutal as possible when attacking, even by sheer force or ingenuity, his mindset is tremendously powerful, as he works his way into the defenders to achieve victory… For him, “football is war” and he will try to be a “goal-scoring machine” to win it.
