TOFINO TIMES' MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE OF 2023

Image
Husani Antar has been named the most influential person in 2023

GLOBAL AFFAIRS CORRESPONDANT: Travis Canterbury (TCanterburyOfficial)
TOFINO - Annually, the Tofino Times releases a list of the most influential people of the year. As 2023 concludes one of the most tumultuous years on record, the list has been determined by the effect these individuals had on both domestic and international narratives, policy, and culture.

20. Ilberto Baurant: President of Ossinia

19. Tullia Grönberg: Prime Minister of Caspiaa

18. Oljon Slach: President of Sateroc

17. Paul Wasserbaur: Prime Minister of New Anea

16. Elisabeth Rademacher: Prime Minister of Besmenia

15. Akram Sulaiman: President of Emmiria

14. Qin Chen: President of Yuan

13. Sayako: Emperor of Tosichi

12. Yannis Kormoulis: President of Syraranto

11. Oriol Miguélez: President of Paraboca

10. Cekov Marino: President of the World Cup Organization

9. Arthur Davidson: Senator and 2024 candidate for President of Zamastan

8. Kaenan Bullock: Prime Minister of Unified Sera

7. Sylvain Buzitu: 13th General-Secretary of the CCA

6. Amir al Abadi: First democratically elected President of Terehan

5. Sabine Armitage: The President of Zamastan began the year with a troubled start. As the increasingly unpopular military campaign in Terehan was confronted with a growing insurgent group, and as she signed controversial legislation lowering the national minimum wage, Congressional Hall began impeachment inquires and an eventual trial over the President's financial dealings and backroom negotiations with the embattled oil and gas company SanCorp. Armitage narrowly survived a vote-of-no-confidence, and used her near-political-death experience pace her policies. She reshuffled her cabinet, forcing out several department heads, and appointing congressionally-suggested nominees in what many viewed as a gesture of mediation. She heralded a sweeping tax cut in the summer, followed by an education reform bill, both of which were received with positivity. Riding this boost in ratings, Armitage announced that she would seek a second term in July. Armitage's international standing saw an immense shift as Terehan concluded its first democratic elections, and shortly thereafter Armitage led WEDA in a daring and risky naval intervention as Yuan blockaded Haduastan. Her staunch world positioning only furthered as Haduastan was invaded by Elastan, and her trumpeting to supply Haduastan with WEDA-made weapons was credited with their successful counter campaign.

4. Pope Clement III: The archbishop of North Kai, Clement III ascended to the papacy upon the passing of Pope Marcellinus II. As the head of the catholic church, Clement III broke historic barriers as the first pope from western Adula, and the first person of color to be elected pope. In his short time as leader of the catholic church, he has adopted a more conservative stance than his successor, reverting more progressive stances that Marcellinus had put in place to the admiration of liberal Catholics, but to the criticism of more traditional worshipers. In his role, Clement III has found himself in an adverse role of acceptance, with praise from traditionists and criticism from progressives. However, he has likely become the most outspoken and widely publicized pope, already having made dozens of international trips including many to impoverished and war-torn regions, and he is frequent in his appearances to the public and in acts of service.

3. Sartaj Bali: The embattled Prime Minister of Haduastan found himself in the crosshairs of political disaster as the year began. Rampant economic turmoil as a result of mismanaged international agreements, followed by a naval standoff with Yuan was forcing his hand into concession after concession. Bali made a gamble in his tossing of membership with the TTPA, but his abandonment eventually paid off when the forces of Elastan and its allies invaded the disputed Nidayar province. WEDA and several other nations in the international community began flooding Haduastan with money and weapons, not only keeping their economy alive, but their chances of survival lively as well. Bali stood firm in his position, cementing himself as a wartime leader as the war expanded, and seeking support from the CCA. As the war concluded and an armistice agreement was reached, Bali has found himself in prime political positioning to stay in office, should Haduastanis continue to see him as a positive figure. Internationally, his image is one of dispute and controversy even in nations friendly to him, but his influence is undeniable.

2. Hossein Usavi: The longtime democratic opposition leader to the nearly 23 years of Bahadar Panwar's regime, Usavi's imprisonment by the government of Elastan led to a surge in demonstrations against the regime unlike any which had been seen in the decades prior. Usavi, being the most prominent opponent to Panwar's control, was seen as a threat for his outspoken views against the war in Haduastan. From his cell, Usavi called for a revolution by peaceful means, rallying hundreds of thousands of people, mostly students, to take to the streets and occupy city squares. As Panwar ordered his regime to clamp down, Usavi endured torture at the hands of his captors. Eventually, the rallying cries of the demonstrations and Usavi's letters from prison inspired dissatisfied army generals to join the movement, ousting Panwar in a coup as he fled to Yuan, and releasing Usavi from prison, and appointing him to the head of a transitional government whose first act was to mediate a ceasefire and an end to the conflict in Haduastan.

1. Husani Antar: The first opposition party leader to be elected in Zalluabed since the rise of the dominant Conservative Islamic Party party, narrowly defeating incumbent Zayyaan al-Akhtar. Antar's election was widely celebrated internationally as his promises of a shift in the largely antagonistic policies of the previous government began to be implemented. He was the first Zalluabedi head of state to visit Albarine since the World War, and reentered into normalization talks with Zamastan and other WEDA nations. Ultimately, his progressive policies made him an enemy of al-Akhtar's supporters, and following Antar's public declaration to seek an end to Zalluabed's membership in the TTPA, the military began a coup which overthrew his government and forced him to flee to Albarine. Antar established a government in exile, supporting a rebel movement which struck up against the military. And while Zalluabed plunged into a civil war, Antar's continuous international effort to bring attention to the plight of his people garnered him the backing of the highest caliber of democratic world leaders, and to this date, an aerial intervention over the Qahazar peninsula by the forces of WEDA and ANS to support the pro-democracy rebels.

Senator Davidson hospitalized after saving neighbor from burning home

The GLP presidential contender's quick action likely saved lives, says fire department

SOCIAL AFFAIRS CORRESPONDANT: Edward Renene (EddyReneneOfficial)
TOFINO - Senator Arthur Davidson was taken to a hospital Sunday night for treatment of smoke inhalation he suffered trying to rescue his next-door neighbors from their burning house in the Kingston neighborhood of Tofino. Davidson, the senator for Holish Islands' second district and currently the frontrunner for the GLP nomination for president in 2024, had spent the day at Congressional Hall where funding negotiations are underway between the liberal-led congress and conservative-led senate. He was later at ZNN's downtown studios for an interview before returning home, at which point he discovered his neighbor's house was burning. Entering his neighbor's home, he assisted a woman escape the structure.

"I just grabbed her and whipped her out of the bed," Davidson said in recounting the fire. Davidson told The Tofino Ledger he also suffered second-degree burns on his hand.

The fire started in a two-story building on Telthorne Avenue in the Upper Kingston neighborhood, shortly before the senator arrived home after a television interview with ZNN. Five people were taken to the hospital for treatment: the senator, a woman from the house, and three members of his security detail. The woman was listed in stable condition at Saint Thomas Medical Center in Kingston with burns to her back and neck.

Senator Davidson is expected to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. at his home to discuss the incident.

Kingston District Fire Director Fateen Mahmood said after the senator arrived home he saw flames and smoke from the second floor of the building next to his home, and no residents outside. Davidson rushed in and his security detail followed him, Mahmood said. As fire and EMS arrived, they administered oxygen to Davidson and his security detail and took the senator to the hospital. Kingston Fire Chief Adam Centanni was at the hospital with Davidson and said the senator and his detail were "banged up" but would be fine. The residents of the building also appeared to be okay.

Centanni said the senator executed a professional rescue and possibly saved the life of one resident. After being released from the hospital, Davidson recounted his experience at the fire and said he thought he might have to jump out of a window because of the heavy flames.

"We got everybody out of the house, but their daughter's screaming, 'I'm upstairs!' " he told The Tofino Ledger.

One of his security officers tried to stop him from going back in. The officer had been posted at Davidson's house in the mayor’s absence. The other two detectives were accompanying Davidson from the television interview.

"Now we actually get into a fight because his job is to protect me," Davidson said of his security detail. Davidson said when he reached the second floor, he was engulfed in flames and smoke. "I suddenly had the realization that I can’t find this woman." Davidson said. "I look behind me and see the flames and I think "I’m not going to get out of here. Suddenly I was at peace with the fact that I was going to jump out the window." Then he heard her cries in a back bedroom. "I just grabbed her and whipped her out of the bed," Davidson said. The two made their way downstairs, where they both collapsed, Davidson said.

Davidson's actions were praised by his colleagues on both side of the political aisle, and it appears his popularity in polling has received a vital boost which, in the latest Tofino Times showings, place him in a double digit lead to his GLP opponent Euan Gunn.

CCA peacekeepers prepare to deploy to Qahazar

STAVENTER- The CCA Security Council passed a resolution to establish a peacekeeping force in Qahazar, effective as soon as the General Assembly votes to adopt it. Coalition Security Council Resolution 243, formally known as the Resolution to establish a peacekeeping force in the Qahazar Peninsula and institute a ceasefire in Zalluabed, consists of a six step plan to bring about a peace process in the peninsula and prevent further humanitarian suffering. Countries will be asked by the general assembly to contribute forces to the peacekeeping mission, but nations will be able to opt out under certain guidelines. WEDA and the ANS, who are already conducting aerial bombardments of PRQ positions across the peninsula, will provide the peacekeeping forces air cover during the initial stage which is likely to see substantial resistance from el-Dar Moussa's forces.

The resolution's steps are as follows;

1. Considering that the situation in the People's Republic of Qahaza constitutes a threat to international peace and stability, a peacekeeping force under the rules and regulations of the 1972 Coalition Charter will be established in the Qahazar peninsula, with the aim of reaching a peaceful political settlement in the region.

2. Establish a buffer zone between Zalluabedi government-held territory, Feyt Ayat-held territory, and the Qahazar peninsula.

3. Considering that the situation in the Qahazar peninsula constitutes a threat to international peace and stability, the force will be deployed for an initial period of twelve months.

4. Throughout the rest of Zalluabed, a ceasefire must be instituted by all sides of the conflict: the Royal Zalluabedi Defence Forces, Feyt Ayat, Souyt Harka, and the People's Republic of Qahaza must cease hostilities. The peacekeeping force will enforce the ceasefire under appropriate measures.

5. At such time as peace has been restored, an internationally monitored referendum will be held to install an interim government in Qahazar.

6. An arms embargo on Qahazar should not apply to weapons and military equipment intended for the peacekeeping mission.

The resolution is likely to be the last for the current class of the Security Council, as the terms of Shoassau, Zoygaria, Besmenia, Normark, and Sontre conclude in a week.

Parliament clears final hurdle for ending mobile roaming charges
A deal was reached to cap wholesale charges that mobile service operators pay each other

Shoassauan lawmakers clinched a deal early on Monday to cap the wholesale charges mobile service operators pay each other to enable their customers to use their mobile phones in other Euronian countries, paving the way for the abolition of roaming fees in June. The caps on wholesale roaming charges were the last piece of the puzzle needed for the abolition of retail roaming charges on June 15, 2024, to ensure companies can afford to continue offering roaming within certain Euronian countries once they can no longer charge retail customers for the service.

Under Monday's agreement between lawmakers and other states, wholesale charges for data - which were the most controversial given the exponential use of mobile Internet - will be capped at 7.7 sets per gigabyte from June 2024, going down to 2.5 sets per gigabyte in 2027. Caps for making calls will decrease from 5 sets cents per minute to 3.2 sets cents per minute, while those for sending text messages will halve to 1 sets cent from 2 sets cents as of June, said the parliament.

"Goodbye roaming," tweeted one lawmaker who negotiated for the setting of wholesale rates on behalf of the parliament. Parliament will review the wholesale caps every two years and propose new ones if necessary. The decade-long battle against roaming charges took on an added significance after the Blaorian crisis in 2022.

SDP-led government survives no-confidence vote

President Teklile arrives at the Presidential Palace in Ntunbe following a parliamentary vote of no confidence failed to pass

NTUNBE - Aybrea's Social Democrat-led government has survived a parliamentary vote of no confidence after the country witnessed its largest protests in decades over a corruption decree. Ytube Baune, the parliamentary secretary, said on Tuesday that 161 MPs voted in support of the motion, short of the 232 votes needed for it to pass. The Social Democrats and their allies control nearly two thirds of the seats in parliament after winning a September election. They abstained from Tuesday's vote. President Aklilu Kaleyesus Teklile, nearing the end of his second term, claimed the attempt to oust his government was a "coup" by opposition leaders, though it was carried out constitutionally according to the country's Supreme Court.

“The necessary majority has not been met, according to the constitution, for the vote to pass,” Baune said. At least 5,000 protesters gathered outside government headquarters in the capital late on Tuesday to demand the cabinet’s resignation, despite record high temperatures and power blackouts. “We exist, we resist,” they chanted.

Cattan Predoiu, an opposition deputy, said of the motion: “This is a warning signal that we managed to gather the votes of the whole opposition and it also shows that whenever the new government derails we will gather and sanction it.”

For over a week, hundreds of thousands of people have protested against the government after it passed a decree to decriminalise some official corruption. Critics decried the move as a major setback to the country’s anti-corruption drive. Bowing to pressure, the government scrapped the ordinance on Sunday as some 500,000 people protested across the country. The rallies were the largest protests in Aybrea since independence in 1960.

The motion will now be debated by the parliament. Aklilu Kaleyesus Teklile, Aybrea’s president, said the fight to contain corruption shows the “ugly face of politics”. He told the Burar Times news agency that the massive street protests were successful in stopping the decree that would have eased up on public officials who abuse their power while in office. He said he was pleased that protesters cared about the future of Aybrea and made their feelings known. “I was surprised by the size of the crowd,” he said. “Having over 200,000 people in Piata Victoriei [Victory Square] is something extraordinary.”

Artegana launches 34 satellites in show of space market gains

Artegana has created history by successfully launching 34 satellites on a single mission, overtaking its previous record of 17 satellites launched in 2014. All but three of the satellites are from foreign countries, most of them from Zamastan. The launch took place from Las Talito space centre in north Artegana. Observers say it is a sign that Artegana is emerging as a major player in the multi-billion dollar space market.

"This is a great moment for each and every one of us. Today we have created history," project director Aron Ham was quoted as saying by the Buena Vera Times.

President Refugio Malama was among the first to congratulate the scientists, saying on Owler "This remarkable feat by @ArteganaSpaceAdministration is yet another proud moment for our space scientific community and the nation. Artegana salutes our scientists."

Of the 34 small satellites, 26 belong to Zamastan while Austrolis, Albarine, New Elkland, Serra Leon, Quetana, and Emmiria are the other foreign clients. A majority of the satellites have earth-imaging capability and belong to a Zamastanian company named GlobeO. An Arteganan cartographic satellite, believed to be capable of taking high resolution images is also on board. It is expected to be used to monitor regional rivals Buckingla and Peoratia.

The successful launch is yet another feather in the cap of Artegana's ambitious space programme that has earned a reputation of offering a reliable low cost alternative to existing international players. The Arteganan government has increased the budget for its space programme this year and also announced plans to send a mission to Ilmara, as well as sending an astronaut to join the crew of Courage V, the fifth manned mission in the international effort to colonize Eirus.

Over the past two decades, Artegana has become a key player in the lucrative commercial space market offering a low-cost alternative.

The launch, however, comes as Artegana's government is planning to cut spending to pay off its bailout funds, which has prompted nationwide demonstrations for weeks.

Storm Lauren brings heavy gales and intense snowfall to Elbresia
At least one person has died as a result of the winter storm
Image
Elbresia is widely under severe weather warnings as a winter storm from the Olympic Ocean brewed.

Allegnin- The National Weather Office has declared Storm Lauren a “weather bomb” as gales and snow hit parts of Elbresia and northeastern Nortua. High winds brought widespread travel disruption on roads, rail, in the air and on the water. A woman died in Turnleer's city centre after suffering serious head injuries after being hit by falling debris. In Alzand, a man was taken to hospital after being rescued by firefighters when a tree hit his van on the highway near Torpoint. The extent of his injuries was not known.

Several bridges connecting the mainland and Oerter Island, including Mont-Cliffes Bridge, were closed because of the high winds. The port of Allengin was closed due to gusts of 100mph. A 94mph gust hit the capital, although later wind speeds of 80mph were recorded, suggesting the storm had passed its peak. Winds of 60mph-plus were reported elsewhere.

A weather bomb is an intense low-pressure system with a central pressure that falls by 24 millibars in a 24-hour period. The NWO extended its amber – be prepared – warning covering Oerter, where winds were expected to reach 60-70mph. It said damage to structures, interruptions to power supplies and widespread disruption to travel networks were likely, and there was a danger of injury from flying debris. Trees were likely to be damaged or blown over, it said.

Oerter Air cancelled dozens of flights out of the Oerter Island, while Allengin and Oftbon airports advised passengers to check for delays and cancellations before travelling. Network Rail imposed speed restrictions on some lines, and services were disrupted by debris and fallen trees. Damage to overhead power lines in St Albans caused trains to be cancelled. Network Rail warned of disruption till midday.

More than 200 homes in Watergrass lost electricity because of a fallen tree and there were also reports of power outages on the island of Buffel. An amber warning of snow remains in place for north-east Elbresia and southern and central Spycullen Island. The NWO said up to 30cm was possible on higher ground.

Yellow – be aware – warnings were in place for the rest of the country for wind and snow.

Elkland to give visas to thousands of crisis-weary Zalluabedis

Image

Above: President Lionel Pieters speaks his government's new visa program.

COURBAGNE - New Elkland has created a temporary visa that will allow thousands of Zalluabedis to work and study in the country, part of a migratory policy that aims to "build bridges" and "not walls," the central Adulan nation's interior ministry said. President Lionel Pieters's government issued 20 temporary visas to Zalluabedi migrants in Elkland this week. Pieters, a progressive, has expressed concern about shortages of food and medicine in Zalluabed, mired in a deep crisis amid the raging civil war and impending CCA peacekeeping mission. Some 6,000 Zalluabedis in total are expected to receive the permit, which will allow them to study, work and receive health services in New Elkland for a year, the interior ministry said early on Thursday.

New Elkland has enjoyed nearly two decades of uninterrupted economic growth and single-digit inflation, a sharp contrast to Zalluabed, where the ranks of the poor have swollen in recent years even prior to the civil war.

"We want to offer a different message on migration than what's offered in other places. We want to build bridges that unite us and not walls to separate us," Interior Minister Jochum Hekman said in a statement, which appeared to be a thinly veiled shot at the Zamastanian and Emmirian governments, which are traditionally allies of New Elkland.

Zamastanian President Sabine Armitage has imposed a temporary entry ban on refugees and citizens from Zalluabed, while Emmirian President Akram Sulaiman suspended no-visa residencies for Zalluabedis this last week.

Federal President von Schilling resigns after allegations of plagiarism

Image

Vincent von Schilling resigned as Besmenian president as a consequence of the accusations of plagiarism in his doctoral thesis.

Author: Florian Schmidt

Federal President Vincent von Schilling resigned from his office. Von Schilling was stripped of his doctorate last week following allegations of plagiarism. Now the conservative politician felt “obliged to give back the office of president.”

After allegations of plagiarism in von Schilling's dissertation first emerged in December 2023, the University of Könlenz revoked von Schilling's doctorate. A commission of experts had previously found that von Schilling had copied almost his entire 1997 dissertation from other authors. About 198 of the 234 pages of von Schilling's dissertation were largely copied. After the plagiarism allegations became known, politicians in Besmenia called for his resignation. Von Schilling had previously stated in an interview on January 7, that there was “no connection” between his doctoral thesis, which he had prepared “to the best of his knowledge and belief,” and his election as Federal President 24 years later. However, within the political landscape in Besmenia the pressure has increased in the last days and people have lost trust in von Schilling.

Von Schilling's resignation marks the second time that a Besmenian Federal President has resigned prematurely; in 1951, Hugo Dautzenberg resigned due to health problems. According to the Besmenian Federal Law, the President of the Federal Chamber Barbara Schröder will take over the office on a provisional basis before a new Federal President is elected by the people in the coming weeks.

Minority government introduces bill to restore 11-month conscription this summer for all Caspiaans born after 2002.
Caspiaa military service reintroduced ‘to face threats’

Viitaniemi - Caspiaa has announced that it will reintroduce compulsory military service starting this summer to respond to global security challenges including from ACWAC and the TTPA. “The government wants a more stable staff supply system and to boost its military capability because the security situation has changed,” Defence Minister Nikolai Bjornson said on Friday. The country, which has not seen armed conflict on its territory in two centuries, ended conscription in 2013 after it was deemed an unsatisfactory way of meeting the needs of a modern army. Caspiaa’s minority government on Friday is set to introduce to the parliament a bill to restore conscription this summer for all Caspiaans born after 2002. It will last for 11 months.

The measure is expected to be adopted by parliament, subject to agreement between the leftist government and the centre right opposition. Some 33,000 young Caspiaans are expected to be mobilised from July 1, but only 7,000 of them, 18-year-olds of both sexes, will be selected for military service based on motivation and skills. They will be called up each year after January 1, 2025.

“The new security situation is also a reality, partly in the form of aggressive power politics which has long been underestimated and downplayed,” Prime Minister Tullia Grönberg said. Caspiaa is a leading WEDA member state and has been highly involved in military operations with the organization in the past decade, namely in the last five years in Ossinia, Terehan, and now Zalluabed.

FBBP nominates Erika Badt-Springer as their candidate for the upcoming presidential election

Image

Erika Badt-Springer

Author: Vanessa Blumthal

With the resignation of Vincent von Schilling from the office of Besmenian Federal President, the search for a candidate as a successor begins for the parties. The federal executive board of the liberal Free Besmenian Citizen's Party (FBBP) had now announced that it would send the former FBBP federal chairwoman Erika Badt-Springer into the race as the FBBP candidate for the presidential election taking place on March 10th.

“It is a great honor for me to be nominated for the highest state office in these stormy times,” said Badt-Springer. “The conflict in Zalluabed and the threat of a second world war are "political earthquakes that can also shake us up." The current FBBP federal chairman Moritz Bandenburg explained about Badt-Springer's nomination: "What is needed is an applicant who can represent our country, but also knows the challenges of our time and has answers to them. Badt-Springer has had won a lot of trust within the FBBP over the years , so she is the suitable candidate."

Erika Badt-Springer has been a member of the Federal Chamber since 1997. Between 2005 and 2011 she served as Minister of Health and from 2011 to 2012 as Minister of Finance. From 2013 to 2016 she served as federal chairwoman of the FBBP. Badt-Springer has served as First Vice President of the Federal Chamber since 2016.

Even if the Besmenian president is not part of the federal government and is almost only of ceremonial importance, the FBBP, which has been in the opposition for almost 3 years, still hopes to return as a "ruling party" to the federal level with the upcoming presidential election.

Belskorski announces military aid package for Wallenland amid insurgency

Image
President Belskorski visits Wallenland

Following a tumultuous series of meetings at the 2024 Leaders Summit in Kalea, President Vladimir Belskorski visited the Adulan island nation of Wallenland for trade and security talks with King Lo'ánma and Prime Minister Alo'abàkradíno, capping a vital connection for the Beleroskovian federation as it aims to reextend its sphere of influence internationally. Belskorski landed in the capital city of Vao'okoà, which has seen months of unrest from an insurgent group known as the ELN, and pledged to send a military package to the Wallenland Defense Forces, including 12 Khromov UL-17s and 2 Khromov UL-19 fighter jets. The conflict with the ELN has left hundreds dead, unrest in a nation long unfocused by the international community. Beleroskov is also preparing to extend recovery aid following last month's deadly volcanic eruption of Mount Bapò'iliop, in an effort to not only restore damaged communities but provide a much needed boost to the country's fledgling economy.

"We are hopeful to bridge gaps and increase ties between our two great nations," Belskorski said in statements alongside the island's Prime Minister and top military commander, General José Ālpamínahné. "This starts with reassurance and trust, and in doing this step we are providing a substantial source of aid to the United Kingdom of Wallenland in this turbulent time."

The guided-missile cruiser VY Rusanov Lodovich will accompany 800 Beleroskovian soldiers who will deploy to Wallenland to assist in ongoing security protections. Most of the conflict between government forces and ELN insurgents has taken place in the Northern Hoħoàbà’iliop region.

While Wallenland's isolation from continental mainland and major shipping routes has led to much of the international community turning a blind eye to the plight of Wallenland's nearly 11.5 million inhabitants, Beleroskovian economists say that Wallenland's potential to foreign investors found in offshore mineral and oil deposits, extensive resources, and agriculture makes it a contender for an emerging market. Additionally, as the largest of the southwestern Cantalle island states, the necessity of a peaceful Wallenland "is essential to the region's stability and future", said Foreign Minister Aleksei Borisovich.

Belskorski had intended to visit Wallenland next week, but pushed up the timetable for his state visit after a contentious series of meetings at the 2024 Leaders Summit in Kalea, where according to a representative he engaged in "fiery arguments" with delegates from WEDA and the ANS, including Quetanan President Emília Medeiros and New Anea Prime Minister Paul Wasserbaur over his government's continued support and financial protection of ousted Elastani leader Bahadar Panwar.

THE NATIONAL WALLENE NEWS

Beleroskov Sends Aid
The president of Beleroskov, Vladimir Belskorski, has visited Wallenland to discuss trade and security talks. The prime minister and King Lo'ánma greeted Belskorski this morning at the Palace of Pearls with the king and his wife offering the Beleroskovian president a tour of the royal estate.
Discussions commenced behind closed doors and have resulted in positive yields for Wallenland with a delivery of twelve Khromov UL-17s and two Khromov UL-19 fighter jets and humanitarian aid, greatly improving diplomatic relations.
"Wallenland's cries have fallen on deaf ears," Alo'abàkradíno stated in an interview following discussions, "the international community has undoubtedly failed us so, [...] we are thankful for Beleroskov's aid and reassurances in our hour of need."

General José Ālpamínahné has also talked about the meeting, saying that "we send our utmost thanks to Beleroskov in joining this war against these insurgents". In a few days, the WDF will welcome the brave 800-strong men on Wallenland's shores.

Beat Hochmuth announces his move to FC Saint Marina

STAVENTER- Beat Hochmuth, widely regarded as one of the best footballers of all time, announced he would be leaving Pedeit FC and is taking his talents to FC Saint Marina, the top Albarinean club. He signed a four-year deal which will see him earning 61.3 million over the course of play. The move caps his five-year run at Pedeit, which saw him lead the team to two Premier 1 titles, a runner-up in the final, and the other two seasons in the playoff tournaments. He scored a total of 81 goals at Pedeit.

"There were several offers on the table, and at the end of the day I knew I wanted to play in a foreign club," Hochmuth said ahead of announcing his move. "My time in my home country has been the greatest period of my life, and I am so proud of what my teams and I have accomplished. I will continue my career on the international stage, both in Champion and National Cups, and look forward to representing Shoassau in the 2024 World Cup."

"I am headed to Saint Marina," Hochmuth said, as cameras flashed and applause filled the announcement hall. Hochmuth proceeded to put on the famous white and gold logo hat, representing Saint Marina's nickname "Shine City".

Hochmuth had received multiple offers to play for clubs abroad, including Normark's top club Rød Sol, the North Kandsonian club Lamstin Hawks, Wallenland's Vao'okoà West FC, and Besmenia's elite FC Schwarz-Weiß Melmingen. Ultimately, according to Hochmuth, he wanted to play with friends and a coaching staff he has long admired.

"Coach Thiago Fontes is a superb and admirable coach, and his personal reaching out was both a shock and a welcome surprise," Hochmuth said. "I've long respected him and what he's done for Shine City, and I can't wait to play."

Hochmuth's first game with FC Saint Marina is scheduled for January 28th, in a match against Geeleston City Club.

Hochmuth played as a forward for Pedeit FC since 2018 and for the Shoassau national football team since 2006. He began his professional career with Staventer Union from 2003-09, and at Haute City FC from 2009-18. He is widely regarded as the best Shoassauan footballer in history, one of the few players to have made over 1,200 professional career appearances, and has scored over 700 official senior career goals for club and country, making him one of the top goalscorers of all time. He has been on the winning teams of several EFC Nations Leagues, some EFC Champions Leagues, and one World Cup (in 2022, where he was also named MVP). He is one of the world's most marketable and famous athletes.

Qolaysia removes 'Bowet Hand' from flag
Image
The new flag without the 'Bowet Hand'. The symbol had long been a source of controversy for its historical context.

LEONRAU - A referendum passed by 62% of popular votes throughout Qolaysia today to remove the so-called 'Bowet Hand' from the national flag, following decades of controversy over its historical connections to a paramilitary movement which was outlawed more than 20 years ago. President Elihu Saing, who had been hesitant to voice support for the removal of the symbol from the flag in previous years, today said that the public motion was "a sign of moving forward, not abandoning our past nor erasing it, but reflecting and growing from it."

The 'Bowet Hand', which was represented by an open right hand, was the symbol for the Togana Army of God, also known as TAG, a paramilitary movement which fought against Togarian Occupation from the 1700s until independence in 1949. The group, though credited with being an essential force in the motion for independence, has fallen under intense scrutiny in the past few decades for investigations which uncovered extensive acts of crimes against humanity, including religious persecution of local populations, torture of prisoners, and the use of child soldiers in battle. Several provincial and state governments had already removed the hand from their flags and seals, but its use on the national flag had drawn the most scrutiny.

"It's a symbol of our worst attributes," said one MP motioning to remove the hand from the flag. "People will say it's just a hand, what is wrong with that. Well, here's more than 8 decades worth of context as to why it's wrong."

TAG evolved from a paramilitary into a political party in Togana in the 1960s and 70s, during which time it intermediately controlled local offices and from 1970-73 controlled the state parliament. However, its leadership frequently endorsed a one-religion state and a one-party system, with party founder Uben bin Gunny advocating for the "removal of Christians from Togana, and soon from Qolaysia." Even as the group attempted to enter national politics, hardliners in this already hardline group carried out political violence against opponents, including assassination attempts and muggings at rallies. The party was outlawed by national parliament in 2001, and bin Gunny was arrested in 2003.

ITAS claims responsibility for deadly blast in Casaat
JATARAN WATCH is an INDEPENDENT NEWS ORGANIZATION and is UNAFFILIATED with the Terehanian Government

CASAAT - A suicide bombing near parliament in the capital of Casaat has left at least 90 people dead and 400 wounded, the worst act of violence since the majority of WEDA forces withdrew in the summer of 2023. The insurgent group ITAS claimed responsibility for the blast, as authorities declared a state of emergency in the capital and increased security at government sites and international consulates. President Amir al Abadi called the attack "barbaric terrorism," and said that the Terehanian security forces would work to punish those responsible.

"This is a saddening day and reflects the work we have yet to do," al Abadi said, "and the fact that the remnants of ITAS still try to wage terror on us reflects their cowardice."

“Our prayers are with the victims and their families of this inhuman and cowardly attack,” President al-Abadi continued. “May Allah strengthen all those working for peace. Our thoughts are with the families of deceased & prayers with the injured.”

Officials say that a car filled with explosives crashed through a security barrier near the parliament in central Casaat, driving into a crowded political rally when it detonated. The bomb exploded in the diplomatic quarter near the Caspiaan Embassy and the presidential palace. The streets were packed with commuters, women shopping and children going to school, and resulted in a high civilian death toll. It was the deadliest attack since June 2023.

The Terehanian Security Force says checkpoints prevented truck getting closer to embassies, which could have been the terrorist's intended target according to surveillance cameras.

The Islamic Terehanian Alliance State, also known by its abbreviation ITAS, is a paramilitary Fedayeen organization loyal to the ousted government of Asaad al-Shaad. The group shifted to an insurgency following the 2022 invasion of Terehan by WEDA, and ITAS was labeled a terrorist organization by the administration of President Sabine Armitage in late December 2022. The group is primarily based in northern and central Terehan, and includes mostly Terehanian (including Mehedis and Ardish) fighters. At its height, the group had 30,000–40,000 members, but Terehan's government and the ZIS believes the current number is less than 1,000. ITAS' insurgency was responsible for the bulk of WEDA casualties during the war.

Emperor Sayako marks Tosichi New Year with coronation

TAGAYAN - Emperor Sayako has been formally coronated in a ceremony coinciding with the Tosichi New Year. Sayako became emperor on October 15, 2023 following the passing of his father, long-reigning monarch Irohi II. In his coronation address, Sayako pledged to "reign with dignity and responsibility for the people of Tosichi," and promised to restore frayed diplomatic relations through a "peaceful path forward." Prime Minister Ari Shihida and his government were then swore loyalty to the crown, and Sayako's procession made its way from the Hall of Kings to the Royal Palace. His beloved wife, Amakusa, princess and heir apparent Saionji, and Princes Kiso and Adachi joined the ceremonies every step of the way.

Sayako was born in the Imperial Palace in Tagayan, the first child of Emperor Irohi II and Princess Tirita during the reign of his grandfather Ichijou, and became heir apparent when Ichijou died in 1966. He was educated at Yoshii Katahiko University in Kyose before pursuing further education at both the University of Shanghan and University of Tofino. Sayako married Princess Amakusa in 1981, and the couple had three children; Princess Saionji (1984, heir apparent), Prince Kiso (1986), and Prince Adachi (1989). In 1997, a Zhenquan Sun article revealed that Sayako and Amakusa had each engaged in extramarital affairs, but the two remained married despite public criticism.

As heir apparent, Sayako undertook official duties and engagements on behalf of his aging father. He advocated for the conservation of historic buildings and the importance of architecture in society, and as an environmentalist supported organic farming and action to prevent climate change. He has authored 9 books.

At least 94 people were killed in a ITAS-claimed bombing near the Terehanian parliament.
6 Caspiaan citizens among those killed in Casaat blast

Viitaniemi - Defence Minister Nikolai Bjornson confirmed that 6 Caspiaan citizens working at the consulate and as security contractors in Casaat were among the 94 killed yesterday in an ITAS suicide bombing. Prime Minister Tullia Grönberg called the blast, which occurred near international embassies and the Terehanian parliament, an "egregious act" and extended her condolences to the families of those affected by the terrorist attack, and said that security would be increased at diplomatic offices not only in Terehan but throughout multiple countries in South Adula. The names of the Caspiaan nationals killed in the attack have not been publicly named, as several of them were working in sensitive security connections with the Terehan military.

"Caspiaan nationals working in Terehan risk this sort of danger every day, but their mission in working to make the country a better place than it was two years ago is an endeavor which we can all rest comfortably in knowing it was worth it," said the Prime Minister in a statement. "I have reached out and spoken with Terehanian President al-Abadi and pledged continuing Caspiaan support, and our allies in WEDA have done the same. The Terehan of today has become much safer and free than the Terehan under Asaad al-Shaad, and though these ITAS extremists continue to hold on to their dreams of a return to tyranny, the brave people of Terehan will always prove them to be a far-fetched cowardice group through their devotion to freedom."

PRESIDENT AVLIN REELECTED IN SWEEPING VICTORY
Image

ASRETT - President Gillian Avlin has been elected to a second term following a tense season of political rhetoric and back and forths, but with the result being a clear and sweeping pull of the popular vote. CERO candidate Mogens Toft conceded to Avlin as poll results show more than 68% voting for Avlin. Additionally, the parliamentary seats by Avlin's allied party, the SIP, have seen gains while CERO and its minority coalition dropped. Avlin appeared to a crowd of supporters shortly after results were announced, thanking them for their support and pledging to continue his administration's policies.

"We have made it known that Odoni's future is secure and the future is here," Avlin said to a roar of applause. "Our opponents fought a well run and well mannered campaign, despite our disagreements, we believe we can continue to work together to accomplish things to the benefit of everyone."

Avlin, now 46, is still the youngest president in Odoni's history. Since the beginning of his political career, he carried out one of the most successful reforms in Odoni — the decentralization reform, as well as the reform of state regulation in construction. He has more than 20 years of business experience in the private sector of the economy in Odoni and abroad. Prior to his presidency, he was engaged in finance, investment management, investment banking, and worked in real estate and IT.

Avlin was expected to win reelection, though most polling projected to be much closer. While Avlin's policies in his first term were widely popular among his base, some economic policies were believed to be mismanaged by the opposition. Toft's campaign ran largely to reverse these policies.

Avlin carried the majority of urban areas and coastal regions, while Toft and other candidates carried rural regions and agricultural-focused communities.

Odoni and Sateroc normalize relations during Slach's state visit

ASRETT - Last week's state visit by Saterocian president Oljon Slach heralded historic normalization between his government and Odoni's, said Foreign Minister Tonny Schou. Slach and President Avlin met for two days of negotiations in order to normalize relations between the two countries after decades of virtual silence, suspended during the Vasilin Sea crisis. Slach's campaign to reopen relations with the international community began with neighboring Vœyetska, and Avlin had voiced support to meet with Slach. During his state visit, Slach also met with King Basten IV, who is reportedly in poor health.

"We are happy to announce this new stage in our countries relationship," said Avlin. "We must pursue this together."

Avlin and Slach also discussed opening up trade agreements between the two countries and to form a recovery package for Sateroc, which is still coping from a long period of civil conflict.

LIVE: First peacekeepers arrive in Zalluabed as ceasefire reached
As Feyt Ayat and the Zakaraban government institute a ceasefire, CCA peacekeepers have been dispatched to Qahazar

Image
CCA peacekeepers arrived in Zalluabed to enforce a buffer zone between the Qahazar peninsula
Interim President Jirhayu Bjyala and Feyt Ayat governing officials have declared that a ceasefire agreement has been reached after weeks of negotiations in the Mist Carthara Islands, as CCA peacekeepers arrive in the battle-worn nation to enforce a buffer zone between rebel controlled and military controlled areas, and to separate the PRQ-held Qahazar peninsula. The ceasefire agreement does not end the ongoing civil war, as there are several armed factions of resistance unaligned with Feyt Ayat still battling the Zakaraban-run government, but the bulk of fighting across the country is now under a ceasefire. Meanwhile, as around 8,000 CCA peacekeepers settle into their positions, the PRQ continues to resist ANS-WEDA aerial bombardments, today firing more missiles into the Emmiria Sea.

"This ceasefire will allow humanitarian shipments to get through to beleagured populations not only in the government held areas, but rebel-claimed territories as well," Bjyala stated. "This ceasefire does not mean we have ended our drive to eradicate the movement of Feyt Ayat, but we did this in compromise for the people of Zalluabed, which is what we know is best interest."

Feyt Ayat spokespersons said that they would continue to negotiate for an autonomous governing region during the ceasefire, similar to the authority granted to the HPLF in the 2021 Osea Accords for Hisrea.

As the ceasefire was implemented, the first deployments of CCA peacekeepers arrived in Zalluabed, taking up their positions and forming checkpoints along agreed-to routes and specifically along the defacto border of southern Qahazar. Reports of exchanged gunfire between peacekeeping forces and the PRQ has come through, though it has been widely peaceful as the deployments are reporting cooperation from both the Zakaraban government and Feyt Ayat. The deployment of peacekeepers consists of troops from more than a dozen nations, with the bulk consisting of Sprotavian, Utobanian, Alterramean, and Somodian soldiers.

The Coalition of Crown Albatross appears posed to implement a sweeping peacekeeping mission at the first week of 2024, ending out the term of the security council rotation. The mission, which is being supported by the WEDA/ANS aerial campaign already underway in Qahazar, institutes plans and goals of the proposed mission as follows;
- Establish a buffer zone between Zalluabedi government-held territory, pro-democracy rebel-held territory, and the Qahazar peninsula.
- At such time as peace has been restored, an internationally monitored referendum will be held to install an interim government in Qahazar.
- Considering that the situation in the Qahazar peninsula constitutes a threat to international peace and stability, the force will be deployed for an initial period of twelve months.
- An arms embargo on Qahazar should not apply to weapons and military equipment intended for the peacekeeping mission.
- Urges and demands all parties in the region observe a ceasefire and ensure the safety of the mission, calling on the PRQ, Zakaraban-centered military, and rebel parties to co-operate with the peacekeepers.

Alippovich sells Allhofen United to shared ownership
Ownership of the team will be held in majority by three individual businessmen
Image
The Beleroskovian billionaire was pushed to sell the club after the ANS opened investigations into his business dealings overseas.

Allhofen- Beleroskovian billionare Afanasiy Alippovich, owner of Premier League club Allhofen United, has sold the team to a shared-ownership deal. Somodi billionare Aktug Sarica, Besmenian construction mogul Kurt Bohlmann, and Wallenland entrepreneur Ronaldo Ha'okoà will share ownership of the team moving forward after signing a 1.2 billion norta deal, one of the most expensive team sales in Nortuan history. Sarica and Bohlmann will each take 35% stake in the team, Ha'okoà will own 15%, while the remaining 10% will be split among other shareholders. Alippovich was pressured to sell the team as the Alliance of Nortuan States began clamping down on the businessman for his controversial dealings overseas, including with the highest ranks of Beleroskovian politics like President Vladimir Belskorski.

"This era with a team I have long loved has come to an end, as a new one moves ahead," Alippovich said in a press conference after the sale was made official. "This club has accomplished so much, I am proud of what we built here, and am thrilled to see where the team can go."

The deal to sell was made with multiple offers ultimately joining under a joint-ownership. Ronaldo Ha'okoà, a Wallenlander entrepreneur among whose companies include Blue Eye Rum Ltd., will now become the main alcoholic beverage sponsor for Allhofen United, with drinks expected to be on menus through Belton Park beginning this week. Kurt Bohlmann, a Besmenian construction contractor, investor in industrial investments and real estate, and TV reality-star reached the majority share deal with Somodi billionare Aktug Sarica, the owner of Ülker. Ülker is an athletic footwear and apparel corporation headquartered in Senbodia, Somodi. It is one of the world's largest suppliers of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment and will now provide Allhofen's team kits.

Afanasiy Alippovich owned Allhofen United, a Premier League football club, since 2013. He is one of the richest people in the world, with an estimated net worth of ℤ44.5 billion. Much of his wealth comes from the private investment company Hourre Capital and mining company Carrante. He has Beleroskovian, San Martinan, and Alcarresean citizenship. Alippovich has faced controversy for his connections with Beleroskovian politicians, including Presidents Nikolai Ubotrov and Vladimir Belskorski.

Last summer, Alippovich was subject to Elbresian government investigations and later a broader ANS insight for alleged money laundering and racketeering. While the investigations are still underway, many Allhofen shareholders pulled out of the club and others threatened to do so unless Alippovich sold the team.

Leaked report highlights military concern for renewed Jinchon Sea crisis

A renewed crisis in the Jinchon Sea is likely in 2024, with a Yuaneze-led ACWAC blockade or “quarantine” of either Siniapore, Gangkou, or both seen as the most likely scenario. That’s according to a leaked report from Siniaporean and Zamastanian military officials this weekend, as President Mulia bin Andika's office stated that the leak constitutes a "grave cybersecurity breach," but that the Siniaporean government and military are "prepared to respond in any way to potential aggression."

The leaked report contained details that indicate Yuan has the “capabilities to execute a law enforcement led-quarantine [or] a People’s Liberation Army (PLA)-led blockade of Siniapore or Gangkou,” but less believed a forceful invasion was possible. The report draws a distinction between a “quarantine” and a “blockade.” According to the report, a quarantine against Siniapore — the stifling of commercial routes by Yuaneze, nonmilitary actors — would signal a plan to coerce rather than usurp government, whereas a military blockade by the PLA would likely signal a goal “to force immediate unification in the next five years.”

A “crisis” is defined as a “significant increase in cross-strait tensions that is accompanied by at least a major PLA exercise aimed at coercing Siniapore and renewed Yuaneze threats to use force against the state.”

Prime Minister Thaaqib bin Abdus Samad described the attraction of a quarantine/blockade approach as “a lower cost or lower risk means of coercing Siniapore” that simultaneously “puts pressure on Siniapore, Zamastan and our allies in WEDA to figure out how to respond — it puts the burden of escalation on us.”

Abdus Samad said ecisionmakers need to calculate how to respond to scenarios in the West Ausiana seas short of an outright invasion.

According to the report, a renewed Jinchon Sea crisis was likely or very likely in 2024. Additionally, the report said ongoing efforts to stabilize Zamastanian-Yuan ties would not stave such a crisis. A majority of both Zamastanian and Siniaporean military officials, names cited in the report, said a quarantine of outlying Siniaporean islands was the “likeliest action if Shanghan seeks to punish or coerce Siniapore.” Other possible routes would be increased military drills or a blockade of Gangkou, similar to what began to occur in 2022.

A combination of factors has experts anticipating some sort of escalation in 2024. Siniapore once again went against Yuan's wishes with the November 2023 election of Worker's Party presidential candidate Mulia bin Andika, who is skeptical of Yuan's ambitions toward the small state. Most experts expected Shanghan to change its approach in reaction to the election. Yuan has called Andika “dangerously in love with our enemies,” and characterized the election he won as a choice between peace and war. Following his election, communications between Andika and Shanghan officials are non-existent. The report said there is a “temptation” for Yuan to test Andika, “who does not have a background in military affairs.”

Former prime minister Richard Benkel announces his candidacy for the presidential election

There is an increase in the selection of candidates for the federal presidential election. On Tuesday, the former President of the Federal Constitutional Court and short-term Prime Minister Richard Benkel announced his candidacy for the highest office in the state via video message.

In the video distributed on social media, Benkel presented himself as an independent candidate and federal president of civil society. He is beholden to no one except the people, the voters and his own conscience. He wants a society of fair balance that supports the weak and does not place undue burdens on the strong. “That’s what I stand for and that’s why I’m ready to run,” said the 66-year-old Benkel. Benkel was aware that he was going into the election as an outsider, he said, but this was also an opportunity. “I want to be an independent candidate for everyone who wants a new policy. This will be determined by honesty, courage and responsibility."

Richard Benkel, a qualified lawyer and working lawyer, was Vice President of the Besmenian Federal Constitutional Court from 2004 to 2015 and its President from 2015 to 2021. After the Besmenian federal government was dismissed by the Federal Chamber through a motion of no confidence in spring 2021, Benkel was commissioned by Federal President Von Schilling to form a caretaker government. The government in office from May to September 2021 with Benkel as Prime Minister was the first technocratic government in the Federal Republic of Besmenia.

New Unity gains seats in general election, Liepiņa to continue second PM term

SEMALLE - Prime Minister Vitālija Liepiņa and the New Unity Party have carried a landslide election, gaining 8 seats to their already vital majority in parliament as the Conservatives and their minority opposition coalition had a net loss. The New Unity Party won a majority of 73 seats in the 126-seat parliament, a net gain of 8, on 53.6% of the popular vote, the highest percentage for any party since the 1979 general election. Conservative Party leader Ornets Brunkevičs, who had been slated to run for Prime Minister, called the results of his party nationwide a "grave disappointment", as Liepiņa's cabinet indicated they are already setting aside 'election mode' for governing mode.

Having failed to gain a majority in the 2020 election, the Conservative Party (Norlansia) were forced to form a minority coalition with the NDP and Populists while New Unity held a slim 2-seat majority. Vitālija Liepiņa's election in 2020, having cycled out Conservative PM Radvilis Brunkevičs, refused calls to order a snap election and opted to wait for the constitutional date. The Conservatives chose their party leader, Ornets Brunkevičs, to run for Prime Minister against Liepiņa.

New Unity picked up 8 seats and widened their majority in parliament to 73, while the Conservatives had a net loss of 4 for a total of 49. The NDP won 3 seats, while the Populist Party only held one. The Conservatives, NDP, and Populist thus formed another minority coalition.

Brunkevičs own seat was narrow, because while he is popular in his own district, Brunkevičs's opponent sought to make his age a determining factor. Brunkevičs is 74 years old to his NUP opponent, Linde Meldere, who is 38. While Meldere lost, it was narrow at 51-49%. Meanwhile, the wider national votes against conservatives were similar, with the average age of NUP candidates being 48 to the Conservative's 61.

PRQ launches largest rocket barrage since November 30th
No one was injured in the attack, but several structures were damaged and a ship in the Emmiria Sea was struck

OPINION by Assan Knalla

TARIJIBAR - The Emmirian military and WEDA naval vessels shot down nearly 30 missiles fired by the Kubani Unit in Qahazar, as the renegade insurgents launched their largest barrage since the beginning of Operation Afton in late November. Despite the dozens of projectiles being intercepted, at least 6 missiles made it past air defenses and landed in southern Emmiria around the port of Tarijibar. No injuries were reported from the attack, though structural damage to some houses and an oil depot have occurred. Additionally, a cargo vessel transiting the Emmiria Sea en-route to the Tarijar Strait was struck by a projectile, though no injuries were reported and the ship continued on its way to port in Albarine. President Akram Sulaiman said that the barrage likely represents the "last attempt of a desperate and faltering group" to resist the nearly two-month long aerial bombardments by WEDA and ANS warplanes, which have been conducting air strikes against the PRQ and General el-dar Moussa since late November.

"Our preparedness for such events prevented any casualties on the ground or at sea," Sulaiman said, "and our air defense systems worked to perfection. The missiles that got through were in areas with no coverage, so we know what to improve moving forward, but this attack and its scale reveals desperation from a group which is on its last legs."

Operation Afton was launched in late 2023 by WEDA and the ANS after a series of rocket attacks across the Emmiria Sea and the Tarijar Strait region by the self-proclaimed PRQ, a separatist branch of the Royal Zalluabed Defense Force which took control of the Qahazar peninsula after declaring their split from the military. Since then, the capabilities of the PRQ to launch attacks has been diminished greatly, and the intervention of a no-fly zone by the coalition was a determining factor in pushing rebel group Feyt Ayat and the Zalluabedi military to a ceasefire agreement which began on Saturday. CCA peacekeepers have since arrived in the country to enforce a buffer zone between rebel, military, and PRQ held territories.

President Edda Colabella is meeting with Constantioan government officials in Apelnisse to discuss increased bilateral trade and a proposed currency merger with the ANS, a move which would be proposed in the upcoming SBU general session and marks a major push towards a unified Nortuan government. The proposal for a merger between the ANS and the SBU has long been a dream of the more left-leaning governments across the continent, both in the east and west, but has been stifled in past decades due adjacent views by governing parties in the respective geographical organizations. While the leading party in Constantio is the NDP, a moderate conservative faction, President Tony Blanian (NDP) has been open to shared currency talks while back-peddling on ANS-SBU merger negotiations. President Colabella and her SDP governing block have been advocates for a merger and are trying to bring other SBU member governments to a similar conclusion by offering the economic incentives at the forefront.
