Thank you. I will prepare signups to go up on the 26th or 27th.

As an aside, I don't recall the NS Olympic announcements thread being a sticky, and not sure it needs to be a sticky, but ok.

A quick update on signups, signups should go up tomorrow or Friday latest, just cleaning up the signup spreadsheet as I'm using Queb's from the last summer Games so there's a lot of formatting to change.

I have a question relating to the signup excel sheet and the automatic calculations...

I am typing in names and skill numbers, but the cell that counts entries at the very top remains at 0, and I am not good enough at excel/sheets to figure out why that is. It doesn't seem like other people have had the issue from looking at the other entries. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

They're cells F18 and F19 for reference. The issue is that if they don't count correctly, I cannot figure out what my Standard deviation is either, and it complicates matters slightly. I get the same issue both in Google Sheets and in Excel, so it's not due to the fact that my Excel translates everything into Danish, at least.

Hmm. That's weird.

There is a workaround to count the total number of entries, which would be =COUNTIF(F30:F495, ">-1"), which should count every cell in the skill column with a value of 0 or greater. You can try replacing what's in F18 with that. (At the moment, F18 references column J, which checks to ensure that all name and skill cells should be filled out, and returns "TRUE" if they are not. F18 counts the number of "FALSE"s, which should be the number of entries).

If you try =COUNTIF(F30:F495, ">-1") in F18, that may solve that issue.

You know what, thanks. I think your solution would have worked, but part of what you wrote led me to the solution in a different way.

It WAS actually my excel translating that was the issue.

What happens is that in all of J column, it returns TRUE or FALSE in Danish.

But in F18, it still said "FALSE". So obviously, since the Danish for "FALSE" is "FALSK", it didn't work. It seems to work now. I have a number at least. Thanks for the assist. Now it's just trying to get 400 names typed in in time for the deadline :D

Welcome to NationStates Sports! The current Olympics is in progress, meaning that you'll have to wait until the next Summer Olympics. After a host wins the rights to host the tournament (do be aware of the warning in the OP of this thread, of course), they will open a sign-up thread with instructions on how to enter your athletes. Unfortunately, there isn't really a specified timeline for this to happen - sometimes we've had a Summer Olympics in the Northern Hemisphere summer, other times in the Southern Hemisphere summer, and it really depends on the availability and schedule of the host. The best thing to do, then, is to watch this thread, or the #olympics channel in the NSS Discord (link is an invitation) for an update as to how the next Olympics will play out.

Once again, welcome!

Bid for the Games of the XVIII Olympiad - Liventia and Electrum

Hamilton, Electrum and Schimpol, Liventia presents its bid for the Games of the XVIII Olympiad.

Events
All events, including those on the extended list, will be run using xkoranate. The mixed marathon walk will run instead of the individual 50km walk events. Sports will be played using the Paris formats and rules where possible. Qualification events will occur for team sports, and may occur for non-team sports. Alternatively, extra preliminary rounds will be played for non-team sports within the Olympics proper.

Timeline
Sign ups will be open immediately after the bid is accepted and will run until very early September. Preference is for the host vote to be as soon as possible. Tournament will run around 7-30 September.

Roleplay scoring
RP bonus will be degrading, but never to zero. Roster/information thread bonuses will count separately and permanently without degradation. MMAB will be utilised, see below (may be adjusted slightly once the bid is accepted):

1–30 entries: Full MMAB for any STDEV
31–80 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 35 or less
81–175 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 30 or less
176–300 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 25 or less
301+ entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 20 or less

MMAB will scale proportionally to how far over the acceptable each delegation is. A 33% min-max penalty, applied to overall RP bonus, will apply to delegations with a standard deviation more than three points above the limit, or for any delegation with 31+ entries with a standard deviation over 35. These delegations will also have their MMAB capped at 0.667 (a 33% penalty on the maximum) even if their MMAB would otherwise be higher.

Entry limits
Each user may enter a maximum of two delegations, with the main and the puppet delegation clearly marked. There is no maximum limit for one delegation (other than the technical limit of sending the full amount of entries in each event) but a user may send 600 entries overall spread across their two delegations. Skill ratings will range from 0 to 100, inclusive, but the overall average for each delegation must not exceed 50 points. Puppets must be clearly declared. Any undeclared puppetry detected will result in expulsion from the Games and vacating of results, with other athletes promoted.

Combined delegations with multiple NOC codes may be entered only when made up of nations controlled by multiple users. Individual users wishing to enter multiple teams may do so in a single combined delegation with a single NOC code or in the traditional main/puppet format. Users may also enter as part of a combined delegation, which would count as the main delegation, in addition to a puppet with the applicable entry limit. Combined delegations with multiple NOC codes must represent countries which each have their own NationStates account and which have a compelling regional or cultural link between them.

AI policy
All use of AI direct text output will be prohibited (using AI to generate ideas etc that does not result in the final text output being AI-generated is fine). Please declare any and all use of AI, or risk expulsion from the Games and vacating of results with other athletes promoted, if such unauthorised use is detected.

Presidency
Electrum will be the Olympic Council President at the conclusion of the Games.

Hello! I will be hosting a rowing and canoeing regatta for users interested in those sports. It's a non-RP event, so all you have to do is sign up and then I'll scorinate the results mid-late August - a couple of weeks before the sign-ups for the XVIII Games close. It'd be a great way to have your athletes head to an unofficial warm-up event before the Games and to add some content to your RPs. I'll also be hosting a Water Polo Grand Prix alongside it in the same thread.

Out of interest, because I cannot seem to find any definite authoritative answer on this:

In NSS 'lore', how many years are there between Olympiads? Is it 4 like in real life, or is it 1 like the amount of time between the Olympic Games being arranged?

I am asking for the purpose of aging up previous athletes and seeing who might still be there or not and would love to hear if there is any clear way to judge this?

Most users consider the Olympics to be every 4 years, just like real life. However, NS Sports notorious for using "fluid time," where a lot of users have different amounts of time between cycles up to personal preference. It's impossible to enforce a singular standard in any sport, much less the Olympics.

Basically, 4 is standard for the Olympics, but nobody is going to give you grief if you diverge from that.
