I wouldn’t be so sure. I recall Ark being very bitter when Lazarus repealed the treaty, in fact they were the only region that got him to actually post anything other than a shitpost.

Yeah, while we are pretty clear we have no intentions to attack Osiris or invade them, we still don't trust them fully to not try to do so to us. I really don't want to revisit it though. I don't dislike Ark though, and haven't spoken to them once since the treaty negotiations.

Given that they posted on a default flag to hide their true identity and this is their only post, I don't really take their comment too seriously.

If Osiris wanted to have a serious diplomatic negotiation they could have had it any time. We didn't proscribe their citizens either, so they could have also interacted us in that manner too. If they didn't wish to contact us then that's their prerogative and I respect that.

I believe that First Citizen (PM) Ellenburg made the right decision at the time, given all the available information we had. The fears and concerns we had about our treaty with Osiris that were then hypothetical, became reality. Defender or Raider wasn't the issue at all, but being dragged into a war with only Osiris as an ally or friend was.

I imagine with Bungie's current woes and the shaken hopes for Destiny 2's soon to come expansion, you might see Osiris's delegate sooner than expected.

Diplomatic Response to the Holy Utopian Empire allegations

Lazarus opened embassies with the Holy Utopian Empire in the hopes of postive and friendly relations with a region that abides by inter-regional norms.

It is disappointing that Holy Utopian Empire has taken the route it has to engage with a fascist region.

In line with a long-standing policy to oppose fascism, whether by diplomatic or military means, Lazarus will be closing the embassy it has held with the Holy Utopian Empire effective immediately.

As you might know, as I have become First Citizen, one of my goals has been to establish a stronghold or frontier for Lazarus, though without a good name and theme no one will obviously move there. You may send these names through a DM to me on discord, message me on the forum, or send a telegram.

Do not post these names publicly, as if we are to use a name then it announces it to wider NS for a mean-spirited individual to snatch the name from us.

We will be open for names for nearly a week, once this competition begins. Though names can be sent in well before the official start date, which is taken into account with this time frame.

Entry requirements: While the in-game poll will be restricted to residents of Lazarus, anyone can enter this competition.

Naming Committee

The naming committee shall review the submitted names to avoid a Boaty McBoatface situation, and decide upon six names to hold a vote over in-game.

If you wish to join this naming committee:

• Send a DM to me on discord, message me on the forum, or send a telegram.
• Being on the Lazarus discord server is going to be required for this if you want to join it, as it is the easiest way to review the names and vote upon them.
• Once six suitable names have been selected by the naming committee these will be founded as regions, and a vote will be held in-game by the Lazarus region for the best name.

Prize for the winning entry

The nation of the winning entry will be mentioned in the regional dispatch and on the WFE. The winner will be granted exclusive poll powers in Lazarus for a month. Further prizes or rewards may be provided, but may not be announced on Nationstates.

Is this really what a First Citizen with several government vacancies in their own highly inactive region should be focusing on? Building up an entirely new region from scratch? Speaking as someone who has done that several times, including right now in Alcatraz, I'd be careful about putting in a disproportionate amount of work relative to the reward you're likely to gain from it.

You don't achieve activity by doing nothing new, which I'd say is a fair definition of insanity. Simply filling vacancies for the sake of it doesn't accomplish anything, unless those put in those roles know what they are doing and what they plan to accomplish. I am happy thus far with who I have appointed to run Foreign Affairs, and when I appoint someone to Internal Affairs I intend for them to be the right fit too. Not to mention finding someone who will potentially rebuild our military from the ground up is to not be chosen lightly and thus far we've really filled the role for constitutional or legal requirements, which is something that has to change. I won't fill the other positions simply for the sake of appearances, as I want to fill them with nations that will do the work or be willing to do so.

There is a difference from inactivity and lack of focus or direction of active citizens or nations. RMB RP activity and willingness to do things has always been there, just not so much the direction. Not to mention activity is a catch-22 situation, as unless you actually direct activities for people to participate in people aren't going to get involved.

Building up an entirely new region from scratch?

This has had almost six months of on-and off planning and passing legislation as well as diplomatic discussions and treaty amendments with other regions, going back to at least May this year if not earlier for some discussions. Putting the structures in place is the important thing for any region, as you have nothing to build upon without it, and a stronghold/frontier isn't something put forward without thinking it through for a long while.

This is only one of many initiatives I have planned to start. It will only compliment, and not detract from what I am already doing. This will also create a use for a regional military and reason to maintain one well into the future, as well as provide another theme for us to role play alongside our existing one. Nations moving there and the work we do there will be entirely voluntary as well, so we can take as much time as we wish. I didn't expect going into this that we'd have one up in any less than six months to a year, once the groundwork was laid. Not afraid of a hard work or a long time-table.

I mean, hey, if this is what gets the juices flowing in Lazarus, I'm not here to judge. Just seems to me like an inefficient use of collective time and effort for a region that necessitates many of its resources be spent on its homeland.

The factors were removed that made it difficult the last times for sure. No civil war conditions for one. Looking forward to much better things with the NPO, and sure that's going to be the case.
