The Polar Powerhouses

Hockey has been a massive sport in United Hawkland since the country was created. Clubs like the Østad IceBears and the Royal Ryan Lions controlled the domestic leagues. Arenas filling up, with 10,000-seat arenas being spread across the country, and almost every town in United Hawkland has a community rink. United Hawkland dominated in hockey while in the Isle of Paterie, but this is Anaia, where things will be much more competitive. Backed by head coach Mark Delania, the United Hawkland national team hopes to make an impact in the Anaian hockey scene. Most of the players come from the Kapuvud area and anything north of this. The city of Njordstad alone makes up the entire 3rd offensive line. However, only two players from the entire team come from the Southern Area of the country. (Grant Mangold, Wolfgang Laurens)

Bitterboom starts for the all-age NT, so obviously he's starting for this U23 outfit as well. The Hunters goalie can do with the extra challenge as he's all but finished the Ko-orenite league at age 21. Augoven looks to be our long-time backup, while Aegumelin will probably battle with Janszoon for a spot. In this U23 squad, we should see a bit more of Augoven and Aegumelin to show that they add that little bit extra.

Six defenders from six different teams, but they're definitely the six biggest talents going around. In order to forge some connection between them, they'll have to start playing together at some point. The defencemen are forced into some awkward pairings: mainlanders (Van Angelwoud, Maulurugdin) with islanders (Aemo, Aol), and the combative Aunopial and Eadalin - the two most talented of the bunch - who will probably have to pair up for the all-age national team down the line, so they better get their personalities in check.

So most of these names have turned out for the all-age national team. They're put together semi-randomly, with teammates on the same line where possible. That's Shisonra and Aegomenna playing with Veldappel, a line with all mainlanders (Riemaker, Van Haarberg, Van April), and a mixed bag of Tyorregul, Aivobelin, and Montrose. Tyorregul represents the ever rarer west coasters, and even Aivobelin is representing an increasingly dying breed of northern islanders - even though a majority of our 12 professional clubs play there.

The Ko-orenite league cracked down on fighting to speed games up. Don't be surprised if the Dragonflies don't respond to a call to arms. Ice hockey is a regional (but not necessarily small) sport in Ko-oren, limited to frigid Aerellen, the temperate (but cold) northeast, and parts of the unwelcoming west coast. Venues are limited, and Aerellen's largest venue hosts multiple games per day while the season is on, so speeding up games and keeping them plannable is key. Languages used by the team are Dutch and Aerellen (Ko-orenite). Aerellen names are easily recognisable, they start with vowels, featuring many Au, Ao, Ai, Ae combinations at the start of each word. Tarrashall is also a culture that you'll run into, famous players from there include Hallady Buck and Yaller Nyan, and they often play for the West Coast Blizzards.

The league has made the move from amateurism/semi-professionalism to fully professional over the last year. To get there, some teams were moved, some merged, others folded while new teams (in different locations) sprang up to fill the void. This has left part of the fanbase bitter and resentful: their team might have moved, a 80+ year old rivalry might have disappeared, etc. The rest of the fanbase has been very welcoming: more of Ko-oren can enjoy the fastest team sport in the multiverse. Still, the league didn't exactly expand beyond its usual borders (Aerellen, the northeast, and the north coast). There's also the matter of Banija's team in Schemerdrecht: while opening up the city to ice hockey, it has taken away expansion opportunities.

Burnham-on-Stove

Burnham-on-Stove is a city state of 54 square kilometers located in Anaia. It used to be a district whitin Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer and it's named after William Robert Burnham, a pirate and friend of Jean-Jacques Le Boucannier. In september 1923, several communist districts of Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, mostly of English origin, declared their independence and formed the new nation of Burnham-on-Stove. The Burnhamese Communist Party is the only authorized party in Burnham-on-Stove. The national animal is also the Tapir.

THE PLOUGH ISLANDS IN CONTEXT

The flag of the Commonwealth of the Plough Islands, a green and amber triband charged with the coat of arms, adopted on the independence of the archipelago from British colonial rule in 1960; until very recently, this was only ever seen flying outside of the country at embassies and cricket grounds.

Before the inaugural Anaian Ice Hockey Championship in March, most people in Anaia, if they thought of the Plough Islands at all, would have thought of one of two things; a quiet, polite, yet steadfast voice for the virtues of Marxism-Leninism as part of their quest to build communism in their faraway corner of the Celestial Ocean, and an affinity - often exaggerated, but not without cause - for the game of cricket that borders on the fanatical, with the national team being reigning One Day International world champions. Ice hockey would certainly not have been on their radar, and therefore it was a surprise when the Plough Islands, with only a handful of ice hockey clubs from which to draw players and no great tradition in winter sports, sent a team to the event in Koroa City.
Even further from anyone's thoughts would be the idea that they could win, and yet it happened; loosely organised and wearing increasingly frayed shirts, the Plough Islanders came together as the tournament progressed, grinding out result after result from positions of weakness and, faced with former World Cup of Hockey runners-up Ko-oren in the final, upset their regional neighbours with a 1-0 victory through a breakaway Neil Moore goal. If the result had been a surprise to most informed observers, it was a seismic shock for Paul Campbell and his team of recreational players - who, having struggled to keep up in their first matches against international opposition and been forced to repeatedly extend their leaves of absence from work to be in Koroa City, seemed unable to believe what was happening, facing the capacity crowd at the trophy presentation with almost as much fear as euphoria.
They left Koroa City with their bodies bruised and bones aching, but with their eyes newly opened by the positive media coverage generated by the underdog success of a team of socialists from Anaia's smallest country triumphing over far better resourced opposition. Seeing the possibilities, Campbell had already spent some of his considerable downtime during the tournament drafting a proposal to regularise the governance of ice hockey in the Plough Islands, and when Cde Premier Dale Piper hosted a reception for Campbell's team on their return to the country, the Premier was receptive to the idea. Legislation formally establishing the Ice Sport Union of the Plough Islands - structured along the lines of the country's trade unions, with more oversight than the semi-autonomous Plough Islands Cricket Association - was duly approved by the People's Assembly late in its spring session.
Four months on from the final in the Oasis Arena, progress has been gradual at best; many of the goals of the new organisation, such as a regular national club competition and programmes to make ice hockey a genuinely accessible sport for schools on all seven islands, still exist on the Premier's desk rather than in reality. Nevertheless, the foundations have been laid - quite literally, with a disused warehouse in the Sutton docklands undergoing conversion to a modern ice sports complex, with coaching facilities and spectator seating - for a positive future for ice hockey in the country, and the team travelling to defend their title will take strength from that. Should they succeed, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that in years to come, Anaians might yet learn to associate the Plough Islands with more than just communism and cricket.

THE PLOUGH ISLANDS IN PROFILE

The core of the Plough Islands team will be familiar to those who saw them in Koroa City; there, their bonds were forged through adversity as much as through victory, suffering from attrition to the point that by the time of the final against Ko-oren the Plough Islanders were fielding the only six players they had fit. A number of new names also feature in the expanded ten-player squad, mostly drawn from the ice sports club at the University of the Plough Islands in Lainemouth; in theory, this should breathe fresh oxygen into a side that had at times flagged towards the end of games in the Oasis Arena, as well as broaden the geographical base of the team outside of Sutton and New Hibernia.
At least on paper, Paul Campbell continues as team captain, but the 45-year-old has yet to play a full sixty minutes since returning to the ice following the final, and either Lauren Piper or Peter Zakharov are likely to deputise for Campbell in most matches. Outside of the captaincy and the two goaltenders, Plough Islander ice hockey has a liberal attitude to player roles; most players will drift between attack and defence as the game situation requires, and any references below to position will be largely a matter of personal preference.

Had he not been nursing a broken wrist, Matthew Campbell would likely have joined his father Paul and Lauren Piper in playing every game in Koroa City; a very quick skater with a well-developed tactical understanding of ice hockey learned from years of weekend games with his family, he would have been a reasonable contender for any role, but was a logical first choice for his preferred goaltender position with his quick reflexes and endurance.
As it happened, he instead came in - with a plaster cast - for the United Hawkland game to relieve the fatigued Peter Zakharov, and performed admirably with some excellent saves from long range to keep the Hawklandians out of the game. He held down his place for the remainder of the group stage and the bruising semi-final against Osarius, and while a rib injury in that match kept him out of the final against Ko-oren, Matthew finished the tournament with the unlikely distinction of zero goals conceded in 240 minutes of ice hockey, the best of any goaltender in the tournament. While his time in ice hockey might well be defined by his ability to remain healthy and free of further injury, on skill and temperament alone, Matthew's immediate future is bright indeed.

By his own admission, Peter Zakharov would not even have been his own first choice to tend goal for the Plough Islands, but Matthew Campbell's wrist injury meant the 42-year-old substituted for the first three matches in Koroa City. He acquitted himself more than well, though his technique was frequently tested, and his tireless, proletarian defence were the predominant - and, at times, only - reason that the Plough Islands held out as long as they did against Huayramarca and Ko-oren. Fatigue saw him rested for the remainder of the group stage, but as his team's unlikely run continued Zakharov was ultimately brought back for the final, where he held firm as his team wrote themselves improbably into legend.
His true value to the team arguably lay away from the ice; effectively serving as second in command to Paul Campbell, Zakharov doubled as a team manager and in large part was responsible for keeping his comrades sane during the tournament. He handled the delays and unexpected happenings with good humour, and a quiet, encompassing confidence that often saw him serve as a foil for the more frenetic Campbell. A reliable and popular figure off the ice as much as on it, Zakharov remains an unlikely lynchpin of the Plough Islander setup.

The Anaian Ice Hockey Championship saw Paul Campbell, a slight, wiry, career bureaucrat from Sutton who organised the Plough Islands team as a passion project, assume the unlikely mantle of a latter-day proletarian hero in his homeland. His story was told and retold many times as he trained, led and played every game of his team's campaign, even scoring a late breakaway goal against Estorvipa & Estorpiva, all the while adjusting to the occasionally farcical happenings that befell the tournament, and he became a celebrity of sorts somewhere along the way.
Being Paul Campbell the icon, though, took a toll on Paul Campbell the person; on the ice he was always more reliant on positioning and anticipation than strength and power even at full capacity, and the tournament drained him to the point where he spent most of the last period against Ko-oren in the final out on the left wing as a virtual spectator. He spent the weeks following the tournament on sick leave from the Ministry of Culture and Society, and it remains to be seen how many more matches he will be able to play an active role in. Should he take to the ice, though, the same single-minded belief and ability to make things happen that brought the Plough Islands from Friday evening recreational matches to regional ice hockey champions will doubtless be in evidence.

Cassandra Naomi Clara Farmer

In amongst the several new faces in the Plough Islands squad, Cassandra Farmer - the second of eight siblings from a prominent Socialist family - is possibly unique in already having had international sporting experience. Through her connections at the University of the Plough slands, Farmer represented her country in the Festival of Local Anaian Games and Sports, acting (albeit with some reluctance) as a virtual cultural ambassador and securing third place in the Cobre "Panna K.O." solo head-to-head soccer competition; a not insignificant achievement for a nineteen-year-old art student without a conventional athletic background.
Away from sporting pursuits, Farmer also saw one of her designs adopted as the arms of the Ice Sport Union of the Plough Islands; it was however for her ability on skates, rather than with a platform or a pencil, that she was selected for the squad. Her technique with a hockey stick is a little rudimentary, but she compensates with eagerness, commitment, and a natural ability on the ice; there are few better, or at least few more graceful, pure skaters in the Plough Islands team. If she can handle the intensity of elite level ice hockey, she has the talent for a long career in the sport.

Malcolm Andrew Hurley

While it was in no way the fault of Malcolm Hurley that he wore an eyepatch - without it, he would suffer double vision and blinding headaches as the result of an old cricket injury - it nonetheless had unintended consequences for the Plough Islanders in their attempts to be taken seriously in Koroa City. The sobriquet of 'one-eyed Malcolm' became something of a shorthand among foreign reporters for the initial struggles of the team from the Plough Islands, and came to be used to denigrate them as witless amateurs.
It belied Hurley's considerable tactical intelligence as an ice hockey player; when he scored his team's first goal in overtime to win the group stage match against Osarius, that he was in the right place to react to a blocked shot was no accident, and it would not have been a surprise to his teammates that he found the gap. While he only scored one further goal in the competition, against the same opposition in the semi final, his passing helped to set up several more, and he played a particularly effective supporting role to Neil Moore in the later stages of the competition. Though the taunt of 'one-eyed Malcolm' began as a jibe, his efforts in the tournament and since have made it a badge of honour.

Another of the new, uncapped players elevated from the University ranks for the second Anaian Ice Hockey Championships, Sergey Ivanushkin is a third-generation Plough Islander whose first experience of ice hockey came relatively late in life. Although he learned to skate as a child, it was only in his first year at university that he tried picking up a hockey stick, but Ivanushkin grasped the game remarkably quickly and has become a regular fixture in the university team, playing with a positive attitude and a seemingly endless reserve of energy.
Ivanushkin prefers to play on the wing, and is an excellent passer of the puck who can and frequently does shift from defence to offence in a split second; most of his goals in club matches have come from a tight angle on breakaway attacks. He can be a little too enthusiastic, and still has a tendency to overestimate his own abilities and chase after lost causes to the detriment of his team; he has, though, been willing and eager to learn the nuances of the game. Assuming that Ivanushkin can translate his skills and eagerness to the regional stage - and that he is able to continue pursuing ice hockey after his degree is finished - it appears highly likely that we will be hearing more of him.

Until this year, Hamish Laing would have been best known in sporting circles as a bowling all-rounder for Sutton & Avalon in the Harrison Cup, or simply as the younger brother of former Plough Islands cricket captain Kevin; he has now made his own place in history, with his long pass setting up Neil Moore's decisive goal in the final to win the inaugural Anaian Ice Hockey Championship. It was a rare moment in the spotlight for Laing, who spent most of the tournament grafting in the endless, thankless role of defender against more conventionally combative ice hockey teams, and picked up more than his fair share of scars and bruises to show for it.
The Plough Islands would have been lost more than once without Laing toiling at the back, though, and his comrades were effusive in their appreciation of the workhorse defender after the victory. It would appear that the younger Laing has found his niche at last, and since the tournament ended he has spent more time playing ice hockey than cricket, even deputising as the on-ice captain for Sutton Docklands in Paul Campbell's absence. His shooting and face-off skills have also improved over the summer, and Laing could yet play a wider role in the upcoming tournament than simply blocking and covering.

Jonathan McIllmurray

A tall, dark-haired, and softly-spoken defender, Jonathan McIllmurray is another of the recent recruits to the national side from the University of the Plough Islands. His father Hamilton is the longtime curling skip for the Peaceful Atomic Energy Welfare Association, and McIllmurray's route to ice hockey was through curling; he was playing with full-sized stones from the age of ten, and only began to spend more time on skates after a growth spurt in higher school. As an adult, however, McIllmurray has increasingly taken to the quicker and more energetic sport, although as an ice hockey player, his methodical and patient style remains heavily informed by curling.
McIllmurray's height - standing 190cm tall on skates - is his greatest advantage on the ice, with the extra reach enabling him to outcompete most opponents for the puck in a one-on-one situation. For similar reasons, he also excels at face-offs, although most of the time he actively avoids confrontation and prefers to stand back and cut off the angles available to an oncoming opponent. Whether McIllmurray continues with ice hockey seriously - he remains involved with curling at the university ice sports club - remains to be seen, but he will undoubtedly be an asset to whichever sport he chooses.

Neil Rupert Moore

Someone meeting Neil Moore for the first time would never suspect that this relaxed, philosophical, and worldly young man would be an ice hockey powerhouse, but with skates and a white shirt he is transformed into the highest-energy and most naturally gifted player on the entire Plough Islands team. Able to control the puck well at speed and shoot it powerfully and precisely from tight angles, at his very best Moore appeared to be operating on a different level to the rest of his comrades; the Plough Islands' route to the final was, in great part, sustained by a tactic of getting the puck through to Moore from the defence and relying on him to score.
He duly did so six times in Koroa City, including a double against United Hawkland and the shot through Ennu Aosdu's legs that proved to be the game-winning goal against Ko-oren in the tournament final. Not all elements of his game are as well developed as his scoring - he often struggled to get back and effectively defend when the game situation changed, and the well-drilled, physical Osarian enforcers were able to virtually neutralise him in the semi-final. When in form, though, Moore is one of those players who seems able to raise the level of everyone around him, and it is a joy to watch him compete.

Lauren Piper

A broad-shouldered defender with a mane of deep red hair and a piercing, dead-eyed stare from behind thick spectacles, Lauren Piper would have preferred to keep her head down in the inaugural championship and enjoy her ice hockey without being singled out for rough treatment. With Piper's relative height and build compared to her comrades making her best suited to physical defence, however, she found herself in the thick of the action more often than not and became an unwilling target for so-called 'enforcers' from opposing teams looking for an edge.
Almost all of the penalty minutes against the Plough Islands in Koroa City fell on Piper, most of them for miscommunications or a mistaken reading of the icing rule, but on a few occasions - such as twice against Osarius in the semi-final - she was penalised for retaliating, eventually, under considerable provocation. But there were also highlights, such as a long-range goal from almost behind her own net in the closing stages of that Osarius match, and her gritty persistence in defence that held off the Ko-orenite forwards in the final. It is that determination and effort that she will be hoping to bring to the Plough Islanders' title defence, rather than her unearned reputation.

THE PLOUGH ISLANDS IN COLOUR

The main evidence of the existence of the Ice Sport Union of the Plough Islands in the short time since it was founded has been visual rather than practical. One of its first acts was to adopt a modernist emblem, created by graphic design student and University of the Plough Islands defender Cassandra Farmer, which combines elements of the jerseys worn by the Plough Islanders at the inaugural championship - white with horizontal bands in the colours of the flag - with a pattern in blue that suggests snowflakes or ice crystals. The new governing body has been granted the design as a coat of arms, blazoned Azure, a fess fir-twigged/snowflaked Argent, charged with a fess of three bars Vert, Or, and Vert, to be displayed on a rectangular shield with the dimensions of an ice hockey rink.

The crest, displayed on letterheads and worn on shirts, of the newly created Ice Sport Union of the Plough Islands; the abstract design includes a crystalline pattern in blue and white, set against a background in the shape of an ice hockey playing surface.

The design of the arms also influences the new Plough Islander playing kits; the shirts worn in Koroa City were hard-wearing fabric and not really sportswear, with the coloured bands frequently having to be re-sewn on during the competition. For the new era, Red Flag have produced new, lighter weight white shirts that feature a higher and thicker chest band, attached much more firmly, and with a pattern woven into the white base of the shirt that echoes the interlocking blue and white design on the crest.
These are nominally worn with white cricket trousers and no visible socks, although as the only prescribed element of the kit is the shirt, there will be variations in legwear, with some players preferring shorts or skirts and the goaltenders wearing batting pads. As in Koroa City, there is no change kit, one having been deemed unnecessary after the Plough Islands went through the entire tournament wearing white. However, the shirts do bear some concessions to international norms in the form of player names across the back - although numbers remain absent - and a captain's insignia on the right breast, opposite the newly adopted snowflake badge.

THE PLOUGH ISLANDS IN PRACTICE

For the time being at least, the Plough Islands have fundamentally refused to be changed by their experience of multiversal ice hockey in Koroa City; their game is still relatively slow, patient, and marked by long periods of buildup and defence between occasional forward ventures. The same six players that started a match will finish it, barring serious injury, and they will almost never seek out physical confrontation nor respond to provocation unless pushed beyond their breaking point. Even allowing for the socialist society in which they live and fiercely believe, they are essentially amateurs in the classical sense, and make up with enthusiasm and attitude that which they lack in fitness or ability.
In scorination terms, this translates to a style modifier of -5, and a set of reasonably broad roleplay permissions - I am more than happy to collaborate on any interesting ideas, so feel free to get in touch if you have something!

About Huayramarca: The Plurinational State of Huayramarca, also known as ”Huayramarca Mamallaqta” in Quechua and ”Huayramarca Suyu” in Aymara (literally: Windy Country), is an extraordinarily diverse nation in terms of geography that’s located in Anaia. Crossing three time zones, from the islands, reaching the coast, hiking the mountains and then sliding into the jungle, passing massive cordilleras such as the Andes, a nation with 36 million inhabitants that is composed by 9 different ethnic groups.

Huayramarca as such is a relatively new nation for the traditional standards of it, since it was constituted on 1822 (currently, we sit on 1984 according to the Inca Calendar), the main focus of building this nation was to help different ethnic groups to gather force into the region, in order to be recognized multiversally as a nation, hence, may gather some international protection in case their rights would be abused all of a sudden by an external force.

Being completely ignorant on what was happening around themselves, the Aymara, Quechua, Shuar, Guarani, Montubio, Tsáchila, Huaorani, Andoa and Candoshi ethnics decided to form the Republic with the support of neighbouring nations such as the Royal Kingdom of Québec & Shingoryeo. Migration from Québec happened in the late XIX century, mostly peoples known as ”Guayabalenses” decided to move in order to seek a stable place for their families, considering that their home soil was apparently brushed off the map by a dictator called “Gregory”. That last point forced the Huayramarcans into a stronger union in order to survive.

Until the middle XX century, Huayramarca managed to survive economically from llama, alpaca and vicuña herding, since its skins are highly valuable in neighbouring Québec due to their strong winters; also, coffee production helped Huayramarca to build some solid institutions that promoted national expansion near the Cocoabo Forest, that place is “La Selva”, a lush but quite dangerous forest with hundreds of rivers that come from the Andes. After some years of exploration, the authorities met the first indigenous peoples of the zone, which were exploited in order to produce rubber for tires and some mysterious chickens that were produced to do even more mysterious sacrifices to a deity, which the local people and even the rest of Huayramarca wasn’t able to understand how she works, granted, it’s not even a part of the Incan Mythology which includes Inti(the Sun god) and others.

During said period of time, and in a constant influx, a still unknown quantity of Huayramarcans decided to immigrate to neighbouring nations, especially the Kingdom of Québec & Shingoryeo. The Huayramarcans that managed to settle and refuge in said nation are group characterised by being easily adapted to their new home, they managed to assimilate many of the cultural preferences of the Québécois populace, and one of those was ice hockey, some youngsters decided to venture into the Québécois Hockey League (QHL) and a bare minimum of those were actually lucky to fit into a team. At the same time, a rare phenomena started among the Tsáchila indigenous people, they decided to play some kind of hockey in salt flats, imitating the same principles as their familiars did on Québec, with ice skates, pucks and sticks they were gifted from them.

That somewhat weird splitting was capitalized by a Huayramarcan-Québécois coach who envious of seeing nations from all across the multiverse taking part of the World Cup of Hockey, decided that it was time to see Huayramarca in the biggest scene that hockey has to offer. His job began after watching the WCoH 43 final, he started to investigate the background of the entire QHL, searching for players with Huayramarcan parents or grandparents, his work seemed useless until he got contacted by three QHL players who demonstrated that, in fact, they are Huayramarcans. Taking them into the pocket, he visited Santo Domingo, the city that's closer to the salt flats, where he saw a vibrant scene of teams from all across Huayramarca taking part of it, he arranged a meeting with the Tsáchila's patriarch in order to scout players from the salt flats tournament, he got approved and managed to get a team ready for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, since those players considered themselves capable to jump from the salt flat to the ice rinks.

The reason of why this hockey team exists is here, a coach who didn't wanted to see World Cup of Hockey from his sofa any more, instead, he wanted to jump into the big

scene by building from scratch a team for his native Huayramarca, the country he fled in order to pursue a better life in Québec & Shingoryeo. Involved in hockey since his arrival to his new home, he has managed some local teams from Sherbrooke, he was earning his name as a promising coach for youngsters in the area, even helping some of those to jump into the QHL. His training methods are considered to be more focused into collective playing, optimisation of space and focusing in speed and elegance rather than force while attacking, although, a complete fan of somewhat brutal force while defending, he's known for always choosing strong defenceman lines, trying to build an iron curtain on the attempt.

For his venture on Huayramarca, expectations are low since it's taking a group composed by, mostly, amateur players that used to play on salt flats and reinforcing them with five professional QHL players forming the starting lines for the Fugitives. The sole fact of building the team and managing to get support from the Tsáchilas' chief and the National Government is a victory for what was, until today, a completely unknown figure in hockey.

La crème de la crème that Ferrer has to offer for the Fugitives, a trio of moderately strong but extremely fast players from the Québécois Hockey League, featuring Ho Man-Young, one of the best players that the Winnipeg Giants has among their lines, Ho is a skilled player that loves to exploit cracks in the rival defence, using his speed and technique to break them for good, he has a great sense of anticipation and tries to be in right place before the puck, instead of chasing it; he has a bright future forward and pretends to showcase with Huayramarca as much as possible. Simón Lugo and Pablo Holguín accompany Ho at the wings, both are fast enough players but Holguín excels due to his stamina, he is known for playing long periods of time without being substituted, while Lugo tends to be the opposite, since he's a player that tends to be very fast and collaborative on counterattacks, he might be one of the fastest QHL players and that tends to have a toll in his stamina. The trio may try to exploit speed and pass the puck in a space via filtered passes, while Ho would try, if possible, to pull out a five-hole or dribble the defenders and goalie in order to confuse them.

A line composed by fast moving players, but stronger compared to the first one. Ferrer has this line in consideration as a technical alternative in case a defence decides to lockdown and there's need of force to crack it. Ballesteros is a left winger that might like to start from behind or receive a pass to test his one-timer, a strong shot that might have some accuracy, his stats at the Huayramarcan Hockey League (HHL) demonstrates some success as he took the Sechura Oilers to win la Copa del Salar in the inaugural season. Medina is a centre forward that prefers to fight when needed, he might be extremely rude if we compare to the standard of this team, he might be involved in fights constantly; despite that, Medina has a great dribbling capacity and couples nicely with fast wingers such as Ballesteros. Pizzaro, in the other hand, is the slowest, but smartest, player on this line, he will always try to anticipate the movements and prevent offside by playing close to the line, he likes to receive passes right to where he is, so it's safe to say that he doesn't move a lot, still, he manages to control the puck nicely and shoot from mid range.

This third line has a stronger feature compared to the one we had earlier, to the point that some of the players here are considered into special teams such as Walter Colque, this player always chooses violence as his preferred method to solve problems, so, he's almost always involved big time in one, despite that, he has managed to get a great sense of concentration that, if used properly, could help to protect the puck and serve passes to the other two players of his line, specially to Quispe. Benjamín is an agile skater, he has the capability to manoeuvre among the rivals with simplicity, having preference to go behind the goal and serve passes to Huanca. The latter is a player that possesses a rather good one-timer, so, if he considers capable, he will always aim to goal, although his shot capabilities from mid or long range isn't the very best out there.

A significantly better in terms of speed and stamina, the fourth line may not be as technical as the first, but it's one with players that can resist prolonged periods of intense game on ice, specially for the smallest player of the team, Ángel Chambi may look as a non-threat for rival defenders, but it's a player capable to rush in counterattacks and provide some good passing for his teammates. Diego Rojas is a motivated player, his hockey career is starting and he might look promising for some teams in this World Cup, since he's the most technical player in this line, he's able to appear from the rival's back and shoot surprisingly. Anthony Mamani is your average Huayramarcan hockey player, an individual that might look dull on the ice sometimes, but has a great decision skill while receiving the puck, he might want to come from behind the goal and then shoot the goaltender when he doesn't expects.

The stellar defensive line features two strong QHL defenders such as Zayden McCrae and Mario Nieto. McCrae is a Huayramarcan because of his father, who immigrated to Québec & Shingoryeo by the age of 24, this player tends to be excessively physical while trying to recover the puck, but also possesses high speed, so he could be a vital piece for Ferrer's counterattack idea when needed. Mario Nieto is the classical hockey defender that tries to chase the puck, hence being somewhat easy to distract at certain occasions, Nieto tends to use his strength to deter players to be close to the goal, also he's versatile as he likes to keep defending position behind the goal in order to avoid a sudden turn from a rival forward that could end in goal.

This line features what perhaps is the most reliable line in the Huayramarcan Hockey League, both are Oilers and had kept a solid performance during the last season of HHL, specially Puga that led the league in recoveries and puck stealing, a formidable player in terms of physique and speed, Puga can place decently positioned pucks to the forwards in order to help them while transitioning from a defence to attack. Meanwhile, Santiago Coronado is the kind of player that tends to not be aggressive but smart, as he prefers to play nicely with the stick, trying to perform high-style puck recovering from the rivals, he tends to support himself on Puga in order to get out of defensive troubles, so the fastest of the two could led a counterattack when needer. Coronado will always chase the rivals and deter him from shooting.

Gallardo is a physically and mentally strong player, capable to take out of their minds his opponents and get into brawls to provoke power-plays, still, he can help on controlling the puck and playing with the goaltender in order to kill some time. Mamani, in the other hand, is a swift player that manages to compensate his lack of physical strength with mental speed, he's a talented player that obstructs rivals moves with ease, and provides his team with a scape valve to release pressure behind and transfer it to the forwards.

Huayramarcan goalies tend to be strong physically and able to cover most of the goal in order to block shots, but they have some disadvantages because on how tall can they be, so five-hole is a real possibility to beat them but not so easily. Bin-Seok is one of the best QHL goalies (0.94 save average) , he has great reflexes and capability to block from short range hits to fast one-timers, his experience, despite being young, can provide motivation and a confident player in the riskiest positions that the game has to offer. Isaac Choque and Evo Morales are local league players, they were the two best goalies in the last HHL season, they have proved to be consistent and reliable goal tenders for their teams, having saving average of 0.92 and 0.91 each and they will be always ready to support the team when needed.

NATIONAL ICE HOCKEY TEAM

This will be the Federal Republic's second time participating in the Anaian Ice Hockey Championship. The Federal Republic of Estorvipa and Estorpiva is a federal union between two states, the Federation of Estorvipa and the Republic of Estorpiva, created on 22 November 2019 after the two states agreed to unite together and present a combined front against the other rebel sides in the Estorian Civil War. Ice hockey, while not a particularly popular sport in Estorian lands (at least compared to association football), has its own following within the country. It's too small to consider ice hockey a challenger to football in terms of popularity in Estoria, but it's also too big to just call ice hockey a niche interest. The sport survived years of being relegated to the back burner under the regime of Vissarion Zhivkov, but with the Federal Republic restoring order over much of Estoria, ice hockey is experiencing a small renaissance to the point that there are now enough players to form a national ice hockey team for the Federal Republic.

As things sit now, we have seven signups, around what we had last tournament. The goal is to get around 10, but really we could start now if necessary. I encourage all who want to sign up for the CAFA Cup to sign up for this as well!

Assuming Ko-oren's bid is coming soon, the new host bid deadline is
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH, AT 3:30 PM CENTRAL U.S.

To refresh, some requirements for your host bid to be considered is:

Deadline times and ratios. (i.e. 6pm London, 2/48)
A working and feasable format.
The scorinator model and program.

Other things, like the preferred number of teams and the rp bonuses and penalties are encouraged but not required, keep in mind you may not get many votes if too much is absent.

a couple questions so potential voters can get some more info on the bid, and you can answer some of the questions i've seen, and that i've been wondering about:

1. Why do 2/48 cutoffs with only 8 teams?
2. Why cut signups off at 8 teams when you are potentially hosting both the AIHC and the CAFA? Does this not go against the whole idea of doing combined RP bonuses? If teams can get CAFA bonuses from the AIHC, (the whole point being to encourage people to sign up for the AIHC,) then why immediately cut signups when we can keep them going?

Adjusted bid to reflect some TGd and DMd feedback. The points above are also noted: 2/48 is not about the number of teams, it's more about the number of cutoffs, which I try to keep below 10 (and even that's a bit much for a minor regional tournament). I would also like to get MD1 of CAFA and AIHC going relatively quickly given that other regional soccer tournaments are already underway and signups for both tournaments have been up for quite some time.

For a format: all teams play each other once in the group stage, 1/48, wins are 2 points, overtime (or shootout) losses will be 1 point, losses will be 0 points. Yes, there will be OT/SO for each game. There will be no finals/playoffs/knockouts. This format works to up to 10 teams (nine cutoffs). Above that number, we'll go for two groups, 1/48, single round robin, with semifinals (1a-2b and 1b-2a) and a final.

Cutoffs will happen simultaneously to the CAFA if the Ko-orenite bid wins: 22:00 CET.

Ranks from the first AIHC will be used. RP bonus will be generous, though. If the Ko-orenite CAFA bid wins, the synchronicity bonus (for continuing RPs in both the CAFA and AIHC) will also apply.

Xkoranate, SQIS with shootouts. No home advantage, additive style mods.

All games will take place in Ko-oren:
The Dome in Aevanna (17000) is the home of Ko-orenite ice hockey, the primary venue for the Aevanna Scouts, Aevanna Plains Wanderers, South Aevanna Storm, and Aevanna Explorers-Mariners. Local fans will show up to AIHC games in droves. It's a large venue with two rings and seating going up fairly steep, it certainly doesn't lake in ice hockey-specific infrastructure, with plenty of space for dressing rooms, benches, equipment, etc. It's not the most modern stadium, lacking large video boards and still 'only' using led tickers.

The Cathedral in Arboren (11000) is a much more modern stadium constructed for Arboren's various minor league adventures and currently used for their Arboren Vortex pro team. It's not as large - nor does it have to be - but it has a modest video board. Seating is arranged in two rings, with the top ring being somewhat small and much further away from the action.

The Boombox in Egevea (8500) is a venue used for various kinds of events, but has been used regularly for ice hockey since the Egevea Islanders were instated in the pro league. Its acoustics are pretty good, as is insulation, and as a result it's oddly warm in there, even during games, which means the Zamboni will have to come out a bit more often and breaks take a bit longer to take care of the ice.

Marten Kuijper Stadion in Straudum (12500) is the mainland's main stadium, home to the Straudum Ice, a proud and old team that has been among the championship contenders with the best Aerellen (read: Aevanna - Egevea and Arboren haven't done much) teams. A huge, dark blue bowl that offers surprisingly decent (but not much better than that) sight lines for the folks in the back.

Jonsson's Backyard in Launott (7900) has become the best venue on the north coast, surpassing Stefansson's Backyard, and was made ready for pro level ice hockey by the addition of a roof a few years ago. A very barebones arena, bleachers and all, but for whoever likes that old-timey feel: this is your venue.

Lacharrailu in Nyashawill (10000) is the stadium of the West Coast Blizzards, a team involved in professional ice hockey since the start but always being the odd ones out, having an entire tradition of ice hockey by themselves that's largely remained separate from the Aerellen tradition. Proud, loud, and old, every game should sell out here. If you want some different pre-game and between-period shows, this is your venue. And if you like a slightly different approach to the game itself, the West Coast Blizzards are your team.
