Match of the week: CF Capitale 2-3 Griffin Isles United
As Griffin Isles United looked to secure their lead at the top of the table, they visited a struggling CF Capitale in Jolicoeur to start the final stretch of the season. Thierry Desilet's team put a lot of pressure on the league leaders early on. Alexia Brant's looked like she had picked out an open teammate for the opening goal but it was soon overturned by the linesman announcing offside. The Ministers would continue pushing but a great counter attacking play from their opponents caught Capitale off guard and as the ball made it past Rémie Valcourt. The CF would soon answer with Hergé Calpier making an impressive run out of right back to find Murray Millard in the box on an early cross. Brant would score just before halftime giving her team the lead. While the second half contained more back and forth, CF Capitale looked poised to secure their first win in 7 matches, but late game tiredness and indiscipline saw them snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by allowing two goals in the last five minutes sending the league leaders home with all three points.

For the final matchday of the season, plenty of teams were still looking to better their standing position. Athlétique Alexandrie having secured a spot in the Omnium final looked to finish a disappointing league season on a positive note as they hosted AS Couen. The Lions looked to keep hold of second place capping off an impressive season. The visitors led the play most of the game and aided by a Heather Graham brace, took the 3-0 victory. Meanwhile, Union Port-la-Ville could only secure second in the event of a Couen defeat but the Matelots still played a perfect game completing the season with a clean sheet against CF Capitale who could only hope that the only way they can go is up next season. Stade Conflans had fourth place secured but the team still played well in preparation for Omnium final. The Reds made short work of the Rovers scoring three goals in the early goings and not looking back. Finally, league champions Griffin Isles United were visiting in Héron-sur-Fleuve. The Finns ended their season with convincing win before celebrating with the travelling group of fans in Stade de la Victoire.

The Pinnacle Series saw Olympique Yvesmont run away with the title. Their success in the league overshadowed a less than stellar performance in the Omnium Cup. Asche City followed closely behind while AS Vilnay secured the final spot in the Liga B Champions Trophy.

Omnium du Montagnard: Omnium du Montagnard - Semi Finals
Athletique Alexandrie 3–2 Grand-Ours Rovers
Grand-Ours Rovers looked to reach the final to defend their title but an eager Athlétique Alexandrie stood in their way. In a close fought game, both teams traded goals until Philibert Palmier scored the game winner sending his team to the final.

AS Vilnay 1–1 Stade Conflans (1–1 AET) (4–5 pen.)
Impressively, AS Vilnay reached the semi-finals beating plenty of great to get there. Standout players Élodie Bélanger and Simon Juneau connected to open the scoring, but national team forward Lucien Graham would find a way to divest himself of his defender before beating the Vilnay netminder. With extra-time not finding a winner, the teams lined up for spot kicks. Conflans keeper Laura O'Neill would be the difference helping her team reach the final.

Omnium du Montagnard - Final
Athletique Alexandrie 2–0 Stade Conflans
Aerolandia Stadium (39,952), Jolicoeur, Abelanne
The nation's capital was the venue for a very exciting Omnium du Montagnard final. The two sides play each other often in the Super 8 and spirits were bound to be high as both teams chase some silverware to close out the season. The A's were defensively sound in the opening stages, not forcing play with the risk of making an error. Conflans' Stéphanie Groulx rattled the woodwork but it would be Alexandrie's Éloïse Ott who would beat Laura O'Neill to open the scoring. Loïc Laflèche would add the insurance goal late in the game from a set play. As the green and white confetti fell on the field, the team lifted the cup victoriously celebrating with the fans that had made their way to the stadium to cheer them on.

PLH Season 8

Season 8 of the PLH saw Blackbay Islanders top the table for the third time in six seasons. Marion Prunel and Robert Moran led the Islanders to a remarkable season. The team out of the Griffin Isles finished nine points clear of the second place Anchors. Francis Seymour's team edged out the Flankers to secure the home ice advantage for the playoffs to come. While Renée Latraverse did not have the the MVP caliber season we have come to expect, the offense worked overtime with James Offmeister recording a monster 25 goal season. The Flankers surprised a lot of observers with tidy play from their young core of players. Only two season removed from promotion to the top flight, the team seemed to have gelled together and, aided by a few players from the championship winning WJHC team, finally brought a playoff appearance to the Sourterrian metropolis. The final playoff spot was taken by the Oreilly Irish. For the first time in the first division playoffs after multiple entries in the CHP promotional playoffs, the Irish enlisted the help of veteran Jerome Dartagne to lead the team. Falling just shy of the playoff spot, the Asche Flames and Alexandrie HC both dealt with injuries which caused trouble throughout the year. In the relegation battle, Héron-sur-Fleuve and HC Jolicoeur barely edged out the Axes and Guys who will unfortunately fall down a rung on the professional hockey ladder.

CHP Season 8

In the CHP, the Yetis secured automatic promotion by finishing clearly ahead of the Bataillon. Goaltender Beth Clements surprised plenty of pundits with her improvements during the off season. Experts will be hoping her play carries over to the top flight. Batille will be facing off against the Sabres in the promotional playoffs. The Cleaners fell just short of the coveted playoff spot but the team as seem great growth from young players such as Jason Calico and Raymond Quesnel.

The promotional playoffs saw the Sabres blow an early series lead to bring them to the brink of elimination. Joel Mann lead the Chaville team to a 4-2 lead with a 3 point night prolonging the series to a fifth and decisive game. In a tense match, Charles Papineau Arena was filled with eager fans that fell silent as Terry Saltera scored the decisive goal with a shot from the point that took multiple deflections before finding the back of the net. In the Patriot Cup Playoffs first round, the Islanders swept the Irish easily in three remarkable high scoring games. The Moran, Curtis and Prunel line that ravaged opposing defenses all season made no exceptions and completely dismantled the Irish. In the second series, the Anchors took on the Flankers. While Conflans kept the games close, Port-la-Ville managed to get the early series lead that was too much for Parmentier et al. to overcome. The Flankers would fall in games leading, once again, to a Port-la-Ville - Blackbay final. With the coveted Patriot Cup up for grabs, both teams put up their best lineup. the Anchors would first break home ice advantage by securing game one through a tightly contested affair. The Islanders would even the series thanks to a masterful performance from their defense to complete the shutout. With the series heading back to Port-la-Ville and everything still in the air, the Anchors did not waste their fans' support by securing the deciding matches of the best of 5 series at Formatech Arena. Fans erupted as the team paraded around the ice, lifted above their favourite player's head, the Patriot cup glistened in the lights.

Season Preview

Lots of things happened during the off season in the soccer world. The Patriotlandian national team had a respectable World Cup qualifying campaign culminating in Cup of Harmony invitation. Despite group stage exists in both competition our compatriots proved themselves on the world stage garnering interests from foreign clubs. Lots of players decided to seek greener pastures during the off season, it will be interesting to see how the league balance was affected with the carrousel of players. With important pieces seeking greener pastures, a lot of positions opened up for clubs to fill during the window. Some teams went shopping for top international talent while others are giving a shot to academy players. Some teams will be looking to build on last season's momentum while underperformers will look reverse it before it becomes a trend.

The league announced it had received interest from teams, sponsors and fans to increase the number of top flight from the present eight. This would surely lead to a league rebranding effort, but officials stated it would take a few seasons to evaluate different strategies. It is worth noting that Olympique Yvesmont's ban from top flight soccer is due to expire in the same timeframe leading many to speculate if the OY will get the nod and join the top teams after dominating the Pinnacle Series. Fans and pundits alike have also debated the addition of a relegation mechanism from the Super 8 League but the current franchise would surely want compensation from the added risk to revenue such a system would impose.

AS Couen's second place finish last season surprised quite a few but the team did see a lot of progression from key players such as Heather Graham and Harlow Hopkins. The Lions have brought in help at the top with the signing of Xannerian forward Justin Ingram. He is touted as a talented player so it will be interesting to see how he develops with the team and how his tandem with Graham works on the pitch. The midfield is composed is seasoned but still has room to improve. The defense got a bit younger with the exit of Claire Tireuil for the Tikariot league, with some experts saying they might be a bit too green to fight at the top, but momentum is strong in the Super 8 and Couen definitely has the offensive upside to pull out ahead of matches.

A disappointing league season was somewhat salvaged by winning the Omnium du Montagnard. International arrivals of Advenie Le Prévost and Emma Leonardsdóttir should help the team turn towards the future as both players will have time to develop in the Patriotlandian top flight. Alexandrie's midfield will again be a strong suit heading into the season. Experts agree that the As should not be in position to challenge for the top spots but the team will look to play spoilers for contending teams and mount a good defense of the Omnium.

The CF has gained a lot of traction in recent years in the Pinnacle series before getting the formal invitation into the Super 8 league. The team's conservative style may not be as flamboyant as other clubs, but a loud and dedicated fanbase makes the calm governmental city one of the toughest away games on the calendar.

The Ministers were not idle this off season, despite losing a few key players to transfers and free agency, the team added former Stade Conflans striker Raphaël Michaux. He will hopefully bring some key finishing to the offense. Quebecois international Kiana Woo also enters the nation's capital. The center-back played in the Chromatik league before her transfer which will undoubtedly result in a wealth of experience on the back lines. Midfielder Snow Andersen is coming in as a relative unknown but early assessment through camp shows promise. Keeper Betty Dean is also joining the team between net. CF Capitale look like a more complete package this season even if fans and experts predict another difficult season.

The Rovers fell to the eventual Omnium champions in the semi-final but Grand-Ours' season did not please sponsors, pundits or fans. Players were not impressed either as the offseason saw Évrard Solomon, Véronique Abraham and Arnaud Francoeur change postal addresses but the team did add Mike Potenza from Khalgarh Valley in Tikariot who will hopefully work well with fellow midfielders. Elie Manahan saw plenty of time on the pitch for the national team. The young midfielder will be looking to share his newfound experience with his teammates to hopefully lift the Rovers out of the bottom of the league.

Season 4

AS Couen 1-1 Union Port-la-Ville
Athletique Alexandrie 1-1 Stade Conflans
CF Capitale 0-2 Rapides St-Charles
Grand-Ours Rovers 1-2 Griffin Isles United

Match of the week: Grand-Ours Rovers 1-2 Griffin Isles United
To start the season, the reigning champions took to the road and traveled to Grand-Ours to face the Rovers. While the Grand-Ours fans are not expecting their team to fight for a championship, PatrioComm Park was full of energy as the fresh start brings in the hope of a new season. Cody Fulton would open the scoring by finding just enough space in the box to place a shot on target. A leaping François Varaut would not be enough to save it leading to champs jumping a goal ahead. Half time would bring out the best out of both teams as play livened. A drawn foul by newcomer Mike Potenza allowed Elie Manahan to stand over the ball with a great position to go for goal. The midfielder managed to curl the ball expertly over the wall before seeing squeek past the post to tie the game. The stands erupted in cheers but would fall quiet once more as Griffin Isles would counter minutes later and regain the lead for good. Rodney Achigan, after the match, was all praise for his team: "You know, starting the season on the road is not easy, but adding to that the weight and pressure of a title defense. I think the lads and lasses did tremendous".

Match of the week: Rapides St-Charles 2-1 Union Port-la-Ville
The Raftsman played host to Union for the second match day of the season to sold out crowd at Stade de la Victoire. Early on, Laurence Salaison received a brilliant pass from Nirlo-Nirlo Bel to make her way past the home side's back five an in on goal. The experienced striker wasted no time before placing the ball past the keepers outstretched legs and into the net. The early goal seemed to awaken the attacking monster of Rapides St-Charles. The home side were all over Union's attempts before launching counter attacks deep into the enemy half. Iocilin Bedard would score his first in his new colours bringing the crowd back to life. Just before halftime, Orphélie Rodin-Baker scored her first top flight goal deflecting a corner kick. Maxence Carinthe's team then closed down defensively in the second half bringing in some very important points early on in the season.

Match of the week: Athletique Alexandrie 0-1 CF Capitale
Parc du Nord was the site for our game of the week. The As were looking to turn around amidst a dismal start to the season. Similarly, CF Capitale wanted to turn the page, having been blanked in the past two games. Both teams played cautiously in the early goings. Alexia Brant would rattle the crossbar with the first real threat of the match. Emma Leonardsdóttir, Alexandrie's new signing impressed with some well timed run past the CF defense, but the As were unable to find the back of the net. Betty Dean would also rob Philibert Palmier minutes later as Athletique Alexandrie started to put more pressure. The Omnium du Montagnard champions would however get burned as Snow Andersen made a brilliant run down the right flank opening up Raphaël Michaux for an early cross that beat Renald Legrand. The away section went wild as their team hung on to the one goal lead till the end securing the three points for the Ministers.

Match of the week: Griffin Isles United 2-1 AS Couen
Last season champions played host to the runner ups for an important match up for both clubs. Rain was a factor early on as players seemed to struggle to find grip on the slippery field, but the weather gradually improved leading to more and more cohesive play from both clubs. Justin Ingram opened the scoring after a masterclass of passing by AS Couen's midfield dissected the Finns' defense. Ignacio Curbelo would then tie at one after dribbling into the box and creating just enough space to shoot. Chris O'Keefe would add another for Griffin Isles United taking advantage of an half-hearted clearing attempt. Late in the match Ingram looked like he was sent on the perfect run in on goal, but the striker's seemingly tired legs gave out under him as he slipped on the wet pitch. Unfortunately for Couen, this was their last meaningful chance before the final whistle.

The home side played well early on. Maintaining pressure and created good chances. Nirlo-Nirlo Bel would score their first with the Matelots to opened the scoring. The midfielder tried their luck from range after a missed clearing attempt and placed expertly in the top corner. The Finns would answer later in the half with Ignacio Curbelo finding the back of the net after Paul Lataupe could not control the ball. Both teams would try and score the deciding goal in the second half but the referee would blow his whistle with the teams squared at one.

Zachary Trell opened the scoring for the home side, but Conflans then took over control of the match keeping the lion's share of possession throughout the rest of the match. An important match was ahead for the Rovers as they hosted perennial contender Union Port-la-Ville. The Grand-Ours crowd was hyped up as the players took to the pitch and their energy soon doubled as Elie Manahan found Vanessa Huet to score the opening goal. However, Fortinello and Langlais would score for Union before the half. Steve Dumoulin would add a third unanswered goal for Port-la-Ville to really silence the crowd. Soon after though, Doki Eiken got booked following a strong tackle in the defensive third. Mike Potenza was able to redirect the free kick home to bring the Rovers back to just one goal away. With a second wind of energy, the Travelling Bears were able to find the equalizer in the closing minutes of injury time. The As were visited by Rapides St-Charles this week trying to overcome a shocking start to the season. Philibert Antagnole's team played a defensive masterclass. Rapides St-Charles 1-2 Union Port-la-Ville
Griffin Isles United 2-0 Athletique Alexandrie
Grand-Ours Rovers 0-2 CF Capitale

Match of the week: Rapides St-Charles 1-2 Union Port-la-Ville
This week, Union Port-la-Ville travelled to Stade de la Victoire in Héron-sur-Fleuve to face off with Rapides St-Charles. Iocilin Bedard scored the initial goal, gathering a rebound from Kayden Boatwright. Rapides showed some enthusiasm early and looked on course for a long overdue upset on the perennial league contenders. As half time rolled around, Union put more pressure on the Raftsmans but the Rapides defense was able to hold them off. Just as the win looked in the bag, discord in the penalty box allowed Bertrand Langlais to sneak in and put an attempt on goal unchallenged to tie the game back at one. Injury time would see Union complete the comeback with Steve Dumoulin scoring a rare goal to the elation of his teammates.
Other stories:
  • Couen and Griffin Isles: Blow for blow at the top of the table.
  • Raphaël Michaux and Brant combine for two goals to lead CF Capitale to victory.

AS Couen 2-0 Rapides St-Charles
Stade Conflans 3-3 Griffin Isles United
Union Port-la-Ville 1-0 Grand-Ours Rovers
Athletique Alexandrie 1-0 CF Capitale

Match of the week: Stade Conflans 3-3 Griffin Isles United
After losing some important points to the hands of AS Couen last week, Stade Conflans were hoping the home field advantage would be enough to break the momentum of the high flying Griffins. Cody Fulton opened the scoring to the cheers of the away section fans. The winger cut it from the touchline unchallenged before beating the goalkeeper on the nearside. A strong challenge from Siebe Moersleutel on Stéphanie Groulx would give Conflans a strong opportunity with a set piece. Guy Sarazin kicked the ball up for Lucien Graham to head in. Before halftime however, Griffin Isles United would head out with a two score lead with O'keefe and Curbelo adding to the tally. Conflans would rally in the second frame with Annabella Rose feeding Graham into the box for his second of the game. Guy Sarazin would score the equalizer just before injury to send both teams home with a point.

Match of the week: Athletique Alexandrie 1-0 Grand-Ours Rovers
With the worst team in the league in town, Athlétique Alexandrie were hoping to score some valuable points. The weather made things difficult for both sides as the pitch quickly water logged leaving puddles and mud patches. In a somewhat throwback spectacle, both teams were fighting to keep control of the ball. Eloise Ott would eventually score the only goal of the match beating François Varaut as the ball trickled over the goal line.

This week's matchup pits the Grand-Ours Rovers who are looking for any ray of hope on a terrible season by any metric and a Stade Conflans team looking to improve on their lackluster season. The Rovers soon gained the upper hand when Mike Potenza made a deep run down the touch lines before finding Vanessa Huet in the box. Season 4 - Part 6

Grand-Ours Rovers 1-1 AS Couen
CF Capitale 2-2 Griffin Isles United
Athletique Alexandrie 0-1 Rapides St-Charles
Union Port-la-Ville 1-2 Stade Conflans

Match of the week: Union Port-la-Ville 1-2 Stade Conflans
The last Classique of the season saw Stade Conflans visit the confines of Navy Memorial Stadium. Nirlo-Nirlo Bel opened the scoring after a failed clearing attempt from the Rouges fell to their feet. Minutes later, it looked like Bertrand Langlais made the perfect run on goal beating Laura O'Neill. However, the winger had strayed offside just enough and as the ball settled behind the goal line, the offside was raised.
Other stories:
  • Charpentier secures the win for Rapides with late goal.
  • Brant and Michaux combine to rally for draw against Griffin Isles United.

AS Couen 1-0 CF Capitale
Grand-Ours Rovers 0-2 Athletique Alexandrie
Griffin Isles United 2-0 Union Port-la-Ville
Rapides St-Charles 0-1 Stade Conflans

Match of the week: Griffin Isles United 2-0 Union Port-la-Ville
Fighting for the last IFCF position, Griffin Isles United were hoping their fans would make the difference as they host Union Port-la-Ville. Chris O'Keefe opened the scoring halfway through the first frame. The home crowd roared as the ball hit the back of the net and Union players were visibly shaken. The nerves seemed to have gotten to Simon Juneau as the midfielder was sent off following a very strong tackle on Valerie Fulton. Down to ten players, Union would concede one more goal in the second half, likely voiding any chance they had to claim the title in the matchday.

Other stories:
  • AS Couen secures the title with 3 points over CF Capitale.
  • Stade Conflans falls just short of IFCF spots after an impressive rally to end the season

Athletique Alexandrie 1-1 AS Couen
Union Port-la-Ville 1-0 CF Capitale
Stade Conflans 2-1 Grand-Ours Rovers
Rapides St-Charles 1-0 Griffin Isles United

Match of the week: Athletique Alexandrie 1-1 AS Couen
With the title already claimed, spirits were high in the visiting camp at Parc du Nord. Daniel Bourgeois and Leila Bettencourt would stand on the pitch for kickoff as Philibert Antagnole decided to mix up the starting line up and give a few more players some game time. Advenie Le Prévost would score on a corner attempt. The center back leapt over the defense to deflect the ball past the Couen netminder. The champions would not go down easy however as they capped off the season with another goal from Heather Graham to tie the game. As the final whistle blew, the Lions made their way to the away section to celebrate the end of the campaign with their fans. Meanwhile, Athletique fans were left wondering what changes they will see this off season and if the team will bounce back from a couple of bad seasons.

Other stories:
  • Manahan carries the Rovers again but team falls just short after off-side call.
  • Boatwright scores to end the season on a high for Rapides.

In a Super League first, Athlétique have brought in an international manager during the off season. The Orebour manager Jan Dujardin is now tasked with rebuilding the former champion into a contending team. He did not have much time to bring in many players during the transfer window but signing the South Newlandian Tom Sloan as a striker will no doubt improve the teams offensive output. The arrival of Edmée Couture from the University of Sourterre will help improve the squad's transition from box to box with her precise passing and game vision.

About: The past few seasons ended with Grand-Ours at the bottom of the table but the expansion brings a few teams the Rovers should be able to tangle with. A few young additions to the team could really set the team into an upward trajectory for the future.
Last Season: 8th
Season Aspiration: Relegation battle

Elie Manahan is still the unequivocal leader of the team. He and Mike Potenza should be key players in the midfield and the additions of Céline Alambic and Gaspard Leroux, fresh from university, should bring a jolt of energy into an offense that has been gasping for air for far too long. At the back, the Rovers brought in Aahan Sekh. The young international should bring plenty of physicality and help close passing lanes. In goal, Batille native Florianne Perrot will make her debut at the professional level. She excelled at the collegiate level which earned her a shot to impress manager Samantha Pronger.

The Finns' lineup has remained pretty much unchanged from last season bar the addition of academy graduate Valérie Sault to bring depth to the midfield. Olympique's attack is led by attacking midfielder Cécilien Vanoret. The young star had garnered interest from top clubs but decided to sign for his hometown club. He now hopes to prove his worth in the top flight. The OY also acquired the services of Aya Palmer. The former national team player will be a great anchor to stabilise the team's back line. Yvesmont's defender represent the lineup's biggest question mark.

As the teams are split into groups of six for the second part of the season, following the winter break, the clubs in the Championship Playoffs were hopeful that Union Port-la-Ville would show a hint of weakness in order to close their 10 point lead at the top of the table. The home and away round robin saw Union Port-la-Ville continue their domination doubling the total of the next best team. Griffin Isles secured second place on goal difference over CF Capitale, who had a great set of matches to close out the season. Stade Conflans had missed out on the top three by a small margin but the team kept it close enough to stay into the IFCF spots on the overall table. Olympique Yvesmont and AS Couen unfortunately fell to fifth and sixth place respectively as they struggled to score meaningful points in the ten game sprint.
Super League Championship Playoffs Standings
Pos Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts

5 Olympique Yvesmont 10 2 2 6 12 18 -6 8
6 AS Couen 10 1 4 5 7 14 -7 7

Contrary to the Championship Playoffs, the Relegation Playoffs were close all throughout. With all the teams fighting to stay in the top flight, games were full of action and the ten game playoff saw all clubs separated by only four points. Despite Couen Arsenal's best efforts and finishing top of the playoff standings, the team could not create enough of a gap to the other clubs to save themselves from relegation. Grand-Ours Rovers had a good result finishing tied on points with first place and even securing sixth in the overall standings on goal difference. Rapides St-Charles did just enough to not be troubled by relegation, unlike AS Vilnay who saw their 13 points effort fall two point short of Asche City and safety in the overall standings. Finally, Athletique Alexandrie had the worst result in the playoff but they kept close to the other clubs meaning they are safe for yet another season in the top division.

Season 6 Team Previews

AS Couen

Nickname: The Lions
City: Couen, Foubrac
Stadium: Arène Alphonse-Sintegne (Capacity: 50000)
Shirt Sponsor: Thermius
About: The biggest club in the country's second biggest city, AS Couen hopes that maintained success will bring the club back to its previous heights. Recent results on the field have slowly started to bring in more fans through the turnstiles.
Last Season: 5th
Season Aspiration: Championship Playoffs
Manager: Philibert Antagnole
Formation: 3-4-3

Roster:

A disappointing 5th saw AS Couen make a few moves this off season. The Lions brought in Evan Lachapelle from Rapides to help shore up the midfield and take the workload off of the aging Wallcroft. Meanwhile Philibert Antagnole is looking to change the look of the formation by installing a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 to hopefully spread out play and open up defenses. Finally, with the retirement of Toby Mccarthy, Justin Ingram has been given the honours of the captaincy. The first international to do so for the club.

The arrival of Jan Dujardin at Alexandrie was a bit of a mixed bag in terms of results as a disappointing Super League season made way for a Omnium trophy. But the manager now had a complete transfer window to bring in talent and the team is looking a lot stronger. Vanorian winger Ingrid Fjeld was brought in to bring some pace down the right wing. This season will also be an interesting one for the development of Marie-Soleil Vachon. The young midfielder will be hoping for more play time but opportunities might be scarce with Edmée Couture in the starting spot.
