Known affectionately as "The Horseshoe" to locals and to many across TJUN-ia, Sherwood Field combines the raucous atmosphere of a college game with the surrounding local scenery that the region is known for. The big patch of grass in front of the scoreboard is accessible to fans, allowing for a unique viewpoint of the game we all love. While it certainly isn't the biggest venue in all of TJUN-ia, not just the NSCF, its warm and close-up atmosphere can certainly make the difference come game time...

ESTEROLOGY
Part 1: The Opening Gambit

Myana, Myana Island – It was a small yet nicely put together press conference being held at Myana Northwestern High School, a week after the Blue and White lost the Chromatik High School Gridiron Championship game against the Mt. Niar High School Anacondas. There wasn’t a lot of press – just the local paper, the Rebel, the NationStates College Football – Chromatika, and the Firehawk Rising. Everyone that was someone could’ve guessed the announcement that was to come – Nicole Estera hadn’t scheduled any other visits to other universities, nor had she even considered going anywhere else since meeting Naia Curentino two seasons ago – which, coincidentally, was the last time that she had won the national title.

“You keep playing like this,” Curentino had said to a then-Sophomore Estera, “And I’ll make sure to give you the keys to the Firehawks when you’re done playing in Myana. We need someone with an even head on their shoulders and the ability to make decisions quickly, and you’re definitely that person. Keep working on your mechanics, vision, and game knowledge, and understand that we’ll be following your career with interest.”

So she had. Sure, they had lost in the National Semifinals the season prior and then lost to Dante Flowers and the Anacondas in the Championship this time around, but there was no denying her pedigree when it came to playing Quarterback. Some would say that she was a byproduct of her defense – the Blue and White did have a defensive core that would put many collegiate programs to shame, meaning that she didn’t have to do much in some games – but she’d shown on tape that she had an accurate arm, the willingness to take a hit to make the play, and most importantly, the knowledge of when she needed to step up to make that play for her team.

So it was that without much fanfare, being recorded for the Felswyr State University Firehawks’ social media page and the Myana Northwestern High School Blue and White’s social media page and not much else, that Nicole Estera signed her Letter of Intent to become the next Quarterback of Felswyr State University – one of the marquee programs in the NSCF. Since entering the competition in NSCF 22 – this will be their ninth season in the NSCF ranks – the Firehawks have accomplished the following:

NSCF 22: Lost in Final to Cold Hill University
NSCF 23: Lost in Semifinals to Sadeg State University
NSCF 24: Won Championship over Trent State University
NSCF 25: Didn’t Make Playoffs
NSCF 26: Won Championship over Green City University
NSCF 27: Lost in Quarterfinals to Green City University
NSCF 28: Won Championship over Raynor University
NSCF 29: Lost in Final to Cold Hill University

That’s three championships, five championship appearances, six semifinal appearances, and seven playoff appearances in eight seasons. The names Sarai Michelle Bradwyn Gwenderyn and Kadesh Odika are synonymous with success at the collegiate level. Nicole knew the shoes that she was stepping in to replace, and she relished the challenge. It was going to take a lot out of her to excel at the next level, but with her skillset and mentality, she had no doubts in her mind that she was up to the task.

After the ceremony, after answering some questions, she stepped out to head to the Myana Junction Airport, where a plane was waiting to take her to Felswyr. The next phase of her career – and the story of Felswyr State football – was just beginning.

Jackson Zuercher Pt 1.

He went through spring and fall camp and now he was here, Jackson Zuercher was currently on the bus and he knew that this was his first game and it was against of course.. LeBois Santura University a team he heard his brother talk about a lot, all be it in nice and rude ways. All in the same it was BSU and BSU as he knew was a problem, he always wanted to get a gauge on what the happenings were on teams he was facing. So when he knew BSU was coming up Jackson did some research and found out most of the BSU roster was returning for a rerun of sorts and Bobby Dials was back, and will probably come back again for his senior year so Jackson knew that he was going to have to deal with Dials for awhile. Then again he didn’t mind, although he wasn’t a fan of play at BYU even though his brother did, to Jackson it felt like he was just Blakes brother. So he might as well show that he isn’t just Blakes brother but his own QB, that has his own talents, but that would have to wait for awhile as something snapped him out of his thoughts when his Tight-End, Johnny Wall pointed at something and what caught his eye was a painted “B” with BSU’s colors, and soon a smile grew on his face and apparently his Tight-End had the same idea so he heard Johnny speak up.

“Alright boys!” After everyone took a good look at him he continued, “You all see that B up there? See those BSU fans waving it around?” Most of the men nodded and that’s when he said “Me and Jackson want that B! We are gunna go in there and win that B for BYU ya hear?” he got a yell from the players, from what Jackson could tell Johnny was already a leader on this team. “Alright boys, lets call this the Battle of the B!” Then Jackson started to chant and soon the rest of the bus followed the lead and soon enough they were chanting BYU as they entered the away locker room, after that they went quiet and started to lock in Jackson walked onto the BSU field and took a breath smiling as he got a good look of the stadium. He has been here before to watch his brother play but it is way different because, he is about to make his debut with this BYU team against a pretty big rival. So the game was about to start and Jackson took a breath, so he headed onto the field carrying the Utahn flag, next to Toma Bawu carrying the flag of the school. He ran next to the large Banjian O-Lineman, he felt like a small next to him even though he was 6’3” almost three inches off from Bawu. But they ran and Jackson felt alive as he and Bobby met in the middle for the coin toss.

There they picked a side, Jackson was forced to pick heads after a coin flip, it came up as tails and well BSU started with the ball. All Jackson could do was shake Bobby’s hand and say “Good luck man, I say you play against my brother and he has a lot of respect for you man.” After that Bobby responded and with that Jackson headed off to the side line and watched the Defense take the field, Jackson and the defense knew the type of game BSU played so hopefully they could lock down Bobby, Reno Thai, and their wide-receivers Antonio Reddick and Saivion Ware. Thus the game started and he was welcomed into the world of college football.

Coastal Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:

Aqua Division
1. J. H. Yadasky High School Heroes
2. Coastal Academy of the Arts Sculptures
3. City of Larhai High School Rush
4. West Rhoni High School Warhawks

Wildlife Division
1. Lhor Central High School Flying Jellyfish
2. Pride Academy Cyclones
3. Harbour High School Shipmen
4. Rhoni School of Architecture Gradients

The Storyline:
The Coastal District has been reconstituted to the Coastal Conference - and the J. H. Yadasky High School Heroes sit atop the Aqua Division, as QB Cade Stases enters his Senior season. The Schima Bas Quarterback has decent accuracy that will need to be utilized with so many new key players, but it definitely puts them ahead of the Coastal Academy of the Arts Sculptures, with Freshman QB Jackson Dottmeier at the helm and Junior WR Kevin Burr. City of Larhai High School Rush are a distant third - Junior RB Parry Hein is a load to take down - while the West Rhoni High School Warhawks, who were once the leaders of this Conference, find themselves at the bottom - Freshman QB Laria Billar has a long ways to go - even if she is a terrific athlete.

In the Wildlife Division, the Lhor Central High School Flying Jellyfish have a young, studded core with QB Beck James, MLB Ivanova Ysimir, and RB Naomi Hansen-Dailler now. Pride Academy Cyclones will contend for the division with Seniors QB Portia Ivansol, HB Mina Dillon, and OLB Cana Hickonn. Harbour High School Shipmen don't have a QB, but do have a great ILB in one Theodore Gossimer, while the Rhoni School of Architecture Gradients will break in Freshman QB Kaelan Ediller, who's got a rocket arm.

The Season

Matchday 1
Coastal - Aqua
Coastal Academy of the Arts 12–10 City of Larhai High School
West Rhoni High School 9–37 J. H. Yadasky High School

Coastal - Wildlife
Pride Academy 49–20 Rhoni School of Architecture
Harbour High School 6–14 Lhor Central High School

Cade Stases goes off for four touchdowns - two in the flat to George Killion - as the Heroes hit it off. The Sculptures' Jackson Dottmeier leads a game-winning drive, the Cyclones' Portia Ivansol has five touchdowns in Pride Academy's win over the Gradients, and the Flying Jellyfish hold the Shipmen to 250 yards with Naomi Hansen-Diller going off for 161 yards and two scores.

Matchday 2
Coastal - Aqua
City of Larhai High School 13–14 J. H. Yadasky High School
Coastal Academy of the Arts 30–26 West Rhoni High School

Coastal - Wildife
Rhoni School of Architecture 17–7 Lhor Central High School
Pride Academy 27–6 Harbour High School

The Heroes survive the Rush with a last minute goal line plunge by Killion, the Sculptures' Dottmeier finds Kevin Burr with three minutes left to help them over the Warhawks, the Gradients surprise the flying Jellyfish as Kaelan Ediller finds Sky Deel in the corner of the end zone, and the Cyclones dominate the Shipmen.

Matchday 3
Coastal - Aqua
West Rhoni High School 40–34 City of Larhai High School
J. H. Yadasky High School 40–34 Coastal Academy of the Arts

Coastal - Wildlife
Harbour High School 27–13 Rhoni School of Architecture
Lhor Central High School 38–7 Pride Academy

The Heroes keep rolling - Stases puts up another four touchdowns to dominate the Sculptures. The Warhawks, on the other hand, keep playing touch - Laria Billar can ball. The Flying Jellyfish return to their winning ways by forcing three turnovers from the Cyclones, and the Shipmen finally pick up a win as Theodore Gossimer having fifteen tackles and two forced fumbles.

Matchday 4
Pride Academy 12–24 J. H. Yadasky High School
Lhor Central High School 22–29 Coastal Academy of the Arts
Rhoni School of Architecture 19–10 City of Larhai High School
Harbour High School 43–20 West Rhoni High School

The biggest surprise is the Sculptures' Dottmeier helping their team over the Flying Jellyfish; the Shipmen beat up fellow bottom dwellers Warhawks, while Dorothea Destiller has five sacks on Portia Ivansol to help the Heroes over the Cyclones, and the Sculptures' Jackson Dottmeier shocks the Flying Jellyfish by running away from Ivanova Ysimir and scampering thirty yards into the end zone late.

Matchday 5
Coastal Academy of the Arts 49–14 Rhoni School of Architecture
J. H. Yadasky High School 40–7 Harbour High School
West Rhoni High School 20–16 Pride Academy
City of Larhai High School 14–23 Lhor Central High School

West Rhoni shocks Pride Academy as Laria Billar finds Lina-Maria Bassake on a forty-yard rope late; Lhor Central returns to winning by throttling the Rush, the Sculptures hang forty-nine on the Gradients as Dottmeier continues to ball, and the Heroes do to the Shipmen what they've done all season long - just throttle them.

Matchday 6
J. H. Yadasky High School 57–10 Rhoni School of Architecture
Coastal Academy of the Arts 30–20 Harbour High School
City of Larhai High School 22–23 Pride Academy
West Rhoni High School 10–37 Lhor Central High School

The Heroes just keep blowing out teams on the other Division. Cade Stases is balling - Kurtis Seelo has developed into a real weapon. All the other favorites win - Portia Ivansol leading the Cyclones to a two-minute drive that ends the game, the Flying Jellyfish force three turnovers, and the Sculptures' Dottmeier finds Kevin Burr three times.

Matchday 7
Rhoni School of Architecture 59–23 West Rhoni High School
Harbour High School 33–3 City of Larhai High School
Pride Academy 30–16 Coastal Academy of the Arts
Lhor Central High School 24–10 J. H. Yadasky High School

The Flying Jellyfish are the only team to take down the Heroes - their defensive power is amazing with Ysimir bottling up the middle. The Cyclones finish the 2-2 cross-division record with a big game from Running Back Mina Dillon, the Shipmen take the wind out of the Rush's sails, and the Gradients beat up on the other worst team in the Conference - hanging fifty-nine.

Matchday 8
Coastal - Aqua
City of Larhai High School 30–27 Coastal Academy of the Arts
J. H. Yadasky High School 33–29 West Rhoni High School

Coastal - Wildlife
Rhoni School of Architecture 13–58 Pride Academy
Lhor Central High School 23–7 Harbour High School

The Heroes survive the Warhawks' bid for an upset - Stases is balling - while the Rush drag down the Sculptures with them; the Cyclones carve up the Gradients, and the Jellyfish force three more turnovers - Ivanova Ysimir is really leading this team.

Matchday 9
Coastal - Aqua
J. H. Yadasky High School 31–6 City of Larhai High School
West Rhoni High School 13–34 Coastal Academy of the Arts

Coastal - Wildlife
Lhor Central High School 20–13 Rhoni School of Architecture
Harbour High School 34–16 Pride Academy

Though the Heroes are leading the Division still, the Sculptures are really hanging around - Kevin Burr has been fantastic for Freshman QB Jackson Dottmeier. The Flying Jellyfish survive the Gradients - with a goal line stand in the waning moments, while the Shipmen trip up the Cyclones - two turnovers being too much to overcome.

Matchday 10
Coastal - Aqua
City of Larhai High School 42–9 West Rhoni High School
Coastal Academy of the Arts 26–10 J. H. Yadasky High School

Coastal - Wildlife
Rhoni School of Architecture 16–0 Harbour High School
Pride Academy 6–16 Lhor Central High School

Despite upsetting the Heroes in the final game of the season, the Sculptures will fall short as the Heroes win the Division. Still, Jackson Dottmeier has emerged as a viable option at Quarterback. The Rush cement their status as the third best team. The Jellyfish play the Cyclones to an ugly yet controlled game to win their Division, and the Gradients actually post yet another great result to end the season - despite having a -106 Point Differential.

Final Table
Coastal Conference - Aqua Pld W L PF PA PD
1 J. H. Yadasky High School 10 8 2 296 170 +126
2 Coastal Academy of the Arts 10 7 3 287 215 +72

3 Rhoni School of Architecture 10 4 6 194 300 −106^
4 Harbour High School 10 4 6 183 202 −19^
* City of Larhai ahead of West Rhoni due to H2H PD (+27) after H2H Result (1-1).
^ Rhoni School of Architecture ahead of Harbour High School due to H2H PD (+2) after H2H Result (1-1).

MVP: J. H. Yadasky High School Senior Quarterback Cade Stases (3,218 Yards, 38 Touchdowns, 5 Interceptions)

A bit of a down year in terms of numbers, but Stases had more control of the offense than before this season. He knew the playbook inside and out, limited his mistakes, and played well in the big moments. He's a fantastic prospect.

HERE COMES THE IRISH!

Université du Saguenay : A Factfile.

Motto: 'Vita Dulcedo Spes'
Established: 1792
Type: Public research university
Location: South Bend, Saguenay, Quebec and Shingoryeo
Religious affiliation: Non-denominational
Endowment: Q£ 12.1 billion (2047)
President:
Principal:
Academic Staff: 3,000
Students: 18,769
Undergraduates: 12,795
Postgraduates: 5,974

As for the institution itself, Université du Saguenay (official known as Université du Saguenay à South Bend) is considered one of the best universities in Quebec, in particular for its undergraduate education. While excellent across the board, Saguenay is in particular renowned for its world-renowned Cavani School of Business, Lawrence A. Gong School of Architecture, and humanities programs. The university is also renowned for the need-blind admissions policy, as well as its ability to meet 100% of a student’s demonstrated financial need- something that only 5 Québécois institutions can proudly say so.

The university's unique culture, that promotes both the scientific knowledge and religious education, results in the school and its alumni network (only rivalled by St. Croix and Farrer) having close ties to the Québécois elite, in both Saguenay province and those in Montreal the economic capital and Quebec City the artistic and administrative capital of Québec. The Sagueneen elite of both Catholic and Buddhist denominations, seeing the need of a classical institution in Saguenay without having to travel to Québec City, built UdS in considered the capital of Quebecois traditional culture and folk traditions in 1792. Since then, Université du Saguenay has been a centre of Quebecois Religious Thought and also the Quebecois Thought. Atlantian Oceania is a region notable for its centrist political scene with penchant for hereditary power, and Quebec is among them, for its leftist leaning is partly contradicted by long history of purging republicanism - with the most recent purge happening just eight years ago (2034). This thought has partly influenced the Fighting Irish to stand out, as UdS and the Saguenay province are considered the baton of Classical Quebecois Conservatism.

C.C. Youngblood is off to the QFL after winning two Tiger Bowls in what was a fairly memorable era for the the Fighting Irish, as the Saint John Steelers would successfully bring him back to the city where he had led Yongma College, Saguenay's intra-denominational rival, a decade of success before the Saguenay job. Saguenay did not hesitate from making a move right after, promoting longtime offensive coordinator Sara Lee Hampton to the head coach position twelve hours after his announcement at the end of Saguenay's 2061 QIS season, and the life went on.

A year and half would pass between then, with Saguenay finishing with a New Year Six bowl win and the run to the Tiger Bowl final where they would come up short in a defensive collapse against LNU. But the promise is there in this squad regardless, with a gunslinger quarterback in Raul Sebastien Santos, a powerful receiving corps including all-Queebcois Lucan Moddejonge and QIS freshman of the year Kieran Atkinson-McNair and an extremely aggressive defence led by nose tackle Wilhelm Cygnus and safety Leon-Andre Balytska. It remains to be seen whether this squad can make a difference in the NSCF, of course, but the promises are there and at least they will be exciting to watch.

OFFENCE

Co-Offensive Captains: RB Thierry Warnick, SR - OG Hugues Nimischuuch, JR

The biggest point of departure between Youngblood and Hampton era have been on the offence. While Hampton, a young-and-coming coordinator for Saguenay, had full playcalling abilities and whatnot on the offensive side of the ball, her promotion into the head coach position have no doubt changed the outlook of a team that plays nowadays more aggressively and explosively than it did under Youngblood.

Of course, it is also enabled by some of the players Saguenay has on board, and it does start with Raul Sebastien Santos. A true freshman whose heroics at The Chromatik Institute have made him an immortal figure in the Chromatik high school lore, the true freshman has looked impressive in his first QIS season where he would pass for over 3000 yards and 25 touchdowns in a year where they had not dropped out of top 5 in national rankings and would make it to the Tiger Bowl final. His future as a Fighting Irish quarterback looks as bright as it can get, with him so far meeting the expectation to be the latest in the line of hall-of-fame quarterbacks to have come out of school which would include Sir. Dexter Ahn, Alton McNair, Ian Lautner and Ernest Bello.

And while Santos's success has come in part to his willingness to throw as a gunslinger, it is also enabled by their recruiting successes on the skill positions as of late. Lucan Moddejonge is a tall, bucking star wide receiver on the team who is expected to be a top ten pick in this summer's QFL draft, while Kieran Atkinson-McNair, the son of Irish legend Alton McNair and nephew of Kieran Kweon-Atkinson, is a durable tight end whose 1,098 receiving yards and ten touchdowns actually pushed him ahead of Santos in what would become controversial rookie of the year selection. All's good between the dynamic duo though. Offensive line is a solid unit, though there's a fair bit of inconsistency. All-Quebecois left tackle Maurice Mercer-Kayonde and Hugues Nimischuuch are excellent in both pass and rush protection, and Gong Jae-Woo looks promising as the right tackle. Their issue, however, lies more on the inside protection with Angelo Federici relatively weak on rush protection and Tara McDonagh having issues with low snaps. Considering the school's reputation with great offensive linemen, especially on centre....this is concerning. May be a better option on guard.

DEFENCE

Co-Defensive Captains:DT Wilhelm Cygnus, GR - SS Leon Balytska, JR

Hampton's decision to retain Jose Bernat as the defensive coordinator was once viewed as a decent move by the fans, who knew that with the change in athletic director, there was a relatively little money left to be spent on a coordinator. Well, for most part. The defensive collapse in the Tiger Bowl match may have changed some of that pro-Bernat sentiment, enough to the point where fanbase remains divided on their defensive coordinator, whose penchant for hyper-aggressive defence (with limited success) has drawn eyebrows.

As for the players themselves, the positional strengths lie in defensive backs and defensive tackle, where Cygnus-Sung duo have stood tall in last couple of seasons. Wilhelm Cygnus, the Chromatik tackle, is considered to be the best defensive player on this game in particular, a major key to collapse the pocket or to prevent opposition from rushing (kinda key when facing teams like Northern Moravica). A bit inconsistent on the edge rusher side with questions past their top edge rushers in Pandi and Joh-Waabshkii'ogi, so it is expected that Bernat use multiple blitz packages involving as many bodies as possible, including safeties Balytska, Vaillancourt and Brodeur-Kiser, to make up for those shortcomings on the top-end. A decent cornerbacks tandem this time is a positive, but their tendency to get penalised may be a problem on the international level.

For Raynor University they enter into this season not exactly knowing what to expect from their team as their vaunted receiver corps last all three starters and nearly the entire starting defense also graduated. This is a team who is clearly in transition but also will be wanting to keep up the pressure on the rest of the conference and division rather than meekly give up their position as a contender away. Teams like the Rockets are supposed to be able to reload rather than rebuild but their failure to land many of the prized recruits during the recruiting window does cast some doubt about that ability to simply reload the arsenal. There could be a warning here about trying g to place too many eggs in one basket, as they were heavily invested in Banija recruits but were then burned by their failure to land a commitment, as most of the Banija recruits failed to make a pledge to any university before signing day and the Rockets were unable to shift their recruitment strategy quickly enough to make up for the fact that they were going to strikeout on their all in on Banija talent.

What can be expected is what yiu would normally expect from the Rockets, a high powered offense that can put up points in bunches and quickly. The question to whether they will be able to truly compete with the rest of the conference and try to shake the hex that the other division has over them is how quickly their new starters on defense can adjust. Defense is oft a second thought at the University but it will be upon how the Rockets will have to build upon to be a conference championship contending team this season. The quarterback play is going to likely be at an elite level and the skills positions are full of talent, but it is defense that wins championships and when the Rockets were in contention for titles, they had a defense that could at least slow down the opposing offenses. Two title game appearances and a championship trophy that is displayed with much pride in Raynor City is all the proof that the Rockets need and the reminder that they are quite capable of playing at an elite level with even only a bend but do not break defense, something head coach Andy Magnusson will hope to bring back to Vahalla Falls this season.

Meanwhile in Mar Sara the Raiders are looking to build upon a strong outing last season after a few down seasons and re-establish themselves as the premier university for gridiron within the Empire, despite the Rockets better access to the prestigious Magnus Academy and all the fine recruits that come from the program. Redshirt senior Jericho Swayne leads this team and the Chromatik quarterback that went unheralded during their recruitment has helped turn the Raiders program around from an also ran in the conference to having battled with the Rockets as well as the University of Mancodas for the Conference crown, something that seemed almost impossible before his arrival in Mar Sara. It seems a bit of reversal of fortune with the Raiders having won the recruiting battle for several star recruits last season and then having what looks to be the better of the quarterback play heading into the season compared to their capital city rivals, which will make both editions of the Battle for the Royal Saber quite interesting this season, as the Raiders seem to have the edge in near everything at the start of this season.

Both Vanorian schools will be eying the division crown and they will be competing with the familiar foe of Bowerstone University from Anthor, who in the Vanorians first season in the Zephyr was the surprise package and gave both Empire schools as well as the Felftic powerhouse a run for their money late into the regular season. Whether this will be the Bowerstone that gave both teams a lot of trouble that season or the one whom the teams treated as a glorified scrimmage in following seasons is a huge question mark and on paper what could the biggest obstacle to either of the Vanorian schools taking the division title and going into the conference championship game. Trismegistus University rounds out the division and little is know about them although early suggestions from scouts say to expect an offense with a bit of pep in their step, which could make for shootouts throughout the season in the division, although the other half of the conference does sport some teams who seem to have more steel in their defense. Those tilts will be another rendition of what happens with an immovable object against unstoppable forces and could provide for lively ties. Right now though, the division seems to be contested once more between our two schools with Mar Sara with the early edge but Raynor City has seen this script before and torn it to shreds, time to see if they can make history repeat itself.

"Man…I don't know about the rest of y'all but I'm feeling good about this!"

"Yeah, I'm feeling good. I'm feeling reallll fucking good. I'm feeling like busting up that Zuercher kid and getting my name nice and good up the box score."

"You're killing me man," Bobby Dias said with a smirk on his face. "You're killing me Mack."

The freshman defensive end's energy was infectious. From his first moment with the team, the 6'1 wrecking ball had a smile on his face born from his total conviction that he would win his individual matchup and help his team win the battle. That sort of energy was good to have on the team, everyone on the team believed they could win, but nobody expressed it quite like Mack King did.

"Yeahhhh I'm killing you like I'm gonna kill those Utahns! I've had Cortez and Toma's pictures as my background all week, I'm telling you I'm ready!"

"Fuck yes, that's what I want to hear, keep that attitude up, keep your energy high, let's get this shit!" Alabaster Red was totally supportive, as the captain of the defense it was up to him to keep his half of the team full of energy, of belief, of total self-confidence. More alpha mentalities brings the team's level up even higher, if he can manage them, if he can get them on the same page. Saying he was going to bust up an opposition player, that was a little much for the more honorable Alabaster Red but hey, having a defender that totally bought into the defensive scheme, that totally bought into Alabaster Red as his leader, that totally bought into his coach Steve Valentine, and had the determination to make the most of his special gifts? That was the key to a successful D-unit.

For Mack King though?

He was living the life. He was tall enough, built like a muscle mausoleum, a freshmen at the most popular Cardenaoan college, it was all looking up for him.

What did Mack want out of this game?

He wanted a victory. He wanted four sacks, 6 solo tackles, 2 assisted and three forced fumbles for good measure. Was that realistic? Maybe not for you. But for Mack King? He could do it.

What good did winning this game bring him?

Mack just wanted to paint the B, that's all. Paint the big ole B that Bingham had up in the mountains behind the city. Though the top loop of their B was a shovel, while through the bottom was a pickaxe. Mack King wasn't a scholar. Mack King wasn't at college to go to college. Mack King was simply a football player, but even he knew the shovel and pickaxe of the Utahn Theocratic Republic. It was an homage to the Bingham university team being nicknamed the miners, a name born from the copper mines of their nation. LeBois of Cardenao had one too, a big ole B painted blue and orange in LeBois colors. But Mack had a thought, he had a plan. If…when the Broncos won, he was going to gather a little posse and head up into those Bingham hills and paint their B in those LeBois colors. If he lost……well he'd heard rumors of BYU planning to paint the LeBois' B in the blue and white of Bingham, and Mack King simply could not let that happen.

No, this was the time to win.

Blue Jays Season 2: This time it's make or break

After a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad start to the season in NSCF 29, going 0-4 with Craig Kelly at the helm, questions were asked about the future and if it has him in it. After the fourth straight loss, Kelly was lucky the fences were refurbished recently, because fans were legitimately trying to break in and remove him from the job by any means necessary. When I say any means necessary, I really mean assassination. The fans were all trying to break into the facility and assassinate Craig Kelly.

You know you've done something wrong when the fans are trying to kill you.

After this, Kelly definitely got the memo, and decided to ball out before he was thrown out (and then most likely subsequently be killed by very drunk and very depressed tailgaters in the parking lot). Kelly's efforts really turned the program around, going 6-3 after the dry spell to start the year.

Hopefully, Craig Kelly can ride the momentum of a Pioneer Bowl victory all the way through next season, but he won't be alone. With the multifaceted sophomore QB Jerry Atkinson leading the offense, one of his best receivers, William Chang, graduated after his senior season, but his slot was easily filled by the Utahn hotshot, Kabe Heaton.

On the defense, the star addition bolstering the mediocre unit last season is another Utahn, this time it's Reo Taylor. The freak of nature, Taylor is a natural blitzer. Not only can he blitz and tackle however, but he is also a lurk legend. Kelly will definitely be relying on him to shut down slant plays or option runs that devastated the defense last season, as well as force a couple turnovers in zone coverage over the middle to kickstart the offense in a way.

Both of these Utahns will definitely be looking forward to the Week 12 matchup under the lights, the second running of the S.P.I.T. Bowl, between BYU and UC-Prairie. Overall though, I will be looking forward to see if Craig Kelly can shake those first year nerves, and maybe, just maybe, get over the hump and into the playoffs. We'll just have to see how it unfolds!

A Monument To Power Football:
Harrowitz Pledges To Field The "Hardest Team To Tackle" Football,
Cold Hill Anticipates Rowles To Lead NSCF In Passing

Image
With a couple of big offseason additions including former Ratzupalfu University of Nature running back Ragnar Sampson,
the Governors are loaded with physically imposing players on the offense, and they intend to take full advantage

Pretty sure no one expected anything less from this team - an offense revolving around the sheer force and brute of big Benjamin Merik was never going to be anything people would dare to call finesse-centric. After running for 715 yards and taking up nearly 40% of the team's carries last season, Merik came in poised to be the star on this offense. With a guy like Rylan Rodgers Jr as his backfield running mate, having the kind of talent that demands a near split in workload is impressive in and of itself, but he's even more of a monstrosity now. At 6'4" and having filled out that huge frame with two hundred sixty pounds of muscle mass, Richarsdon strength coach Louis Mentzer has referred to this freak of nature as his "magnum opus."

"Listen, Gideon [Kearse] was about the most physically impressive human being I've ever seen, but his dad, Justin, handled a lot of his physical training, I can't take full credit for that. But this kid?" Louis yanked the running back over into the camera view - "This is my greatest achievement. Two hundred sixty pounds of lethal athlete. My magnum opus, if you will."

With Merik poised to carry the ball three hundred times, everyone they play already factors in extra ice baths following the showdown with the Governors...but it gets worse.

Last season, true freshman tight end Mugisha Mulogo emerged as the team's most dynamic receiving threat. He finished second on the team in yards, catches, and led the squad in touchdown receptions. With back-breaking speed, Mulogo's burst and size make him a nightmare in the open field - give him any green grass and you'll have to bring him down at full speed. He projects to be Isaiah Hunter's favorite target this season.

But neither of these guys are on their own.

Joining Merik in the backfield is big Ragnar Sampson, who dominated for Ratz last season as a true freshman before our Egretfriends decided they could no longer stay in the NSCF. The former top recruit out of Ranoria was hellish in stormy Ratzupalfu, bringing unmatched physicality and hell-bent determination on teams that really just wanted to get out of the rain - we all know Loyola's only good in fair weather, after all. At nearly Merik's size, Sampson's raw talent will demand a significant workload, but Merik doesn't seem to mind sharing the spotlight.

"Sharing the workload helps keep us fresh," he said after practice Thursday, "Of course I'll take the ball as often as my number is called, but running backs and pass rushers both benefit from some rotational work."

And at tight end, Mulogo's newest understudy is just as imposing. Big freshman Hezekiah Thomas may lack the afterburners of his counterpart, but he's a beast of a blocker and refuses to go down on initial contact. The Governors were fortunate to land the top-10 recruit at the position, and Harrowitz has indicated be believes it's everything that an offense should be.

"Some teams that can't run the ball use the short passing game - screens, slants, et cetera, to supplement the consistency of the running game. We're going to do something similar with these big tight ends, only its to add on to the physical wear and tear on the defense. With Isaiah's accuracy, he'll hit these guys in stride, and I strongly believe this will be the hardest team to tackle in football."

Time will tell - and backed by an always elite defense, this Governors team will look to take back the conference they believe is rightfully theirs while Viktor Rowles assumes the mantle of the man in charge in Cold Hill. With highly recruited Hebron Naphtali giving the program their best back - potentially - since Brannon Hillis, Rowles is still going to be the star of the show.

"We're always looking to have the best passing offense in the tournament," said head coach Chris Dale, fresh off pledging an NSCF championship to the now departed Benoit Youngblood, "That's the identity of this team. And I believe Viktor is the kind of player who can live up to that expectation."

Gladiators Throttle Lava as JJ Garret, Jr. Struggles

JOHNSTON MEMORIAL STADIUM, STARAMARA, URRHED ISLAND - For one Quarter of football, it looked like the Staramara Tech University Lava could have a good start to the season. Isaga Duhaga found paydirt in the first drive to finish a eighty-three yard drive, while Declan Rickard's two point pass from Logan Oakley was broken up by Aurana Mikel to preserve a one-point lead. Then, the Second Quarter came, JJ Garret, Jr. returned to the same level of play as the season prior, and the Lava fell off a cliff.

The second year Quarterback committed two turnovers while completing 11 of 18 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown as the Lava would only score one more touchdown as the Gladiators dominated the rest of the game to prevail 34 -17 at Johnston Memorial Stadium to the dismay of the Lava faithful. Logan Oakley was the star of the day, completing 21 of 32 passes for 319 yards and four touchdowns as the midrange passing game really worked for the visiting Gladiators. The Lava's third down defense was the biggest culprit, as the Lava went a crazy 11 of 16 on third down.

"We just couldn't get any momentum going in the middle two quarters," commented Head Coach Laverna Getz after the game, "They did a great job frustrating our flow and taking control of the game. It's a long season, though - we know we have the pieces to make an improvement from last season, and we're going to make sure to do that."

"I messed up," admitted JJ, "I didn't see the rusher coming on the fumble, and on that interception, I should've thrown to the other side of Laak. We'll go back to the film room and figure it out."

Staramara Tech will try to get back on its feet as it hosts Sadeg State before going on the road to Felswyr.

ESTEROLOGY
Part 2: Just a Start!

SKYHAWKS GRIDIRON PARK, SADEG, DRAWKLAND - Sometimes, the game of football can just be so simple.

The start of Nicole Estera's Quarterback career for the Felswyr State University Firehawks couldn't have gone worse. On third and four from the twenty-five, Estera was sacked by Matthew Montgomery, with the resulting fumble picked up by Outside Linebacker Kasen Schnieder, who returned it back nineteen yards for the opening score. Thankfully, the Firehawks were able to settle her down with some solid running by Sydney Thomas as the Ranorian had a blitzing thirty-one yard scamper to the end zone.

It was in the Second Quarter that Estera had started to get going. Well, at the 06:43 mark anyway. It was then that the Skyhawks had a sixteen point lead. It was then that Head Coach Naia Curentino had taken her aside and just told her to play her game - the passes on time, the pocket presence, the being on schedule. She had taken the words to heart - finding Nero on a rope up the left sideline for her first score, and a pass in the flat to her favorite target, Jen, to get within two points at halftime.

The Third Quarter came and went, with Sadeg State a point ahead. Skyhawks Gridiron Park was at full throat. The two teams exchanged touchdowns in the beginning of the Fourth Quarter, and then Sydney Thomas was stuffed on fourth down, followed by a sack of Isaac Hext with less than 2:30 remaining.

That left one drive left. Three timeouts. Eighty-three yards.

Deftly dodging between the pressures being thrown at her, she got the Firehawks to midfield in just four plays. A timely carry by Sydney got the Firehawks to the forty-two yard line before they called a timeout with a minute and forty-five seconds left. It was then that the Skyhawks started to send more exotic pressures Nicole's way.

A handful of plays later, it was twenty-one seconds left, the ball at the Skyhawk nine yard line, everything on the line - two or so chances to win it all.

She thought of the legends that had been on the field for the Firehawks before her - Sarai Gwenderyn and Kadesh Odika. They'd been in these situations before, and prevailed. What was expected of her was to continue that trend.

So, she went out there, took the snap under center, and noticed that Jen was on single coverage with a linebacker. Her throw was where it needed to be, and her sure-handed teammates caught the ball for the winning score.

As she celebrated with her teammates her very first win as a collegiate starter, she made sure to rein herself in.

It was just the start.

MORE THAN A CITY, GREATER THAN THE SCHOOL.

Université St. Croix : A Factfile.

Motto: '成人材之未就 均風俗之不齊'
Established: 1643
Type: Public research university
Location: Joongyeong, Joongyeong Federal Province, Quebec and Shingoryeo
Religious affiliation: Non-denominational
Endowment: Q£ 21.3 billion (2041)
Chancellor: Nelson Cocteau-Hamel, Baron Hamel (57)
Vice-Chancellor: Segolene Swift (54)
Academic Staff: 4,765
Students: 22,363
Undergraduates: 13,115
Postgraduates: 9,248

It has taken a decade for Université St. Croix to come back to the NSCF after a decadelong absence, and the Bleu et Blanc are looking forward to keep up their ascent after their successful return two years ago. Being located at the St. Croix district, just ten minutes metro ride away from the renowned Quartier Calanien, the hub of student life, bistros and related academic establishments, St. Croix students, the faculty, the alumni and the Capitoliens all across the Multiverse welcome the fans across the Multiverse.

In terms of collegiate athletics, the Bleu et Blanc are consistently among the most successful in most sports the athletics department sponsor team/individual participation, with their particular strengths in gridiron, Women's basketball, both association footballs, Men's volleyball and fencing teams. Among them, most fans both home and abroad know the Bleu et Blanc football team the best, for they have not only won the second most number of national championships, but have made their mark as every capitolien's true blue in college football. This year was a yet solid year for the Bleu et Blanc program, with a couple of national championships won in Women's footy and an expected deep run for both fencing championships, and football did come close where they secured themselves another top 5 finish after a NY6 bowl win even after large graduation of its players.

As for the university itself, Université St. Croix is renowned for its particular strengths in most fields, but in particular the humanities and social sciences, which has been renowned for its bred and butter. Its Faculty of Arts and Sciences, especially fuelled by all of its eighteen colleges, is funded with consistency and high rates of trust and confidence by the Quebecois Government, who do take particular interest in the university and its students. It is perhaps destined from the university's origin into the 1640s (it is 2047 in Quebec right now), with St. Croix being the nation's only university for the first 120 years of the history. In 1648, the Quebecois Government had built the Seonggyoongwan, eventally the Seonggyoongwan Faculty of Arts and Science of the University itself, with both theological and practical trainings emphasised to prepare its students and alumni into civil service. Since then, as the university was renamed St. Croix in dedication of the St. Croix plains the university campus was built upon and took upon more imperial, comprehensive identity, the Université St. Croix has stood as the pinnacle of postsecondary education in not only Quebec and Shingoryeo, but also the Quebecois Commonwealth as well.

Onwards?

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Jan 18, 2024 4:22 pm

A lot can change in the NSCF. Once upon a time, the names "Trent State" and "Green City" were names to be feared and that was reflected in our schedule...but last year saw us reach our lowest ebb with neither school playing in a Bowl Game and now, our lack of OOC schedule right now only points a bleak picture...one of dying momentum as we enter the Esportivan age. Entering this season, both schools wanted something to hope for...but will they get it if their schedules are incomplete?

Trent State and their Feathercaps know they are rebuilding...the Jessica Daniels Era was about to get underway and with many new faces on the Offence and on Special Teams, the Caps knew that things would be tough to start with - especially HC Johnny Bridgeford. NSCF24 was a long time ago and you could tell that he was almost struggling to try and regain some national pride...but UCBP were here so any complaining would have to wait. The Warriors from Baker Park are an opponent we know all too well and we knew that facing the MinDiv Champs on Opening Day was going to be tough...but we did put up a good fight. UCBP were restricted to only 27 points in this game with Lionel Blackwood managing 4 TDs (2 each to Maurice Carlson and Nathaniel Cobb) while it was 3/4 on PATs for Greg Mead. Considering all the changes, Daniels did well to get 21 points on the day with 3 TDs - 2 to Yurilka Zelinskaya and 1 to fellow debutant Xi Jiening - while new kicker "Jenkins" (they only go by "Jenkins", no one knows why) went 3/3 on their PATs. It was still an L to start the year with but considering everything, 21-27 wasn't too bad.

Meanwhile, Green City and their Royal Eagles were hungry...hungry for some sort of bounceback after last season's 5-8 disaster, their worst since joining the NSCF system. Alisha Obi Michel was back for her 3rd year looking to try and bring back the glory days of this school and that would start in Tri Ann against the debuting Centrale Pointe Cranes. To be fair to these hosts, they did a good job on frustrating the Royal Eagles' entire squad as nothing seemed to fully click and the Cranes did manage to score 2 TDs with Hiro Giro 12 finding HO CHO twice. But Bailey Omos missed both PAT attempts and that would be that for the hosts. For us, we managed only 16 points with AOM scoring 2 TDs of her own - 1 each to Freeman Namnganda and Carlton McSwane. Colleen Fletcher Christian is still the kicker and she managed 1/2 on PATs and a 36 yard FG to end the scoring breakdown. 16-12 wasn't fun at all to watch, but it's still 1-0 on the board and they will take it.

You know the drill by now: opponents will swap for MD2 before the Earth Trophy on MD3. This may end up being a long season...or a short one if the OOC schedule remains as empty as the winter night.

TSU SCHEDULE (MINERAL Conference, Mineral Division + 3 Non-Conf)
Week 1: vs UCBP (CBP) L 21-27 (0-1)

"The Break Plans"

Even with the small fallout immediately following the announcement, Brooklyn felt sufficiently lighter when she returned to school that Monday. The decision had been made. There was sure to be more consequences on the way, good and bad, but the uncertainty of the situation was gone. She was a Skyhawk. Her future, at least for now, was solidified. Finally, she could focus on finishing her senior year, which was more of a waiting game than anything. She was a senior whose college choice was made, after all. There’s nothing left to play for, all she needed to do was burn some clock.

You can’t burn clock by turning the ball over, though. Unfortunately for Brooklyn, this meant that she did have to still give some effort in her classes. There were a couple weeks left before finals, and even though she was mostly taking easy A classes to lower her workload, she still had to deal with the dreaded physics lab. Brooklyn needed that credit to graduate, so dialing it in was not an option.

She earned a B- grade on the lab midterm, thanks in no small part to the tutelage of her lab partner Spencer Harrelson. The relief of getting an acceptable grade, followed by the stress of all the other things going on immediately after that exam, caused Brooklyn to fall behind in the course once again. At least now she was being a little more helpful when running the in-class experiments and lab reports.

Even so, this didn’t stop Brooklyn’s mind from going blank when reading half the content in the final exam review packet.

“Looks like you’re gonna need another tutoring session,” Spencer teased when he sat down next to Brooklyn at the beginning of class.

“What makes you say that?” Brooklyn replied in a mocking tone.

“I could see the faces you were making at the packet. It’s not going to hurt you, it’s just words on a page.”

“I’d rather get sacked by Leo Cross twenty times than have to take this exam. The faces are necessary.”

“I don’t know who that is or what that means, but I’m going to assume that’s bad,” Spencer shrugged as he pulled out his binder for the class. Even sitting next to Brooklyn for most of a semester, he still hadn’t picked up much about sports.

“You don’t know Leo Cross?” Brooklyn groaned. “You’re hopeless, man. Absolutely hopeless.”

“I can’t be bothered to learn the names of a bunch of jocks. I have more important things to worry about.”

“Oh yeah?” Brooklyn looked down at Spencer’s bookbag, which had a scattered assortment of pins adorning the outside. “I assume all those little things on your bag are from very important matters, too. Totally academic pursuits.”

“Uh, right.” Spencer cleared his throat. “Regardless, I don’t play many games during the semester anyhow.”

“So what do you do after the semester ends?”

“A lot of reading. I’ll play games for an hour or two, but I don’t like vegetating in front of the screen all day.”

“I can relate to that,” Brooklyn nodded. “I’ll usually work out once a day when I have nothing else going on. I get antsy if I’m stuck in the same place for too long.”

“Interesting that you say that.” Spencer smirked. “Considering that you’ve decided to go to Sadeg State.”

“Huh?” Brooklyn did a double take. “Wait, you know about that?”

“How could I not? It was all over the news last week. I know you were struggling with the choice, and curiosity got the better of me, so I tuned in.”

“You watched my stream?” Brooklyn was flabbergasted that Spencer cared enough to do so.

“Of course. You know, Brooklyn, you’re actually a pretty good speaker. I don’t know if you wrote that little presser yourself, but you delivered it quite well. I was impressed.”

“I did write it myself, thank you very much,” Brooklyn scoffed. “And what do you mean impressed? It was just a couple paragraphs.”

“I dunno, just the way you delivered it.” Spencer cleared his throat. “It was a lot more eloquent than you usually are when we talk in class. It caught me off guard, that’s all.”

“I’m not that great at it. I still have plenty to work on.”

“Better than me at least.” Spencer shook his head. “I hate giving presentations. Even when I’m really confident in the material, which is always, I’m always afraid I’m going to fumble it. I keep stuttering and it’s always awkward.”

“Fumble, you say?” Brooklyn wore a smirk of her own. “Do you even know what that is?”

“Yes,” Spencer retorted. “It’s from football.”

“So … what is it?” Brooklyn raised an eyebrow.

“It’s when … the …” Spencer bit his lip in thought. “The guy with the ball gets tackled really badly. Right?”

“Alright, that’s it! This is officially embarrassing.” Brooklyn facepalmed. When she looked down, she caught another glimpse at the pins on Spencer’s bookbag, and suddenly remembered her promise at the beginning of the semester. She was going to get a sports pin on it, one way or another. “I’m taking you to a football game. That way I can explain everything to you.”

“Are you joking? It’s the end of the semester. I know you’re taking BS classes, but I actually have studying to do for the next few weeks.”

“The pro football season lasts until the end of the year. You yourself said that you don’t do much besides reading once the semester’s over, so I know you don’t have anything else going on. My dad works for the Spartans, so we could get tickets for free. And that way you don’t have to sit in front of an oh-so-dreadful screen for three hours. I can explain all the terminology and tactics, so that you don’t have to live the rest of your life being a clueless nerd.”

“I take so much offense to this,” Spencer sniffed. “If I cared about sports I could learn them easily. There’s lots of literature on the subject I’m sure, I don’t need you-”

“Reading about stuff isn’t the same as experiencing it.” Brooklyn interrupted. “Practical application is important, isn’t that what Ms. Hardy says about this class all the time? Actually seeing the concepts in real time helps solidify it in your brain better than just getting lectured on it.”

“... I hate that you’re right,” Spencer muttered.

“If you interacted with me outside of this class you’d find that I’m right very often.” Brooklyn stuck her chin out triumphantly. “Okay, once finals are over I’ll shoot you a text about it. Just make sure your Sundays are open on break.”

“Fine.” Spencer looked like he wanted to say more, but the teacher Ms. Hardy got the class’s attention and launched into her instruction before he could.

Brooklyn crossed her arms and sat back in her chair, satisfied. Maybe if she taught Spencer a thing or two about ball, he’d be a little less insufferable in the spring semester.

The last few weeks of the semester breezed by for Brooklyn. Her easy classes were easy enough for her to cruise through, and Spencer did help tutor her enough to get through the lab final without too much trouble. She only netted a C grade on the exam, but that was good enough by Brooklyn’s standards.

The week after the semester ended, Brooklyn started scrolling through the schedule of the Sadeg Spartans: the last team her father Dustin played for, and also his current employer. She found the exact game that wanted to see. That weekend, the Spartans would be at home against the Esmereldane Bison. Not only was that set to be a solid matchup, but Grid Corps legend Leo Cross was a member of the Bison. It would be an easy way to show Spencer one of the most iconic defenders in recent Drawkian history.

Now came the tougher part: actually asking her dad to get the comp tickets for her without raising too much suspicion. Brooklyn inviting Spencer to this game was a purely academic pursuit, teaching that geek a little culture while also paying him back for his help over the course of the semester with some recreation. Of course, Dustin was unlikely to interpret it the same way. Brooklyn couldn't lie about who was coming, though, because Dustin was sure to check up on them at some point during the game. Thus, the difficulty.

“Hey daaaaad?” Brooklyn walked into the living room with the typical sweetness in her voice, making her intentions clear.

“What do you need this time?” Dustin narrowed his eyes and turned his attention from the TV to Brooklyn.

“Could I have a couple tickets to the Spartans game this weekend? Doesn't have to be in the box, it could be anywhere.”

“A couple? How many do you need?”

“Just two. I'm inviting a classmate from school,” Brooklyn said as vaguely as possible.

“A classmate?” Dustin raised his eyebrows. “Do I know this person?”

“Mom does. It's the guy that helped me in my physics lab class this semester.”

“A guy, huh?” Dustin furrowed his brow. “I don't recall anybody like that.”

“It's not a big deal,” Brooklyn said quickly. “He's just a hopeless nerd who doesn't know anything about football and I want to teach him. Payback for the study help he's given me.”

“I see.” Dustin made a face, but relented after a moment. “No problem then, you said this weekend? Against the Bison?”

“Yup.”

“I can do that. Remind me if I don't do it tomorrow.”

“Okay.” Brooklyn leaned in to give her dad an exaggerated kiss on the forehead. “Thaaaaanks dad.”

“Anytime, BB.” Dustin clapped Brooklyn on the side before turning back to regard the TV.

It almost felt too easy, but Brooklyn wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Now to get Spencer on board, not that she expected him to have any scheduling conflicts.

UNN: Koronki Crows crush UoA Eagles on NSCF debut

As the University of Adelsstedt Mountain Eagles left the field at half time at Centennial Field on the back of an Isabella Messerschmidt 31 yard field goal, players and supporters eyeing the 7-3 scoreline may have hoped a similarly close second half would give the first Ubernordwinds college to compete in the NSCF a welcome first win. Instead, the experienced Crows representing the Koronki University of Technology, from Dod Rava put right the penalties, errors and missed third down conversions that had masked the extent of their domination in the first half, and ran up a cool 35-3 win that revealed that, just as in the World Baseball Classic, the gulf between international sports and the highly prized domestic sports scene of the Land of the Ubernordwinds may be larger than initially thought.

The Crows' offence put 473 yards and 5 touchdowns into the Mountain Eagles: but for some big holding penalties, they would have passed 500 yards of total offense. The Mountain Eagles, by contrast, barely managed to scrape past 250, held back by a very conservative passing game called by head coach Mark Zimmermann. Starting quarterback Heinz Fischer went 7-of-13 for 58 yards before being replaced after struggling to get the offense moving as he was held to 0 rushing yards on 6 attempts (a 19 yard loss cancelling out his gains); Jón Sigurjónsson went 13-of-17 but had just 66 yards as he relied on checkdowns and could add only 15 yards rushing. Rudolf Paunovic rushed for 44 yards and Emil Nielsen reeled in 5 catches for 30 yards on a day of distinctly uninspiring offensive stats for the Mountain Eagles.

Things had looked promising in the first half as the defense, led by Jeremías Sigurgeirsson, Dag Lunne, and Bernhard Volmering, had frustrated the Crows' offense and forced penalties to stop all but one scoring drive. But the 2 first half sacks were not added to as the Crows began to pick apart the Mountain Eagles secondary with some precision passing. Messerschmidt, who scored the only points, missed a field goal, though it would have made no difference to the overall scale of the rout. "A lot of work to do on getting up to speed," says coach Zimmermann. "This is a new program, playing against some big, experienced sides, and I was proud of how we played, we just didn't get the result we wanted."

Delta Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:

Neon Division
1. East Rhoni High School Kayaks
2. Compass Coastal Academy Cartographers
3. Coast Guard High School Guards
4. Anderson H. Kim High School Chimera

Apex Division
1. Lorentine Central High School Majestics
2. Ming School of Business Traders
3. Randan High School Rapiers
4. Jatho Agricultural High School Farmers

The Storyline:
Isn't this an interesting conference. A school from the Heartland, three from the Mountain to form the Apex Division, while four Coastal conference teams make up the Neon Division. First in the Neon Division, it's the return of the Kayaks of East Rhoni High School - with Junior Quarterback Jill Westhaven, Senior Running Back Park Min-Seol, and Senior Center Nevin Ilstead. Westhaven is a pocket passer with limited mobility but superior vision - and having a Center like Nevin Ilstead will also help her, given his ability to call out protections. Running Back Park Min-Seol rounds out the arsenal for the Kayaks, being a dual-purpose threat who can both pound the rock and have a soft pair of hands on the backfield. The Compass Coastal Academy Cartographers will lean on Sophomore Running Back Theodore Erickson, the fastest player in the country. Their Quarterback is Cree Elliott, a Freshman with stature, composure, and quite an arm - while Sophomore Outside Linebacker Ryandi Possomillier is a bullet off the edge. Coast Guard High School has a wild gunslinger in Sophomore Quarterback Evalynn Jester and a reliable Tight End in Freshman Jared Illioi. Rounding out the Division is Anderson H. Kim High School - led by the ever-present Senior Middle Linebacker Lilac Ember and a dual threat Quarterback in Duran Figg.

The Apex Division is wide open. Lorentine Central High School caught the eyes of many pundits because of a trio of new starters. Maya Jilleron, their new Junior Quarterback, finally steps into the limelight - her calling card is her ability throw with either hand and at crazy angels - while Sophomore Running Back Yasmin Jungsten is a load to take down. Add in Freshman Cornerback Milo Carson - who's freakishly tall at 6' 9" - and the Majestics may surprise many teams this season. Their biggest threat will be Ming School of Business - led by Sophomore Quarterback Andy Rolstof, a diminutive yet sneaky fellow, Freshman Wide Receiver Drew Candelier, another speedster, and Sophomore Free Safety Wright Rullon, a true all-around safety. As for Randan High School, the graduation of Pavel Ingram has led to a bit of a Quarterback by committee system; their team will be led by the amazing Senior Strong Safety Rick Pynd - a hammer of a player - and Sophomore Running Back Halai Durston, who's very durable. For Jatho Agricultural High School, it's all just trying to win two games - Senior Running Back Kevin Ulm will try to do too much, while Junior Defensive Tackle Ezekiel Cameron is a rare bright spot on the defensive side.

The Season

Matchday 1
Delta - Neon
Anderson H. Kim High School 19–22 Compass Coastal Academy
Coast Guard High School 24–29 East Rhoni High School

Delta - Apex
Ming School of Business 24–19 Randan High School
Lorentine Central High School 26–9 Jatho Agricultural High School

Ryandi Possomillier has three sacks, Cree Elliott leads six distinctive scoring drives, and the Cartographers do just enough to survive the Chimera, while the Kayaks' first game of the season involves coming back from eight points down in the Fourth Quarter, walking off on a fifteen yard pass from Jill Westhaven to Park Min-Seol. The Traders' Drew Candelier takes an end-around for the go ahead score against the Rapiers, and the Majestics' new trio put away the Farmers with ease, three touchdowns scored by Yasmin Jungsten.

Matchday 2
Delta - Neon
Compass Coastal Academy 24–50 East Rhoni High School
Anderson H. Kim High School 24–20 Coast Guard High School

Delta - Apex
Randan High School 29–17 Jatho Agricultural High School
Ming School of Business 14–10 Lorentine Central High School

The Kayaks blow out the Cartographers - as Jill Westhaven pours on six touchdowns through the air - while the Chimera upset the Guards behind solid play by Duran Figg; the Rapiers pull away from the Farmers late behind two forced fumbles by Rick Pynd, and in the first battle between the two touted teams, it's the Traders' Andy Rolstof that finds paydirt with a minute and twelve seconds left for the go-ahead score.

Matchday 3
Delta - Neon
Coast Guard High School 34–27 Compass Coastal Academy
East Rhoni High School 32–9 Anderson H. Kim High School

Delta - Apex
Lorentine Central High School 33–27 Randan High School
Jatho Agricultural High School 13–24 Ming School of Business

East Rhoni keeps rolling - Park going off for 177 and two scores this time - as the Guards stick it to the Cartographers while they're down, Jared Illioi with three touchdowns. Lorentine Central keeps on going as Maya Jilleron is starting to get into focus, while the Traders return to kick down the Farmers with Wright Rullon grabbing two interceptions.

Matchday 4
Lorentine Central High School 37–23 Anderson H. Kim High School
Ming School of Business 7–0 Coast Guard High School
Randan High School 14–7 East Rhoni High School
Jatho Agricultural High School 23–20 Compass Coastal Academy

In the first day of cross-division play, Jatho Agricultural pulls off the biggest of upsets - Cree Elliott sacked three times by Ezekiel Cameron in the loss while Kevin Ulm goes off for only the third game in the Farmers' history of over a hundred yards. The Rapiers' defense, led by Rick Pynd, throttle the Kayaks, the Traders shut out the Guards - Rolstof and the offense hold onto the ball for more than thirty-eight minutes - while the Majestics score four touchdowns on the Chimera en route to a rout.

Matchday 5
Coast Guard High School 3–14 Randan High School
Anderson H. Kim High School 17–7 Jatho Agricultural High School
Compass Coastal Academy 42–24 Lorentine Central High School
East Rhoni High School 13–14 Ming School of Business

Uh, Kayaks? The Traders make it zero for two for East Rhoni, edging by the leaders of the Neon Division on a late connection between Rolstof and Chandelier, while the Chimera beat the Farmers in a battle of lowly programs; the Rapiers' ground and pound work on the Guards, and the Cartographers bounce back from their loss to the Farmers by putting up forty-two on the Majestics, Lorentine Central simply not being able to put up with the threat that is Theodore Erickson.

Matchday 6
Anderson H. Kim High School 10–10 Randan High School (16–13 OT)
Coast Guard High School 16–3 Jatho Agricultural High School
East Rhoni High School 30–35 Lorentine Central High School
Compass Coastal Academy 12–9 Ming School of Business

That's the third loss in a row in cross-division play for East Rhoni, as the Majestics score with a minute and nine seconds left to pull of the nine-point comeback - Milo Carson's pick-six being the key play that turns the game around. The Chimera outlast the Rapiers in double overtime, the Cartographers edge past the Traders in a defensive battle, and the Guards win the game that they simply had to against the Farmers.

Matchday 7
Randan High School 23–20 Compass Coastal Academy
Jatho Agricultural High School 20–28 East Rhoni High School
Lorentine Central High School 13–23 Coast Guard High School
Ming School of Business 37–23 Anderson H. Kim High School

East Rhoni was eight points away from getting swept by the Apex Division, but they do just enough. The Rapiers have really turned their season around by going 3-1 in cross-divisional play, finalizing it with a last second field goal to put away the Cartographers; the Guards; Evalynn Jester has a mistake-free game to lead the Guards past the Majestics, and the Traders pull away from the Chimera in the second half to prevail.

Matchday 8
Delta - Neon
Compass Coastal Academy 50–23 Anderson H. Kim High School
East Rhoni High School 40–17 Coast Guard High School

Delta - Apex
Randan High School 33–27 Ming School of Business
Jatho Agricultural High School 3–18 Lorentine Central High School

Compass Coastal puts up the rare fifty points on the Chimera - it turns out Cree Elliott can throw when there's not a lot of pressure - while the Kayaks return to their winning ways in divisional play. The Rapiers' tripping of the Traders really puts the Apex Division in turmoil - they're throwing less than fifteen times a game - while the Majestics score six field goals in their win over the Farmers.

Matchday 9
Delta - Neon
East Rhoni High School 23–26 Compass Coastal Academy
Coast Guard High School 9–12 Anderson H. Kim High School

Delta - Apex
Jatho Agricultural High School 26–37 Randan High School
Lorentine Central High School 33–31 Ming School of Business

East Rhoni loses yet again, as Theodore Erickson sets a school record with 191 yards rushed in the Cartographers' win; the Chimera trip up the Guards, the Rapiers' Halai Durston has another four touchdowns, and the Majestics shocked the Traders with a late score from Yasmin Jungsten.

Matchday 10
Delta - Neon
Compass Coastal Academy 32–33 Coast Guard High School
Anderson H. Kim High School 3–12 East Rhoni High School

Delta - Apex
Randan High School 21–3 Lorentine Central High School
Ming School of Business 30–9 Jatho Agricultural High School

Despite all their midseason struggles, the Kayaks will win the Delta division - even if they can only score four field goals in the game against lowly Anderson H. Kim High School. Despite the Guards beating the Cartographers, they'll finish at the bottom of the division. The combination of Ming School of Business destroying the Farmers and the Rapiers' thorough domination of the Majestics will mean that it'll be Randan High School and their approach of running the ball 80% of the time that will represent the Apex Division in the Conference Championship.

Final Table
Delta Conference - Neon Pld W L PF PA PD
1 East Rhoni High School 10 6 4 264 186 +78

*Anderson H. Kim High School ahead of Coast Guard High School due to H2H Result (2-0).
^Randan High School ahead of Ming School of Business due to H2H PD (+3) after H2H Result (1-1).

MVP: Randan High School Sophomore Running Back Halai Durston (1,781 yards, 26 touchdowns)

Never fumbling throughout the regular season, Halai Szelar Dohansty Durston was the workhorse for the Rapiers on their run to a surprise division title. Neither the fastest nor the most bulllish, Durston was notable for just wearing down the opposition throughout the game and having his strongest runs in the Fourth Quarter. What a find.

MATCHDAY 1

Escuela Nacíonal DCPF 37-17 Hathathia High School Pirates

Just under 70,000 Cardenaoans tuned in to view the country's best soccer club trot out a high school football team as Escuela Nacíonal DCPF took on the Hathathia High School Pirates. Despite all the attention, the game was slow to get started with the first points coming at 9:39 in the first quarter, when Hathathia senior kicker Ryan Townsend made a 37 yard field goal. La Escuela finally got going with 8 minutes and 40 seconds on the clock when they scored their first touchdown and they never looked back. Junior quarterback Brandon Benson had a solid display, going 18/29 in the air with three touchdowns and adding seven rushes for 13 yards. Senior wide receiver B.J Calhoun had a great showing, catching all three of his targets for 28 yards and two touchdowns. For Hathathia, sophomore QB Stan Aniol Dereschi had a mixed statline, completing 70.4% of his passes but only going for 174 yards on 19 completions and throwing two interceptions, though he did find Ammon Tart for a touchdown with 36 seconds left in the second quarter. Senior running back Mack Mason had a great game, getting 99 yards on seven rushes and getting a score, while also catching three of five targets for nine yards in the air. Senior linebacker Greg Tereshinski was dominant defensively, recording six solo tackles, five assisted, and one tackle for loss.

Ficilian Point 17-30 J.C. Evermore Academy

Coming into the game with more or less equal odds, it took for the fourth quarter for one team to separate themselves from the other and seize the victory. The Academy did it on the back of 391 all purpose yards, with junior quarterback Patrick Massaquoi going 21 for 27, 282 yards, and one touchdown while adding four rushes for ten yards. Sophomore Pokey Wilson built on his surprsingly good freshman season by catching all five of his targets for 75 yards, while star running back Zayne Echols had a quiet day on offense, pulling in 59 yards from 13 carries and two receptions for nine yards but on the defensive side of the ball as a linebacker he was very productive, securing six solo tackles and four assisted, with one tackle for loss. Senior QB Nico Weston had a decent day at the office as he went 18/28 for 239 yards and two touchdowns while running twice for five yards, though he was sacked three times. Junior WR Andrew Legnfish was electric, the tall, powerfully built lad caught seven of his ten targets, good for 97 yards with a 23 yard long. Senior combo wide receiver/cornerback Kyle Session was decent, pulling in four of five targets for 41 yards and defensively recording one solo tackle and a pass defense, but he excelled as the team’s kick returner, fielding five returns with a 22 yard/average gain, one of the better marks from this first week of football.

Academia Cardonia 17-27 Skyview Mountain Academy

This match between two middle of the pack teams proved to be a middle of the pack game in terms of entertainment, the game started with three field goals before the Skyview Mountain Academy Fliers scored the first touchdown of the game. Junior quarterback Peppi Klerkx showed why he’s rated so highly as a recruit as he went 19/25 in the air for 234 yards and two touchdowns while also adding two rushes for zero yards. Senior TE Mo Walton was his favorite target, earning ten attempts with eight catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. Senior safety Horace Clark turned in a performance of the highest caliber as he recorded four solo tackles, three assisted with two tackles for loss and a forced fumble as he single handedly shut down his side of the field. For the capital city side Academia Cardonia, it was a game of disappointment from their three stars. Junior running back Andrew Kun Wah Lee, entering the season as one of the best backs in the nation, went eight times for 37 yards, though he did secure a touchdown, and 11 yards in the air off two receptions from five targets. Senior QB Thomas Romeijnsen had a brutal day at the office, while he was good in the air with 220 yards and a touchdown on 23/30 throwing, he got sacked a massive six times, with the last one looking particularly nasty. Finally, senior WR Grant Ennis, route runner extraordinaire, caught seven of ten passes for a meager 39 yards. There were some bright spots for the Academy as junior WR Jaquan Wallace went off, collecting nine of 10 targets for 139 yards and a touchdown to boot. Defensively, senior linebackers Dustin McCully and David Guerra were immense, combining for 26 tackles between the two of them, with six coming for a loss.

Riverstone International School Otters 20-23 Timberline High School Wolves

This matchup between two teams who likely have little to look forward to was actually an entertaining affair, as the teams traded blows to enter the fourth quarter with the Timberline Wolves leading 10-6. It was a great end to the game as the Riverstone Otters took the lead 20-17 with three and a half minutes left before Robbie Stephens marched his team down the field to make the decisive final score when he passed to Avery Nichols with a minute and six seconds left. For the Otters, the player of the game was senior running back Cortney Allen, who had 54 rushing yards, 65 receiving yards, and two rushing touchdowns. It was hard to judge junior QB Gavin Jaramillo, sure he completed 70.7% of his passes for 272 yards, but he didn’t throw a touchdown and his single rushing attempt was good for a grand total of zero yards. Nick Robinson stole the show in the passing game as he recorded 12 targets, catching 11 of them but only going for 73 yards while junior linebacker Eric Colubiale was the defensive standout with his seven solo tackles, two assisted, and tackle for loss. Praise must also be given to senior punter Austin Pace, who averaged 51 yards on his four points with three within the 20 and a long of 63, though one did go for a touchback. For the Timberline Wolves, sophomore QB Robbie Stephens announced himself in style as he completed 28 of 37 attempts for 304 yards and two touchdowns, while showing his pocket awareness to evade the Otters defense and only get sacked once. Supposedly star senior running back Tony DeWitt had an awful day on the ground with his 13 rushes only getting 30 yards, but his passing game showed a little more promise as he caught four of five passes for 32 yards and a touchdown. Senior wide receiver Miles Sikes had a great night as he caught all five of his targets and turned that into 90 yards. Junior safety Shaun Wilks showed up to do business with his five solo tackles, six assisted, and a tackle for loss.

Obyedako High Green Dragons 19-35 Brøgby Preparatory Academy

A victory as expected for the Miners, who enter the season as one of the favorites to make the championship game. Highly rated senior quarterback Michael Monrovia had a mixed showing in the air but he got the game done on the ground with 13 rushes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Indeed, Brøgby got their victory via the run game, with three rushing touchdowns to one thrown (and a punt return for junior Alex Martinez). For the Green Dragons of Obyedako, praise must go to Raymund FItzgerald, the sophomore QB made his first career start and went 23/32 for 232 yards and a touchdown to boot in a very promising debut despite losing a fumble on his sole rushing attempt. Junior tight end Justin Diaz had a simultaneously quiet yet impactful day at the office, only two targets on the night but he got them both at crucial moments of the drive and went for 78 yards. Despite the victory, Brøgby will be hoping for Michael Monrovia’s passing game to bounce back next week, while the Obyedako High Green Dragons will hope their rushing game improves to compliment the potential shown by Raymund Fitzgerald.

“I can do this.”

Breathe in…breathe out.

“I…” Breathe in.

“Can do this.” Breathe out.

It’d been a rough night for him, making your debut as a true freshman was hard enough but doing it against a Utahn team who were by definition a rival of any Cardenaoan school? Who was out for blood? That made it even more difficult. This was the most crucial moment of the game. The Thunderhawks had just scored thanks to quarterback Nick Singer throwing a 22 yard touchdown pass to fellow true freshman Pui Tuigamela, ironically a Utahn citizen. He was in the huddle, it was time. ONe voice rose above the others, he could hear Juresa Faasoo yelling at him.

“Deacon St. John? More like St. LAME I’m owning you tonight freshie!”

“Whatever dude,” St. John muttered, not entirely full of conviction. Faasoo was one of the most impressive athletic specimens Deacon had seen. 6’3, over 300 pounds yet he moved like a ballerina and could close the gap in the blink of an eye. The hits he’d taken tonight were for sure staying on his body for the rest of the week, and it had been one of these hits that denied St. John a touchdown opportunity when he caught a pass on the slant inside the ten, looked to be a certain TD when Deacon suddenly found himself flying through the air and the ball knocked out of his hands before he crashed onto the turf in a heap. All he could hear through ringing ears was Kuresa screaming,

“WOOOooooooYEAH BABY! That’s number ONE ON YOU!” Before he wheeled away in celebration.

Still though, Deacon St. John was slowly impacting the game, catching a couple passes for decent yardage before a smartly run four vertical and a perfectly thrown ball from Ranorian QB Nick Singer led to a 42 yard gain and set up senior running back Javelion Bland for the first NSCF touchdown in Thunderhawk history. Deacon wanted to get on the board though, he needed to. True freshman? Highly rated Cardenaoan recruit? Elevated to a starting position for the first game of the season? He needed to score.

Late in the third quarter, after the Aggies scored their first of the game, he had his chance. A few breaths to settle his heart as he looked over at the sideline ref to confirm his positioning. He looked across the line. Kuresa Faasoo was looking right back at him, licking his lips. Literally.

‘What the fuck what a weirdo,’
Deacon thought to himself but he couldn’t help but smile, this type of psycho was the kind that you loved to have on your team. He looked down the line at Nick Singer, who had already thrown for over 200 yards and was seemingly unflappable in the pocket. Nick called out the cadence, the ball was snapped, and Deacon exploded into action.

He was much quicker off the line then the 300 pound cornerback marking him and had a massive agility advantage, but all it took was one finger from the ‘Beast of Faasoo’ to bring him down. Deacon rocketed downfield, he was quick, quicker than anyone he knew his size and that was no different here as he blew past the big boy. A little hesitation followed by a feint to the right and he was gone, flying on a deep shot and wide, wide open. He counted to three before picking his head up and looking back towards Nick……and the ball was there. Like there, like there there. Nick couldn’t have thrown a more perfect pass, it was spiraling down right to his hands like the most beautiful artillery shell. Deacon watched the ball float down to him, he could envision the headlines, “True Freshman? True Rockstar!” It was right there for him.

But he saw the ball gently drop right between his outstretched hands, thudding into the turf with a boom. He…dropped a wide open touchdown pass. As the sound of the crowd slowly came roaring back into his ears, Deacon St. John found himself staring at his hands. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d dropped something like this…or…shit…he didn’t even drop it. He totally missed the catch. Had he ever done that? “True Freshman? True Loser!”

“Deacon…Hey DEACON,”

‘Huh?’

“Jesus dude look alive. Four verts, run it quick,” Nick Singer paused before looking St. John in the eyes, ‘Hey man, you can do this.”

He could do this.

Deacon lined up, looking at the ground in front of him. Kuresa was talking his shit again.

“I ate you before boy, I’m gonna eat you again and shit your bones out right into the sea!”

‘What……the fuck?’ Who even says that? No time to think about it, Nick was already counting the snap.

This was everything. No time left on the clock, New Cardonia State 13-14 Utah State University. One final two point conversion attempt for New Cardonia.

“Cheeeckkkkk…Omaha four vert set hike!”

A last second audible to the same four vertical play Deacon had blown earlier, only this time he didn’t have the whole field to manipulate, just the distance between the two-point line and the endzone. Once again, Kuresa Faasoo lined up across from him. Once again the moment was shining but this time, he knew it was his time.

“Nick…I got you!” St. John yelled out to his quarterback. The Ranorian flicked his eyes to the Cardenaoan, and it was on.

The ball was snapped. Deacon slowly trotted out, holding his horses as Faasoo charged down at him. At the last second, Deacon turned on the jets and flipped the Utahn’s momentum against him and blew past him into the endzone.

‘One one thousand, half thousa–’

Deacon looked up.

The ball was there, bulleting right towards his hands. He reached out……

If getting back to the top of the Zephyr Conference is the end goal of the Rockets this season, it has been a goal that has had a false start as the big wildcard of the Celestial Division managed to make the former champions look quite pedestrian in the opening tilt in Anthor. It is not the sort of scene that one has become accustomed to from Raynor University, looking very much not ready mentally for the game and the start of the season, which has happened twice before and seen the team bounce back relatively comfortably and even win the NSCF title in one of those seasons. However those two teams had a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball and reason for confidence that they had merely misfired in their opening outings and not that it was a sign of a bigger problem with the team. Against Bowerstone the much heralded offense of the Rockets looked anemic and was unable to get much going until the latter stages of the second half when it was already too late and the side was doomed for an opening loss. The defense to their credit was doing its part, only bending and not breaking, but it was not enough and the team looks in disarray.

The feeling of doom and gloom is amplified when you look around the other three games in the conference and all of the other favorites won their games and did so quite with the game in hand. For a long time the Zephyr was run through Raynor City and they somehow always would end up at the top of the heap at the end of the regular season, they were inevitable like death and taxes, but if this team is to reach that heights there is going to need to be a lot of work done in season. That is major parting of ways for teams that usually represent this university but the pride of the coaching staff and the pride of the players should want them to try and fix what was so clearly broken in week one. It need be fixed before the first Battle for the Royal Saber or else Mar Sara Tech is going to make quick work of them and perhaps even embarrass them in front of a national audience, which would put a further dent into their already depleted recruiting pools. This is a situation that if not given proper triage soon, could cascade out of control until the Rockets become the team that everyone else is looking forward to on their schedule for an apparent easy win.

Mar Sara on the other hand got a veteran display from their senior quarterback at home and were able to pull ahead late from new conference and divisional foes Trismegistus University. The Chromatik quarterback went seventeen from twenty-two with two hundred fifty-eight yards and two touchdowns through the air and another on the ground with a sneak late in the second quarter. The defense added a safety to start the second half after penalties forced their opponent back to their own two yard line and the kicker made the only field goal, a forty-two yard effort to open the scoring in the game midway through the first. It was a solid if not completely impressive start to the season and the sort of good and steady play the Raiders are hoping for to try and take the divisional crown and earn a chance at the conference title, with the Poafmersia schools already still looking the cut above in their division. Those schools don't just have a hex on Raynor, they have them on both Vanorian universities and the Raiders will be looking to try and shake the voodoo not just in the regular season but when the stakes are raised in the conference title game and playoffs if needed.

OOC: Short RP for today, will pick up pace starting MD3!

St. Croix 7 3 3 9 22
Northern Moravica 6 0 8 3 17
Stade St. Croix (cap. 82,000), Saint-Croix, Joongyeong Federal Province

For many, St. Croix versus Northern Moravica match was going to be a battle of attrition, one pitting two well-drilled sides with high-calibre coaches. Both sides have history of prioritising defensive lockdowns, with both Lance Kabuye and new Bleu et Blanc coach Tevita Soakai known for fielding difficult front sevens, but where the two teams stood were relatively different.

Lance Kabuye, for one, was about to start what would be his final season coaching the Cougars, with Montevicio bettors and pundits expecting his successor to be Hannah McKendry. Yes, the previous St. Croix coach whose remarriage to Sebastian, the Cass Technical HS coach in Busukuma and the youngest child of the legend himself, had made her the daughter-in-law to Lance, the same coach who had beaten him here in Joongyeong, 9-6, on what would be the match remembered for the snowstorm due to Stade St. Croix's broken roof that Spring and Summer.

Soakai, on the other hand, was a year one coach who was coming up fairly steadily on the coaching ladder. The native of Toʻa e laʻaa, a small island nation about three hours west of Quebec, the former USM Trojans linebacker's first head coaching job past high school level just happened to be at the arguably the biggest collegiate coaching job in the country. And for all the successes he has had as a defensive coordinator, both in the QFL and the QIS with Saint John Steelers and Queen's Collge, this was still something the 35-year old gaffer had to answer. Soakai has no doubt coached the Bleu et Blanc quite well, especially after leading his new team into a 10-2 season, a RSECQ conference title, and a New Year's 6 Bowl win after coming short with 5th-place rank. Can he translate that internationally?

Fortunately for Soakai, his NSCF debut match as a Bleu et Blanc coach could not have gone any better. Nobody had expected this match to be an easy one, but unlike the last time they had played against the Cougars in Joongyeong, they did not have to worry about playing in middle of freezing weather as the roof was fixed between the NSCF and the QIS seasons the summer after the season was over. And in the domed confines of Stade St. Croix they started out hot, holding Northern Moravica to first of three field goals before a kick return, before answering it strong with a 78-yard kick return by sophomore running back Dara Williams-Simakan, giving the Bleu et Blanc an early 7-6 lead.

This would come to be a handy theme for Soakai's men, as the match itself would come down to special teams. Unlike the first time, when neither side forgot what it felt to get into red zone, the teams had relative ease getting into it. The problem this time, however, was execution - with neither side able to convert more than a single touchdown, both in part questionable playcalling (what the hell are you doing, Tshibangu?) and the strengths of their defences, the battle ended up coming down to who was able to kick better.

Northern Moravica scored three field goals and missed one PAT to the left.

St. Croix scored five field goals and converted their sole PAT, though they conceded a brutal safety where Gignac simply had no time to evade the five-man rush.

And that's how they won this game with five point difference.

Jackson Zuercher Pt 1.

Jackson had been sacked and it fucking hurt as the main man Alabaster Red came in like a truck and got him down, and the first thought was “Damn Blake dealt with this fucker?” but he kept it moving managing to score two TD’s on his opening game but sadly their kicker missed the field goal, for Jackson it was a terrible performance but Christ the TE Johnny Wall was a monster and proved it managing to, make a one handed catch in the endzone and it was astounding. So as they got off the field he gave his praises but the coach took apart the game and said they needed more practice as Freshman but they showed up. Next they had the Thunderhawks which beat BYU’s sister school this week 14-13, seems they had a tough game but hell BYU was going to give them some revenge. So as they got back to BYU, Jackson finished up some homework in his dorm before getting to bed.

As he woke up there were 5 texts from Wall and well fuck, he saw the photos and it was BYU’s B drenched in blue and orange paint, there and then that lit a fire in Jackson knowing he was going to push back on the Thunderhawks. Yeah they didn’t do it but they were going to have to deal with what Jackson knew as a BYU team that was going to push on NCS Thunderhawks, and hopefully get out a win against the squad as they wanted revenge for what BSU did to their B and well sadly the Thunderhawks were a Cardonian school and they had to pay. So later that day when they were at practice, him and Johnny had a talk about what was going to happen with NCS, and how they would handle that BSU wannabe school.

“So, how are we going to do this?” Johnny asked Jackson Z, wondering how they freshman QB came up with a scheme on NCS.

“Its a small idea but I would have to say, since they like to do pass coverage on WR’s, I think you would be an amazing target against them.” Jackson smirked as he looked at the large Freshman Tight-End, and the smile that was on Wall’s face was pretty fucking frightening.

“Well, I would love to help you put down this younger brother school.” With a quick fist bump they headed back to practice.

After the conversation and, now that they were at game day the Freshman QB and TE gave each other a nod as they ran onto the field ready to kick this puck ass players back to Cardenao. So as the coin flipped and they got first dibs they took the ball and after lining up, Jackson took a look at Wall and with a smile he yelled “JOHNNY, STAND UP!” Just like that the 6’6” and 220 pound tight-end stood up with a wicked smile on his face ready to run over anyone to get a touchdown.

*I'm gonna be doing the RFL seasons here since I failed to get them up prior to the NSCF. Probably 5 posts in all. This, 2 regular seasons, two postseasons. Chronologically these would have happened before the NSCF, at least on my tl.

Enjoy!

RFL 2037 Preview:
Could A Second Rookie Win The MVP?

When John Garrett was drafted in 2020, he was immediately the best quarterback in the country, breaking the passing touchdowns in a season record en route to securing the MVP award. His ability to disect defenses so incredibly was largely chalked up to his three seasons of starting experience in the NSCF, exposing him to significantly more complex defensive schemes than he'd have seen in Ranoria and, of course, just the sheer volume of his experience. With Richardson having been participating in both the NSCF and domestic play at the time, Garrett had the equivalent of six seasons of starting experience under his belt coming in.

It was a flash in a pan - the league quickly stepped up its ability to stop the pass, especially after Bo Callahan outdid him the next season by passing for over five thousand yards, but to date it's the first time a rookie has won the league's MVP award. But with one of the more talented draft classes in recent memory, could that change?

Benoit Youngblood is the obvious candidate. The program record holder for passing completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns in a season at Cold Hill University, Beno was last seen at the top of the mountain, leading a climactic comeback against Felswyr State University to lift the Buffalo to a third NSCF crown. The Madison Gladiators also made some big moves in free agency, grabbing free agent wideout Nikolas Isaksen and the best guard in the league in Uzziah Amondi.

But for a team that earned the #1 overall pick - will it be enough? With one elite jump-ball specialist target and one man to anchor an otherwise porous offensive line, Youngblood is going to have his work cut out for him. The biggest thing going for him, realistically, is that he's playing in a barren Ranorian North division. Jay Garrian - who's only broken three thousand passing yards twice in an eight year career - is the only other quarterback of note. So making the postseason should be the goal, with an MVP award as an unlikely but exciting bonus.

And then there's the other guy. Reigning NSCF Offensive Player of the year and a former WBC and NSCF champion in Rylan Rodgers Jr. He's saddling up with the Sierraville Farmers this year, home to none other than Akhello Volson, the guy who (barely) managed to knock a potential game-winning touchdown catch away from Kalu Alazar in the World Bowl 46 championship. He's a third year guy and has already established himself as one of the league's top corners - only Victoria Mio provides an argument.

Sierraville's got a tougher route to the postseason, mind you. The Munich Thrashers are in their division, and while they've perhaps hung on to a strong corps a year too long to make a title run, they're definitely a threat to make the postseason. But the real bulldogs are the Highport Hawks. With veteran Byron Joseph at quarterback and former MVP Herman "Warhawk" Whitworth at running back, they've got one of the strongest, longest lasting core groups in the league. They're rounded out by pass rusher Robert Lawrence, wideouts William Carey and Tanner Aurelio, and tight end Vasily Schmidt. One of the favorites this year to win the whole thing, it's gonna be tough for the Farmers to get past them - but maybe that's just what gives our snow bear-riding phenom a crack at the award.

If Sierraville can take a game - and the division - away from the Hawks, it'll be on the back of Rylan Rodgers Jr. And if that happens, statistics aside, that'll earn him some major MVP consideration.

And there's one more dark horse - Blake Zuercher. Drafted #8 overall by the Edmunton Eagles, they're hoping the BYU dual threat can make them relevant for the first time since Elijah Sampson's fall from grace. Mind you, the Eagles are pretty bad at football. They've got an okay defensive line, but they'll be relying on Zuercher to create some magic on offense with the help of South Newlandian wideout Viktoire Wilinson. He was playing on an outmatched team talent wise for much of his lone NSCF season, and that's part of the allure - if he beat Cold Hill in those conditions, maybe he can provide some other dramatic upsets. With only the Brittany Walruses providing any sort of barrier to the Eagles' taking the division, he'll have a chance to make some fireworks.

But maybe we shouldn't set the expectations so high - realistically, these guys are gonna have trouble taking home Ranoria's most prestigious individual sporting award from one of the established stars. Sarai Gwenderyn is coming off arguably the best season-long passing performance in RFL history. Byron Joseph is still there, and has really come into his own as a passer these last few years while Ballast Queen has put up outrageous numbers since moving to Rouyoutte's Aurora Knights. Throw in guys like Jack Hoy - or even his quarterback Lane Proudfoot. Hell, Pittsburgh's got a former Krauts starter and perennial all star runner in Apollo Esther, and HB Gauge Lawson of the Berlin Snow Bears was once a runner up. There's a lot of players that can take this thing home, and it's tough for a rookie to establish themselves as one of the best so quickly.

For those of you looking for a popular darkhorse candidate - Vanorian third year wideout Max Strömberg is the third most popular bet for the MVP despite the long odds. He's established himself as the league's top wideout with Alessandra Mio losing a step to father time, and despite a wideout never having won the award, the Memphis Steamers offense runs through him - can he become the first player since Derek McNair to win the award for his franchise?

That's cool and all, but you probably want to know who the actual favorites are, right?

Well for the first time since 2032, the Falcons don't come in the top two of RSNN's preseason poll, (also the second time in that span that they don't top the list!) The Apollotown Sabers top the list of preseason favorites after signing big Hector Storolfsonn - a Krauts starter and a top two guard in the league - to a massive free agency deal and snagging University of Berlin stonewall Donovan Johnson, who blocked for four separate thousand yard rushers in three seasons and earned All-Ranorian twice, in the first round. Throw in Brooklyn Ghirlandaio, a change of pace back who was a nice piece for the Falcons before they couldn't pay her, and all of a sudden the all-world runner Zamadi Ayana doesn't have to do all the work on offense.

Behind them come last year's runners-up in the Fiston Redwolves. Their core of Proudfoot, Gideon Kearse, and Jack Hoy will always be in the mix of course. At three, the Berlin Snow Bears top the eye test in the division from hell - Ranoria City's Falcons then round out the top five in that same division, and the Mariana Tigers came in at seven with South Newlandian veteran QB Zachary Stevens finally getting a shot to start.

Defense Rules The Day At The University of Autamina,
Governors Hold Big 8's Newcomers To A Field Goal In Smothering Victory

Image
Scoring is for nerds anyway - The Governors offense didn't find much of a rhythm on Saturday, but fortunately Totte Lindberg's defense ensured their efforts weren't necessary

The Bloodhounds defense showed up to play, holding senior quarterback Isaiah Hunter and company to just a baker's dozen, but their offense looked completely overmatched against a defense that's consistently among the NSCF's best. One of their two captains on that side of the ball, Totte Lindberg brought down the Bloodhounds quarterback on third down, leveling the poor fellow on an untouched blitz, registering one of the team's four sacks on the day early. With Kerron Nicholas feasting on the inside runs, it quickly became apparent that Autumina's offense was never going to be let up to breathe. The Governors three turnovers on the day, cruising to a victory and allowing just 147 yards of total offense.

"This is our standard," said big edge rusher Ojare Kahara after the contest, "We're just cutting our teeth our here against the Bloodhounds, the rest of this conference isn't going to make things so easy."

The second year player earned his first takeaway of the season, ripping the ball straight from the Autumina passer's arms late in the second quarter to set up a Benjamin Merik 13 yard touchdown run - Richardson's only trip to the end zone on the day.

They'll get Tsear University's Thunderbirds next, who just got walloped 22-16 in the Tundra, though perhaps holding a Viktor Rowles led offense to under thirty is an achievement in and of itself. That'll be their second consecutive road game before their first showdown with Cold Hill comes in Richardson's home opener.

"We're thinking about the Thunderbirds this week," said coach Harrowitz when asked about taking on the reigning NSCF champions so early, "One game at a time."

Tying one on—Baker Park continues to eschew overtime

There has been a deeply held belief in the Commonwealth for decades that sporting contests between different teams sometimes don't necessarily need a clear winner and loser on the day; some athletic pursuits don't lend themselves to outright tied contests and do need resolution in way or another—baseball, basketball and volleyball are the ones that spring to mind easily—but across the range of other activities in this sports-crazed nation of 53 million there is a consensus that a stalemate at the end of regulation time is a fair result.

This can be attributed to a number of explanations—Parkers tend to be romantics at heart and will pull together for an underdog against the longest of odds (across the many international tournaments hosted in the Commonwealth throughout history, local fans have turned out for matches not involving the home team and thrown support behind plucky first-timers or nations that on paper should be over-matched but show grit and spirit); sometimes there is no real deserving winner, or conversely neither team deserves to lose which often is dependent on the entertainment factor of the contest itself; and the generalized acceptance that a tie can be rationalized in any way one chooses depending on their viewpoint.

College football over the first 25 years in Baker Park began relatively decisive as no tie games occurred between 1911-15 (Baker Park utilized the pre-1905 rules during these five seasons before adapting the “modern” gridiron code upon the renewal of competition) and only 10 total over the next four seasons when play resumed from 1919-22; 15 schools played schedules of 7 or 8 games per season at this point meaning there were approximately 60 fixtures per year, so less than 5% of all games played ended without a winner.

At the lower level, high schools didn't begin to field teams until the 1920's and there were far more instances of 'honors even' after 45 minutes (scholastic timing rules mandated three eleven minute quarters and one twelve minute period which initially came first but was switched to the fourth in 1932 with 48 minutes becoming the standard beginning in 1947) mainly due to the lack of exposure to the sport for children below age 12.

The Professional Football Division also followed the trend from its beginning in 1949 until the first season that a post-season playoff was used to determine the champion in 1972 when a 15 minute sudden death overtime was introduced; proposals to use the format in regular season games have been rejected numerous times when presented.

The UAC had no specific formula for how a tie game in the Championship Playoff that began in 1929 would be resolved, as it was just taken for granted that the top 2 teams would share the title; in 1953 the playoff was expanded to include the third and fourth ranked schools facing one another with still no provision for breaking a tie until 1963 when the 15 minute sudden death overtime was adapted.
The Endover-Ezra Universities League tested a pilot program for conference games only based on the untimed alternate possession format between 1990-92 but it was not adopted for UAC competition; the Big 8 Conference revived the test program in 2004-05 with a change to the starting point for each team (15 yard line instead of 10 yard line tested previously), which was viewed more favorably but not introduced until 2011 for 3rd/5th/7th place classification games, with the Championship retaining the 15 minute OT (no UAC Championship Game has ever gone to overtime since the rule was introduced).

Baker Park's Junior College Athletic Conference has determined their champion by a true elimination playoff for over 25 years and uses the 20 yard alternate possession format for the three game tournament.

High School games also remain without overtime provisions in regular season games, although each state uses the untimed alternate possession from the 10 yard line in state playoffs.
