Wodanstaat wrote:Good evening, everyone! I'm excited to rejoin NationStates (after years of inactivity on my main/original NS) to build the world of Wodanstaat as a literary-creative outlet of mine. Wodanstaat is a dark fantasy story set in a dreary alternate history (post-WW2), and I'm trying to organize my thoughts on how I want to present the story. This is where I felt impelled (and encouraged) to seek community support, as I am aware from my (reminiscent) past here on NS we have many creative and helpful persons here. To put it simply, here's what I'm interested and what I'd like help with:Wodanstaat is dystopia in a world of dystopias, and an incredibly paranoid, tyrannical, occult nation that only understands those outside of it in terms of utter annihilation, assimilation, or (and sometimes fortunately for the subject) ignorance. As such, the traditional format I'm familiar with for factbooking (an encyclopedic/Wikipedic style) would not work, as not only is Wodanstaat set in the pre-Internet past (1960s; technology is also somewhat stagnant) but also, more importantly, this is the kind of world wherein information isn't so happily and readily shared. As such, my idea for how Wodanstaat can be presented IC is via dossiers and profiles by foreign nations (primarily IC America and Britain), akin to CIA documents and reports, allowing for worldbuilding through the exploits of espionage and even secondarily for the nations writing the reports (as their commentary and rhetoric will give readers insights on the dynamics and nature of the reporting nations; maybe I can have Wodanstaat sometimes report on other nations perhaps?). This is what I'm interested in, and this is also the very thing I need help with, for while I was decent at the encyclopedic formatting of factbooks that was (1) years ago and (2) non-transferrable to the type of formatting I'm looking for. So, simply, if anyone can refresh me on how BBCode works, how I might use it to format these types of articles, and whatever other advice you feel it appropriate to share, I'll immensely appreciate it. Thank you.

I recently changed my overview a bit from regular humans to goblins in my nation and was thinking a separate factbook might be better for explaining. However I don’t know how to start/make it so it’s not just a list of their physical appearance and characteristics. Some writing advice would be nice
This is what I have so far for the factbook (not overview)

WELCOME TO VURAN. BEGINNING RADIO BROADCAST.
Welcome to the dieselpunk early space empire we call Vuran. Here, tanks and spaceships alike burn diesel, giant zeppelins pump black smog into the air as they fly, and vast orbtal reflectors compensate for the ludicrous CO2 emissions. Remember your gas masks, the pollution in some areas will kill you outright without it! But you can always just move to the moon, right?

I like it, but you can always add more. That's not to say succinctness isn't sometimes warranted, though. One thing I can say for sure, however, is that the images are too large. They dominate the screen once they're centered, which isn't great for the actual content.
